Paisley Abbey, a 12th-century Catholic abbey and burial place of Scottish royalty, has a rich history dating back to its founding as a Cluniac monastery within a 6th century Celtic church. The abbey is known for its connection to Scottish knight William Wallace and its role in the Wars of Scottish Independence. It was also the site where Robert the Bruce's sister passed away after an accident, leading to the birth of King Robert the Bruce II.
Paisley Abbey is a stunning building, rich in incredible history. The architecture is breathtaking, and the sense of heritage is evident as you explore the space. What made the visit even more special was the team of volunteers. They are so knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming! They brought the history to life with fascinating stories and insights. It's well worth a visit, whether you're a history buff or just passing through.

I visited this wonderful place during the week . Free to get in nice tea room and made welcome , I haven't been to paisley for decades , and that was to see Killie play st mirren . Apart from the abbey, there wasn't much else to see in paisley and I tried . The museum was shut and Like most towns and cities in the UK , their glory days are in the past . Sad

Paisley, Abbey is a must see if you’re into seeing old churches and Abbeys. It’s a little out of town but well worth the trip. The exterior and interior are spectacular and is awe inspiring as any I’ve seen, having additions and rebuilds. And it is not overrun with tourists. I took the guided tour which was wonderful because nobody else showed up but me, the guide was a wealth of information and a delight to speak with and informed me that they wish they had more visitors. They have a little coffee and souvenir shop. Take some time and visit this wonderful old Abbey.

We loved it. We went to see the Barochan Cross but there is so much wonderful history. Paisley Abbey is a historic parish church of the Church of Scotland, located on the east bank of the White Cart Water in the center of Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland—about 7 miles (11 km) west of Glasgow. Recognized as the “cradle of the Royal House of Stewart,” it blends Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Established around 1163 by Walter FitzAlan, the first High Steward of Scotland, as a Cluniac priory on the site of a 6th-century Celtic church founded by St. Mirin. Under royal patronage, the abbey grew wealthy through trade with European centers. It was a center of learning; Scottish hero William Wallace is believed to have been educated there in the late 13th century. There are several royal burials in the church, including Robert III. The staff are wonderful. They were patient in detailing the above history and pointing out interesting highlights, including the alien gargoyle on the upper tier. Highly recommended.

An excellent and beautiful abbey right in the heart of Paisley! A great design which certainly catches the eye. There is so much history here, dating back about a millennium. Battles between the Scots and Anglos with Edward Longshanks and Bruce, Stuart Houses. It has saw fires, the war, and much more. I recommend coming here. There are plenty of places to sit, have a rest in the shade. Wonderful place.
Travis W — Google review
“This is a place where the glory of God and the love of people come together. The spiritual atmosphere of the Abbey brings deep peace to the heart, and the brothers and sisters in Christ welcome you with open arms and loving hearts. ‘Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves.’ (Romans 12:10)”
Matthew D — Google review
I recently visited Paisley Abbey and was really impressed. The renovation work has made the place look amazing while still keeping its old charm. You can see how much care has gone into restoring and maintaining the Abbey. The staff were kind and shared interesting stories about its history and the recent repairs. The place feels peaceful and full of character. It’s also easy to reach with parking nearby and shops and cafés around. If you’re in Paisley, I’d highly recommend stopping by, it’s a lovely mix of history, beauty, and calm.

Make sure you book onto a guided tour; we had a very knowledgeable young lad who spent an hour and a half with us, telling us so many interesting facts. With his laser pointer he was able to highlight points in stained glass windows or high up on walls or the ceiling. What a fascinating place, so much history and the way it fits into the bigger picture of Scotland is very important.

