Pub
Nestled in the Castlefield area, The Wharf is a spacious establishment with a charming outdoor terrace and boules court. It offers panoramic views of the beautiful canal and is a popular choice for those seeking an al fresco experience. The pub's large interior provides ample space for patrons, with cozy alcoves for more intimate gatherings. As one of the most dog-friendly pubs in Manchester, it welcomes four-legged visitors inside and offers water and biscuits.
One of our favourite pubs in Manchester. Great place to drink both in winter and summer - in winter they have a few heaters outdoors but not many so it can be quite chilly, but they bring out a cover so still a great place to sit. Fish and chips were great, it’s definitely not a cheap place to drink and eat but very relaxed and no loud music! Only thing to be aware of is the run club meets here on Wednesdays, not an issue but just makes it quite busy. And on a sunny day you will be pressed to find outdoor seating. Overall a fantastic pub is a great location by the canals.
Laura F — Google review
The Wharf in Castlefield is a spacious, well-run pub with a strong focus on food and drink. Set along the canal, it offers a scenic spot for a pint or meal, especially on warmer days when the outdoor terrace fills up quickly. Inside, the layout is open yet cosy, with real fires and plenty of seating. The menu covers British classics like fish and chips and Sunday roasts, alongside more refined dishes. Portions are generous, and the quality is consistent. The beer selection is excellent, with 12 hand-pulled ales and ciders, including local brews and rotating guests. Service is friendly and efficient, even when it’s busy. It’s not the cheapest pub in Manchester, but the setting and quality make it worth it. A solid choice for a relaxed meal or drink by the water.
Patrik K — Google review
One of my go-to spots in Castlefield. I’ve been many times and it’s consistently tasty — solid pub food done well, generous portions, and hot to the table. Great choice of beers (cask and craft) and a nice, reasonably priced wine list. Friendly staff and a relaxed, canalside atmosphere make it easy to linger with friends. Not fancy — just reliably good and welcoming every time.
Serg M — Google review
Visited on Easter Sunday. I hadn't booked as we didn't know what time we'd be there. Even though it was very busy, they still found us a table for 2 upstairs straight away. Staff calmly kept everyone fed and watered. Food was lovely.
Claire B — Google review
The Wharf is a charming and traditional pub with a lovely atmosphere, perfect for a cozy meal or drinks by the canal. The food was delicious and comforting, definitely worth the visit. The only downside was the slightly long wait for both food and service, which lacked a bit of energy. Still, it’s a great spot if you’re not in a rush and want to enjoy a relaxed, classic pub experience.
Regina S — Google review
Always a fan of the Wharf for a special time, and you can't beat it on a Sunday for a roast, pie, or Asian-fusian salad. Ideal for a date or a classy yet casual catch up with pals. A great selection of pints that are local, broader UK, continental Europe, and classics. They always have at least one gluten free beer on tap at a time, this time was the Brightside Bitter, but often have an alternative option. There are food options for all with the menu having extensive catering for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. The staff are allergen aware and I have never had a problem eating here. They offer veggie and GF savoury pies and roasts, and GF fish and chips, as well as desert options which is a rare treat. The good is reliably hot and tasty, never rushed. They can run out of popular dishes especially by late on a Sunday, but that is to be expected of a place this busy. I had the crispy beef salad (GF) which was very flavourful and had perfect textures. Parking can be validated to avoid paying anything using an iPad at the bar. There is an accessible entrance, I believe an accessible loo too. Upstairs toilets are always very clean, as pleasant as a loo can be.
Lea S — Google review
One of the few proper gastro pubs in central Manchester. Always have a laugh and good time when I'm here. Drink selection is great, food is delicious, atmosphere is wonderful, can't fault it.
Jack D — Google review
I'd just like to thank Kienan for his excellent service last night. We were quite a big family party but our food and drinks arrived promptly and to the usual excellent standard that we've come to expect from the Wharf. Kienan made sure that we were seated in a quieter area as one of our group is elderly which was hugely appreciated. We have been coming to the Wharf for years and it has never let us down.

Pub
The Marble Arch Inn is a historic pub in Manchester, offering a traditional drinking experience with a selection of its own and guest beers. The establishment also serves food, including cheeseboards. With its beautiful architecture and original features dating back to the 1880s, the interior provides a nostalgic ambiance. It's not just about beer; the inn also offers fine wines by the glass from a Coravin system and deli plates for those seeking an alternative to beer.
Wow what a visit. Huge variety of beers 🍻 two ciders and a fruity beer on offer. You are able to order Sunday Lunch or alternatively a cheese board of choice selecting more 🧀 increases the cost. The pork belly was 😋 really nice 👌. We also ate dessert cheese cake and sticky toffee pudding 🍮. The American 🇺🇸 pilsner goes down a treat and they have plenty of 🍷 wines that are vegan friendly. The pub is very clean the decor is amazing having being built in 1888. They also have toilets and plenty of seating outside in the back. I highly recommend.

We had been seeking out some fish & chips and heard that The Marble Arch Inn had some of the best in the area. We were greeted very kindly by a man behind the bar and he quickly took our drink order and notified us that there was a quiz night about to take place. There is a delightful garden out back with cozy heated booths. That is where we decided to reside for our dinner and drinks. The fish & chips were absolutely on point and the selection of beers was great. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a bite to eat and quality drinks.
Tyrell S — Google review
I took my friends here for a Sunday roast: it’s one of the more reasonably priced places in Manchester. I opted for lamb, while they got beef. As you can see in the pic, it came with a very reasonable amount of veg (carrots, roasties, spring greens, parsnips and a bit of cauliflower cheese) as well as a perfectly acceptable Yorkshire pudding. Their feedback was that the beef was too fatty- it sounded like the people on the table next to us experienced the same. It came quick! I would probably sample roast dinners at other venues before returning here.
TFT — Google review
I would definitely go back to The Marble Arch Inn. It is about a 15 minute walk from the central mall shopping center, so it was definitely worth it if you are near there. The place was packed so I definitely recommend a reservation. The food was tasty and enough amount for the price. Also there is a wide selection of beers and IPAs. We had the panko fried chicken sandwich with pickled fennel and chilli jam, and the fish and chips. We enjoyed the food and the environment. Totally recommended in Manchester.
Obie R — Google review
Gosh, I'd not been here in at least 10 years, but it was good to see it had not changed. Gorgeous Victorian tiles, great beer selection with passionate staff, and really good consistent food. We came here before an event and booked a table just in case. Between us, we ordered fish and chips upon tofu salad, chicken burger, and black pudding burger. The fish was huge with fab home-made chips. My udon salad was plentiful with some great flavours, the shitaki mushrooms and asparagus in it were nom. My own gripe was edename were swapped out with regular peas. Everyone was really happy with their food. Oh and the cauliflower starter was delicious too. I will say it can get quite loud easily due to the nature of the architecture. Still, it was nice to be back!

Told about this place from friends. Very friendly staff throughout. Dog friendly inside too, which is always a bonus for us. Food was very nice and would go back again.

The Britons Protection, located in Manchester, Greater Manchester, is a historic pub with ornate interiors and a wide range of whiskies. As one of the city's oldest watering holes, it boasts a collection of over 300 whiskies and offers a good selection of local ales. The spacious beer garden is a popular spot for visitors to enjoy the sunshine and relax. Additionally, the pub features open fires where patrons can unwind with a drink in hand.
This is still a great pub, but is no longer the whisky pub it once was. The cask ale is still great, with a good number of hand pumps from a nice range of breweries, but the whisky selection has been dramatically reduced since 2024 but is still above average. Regardless, a lovely old school pub, with a lovely atmosphere.
H H — Google review
Fantastic pub! This is the first time I have been in 15 years (since when I used to work there), it's just a shame that the whiskeys are gone. But I'm sure there's a reason. Still a cracking pub!

FOOD = BEER Excellent pints of Murphy's and Guinness Appreciated the tip for Frankies Toasties when asked for a sandwich shop recommendation.

Great old english pub, but no longer vhiskey pub.
Aleš O — Google review
This is a gem of a place which looks and feels quaint, old British and charming. It fosters vibrant meetings and has some exquisite Victorian decor (if a tad unkempt). I already notice the William Morris wallpaper in the function room upstairs has been painted over, so I'm a bit worried that this direction might continue under the new (corporate ) owner, thus stripping it of its precious historic character. We have very few of these old pubs left, and it would hurt the local community endlessly for the Briton's Protection to also slip into mid grey corporate sludge. Historic heritage needs to be protected not painted over.

A truly amazing pub. Just down the street from The Peveril. Tons of history in here. Lots of unique drinking rooms. Front bar is isolated from the rest of the pub. There’s even a beer garden! Great draft and cask options and a lovely bar staff. Just can’t beat a place like this.
Matthew G — Google review
One of the best, friendliest whisky bars I have been to. Alan is a real whisky lover and knows everything about them. The bar is full of rare independet bottlings and you can get very well priced tasting flights. Our few hours there went so fast drinking and talking about whisky I barely noticed it. Will come back for sure! Absolutely recommended!

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming suburb of West Didsbury, The Metropolitan is a delightful local pub and restaurant that truly shines during the summer months. With its expansive canopied outdoor seating, it offers a perfect blend of sun and shade for those looking to enjoy leisurely afternoons or Sunday roasts. This inviting establishment stands out not just for its impressive architecture but also for its sprawling garden, making it an ideal spot for families and dog owners alike.
Recently went for food after work here, food was served really quickly and very fresh. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food/allergens, they also let us know about this month's new spritz and drink offers which looked super summery. Will have to come back on a weekend and try them ☺️
Amanda F — Google review
This evening, we visited this establishment for a pleasant dinner, and we had a great experience. The interior atmosphere was quite elegant and relaxing. The option to sit outside was a nice touch; we enjoyed a peaceful and serene environment in the outdoor seating area. Although the menu didn’t have too many options, the dishes we tried exceeded our expectations in terms of flavor. The food was fresh and carefully prepared. The quality and presentation of the main courses were particularly impressive. There was also a variety of beers available, and I can say they were very fresh, served cold and delicious. We experienced a few minor issues with the service; the orders took a bit longer to arrive, and a few small details were missed. However, the staff was polite and attentive, which positively impacted our overall experience. I would also like to mention that the prices were quite reasonable for the quality, offering a good balance of value for both the food and the atmosphere. In conclusion, we had a lovely evening with delicious food and a peaceful atmosphere. With a few more menu options, this place could be even more perfect. I definitely recommend it!

Fantastic local pub. Again visited on a whim with friends. From the moment we walked through the door the welcome was phenomenal. The lady who looked after us just knew how to do her job so well. The place itself has lots of area to sit and it just felt like being at home. I had the gammon which was salty and delicious and served with a quarter of a pineapple. Really excellent food and service.

This place is a wonderful pub with great beer selection and atmosphere. I paticularly appreciated Ben and Harry who could not do enough to help. They both had great recommendations and brilliant customer service. Such a great night!

First visited this huge pub about 50 years ago. Been back a few times. A very wealthy area now, once a home to cheap student digs. Ic and Flic have never been to a bigger pub, even bigger than I remember. Caters for all needs. Six real ales. Multiple rooms. Huge outdoor area, huge conservatory. YV's showing sport. Busy kitchen and a pizza oven outside. Had a lovely pint from Coach House brewery. Ic n Flic had an excellent Provence Rosé.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Great place to eat in an iconic landmark steeped in history. Its not the cheapest pub in these northern lands, thats for sure, but the food and service is great, making the extra pennies worth the spend. I had the lamb shank that was cooked to perfection. A rich and tasty old favorate that satisfied my belly and was well capped with decent bottle of clarett. the decor is traditional and fitting for the experience, and the staff are friendly, helpfull and kind. I enjoyed my evening here with my lovely wife, and would be more than happy to repeat it again. Bravo Met, still excellent, and still true to itself.
Louis M — Google review
An alright roast. The mains were good - recommend the veggie wellington. The yorkshires were good too and the unlimited yorkshires and potatoes. The vegetables were a bit hard though and undercooked. Overall it was a good roast but did not blow me away with the high price. The service was really good 😊
Chloe F — Google review
The food was absolutely delicious with fresh ingredients and great presentation. The atmosphere was cozy yet stylish, perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. Most of all, the service was outstanding — Hannah took such great care of us and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Definitely a place I’d love to come back to!

