Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre is a visitor center located in a quiet village on the western fringes of Dorset. It features fossil displays, including an ichthyosaur, and provides information about the Jurassic Coast. The village is popular with walkers and outdoor enthusiasts due to its scenic footpaths and coastal views. Charmouth Beach is known for fossil hunting, attracting amateur paleontologists searching for prehistoric treasures like ammonites. The area's significance has earned it recognition as a World Heritage Site.
Charmouth is a fantastic base for walkers. The South West Coast Path runs right through the village, offering a variety of trails. You can take a scenic, albeit steep, walk up Golden Cap for breathtaking panoramic views of Lyme Bay. For a less strenuous option, a circular walk between Charmouth and Lyme Regis offers beautiful coastal and countryside views. You can even walk directly along the beach to Lyme Regis at low tide, which is a popular and rewarding trek. Just be sure to check tide times to avoid being cut off.

As I had a dog, I went up stairs to the Heritage coast centre to ask the rules around dogs. Meredith, the woman on guard duty, told me to tie up my dog downstairs, ( I did not enter into the museum Because dogs can’t go in). I asked if she had any leaflets of information regarding the fossil beach and she just said tie up your dog and you can get them yourself, and refused to hand me any. I found her attitude extremely rude and condescending. I then met Steve who works for the local council and he was the total opposite, he even went to change my £5 note, into coins for the parking. WiFi is not very reliable there. I also have to mention that Meredith was watching as I talked to Steve and was smirking. I didn’t appreciate that when I challenged her attitude she responded I’m a volunteer. Does that give her the right to be rude? I don’t think so. I did not go in to the facility. I was extremely disappointed with Meredith’s attitude.

Today we visited the heritage centre and was amazed at the amount of fossil information on display. Super friendly staff. After spending time on the beach at Black Ven the staff were happy to review some of my finds and help explain what they were. Great for families. Well worth a visit 👍
Mark L — Google review
What a fab place. Fun for fossil Hunting We also found loads of sea glass. The shop there was reasonably priced and there was toilets and a cafe toilets were free. Car park decent price and right on the beach. Dogs allowed in the beach.
Vixxy B — Google review
Charmouth is a beautiful and interesting beach with constantly changing scenery due to erosion and just the sheer natural aspects of the constantly changing ocean and weather. I come here often to put it midly as it has a real sense of calm and tranquillity for me whether it be to eat my sandwiches, have a quick snooze on my way to or from fishing, grab some air, recharge or simply watch the stunning sunrises and sunsets ill always stop. It stretches for miles as does your imagination when there. I prefer winter time in all honesty as I prefer if im the only person around although in the warmer months I usually am as I arrive at 4am probably at the latest. The car park attends are welcoming and friendly and also work hard to maintain cleanliness especially after spring tides or/ and strong south westerlies. It gets very crowded at weekends and summer holidays though with people searching for fossils as its world renowned for precisely this. Thoroughly recommended.

A fabulous area to visit. Lots of lovely towns and villages to explore.

Charmouth Beach, located just up the coast from Lyme Regis in Dorset, is a small and serene beach that offers various activities such as swimming, picnicking, and fossil hunting. The beach is divided into two sections by the River Char, with opportunities for rock-pooling and paddling on the pebbly West Beach.
We have just spent a great week in Charmouth and spent every day at the beach. It has everything you need for a great time by the sea. A very photogenic beach with the added bonus of fossil hunting and sea glass finding. £6 parking all day. Fantastic selection of ice creams. Charmouth fossils and the Heritage centre are great places to visit. Just wished we lived closer as this is my go to holiday destination.
Mark L — Google review
Nice place. Make sure you bring some beach shoes as really hard to walk on all the pebbles ! The icecream stand by the little bridge was much better and cheaper than from the beach shop. And Greek food stand just next to it as well
Anna R — Google review
Another beautiful spot by the water in the UK. Mountains, valleys, and peace. You can hear hammers on the beach all around. Red rocks and more. I recommend it 😝 Arkady
ArkAdy88 S — Google review
A ridiculously busy beach. The sand is both pebble and sand. One major cafe and toilets available. Two kiosks within the pot holed car park. The cliff walk is nice but I cannot understand why this beach is so popular. Dogs not allowed on the main part at certain times of the year.

Wonderful place to visit. I decided to go fossil hunting and go to Charmouth instead of Lyme regis. It's a wonderful beach. There is a car park right on the beach front. There is a lot a coffee hut on the beach which is lovely. We actually found several fossils at this beach. It's a beautiful place to visit and highly recommend visiting
Suzanne F — Google review
It was so beautiful it felt unreal. Anyone should come here at least once just for the sunset alone. I went for the fossiIs and stayed for the views. I love this place. I'll come again soon no doubt. Just go now 😁

What an amazing beach, its got everything, sand, shingle, rocks, fossils....loads to look at! Well worth the visit and very photogenic! A fascinating place to walk along! Pay on arrival at the carpark. Also has a lovely cafe and a fossil museum.

