Ferries
The Staten Island Ferry is a popular 5.2-mile ferry route that has been operating since 1817, connecting Manhattan and Staten Island. It offers a free and scenic journey with great views of the Statue of Liberty, Governor's Island, and the New York City skyline. Many people consider it to be one of the best ways to see the Statue of Liberty without having to pay for a separate cruise or deal with crowds at Liberty Island.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
The Staten Island Zoo is an 8-acre haven for animal lovers, housing over 1,100 animals from around the world. The zoo features a diverse range of creatures, including cat-like fossas and tiny tenrecs in the Africa Wing, as well as a variety of reptiles in the Reptile Wing. One of its highlights is the Amur Leopard Habitat, providing a natural environment for these majestic creatures.
It's a wonderful place. My daughter and I had a great time walking in the green park and seeing lots of interesting animals. All the animals are well-groomed and clean, and it's clear how much work goes into caring for them.
Anna — Google review
Visited the Staten Island Zoo and had an overall good experience. The grounds were well-maintained and most of the animal exhibits were interesting. However, I was disappointed to discover that the otter exhibit, which was one of my favorite attractions, was not operational during my visit. The enclosure was drained and the otters weren't visible anywhere. This was a letdown since the otters are usually a highlight. Despite this, the other exhibits were enjoyable and the wait times were reasonable. The zoo offers a nice variety of animals for its size, but calling ahead to check if specific exhibits are open might be a good idea if you're visiting for particular animals.
Phil G — Google review
First time here with husband and 10 month old baby and we loved it. We got to see everything and it took us exactly 2 hours (with 1 bathroom break). Admission is $12 per adult, free for kids under 2. Wish the zoo was bigger and had more animals but I was actually pleasantly surprised with its current size, I thought it would be smaller and so glad to find out that it is not. We came on a Sunday of Labor Day weekend and there were no shows of any sort but that was okay. We also did the carousel ($3 for child + adult). Next time, planning to feed the goats and sheep (50 cents for a small handful of feed) and maybe even go inside the enclosure to get up close to the goats and sheep (another $3). All in all, a fun and wholesome experience for the whole family! We will definitely be back!
Natalya P — Google review
We had such a wonderful time at the Staten Island Zoo! It’s a perfect place for families with young kids clean, safe, and full of interesting animals to see. Our little one absolutely loved the petting area and watching the monkeys and reptiles. The zoo isn’t too big, which makes it easy to walk around without getting tired, and everything is well maintained. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there are plenty of spots to sit, rest, or grab a snack. A great place for a weekend outing with kids we’ll definitely be back!
Yusuf K — Google review
A good zoo, clean and tidy. Not many land animals! Walkways signs were missing, the main map was there. Cafe and picnic area was better . Staff was professional. Carousel was fun but compare to the price, less rounds!
Tasneem D — Google review
Wonderful zoo, one of my favorites. So many animals you can actually see and pet. Never crowded and parking right cross the street.
Arina A — Google review
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Amazing Experience at Zoo! A Must-Visit Spot for Animal Lovers 🐆🐍🐟 I had an awesome time visiting Zooku! This place is way more than just a small zoo — it’s packed with unique and exotic animals from all over the world. One of my favorite parts was the leopard exhibit — absolutely stunning! 🐆 They also have something I wasn’t expecting: piranhas! 🐟 They looked wild but were safely displayed, and it was super cool to see them up close. If you’re a snake fan, you’re in for a treat — Zooku has an incredible snake collection from places like China, Mexico, and all across Asia. Don’t worry, everything is 100% safe — the enclosures are built with strong bulletproof glass, so you can enjoy the animals up close with total peace of mind. The staff were friendly and full of knowledge. I had some great conversations and learned so much. They’re really passionate about animals and told us they're still expanding their collection, so there’s always something new to see. I recorded some fun clips and video highlights — this is definitely the kind of place you want to visit with your friends or family. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 You’ll see animals here that you probably won’t see anywhere else! 🎥🎉 Can’t wait to come back again soon. If you're thinking about going — do it! You won’t regret it. Highly recommended!

