Easy to reach with parking nearby, it’s one of Victoria’s most frequented spots. Its a memorable experience for all of us.

We just loved this castle!! What beautiful architecture and history! Very well preserved and maintained! You need about 2 hours on the minimum side to explore the entire castle. The staff on site are very welcoming and always with a smile, ready to point out some historical facts or just show you directions. The gardens around the castle are wonderful to explore and there is ample parking around the area. We had a lovely time exploring this history!

It’s amazing to see how one of the richest men in British Columbia built this place. He found coal and became super wealthy, then brought all the bricks and materials from his country, piece by piece, to build this incredible castle. The details inside are beautiful, and you can really feel the history. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Victoria!

Home of one of the most rich men of Victoria in the late 19th century, the coal magnate Robert Dunsmuir . Its construction finished in 1890 and it is among the largest and most ornate 19th century mansions in Western Canada. It is amazing to see how this family lived at that time and the house has amazing views. There is a souvenir shop and toilets. Save at least 1h for the visit. It will take you around 20 minutes walk from downtown.
Ana T — Google review
Personally, it wasn’t my favorite place to visit. I felt that the vibe of the place and the symbols I found there were a bit strange or dark. I did enjoy a bit more of the history when it was used as a hospital or as a school. However, they tend to show more of the creepy history of the millionaire’s family who couldn’t see his castle finished. The kids did like it a lot though, so I think it might just be a more personal thing.

Absolutely my favourite castle to visit. I come here anytime I visit Victoria. It’s a great tour you can easily do in an hour. Absolutely breathtaking woodwork inside, the rooms are set up with a lot of the original furniture with a description of what each room was used for in different areas. I would highly recommend this place. It is a lot of fun.my little one loved it!

We walked through on Friday and it was a great self guided tour. The staff were friendly as well, joking a bit with us about the squeeks in the floor. We will return again when we have more time to take it all in and get quality pictures. Interesting history

Beautiful castle with many decorated/ restored rooms and historical information. Loved the stained glass and craftsmanship of the interior stairs and furniture. Worth going, bring a camera as you will take many photos. It was about $25 a person I believe and restrooms and tour pamphlet available with admission.

The British Columbia Parliament Buildings in Victoria are well worth a visit. We went on a weekend and could only see the exterior, but the architecture and grounds were beautiful and imposing. On weekdays, tours are available if you want to go inside.

The Parliament Building in downtown Victoria is absolutely stunning and a must-see when visiting the city. A beautiful and historic parliament building in downtown Victoria. Stunning architecture and some interesting historical details and displays inside. Can be done with a guided tour or self guided. A small gift shop is located at the end of the pathway inside. Makes for a great photo spot and the greenery outside is delightful.

The Parliament building was very clean and well-maintained. Proper security checks were in place, but the staff didn’t impose unnecessary restrictions. Everyone was polite and shared great information about the history. I would definitely recommend visiting the Parliament building if you are traveling to Victoria—it’s a must-see.

The Parliament Building in Victoria is truly a sight to see, especially from the outside. ✨ Its grand architecture, detailed stonework, and lush gardens make it one of the most stunning landmarks in the city. Whether you visit in the daytime, when the building shines under the sun, or at night, when it’s beautifully lit up, it feels like a postcard come to life. What makes it even better is how close it is to other must-see spots. Just a short stroll away, you can enjoy the Inner Harbour with its gorgeous waterfront views, watch street performers, or hop on a harbor tour. Nearby, you’ll also find the Royal BC Museum, Fairmont Empress Hotel, and plenty of local shops and cafés that give the area so much charm. It’s definitely a must-visit if you’re in Victoria—whether you’re sightseeing, taking photos, or just enjoying a peaceful walk around the harbour. 🌿📸

Park
Fisherman's Wharf Park in Victoria, BC, is a delightful waterfront haven that promises an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. As you stroll along the charming floating boardwalks, you'll be captivated by the vibrant atmosphere filled with colorful shops and eateries. This unique destination not only showcases picturesque houseboats but also offers a chance to spot playful seals and other marine life basking in their natural habitat.
What a cool place! Beautiful park for kids right nearby and good food/snacks for everyone. Make sure you take the time to walk all the docks to see the really cool floating houses on the water. I also recommend that you spend some time watching the boats and sea planes land and take off. Will definitely visit here again the next time I am in Victoria!
Maria P — Google review
Very busy but beautiful spot to explore. The float homes are all so cute but I feel terrible that the residents have to deal with such big crowds. We were in and out in after 1-1.5 hrs, great spot for lunch on the water.
Brittany G — Google review
Beautiful spot in Victoria. A most visit attraction. Particularly in the weekend sometimes there is a local band playing nice music. Many different restaurants to choose from. It's also the departure point from whale watching trips and you can also take there the harbour taxi.
Mariam S — Google review
Nestled in the bustling cityscape, Fisherman's Wharf Park offers a serene escape to nature's embrace. A place where the urban and maritime worlds harmoniously intertwine, it presents a unique blend of cultural vibrancy and tranquil green spaces. As you step into the park, you're greeted by the melodious tunes of local musicians and the gentle rustling of leaves. The park is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, providing a picturesque setting for a leisurely stroll or a peaceful afternoon picnic. With its well-maintained pathways and ample seating, it's an accessible retreat for everyone looking to unwind amidst nature. The charm of Fisherman's Wharf Park lies in its simplicity. It doesn't boast grandiose attractions or adrenaline-pumping activities; instead, it offers the simple pleasures of life—a place to sit back, relax, and watch the world go by. The park's proximity to the water's edge allows for stunning views of the harbor, where one can observe the ebb and flow of daily maritime activities. For those with a penchant for history, the park serves as a window to the past. The floating homes and boats anchored nearby tell stories of a vibrant maritime heritage, inviting visitors to delve into the tales of yesteryears. Food enthusiasts can indulge in a variety of culinary delights offered by the takeout food shops within the park's vicinity. From fresh seafood to local treats, there's something to satisfy every palate. In conclusion, Fisherman's Wharf Park may not be grand in size, but it's rich in character. It's a testament to the fact that sometimes, the simplest experiences can leave the most profound impact on our hearts. Whether you're seeking solace, a touch of history, or just a pleasant day out, Fisherman's Wharf Park is well worth a visit.

Wonderful place to visit. We loved the food and the ice cream, went too late to see any shops, but the views were my favorite part. The brightly colored homes in a wide variety of types were fun to admire.

A wonderful location, adding vibrancy to the city of Victoria. This area offers a range of restaurants, cafes, and colorful spots, making it a place worth visiting for anyone exploring the city. A perfect blend of charm and convenience!
Anastasiya L — Google review
This is pretty. Unfortunately we were there on a rainy day. I like colors of shops and houses. I wonder what benefit private home owners get bit allowing visitors walk besides their homes? I do not think it is fun to live there were you would be on the public eyes all the time. I liked seeing houses, shops and water taxes, a pretty picture. We had fish and fries and I did not enjoy fish at all. It was fish with very bland batter and was not tasty at all atheist for me. Overall it is a mist visit place for sure.
Chula R — Google review
Lovely place with colourful buildings on the water. In the place you can see restaurants, ice cream shop, galleries and houses. There are public washrooms in the place. Really nice atmosphere. Next to the place there is a big lawn and small playground. There is a pay parking lot and free parking spots on the street. Highly recommended to visit here.