City Arms is a traditional pub located in the heart of Manchester, offering a wide selection of cask ales, local craft beers, and familiar pub fare. The two-roomed establishment features polished leather banquettes, black-and-white photos, and etched mirrors. It attracts regulars from the surrounding business district as well as beer enthusiasts looking for an unpretentious city pub experience. Great traditional old boozer with a great beer selection. 4* because of the flies... they were unbearable on my visits during the summer and are still there on 31st Oct. Sort it out.
Hazzawynne — Google review
A truly fun, cozy pub that was rockin’ on an early Friday afternoon. Full of groups of friends catching up over some fine ales. Rustic is an understatement. This place has seen its share of time and patrons. Young, friendly guy at the bar explained some of their cask options, of which there are many. Plenty of regular draft, too. An absolute classic of a pub that I fear will disappear based on the age of the clientele.
Matthew G — Google review
I’m from Sweden! I’ve met bartender Allan four years ago and he always amaze me with his deliverance of whiskey! The history, the tastes and more. He has a great knowledge for beers as well. Go to this place and ask for Allan, he’s the greatest! The atmosphere here is also top notch! ✌️💪

This is one of the finest surviving Ale Pubs in Manchester city centre. This gem has been grade 2 listed since 1974 & is well worth seeking out. The current management team are very friendly & helpful. Beers are stocked from far & wide including some unusual regional specials, eg Neptune from Maghull, that you are unlikely to find elsewhere in the city centre. Looking forward to my next visit Cheers !

Cracking boozer in Manchester City centre. Large selection of ale including gluten and vegan options. 2 main rooms both with a nice ambience for drinking. Small outside area at back which is sheltered. Very good service behind the bar. Sells jumbo packs of midland pork scratchings for £2. Highly recommended is this pub 🍻 🐷

The New Oxford is a traditional pub located in Salford, Manchester, offering a rustic atmosphere with memorabilia and outdoor seating. It's known for its monthly beer festival and is popular among locals and beer enthusiasts. The pub boasts up to 18 cask ales on tap at any given time, along with a variety of bottled Belgian and continental beers. Additionally, it features a function room for football viewing and has garnered praise for its friendly staff and large selection of reasonably priced beers.
Fantastic pub. Extensive back bar with lots of whisky, multiple guest ales and some of the best Guinness you’ll find outside of Ireland (although the head in one of my photos was slightly to big, it was still superb). Sport on the tv, but doesn’t distract from the craic. Staff always quick with their service. Really good.

Living in Salford since 2018. Decided to finally pop in on the walk home. Didn't know it was an Irish pub judging by the whiskey selection behind the bar. Great to see. However I'm knocking 2 stars off because we aren't in Ireland and they aren't serving cask via sparkler. Shocking scenes. Go down to London for that stuff. London prices too.

Spoilt for choice of beer here (and also Sports channels) - check the boards to see what’s pouring. If in doubt the knowledgeable bar staff will assist. Well worth seeking out - only 5 minutes from Salford Central.

Beautiful spot for some quiet drinks with friends and family, so far have had a great experience with the staff. Especially Sally who’d let us stay long after close to get us more drinks, excellent effort to make us enjoy our experience at this cosy pub.

Lovely traditional pub in Salford. Amazing selection of beer from keg cask and bottle. If you’re into belgium beers you’re in luck. Friendly service. Outside seating. A short walk from city centre. Recommended. 🍻 🇧🇪

Had a terrible time ordering myself a drink. Personally don’t know much about Ales so I asked the lady at the bar counter about the best selling ale so I could give it a try. However she was the most rudest bar attendant I have ever met. She said she can’t suggest as she doesn’t know my taste and all of them are best sellers. Extremely disappointed. Never going to visit them again.
Melroy D — Google review
Whilst the range of beers was good here, including unfiltered moretti which is fantastic, it is more expensive than it should be for a pub outside the city centre. Unfortunately, I was also served a bitter that had gone off slightly and upon letting the staff know they claimed it was fine. It wasn't undrinkable but would be the kind of beer you'd expect being sold at 50% off. This left a sour taste in my mouth (pun intended).
Matthew H — Google review
Loads of tables outside and a large choice of beers. Bartender was nice and chatty and had some knowledge of the whiskeys. Loads of tables to sit on outside. Atmosphere was none existent. I imagine it's better when there is a match on.

Function room facility
The Castle Hotel is a historic pub in Manchester known for its live music and literary events, as well as its selection of real ales. Despite its unassuming exterior, the back room of the pub transforms into an intimate venue hosting various performances, from local folk nights to acclaimed bands like Alt-J. The pub's rich history dates back to 1776, and it has maintained its traditional charm with Victorian-era decor and a classic jukebox.
Nice, old-fashioned very traditional British pub with a cool back room where bands play. Friendly service and a good atmosphere, the back room is small so perfect for an intimate gig. Good selection of beers on at the bars including Robinson's Trooper which is a personal fave!
Jon H — Google review
An attractive building from the outside, and small bar area at the front with seating round the back. There seemed a good selection of beers/ ales, but £6.80 for an average pint of Guinness was a little harsh. Great venue for live music however, and enjoy the fact they offer small bands/ musicians a place to play.

A Manchester institution... though one of many. Well kept Robinsons real ales provide a familiar welcome on a rare return to the city. A young crowd on a late Monday evening.
Steve M — Google review
Great traditional venue with good music. Small rooms for music so booking essential. Push to the front, rather than hanging at the back, there is always room close to the stage. Watch out for the mosh pit. Staff in the Castle are lovely, as are the patrons.

Fantastic pub with a long history dating back to 1776. Attractive tiled bar and has a couple of rooms and a very small outside yard with a few seats. We'll known as a lively music venue giving local talent an opportunity to perform. Excellent cask ales. Friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

This is 100% a music pub, if there isn't a band on there's something playing in the background, which was quite fun when you can hear the guys in the taproom singing this charming man. . Personally i don't think the beer range was too good but they were all on form and very drinkable . This is a very friendly and welcoming place for a beer and i would defiantly go back,All in all not bad at all.

Absolutely cracking wee pub. Selection of ales and not a bad guiness. Staff were really nice. Would loved to have been there when there was a live band playing. Really cool old juke box to enjoy a good tune or two. Will be back next time in Manchester.

Very typical old style bar... nothing flash, wooden seats and tables. Not a big pub but beers served are of excellent quality.... a bit like going back in time to an old workers bar. Worth a visit to get away from city madness.

Only had time to pop in for a quick pint but worth the effort. For an old git like me, this is a proper pub, warm welcome, friendly punters and a great atmosphere.. Good selection of beers and good prices. No food because we were getting something along the road. If you like a traditional feel to a pub this place is a must pop in destination. Enjoy

Didsbury is a charming neighborhood in Manchester that offers a delightful mix of attractions. The Didsbury pub, located near the picturesque Fletcher Moss Botanical Garden, provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for families to enjoy traditional British dishes. From red wine lasagne to steak and wine pie, the menu features an array of hearty options, including classic desserts like Eton Mess and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
Popped in to warm myself up as I was waiting on doing a group activity with an organiser. Was greeted by Becci and sat down to a lovely cup of tea and a double espresso for a Sunday morning followed by a mini brekkie - a slice of sourdough toast with fried egg and beans. I can’t comment much on the food itself but it was enough to sustain my hunger till lunch time. I like the ambient and doctor here. Got a bit of a rustic vibe. Thank you Becci for brightening my morning.

Again just ok quite busy warm with open fires service good but food was 3/5 if totally honest bit of a lamb Henry covered in mash so called buttered greens nuked veg devoid of butter the pork belly very soft no crispy top all points too microwaved pre cooked meals . 3/5 just ok nothing special Update following day all upset stomach’s so dropped food score to 1 won’t be back 🙄

Got to The Didsbury 10 minutes early to be told that they had forgotten to reserve our table, finally got seated and ordered the Sunday Trio, meal came and looked very poor compared to eating there previously, gravy was too thick to poor and veg was sparse, beef was advertised as pink but was overcooked and so was the turkey, very dry and didn’t get any mash or roast potatoes with the Sunday dinner so queried this to be told the dinner should have had some included, the dinner wasn’t very hot and very poor value. Tbf the staff looked run off their feet and was very polite.

I booked the upstairs function room for a baby shower and was really impressed. We had the £14 per person buffet (with additional £2 tea and coffee) and the food was great, especially the cheese boards and deserts. There was actually too much for us as we had a whole separate buffet for the three gluten free guests, and all ended up taking leftovers home! The staff were helpful and attentive, providing cake stands, napkins, water jugs etc as required, even when it was super busy downstairs due to freshers week. The room was spacious with plenty of room for 20 of us (though could’ve fitted many more), had its own separate toilets, and never felt loud or disturbed by the bar customers downstairs. Altogether it was a good price for the event and I would definitely recommend The Didsbury.

Lovely and very friendly staff. The salad I ordered though was disappointing, a few slices of salmon with dry rocket leaves. For a chef's special there is definitely room for improvement

For the second time my brother and I met up here. Handy parking and pleasant atmosphere. We had the Just for lunch menu. On both occasions the food was dreadful. The potatoes and tart were soggy and Luke warm and looked and tasted as if they had been cooked ages ago . Staff lovely and I regret not complaining at the time. We will be changing our meet up venue from now . Sorry !!

Nestled atop a hill, The White Hart Inn at Lydgate is a charming pub that boasts breathtaking views right from its doorstep. This historic establishment dates back to 1788 and has served various roles over the years, including a police station and schoolhouse. Today, it stands as an inviting gastropub featuring cozy interiors with roaring fires and an impressive selection of real ales for those returning from nearby hikes.
A superb spot for a relaxed Sunday lunch, where dogs are very much welcomed. The food offering is to a very high standard, whilst not the lowest prices, the cost reflects the quality of the produce. All the staff I encountered were excellent and appeared to be very enthusiastic about what they are doing. Cleanliness couldn't be faulted in the public areas.

We booked this hotel late for a work trip and we were so pleased we did. The pub is lovely with welcoming staff 🤩 we arrived late and they managed to fit us in just before the kitchen closed for a lovely rib-eye steak. Really good selection of ales and wines and the rooms were fantastic, I’d definitely recommend staying here!

Their award-winning menu features delights like the renowned Double Bomber cheese and onion pie, complemented by a selection of local cask ales. Not only known for its culinary excellence, the inn also supports disadvantaged local youth through its social enterprise EAT Pennines.
Had a lovely lunch. Fish and chips to die for. Nice pleasant staff. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. Could do with a lighter lunch menu for those who just want a light meal at a reasonable price for lunch. They charge you a 10% service charge which they tell you when you are paying your bill. However they do say they would take it off the bill if you’re not happy to pay. But food, service and pleasant views it was worth it. Would highly recommend.

Amazing pub - food was excellent. We came here en masse (a group of 12) because another restaurant booking had fallen through so I called Eagle and Child in a panic to try and get us all in. They were super accommodating and made us feel so welcome. The food was all tasty and hot and seemed really fresh especially the pies! The manager on that day and the waitress were also excellent and helped us make sure everyone got fed in good time. look forward to going back soon - its the perfect pub to end a ramsbottom walk.

Went for lunch. Booked in advance and got a lovely table in the conservatory window. 2 meals. Smashed steak burger with fries, very tasty. Fish and chips, good fish, but unfortunately, the chips were very tough, having been double fried and/or reheated, service staff efficiently delt with it and replaced them with fries. The mushy peas portion was poor. It was the same size as the tartar sauce, in a 2-inch diameter pot. Overall good, excellent and efficient staff and a great location. Fish and chips were a bit pricey at £18.00 for what you got, and the burger was £17.50. Should both be around £3 less. Would return but wouldn't get the fish and chips again.

Andrew C — Google review
I had fish, chips and mushy peas. The fish was really good if you like plenty of batter; the chips were substandard, rock hard and tasteless. The peas were in a tiny metal 'lookalike' pan, so if you like peas there wouldn't have been enough for you. I wish I'd complained about the chips at the time.

