The 24 best beaches in and around Bocas Town

It’s a fun few hours in Bocas Del Toro area. Definitely worth seeing. Keep walking past all the bars and restaurants to get to the starfish. Don’t be in a rush for food- definitely on island time. The walk to the beach is through the marsh area but nice. It is crowded but there are plenty of starfish for all to see.

Do not fall for this tourist trap. The advertised starfish are fake plastic ones (hence the signs not to touch them) — made in China. To get there, you first endure a rollercoaster bus ride, then brave an hour-long perilous jungle trail where you can easily get lost. A machete is a must, and even then, sloths can get you or you’ll be hit by a falling coconut. Nothing beautiful to see. Avoid!

Such a gorgeous, peaceful beach with shallow water, white sand and lots of starfish! We took a ferry over here amd spent several hours enjoying the beach!

This is one of the most beautiful things around Isla Colón in Bocas. And if you were doing 5 km Open Water swimming during a hard competition, this beautiful Stars on the deep are much more beautiful to see. 🥰😎🤙

A lot of restaurants and local people. There is no much of sand but the water is clear and you can see starfishes. The restaurant do have great food and cool drinks. I could recommend to drink a pina colada

It is a place that could pass as paradise on earth. We were there today, Monday and have to say it was busy. Unfortunately, the same story here again, too much tourism and too little structure (to protect everything better) destroys everything. We did see some Starfish but there weren't many. You can also enjoy delicious food and drinks here, but keep in mind that you will be here for at least 3.5 hours (which is long by my standards) and the smell of the waste is unbearable, you can smell it almost everywhere, which is extremely disappointing. Hopefully, efforts will be made to prevent these scenes in the future.

Great tourist spot to hang out for 3 hours. See lots of starfish. Rum drinks were doubles for $6. Pina colas are amazing.

Incredible. It was risky to swim the day we went, with waves more for surfing, but the walk along the enormous, empty, clean beach is beautiful. We took moto bikes and I don't recommend that. The roads are pretty bad after a certain point, with a couple washed out zones and deep sandy spots that I wiped out in twice. E-bikes, quad bikes, or cars, would all be highly preferred.

This is a WOW - Beach! You will be lonely there and the waves will be high. You can enjoy your day there. I recommend to go there by bike. It is a nice 30 minutes ride from the town.

This isnt a calm beach where you can go for a dip. These waves will drag you around. But if you like that and are careful enough then you will like it. Good thing is theres a lot of shade for you to sit or lay. and relax. Theres one restaurant i didnt get to go but it is futher up the coast. 5/5 would go again. IG harry_quinn_

I truly enjoyed my stay here but especially because of a sweet and wonderful host named Melissa. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable for our stay. She provided me with aloe vera as there was no store near by to help with my sun burnt skin. My friend Ken loved this place just as much. Also, Carlos who took care of the grounds was super helpful and kind. We’ll definitely be returning and sending our friends and family here. Ps. the restaurant just a stones throw away had the best bbq pulled pork sandwich and fish! Pps. Respect the water and killer waves. That’s why only 4 stars. Not a friendly swim. I swam in the pool which was kept at a perfect temp and was fairly free of debris.

Beautiful beach even when the waves are crashing the shoreline. The raw power of the sea makes you feel small. There are rips here, so you must be careful when entering the water. Definitely not recommended when the wind is blowing. The day we visited, the waves were 10ft (3m) plus in height. Nope, we didn't swim, just took in the beauty of nature. Beach was very clean. Some restaurants in the area like Oasis but check their times as they vary. It's a rough road, and a taxi will take up to 30 mins to get there. Price as of Jan 2023 is $15 for the cab each way. Can be biked, and there are many on this route. Well worth the trip to see this beach ⛱️

Really beautiful beach with huge waves, not so good for swimming. We went there for a drink and lunch. The beach was big and perfect to relax in the shadows of the plams.

“Away from it all” location with paradise-like 180 degree panoramic view of islands, surf, and water—and not too many speedboats to interrupt your enjoyment. Creole octopus is good. Servers can get a little overwhelmed if they are dealing with multiple large groups at the same time, but I went twice and didn’t see the unfriendliness that some reviewers have mentioned. They’re also very tolerant of people just staying for hours, so factor that in if you’re wondering when your order will arrive. They can call a water taxi for you. “Take me to Bibi’s” is immediately understood on any of the docks in Bocas Town!

Bibis Rocks!! Sunday Funday at this local over the water restaurant is an absolute blast! Great food, appetizers & drinks with the friendliest servers, bartenders & crew. Listen to a different live band + DJ, every Sunday & catch the vibe that gets everyone dancing. So much fun!

