We went there for a mezcal tasting, really insightful and fulfilling experience. Learnt a lot about mezcal. If you are looking for a tasting that offers information and history about mezcal, I will recommend here. We bought a bottle of mezcal, it is from local producers in Oaxaca.

We (couple) made a reservation beforehand and arrived with enthusiasm for our tasting. After staff interrupted our tasting multiple times for longer periods, we decided to cancel. Cannot recommend.

The tasting experience was incredible. The host walked us through the process of picking the different species of agave and how each mezcal is made from traditional to modern.

Patricia did a great job educating two newbies to mezcal and its huge number of varieties. They have access to microdistillers of some small batch creations with many wild and cultured agave examples to try. We enjoyed the experience and highly recommend this to anyone wanting to learn about this spirit and those who make it.

While our experience wasn't what you normally see from their posts online (we may have come right when they were opening and the girl seemed new), we were blessed to have come in at the perfect timing. Don Yanet was visiting and recommended her Ensamble to try along with an amazing Tobaxiche Amarillo I'm still thinking about. I will go back since their mezcal selection is 5-star and I hope to get the full educational experience.

Amazing experience!! Very knowledgeable staff. My husband and I each tried 5 mezcals, and the favors were tailored well to our individual tastes. We ended up buying a few bottles because the mezcals here were drastically more interesting than anything else we have tried while in Oaxaca or the United States. I love that they support small local production as well as female producers. A must go, book in advance!!

Had an amazing Mezcal tasting experience. The guide / bartender (Daniel) explained the mezcal creation process and Mezcaloteca's approach to crafting mezcal. He customized the testing experience for each of us. We had a great time. PRO TIP: drink lots of water 💦 💧! Not only to cleanze your palette, but to allow your body to process the Mezcal.

Overall great atmosphere and drinks. We didn’t eat food, but this place did come recommended by many. It was our second favourite cocktail bar in Oaxaca, but still highly recommend visiting for the delicious drinks, large bar offering and service. Atmosphere was fun and energetic, and seemed to be the most populated cocktail bar later into the evening.

The Food was delicious! Had the vegetarian tacos and they were so delicious. The molotes were also delicious! Honestly everything was so fresh and good. And the Mushroom soups was so fresh and tasty. Never had anything like it but it was 10/10! But the star of the show was the dessert. We had the corn cake. Omg. It was like nothing I’ve ever tasted but it was so moist and fresh! Definitely would return. Great customer service and atmosphere!

This place is a serious gem. My brother and I came here for a mezcal tasting, but we got so much more than that. Our server, Javier, made the experience so special — he provided so much historical and cultural information about the mezcals we were tasting. You could tell he was seriously passionate and knowledgeable. I don’t speak fluent Spanish (just enough to get by), and I could tell that he was really working hard to make sure I could understand what he was teaching us (I.e. speaking slowly and using simple phrases that still got the message across). It was really a beautiful moment for my brother and I — not only did we get to taste some incredible mezcal, but we felt like we were learning about the culture and like we were really able to connect with Javier despite the language barrier. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Such a fabulous cocktail bar. My friend and I tried two mezcal cocktails and they were delicous. Javier was very attentive - he brought us popcorn to go with the drinks. This intimate bar has gorgeous Oaxacan decor. A great place to try mezcal!

Really good cocktails made by a friendly and helpful bartender. Live music made for a great atmosphere. In a great location, we would really recommend when visiting Oaxaca.

I just turned 40 in this bar, very quietly, no one was watching and I didn’t tell anyone. My girlfriend and our child were asleep in our Airbnb. I did the mezcal 102 tasting, and it was wonderful. With each pour, I received an informative description of what I was about to taste, by a bartender who had no noticeable signs of bitterness or fatigue. I only wish I were more fluent in Spanish. I understood enough, we got through it together. The ambiance was perfect, the level of the music was ideal, I’m 40 now, I am aware of these things. I couldn’t recommend this more as a stop for you and your family, as long as your family doesn’t include young children, if it does, I guess come alone, when they’re asleep.

Disappointed by the experience. The drinks were mediocre at best, yet priced as if they were something extremely special. There are plenty of places in the city offering much better quality for far less. This spot feels more like a tourist trap than a true gem—unfortunately, I fell for it. Not planning to return.

I've been coming back to this place as long as I've been living in Oaxaca (almost two years!) and it never disappoints. I always run into someone I know here!! A great place to have a beer with friends and catch up. It is perfect for any occasion or celebration and has a great selection of drinks.

One of the best bars in Oaxaca in terms of drinks and service. Their menu is HUGE, and the drinks are delicious. Staff is also very friendly and helpful, and gives good context behind each drink. The drinks themselves especially the cocktails seemed very unique and uniquely presented.

We went early on a Sunday before the terrace opened, so we sat at a table downstairs in front of a fan. The house mezcales were all great; we tried 6 of them.

I came here for quick bite and a beer while roaming the streets sightseeing. I tried their torta which was mediocre and an IPA to wash it down. The IPA was delicious! It looks like it was from a local brewer, the beer had a hint of lavender. One of the better IPAs I’ve had in a while, my even be better than some local brews back home.

A beautiful local place in Oaxaca Centre to come for a beer or a quick bite! We took the Tlayudas with cecina (which is beef) inside it has bean sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato and salsa verde. We also took the Memelas with cecina (the mini tacos and also the “chapulines” which are the crickets. You need to like the chilli flavour.

Google maps makes a lot of ‘craft beer’ promises in Oaxaca and doesn’t necessarily deliver on them. Luckily, La Mezcalerita is holding up their end of the bargain for the whole city. They have an extensive list of local bottled craft beers and enjoying one while watching the sunset from their rooftop balcony is one of the best experiences I’ve had since we arrived here. The food looked good too, although we were already on a ‘taco promise’ elsewhere. I had a First Ascent Double IPA by Ammon and it was VERY good.

They have a huge variety of drinks and the staff will be happy to explain the sorts that they offer and give recommendations upon your liking. The food that they have is also delicious and perfect for a snack/meal. The atmosphere is very relaxed, friendly and joyful and the terrace is very pretty. I totally recommend this place

Pure suffer. Very professional bar, maybe too professional to welcome me. Managed to ignore me with only 3 customers in the room! Got leaded to the edge of the bar. Got the recommendation(one of the most expensives of curse) and no explanation. Tried to nicely talk with them but they seemed more like to stick to conversation with their friends at the other end of the bar. And I wait. And still their attitude told me I shouldn't showed up. Maybe the place is only for their little group, and I doubt you can get normal service if you are not one of their own, even with smile and nice attitude. I heard too much nice things about this place, can't agree now. I bet they have nice alcohol, but the problem is, would you be welcomed to try them?

I really wanted to love this place after reading all the positive reviews online. Maybe I came at the wrong time on a wrong day. - just not feeling much love here. We had much warmer experiences in Oaxaca, including all the other mezcalerias. 3 stars based on acceptable and average experience. The wow or above average experience was lacking for us.

Beautiful decorated space with a sophisticated atmosphere. This is the place to go to try out Mezcal. The bar tenders are highly knowledgeable and they have a fantastic menu. A wonderful creative space.

Not crowded, vast variety of mezcales, way too much mezcal. It has a nice ambience, chill music, modern, little minimalist, and the staff recommended mezcal according to personal taste. Very good place to come.