The Saturday Lunch Club visited yesterday, we try many Lancashire pub grubs and enjoy the plentiful offerings. Have to say this place tops the list so far, exceptional in every way. The staff are a joy, welcoming, enthusiastic about what they produce , knowledgeable and polite. Thwaites produce my favourite ales, but we'll leave that there - apart from the sensational Rioja!! The food - quite a simplistic menu but when you are torn between a few dishes you know "less is more". I went for lamb skewers to start and chicken supreme for main. The skewers were Michelin grade excellent, I asked the host immediately to pass my compliments to the chef. The fellow lunch clubbers also sampled and agreed, Risotto was the other awesome starter. Mains were excellent, one ribeye slightly over done but corrected with zero fuss, blue cheese and peppercorn sauces were a delight. The four of us could have a great time eating pot noodles in a tent, but when the quality is this good it makes the afternoons an absolute joy. Big thanks to the team, the Saturday lunch club will be back.

The Swan with Two Nicks is a charming 17th-century country pub located on the Dunham Massey estate in Cheshire. It offers a cozy atmosphere with rustic decor, exposed beams, and log fires, making it a perfect place to unwind after exploring the nearby deer park or walking along the Bridgewater Canal. The pub prides itself on its wide selection of premium real ales and freshly cooked food, accompanied by carefully chosen wines.
I first visited this pub 50 yrs ago and am delighted it still retains its original charm and character all these years later although original owners have long since retired! Enjoy visiting every time with friendly staff and quality food! Never disappointed! One of the best!!!

A great dog-friendly country pub tucked down the end of a lane near to Dunham Massey. Plenty of seating inside and out. Lovely local beer selection and good traditional atmosphere. Ate on a July Saturday as table of five, eating mains and puddings. Every main was absolutely fantastic! I ate the chicken, leek and bacon in creamy white wine sauce. This really was delicious! The kids had the chicken and chorizo pasta, with the kitchen making a smaller portion for my youngest, which was good. This was fantastic again - the sauce was really tasty with plenty of meat too. For dessert it was, unfortunately, a little underwhelming after the 5* mains. I ordered the Belgium waffle. While the Cheshire ice cream was great and very generous in portion, the waffle was poor - I suspect one of those generic packet/frozen ones that are all too common sadly. My eldest had chocolate cake, which looked lovely and rich and youngest had ice cream. The staff were really lovely up to and during the meal but, after the bill came, we were left hanging around for quite a while trying to pay. Definitely will return as the main dishes were amazing and want to try some of the other menu choices.

After enjoying a delightful stroll in the local area, we arrived at the establishment. Despite not having made a reservation, we managed to secure a table. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance to guarantee availability. For my meal, I opted for the chicken dish which was incredibly flavorful, accompanied by leeks and veggies. Meanwhile, my partner decided to have a light snack and ordered the Nachos starter. The portion size was quite generous, as evident from the picture, and could easily serve as a main course. It offered excellent value for money. Overall, the food was delicious, and the service provided by the staff members was exceptionally friendly, efficient, and pleasant. I would certainly consider returning in the future. Please note that if you choose to utilise their carpark, it is free of charge. However, it is essential to register your vehicle upon arrival.

We had a truly lovely meal tonight at The Strawbury Duck. The food was absolutely delicious, with very generous portions – excellent value for money. What really stood out, though, was the service. The young barman, who was also waiting on, was an absolute credit to the place. He was incredibly attentive, impeccably well-mannered, and made us feel so welcome. In hospitality, that speaks volumes and makes such a difference – it’s the kind of service that encourages people to come back again and again. So it’s a 10/10 from us – both for the food and definitely for the outstanding service. Highly recommended!

Travelled up for a Sunday Dinner with high expectations. At first these were met but things soon went downhill. The beer was OK and price was to be expected. The location is excellent and plenty of outside seating. Dogs welcome and well catered for. ordered two Sunday roasts, chicken and beef which we thought expensive at £20 each but hoped for quality to match. Sadly, this enthusiasm was misplaced. The beef dinner came on a huge mound of undercooked, chewy cabbage & Cauliflower atop a bed of pureed swede and carrot 3 small slices of beef dipped in gravy with a dry crispy Yorkshire pudding on top. Extra gravy was available as an extra as there was no gravy on anything but the meat. Very poor meal and certainly no value for money. The service was not much better. After a very pleasant greeting we were shown a table (#1) adjacent to the fire exit. This in itself wasn’t an issue but it was used as access to the outside space and the traffic was high. What made it worse was the number of times the door was left open, particularly by the staff who were thoughtless about the discomfort the draft caused the customers. The door itself was clearly marked with a Fire Door, Keep Closed sign but the staff didn’t care about that. All in all a very unpleasant meal only made tolerable by the lovely location and other customers.

I recently visited Worsley Old Hall in Manchester and it really is a special place. The building itself is stunning, full of history and character, with beautiful old features that give it a unique charm. What makes it even better are the large grounds surrounding the hall – there’s so much space to walk around, relax and take in the scenery. It feels peaceful and open, almost like you’ve stepped out of the city into the countryside, with plenty of outdoor seating and garden areas that are perfect for a drink or meal on a sunny day. Inside, it’s cosy and welcoming, with a warm atmosphere and a good balance of traditional style and comfort. The food was delicious, well presented and with a nice choice of dishes, from classic pub favourites to more refined meals. The drinks selection was impressive too, especially the range of real ales and wines. Service was excellent – the staff were friendly, polite and attentive, making sure everything ran smoothly even though it was quite busy. Yes, the prices are a little higher than your average pub, but the overall experience makes it worthwhile. Between the history of the hall, the big open grounds, the comfortable atmosphere and the great food and service, Worsley Old Hall is definitely worth a visit. Whether you’re coming for a meal, a few drinks, or just to enjoy a walk in the gardens, it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression.

Today I only gave 3 stars, not because the food wasn't as good as always it was extremely good. The problem we had was we waited a very long time to receive the food. It looked like too many bookings had been taken. We have been many times and found the food to be really good. Our son took ill while we waited for the food. He attempted to eat the roast beef lunch but he couldn't manage it. As he had the Sunday lunch with a plate of beef potatoes vegetables Cauliflower cheese and part of a Yorkshire pudding, practically the whole meal, I didn't think it unreasonable to ask if it was possible to take away. I was horrified when I saw the idea of a box to takeaway. The lady came to the table with a tiny box that had the whole meal crammed inside. This was very unfortunate and packed in this way was tacky and unprofessional. It certainly did not present your food at its best and frankly gave a poor impression of what should have been a good meal.
Lindsey B — Google review
First time of going there and we turned up not thinking to book a table. Thankfully, they were really accommodating and found us a table in the window. We settled down and our drinks order was taken quickly and we were given the menus. We both settled on their Sunday lunch, 1 beef and 1 pork belly. I kid you not, this was easily the BEST Sunday roast I’ve ever had. We ordered 2 of the sides, Cauliflower cheese & the pork & cranberry stuffing with pigs in blankets. It was a really decent sized portion, really well seasoned (didn’t bother with salt & pepper on it) Could have quite easily walked away after that with a full belly and a smile on my face, but we decided to get 2 desserts and share them. We had the Apple & Peach Crumble aswell as the sticky toffee pudding. Oh my gawd! They were stunning! I honestly don’t have one bad word to say. The food, the staff, the atmosphere… they were all spot on! For 2 mains, 2 sides, 2 desserts and drinks, it cost us £65. We left a £15 tip as we thought it was worth it.

The white House has been serving food for many years, the restaurant is normally quite busy but you don't have to book. I visited last week with a group of four, I had a rump steak with egg, chips and vegetables. The steak was cooked to medium to well the flesh was pink and juicy however the steak was very tough to eat so tough it was difficult to cut even with a steak knife. I was very disappointed and left most of the steak. I understand it is difficult particularly in these times to make the business profitable but I would sooner have a quality steak at half the size to ensure the meal is more enjoyable. The other three guests had a sirloin steak, chicken in a leak sauce, salmon in a sauce. Two guests had a sweet course. The waiters and waitress's were all very friendly and provided a quick service. Unfortunately our other guests were underwhelmed by the quality of the food compared with other local restaurants and for us will not be returning.

The Woodstock is a charmingly restored building offering log fires, seasonal British cuisine, real ales, and a spacious garden. Located in West Didsbury, it boasts a large beer garden with hanging baskets and a shady veranda for enjoying the outdoors. The pub's outdoor seating accommodates up to 168 people, making it an ideal spot for gathering with friends and family.
Incredible place and amazing service especially from Niamh she is an asset couldn't do enough for us. We come for a sunday dinner on the off chance and never been before but will definitely be coming back the share platter is Incredible

We visited for dinner, which was good. The food wasn't gastropub standard but better than your average chain pubs certainly. It's a lovely old building and has a great, extensive beer garden for summer days. As a family meal with kids they had good options for the little ones. As it got later the pub definitely became more of a drinking / social spot than a restaurant so perhaps go on the earlier side if you're eating with children.

Think overall not a great place considering all that Disbury has to offer, would advise looking more in to the town Centre. This Mitchell and Butlers is over priced for food that is clearly just stuck in an oven/fryer straight from the freezer. The highlight was the £8.50 miso chicken skewers- which was probably the equivalent of a 1/3 of a chicken breast on a poor ‘salad’ with a cheap sugary miso imitation sauce. All of the portion sizes were tiny - even for small plates and not representative of the prices charged, with most of them being at least £8. Overall not particularly impressed.

We’ve always been a fan of the Woodstock since we first went when we lived in Didsbury, ten years ago! Today we visited for the first time with our new baby daughter to celebrate our third wedding anniversary with a roast! The Woodstock we believe, do the best roasts in the area. This one didn’t disappoint, and the chicken was as succulent as ever. We also enjoyed the puddings afterwards. It was a really jovial atmosphere and it was also relaxing and nice to have a meal prepared for us with such care. The service staff were also excellent and happy to help. Overall, I rate this meal 10/10. Thanks again for making our third anniversary special and relaxed. As new parents, we really appreciate being looked after, cooked for and cared for!

Was served by the Lovely Emily who was our waitress during the service. Could not fault the food at all (I had thr Burger and chips). It was juicy and had all the veg, bacon and beef I was looking for!) Catered to us brilliantly and even provided us with new Condiments. She was always smiling and joked about her height when she provided is fresh cultalry. Overall a lovely experience, a lovely Pub and a great waitress! Don't let her go as she was amazing throughout! 5 stars, will definitely return when we can!!!

This was... OK. The place seems nice but very much set up for maximum income. Several items (including, but not only, everything cooked in their pizza oven) off the menu, things asked for not delivered... The food didn't make us feel like we were getting great value for money. It wasn't terrible, just... not good.

The venue has an upstairs area suitable for private events, with accommodating staff who are helpful and informative. Visitors have praised the food, drinks, and overall atmosphere at The Baum.
absolute gem of a place. has a really good vibe when you walk in and the food was fab. We had steak and ale pie and black pudding sausages and truffle and parmesan chips. they'd ran out of black pudding scotch eggs so we will be back to give those a go!

Went in for Saturday dinner. Fairly quiet , especially given the weather, good sized beer garden almost empty. Apparently this place has just changed ownership and got a new menu, staff were apologetic saying food might take a while. It didn’t really and we weren’t disappointed! Rag pudding was spot on. Excellent choice of beers. Free roadside parking after 6pm. Lovely old style pub, will definitely go back

Fabulous pub serving food and drinks within a traditional 40s 50s pub decor. Many intriguing cask ales to choose from and really good perk scratchings. Ab fab 😁

Great menu. Great beer. Great atmosphere. Just made a trip down to the Baum in the centre of Rochdale - lovely venue with a fantastic feel to it. Local brews on the cask line is always nice to see, I had the alchemist by Pictish brewery (a favourite of mine). The food was fantastic, I had the 3 for £20 deal on the small plates; the black pudding scotch egg, the ribs, and the smoked salmon and prawn. It was hard to choose my favourite of the three dishes however, I came to the conclusion that the black pudding scotch egg just tipped it. The ribs fell off the bone and were full of flavour and the smoked salmon and prawns I treated like lettuce tacos!

One of the best pubs in Rochdale. It has a homely feel, a quirky interior, a great selection of beers, and very friendly staff. I had a couple of beers, and then the cheese and onion pie with chips and beans. The food was decent and value for money, and it came out quickly despite it being a Saturday.

