Cathedral
Catholic church
Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral - National Shrine of Our Lady of Candles is a Catholic cathedral in Iloilo City, known for its unique features such as an external staircase and a detached bell tower. It holds historical significance, being inaugurated in December 1936 when Iloilo was elevated to city status. The cathedral is part of the rich cultural heritage of Iloilo, which includes other Spanish-era historic sites like Miag-ao Church and Molo Parish Church.
In our "Visita Iglesia 2025", we scheduled the Jaro Cathedral as the fourth church we had to visit because we find it convenient to kick off our church-hopping with the farthest church, the one in Cabatuan which is around 23 kilometers from Iloilo City. Yet, an exigency asserted itself that changed our original itinerary. Coming from Negros Occidental, we arrived in Dumangas Port at 1:30AM. My wife and I tried to catch some sleep in the terminal and managed to get one that lasted close to two hours before we boarded a tricycle for the ride to Tagbak Terminal in Iloilo City for a fare of P100.00 each. It was 10 minutes before 5:00AM when we arrived in the terminal where we learned that the terminal for Cabatuan is in Ungka. Since the Jaro Plaza where the cathedral is located lies in the middle along the way to Ungka and the time for the opening of the church is not too long in coming, we decided to start our visita in the Cathedral, the very seat of the archdiocese where our diocese, the Diocese of Bacolod, is subordinate. In significance, it was a fitting start. I've noticed about a couple of times in the past the belfry (built in 1744) that stands away from the church but not the historic cathedral while passing by the Jaro Plaza. Belle and I were fortunate to arrive by jeepney (the Leganes-Villa) in the plaza before the start of the morning mass on Maundy Thursday when mass goers were already inside the church while the others were still arriving. Among the crowd were devotees for visita iglesia, including bikers for their "bisekleta iglesia" . While the mode of transport for the latter is the bicycle the common mode of transport for this type of pilgrimage during Holy Week is the privately owned or hired 4-wheel vehicle. Belle and I were the oddest because we do our church-hopping by commuting. Jaro became a parish in 1587 but reverted back to a visita in 1613 for lack of priests and became a parish again in 1636. The parish priest, Fr. Bernardo Alisen transferred the poblacion from Alanga which was vulnerable to Moro attracks to its present site. Construction of the stone church occurred between 1742-1744. However, it was damaged by earthquake twice - in 1787 and in the 19th century. The Diocese of Jaro was established from the Diocese of Cebu on May 27, 1865. It is the fifth oldest diocese established in the country and it counted churches in Basilan, Davao, Negros, Palawan, Romblon and Zamboanga. Instead of reconstructing the 18th century church, the cathedral was built on a new site. It was completed in 1874. I found the cathedral rather small in contrast to its stature. It is an outstanding Romanesque Revivalist in architecture. In front of it is a small fenced garden. The two belfries on the roof are recent additions. The balcony and the two symmetrical staircases are also recent additions. I was focused on prayer while standing in the crowd inside the church that I found out later that I haven't taken a picture or a video clip of the interior. Belle was lucky to have gotten photos and videos, unmindful of the crowd. Belle and I left the cathedral after the procession of priests led by the archbishop himself. The plaza is a major convergence of many jeepney routes in the city. We picked easily the Unka-Iloilo City jeep for the Unka Terminal that the driver pointed out to us later, but not before I saw myself the terminal shed in the opposite side of the Old Iloilo-Capiz Road in Ungka.

Date of visit: May 30, 2025 It was my third visit to the church. Convenient to commute here either from Mohon Terminal at Villa Arevalo by baby buses with route to Mandurriao-Festive Walk/Iloilo Business Park-Jaro-WVSU or if you'll be coming from the city proper, there are many traditional jeepneys with Jaro-CPU route. I'm a frequent commuter myself. The church is such a beauty with solemn interiors as the all-male saints line up the aisle going to the altar where I also marveled at the mural and ceiling paintings. The Adoration Chapel is nearby. I didn't take a picture of the church's interiors because by the time I reached Jaro Cathedral, there was a funeral Mass going on. When I think of Jaro Cathedral, one of the things I would associate with it are melted candles on a rack while the flames on the wick are still not extinguished yet as prayers of the faithful silently fill the adjacent Candle Chapel. The shrine of the image of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria which was canonically crowned by the late St. John Paul II in 1981 was atop the cathedral's upper facade. Lighting of candles there is not allowed; do that in the Candle Chapel. I also noticed since my first visit those vagrants roaming around the church's compound. They did not annoy the visitors and churchgoers yet their begging presence bring on that emotional "blackmail". Same scenes you'll also encounter at the well-known Metro Manila churches of Quiapo, Baclaran, etc. There is the anti-mendicancy law and I hope those people, God willing, would live in dignity once more by having decent jobs or livelihoods.

