Nature & Parks
State Parks
Young State Park is a 560-acre natural haven located on the shores of Lake Charlevoix in Boyne City. The park offers various amenities such as beaches, campgrounds, nature trails, and a cedar swamp. Visitors can enjoy the small clean beach, fishing pond, public bathhouse, art installations by the pond, fire pits near the lake, and spacious camping areas with some spots right by the lakeside.
Great place to camp. Nice lake in walking distance, with a park store. Bathrooms and showers. 3 miles from Boyne city, but is very secluded so you don’t feel like you’re close to town. The park is about a half mile from the entrance. Tent camping and rv camping. Boat launch, swings by the beach. Electrical hookup. Benches at each site with a fire pit. Some sites are right on the water. $10 fee to unload your rv. Recreational pass required.

A nighty fine experience! I even had a wild rain storm roll in at 3am that I actually enjoyed lol. This is literally the perfect campground. Very laid back with plenty for the kids to as well. 1 of the most scenic state parks in Michigan.
ADVENTURES H — Google review
Great State Park. Older facilities but who camps for the bathrooms and showers? Great beach and on a beautiful lake.
Richard E — Google review
We love Young State Park. We've been coming here for nearly 30 years. Some of the nicer sites are a bit smaller. We don't mind because of our smaller trailer. My biggest complaint here is that there's just a single dump spot with 2 potable fresh water and a non potable rinse for the dump spot. This makes for a long wait to dump and get water during check in and check out. We enjoy hiking the trail that starts near the boat launch. It's a bit challenging especially after rain, as the trail isn't particularly well maintained. Prepare for mosquitos on the trails. There's a lot to do in the area, from Boyne City to Charlevoix, South to Fisherman's Island and North to Petoskey. All a short trip away. Lots of wine tasting and farmers markets during the warm months. If you like boating and fishing, Lake Charlevoix is great. I like to get drone video of the beautiful water from the boat, since State Parks don't allow you to launch/land in them.
Brandon P — Google review
One of the State Park favorites by far. Clean & quite with beautiful lake views and easy access throughout the Park. Nearby Boyne City with a very nice bike path access. Staff maintains a friendly & visual presence within the park that aids in keeping things under control and safe. Excellent travel destination for any camper.
Mrs. N — Google review
Already took a week off in June to come back. My 2 year old had the best time at the beach. Very clean restrooms
Brittany S — Google review
At Young State Park along Lake Charlevoix's shoreline in Boyne City, Michigan was feet-wetting fun, clean and clear. The sand felt like a tantalizing foot massage.
Mary B — Google review
Very nice campground with decent size sites and lots of trees. Walking distance to Lake Charlevoix with nice beach. Hiking trails weren't marked very well but managed to find my way for over a 4 mile hike. Nice paved bike trail that goes to Boyne City. Not sure exactly how long the bike trail is.