Heard many many good things about The Baum. Did not disappoint . Proper olde worlde decor (genuine not fake or plasticcy). Excellent range of beers. Traditional pub food served but done exceptionally well. (Wimped out and went for fish and chips). Was well done and presented. Maybe next time I'll be brave enough to go for the rag pudding and chips 😁😁. Will definitely return and highly recommend to everyone

New owners Dan and Nic are making a real go of #thebaum. Our server Ben was very helpful and polite when we called in for some grub last evening, whilst still sunny. We sat in the secret beer garden, which not many people are aware of, so maybe #the baum could advertise it more. It's very big with lots of tables and hidden from the main road, a proper sun trap. We both ordered the Katsu chicken curry, with rice, flatbread, spring onions, and chillis, wow that Katsu sauce has a kick to it, the chicken was very tender, also we had a portion of lightly salted fries, very moreish. The menu is changing today, Friday, but according to Ben, some of the dishes will still remain, plus some new ones, something for everyone, a great choice so you should enjoy your selection. Great selection of real ales, I had a rack of 3 to start with, and Diana had a J2O apple and mango with the food. Then she had a cheeky glass of Chardonnay, a large choice of wines available, I treated myself to a pint of Budvar from the Czech Republic, pure nectar. The majority of customers were also drinking this premium lager, a well-kept pint, whoever manages the cellar, well done. Dog friendly inside and outside, always a bonus, constructive comment, Dan and Nic, maybe consider asking customers to take their cutlery and condiments out with them after ordering, as we had to wait for both when our food arrived , but it wasn't an issue. We are looking forward to visiting again to try your new menu very soon. Please keep up the excellent work 🙏

The Molly House, located in Manchester's Gay Village, offers a unique experience for the LGBTQ+ community and allies. This cozy spot serves a variety of drinks including tea, cocktails, real ales, and Spanish/South American tapas. The establishment pays homage to the 18th and 19th century 'Molly houses,' which were some of the first gay-friendly meeting places.
The Molly House in Manchester’s Gay Village is a cosy, characterful bar and eatery that blends Spanish and South American tapas with a relaxed pub atmosphere. The food is consistently praised for its flavour and presentation, with dishes like octopus and ox cheek standing out. The drinks menu is extensive, featuring a wide selection of craft beers, wines, and spirits. The interior combines rustic charm with vintage decor, creating a welcoming environment. Service is friendly and attentive, contributing to a pleasant dining experience. While the location is slightly tucked away on Richmond Street, it's well worth seeking out for quality food and a warm atmosphere.

I discovered The Molly House one afternoon in Manchester — by pure chance — and what followed was a genuine revelation. As a former chef myself, well-versed in fine dining, it’s not easy to impress me — especially with simple ingredients. But here, simplicity was elevated to perfection. Every dish carried refinement and heart in equal measure. The food was spectacular: slow-cooked pork cheeks that melted into pure bliss (among the best I’ve ever had), tender roasted chicken infused with garlic, delicate shrimp pearls bursting with flavor, crisp breaded green olives, and soft white cabbage dressed with pesto and paprika — which unexpectedly became my absolute favorite, even ahead of the pork cheeks. It was my Ratatouille moment — that rare instant when taste and memory collide, when a meal becomes an experience. In a new city, I didn’t expect to find such warmth and authenticity, both on the plate and among the people. The gentleman behind the bar took his time to explain every beer with genuine enthusiasm and deep knowledge — a small gesture that made a big impression. My heartfelt thanks to the chef and the bartender for their care, passion, and dedication — you turned an ordinary afternoon into something truly special. The Molly House isn’t just a place to eat or drink — it’s where hospitality, craftsmanship, and soul meet. Thank You! Sincerely Constantin

Great bar and atmosphere. Service is a bit poor unless the lass who runs it is present but great for big trip beers. Some of the regulars are a bit snobby but in general it's a good vibe. "All gender" as the best v blues should be. Nice outside balcony upstairs. Not eaten here yet but food always smells delicious.

We have often met friends for drinks at the Molly House but hadn't ever sat down to eat their fantastic tapas menu. Croquetas (three kinds, the chunky prawn ones with seaweed mayo were our favourite, along with lovely slow-cooked pork cheeks in red wine, steak with chermoula, and some extraordinarily tasty chicken thighs in a garlic and sherry sauce. I could have eaten a bucket of those. Finished off with a lovely slice of Basque cheesecake, sherry-soaked raisins on the side. Extremely good food, great service, lovely place to sit and eat. And, with a bottle of Grenache, excellent value. 100% recommend.

Nestled within the historic Stalybridge Railway Station, the Stalybridge Buffet Bar is a charming nod to Victorian heritage. Established during the station's reconstruction in 1885, this bar has retained much of its original character despite modern refurbishments. With a delightful conservatory added later, it offers an inviting atmosphere that celebrates nostalgia and railway culture. Recognized with a Railway Heritage Award in 1997, it features a replica of the iconic Stalybridge Station Clock.
Madge making her first visit in 6 years. Been a few times, usually as part if the Manchester to Leeds Rail Ale Trail. On this dark November evening we were changing trains and I had twenty minutes to kill. Rushed in for a quick pint. Found a new brewery to tick off, Courier Brewing. A lovely bar to visit. Famous for the beer selection. Up to nine real ales. A CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular.

The Circus Tavern, located on Portland St., is renowned as Europe's smallest pub. Despite its size, the bar is well-stocked and exudes tons of charm. The friendly staff are more than happy to engage in conversation and even offer to take pictures behind the bar. With only two small snugs that can seat a handful of people, it fills up quickly, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy great beer on tap while engaging in lively conversations with both locals and tourists alike.
Stopped in for a pint and had a lovely time! We got lucky, it’s usually quite crowded but we came at the right time and got a table. Table service was great and quick. Lot of history at the pub. People were fantastic. Really added to the Manchester experience.

Incredible little boozer. It genuinely is tiny. We visted on a busy Saturday afternoon and the staff were doing a great job of not only serving people but managing where people could actually sit or stand. The two real ales they've got on tap were both on fantastic form, and we only paid £7 for 2 pints which is just incredible in 2025. Great united memorabilia on the walls too

I love this place. I stumbled upon it by chance. I was staying across the street at the townhouse. I saw a few pubs out the windows so I thought I should explore. I am so happy I stopped in. When you wall through the door you are greeted by a towering figure with a huge grin and really good energy. His name is Barry, hes the owner. The bar itself is about 3 feet in length and Barry asks you what youre having then tell you to go find a seat. There's 2 rooms with seats and TV, everyone gets to know each other there. Barry makes sure the energy stays positive, the pints are very reasonably priced, and you will have a good time. Im from San Diego, and will definitely be back! If youre anywhere near the area, make sure you stop in for a pint. You wont regret it.

We stopped by for a quick drink and sat in the spacious outdoor seating area. They have a ton of great beer options which is always the draw for a beer nerd like myself. It was very busy at the time we arrived as they had a quiz night in full swing. Service was pretty standard so no complaints.
Tyrell S — Google review
We stopped by the Crown & Kettle on a Sunday evening around 6:30pm and it was surprisingly calm and relaxed. What I liked most was that it felt more like sitting in a café than a busy pub - quiet enough to have a proper chat without shouting over the crowd. They've got an impressive range of craft beers on tap. I tried the Juice Forsyth, a fruity IPA at 5%, which was really enjoyable - refreshing without being too heavy. The Guinness, on the other hand, was just average. It wasn't bad, but definitely not at the level of the one you'd get at Mulligans. Overall, it's a cozy spot if you're looking for somewhere laid-back with a wide beer selection and a calmer atmosphere than your usual city pub.

Fountain House, located on Albert Square, is a beautifully renovated Victorian warehouse with an industrial-chic decor. The venue offers a vibrant bar and a British restaurant serving delectable roast dinners such as slow-roasted topside of beef, porchetta with crackling, succulent chicken with pig in blanket and stuffing, and vegan Wellington. In addition to classic pub fare, the establishment also features a two-for-12 cocktail offer during specific hours and provides board games for entertainment.
Last minute change of plans meant we booked at short-notice but the staff were welcoming, attentive and service was delivered with a smile. Alex C ran through any limitations to the menu and advised us of alternatives where necessary. The Sunday roast options were delicious and came with generous helpings of gravy. We opted for the Lamb and the meat fell apart beautifully. I was indecisive about dessert but Alex helped choose between the options and it all paired lovely together.

Great food with fantastic flavours. Panzanella had a rainbow medley of tomatoes with a really tasty burella. It was missing a bit more texture/bread, however very filling. Kimchi tempura was inventive and unusual. Again, really good flavours with coconut yoghurt a good compliment. Steaks were cooked to perfection (minor but would've preferred steak knives). Berry crumble was perfect with a crunchy flaked almond topping.

The atmosphere is really chilled compared to most pubs, which I love. It’s relaxed without losing that cosy pub feel. All in all, it’s just a lovely place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with good food, good energy and a selection of board games too.

A very unreliable venue. It is not acceptable to take bookings and then cancel with no reason - especially with such little notice. I cannot recommend a business that behaves in this way - especially as it has impacted on other businesses in the area (hotels, travel services, shopping etc). Every business has the right to refuse custom but not the moral right to take bookings and then cancel for no good reason. (What would consitute a good reason? Perhaps the prospect of criminal or unlawful behaviour. But they knew full well that the event they cancelled was not going to be like that). I'd advise people to avoid this venue. Customers should not have to prove their worthiness to purchase services, it is up to businesses to attract customers with an excellent product and good service. Margins can't be as tight as they claim if thay can afford to do this to over 100+ clients. Employees, watch out, you may be out of a job soon.

A really good proper pub with good real ale available - there are both inside and outside areas depending on the mood of the weather at that particular moment. I only popped in for a half but will certainly come back when I'm next in town. The Horse & Jockey is a family-friendly venue located in a conservation area called Chorlton Green. It offers outdoor seating and serves local cuisine while organizing numerous events. The pub has a beautiful view of Chorlton Green, although sometimes it can be obstructed by parked cars. The front of the pub features a medieval-style half-timbered facade, which was actually added relatively recently.
Thank you Shannon for such a lovely afternoon. Our food was delicious and Shannon was amazing. Very accommodating for a vegetarian with a nut allergy. Starter, roast, dessert and wine all 10/10. We will be back. Thanks again x

Absolutely delicious meal at the new Horse and Jockey tonight- fun twist on onion soup to start, superb fish and chips- not greasy at all just super tasty. My husband loves his steak and he said that his meal tonight rated up there as one of the best he has had! Attentive and lovely service from Naomi too. 100% recommend. Great to have a new spot to eat in Chorlton. We will return!

The new owners have really done the old pub proud. Beautifully furnished, great service and fantastic food. The food was outstanding. Definitely recommend the roast. Well done to staff and new owners you’ve definitely brought love and life back into the H&J. .

We had a lovely meal. The spatchcock was delicious! The sirloin was great, and the sticky toffee pudding was amazing Naomi was our waitress, she was great 👍

The food is incredible, it was hard to know what to pick as everything looked so good. The shepherds pie and ox cheek were 10/10. Our waiter Will was really helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere was great and the new refurbishment has been done brilliantly.

Beautiful Sunday Roast at the Horse and Jockey! Our host Chris was fab, 10 out of 10 for service 👏 I’ll definitely be back again. The sticky toffee pudding was divine!

Went in for dinner tonight and wasn't disappointed! From the moment we arrived the various staff couldn't have made us feel more welcome. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, a lovely gentle buzz around the busy pub. The place looks amazing, a lot of effort, thought and love have gone into the refurbishment, yet it looks so lived in, very comfortable. The food was outstanding, hubby had the steak and creamy mash, loved it. I gingerly ordered the Spanakopita, have to say it was the best I've had! The pickled walnuts were a fab addition. Look forward to a return visit, so lucky this gem is on my doorstep!

Four of us went to The Horse and Jockey for lunch and had such a great time. The place looks amazing after the refurb — really fresh and welcoming. The service was fabulous. Our waiter, Will, couldn’t have been nicer or more attentive. The food was fantastic too. I had the scallops to start and the ox cheek for my main. Both were delicious but the ox cheek was especially good. Rich and full of flavour. We’ll definitely be back to try more things on the menu :)

Nestled along the bustling Wellington Road, The Magnet Freehouse in Stockport is a gem for beer enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike. This charming pub embraces a back-to-basics ethos, offering an impressive selection of 13 cask ales from various microbreweries, including its own Watts Brewing. With an ever-evolving range of keg beers and international bottled options, every visit promises something new to savor.
Amazing real ale pub that’s quite unassuming from the outside considering the set up when you get in. Loads of real ales on including a couple of stouts that I really enjoyed. It’s big inside with several areas including a sheltered outside area however it was heaving and I had to sit with some locals. Everyone I spoke to were really friendly and all said how much they loved the pub. Really is no wonder as it’s fantastic and I can’t wait to go back. Most highly recommended 🍻👍

Probably the best craft/cask pub in Greater Manchester. Fantastic selection of beers with friendly (and very efficient)staff and a convivial atmosphere. Pool table and darts are popular too. You can also order pizzas 🍕 from the oven in the beer garden. Cheers 🍻

An oasis in Stockport like entering and leaving different worlds, lovely decor and a fantastic selection of beers something for everyone, had ‘Karen From Accounts” they had “Dirty stopout” last night also a “Disco Balls” if you’re in Stockport come here, nice staff friendly locals

Well, what a nice surprise. Went here on one Friday evening with another family member. For a really good traditional craft beer pub, I wouldn't expect it to be as busy. But it was packed with customers, young and old. Staff were super quick to serve, nice atmosphere. And the pizza place outside was definitely a reason to return. Great beer selection too BTW.