Stepping into this old Catholic church feels like entering a sacred piece of history. The weathered stone walls, intricate stained-glass windows, and towering bell tower speak of centuries of devotion and tradition. Despite its age, the church remains well-maintained, with a peaceful ambiance perfect for quiet prayer and reflection. The aroma of incense lingers in the air, and the soft flicker of candles adds to its solemn charm. Whether you’re religious or simply appreciate heritage sites, this church offers a serene and humbling experience.

Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral The Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral — formally the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary & National Shrine of Our Lady of Candles — in Jaro, Iloilo City, is an exceptional blend of religious significance, heritage architecture, and local devotion. From the moment you approach its façade, the cathedral impresses with its Romanesque-Revival style — the semi-circular arches, the broad flight of stairs leading up to the statue of the Virgin Mary (Our Lady of the Candles) suspended above the entrance, all whispering of a long and layered history. Inside, the atmosphere shifts to one of quiet reverence: the candle chapel, the soft lighting, the sense that generations of believers have passed through this space. One reviewer captured it well: > “Stepping into this old Catholic church feels like entering a sacred piece of history. … The soft flicker of candles adds to its solemn charm.” Historically, the cathedral is a landmark in more ways than one. It is the seat of the Archdiocese of Jaro and since its completion in 1874 has gone through several reconstructions (after earthquakes and calamities) yet retains much of its original spirit. More uniquely, it houses the image of Our Lady of Candles — the only Marian image in the Philippines personally crowned by a Pope (Saint John Paul II) — making it a major pilgrimage destination. Visitors and worshippers alike note several strengths: the peaceful ambiance even amid the city, the beautifully maintained structure, and the ease of access (it’s located just off Jaro Plaza, with transport options). One practical tip: arrive early, especially on Sunday masses, if you’d like a good seat or want to light a candle without rushing. That said, a few caveats: The immediate surroundings can be busy, especially along the street near the belfry (the Jaro Belfry) which stands detached across the road — it’s a fascinating quirk of this site, but also means you’re somewhat mingling with urban traffic. Also, some parts of the church are under regular maintenance or restoration, so certain viewpoints might be temporarily obscured. If you’re visiting for photography or quiet reflection, mid-morning or early afternoon are quieter times. Whether you’re drawn by faith, architecture, or heritage, the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral is deeply rewarding. It offers a serene and solemn setting, a connection to centuries of local belief, and a physical space that invites pause. If you go, wear respectful attire (the church highlights a dress code to underscore its sacred character).
ARMANDO H — Google review
This is my second time visiting the cathedral, and it still feels profoundly sacred. The view surrounding it is breathtaking—truly a serene experience.
Ryian B — Google review
A church has been at this site since the 16th century. The current building is in the style of NeoRomanesque. The belfries has a more modern Romanesque styling, while the facade has an older Romanesque look and appears to to some cues from Byzantine Romanesque. The fame of the church stems from it's status as the National Shrine of the Our Lady of Candles, the first Marian image to be officially crowned personally by a Pope (John Paul II). The Marian image is encased image on a balcony in front of the church.
Chung H — Google review
Come at least 30 minutes before the scheduled mass starts especially during Sundays. Candles are priced at 10 pesos each. Kids at the entrance sell it for 7 pesos. It's okay to bring your own candles. During afternoons, food carts are lined up outside. If it gets too crowded, there's a food cart on the right side of the church facing the plaza in E. Lopez street. Meanwhile bibingkas are sold for 50 pesos per 10 pcs. You can ask the vendor to buy per piece (5 pesos) just to have a taste, they allow it. It's nice to have it after attending the early morning mass (or even in the afternoon).