We enjoyed trying several different types of mezcal. The bartender was friendly, knowledgeable and very patient with our questions and preferences. A relaxing atmosphere and beautiful bar, and prices were good for the quality.

It was a quick lunch for me. I ducked in here off the sidewalk for a sandwich and a cold drink. I really enjoyed my time here. The service was very nice and the food was more than I could eat.

The space in the photos is very beautiful, the rooftop must be very pleasant. Reality: rope on the door, I didn't understand why, because the space didn't have a living soul. The rooftop was not available, the employees didn't want to work either. My experience here was to stay at the door for 5 minutes waiting for someone to let us in, to find an empty space, which I soon lost the desire to order food, because it didn't seem to have a working kitchen, I drank 1 beer and left. I think that for this type of service, it is better to close the doors, because paying for electricity, employees, to have a rope at the door "I'm closed".

Great selection for Tlayuda with a chill rock Oaxaca music. Respect how the owner only offers a selection of drinks and mezcal, and principally do not serve orange or salt to go with any mezcal order — u gotta toughen up if u wanna drink any mezcal! :)

The cocktails were good. We ordered cocktails because of the happy hour times. We asked specially because of that. In the end they charged us the normal price. We told the waiter about the happy hour promo and he told us that we should order it at the same time. Wow guy, you knew that we ordered cocktails and we asked about it. Long discussion. Finally his colleague was coming. Other discussion. I said she was lying and she said no, you are and I'll hit you. She moved her body like she really wanted to hit me. I walked away. Wow girl, are you serious? You are working there and you became so aggressive to a client? So it was a very bad experience in this place! There are much better places in Oaxaca where you can find friendly and honest staff!

This place was not what we expected! We walked in and sat at the bar... we could see a small dance floor, great music, and every one was dancing we thought that was it. Then we saw the stairs and went up. There was a whole upstairs area, with a speakeasy behind a wall/door with different music and a bar.

Always a good place to have some Mezcal. Sometimes they have live music alternating with a DJ. Don't forget to try the tacos, they're pretty good.

250 for one pour and I left it there. So many better experiences with far better mezcal. The prices are a lot. They are set up to tip tourist's off. They in situ, quioxotes, or Mezcaloteca.

This is a very nice, conveniently located, small place to taste some excellent mezcales. If you are experienced with mezcal you will find a great selection to try. If you are new to mezcal this is a great place to begin your journey, away from the bars, in a quiet setting with experienced people to assist.

One of the best mezcals we’ve had on our trip. Tepextate especially was amazing. Such rich flavor and so smooth. Great prices for the quality you’re getting too.

A small tasting room in a quiet area. Cuish provides powerful, clean, and diverse Mezcal. Our bartender was very knowledgeable and patient with us during our stay. We tried five options and settled on purchasing a bottle of the Arroqueño.

It is a really friendly place to try mezcal produced by the Cuish coop and learn about the production process for mezcal. Juri (please forgive my spelling!) was incredibly friendly and extremely knowledgeable! Couldnt recommend enough!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent dining experience. The server provided excellent recommendations and contributed significantly to the pleasant atmosphere. We were particularly impressed with their attentiveness throughout the evening. Our favorite dish, without a doubt, was the octopus. Make sure you make reservations well in advance.

We came here twice. 1st one, we came for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Our waiter was Johnathan and he was awesome: friendly, attentive and very helpful. Food overall was good (not like the best food we ever had but we enjoyed the experience). For those who come specially because of the Michelin star, Michelin star restaurants have expensive food but it doesn't mean they have the best food. You're paying for the overall experience, not for amazing food. Anyway, we made another reservation to come back to the bar sitting area to get cocktails and desserts on an evening 2 days later and had a completely different experience. After the hostess sat us down, we waited for 20 minutes and no one came to give us water or ask us anything as if we were invisible. The waiters attended to other tables and left. Nobody would probably came to us if we didn't ask the hostess again why no one came to take our order. When the waiter came, he didn't even acknowledge it at all, no apologies, nothing as if waiting over 20 minutes for someone to come over is normal here. If it is indeed normal, we won't come back here, definitely doesn't meet the Michelin star standard. What a big disappointment. The only good thing about tonight is the chocolate lava cake was done right.

Had made reservations way in advance as it’s one of the many Michelin in Oaxaca. Food was average. Not quite in line with the hype and the price in my opinion. We even tried the Chiles en Nogada, a colorful dish representing the Mexican flag. Did not quite wow me. The drinks and food were decent not memorable. Great ambience and good service for sure.

Just acceptable but not good. Unfortunately definitely not at Michelin star level. Portion sizing needs work, with many dishes being far too big. Mains were the weakest course, with our Mackerel lacking flavour and tasting too heavily of greasy butter. Mushroom lasagne was too big and lacking in flavour.

Dinner at Los Danzantes was a special experience, a memorable meal. I had made reservations over a month in advance. My partner and I were on vacation from the US. I've had Mole and Mezcal in US multiple times and never cared for either. I decided to take advantage of being in Oaxaca to try Moles and Mezcals from the true source. We intentionally ordered authentic dishes to Oaxaca while dining here. Antonio, our server, was excellent! He made great suggestions. The meal was well paced. I had an Aviation cocktail and asked for Anejo Mezcal. Los Denzantes has their own brand. I like it so much that I purchased a bottle! The first Mezcal I've enjoyed! We had Bugs, which came with guacamole, tomato, & string cheese on the side. Bugs! It was a strange experience, but when in Oacaca... We also had a Mole flight with plantain dumplings. I decided this would be a great addition to my Mole exploration. I learned I like yellow and red moles! The hummus is also delicious. We were also given cocomelons. For our main dish, we had the pork rib smothered in Mole. It was very tender. Antonio actually suggested a different main dish than we ordered due to us already having a Mole course, but we were set on the pork. It was delicious, but Antonio was correct. It was probably too much Mole. Regardless, the meal was special. We had an excellent Pinot Noir with our food, and completed the meal with expresso martini, one of the best I've had. The vibe is lovely. Interior of the restaurant is gorgeous, minimalist, honoring local charm and tradition including crushed metal pots and pans as decor en cocina. Antonio pointed this out to us, which was interesting! I learned something! I loved the entire experience. I must say, I appreciate the little individual hat/bag/coat stands at each table. Thank you Antonio and Los Danzantes! It was a great night!

Excellent choice recommended by Claude. I had aguachile, which was just so flavoursome and caldo, also incredibly tasty. Plus sitting on the dais I had a view over the place, perfect for a solo eater. Diana was a very kind and attentive waitress too. My first time eating grasshoppers and I think it will do it again!

Our experience was disappointing for a Michelin star restaurant. The service wasn't on par with other restaurants, and the food lacked balance or taste. The butter was too sweet and the bread looked like airplane bread; the pork was cooked perfectly, but the sauce was very strong in taste and the purée way too sweet; the octopus was nothing special, especially when it comes to what came with it (cherry tomatoes and sautéed potatoes). The beef tongue tacos and hoja santa were great.

This is a high end mezclaria. It's small, but the mezcal is much better than many other mezclarias. The server and manager were very knowledgeable about their products. Great place to try out some mezcal.

We did degustaciones and copas of mezcales, and we enjoyed them all. The bartender did a great job of explaining the difference between all of the mezcales. The seats were very comfortable (compared to the backless wooden stools at other mezcalerias).