Victoria’s Chinatown National Historic Site is Canada's oldest Chinese neighborhood, featuring a vibrant mix of restaurants, shops, and colorful architecture. It offers a unique cultural experience with its rich history and lively atmosphere. Visitors can explore the area's local cuisine, charming boutiques, and immerse themselves in the dynamic energy of this historic site. Whether it's indulging in delicious food or admiring the distinctive architectural charm, a visit to Victoria’s Chinatown promises an enriching and enjoyable experience for all.
I enjoy visiting Chinatown in different states and this was just as beautiful in downtown Victoria BC, Canada. Just walking around and seeing the beautiful architecture, murals and sculptures is amazing. You have your gift shops, produce and restaurants to enjoy yourself or with family and friends. There was plenty more to see but I had limited time unfortunately. Love Chinatown.
J S — Google review
Canada’s Oldest Chinatown! I was really impressed by how beautiful and large the gate is in person. There are many restaurant options to choose from, with my favorites being dim sum and duck—they're simply the best! Some places also sell bubble tea, which makes this Chinatown even better. After eating and exploring, you can check out the souvenir shops. I bought a "Victoria’s Chinatown" fridge magnet, and it was worth it. As an Asian, I was pleased to find a Chinese grocery store that had everything we needed for our vacation here in Victoria, BC. On the downside, I found this town is a bit smaller than I had expected before arriving. A pretty short walk around the area will have you seeing the whole town in just a few minutes.
Kyle N — Google review
Victoria’s Chinatown is such a vibrant and fascinating place to explore! As Canada’s oldest Chinatown, it’s full of history, charm, and character around every corner. The colorful streets, beautiful murals, and unique architecture create such a lively atmosphere. There are plenty of interesting shops to browse, from local boutiques to traditional stores, and the restaurants offer delicious food with so many flavors to enjoy. Walking through Fan Tan Alley is a must—it’s narrow, quirky, and full of surprises. A wonderful spot to experience culture, history, and great food all in one!
Kenneth L — Google review
You can really feel the history of early Chinese immigrants here — how they settled, built communities, and shaped the neighborhood over time. After strolling through the area, you’ll also find plenty of cozy spots nearby to sit down for a breather, whether it’s a cup of milk tea or a comforting bowl of Chinese comfort food. 🧋🍜
GSTonyTseng — Google review
It is the oldest Chinatown in Canada and also the one with the narrowest street in the city, Fan Tan Alley. It is a small area comparing to other Chinatowns but it is vibrant. It has good variety of shops, food places, and the chinatown museum. Not to be missed.
Ana T — Google review
Victoria’s Chinatown National Historic Site is the oldest in Canada and second-oldest in North America. Compact but full of character, it offers a glimpse into history with its narrow alleys, red brick buildings, and colorful details. Fan Tan Alley, one of the narrowest streets in the country, is worth walking through for the photo ops and quirky little shops. It’s a mix of the preserved and the modern, with traditional medicine shops alongside trendy boutiques. Best explored on foot and with curiosity.
Val T — Google review
Victoria's Chinatown was designated a National Historic Site in 1981, following some major re-vitalization. It is Canada's oldest surviving Chinatown and originally populated by immigrants coming for the gold rush in California / Canada, and became a gate way for Chinese immigrants ever since. So I was very excited to visit after visiting Chinatown's in San Francisco, Chicago and New York. The architecture surviving from the 19th Century and re-vitalized was a towns cape hardly ever seen any more. Really took you back in time. Such as: Gate of Harmonious Interest, Fan Tan Alley (the narrowest street in Canada and past home to opium and gambling dens), Chinese Public School. Roughly 2-3 block area contains unique shops, and stores featuring a variety of "Asian" items. Yes, this is a "must see" sight, but quite frankly I was disappointed. Entire area, especially most restaurants, appeared dirty and grimy. Most shops were selling shop-worn, junk. While we were really looking forward to a good Chinese meal, we actually walked away and ate elsewhere. "Sorry Charlie."
Roger T — Google review
Although it's still a wonderful experience, it is certainly lost some of its charm over the years. That aside I can still highly recommend it. Fan Tan alley still has a funky stores, and there are some wonderful long term stores still in place. Just picked up a huge stainless steel Wok in one for 25.00, how are you going to beat that? Still a very worthwhile visit.

Nestled in the charming James Bay neighborhood of Victoria, the Carr House National Historic Site is a must-visit for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This beautifully restored home, built in 1863, was once the childhood residence of celebrated Canadian painter and author Emily Carr. Visitors can explore her early life through various exhibits showcasing her artwork and literature. The site also features lovely gardens that reflect Victorian-era aesthetics, providing a serene backdrop for reflection.
The Carr house is kept up beautiful and a must see during opening hours when in Victoria BC. From what I understand they also host workshops for children - that must be so inspiring. Personally I loved the bathroom with windows instead of walls. It’s to dream of! The antique furniture, carpets and upright piano with original paintings against the walls make Emily’s upbringing there touching and personal. Alicia Singh, a heritage interpreter, was so accommodating during my visit and updated me with special opening times during the holidays, shared some stories and showed me around. The souvenir shop was a treasure. I bought coasters, tiles, fridge magnets and a print for myself, but also as gifts. High quality and colourful, I brought home souvenirs of historical evidence - Emily Carr, a woman who made such a meaningful contribution to the arts. Thanks again Alicia for sharing the special opening hours and stories about working there.

Very well preserved and so much information to read. Each room held a story of place and time. Such an interesting experience into the early years of Emily Carr!

What a hidden gem that a lot of people miss. Even if you aren't interested in the author herself, it's still fascinating. My sister and I booked a guided tour and that was the piece de résistance! Ethan was a qualified and very competent person to explain the history to us. His insight gave the history of the house meaning and historical placement. An impressive guide!!!
Donna C — Google review
After living here for over 40 years I finally had the unexpected delight of having a tour of this original historic family home. It brought to life the many stories Emily has written of the home! Loved it!!
Trudy G — Google review
This is Emily Carr's house that she grew up in. It is not one of the major attractions in Victoria, but worth seeing. It is located close to downtown and is free to the public although donations are encouraged. From reading the plaques on the wall and listening to the docents, I learned a lot about Emily cars life. We were welcomed very warmly.
Debbie N — Google review
Waited for decades to visit. I am grateful the house is protected as a National Historic Site; the cost of saving the structure and the upkeep must be significant. I am glad I visited. That said, I found it to be anti-climactic. This is the home of a significant Canadian Artist and there were hardly any of her works on display. I don't expect the House to have original works - Emily donated her work to the Vancouver Art Gallery; however, it wouldn't be much of an investment to have copies of her work spanning her life. It would have been nice to see photos of the two women artists who supported Emily. I wish there had been Lawren Harris' acknowledgement that she - Emily - was one of us - one of the Group of Seven. I saw the photos of "The Elephant", and photos of Emily as a girl, young woman, and older artist - I did not get a full intimate impression of this rather remarkable woman.

Beautiful Victorian home. In all the years of visiting Victoria I've never visited, that changed a few weeks ago when I moved to Esquimalt in April. So glad that I finally visited in June. Photos published separately.

St. Ann's Academy and Auditorium National Historic Site in Victoria offers a glimpse into the city's elegant past, with its ornate 1850s chapel, formal gardens, and parlors. Originally built as the first Roman Catholic cathedral in Victoria, it was later transformed into a Catholic girls' school.
I went to the concert performing The Beatles and Queen. Although it was my first time to attend, I really soaked myself in the music. During the interval of each chapter, they also introduced the following schedule and some background of the songs. I'm a big fan of The Beatles and Queen, I think these backgrounds may be helpful to the audience unfamiliar with them. When we were playing ‘We will rock you’ together, we also rock these pure and innocent candlelight vibes. Excellent performance, True music and warmed people!

Beautiful chapel with historic value. The grounds are beautiful to explore and take pictures. Their location has been used for several filming shoots as well!

Attended the Rings and Dragons Candlelight event last night. It was 'Nice', but not Awesome, Outstanding, or Amazing... I've watched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy 10+ times and it was at times difficult to hear the correlation to what the four piece orchestra was playing to the actual music from the movies. Maybe for copyright reasons they were only allowed to play music that was 'similar'. As for the Game of Thrones - somewhat close but still not totally recognizable enough to let you drift off to Westerns... I guess the true ambiance of the night was the hundreds of lit candles - now that really was Stunning.
Chuck G — Google review
A friend and I walked through the ground and explored a bit for a haunted Victoria Halloween video and it was so beautiful. Lots of plaques and historical remnants to tell you about the history.

Historic building with beautiful chapel. Entry by donation, limited public viewing hours (no appointments needed) but they will make accommodations if you want to visit outside them. Enjoyed my visit but also disappointed I couldn't see more, as only two rooms outside of the chapel were open and public isn't allowed past the first floor. It is centrally located and worth a visit when in town.

Oh my goodness, I haven’t been here since probably grade 5. Took my little girl here today and she absolutely loved it. Old town is my favourite part of the museum. The woolly mammoth is super cool as well. Some of the exhibits are old and some are new. The IMAX is always fun to finish off with.

A truly excellent museum with a wide variety of engaging exhibits. When I visited, there was an interactive exhibit on protest music that was fascinating, and the section on local ecology and geography was very informative. The diorama of the city in the early 1900s is top-notch and really brings the past to life. Be sure not to miss the exhibit on native languages — although small, it’s incredibly meaningful and I wish there had been more of it. Outside, the totem poles on the East lawn are a highlight and well worth the time. Overall, a place that combines history, culture, and education beautifully.

Highly recommended! You can see a precious mammoth specimen here. Other animal exhibits are very lifelike, and the displays recreate the animals’ natural habitats. Visiting this place gives you a great understanding of Vancouver’s history, local wildlife, environment, and culture. The lady at the front desk was very friendly — I’m really glad I came to visit!