Jaro cathedral is an architectural masterpiece of a church. As you enter, the double fenced gates, you are greeted by local souvenir stores and dual statues of prominent Christian figures. Inside the church, a local explained how this was the brother church to the one in Molo, filled with male saints. There are also many prayer stations and confession booths. The stations of the cross represented in the church were also beautiful, scattered around. Outside on the right is the chapel of lights for prayers and lighting of candles. There was also a memorial wall just outside of the church

Molo Church, a neo-Gothic colonial church constructed in 1831, is renowned for its white-coral facade and statues of female saints. It stands out as the only Gothic-Renaissance Church outside of Manila in the entire country, making it a significant historical and heritage site in Western Visayas. The church's architecture is quite progressive for its time, with its dedication to female saints and Gothic style construction being surprising considering Spain's rivals used the technique.
This is a pretty church directly opposite Molo Mansion. It has a Gothic design with heavy influences from Classicism. It's known for having statues of only female saints, although there is a statue of the Archangel Michael near the entrance, so I don't know if that counts. There was a wedding on the day I visited, so sadly I was not about to get closer to the altar. From a distance, it's possible to see that the Gothic reredo has the church's patroness, Saint Anne, , along with statues of the Virgin with Child and the Holy Trinity.

Beautiful old church! I lived in Iloilo for 5yrs and I always pass this church but never came in to see it. Now I came back after over 2 decades and I appreciated it more. They started building the church in 1885 and it still stands until now. Inside, its a bit more modern but the structure has withstood wars, typhoons and floods. There was a wedding there when we arrived and it was filled with flower decors. The plaza in front is large enough for people to sit and chill.

As the parish priest explained, this is a feminist church, all saints inside the church are women. It was dedicated to all the strong women of the community when it was built. The streets around it are named after male saints, signifying how the men protect the women in their town.

Santa Ana Parish Church, commonly known as Molo Church, is a Spanish neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church located in the district of Molo in Iloilo City, in the Philippines. It is under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Jaro. The church is recognized as "the women's church" or "the feminist church" because it only features images of female saints inside, including Saint Anne, the patron saint of Molo. The National Historical Institute declared it a national landmark in 1992
Owens B — Google review
Before flying back to Manila, attended Sunday Mass at the Molo Church. There was a lot to be thankful for, the great vacation, the marvelous people we interacted with and the fabulous experiences we had. It is my practice whenever I enter a new church to pray for 3 wishes (one for the world, one for the country and one for my family) followed by 3 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Marys and 3 Glory Bes. Molo Church is also known as Sta Ana Parish. St Anne is married to Joachim. She is the mother of Mary, therefore she is the maternal grandmother of Jesus Christ. St Anne is the patron saint of Molo so Molo Church is dedicated to her. The Parish is known to be the "feminist church" giving emphasis and recognition to female saints as 16 statues line up the sides of the church leading to the altar. If you go to any church here in the country most of the church lay workers and servers are female so there is wisdom in choosing to be female centric. The Molo Church was constructed in 1831. It is the only Gothic style church in the country outside of Metro Manila. It is said that Dr Jose Rizal visited here in August of 1886 to view the biblical paintings which are no longer around at this time. In 1992, the National Historical Institute declared this as a National Landmark.

Hidden amidst the bustling present-day surroundings lies a church that feels as though it’s been plucked from the pages of an old spellbook or lifted from a scene in Harry Potter.

Molo Mansion is a historic home located in a picturesque area, offering a souvenir shop with artisanal gifts and a cafe. It was inaugurated in December 1936, marking Iloilo's elevation from a municipality to a city. The mansion is part of the rich history and culture of Iloilo, which includes numerous old Spanish-era historic sites such as the iconic Molo Parish Church.
Molo Mansion is one of the most popular historical landmarks in the Iloilo Province. Its main attraction is its beautiful neoclassical-art deco heritage house, which will be 100 years old in 2026. Its location indicates its prominence or importance to the town as it is facing the Molo Plaza and the beautiful Molo Church. Visitors to Iloilo have at least 2 reasons to go to Molo: go to church and see the mansion. Parking in the mansion's compound is not a problem. There are quaint cafes that offer light snacks in the area. Inside the mansion, people will find beautifully curated products by Kultura. Visitors usually have their pictures taken on the entrance steps or with the mansion as the background. The mansion was originally owned by the Lacson-Yusay family and now by the SM Group. #MoloMansion #MoloChurch #Iloilo #HeritageHouse #freeEntrance #touristSpot