If it's a fascinating ith fossils or exquisite scenery that's your bag Charmouth is a perfect destination. (I just love painting watercolours so Lyme Bay is one of my favourite seaside areas...l leave the kids to search for fossils!)^

Durdle Door, located on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, is a natural limestone arch that is widely photographed. The beach nearby is known for its stunning limestone arch separating it from ManoWar Bay and attracts fossil hunters, snorkelers, and swimmers. Access to the beach involves a walk down from a pay and display car park at the top of the cliff. Visitors can drive or take a challenging walk to Durdle Door for sunset photos and enjoy breathtaking views of the coast.
Durdle Door is a stunning natural limestone definitely one for the photo album 🌊📸. The view is worth the effort, but be prepared: it’s a 15-minute walk from the car park and includes a steep, uneven path and wooden stairs 👟. Parking is paid and expensive — around £10 for 4 hours or £20 for the day. The beach is free to access, but has no toilets or changing facilities.
Ankit D — Google review
The best views and the clearest water not counting Cornwall of course. The must see place to be. Don’t take any trolleys and prepare for a long walk from the car park. No wheelchair access, don’t even try.
Gagik G — Google review
Durdle Door is a rock formation in the form of an arch, located in Dorset, England.🌟 The place is very interesting, visited by thousands of tourists. 🚶‍♂️👣 The entire area, called the Jurassic coast, is privately owned, but with public access.👐 The rock arch is 61m high.😯🙆‍♂️ This is one of my favorite places with the most impressive landscape in England.👌👌

One of the best view to enjoy... Very mesmerising view it gives and worth to travel for. Never miss the place. Should really once in your life time. Parking is available at the top.. And need to walk down a bit to get to the spot and steep on the way
Sharoon N — Google review
What an absolutely stunning place! The view of the iconic stone arch and the turquoise water is truly breathtaking — pictures don’t do it justice. The walk down to the beach is a bit steep, but totally worth it once you reach the shore. It’s a great spot for relaxing, taking photos, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature. I’d recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing some snacks or a picnic — the atmosphere is so peaceful you’ll want to stay for hours. If you’re lucky with the weather, you’ll catch an amazing sunrise or sunset. Overall, it’s a must-visit place in the UK — calm, scenic, and unforgettable.
Md I — Google review
An absolutely stunning piece of natural beauty. The walk down the cliff path provides breathtaking views before you even reach the iconic arch. The beach is lovely, and taking a dip in the clear (and bracingly cold!) turquoise water is an unforgettable experience. Pro Tip: Get here at sunrise! We beat the crowds and had the place almost to ourselves. It was absolutely magical and serene. The experience would be completely different in the middle of a busy day. Highly, highly recommend an early start!
Ammar Z — Google review
What a spectacular! Visited in October, not quite sunny but still perfect to enjoy myself sitting on the shores and looking over such a beautiful natural landscape right in front of me. So thankful to experience and see Durdle Door with 👀.

Amazing views and a truly natural marvel. Well worth a visit. There ia quite a steep, chalky loose gravel path, not very accessible for people with mobility restrictions.

Old Harry Rocks is a natural attraction on the Dorset coastline, known for its unique chalk sea stack formation. The site offers stunning cliffside views across Poole Harbour to Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight. Accessible by a scenic 3-mile walk starting at South Beach car park, visitors can enjoy the clifftop trail and explore the surrounding chalk grassland. The area is under threat from sea erosion, making it an important geological landmark to visit.
I love this walk,it's flat most of the way and not too far if you're taking an oldie (55+) with you. The views are amazing when you get to the end so well worth it.
Larry D — Google review
Absolutely lovey place to visit on a sunny day!! Beautiful chalk rock formations with panoramic views all around!! Lovey walk leading up to Old Harry from the Studland side and the Swanage side. Do take great care when on the cliffs though! Plenty of beautiful places for photos safely. Stunning views all around and if You're lucky you might see a dolphin!! 🐬
Olivia B — Google review
I went to Old Harry Rocks in the evening at sunset and it was beautiful. It’s about a 15 minute walk from the car park to the lookout but it’s flat. From The lookout you can see the Isle Of Wight in the distance. It’s a very peaceful spot.
Vanessa B — Google review
About a mile walk from beach road passing a couple of great pubs. Nice walk to then be rewarded with stunning views.
Julie M — Google review
One most stunning views and beautiful walk of beautiful chalk cliffs. Car park about 15mins walk along the Jurassic Coast line. You get some amazing pictures and sunsets 🌇 here. 2 pubs close by to car park.
Hug D — Google review
Very nice place to visit. Quite a tight squeeze to get into the car park but once you're there you have a nice walk ahead of you before seeing the cliffs.

