Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm & Shop is a must-visit destination for those seeking a picturesque and fragrant experience. Nestled in Northern Wisconsin, this farm boasts over 20,000 thriving lavender plants of 14 different varieties. Visitors can wander through the fields filled with purple, white, and green flowers while enjoying the soothing aroma of lavender. The on-site gift shop offers an array of lavender-infused products including lotions, perfumes, bath items, and more.
Worth the stop, regardless of season. You might think that a lavender farm isn’t terribly interesting if the flowers aren’t in peak bloom, but our experience this week proves quite otherwise. For the low price of only $5 per person, you can walk amid their peaceful field full of 20,000 lavender plants. But before we even got out into the lavender, we had the most special, genuine, and informative conversation with the sweet lady at the ticket booth. It was immediately clear that she had a great love not only of the lavender farm but Washington Island as a whole. She gave us detailed information about the farm’s history and made many other recommendations of places to stop and experience while on the island. She even wore purple glasses and a purple floral blouse - her pride was evident in every aspect! We walked amidst the lavender and also tried one of the lavender lemonade slushies, which was delicious! And despite the lavender not being at peak bloom, it was still a relaxing and informative stop on the island. Highly recommended!

Such a cool experience! It was not too busy when we went around 10am on a Sunday. Tickets to get into the lavender farm were $5 per person. If you wanted to do pick your own lavender it is an additional $15. The grounds were stunning and breathtaking! There is also a cute bar and restaurant attached. Additionally there is a gift shop with lavender ice cream, sandwiches, and lavender macaroons and candies. I highly recommend coming here!

We stopped by Fragrant Aya Lavender Farm and Shop and really enjoyed our visit. The gardens were beautiful, even though they weren’t in bloom at the time, and the property was very peaceful and well maintained. Inside, the shop offered a lovely selection of lavender varieties and essential oils, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. We had been hoping to find more locally grown lavender products, but it appeared that much of what was sold was outsourced. Still, the overall experience was relaxing and enjoyable, and the quality of their items was excellent. It’s a great stop if you love lavender and want to browse a thoughtfully curated selection in a tranquil setting.

Fragrant Isle on Washington Island is a lavender lover’s dream! The air smells amazing, the staff is warm and helpful, and the shop offers a huge variety of quality lavender products. Peaceful and picturesque!

Beautiful places..fields of lavender and wild flowers. You can also pick your own lavender flowers. Nice gift shop and either food, scones, coffee cakes, sandwiches etc. and alcoholic drinks or rwgular drinks to latte's or coffee to lemonades.and confectionery made from lavender. Very nice family fun event in Washington Island. Have to get on the ferry from Northport. Wedding s and get together for family pictures would make beautiful background. You can't miss out! Its a must stop & visit. Put this on your next family fun day or vacation with friends or family or self..Enjoy!!
J A — Google review
This place is a lavender lover’s dream! I had always wanted to visit a lavender farm in bloom and this did not disappoint. Stunning, peaceful and picturesque! We even got to pick lavender and ate lavender ice cream.
Gemma M — Google review
absolutely adored the lavender farm. The staff is friendly and welcoming: The cafe in the store offers coffee, tea, snack foods/small meals & pastries. The bar or "distillery" located in the back offers food and drinks as well. Plenty of seating for groups of 6-8. Beautiful farm with charming outdoor decoration.. peaceful, serene & lovely smelling! the store offers a lot of different lavender products as well as paper goods like stationery; local art, books, jewelry & more! I bought a lavender pomegranate bar soap, a satchel of lavender and a lavender beard balm for my husband. If I lived on the island, I would want to work there too! lol must see on washington island!

We spent 3 hours here amongst the gorgeous lavender! 💜 It was a relaxing and fragrant place. Had a delicious salad from their small outdoor patio Cafe. We left happy and relaxed.

Schoolhouse Beach Park is a unique and picturesque lakeside destination located on Washington Island in Door County. It stands out for its smooth limestone pebbles, making it one of only five beaches in the world with such a feature. The beach's crystal-clear water and striking shoreline offer an idyllic setting for visitors to enjoy swimming and sunbathing. Over millennia, glaciers polished the rocks, resulting in the smooth stones that now adorn the beach. This natural wonder attracts photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Very lovely beach with crystal clear water. There are toilets, picnic benches and good parking.
Gemma M — Google review
Very unique beach. The water is crystal clear. One of 4 beaches which consist of flat rocks. For most folks, you'll still need sandals or water shoes to go about being on this beach even though the there are no sharp rocks. This place seems to always be busy with picnic goers.
Cal B — Google review
This was a really cool beach and unlike any beach I have been to before. The rocks, though smooth, were difficult for my sissy feet to walk on but we managed and the swimming was great. The water was cold and so refreshing. The cedar forest that lines the beach was just as impressive as the beach itself. There were so many areas for a picnic and plenty of space to spread out. This is such a unique a beautiful part of Wisconsin. Well worth the journey.
Tara W — Google review
Schoolhouse Beach Park on Washington Island is truly one-of-a-kind. The beach is made of smooth limestone rocks instead of sand, giving it a unique and beautiful look. The water is crystal-clear and perfect for wading or swimming on a sunny day. It’s also a great spot for picnics, relaxing by the shore, and taking scenic photos. The surrounding area is peaceful and well-maintained, making it ideal for families, couples, or anyone looking to enjoy nature and the lake’s serene beauty.
Kaushik M — Google review
A beautiful beach with thousands upon thousands of smooth stones. (But don’t take any. There’s a $250 fine.)
Rick G — Google review
Really neat beach, you're able to walk a long distance on the stones but if you want to avoid the ferry ride over you can go to Pebble Beach in Sister Bay to see the same type of stones on shore.
Christina L — Google review
Such a cool beach! The rocks were so smooth and perfect, i sat and watched the waves come in for a few minutes. Barely anyone there at the time.
Yana S — Google review
A very clean and unique beach! There is no sand, just stones. The water is pretty and clear. A ferry must be taken to this island to see this beach. The island itself is very different compared to the rest of Door County, in my opinion. Worth a visit!

Ferry service
Transportation
Ferries
The Washington Island Ferry Line is a popular car and passenger ferry that operates between the Door Peninsula and Washington Island. It departs from Northport Pier at the tip of the Door County Peninsula, offering convenient transportation for both vehicles and foot passengers. The ferry service is known for its efficiency and friendly staff, ensuring quick boarding and timely departures. Reservations are recommended for spring trips due to limited daily runs, while summer schedules offer more frequent crossings.
Always a good experience. Be aware that there may be lake flies that will bother you if you sit outside. The trip goes fairly fast and they do well getting cars packed in. If you want to take the ferry first thing in the morning, you may have to arrive very early. Large trucks (including tanker semis) may be in line. The delay can be an hour minimum if you don’t get on.
Flip G — Google review
If you are waiting in line for the return ferry, you already know how things work. They are organized and process vehicles as quick as you could hope. Again, keep vehicle windows closed. There are washrooms onboard along with covered/4 walls sitting area. Be aware, kids tend to be in this area. I’m sure their parents find it the safest place for them.
G S — Google review
Took the ferry round trip from the Door County peninsula to Washington Island on Memorial Day. The boat seemed well-maintained and the crew well-organized.
Cris J — Google review
Cool experience with the ferry. Really efficient at moving the cars along. Come every hour until 5:00 as the last one leaving the island.
D. G — Google review
Awesome people running this ferry. Shoutout to Mark and other staff for going above and beyond to help us find a purse we lost on Island. About a 25 minute ride between the mainland and Washington Island

