Beach
Nestled in a sheltered position, Resolute Beach offers seclusion and stunning views of Palm Beach and the Barrenjoey Headland. Accessible mainly by boat due to its remote location, this 60-meter stretch of sandy beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking with its emerald green waters and absence of rocks.
Exploring the hidden beauty of Resolute Beach! 🌊 A picturesque hike, amazing wildlife, and a perfect picnic make for an unforgettable day. 🌿🏞️ #NatureEscape #ResoluteBeach" Resolute Beach is a hidden gem worth every step of the hike! We took a few kilometres’ walk from the picnic spot, and despite the rain, the peaceful, natural beauty was unforgettable. Seeing wildlife like wild turkeys and black cockatoos along the way added to the charm. The beach itself is small but perfect for a quiet escape—we set up a picnic and felt totally immersed in nature. Entry to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is $12 per car, and we parked at the picnic area before heading down the trail. Bring water, snacks, and sunblock, as there’s no drinking water nearby, and be prepared for some steep steps on the way back up. If you're ready for a little adventure, Resolute Beach is a must-visit!

A hidden gem of a beach, perfect for the adventurous. It’s a bit of a trek to get there, with steps leading down, so wear practical shoes and pack light. Some people arrive by jet ski, but hiking in makes the dip at the end feel even more rewarding. The beach itself is small and secluded, a peaceful spot to cool off mid-hike. Keep an eye on your snacks though, the local lizards lurking in the bushes are bold and won’t hesitate to steal your food!
Joseph — Google review
One of my favourite beaches in Sydney. I’ve spent years eyeing it out on Google Maps and finally decided to venture there for myself. Love the vast trees behind the sand, it feels slightly magical. Hike from the car park took around 20-30 mins. You don’t need hiking gear. My friends and I did the walk in thongs and our swimming clothes. The water has some jellyfish in it, be cautious of them.
Syed A — Google review
Beautiful private beach with calm waters. Had to go down a lot of stairs but it was worth it. We went on a weekday afternoon and there was only us two the whole time we were there. Swimming was great, there were cool rocks and we even saw a monitor lizard
Benjamin J — Google review
The walk from the picnic spot down to resolute beach is beautiful. Totally picturesque and feels isolated from the rest of the world! It cost $12 to get a car pass into Ku-run-gai Chase national park for the day. Then park at the picnic spots and take the walkway down to resolute beach. Would recommend packing a backpack with waters, snacks and sunblock as there are no taps with drinking water close to the trail. There are loose stones and steep stairs down, that feel much steeper on the way up so I would recommend this trail to people that are able bodied, with strong ankles and moderate (as a minimum) cardio vascular fitness.
Samantha H — Google review
This one beach that really takes a little effort to get to but so worth it . There is a cascade that runs all the way down to the beach and collects in a pool on the beach . The waters hear is so clean and clear and from the beach it takes in views palm beach and headland. There is some nice natural rocks features and pools hear to explore also .

Topping off our already perfect Holidays. Decide to go for a bush walk and beach picnic. This is a great spot for a bit of hard exercise followed by a seren swim and relaxing picnic. The scenery and seclusion is amazing. Will be taking in more bush walks along the many tracks.......be warned no amenities close by and be a little fit for the walks.
Richard C — Google review
I was lucky enough to visit on a warm winters day mid-week, so the trail was almost empty at mid-morning, and what a scenic little spot this is. It’s a stark reminder that despite living in a busy city, we also have national parks on our doorstep, and you can almost lose yourself in these wildernesses. The Resolute Loop Trail runs around in a loop from the carpark all the way through to Resolute Beach, and ending on the other side at West Head Lookout. Assuming you start from the carpark, you’ll wind your way around to the lookout, and it is then a short walk from there, once you’ve soaked in the vast vista’s, back to the carpark. Enjoy the day, take your time, and be thankful that you have such wonderful escapes that you can explore at your leisure.

Lighthouses
Barrenjoey Lighthouse, a historic sandstone structure built in 1881, is located at Sydney's northernmost point on Barrenjoey Headland in Palm Beach. The lighthouse offers weekly tours and provides stunning panoramic views of Palm Beach, Pittwater, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Broken Bay, and the Central Coast. The Barrenjoey Lighthouse Walk is a popular hiking trail that offers breathtaking vistas just an hour away from Sydney's CBD.
What a gorgeous headland! I've lived in Sydney all my life & I'd never been here. It was a beautiful day, so I decided to bring my son here to check it out. We did the ACCESS walk on the way up. Very steep & windy but beautiful views. The lighthouse is amazing! Apparently, you can go inside it on a tour only on Sundays. It's a great spot to look out for whales this time of year, too. We took the SMUGGLERS stairs to get down, which are also steep. It's not a long walk, but it's a good one. 😍