Reopening on April 1st, Sma' Shot Cottages invites you to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Paisley's textile heritage. This charming destination offers a glimpse into the lives of 18th-century weaving families, showcasing original looms and period furnishings that transport you back in time. As you explore the cottages, you'll encounter passionate volunteers eager to share captivating stories about local history.
My wife’s family lived here back in the 1700-1800’s and were weavers. The historical society has done a great job preserving what life was like. Wonderful historical site that is free to enter. Knowledgeable volunteers there to show you all around. Thank you for helping us get a feel for life during a very difficult and trying time. Actual looms shows the process of making tartan cloth! Make sure you stay for some tea and scones after your tour!

Absolutely fantastic wee place to visit! Really interesting building shining a light on paisleys (and Scottish) family lives, religion, work, industry and leisure in the 18 century. Volunteers are brilliant and engaging! Lovely cafe and gift shop. Very worth it. Flexible open hours, just contact them to visit, even in wintertime. This place is kept by the old Paisley society so it’s definitely important to support these historic buildings being kept afloat by small groups and charities.

A beautiful experience visiting the cottages! The volunteers were so helpful and knowledgeable! There was so much kindness in the air and the small details were so beautiful! I would definitely recommend!

Sma'Shot Cattages is a small gem of Paisley history. Run by very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and dedicated volunteers, I was very happy we visited. I look forward to my return visit.

From a small 2 bedroom family cottage, home to 13. (11 children) grew Coats Patons company, the largest supplier of cotton thread in the world.

As soon as we walked in the door we were met by a lovely volunteer who proceeded to spend 45 minutes with us sharing the history of weaving in Paisley and her own history of growing up in Scotland. The cottage is full of historical items.

Great wee day out! A tour of the Cottages as they were back in day ,it's free and very informative the tour guides are just great. Plas at the end of the tour you can go into the tea room and have teas and coffees and loads of home baking

Attended the halloween experience at sma shot cottage tonight with a group of 3 and i had to leave a review, we were absolutley blown out the water with this evening! The effort put into organising and acting the evening out was top quality! A personalised night at a private theatre! Great to have the awkward, creepy and intense moments and the added history element was really refreshing! Having been to a few jump scare and halloween history events over the last few years, this definatley ranks at number 1, and to support a good cause for a small ticket price i will definatley go again! Complete in my Greenday hoodie Thankyou very much! _ if your looking to go, just do it! There will be no dissapointment!

Country park
Nestled just a short drive from the bustling town of Paisley, Gleniffer Braes Country Park offers a serene escape into nature. This picturesque woodland area is teeming with wildlife, including various Scottish birds and even shy roe deer. As you wander along its well-maintained hiking paths, you'll encounter charming streams and stunning lookout points that provide breathtaking views of Paisley, Glasgow, and the surrounding mountains. The park's vibrant grasslands are adorned with colorful wildflowers that add to its natural beauty.
Great dry day out on a budget. Lovely walk and lots to see. There are also free roam cattle with their young, so I suggest keeping dogs on a leash in certain areas. There are waterfalls and fun little bridges to cross. Had a great time and got amazing photographs of the Highland Cows.
Libby S — Google review
Nice walk offering easy walks alongside more challenging steeper routes. Plenty to see, do and explore including a waterfall, ponds and plenty of wildlife... we saw a toad yesterday.
Christopher K — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking views and a really enjoyable hike. The scenery was spectacular from start to finish - I could've stayed up there for hours if it weren’t for the scorching heat! I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Scotland, especially when I’m around Glasgow. Highly recommend for anyone who loves nature and stunning landscapes.
Benny G — Google review
Beautiful escape from the city! Easily accessible by car with numerous parking spaces, some small, some larger. Gorgeous views of Paisley, Glasgow, and the mountains. The terrain is not challenging and is suitable for young children. Most of the areas are not wheelchair accessible but the view point has a parking lot, so it's a very good spot for people who would struggle walking long distances.
Aylin — Google review
This place is a tranquil paradise with beautiful walks and a stunning waterfall. A must see for anyone who wants to stroll through nature. Utter bliss 💜
Jen D — Google review
This is a great place to go walking, either on your own, with the kids, or with the dog. On a clear day, the views and scenery are fantastic!! There is a small playpark, picnic benches, and benches located in various areas throughout. There is also a good-sized car park. Can easily spend a couple of hours here. Highly recommend.
Margaret J — Google review
Great views and good for walking the dog. Could be lots better though. Would be great if there was somewhere to buy a snack or cup of tea/coffee/soup, etc'. Also, could be doing with a Cable Car lifting you to and fro the area for those who can't drive, or, for the more adventurous – a Deathslide. Just a thought.