Very attentive and friendly staff who is knowledgeable about the Mezcal that the house specializes in. It was our first time mezcal tasting and the bartender walked us through some of the basics, kiss the mezcal, don’t mix it with anything but water, and drink it slowly. We did the basic tasting which cost 180MXN, and got three 1 oz. shots of mezcal. The bar is very cute, decorated with clean lines and pictures of the family who made the mezcal. Overall loved the experience of sharing time with friends while tasting some great mezcal. Even my husband who typically doesn’t like mezcal enjoyed the experience and actually liked the mezcal!

Great variety of mezcal, and a friendly staff. They really know what they are talking about and gonna help you to have a good "mezcal" experience. Also, they do accept payment in cards. A little bit expensive, but worth it. A place to go with your friends.

Fun degustaciones. Bartender very knowledgeable in explaining the varieties and the blends, what they were made with and the flavors. It's hard to recommend places here because there are so many awesome little mezcalerias with local amazingness and this is definitely among my favorite so far!

This has to be the best mezcaleria on the planet! Abbey (sp?) is extremely knowledgeable and, apart from the excellent mezcal she offers up for tasting, we just really enjoy chatting with her.

For the price paid, it was good but did not meet expectations. The space was a regular interior design, though we had a whole (small) room to ourselves since the restaurant was empty. We had both heard good things so we’re looking forward to a great experience. The chef took into account our food restrictions. We had the 9 course tasting plus pairing. Per person it was 3200 pesos before tip; $178. This included the pairing plus 2 bottles of water. For the money, Pitiona was a better food, better service and better view/design. At El Destilado, the tastings were all very small which was fine. The 8 pairing of alcohol was also too much including cocktail, sparkling wine, beer, white wine, sake, red wine, cocktail. Phew. Next time I would just order wine by the glass. The service did not feel different than any other restaurant, and for the price paid I would expect more. My favorite courses were the bite of fish (trout); the mushrooms, and the delicious ice cream dessert.

My friend and I decided to conclude our trip in Oaxaca by dining at the best restaurant, El Destilado according to reviews. We were so excited but the whole experience was underwhelming and disappointing. We were seated on the rooftop. The ambiance doesn't tell you that we were paying $6000 about $350US for a dinner for 2. We thought we'll maybe the food will redeem the experience. The 9 course tasting menu along with the drinks came and went , for the amount of money, we were expecting to be wowed. But NO! There were a lot of times where we neither have food nor drinks. The service was mediocre at best. The missing crowd on a Saturday night should have hinted us.

Beautiful restaurant. Loved the decor and atmosphere. Our servers were great and answered all of our questions. The food was immaculate and we actually came back a second time. Highly recommend this restaurant and also ask about their 6 course dining experience if you’re feeling fancy. The a la carte is limited to mainly tacos. We would have loved to try the dining experience if we knew about it. Other than that, great experience.

Just an incredible meal— each course was absolutely divine! And they all flowed so well together, each item paired harmoniously with what came before it. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but their upstairs terrace is cute! The drinks are phenomenal, of course they have mezcal and they have one of the best! One of the drinks had a very interesting garnish which was something I have never seen before. Their prices are quite pricey though, like $250 for fish tacos. They were yummy and delicious but I do not think it was worth the hefty price tag. Great service and very friendly staff. The desserts were AMAZING and an evening here for dinner or for some drinks is a great bet for a great night in the center of Oaxaca.

We were the only ones having the tasting menu on a Sunday night, and we really enjoyed it! Food was wonderful — filling without overeating. My favorite course was the flavorful tomato soup. They accommodated my boyfriend’s shellfish allergy with delicious substitutes. Server was nice and spoke both English and Spanish. Tasted mexcal — we did drinks a la carte

Honestly one of the best gastronomic experiences I’ve had. We were the only guests who had the 9 course meal with pairing, so we had the chefs undivided attention. Each dish was carefully constructed and built upon self-created ingredients such as miso and other fermentations. Both the cocktails and the food were extraordinary, food with vision!

We did a tasting with the bartender and it was an amazing experience! Luis was able to tell us so much about the mezcals we were tasting and had an answer for every question we could think of! He was really passionate about mezcal and the Mexican culture so he even explained the cultural meaning and origin stories of mezcal. We had an amazing experience here and would recommend it to anyone interested in tasting and learning about mezcals!

Fernando and Victor are what makes this place so special. They are both so knowledgeable about mezcal and have curated a wonderful collection of such different types from all over Oaxaca. You can start with a 3 part tasting to get a sense of the different ones. They are both so kind - come in as a customer, leave as a friend. Highly recommend finding this spot for a tasting.

I had a fabulous mezcal tasting at In Situ -- Jose, the stand-in bartender -- was super knowledgeable about the various agaves and the production techniques, and served up 3 fantastic mezcals with cards full of information about the background on each one. He was extremely attentive & answered all our questions -- a great first stop in Centro for a mezcal tasting on a trip to Oaxaca.

This place has hands-down, the best mezcal in Oaxaca!! such complex flavors and truly high quality mezcal. Would highly recommend doing a tasting and the staff is all amazing !! The bartenders were so welcoming kind and informative about the mezcals.

Although I am not a big drinker, if I feel like drinking mezcal I definitely go to InSitu! They make you feel welcome, take their time to explain the differences between the mezcals and cocktails. Loved the ambiance and choice of music!

Honestly the bartender was a jerk. We came in, ordered cocktails with their Mezcal in them and when my friend asked him to tell us about their mescal his response was “why don’t you order a tasting and I will”. I don’t really understand that. We were asking to learn about your brand and that’s the response? Once he warmed up to us his attitude went away more but why should it be like that.

I had one of the best cocktail experiences ever—highly recommended! The bartenders were incredibly attentive and friendly, offering great recommendations. Plus, you can take your drink down to the restaurant below since they’re connected, which makes for an even better experience.

Very nice building, service is great but the cocktails disappointed ☹️ my selva cocktail was too acidic and when I asked they told me it was due to the hierba santa being like that recently 🤔. I asked for a second cocktail Miahuatlán and its flavour was also somehow off. Not sure what happened because in previous visits we had a great time there. We sat near the stairs because inside the main room it was just too hot.

We we loved Selva so much we went back a second night! Cocktails are fantastic especially their CLARIFIED watermelon cocktail. Views outside their small balconies are priceless with a view of the Baroque church, Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán. The ambiance is great and the young waiters work hard to speak ENGLISH to us non Spanish speakers. They were always friendly and smiling and accommodating and they made us feel welcome there. Don't miss this place

Beautiful cocktail bar with European and Oaxacan inspired cocktails. Excellent location to enjoy a cocktail while watching the festivity below. We were allowed in for a short cocktail hour without a reservation, so definitely book a reservation if you want to enjoy more than one cocktail.

Gorgeous bar with a great cocktail menu. I got the picnic and it came with the most delicious pickles!! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Oaxaca - the staff were also wonderful :)

Great atmosphere here and good service. Quirky little spot with cool furniture, cool music, just a cool kid vibe. First sip of their drinks are awesome, explosive flavor with interesting combinations. However, by the end of the drink there's definitely a feeling of too much acid. I see this in some restaurants and bars; you take one bite of something and it's perfectly seasoned, however by the end of the dish it's just too salty. The same thing here with the drinks, it happened with the other drinks we ordered as well. I think if they just toned down the acid in their overall balance the drinks would be perfect. As it is, it was hard to get through two cocktails each.