Archery range
Disc golf course
Avalanche Preserve is a stunning 320-acre natural retreat that invites outdoor enthusiasts to immerse themselves in its diverse offerings throughout the year. Whether you're hiking, mountain biking, or enjoying a leisurely jog, this park has something for everyone. With three miles of designated hiking trails and twelve miles of single-track paths, it caters to all skill levels. The preserve also features activities like disc golf, sledding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and archery.
We took the Trail Head near the warming building up to the lookout. The trail was well marked and in good shape considering the recent ice storm/rain. The first 1.5 miles were easy with a few inclines. The remaining 1mile was a pretty consistent rise in elevation which was more of a challenge for our casual hiking experience. The end result was worth every bit of the short hike. There are 2 decks with seating and also stand alone park benches. The views were amazing long range and unobstructed angles.
Jack S — Google review
Spectacular view! Especially during the fall season. I play disc golf here often and it's a fun course, but some the baskets are really far apart. The first 10 are great, but the last bit of the course is quite the hike. Great place to get out and enjoy nature.
Matthew M — Google review
Beautiful views of Lake Charlevoix from the top of the hill. 462 steps to the top! They do have benches to rest on as you go up. So worth the hike to the summit. They have bike trails and hiking trails, as well!
Kathy S — Google review
One of our favorite places to hike and mountain bike. I love that they are separate trail systems - I hate surprising people when I’m on a bike. It’s a climb to the top either way, no doubt, but the view of lake Charlevoix is incredible, in any season. We have snowshoed in the winter and that was great too. If you are hiking, walk up the backside and then take the stairs down.
Mary M — Google review
2.9mi hike around the park. Great outlook spot! Mountain bike trails and frisbee golf course as well.
K M — Google review
If you want to see a most beautiful site and get your steps in, this is a must do attraction. 462 steps to the top not counting all the steps it takes to get to the actual steps. Amazing view and if we could have gone at peak tree color would have been very beautiful. Amazing view over Charlevoix lake. Well worth the drive to find this place. Absolutely amazing!
Terry G — Google review
All I can say is wow the view is phenomenal.
Shannon S — Google review
Beautiful place, i always make a point of hiking/walking at avalanche at least once during every trip to Boyne City (sometimes more than once... Every day!) Has a disc golf course and mountain bike trails. I believe you can snowmobile and snowshoe or ski here during the winter. The view from the top is absolutely beautiful, well worth the ~300+ stairs (or the easier but longer walk up a trail).

Peninsula Beach is a delightful lakeside park that offers the perfect escape for families and nature lovers alike. Nestled just a short stroll from downtown Boyne City, this charming spot features a sandy swimming beach alongside grassy areas ideal for picnics and relaxation. With amenities like restrooms, picnic tables, grills, benches, playground equipment, and even sand volleyball courts, it’s an excellent destination for warm days spent outdoors.
Changing rooms, showers, splash pad; great little park. But why did the city name the ordinance banning dogs K-9 instead of A-9?
Steve H — Google review
Nice small quiet park, with swimming area and ability to fish. Just stay away from any of the marina property/piers/water. They will politely ask you to stop/move. Our boys only caught a few small fish, but we did see others catch a couple larger fish.
Tim R — Google review
Nice and relaxing beachside area. The algae is plentiful in the water which makes me question the safety of swimming. It's a small beach, but when I visited it wasn't crowded at all.
Lewis F — Google review
Pristine and beautiful. Wilderness State Park is a gem that's worth a visit. White sand that is softer than down state, Lake Michigan. On the beach are pretty yellow wildflowers. You can see the land mass of the UP from the beach here I didn't go swimming.as it's a tad too cold for me. Not very crowded, either
Hallie H — Google review
The splash pad and outdoor showers to rinse didn't work, but that may get fixed. The water can be a bit yucky near the rocks. It is a nice beach otherwise.
Nicole B — Google review
Kids loved it! Nice clear water. A little splash pad and a little playground all togther. Restrooms available as well. Great spot to just spend the day or wear out the kiddos!
Travis L — Google review