An absolute drinkers paradise with friendly, efficient service. It’s only Monday and we have 11 of the 12 cask ales pouring plus additional craft keg lines. A truly fantastic pub to visit and lament that there’s not more like it.

Superb proper pub - excellent setup with upstairs space and public / lounge bars. Great range of beers. Perfect.
Paul C — Google review
For me this pub is a real ale 5* heaven. Been about 5 times in the past. Thirteen of fourteen handpumps available on my Candlemass visit. I even found a new brewery..Flying Gang from Ponteland. I had an excellent pint of Spanish Gold £4.20. Casta not so happy as the rosé wine was Zinfandle which he dislikes intensely and thus settled on a cider, £4.10 a pint. The many rooms wrap round the central bar. There is also a covered courtyard/conservatory to rear. No TV'S thankfully but there is a games room with a pool table and two dart boards. Also books and boardgames available. Littlewoods pies and bar snacks. Not a food pub. Super visit for me. Casta not so happy.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
It’s a pub that sources many of its beers from micro-breweries (and is itself a micropub) — so don’t expect many (if any) of your staple drinks on draught… but if you go there with an open mind, then you won’t be disappointed

The Angel Pub Mcr is a specialist in beer from small independent breweries and features an upstairs restaurant with a log fire. It's located at the bottom of Rochdale Road and offers a great outdoor area for sunny days, along with excellent real ale and craft cider options. Despite its deceiving exterior, the pub has an intimate atmosphere with unplugged music and delicious food.
Beautiful food! Me and my girlfriend dropped in for a drink and a bite to eat and weren't dissapointed. The chef Dan came out and introduced himself and explained what exactly it was we were eating. (Highly recommend the ham hock bon bons!) Service was spot on and we'll definitely be returning.

Nice pub. Small but fun. Fantastic choice of session ales on tap. Very welcoming. Dog friendly. Worth a visit for a pint if you are about but not worth travelling to if you are the other side of town. Depends what you are after.

Went to The Angel last night for a friends birthday. We had the room upstairs we were a large party of fifteen. It was amazing. Really really good value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful and they kept checking in on us to see if we needed more drinks but also gave us space to enjoy ourselves. Definitely recommend. Photos don't do it justice at all. Best roast in Manchester!

I’ve been to The Angel before for drinks but didn’t know they did a roast! After some friends recommended it, I went today, and honestly, it’s easily one of the top three best roasts in Manchester! I went for the beef, and it was DELICIOUS. The cauli cheese is included with your roast (but you can order extra as a side too), which was a great surprise! Special mention to the blonde Canadian bartender who gave us such great service, the cherry on top! I left with a full belly and a big smile on my face :))

Went here for lunch as a mother and daughter treat. I was struck immediately by the wonderful atmosphere and decor of the place. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Our waiter, Kumar, was incredibly helpful and attentive, ensuring we had the best time. We ordered olives and mains: sea cream and trout followed by a shared dessert. The food was perfect and the summer signature cocktails went so well with everything. We couldn't find fault in our time here at all.

The ambience is amazing and very elegant. We attended there for my birthday celebration and the staff were very welcoming from the start to the end of our visit. Our waiter ,Nancy, was brilliant! From explaining the food , making recommendations and taking extremely good pictures of us. The service was excellent, quick and stress free. She made our evening and the meal more enjoyable. We got 2 starters and 2 mains. Unfortunately the food does not meet the standards of the atmosphere as it was quite bland. I would not advise you to order the chicken dishes as we found it quite bland ( no taste, no salt). However, their seafood was better and delicious. I got the prawns. Their terrace is perfect for a hot summer day or night meal, but if you don’t smoke or can’t stand the smell you might want to sit inside.

Dinner with the most fabulous views of Manchester. After our son completed the Manchester Half Marathon, we wanted to eat somewhere nice to celebrate. We booked 20 stories the evening before. The decor & service great. Nice selection of professionally made drinks. Food delicious, 3 out of the 4 of us had the beef Sunday roast, excellent value at £26. It came with a side of cauliflower cheese, clean plates all round. Would highly recommended even going for drinks as they have a fab outdoors area with blankets and heaters too.

We went to the blackout / candlelight evening on Sunday. Food was pretty good and it was a set menu. My husband enjoyed his more than myself. I’m vegan and the food was good 7.5/10 but I wasn’t full! I felt like going for a bag a chips afterwards!!! The main course was little more than a small potato and a medium sized beetroot! A shame because the place was lit beautifully and the views of Manchester were superb. Our server Daniel needs a huge mention and recognition as we both felt he was outstanding. He was lovely and very attentive without being overbearing. He had the knack of knowing when to chat and offer service and was personable and respectful and polite. Had a great manner and was a credit to the restaurant. We would definitely return but would hope for a better menu. After all it was £100 per person and to leave unsatisfied was a disappointment

We had a lovely dinner here the other night to celebrate our anniversary and our server was the wonderful Nancy who despite having a full section of tables throughout our entire meal was so attentive and professional. She made us feel so welcome and helped make our celebration so special. We loved our dinner and will return for other special occasions because of the attention to detail Nancy had and how all of her reccomendations hit the mark.

Always wanted to go here but never got around to it and we’ve now been twice in the last two weeks. We only went in for a drink, once in the day and once at night. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The views you get of Manchester were breathtaking and I’d recommend going both in the day time and at night. I had an IPA which was really nice and not too overpriced considering the venue and experience you get.

Hare & Hounds Inn is a charming pub located atop Werneth Low in Greater Manchester, offering stunning views of the area. The cozy spot features low ceilings and exposed beams, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for visitors to enjoy traditional British dishes such as gourmet pies, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, and rosemary and garlic baked Camembert. Families can delight in a hearty Sunday roast or choose from a dedicated kids' menu that includes options like chicken burgers.
So I have always wanted to eat at the Hare and Hounds on Werneth Low after reading the amazing reviews the beautiful setting and the most amazing views for Miles around. So my Wife had been doing the Night shift in Hyde and when I picked her up I asked if she fancied a Sunday Lunch and she said Yes so off to The Hare and Hounds we Went and we received a lovely warm welcome and we didn't book(I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment) and luckily Enough they had space for us and seated us in the restaurant. To drink my Wife ordered a glass of Cabernet Sauvigion(Red wine)🍷 and I asked if they had IPA/Craft lagers and they had one called Level head so I ordered a pint, Short time later the waitress arrived with our drinks and a complimentary warm homemade bread 🍞 with Garlic and herbs butter 🧈. To start we ordered the Sharing Cheese 🧀 platter which was oven baked Camenbert cheese with Rosemary and Garlic which came with a selection of rustic breads served with Garlic and herb butter, Piccalilli and Branston pickle, The portion was huge and the Cheese was amazing rich and oozing the breads and butter, Piccalilli and Pickle really complimented the Cheese. For mains we both ordered for the 7 hour slow cooked Beef rib which was served with carrots 🥕, Parsnips, Cabbage, Side of gravy and a huge home made Yorkshire pudding and we ordered a side order of Red cabbage and Cauliflower Cheese, The food was very presented and tasted absolutely delicious, The Beef literally fell apart and was tasty and tasted amazing and the beef was very well complimented by the seasonal vegetables and side orders, We cleaned our plates and couldn't eat another thing so settled our bill and headed into the bar area for a drink and look out at the stunning views. Our waiter was called Mike and he was fantastic polite, friendly and very attentive and big shout to the Chef 👨‍🍳 Steve who's food was exquisite. Honestly we knew the Hare and Hounds was going to be good but wow the setting, the service, the food, the drink were all 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ The bar and restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks on pictures 📸,

A lovely setting to have a pub with a fabulous view too! Super nice to see the fire roaring too with comfy seats nearby so big points for that Sadly. the availability of food and drink isn’t great. We went in at 11am, after having one Latte with Oat Milk, I was the told they have no oat milk left and equally no non-dairy substitutes at all (Soya milk etc). This sadly meant I couldn’t have another hot drink. The menu offering for anything plant based was lacklustre to say the least. I opted for chips - was told they’d have to go in the oven to be vegan - and they were droopy and crappy chips - not worth the £7.50 for the small bowl of soggy chips! What a shame!

Always have friendly staff and good atmosphere and of course amazing views!! Great to have a nice long walk nearby and finish up here for a quick pint or even meet and catch up with friends/family over some tasty food. Only issue i personally have is there isn't many dairy free options but what is available is tasty. Swe you after our next weekly walk.

Lovely meal of hand battered cod and beautiful golden chips with tartar sauce and mushy peas. Service spot on friendly efficient and knowledge about their role and the food and drinks. But to top it all a vista to cherish through the window with a bonus of aircrafte descending to Manchester Airport.well worth the drive from the city.

Great pubs with great views. It’s an old building, so many low beams inside. If you’re over 5’ 9 or so- you’re likely to need to duck Atleast once. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating - as most people come for the views. Whilst it’s not really advertised too much- you can order through the Greene King app. It can get V busy on certain days, like Sunday. So may be best to pre book. Otherwise, expect wait times. One of few pubs that hasn’t sold their car park and does not require any kind of adding your reg to an in bar iPad. So that’s good.

Mr. Thomas's Chop House, also known as Mrs. Sarah's Chop House, is a charming restaurant and bar located in a historic building dating back to the 1860s. Originally focused on prime steak, it now offers a full menu of traditional British cuisine while still maintaining its roots with sumptuous beef options like sirloin and ribeye. The venue is situated in the heart of Manchester, making it perfect for pre-theater drinks or post-shopping pints.
This is a very old establishment and has plenty of history. Very nice to come and visit if you're ever in Manchester. The walls are all green. Tiled inside. Looks very nice. If you're into historic buildings, staff are very pleasant and polite, the price for the two lagers was a pints and half and cost around £10 which is standard for pups in and around Manchester

The place was amazing and the beers we had were really delicious. The gentleman who helped us was very kind and recommended some great beers. Since we’re new to the city, we didn’t know much, but he made our experience wonderful. We had such a great time. Definitely a must-visit!

Mr Thomas’s Chop House is a charming slice of old-Manchester — with its Victorian tiles, narrow layout, and historic atmosphere, it feels like stepping into the past. The menu sticks to classic British fare — think hearty dishes like corned beef hash, steak & kidney pudding, and traditional roasts. Many diners praise the corned beef hash in particular. Service reviews are mixed: polite and attentive at times, though some guests note slow food delivery and occasional crowding delays.
Suba F — Google review
The instant my boots clacked across the tiled floor of Mr Thomas’s Chop House, I could feel the history. Ancient gravy spirits swirled through the air, whispering secrets of Sunday lunches past. I was ready, ready to be transported into a poultry paradise. And then… it happened. The Table. Of. Diners. A coven of noise warlocks, shrieking with such ferocity I thought the chandeliers might shatter into a thousand gravy boats. They didn’t converse, they broadcast, each story launched at full stadium volume as though auditioning for a West End musical called Obnoxious: The Reckoning. Every guffaw ricocheted through my skull. My Yorkshire pudding quivered in terror. I tried to focus. The roast chicken descended before me and my esteemed associate, Mr Matthews, a bird so golden it must have been blessed by Apollo himself. Its gravy pooled like liquid time. Yet every bite was polluted by sonic warfare from the next table. Imagine trying to commune with poultry divinity while being aurally waterboarded by a gang of self anointed raconteurs. Verdict: A glorious roast sabotaged by noise demons. Like eating with a pack of hyenas.