Employees on strike day we visited so Imax & some areas closed. Museum did not live up to the hype. Second floor natural history displays were poorly lit, hard to read and some videos not working. Disappointing. Best exhibits were on third floor, and covered history of India's manufacturing Chintz. When you see what was involved, you can't not be impressed. Many significant totems, worth seeing. Price of admission reasonable, worth seeing. Excellent gift store and cafe.

If you want to know more about British Columbia this is the place. You will learn about its fauna and flora, about its people, places and influences. I was completely blown way by the room Our living languages ,where you can learn and listening to the indigenous dialects, and the reproduction of the early 19th century town. Quite impressive. Save at least 2h for the visit. I was there all morning. The museum is also home of the Imax cinema. It has a café, souvenir shops and toilets.

I've been to many museums and this was one of my favorites! Lots to see and learn! Give yourself at the VERY least 1 hr to speed thru. It does have the ability to add IMAX movie to watch as well for an additional fee.
No N — Google review
I haven't been here in about 30 years and it is much smaller than I remembered. The Johnathan Hunt House and Old Town displays were interesting and well presented. I thought there was a lot more indigenous art on display the last time I visited and was very disappointed. John Lennon's Rolls-Royce was a cool surprise.
Don W — Google review
Was expecting a lot more. The museum was a quick breeze through not alot to see, and what felt like a more steep price to what they have compared to other museums I’ve visited across Canada. It killed some time, but felt like a bit of a waste of a stop. Lots of protesting going on that perhaps has something to do with.

Helmcken House Pioneer Doctor's Residence, situated near the Royal BC Museum in Victoria, BC, is a significant historical site. It was the home of Dr. John Sebastian Helmcken, a prominent figure in British Columbia's history. The house is an example of 19th-century wooden vernacular architecture and stands as the oldest preserved building in Victoria. Visitors can explore this well-preserved heritage house to gain insight into the living conditions and architectural style of that time period.
An interesting small old house with old furniture. We had a tour around the first floor. The second floor is closed to the public. Kind of similar to Emily Carr's house (no wonder). It has a cool semi-painting map of old times, where you can see a lot of familiar buildings and streets.

Working as a pedicab driver in the area you do get to see the sights. After heard a piano playing in the house mid afternoon and watching tourists run out of the building I had to enquire about what just happened. Well the spirit of the good doctors sister had decided she wanted to play some piano. Quite to the surprise of the tourists who had originally thought it to be a player piano. Of course once they realized that it was playing on it own the screaming began and the people rushed out. Had I not been there and heard the piano playing as people ran out I would have said I was a liar to tell such a tale. If it interests you Victoria has a ghostly walking tour that they do around Halloween...Helmken house is one of the tours...

Helmcken House Pioneer Doctor’s Residence: Helmcken House is a museum in Victoria, British Columbia, located in Thunderbird Park. It was built in 1852 by Dr. John Sebastian Helmcken, a surgeon with the Hudson's Bay Company and the first doctor in Victoria. Some interesting items on display include his medical kit. It is one of the oldest houses in British Columbia still on its original site.

Government House, located at 1401 Rockland Avenue in Victoria, British Columbia, is the official residence of the Lieutenant Governors of British Columbia. Established in 1865 and now designated as a National Historic Landmark, it offers guided tours of its 36-acre estate. The house is renowned for its stunning gardens which were initially laid out in 1911 and later redesigned in the 1950s.
You can book tours of Government House online for free. Great place, the tour guide was excellent. Tours take one hour. The gardens are spectacular as well, probably the best gardens in Victoria. Located on the traditional territory of the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations, Government House is the office and official residence of the Lieutenant Governor and the ceremonial home of all British Columbians. The Lieutenant Governor offers accommodation to distinguished visitors including members of the Royal Family, international royalty, heads of state and other honoured guests of British Columbia. Since 1865, there have been three Government Houses on this site. The first official residence, known as Cary Castle, was built in 1859. Six years later it was purchased as the residence of the Governor of Vancouver Island. In May 1899, Cary Castle was destroyed by fire. Renowned architects Francis Rattenbury and Samuel Maclure were hired to design a new house on the same site. The Rattenbury/Maclure-designed Government House officially opened in 1903. The House served British Columbia for 54 years until April 15, 1957, when it succumbed to fire. The only thing left standing was the porte cochère. Construction on the new Government House began in December 1957 and closely matched the design of the previous building. The current Government House officially opened on May 19, 1959.

I have never been in the house, but there are some lovely gardens to visit containing statues, ponds, a totem pole, a sundial (on top of a mini totem) and some views of the Olympic mountains away to the south in Washington State. The Gardens are free to see so well worth a visit even if the Lieutenant Governor General is in residence and the house is not open.

The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, located in the capital city, is a stunning landmark with ornate neo-baroque architecture and captivating artwork. Built in 1893, it offers guided tours providing insight into Canada's workings. Visitors can admire the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee stained-glass windows as well as the Memorial Rotunda's beautifully painted walls and dome. The building overlooks a scenic harbor, making it a must-see for anyone interested in history and architecture.
The Legislative Assembly in Victoria is not just a historical building — it’s a complete experience. The architecture is absolutely stunning and makes for a very photogenic spot. Whether you're taking pictures from the lawn outside or walking around the building, every angle is picture-perfect. The lush green surroundings and the harbor backdrop just add to its beauty. Inside, we were pleasantly surprised to find activities for children too. There were interactive displays and learning corners that helped kids understand how the government works in a fun, engaging way. It was both educational and enjoyable for the whole family. The souvenir shop inside the building was another highlight. It had an amazing collection of locally made items, from elegant gifts to fun memorabilia. Everything felt carefully selected — not the usual touristy stuff. We ended up picking a few unique keepsakes to remember the visit. Overall, the Legislative Assembly is more than just a government building — it's a place where history, beauty, and learning come together. Definitely worth a visit for families, history lovers, and anyone who enjoys exploring iconic spots in Victoria.

Visiting the Parliament Buildings of British Columbia was an incredible experience. I joined one of the guided tours, and it was both engaging and highly informative. The guide did a fantastic job of explaining not only the history of the building and its architecture, but also providing insights into how our provincial legislation actually works. It was fascinating to stand in the very place where laws are debated and passed. What I really appreciated was how welcoming the experience felt. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions, take photos, and truly take in the atmosphere of this important institution. The tour flowed smoothly and struck a great balance between historical context and present-day relevance. The grounds themselves are stunning with beautiful architecture paired with well-kept gardens makes the Parliament a landmark worth visiting whether you’re a local or a tourist. The gift shop also had a thoughtful selection of locally inspired items, which made it easy to take a meaningful souvenir home. Overall, I would highly recommend a tour here to anyone visiting Victoria. It’s not only a chance to see a beautiful heritage building up close, but also to better understand the democratic process in British Columbia. A truly enriching and memorable visit.

Had a great time here.we did the tour on our own. Then ran into Kieth from global. And one thing led to another and he gave us a private tour of the building. He was such a wonderful man, great stories, funny. He showed us his office . Thanks again Keith! The grounds are beautiful the tour is full of great information. Lots to learn. A must stop when in Victoria

Went to see the parliamentary building. It opened in 1898 and had the same architect as the Empress. The style of the building is very nice and gives you a sense of the political importance of the building. It is free to visit. They offer free 40 minute guided tours or you can walk through yourself. I would recommend going if you are in the area. You can get through it pretty quick if you self guide.

We had a lovely evening exploring the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia with our family. The building’s grand architecture and beautifully maintained gardens made for a peaceful and scenic walk. A surprise highlight was a quick 15-minute horse-drawn wagon ride around the neighbourhood fun for the kids and a charming way to take in the surroundings. Though the building was closed for interior tours at that hour, the friendly staff and informative signage made the visit enjoyable. It’s a great spot for families looking to mix history, nature, and a bit of fun in a short visit. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in Victoria!
Ananta P — Google review
The Legislative Assembly of BC is a truly impressive structure, with an interesting history. A design competition was won in 1892 by a young (25) non-architect by the name of Francis M Raffenbury. With no prior architectural or construction experience, he brought the project in on time and under budget. Completed 1898 for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. This guaranteed his local success and he went on the create other iconic Victoria buildings including the famous Empress Hotel. Turns out, he did not live up to expectations and he "escaped" Victoria, BC for Bournemouth, England where in 1935 he was murdered. The Parliament Building has guided and self-guided tours throughout the day and highly recommend the guided tour so nothing is missed in this massive building. Spectacular gardens were closed the day we visited. Each room open to the public has something interesting to view: massive domes, native exhibits, symbols of state, gift shop. Definitely should add this on your itinerary.
Roger T — Google review
You can spot the massive Canadian flag waving from afar — it’s practically a beacon calling you toward the Legislature grounds 🇨🇦✨ If you’d like to tour the interior, make sure to book in advance, and note that there’s no Mandarin tour available. But even without a reservation, the lawn outside is already worth the visit — soft grass, gentle breeze, and plenty of sunshine… the kind of simple moment that instantly resets your mood ☀️🌿

"A must-see in Victoria!" Walking up to the Parliament Buildings feels like stepping into a historic painting. The architecture is breathtaking, and the lush surroundings make it a peaceful yet grand destination. It's free to visit, family-friendly, and perfect for photos. Be sure to catch it both by day and night — the lit-up dome is magical after sunset. Whether you're a history buff or a casual traveler, this landmark captures the spirit of British Columbia beautifully.