One of my favourite places in Dorset. It's a nice walk up to the rocks from Studland or Swanage, and the views there are just incredible. Especially beautiful to hike up for the sunrise :)

Lulworth Cove is a unique, rounded bay that has been shaped by sea erosion and features arced waves and limestone folding. The area offers various activities for families, including walking in the Fossil Forest at Lulworth, spotting dolphins at Durlston, and exploring Winspit Caves. Dorset is rich in natural beauty with secret beaches, smugglers' coves, ancient hillforts, and romantic castles.
You don’t want to leave this place, really. Peaceful, windy and very very serene. Not much climb, very accessible sights

Visited in January.a bit cold but a nice little cove to walk along a small pebble beach..a few shop..lovely ice cream..bit of awalk up the cliff top..Will come back in the summer
Mike M — Google review
It's worth 10 stars just for the pure natural beauty of the place. I wouldn't recommend it in the summer, It does get a tad busy 🫣 Off-season, though, it is pure bliss. Quiet shops, seats in the cafes and restaurants, and very, very few walkers and tourists, making access to the viewpoints quick, easy, and simple. Once at the top, you can take as long as you like to enjoy the views with nobody pushing and shoving their way past you. Just wrap up warm 😉👍 There are also a few gift shops purveying their generic souvenirs for big budget visitors. Don't forget your credit cards 🤣👍
Brain G — Google review
It is most beautiful and picturesque place I have ever been in the UK! The cove looks stunning with the Jurassic Coast in the background. With the sunlight, it looks so surreal. The water has so many layers of blue. Parking is expensive, starting from £10 for 4 hours, covering Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Unfortunately Durdle door was closed on the day we visited. It might make you feel better that you don’t need to pay entrance fees anymore. I love this place so much.
J. Q — Google review
Picture perfect. If you love walks and views this is the place for you. Absolutely gorgeous. Large carpark just a short walk away. Easy walk down to the cove with cafes, gift shops and a pub to visit. You can walk up to the viewing point for spectacular views over the cove, or if you are more adventurous you can take the 1 mile coastal path the Durdle door. Due to its beauty Lulworth cove can get extremely busy, so time you visits for out of season or early in the morning.
Melly K — Google review
Beautiful location. Natural bay in the coast. Wonder of nature with a history from the jurassic era. Clear blue water. Full of activities, like canoeing, scenic boat tours. Hiking pathway leading to durdle door. Nice shops and a visitor center. Lot of parking available and ticket is valid for both Lulworth cove & Durdle door. Superb place to chill out on the beach or in the large picnic green area.
Rasanga G — Google review
Beautiful natural spot with clear waters and stunning coastal views. Great for a relaxing walk or just sitting and enjoying the scenery. Can get busy in peak season, but it’s well worth a visit.
Vadims N — Google review
Beautiful village. The visitor centre is chock full of full of information about the area and how the cove was formed. There are some great little cafes and restaurants. Walks galore! There are different levels of difficulty depending on where you want to walk but you are guaranteed a great view

Lulworth Cove Cliffs is a breathtaking destination that showcases the stunning beauty of the Jurassic Coast. With iconic landmarks like Old Harry Rocks and Durdle Door nearby, this area offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. While entry to these picturesque sites is free, be prepared to pay for parking. The family-friendly trails lead you through scenic landscapes, although they can get quite crowded at times.
A truly magnificent setting and a jewel of the Jurassic Coast. The vistas and surrounding village are well worth exploring, offering beautiful scenery, great dining options, and a lovely atmosphere. It’s worth walking over to Durdle Door - but it is a tough up hill climb, so be prepared! The parking charges are quite steep, and can cost nearly £20 for a day - and it does fill up quickly on sunny weekends.