I was with a large group. Ordered a few days before arriving. We were given a menu with no prices on, but they had the menu online, so checked the prices on their website. We ate and then were given the prices, mine was £5 more than the online price. So questioned why it was more. The lady said oh the prices went up today, I said just today conveniently? She said yes unfortunately. But you still have the menu I saw online, on now. And that was the price I assumed we would be paying. Nobody said the prices were going to go up!! And if they were going up today! They should’ve let us know, don’t you think? They went up today because there was a conservative conference on! Also have a look at my photo, does that meal justify £34?? I had also ordered the side of green veg, but that didn’t come till after I had nearly finished my meal. And the green veg was £5 on top of the £34! So £39 for my meal. A pub meal! It tasted nice, but not worth the price. This is not a restaurant, it’s a pub meal. I thought the service was slow, we were booked in for 6pm and I didn’t get any food until 7.20. And then my veg came 10 mins later! £39 is totally over inflated for the price of my meal, because the conservative conference was in town! I ordered the Barnsley Chop. My friend had ordered the house pie, but was expecting at least some meat. The pie was mashed potatoes and cheese, no onion. She was hoping for at least chicken or steak. And she was charged £21 for a cheese and potato pie! I have to say I won’t be recommending Mr Thomas’s Chop House to anyone I’m afraid. I wasn’t impressed with the level of service or the lack of communication about the price of the menu. We should have been given the prices before we ate, instead they made it up to their liking. That’s really not the way to do business. We weren’t part of any political meeting, we were there on business, but nothing to do with what was happening in Manchester this week. I feel that the prices were inflated because of this, which was unfair. UPDATE We were not a party of 30, there was only about 20 of us, there was another group of people with a separate booking who were at our conference. The menu was exactly the same, I fail to see what you changed other than sticking £5 increase on everything! A bit of a steep increase I think, the food certainly does not justify the price! Frozen chips, not triple cooked. They looked and tasted just like McCain’s steak chips. It’s only a pub in Manchester, not a fancy restaurant. With regards to the pie, I’m 100% sure, that people expect a meat pie from a chop house, not cheese and mash. It’s just beige food carb overload. I would listen to your customers and change that pie. I was disappointed in the Mr Thomas’s Chop House and if I was the owner I’d definitely listen to your customer feedback and change the price, the service and the menu, and make it a better experience.

The Old Wellington is a historic half-timbered pub located in the heart of Manchester. Dating back to 1552, it holds the title of the city's oldest pub and is steeped in history. Originally situated on Market Square, it was relocated to Shambles Square as part of a redevelopment project in 1999. The pub offers a traditional atmosphere, real ales, and hearty pub food.
First time dining at an old English Pub and I enjoyed both the vibe and the food. Very good portions. The steak and ale pie had a brief scent of beer in the stuffing which gave a special twist than a regular pie. Crispy crust. Smooth and buttery potato mash.

We had dinner at The Old Wellington on two evenings because the food was so good and the atmosphere so cozy. The first floor has a great, warm ambiance. The staff are friendly. The food was delicious, especially the fish and chips, the vegetable pie, and the sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful experience here at the Old Wellington! We had a reservation for two at 7pm on a surprisingly busy Wednesday and were seated in the second floor dining area. There was one waiter working essentially the entire floor and did an awesome job considering that the establishment was evidently understaffed for how many people they were serving. While we did have to wait for our drinks, appetizers, and entrees, everything was delicious and worth the wait. The Pornstar Martini was delectable and I the beef ale pie was comforting and fulfilling! Would recommend for anyone looking for a traditional but curated English meal in Manchester!

Not my first time eating here but it has been quite a while, so I was a bit disappointed with the pies tbh. We had a steak pie and the chicken and mushroom with chips instead of mash. Just to look at it was disappointing, chunky dry chips obviously from the freezer, with a roasted carrot on top (what is that about? Why not some more vegetables, some nice greens?) The steak pie was mainly gravy, the gravy was watery. It seemed half assed. I don’t think we’ll be ordering the pies here again now.

The Oast House in Manchester is a rustic-style pub located in the cosmopolitan area of Spinningfields. It offers a variety of international food options, including deli boards, and provides ale and beer tasting experiences. Additionally, the venue hosts interactive reindeer competitions and lighting displays during the Christmas season to bring festive cheer to its courtyard area. Whether it's breakfast, brunch, or classic French dishes with a contemporary twist, The Oast House has something to suit every mood throughout the day.
The best place in Manchester for me to go out late. If the weather is nice and sunny, it is very enjoyable. There is live music. Entry is free. In the winter, it is very special and warm. I always like to go there, summer and winter.

Didn’t have food. Amazing atmosphere, we sat outside listening to the live music. Very busy so ordered table service on the QR code this was great speedy delivery of drinks . Fantastic vibe!!!

If the venue is nice and in the middle of Manchester, the food is not at the same level .. came for a black tie event and find it very disapointing to end up with a chicken burger made of chicken.. and bread.. with some weird sauces. Would recommend for a drink but nit for a meal.

This was my favorite place in Manchester to chill and just have some drinks while the band play oasis covers. I enjoy the afternoon very much, the atmosphere, weather, everything was just perfect. Great place.

Went with a friend the other week and i would recommend the food as it was amazing. However the atmosphere was completely ruined as we overheard a server be dug into by someone i am guessing was management. The way that manager talked to that young man was awful and even after that he came to our table and gave the best service i have received in the city centre for a while. I can appreciate tough love but for that poor server to be dug into so loudly is just awful. Do better!!

A lovely bar in the centre of Spinningfields. A good selection of beers and wines. Lots of seating and some small fires out doors to take the chill of an autumnal evening. Prices reasonable for ales. Haven't eaten here.

Nestled in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales near Bolton Abbey, The Red Lion is a charming village pub offering cozy guestrooms, complimentary WiFi, and hearty full English breakfast. The ancient inn exudes authentic character with its mullioned windows, stone flags, and thick walls. The taproom's long bar serves as a welcoming gathering spot for weary hikers and hungry guests.
We received a warm welcome from the team at The Red Lion. We were booked in for the Wine, Dine and Duvet at £120 which was incredible value as it also included breakfast! Our room was spotless, very nicely presented and very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Overall the pub interior, the outside area and the dining room were very clean and very well presented decor. The dales are on the doorstep and we were given a map of local walks which was really helpful. A fantastic place to stay, would highly recommended!

What a find! The Red Lion came up when googled places to stay nearby to bury for myself and best mate to stay for his birthday. The usual travelodge etc came up but I liked the idea of a pub outside of the town. It had great reviews already so I booked it. The hosts and team are very very welcoming and the bar area is lovely with comfy armchairs etc and fire. The bar most importantly is stacked with great choice and for me I loved the fact it had great cask ales and small batch beers not just your usual beers. Room was clean and tidy with traditional decor. Plenty of tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast was outstanding and plenty of it. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Thank you to the team for looking after us.

Went on a Saturday evening for a birthday, everything was superb! Staff were lovely and the service was great. Two of us had the steak and ale pie, that was amazing, sirloin steak...again perfect and one fish platter...spot on. We were served by Claire and were well looked after. Definitely recommend it!

Food..the Sunday dinner is the best I've ever had from a pub! You get a great variety of colourful veg and the 3 meats are lovely and well cooked..bargain really the plate is massive.. I have had 2 Sunday dinners at other locations when I've been on a day out the last few weeks, they don't come close! I recommend the Red Lion all the time, looking forward to this Sundays dinner 🍽 👌😊 and thanks to the chefs for being talented 😀

We stayed here as a friend had recommended it and it was an add on to the 3 days we had spent in Manchester. It was originally a pub that we used to visit when we lived in Bolton. I cannot fault the hotel for food and drink, although understandable I was surprised that last orders was 10.00, perhaps different at weekends 🤔. The bedroom whilst clean and had everything you needed I felt that I felt it was a little tired. Our bed was comfortable but the mattress creaked dreadfully when sitting on it to get in and out of it. Having said all this the overall experience at the hotel was so good I have booked here again in October instead of the Holiday Inn, Bolton that I normally stay at when come to visit family

The White Lion is a traditional pub located in the heart of the community, offering real ales, a garden, and various events. Situated on the border between Greater Manchester and West Lancashire, this pub has been revitalized by landlords Matt and Ellie Furzeman since 2007. The menu caters to vegans, vegetarians, carnivores, and gluten-free diners with dishes like pan-fried duck breast on Asian cashew nut salad and lamb and mint suet pudding.
Great meal for 4 here today. Hadn't booked and the pub was busy at 1pm on a Saturday. Never the less helpful staff found us a suitable table as we were with our dog. Lovely service. Great food. Nice menu. Could not fault. Will be back for sure ☺️

Fantastic find!! Food was delicious and served really quickly considering how busy it was!! Great attentive staff (plenty of them!!) Scarlett and Mia were fantastic at the outside station and never stopped clearing and cleaning as soon as tables were vacated!! Atmosphere was great and even locals chatted to me, even though I'd never been here before!! I'll be coming again next time I'm in the area!!! Worth a visit for sure!!!

Usual White Lion experience of very pleasant surroundings and great service from the really lovely staff. However, I was slightly disappointed with my turkey dinner this time around. Turkey itself was very well cooked, tasty and succulent with a good portion. However: 1: The mashed potato was a bit bland. 2: The roast spuds were luke warm and the skins quite tough and rubbery (as though they had not be freshly cooked and had been under a heat lamp for a bit too long, and 3: There was not enough gravy which left the meal very dry, especially when the yorkshire pudding was massive. You really do need a lot of gravy with such a big pudding. Thanks

Really great venue. Met up with a friend and her lovely doggy. Enjoyed a nice drink and meal sat outside under the canopy. Upper friendly staff, nothing was too much. Friend ordered from the vegan menu and was really happy with her choice and I ordered the fajitas. Will be back soon a our new meeting place.

Lovely place with a very good and varied menu. Fantastic outdoor seating area and plenty of room inside too. Dogs are welcome in some areas but not all, so book if you are bringing a dog with you. They are well looked after with water too. There is a good car park to the rear if you are driving. Staff are always very polite and helpful. Have never been disappointed when I have visited. Lots of vegetarian choices for me on offer.

Great food, value and service at the recently refurbished White Lion. Several nights are themed including quiz and poker nights. On Saturday live music is sometimes also played to supplement the great beer and food. The pub is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner always to a high standard. For lunch and dinner booking a table is advised because of the pub's popularity. There is a main menu and a light bites menu and food on the latter menu is plentiful at lunchtime. In addition to the inside seating, there are outside booths which are pleasant, especially in good weather. April 2025 - recently redecorated in November 24 the food and service is still very good.

Visited yesterday afternoon for ‘wing stock’ unlimited wings, upon being seated we were informed the flavour of the day was not available, instant disappointment. Very unfortunate that you would advertise an event with a different flavour of wings every day of the week and then not have that flavour available. The first round of wings we ordered were buffalo wings, nice flavour but drowned in sauce. The lemon and garlic wings did not taste of lemon but once again drown in butter and not very appealing. After about an hour we then got told the tikka sauce for the flavour of the day was being made and would be available in 10 minutes, ready for our next round of wings, so we ordered. 30 minutes later still no wings, asked a member of staff to cancel our order as we had to leave and we had been waiting an extremely long time. After a visit to the kitchen she came back to tell us she’s sorry we had to wait there was a problem in the kitchen… if there was a problem why was we not informed? Why would we be left sat there with no food? waiting for an order that would not be arriving. Honestly overall a very disappointing visit, came for unlimited wings, left still hungry.

Nestled in the charming town of Lymm, The Church Green is a delightful restaurant that showcases the culinary talents of award-winning chef Aiden Byrne. This innovative eatery offers a unique tasting menu featuring many ingredients sourced from their own garden, ensuring freshness and quality in every dish. One of its standout features is the Pavilion—a beautifully designed outdoor dining area with glass sides and heaters, allowing guests to enjoy their meals year-round regardless of the weather.
Nicely taken over from the old church green owners. Food was lovely, I would recommend the parmesan truffle fries they were very yummy. Inside was lovely and warm on a winters evening. Atmosphere when we visited was quite empty to begin with then turned busy and noisy as a large group arrived. Be prepared for a lot of green inside, all the walls even the radiators were green. Staff seemed friendly but was served by one member of staff most of the evening. Overall experience was nice so I rate a 5 star

Absolutely stunning. Relaxed atmosphere and surroundings with seriously good food. We were both totally blown away with the standard - this could stand proud among Michelin star restaurants. Amazing mix on the menu but even the most ‘standard’ of dishes are done with a twist. Simply cannot wait to go back, I actually had one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Amazing

Went on a sunny Friday evening for the first time in a few years. This used to be a decent gastropub and one of the first in the area for top notch pub grub. No longer, and perhaps I should have done some research beforehand. The place has gone distinctly average. The good was OK, just and the atmosphere was quiet with a half empty dining area. The service was attentive which was a redeeming feature. Not what I remembered so probably won’t be going back. Too many places in the neighbouring area are far better.