Miniature World, located near the Fairmont Empress hotel in Victoria, offers over 80 detailed displays of historical and fictional scenes. Visitors can immerse themselves in miniature dioramas accompanied by appropriate sounds, bringing these worlds to life. The attraction features the world's smallest operational sawmill, two of the largest dollhouses, and one of the longest model railways. With themes like Circus World, Frontierland, Space 2201, Fantasyland, and King Arthur's Camelot among others.
Miniature landscapes and scenes portraying various themes and moments in time. The staff is friendly and there was no waiting to enter. You might have to be into the idea to really appreciate what this place is all about. I was really into the art and detail of the miniatures and spent almost 2 hours looking and admiring the work. To me, it was amazing but you might think the time and $20 admission could have been spent doing something else. The corridors around the miniatures may get a bit tight with other visitors. We went mid-day, mid-week. I suspect there's less visitor traffic during the first and last few hours of business.

The detail that wanted to every single piece is amazing. You can see pieces from all around the world that were built and put in. There was even one place where they show you about the whole log process, but the machine doesn’t work as they’re not allowed to use it, but there’s a whole video on how that process goes. It was well. Worth our time and money. And if you wanna look at the detail, definitely go there. We spend about two hours there. That’s a good place for kids and adults to visit together. So highly recommend this location if you’re on trip to Victoria !
Ruby N — Google review
Loved all the miniature dioramas! I highly admire the work and dedication put into creating all these displays, especially the one of the lumbar mill with a well explained video playing of each working miniature machinery. That was far the most impressive cause the little machines in the video actually worked.

We visited Victoria and wanted to explore some of the recommended places, so we decided to check out Miniature World in downtown. While the displays were detailed and the information provided was good, we found the pricing for adults a bit too expensive for the overall experience. This attraction is definitely more enjoyable for kids than for adults. It works well as a short activity to do in Victoria, especially if you’re visiting with children, but we feel the prices could be adjusted to better match the experience.

you're in Victoria, don't miss Miniature World! This charming attraction is full of stunning, detailed displays that will spark your imagination and take you on a journey through history, fantasy, and more. It's not just beautiful - it's fascinating and fun for all ages. Whether you live here or are just visiting, I highly recommend making Miniature World part of your day. You'll be amazed at the craftsmanship and creativity on display.

What can I say that other reviews haven’t already? Miniature World truly is one of the best places to visit in Victoria. It’s a great place to bring your kids or just yourself. There are so many historical and fantastical models that you could spend all day in here looking at every detail. There are little plaques with information about the scenes and times that the models depict. The world’s smallest working sawmill is not in operation behind the glass due to fire safety regulations, but there is a very informative video from the man who made the model by hand. Such an amazing place for kids and adults of all ages.
Vince M — Google review
Miniature world was a blast and there are many exhibits to explore. You can feel the passion for dioramas with all the attention to detail. They range from historical moments, I learned a lot about the first settlements in Vancouver, to fairy tales come to life. Tickets were around $19 and it was a Saturday afternoon well spent.

One of the largest religious buildings in Victoria, the Christ Church Cathedral is more in line with what expects of a large European style gothic cathedral, yet having a more modern look and feel. For example, no gargoyles, but yet some modest buttresses. A spectacular interior and massive pipe organ greets visitors entering the cathedral.

I can't say that I'm a particularly religious person, but my partner and I were both fascinated by this cathedral when we were visiting the island. A charming, well curated gallery a little east of downtown in a residential area. Easy for a quick visit (~2 hours) and a great escape from the city. Exhibitions were intimate and excellently presented. They are updated at a quick pace so make sure to return often. Staff were helpful and professional.

I really liked the permanent exhibits- Canadian paintings and Asian art. A lot of the space is dedicated to a temporary exhibit right now (9/2025) that I did not connect with but others may. That exhibit includes large self-portrait photos of an artist in personally symbolic / eclectic costumes out in nature. There were some cool artifacts from her family that were interesting to read.
Lily S — Google review
This collection of Oriental art objects, acquired by Besquet from subordinates of the British Empire, offers a fascinating insight into a unique cultural heritage. While it's vital to acknowledge and appreciate the halls featuring local artists, those in search of distinctive masterpieces will find the hall of Oriental art particularly rewarding. Victoria's rich history of Asian diasporas, alongside the enduring influence of the British Empire that facilitated the export of art from regions like China, has resulted in a truly exceptional collection. Many of the exhibits date back to 3,000-4,000 B.C.E. I encourage visitors to explore pull-out bedside tables for hidden Easter Eggs, enjoy Ivory puzzles, and try to decipher the microscopic hieroglyphics found in various corners. The attention to detail in Japanese art is especially noteworthy, and works by the acclaimed artist Hokusai can also be appreciated here. Additionally, one particularly intriguing stand showcases containers that can be seen as the ancestors of modern vaping—scented artifacts that invite curiosity. I would like to commend the museum team for their excellent collection of contemporary art available in the souvenir shop—it’s truly impressive and surpasses what is displayed in the museum halls. Moving forward, it would be wonderful to see an increased focus on modern examples of art, as well as more frequent rotation of exhibitions in curatorial projects. I'm sure there are many exceptional pieces in the gallery's reserves that could inspire and engage visitors. This gallery represents not just ordinary works, but the gems of world art. Let’s advocate for allowing these remarkable pieces to be appreciated in natural light and admired by all who visit.

It was recognized by National Geographic as one of the world's top 10 bookstores in 2015. The beautifully renovated old building features stunning tapestries and houses a well-organized selection of books, including a dedicated children's section.
One of my favorite bookstores in the world! I love this place. It is unique, funky, inclusive, and so gorgeous. I always pick up a cool card and also try not to buy a billion books here. Their recommendations are well worth checking out. Worth a visit.
Elise — Google review
Big fan of bookstores and architecture so this was such a treat! Didn't spend a lot of time in it but from what I can tell, it's a huge bookstore with a huge selection of books. At the least, it has all of the most popular books right now. It has quite a bit of bookish items like stickers, postcards, and bags, and I always find those items to be fun to browse. I love the history behind the place that it was designed for the Royal Bank of Canada. The stained glass and brightness of the place made it look so beautiful. I didn't end up getting anything so I can't comment on the service but the books were averagely priced. Really cool for a pop in and out!
Thanh L — Google review
This bookstore has great potential but currently faces some challenges that could enhance the experience for readers, publishers, and the books themselves. For instance, improving the lighting would significantly help customers see the covers and appreciate the book selection. Additionally, creating comfortable seating areas for browsing would encourage visitors to spend more time exploring. The shop windows and entrance could be better utilized to promote books and attract more visitors, rather than focusing solely on employee convenience. Books are crafted with care and attention to detail, and it’s essential that their covers and authors' names are visible and celebrated. With some thoughtful adjustments, the store could truly reflect the magic of the book creation process. While I understand that implementing innovative ideas might be a challenge for every management team, there is valuable space—such as the second level along the perimeter walls—that could be effectively used to enhance the customer experience. Right now, it feels as though the focus is more on administrative convenience than on transforming the space into a welcoming environment for customers. In summary, if we view the store as a vital meeting place for authors, publishers, and readers, there’s an opportunity to turn it into a more positive and engaging space for all. The limited operating hours can be a barrier for many readers, making it essential to find ways to extend accessibility. On a positive note, I found the idea of employee reviews to be a great touch. It would also be beneficial to learn more about the team behind the counter, as that connection could further enrich the customer experience.

What a magical bookstore! It used to be a bank and you can see the beautiful architecture that reveals its past. Only had a chance for a short visit, but would love to come back someday soon!