I lived on staten island for years and today I decided to visit the zoo after hearing it had a capybara. I love these animals so of course I had to visit. We paid $12 per adult and parking is free in the lot across the street. They have a bit of everything for everyone. There is a children’s center, carousel, gift shop and small cafe. I personally enjoyed the fennec fox exhibit, pigs, capybara and all of the monkeys! My boyfriend loved the fishes and snakes. All of the staff here are so kind and well informed about their animals. I would come back here because they’re always bringing new exhibits and new happenings. If you’re military or a kiddo, there is a discount.

Nestled on Staten Island, the Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is a tranquil retreat from city life. Originally a retirement home for sailors in the 1800s, it has evolved into a unique cultural destination with something for everyone. The center features lush gardens, historic buildings including a Japanese teahouse, and various museums. It hosts art exhibitions, performances, and educational programs.
First time visiting the Children’s museum in YEARS. We had the absolute best time with our family! From the moment we walked in, the staff was very welcoming. The museum was so well kept. Every exhibit was hands on, educational, and perfectly tailored for kids of all ages. My children were completely engaged from start to finish. I love they provide an area for you to park your stroller, set your kids book bag or personal belongings to the side so you can truly enjoy the entire experience.
Starr R — Google review
Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is truly a hidden gem on Staten Island. The grounds are expansive, peaceful, and filled with so many beautiful corners to explore from lush gardens to fascinating cultural spaces. We spent the day wandering through most of the attractions, and each spot had its own charm. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the Chinese Scholar’s Garden this time, but that just gives us the perfect reason to come back because it’s at the top of our list for the next visit! To make the day even more magical, there happened to be a gorgeous wedding taking place while we were there, which added such a romantic and joyful atmosphere to the gardens. Between the greenery, the architecture, and the sense of history, Snug Harbor is one of those places where you can slow down, soak it all in, and truly enjoy yourself. Highly recommended, and we can’t wait to return.
Kimberly L — Google review
Snug Harbor is such a beautiful and relaxing spot - perfect for a weekend visit. The atmosphere is peaceful with plenty of open space, gardens, and historic charm. The brewery here is a must-visit - great local vibe, friendly staff, and an awesome beer selection. Definitely grab a flight so you can try a few different brews - they're all crafted with care and full of flavor. Whether you're here for the scenery, the culture, or the beer, Snug Harbor never disappoints.
Ibraheam A — Google review
Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is a popular and famous tourist attraction in Staten Island. With three museums, two art galleries, fourteen botanical gardens, six NYC landmarks, and a two-acre Urban farm, this place has over two centuries of history for you to learn about. At the Staten Island Museum, Noble Maritime Collection, and Children's Museum, you can learn about the deep history of Staten Island. Not only that, but also regarding natural sciences and art. Further historical art experiences and history can be learned at the two art galleries. While the museums and art galleries are fun, the main star of Snug Harbor are the botanical gardens. Specifically, the New York Chinese Scholar's Garden! This is one of two authentic classical outdoor Chinese gardens built in the United States. What makes it authentic is the fact that it is a compilation of different gardens in China that is based on the Ming Dynasty gardens (1368-1644 AD). It is worth the trip here, but I highly suggest coming early! There are limited parking and it is a first-come-first-serve basis. Feel free to bring some snacks/food along, but you can also buy lunch here too! My last piece of advice: check the official websites for hours of operations. Some of the buildings/gardens are only open during certain times of the year or at certain times of the day. You can come during the Winter, but I highly recommend coming in the Summer. Just make sure you stay cool and don't overheat!
Stephen K — Google review
Pretty cool. Spent most of my time here at the Chinese garden. Had to pay extra to get in but worth it. Not every ring was open and running but still a nice place to visit and check out. Got a lot of steps in. Food looked good but I don’t try it. Wasn’t hungry.
Justin D — Google review
The park is certainly a lesser known gem in NYC. Once you get off the ferry, you can take several buses to get there (but definitely should check the schedules) or a quick uber lift to the entrance. There are plenty of grounds to walk through though my destination was the Chinese Gardens located at Cottage E. Once inside, you pay a $5 entrance fee and have full access to the Chinese gardens. While not the best kept nor the largest, at that price to be transported to a reminiscent Suzhou house and grounds, it was worth it and still a good setting for pictures. There is also a nice display that gives you information as you walk through. Would recommend a stop in, especially on a beautiful day!
Vivian W — Google review
It's a really nice place to spend the day. I went only to the botanical garden and visited none of the buildings but I am planning to go back. Spring is probably a better time to go to admire the flowers better. I wish I lived closer so I could just spend my free evenings there.
Josheli J — Google review
Snug Harbor is a wonderful place to visit. If it were in Manhattan, it would be absolutely filled with visitors. The National Register of Historic Places said that it was the most important collection of Greek revival buildings in the country. It’s beautiful, and you can have some restorative alone time there. My top three picks would be the Staten Island Museum, the Noble Maritime Collection and the Chinese Scholars Garden. If you haven’t been, do yourself a favor and walk around and enjoy the culture and nature.