stands as a beautifully preserved piece of history, offering a timeless escape for both locals and tourists. Once a grand ancestral home of a prominent family, this old mansion has gracefully transitioned into a heritage landmark. At the back of the property, you'll find ample parking, making access easy even for groups or weekend crowds. Within the premises, several kiosks and cozy corners offer a delightful range of snacks, local delicacies, and freshly brewed coffee. Whether you're craving native kakanin, cold refreshments, or a relaxing cup of café latte, there’s something here to satisfy the senses

A truly beautiful historical building. The first floor houses Kultura, a souvenir shop, while the second floor is not accessible. There are also several cafés within the grounds, making it a nice place to relax and spend some time.

Inconic building, nice to visit. Just cross from Molo church. You can do both at the same time. If you like walking you can walk through the river all the way to these two pla. It will take you 30 to 40 minutes to get to them. It closes at 7 pm. Make sure you get therw by 6pm to have time. There are few booths for food and drinks inside the mansión perimeter
Hussein A — Google review
Had snacks here on a Sunday. While there were plenty of restaurant options, the overall environment felt stressful due to the overlapping noise from the mass at Molo Church and the nearby busker singing. It would be great if Molo Mansion management could coordinate the schedule better. Perhaps pausing the busker’s performance during mass and resuming it afterward.

Camiña Balay Nga Bato is a well-preserved ancestral house from the mid-1800s that combines Filipino and Spanish architectural styles. It offers tours of its interior, which features antique furniture, intricate carvings, and colorful artwork. This charming destination is known for its traditional Filipino hospitality and delicious snacks. Additionally, it houses a beautiful museum that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines.
Date of visit: May 28, 2025. Before pandemic, I think the entrance was 150 pesos then and it had a price hike after a couple of years, though! After payment for entrance at the souvenir shop, a downloaded video from Rappler about the house tour was presented. The owners of the old house really take care of their ancestors' legacy. The whole house, with all the antiques and other cherished things from the past, is already a museum itself plus restaurant. Dining areas occupy almost the whole second floor. Camiña Balay, just like most of Iloilo's heritage houses, brings that Old World nostalgia. Visitors are of diverse background and not everyone can be pleased yet if you're into history and fascination for "bahay na bato" with all the antiques, don't miss this important cultural property when you're in this suburban district of Iloilo City. After the tour, they serve cookies and thick hot cocoa drink served in pretty little porcelain cups. So reminiscent of a chapter in Noli Me Tangere by Jose Rizal where two types of the said beverage, according to the gossip of the unnamed municipal Alperez, were Padre Salvi's culinary language when it comes to accepting guests; the two Noli characters are known to be bitter frenemies. "Chocolate e" for honored visitors, which means, the best quality hot chocolate that is syrupy and coats the biscuit or cookies. "Chocolate a" for unwanted visitors; the thinly-prepared cocoa drink, probably a sikwate.

I was the only visitor when I went. Entrance plus batirol and merienda priced at 200 pesos. I like how they make sure that even if you come by for the batirol you have embed the cultural history of the place! Kudos to the Camina’s!

This ancestral house took my breath away and I was just in awe. It's a living museum since the descendants of the owners sill inhabit the place. We arrived at around 10 AM and we were the only guests at that time. The entrance fee is 200 PHP (which is roughly around $3.50 USD depending on the conversion rate). You will be accompanied by a tour guide. The ground floor is where you can buy lots of pasalubong: Muscovado Sugar, artisan soaps, scarves, artisan salt, and a lot more! The house is made up of stone and has pillars of wood. My favorite room was the altar room where I got to pray and medidate. They have a Sto. Niño that's 3 centuries old in display. At the end of the tour, you could drink as much tsokolate de batirol (hot chocolate) you want. The drink comes with a plate full of local biscuits and fruits in season (we were served a papaya). All in all, the house was a trip to the past-- and it shows how important it is to preserve sites such as these for the present and beyond.