To step inside Munro's Books is to leave the rush of the street behind and enter a hushed sanctuary where time is measured by the turning of a page. This isn't just a bookstore; it’s a living, breathing neo-classical masterpiece, housed in a former Royal Bank building that demands reverence, yet offers profound comfort. It easily overshadows any modern chain with its singular, soul-stirring atmosphere. The first thing that arrests your attention is the majesty of the architecture. Look up, and your eyes will trace the intricate patterns of the coffered, 24-foot ceilings, a breathtaking canopy of plasterwork reminiscent of ancient libraries, lending the entire space an almost cathedral-like grandeur. Despite the lofty height, the scale is surprisingly intimate, thanks to the warm, aged wood of the towering bookshelves that line every wall. As you wander, the soundscape is half the magic: the distinct, gentle creak of the polished wooden floors underfoot, the quiet rustle of paper, and the low, contented murmurs of fellow bibliophiles. It creates the perfect, almost auditory cocoon, much like the one you’d experience if you ever listened to the sleep cast, Rain Day Antiques on Headspace. The lighting is intentionally soft—dim, thoughtful pools of light that illuminate the book spines and create deep shadows, encouraging you to draw closer and linger over titles. Munro's is a true bibliophile's maze. The shelves curve and wind, leading you through unexpected corridors of thought, from local history and poetry to a vibrant selection of children's literature. Every corner holds a treasure, a forgotten classic or a brand-new voice. The staff—friendly, genuine bookworms with their noses often deep in their own reads—are a silent, comforting presence, always ready to guide you through the labyrinth if you ask. Visit on a stormy day, and you'll understand why this is a real treat: the low, warm air, the smell of paper and old polish, and the sound of rain drumming against the tall windows outside. It transforms the experience into a profound act of literary refuge. Munro's is an absolute, must-visit destination that proves the independent bookstore is alive, magnificent, and ready to shelter your imagination.

This is now my favorite bookstore 😍 We discovered this gem while exploring the area, and had to prolong our parking as we needed so much more time in this bookstore! We found many books and lovely gifts ☺️

I absolutely loved my visit to Munro’s. It’s a beautiful store, with a great collection of books. I dealt with multiple staff, who were so kind and helpful. I was looking for a book in paperback, and the employee knew it wasn’t out yet, but went to look if any release date had even been provided yet (it hadn’t - which I appreciated. Each section had staff recommendations - which helped me find some new books I otherwise wouldn’t have picked up. If I lived in Victoria I would be returning here again and again.

Murchie's Fine Tea & Coffee is a local institution in Victoria, BC, established in 1894. Located on Government Street, it's a popular stop for locals and tourists alike. The shop offers an extensive selection of loose-leaf teas and coffees from around the world, along with delicious sandwiches, pastries, and desserts. It's also known for its gift baskets, making it a great place to find souvenirs for loved ones.
Murchie’s is an institution and a Victoria landmark. I love their sandwiches because they are delicious, fresh and some are creamy! They also have many pastries including giant chocolate chip cookies if you must indulge !You order at the counter, wait a few minutes, then pick up your food and choose a place to seat. There are plenty of seating areas inside and outside on the street. The place is old style and not very modern but it attracts hundreds of locals and tourists daily. There is usually a lineup but it goes quite fast. Murchie’s is also famous for their fine teas which they sell in their very large retail store next to the restaurant area. A trip to Victoria is definitely not the same without eating here at least once! By the way, in the section in front of Murchie’s Government Street is now strictly pedestrian (almost 2 years now) so you will have to walk a few extra meters to get here.

One of the must-visit places in Victoria, BC. I really liked the Murchie’s Afternoon Tea (not in the photo). Quite a lineup for placing the order and a long wait for the food/beverages. But the wait was worth it. The shop side is very nicely decorated with a good variety of merchandise. I will definitely visit again the next time we are in town.

We visited this tea shop while vacationing in Victoria. The Victorian Fog was so delicious I had to come back for another! However, the line up was so long the second day we decided to skip it. I went back day 3 and decided to wait in line because the good tea was worth the wait. The breakfast scone was delicious! Lovely place to visit and drink some good tea!
Kirsten K — Google review
This place is worth standing in line for and the line often goes out the door. They have a large selection of sweet and savoury options. Cake sold by the slice and by that cake. Large selection of teas to take home and to sit and enjoy to a snack. I had the ham croissant with a Victoria fog. I didn’t know that was a thing and it was a foamy delight.

Delicious food, teas and desserts! Murchies is a great place to stop in. I love the desserts and the staff are so nice and always smiling. It’s supposedly haunted and we stopped in on our haunted Victoria tour. I ended up buying 50 raspberry tea bags and some pumpkin spice to try as well. I love their teas so much. A delicious treat!
Katja M — Google review
I tried the blueberry fruit tart and the crème brûlée. The tart’s crust wasn’t crispy enough, and although it had plenty of blueberries, they were extremely sour. The filling is passion fruit-flavored and a bit sweet, so overall it was okay but not outstanding. The crème brûlée itself was really delicious, but the takeout packaging was terrible—they just put it in a paper bowl. It looks messy and is really only suitable for eating yourself, definitely not something you could take as a gift for someone else.
Sasa L — Google review
I used to love sitting by the window inside this place, enjoying the atmosphere. But after seeing three rats running around on the floor, I was absolutely horrified. Since then, I’ve only done takeout—but now, I don’t even want to do that anymore. Last Saturday morning, I bought a Strawberry Tart, Blueberry Danish, Raspberry Danish, and Almond Croissant. When I got home and started eating, I bit into the Blueberry Danish and felt a sharp pain in my tooth. I checked and found a piece of plastic mixed in with the blueberries—just like the one shown in the photo. On top of that, the Strawberry Tart turned out to be a Raspberry Tart. If I could give zero stars, I would.

A true Victoria icon. Murchie’s isn’t just a tea shop—it’s part of the city’s heritage. Located in the heart of downtown Victoria, it’s been delighting locals and tourists for generations with its signature teas, fresh coffee, and irresistible pastries. The elegant, old-world décor brings you back in time, while the aroma of fresh-baked croissants and steeping tea fills the air. Must-tries: their tiramisu, croissant, and classic tea sandwiches. Don’t miss browsing their curated tea and gift shop afterward—it’s the perfect place to find quality souvenirs. Whether you’re enjoying afternoon tea upstairs or grabbing a quick espresso downstairs, Murchie’s is a timeless experience you can’t miss in Victoria.

The BC Legislative Dining Room is a charming and traditional café located within the Legislative Assembly building in Victoria, British Columbia. It offers a breakfast and lunch menu, providing visitors with an opportunity to enjoy locally-sourced dishes in the midst of Canada's architectural heritage. The dining room boasts a rich history, dating back to its origins as the Benvenuto Tea House, and has since evolved into a refined eatery open to the public.
We brought our family from Hong Kong there last week, and it was a delightful experience. The moment we stepped in, we were impressed by the classic interior decoration, which beautifully reflects the building’s historical charm. The atmosphere felt both grand and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for tourists and locals. The food was reasonably priced, especially considering the quality of ingredients and its unique location. Every dish we had was well-prepared and satisfying. Overall, I truly enjoyed my visit — dining in such a historically significant place added a special touch to the meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food served in a beautiful, historic setting. Special thanks to Gia for her excellent service. Reservation required and be prepared to go through security check.

I made a reservation before visiting. The atmosphere was really nice with a charming, classic vibe, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was decent — I’d rate it about 7 out of 10. The main dish was tasty, but the dessert was a bit underwhelming.

Very enjoyable experience throughout. The stately decor, ambience, along with the professionalism and warmth of the staff made it a very memorable meal. The washroom even retained an example of the nonsensical dual faucet British sink amongst the modern no touch ones. Food wasn’t some top notch dining experience, but quite adequate for the venue and not pricey. Note that this place is actually kids-friendly with available crayons and paper, as well as chicken tenders. I highly recommend booking a meal here.

The experience is good if you have never been in the building. Prices are affordable, food quality is not the best, the service I guess depends on who you get, our waitress was an older lady with little patience who rolled eyes several times when my senior friend was slow ordering their dishes.

Had a really cool experience going to this location, felt like I was going back in time! The staff were all very kind and welcoming, and the service was amazing. Portions are a bit small but quite tasty. I really like the specials and wish I tried the dessert, I was really impressed with the dessert display but I didn't have time to linger. I also appreciated we could go up and go straight into the rest of the building without having to go around.

This was a very cool experience. Definitely a great place to eat. The food was amazing. My steak & eggs were cooked to perfection! Also when you come in your kind of under ground that was really neat. I would highly recommend eating here while in Victoria. We will definitely be going back for lunch.