Children's amusement center
The Staten Island Children's Museum is a vibrant haven for young explorers, nestled within the picturesque grounds of Snug Harbor. This engaging destination offers an array of interactive exhibits that cover diverse topics such as firefighting, insects, and green living. Children can immerse themselves in hands-on activities like constructing with miniature tools in House About It or embarking on thrilling adventures through Great Explorations, where they can experience Arctic dogsledding and rainforest exploration.
This is the best place I could take my 3 year old. It's a interactive, educational experience for him. I've been coming to this place for a year now and dont regret it my membership expired which is 50 a year or 8 person and 8 per child and they informed me that EBT or benefit card holders (the blue and white card) come in for free (with ID). So needless to say I'll be coming here more often. The pictures are the third floor, the second floor offers a walk in workshop that offers coloring, painting, sand playing, train tracks etc. The first floor has a jungle, fire truck and various stem activities. The staff is super friendly and bathrooms are kept very clean definitely recommend

The Staten Island Children's Museum is a great place for kids ages 3 to 10. The Hands-On arts and crafts area lets children make fun and creative projects. There are lots of fun things to do and explore all around the museum.

Is a great place for small kids, has Interactive games, a huge chess game and many more. Nice AC inside and out door games for small kids too. A small cafeteria with vending machines, a floor dedicated to arts and craft and insects. Really clean and the staff were pretty nice. Elevators for people with strollers or wheelchairs.
Luisa P — Google review
The Staten Island Children’s Museum is an absolute treasure! It’s the perfect place for kids to learn through play, with a wide variety of interactive exhibits that spark curiosity and imagination. My children had an amazing time exploring the firefighter truck, the bug room, and the hands-on science displays. The staff is warm, welcoming, and truly passionate about creating a fun, educational environment. What I especially appreciate is how thoughtfully the museum is laid out — there’s something engaging for every age group, and it’s clean, safe, and easy to navigate. The outdoor area is a bonus, providing space for kids to run around and enjoy the fresh air. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Staten Island, this museum is a must-see for families. We’ll definitely be back!
Mohamad E — Google review
Amazing place for kids where they can have fun and learn at the same time. Just recently attended their Halloween event and my kids loved it. I hope they do more of these.
Mohammed A — Google review
I have been coming to the Staten Island Children's museum for a long time. My son is now 21, and he loved it as a kid. Now, his younger sister, 6, fell in love with it, too! She had been here before but did not remember. She had the best time and cannot wait to go back. They have added more since my son was small. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. We will be going back!
Andrea R — Google review
What a wonderful spot for children to learn and play! This space is perfect for children of all ages. The soft play room is a perfect for for babies and toddler to immerse themselves in a safe sensory experience. The top floor is better suited for older kids, with a large enclosed climbing "beehive"for kids to crawl through and a sensationally epic swirly slide. There outdoor play area was a big plus as well. We bought the membership and can't wait to return!
Andrea L — Google review
Great place! Super clean, friendly staff, easy parking and not to crowded!! Also the price of 8$ is more than fair. The kids had a great time with lots to do and see. Great for a variety of ages. Also they had a little snack zone with reasonably priced snacks. Bathrooms were also very clean. We ended the day with a picnic in the field.