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Experience at Barrenjoey Lighthouse Barrenjoey Lighthouse at Palm Beach is an absolute must-visit if you're exploring Sydney's Northern Beaches. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the natural beauty of the area. The walk up to the lighthouse is both scenic and rewarding — we chose the Smugglers Track, which is a bit steep but offers breathtaking views all the way up. Once at the top, the 360-degree views are simply spectacular. On one side, you have the calm waters of Pittwater, and on the other, the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. It’s the kind of view that makes you pause and appreciate the moment. We visited on a clear day and could see for miles in every direction. The lighthouse itself is beautifully preserved and adds a historic charm to the entire experience. We were lucky enough to catch a guided tour and learned a lot about its history and the keepers who once lived there. Wildlife was abundant — we spotted several native birds and even a whale breaching in the distance! It felt like a true escape from the city, despite being only about an hour’s drive from Sydney. Whether you're a local or a visitor, Barrenjoey Lighthouse offers the perfect mix of nature, history, and incredible photo opportunities. Bring water, wear good walking shoes, and don’t forget your camera. We’ll definitely be back!
Jo J — Google review
Barrenjoey Lighthouse at Palm Beach is one of the most beautiful coastal lookouts in New South Wales. The walk to the lighthouse takes about 30–40 minutes and there are two paths: a steep track and a gentler slope. The climb is totally worth it because the view from the top is incredible—you can see both sides of the ocean and the famous Palm Beach peninsula stretching out below. The lighthouse itself has a classic sandstone design and gives a peaceful, historic atmosphere. Around the lookout, there are information boards about whales, and during migration season you might spot humpback or southern right whales. However, whale-watching can take a long time, so I highly recommend bringing some snacks, water and even a picnic mat to relax while waiting. What I love most about this place is the sense of space and nature. The sea breeze, the open horizon and the dramatic coastline make it feel like a perfect escape from the city. I have visited many lookouts in Sydney, but this is definitely one of the best. If you enjoy scenic walks, photography, picnics or whale watching, Barrenjoey Lighthouse is a must-visit. Just take your time, enjoy the view and don’t forget sunscreen!
王建策 — Google review
Visited Palm Beach in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and it felt like a mini getaway without leaving the city. The view from Barrenjoey Lighthouse was breathtaking — sweeping ocean on one side and calm Pittwater on the other. The beach itself was clean and peaceful, with clear blue water and golden sand. There are nice cafés nearby for brunch or coffee after a walk. It’s the perfect place to escape the city rush, recharge, and take in some of the most stunning coastal scenery in New South Wales. Definitely one of my favorite spots around Sydney.
Masaki K — Google review
It is a steep walk up and on the way up I took the easier path, on the way down the steeper one - this worked well as the views are better over Palm Beach on the way down on the steeper path. However! Both paths are grade 3 so do your research people, its a bit steep. Truly worth it, maybe avoid the heat of the day. You will feel filled with dopamine good vibes that you achieved this simple walk 🤣 its glorious.
Sue ( — Google review
It was a marvellous experience. Brisk walk so don’t go if you’re injured or frail. Wonderful views, we saw dolphins in the bay from up there. Be sure to walk down slowly to listen to the ocean echo against the rock while walking down.
Louw V — Google review
Legendary view of beaches side by side, 2 ways to the lighthouse taking around 25mins from beach entrance. Be aware all parking are ticketed at $8/hour 7am-7pm.
K. X — Google review
It's a beautiful view from the top of the hill. However the lighthouse is closed for major restoration. You can find two paths to get to the top of the hill: One is a stairway path and the other one is a plain path. I did the stairs when I walked to the top and the other one to go back. The first one is very demanding and tricky so be prepared and careful when you decide to go. The sunsets are stunning!!

National park
The Basin campground, situated in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, is a highly sought-after beach camping destination near Sydney. Just a short 50-minute drive from the city, it boasts stunning natural scenery and picturesque views of Pittwater. The area offers diverse activities for all ages, including access to a sheltered beach and an island lagoon. The calm and protected waters of the lagoon-shaped bay make it perfect for swimming, fishing, and paddle boarding.
Wonderful campsite with clean toilet and shower facilities. Fresh Lavazza coffee vending machine (very nice), ice creams, cold drinks and ice. Very spacious grounds with no allocated areas. Wonderful walking tracks, lots of good fishing spots for kids. Very safe unsupervised swimming areas for kid. Good and clean bbq facilities. A wonderful spot for a 7 day camping trip. Highly recommend.