Churches & Cathedrals
Located on Washington Island, the Washington Island Stavkirke is a replica stave church built by local carpenters to showcase the island's Scandinavian heritage. Tucked away in the woods across from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, this intriguing church features fascinating architecture and intricate details. The dense forest surrounding the wooden structure adds to its splendor, creating a captivating atmosphere. Visitors can also explore the interior and marvel at its design while taking photos.
The most beautiful and peaceful place we have found. It is so well kept and we enjoyed all of the details and craftsmanship. There is a cute little path in nature. The photos do not do this place justice. It has a very calming presence.
Chrysti B — Google review
The Washington Island Stavkirke, built in connection with Trinity Lutheran Church, is one of the most remarkable and peaceful landmarks on the island. Tucked away among tall evergreens, this hand-crafted Norwegian-style stave church feels like stepping back in time. The attention to detail is extraordinary — from the carefully joined timbers to the steep rooflines and intricate carvings that reflect centuries of Scandinavian craftsmanship and faith. The surrounding grounds, lovingly maintained by Trinity Lutheran, are beautifully landscaped and serene. A quiet wooded path leads to the church, offering a sense of calm and reverence even before you reach it. Once there, the scent of fresh wood, the filtered light, and the stillness create an atmosphere that invites reflection and gratitude. Whether you’re drawn by history, architecture, or faith, the Stavkirke is a true gem of Washington Island. It’s a place that connects heritage and devotion in a meaningful, unforgettable way — a timeless expression of artistry and spirit nestled in the heart of Door County.
Bryan 4 — Google review
When visiting Washington Island, this is a centuries-old church worth a stop. It is not a long walk; easy-ish for seniors, 80+. The photos I’ve taken recently are similar to existing offerings. I’ll just add to the group. Just immerse yourself in the architecture from the 1800s. Outstanding to stand where our ancestors have stood. No tickets are necessary. It is free to visitors.
G S — Google review
Worth the stop if you’re going to the island. Might be worth going to the island in the first place if you were thinking about it. While a small structure, it is breath taking in person. The darkness of the wood exterior and amazing hand carved interior are truly something to behold.

Stunning. What a beautiful serene place to visit. The craftsmanship of this place is incredible. Highly recommend you stop and visit. It’s free!
Erin C — Google review
This place was one of our stops on our Cherry Train Tour we went on to visit Washington Island. An interesting fact about this place is that there was no nails used in the construction of this church. Amazing capentry and details inside and out.
Cal B — Google review
Beautiful old church with amazing history. There is also a prayer trail in the woods.
Maija O — Google review
Quite an intriguing church building with such fascinating architecture. The dense forest surrounding the wooden structure adds to the splendor of this church. The interior is also an excellent place to marvel at the architecture and take photos. I was surprised to learn that this church was not only a replica of a Norwegian Stavkirke, but that it was built much more recently than I thought it was (1990’s). Regardless, this small but beautiful structure is a destination that you must visit if you’re ever on Washington Island. Also, check out some of the trails and paths that wind through the forest behind the church. During my visit this past week in mid-May, wild daffodils with dazzling bright yellow blooms carpeted the forest floor. Besides that, the trails provide a peaceful environment to meditate in the woods.

Fast food restaurant
Albatross Drive-In is a popular burger and ice cream shop known for its wide variety of offerings, including soft serve and hand-scooped ice cream. The addition of the Tiki Bar has been a hit with visitors, providing a unique experience for both kids and adults. The diner's popularity led to its reconstruction after a fire in 2002. While it's not open year-round, it's worth checking out before departing on the Washington Island ferry.
I love this place. I would traverse hundreds, nay, THOUSANDS of miles across inhospitable and hostile terrain to do battle against the foul legions of the unholy who are bent on destroying the age of man...just to cast an evil ring into the liquid hot magma of an active volcano to absolutely rid the world of evil and its satan-allegory if it meant that The Albatross will remain open for the next 300 years. Again, I love this place. You, my friends at the Albatross Drive-In, bow to no one. But in all seriousness, their food is amazing. They have some of the best, most delicious, and visually appealing burgers and hotdogs on Washington Island, if not the whole of Door County. Their shoestring fries are crispy and delightful, and their fried cheese curds are so gosh darn good that it will have you wanting to commit felonies just to have some more curds. I am severely lactose intolerant but gave their milkshakes a try despite my better judgment, and they are absolutely fantastic. It was totally worth the stomach pain, gas, and runny bowel movements for the next several days. So come one and come all and come check them out. Cheers!
Puppers P — Google review
What a fun place! They have been in business for close to 50 years and they have the classic drive in food! I had the Alby Burger with fries and a hot fudge malt, everything was super good! There is also a tiki bar in the back where you can get drinks. There are yard games and a sand box for the kids! We also saw a sign for their open mic nights on Tuesdays I believe so definitely worth checking out!
Maija O — Google review
Literally the best food in Door County!! If you're thinking of going to Washington Island, do it just for a visit to the Albatross Drive-In alone! Everything we ordered (cheeseburger, cowboy burger, fried pickles and fries) was prepared, seasoned and cooked to perfection! The staff was friendly and fun spirited, the outdoor eating area was clean and inviting. Overall great experience and our favorite stop during our vacation.
Kali M — Google review
Loved this place! The burgers were DELISH! Shakes were huge and worth the price. The large fry is enough for two people. The cheese curds were crispy & the service was great. On a busy day you’d probably have to park down the street and walk a bit. The popcorn shop next door is also a must-do, free samples!
Allyson C — Google review
First time visiting the island and this fantastic restaurant. Absolutely loved the vibe and music playing. The burgers were to die for. I had the southwest burger which was delicious!!! Prices are reasonable and plenty of seating. The owner was sweet and everyone seemed very nice. Definitely recommend stopping in if you are on the island.
RL K — Google review
We’ve come here a couple times while visiting the island. We like that it’s a “fast food” option where we can sit outside with our dog! For fast food, it is a little slower than average but they do advertise that on their website so more of a heads up than a complaint. The burgers and ice cream are good, the cheese curds and fried picked were average. Love that they have a doggy sundae! However, the staff haven’t been very friendly in the times we’ve been here.
Cassidy T — Google review
The food is good but not great. The quality of the soft ice cream they use for their shakes is mediocre. The cheese curds were similar to Culvers but all orange cheddar, same type of breading. The hamburger and fries were good but was not worth waiting 1.5 hours for. The service was friendly. I would possibly stop here again if there was no line and I was in the mood for fried food.
Jessica B — Google review
Good food. They warn you that they aren't fast which is just a sign of they take the time to make it right. The Alby burger and onion rings were great. The hot dog was just fine. My kids won't eat a Chicago dog so just ordered it plain for them.

Park
Sand Dunes Park, located in the southern part of Washington Island, is a serene beach destination with clear waters and sandy dunes. Visitors can enjoy peaceful exploration and paddling in Lake Michigan without the crowds. While the walk from the parking lot may be a bit lengthy, it's worth it for a tranquil experience. Families can appreciate this beautiful beach for swimming and spending quality time together.
Go here instead of Schoolhouse Beach, it’s way more scenic, fun to be at, & just overall better. Sand Dunes Park fan til I die. I mean I only went once & will never go again but this literally felt like I was at an ocean whereas Schoolhouse was crowded & honestly a bore. If you have kids or a dog it’s a great place for them to run & play too, Schoolhouse Beach however, is not. Guys I cannot stress enough how underrated this beach is compared to that one.
Jordan C — Google review
Another amazing beach and very different from schoolhouse beach. The beach is super soft sand and postcard perfect views. I was surprised that when you approach the water it changes to rocks, very difficult to walk on rocks. More hurty than schoolhouse beach. After walking out for what felt like a long time it was still only shin deep. Kept going and still only shin deep. Then my daughter pointed out people way out and they were only at knee depth. Abort missionn, no way I could have made it to swimmable waters so we stuck to the sandy beach instead. 🤣 So not great for swimming (for me anyway) but great for hanging out and enjoying the views and company.
Tara W — Google review
I like to call this beach the "exercise beach" due to the somewhat steep sand hill one needs to conquer before arriving at the beach and water. Sand Dunes Park is a beautiful beach with a lovely scenic view. It is a fantastic place to bring your family and friends for an exploratory visit and to frolic in the sand and water. It is also a great spot to view the local plantlife and wildlife, particularly of the avian variety. The best time to go is during the summer months, as the water will be more temperate and conducive for swimming and splashing. But just be forewarned as to the volume of insects that will also be sharing the same space as you, so bring your lotions and sprays. Remember to pick up after yourselves and your pets if you choose to bring them. Respect the environment and one another, and as always, safety first, then teamwork. So come on over and check it out. Cheers!

