Boulenc is a popular European-style bakery and restaurant located in Centro, Oaxaca. Known for its fresh-baked sourdough bread, delectable pastries, and diverse menu featuring French, Italian, and international favorites like reuben sandwiches, wood-oven pizzas with sourdough crusts, egg sandwiches on homemade English muffins, shakshuka, and croque-monsieurs. The cafe offers an airy ambiance with tables in a covered courtyard.
Boulenic is a gem in Oaxaca! We had breakfast here and really enjoyed it. French toast was best we ever had. The pastries and breads are absolutely delicious — fresh, buttery, and full of flavor. Coffee is excellent and pairs perfectly with their baked goods. The place has a cozy, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger. Service is friendly and attentive, and everything feels made with care. A must-visit for anyone who loves good coffee , artisanal pastries and good food.

Enjoyable breakfast. Had a baguette with wonderful house made bread and high quality cured meats. Quiche was moderate and served ice cold, which was weird. She loved her shakshuka. Worth a stop for the bread.
Beecat — Google review
I can see why this place has the high rating that it does. I opted for the yogurt bowl and it was divine! My husband had a sandwich and it was massive! Despite the portions, they were not heavy. Loved the fresh ingredients and lovely staff. Looks to be very popular with tourists.
Maggen B — Google review
Loved it here very much! Amazing food, plenty of different options to choose from (also vegetarian) and an impressive drinks menu ranging from kombuchas and lemonades to cocktails, Mexican cava and mezcals. It’s also very cosy there, it’s a lovely covered courtyard so it’s kind of outside but not warm from the sun.
Anastasiia — Google review
We stopped by Boulenc in Oaxaca after looking at it online. The place has a lovely vibe — warm, busy, and full of energy. The food was fine, though it didn’t quite live up to the hype. We had to wait around 20 minutes to get in, so it’s clearly a popular spot, but overall it was a pleasant enough experience.
Harminder B — Google review
Lovely breakfast. I had molletes and added an egg on top. It was delicious. The only thing I really didn’t like, as a matcha lover, was the matcha.
Kimia H — Google review
Cute bakery-restaurant. The breads are amazing and the sandwiches we had for lunch were hearty and delicious. Seems like the place can get busy so anticipate waiting.

You could never go wrong with boulenc! Everytime we’re at Oaxaca we go to boulenc, safe to say it always hits the spot! It does get busy around brunch time, wait time could vary. We waited about ~30 mins. Food was delish and portions can be quite big

The venue offers a relaxed and rustic-chic atmosphere with a courtyard, creating an inviting dining experience. Known for its lighter and healthier take on Oaxacan cuisine, Casa Taviche emphasizes seasonal and local ingredients in its daily changing menu of up to 10 dishes.
We’re just looking for a quick bite but were very presently surprised. Well thought out dishes, nice and forthcoming staff and really great prices. Definitely recommend!
Felix C — Google review
The restaurant is cozy with a nice atmosphere and the food is fresh and well-prepared. But if compared with other restaurants, this one didn’t impress too much. Service was friendly. Good spot to try, but not one I’d rush back to.

Concha rellena was to die for!! The best one I tried. 😋 Has a nice selection of brunch food. Unfortunately the coffee machine was not working the day we went but our overall experience was really nice. Has a nice small patio. Service was friendly as well.
Lucy — Google review
This place was pretty cutesy and perky. Sorry I couldn't think of any other words. There's a bar at the front and the inside is very colorful and, well, perky. I felt like there were more tourists here than other restaurants I'd tried before in the area. The waitress that was serving us seemed a little timid but was still very friendly. We learned the hard way that you have to ask for your check and it was kind of hard to get ahold of her but it's okay. We ordered a potato and leek soup, a tiramisu, and a chocolate tomale. The soup and tiramisu were amazing! The tomale wasn't my favorite but it was still alright. We also got the best chai ever, an iced hibiscus tea, and some fruity mango drink. YOU'VE GOT TO GET THE CHAI. It's astounding.

Came for a late lunch when I first arrived in Oaxaca and it was phenomenal. My Spanish is not great (I can somewhat communicate) and they were super flexible in communication. They had vegan options and I left so full! Would definitely recommend.

An Oaxcan gem! 🌶️👏🏻🌽 We went two times during a week. Cozy, great food and good service. Amazing moles and that extra touch!
Mikaela T — Google review
Incredible breakfast here, and at a reasonable price. Extremely friendly service. Guisado with mushrooms and potato puree: Flavor packed and filling, excellent with chicken added. Enmoletadas: Wonderful house made mole, and plenty of fresh cheese. Added the chorizo which was wonderful as well. Tlayuda: Local flavor, herbal, and the nopal was perfectly cooked. Drinks: Chocolate con agua, jugos, and mimosa were all superb.
Beecat — Google review
What a hidden gem! We stumbled upon this place walking down the street looking for a spot to have a nice dinner. The food is fresh and delicious. We shared the chili nogada and tuna entrée. The Mescalita was Perfection. The café is adorable and the service is really attentive and welcoming. We liked it so much. We came back the very next day for lunch and we shared the avocado toast with mushrooms. The portions are very generous and the price is very inexpensive for what you are getting. The quality is exceptional. I will definitely come back on my next visit if not again during this trip!