Place is away from city center of Paisley. Lovely trail you can do. Nature at its best. Dog friendly but expect mud in trail. Parking space constraint is there. But 11 cars can be accommodated. View of city is great on a sunny day.

Nestled in the heart of Paisley, the Paisley Museum & Art Gallery is a stunning Victorian edifice that serves as a treasure trove of history and culture. Opened in 1871, this museum boasts one of Scotland's largest municipal art collections, featuring over 800 paintings that highlight the talents of Scottish artists from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
On 8/04/2024 on our 24th anniversary; I booked the Ultimate Experience Tour, which is 3 hrs long and our tour guide Tommy was phenomenal, funny, professional, and very informative. We are big Prince's fans and I'm so thankful to have finally made the trip. It's worth it.

Lovely old museum and its free... parked very cheaply opposite it on the street...things for kids to do... but its shutting soon for huge refurbishment hope they keep the original building....its beautiful
Jo — Google review
Visited for the Star Wars toy exhibitions with the family. A bit disappointed that they decided not to allow photos in the main exhibition but it was quite interesting. The kids loved the observatory and we will return one evening to see it in action. There is a side entrance for wheelchair and buggy access that enters from the car park that we missed on the way in. Lots of stairs but lifts around to make things accessible
Aidan B — Google review
Lovely little museum. Just enough to look at, from dinosaur foot prints to a mummified child!! A good amount about Paisley's history too. Pram and wheelchair access is up the ramp at the side you just press the bell and once inside there is a lift to get up to the main floor.
Thomas D — Google review
Bit of a dated display. Not particularly good at illustrating the history of the town. A chronological approach would be better instead of having it all mixed in with taxidermy and Egyptian artifacts. Paisley Artist's Exhibition is generally good, but with the usual amount of tat. So much kept in storage and never displayed (especially some of the Victorian paintings), but this has recently all been moved to the High St. Regardless, still love the place and hope the council is sensible in its redevelopment.
Cameron S — Google review
Remember the model you could see about 7 years ago of what would open in 2021. COVID isn't an excuse when nothing has changed since it was a building site in 2016. No doubt the companies involved still get paid by Renfrewshire Council. On the plus side the workies are friendly enough to pass a joint around when you're passing by. Because passing by is all you'll do for another 5 years
Mc — Google review
Great to see local history but not very disabled friendly if you don't have a wheelchair. No parking either, however if you give advance notice they state they will try to accommodate. No use if going there ad hoc though , but advised when it gets upgraded.
Kirsty — Google review
Wonderful museum that will appeal both the the natural scientist and art aficionado. Make sure that you are there during the 11am to 1pm time frame to hear the organ recital, it's not to be missed. Protip: Make sure you find the Impressionist gallery, it's subtly labeled "French" and has some wonderful pieces that you wouldn't expect to find.