Please check bus timings and you train ticket timings if you're travelling on public transport. There's issues finding one and have to wait for long. You won't get any buses after 7:14 pm and even before that on weekdays. So make sure you complete your visit and reach the station before this time. If you are taking your car, you can stay longer. Otherwise, it's a very good place to visit. Have cafes ,hotels, public toilet and parking.
Dr. Y — Google review
Stunning viewpoint overlooking Lulworth Cove, well worth the uphill walk for the vantage point it offers of one of the UK's most beautiful beaches. There's a stone monument part way up the trail, and continuing up to the peak affords similarly good views west over Stair Hole and beyond. An information board has been provided to explain what's in the view, and the paths are well maintained, though may be steep for some. There are excellent facilities at Lulworth Cove including a café, toilets, large gift shop with lots of local goodies and ample parking (quite expensive at a minimum £10 for 4 hours as of October 2024, but there's easily enough to fill that time).
Andrew T — Google review
Beautiful place to visit, highly recommend. Great for a walk or just a day trip to have a picnic. Incredible scenery, will definitely return! Only minus is the car park prices are too much.
MrJsquires86 — Google review
I came here as part of the hike to Durdle Door. This place had such stunning views and pleasant vibes. Just down the road are some cafes and ice-cream parlours. Perfect match. Captured some amazing pics 😀
Prachur G — Google review
Stunning scenery on both sides from the top. You can see the gorgeous by and the other side is the sea. Absolutely stunning and the walking is brilliant. Parking is easy in the large carpark, there's a few options for food and drink. Despite being not much more than a small bay, there's enough to occupy you for a couple of hours, even if that involves just admiring the view
Binu R — Google review
Ensure safe disposal of garbage, especially cigarette butts as there is moderate fire risk. Keep Lulworth beautiful! PS bring layers, a cool breeze and rain kicked up unexpectedly.

Dorset Adventure Park is a top choice for families seeking an action-packed day out in Dorset. Nestled in a picturesque woodland, the park offers an array of thrilling activities suitable for all ages. Visitors can tackle the floating obstacle course on two lakes, navigate a 2km mud trail with various challenges, and test their skills on a climbing wall and high ropes course. The park also features amenities such as changing rooms, a snack stand, and a picnic area for relaxation after the adventures.
Awesome water park, kids had a great time, 30 minutes on one half of the course, and 30 minutes on the other so they don't get bored. Brilliant lifeguards as well as the other staff who were all really helpful and friendly. Wetsuit hire is available along with socks! Changing rooms and outside showers are available, but there's not much covered space to watch on if it's raining!!
Emma H — Google review
Great attraction in a really nice setting and very well run. Toilets and changing facilities clean and well positioned. You can hire wetsuits if you need them for the main attraction - the inflatable assault course. Staff were friendly but upheld the safety rules well. Plenty of parking at no extra charge. The only thing to watch out for is the covered picnic areas seemed to be exclusively reserved for parties so potentially no way of escaping the sun or rain ?

A great find to add to our annual Dorset adventures. So good we’re going back tomorrow for more mud & water fun 🤩 Friendly & helpful staff, clean toilets & a great selection of food to keep everyone happy 🤩

We had an incredible first experience on the inflatables. The team were great with us all and ensured my 3 boys had a fab time? everyone was kept safe, they even dealt with a medical emergency half way through the session in the most rapid and professional manner! Team should be proud of themselves. Well worth the drive and the money and that’s on a rainy day! We wouldn’t hesitate in coming again and really look forward in doing so.
Christiane D — Google review
This adventure park is great if you love outdoor activities. Inflatable water park - It's great fun every time, you get an hour of fun, with 30 minutes on 2 different obstacle courses, you can go on all different obstacles, from a water trampoline to a water slide straight into the lake. Mud trail - The mud trail is a challenging outdoor fitness activity with up to 50 obstacles and different ways to go, every way is different, from fitting through tires to trying to get through mud with uneven surfaces. The safety is perfect as there are friendly staff all over the water park and mud trail that you can trust. Overall this is a great experience for the family and you can purchase a multi ticket for the water park and the mud trail which is cheaper than buying both separately. I would recommend buying tickets online because you are guaranteed the spot if you book and is cheaper if you book online. The parking is free and there are lots of spots. 10/10 experience!

Loved it. A small car park nearby was free due to construction. Completed pebble beach. Amazing for pebble collectors. And the sunset here is glorious

