Johanna Park is a large, beautiful park located in the western suburb of Leipzig. The park is most well known for its pond and views of the City Hochhaus and New Town Hall tower. The park was designed by Wilhelm Theodor Seyfferth in honor of his daughter Johanna, who is said to have died from a broken heart at a young age.
Last day of October. It's about 3:30 in the afternoon... The weather, the temperature, the sound of falling leaves, the colors, the smell of the earth... it's perfect.

Clara-Zetkin Park is a forested oasis in Leipzig, known for its lush greenery and various leisure activities. It features an open-air cafe, a historic bandstand for music concerts, and a monument dedicated to Schubert. The park is part of a collection of parks and forest preserves near the city center, including Johannapark, Palmengarten, Volkspark, Scheibenholz, and Albert Park.
Beautiful park with restaurants and summer concerts it is well-kept. Lots of beautiful planted flowers in Spring and summer. A great tranquil getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city in all 4 seasons. Great for families, joggers and cyclists.

This park is so beautiful that every corner csn offer you different type of things. So calm and peaceful. Loved it.i went their when it was fall.. So colorful. I recommend everyone to go there if someone vidit leipzig.

Very, very large park. Fairly the largest park I’ve ever set foot on. And from its hugeness, there are a lot of activities actually. From street music and food trucks, and a lot more! But on its own, just Mother Nature herself, whatever season it is Clara-Zetkin-Park is tremendously beautiful.
Angel ౨ — Google review
Great park, lots of spots to sit. There is a restaurant with toilets
Amanda T — Google review
Beautiful park especially during the autum, the reflections are unbelievable!!
Rachel Y — Google review
This park is enormous and has a lot of path. There are 2 restaurants / Biergarten within vicinity. Many people do sports (jogging, cycling), picnic, playing with ball ⚽️, playing music, etc. especially at night. When i visited on mid June on the other part of the park and it was full of colorful flowers 🌺
Sarah E — Google review
That park it is amazing. It Gives the feeling that you are on a different planet, with the 3 river united together, the XIX century bridge, little lakes, cute cozy restaurants, free music bands flashing their undiscovered talent... everything it is so marvelous, magical.
Csilla K — Google review
Large, flat as normal for Leipzig, some nice natural spots but mostly city park vibe, just larger. Good places for ice cream, etc. Generally great for a relaxed time with friends. River runs through it, allowing watching the boats. Has big events like the eco festival that I attended there. Could use more benches.

Park
Rosental is a picturesque park that offers a variety of recreational activities. It features beautifully arranged flowerbeds, walking trails, and an observation tower that provides stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area. Originally designed as Baroque gardens, it has since been transformed into an English landscape garden with lush plants and trees. The park also includes a large off-leash dog area surrounded by forest, making it a safe and enjoyable place for dogs to roam freely.
Lots of walkers, bikes and fun dog owners enjoying the green space. It’s wide open and has plenty of room for everyone. Found a very interesting lookout tower that had a quite scenic view! Recommend taking a hike.

Huge lawn. Great venue for open air events. We went to "Klassik Airleben" in June. While the acoustics is not as good as in the real opera house, people had fun.
Andreas L — Google review
This park is filled with flat grass and trees and it is very nice to walk 🚶‍♀️. I really like to walk and run to it is also recommended to go with kids since the kids can play ball and enjoy the nature times
Life F — Google review
Very nice public park. The park is very big with a lot of open space where you can do picnic. Next to the park is also Leipzig Zoo so you can see Giraffe, Zebra etc if you are lucky. The park also has good children play area with a lot of different activities. Overall an excellent park to spend some quality time..
Ankit J — Google review
A beautiful open area and a dog park on the back side. Klassik Airleben is the best event here in the summer. Great spot on the other side of the Zoo.

This is a large, flat, open park--suitable for walking, but not particularly feature-rich. The Auwald is more interesting and varied. Walk along the trails on the eastern and northern faces for occasional views into the Leipzig Zoo.