We visited on my birthday so it was a special occasion and the Church Green didn't disappoint. Delicious food, and friendly relaxed atmosphere. Would love to visit again in the summer and try the pizzas whilst sat outside in the beautiful garden. We had a starter, Sunday lunch and desserts and truly feel that we had gourmet meals. I had Smoked Oxtail to start, Roast belly pork for main and Lemon Tart for dessert. I didn't get pictures of my husband's starter or main but his dessert was Cherry Bakewell. Definitely recommended by both of us.

Friendly staff and great food in absolutely wonderful setting. Booked to sit outside. Ample amount of heating available to keep you warm if it gets cold in the evening. Menu has got a good variety of starters and mains. Mains portions are really good value for money and a small recommendation as said on the menu do keep some space for trying out the delicious deserts. Drinks are good quantity and very well done. Would definitely visit again to try more….

Nestled in the heart of Shambles Square, Sinclairs Oyster Bar is a quintessential Manchester tavern that exudes charm and history. With its rustic wooden beams and a delightful cash-only policy, this iconic venue has been serving patrons since the 1700s. The expansive beer garden is a local favorite, especially on sunny days when it fills up with lively crowds enjoying affordable lagers and classic pub fare.
This has to be one of the most atmospheric and visually welcoming pubs I know. Lovely place with creaking floorboards, nooks and crannies, a mixed crowd. They operate a 'no mobile use' policy, hence the exterior photos only. I visited on Friday night and the vibe in there was just about perfect. Great ales to; Sam Smiths Best at £2.69 a pint. I didn't try the food so can't rate. A real gem of a place.

Jackson's Boat is a charming pub located near the River Mersey and the Trans Pennine Trail. It offers easy access by car or tram, with parking available near the metrolink stop. The pub is dog-friendly and even provides special treats for furry companions. Visitors can enjoy walks along the river and have the option to hire bikes from The Bike Barn next door. Additionally, in warmer months, Sale Water Park nearby offers various water sports activities.
We have been coming here on and off over many years. We love the rustic and homely feel of the place. The food is always amazing and the views are on par. This is a dog friendly pub which we also love, it's nice to see a venue that caters for dog owners because with the great walking trail that surrounds the pub it's easy to be able to nip in and have a drink without the worry of having your pet with you.

What can I say but how disappointed we are. This pub used to have decent, good fresh pub grub. Came in yesterday lunch. Ordered chilli con carne (advertised on menu as comes with rice, sour cream and tortilla chips.) Food came out with just rice. When I questioned the waitress she argued with me about it not stating that until I showed her the menu... the food came out Stone cold in the middle as it had been badly microwaved. So asked for it to be hot.. it came back out bubbling after being extremely microwaved. And again no tortillas, had to go hunt for my own cutlery after the waitress forgot twice.. asked again about the sour cream and tortillas. She begrudgingly went to find them. Tried the tastless, super microwaved chilli. And the rice. The rice was rock solid like inedible. Waitress come back with sour cream etc. Pointed out it was inedible and rice hard and I'd like it to be taken back and refunded. Which she did. Highly unorganised a d very poor service. I think they need a little more training on product, cleanliness and people skills.. the place wasn't even busy maybe ten tables maximum. If I could give zero stars I would

Nice on a nice day with loads of outdoor seating and dog friendly. Long time since I had food in there , average prices on beer. The huge advantage is being able to enjoy a walk round the lake and up the river , even over to Chorlton. I don't bother with the parking system and just park at the lake and have a walk. Inside , maybe a little old and tired but reasonable. It's great strength is that it is in a nice setting, and if you are out for a walk in that area there is no other rival pub in the vicinity.

What has happened to this once great establishment. Last orders at 730 rushed out by 8... The wall advertises food served till 730 at 5 was told the kitchens shut.... The place was quiet which doesnt suprise me. It honestly has nosed dived these past few yrs to a shell of its former self. Charges for the carpark if not using the pub has to be the main revenue as there litterally isnt anyone inside getting free parking... Shame .... Lots of nice memories here...

This is a cool idea, they’ve put lots of nice food places in one big area Good vibes 😎 Nice food 🥘 Plenty of selection for various drinks too 🍺🍹 There’s usually live music on too so what more could you want? 😎💚

I have been a regular at Seconds Carvery since they opened up again this year, it is under new management and they came out with a bang! There is a live DJ playing at the venue every Sunday, the atmosphere is great and very lively but you can still talk easily. The roast beef is served rare/medium rare, or you can ask for it to be cooked for longer to your preference. The Bacon loin is delicious, very juicy and the honey mustard glaze is delightful. The half roast chicken is awesome, also very juicy and the meat comes from the bones very easily. Everything was cooked to perfection! The veggie offerings have also been great, I've so far, only tried the mushroom Wellington and a curry potato pie (for science) but both were super tasty. The trimmings are all great, very fresh and great quality - the yorkshire puddings are immense and the gravy is super tasty. My favourite part is the red cabbage, it has an almost winter spiced taste and it's gorgeous! To top it off, the trimmings are unlimited! Making it great value for money. Overall, a great experience and a lovely carvery. Great to have a good carvery in the city centre!

Visited a couple of weeks ago and managed to get a booking at Ornella's. We wanted to try it for months but we can hardly find last minute tables at the one in Denton. We were seated without delays, the staff were friendly and accommodating. However, the food did not live up to the expectations. We got the fried the fried ravioli as a starter and main the rigatoni alla vodka and the oven baked shells. The starter was too oily and could not have more than a couple. The rigatoni alla vodka was not edible, the amount of alcohol was too much and the dish was bitter. Moreover, the menu was not the same as the one in Denton but more like a short version of it. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy it and was not worth our money. Freight Island was able to deliver as usual. We spent a bit of time outdoors after our meal.

Nestled in the heart of Manchester, The Bay Horse Tavern is a delightful gastropub that perfectly blends hearty comfort food with lighter fare. This charming venue boasts a menu filled with robust dishes, including succulent rotisserie meats and mouthwatering roasts served with rich gravy.
The best pub in the NQ, great layout, atmosphere and outside area that’s perfect for all occasions. We’ve been here a few times for bottomless brunch and it’s been faultless, great value, great food and even better service. They also have a good happy hour on cocktails and pints. Recently we went specifically for food, trying out their new spring menu. The food was fantastic, classic British menu done to perfection and it’s an absolute bargain in comparison to other pubs of a similar calibre in Manchester. The fish and chips was huge and absolutely delicious, the batter was so different to any other fish and chips I’ve had and it was thoroughly enjoyable. The steak pie was full of meat and incredibly fresh and rich. It really superseded our expectations. Given the quality of the food and the portions I’d say they could charge more but they keep it at great value. The service was also fantastic considering it was busy, our server Katie S was excellent, attentive and even wished my mum a happy birthday which I’d forgotten I put on the booking notes. Thanks for a great afternoon, we’ll be back to try the rest of the menu. It’s a must visit for anyone in Manchester.

Wanted to try a pub lunch in Manchester for once and ultimately ended up deciding on this place and I wasn’t disappointed. Everything is dead fresh and you can really taste that, the pie’s pastry was the best thing about it, the meat was delicious but average and the gravy didn’t have much flavour for me even though it repeated on me quite a lot. The burger was like a fist, I couldn’t believe how big it was. The cheese however didn’t have much flavour and the bacon whilst I understand the style of it, it’s way too thick and crispy for my liking. The beef was the best part about it actually which is the main part. The sides of the mash and chips, the mash whilst not outstanding, I loved the way it’s presented like London old school pie mash. But wow the chips, I’d go here just to eat the chips alone. The crispyness, the flavour, just everything about them was so good. My table didn’t have a menu and with there being no waiters, it’s a bit strange in 2025 to go up to the bar and ask for your food etc. Can’t beat a £5 double gin and lemonade either, wow what a price.

Personally this was a little find just when it was needed. Got a little alcove of a seating area with my company and ordered food and drinks. I think the photos say it all however if they don't appeal then I suggest you go in and try out their great menu. I haven't recommended any of the dishes as this is a personal choice.

Fantastic roast dinner. Large portion size, great flavours. Good value for money. I didn’t book, walked in solo on a Sunday. Seated on the end of a high table. Steady flow throughout the time I was there, staff were very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend when in Manchester.

★☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Misleading Promotion I rarely leave negative reviews unless I feel compelled to, but my experience at the Bay Horse Tavern was frustrating from start to finish. Upon arrival, I was greeted by one helpful staff member who made a good effort to find us a table while I waited for the rest of my group. Unfortunately, that was the only positive part of the visit. While waiting, I went to the bar to grab a quick drink. Despite acknowledging me and being fully aware that I’d been waiting for around 10 minutes, one of the bartenders (male) continuously served people who arrived after me. His attitude was dismissive, slow, and generally rude. He even refused to apply a staff discount for another customer simply because he couldn’t be bothered to cancel and re-enter an item—something that seemed entirely within his capability to do. When my party arrived, we were seated quickly, thanks again to the one helpful host. But things went downhill again from there. When I returned to the bar to order food, we told the bartender we were seated by the window, he snapped back, "That doesn’t help me," in a very rude tone—despite the table being only a couple of meters away. Once we gave him the table number, he seemed irritated. The whole interaction felt unnecessarily hostile and impatient. After ordering the fish and chips–which were promoted on some social media accounts as a full-sized portion available for £2.50 when purchased with any drink– we sat down and eagerly awaited our food. When it arrived, the portion was laughably small—nowhere near what had been promoted, I was genuinely shocked, even when comparing what had been given to others, mine was terribly small (SEE IMAGE 3). I politely raised this with the waiter, only to be met with a shrug and a dismissive, "To be honest, mate, I don’t know. I just started my shift five minutes ago." This was clearly untrue, as I had seen him serving outside at least 20 minutes earlier. It might have been better to simply offer the 50% off Fish & Chips all day, as I would have just done this. Waiting and bar staff should have also made this explicitly clear, but aside from the food, the whole handling wasn’t great at all. All in all, the service was at times rude, lazy, and unprofessional. Staff didn’t seem interested in helping or resolving even basic queries. The food I felt was not clearly advertised/promoted and poorly handled when questioned. It’s a real shame, as I have been coming to this venue on and off for years —but based on this experience, I don't think I will be returning.

Excellent place to get a meal and a pint. The chips are out of this world, and the steak and ale pie exceeded my expectations. The interior is lovely, and the service was great. Wonderful place to go for lunch in the Northern Quarter.

Visitors can enjoy traditional dishes including roasts while soaking in the lively ambiance. With its great selection of beers and friendly staff, this old-style yet modern pub has garnered popularity in the area.
I really liked this pub. Went on a Friday night, the place was buzzing. Took the dog in with us and he loved the attention. Good selection of drinks. Had some food here and that was nice too. Had the trio of chip and then some sharing platters. Staff were all nice and friendly. A live band we’re starting just as we left, but unfortunately didn’t see them. Highly recommended.

This is an okay place to stop and try some foods you have never eaten before. The ambiance is good and cozy to sit around with your friends and watch some football matches. But we had to take orders ourselves, and service was utterly absurd. P.S. The prices are okay overall.

Popped in on a Wednesday afternoon for a Guinness..less said about that the better. Heard the pub had been done up recently, some nice artwork on the walks but all the lovely upholstered seats have been replaced by pretty uncomfortable hard backed furniture...service was very friendly. Note to Greene King..maybe some of the refurbishment budget for the gents toilet...they are grim and haven't changed in nearly 30 years!

Nice little spot, it's a chain but did a surprisingly good pint of Guinness, small outdoor seating area, cosy interior and staff were spot on. Couldn't fault it. Didn't get to try the food.