I've been coming here all my life, it's still one of the most beautiful places in the UK. The beach itself is beautiful, vast and naturally interesting, the views are stunning and at night time you can see millions of stars here. If you're going to the Abbotsbury part of the beach, good parking (paid parking) with toilet facilities and a little cafe. Feels very safe here both day and night.
Jake B — Google review
Beautiful unique beach if you are prepared to walk on the millions of pebbles 😃 You need strong legs to get near the water from Abbotsbury car park, not ideal for trolleys. Once you are by the water the sensation is indescribable 🤩🤩🤩 If you enjoy fishing 🎣 you will have plenty of competitors 😃 There is a carpark that you can pay on the machine by the the bar or by phone
Gloria S — Google review
Want a challenge? Walk this entire Chesil Beach from Fortuneswell (Quibbles cafe)to West Bay (The George Hotel). I did it 6 years ago but soon realized that I hadn't taken in just how tiring the pebbles can be for walking on. I ended that walk at Abbotsbury due to not having enough time. So I have done it again for its entire length this time. Forget running. Walking is more efficient. I believe that you can walk this beach all year, even during the bird season, 01/05 to 31/08 as long as you keep to the side of the sea. A lone walker may still be ok to walk as long as they do not disturb nature. But ask at the Chesil Beach visitor centre first. They will also inform you of any recent events, like landslides or rockfalls that may hamper your progress. I made a mistake of asking tourists who misguided me. Not to worry, it didn't put me off. I just got on with it and was soon back on track. Update: Did it for the last time today, Wednesday 24 September, entirely by beach, using tidal times for optimum beach width. No diversions. See proof of route photo. Some tips for those who fancy this walk. Check tide times. Check seasonal restrictions. Check firing range..MOD. Take a fully charged mobile phone. Take snacks and drinks. Don't rush it. Enjoy it. It's a mammoth task for most. Regular breaks. Start early, around 07:00 but before 09:00. Duration depending on the individual is anywhere between 6 hour 40 mins to 13 hours. But most likely, just 9 hours. There is the option to leave the route at the 10 miles ? Point, Abbotsbury car park. No shame if you do. That's the hardest bit to do for anyone. Start from Fortuneswell end of the beach. Begin there at high tide. By the time you get in range of West Bay the tide will be lower. Lower tide means wider beach. Wider beach means safe distance from cliff collapse. Wider beach near Bridport area means no detour to avoid river run off across the beach by Freshwater caravan site. Further on, still keep a safe distance from the cliffs. Due to low tide, some sections of the beach have exposed , hard sand that can be taken advantage of due to low the tide exposing it. See video of smooth, flat gritty sand.

Have a great time fishing for the first time in Chisel beach, we were lucky to catch some mackerels. Shore is mostly pebbles so make sure to have the right footwear. Nice view of the hill and Isle of Portland from this area as well. Camping is not allowed in this beach. Will surely comeback for more fishes.

Beautiful beach, has a swimming area to both sides, one under the cliffs and the other to the west, we were told to stay clear of cliffs as they fall. Bring rubber shoes as it's rocky and watch out for kids and adults throwing rocks to see if they have fossils on th. Of fossil hunting, bring a hammer. Has a nice little shop that sells fossils and mementos as well as a visitor center, which is free. Slippery rocks during low tide and a lot of small pools for little ones to explore.

Lovely place to go for a stroll along the coastline, especially on a sunny day... we'll worth a stop at the cafe for a bap and a sausage roll to replenish. Lots of folk fishing along the shore and big waves to test your running legs against. Well worth the trip to see Chesil beach!

Lyme Regis Museum is housed in a purpose-built Victorian building and offers displays on local history, geology, and fossils. The town's iconic harbor, The Cobb, has been a central part of Lyme Regis life since the 14th century and has been featured in famous films. Visitors can delve into the area's natural history at the museum, including the remarkable discoveries of prolific fossil hunter Mary Anning.
Lovely museum with lots of interesting exhibits. Our Grandson aged 3 loved all the dinosaurs. His favourite bit was the interactive box on the first floor and the drawers with puzzles in in the main fossil room
Paul B — Google review
I was really excited to visit this museum as a long time lover of fossils and passionate student of archaeology/ palaeontology. The museum has some really fascinating specimens, but the space feels cramped with inadequate ventilation when overcrowded. Considering the size of the collection, it did feel overpriced for two adults.
Bryony S — Google review
Fascinating. Lots to read. Toilets inside which is helpful. We had a little activity to do on the way round. My 6 year old wasn't overly engaged but she liked the dinosaurs so hopefully it will come in use when she is older. A nice activity to do though if you are visiting

Beautiful little museum. Lovely staff and excellent location. Plus your entry ticket entitles you to free returns for a year! So great value.

The Lyme Regis Museum is a nice small museum in the building Mary Anning once lived in. There are nice exhibits explaining the history of the area and the people who were part of it. There is a small gift shop and friendly staff.
Vanessa B — Google review
Very interesting and informative museum with the history of the town on the first floor with exhibits regarding the filming locations for movies IE: The French Lieutenants Woman starring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons and the second floor dedicated to Mary Anning who's fossil discoveries of ammonites and complete dinosaur skeletons made a long lasting contribution to modern day paleontology.

I highly recommend the Fossil Walk given by the team at the Lyme Regis Museum. It was such a treat for my nephew who is nearly 8 years old. The adults loved it too - especially when I found two ammonites on the Jurassic Coast. It was a very hot day and the guide (Kieran) made sure everyone was hydrating and using suncream. Kieran and his colleague, were so informative and gave a great presentation with samples. My nephew ended up with quite a haul of fossils - it was a dream come true for him, as he wants to be a paleontologist when he grows up. We are going back again!
Kevan B — Google review
A great little museum. It is on a number of floors and some stairs are narrow and spiral. Very friendly and helpful staff. As you would expect from Lyme Regis it has a very good collection of fossils that have been found locally, but there are also some interesting sections about local history. Providing you keep in mind that it is a small local museum, you are unlikely to be disappointed (unless you hate spiral stairs)