I’ve been to this place a few times already and enjoyed every one of my visit. It is extremely busy so I highly recommend you make reservations ahead of time. You likely won’t be able to get in without reservation because you have to go thru security like the airport and they won’t even open the locked door if you don’t have reservation. The menu items are plentiful with a wide range of choices to satisfy all different dietary needs. The price is also cheap compare to other restaurants. The staff there were all very nice and accommodating. The building itself has over a hundred years of history. Inside the restaurant they have some rather interesting old photos hanging on the wall. Make sure you ask the staff there about some of the more unique photos.

Best kept secret in Victoria. Reservation recommended. The food was excellent, and the service was amazing. Great food and low prices. What more could you ask for. We went there for lunch one day and breakfast another day. Both meals were perfect and under $20. Be sure you plan extra time to walk around the building and see all the beautiful stained glass windows.

Located at 744 Douglas Street in Victoria, The Maritime Museum of British Columbia offers a fascinating journey through the maritime history of the Pacific Northwest. Visitors can explore historical objects, art, photos, and models that showcase the region's rich maritime heritage. The museum also hosts engaging programs for children, introducing them to museum learning through themed activities like crafts, play, song, and dance. Additionally, visitors can witness the impressive maneuverability of Victoria Harbour Ferry during the Water Ballet event.
What a gem in the heart of downtown Victoria! Visiting The Maritime Museum of British Columbia on Community Day was an absolute delight. The energy was welcoming, the staff were passionate and knowledgeable, and every exhibit told a story that felt both personal and profoundly connected to the coast we call home. From beautifully preserved ship models to heartfelt stories of maritime life, the museum weaves together history, culture, and the spirit of the sea with care and creativity. The hands-on elements and interactive displays added something special—accessible and engaging for all ages. Community Day made the experience even more meaningful, with open doors and open hearts. It was a reminder that our shared history is worth preserving, exploring, and celebrating. Highly recommend for locals and visitors alike—there’s something here for everyone, especially if you love the ocean and the stories it carries.

We loved our time there. It's small and not comparable to some of the larger maritime museums out there, but they're doing their best to keep the history alive for the rest of us. There was a temporary exhibit in one of the rooms about some long hiking trail and a pleasant young woman did some sea-oriented paper crafts with my wife. When I asked at the end how much it cost, she told us it was free. Just a really nice, welcoming experience.
Reg N — Google review
Very tiny little museum. The staff are lovely and the workshops are fun. They can't tell much history in their small space but the information provided on plaques does well to make sure everyone is represented. Their bookshop also has a diverse collection of maritime history books and fun stuff for the kiddies.

A very well-done albeit small museum in Victoria. The miniature ships are incredible in their detail. The only thing we missed seeing was any sort of acknowledgement of or exhibits on the indigenous maritime history.
Teresa F — Google review
It is quite small, but the admission reflects what is offered. There are model ships and some interactive rope tying and anchor stations. We were lucky to attend on a Saturday when a TOTS program was running, and our toddlers got to participate in some Halloween crafting (included with admission). The staff there are absolutely wonderful and engaging!

Its currently two big rooms at this new location . They got a mini kids area here . Its not the big amount of museum collection like at the old location but they are working on moving into a bigger location in future & the government needs to help them out better . I always love the maritime museum of Victoria and love supporting them 💗. They currently got a fishing exhibit on . The museum is LGTBQ+and wheelchair and pet friendly . And its free for kids under 12 and free for indigenous folks.

I am not really a big boat enthusiast but decided to check it out when they had an open house on Victoria day long weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to see a fabulous art show at the back of the museum (see attached pics) so it was well worth the visit for me. It is very small but it would take quite awhile to read and listen to everything they had on display there.

Excellent place to visit. Great history and sad but homest info on exploitation of "servants". The staff were amazing and so helpful. Saw a deer, lots of potential upgrades. If you get a chance, go see!
Alan H — Google review
My sister and I just finished a self guided tour of the location today. I was deeply impressed by the care and integrity with which it approaches its complex history. Rather than presenting a sanitized or one-dimensional view of the past, the museum thoughtfully acknowledges its colonial roots and actively engages with the harm caused by colonialism—not only to Indigenous peoples, but also to immigrants, women, and other marginalized groups. The interpretive materials are clearly informed by inclusive research and a commitment to truth-telling. It was refreshing—and frankly, necessary—to see a historic site use its platform to reckon with the injustices woven into its story, rather than glossing over them. The museum doesn’t shy away from difficult topics; instead, it provides space for reflection, dialogue, and learning. This museum sets a strong example for how historic sites can be both educational and responsible, making room for multiple voices and histories. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history told with honesty, empathy, and depth.

Point Ellice House is a beautifully preserved piece of Victoria history and is a truly unique treasure located on the Gorge Waterway very close to downtown. What makes this home so unique is that it remained in the hands of the same family for three generations with all of it’s original contents and without any substantial redecorations. What you will see, including the wall paper, the fixtures, the furnishings, and the china, is all original and covers the period from 1890 through 1920. It provides a rare opportunity to see one of North America’s largest collections of late Victorian and early Edwardian objects in an original, untouched Victorian home. It is now a National Historic Site and well worth a visit. If you make advanced reservations, you can have afternoon tea in the garden.

Shopping
The Bay Centre, an urban shopping mall established in 1989, is a popular destination in the heart of Victoria's Downtown Shopping district. Boasting over 90 street front and interior stores, it offers a diverse range of brand-name retailers and dining options. The mall's architectural design is both intriguing and conveniently located with underground parking. Welcoming over 7 million guests annually, it spans an entire city block and appeals to visitors exploring downtown Victoria.
I visited The Bay Center in Victoria last December, and it was a lovely experience. The entire mall was beautifully decorated for the holidays, with a special area full of small Christmas trees, each uniquely decorated. I wasn’t sure if it was part of a contest or an exhibition, but it was very interesting and added a charming touch to the atmosphere. There was also a huge Christmas tree that stood out in the center, and the lighting throughout the mall was warm and festive. It’s a great place to walk around, shop, or just enjoy the seasonal decorations. The mall is centrally located and easy to access. I’d recommend checking the opening hours ahead of your visit, especially during holidays, as they might vary.
Seba Z — Google review
A trip to the Bay Centre in Victoria offers a mixed bag for shoppers. The building itself is undeniably a bright spot. Stepping inside, you're immediately struck by the abundance of natural daylight streaming in, creating an open and welcoming atmosphere. The architecture, with its multi-level design and central atrium, is quite appealing, making it a pleasant space to wander through. However, the current reality of the Bay Centre is tinged with a palpable sense of emptiness. There are far too many vacant storefronts, giving large sections of the mall the unfortunate feeling of a ghost town. It's genuinely sad to see so many darkened windows and empty units, especially knowing the rich history of the site and the potential for a thriving downtown shopping experience. While the remaining active stores offer a decent selection, the sheer number of closed spaces detracts significantly from the overall vibrancy and leaves you wishing for more bustle and retail energy within its attractive walls.

What a shock. Tens years since my last visit and the decline is dramatic. Even before the recent Bay closing, half the mall is empty and what's left is hanging by a thread. Two steps in the door and you're met by a panhandler. This once vibrant Victorian ambassador to cruise ship visitors is now a disgrace. Tragic.

Beacon Hill Children's Farm is a charming addition to a day spent in Beacon Hill Park, offering kids the chance to experience farm life without leaving the city. Located in downtown Victoria, this farm within a city is home to pigs, donkeys, chickens, goats, and peacocks. Visitors can witness the exciting Running of the Goats at 10:10 AM during the summer season. The petting zoo provides an educational and entertaining experience for families while being donation-based.
Such a gem in the heart of Victoria! I’m so happy this place exists 😭 It was so much fun—getting to pet baby goats? Unreal. This charming little farm is full of the sweetest animals; chunky miniature pigs, lanky and awkward alpacas, sassy donkeys, silly ducks and chickens, and of course, the sweetest goats you’ve ever seen. Some of the mama goats are pregnant, and others are snuggled up with their tiny babies. Pure cuteness overload. Admission is by donation ($7 for adults, $6 for kids is recommended) and it’s absolutely worth it. Such a fun and wholesome way to spend the afternoon, especially after a stroll through beautiful Beacon Hill Park. Can’t wait to come back!

Visiting the petting zoo was a highlight of our visit to victoria. It is perfect for a five-year-old to look at different animals. We loved petting the goats, llamas, pigs and donkeys. The goat stampede was particularly fun during our three day visit. We were here for four times and will definitely come back. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers of keeping such a joyful place running in the middle of the city.