Ferry service
The Staten Island Ferry is a popular and reliable mode of transportation that offers amazing views of Lady Liberty, Manhattan, and the financial district. It's a free service paid for by New Yorkers through their taxes. The ferry provides ample space for passengers to enjoy the scenic ride, with no need to reserve a spot in advance. Visitors can take advantage of this walk-on only ferry to experience iconic skylines and landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty.
⛴️ This ferry is completely free and departs about every 15 minutes — super convenient! The boat has three levels, with restrooms for men and women available on multiple floors. Some areas are air-conditioned ❄️, while others are not. There are plenty of power outlets around if you need to charge your phone 🔌📱. You can choose to sit indoors — great if it’s raining, cold, or if you want to enjoy the A/C — or outdoors if you’d rather take photos and feel the fresh air 🌬️📸. The ride lasts about 25 minutes, and it’s very pleasant. I really enjoyed both trips I took on this ferry! From the Staten Island side, there’s also an outlet mall nearby — perfect if you’re in the mood for a little shopping 🛍️. You do get a view of the Statue of Liberty during the crossing, although it’s a bit far, so the photos and videos may not be super sharp. Still, it's a nice bonus! Definitely worth taking if you're in New York City!
V S — Google review
Ferry is a great and free way to see the statue of liberty 🗽🗽🗽 Departure every 30mins. If you want to make a great picture so from NYC to Staten Island way you should be on the top right side. In this way you can make a great photo of statue. On the way back from Staten Island to NYC you should find the place on the top left. Be quick. The spots are limited and always overbooked. There isn't any ticket. Just stay in line and get in for free. For the way back you need to leave the ferry for security reasons.
ImdioR — Google review
Easy one and easy off. LOTS of people on the weekends. Excellent views. Can sit inside or stand on the deck outside. There are bathrooms and snack bars. Staff is helpful. Lovely activity.
MaryD D — Google review
Nice ride on a nice day. Lots of space indoors. Outdoors gets you the best view of Lady Liberty without going to it directly. Leaves regularly so you can catch the next one. Drops you near Staten Island Mall and ball park.
Kevin M — Google review
You do get a decent view of the Statue of Liberty for being free, although it is a bit far away to really appreciate. If you really want to take in all the details and symbolism (and get good pictures), get the Liberty Island ferry / tour. It is totally worth it for one of the most iconic sites in the world. The best time to take this ferry (if you want to see the statue) is BEFORE 12PM, not after! Sunset is the worst time because all you see is a black silhouette! The one actually awesome thing you get to see is the New York skyline. Brilliant and picturesque.
Guru P — Google review
One of the most fun experiences while visiting NYC! Very spacious and clean, unlike I expected. The schedules are very convenient --- and it's FREE! Fantastic view of Miss Liberty!
Sonya L — Google review
Great deal and great views. The Ferry is free people, do not pay attention to the scammers that try to sell you a ticket. There are a lot of then around!
Alejandro R — Google review
Still the best and last free way left to experience NYC water and get a good view of the Statue of Liberty. We got some popcorn and got outside and back of the boat seats to enjoy our ride back and forth while visiting NYC. So worth the hour going back and forth!

Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
The Green-Wood Cemetery, located in South Brooklyn, spans 478 acres and was once a Revolutionary War battlefield. Despite its association with death, it became a refuge during the pandemic, offering a peaceful and uncrowded environment for reflection. The cemetery is home to diverse wildlife such as parakeets and groundhogs, along with stunning trees. It also serves as an outdoor museum of New York history through family mausoleums and famous figures' resting places.
One of the most beautiful and largest cemeteries I’ve ever seen — a must-visit for anyone exploring New York City for the second time. It’s a place to walk through in silence and with deep respect. The atmosphere shifts throughout the day, offering the chance to admire some of the most iconic and stunning mausoleums. And let’s not forget the incredible views of Manhattan that make it even more special..
Felipe G — Google review
Absolutely amazing. Must visit place. Make sure you have 2 to 3 hours or more if you are visiting this cemetery. Green-Wood Cemetery is a 478-acre (193 ha) cemetery in the western portion of Brooklyn, New York City. The cemetery is located between South Slope/Greenwood Heights, Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Borough Park, Kensington, and Sunset Park, and lies several blocks southwest of Prospect Park. Its boundaries include, among other streets, 20th Street to the northeast, Fifth Avenue to the northwest, 36th and 37th Streets to the southwest, Fort Hamilton Parkway to the south, and McDonald Avenue to the east. Green-Wood Cemetery was founded in 1838 as a rural cemetery, in a time of rapid urbanization when churchyards in New York City were becoming overcrowded. Described as "Brooklyn's first public park by default long before Prospect Park was created",[8] Green-Wood Cemetery was so popular that it inspired a competition to design Central Park in Manhattan, as well as Prospect Park nearby. The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and was made a National Historic Landmark in 2006. In addition, the 25th Street gates, the Weir Greenhouse, and the Fort Hamilton Parkway Gate & Green-Wood Cemetery Chapel were separately designated as city landmarks by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission at various times.
Aakash B — Google review
Established in 1848, this is a beautiful and serene historic cemetery. There are 600,000 buried here with some very famous people such as Leonard Bernstein and Boss Tweed. A quiet place to wander and admire the architecture and beautiful landscaping including a certified arboretum. It is very hilly and very easy to get lost without a map. There is a main entrance and three additional entrances. I came in the Sunset Parkway entrance ended up at the main entrance at Fort Hamilton Parkway and had to take a subway back to Sunset to get the subway back to Williamsburg. Maps are available at the main entrance. Very highly recommended.
Mike Z — Google review
This is a wonderful spot for quiet reflection. It’s charming and ideal for leisurely walks you could spend hours exploring. Highly recommended for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Admission is free, so feel free to walk right in
Lewis E — Google review
I absolutely love it here. On early mornings or weekdays, it almost feels like you could be the only one here. If I ran into a revolutionary war-era ghost here on a misty morning, I don’t even think I’d be alarmed. It’s not creepy it just feels like a place where the living commune with the dead implicitly. You could forget you’re even in New York City except for the slivers of lower Manhattan that you catch as you pass through. If you walk the perimeter, you also get a little view of the Statue of Liberty on 24th street. You just can’t jog or picnic here, which I think is reasonable.
O — Google review
I love this cemetery. There is so much to see. You can't see it all in one trip. It is a peaceful gem in the middle of the busy city. I highly recommend a visit here. You will not be disappointed.
Julia L — Google review
This is my favorite cemetery in NYC. The mausoleums are beautiful and the baroque gate houses some Argentinian birds that managed to escape and build nests here decades ago. The view of the city and all of the events here are interesting like the death cafe talks. Leonard Bernstein is buried here along with various prominent people in NY.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk and Beach, stretching 2.5 miles along the Atlantic Ocean, offers stunning waterfront views and a glimpse of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Visitors can enjoy South Fin Grill Restaurant, picnic areas, bike lanes, and delis. This historic beach dates back to the 1660s when it was frequented by the Dutch and later became a popular resort in the late 1880s with entertainment venues.
I visited for the 1st time on labor day because I wanted to explore a new area on the last day of summer. I enjoyed my time here for the following reasons. 1st there's no fee to enter, park or to have access to the beach. There are actual restrooms, play area for kids. There's a restaurant on the boardwalk which is the only one I saw,and another spot to grab, fries burgers ice cream etc. You'll have a great view of the verrazano bridge and the lower ny bay. Dog friendly and you're allowed to ride your bike. However few of the boards need maintenance. Only downside if you don't live on the island and you're driving in There's the toll you must pay. If you try getting here by ferry is not convenient at all driving is the best option. It was a great choice to visit and spend my last the of summer. Overall I had a pleasant experience definitely recommended, you don't see any crazy crowds at least not while I was there.

Came here after going to snug harbor botanical garden. Didn’t hit my 10k steps here but finished it off here. Lots of people fishing here also. Cool pier. Was also at the park near by but I was there already. Wanted to come here and finally made it!!!

Heard about the beach from a friend who "got forced onto the verrazzano bridge" . And we decided to check it out on purpose after her review of it. Totally excellent boardwalk, by excellent i mean sketchy which is how I like my boardwalks. The beach is lovely, and the water was gross. Will totally come back.