West Bay, located in the heart of the Jurassic Coast, is a picturesque harbor village that gained fame as the setting for the popular ITV series, Broadchurch. The stunning golden sandstone cliffs and clear seas provide a beautiful backdrop to this charming fishing village. Visitors can enjoy traditional seaside treats like fish and chips and West Country ice cream from harborside kiosks while taking in views of the shingle beach and promenade.
Very popular little coastal harbour. Lots of coming and going of trawlers. Usually a good few motorcycles arriving to have a look at, many seats placed around. A good few places to eat and drink, brilliant kiosks, and lovely local pubs. The local bus service goes to some beautiful places, but is very infrequent, and can be extremely busy. Very steep coastal path walks, but what a view from the top.

Another stunning place added to the bucket list. Very nice and relaxing place. Had a short hike on top of the cliff and you can see another perstpective of the place. Lots of lovely shops around.

West Bay of "Broadchurch" fame is a lovely seaside town. It has a beautiful harbour and beach with dramatic cliffs. There's plenty of places to eat, all good. There is a general store with very friendly staff and an interesting antiques emporium My favourite place was sitting near the harbour, early morning, with a very decent coffee from "Rachels" one of the food huts nearby.
Kaz E — Google review
Very popular tourist destination on the Dorset coast near Bridport, with great views of the iconic golden cliffs featured in the TV series Broadchurch. An accessible beach, pier, bustling harbour, plenty of cafés, restaurants, amusements and lots of paid parking make West Bay ideal for a family day out. Personally I prefer the quieter, less developed parts of the coastline. There are some interesting buildings around the harbour, but to my eyes it's not half as pretty as many of the smaller, less well known villages in Dorset. If you enjoy places like Golden Cap or Chesil Beach, the bustle of West Bay probably won't be for you, but as a traditional seaside town it's a good option, and a nice change to see a seaside town thriving when many are in decline.
Andrew T — Google review
Lovely little sea side town, known from the series broadchurch Thought the parking a little high at £3 hour. It also got extremely busy. Plenty of people crabbing around the harbour. Boat hire. Chip shops the usual.
Andrea C — Google review
All you could ask for, lovely beach with a long prom, a harbour, parking close by with toilets, a couple of pubs and cafés. Not all were open but it was quite early in the season (March)

A nice place overall. Car parks expensive, although quite a few of them.. The beach is full of stones. A harbour Boat rides available from the harbour Cliff walks Plenty of drink places, and a few cafes Few shops Toilets And do check out the train carriages turned into an eating place !!! Beach dog friendly in certain places. Common place for bikers to stop.

It's the magaluf of dorset... Like the great sage, Karl pilkington once said.. When Ricky Gervais ,booked him into a cave, overlooking the beautiful pink palace in Persia... He was looking out on too the palace Whilst they were looking at his hole,in the ground. Excactly what west bay has become. And like my father who loved exploring said,a bed is a bed. But the trouble is . Most bring the kitchen sink ,with them ..! One star is being gracious. If I could give none I would. It's a Mish mash of archectitire, which doesn't sit lightly on the eyes . As soon as you pass endless caravans ,vying for space, with once middle class homes coming into west bay, then you can see where it's gone wrong..! And the icing on the pyre is the new ugly grey flats which stare you in the face. Adjacent to what Billy Butlins would throw up ,in the forties/fifties.. Or a shopping precinct 1960,s which had long since seen better days Not at all in keeping with the Jurassic coast in fact plain ugly. And right on the waters edge...? Buffeted by harsh altantic rollers I wouldn't like too be on the balconies in winter nor my beloved expense pet cat..using his litter tray.. Across ,are 1960 towering some six storeys high flats ( somebody said Georgian, doesn't make them more ssthetic pleasing too the eye) also not in keeping with say a little fishing village like Fowey ,mevasgissey or polperro,in Cornwall. That's where they've gone wrong It was a sleepy like I said fishing village in keeping with it's surroundings and should have been developed on that theme. As it is just urban sprawl.. The only two redeeming features. My second cousins tea cabin in the square. Her doughnuts freshly cooked were too die for. And you can still get a mug of tea for under a fiver. And secondly the pub, where everybody goes after travelling on their motorbikes for a shandy? If they haven't been copped by the law,in one of thoses pretty little villages like swyre, with a blind bend where they hide on a Sunday !! Ready too pounce on the unwary.. Will take pictures.. The most impressive sight too behold is the far reaching Jurassic coast, milked too death by the tourist board.. but it is impressive ,because I'm amazed every time I open my window . I live the other end off chesil beach ,Portland And my grandfather's father was a farmer,as was he. And many a ship has been wrecked, and the locals have profited .still do. It's in our blood,so to speak. Just recently a large container ship which had broke her back. Containers washed up on the shore... Containing brand new BMW,motorbikes..! Bedlam possued,as everybody grabbed what they could before the excise men,in olden days, muskets drawn, came over the hill. Not saying my forefathers were looters. We attended church in a regular basis ! But west bay. Has had it day. And needs too have a bulldozer visit.

