Nature & Parks
Park
Causland Memorial Park is a charming urban oasis nestled in the heart of Anacortes, showcasing a delightful blend of nature and community spirit. Established between 1920 and 1926 under the vision of architect Jean LePage, this park features vibrant stone mosaics crafted from native rocks sourced from Fidalgo Island and its surroundings. It serves as a tribute to Harry Leon Causland, a local hero who lost his life during World War I, along with 13 other brave souls.
A really beautiful little park. A nice place for a picnic under the trees or for the kids to run around on the grass. It's a small park, not much else to do, but the walls are such cool works of art. Definitely worth a visit!
Sarah M — Google review
What a unique 2 acre park, a full square block. Picnic tables, terraces, a cannon, an amphitheatre/ bandstand, a grass yard with lovely trees. The structures were built out of locally gathered different types and colors of rocks. I noticed really large pieces of what looked like white quartz. Many designs were made; hand placed, and set in cement. I've never seen anything like this. And what a lovely town with big personality.
Wildcraft R — Google review
Beautiful peaceful park. Wonderful memorial in the center and truly magical rock art. We all loved it. A few parking spaces and excellent photo ops.

This ia an amazing place to visit. I was in awe of the memorials and all the stone work. I would live to see a concert at this venue.

My teenage son and I had such a great time with Captain Brett…what a friendly and knowledgeable guide! We had a fantastic experience and went home with really great memories and plenty of beautiful salmon…book your excursion! You won’t regret it with R&R!
Tami V — Google review
I can't say enough about how pleased we were with our Halibut fishing charter!!! Capt. Brett and his wife were very professional and made us comfortable and taken care of start to finish. Capt. Brett shared his knowledge and passion for what he does. We developed a great appreciation for the surrounding beauty. He made sure to take care of every detail. He treated us like family. This trip has been on my dream bucket list for many years, not only the fishing, but the experience with my family. This was a dream come true. Brett put us on the fish and we all got to experience catching one. Thank you!

Went out with Brett on a morning Salmon fishery. Had a great time! caught our limit AND caught and released probably another 10 fish. This guy knows his stuff!. On top of that he is a real nice guy and we had great conversation all day. Would recommend R & R charter for sure and plan on booking a Halibut trip in the future.
Bobby J — Google review
Amazing day out on the water and epic fishing! Communication before the trip via email and phone was prompt, especially when the king salmon season ended earlier than anticipated. Check-in was efficient and easy, including buying our licenses. Our captain was knowledgeable, friendly, and did everything possible to make the trip enjoyable and boy, did he bring on the fish!!! Smiles and lifetime memories. We will absolutely be back for another day of fishing with this professional company.
Jennifer B — Google review
Our group of six had a great day on the water fishing for pinks with Captain Rick. We were into the fish before all the poles were in the water. We had plenty of action all morning and were limited by 10:30am. We also landed about 5 silvers with one hatchery. I was very impressed by the fishery and would recommend R&R Fishing Charters.
Alex M — Google review
Rick was a experienced and hardworking captain. We caught 10 pinks and released 2 kings. It was a beautiful day the scenery was spectacular. The boat and fishing gear worked great and was large enough for out group of 4.

Marine Supply & Hardware has a rich history, dating back to 1907 when it housed various businesses. Established in 1920 by Mike Demopoulos, the store is still run by the Demopoulos family. It's a unique shopping destination in Anacortes, featuring an eclectic mix of new and salvaged items, practical supplies, clothing, garden decor, and even a coffee roasting service.
This is rare gem. Not many places like this left in the US and unfortunately it may too shut their doors for good - not due to a lack of business but that the building for this place needs $3.5M to restore as structural issues plague it from age (building and business have been around for 111 years) as well as negligence from previous and current owners (currently owned by the Port of Anacortes). This place is like a maritime antique shop yet also has so many various parts and rare hardware. This place is one tourists go to. This is one that makes Anacortes unique. We are trying what we can to save it but it might be too little too late. Either way, if you get a chance to visit this place before it closes its doors for good I highly recommend doing so. I have rarely found such a marine type store, uet with all their plethora of hardware and other items this is a true one of its kind and potentially last to stand. I love this place, the feeling, and the smell. Experience this place before it is too late - potentially October or November of this year (2024). I've included one of the rare such items that I had to grab before I no longer could.
Andrew K — Google review
Even if you don’t want to buy any stuff, it’s still very fun to visit this store. A lot of antiques and beautiful vintage stuff. People are nice and helpful. We got a very nice vintage earrings for my wife and she loves them.