Observatories & Planetariums
Nestled in Oakshaw Street West, Coats Observatory is Scotland's oldest public astronomical observatory, established in 1883. The three-story tower boasts a nearly 20-meter height and a distinctive copper-plated domed ceiling housing the telescope. Visitors can admire intricate stone carvings and decorative ironwork throughout the building. Inside, guests are treated to captivating displays of celestial wonders, including stunning photographs of nebulas and planets.
I did this years ago. I saw Saturn in full with her rings. It is a vision I still have to this day. Thinking of taking my wife when it opens, it's magnificen, and she wants to see for herself.
Harry R — Google review
Thomas Coats built this observatory after some citizens professed an interest in astronomy, a man whose philanthropy was famed, his thread mills making him and his brothers the Bill Gates of their time. The observatory is still in working order and open to the public, although now superceded by significantly more powerful telescopes. The mills that provided the wealth for this project closed in the 80s, but like this building still stand albeit with a different use as living memorials to this man and the company he founded. Coats the company? They have a small presence in Paisley only despite being a billion pound company, but without history what are we?
Alan W — Google review
Amazing building constructed for this specific purpose of supporting 4 tons of telescope. Closes this month for 2 year refurbishment so great opportunity to see it again. Knowledgeable and helpful staff on hand to explain purpose and working
Walter P — Google review
Despite it's clear under funding the by the council, the observatory has been a place of wonderment for me since childhood. The staff are very knowledgeable and thee are a few gems to behold once there, including the Coates telescope which is well over 100 years old, and is still in use today. Well worth a visit if you are in town...
Külf A — Google review
It's a good place to visit. You need to go through the museum to gain access to the building. It's free to visit. If you have mobility issue's it's stair all the way up to the top. The video presentation was good.
Our C — Google review
This could be OK if only they would actually clean things up a bit (the place is very tatty) and know something of what they are talking about. Maybe it was a bad day but when I visited the guide's talk consisted quite literally of "This is a telescope. It was made in 1880 at the same time the building was built. Any questions". She quite literally knew nothing of her subject. Obviously there is a limit to how much a tiny provincial museum like this can manage but they have an observatory, albeit a tiny one. They have a planetarium (not in use when I visited and similarly tiny) a film presentation and a building to show it all in. So there is no excuse for then locking the building up only to have it unlocked by someone who knows nothing and apparently has no interest in let alone enthusiasm for the subject. One of the rare occasions when it is people at such an exhibition that let it down. Even with their limited resource they have enough to inspire and educate and they failed to do either.
J B — Google review
Wanted to do this for years. Well worth the wait. Looked at the moon felt as if you could reach out and touch it.

Great venue for a music gig, the way it should always be, close and personal, the bar pricing is such a let down, venue organisers should have a rethink, consumers and gig'goers don't like being ripped off 👎🏻👎🏻

Lovely building, drink choice is really bad and a total rip off. The wine is horrible 🤢 the spice rum which anywhere else would normally be Morgans but unfortunately it was Bacardi spice which had a really strong vanilla taste (not a fan) had an non alcoholic beer (staropramen) a bit like earwax! What the hell townhall! We have a great distillery in town, buy local!! Have been to a few shows now, The latest being Ed Byrne which was fab! Staff are always great. The drink totally let's the place down.

Lovely Cathedral with loads of great past history and designs. However distance between seats not nearly enough. Son in law is 6'5" and was very uncomfortable sitting, kneeling was impossible. Barshaw Park, established in 1912, is a vast 55-acre park offering a wide range of activities. Visitors can enjoy sailing on the pond, cycling along the trails, and exploring the model railway. The park also features a walled garden and a municipal golf course. It's an ideal place to relax on benches while taking in the scenic views of Paisley's landscape or making use of the outdoor gym. Additionally, there are play areas for children and an onsite cafe.
Lovely park to visit, free to enter and to explore. Great to walk around & even you can bring a remote control yacht and sail it on the lake. This place is exceptionally good if you have a sunny day and looking somewhere to go. It's 15 mins walk from the nearest rail station