Oaxacan restaurant
Mexican restaurant
Casa Oaxaca el Restaurante is a modern eatery in Mexico that offers organic Oaxacan dishes made with free-range meat and fresh vegetables. The restaurant provides a stylish patio setting for diners to enjoy their meals. It is part of an exclusive selection of restaurants featured in the Michelin Guide 2024, showcasing the best of Oaxacan cuisine from traditional roots to innovative interpretations.
We had our anniversary dinner at this beautiful restaurant and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. It began with fresh, handmade salsa, and ended with a surprise cake that made the night extra special. One moment that stood out to me was when one of the dishes we ordered was too salty for my taste. We let the staff know, and they immediately offered to replace it with something else. The new dish was absolutely delicious — much better than forcing myself to finish something I didn’t enjoy. I truly appreciated their hospitality and professionalism. The staff were incredibly polite and attentive throughout the evening.
YK F — Google review
This restaurant has a great atmosphere, good service, excellent plating and good dishes. We had the insect tostada which was great, duck (good, but needed more rendering on the fat), rabbit which was quite good, super tender short rib and a whole fish. All of the flavors were good, but nothing remarkable to want to return. Experience was quite good for a 1 time visit.
Hunter W — Google review
I arrived at the restaurant with relatively high expectations in light of the reviews and was further surprised to discover that the place had won a Michelin star for 2024, which raised my expectations even more. The prices are indeed expensive compared to Mexico. The starters were much less good than many other restaurants I've eaten at, we ordered ceviche which was the least tasty and quesadilla. The meat dishes were better, although small. In terms of service, I will say that there is a sense of haste and acceleration in clearing the table which was very unpleasant, the minimum is to ask before clearing a plate when we haven't finished eating and to take my glass when there is still water in the bottle on the table. The service really needs improvement!
Liana M — Google review
Food was tasty, but not what was expected from a Michelin place! Flavors were very similar to food you'd get outside, thus I'm questioning the price value! Portions were good and we didn't leave feeling hungry! Especially the salsa was great, made fresh at the table in front of you and customized to your liking! Unfortunately, I got food poisoning from the scallops, which symptoms almost caused me to be hospitalized! From what I read though, it's caused from a heat resistant algae toxin - so I'm assuming in good faith that the restaurant had no control over that and it's an isolated situation! The atmosphere was good... We were sat upstairs, outside and right by the church, so it was expected to be loud! The interior is beautifully decorated, very simple yet feels homey and Mexican. Service was decent... Staff was very friendly, but we were seldomly checked in on and occasionally had to call for assistance or to order! Perhaps normal in Mexico and just not what we're used to! Sadly not many spoke English, which of course generally isn't to be expected in another country, but would've been nice in a Michelin place! Translate app helped a lot! All in all it's a nice place and recommended for dinner, but don't know if I'd go out of my way to book again!
Shez E — Google review
In 2022 and 2023, this was a 4 star place. I came back in 2025, the quality of food dropped to a 3 star. It is surprising considering they got Michelin award in 2024. This just caused their prices to go up but food quality and presentation of the dishes got worse. I was looking forward to coming back after 2 great experiences in 2022 and 2023. This time Oct 2025, the food quality, food portion dropped while the prices went up 1.5 times. I'm sad to see this. But I can no longer recommend this place. 😕
Oriana K — Google review
The attentive staff clearly demonstrated remarkable attention to detail throughout our visit. Please note that this establishment prioritizes fresh preparation over speed, so allow ample time for your meal. The culinary creations were truly delicious and well worth the wait. We appreciated the dedication to quality evident in every aspect of the dining experience.
Mary — Google review
Overall it was a great experience with a beautiful view and some great dishes. One of my favorites was the “flor de calabaza” the “Turkey mole” and the Ribeye with great sides. They made a great salsa right on the table and the service was very good. The only thing why I didn’t give it 5 on food was due to food not arriving hot given that you’re on the terrace. If you like fine dinning this is the place.
Juancarlos S — Google review
Based on the reviews I expected this place to be style over substance or a victim of hype, but we had an exceptional meal here. Fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced flavours, attentive staff. Better in my view than other Michelin-recommended places in the city.

Mercado 20 de Noviembre is a bustling traditional covered market in Oaxaca City, Mexico. It offers a wide variety of goods, including fresh produce, baked goods, and local street foods. Adjacent to the market are stalls selling artisanal products such as hand-crafted huaraches and elaborately embroidered blouses. The market is known for its diverse offerings and indigenous influence, with vendors speaking a variety of languages including Spanish.
Definitely a must go as tourist! In the centre of the city so very accessible The market is clean and well kept. Has different sections from food to clothes to souvenir to restaurants. Also had amazing dinner

Pretty packed market! Lots of amazing things to browse and purchase. I found the food stalls to be quite pushy in sales and will always be in your face! Just continue walking if you have this issue. Lots of tasty treats and don’t be afraid to ask for a try of something! Loved the spicy crickets personally.
Spencer F — Google review
A must-visit food market in Oaxaca — loud, chaotic, and full of amazing grilled meats. The famous “smoke hall” is packed with vendors grilling tasajo, cecina, and chorizo right in front of you. Everything smells incredible and tastes even better. Ordering a small plate of grilled cactus on the side is a fun local touch. Be prepared: it’s very crowded and seating is limited. Some vendors may guide you to a table but then require you to order drinks from them — a bit of a tourist trap. We were pushed into buying beverages we didn’t want. Something to watch out for.
Piggly W — Google review
Great Market - Perfect for Exploring Shops and Restaurants I had a fantastic time exploring this lively market! There’s so much to see, with a wide variety of shops offering unique goods and local crafts. The market also features plenty of restaurants and food stalls, making it a great spot to enjoy diverse cuisines. It’s a vibrant place to spend a few hours, whether you're browsing for souvenirs, trying new foods, or just soaking in the lively atmosphere. Definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for a fun and bustling market experience!

If you need food, pantry, vegetables, ice cream, cheese, mezcal, chapulines, fruits, etc… This is the spot! El Morocco is a Moroccan restaurant located in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico. The restaurant was founded by Alejandra Aquino, who spent many years as a waiter in an authentic Moroccan restaurant in Montreal, Canada. The owners of El Morocco took her under their wing and taught her how to prepare classic Moroccan dishes, such as couscous and chicken skewers.
Hidden gem in Oaxaca where they offer delicious Middle Eastern food in a very tranquil atmosphere. Portions are very generous and food is very tasty and comforting. Dessert is a must. In the pictures: 1. Lamb and veggies couscous 2. Mediterranean plate (hummus, olives, and salad) 3. Briouat (traditional Moroccan almond desserts) 4. Mineral orangeade and mint tea 5. I personally loved everything about this place! The setting, the food, the ambience, etc.! My friends and I came here for a quick and chill dinner, and we were actually the only ones in there at the time, which might've been cause for worry about food poisoning, but no worries we were totally fine! It might've just been because nobody else had been craving mediterranean food in Oaxaca at the time, who knows. The atmosphere was super neat, and the decorations made me feel like I'd stepped into a different country altogether. I ordered the falafel sandwich? with a side of couscous? or some type of quinoa salad (my goodness I need to educate myself on the actual names of these dishes) and I tried some of my friend's falafel bowl. Both were amazing in my opinion! I'm just a big mediterranean food lover, I'm not picky. I also ordered some chai, which was little more earthy than I like but ah well. At least the kombucha my friend ordered was good. Staff were super chill and very kind, we tipped them a little more than we'd anticipated but ah well I think they deserve it. Overall awesome place if you're craving some mediterranean food.