I've been coming to this beach for a few years now and really love how quiet, clean, and big it is. It's very well maintained and not crowded at all. Free entry, which is always nice, and lots of nice local restaurants

The Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom and democracy, is an iconic national monument in New York City. Standing at 151 feet tall, it was a gift from France to the United States in 1886. Visitors can take guided tours and explore the museum on Liberty Island for stunning harbor and city views. Ferries run regularly from Battery Park and Liberty State Park for easy access.
We booked our visit through Statue City Cruises, the official and only authorized provider for trips to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island — and that’s important to know, as plenty of unofficial sellers will try to offer you “alternative” tickets. We had seen the Statue of Liberty from the water before — on a speedboat called The Beast back in 2018 — but this was our first time setting foot on Liberty Island. And what a difference that makes. The island is larger than we expected, with plenty of space to walk around, grab a snack, and take photos from every angle. We picked up the included audio guide, which offers three different tours, but ended up just exploring on our own. The view toward Manhattan is spectacular, and the statue itself is iconic — impressive both up close and from afar. We tried to get tickets for the crown, but those were sold out nearly two months in advance, so book early if that’s on your list. The museum visit at the end was fascinating, offering great context and artifacts. No wonder over four million people visit every year. A beautiful and memorable experience — absolutely worth the time and effort.

What an amazing.experience. I think it's best to admire it from the water, looking up at its base yiu.miss out on the magnitude of this historical mark. From wiki "The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture of a robed and crowned female on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, within New York City. The copper-clad statue, a gift to the United States from the people of France, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886."
Von N — Google review
We had tickets to visit the crown. We purposely picked the very first time slot to beat crowds. Going through security and boarding the boat is organized chaos. The crown was a unique experience that I recommend. It's a lot of tight steps. The crown tix gives you access to the pedestal and original museum. Unfortunately the new museum which contains the original torch was so crowded we couldn't get close to the exhibits. We were glad to have the general overview/exhibits of the old museum. The ferry lines back weren't too bad since it was October. Can't imagine standing in the summer heat.
Pam B — Google review
An iconic landmark and a meaningful symbol of freedom and history. The ferry ride offers great views of New York Harbor, and you can take amazing photos from many angles. The museum provides interesting information about the statue’s construction and significance. It can be quite crowded, especially during peak seasons, so it’s best to book tickets in advance and arrive early. If you have time, visiting the crown or pedestal gives an even better experience with a unique perspective of the skyline. A must-visit destination when exploring New York City. Truly impressive!

Last visit to Statue of Liberty was over 12 years ago The site has changed & for the better! The main attraction, the statue itself is remarkable, it is bigger than you think, & leaves you with a profound feeling of personal responsibility. It's beautiful to look at! Since my last visit a museum has been added, this is a welcome addition, it details the history of how the statute came to be, gives you up close look at the feet & face & shows the sheet magnitude of the statute. There are lemonade stands, a great gift shop & restaurant & plenty of space to just sit & take in the sights. Well worth a trip if in NY.
Michelle Y — Google review
Access and parking from the New Jersey side were convenient. Even on a Saturday, there were no crowds or long lines. Purchasing tickets online in advance is recommended—as I did for three people—since it allows you to simply show the QR code on your phone at the security checkpoints for quick entry. All security and staff personnel, on both land and boats, are kind and helpful. Tickets are very affordable. Overall a great and hassle free experience, get your family and friends and visit these historic and cultural landmarks. Totally worth it!
Jimi U — Google review
Best experience in NYC. We took the Ferry ride from Liberty Park New Jersey and it was convenient as there was ample parking even in weekends. I would recommend entire experience like going up to the pedestal and crown would be great. But the best view of the statue is from the ferry itself when they pull over to the island. Enjoy!

It's a incredible place, very beautiful and it has a beautiful history. It has a 25 dolar fee. You should visit the museum, it shows the history of the place. But I didn't like the food to much, the break was dry, but the taste was ok.

The Staten Island September 11th Memorial stands as a poignant tribute to the residents of Staten Island who lost their lives in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Located conveniently near the St. George Ferry Terminal, this memorial features two large postcards adorned with a granite plaque listing the names of those who perished. While it offers stunning views back towards Manhattan along the North Shore Waterfront Esplanade, its primary purpose is to honor and remember victims rather than serve as a photography backdrop.
A moving and beautiful memorial dedicated to the Staten Islanders lost on September 11th, 2001. The memorial lists the names of those lost during September 11th and beautifully frames the Manhattan skyline where the original World Trade Center Towers once stood and now where One World Trade Center stands. Surrounded by a small park, it is a true must-see while exploring Staten Island.
Brian C — Google review
Staten Island was such a pleasant surprise! It’s calm, clean, and feels like a completely different world compared to the chaos of Manhattan. The free Staten Island Ferry offers amazing views of the Statue of Liberty and the skyline — seriously one of the best things you can do in NYC without spending a dime. There are also nice parks, beaches, and great spots to grab a bite away from the tourist crowds. People were friendly, and it just felt more relaxed and family-friendly. If you want a break from the noise of the city but still want to feel like you’re in New York — Staten Island is the place.