Great local park. Good for kids play area, sailing yachts in pond, walled peace garden. Cafe sit in, takeaway. Easy parking. Popular with dog walkers. Even a dinky train ride in summer
Kokotxas — Google review
Beautiful park with a play ground, outdoor gym, a pond with ducks and swans, a cute little train (£1.5 pp), lots of greenery and benches. Perfect for a picnic on a nice sunny weather.
Nida S — Google review
The park is in dire need of some TLC. Visited Saturday 13th July 24. The bins were overflowing. Members of the public were doing litter picking. Good playparks for toddlers and older children too. There is also a part for wheelchair using children to join in which I think is fantastic
James G — Google review
First time visiting with the dog, driven past a million times. Parked on main road but worked out there is a car park or two. Wonderful kids play area, was rather disappointed I am an adult now and would not fit down the slide. Looks fab for kids! The pond area was nice. Full of mute swans and i was lucky enough to see some guys enjoying sailing small boats on the water. Plenty of grassy area to walk around. Met some nice people and dogs. Would say the area is well maintained. Bins available and saw worker collecting rubbish around park.
Fiona “ — Google review
This park is great! It has something for everyone and is big enough that even when it's busy, everyone still has space. The park is clean and has a nice pond too. There's toilets, a cafe and a carpark on site.

A lovely park with good parking access, a cafe and ice cream vendor. The pond is a good size and few circuits give a good workout, there is a peace garden run by volunteers that is quiet and provides a nice place to sit and enjoy the fresh air in peace and quiet. Another nice afternoon circling the pond and sitting in the sun. The Swans and ducks seemed to be having a good time with lots of people feeding them.

One of the first parks that we visited as a family after arriving in the UK and i have to say, it is beautiful! This is a vast open space with a small hill-like climb, a cycling area, a small pond with swans, a children's play area and an amazing walkway! We loved it and would recommend everyone to visit this beautiful place to just take a stroll and let your kids enjoy fresh air.

The Paisley Thread Mill Museum is a small but very interesting museum with a rich history of thread making. The museum is still in the process of being fully opened and staffed, but hopes to be soon. The cafe inside the museum is mediocre, but the coffee is not bad at all. Overall, this is an excellent place to visit if you're interested in thread making or Paisley's rich history.
I had an incredible time in this museum, it’s just 29 minutes away from Glasgow using the train less than €4 (round trip). I got lots of info over there, they have amazing pieces and a tiny souvenir store with clever things and not expensive at all. It’s free also.

We were given a very thorough tour by a lovely lady. The showcases cover more than just textile-related history and extend to broader local history. They're a interesting glimpse in those times, thanks to the ongoing commentary. There are also some lovely souvenirs to be purchased (cash only).

Good points are that this is keeping alive one of the major contributions to Paisley's existence. Not really big enough space and lacking in substance but at least it's still alive! Only open Wednesdays during October to March and then only opened Wednesdays and Saturdays the rest of the year. Wouldn't go just to see the museum but if your in the area on the correct day, why not go along?

Memoria Paisley Woodside Cemetery and Crematorium is a serene resting place with a rich history dating back to the 1800s. It offers a peaceful and beautiful setting for quiet strolls, providing visitors with an opportunity to learn about the stories of those laid to rest there. The cemetery features old memorials and well-kept surroundings, making it an ideal spot for a tranquil walk any time of the year.
Great place for a nice and quiet walk on a summer evening. Edit: Been living close by since 2018, and only recently started going here for some evening walks and to enjoy some naturesque views. The cemetary has old memorials dating back to 1800s, which is fascinating to me. The coats family is buried here, they are known for establishing the oldest thread company in the world the "Coats Group" There is a memorial garden which is lovely, it has a lot of botanics planted there which give it a relaxing atmosphere if you want to sit down and remember your loved ones. There are many squirels so you can bring some nuts to feed them (thats what I do haha) There is also a crematorim at the very top of the hill which is operational every day. Overall, it's a quiet little gem in Paisley that is a well-preserved historical environment, as well as a lovely park.