Nature & Parks
Percy Johnson County Park, located on Washington Island in Wisconsin, spans about five acres of mostly wooded land along Lake Michigan. The park features a sandy beach and grassy areas suitable for picnics and outdoor activities like kayaking. Visitors can also enjoy shaded picnic spots and views of Hog Island. The park is accessible via the Washington Island Ferry, making it a convenient destination for families looking to spend a day at the beach or explore the natural beauty of the area.
This is my favorite spot to hang out on the island when I'm in the mood to bring some food and refreshments and chow down while enjoying a lovely, scenic view of the beach and lake. I will typically head over to one of the bars or restaurants, order something for takeout, and then head over to Percy Johnson to eat my meal. During the warmer months, be forewarned: there will be a variety of bugs, especially the ones capable of flight, so come prepared and bring your lotions and sprays because some of these winged insects will try to fly up and into your nostrils and eyes, for whatever reason. Or maybe it's just me, so who knows. I would not consider this a "swimming" sort of beach, but you are absolutely welcome to try. The water just always seems uncomfortably cold during the warmer months, and the sediment and detritus floating or settling in the lake can really make the water murky and sometimes foul-smelling. It really is more of a "picnic with a view" type of beach. It is perfect for a nice exploratory stroll up and down the beach to inspect and scrutinize the local plants and wildlife and frolic in the sand. To me, personally, this beach gains its most spectacular visual appearance in the late fall when the water gets tremendously choppy due to high winds and the trees slowly become bereft of its red, yellow, and orange leaves gently gliding through the chill air to land softly, quietly, and largely unnoticed on the surf and sod. With a Thermos filled with steaming hot black coffee in hand and with your warmest flannel over your back and shoulders and buttoned up tight is the best way to enjoy the view of the tumultuous water. It's poetry in motion. Come check them out. Cheers!
Puppers P — Google review
Not super well maintained, but accessible with a heck of a view and room for a pleasant walk. Was pleasantly surprised by the rocky outcrop to the right of the main beach area, nothing crazy to write home about, but an easy lunch spot if the weather is amiable. Would not recommend for a traditional beach day - manage your expectations properly and it's nice - hence the 4/5 review
Elliott Y — Google review
The sand beach is slowly going natural with grasses grow. There is a beautiful rock formation there.
Daniel S — Google review
It's a well wooded park with a nice vault toilet. There is a beach area. There is a picnic area with grills and an old pump that does work, but that is about it.
John D — Google review
Beautiful park, clear water, nice sandy beach until you enter the water where the bottom is icky squicky mucky mush with rocks underneath that. The drinking water from the park's hand pump was delightfully icy cold and fresh tasting.
Qadgop M — Google review
Beautiful view of sunrise. Unfortunately, right below sandy surface of beach is oily muck. Possibly some dumping going on? I did see a little stream of something oily at one end.
Julie P — Google review
This is a beautiful beach to watch the sunrise. It's quiet and secluded. Remember when you visit her for sunrise not to disturb others with your noise. Many use this place for meditation and prayer.
Shelley I — Google review
This is a wonderful little park. Grills, bathrooms and a nice sand beach. Makes a great place for beach day. Unfortunately our trip to Percy Johnson Park was not fun because of the Alewise fish that washed up on shore and all the dying fish created black water and a horrible smell.

Jackson Harbor Soup and Sandwich is a charming restaurant located in a historic property that has been family-owned for over 100 years. Situated near the ferry from Washington Island to Rock Island State Park, it offers stunning views of Lake Michigan. The menu features delicious soups, salads, and sandwiches, making it a perfect spot for a meal before or after exploring the area. Visitors can also enjoy local hard cider or beer while playing yard games outside.
Our first stop at Washinton Island was to Jackson Harbor Soup! We had heard great things from the locals about this place. The service was quick, good was delicious and fresh, and lots of seating outside near the water. There were plenty of people working and very attentive to customer needs and flow of the ordering. Highly recommend this as a must-do!
KaeLee T — Google review
This place was recommended to us by a pro shop employee at Deer Run. We were not disappointed. Arrived shortly before noon and there was a bit of a line but things moved quickly. Got a sandwich (JH Sub-a-Drift) for my girlfriend and I to share and it did not disappoint! Large portions of meat and delicious bread (the honey mustard dressing is great) easily filled us both for the light lunch we wanted. The soups sounded delicious and bakery on display while we waited in line was difficult to pass up. Will definitely come here again the next time we’re on the island.
Graham A — Google review
Casual dining near the lake. Smoked salmon to share was excellent, nicely smoked and not too dried out. French onion soup was a bit 'thin', could have been stronger flavored broth, cheese topping was good though. Lots of chicken on the chicken Caesar, with a good dressing and fresh lettuce. Loaded baked potato was delicious, lots of bacon and sour cream. Wait staff were friendly and quick.
Burstock — Google review
I started with a mouthwatering slice of strawberry rhubarb pie that had big, sweet chunks of rhubarb and strawberry for my appetizer. Then, we shared the Tuscan bean soup and Cubano panini, both outstanding. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the beautiful water view. Well worth the drive while on Washington Island!
S P — Google review
Excellent place to grab a bite and enjoy a scenic view. Their soups are phenomenal, and their sandwiches are outstanding. I've given most of their menu items a try, but I always keep returning to the undisputed reigning champ: their chicken quesadillas. Beautifully cooked and seasoned tender chicken with cheese, peppers, onions, and tomato cradled within a mildly crispy tortilla. Their service is top-notch, friendly, and Johnny-on-the-spot. Located on Washington Island, the Jacobsen Museum is a small but fascinating museum named after local explorer Jens Jacobsen. It houses a diverse collection of natural history and cultural artifacts, including items salvaged from local shipwrecks. Visitors can admire hand-carved model ships created by Jacobsen himself and explore exhibits featuring Scandinavian artifacts from the 1800s and Native American items. The museum is housed in a quaint wooden cabin and offers free admission with optional donations.
I recently visited Jacobsens Museum at 2150 Little Lake Rd, in Washington, WI. It's a wonderful museum that describes the history of the area. There are many interesting antiques that are unique to this part of the state. The docent working that day was very helpful as we discussed many of the items displayed. He also gave information of other parts of the island and also provided information on an awesome restaurant and some of ota history.
Greg K — Google review
The museum was closed when we visited, however there are many artifacts you can browse by and read about. Nice thing was not a lot of people, weather was nice. But would’ve really liked to enjoy the inside of the museum.
Erin C — Google review
Our visit to the Jacobsen’s Museum was both inspiring and informative. The displays are thoughtfully arranged and beautifully curated, blending art, history, and storytelling in a way that captures the essence of Washington Island. The museum feels like a time capsule that honors the island’s people and its unique maritime and Scandinavian heritage. I especially appreciated the artistic touch throughout the exhibits—every corner seemed designed with intention, from the hand-crafted displays to the small, personal artifacts that connect you to the island’s past. It’s clear that a lot of love and creativity went into building and maintaining this little gem, and it’s well worth stopping in to get a deeper appreciation for the island’s history. That said, I do have to take one star off for the bathroom facilities, which were honestly beyond horrendous. They felt neglected and out of step with the otherwise well-cared-for museum experience. Still, the Jacobsen’s Museum is a must-see for anyone wanting to understand the artistic and historical soul of Washington Island. With just a bit of attention to the facilities, it could easily be a five-star attraction.