Our 3rd night in 10 days eating at El Morocco in Jalatlaco/Oaxaca. Alejandra & staff not only provided excellent service but delivered with exceptional food. Started with plato mediterráneo, pincho keftas, pincho merguez, & briouates de queso de cabra y aceitunas negras. We paid a corkage fee for our bottle of wine. El Morocco delivers with exceptional food, service & value! ¡Gracias Alejandra!
David H — Google review
Rather disappointing dinner. A couscous without dried fruits like raisins, apricots and almonds is hardly a good couscous, plus a few flavourless chickpeas and we have a boring copy of a Moroccan dish. Not recommended

I have never been to Morocco so I can’t speak to the authenticity, but the food sure was good. On top of that, they have a selection of Oaxacan beers and the staff can help you find just the right one.

Surprisingly good! I was a bit sceptical of having Moroccan food in Oaxaca, glad I went in. The upstair area deco kind of cliche but kind of sets the mood. Dishes are well served and quite delicious. My only suggestion goes to the tea section, got the mint tea, they should extract the leaves before serving otherwise it gets to concentrated and bitter.

Best coffee I have in Oaxaca. They did their own roasting with best coffee bean. Good breakfast as well. 10 ⭐ recommend.

The place is nice enough, but it takes incredibly long to get your order. The place was not half full, we ordered two lattes and a pastry and it took 45minutes to arrive. There were 4-5 people working. Maybe the coffee was some special bean but it was not good. I would recommend this place only if you like to wait.

A very inviting cafe with excellent food and coffee options. Admittedly, some of the coffee prices felt a bit high, though the food prices seemed on par with comparable cafes/restaurants in the area. Hats off to the wonderful and friendly service here. I would certainly visit again!

A lovely coffee shop with a great vibe! I visited the location twice because the V60 was so good! Came for brunch with my wife and friends, the location is great with a big 'courtyard' inside, with a canopy that allows the wind to blow through but keeps the sun out. I had a bagel on both occasions which was delicious. The was well cooked, the manchego was gooey and melted, and the bacon was salty and crispy. Wifi was fast, so I could sit here and work without issues. Staff are kind, and service was good.

Pan:am Abasolo is a charming bakery and cafe located in a traditional Oaxacan house with vibrant walls and a lovely courtyard patio. It has gained recognition for its freshly-baked bread, pastries, and good coffee. The menu offers unique twists on traditional Mexican breakfast dishes, such as incorporating nopales in their huevos divorciados. With locations near Santo Domingo Church and in the city's northeast, both spots provide a delightful morning ambiance.
Came here for breakfast, food was great, a bit pricey for others restaurants with the same items. They do say they make everything from scratch and it’s organic. I can’t complain the food was delicious!

The food is average, nothing special, we returned the two cappuccinos, they both were weak, water down coffee, chillaquiles de la abuela were ok, the machaca was nothing special, we were still hungry, also ordered the chicken pesto sandwich also average, and the ham n cheese croissant ( the sandwiches had mexican names on the menu, but i have the ingredients right) we didn't finish the ham n cheese croissant, tasted like gas station sandwich to be honest. The bathrooms are small and lack of ventilation, prices were average for that part of town. Service wasn't the best, they looked overwhelmed.

I had this restaurant on my list for brunch and finally made it after 5 weeks in Oaxaca, but sadly it was one of the worst meals I had. I first ordered the jugo verde, which should have had both orange and apple juice in but clearly didn’t include either meaning it had no flavour / substance - it was just green water. They allowed me to change it for another type of juice, which was a little better but still pretty unexciting and also quite small. I then ordered the Manchaca con huevo and explained that I have an allergy to diary so requested no cheese, butter etc, which was acknowledged, but it still came out with cheese sprinkled over the refried beans and so had to go back. It was obvious the kitchen then simply removed the beans and some of the egg and sent the same dish back with new beans, by which point it was only luke warm and the plate also had a large fingerprint smeared across the side. The scrambled egg was very dry and didn’t have much flavour and the tortillas were similarly dry and very chewy so the meal was extremely boring overall, even with the addition of salsa picante. The patio area is also very dark due to all the umbrellas meaning there are only one or two tables it’s possible to work at. It’s a shame but I definitely can’t recommend eating here.

Cute little breakfast spot with charming shaded courtyard. Service was good. Food and coffee was okay. Vainilla Concha was also very good as well. We ordered the Chilaquiles Abuela with an add in of eggs and chorizo on the side. The serving size was a little small, flavor was okay, eggs were overcooked, and chorizo was oversalted. The cappacinno was way overfrothed and the foam was like soapy bubbles instead of foam. Overall, still a great place to stop in for breakfast if you’re in the area but I would not go out of the way to come here. They did also have reliable wifi and allowed us to work from our laptops which we greatly appreciated.

Cute place, good food. If you want to pay with card they’ll bring you to a different location. Waiters kind of ignored us (maybe busy?) but all in all loved the food. Horchata was delicious! Carrot cake was amazing (had dried cranberries!) and waffles were tender.

Loved the place!! Worth i I t. Hot horchata is very good. Actually everything was good. We ordered waffles, Benedict, sandwich, quiche, various breads, croissants. We were working when we went there, they were really nice to find us a table with power plug next to it even though it was very busy. I would go again and again!!

Cute place! We went for breakfast/brunch and we had a table right away, we went a bit late. Off the bat, they advised us that they only accept cash which was a huge negative. The variety of brunch was okay and service was very slow. Food was okay, I ordered an egg sandwich, the sandwich was very greasy, however, there was a good food presentation. I really did not like that they only accepted cash when I visited. The service was not great as they were not nice. However, the restaurant was clean and prices were okay for the area. I would go somewhere else for better breakfast, better service, and a card terminal.

Located in Oaxaca, La Casa del Tío Güero is a popular restaurant known for serving classic dishes like chile en nogada and stuffed chiles with moles. The restaurant offers an all-day breakfast, making it a great spot for brunch after a night of indulging in mezcal. The rooftop setting adds to the charm of enjoying traditional Mexican cuisine such as the flavorful chiles en nogada topped with pomegranate seeds.
We loved our meal here. I had the veggie chilli relleno and it was so delicious. Almost Moroccan in flavour with cinnamon/fruits inside. Wrapped in egg and fried (looks like batter but more like eggy bread). Very different to the usual Mexican flavours. Yum!