Specialty Museums
Glasgow Museums Resource Centre, located in Glasgow, Scotland, is home to the Open Museum, a unique community museum that aims to make museum collections accessible beyond traditional museum settings. It is part of a network of ten museums under Glasgow Museums. Despite this extensive network, only 2% of Glasgow's public museum collection is currently on display, with the majority housed at the Resource Centre in Nitshill.
It's one of the best tours i have been on. You must prebook a tour using email, but the tours are free, and there are many to choose from. I booked a general tour to see what the museum storage facility was like and believe me i was not disappointed.
Travel G — Google review
This is an amazing tour run by the hardworking folks who run the back-end of the city museums. You get to see first-hand many of the artifacts that populate the many museums throughout the city. If you have a specific area of interest, you can contact the resource center and there are tours of specific areas that occur regularly. The general tour just briefly touches on a few subject areas, but even so it is very much worth it. The staff were very knowledgeable and told some great stories. Highly recommended!

Absolute treat. Visited on an hour long tour. Saw various pods with items in. Armour. Vehicles. Egyptian items. World Culture, etc. Fascinating and the guide is very knowledgeable. Specialist tours are available throughout the year. And you can book and request to see certain items. A hidden Glasgow gem.

I was astonished by the GMRC. Glasgow stores more than it exhibits. An artist friend of mine was keen to view Ken Currie paintings not on display at the People's Palace. We viewed them on a general tour. However, if we had booked far enough in advance, we were told we could view almost anything we wished to. But, as we booked on the day, we saw several unexpected exhibits Not on exhibition. Eg a zoo's worth of stuffed animals, armour, William Burrell's home's wall fittings, and much more. All in 1 hour. The guides were fab. An additional Glasgow museum could easily be founded exhibiting the items in store. A fine, splendid afternoon.

I joined the Behind the Scenes Tour and really enjoyed it. Booking was a bit tricky as my email wasn’t answered, but calling worked fine. The tour itself felt flexible and interactive, without a fixed route. It was great to see objects you wouldn’t usually find on display. Overall a good experience.

Had not heard of the tours of the GMRC until I stumbled across a link online so booked onto a tour. Had Grant as our guide who took us through a few rooms of paintings, fossils and taxidermy and he had a great knowledge of the different items he was showing us. We were asked at the start if there was anything in particular we wanted to see but as we didn't know what was on offer we were happy to be shown anything. So if you do have a specific interest in something, you'll be able to request that room ☺️. All in all, it was a very interesting afternoon, something different and I will book back up again to look at some other rooms.
GSX J — Google review
Miss the old transport museum? The smell and stuff you remember is all here. Particular taxidermy animal from childhood no longer at Kelvingrove? Favourite painting gone from the People's Palace? Ask the guide at the start of your tour or email beforehand and they'll show it to you if they can. Went on the behind the scenes tour, was excellent, very informative. A true hidden gem, tours must be booked beforehand but they are free. Will tailor the tour to your interests if you say at the start. Amazing place, extremely knowledgeable guides, will definitely visit again.

The GMRC - Glasgow Museum Resource Centre is where 98% of the treasures that are shown in the main museums in and around Glasgow are held before they go on show. It's an amazing place, the guy taking the tour was such a cool and friendly dude too. I had a wonderful time there, it felt like a real privilege to get a behind the scenes tour of the place and see all the amazing treasures, especially the art, the guide pulled out a big rack with Titian's and Bottichelli' originals, mind blown! Not to mention the ancient Egyptian and Roman wonders. Being so close to such priceless wonders in such an unlikely and private setting was amazing. Obviously the security is unreal there but that's to be expected. I can't recommend a visit enough :);