Such a beautiful monument. I passed by often, but visiting at night was truly incredible. Very meaningful and profound. Would definitely recommend paying respects here. Never forget 🇺🇸🇺🇸🫡🫡
Avi F — Google review
We went here by happenstance. We had taken the ferry as way of seeing the view from the harbor and discovered this beautiful tribute. It’s very beautiful and moving in its simplicity and elegant design. An excellent memorial for those who lost their lives on that tragic day.
Allan H — Google review
Great way to get out and away from the noise of the city and to see Lady Liberty! The AC was so nice in the heat and the small shops offered tasty treats and cold beer. We had fun walking the fishing pier and trying a new Mediterranean cuisine place. Snug harbor was also pretty and educational!
Jason J — Google review
Very nice view of Jersey/Manhattan/Long Island from a far. This place also has wildlife walking around which is kinda cool ! Now this park was built as a memorial for 9/11 and the sculpture which resembles white wings features names of people who died in the attack. The wings are centered to see the emplacement of the Twin Towers.
Kévin D — Google review
My dad, relatives and I have walked to this memorial on a nice and sunny day. The main Staten Island 9/11 memorial is called Postcards, a permanent outdoor sculpture dedicated in 2004 to honor the 274 Staten Island residents killed on 9/11 and in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The memorial's design features two large "postcards" that frame the view of the former World Trade Center site across the harbor, a symbolic line pointing directly to Ground Zero. Each victim is memorialized with a granite plaque featuring their silhouette, name, and birth date.

Covering an expansive 2,200 acres, the park will offer various passive and active recreational opportunities for visitors. Really nice place to ride a bike and explore. The park is not entirely opened yet. When I went there was supposed to be a guided birding tour, but it ended up being an "explore" yourself kind of a day which I didn't expect.
Alvin H — Google review
Rode my bike from Brooklyn and took the ferry to check this place out. It was a great little day trip. I don’t really know how to rate the park, as it is a really bizarre place. In any sense it’s amazing that they could turn a landfill into fields of tall grass so big you feel like you’re lost in Kansas somewhere. The air does smell fresh, but there were some concerning things. For example, there was rust colored runoff throughout the park. I was told by a park attendant that this comes from the minerals which help decompose the garbage. Anyway, I was here over a year ago so the photos are old but definitely check this place out if you get the opportunity.

The park features ponds, wetlands, and hardwood forests that provide a home to various wildlife such as blue heron, muskrats, turtles, and wood ducks.
Awesome hike trail. Followed the yellow and blue markings. Highly recommend! Also, please do not litter 🙏🏼