Garden
Palmengarten is a serene and spacious botanical garden located in the western part of Leipzig, near Clara-Zetkin-Park. It seamlessly connects with the Clara Park and features walking and biking paths surrounded by lush trees, gardens, and a pond. While the original palm house no longer stands, there are charming bridges, ponds, and a cast-iron pavilion to admire. The area offers tranquility for leisurely strolls amidst nature's beauty.
The best outdoor area for a walk/run in central Leipzig, specially beautiful in autumn 🍂
Nahuel R — Google review
The Palmengarten in Leipzig is a true gem among the city's many parks and green spaces. One of the standout features of this lovely park is its pathway that runs alongside the nearby river. Walking along this path is a truly delightful experience, with stunning views of the water and the surrounding trees and vegetation. The pathway is well-maintained and provides a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. In addition to the pathway, the Palmengarten is home to many valuable and unique trees, many of which were sourced from the botanical garden's tree nursery. The park is also a great place for families, with several play areas for children to enjoy. One particularly magical experience is visiting the Palmengarten during a full moon. The path beside the river is illuminated by the moonlight, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere. Even in the winter, the Palmengarten is a wonderful place to visit. The pathway is transformed into a snowy wonderland, and visitors can enjoy building snowmen and taking in the serene beauty of the park. One interesting feature of the nearby river is the Palmengarten weir, also known as the Elster weir. This historic structure was built in the early 20th century to regulate water levels in the river, and it remains an important part of Leipzig's water management system today. Visitors to the Palmengarten can observe the weir and learn about its history and significance in the region. There’s one small pond and fountain (unfortunately not operational right now) present at the middle of the park. Though the park is very clean sometimes because of irresponsible park visitors you will see overflowing of bins or plastic bottles in the pond.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Zoo Leipzig is a top destination in Germany, offering an immersive experience for visitors to observe 850 different animal species in habitats that closely resemble their natural environments. From watching elephants swim through an underwater glass wall to encountering black howler monkeys and playful penguins, the zoo provides a diverse range of experiences. Visitors can also explore themed areas such as the tropical Gondwanaland, home to Germany's only Komodo Dragon, and the unique Pongoland featuring various primate species.
Absolutely worth recommendation. ZOO is quite large, 6 different world's to visit (I was first time and didn't see them all) We were looking rather slowly, enjoying the view and taking our time. All of animals have plenty of room and designed worlds mimic pretty well natural environments. All animals seems to be taked care of. One of the nicest attractions is slowly flow on a bout down the river, when you can observe exotic birds and plants. If you wondering if it's a good idea to spent time at this place? Do not think more. It's absolutely worth it.
Grzegorz D — Google review
Leipzig Zoo is hands down the best zoo I’ve ever been to – just go! The area is massive and beautifully designed, with tons of space to explore. The animals are surprisingly close, and there’s an amazing variety – I saw species I’d never even heard of before. There are plenty of spots to grab food or a drink along the way, which makes the whole visit super chill. The highlight for me was the tropical hall *Gondwanaland* – a huge indoor rainforest with its own climate. It’s seriously impressive and makes the whole experience feel really unique.
Kyrylo S — Google review
This Is the most amazing zoo I've ever been to. It's so big with the kids. We could only see a portion of it, but the jungle experience especially with the boat ride was so cool. All of the exhibits are wonderful. I would highly recommend to anyone to visit the zoo. Easily one of the best zoos in the world.
Ben — Google review
Beautiful zoo with a rich variety of animals and habitats! Especially Gondwanaland was amazing giving you the feeling of actually being in the jungle!( don’t forget to get on the little boat trip, super cheap and worth the experience). Love, Greece!!!🇬🇷❤️
Mouso — Google review
Leipzig Zoo is one of the best zoos I‘ve ever visited. Large enclosures. Many events throughout the day. Amazing infrastructure (you can find maps, sign posts, and directions for a tour that leads you through the entire zoo everywhere). They also don’t solely focus on the animals as mere entertainment but seek to inform kids in playful ways about preservation/biology/even physics in the aquarium. Leipzig Zoo also provides a variety of restaurants and snack bars that are evenly distributed across the entire Zoo. I wholly recommend visiting, whether alone or with friends and family. It’s an amazing and informative experience!
Aleksander — Google review
This zoo park was fantastic. I would recommend this to everyone. There is so much to see and you should have water with you because food and water prices there is too expensive. WC is free which is very good. And I suggest you guys to go early there, zoo opens at 9 am and closes at 7pm. As I mentioned earlier there is lot to see so you probably will need some rest. And one good thing about this zoo park is that you see animals without any borders and it is kind of crazy but it is safe. So enjoy with your trip everyone.
Lizi K — Google review
Zoo Leipzig is a great place to visit with kids. The grounds are very clean with almost no smell, and there are nice play and climbing facilities for children. A fun and family-friendly zoo experience!
David C — Google review
I went to Leipzig zoo with my family (kids aged 12, 15 and 16) with the very reasonably priced family ticket. The breadth of animals is brilliant and they were all housed in appropriate and spacious enclosures. We all loved the tropical area, a particular highlight was the giant otter feeding. It was a very busy day in the Summer holidays and some areas did feel quite busy but we still had a fantastic day, definitely one of the best zoos I have ever been to. There was only one issue and that was the number of people smoking all over the zoo, particularly in busy areas where there are lots of children it would be much better to have designated smoking areas and ban smoking in other places