4.7 for food 4.9 for service and atmosphere. The food was delicious and high quality, the service always excellent and the prices are reasonable. They have a lunch special for $145 pesos that includes a drink, first course and main course. I had the chicken soup that was incredibly flavorful and full of chicken and vegetables. The main courses are chicken or pork mole, or grilled skirt steak. The juice was papaya and lemon. We were very happy with our experience. There is a nice terrace on the roof and opens in the afternoon.

Wow! Super cute artsy place with comprehensive breakfast menu. The tacos dorados with mushrooms and pumpkin flower topped with guac were beyond delicious and my husband's huevos rancheros were solid! The beans are vegetarian here which always makes us happy. Luis, our server, was attentive and friendly. We will definitely return.

This place was quite lovely. I really appreciated all the artesanal decorations and furniture they had in here, it was entertaining to look at the masks on the wall and guess the prices of them. Only downside was that there's only one restroom, and almost everyone from our group needed to go at the end so it just became a line, hehe. The service was very easy to work with and one of the waiters remembered exactly what I ordered, despite the fact that he was serving a group of 13! So I thought that was very impressive. I ordered huevos rancheros with verde sauce and a horchata--I really liked the horchata! The huevos rancheros was pretty decent, I just sometimes forget that I'm not a fan of drenched eggs and tortilla, but otherwise it was good.

Very good chile nogada and tlayucas. Also hot choco con leche is very good. Good place to enjoy breakfast and lunch.

I had a chile enogado here about 9 years ago and it was excellent-- I rated it 5. I have used it as a measure for years. Not so for my visit a few days ago. The chile enogado wasn't terrible. It was big, but the quality was mediocre. The enogado sauce was silky and good, but the pork relleno was lack lustre and low on flavor. The ingredients (fruit, nut, etc.) that I loved last time were sadly missing. It came with rice or plain spaghetti. Meh. The salad was huge and fresh, but not especially tasty. A few months ago, I came for a menu of the day. Plenty of food and it was attractive, but it lacked quality/flavor. Sadly, I rank el Tío Güero mediocre (not bad, just not good) and I won't be returning even though I live within walking distance and love the name...

Very good food. I had the mole manchamantelas, and it was quite flavorful. At one point, a kitchen staff was walking by and noticed me wiping my shirt, and he quoted the name of the mole which made me laugh. Service was really good. It has a very relaxed atmosphere. Tortillas seemed like they had been made in-house.

I cannot figure out something wrong to say about this place. The quality of the food is incredible, 100% local and tasty. The prices are more than reasonable. This place offers one of the best value for money. Service is excellent, decoration is lovely and artsy. I highly recommend it.

Pan con Madre is a renowned artisanal bakery in Oaxaca that introduced sourdough bread to the city. The aroma of freshly baked bread wafts through the air, drawing you into a bustling bakery where bakers work on various breads and pastries. Unique flavors like cardamom spirals, cheese and fig paste buns, dulce de leche rolls, and fresh focaccia are among their offerings.
Really lovely cafe with a beautiful outside space perfect for a relaxing breakfast. The apple strudel was absolutely phenomenal and also at a decent price. Servers were very kind and attentive, would definitely recommend if you are in Oaxaca. Strawberry and Rosemary water was also very nice.

This was a wonderful spot. Even though we had saved loads of restaurants before we visited Oaxaca, we had missed this one. But what a lovely treat it was to find. Lovely courtyard at the back, and yummy pastries and sandwiches. Our favourite was the prosciutto and apple sandwich - we ended up coming here a couple of times for it. Good coffee too!

Great cold brew, excellent pastries. The sandwich was good, but was small/didn’t have much filling. The guava and cheese pastry blew our minds and was our favorite. The service was great. Cute courtyard.

Very cool cafe in Oaxaca city - the pastry I had was decent but didn’t blow my mind. I did really like the coffee though - had quite a unique taste to it. If I went back I’d try the focaccia as that seems to be what they’re known for!
Sophie B — Google review
Incredible handmade pastries - they were making them in the kitchen as we ordered. The lamination of the pastries was perfection, the flat white was the correct volume (European style) and the little courtyard with seating was lovely and atmospheric. We are definitely returning tomorrow!

One of the more decent bakeries I've tried in Mexico. Yummy pastries and cakes. The cold brew with ice was also a welcome relief in the scorching heat. Courtyard was a relaxing place to spend a bit of time chatting with my friends. Paid 564 pesos for the cakes/pastries pictured and 4 iced drinks.
Hf1187 — Google review
Great pastries but very indifferent service. During our afternoon visit, there was still a good variety of pastries available. We ordered three to share, but the staff seemed indifferent and gave off the vibe that they didn’t want to be there. The cashier assumed we wanted the pastries for takeaway without asking, and when I mentioned we wanted to eat them there, the reaction wasn’t the friendliest, which was a real bummer considering how delicious the pastries were. The small chairs were quite uncomfortable, but they served their purpose while we enjoyed our pastries. It’s unfortunate that the service didn’t match the quality of the pastries, as it could have made for a much more enjoyable experience.

The focaccia here is delicious. My friend was in town visiting and we tried all three types and were blown away, but we especially loved the one with caramelized onion. Their veggie pizza is great - thin crust, flavorful sauce. Incredible bakery overall.

Very nice restaurant for vegetarians! Several options both for veg and non-veg. The food was really good! We also had very good drinks. The price and service were good as well. The ambient was very nice and beautiful, you have a terrace to stay as well. The only downside is that when our food came, there were too many flies around us. But I’d definitely come back to try more plates.

I am staying in sick and thought I’d order a bunch of stuff to feel good.. I’m from New York City and this place in some items are more expensive for size/quality, which is insane given they’re not paying close to the amount of rent as they do. The croissant w ham and cheese was old… the ginger shots had basically no ginger and just expensive shots of OJ…. the mix fruit w yogurt although having a good variety of fruit came with about 1.5 oz of yogurt and 5 chia seeds, no kidding. The only thing that was comparable to NYC priced and not more expensive… was the OJ and açai(which is about 13 usd$ as well).. coffee too if it wasn’t half split out… I can’t believe I spent 900mx for what I got. I get trying to make a few extra on tourists, but this felt like total robbery. The only place I felt this way in my 11 days here.