I've only seen a small area of the park, but it's beautiful! Always clean. The trails are clearly marked. It's a very romantic spot. ❤️
Keenya H — Google review
Took a bit to get there with the bus, especially when the driver didn't know anything about the park, but found it after a half hour of walking. Several trails to walk, you really need good hiking shoes as the trails are very rocky, and some are slippery, did not see any wildlife, there is a bird trail with a wooden walkway, beautiful lake that you can sit by or fish, some benches along the way, trees were still mostly green. Will definitely go back with better directions. Update! Went back found the main entrance, could use better signs to show the way in. Saw an eagle catch a fish, saw a bluejay, still very enjoyable.
Charles C — Google review
We went to this park first time on a Sunday afternoon. It’s extremely quiet and peaceful. Since it’s not spring yet, the park was quite empty. It would be a lot nicer in a few weeks. We definitely enjoyed our time hiking here, and plan to come back again soon. Highly recommended this trail to everyone, especially families with younger kids.
H H — Google review
Too many mosquitoes...paths Too rustic...great for experienced hikers not for beginners. Better maps needed with clear accurate descriptions.. But nevertheless less I am glad that such a natural location is available for those able to use it. If it wasn't preserved now it would have been lost forever. Mary thanks to the volunteers.
Churchroad11220 — Google review
Great urban hiking spot. This place is the reason a city kid like me developed any interests in hiking, exploring and an appreciation for nature. Local history of the area is also interesting. Lots of different well blazed trails for hiking, strolling, bird watching and running. Never too far from a road. Little lakes and seasonal streams. Good place to come with kids for a day out. Bring lots of bug spray and maybe avoid during height of summer as it’s swampy and the mosquitoes are EVIL.
Loriann X — Google review
First time I've been to this place, was to hike around. I did some Cafe deliveries before coming here. It'll be great to come here in the springtime but for fall season it's very cold. I started taking some photos and making sure I was aware of my surroundings. 👍 I felt like I was Ill prepared to come here because I was wearing dress shoes while stepping on rocks that go through my feet. And I wore so many layers of clothing and had gloves on and the slipperiest hat that I could have on my head.😕 Either way it's nice to have an experience walking around this place. 👌🌄🙂 Someone from my group told me it'll be nice to camp here and I said yeah "maybe". This is a couple of miles away from The JCC. So next time if I do come here I'll be prepared and ready. If you want to climb some hills and take walks with your dog 🐕, come here if you want.

Blue Heron Park, situated in the peaceful Annadale neighborhood, offers a multitude of secluded walking trails. These trails cover a distance of approximately 3 miles and provide an opportunity to admire charming ponds teeming with ducks. Additionally, there are expansive wetlands behind the admin building along the orange trail, offering tranquility despite being damp. The park is ideal for taking leisurely strolls and is rarely crowded around 3pm.
Found this park in Staten Island, only went through part of the park but it's clean, several trails, saw different species of birds, everyone that I meet usually say hello. One problem is there isn't any sign telling you where the park is.

I went for a workshop and cannot give an opinion on the actual Park. The Park Rangers were very nice and informative. That turtle is cute.

Great place to hike and look for animals, it just needs a fix to the pathways with wood to walk on. Found frogs, turtles, and some cool birds.
Skylah H — Google review
Excellent walking trails tucked away in the Annadale neighborhood. Did a majority of the trails available with my partner and it amounted to 3 miles or so. Nice ponds and ducks to see. Also some vast open space, albeit wet, behind admin building on orange trail. Great peace and quiet.
Bradley P — Google review
Great trails. Be prepared for mud, but it is fun!! Saw 11 deer including many tagged bucks. Enjoy the pond on the orange trail. Be patient...big Tom, the turtle might just greet you and you might see the little blue heron catching fish. I loved the more woodsy yellow and blue trails especially. Warning: ticks are active. Shower when you get home.
Carol M — Google review
Nice park to take a walk, visited few times and not ones have I've seen anyone walking on any trails around 3pm. I would recommend using bug spray, decent amount of mosquitoes around. While there we have encountered rabbits, frogs, different types of birds and of course squirrels.
Mad M — Google review
An excellent example of natural beauty on Staten Island and NYC, places like this are worth conserving, unfortunately littering is a massive issue as the roads that segment the park are immediate areas where drivers discard their trash, which then migrates further into the wooded areas and bodies of water.

A very cool and historical place to visit at the base of the Veranzano Bridge on Staten Island! There is an original fort from the 1800's and a beautiful park with so many outdoor activity areas like bike and walking paths, beaches for fishing, swimming, boating and camping! 😁👌🏻 A great place to watch the boats coming and going with all of New York City as a backdrop, we were there to watch family members depart on the Symphony of the Seas! 🚢🏝️😎👋🏻

Great place for a beautiful view of the Verrazano Bridge , New York and Brooklyn. We wales around the park and we’re able to walk about the outside walls of Fort Wadsworth. The visitor center is open Friday thru Monday from 10 am to 4 pm. The Fort itself is open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. I would recommend a walking tour to learn and explore the fort.

Very cool and interesting place to visit. Lots of boards with info about the different things you are seeing. I did not enter Battery Weed as it was locked but it was fun to see up close regardless. The views of the water, bridge and skyline are great. There are benches also closer to the bridge if you just want to relax and take in the view. Check out the old defense cannon by that area also.