This place is a hidden gem. We walked across the island and stumbled across it. The service is very nice, they have happy hour 3$ cocktails and beer all the time 2$. The atmosphere is very nice and you feel safe , even the police was eating here and they greeted us. A must see when you like to have a fabulous view at the waterfront!!!

We enjoyed the food (sorry we are too fast, no pics) and the good service too. We had a veggie plate and a chicken one, both nice. It got really busy 20 minutes after we arrived, seems to be popular. Great views and casual ambiance. The pic is a spontaneous dance scene 🤣

Great setting. Our drinks and food were good but it did seem pricey. A burger with fries, a taco and 3 fruit juices for $31. Good location to probably hang out for a few hours on a nice day as you can swim and surf right there

Fun restaurant to sit and watch the view while eating or drinking. I shared the pepperoni pizza with a family member and it was delicious. The view itself is worth checking this place out.

Fun place outside of town and with a wonderful view. It is a bit of a trek to get there, but once you do they have great tacos and cocktails. More than worth it. Very relaxed atmosphere and the owners are really amazing.

Enjoy your Caribbean paradise in Panama, Boca del Drago, as I did. It's so relaxing and beautiful I didn't want to leave. But, I had to explore further.

Stunning and relaxing beach with almost no people around. Very narrow. Absolutely calm water. Wobderful to walk around. Starfish beach is just a couple of minutes away.

Couldn’t believe our eyes, we had been told there were no longer many starfish but to our surprise, as we walked the beCh, there were so many big ones. We enjoyed a nice coconut at the first food stand. To get to the beach from the bus dropoff is about 20 mins walk along the beachfront - water taxis offer a 1$ ride but if you’re ok with walking it’s really not worth it. Last buses leave at 7pm and usually leave every 30 mins.

Nice place for sunbathing, but less so for snorkeling. Good for children, but everything else has been trampled to the ground, which I deeply regret because it is such a beautiful place.

Rent an ebike and bike out. Gorgeous ride and destination! Easy 15-20 min walk to Starfish Beach, or a 5 min water taxi. (Not the kindest captains, and don't expect to leave just because you want to go... I waited for 15 min while they played a game to bet on who had to taxi me, assuming I couldnt understand them.... so I just got up and walked back in the rain)

This beach is so peaceful, I really enjoyed it. Also there's this restaurant called Yarisnori and it got good prices and meal it's good.

This a pristine island so don't expect luxury just enjoy the nature and wildlife. Swimming is awesome and the trail through the island is surreal. Enjoy!

We loved hiking around the island, the beautiful beach views, etc. Be aware that gmaps trail is not accurate. The trail doesn't go all the way around the island as shown on the map but there are 2 trails, both well marked, to cross thru the middle to the other side. Why 3 stars? Tons of super annoying sand flies with itchy bites!! Bring repellant or dress for it.

We stayed at the Cosmic Crab which is a $1 water taxi ride away from Bocas town. The island is beautiful and peaceful. Water clear for miles!

Do not waste your time in this island. Trash everywhere, beaches are nothing special compared to other islands. Better to stay in Isla Colon. The only reason would be for surfing, but Colon seems to have better waves.

It's a wonderful island to see how the different classes live. This has a nice beach and a good walking trail. Cosmic Crab is a must for food. Mantequilla maracuya! Only open on the weekends during off-season. One of the breaks is off the beach.

What most reviewers seem to turn a blind eye to is the third world slums that cover much of what might have been beautiful beaches. Some of what is left is indeed very nice one just has to overlook trash left most everywhere. Fortunately the days of glass bottles are mostly behind us so it is just plastic. That said when the sun comes out the blue green water and white beaches are still beautiful. I can see why people are drawn to them I just prefer the clean beaches of Cuba.

It was really nice, we had a really good time being the only Tourist at the Beach for Hours. But after we moved towards red frog beach, unfortunately we got mugged by masked gangsters with machetes, they took everything we had including a gay tourist we met earlier that day. Beautiful private beach! We walked for 30 minutes on a well maintained trail from Old Bank. We had the entire beach to ourselves at 10am! Not recommended for swimming though due to strong currents.

The beach itself is one of the most gorgeous beaches we have ever been to. The sand is clean, the water is clear and gentle, it's like from a postcard. Getting to the beach is a medium difficulty track, including up and down the hill. There is no facilities on the beach (which makes it pristine and not overcrowded), thus you should take water and/or food with you if you want to have some food. Totally worth the visit.

The Beach itself is very long, stretches of soft sand. in late September it was dry and peaceful to swim. some waves, depending on the weather. The jungle path also during the short 4 nights we stayed on the island were dry, so it was OK to hike through the jungle. I can imagine that it would be really difficult (especially the really steep part) the mud would be very unpleasant to get through to the beach. We we warned of all the theft on the beach as there maybe only maximum 5 people on the beach if any at all, but we were warned by our hosts as well as other locals to always have our eyes on our stuff and not to carry any valuable, no money -- not needed anyway as there is nothing only nature there!