Nestled between the bustling trade fair grounds and the grand Monument to the Battle of the Nations, Wilhelm-Külz-Park offers a delightful blend of recreation and culture. On sunny days, it becomes a vibrant hub where students gather for football matches, leisurely drinks, or simply soaking up some sun. While it may not be as widely recognized as its monumental neighbor, this park provides an inviting atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring Leipzig's rich history.

Karl-Heine-Kanal, once an industrial waterway in Leipzig, is now a serene and picturesque destination. The palm garden along the canal offers a tranquil setting with lush greenery, charming bridges, and a lovely pond area. Visitors can enjoy boat trips or paddle on the water while taking in the scenic surroundings. Additionally, cycling enthusiasts can explore a well-maintained cycle track that connects the city center with Grunau, leading to Lake Kulkwitz for outdoor recreational activities.
Great area to chill with friends and stalk cyclists.
Thomas K — Google review
Pros Pleasant pathways alongside the kanal, sometimes you'll find shady playgrounds and benches. Rawing folks swarm too and fro summertime {boat sup rent is possible} There's a small group - riverboat sightseeing tour alongside the kanal. Cons There's no consistent access to the kanal from every public place! Not every bridge had been connected. Locals know some pathes /shortcuts: they are driving through backyards but this possibilities depend on opening hours. {for Leipzigers: It's worth to overthink the London canal example}

The location and the layout are perfect, almost compulsionately so, with Lene-Park's fate largely predetermined from the start. As soon as the students of newly built district Reudnitz wake up from their winter sleep, they transform the narrow stream bed into a promenade. On one side is a wall to sit on, on the other a wide expanse of grass to lose oneself in (various sports disciplines often knotted together at a drinking game).