Bumped into this gem while we were walking around Oaxaca. Stunningly impressive cocktails, good variety of Mezcal, stylish & tasty food all added combined with great ambience and staff. Martina’s passion in what she does and natural ability to flow seamlessly around the customers was a joy to watch.

Food was reasonably good but the service was absolutely AWFUL. Plenty of staff, not a busy time, and no one offering water, asking if you're ready to order, checking to see if you need anything, clearing plates. Nothing! Had to flag someone down for every single thing, which was surprisingly difficult for so many staff floating around. With so many amazing restaurants in Oaxaca, places with not only exquisite food but beautiful ambiance and stellar service, DO NOT give your money to a place where the staff is unfriendly, ignores you and act annoyed when you try to get their attention. Honestly, I haven’t had this poor of service in ages and even though the food was good, it’s absolutely not worth the overall poor experience.

View was incredible and probably worth it just for the view. We didn't have the food so can't comment on that, but the drinks were good but nothing stellar! Rooftop was large though and we were able to get a spot with a great view on the weekend with no reservation.

These are probably some of the best cocktails we had, and Oaxaca. Great atmosphere, everyone was super friendly, and not pretentious, would definitely recommend and go back. Our son loved the baby tables that are next to the windows and reminded us of the famous Zoolander quote.

Cozy place with great service. Learned of different agave plants and the distinct mezcal flavors they each create. The live guitarist with a great voice and the friendly inebriated local were fantastic additions to the whole experience.

Fantastic views and delcious food. The black rice was rich and tasty for mains. Luce was a superb server - very chatty and friendly!

Almost gave them four stars because you can get a better value for some of the same drinks at other places but the view makes up for it on the roof terrace. Did not get any food here so I can not attest to the quality of the taste or service. It was a Monday evening and we stopped in around 4pm when it was not very busy to grab a quick drink and take in the sun and beautiful view of the cathedral and the town.

We visited Sobrio on Armando's recommendation (Street Art Tour guide). Paola, bartender, offered great mezcal recomendations on my favorite agaves. We ran into fun couple that happened to be sitting next to us at Casa Oaxaca the other night. Small world & it made for a fun evening! Paola made the difference turning a nice night into a memorable night! I bought two bottles to take back to Puerto Vallarta!

We found this spot late one night having arrived late to our hotel. Unassuming, but super cool. Great mezcal cocktails, wonderful service (both nights we ended up stopping in). Amazing local mezcales, including some from outside the region. Knowledgeable staff & great vibes. Highly recommend!

Sobrito is the cozy, but welcoming bar you have been looking for. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about Mezcal, and seek out obtaining special varieties that are not available at other spots. Highly recommend.

They were 3 young european lads that knew nothing about Mezcal and for some odd reason got 3 full shots of high quality mezcal...and thought they didnt have to pay, did not ask, and took off down the road without paying. They were nice guys besides that...so maybe just confusion. But for me, one of the top mezcal places in all Oaxaca.

Amazing Friday night in Oaxaca! Just after watching the parties in front of the church, you can follow the techno to the rooftop of Los Amantes hotel. Come early for amazing views of the sky or the twinkling mountains after sunset. Service is impeccable, food is great and the dj was excellent. Had the ribeye chicharron which was charred and chopped ribeye on top of a huge pile of guacamole serve with various tortillas. As well as the risotto con cacahuazintle. Both dishes were quite filling and I appreciated the unapologetically large mushrooms on top of the local corn and mole Amarillo. Finished with a Oaxaca tiramisu. I left full with leftovers. You can definitely get better food, but the experience was high-end and inexpensive all around. I’d recommend this spot as a general crowd pleaser.

The restaurant at the rooftop and has an amazing view. The church is just in front of us! Their food is also great. We ordered chicharron de rib eye and taco de lechon. The chicharron de rib eye comes with tortillas. Tasty but a little salty for me. It will be less salty if adding some cheese. I love the lechon (pork). It’s well seasoned, not too greasy. Also recommend their mezcal cocktails. I like citron mescal, sour and very fresh!

Bottom line: Bad food, expensive, no atmosphere. We went to really good terrazas in Oaxaca, this was not a good one so don’t waste your money. This restaurant was recommended to us but a friend who visited few years ago. We booked a table for 2 over a month before and weeks after they cancelled our reservation without an explanation. We tried to get in contact with them but got no answer. On the day we thought let’s just go there and see if they do walk ins. They did, they had plenty of free tables, so we were very confused on why they cancelled our reservation but whatever, it’s all good let’s just go. They set us in a small table on a pathway when there was plenty of nice free tables. We came early so we said we’ll just have a drink first and order food later, which they said it was fine. The waiter was very insistent on us ordering food straight away and came to our table several times, every 5min. They got our drinks order wrong a couple of times, and the food was just average and not cheap. Really basic and inauthentic menu, with very basic flavours. Staff wasn’t very nice and ignored is a few times. The restaurant had no vibe and you could just hear 3 different songs being played for the terrazas around. Not worth your time. There’s plenty of other really nice places around. Not a great experience.

The steak was well seasoned. They play English music. They do have some Oaxaca fusion meals. Best to make a reservation for the weekends. We basically had the entire place to ourselves in Monday night. The prices are very fair for American prices. Locals do not typically come here. Mostly tourists. They have great moctails too. Last but definitely not the least… the views, ambiance, great staff!

Ceviche de tigre, aguachile camarones were top notch. Wow, simply wow, we gobbled down plenty wine on this beautiful terrace watching at the cathedral and yapping away, a the blanket of stars gave us warmth and comfort. Perfect date night sort of place!

Very disappointed with this place! We ordered several plates and they were ok but the calamari was discussing and we were forced to return it. The chef said that we had to pay for it or the waiter would end up paying for it. That comment was repeated several times by on of the hostess. We refused to pay for something that we didn’t eat and tasted bad! To intimidate the customer that way was just plain evil and will never visit this place anymore!

Quiote is one of the best bars that you can visit in Oaxaca. Both Aidan and Celia possess an incredible amount of knowledge on mezcal and I must say that I had one of my most favourite tastings of unique and small batch Mezcals that you can find from regions which are typically not visited. They have done a great job with the amount of research they’ve done and I wouldn’t have picked a better place to show my new Mezcal to as well. A must go!

Lived here more than 2 years and Mezcal is a love of mine. Quiote is my favourite Mezcal place...one of 3 I regularly frequent. The owners Celia and Aidan (mexicana y americano) are friends of mine now and deliver an unbiased, knowledgeable, and entertaining deep dive within their tastings....and their selección is the best in town...for me! A fantastic mezcaleria in a town full of good ones. There are plenty of places to drink mezcal in Oaxaca, but Quiote is a special one. Celia and Omar (the owners and people you'll most often find behind the bar) have put together a fantastic library of small batch mezcals. By visiting the producers and using their knowledge of mezcal, they've assembled a thoughtful collection that will appeal to new comers and impress experienced mezcal nerds like me. And equally importantly, if you're new, they will graciously educate you without any pretense or snobbery. At a time when mezcal has become sort of trendy, they eschew attitude and are simply welcoming and helpful. Their location, in the Xochimilco neighborhood, is a short walk off of the downtown area on a pedestrian friendly street. Located upstairs, Quiote is a nice bright room with big windows. It's typically lively enough to be fun but also serene enough to be able to easily converse and hear. Of course you can just drop by and have a copita of mezcal, but calling in advance and scheduling a tasting would be my recommendation. There are 3 tasting levels available, from the introductory where you get to try and learn about four mezcals, to the more advanced and more tastes levels. At the introductory level? The four pours and knowledge you'll obtain cost no more than a single copita of quality mezcal would cost you in the USA. I've told friends that a visit there will likely have them finding the "best mezcal they've ever tasted", and so far nobody has proven me wrong. (And if you find that best mezcal you've ever tasted, you can also buy a bottle from Quiote to bring home.). Do yourself a favor and visit Quiote Mezcaleria.