We went to Hospital Point while cloudy, rainy weater conditions. So the water wasn't very clear, but we saw lots of fish and corals. The places is actually very nice, however the beach is completly flooded by the waves. In the Forest next to it, there is plenty of rubbish, what meaks the expirence a little bit disappointing. PLEASE take your rubbish with you and don't touch the corals or any other sealife. Thank you!

I came to hospital point by recommendation of our boat guy. It is a small smal beach but it is empty. Underrated spot to be honest. Very fast trip from any hotel in Isla Colon. Aparently you can snorkel here because I saw a lot of people doing it. I should bring some snorkel gear next time.

Secluded beach with a lovely reef for snorkelling on. Lots of different fish including barracuda. Nobody else around. It had been raining though so there was some rubbish in the shallow water.

Pretty remote from the archipelago but what a sight. The rock formations and vegetation looks like CGI and too perfect to be real. Swarms of birds, large and small, flying around with no one to bother them. They do own the island. We are not allowed to step on the island which is fine with me. The boat can get close enough to feel like you are on it. The boat journey is a little choppy, but worth it for an awe inspiring sight

Beautiful rock formations surrounded by unbelievably green water. Many birds, species you rarely ever see anywhere else, reside on the island. You can only visit by boat and I am not sure whether you can ever approach the rocks because of the very strong currents.

We came there to have lunch, but it was very disappointing. The food was very little and the fish was not even fresh. They have the sea right in front for getting fresh fish. I didn’t had a good feeling eating that fish especially because of getting food poisoned. I don’t recommend to eat there. The only good thing was the passionfruit juice, which was very nice.

Terrible food, terrible service. Tough and chewy fish, dry when a la plancha but the creole sauce was also bland and bad. I had also ordered a mini bottle of sparkling rosé for $5.50. It came apparently unopened but was totally flat when I poured it - probably ancient, and stored in the heat. The waitress didn't care at all, and was very rude. We paid the bill in a hurry to run for the bus and I saw after they had charged me $9.10 for it, more even than the menu price . The location is amazing but I guess because of it they just want to rip off tourists.

This was the worst food I’ve had in Central America. We had calamari and fries and both the plates were cold! I wanted to send them back but my friends were too hungry 🥲 the fries were also TINY. Came here for lunch and incredibly disappointing. We are the only ones here and took 35 minutes for our (2 people) food to come and another 12 minutes for the patacones to come with my dish. The portion of fish was VERY small, maybe like 2oz and overall very disappointing. Would not recommend.

Came here for lunch and should have studied the latest reviews as they are correct. Food and drinks are heavilly overprized even if the food would be good. We also had 'fresh' Fish, which was definatelly not fresh, as it smelled like fish. The waitress was more interested in her mobile phone, then to serve us. In the end we had to pay 80 USD 2 meals and 4 sodas. Advise to walk past this restaurant to Estrella Beach, where there are much better and cheaper simple restaurants. Yanisnori now also introduced a USD 3 parking fee, which used to be free.

I was there for the great sport festival doing Open Water swimming and Yarisnori was the host responsible for that event. It was just perfect. Delicious and friendly beside the great competition 😎

Place is cheaper than others but it’s not walkable to the town, you’ll need to pay $1 taxi each way. You can either rent a tent or a private room. Private room cost $40 no A/C. Fan was good tho. Bathroom stinks but shower was good. You have equipped kitchen to use and dining area. Be ready for mosquitos.

It is very far from the Bocas Urban Area. There are very lonely and poorly lighted streets. Room has strong smells and was not cleaned properly. Cheese and plantain peels were found on the bed. Cats roamed around the kitchen which had rotting vegetables inside the fridge and cleanliness was to be desired. The bathroom had the same dirt, soap traces and stains since we arrived, and we stayed for 5 days. The pictures below were from the last day because I couldn't believe everything was still as dirty as we found it. The staff was nowhere to be seen. The only bad part of traveling to Bocas was to be lodged on this Hostal.

Great place, friendly atmosphere, the owner is a very funny authentic person. There are only 2 private rooms, we stayed in one of the tents and it was great for us. The facilities were clean and the price is the best for a place so nice. However it is a bit far from town, you have to either take a taxi or walk for around an hour. I definitely recommend it.

The hostel is nice but it could of been way better if the owners were there sometime. Lot of mosquitoes and no fly screen on top of the bed. Toilets are ok, shower only outside. Shower head have been broken for 6 days, no replacement. 1$ taxi to go in town.