Belantis Theme Park is a vibrant amusement destination that promises an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. Open from April to October, this park features over 60 exhilarating rides and captivating shows spread across eight distinct themed areas. From the thrilling roller coasters that will get your heart racing to charming kiddie rides perfect for younger guests, Belantis offers a delightful mix of excitement and family-friendly fun.
What a big amusement park. Absolutely recommended. Price is not expensive in comparison to what you get inside, specially Fluxht der Pharao…..hamer….if it was in West Germany, you had seen huge crowd but I guess in east Germany Belantis is best adventure/Theme park .
Aijaz A — Google review
A best place in Germany to spend time with family. And one of the best for a day trip from Leipzig. It definitely do require to spend a full day to see the park completely. One less attractive thing is the less number of activities for the small children under 7 years and specially under 3 years. Park is very large and have very nice scenic views. One of my favorite ride was red rollercoaster. Those who love slushy drink will get a lot here and you need a full day to sit on all rides. Enjoy your visit
Azfar N — Google review
We went there today and I should say I’m quite disappointed because I was having high expectations. I knew they opened yesterday but there was too many technical issues which they should check before opening we went to pyramid one first it wasn’t working and small roller coaster weren’t working after we spend some time other side of the park they worked but it shouldn’t even happen. When we finished we went to souvenir shop my bf wanted to buy souvenirs we waited in the queue for payment then they said they system got broken. We couldn’t buy the souvenirs as well. Overall I’m disappointed, I don’t think I would visit there again.
Aurora — Google review
The park not very good. Old, cracked. Atrractions old and not designed to ride well because you got a lot of shaking. Hurricane would be so good, but ot was shaking so much i was hitting my head over and over again all over the rollercoaster.. Its not so cheap for this kind of park also. But if you wasnt anywhere but here your first park, it ok
Elzbieta J — Google review
The biggest issue in our opinion is the price. 90€ for two tickets, 5€ parking, 30€ two meals of frozen food, a mini waffle 3,50€, two slushies 15€. If you'd cut everything in half we still wouldn't rate it super high, but then it becomes much easier to stomach. There simply isn't enough "love" in the park. The attractions aren't very modern, many going back as far as decades ago. That in itself would be fine, if there would be new attractions to make up for it. I think the park is decent for families with children though, since they do have mostly attractions for that demographic. Adults are probably going to have a hard time (only 3 roller coasters) All in all this makes it a very tough sell, because you have many alternatives that are either priced much more competitively, or ones with a better reputation, being bigger and better. The big highlight was the pyramid. That was definitely worthy and beautiful to look at. Unfortunately the fact that you had to pay to get dried after the water slide of the pyramid left a bitter aftertaste. After all the expenses paying an additional 3€ just to get dried because the water slide completely left you wet and cold is just pure greed. Another positive experience was the castle rollercoaster, that one is beautiful, fun, although a little short. However that wasn't the most egregious thing that happened during our visit. We paid a decent bit more because of the Halloween season, despite that some of the Halloween attractions required additional pay? We've visited many amusement parks and we are aware of the cost of food, drinks, mini games where you can win plushies, there is plenty of that here in Belantis as well, but the fact that you have to pay additional money for seasonal attractions is extremely scummy behavior. Our last point, before coming to an end is about the logistics. We got lost multiple times with the entry to the attraction not being close to the attraction or for whatever illogical reason on a completely different side, quite far away from it.
Alex C — Google review
Honestly, I was told to lower my expectations when coming here. As a result, I came to the park with very little expectations, but all my fears were for nothing. The park is very open, and there is nice theming for most of the attractions. I especially like the pyramid water ride, it’s quite unique. Staff is very friendly and even spoke English! (Was not expecting that to be honest). Pricing is on point too. Food-wise they can still improve. We took the pasta, and the adult portions seemed like they were meant for children. (They weren’t, we checked). Still, we had a great time here. I hope they try to water their grass a bit more, it would make a big difference and make everything seem a bit more green. Fun park though.
Thomas — Google review
Pleasantly surprised by this amusement park! It has a great variety of roller coasters for the whole family and not crowded at all - despite a public holiday and a beautiful weather. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the Halloween theme. The only area for improvement could be the food offering. It was unfortunately too poor quality for such a price and too little variety. Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Parks
Südfriedhof, Leipzig's largest cemetery, is a sprawling 19th-century burial ground located near the Battle of Nations Monument in the southern part of the city. Covering 82 hectares, it is considered one of Germany's largest cemeteries and a picturesque park. The complex includes an ornate crematorium resembling a monastery with smaller chapels and a 63-meter high bell tower. The cemetery is home to many unusual and beautiful monuments, including statues on grave sites.
It seems like a castle but it’s a crematory, it’s so relevant in the history of Europe because it’s one of the first constructed and changes the point of view the people to the death. When the traditional cemeteries of the old cities were in the full capacity they had to reduce the space of the tombs
Carlos — Google review
I know it's crematorium, cemetery but worth a visit. Looks like a castle and some of the graves are incredible. Beautiful forest, park and pond. Just respect the peace of the place.
Everyonecantravel2024 Y — Google review
Beutiful, magical, Disney-like palace. It’s a very bizzare composure - palace is like from fairy tale, but at the end of it there is a crematory. And all of that in beutiful surroundings of a park that in fact is cementary (but the one for wealthy people I believe). But all in all it’s a must to visit while in Leipzig.
Krzysztof W — Google review
An absolutely stunning piece of land. Great for a walk, lots of hydrangeas and other flowering plants, a pond, willow trees, and a beautiful calm atmosphere. The pathways are very wide and flat, so quite accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. It's absolutely worth a visit.