While visiting Washington Island came across this gem because I made a wrong turn. What a wonderful, fantastic addition to my day! This is a small museum filled with all kinds of artifacts and memorabilia of a time long gone by. I could have stayed for hours but alas I was out of time and could only visit briefly. If you have an opportunity to stop and visit by all means do. You won’t regret a moment of it.

The museum itself was chock full of amazing history! I would go back again just to look at the scrollwood carvings that they made with an old scroll saw! Truly amazing! I was just there in October and the gentleman there was very knowledgeable! He gave us all kinds of great information! So glad they got someone new!!

This is a cute little stopped to get a glimpse into the history of Washington Island. Be sure to seek it out!
Erik K — Google review
We had the absolute BEST time in this museum—given the free nature of the museum and its location on Washington Island, we were so overjoyed to discover how many gems there were in this genuine, original construction of a Washington Island cabin. The guide working on-site was incredibly knowledgeable and more than happy to share information with us, including answering questions we had. Her love of history and the island was so clear it made the experience even more positive. Now, to be clear this is not a gigantic museum on par with MKE Public but what it is—is a gem on the shores of Little Lake rich in history. You’ll want to check it out while you’re on the island and see all the things you can. Put it on your Washington Island list!

School House Beach, located on Washington Island, Wisconsin, is a picturesque and unique destination. The beach's name originates from the site of the island's first log school house in 1850. Nestled among pine trees, this hidden gem opens up to a horseshoe-shaped bay with calm waters and countless photo opportunities. Unlike typical sandy beaches, School House Beach features smooth hand-sized limestone rocks that were shaped by glaciers during the ice age.
The rocks and water are absolutely gorgeous! It is well worth the visit. Such a peaceful, serene place. It wasn’t too busy when we were there. Looking forward to coming back and spending more time here!

What a great place to stop for a picnic! Park benches are provided! We didn’t walk on the rocks, looked like it would be painful. There were families playing I the water, skipping stones, and just enjoying the sunlight. Definitely check this park out when visiting Washington Island. Forget the ferry; take the next one.

This beach is so beautiful and unique. There are restrooms, picnic tables and a few grills for cooking. There are signs everywhere to leave the rocks in their home on the beach. Both ends have private ownership but there are signs and a fence to keep you out.

Beautiful limestone rock beach. Great for swimming or having a picnic. It’s an annual stop for us. Bring a chair or blanket, seating is limited.
Amanda R — Google review
Interesting geological phenomenon, this beach houses many smooth stones. In the past the beach extended into the cedar forest, unfortunately many stones have found homes in other places as they have been taken in the past by beach goers and such. There is a fine for removing rocks to preserve this beach.

Nelsen's Hall Bitters Pub, located on Washington Island, is a historic tavern known for its unique Bitters Club, which originated during the Prohibition Era. The pub gained fame by exploiting a loophole in Prohibition laws to provide alcoholic bitters as medicinal prescriptions. Visitors can join the club and enjoy the remote and charming atmosphere of this island treasure.
nelsens is an iconic must-stop bar on washington island. chill in the historic bar and have a shot of angostura bitters. the bartenders are friendly and quick and make great cocktails. you will definitely experience the mix of tourists hanging with locals which is so fun. they have a new menu this year which is honestly so amazing. the burgers are perfection. i tried a bite of my friends BLT wrap which also was so delicious. join the bitters club. you won’t regret it.

Not sure what people can complain about, I go here every time im on the island. Bartender works his butt off and the food is very good. It's not cheap but what do you expect on an island. I would consider it a high end touch on bar food. Super good wings and burgers. Great place to start your island adventure and join the bitters club. I really enjoy watching people's reactions to the shot of bitters. Also the cool old fishing photos in the bathroom always hit close to home for a lifetime wisconsin fisherman. Everyone we meet here including the staff is super nice.
Alex D — Google review
Visited this place with my sister for the "famous" bitter shot. The bartender was SO RUDE. She FINALLY acknowledged us and set 2 shot glasses in front of us, cards, book to sign and then WALKED AWAY. She served the entire bar and then people that came in after us. At one point she looked over and said she hadn't forgotten us. WTH??? She finally came over and poured our 2 shots- the bitters were right in front of us and we had wondered if we were supposed to pour our own. Not sure what we did to affend her but we were definitely being slighted. People around us wondered too. Bottom line: don't bother with this place. You can get a shot of bitters at any bar.
Diane S — Google review
Horrible attitude, would not recommend. It started out okay, the waitress was super nice, I feel bad for you to be honest. We asked if we could move tables, she wasn't sure so she asked her manger who said it was okay, we got three people that worked there that said it was okay. Than this lady comes storming out, yelling at us for moving the tables, since the floor was 100 years old. The floor isn't even that nice plus chairs were scraping against the floor anyways. It's not like we dragged the table against the ground, we picked it up and carefully put it down. The lady than said something before walking back into the kitchen. A few seconds later a man comes out telling us to not move their tables, he was mad and aggressive for no reason at all. One of our party members stood up and explained calmly that we we're told it was okay. We than asked if we can get separate checks since it was two different tables and a different watiter said "we don't do separate checks" in a cocky and rude voice. We got up and left, thank god. We apologized to the nice waiter and told her it's not her fault and she did an amazing job. Most of these reviews are towards the bar part of this place not the actual restaurant.
Kyren R — Google review
It wasn't very busy when we were there so we were able to converse with the 2 bartenders. They were both very friendly and it was fun talking with them. We also chatted with a couple of other patrons one of which gave us a history of the bar which was interesting. We had a good pizza that had an excellent crust. It was a good time.
John D — Google review
This is by far the worst restaurant I've ever been in. My family and my sisters family stopped there to eat yesterday. The large tables were full. The waitress (who did a great job and should work somewhere else) asked a young man there if we could put two tables together, he said yes. Then a woman came over and pointed to the two tables to move. We moved the tables and not even did we sit down and a woman came out of the kitchen rudely telling us not to move tables, then said its 100 year old floor. I explained that we were told to move them. She asked by whom and I told her that as well. She just walked away. A few minutes later a man comes out of the kitchen chewing us out about moving the tables. I walked over to him and told him we didn't just come in moving tables, we were told to. He walks away. We sit down to order and my sister asks the waitress for two separate checks because it is two families. The waitress was going to check and the hostess comes over with and attitude and says no separate checks. One person with a bad attitude is just someone having a bad day. 3 people is a culture in a business. We just got up and told the waitress she did a great job but we are no longer interested in dining there.

The Washington Island Farm Museum, situated on Washington Island in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin, offers a glimpse into the island's farming and dairy history. The museum showcases exhibits on farming practices and dairy production, featuring vintage milk cans and farm equipment. Visitors can also enjoy feeding animals and exploring a 1850s log cabin along with other outbuildings to experience life as it was lived during that era.
We have been coming to the Farm Museum for many years and this year did not disappoint. They have restored and added so many exhibits. It’s self-guided. You can walk through time on this beautiful farm. They have a few goats, chickens, and rabbits to say hi to and feed if you like. Also added a fun dress-up area to take pictures with the buggy they have set up. So much fun!

No tickets, but donations are appreciated. Stop in each building where you will find implements of the era. Weaving machines, farming implements, washing implements and there’s a video in one of the buildings made by a descendent. You can wander over to the back area to see chickens and goats.

Bird watchers frequent the area to observe predatory birds like bald eagles, osprey, and white pelicans nesting in the vicinity.
A very nice hiking trail. We took this hike during some rainy weather & had the hike all to our selves. The little lake and “big” lake are separated by 50 feet. Super cool!