Thanks to the team at Lyme Bay RIB charter for an incredible trip along to Lyme Regis. With all three boats out filming for their socials yesterday, it was a fun and thrilling trip. Living close to West Bay, this was something I have wanted to do for a long time but never quite got round to! I would recommend it for both locals and tourists as an amazing way to see our beautiful Jurassic coastline.

In all the years we've been to West Bay we'd never done the Lyme Bay RIB, so we finally did this year and wasn't disappointed! One adult and two children cost £65 for the coastal cruise down to Seatown and back up to West Bay. Staff were thoughtful and conscientious of children, picking the best boat for them depending on clients, and seating them where they'd be most comfortable. Skipper Tom was brilliant, stopping and pointing out local areas and sights as we went along. We will definitely be having another go in the future... Maybe brave it up for the 15 minute Blast! Staff also upfront and honest about sea conditions - if they can't take you out they'll refund you or book you on another day. Top crew!

Fantastic fun for all the family! Whether you’re local or on holiday, you have to go on a rib ride! There are lots of different options ranging from scenic, more chilled rides to fast thrill seeking rides. The Jurassic Coast has to be seen from the water… it’s breathtaking. The team at Lyme Bay Rib Charter are absolute professionals and safety is paramount. We look forward to our next rib ride!
Amy H — Google review
Having looked online and seen the options, I figured that our party of 12 would appreciate a "best of both" experience starting from West Bay, near Bridport, and ending at Lyme Regis. As this particular dish was not on the Lyme Bay RIB Charter menu, I picked up the phone and spoke with LBRC's very polite, knowledgeable and helpful Zoe. We agreed on an à la carte package that would combine sightseeing with the fast, furious and frantic! And we certainly got our money's worth... Our skipper, Milo, first took us East down the coast on a relatively sedate jaunt to Bridport, where he turned off the engines and stopped the RIB a few hundred yards out from the beach. Very scenic, very enjoyable. After a couple of minutes, though, it was time to fire up the engines, open the throttles and light up the afterburners as 700hp propelled us West towards Lyme Regis at SPEED, lifting up and crashing down as the RIB ploughed across the choppy late-October waters. After some time, we slowed down to catch our breaths, and I swapped my row four (out of six) seat for one at the FRONT. Then it was back up to SPEED. Wow, wow, wow, wow, WOW! Our exhilarating 45 minute experience came to an end as we slowly navigated into the harbour at Lyme Regis - 12 smiling faces and 12 great memories. Would we do it all again? NOT HALF! Tried to add a photo, but I failed.
Paul D — Google review
We had such a great trip on the RIB. Everyone was professional and we had safety advice prior to going out. My partner was a bit unsure on the trip, waving to the skipper behind us bought the RIB to a complete stop instantly, my partner was then seated at the back of the boat where she felt alot better. The seating allows you to experience different levels of the ride. I sat at the front and loved it. Would go again for sure loved every minute of it.