Crookston Castle, a ruined fortress from the 1600s, features a central tower and four square corner towers offering panoramic views of the city. It is Glasgow's sole surviving medieval castle with distinct features like its northeast tower. Originally built as a fortification in the late 1100s by Sir Robert de Croc, it played a role in the struggle for control over Mary, Queen of Scots.
Absolutely beautiful ruin. I could climb right to the top on very solid secure steps which were installed for safety. The garden and lawns surrounding this castle is lush and well maintained. I had a really good afternoon here.
Lynn S — Google review
High on a hill only a few miles from city centre Glasgow and the city's second oldest building after the cathedral. Well maintained with information boards in the different rooms and steps up to the top with fine views. Built around 1400 surrounded by a defensive ditch that dates back to the C12th. Much of it was destroyed in battle in 1489 and then it was besieged in 1544. Unfortunately, it's now surrounded by an ugly housing estate with local youths causing problems to this important relic of the areas history.
Nuts — Google review
Very impressive castle and in remarkable condition considering its history. Entry is free all year round. We parked on the street adjacent to the castle and walked for 2 minutes. The climb to the top isn’t for the feint hearted as the wrought iron stairs feel like they’re ages with the castle, additionally you can see through the gaps of the stairs whilst climbing. The views from the top are stunning and it can get windy too. Lots of information boards dotted around the castle telling you about its history.

We got there when the sign said it was open, but the gate was locked. We walked around the outside of the fence a little and then left. Hate to give it a review because it would just be because it was closed for some reason that may have been valid and reasonable. We decided to move on to Pollok County Park and explore there instead.

Open upto 5pm, and it's free to visit. If you haven't been yet...go, and take the kids. This castle has all the bells & whistles...dungeons, turrets, Tower & a medieval toilet. This should amuse any 6-10 year old boys who find this funny or amusing. Just like my own Grandsons.

Additionally, Paisley boasts several other attractions such as museums, historical sites, and leisure centers for visitors to explore during their stay.
It's been a long time since I was last in the Paisley Arts Centre and it has been through some changes since then, all which seem to be for the better. The only thing I had an issue with was that most people there that night were all drinking coffee and when there are only two people behind the bar and taking an age to operate a machine to make the coffee then you can be waiting a loooong time in the queue when all you want is a can of cola

Thomas Coats, a member of the well-known mill owners family, is highly revered and renowned for his philanthropy. He played a significant role in advancing education and generously contributed to Paisley's development by funding various notable structures such as the church named after him, the library, museum, observatory, and town hall. The prosperous thread mills brought immense wealth to the Coats family.
Why am I even rating statues anymore, this is like the fifth I have done today.
Viktor G — Google review
Thomas Coats from the famous mill owners family is probably the most venerated and definitely the most philanthropic, being involved in education and giving Paisley most of its better buildings including the church named after him, the library and museum, the observatory and the town hall. The thread mills brought immense wealth to the Coats family. The legacy? Well definitely the buildings, but JP Coats the company he helped found,? Well after a series of cuts it deserted Paisley mostly for India , simple economics or exploitation of the Indian populace? Ironically a mere 40 years on automation probably makes the Paisley option viable again

Fountain Gardens is a small park located near Love Street in Paisley. The Coats family, known for their generosity, established the park with a geometric layout and adorned it with sculptural fountains and elaborate ironwork during the Victorian era. Today, the park serves as a playground for children and a popular spot for dog walkers. The recently restored Victorian fountain is its main attraction alongside Rabbie Burn's statue.
This park just off Love Street in Paisley I believe is another example of the Coats family's munificence. Quite a small park, with the usual children's play area, it's other main use nowadays is by the many dog walkers. The main attraction of this park is the magnificent Victorian? Fountain recently restored and in working order.

The Queen Victoria Statue in Paisley is a meticulously crafted and immaculately designed attraction that evokes a sense of pride in visitors. Queen Victoria herself visited the town in 1888 and on multiple occasions thereafter. Unveiled in 1901, the statue has become a global draw for its remarkable artistry. The iconic Paisley pattern, named after the town, has been associated with historical figures like Queen Victoria and even the Beatles.
A nice statue in the park honouring Queen Victoria, which was placed months after her death. A great tribute, and a very beautiful statue.