Off the beat hiking tour around a lake scene that most tourist will not be able to find. The location is difficult to find but there is a sign by the road and a little area for parking. Great view of the Lake Michigan and the smaller Little Lake. Highly recommend for some beautiful, quiet hike area
Ryan P — Google review
This is in an area on the very northwest corner of Washington Island. Not too many people get up this far. Finding this place was not helped by Yelp's erroneous location. At first we ended up on Allouez Trail. Gets you close but ends in private property. Google Earth took us to Little Lake Road (duh!), which is quite south of where you think the right road should be. This road takes you to the Jacobsen Museum (worthy of a visit, if you can catch it open) with this pretty little lake just to the east of the museum. There was once a large Native American encampment here. Most of the northern part of the lake is in preserve And it is a pretty lake...a lake on an island in a lake. A few artifacts are scattered about..an old rock wagon and a salvaged rudder among them. You can lauch a canoe or kayak here. The preserve around the lake is 32 scres with an easy 1.25 mile hiking trail. Birding is great! We had permission from the owner of the Hotel Washington to access her property and we walked to the cliffside of Green Bay. All in all a pretty place to visit. I'm sure there's a ton of fish there, too. If you're on Washington Island and looking for a lesser known place it would behoove you to drive or bike here. Two asides...the bird you hear singing in the woods is likely a red eyed vireo, they are everywhere on the island. You will see an unfamiliar flag around the island. It is the flag of Iceland, many of the early folks who settled on Washington Island came from or had ancestry from Iceland. The tradition continues.

The Koyen Collection, comprising K.K. Fiske Restaurant, Granary Saloon, and Coop Hangout, offers a unique dining experience on Washington Island. Attracted by the promise of freshly caught fish and daily served lawyers, patrons can expect delicious food that exceeds typical bar fare in quality. The menu boasts delectable options such as juicy chicken, tasty coleslaw, and good cheese curds accompanied by a homemade ranch dressing.
Quite possibly the best whitefish I've ever had! We ended up here last week during an off-season visit to the island and it was phenomenal! Super friendly staff and great drink selection, I ended up leaving with a bottle of the cherry apple cider. Bonus, they're open year round-- we'll definitely be back!

The fish was good, but the portion seemed small. I think they were understaffed that night, so only appetizers and express items were available, aside from the fish boil. The pulled pork was okay — a bit pricey for what it was, and it came with chips instead of fries :( That said, the person who attended to us was very nice, and the overall atmosphere felt friendly.

First time on Washington Island and stopped in for lunch. Asked for a suggestion from the waitress and had the Kenny Sandwich with coleslaw. The slaw was very crisp and delicious. Some places have too much vinegar but this coleslaw is very well balanced and if its not made in-house it tastes like it is. The sandwich was very good and packed with flavor! Ill be back to the island and back to this restaurant.
Terry G — Google review
Just about everything about this dining experience was a solid B+, which as a cumulative means it's an A+. Service / food speed wasn't rapid, but it was well communicated and friendly. Food was really really good, shy of perfect. I think everyone at my table was at least acceptably pleased if not downright impressed. Atmosphere has both warm views and a old town charm, but also kind of strange decoration choices. Also super generously priced beer (IMO), especially compare to many places in Sturgeon. If you're on the island, you really can't go wrong coming here.
Elliott Y — Google review
Their fish dinners are phenomenal (I recommend ALL of them when they're available and/or the fish is in season), the drinks come a-plenty, and their service comes with a smile. What more can anyone ask? I've been driving up to the Island for over 20 years, and KK's has and will always be my favorite spot up there. And once you're done with your food, drink, and merriment, if they're still open, take a walk across the street and grab some homemade fudge at the Mercantile for dessert. Paid a visit recently on 07/13. Tried their Big Game elk burger, and it was hands down the best hamburger I've ever eaten in my entire life. Not an exaggeration. Perfectly cooked juicy elk patty with crisp lettuce, tart pickles, fragrant red onions, and a nice succulent tomato slice all in between 2 beautiful burger buns that could barely contain and absorb the delicious meat juices. Had to practically unhinge my jaw to take bites out of it and had greasy burger fluids dribbling down my chin and hands. Absolute, messy perfection. It also came with some nice crispy fries as well. We had a great dining experience, and our waitress was an absolute gem and a rockstar. Come check them out!
Puppers P — Google review
We stopped for a drink ( so cant rate the food) and really liked the vibe of the place. Nice staff and plenty of places to sit in the bar area, with the restaurant separate. Looks like you can eat in the bar area. Also had a place for a band to play.
Tammy K — Google review
No hosting or service of any kind. You just have to wait for a table to free up and hope for the best. Cleaned up the table myself after some guests left. They told us it will be an hour wait so we were patiently waiting before we checked on our food order. Apparently they lost the order. Nobody checked in, nobody offered water, waited for our drinks and received those within about 30 minutes (bear from a cracked open can with no glass offer and Shirley temples that came in tiny plastic cups 10 minutes later than bear and were not even fully filled). Sadly I was there with 3 tired & hungry kids and had to go to our rental place to cook something for them. Never going back. Worst experience of my life and I’ve been places… I would give zero stars if there was an option for that. If you value your time- skip this place.

Washington Island Campground is a popular choice for visitors seeking a peaceful and cozy camping experience on the island. The campground offers well-maintained facilities and excellent hosts, making it a favorite among many travelers. Guests can enjoy various amenities such as mini-golf and recreational activities in the welcoming environment provided by the owners. The campground's beautiful natural surroundings, including a canopy of trees providing shade, create a tranquil atmosphere for an enjoyable stay.
As a mom of 3 boys who recently moved to the Midwest, I was really hoping that being on an island would give them the chance to see the kind of wildlife we didn’t get to experience in a big city. Washington Island Campground did not disappoint. The kids found slugs in the trees and newts in the pond. Nature at its finest! That’s part of what camping in the woods is all about. It turned into such a cool and unexpected learning experience for them. The campground itself is incredibly clean and well cared for. What I really loved was that the owners kept as much of the natural woods intact possible. It felt wild in the best way, as if we were truly guests in nature’s home, and everything the owners could care for was done with such intention and respect, without disturbing the peaceful, untouched beauty of the woods. The sites were private, quiet, and surrounded by nature. The lodge had everything we needed, from helpful info to little extras, and the bathrooms were absolutely beautiful; clean, modern, and clearly well cared for. The owners are just the kindest people and you can tell they put a lot of love into the place. We were so impressed and are already talking about coming back. Highly recommend!

Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, I noticed the cabin was not adequately cleaned. There was dust everywhere, the floor was extremely dirty and we found lots of cobwebs in the corners. Also the smell it was so disgusting (like a pee). No hot water for the shower. We had a really bad experience! We stayed in the same area and if I’m not mistaken we rent the same cabin 3 years ago and the cabins had so much better quality and conditions than now. That’s very unfortunate because we used to love the place. I hope the host can address the issues for future guests.

My wife and I stayed here over the last weekend. Great rates, beautiful location and spacious wooded sites. Only met Kayla, 1/2 of the husband and wife ownership team, and she was awesome too. This is a must do! We will be returning as many times as our busy schedule allows and booking the group site for next year! Thanks guys for such a wonderful time.

Our experience at Washington Island Campground was very disappointing. First, I asked for a camp space for our RV as close to the deluxe cabin (57) we rented for our daughter’s family. I was told that 49 was a spacious grassy spot across from the cabin. Yes it was spacious but definitely not grassy as you can see in the pictures. It was muddy. The power and water were also so far back that not parking in the mud wasn’t an option. Secondly, the website is filled with false advertising. There are no inflatables in the pond, which is filled with newts and leeches so no swimming. The mini golf course is dangerous and dilapidated. My grandson fell over the metal nails sticking up and was bleeding but we couldn’t tell anyone because the office was closed, which it often was. The play set on the website is not what is on site either. Yes they offer laundry but it is 7$ for one load. And the overflowing trash dumpster was disgusting and frustrating. I could go on and on but we opted to leave a day early to avoid any more disappointment. Unfortunately I couldn’t talk to anyone because the office was closed again…still.