Stunning location. But a bit hustle to get there. First the drop your gears at the bay find parking spot for your car. And then catch the bus back to the bay. Then, get to ferry to the basin. Pretty busy for the camping but yea it's your choice. Ps should be a restaurant or a cafe there would be nicer
Axmz P — Google review
The Basin is a wonderful spot for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature while still having access to all the essential comforts. The campsite is set right by the water, offering beautiful views and plenty of opportunities to relax or explore. One of the highlights is the local wildlife. Wallabies are everywhere, and if you head down to the shore, you might even spot stingrays. The campground is well-equipped with everything you need: clean toilets, BBQ facilities, firepits, and plenty of open space. It feels safe, quiet, and welcoming. Perfect for families, groups, or even solo campers. The rangers are extremely friendly and always available if you need assistance, even in an emergency.
Tharinda P — Google review
We spent 2 nights camping at the basin. It was amazing. There is lagoon and beach to swim in. Free electric bbqs around to cook your food. Showers and toilets are clean. The Rangers onsite were very friendly and assisted us. It does get quite busy as it is a popular spot. The ferry over was easy from palm beach. Ice and bait are sold twice a day. There a few vending machines available that have coffee, water, icecream, snacks.

The most idyllic campground! This little piece of paradise is a short 20 min ferry from Palm Beach. Excellent facilities.. including fire pits, a secluded swim spot and Magnum stocked vending machines! Enjoy the local residents, including wallabies, goana, bush turkeys and a myriad of birds as they roam the site. Already planning our next stay!

I didn't think I'd ever have opps with a beach, but this place has done me over so dirty twice. Can't get to it on a hire boat as it's out on the Hawksberry past the no-go line, can't get to it via hiking due to paralysis tick-infested bushland, and once you do get there through magical means like my film crew and I did, the beach is so hungry it consumes your microphone (if anyone goes here and finds a Shure sm58 microphone with a small lav mic inside it (don't ask) then please msg me). Bloody nice view of Patonga though.

Jacob L — Google review
We made a terrible decision to go to the Basin during a holiday weekend, and it was not ideal. There was barely any room left on the ferry, but luckily we squeezed in up top. Side note, there is no ticket booth/machine for the ferry from Palm Beach Wharf; you'll pay a sun-laden 16-year-old with a sweet summer gig on the boat. Anyway, there were lots of people, the most prominent tents, and a bunch of wallabies trying to get any scraps of food from you. People have mentioned that a shark net guarded the inlet, but much to our surprise, the "shark net" was merely there to deter boats. Don't fret though, it's entirely safe, and the little kids around you could attest to that. As soon as we hit the water, we were greeted by schools of small fish, and we were excited by the abundant sea life. As we swam further out, the visibility dropped tremendously. It was cloudy and hard to see in the middle of the estuary. As we moved closer to the rocks, we saw it teeming with life. We made a couple of fish friends that followed us around until we headed back to shore. It was a great place to go if you've never snorkeled before since the water is relatively flat and you'll be sure to see plenty of critters. Speaking of critters, be sure to keep your food safe as there are a bunch of little wallabies trying to make friends with you and your precious food!

The Newport, located on the Northern Beaches, offers a fantastic outdoor bar experience with breathtaking views of Pittwater. Children can have a blast in the indoor play area while parents indulge in drinks and delicious meals. Worth the Drive! I won’t lie — it was a 40-minute drive for me, but absolutely worth it. The venue is open-air with beautiful views and a relaxed, spacious layout. Whether you’re after a bar, café, or pizza — they’ve got it all. I went with the pizza and a drink and it was delicious. The staff were attentive, and the whole place is very well kept. Highly recommend for a laid-back day out!

The Newport – ★★★★☆ Great spot for a relaxed meal with a beautiful view of the water. The food was fresh and tasty, and the overall vibe is super chilled — perfect for a sunny afternoon. Plenty of space, a nice variety of seating, and a lively atmosphere without feeling too crowded. Service was decent, and everything came out quickly. Would definitely come back. A solid place for good food, great vibes, and stunning surroundings.

Super popular place with good pizzas. We picked a very windy winter day, so frozen a bit in the elements. Staff were flat out but worked hard. One meal didn't arrive as they were just so busy, but they issued a refund.. Nice cocktail selection.