What an awesome store. It was a cold and rainy Sunday and our group had a wonderful time wandering through the store. The lady running the shop was delightful!
Micah P — Google review
Organized, cute takeaways, tourist enjoyable to explore the gazillion things about living a boating Salish Sea life. Excellent nautical maps.
Sage L — Google review
This is a really fun place to look around and shop! Sad to see this store will be closing soon. Until then 50 and 75 percent off of all things.
Tonya B — Google review
What a great day it was to re-discover Anacortes and one of its shopping and browsing cornerstones: Marine Supply & Hardware, which also houses The Alley Cat. Eclectic, intriguing, historical with new and salvaged items as well as practical supplies, clothing & garden decor. Not the huge inventory of its previous incarnations, but certainly worthy of a shopping bag (or two). And Coffee – roasted to order in the store. Added bonus is the location: it’s like a perfect bookend at the end of the main street. Take time to park & walk a few blocks so you can enjoy the water views. Great proximity to some local trails as well! A big thanks also to store hosts Terri and Joanne; pretty sure they can locate any (inventory) item in under 2 minutes! Their casual and friendly attitude reflects a welcome, relaxed pace. Definitely a go-to for visitors and a continuing staple for locals. Sonia & James Harvey Burlington, WA

SCREW & LASH - THIS is the place for brass and stainless steel screws. Staff said hello and was approachable, yet not especially engaging. Great place to wander. You will get "hooked" once you start. Pricing was "OK", but on the high side for most of the tourist stuff (according to my expert shopper). Amazing boatyard just around the corner!

What a great gem! My daughter and I loved it, the staff is so attentive, and I even got to look at some archive files concerning a topic I was interested in. The new photography exhibit is great!

Interesting but really small. Most of what was on display was for a future rotating exhibit that didn't have any info on it, and there was very little about the history of the town itself

The library offers a spacious and comfortable environment with plenty of windows, seating, and a wide selection of items to borrow. Visitors can also find affordable second-hand books for sale managed by Friends of the Libraries, as well as free books and magazines. Additionally, there is a shelf of canned goods for those in need displayed at the entrance.
One of the best libraries in Washington State. It has a room full of very affordable second hand books for sale managed by Friends of the Libraries. There are some free books and magazines as well. Also, there is a a shelf of canned goods for th3 needy displayed right before the inner entrance. The restrooms are clean. The whole library area is super clean and has the comfortable, warmth ambience. All the personnel are pleasant and helpful.