3rd year on the island, first year staying at the cabins on the campground, and can't imagine staying elsewhere! Hospitality is at an 11! When my heater in the cabin went out late night, one of the owners brought over her personal heater for me to make sure I had what I needed. 10/10 would stay again. So many woodland animals, I felt like a Disney princess. (I'm a 43 year old straight man.) 😃 🦌
Ron S — Google review
The owners were extremely accommodating for our large group of 12 when we discovered the site we reserved wasn't big enough. The campground was clean, quiet, and perfect for families. Everyone working in the office was incredibly friendly. The skies cleared a couple nights and the view was unbelievable. We could see so many stars and constellations without all the light pollution.
Danielle V — Google review
Camped for 4 nights tent camping so cannot comment on RV setups. Best tent sites are 19 or 20. Some sites are right on top of each other, but their website has a 360 photo of each site to help you choose. Firewood was $7 per bundle, and kind of green, had a hard time burning, and contained 4-5 large pieces so would recommend to have a hatchet or Axe to split up. The swimming pond is a nice bonus to cool off, and is clean. Staff was accommodating, and we were able to extended our stay by an extra night via text message when they were out of the office.

Camping area was very good and peaceful. Sadly toilet and shower facilities were not suitable for the disabled as no handrails, external original toilet had rails but cut my hand and it needed at least twice daily cleaning around the toilet pans and the floor, the smell was horrendous / revolting.

Ferry service
Rock Island State Park Ferry is a pedestrian-only ferry that takes visitors to the 912-acre island located in Lake Michigan. It's recommended to catch the first morning ferry for a day trip, allowing plenty of time to explore the island and make it back before the last ferry. The crew members are friendly and helpful, making the experience enjoyable. The ride itself is a short 10-15 minute cruise from Washington Island to Rock Island, offering beautiful views and sandy beaches.
Weather didn't work out. Ferry was taking only camping people. Even pictures look sunny, waves were up to sky! Very choppy. Price for a ferry $11. I think cash only.
Natha B — Google review
First outbound departure not until 10:00a making all-day visits rather compressed. Large groups can displace early arrivals. No guarantee you'll make your planned departure time. All riders must be seated forbidding standing-room riders.
Zach W — Google review
They only offer a few trips to Rock Island and back each day, so make sure you check the Washington Island Ferry website before you travel. I recommend buying a combo ferry ticket (Washington Island + Rock Island) when you are at Northport; you will save money and hassle.
Jordan H — Google review
I took the Karfi ferry to Rock Island expecting a breezy, scenic ride across the water. What I didn’t expect was to be greeted by a crew member who seemed personally offended that passengers existed. The scenery was charming, the weather was kind, but the welcome was about as warm as Lake Michigan in January. Efficiency? Sure. Friendliness? Only if you count glaring as a form of customer service. Luckily, Rock Island itself more than made up for the sour start, but let’s just say the crabbiness on deck gave the “Karfi” a whole new definition of rough waters.
Ashley F — Google review
Late May visit on a Sunday, after missing the first ferry of the day on Saturday due to overcrowding. They don't run it frequently enough and therefore passengers get left behind. Seemingly no policy re the amount of junk some campers bring on so the loading process is hectic. Lots of poorly behaved dogs so be careful. Will not use again, given overcrowding and lack of enforced policies.
Raf M — Google review
Rock Island is one of my favorite places on earth. It is worth the day trip, but I recommend planning a camping trip there. Make a trip to the restored lighthouse for the tour.
Daniel S — Google review
The staff was incredibly helpful in getting our gear on and off the ferry, and helping us check in to the campsites. The ride itself is an easy 10-15 minute cruise from Washington Island to Rock Island.

People's Park is a small but charming park located next to Little Lake and the Jacobsen Museum in Washington Island, Wisconsin. It offers stunning sunset views, making it a romantic spot for couples. The park features picnic tables and a fire pit/grill for visitors to enjoy a leisurely meal while taking in the beautiful scenery. Although it doesn't provide water access, the panoramic view of the west side of the island is truly breathtaking. Additionally, there are public bathrooms available near the museum.
I wish I could keep this place a secret but I can’t. The sunset off this park was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever watched. Get there 30 minutes early and enjoy how blue the water is contrasted against the orange sky. It’s truly a wonderful sight.

Red Barn Park & Gislason Public Beach is a family-friendly destination with a playground, picnic tables, grills, and trails. Visitors can enjoy live entertainment on Friday nights during the summer. The park offers an alcohol-free environment and features volleyball courts, benches on the beach, and clean facilities. The area provides a picturesque view of frozen waters and opportunities to observe seabirds. It's also described as a great spot for grilling out with some mucky areas in the water.
The view was very nice when we visited, the water was mostly frozen. We observed some seabirds doing their thing then moved on to experience more beaches on the island.

Once a dairy farm, Historic Island Dairy has now been transformed into a charming lavender farm and gift shop. While the lavender fields are smaller than others in the area, visitors can enjoy them for free and kids can have fun on a life-sized wooden train. The location may be misleading for those expecting a dairy museum, but it offers an enjoyable experience with its history, art, and well-curated shop. Visitors appreciate the friendly staff and the opportunity to purchase lovely lavender items from the gift shop.
Beautiful place but nothing to do with dairy. Although historically it was a dairy farm, it has been transformed into a lavender farm. Very disappointing and confusing as visitors interested in seeing a dairy museum lol. However 5 star rating given because the lavender business is great! My review for them is posted on their page.
Alisha J — Google review
Nice place with lavender farm and shop with lots of lavender based items on sale. We didn't like lavender based gelato
Abhijit B — Google review
Based on what we read ahead of visiting, I suppose we expected to be rather impressed with Historic Island Dairy. On the contrary, we were merely... "whelmed"... by what we found. It doesn't seem to have any of the charm that we found in so many other places throughout Door County. While it does have an impressive interior - with a full (and I mean full) timeline of the location's history, and all sorts of wonderful lavender-based products - the outward appearance is somewhat lacking. The lavender garden itself is quite sparse, and not very picturesque. The buildings are all just kind of "there" - even the stavkirke-themed playhouse doesn't spark any real inspiration. Maybe we hit it on an off-season, maybe they just need some pep in their step, maybe don't get too hyped about this particular lavender farm.
Marcus M — Google review
The site was well kept and clean. When We entered the building we were sprayed with scented based sanitizer without asking whether or not we preferred an unscentedbscented option or had our own.The latter would have been preferred as it was very hard to enjoy any of the products!due to the heavy scent. Most disappointing was the lack of rest rooms. Clearly if you can be wiping down surfaces and having a business you can organize how to sanitize a bathroom. We had to drive to a public park for me to wash off the scent of the spray hand sanitizer. I had hoped to purchase gifts here but left with such a headache from the sanitizer that I then went elsewhere to purchase gifts. They need to respect that people may not want smell like perfume all day.

We went on 8/12, it was such a beautiful day too. The family went on the ferry and brought our car with us. Which was a good idea. When we got there, you could rent bikes, ATV's to get around Washington island. We were glad that we made the visit to Lavender farm. Unfortunately we missed most of the Lavender fields. But there was a smaller section that they didn't harvest yet, which had the white and purple Lavender still. They were so beautiful. We also checked out the Lavender store which had the bakery everyone was talking about. It was a great experience and great weather to go along.

The women who own and run the store were very nice and helpful. They told us the story behind all of the jewelry and where it came from. Awesome. I feel like I could have purchased, read, and enjoyed every book in the store. It's that kind of place. The owner cast her magic over it and us. When every neighborhood has a bookstore like this, we will be an enlightened society. "Hope asks something of us. The Jackson Harbor Maritime Museum on Washington Island offers a glimpse into the area's maritime history, showcasing artifacts from its commercial fishing past and providing insights into the operations of the ferry line service since the early 1900s. The museum features displays on Coast Guard, Ferryline, and local shipwrecks, along with photographs and videos documenting the region's maritime heritage.
I recently visited the Jackson Harbor Maritime Museum on Washington Island, WI. It's a small museum but has a very good history of fishing on the Island. I was lucky to get a guided tour which gave me more information. I was shown the engines of the fishing boats, info on the nets used. They had a nice display of outboard motors. A nice easy place to visit while on the island at no expense.