Amazing atmosphere, amazing food. I could not fault this place (except ridiculously expensive) but worth it for the views & atmosphere!! Wow. We will be back!!
S — Google review
Late home, we needed simple for a light dinner and our hosts said let's go to the Newport. My expectations of a little neighbourhood bar were, to say the least, incorrect. It is a massive sprawling complex overlooking the top end of Pittwater. I didn't have time to explore all of its delights! We parked at a table overlooking the water, just as the sun was setting, and if you read this review and are left wondering when would be a good time to go, check Google for 'sunset time in Sydney today' and make sure to get there a little before that. It was just lovely. We settled on some draft pale ales, and decided what to eat. Choices, choices. Pizzas from the pizza kitchen? Burgers from the Shack, or seafood from the Kiosk? Are there more outlets? Who knows, I could still be looking for them as I write ! We ended up with burgers and salt and pepper calamari from the shack, ordered and given some gizmo that alerted us as to when our order was ready. And when it duly buzzed and whirred, off we traipsed to collect - we were our own wait staff. Not sure I liked this....bit like having a dog and having to bark yourself if you ask me.... I would have preferred someone to bring it, except (one supposes) it would tire the staff out looking for the punters over the course of a shift.... numbered tables might be an option? Anyway, the kids portions turned out perfect for a light treat and we left happy. Go back? Yes, definitely for the sunset and a couple of beers, and in fairness the kids meals were plenty big enough for us.

Wonderful meeting, drinking partying eating space! What an Awesome view! Tasty well presented pub style food, plenty of nice eating spaces inside and outside. Long tables, small tables, ndoorcareas and semi outdoor places which yoi can book for a set time( we booked for 28 from 1pm to 4pm) Great play area for the kids with table tennis tables and games to keep kids busy. Dedicated coffee serving area and nice coffees made with loved! Dog friendly! Heaps of well behaved doggies there today. This place is made for big crowds. Extremely fast meals service - it took 5 minutes (literally) to get my meals hot and tasty. (They like chilli too much here) Can be very windy depending on where you're seated, but they have those gas space heaters which can be effective or not. So bring a jacket and a beanie on a wintry, windy day. Parking is a bit scarce and tight in busy times, good luck if the car park is full because street parking is at a premium!! I have a big ute and it would have been a nightmare if I had to park outside the car park!

Mona Vale Beach is a low-key beach with a rock platform dividing it, creating strong surf and a 25m ocean-fed lap pool. The area offers picnic spots and is great for a wild swim in the ocean pool. It's equipped with facilities like SLSC, toilets, change rooms, parking, and picnic tables. The beach feels remote due to its insulation from the built environment by the adjacent golf course.
. Surfing: The beach is well-known for its excellent surfing conditions, with consistent waves that attract both beginners and experienced surfers. The surf break is particularly famous at the southern end of the beach. Rock Pool: One of the standout features is the picturesque ocean rock pool, situated at the southern end of the beach. It’s a great spot for a safe swim with beautiful views of the ocean.
Somayeh A — Google review
A well-known beach in Mona Vale next to Surfview Road. Parking costs around $15 per hour, so better not stay there for too long! Also, in summer, try to arrive early before the crowds/heat come. And also, enjoy the waves, as whether you treat them as a wavepool or something to surf on: they occur year-round

Such a nice beach. I love having my evening strolls here. It's mesmerising with its sunset views.

Mona Vale Beach is a fantastic spot! It has a long stretch of sand great for walks and good surfing. The unique ocean rock platform features a brilliant 25m lap pool and a kids' pool, perfect for a safe swim. With amenities and a cafe near the surf club, it's an ideal beach for a day out. Highly recommend!

Sure — here’s an example of a funny but realistic “bad review” for Mona Vale Beach (you can tell me if you want it to sound serious, sarcastic, or comedic): ⸻ ⭐☆☆☆☆ “Not what I expected.” Came to Mona Vale Beach expecting a relaxing day, left feeling like I’d fought nature itself. The wind was strong enough to exfoliate my entire body with sand, the waves looked like they were auditioning for a disaster movie, and every seagull on the east coast apparently decided to meet here for lunch — my lunch, specifically. The water was freezing, the parking was a nightmare, and just when I found a spot to chill, someone started blasting music from their portable speaker. The “rock pool” sounds nice online, until you realize it’s basically a bathtub for everyone and their uncle. Wouldn’t recommend unless you enjoy being pelted with sand and judged by seagulls. ⸻ Would you like me to make it sound more serious and local (like a real Google Maps review) or more of a funny exaggeration like this?

Good for our 4 year old son in small sea pool. You need to pay for parking though which we overlooked and ended up with a fine.