The best cocoa I ever had! But the ferrero cake, even though, very tasty, had nothing to do with ferrero, they should work on the name. I expected something crunchy with soft filling but this one is like a mix of a brownie and mousse.

There are a lot of things on the menu that should be gluten free, but they aren't and I don't know why. Why do the salads contain gluten? Why does literally everything contain gluten even though it looks safe? We were only able to choose from 3 or so of the menu items and none of them sounded good to us. I got the pizza verde and it was not good, although my mom thought her meal was fine. We also tried to get one of the gluten free desserts and they were out of it. Overall very disappointing and wouldn't come back.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Oaxaca, Restaurant Tierra del Sol offers a delightful dining experience that beautifully blends traditional and contemporary Oaxacan cuisine. With its charming terrace overlooking Santo Domingo, it's an ideal spot for enjoying meals at any time of day. Known for its farm-to-table approach, Tierra del Sol highlights indigenous ingredients while emphasizing sustainability and ethical practices in food sourcing. The restaurant is particularly famous for its Mole Negro—a rich sauce served with turkey that truly embodies the essence of Oaxacan flavors.
One of the very few Michelin Star restaurants I have been too. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I had the tasting which seems to change every month or so. As someone who is not a big fan of tomatoes, I was pleasantly impressed with the appetizer which contained multiple native tomato species from the Oaxaca area. The Maíz Blanco soup with pork in it was absolutely amazing. My only disappointment was that they were out of the other soups and I could not do a tasting. The Valentina cocktail was also amazing and a fun drink to order with the butter wash and beetroot topping. The ambience is also great as they have a large outdoor roof with a great view of the city. Would highly recommend!

Wow! An incredible food experience. I was a bit disappointed that we were ushered to an awaiting room at the time of our reservation. But…it ended up being an extra experience within this restaurant visit. In addition to the restaurant they have a bakery and a traditional beverage cafe. My husband tried the pulque and I had a glass of Oaxacan chocolate served cold. So forgiven. Next we were sat at the homemade tortilla ovens for a quick demonstration and sample the tortillas with four distinct salsas. A second surprise. I love surprises. Lastly up the stairs to the terrace for a full menu dinning experience. Our waiter DAVID was exceptional. We trusted his recommendations.

This restaurant is in a perfect location overlooking the entrance to the botanical gardens. The food really was very good - we tried the stuffed chili and the shank mole (nice and spicy). It was a great experience. I would have given 5*, but I was disappointed by the ridiculous size of my negroni. Without the icecube it would have hardly filled the bottom of the glass.
Jonathan C — Google review
Indeed, the menu could be a bit challenging since you just have the ingredients listed and not the description on how it would be prepared. However, the waitress was super kind and explained all the dishes that we were curious about. Food is delicious and great atmosphere. Would go there again for sure. We had the 3 moles de frijol and tamal chile relleno. Loved both!

5* for an overall great experience, service was truly fantastic here, operating at a very high level. Would recommend any one visiting Oaxaca to give this a try, just go in without expectations and you'll love the experience. We loved the 3 moles with fish, and the roasted pumpkin. Cocktails were fantastic too. Desserts could be better, the corn cake being a bit too dry and hard.
Nicholas P — Google review
We had some difficulty finding gluten free food in Oaxaca, but Tierra del Sol was a delight! We could have everything but one item on their menu, although I'm sure their menu changes seasonally. I was able to have my pick of moles (very unique because most moles we encountered had bread) and it was absolutely delicious. The tortilla and salsa experience at the beginning of our reservation was also wonderful. We ate on the terraza and it was lovely, although there were a handful of bugs. Just a small annoyance! Would come back!!
Kay W — Google review
MAKE TIME FOR THIS RESTAURANT! In the last 7 days, we have had lots of excellent food in Oaxaca, but today's meal was by far the best. I highly recommend the Chileatole and the Apple Mole. Simply devine. The waiters knew the food well and took time to explain the ingredients and foundations of each course. The cocktails and deserts were equally delicious, and the view is unmatched.
Julie L — Google review
There’s a lot to love about this place- it’s a beautiful seating, staff are warm, there’s a very clear philosophy underpinning everything. However there is definitely some room for improvement and we came away feeling the meal was a more style over substance. Service was a little chaotic- we had a very eloquent explanation of the restaurant from (presumably) the manager, but were then passed over to a few waiters who didn’t seem to be in communication with each other, meaning forgotten drinks, strange timings etc. The food was really inconsistent- my Huauzontle (pictured) was memorable and exciting, served with tortillas made on site and with a lot of thought and care, but my friends had some truly uninspiring quesadillas that really made me question the standards here. Everything was also *very* expensive relative to its quality and competing restaurants in the vicinity. Perhaps the brunch chefs and staff are just not up to the evening standard. I wouldn’t rush back unless there was an effort to bring the quality in line with the price.

Excellent food, real change from Mexican corn based meals! Great quality meat, burgers are small but very good and priced accordingly. Quick service and very fairly priced. Only slight downside is it isn’t very easy to know what beers are on tap at the (seemingly linked) brewery…I would want a description, ABV etc…

AMAZING food. Would recommend. The hot cocoa here is very well done with such a rich flavor. The eggs here are PERFECTLY done and they are not too hard and not undercooked so that it identifies as a piece of slime as I've found in some other places... this place makes you feel right at home but with better food.

Amazing burgers, very tasty. They are quite small, but for a fair price. You can try different variations to make you full. I especially loved the blue cheese option, but the bacon in the bacon burger was excellent. I also tried the craft beer and it was delicious as well. A little pricey, but worth it. The staff was friendly and the service was fast, even though the place was full. The interior is interesting, not exactly my cup of tea though. We had a table right next to an open window and the traffic outside was a little distracting.