WIS-CO Washington Island Coffee is a popular spot on Washington Island, known for its cozy atmosphere and delicious coffee. Locals frequent this cafe for their old-fashioned lattes and honey lattes, as well as the delectable pastries available in the morning. The cafe also offers breakfast sandwiches and sweet treats to accompany your caffeine fix. Additionally, visitors can't miss the giant coffee pot sculpture near the ferry dock, symbolizing the strong connection between Washington Island and coffee.
They're open early, and they serve pretty good coffee and decent breakfast sandwiches. Picked up a sausage, egg, and pepper jack cheese sandwich as well as a Mediterranean Sammy. The breakfast sandwich was pretty darn dry with a slightly disproportionate bread-to-filling ratio, but it got the job done and served its purpose, wherein it successfully satiated my hunger. The sausage patty itself was quite fantastic, but its greatness was dimmed by the ambient dryness of the ample bun and powdery egg yolk on the well-done sunny side up egg. Im guessing that maybe they're not usually like that, and I just happened to grab one that has been neglected by the sandwich gods. The Mediterranean Sammy was quite decent. Exquisite, one might even say. Decided to go with this one because it came with arugula, and I am in dire need of some form of vegetation in my body, as per my doctor's request. The feta, cherry tomatoes, and kalamata olives really added to the completeness of the sandwich, which was brought together into perfect union from the drizzle of sweet dressing saturating the contents of the Sammy. Overall, their food is quite all right. Their service is a-okay, and their workers bear the demeanor of people who wake up much earlier than you do, which is perfectly fine because that is an endearing quality to have. And they're open rather early if you're one of those folks whose day starts at the absolute buttcrack of dawn, and you require sustenance in order to become a semi-functional human being. Come check them out. Cheers!

Was so happy to hear that this place opened up - there had only been one coffee shop on the island last time we visited. But this place is great! Open very early and I loved that they had ready to go sandwiches for breakfast. We got a flavored latte and regular coffee, both were great and very quickly made. Despite how busy it was here, the staff did a great job managing all the orders and the wait was not long for drink or food. And they have a penny smashing machine! Pretty sure it's the only one on the island I've ever seen, but was very happy they had it. There's plenty of seating inside and outside. S'mores latte was heavenly!

Island Adventure Company offers a variety of outdoor rental options, including four- and six-person UTVs with roof racks for transporting kayaks and paddleboards. Renters must be 25 or older, and ATV/UTV operators born after January 1, 1988, need a state-issued safety certificate. They also provide guided kayak tours in Green Bay waters and boat tours. Visitors can explore Washington Harbor on private kayak tours with knowledgeable guides.
We rented two e-bikes to get out and explore Washington Island while for four hours and it was awesome. I debated on a scooter rental or just driving the car, but I think we made the right choice with the bikes. Four hours was almost a enough time to see everything we wanted, including spending over an hour at Jackson Harbor Soup for some lunch. The bikes do about 20mph as the top speed in Turbo mode and are a great way to take in the sites, smells, and even the temperature differences on both sides of the island. No issues with cars coming too close, or road hazards on the island and everything was great. If we go back I'll definitely be doing the e-bike tour again and probably do it for the full day rental so we could have spent more time relaxing at some of the beaches and maybe see a few more things.

We rented a UTV for the day. Let me just say this was the absolute best experience we had in Door County! We decided to leave our car on the mainland and just catch the ferry on foot. Island Adventure Company is an easy walk from the ferry. Connie checked us in and provided a map and so many tips that we kept busy for the entire 8 hours. They welcomed our furry friend as well. Washington Island is such a gem. Many businesses allow dogs on the outdoor patio space but many destinations do not accommodate a furry friend, so check ahead if bringing fido. Most beaches allow a dog on a leash. School House Beach did not. However, we were able to park close and still take turns seeing the stunning beach. Thank you Island Adventures for letting us explore your beautiful, quaint and quiet island.

We rented three ebikes for a couple of hours ride on Washington Island. Excellent service, easy to rent, easy to return. The three bikes we rode were all well tuned, and worked perfectly. The staff took the time to explain how everything worked. Their location is very short walk (like two minutes) from the ferry dock, and there is plenty of parking if you have a car. Highly recommended!
Matthew E — Google review
Give 5 stars because the bikes were a joy to ride. You need to get to the fairly early because they fill up. Not a bad wait as we were the second to last to get on the ferry and had to wait for the next. 3 running so not long. Called to let them know we would be later getting to pick up the bikes and they said not a problem. Rode from 11:00 to 2:30 and got tired. Had not ridden in over 15 years. The electric bike was fun and easy to shift gears as the shifter did a click to get up or down in gears. Bikes are not throttled but use peddle assist. You could feel the boost as you push harder on the peddle. Manager was very thorough in explaining how to use the electronic. Power on and left and right turn signal and the hydraulic brakes worked the brake light.

Second time we have rented from them and very happy with quality of the equipment. We rented e-bikes last summer and a UTV this summer. Shout out to Mads who helped us out, our machine had a problem during the rental, but we just called them back and they sent Mads right out to fix it. Jackson Harbor Ridges State Natural Area is a must-visit spot on Washington Island. The park offers a unique beach experience at SchoolHouse Beach with its swimming raft and unusual rock beach. The shallow sand bottom of Jackson Harbor Ridges warms up quickly, making it perfect for a dip. This ecologically significant area supports rare plants and diverse animal life, and features an old fisherman's house set up as a museum nearby.
A fabulous walk along the beach. You get to see the place where the waves move in many different directions. Sandpipers, fossils, and mountains of zebra muscles-Oh, My!

Secluded and scenic beach and dunes. Saw eagles, garter snakes, crawdads, and other critters.
Rick J — Google review
Nice little beach to check out with some rare plants and a old fisherman's house set up as a museum close by to check out. It's also only a road away from the ferry so if you're looking for a public bathroom or something to do for a little bit while waiting for the ferry its definitely worth checking out to burn some time.

Nice quiet walk until a group came with a dog.

Best beach in Wisconsin but beware of the rattle snakes along the path in. Only enter with pants and a anti venom kit.

Horse riding school
Field Wood Farm is a picturesque destination on Washington Island, offering scenic trail rides through woodsy paths on rare and hypoallergenic Icelandic horses. The farm also provides pony rides and lessons for visitors of all abilities, including those with special needs. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of the island while meandering through trails on horseback or letting little ones experience pony rides. The owner is accommodating and offers insights into the history of the horse breed and life on Washington Island.
My wife and I saw the add for the Icelandic Horses while visiting Washington Island. We drove past the place a couple of times and then called the phone number provided to get directions. It turned out that we were actually in front of her drive way. She explained to us that she currently was not letting people ride the horses but she was happy to show them. We stopped by her home which was on the left of the main driveway where she then lead us to the area where her horses were being kept. Due to some unfortunate health issues she has incurred the place was not as pristine as I am sure it once was, but that in no way took away from the joy of meeting this unusual horse breed. I recommend that anyone in the area that likes animals, especially horses should stop by for a visit. I suggest calling first to make sure she is home. She does not require any fee for visiting the horses, but will accept a donation to help her purchase feed and for Vet care. This nice lady will give you a very detailed history lesson of these beautiful and gentle horses.
Jonathan M — Google review
The place is very very run down, the horses could be beautiful but they are kept in a very small and filthy pen and they appear to be under fed and very dirty. My heart broke seeing these animals in these conditions, it was our first time to Washington island and hers was our very first stop, we couldn't wait to get out of there, info in the brochure is very deceiving. Washington island is a very beautiful place and I'm surprised someone has not stepped up to fix this terrible situation!
Andrea M — Google review
We took our youngest grandchildren (3 & 5) to see the Icelantic horses. The owner lead us back to the barn area even though she was experiencing medical issues. She gave us a lengthy history of the horse breed, her farm and life on WI. The kids were able to pet and feed the 6-8 horses. The favorite part was watching the horses gallop down to another pasture. My son-in-law got beautiful photos the entire time (2hrs) we were visiting. It was difficult to contact her and meet up but worth it. I hope she continues to improve and can get it back open permanently. Tip her well (voluntarily); it’s for the horses upkeep and health. She surely loves them. We visited in October, 2022.