Narrabeen Beach is a long, sandy stretch known for its rock pools and nearby cafes, making it popular for surfing and sunset walks. It has a holiday vibe with a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The beach is famous for its rip-filled waters, attracting world-class surfers, and is guarded by Surf Life Saving Clubs for safe swimming. While lacking high street shops or facilities, the ample beach-adjacent parking makes it convenient to access.
Very peaceful and plenty of parking. People seem to be fascinated by Dee Why, which gets overcrowded. In comparison, Narrabeen is less crowded with almost similar eateries and more relaxing views.

Lovely first swim of the year here- the beach was empty but the Rockpool had a few people in. Pretty strong undertow, not recommended for unconfident swimmers. The only way to the beach from the changing rooms is back to the road and across the bridge, though there’s an outdoor shower in the car park if that’s all you need.
Sophia T — Google review
It is a nice clean and quiet beach. It is good for a short evening walk but I would not recommend it for longer stay / day picnic. There are not life guards here if you intend to go for swimming. We did saw a lot of people doing kiteboarding there.

The best beach surrounded by fantastic cafes and restourants. Perfect for walking, swimming (rock pool) or simply enjoying excellent views. Upgraded and renovated rest rooms are greatest asset to the beach. You can use BBQ facilities near car park

the beach is quite nice and less people compared to another beaches. the ambience in this place is not that great because mostly surrounded by private properties and it’s almost like a private beach, no activities, yet so many empty buildings, for my opinion Curl-Curl is better because even though the beach is quiet, they still have a green area and you can feel the natural

An amazing rockpool with excellent accessibility. The parking lot is very close to the rockpool. The view of the ocean and the sunrise is amazing. I wasn't lucky to shoot the sunrise this visit, but will definitely be back again.

There is a perfect spot just along the road towards the beach, that goes a little up towards the right, on a slope. This spot with a slight protruding balcony of sorts, that you can capture a superb panaromic of the Beach! From this very same spot, you also get an astounding airial view of the Rockpool! If your interested in capturing some high speed shots, be sure to pull out those zoom lenses and get some shots of the surfers in action! (All I can say with this is that patience is surely rewarding)

Towlers Bay, also known as Morning Bay, is a picturesque area within the Pittwater region. It is surrounded by urbanized areas with stunning waterfront houses to the east and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park to the west. The bay features two arms and two beaches, with intertidal sand flats extending 100 meters into the bay.
An easy walk on a 4WD / management road from West Head Road takes you to Towlers Bay (9.4km return trip), where's there is a youth hostel. You can also get here by ferry and water taxi. At Towlers Bay there’s a dilapidated house (with an empty swimming pool) close to the shore which was built around 1963-64 on private land before being compulsorily acquired. There's an old jetty that stretches a fair way into the bay, and views across Pittwater to Bilgola and Avalon on the other side of the water. It's a nice spot, but not great for swimming. West Head Lookout offers stunning coastal views and a chance to explore Aboriginal rock art and carvings. From this elevated vantage point in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, visitors can see as far as the Central Coast on clear days, including the Barrenjoey headland and its charming lighthouse. Birdwatchers may spot white-bellied sea eagles hunting over Pittwater. The nearby Aboriginal Heritage Walk leads to Red Hands Cave, showcasing ancient Indigenous artworks.
Went for a ride to West Head the other day—what a spot. Twisty roads with stunning views all the way, especially near the lookout. The road’s a bit narrow in places, so take it easy and enjoy the scenery. Definitely worth the ride.
Mauricio H — Google review
Great lookout point with plenty of history as well. Overlooks the Hawkesbury river and Pacific and Palm Beach (the setting for Home & Away). You can venture down the army path if you fancy a bit of a challenge or look for soaring sea eagles or a Wompoo Fruit Dove in the trees. Some great plants in the gardens as well. So, something for everyone then.....
Martin C — Google review
Absolutely spectacular views from West Head Lookout! A must-see spot in Sydney. The panoramic vista over Pittwater, Broken Bay, Barrenjoey Headland and Lion Island is simply breathtaking. The lookout area itself is well-maintained with clear signage and benches to sit and just soak in the serenity. It truly feels like an escape from the city hustle. Make sure you allow time to explore the nearby walks, like the short path to the lookout from the car park, or the longer trails like the Resolute Loop, which leads to secluded beaches. Remember to bring $12 cash or card for the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park entry fee. Go on a clear day for the best photos, and if you can manage sunset, the colours are truly magical! Highly recommend this for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking for a stunning day trip.

Brilliant surfing beach, with amazing rights off the southern point (and an easy rip to get out). Perfect beach when there is a heavy southerly wind that will make other beaches uncomfortable. One picnic stop has lots of options for tables and gas BBQs available. The picnic stop also has reasonable toilet facilities, including a working soap dispenser.