If you're looking for an ice cream experience that's as cold as the service, this place is your dream come true. An unforgettable culinary experience! As a vegan of several years, visiting this vegan restaurant in Oaxaca was a delightful surprise that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the continuous and warm beauty of the place. The ambiance is simply charming, creating a cozy environment that invites you to relax and savor the food. The kindness of the people working there further enhances the experience. Juan, our server, was exquisite in his attention. I don't know who he is, but he clearly loves what he does, and his passion is reflected in every detail, from his recommendations to his willingness to explain each dish. In addition to offering an exceptional gastronomic experience, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this vegan restaurant is also a social project. It's inspiring to see how such a wonderful place not only cares about providing delicious vegan food but also positively contributes to the community. As for the food, I tried several dishes, but the chocolates and mezcals stood out especially. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was a work of art in itself. The creativity in combining ingredients and the quality of the products used truly showcased the chef's skill and the restaurant's commitment to offering the best. I highly recommend to all food lovers, vegans or not, to visit this place when in Oaxaca. Not only will you enjoy a unique culinary experience, but you will also contribute to a social project worth supporting. This restaurant has left a lasting impression on me, and I'm confident that anyone who visits will also be enchanted. A culinary gem in the heart of Oaxaca!

Unfortunately, we were not impressed. We‘re vegans and always looking for tasty options, but were quite disappointed in the tasteless food and small portions served. The drinks were delicious, but the food was just really not good - as if they didn‘t believe in vegan + healthy + packed with taste. We‘re quite sad about this since it looks like a cool place and project we‘d love to support, and the staff was also lovely.

Our mole cooking class with Victor was amazing! I loved how we got to go with him to the market, select ingredients and received so much information about each ingredient and historical context. Throughout the class he also did a great job engaging each participant and has us work together in a way that felt communal and not awkward when you meet new people/strangers. The class flowed so smoothly and casually that it felt like we were cooking at home in his own kitchen. I've taken many cooking classes before and they sometimes can feel rigid with instruction on how to cook "properly" but Victor created such a warm environment with instructions that allowed all of us to prep and cook in ways we felt comfortable with.

Chocolate shop
Rito Chocolatería & Tienda is a small Oaxacan chocolate store located near the Mercado Sanchez de Pascuas. It offers artisanal Oaxacan chocolate in traditional discs or bars, as well as chocolate tablets at different cacao percentages from 60% to 80%. The region's chocolate is primarily used in drinks and as a defining ingredient of Oaxacan cuisine, rather than for snacking.
The most delicious chocolate ice cream I've ever had 🤎 I love chocolate, but I've never been a huge fan of chocolate flavored ice cream. Turns out I just had never had a good one! It came served on the cutest cup, but you can also get a cone. It's a very deep chocolate flavor that's not overly sweet, and the cocoa nibs inside provide a nice crunch. Truly loved it. Bought some chocolate discs for making chocolate drinks at home and a bar with pataxtle pieces. Can't wait to try them!

Visited this place upon recommendation from a fellow traveller. I got a chocolate ice cream in a cup. It was yummy. I loved the super thick, creamy texture with cocoa nibs in it. It was mildly sweet and you could really taste the cocoa in it. It was so good that I returned the next day to try the ‘Ritacao’ smoothie - with red berries and cocoa. I enjoyed both but the ice cream was definitely a winner for me! Thank you for making such delicious ice cream. I will be returning when I visit Oaxaca again!
Naomi — Google review
The best chocolate experience in Oaxaca — no exaggeration. Their chocolate ice cream is a must have. It’s rich, dense, and almost brownie-like in texture. It tastes like pure, real cacao rather than something overly sweet. If you only have time for one chocolate shop in Oaxaca, make it this one.
Piggly W — Google review
Such a wonderful experience here - not just the hot chocolate which was so delicious but also talking with the owner, who gave detailed explanations of the type of cacao and mixes and how they make them. So refreshing to see someone so passionate about the work they do and it showed in the quality of the product! The ice cream was also heavenly.
Salman H — Google review
I bought an iced chocolate and a portion of chocolate ice-cream. The seller, like every good salesman, praised his products and said they're the best in Mexico, which, of course, I took with a grain of salt. The drink was nothing to write home about but that ice-cream was probably the best chocolate ice-cream I had in my life - rich in flavour and not overly sweet. The addition of cacao nibs creates a nice sensation to otherwise boring texture. Highly recommended.

Best Cacao drink and Ice cream. Went once and had to come back several times! Strongly recommended.

Go here and order the chocolate ice cream. It's so good, it has a potential to change your life. No exaggeration, this was the most chocolate chocolate ice cream I had in my life. Intense experience that you have to try. Trust me, you'll not regret.

Pan:Am is a renowned bakery and coffee shop in Oaxaca, offering a relaxed atmosphere and a covered terrace. Their menu features housemade artisanal bread, pastries, waffles, egg scrambles, omelettes, chilaquiles, and Mexican classics like huevos salseados. The bakery prides itself on baking fresh bread and pastries on-site using local farm eggs and veggies. Visitors rave about their hot horchata with cinnamon and chocolate de leche.
I stopped at the cafe and work on my pc. I remember wifi was slow so I didn’t stay long but the staff was very kind. I like it.

We really enjoyed the Chilaquiles de Leña. We came back here twice. The vibe/atmosphere is super chilled and relaxed. There’s no WiFi. But tbh it’s fine for a breakfast spot - it’s not the kind of place to cowork with a laptop or take a video meeting from.
Safwaan M — Google review
It's a good food service! Their food is really delicious, I would go again. The place is clean, not too noisy, definitely
Andrea — Google review
Incredible food and they open early, breakfast is fantastic. The Enchiladas Suizas and Farmhouse Omelette are both delicious; everything that came out to the tables nearby looked equally exceptional. Big portions. Don’t leave without adding a side of Guacamole and a Chocolate de Agua. If you’re traveling with kids, this place is very family friendly in every way — waffles with Agave syrup, fresh seasonal fruit, omelettes which can be adjusted for kids’ palette, fresh juices. Beautiful place, relaxed vibe, really delicious food. Highly recommend visiting this place at the start of your Oaxaca trip as you may want to return for many more breakfasts! NB: bring cash, they don’t accept cards every day.