Kimmeridge Bay is a hidden gem located on the Jurassic Coast within the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve. It offers a variety of activities such as rock pooling, fossil hunting, snorkeling, and surfing. The area is known for its stunning beauty and is perfect for families looking for an authentic coastal experience. Visitors can explore rock pools, delve into mysterious marine life, and even engage in board sports like surfing and paddleboarding.
Tucked away but what a fab spot! Really nice view and great snorkeling. £6 to park but that's not bad. A few food places but can't remember seeing any toilets. Definitely worth a visit
Paul H — Google review
It costs 6 pounds but I do like this beach. Certain areas are on flat terraces and are shallow which are great for swimming and paddling. Fossils are embedded into the terraces. You can pick up fallen rocks along the beach looking for fossils. The permanent outdoor cafe serves amazing chips. The Sea Life center is charming and welcoming. There is ice cream and clean toilets.
Laura F — Google review
A gorgeous cove and beach area which still attracts a lot of people but is much calmer than Bournemouth and Poole. It costs £6 to park for the day which is great considering the costs of other car parks. There are places to get food and drink as well as toilets nearby. The scenery is stunning with lots of wildlife, fossil hunting possibility and rock pools to explore. The rock formations in the area are fascinating and just up the road is The Etches Collection Museum to add to that fossil hunting mindset!
Jamie H — Google review
Excellent rock-pooling (check the tides) and fossil hunting (beware of crumbling cliffs). A good base for coastal walks. The Dorset Wildlife Trust exhibition is a must, especially with young ones. Food and coffee available although we didn't avail ourselves. Get there early for the best parking spots along the cliff top
Paul T — Google review
Beautiful nature, fresh sea air. Pebbly beach. The layers in the rock face were fascinating to me and you can see a lot of pieces of stone with imprints of fossils. Easy enough walk down but may be steep for some. Not too busy. A nice place to stop on a coastal walk.
DP — Google review
Toll road to a car park. Best to see when the ride is out. Lots of fossil's and flat skimming stones to play with. Plenty of people swim here, but not me.
Laurie M — Google review
Love Kimmeridge, have been coming here for years. Pleased to see more toilets have been installed, was surprised to see food vans there now. I suppose it's good if you like that sort of thing, typically selling overpriced food and drinks. Will always love visiting this place.
Kerry-anne P — Google review
What an absolutely amazing place for swimming and even more so for snorkeling. £6 all day parking, 2 car parks to choose from. We headed to the biggest car park and bagged a space on the front row overlooking the bay but that was quite early (8.30am) In this car park there are nice toilets (don't open until midday for some reason) and a drink/snack truck and a food truck. About 20 downward steps to the beach which is all large pebbles and rocks when you get down there. Very little shade after mid morning so beware of that. Walk along to the right and the rock formations that you walk across are awesome, spot the odd ammonite too. A brilliant spit of rock part way down is great for swimming and snorkeling off at low tide. Drive (or walk) to the other car park that takes you to the Sea Life centre and another beach area to swim off with a slip way to launch paddlebaords/knacks from. Again great snorkeling with some good drops down to the sea bed. The centre is really good, the staff knowledgeable and very happy to answer questions. Interesting selection of living ranks that constantly change inhabitants! Be aware the toilets on the way down to the centre are not that nice!! Not as well wkpt on busy days at all.

Beautiful views across the coast line, around Weymouth to Portland. I parked in the National Trust car park, which is a bit of a steep trek down to the bay, not for the unfit. There is another general car park much closer where the little Cafe is. That's £6 to park. They do take cards, but were cash only due to broken machine. Blessed with a beautiful day.

Chapmans Pool is a secluded and beautiful wild beach located in a small cove, surrounded by fossil-rich cliffs. Accessible via a moderately challenging walk from the village of Worth Matravers, the path can be steep and slippery at times. However, the stunning beach and enchanting old quarries at Winspit make it worth the journey. The area offers a peaceful retreat away from busy tourist spots, with no shops or facilities available.
If you don't like hiking go somewhere else or get a jetpack. If you do walk down you'll be rewarded with a lovely little cove full of interesting rocks and fossils. Dogs are welcome. I think children are, too. There are no facilities, not that I could find anyway, so don't expect to buy ice-creams or postcards. At a price of £0 the car park is great value. Enjoy!

Oh wow what an absolute gem of a find, very steep and muddy to climb down, so tie your wellies on, but well worth it, as the views and fossil finds are amazing. Absolutely not suitable for prams (yes I actually saw a mother down there with one) stuck!

Well worth the steep but short hike down from Renscombe Car Park. We went down a pretty step narrow path, there is a rope there which you would need if the ground was wet. I’m sure there is a longer easier route if you are less mobile/abled Once on the beach/cove it was littered with hundreds and hundreds or fossils.

Coombe Cottage is a cozy two-bedroom property just a stone's throw away from the beach, making it convenient for beachgoers. Guests can easily check in using a key safe and enjoy exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast, known for fossil hunting and stunning landscapes.
The Coombe Cottage is absolutely perfect. The location is only a minute from the beach, restaurants, and plenty of shops. The cottage is well prepared with everything you would need for a great stay. We stayed as a family of four and it was a perfect fit. Top things we loved: proximity to town, shops, beach, fossil hunting. The beds were very comfortable. The unit was incredibly clean and well stocked with everything you would need. A wonderful children's park is only a 6 min walk from the unit. Parking is easy and only a 5 min walk from the unit. The company Jurassic Properties was outstanding. They were incredibly helpful and accommodating. The company allowed us to have a late check out and early check in to allow us to maximize our time in Lyme Regis. The company is also very responsive with any questions regarding your stay or visit to Lyme Regis. There is absolutely nothing negative about this company and I couldn't recommend it enough. We had a lovely time in the Baker's Loft. The directions to get into the flat and its amenities were clear prior to our arrival. We had a slight issue with heating the first night but Ed was extremely responsive and helpful. The location is right in the centre of town and there was a couple of parking options close by. The property itself was decorated nicely and had anything we could have wanted/needed. We'll definitely be back!

The sofa and beds were very comfortable and thank you for the prosecco! I recommend visiting the fox and owl cellar cinema under the stars!

Bonus points for on site parking which was big enough for our van.