I had a very good time at this place. Very crowded for low-season so can’t imagine what it looks like in high-season, the patio needs to be expanded a bit for larger space. Every worker was nice and professional except for the white blonde lady who looked like a villain from a telenovela. She’s probably the Floor Manager and was rude on a number of occasions disregarding me totally when I had a question for her. Watch out for her. Apart from that, good vibes.

We came for some drinks and music and had the best time ever!! It was insanely busy as it was day of the dead,so not sure how busy it usually gets,but they have a mexican music downstairs and kinda techno/electric upstairs on the terraze. The queue to get to the terraza was about an hour,but it was worth it. The DJ was awesome,great banging tunes and great vibes. Drinks were pretty cheap as well. Highly recommend!!! It was 50 pesos to get in.

Whether you're a local or are on holiday, this is needs to be a must on your list! From the dynamic and kind staff, to the music, food and beverage, it is an amazing place to come, relax, dance and just have a good time. Another neat thing is that on weekends you can choose to be on the 1st floor dancing to the live bands or upstairs with jamming to the beats and mixes of their talented DJs. Definately worth the cover, and very affordable prices.

Bar/club good music, good crowd, the beer is cold. The mixed drinks leave room for improvement. It does get crowded in the main bar, but there are other areas and little rooms where its less crowded and you can hang out. Didn't like that the waiter seem to just hang out where you are, just kinda staring.. bit odd.

“Helados y Destilados” is a must do when visiting Oaxaca. Who knew that combining sorbets and agave spirits would be such an incredible experience. Truly an exceptional pairing rich in flavors of exotic local fruits (guanabana was my favorite) and really rare agave spirits like Comiteco, Tuxca and Lyobaa. Do not miss this unique experience.

Wow what an amazing learning experience Mezontle was! Never in my life did I think I could say I have tried mezcal distilled with Iberian pork?! Which was my absolute favourite out of the many incredible mezcals I tried - you will absolutely love this experience if you’re lucky enough to pass by - highly recommend!

I stumbled upon this mezcal bar last night and was pretty happy about it. Really great selection of mezcals. Their branded stuff is by Koch but they have a huge choice of off menu house bottles as well. All the ones I tried were awesome. Coyote, Tepeztate, Arroqueño, Sierra Negra etc. I even bought the latter to take back home with me. Cozy lounge area and friendly service too. Definitely worth a visit in Oaxaca!

Decent Mezcal but super unfriendly staff. My friends and I arrived about 40 minutes before closing and instead of serving us a drink they tried to usher us out. Nonetheless we wanted to order a drink because our goal was to try as much Mezcal as possible in Oaxaca and they tried making us order a flight instead of shots. Super unfriendly service would not recommend tourists go to this bar.

If you’re excited to try and learn about mezcal while in Oaxaca, put Mezcaleria Cuish at the top of your list. We discovered this brand a few years ago and have been looking for another bottle since…we hit the jackpot! Salvador hooked us up with a tasting of everything and made sure we knew what we were tasting (cue the maps, family photo albums, and helpful books). Go spend a few hours here trying different mezcals and refine your preferences…you’ll have a great evening and want to walk away with a few bottles to take home.

This restaurant has a great atmosphere, good service, excellent plating and good dishes. We had the insect tostada which was great, duck (good, but needed more rendering on the fat), rabbit which was quite good, super tender short rib and a whole fish. All of the flavors were good, but nothing remarkable to want to return. Experience was quite good for a 1 time visit.

I arrived at the restaurant with relatively high expectations in light of the reviews and was further surprised to discover that the place had won a Michelin star for 2024, which raised my expectations even more. The prices are indeed expensive compared to Mexico. The starters were much less good than many other restaurants I've eaten at, we ordered ceviche which was the least tasty and quesadilla. The meat dishes were better, although small. In terms of service, I will say that there is a sense of haste and acceleration in clearing the table which was very unpleasant, the minimum is to ask before clearing a plate when we haven't finished eating and to take my glass when there is still water in the bottle on the table. The service really needs improvement!

Food was tasty, but not what was expected from a Michelin place! Flavors were very similar to food you'd get outside, thus I'm questioning the price value! Portions were good and we didn't leave feeling hungry! Especially the salsa was great, made fresh at the table in front of you and customized to your liking! Unfortunately, I got food poisoning from the scallops, which symptoms almost caused me to be hospitalized! From what I read though, it's caused from a heat resistant algae toxin - so I'm assuming in good faith that the restaurant had no control over that and it's an isolated situation! The atmosphere was good... We were sat upstairs, outside and right by the church, so it was expected to be loud! The interior is beautifully decorated, very simple yet feels homey and Mexican. Service was decent... Staff was very friendly, but we were seldomly checked in on and occasionally had to call for assistance or to order! Perhaps normal in Mexico and just not what we're used to! Sadly not many spoke English, which of course generally isn't to be expected in another country, but would've been nice in a Michelin place! Translate app helped a lot! All in all it's a nice place and recommended for dinner, but don't know if I'd go out of my way to book again!

In 2022 and 2023, this was a 4 star place. I came back in 2025, the quality of food dropped to a 3 star. It is surprising considering they got Michelin award in 2024. This just caused their prices to go up but food quality and presentation of the dishes got worse. I was looking forward to coming back after 2 great experiences in 2022 and 2023. This time Oct 2025, the food quality, food portion dropped while the prices went up 1.5 times. I'm sad to see this. But I can no longer recommend this place. 😕

We've been to every michelin plated place in oaxaca now. This was definitely the best. Every dish was well cooked, and not avante guarde but still elevated. The presentation was great and elegant (does not photograph well).

Love it! If you are looking to buy mole paste to cook at home, this is the place. They also have a ton of artisan products like dresses, belts, and other things.

Eating here is one of the best food experiences in the world! You walk into the meat hall, grab a basket, and choose your meat package based on the number of people in your group. Then they grill it for you while the lady selling salsas and nopales finds you a table. It’s a whole experience — loud, lively, and totally worth it. Be patient; everyone’s shouting, but it’s part of the charm, and you won’t regret eating here. There’s a lot of smoke inside, so consider asking for a table away from the grill area if that bothers you.

A wonderful local Oaxacan market. I purchased some fruit, veg, chicken and beef here. There are lots of stalls and shops that include everything you need at much better prices and quality than the commercial supermarkets. All of the stall owners were friendly and helpful, highly reccomend a visit here. They also have some textiles and souvenirs.

Probably the best market in Oaxaca city centre as it offers both food and local goods. Mostly attended by locals, which is a good sign

The food itself was enjoyable, no complaints there. However, the service was disappointing. The waiter with glasses didn’t seem to care much about cleanliness or customer service. My table was visibly dusty, and when I pointed out that the plate was also dusty and asked for a new one, there was no apology—just indifference. I ended up wiping the table down myself with a napkin. What really sealed it was being asked for a tip after all that. Sorry, but good service earns gratitude, not demands. Not impressed.