Affordable place to stay and nice Hostel. The owner Leo was very helpful, but he was very stressed and chaotic all the time. The area wasn't really quite (construction works starting early in the morning). Don't book the bikes, they are completly not working and Leo promoting them like they are working perfectly. Take this in account, there are better places near to the harbour.

Great place to relax and meet cool people. Tents are great, zipper mosquito net makes it bug free experience in the tent. You can use nice kitchen for cooking, get bikes for 6 USD per day to explore the island. If you need to go for shop bikes are free of charge for 30 min. Johnny is great host and helps you with everything. They try to keep down the plastic bottle is so they offer water refill.

Beautiful place with a fantastic view of boca del dragonbeach. Brilliantly decorated. It's located at the farthest part of the island so you must consider going by car, bus or electric bike.

Carlos was great and so were the accommodations. Great place. Sit under the stilt house. Awesome in the evening. Beautiful beach access. Carlos helped us with getting to town and the airport plus had lots of good stories to tell. We will stay there again. Clean. Easy to live in.

The house is really nice with a friendly host. Sadly there were two problems. We had absolutely no water from 12 am to 7 pm during the 3 days of our stay and the trash in the kitchen and the bathroom even when it was full was not emptied

When in Boca Del Toro go to Drago beach house on the other side of the island. Contact Carlos beforehand and he will assist you with transportation. The beaches are excellent in this side especially the Star beach. The house is very clean, quiet and peaceful. Activities for children are there. Not expensive. We highly recommand this place.

Truly unforgettable and Nesto is an amazing surf instructor, and all-around legend. He knows the ocean better than anyone and made sure every session was not only safe but full of stoke. I had an amazing time with Ernesto, surfing 7 times during my trip. He knows the ocean very well, so I felt safe and confident with him. He was very easily able to match the level I was at and helped me switch to a shorter board as I learn more. Ernesto was communicative and flexible with scheduling. He is genuinely a very good human, so it was delightful spending so much time together. I’d highly recommend surf coaching or lessons with Ernesto.

Great Airbnb! Hosts were lovely, responded immediately, and very helpful. I also went on 2 private snorkeling tours with them, and they were the best of a month-long trip. Highly recommend!

We did a small jungle tour to red frog beach and it was great. With Nesto we found many animals like Sloths, Caimans and Poison dart frogs, which we would have never found on our own. We could have went for snorkelling on another beach aswelll, but we were tired from The heat and just took a bath at red frog beach. But kt was nice that we had the opportunity. During our jungle walk we also enjoyed some delicious coconuts

My friend and i got a lesson together. We were both overcharged and might have gotten about 2 minutes of instruction in the 90 mins we booked paid for. Rent a board, don't pay for a lesson!! He was a nice bloke to chat with. Just really bad with teaching and super overpriced!!

Had the most amazing time with Nesto and my first ever surfing lesson. Great experience and such lovely people. I felt safe the whole time while traveling alone to the island and trekking with Nesto to wizard beach.

Both the Jungle Lodge with incredible location, as well as the tour and course offers are outstanding. At a beginner surf course with Nesto I could celebrate my first successes on a surfboard. The rental equipment was also super. Even soft top boards for beginners are available. Lovely Family Business, see you next time guys!

Pretty beach and a bit of a walk from our water taxi drop off point. Only downside is water was full of seaweed and so nobody stayed there as not nice to swim and a bit smelly. Probably just the time of year mind you!

Stayed in the one bed apartment for 2 weeks working remotely and surfing! Wifi worked great the entire time and was a 2 minute walk to Paunch for surf! Has everything you need and location is unreal. This is an absolutely gem, Danielle and them were very accommodating as well🙌🏽 A spot you want to stay, pool is also a cool bonus

This is one of the best places to stay in Bocas, hands down. Where else can you have multiple surf breaks right in front of the house? Be only 10 minutes from town and nightlife and a beach bar within walking distance? And your own private swimming pool with the Caribbean Sea as the backdrop? (Original) Este sitio es ideal,es maravilloso, por sus olas, por su playa, por el lugar idílico en el que está ubicado y además por el ambiente que tiene, un espacio único para los amantes del surf y de la tranquilidad . Está cerca de una zona de un Hotel de lujo que se llama la Coraline Island House, el cual también conozco y adoro porque tiene unos tratamientos de terapias espectaculares, y en especial esta valoración se la pongo al Pauch Bar porque es un un sitio donde me encanta venir a desayunar, al brunch a almorzar e incluso por la tarde porque tiene un menú surtido y exquisito, y el servicio siempre bueno. El trato del personal es maravilloso, en especial hay una chica que se llama Osiris que siempre te atiende con una sonrisa y muy agradable, se preocupa porque no te falte de nada. Es la segunda vez que vengo a Panama y Bocas del Toro, sin lugar a dudas volveré y lo recomiendo. Es una visita obligada!!!!