So fun with a 6 and 8 year old. Birds (doves and budgies), pigs (apparently miniature but still pretty big), donkeys (looked a bit worse for wear), alpacas (who said cheese for my picture), goats (so soft at 1 month old), peacocks (shockingly loud), guinea pigs. Donation suggested for entry. I heard tell of a goat stampede at 10 am. You can get a stamp page at the front and add a stamp at each animal but we were so engaged by the animals we didn’t go for that.

We paid to hear CCR music so were totally disappointed again when the band played their own songs. Would not recommend this performance unless they cleaned up their act. Would give them 0 stars if review would allow me to

very cool intimate and acoustics a great. But to sit for even 1 hour on those so very uncomfortable old seats and that I paid to do it, makes one sad and not enjoy the entertainment so much!

Saw 5440 and they were fantastic. The staff at the facility were super friendly and helpful. The place was clean and orderly. The band was fun and the light show was excellent. Victoria should be proud of this facility and the Royal. We love them both
Doug M — Google review
The society that runs both the McPherson and Royal theatres needs to fix their venue combined website. That is the only aspect being reviewed here. The website has got information gaps, and information loops (circular dead ends) which send one around and around, instead of cleanly, clearly, simply meeting the client information need (for services they are inviting clients to get). These ‘problems’ appear to be occasionally solved by a box office clerk by phone - while it’s good the clerk is either helping out of being helpful (while declaring, also helpfully, ‘I’m not an IT person.’) or instructed by management to solve website problems, it’s clunky, time consuming, frustrating and just a band aid. Spend the money and fix the website problems. They aren’t going to fix themselves. Upping my original 2 stars about technical problems to 4 stars as staff responded well to another technical issue. Also the last time I attended an event there the show and all supporting aspects ran well with no concerns. Well done.

The Mile Zero Monument in Victoria is a must-visit landmark that signifies the western starting point of Canada's Trans-Canada Highway. Nestled at the southern end of Douglas Street within Beacon Hill Park, this monument serves as a gateway to an incredible journey spanning approximately 8,000 kilometers across the nation. As you stand between its impressive stone pillars and snap some photos of the commemorative plaque, you'll appreciate not only its historical significance but also its role in uniting Canada from coast to coast.
Situated in a beautiful park in Victoria BC, is the Mile Zero marker of the western terminus of the Trans-Canada Highway. We spent almost two weeks traveling to here from our home in East Tennessee. Our goal is a similar marker we hope to find at the highway's eastern terminus, in St. John's, Newfoundland. We're grateful for the privilege of traveling through Canada on the upper half of North America and look forward to each day of our two month adventure. We're blessed with a beautiful continent to explore!

Mile Zero represents one end of the Trans Canada Highway stretching over 4725 miles (over 7600km) to St Johns Newfoundland. There is a monument in the park where the road ends, but I prefer a short stairway to the beach where the highway actually 'stops' at the ocean.
Graham T — Google review
This rather mundane monument marks the beginning of the Trans-Canada Highway, which is one of the longest highways in the world at over 7,800 kilometers long and which crosses all ten Canadian provinces. The highway officially opened in 1962, with the completion of the Rogers Pass section of highway between Golden and Revelstoke. If you are visiting Victoria and the Dallas Road Waterfront Trail, you can also make a quick detour to the Mile Zero Monument.

It’s a sign near the corner of Douglas and Dallas, marking the beginning of the Trans-Canada Highway. The location is within the beautiful Beacon Hill Park so well worth a visit.

Mile 0 Monument in Victoria, BC, is a must-see landmark marking the start of the Trans-Canada Highway. The monument is beautifully situated in a scenic park, offering a great spot for photos and a moment of reflection on the historic significance of this highway. It's a perfect place to begin a cross-country journey or just to appreciate a piece of Canadian history. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Victoria!

A monument marks the starting point of the transcanada hwy from Victoria, BC, to St. john, Newfoundland. We have been to the end of the hwy in Newfoundland so that is more significant for us. Otherwise, it’s really just a sign of the start of the hwy 👍🏻

Fisherman's Wharf Victoria is a charming cluster of floating shops, eateries, and homes located on the south side of the Inner Harbour. It's a great spot for families to spend a few hours, offering various dining options such as fish and chips, ice cream, and fresh seafood. Visitors can arrive by taking a Victoria Harbour Ferry or by walking in from Dallas Road or St. Lawrence Street. The vibrant colors of the houses make for a picturesque setting.
This Fisherman’s Wharf is truly amazing, bursting with vibrant energy and scenic beauty. This lively waterfront spot is famous for its delicious fish dishes, like crispy fish, chips.... fresh seafood tacos, served at colorful food stalls. The views of sparkling water and bobbing boats create a charming atmosphere. we love the playful seals and bright houseboats. It’s perfect for a relaxing stroll with a tasty meal. The only downside is paid parking, which can be a bit pricey. Overall, Fisherman’s Wharf is a must-visit for great food and unforgettable seaside vibes. Will visit again.

Fisherman’s Wharf in Victoria is a must-visit, especially if you’re with family. The location is simply beautiful — right by the water, with colorful floating homes and a laid-back atmosphere. It’s a great place to stroll around, take pictures, and enjoy the ocean breeze. We stopped at Barb’s Fish & Chips, one of the well-known spots there, and the food did not disappoint. The fish was super fresh, crispy on the outside, and juicy inside. They offer a good variety too — fish, prawns, calamari, and even options for those who don’t eat seafood. The portion size was good and everything tasted great. There’s plenty of outdoor seating, and it's perfect for families with kids. Watching the boats and sometimes even seals near the docks makes the visit even more fun. Overall, a great place to relax, eat, and enjoy the scenic views of Victoria.
S_uzair — Google review
Such a cute, beautiful spot to check out! You can see fish, see enemies, jelly fish and sometimes seals! Cute little shops and some good restaurants! It was busy but everyone was kind. The homes along the dock were so cute and the residents were so sweet! Definitely check this place out! Parking is a little bit tricky to find. It costed $10 for 2 hours of parking but still worth it!

Fisherman’s Wharf in Victoria never fails to impress me with its colorful, lively, almost fiesta-like atmosphere. 🌈🎉 I’ve been here multiple times and each visit feels just as fun and vibrant as the first. My very first time was with Aunt Fely and Uncle Tony, and most recently I came back with my co-travel nurse Claire. It’s the kind of place where you can stroll around, soak in the waterfront charm, and enjoy the unique floating homes, food stalls, and fresh seafood. 🦞🌊 What I love most is the energy — it’s relaxed but festive, making it a perfect spot to bring family, friends, or even colleagues for a memorable day out. Definitely one of Victoria’s gems that keeps me coming back.
Sheika F — Google review
An iconic place in the city, specially attractive and lively when the weather is good. There is a food court with a good variety, places where you can book whale watching tours and you can also take the water taxi here which will take to downtown. I was impressed by the amazing and unique boat houses.
Ana T — Google review
Fisherman’s Wharf at Victoria is one of the must place to visit. Grate place to have a meal or light snack. They have good Mexican, fish and chips and ice cream place in the area. One of the key attractions here are the colourful floating houses. You can take water taxi from here. The wharf is accessible but foot from the downtown area or by a bus. The area have seating area for meal. There’s also a nearby park if you want a less noisy place to enjoy a meal. There’s also washroom in the area. What would be nice is if they install a drinking fountain in the vicinity or even in the park nearby.

Walking the exact same path my parents visited 30 years ago made this stop extra meaningful — like stepping into their memories. The cutest floating homes line the water, and every now and then a tiny water taxi cruises by… it honestly feels like a fairytale “floating village.” 🏘️💙

Cute spot. Very lively (live band/good music) and a good selection of eateries. We took the water taxi over to Chinatown which was my favorite part. The houses at fisherman's wharf are so cute and quirky. I wished you could walk the docks to see them up close.

Victoria Carriage Tours offers a unique way to explore the city of Victoria, allowing visitors to enjoy a leisurely horse-drawn carriage ride through downtown until 10 p.m. on most summer nights. The private narrated tours provide an opportunity to learn about the local culture and hear interesting stories about the area. Visitors can take in the sights without having to walk, making it a great option for those with tired feet.
We had an excellent carriage tour! Our tour guides were extremely informative and entertaining. They took us (two carriage party) through Beacon Hill and the park. We had kids with us and they were extremely family-friendly! I would highly suggest doing this tour first thing when you arrive. It helped us figure out where we wanted to visit in the Beacon Hill area.