My wife and I went here on our honeymoon. The food was delicious and I especially recommend the sweet elote tamale! We did however have a horrible service experience. Our server was very sweet and “recommended” a glass of the house wine since it was our honeymoon. We had already ordered cocktails but she insisted on having us try the wine and when we said it was nice poured us glasses. Given the context it seemed the house wine was a gift from the restaurant for our honeymoon. Although we honestly didn’t want wine, we forced ourselves to finish it to show gratitude for the kind gesture. When the bill came we were shocked to see the wine on it for 390 pesos! I alerted the restaurant of the error but they said we had accepted the wine and refused to take it off. So basically we were forced to pay for wine we didn’t even want on our honeymoon! This is not the type of service you expect at a fine dining experience. It was obviously a communication error, but seeing as both my wife and I had the impression that the wine was complimentary they should have taken at least one glass off the bill. It really tainted the entire experience of dining here.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Struggled to find gluten free items, but the majority of the menu was gluten free here! We got 3 dishes to share, and they were all delicious. Courtyard where we ate was beautiful. The mezcal drink we had was also phenomenal. The best drink we had in Oaxaca! Would recommend!

Loved the vibe at Zandunga, relaxed, welcoming, and full of Oaxacan charm. I had the ceviche and the corn tamal, and both were incredible. The ceviche was super fresh and well-balanced, and the tamal was soft, slightly sweet, and full of flavor. Definitely a place I’d come back to.

We had lovely dinner in Zanduga. We tried for entradas 5 tacos with 16 different taste, definitely the best tacos we tried in Mexico so far in 7 days. We give 10/10 for this very rich with meat tacos. For main meal we ordered pork ribs marinated in chilli with ananas and mashed potato. There is no words i can describe how this pork ribs were tender, real delicacy. I am giving 100/100 for this meal. Another meal was tongue in mole sauce. Tongue was tender and great, mole is something you need to try while in Oaxaca but for our european (croatian taste) it was too much. But everyhing was good, we are just not used to this type of taste. We know about goulash and this looked like it. Craft beer is fantastic, very drinkable. If you ask me would I return here my answer is definitely YES!

We had the most delicious food from Isthmus region, and our waiter on the night couldn't have been more helpful in giving us recommendations - we loved everything. Definitely a must visit in Oaxaca

Had a great night at Origin! The cocktails were amazing — super creative and perfectly made. But the highlight was Pedro, our server. He went above and beyond, was incredibly kind, and made the whole experience feel special. Great service, great drinks — definitely coming back.

It is one of the best restaurants that I have in Oaxaca. Relaxing vibe, excellent food and good service. The waitress explained each dish very well and recommended dishes to customers have certain restrictions. No rush and can really enjoy the food and vibe. Highly recommended to try beef tongue with chichilo mole, the spice and salt just balanced very well and would make you want to keep eating. They change menu seasonally.

This place came highly recommended and we were looking forward to the rib eye steak for lunch. First the good: the potato appetizer was the best dish. The drinks were good. I had the soda of the day- mango passion fruit with seltzer water. My short rib dish was delicious, but not what I expected— a bowl with cous cous, veggies, and bits of ribs in a delicious sauce. I expected whole ribs. Now the issues: service was very slow with little personality, especially at these prices; The New York steak was over cooked. The setting in a courtyard was basic and we were swarmed with flies once the food came. Also, the restaurant was poorly responsive by OpenTable message, phone, and What’s App to modify our reservation. I had to go to the restaurant to make the change. Overpriced. I have a feeling it used to be better.

Origen was the best meal we’ve had in Oaxaca, and we’ve tried a lot during our time here. The food was outstanding, beautifully prepared, and full of flavour. We went during the week when it was quieter and even had the chance to chat with Chef Rudolfo, who was generous with his time and insight. Our waiter, Ignacio, was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and explained the menu perfectly in English, which made the whole experience even smoother. Highly recommend Origen to anyone visiting Oaxaca. Five stars all the way.

Service was impeccable. Cocktails were delicious. Food was ... okay. Nothing was bad, but nothing was particularly good either. Maybe I came on an off night or ordered the wrong dishes? I had the tasting menu, where you order one of each course, and had the molote, scallop taco, fish, and chocolate taco. They were all just fine. At this point I've been to all the big fine dining restaurants in Oaxaca, and this was my least favorite.

Despite our attempts to communicate in Spanish the staff spoke better English and was very keen to help us understand the menu and some of the cooking process. The food was very nice, Mexican, and elevated to a fine dining level. They were very helpful substituting ingredients that we had allergies against and replaced meat dishes for one of the party members who only eat fish. Would highly recommend this place if you are in the market for high quality Mexican food.

Fantastic tasting menu with unique and local flavors and large portions. I was very pleased with this restaurant - the courtyard is cute and cozy and the server was helpful and friendly. My favorites were the soft shell crab taco, sea bass, and salad with salmon roe. I was also able to easily modify the tasting menu to be pescetarian friendly.

We enjoyed dining here very much! We first came here on a tour with Omar and then came back for lunch. The setting is gorgeous in the middle of a garden. You have chickens running around under your feet and it’s quite endearing while we were here. One of the staff lit up some leaves and walked the smoking leaves all through the restaurant in a ceremonial manner. We only had a couple of dishes for lunch but they were delicious and had great portions.

The food is a mix of creativity, native flavours and innovation. You are in for a treat when it comes to the drinks and food. The 6 course meal begins very strong with some of the most amazing apatizers I've ever had. Everything is thoughtfully put together and arrives fresh and warm. The only disappointment of this meal was the workers serving it. They aren't excited about the ingredients, they seem rehersed when talking about the complexity of each dish. It's a shame to have a kitchen work so hard on this incredible meal, and have very dry personalities precenting it. The staff was just not friendly at all. You feel like you are intruding by being there. At one point we poked our heads to check out the amazing bar. We were given uncomfortable looks. This would have been a good opportunity for someone to invite us over to the bar on a different occasion or explained more of the concept. We went when the restaurant was quiet and had only a few other tables. They had a lot of staff standing around. I think that with an incredible menu you need to have people who are also passionate about precenting it to you.

10/10 - this place is great! on the pricier side but in my opinion totally worth it if you’re looking for a delicious oaxacan upscale meal! we went to pujol a week prior and almost thought this was better. each course was a delight, perfectly timed and they were very accommodating of dietary restrictions.

Fantastic original gourmet food, gorgeous location, great staff. Was a little more expensive but totally worth it. I had the egg taco- inside was an over easy egg- delicious.

Beautiful Interiors, HORRIFIC HYGIENE The biggest disappointment of our Oaxaca trip. We booked brunch, but on arrival were told only expensive set menus were available. After showing our booking, they reluctantly provided the regular menu. I ordered a local slow-cooked meat dish that took ages to arrive, and when I made a first bite, I ended up with a long thick black hair in my mouth. I am blonde with short hair so there was no doubt about the nature of that hair. The waiters were in a bit of a shock and dish was replaced, but there was no apology or acknowledgment from management for such a serious hygiene issue. Beautiful interiors, but overall unacceptable service and standards. I do not recommend this place.

Worth the hype, a gorgeous interior and deserving of the Michelin. A bit pricey and the chicharron was too fatty, but definitely should make your list.