Beautiful place with lots to see. I highly recommend if you’re a plant lover, and they often have exhibits on exotic plants and animals as well. Staff is very friendly and speak English if you need that!

Beautiful place, very peaceful and offers a lot to see. You can also pay a small fee and visit the greenhouses, where you can see plants from different ecosystems (tropical, Mediterranean, mangroves) and of course don't forget the butterfly house.

Stunning place and so well taken care of. Enjoyed the butterflies as well as the greenery. My partner and I just got engaged there, and it will always be a special memory 💜
Paige — Google review
For only €3 student entry this is an experience that you must go to whilst in Leipzig. All of the greenhouses were beautifully maintained and we got to see a butterfly emerge from a chrysalis which was a very special moment.

The hothouse where the butterflies are is quite small, and quite warm (especially since we visited on a summer day) but you can see the butterflies up close. I kind of expected more variety, but anyway, you do get to see some beautiful creatures.

Wildpark Leipzig is a free wildlife park located in a forested area, home to around 250 animals from 25 different Central European species. Visitors can observe red and fallow deer, mouflon, wild boar, moose, bison, lynx, otter, wildcat, raccoon, mink, red fox and European mink in spacious enclosures. The park also features a tea house in a former Russian block house and other dining options.
Fun activity. Entrance is for free. Super nice to go by bike. The park is very spacious. Has a main restaurant close to the entrance. And a big playground for kids. You dogs are allowed to enter the park as well. Has several animals to see like sheep and deers. Accessible by transportation, super close bus stop. Also, there is a very big parking lot if you are going by car.
Mariam O — Google review
Nice place for a walk. Most of the animals are far in the distance. We didn't see much. The farm animals were easier to see. However there was supposed to be riding, but there wasn't. Kids were sad about it, but had fun on the playground.

Zainab K — Google review
Made for an enjoyable, brisk winter walking spot. Would have been nice to see a few more animals but understandably many were sheltering from the cold! Not sure about keeping the owls in such small cages, seemed inhumane
Brendan B — Google review
Wildpark Leipzig is a fantastic destination for nature lovers and families, offering a variety of attractions and activities to enjoy. One of the standout features of this park is that it is free to enter, making it accessible to all visitors. The park itself is quite large, with multiple hiking routes that allow visitors to explore the beautiful surroundings at their own pace. Opposite the entrance there’s a small car park. There were sign present for bike to not to enter inside park however I have seen many people ignoring it and going inside with their bike The park is accessible by public transport. However, There’s only one bus route right at the entrance of the park and frequency is less compare to tram. After entering the park on left side you will get a spacious area dedicated to children's play, providing a great space for kids to have fun and burn off some energy. While entry to the park is free, it's worth noting that there are additional charges for certain activities such as camel rides and pony rides. However, these experiences can add an extra element of excitement for those interested. One of the unique aspects of Wildpark Leipzig is the opportunity to observe and interact with various animals. During feeding time, which typically takes place between 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm, some animals like minks and otters can only be seen in action. This creates a special experience for visitors and adds to the park's charm. To further engage with the animals, you can purchase feeding boxes from vending machines in the park. These boxes allow you to feed various species of rams and goats, and they cost exactly 50 cents. Just make sure to bring exact change to use the vending machine. A visit to Wildpark Leipzig wouldn't be complete without exploring the deer and bison enclosures. These majestic animals are a must-see. The park also features several owl enclosures, although some visitors may find the cages to be relatively small compared to the size of the birds. However, seeing these magnificent creatures up close can still be quite fascinating. In addition to the animal exhibits, Wildpark Leipzig boasts a tranquil pond where you can spot a few small tortoises. These gentle creatures add a touch of serenity to the park's atmosphere. If you find yourself needing a break or a bite to eat, there are several restaurants conveniently located in the park, opposite the children's play area. This allows you to relax and recharge before continuing your exploration. Overall, Wildpark Leipzig offers a wonderful experience for visitors of all ages. From its free admission to the opportunity to interact with animals and enjoy outdoor activities, it's a great place to spend a day immersed in nature. Always my wildpark visit ends by looking at the sunset at near by Cospunder see which you can get to pretty easily using public transport or by driving your own car.
Kaushik D — Google review
A very atmospheric place to be with a number of options to spend your time on and a number of animals to see. A good and mostly free alternative to the city Zoo.
Dávid B — Google review
Great zoological park in the south of Leipzig which will cost you nothing at all👍🏾😱 Here you can watch deers, goats, elks, foxes and other small native European animals. Don’t expect lions and those other special like animals. You can find them in the real zoo in Leipzig. 🦉🐗🐐🦌 You can also buy animal food from machines there for just one euro. If you want to chill and have a meal, then checkout the small “Russian” bistro in the park. This one was built during the socialist era when East Germany was a country on it’s own. There is also another small place, where you can have the typical German Bratwurst and other stuff, and a big restaurant, where you might have to pay more.