What an incredible find this was. Had some time to spare before getting a train from Oxford Road so thought we would spend it in here having a quick pint and ended up stopping for 3. Very welcoming towards us (I had 4 Under 18s in the group) but not a problem for them to be in the pub. The pub is well presented with lovely interior and a little on the quirky side I thought whilst retaining a proper traditional feel. Service was quick and efficient. Customers all friendly. So we returned on the way home for another stop off, much busier this time as it was after 6pm but still no issues getting served quickly and finding seats. Door Staff had appeared by this point and again they were very friendly, full of conversation and made us feel welcome and comfortable in entering the pub. Will definitely be making this our go to when in the area!

Stayed here for a couple of nights on a business trip. The service was impeccable. The hotel was immaculate and the room was exquisite, comfortable and had everything I needed. I paid for a package which included breakfast, and it was delicious.. I was greeted by the restaurant manager in the morning who made me feel very welcome and made sure that I was well looked after. Great customer service from all the staff in the restaurant. However the star of the trip was a young man called Josh (hotel porter). He did everything to make my stay as comfortable as possible. He encapsulated everything good customer service should, nothing was too much trouble for him extremely professional and passionate about his role. Thank you!

Really enjoyed lunch. Not been here in some years but it was great. The layout is different and open. The menu was very good and surprisingly cheap compared with visits around the area. I had Katsu chicken which was excellent but leave space for desert! Again very reasonably priced and good size. Steak pie warning it is large you might struggle with desert. 🤭

Just had lunch there. Looks great from the road. I was asked for my table number when ordering food , the table that I really wanted didn't have a number despite a really good look 🙈. So I picked another table that had a number. The beef and ale pie was excellent, chips and broccoli 🥦 good. The extra gravy was a bit thin , just needs reducing. Unfortunately it was brought to the table with a chip on the edge of the plate 😞 Brownie with ice cream was good . I ate outside, which to be honest needed a good clean and sweep, loads of rubbish on the floor, which really should be done before customers arrive 😕

A selection of beers what you come to expect in a Greene King pub - best selling ales but rarely anything leftfield. Huge car park to the rear.

The staff is committed to providing professional and friendly service to both new and returning customers.
Love it!!!!! Warm, friendly and welcoming - nothing is too much trouble. The Sunday roast is simply the best around and the rest of the menu doesn't disappoint either. Turned up an hour early for our booking, but were welcomed like old friends. Would rate higher if I could! ❤️🌟

Fabulous!! Absolutely love it here. From the moment you walk in you are made to feel so welcome, the staff are great (Alex is exceptional) and the food is top notch. Perfect for any occasion. Update 03/11/2024 - amazing as ever, can't fault it. I was devastated to leave a little mash and roast potato as it was so good, maybe shouldn't have had that extra pint before the food came, but that was exceptional too! 🍺 Whoever decided that apricot works on top of a shepherd's pie deserves a Michelin star 🌟 Absolutely unreal 👏 and the rest of the food was great too 👌❤️

We have been to the Grapes for the last two and a half years under three different landlords/ladies. Yesterday was the second time we've eaten here ever and both times under the latest management. It was really good both times. We've had the steak and ale pie, the mixed grill, the fish and chips, sea bass and lamb chops. Really nice. Good service, good bar service, hot food. We wil continue to visit. Love the garden too even in winter.

We visited here yesterday evening for a meal with some friends and understand that the place changed hands only 1 week ago. I think that the new owners are still finding their feet but it looks promising and we will go back. For example they don't have a wine list yet but the selection of red wine is good and the staff were very helpful and let us look at the bottles so we could select. Food was lovely and the service was good. The place was not very busy which is a shame but hopefully it will get busier if they continue to serve good food and friendly service.

Don't normally do reviews, but not a big fan of poor behaviour. Waitress made a mistake with the order, but the chef/manager left her to carry the can. Not sure why he didn't help her out, because the steak he then made for my daughter was the worst she'd ever had in her life. She's 28, and worked in restaurants for a long time, so that's some going! We all make mistakes, so own up. Your waitress did. Taking ownership of your business is the least you can do. Not hard. Get out front and show your face. Some of the food was good tbf. Mine was. The starter in particular. Lovely egg, haggis, black pudding. Some was really poor. Steaks were genuinely dreadful. My advice is this; if you smell trouble, get out front and sort it out. PS. fair play to your staff. PPS. Fair play to Summer in particular.

Don't normally leave a bad review anywhere but yesterday the service was absolutely shocking bearing in mind we was regulars to the pub before, I assume it's been taken over as all the staff are different. Stunk of dog when we walked in. Women behind the bar was covered in dog hairs. We was sceptical about ordering food, anyway we did 45 minutes later they come to tell us there's no filter steak or prawns so basically the full order. So we just got a refund for the food a left definitely won't be going back

Called in for an early evening drink, nice pub after the refurbishment. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Didn't dine on this occasion, but the food looked nice with a decent looking menu. Only negative, it's Robinson's real ales, which I don't like, good choice of other drinks though, would have given 5 stars otherwise. I have altered my rating of this establishment, dined here on Thurs 21st June. The menu was very good, we picked off the Specials, what a very good choice, the food was very good. The Malbec red wine we had was excellent. A very nice waitress by the name of Beth was fabulously attentive and friendly. Would recommend without hesitation, will also return to dine again. Please see pictures of the lovely food we had.

Albert's Schloss in Manchester is a Bavarian-style beer cellar that offers traditional German food and a variety of pilsner beers on tap and in bottles. It's known as a top spot for brunch, featuring a menu with options like the Cook Haus breakfast, Salmon Royale, wild mushroom and spinach toast, and the Schlossage Sandwich. The establishment also bakes its own breads, pastries, cruffins, and kronuts in-house every weekend.
I absolutely loved my experience at Albert’s Schloss in Manchester! The ambiance is beautiful, warm, lively, and full of character. The food was incredibly good; I tried the eggs + mushrooms, the Shakshuka, the cappuccino, and the Bono chocolate. My favorite had to be the eggs with mushrooms, so delicious. The service was outstanding as well. Our waiter was very sweet, super friendly, and made the whole experience even better. I also really enjoyed the overall vibes, a perfect mix of energy and coziness. I would definitely come here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Manchester!

Albert's Schloss brings a real taste of Oktoberfest to Manchester, and it's hard not to get swept up in the lively yet relaxed atmosphere. We went in the evening and the place was absolutely buzzing with people - it felt festive without being overwhelming. The live performance kicked off around 8pm, adding great energy to the night and making it feel more like an event than just dinner. Food-wise, we shared a platter for four that came piled high with pork knuckles, a variety of sausages, schnitzels, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and sauerkraut. The portion was generous and everything was cooked really well - hearty, comforting food that suited the setting perfectly. Drinks were another highlight, with an extensive selection of beers, wines, and cocktails to choose from. The beer in particular was spot on for the theme. Overall, Albert's Schloss is a great choice if you're after good food, plenty to drink, and a lively night out with a Bavarian twist.

Albert’s Schloss in Manchester never disappoints. I visited on 24th August for Sunday lunch with my Nan, Aunt and two friends for a birthday celebration, and, as usual, it was beautiful. The portions are generous, the pork knuckle was so huge it was impossible to finish, and all the accompaniments were cooked to perfection. From start to finish, the food and service were amazing. I especially want to highlight our waitress, who went absolutely above and beyond when my friend was taken ill and had to leave dinner early. She was outstanding and really tried to make everything better. A huge thank you to her and kudos to the staff. 🙏🏻

Having recently fallen in love with the food, drink, and atmosphere of Bavaria itself, I was lucky enough to stumble across this restaurant in Manchester via Google Maps. My timing must have been perfect, as the Oktoberfest specials were still running. I must emphasize that this was, without question, the best meal I have ever had at any restaurant, ever. The moment I approached, the curb appeal filled me with confidence. The place looked as though it had been lifted straight out of Bavaria and perfectly placed in Manchester. Upon entry, I was blown away. The interior featured a nicely laid-out dining area to the left, a cozy open fire with surrounding seating directly ahead, and large, long wooden tables and benches to the right, all backed by an impressive bar stocked with real German draft beers and a separate cocktail bar to the left. The setting was truly stunning. I was seated in a booth and immediately ordered the Schweinshaxe—the Crispy Bavarian roasted pork knuckle. The menu described it perfectly: "brined for 12 hours before being rubbed in spices and roasted for 3 hours. Served with braised red cabbage and apple and a rich red wine gravy." I paired it with a real Bavarian Weißbier (wheat beer), it was simply divine. The pork nuckle was huge and mainly meat which was fork tender and not too fatty, it had the most perfect crackling too. The braised red cabbage and red wine gravy paid beautifully and cut through the richness of the meat, all that for £19.50. This dish is too good to be seasonal; they absolutely need to add it to the menu all year round! The staff were brilliant throughout the meal. I was served by Alexandro, who was exceptionally polite and attentive. The combination of incredible food, authentic atmosphere, and excellent service made for an unforgettable dining experience

Had a great night out! The food was spot on, and the drinks were perfect—definitely no complaints there. The team really made the experience special with their warm welcomes and checking in on us throughout the night. Only downside was the music was a bit too loud to have a decent chat, but everything else was a solid 10/10. Looking forward to coming back!

Looking forward to our next visit!

We visited for a birthday lunch, joined by my wife and daughter. We ordered three drinks – a Long Island Iced Tea, a Virgin Mojito, and a Forest Fruit Sour – all of which were well presented and enjoyable. For food, we had the Schweinshaxe, Schnitzel Cordon Bleu, and Mushroom & Spinach Mafalde. The Schweinshaxe came with a side of sauerkraut which was slightly on the sweet side – quite different from what I’ve had in Germany. While the sweetness might have been intended to balance the richness of the pork knuckle, it didn’t quite cut through the fattiness as expected. The crackling was perfectly crisp and the fatty layer underneath was soft and flavourful, but the lean meat was a little overcooked and therefore slightly tough. The Schnitzel Cordon Bleu was nicely prepared overall, though the texture of the meat was on the firm side – perhaps due to the cut used. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Mushroom & Spinach Mafalde. The pasta had a delightful chewiness, and the sauce was rich, creamy and full of flavour. Overall, the food was quite good, though the seasoning leaned a little heavy for my taste. The service, however, was excellent – Greg was polite, friendly and had a great sense of humour, and the other male waiter, though he didn’t mention his name, was equally courteous.

Had a fantastic experience here tonight. One of my favourite dishes when I go to Germany is Schweinhaxe. As it is Oktoberfest season, this was on the menu as a special... so I had to didnt I? Started with a warm pretzel served with a sweet sticky mustard sauce and pickled sliced cucumber. Delish!!! I ordered the afore mentioned main with roasted potatoes. I didn't really need them, as the portion was huge, but they were also delicious as was the spiced red cabbage the knuckle sat on. Tender pork with crunchy and chewy crackling, all washed down with superb beer. A grand meal! I hadnt booked, but was accommodated with my dog. Overall, a great atmosphere, beer and food. But what was OUTSTANDING was the service from Afi, my server, who was incredibly friendly and attentive. Great service makes such a difference. I wont hesitate to return when I'm next in Manchester!

I always make an effort to visit here, it’s my favourite pub and well worth the 45 minute train journey! Nice staff and they always have decent beers on tap which are always changing and have a lot of bottles to choose from as well. There are board games and snacks too for those who fancy that.

Port Street Beer House opened in early 2011 and was the first of modern beer bars in the Northern Quarter, transforming a backstreet retail space into a vibrant pub. Outdoor seating at the front and a beer garden at the rear, with more seating on the first floor. The only downside is that the toilets are upstairs, which can create problems if you are disabled. Manchester illustrator David Bailey’s large cartoon mural on the exterior and framed prints inside add to the character of the pub. A great selection of draught and keg beers from 4% pale ales to 11% imperial stouts. When I visited, there was a 20% cask beer discount from noon to 4 PM, Monday to Friday.

Just wanted a snack that would fill us up and that’s what we got. Nice vibe with a mixture of colourful locals.

Had such a good day at the annual Rock Fest! Even when the weather didn't hold out the party & live bands were moved inside flawlessly & the day night continued without a hitch! All for a good cause too!!! 🥳🥳🥳

Kyle and Luke behind the bar were absolutely exceptional in customer service. Luke was efficient in collecting peoples glasses and always did so with a smile. Very good pub, would recommend to anyone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent service from the bar staff along with a nice selection of food to choose from. There are plenty of big TVs scattered around the pub so great for a match day, would highly recommend!