First, when we seen the handmade trashy sign we did not even want to go in. The sign told us to call and gave a number. We called she said wait 5 mintues then pull down to the end of the path and wait, she will guide us the rest of the way. As we waited we thought this all seemed sketchy, we seen how run down everything was. Broken and rusty fences, old chairs, junk, just garbage laying all over the property. We were about to leave when we seen a vehicle coming down the path. She rolled down her window and started yelling at us for having our side by sides running. She had us follow her to where the horses were. She started rambling about taking her pills and writing times on her hand, not making a lot of sense. We finally got to the horses and were heart broken at what we saw.Their pen was so small and dirty, full manure, a dishoveled mess. While she talked we all were thinking about what we need to do for these poor horses! They were dirty and looked so sad. Someone need to inspect this place and the horses need to be taken away. I can't believe she is actually on the explore Washington Island sites. Something needs to be done. We will be making complaints to the chamber of commerce and to other proper authorities.
Randy B — Google review
If I could give a negative star I would , this place needs to be closed! Those poor horses! They live in filth and are so dirty! The entire place is a hoard mess. This needs to be shut down and animals need to be taken away!
Jill B — Google review
Appears to be no longer in operation. There was no sign indicating the farm on the side of the road and there were “keep out” signs part way down the driveway.

Mountain Tower offers a challenging yet rewarding experience for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The journey to the tower is adorned with vibrant fall foliage, providing a picturesque backdrop. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted with a series of wooden stairs leading to the top, where they can enjoy panoramic views of roadways, island landscapes, and distant waters. The ascent may be demanding but promises stunning vistas of Washington Island, Rock Island, and Lake Michigan on clear days.
Mountain Tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of Washington Island and Lake Michigan! Climbing to the top is easy, and the scenery is worth every step. A must-visit spot for nature lovers and photographers.

Very cool views and decently maintained area overall. The walk up the stairs could be a bit daunting for some but overall it wasn’t too bad. The views are nice toward the lake and overall I can’t think of a better way to take in the landscape. The area can get overwhelmed quickly on the parking and I wish the gravel was paved but overall a good experience
WI B — Google review
Mountain tower was cool. But looked like it was falling apart. Some steps missing a ¹/4 piece wood. Not connected to the supporting piece below and some nails that looked like a jigsaw puzzle. - someone had tried a half dozen times and could not get them all in. Plenty of spots to take a break on the walk up. But save your energy you will need it when climbing the tower. I didn't go the whole way up. But I went 3/4 of the way up. I was freaked out by the lack of support structure. I took pictures.
Jim — Google review
The stairs up the mountain are very easy to walk up. The tower is well maintained. The view is amazing! We went after a lot of rain and it was not slippery at all.
Gemma M — Google review
The stairs up the mountain are very easy to walk up. The tower is well maintained. The view is amazing! We went up to the tower after we heard from someone who lives on the island that there was a tornado that came through not too long ago. Many trees are down, but glad the tower was untouched!
Lexie S — Google review
The Washington Island Mountain Tower is always a must-see when you are on the island! It was recently renovated, but still feels a little sketchy (you'll be fine). You take some steps to the top of the hill from the parking area, and then you can walk to the top of the tower and see all of the island! Highly recommend!

Mountain Tower has a lot of steps, but the climb is worth it! The panoramic views from the top are absolutely stunning. A great workout with an unforgettable reward at the summit.

Their quad bicycle Surreys are perfect for two to three passengers and come with a sun-protective fabric cover. In addition to traditional bicycles, they now have seven-speed electric bicycles available. They also offer attachments like baby and dog trailers for added convenience.
Cory and Laura were absolutely amazing! Super kind, funny, and personable. They provide you with a perfect map of places to visit around island with some helpful advice regarding where hills are. Our route was a perfect four hours, but if you want to linger more and eat around I would recommend a full day rental. Our bikes worked great, no issues! Had a fantastic day, thank you Island Rides!
Lizzy P — Google review
We had an amazing time on the island today thanks to Island Rides. I think we discovered the island in a whole new way because we were out in the fresh air all day, stopping when we felt like it, enjoying the lavender fields, eating some food at Jackson Harbor Soup, grabbing ice cream, hiking up to the top of Lookout Tower… but the best part was the TLC that we got from Cory when we were starting our adventure. We had never been on e-bikes before, and he made the whole process comfortable. He is also extremely enthusiastic about the island and helped us map out the perfect ride. I cannot recommend this experience enough.
Janalee C — Google review

Cory & Laura were so kind and helpful! Laura picked us up promptly, and Cory took the time to tell us where to go on the island. He also drove out to give my sister a new bike when she got a flat tire! I would highly recommend working with Island Rides.

We knew we were coming to Washington Island on the ferry and contacted the owner prior to which he was great assisting us where to park and how to find him. He offered to pick us up but we chose to walk as it was only 1.5 miles from the dock. We rented an ebike and he also provided great recommendations on what to see on the island and the optimal routes to take. The bike was in great condition and we had a great day exploring. He also provided us a ride back to the ferry dock completing our great experience with Island rides!

Corey is the absolute best! He took the time to make clear markings on the map with recommended stops. Super easy to find. The bikes were very charming! Make sure to call ahead of time for a reservation. Cell phone reception on the island is spotty!

Bought some popcorn before I left Washington Island this year and it was amazing. I bought a spicy one I believe it was called blazing saddles. It was perfectly popped and consistently covered with flavoring and spice was perfect. I’m now eating a bag off cheese popcorn from the from the gas station and it made me wish I had the popcorn barn popcorn 😭 I noticed they have a website to order and I’m definitely going too. And I’m thinking of getting some as gifts for Christmas 🥰 I love Washington Island and will definitely pop in again next year!!

This is our family’s favorite popcorn store in Door County. We take the ferry over to Washington island to purchase, but we’ve also ordered online and had it delivered too. It’s that good! The owners are so friendly and helpful. They also usually have samples of some of their popcorn flavors, which is nice. We really, really like their theater popcorn…it’s SO GOOD!

First time on the island and so, glad we stopped here!! We ate lunch next door and decided to stop to get popcorn for snack that night. The shop is super cute and there is parking. The young lady at the counter was so, helpful, knowledgeable and a great sales lady. We couldn't decide on exactly we wanted so, we ended up getting 4 bags. We got cherry, dill, parm and loaded baked potato. We are so excited to eat them!! She did let us sample some so, it definitely helped narrow our picks. Definitely recommend stopping in!! You can also, order online.

Little Lake is a charming natural spot that offers a nice trail for visitors to explore. While the trail could benefit from improved markings, it is pet-friendly and provides breathtaking views of the lake. The rocky terrain adds some challenge, but the beauty of the area makes it a must-see destination on the island. It's truly a wonderful piece of nature waiting to be discovered.
It's my favorite spot to head over to on Washington Island for a little reflection, meditation, and general peace and quiet. It is a beautiful location with a quaint dock set on a quaint little lake. Wonderful area to explore and enjoy the local plants and wildlife. It's such a gorgeous gem tucked away up on the island that it is as though it came right out of a Thomas Kinkade painting. It is a sober and relaxing area to be in, like something straight out of one's most serene and tranquil dream. As per usual, be respectful and mind your surroundings, please, and thank you. So come on over and sit for a while. Cheers!