PAN:AM is a Must for breakfast in Oaxaca city. The bread is baked flawlessly. So delicious. The menu is excellent. The chilaquiles were a little crunchy how I like them and saucy. My cappuccino was delicious. No complaints about the service. Just be sure to get there early as they get really busy. Excellent place to start your day.
Daniela B — Google review
I recently dined at PAN:AM and, unfortunately, my experience was far from enjoyable. The service was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We had to wait far too long for our food, and even more frustratingly, to settle our bill. When our coffees finally arrived, they were cold, and the servers didn’t seem concerned or willing to make it right. The staff lacked friendliness and weren’t accommodating when we expressed our dissatisfaction. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed customers. While the restaurant’s ambiance may have been inviting, the overall service left much to be desired. I won’t be returning anytime soon, and I would hesitate to recommend PAN:AM to others.
Adriana G — Google review
Really don't know why this place is so highly reviewed. It's nothing special. My americano was way too bitter--I actually couldn't drink it. I ordered a Croque Madame which was pretty awful. The menu seems like over priced junk food. I would recommend eating at the many markets instead of this place. I'm sad I wasted a good meal in Oaxaca!

Sagrado Filemón I Pan y Café is a newly opened establishment in Oaxaca, offering a unique destination for coffee enthusiasts. Founded by David Garcia and head roaster Valeria Pantoja, it focuses on showcasing Oaxacan coffees sourced from local producers. The café's interior features painted tiles leading to the espresso bar and an inviting rooftop space.
One of my favourite food + coffee spots in town! There is a little rooftop area that’s quite relaxing which we loved (requires going up some narrow stairs but we somehow managed with a baby and stroller🤣). Their Mocha was absolutely incredible, so rich and creamy! Their staff are genuine and nice. Their Chicken & Waffles and Barbacoa Sandwich were soooo delicious! We’ll definitely be back :)
Maria G — Google review
Excellent breakfast spot. I tried the French toast and it was amazing. Unlike anything I've ever had before. The pan was excellent as well and they had a great selection of beverages (coffee, beer, cold brew drinks).
Tamara H — Google review
Stumbled on this spot while wandering the city, and wow, hands down one of the best breakfasts we've had in Oaxaca. The waffles were perfectly crunchy with a rich, buttery flavor and the cold brew with guava was such a refreshing twist. We also tried the avocado and egg sandwich, and the eggs were insanely fluffy and creamy. Wish we’d found this place earlier in the trip. 10/10, highly recommend.
Ariel L — Google review
Sagrado Filemón ranks among the top three breakfast / brunch experiences of my life. It’s a quaint, relaxed rooftop. We ordered the pan cacao (flakey bread pastry with a coffee cream and topped with cacao nibs), the guava cream filled pastry, the breakfast pizza topped with eggs, the arroz con leche with fruit, and the savory churro breakfast sandwich - for two people. We were stuffed for the rest of the day, but not one regret. Order anything - you can’t go wrong.

Still exploring all the cafes but this is the best coffee I’ve found in Oaxaca as of writing this review. Didn’t get to try the food but they do offer a solid selection of food options. Service was okay. Seating is limited. You can work here although the WiFi was not working when we were there.
Ambrose — Google review
I came here specifically for their guava cold brew since it sounded so delicious to me, I’m a sucker for everything guava. It’s definitely a strong cold brew with a tart flavor, you couldn’t go wrong with it. Strong yet sweet. The vibes were so beautiful and whoever chose the playlist for this cafe ,keep doing it :D. Such a romantic playlist

If you're in Oaxaca, you can't miss this restaurant. I had one of the best brunches I've ever had in my life at Sagrado Filemon. I got the Panqueques Salados and my fiance got the Pizzayuno. The gravy on the pancakes was mind-blowing. To drink, I got the Ayer at the staff's recommendation and was not disappointed. It was extremely refreshing and unexpected. My fiance got the Guave Brew, which was also delicious. We sat on the patio which was a lovely experience.

What a fun, delicious way to get away from the heat. Generous proportions and distinctly Oaxacan flavors. A great dessert to wrap up a meal or cool off.

Mezcal Popsicles are great! This is a very tiny place with a Hip, modern vibe. Fresh fruit favors make the popsicles very refreshing. But I had never heard of a Chamoyada before. . It was a very interesting friut ice with salt, chili pepper and little candies like gummy bears in it. I found my taste buds kept looking for the friut ice and being over powered by the chili and salt. If you are looking for a refreshing treat,go for the popsicles, however if you want a bit of a wild ride into Mexican treats try the Chamoyada.

A nice, refreshing treat for hot Oaxacan days. They offer flavored ice (nieves) and popsicles (paletas) with mezcal. They have savory and sweet toppings for the flavored ice and a lot of flavor options for the popsicles. It was very refreshing but I think I will stick to the popsicles. The chili and salt flavors of the frozen ice were too strange for me.

Not really into their chocolate. The box I bought had small pieces of sugar in the chocolate and it's not really that amazing. Also tried the chocolate with water and also not great in my opinion. The one with milk was better. Might be overrated, unfortunately.

This was not a pleasant experience. We bought hot chocolate and wanted to sit at the table. The waiter came and usher us to a place that looked like a storage room and told us that we cannot sit at the tables as we bought chocolate to go. There was not any information indicating that we cannot sit at the table with to-go-chocolate. The place was empty so I think placing us to a storage room was unnecessary. Will not come back.

Terrible attitude of the young lady selling the chocolate bars and powered today 4 November 2025. I have been in Oaxaca for 5 days. Out of those I have come 3 here only to discover today that one of the workers, Yulisa, a tall one, deceived my friends and I yesterday with the price of the ice cream charging us more. Karen on the other hand was excellent and showed beautiful attitude.

Rolled ice cream (not especially creamy or flavirful) with the flavor(s) you choose. Then they add a cookie stick, whipped cream, and a cherry. On top of all that, you can add any sauce, toppings, crunchies and candies from a multitude of choices from a side bar. Not cheap, but you can add all you want to get your money's worth. LOL. I search for the perfect mocha like Agent Cooper searches for the perfect cherry pie. Panaderia Yalalag gets it about as close as possible. So cutesy! We were in and out in a jiffy. Cute little place tucked into the streets of Oaxaca, and there's actually a restaurant above it that we went to later. I also loved the decor as soon as we stepped in. I ordered a rollo de chocolate and my friends ordered the same thing and a box of cookies. The cookies were pretty good! The rollo was a tad dry but otherwise pretty good. The service was friendly and patient with explaining to us how to say each item in Spanish.

I expected a way better tiramisu, and had way better ones in other places in Oaxaca, esp for that price. The coffee and attitude was good though.