Excellent restaurant serving traditional Oaxacan food. Known for their use of different & preparations of corn. I had a classic memelita with queso de Chiapas (kinda funky & good strong flavor) as well as a quesadilla with pork fat & epazote. Both delicious. Cash only. Recommended!

I went for breakfast early in the morning when they’re not busy, and the service was friendly and fast. The outdoor space is lovely but the seat by the open kitchen gives you a close view of the making process which is very cool. I enjoyed their specialty tetelas and the Oaxaca specialty memelitas. Also try their cacao drinks!

It's a bit far away from downtown but it's worth a walk or a short taxi trip. They have nice memelitas, tetelas and tostadas. All cooked in the traditional way. Prices are above average. Drinks are quite expensive (beer and sodas)

Fantastic food. The restaurant is listed in the Michelin list of best restaurants in Oaxaca. The owner or staff will describe the dish and its origins. Excellent choice for breakfast lunch or dinner.

This place is fantastic. You can watch them preparing the mass in full view and then preparing and cooking everything. Portions are small and affordable enough to try lots of things and share with the people you're with. You can absolutely tell a difference with the quality and freshness of the tortillas.

Yellow mole with wrapped snook in hoja santa and grilled vegetables was really tasty. It went perfectly with the El Tule—a refreshing mix of Mezcal Tehuana Joven, cucumber, basil, and lemon, with a worm chili salt rim. The flavors complemented each other nicely without overpowering the dish.

This place is already well reviewed and our experience was great.cocktails were very good. I'm sorry I forgot exactly what I had, but I believe it was with pineapple mezcal and worms on top. The other with watermelon. We had the suckling pig tacos with chicharon. Fantastic with the guacamole pickled onions and with the house salsa. The regular tacos we got next we're not our favorite as the cheese made them a bit too salty for us and in comparison we preferred the pig tacos. Dessert sampler was also great. I wish it were served with a little bowl of honey as the honey was so good. The place is small so it looks like they extended tables into hallways beyond the restaurant near the bathroom and kitchen. That's where we found ourselves. It was still fine and the meal was still enjoyable. I would give 5stars for eating in the restaurant proper for atmosphere and three for the hallway. However the hall area was quiet and peaceful and still nicely decorated. I'm sure some would even prefer sitting in this area. Wait staff were pleasant and accommodating.

Thunderstorm was about to begin. So glad that this place was right in front of us. We weren't hungry, so we decided to order a dessert sampler and latte. What a pleasant surprise! It was some of the best coffee in Mexico, and their desserts (pastel chocolate, flan, and corn bread) were delicious.

We had a great time at Expendio Tradición. Our server Jose Antonio was kind, attentive, and extremely friendly. His recommendations were on point. Everything was wonderful! The food, the presentation, the service. They have menus in English and Spanish, and our server was kind enough to bring us both since we are here to practice Spanish. They were accommodating for our children, and gave great recommendations. My only concern is that we are here on our first night in Oaxaca, and so I’m afraid everywhere else will be a disappointment! Will probably be back for breakfast!!

A great place for dinner and drinks. The food was delicious! My friend and I shared 2 starters: the fish ceviche and the guacamole with chapalinas (grasshoppers!). We also shared 2 main dishes: the octopus and the shrimps, the latter came with a wonderful passionfruit sauce. There was no room for dessert, but we had drinks. I chose the tejate, which was actually quite dessert-like!

We ordered the shrimp and tacos, and they were genuinely delicious. However, the ceviche was extremely disappointing — it didn’t taste like ceviche at all, and we couldn’t even eat it. What made the experience worse was that the staff showed no concern or reaction whatsoever. They simply added it to the bill without saying a word, which felt really unpleasant and unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend trying the ceviche here at all.

Came during lunch time in the wet season and were seated right away. We ordered the milanesa and carne asada Torre’s and the squash blossom quesadilla. All were incredible!

La Popular Named correctly 100% full of locals, greats vibes, and delicious food. Services itself was calm and honestly not needed. You get a great view of the street perfect for views and conversation. The food spoke for itself. México city’s restaurant scene was quite disappointing if I’m being honest but Oaxaca absolutely smashed it out of the park on the first go. We had the Pozole (spicy chicken soup) and Caldo De Camarón (spicy shrimp soup) during a rainy day! Meal for the mood and was packed full of flavour strong 9.1/10 Paired with torta carnitas which was fantastic with the soups! The Salsas were fresh and tasty! Mojitos some of the best I’ve had on the trip so far. Really hard to find a fault in this place especially with the reasonable pricing!

There are two La Populars, the one on Google maps and its smaller sister one block north. Where we ate a few times last year. This is where I am and it’s my favorite. The art alone is reasonable to come but the food is great, beer selection unparalleled, and staff as always in this City me encanta, perfecto. I ate the salmon. Shut the front door it was perfect and I’m from the salmon capital of the world (Seattle).

Restaurant style mexican food! If you want to have good traditional food but do not want to sit on the streets, this is the place. The pozole verde had a lot of flavor and is accomplished with lots of sides. Waiters are not fast but you can enjoy the scene outside!

This place was exactly what I needed after a long walk in the sun. I was very thirsty and looking for a good local craft beer place and there it was! Good beer, friendly staff, English speaking, easy-to-use WiFi, and credit cards accepted! What more could you want? This place was just perfect. I'll definitely be back during my 10-day stay.

Second time here in Oaxaca and was looking for micro breweries/breweries and found this spot. Beers are excellent and the burgers exceded expectations. Definitely worth a stop.

Nice bar serving local beer, liquor, and food too. When I went there to visit this place wasn't to busy. I've tried all of their craft beers... which is a short list, and I also ordered the blue cheese burger. The burger was small, but delicious. The prices are fair, the service is frendly and quick.

Addictive!!! Probably the best brewery I have ever been to on my world travels so far. All three small batch beers were amazing and the NeIPA got me back there 3 days out of the 5 I was in Oaxaca. While there I tried the blue burg (a deal with the simple flight) which was excellent but only a slider size. The pork loin sandwich (which was so good I was half way through before I thought to take a photo) and the bratwurst sausage (hands down best I've had in Mexico). Do your self a favour and check this place out.

food was tasty, but a little bland/plain in my humble opinion. just mole mushrooms ok the bread for the sandwich… i ended up putting the Macha, vinegar potatoes, and Salad that i ordered on it and then it was an interesting experience. i asked to sub corn tortillas for the bread n they couldnt (?) the staff seemed pretty indifferent to me.. the arugula greens were yellowing n swimming in oil…. again. all tasty but i felt it was lacking the concept of ‘food lab’ like touch. prices were decent for quality and portions… definitely cheaper places to eat but you pay for an alternative experience here.

We had a cooking workshop with Etnofood, had the best time! It’s a very nice way to learn about the local culture and the cuisine. First we visited a local market to buy some fresh food and vegetables. After that with the guidance of our friendly host we made several dishes (including mole, salsas, quesadillas) and had an amazing dinner in the end. Loved the whole experience!

I have booked the vegetarian cooking class with etnofood. It made a lot of fun and it was well organized. The food was delicious, the staff very nice. Very nice experience when you get to know more about Mexican Oaxacan food and how it gets prepared. You have to try out this cooking class. I highly recommend.

Excellent salsa making class with Brian and Wendy - we learned so much on the market tour and about the salsa-making process. We made 5 different salsas with recipes to take home, and had a feast of quesadillas, tuna juice and chapulines to eat with the salsa we made. They made us feel so welcome, definitely recommend this class on your trip to Oaxaca!