Playground
Old City Park is a beautifully maintained outdoor space in Boyne City. The park features playground equipment for children, a charming gazebo, and benches for relaxation. Visitors can stroll along the riverfront walkway and admire a water statue while enjoying the shade provided by the park's trees. Despite occasional issues with litter around the gazebo, the park offers free parking and even an EV charger.
Beautifully maintained park. The most recent event we attended was the Pirate Festival, which was AMAZING! All of the activities and photo opportunities were wonderful and free! Everyone was so friendly... and festive! The kids loved everything, as did the adults. We will definitely be back next year and dressed like pirates! Thank you, Boyne City, for such a great time!
Lois B — Google review
This park is our favorite shaded park in the area! 🫶 The river, park, gazebo, and wishing well keep my kiddos entertained for HOURS and helps us get out outside time in! It is always clean, aside from the fishing areas where you will find many hooks, lines, and bobbers. The park is always safe and well shaded for hot sunny days.
Shelby T — Google review
Nice, shady park for families to enjoy the outdoors. There are steps that lead right down to the water but there is a current. Not too far of a walk from the lake.
Shannon E — Google review
Usually pretty quiet playground and it was this evening.
Ron S — Google review
The city has attempted to do a nice job keeping the park clean and nice for all to enjoy. There are a few pieces of playground equipment the little ones can use, and a gazebo to sit, relax, and enjoy some shade. It's unfortunate some less than responsible individuals use the gazebo for their social gatherings and leave their garbage behind. We stopped there in an attempt to enjoy ice cream in the park, but the closest ice cream place has closed. I would recommend a stroll through town or a visit to another park if you're looking for treats and to spend a significant amount of time.
Karen G — Google review
Great place! My daughter loves to Rollerblade near the River!
Paula W — Google review
It has a nice gazebo to hang out in, benches, a play area, as well as a walkway along the riverfront that includes a water statue. There's also an EV charger in the lot and free parking.

We get the kayaks out of the river here and it's a really nice place to do it. You can park your car there to haul them back to the beginning and it's pretty clean.

It’s such a cool place and so excited that they have such a phenomenal talent playing right there! If you’re a big music fan check out Martin Sexton I believe he is playing freshwater on May 18 or 19th. Phenomenal artist John Mayer called him the best songwriter of our time .

Honestly the coolest place in the tip of the mitt. Wonderful art and cottage items to outfit your place up north at reasonable prices. Covers the spectrum from woodsy to eccentric. And the most fun place to see music I have ever been at. Tony and Robin have it happening here, and they are a treasure to Boyne City and the area

Bowling at BC Lanes & The Venue Sports Bar and Grill offers a unique and enjoyable experience, distinct from traditional outings to bars and clubs. It is particularly well-suited for large groups of people seeking fun activities. The bowling alley itself is modern and impeccably clean. Moreover, the establishment provides other exciting options like laser tag, making it an excellent choice for teenagers or those looking for additional entertainment. The staff members are friendly, with one employee even sharing their impressive pinball record story.
2pm Saturday. Perfect service. Great prices. Lanes in good shape. Pro shop open. Old school touches everywhere. Excellent bar. 90s tunes, not too loud. Icing on top: comet pinball from 1985 in good working order. A slice of heaven on earth!
Gary G — Google review
The Bowling here was good. Most of the staff we encountered here were great as well with the exception of our waitress. We decided to have dinner before we bowled... granted we were a larger group, this particular waitress had very little interest in taking care of us. I seldom leave bad reviews because I normally like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but the service was that bad and there was no excuse for it. I wish we would have ate dinner while we bowled because the lady taking care of us on that side was kind and attentive. Would not recommend dining here based off that experience.
Desirae M — Google review
We went to celebrate my husbands ten years in business during the busiest time of year and the bowling staff was phenomenal! We had so much fun! There was great food, service and music as well as enthusiastic staff members celebrating my husband's success in giving him a bowling pin with everyone's signatures and well wishes! Thanks to all the staff at Boyne city Lanes!
Courtney H — Google review

What a great place to take the family to bowl. Super cute area with a restaurant/bar right behind the bowling lanes, also they have laser tag!
Crystal W — Google review
Good Friday fish fry. Also enjoy the breakfast buffet on the weekend. Good entertainment place.
David S — Google review
The bartender was so rude we almost left before we had a chance to bowl. It seemed like we were annoying her when we ordered anything, asked for drinks etc. Maybe try another profession if you are going to be outright mean and rude to people. The bowling was fine, the pizza was decent and overall I would rate the place 4/4.5 if it wasn't for the poor service.
MrErohloff — Google review
Awesome!!! Took our crew of 5 teens for bowling & laser tag. The gentleman who got us set up for bowling was cool, gave the kids the run down after for laser tag and shared his story about his record for pinball! Stellar! Our waitress was amazing and very attentive to us and our birthday crew. The bar is great with a wall of glass to watch the kiddos as well! Very fun and will for sure be coming back. Riverside Park in Boyne City offers a serene and natural setting for visitors to enjoy the beauty of Bear River. Spanning 5 acres, this park features rustic campsites, boat launches, and riverside walking trails. It's a tranquil spot where you can often spot deer and various bird species, including two resident swans. The slow river current allows for leisurely canoeing and kayaking upstream, with sandy areas perfect for wading into the water.
It’s a great natural park. I always see a few deer and tons of different birds. Two swans inhabit the large section of river. It’s always peaceful and quiet. There is water access for canoeing and kayaking. The current is slow enough, allowing you to paddle upstream a mile or two. You can bring a chair out into the water and stand in waist deep water. It’s sandier than I expected.