(Translated by Google) It is a pastry shop that also has coffee service. The place is very comfortable and its decoration is beautiful. The attention of the ladies is fast and friendly. I ordered a lemon cake which was very soft and moist enough. The flavor is excellent, showing that they use very high quality ingredients. I also ordered an American coffee with a good body and aroma, without acidity or other alterations. I really liked staying to enjoy my slice, I will definitely return now to try other cakes that look very good. The price is a little high, but it is totally justified by the quality of the products.

(Translated by Google) I've been buying products here for years. The lemon cake is delicious, as is the truffle cake. I'm giving it 4 stars only because I'm sad they don't make the berry tart they used to make anymore. It came with Italian meringue and lots of whole fruit, and it was my favorite.

This is the authentic Oaxaca culture people talk about. We went for a making and tasting tour and from roasting the cacao beans to learning about the cultural importance and history of chocolate, to making our own bars, was absolutely delightful. With only a few days in Oaxaca, we are so glad we chose this guided tour to better appreciate the place and people and stories of Oaxaca.
Megan M — Google review
This was a really cool experience to get to learn more about artesanal chocolate and how to make it. You make your own bars from toasting to taking it out of the mold! Edi was really knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Thank you!
Emiley A — Google review
If you like supporting a small, local business that excels in their craft, this experience is for you! I have taken a cooking class as well as the chocolate making & tasting class. Both were excellent and a lot of fun. Both in the cooking class and the bean to bar class, local ingredients as used, thus providing income for local farmers and businesses. I highly recommend both classes! And, Edi’s English is excellent! When you finish the chocolate making class, ask Edi to give you directions to his friends restaurant. It has excellent food & service with very reasonable prices. And, don’t miss the Atzompa Mercado de Artesanías!
Sandy F — Google review
On of the highlights of our trip! My family and I had such a lovely time with Eddie and his family learning about the history and production of chocolate in Oaxaca. We made delicious bean to bar chocolate and then tasted so many others! Highly recommend!
Sonali P — Google review
What a wonderful experience! We were so impressed with this beautiful chocolateria, the delicious samples we shared (even the delicious chocolate beer!) But even more importantly, understanding how chocolate is made- from bean to bar- , the history of cacao and seeing artisanal chocolate made first hand with master chocolatero Edi! A must if you're visiting Oaxaca!
Susan S — Google review
My family and I had a wonderful experience learning how to make the most delicious Oaxacan chocolate. The family that runs this business is so kind and their children are beautiful — made the experience extra fun for my children too. On top of all of that, we left with armfuls of chocolate to remember out beautiful day at La Auténtica Chocolateria. This is a can’t-miss experience for anybody visiting Oaxaca!
Erika L — Google review
A very educational and hands-on experience learning about cacao and making chocolate. The owners were welcoming, generous and passionate about their craft. The organization itself focuses on sustainable and ethical sourcing which is amazing. The chocolate products are delicious. I absolutely recommend visiting and partaking in the experiences offered here. Make your reservations in advance, the owners are quick to respond and helpful to answer any questions you may have.
Maximas G — Google review
Expected to only be decorating a chocolate bar but they really put us to work! Was very interesting and exciting to see the entire process from roasting and peeling the beans to grinding the cacao and adding the amount of sugar you prefer. The tasting was cool, but could have been a bit more hygienic by giving everyone they’re own plate instead of having to share.

Flor Cacao is a charming spot with excellent Wi-Fi and friendly staff. While the music selection may not be everyone's cup of tea, the delicious chocolate frio and seasonal desserts make up for it. The cakes and caco are particularly delightful, making it a highly recommended destination for those with a sweet tooth.
We had really nice hot chocolate and the tartes were also delicious! Really enjoyed our time.

Wonderful little spot! Ice cream, chocolate drinks, coffee, bonbons, delicious little tarts, kombucha. A beautiful shaded courtyard, nice music, and friendly staff! We loved spending an afternoon here working on our laptops. And, for any gringos about to ask, the water and ice are all safe to drinks ;)
Linda W — Google review
A really nice cafe for hot chocolate, chocolate drinks, ice cream, pastries, cookies and cakes. Everything is made in house even the chocolate from cacao beans. The cafe is inside a courtyard so it is not visible from the street, but has a sign along with other businesses. The staff is friendly and helpful. They speak English if you need more explanation or assistance. They have indoor and outdoor courtyard seating. We really liked our high-quality drinks and desserts: Chocolate brownie with homemade mint ice cream, a variety of cookies, and a coffee milkshake, hot chocolate and ice chocolate. Definitely a great place and close to the pre-hispanic museum.
JMQZ — Google review
Iced chocolate was not bad but I think the hot one would be better. Nice that they have different cocoa concentration to choose from. They sell artisanal chocolates and macaron as well.

Delicious hot chocolate de agua. I also tried the Mezcal bonbon and gluten free chocolate cookie which both exceeded my expectations. It is located just off a little courtyard with a few outdoor but covered tables; ideal for escaping a cloud burst. I would definitely recommend this place.

Honchos - Casa de churros is a popular spot in CDMX known for serving some of the best churros in town. Visitors rave about the freshly made, thick, fluffy, and crispy churros that are served with delicious accompaniments like chocolate de agua, strawberry sauce, ice cream, and more. The friendly staff and English-speaking service add to the pleasant experience.
Good place to have freshly made churros. Worth the walk from the downtown area. Plus it's nice around here, much better than Downtown with many restaurants and shopping areas.

Inoffensive churros, but not worth the journey out of the centre of town. The churros and dips tasted good but the texture was very hard - like they had been overcooked. The staff were helpful and the service was fast. Reasonably priced

The churros here are amazing. Freshly made and so good. And the sauces are superb. The choco Oaxaca is especially good, it is thick and chocolatey, not syrupy and sugary like most places

Delicious churros. I ordered a Frozen Churro with strawberry sauce. It was excellent. The churros were hot and fresh, the strawberry sauce was warm, and the ice cream was deliciously cold.
Chae B — Google review
Ordered regular churros for delivery with "Oaxaca chocolate" sauce. The churros were over fryed and almost tasted burned. The chocolate was Hershey's chocolate syrup. Worst churros ever 🙊 I also felt very nauseous 20 minutes after eating just one of these. My suspicion is that they do not clean/change the deep fryer oil.