Unfortunately, we were not impressed. We‘re vegans and always looking for tasty options, but were quite disappointed in the tasteless food and small portions served. The drinks were delicious, but the food was just really not good - as if they didn‘t believe in vegan + healthy + packed with taste. We‘re quite sad about this since it looks like a cool place and project we‘d love to support, and the staff was also lovely.

Our mole cooking class with Victor was amazing! I loved how we got to go with him to the market, select ingredients and received so much information about each ingredient and historical context. Throughout the class he also did a great job engaging each participant and has us work together in a way that felt communal and not awkward when you meet new people/strangers. The class flowed so smoothly and casually that it felt like we were cooking at home in his own kitchen. I've taken many cooking classes before and they sometimes can feel rigid with instruction on how to cook "properly" but Victor created such a warm environment with instructions that allowed all of us to prep and cook in ways we felt comfortable with.

Somewhat away from the other rooftop terraces in Oaxaca, but quite the hidden gem. We loved the food and totally recommend the tuna tostadas and tacos. The drinks and service were great, we already came back again for more.

WOW! A must. The chief Diego is so talented and you can definitely feels his experiences (Michelin star restaurants in NYC) on the tight creative but yet traditional menu. Also a reach cocktail selection, we tried most of it and it was amazing. The roof top view is also great (try the upper floor if it's possible) What to eat? Try the Coliflower Taco (wow!), also the Tostada de Atun is so great. We also really enjoyed the Shrimp Taco. This is a true hidden gem and I'm shooked there is only 28 reviews here. Go there before it will get to popular and it will be hard to get a place.

Great place in a Thursday A guy was playing live music The Corona is 35 pesos There is a rooftop with 3 tables and a balcony below with about 8 more tables and the view of Templo Santo Domingo I had a Fish Taco One for 70 pesos but it was very tasty Overall great place to hang out Those rooftops are amazing Nothing beats that Service was good Id give 4.5 if I could but it’s more a 5 than a 4 Star

El Espacio is our favorite cocktail place in Oaxaca. We’ve tried several spots that got fantastic reviews, but many were overpriced and clearly catered to tourists. A couple even had pretty weak drinks. El Espacio has both creative and traditional cocktails in a cozy atmosphere that’s never too loud or uncomfortably crowded. The bartenders are fun and friendly. We’ve been back three times on one trip!

Awesome little mezcal bar!!! Stumbled upon this place on a Sunday evening at 1 am while walking back to hotel. Super chill vibe, great Mezcal, and very friendly bar tender (shout out Abraham!!!) who gave us lots of tips for local coffee, food, and of course Mezcal!

Cozy little central-located place with ok cocktails and friendly staff. The drinks were ok. There are quite some choices for drinks. The guy behind the bar is very focused, although the drinks might need more balance.

I love Mezcal. I'd read about this place and wanted to go. I'm not short of money to spend on good Mezcal. The place looks fantastic. I went in and the music was so loud it was uncomfortable so I went to leave, someone behind the bar made an expression like what's wrong, I indicated the music is too loud and he made an unpleasant gesture. That was my very short experience there but I had good times in other bars very close.

We love the place, the decorations are beautiful, it is like 2 bars in one, good price and very nice and friendly service, we had an unexpected visitor that sat with us and all the people respect him, a dog!! You need to visit this place, you will be impressed 🥰

A great place to try mezcal!!! We got four shots and two beers- spent the most we’ve ever spent in one outing in Mexico but it was totally worth it. We tried Tobala, Coyote, Reserva Jabali, and Madrecuishe. Madrecuishe was our fave! The ambiance was really interesting- it was either blaring Mexican music or 80’s hairmetal 😂 the man who served us was extremely kind and even took the time to bring us extra oranges. 5/5 for everything, definitely worth a visit if you’re in Oaxaca!

A place to be serious with your mezcal. This is a Bar with a capital “B.” Dark, woodsy and cool. A place to go with 2 or 3 friends that enjoy mezcal without the kiddo crowd. There’s even a jukebox. Brush up on your Spanish or prepare to just go with the bartenders’s recommendation (as I did), as tourists are scarce and English is even harder to find.

Really fun place with friendly people! We stopped by after most tourists left for Dia de Los Muertos and it was hands down one our favorite spots. The jukebox has a good selection of oldies but goodies. Swing by for mezcal and beer if you're in the area. It's a guaranteed good time.

If you are looking for a place where drinking Mezcal is an amazing experience you just found the right place!! From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed, the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable about their stuff, they treat us as locals, we felt right at home and I am not lying that it felt as we were in one of our friends house, they served us some delicious grasshoppers (hey don’t knock them till you try them, they are delicious!!) Thank you guys it truly was an amazing experience!! Will most definitely be back every time we come to Oaxaca, totally recommend this place as a “must visit” when you in town Gracias Amigos!!

It’s not fancy and definitely does not have an attitude, rather Hache and his team are welcoming and treat you as family. If you are an expert or a first timer, the staff will assist you in selecting the best mezcal for your taste. If you desire detailed information on the different varieties of mezcal, the production or on the different producers, the staff is willing to help. This place fills up on the weekends and the vibe is welcoming. If you are fortunate enough to find yourself in El Hijuelo when visiting Oaxaca, count yourself lucky as you might just bump into a mezcal master enjoying his masterpiece at the bar. Shots are 2.5 oz and served in the traditional mezcal glass called a veladora. Note: Mezcal tasting are available from 5:30-7:30.

I can not say enough good things about El Hijuelo. The Mezcal selection is phenomenal and unique and the service makes the bar feel like a home away from home. A true industry spot. Skip the fancy Mezcal tastings and come chat with Daniel over some Mezcal and chapulines. Can't wait to visit Oaxaca again to visit this bar.

I admit I love mezcal, but know very little to nothing about it. After all the samples, explanations and cool insights; I touched only the tip about this awesome beverage! This tasting has me exploring so much more about mezcal and its history & distillation. Daniel was very passionate about mezcal & his knowledge was deep. Came across this small bar looking for a drink and no food. Although we are English and can't speak Spanish and the bartender could not speak English we were made very welcome. We were given some different mezcals to taste and then had some mezcals and beers. Very relaxed and enjoyable.

Great selection of mezcals, great service and lots of fun! The space is small, but if you are lucky enough to get a seat, you won't want to leave. 100% recommend checking it out!

Upon reading about this place online, we were excited to taste and learn about mezcal at La Querencia Mezxaleria. However, once we sat down at the bar we felt very unwelcome. The bartender seemed as though they had no interest in serving or speaking to us for some unknown reason. We asked if they did mezcal cocktails to which we received a very blunt “no” response, which was surprising as there were cocktail shakers on the back bar. A let down given this is what we were expecting after reading reviews and blog posts about this place. We quickly drank our mezcal and got out of there. Maybe we got unlucky with the day and time we went but I would recommend taking your money, as well as your time to another mezcaleria in Oaxaca City where I’m sure you’d feel more welcome.

Awesome bar with hundreds of candles in niches on the walks and a terrific ambience. Fancy cocktails were yummy too. Friendly staff who were happy to help with our cocktail selections. A tip: small place so can get noisy if it gets filled with Americans but don’t miss it -just pick your moment.

I tried the Malinche an the El Último Suspiro. Both were delicious. Separately from the mixology was the ambiance. It’s quaint and beautiful; candles and cool music.