Zackery M — Google review
It's a very nice place in Clara-Zetkin Park. It has a beautiful and big beargarten. And it has open air cinema in the summers. The screen is a little bit pale but once you're in the movie it doesn't matter. They have a strange system. When you go there you have to take your own chair (some kind of sun chair) from a pile of chairs and choose your place to sit and if you're late you may have no chair left. I dont know what happens in that case, there is also a balcony probably you go and sit on the balcony, I haven't checked it. So I advise you to go early and have a seat. They have alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, chips and so on. So you can just sit and enjoy the place till movie starts(that's what people were doing so the place is like an open bar till movie). Anyway, if you like open air cinema you should definitely try it!

(Translated by Google) Interesting facility! The Palmengarten weir (also: Upper Elster weir) is located at the southern (in terms of flow direction) end of the Elster basin (Zentrum-West district). It reduces the water level from 106.9 meters above sea level (south) to 104.4 meters above sea level (north). The street Am Elsterwehr leads over the 50 meter long and 5 meter wide weir bridge. The Palmengarten weir was built from 1913 to 1917 as a combined roller and rifle weir. The construction management was carried out by the Leipzig architect Georg Wünschmann (1868–1937), who also designed the external design. The Palmengarten weir got its name from the Palmengarten located at the western bridge camp, an amusement park created between 1893 and 1899, the remains of which belonged to the Clara Zetkin Park from 1955 to 2011. The weir serves to control the inflow of water from the White Elster coming from the west and the combined Elster and Pleiße floodbed coming from the south into the Elster basin to the north. It is also possible to lower the southern water levels so far that the Alte Elster, which runs south of the weir to the east, and the Elstermühlgraben, which later branches off, fall dry. The entire weir is faced with granite stones. The three attached buildings have hipped roofs covered with red tiles. The weir is constructed strictly symmetrically: in the middle is the house with the control systems and wind turbines of the two rollers on the left and right, each lying in 17 meter wide arches. This is also followed by narrower rifle openings on both sides, above which the associated smaller shelter houses stand. The Palmengarten weir is a technical monument. Nevertheless, it is still fully functional and fulfills important flood protection tasks for the city of Leipzig. On July 10, 1954, after heavy rainfall, a defect in the Palmengarten weir led to the flooding of large parts of the outer western suburb and the Waldstrasse district. (Original) Interessante Anlage!

The Botanical Garden Leipzig is a well-established university garden that features a diverse range of plant collections and greenhouses. The butterfly house, although small and warm, offers an up-close experience with beautiful butterflies. While some visitors may have expected more variety, it is still worth visiting for the opportunity to see these stunning creatures. The overall maintenance of the greenhouses is commendable, and witnessing a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis is truly special.
Beautiful place with lots to see. I highly recommend if you’re a plant lover, and they often have exhibits on exotic plants and animals as well. Staff is very friendly and speak English if you need that!

(Translated by Google) Directly opposite the train station: the Lower Park. Really nice for a little break in between. Pretty flower borders in front big swaying trees.