Fantastic staff and a very cozy atmosphere. I love the modern look and feel of the building. However, the noise level can be a real issue. I come here to study and read, like most people do in a library, but it’s often difficult to focus. On Saturdays, especially, there are lots of kids running around, screaming, and yelling, sometimes right next to you. It is actually quite irritating when you're deep in a study sesh. Additionally, some visitors (not staff) treat the library as a social hangout, walking up to random people who are reading or studying to chat and crack jokes completely unprompted. I try to be polite, but it’s frustrating to be interrupted when I was just minding my own business. Other than the noise level, this library is FANTASTIC. However, the lack of a quiet environment and the ability to study undisturbed is a major issue.
Simply_Scout — Google review
My visit to the library allowed a first-hand look at the community's most valuable resource. Spacious, plenty of windows, comfortable seating, and abundant items to borrow. My good friend did much of the interior finish construction, which personalized my visit. For the brief time I spent inside this well-appointed public library, I left knowing that the residents of Anacortes had evidence of the best use of taxpayer dollars! Enthusiastically recommended.
Gary F — Google review
The Anacortes Public Library is a very nice community library with friendly and helpful staff. I was able to send several files to print from their online print service. Cheryl helped me to understand how to pay for and print my pages after arriving. I definitely recommend visiting them for your local library needs.
Tiffany B — Google review
The library staff is friendly and do a lot to make the library an inviting space for all. Housed in a gorgeous light-filled building decorated with original with inviting landscaping and a pleasant atmosphere. It does tend to get rather loud inside and due to the open nature of the building it is hard to read or study especially on Saturdays. They've recently updated the computers, which is helpful. The collection is somewhat limited and several times I've turned books/ etc in and they did not get scanned back in properly so I had to go into the library and find the item on the shelf, but overall a nice public library.
H.K. K — Google review
We just moved to a nearby town which participates in the Skagit Valley Library Passport program, so we get to enjoy going here even if we don't live in Anacortes. It's a beautiful library with MANY great children's books! I have an avid reader that is 11 and one just starting to read at 6. Plenty of selection for both. Good amount of parking, clean outside the neighborhood and feels safe (can't say the same about some of the other libraries in the county) The people that work there are friendly and very helpful. We love coming here!
Sarah W — Google review
The building is gorgeous, and the staff is always so friendly and helpful. When I say their selection is wide, I mean W I D E. Need a book or audiobook? Of course they have it they're a library. You can get it digitally or physically. What about music a movie? They have those too, and also videogames!! Need a puzzle or a STEM kit to strengthen young minds? They've got it! Their vast collection and their broad selection of activities and programs make this my favorite place to go in Anacortes. It's beautiful and tranquil, and I always feel my best when surrounded by books.
Levi S — Google review

I love WPC. When we lived in anacortes, we attended here. Our kids were in the musical Godspell which was so beautiful. Years ago. I hosted a musician friend to come to anacortes and hold a musical service here- and it was a gift. The Anacortes American, established in 1890, has been operating from its current location since 1916. The publisher, J.M. Visitors have praised the friendly and helpful staff at the front desk when they visited the office.

Just in the 8 months I've lived in Anacortes my city bill has gone up 15$ every month. I finally decided to confront the billing department about this issue and after a short merry go round of discussion the woman at the office admitted to me that consumption makes up less than 10% of your actual bill. I found out that no matter that the absolute lowest bill you could ever have from the city, meaning you don't actively live in your house at all and never turn on the faucet...109$ When I signed my lease at the place I rent I guaranteed the city 109$ every month regardless of whether or not I'm using any services. That price is higher than my gas and electric bill is every month... The woman who came from.the back who clearly looked like she wanted to get into an argument gave me the whole "we live in a society " cop out defense mechanism. "We need this money to pay for infrastructure, do you want clean water?" An absolute cop out, any government worker that has to push these abstract concepts in order to defend something that's clearly a scam, knows for sure what they're doing. Funny thing is PSE and Cascade gas also have that infrastructure and work force and somehow don't need to have outrageous costs. Over 90% of my bill at cascade isn't "the minimum either. It actually depends on my usage. If you have a $125 bill in the city of Anacortes. Almost 90% has nothing to do with your usage and is guaranteed to the city regardless of consumption. I also found out that garbage is mandatory at every home you can't opt out of the service. My garbage can is so small it can't hold three small garbage bags of barbage in it. She told me one that can hold 3 is an additional ten dollars a month. It's very clear that this place is just yet another government beast that's eating millions in to God knows what. Be advised that the workers here are on edge and are aggressive. They don't like questions. I'm very upset with the city and after not even a year here I feel like I'm just being scammed.

I called to see how to get rid of an old vacuum. The phone system that is supposed to make getting information better, is the slowest thing I ever heard. It's long and if you don't know who you want, you stay on the line until the end. Then a person answers. You tell what you want and they transfer you to someone else. A person answers and you tell them what you want and they transfer you to another person and guess what? You have to leave a message, which may be answered or not. The city should dump all of this electronic junk, and go back to a PBX switchboard. They were always faster. I never did get my question answered!