The Boyne Valley Trailway Trailhead offers an inviting 6.3-mile paved pathway that is perfect for a variety of outdoor activities, connecting the charming towns of Boyne City and Boyne Falls. This multi-use trail was born from the vision of local citizens back in 2000, aiming to create a scenic route that would eventually link to Charlevoix.
This is a great trail that goes from Boyne City to the Boyne Mountain Resort.

Lavender Hill Farm, a family-owned farm since 1882, boasts over eight varieties of lavender flowers planted in 2011. The farm is a sought-after venue for weddings, offering a picturesque setting amidst the fragrant lavender fields and an expansive barn for gatherings. Visitors can enjoy leisurely tours on golf carts led by passionate college students who share insights about the farm and its products.
Perfect way to spend part of a day. Encourage everyone to take the cart tour. For $8.00 per person you can see the rows and rows of lavender, learn about so many different types of lavender, how the plants are taken care of, the many benefits lavender provides and, if you're really lucky, get to have Morgan as your guide. Every member of the staff that we encountered was friendly and knowledgeable. Allie being the first to greet us, Eric entertaining us with his story and the ladies in the gift shop taking extra time to help us find the right items were much appreciated. Highly recommend the lavender cookies, they're delicious.

Lavender Hill Farm is a really nice place to visit. Well laid out and small enough for the most part that you can easily take it all in, in one go around. Our tour guide Layla was very knowledgeable about the inner workings of the farm and lavender overall! The thing that stuck out to me the most was the fantastic smell of the whole farm. The wind just smells of sweet lavender and that was very pleasant to the senses I must say. Definitely will be back again when we are up this way.

Amazing place to visit if you’re in town! This beautiful lavender farm has no entry fee and offers affordable treats like lavender shakes and ice cream, both delicious. I absolutely loved their charming little shop, one of the best lavenderly designed I’ve seen, and the washroom floors are uniquely made of coins! It can get busy during the day, but they have additional parking about 100 meters away. I highly recommend enjoying the lavender garden, indulging in their ice cream, and taking in the gorgeous views. They also host shows during the busy season, check their website for details. We visited in the first week of August and had a great time. There’s also a paid tour if you’re interested, plus a small trail for a leisurely walk. Plan to spend at least 30–45 minutes here to truly enjoy the experience and more if you want to take lots of photographs.

Lavender Hill Farm blossoms may have passed, yet the huge area's fragrance still filled one with calmness. The outbuildings offered behind the scenes information on production. The abundant gift shop offered a delightful array of goodies! Their lavender shortbread cookies taste heavenly! I visited twice too buy more! I was amazed at the women's bathroom floor! 😂

I recently visited Lavender Hill Farm in Boyne City, Michigan and had a pleasant time. The farm is beautiful and peaceful, with a lovely atmosphere and lots of great lavender-themed products. They offer a golf cart for a small fee per person to tour around the lavender hills! In the gift shop I picked up quite a few souvenirs to take home—everything was well-made and smelled amazing! I want to mention Kimberly, the cashier, who kindly packed each of my gifts in separate bags just as I requested. It was a small but thoughtful gesture that I appreciated. Overall, it’s a charming place and definitely worth a visit if you enjoy lavender or are looking for unique local gifts.