Queen Victoria was a very beloved monarch and reigned for probably the most prosperous time in British history. The British empire was the empire where the sun never set. Set in an excellent small park this is probably the execution site for the Paisley witches, a group of country people who suffered the greatest injustice in Paisley history. Although the so called witches and their accuser were actually from a country estate near modern day Erskine the witches were tried and found guilty by guid folk of Paisley, a lot of what happened can be put down to the superstitions of the day I wonder if the large number of churches in the west end can be attributed to the 'witches '

St. Mirin's Monument stands just outside St. Mirin's Cathedral, dedicated to the Patron saint of Paisley. This Irish missionary arrived in Scotland in the 6th century to spread Christianity and made his home in Paisley. The origins of this statue are uncertain, but it portrays the saint as small in stature, reflecting the physical characteristics of people from that era. The monument is well-maintained and adds a lovely touch to the area near the cathedral.
Saint Mirrin's monument is right outside Saint Mirin's Cathedral and is Patron saint of Paisley. Hailing from Ireland he came to Scotland to preach Christianity in the 6th century and settled in the haloed lands of Paisley. I am not sure of the origins of this statue but the portrayal of the veritable saint depicts him as a little petite, well I suppose people were a little smaller in those days.

Ferguslie Gardens, located in Paisley, is a peaceful and serene garden perfect for morning or evening strolls. The well-maintained greenery and a central pond with ducks and swans make it an ideal spot for relaxation. It's also popular among dog owners for leisurely walks. The park features a play area for kids, exercise machines for adults, and ample seating to soak in the atmosphere.
With the unseasonable sunny weather (!) Kicking in, I have been out and about and taking walks at this park much more recently. It's only a few minutes from my house which is convenient, because it is absolutely lovely. It's a nice half hour stroll on a grey overcast day, but the sunshine has seen me sitting in the park for a while longer. There's a nice pond with ducks and swans, beautiful maintained greenery, and it's a prime spot for dog watching ! If you live close, or are a short commute, give it a try - especially if you have dogs or children. A small play park is also on site. You will also note the complete lack of litter. Long may that continue. A wee slice of nature in the middle of Paisleh. Lovely!

This park seems like a hidden secret. On a lovely warm, dry day we only saw about 6 people in the park. There are swings etc for the children and simple exercise machines to use for free. There is a pond with a small island but best of all are the wide open grassy spaces for walking, sitting or picnicing where you can enjoy the sight of the many magnificent trees.

Cafe
Dalbeattie Garden Centre is a charming spot with a small cafe that offers delicious food and a wide selection of plants, compost, sheds, and garden buildings. The staff are welcoming and helpful, creating an infectious atmosphere. Despite limited parking space during peak times, the center's dedicated area for dogs and their owners adds to its appeal. Visitors can enjoy tasty treats at the coffee shop while admiring healthy plants and browsing through a good selection of tools in the shop.
A small family run garden centre with a very nice cafe. We called for a cup of coffee after a walk around the nearby woods. There is a nice seating area outside and the doggy cabin allows you to sit out of the weather if it is inclement. The cakes were lovely and the visit was very reasonably priced. There is a big menu of homemade snacks and meals.

They have a deviated outdoor seating area and also an enclosed, heated cabin to sit in for when the Scottish weather infant playing ball. Dog water bowls are out and about and they even have a dog menu!!!! I went for the full Scottish and my wife went for the cheese and tomato toasties. Both good. The menu is extensive and so is the cake selection. The actual garden centre is pretty good. Wife bought some plants and they even have a toy shop. Will be back.

Yesterday I attended the Big Art Show. The paintings, photographs, stained glass and ceramics are stunning. I have visited art exhibitions before but not the same as this level of talent. Look out for Barry Adamson's paintings. You can contact him on LinkedIn and Facebook Marion Gardyne is an Artist. She is running a workshop today from 11am inside these premises. I was there on business as well as leisure. Artwork would make a wonderful gift for a client's family member or friend who can't attend the celebration.