The love and care that these folks show for their equine partners is exceptional and is evident in everything that they do. Emily goes above and beyond in making sure that visitors are taken care of, and make us feel like part of their family as well. Rowen (I apologize if misspelled) was great when we arrived, very friendly and informative. We had booked 2 carriages and we arrived about 20 minutes early so we visited with our driver, Ellie, and her equine partner, the hilarious Mac, as we waited for driver Liz and her lovely equine partner, Utah, to arrive. We boarded the carriages and were off on a 90 minute tour of James Bay and Beacon Hill Park, passing Fisherman's Wharf and Parliament House. The city was beautifully lit and our tour guides did a wonderful job of highlighting the city that we hadn't experienced on a tour bus during a previous visit to the city. Thank you all for a wonderful evening during our limited time in town. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Worth the price, time - enjoyed the ride and the guide! Very informative - beautiful sights, pleasant ride. Staff was pleasant and customer accommodating - answering questions - and helping with boarding and off boarding. If you have an hour in Victoria - take this tour!

We signed up for a Victoria Carriage Tours horse drawn carriage ride online, about 30 minutes before scheduled departure. It was the first time of the day, and we left a little late; I wondered if we’d get shortchanged a little, but in fact we got a little more than the hour ride we paid for. Our driver, Amelia, was friendly and informative as we clip-clopped through parks, neighborhoods, and quaint business districts. This isn’t an inexpensive ride, but they have about 6-7 different lengths of rides all priced proportionately, which helps. My wife really wanted a carriage ride while we were here, so I sprung for a one hour trip, which we both enjoyed!

A wonderful 60 minute tour with details of Victoria History that were amazing! The fabulous sights when glide through the tranquil streets of the James Bay Neighbourhood, Beacon Hill Park, and especially the tour on Belleville Street with the view of the Parliament House and the Marina Bay. I highly recommend you taking a great time on a horse-drawn carriage ride enjoying the Victoria historic tour.

Fun and informative carriage tour by V and J.T. What a service these tour operators provide for the community and beyond! The ticket selling area was a hub of activity for curious visitors looking on, petting the horses, and asking questions. The horses are lovingly cared for (absolutely adored by the staff) and enjoy the attention they receive from the public. 💕

Absolutely horrible experience Booked a ride for my step daughter’s sweet 16th birthday for her and her two friends. We took a taxi to the place the ride was supposed to be only to be told by the other company that this company had already packed up and left. I phoned the number on the website to be told the owner said it was strange I booked so late as I chose the 1130 pm time slot and thought I wouldn’t show up. I had already prepaid so I’m not sure why they would just leave before we even got there. We arrived at 1110 so we were even early. Now I have three extremely disappointed teen girls and have to pay for a taxi ride back as well from an event that we didn’t even get to go too. The only positive is they are refunding my money. Absolutely do not recommend this company and would recommend the company who was super helpful in telling me who to call and that the company apparently disappoints its costumers regularly.

After having a great cut from Erik in spring, I knew I had to jump at the chance to get a cut at his new residence. I'm very open to different styles but tend to keep it the same. Having him there to suggest new ways to spice up my previous bob he gave me (Including an awesome undercut) really gets me excited to style my new hair. I feel so cool! Nestled in the vibrant heart of Victoria, the Church of Our Lord National Historic Site is a stunning example of Carpenter Gothic architecture. Constructed between 1866 and 1870 under the guidance of Reverend Edward Cridge, this architectural gem showcases intricate design elements that highlight its verticality, including pointed roofs and elegant spires. The renowned architect John Teague played a significant role in enhancing its Gothic features with board-and-batten siding.

Beautiful place but not as warm of a welcome as expecting. Some random woman that worked at thethe church to ask my father to take his visor off. Her tone was very condescending and unwelcoming. While she probably meant well it did not come off as so. As fellow Christians it’s not the type of welcome we were expecting.

31Mungo Martin House in Thunderbird Park

Museum
The Mungo Martin House, built in 1953, is a significant landmark in Victoria. It holds historical importance as it symbolizes the reconciliation between First Nations Peoples and the colonial Government. The Kwakwakawakw big house within Thunderbird Square is a smaller replica of Chief Nakapankam's famous big house in Tsaxis, constructed using traditional materials and techniques.
Mungo Martin was hired in 1952 by the Royal British Columbia Museum to create works of Northwest Coastal Art as display pieces and examples. The result was Wawadit’la, a Kwakwaka’wakw “big house”, at Thunderbird Park in front of the museum. He also constructed a huge totem pole, carved out of cedar, standing just over 127 feet tall. It was raised in 1956 and remained standing until 2000. Built in 1953, the Kwakwaka’wakw big house replaced a previous inauthentic and inaccurate Northwest Coast style house that was featured when Thunderbird Park was first constructed in 1941. Also known as Wawadit’ła, the Mungo Martin House poles bear Nakapankam clan crests and the house is a smaller replica of the famous big house of Chief Nakap’ankam in Fort Rupert (Tsaxis). Born in Tsaxis as well, Mungo Martin had inherited the chiefly name, as well as the right to display his heritage’s traditional carvings and build the big house. Despite some modernized features, the big house maintains authenticity in its design and style of construction. Finely finished logs create the framework of the impressive building and cedar walls and roof planks are attached. The central hearth releases its smoke to the world through the smoke hole in the roof whenever the house is in use.

The hotel overlooks Victoria's Inner Harbour and has been recognized as one of the best Canadian hotels by Travel + Leisure.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The hotel beauty and location were wonderful but the staff truly made it a 5 star vacation. Notably: *Jennifer at the concierge desk was knowledgeable and helpful. *Ramona, our server at The Q for dinner was amazing! Her vibrant personality and willingness to share her knowledge of the menu and local scene made our day! *Andrea, our server at the Q lounge was a gem! She went above and beyond to take care of us. *Our room attendants for our multi-day stay were ALL spectacular-the “extra” touches were lovely and very much appreciated. *The lead doorman (sorry to not get his name) is a great first impression for your hotel, we loved our daily interaction with him.

The hotel is beautiful! I stayed for a work trip, everyone was very helpful, and pleasant to talk with. The rooms were very clean, and comfortable. It was a bit of a maze looking for my room, and the conference rooms, which added a bit of fun mystery to the trip The only minor downside for me was the shower door. It only covers half the shower, and I had difficulties with water spilling onto the floor through the gap between the shower door, and the rest of the shower. Given the chance, I would stay again.
Neil B — Google review
I booked a two-night stay at the Fairmont Empress through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts and was very disappointed. At check-in I was told no upgrades were available, but later found out directly from the hotel that multiple upgraded rooms were open. This felt dishonest and set the tone for the rest of the stay. Despite calling ahead twice to confirm a crib, none was in the room when we arrived, and when it finally came it had no sheets. The bathroom was outdated and poorly maintained (peeling caulking, low water pressure, even a spider). Basic items like lotion were empty on arrival. Attempts from management to “make it right” came too late into the stay and were not handled in a thoughtful way. For a hotel of this reputation and price point, the service and condition of the room were far below expectations. The one bright spot was Manraj at breakfast, who was kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, the overall experience left me feeling misled and let down, and I cannot recommend the Fairmont Empress. O btw - I'm brown skinned and never asked if I was here for a special occasion - which I was (two birthdays and one extra special as my child's first). The couple to the left of us - white - they were asked.

The Fairmont Empress is iconic. It’s a piece of Victorian history, and a luxury accommodation that’s worth every penny. We stayed on the Gold level with our family and we all LOVED it! From the moment we arrived, the staff provided superior service, greeting us warmly, handling check-in with ease, and making our time in the Gold Lounge truly relaxing with their attentive care. The plush bedding in our room was incredibly cozy, ensuring restful sleep each night. The hotel’s prime location in Victoria’s Inner Harbour made exploring the city a breeze, with attractions like the Royal BC Museum, Beacon Hill Park, and fantastic restaurants just steps away. A special thanks to Guy, who made our afternoon tea experience the best ever with his charm, knowledge, and impeccable service—truly a highlight of our trip! The Old Victoria Customs House is a historical landmark in the city of Victoria. Completed in 1875, it served as an important point of entry for goods coming into the new country and is now home to legal offices. The building is reminiscent of the Second Empire style and is worth a visit for its architecture alone.
Old Victoria Custom House The Malahat Building/Old Victoria Custom House is a three-storey, mansard-roofed, brick building, built in 1874-5. It is located on a waterfront site, overlooking the harbour of the city of Victoria, British Columbia. The Malahat Building/Old Victoria Custom House was designated a national historic site in 1987 because: it is closely associated with Victoria when the city was the pre-eminent commercial centre on Canada's Pacific Coast; and it is a rare surviving example of a 19th-century Second Empire style federal building. As the customs house for Victoria from 1875 to 1899, the Malahat Building served the city's import and export trade during a time when Victoria was the busiest centre on the West coast. Mining licenses for the Klondike gold rush were administered here.