Beautiful location to wander around! My kids and I enjoyed the lavender lemonade spritz and lavender shortbread cookies while sitting in a fairy garden overlooking the lavender fields. Nice gift shop. Best enjoyed with your own picnic and during one of their concerts, or on a nice day when you want to wander through the best smelling fields.

We stopped by here during our vacation in Boyne Falls. Everyone was so welcoming and informative. They had bingo in the event barn, which sounded fun! We opted for a golf cart tour with George who was very knowledgeable and inviting. Then we did a u-pick bundle, took a stroll and then grabbed some drinks (iced lavender latte, lavender lemonade fizz and lavender sweet tea) and had lunch on the porch overlooking the lavender fields. Afterwards, we went inside to shop a little. Everything was so beautiful and every time the wind blows you smell the sweet lavender. Side note: As cattle farmers ourselves we loved to learn that this place used to be a dairy farm. I’m so glad we opted to visit during our trip! We would definitely return in the future if we are ever up this way.

Beautiful lavender farm kinda in the middle of nowhere. Facilities and grounds look amazing, they sell everything you can think of with lavender. You can do guided tours and pick your own bunch of lavender. They have an outdoor amphitheater and an indoor venue for various events. Definitely worth the stop!

Nice park with lots of activity options, as the sign at the roadside says. There are tennis and pickleball courts, ball fields and soccer fields. The city page and the sign says there are trails too. There is a very minimal playground as well. The city page also says there's concession building with restrooms that's open during sporting events. I couldn't find a designated parking, so I parked along the drive that winds into the park but I'm not sure how that's enough during busy time. There's a cool Boyne City sign along the road as well.

Really beautiful and clean tennis courts. It can get busy in the summer, so i recommend going early. Everyone else who played was nice, the energy at the courts very friendly. I will be frequently visiting next summer, looking forward to it! Great work Boyne!

Great pickleball courts (4), a couple of tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, and a little bit of playground equipment. If you live in Boyne City and have kids playing sports, you'll probably feel like you live here part time. The younger sibling amenities could use an upgrade.

Stopped by on a Thursday , drove past winery, up towards the house , because I didn’t realize the winery was in the front building. There was a woman pulling weeds in a flower bed next to the driveway. We stopped and she told us that the winery was actually closed but if we were interested she would open it up for us. We drove back down and met her at the front door, was amazed that she would do this. Yes , she only had 6 wines but they were very good. We actually had a lovely, long talk with her and learned that her husband had always wanted a winery and now that they have one he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and is unable to help run the business . She is an amazing person to be running a business, taking care of her husband, and being a very caring Grandmother. We very much enjoyed the wine and the conversation!! If you get the opportunity to stop here it will be worth your time . The “open “ hours are tough due to her schedule, but definitely worth it !!

This place is closed! We just put them in our wine tour and wasted our clients time and money, because it says open.

It was ok...they have about 6 wines all of which were from very to semi dry. There "sweet" wines are not terribly sweet. Was able to try 3 for $5. Decent size glasses. We actually had a free glass as well. Owner stopped by and we had a nice conversation.
Keith J — Google review
We loved this quaint little winery. My husband and I had a wonderful time trying their delicious wines and chatting with Susan. Highly recommend! I’m not a big fan of white wine, but theirs was so good - we bought two bottles! A fun day activity in Charlevoix.
Sarah K — Google review
Unfortunately we drove 45 minutes on a Sunday and the winery was closed though their website showed it open. Call ahead with these gas prices. Would have loved to tried some different wines.
Leann C — Google review
The wines were surprisingly good. John should be an inspiration to us all in creating such a great operation, tasting room, and great wines. He is an inspiration to me and my wife for his accomplishments...so much so that we have now planted 300 of our own vines down state! Thank you John. Hope our wines will be as good as yours.