Beautiful, well-preserved house. After a quick tour of the house, you'll be served tablea. We paid extra for the pancit molo soup which I think is worth it. They also have a souvenir shop offering a selection of local products.

I arrived about 3pm and bought a ticket, which included chocolate espresso drink. The ticket was supposed to be a partly guided tour. There was supposed to be a 5 minute intro video. However, there was already a group of Filipinos who were already watching the video before us. By the time we started watching it was the last 30 seconds or so at which point the guide took us upstairs, shown around a few rooms, then to the dining area to get the chocolate drink. The house was pretty with lots of original wood features, especially the antique furnishing that really gives a nice sense of 19th century old world Filipino architecture. The drink was quite nice, but I was pretty disappointed with the tour. However, without the video to give context to the visit, I learned nothing about the house and had to look it up later.

A lovely little place with absolutely amazing hot chocolate. Would recommend a visit, it's a fourth generation hand down of their recipe. The hot chocolate was nice and thick staff were friendly the place is very antique like. Oh and there's a little tradition where you have to walk up the steps sideways?
Squidgy H — Google review
Nice place to visit if you want to appreciate historical places in Iloilo. Their tablea is really good and you can ask for refills. There aren't many places to tour in the house. It's really more of a place to have merienda or rest between your trip. The price of the ticket is 200 and includes your drink + biscuits.
Pia M — Google review
I really liked the pancit molo because it’ very tasty with all the spices and the fresh papaya. But, what I loved the most was the tablea hot choco because it’s delicious and it’s refillable. On top of that, all of the food comes from their own farm. I would definitely come back here 100% when I visit Iloilo again.

Nestled in the heart of Iloilo City, Museo Iloilo is a treasure trove for art and history enthusiasts alike. This government-sponsored museum stands as a testament to the region's rich cultural heritage, featuring an impressive array of historical artifacts, fossils, and stunning artworks. Visitors can explore traditional Panay Bukidnon textiles that reflect indigenous beliefs through their vibrant patterns. Additionally, the museum proudly showcases contemporary pieces from local artists, highlighting the dynamic evolution of artistic expression in Iloilo.
Regular: ₱50 Student: ₱20 We left our IDs at the hotel but the kind lady at the entrance saw that my kid is still of student age. You also have to register your name and where you are from. The museum is only one entire floor and is well ventilated. It has lots of interesting content and is just right beside the Prison museum.

A Contemporary Museum housing Modern Arts along with Spanish - Filipino History. It was raining when I visited and I wanted to go to the next museum beside it but I had no umbrella and the museum officer asked his staff to help me cross over by showing me the way and letting me borrow an extra umbrella. Thank you for the kind gesture guys. Great hospitality in Iloilo 😊 P50 Entrance fee.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Must-Visit Cultural Treasure in Iloilo! Museo Iloilo is an absolute gem and a must-see when visiting Iloilo City. As the first regional museum outside Manila, it beautifully showcases the rich history and culture of Western Visayas. The collection is impressive with over 300 artifacts including ancient pottery, fossils, Spanish-era religious art, traditional textiles, and works by local artists. The exhibits are well-curated and take you on a fascinating journey from prehistoric times through the Spanish colonial period to modern day. The museum building itself is architecturally interesting with its modernist design. Everything is well-maintained and air-conditioned, making it comfortable to explore. What I loved most was how affordable it is - truly accessible to everyone. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Whether you're a history buff or just curious about Ilonggo culture, this museum offers an enriching experience. Highly recommend spending an hour or two here to appreciate Iloilo's heritage

Right across the Provincial Capitol along Bonifacio Drive, Museo Iloilo is a must-visit for first-timers. 🏺💛 It’s compact but packed with history — from pre-colonial artifacts to local art pieces. Super easy to find, and perfect for a quick but meaningful stop! I enjoyed my visit. There's a minimal fee of PhP50.

Museo Iloilo has an entrance fee of 50 PHP. Most of the relics shown here focuses on the rich history of Iloilo. There were clay jars, real Mickey mouse money (which was astounding to me!! Never in my life would I have ever imagined to see Mickey mouse money in the flesh!), a real gold death mask, wooden carvings or religious statues and saints. It's quite hot when we visited. Only a few A/C units were found inside but there are several industrial type electric fans that make up for it. You shouldn't miss this place since it's just a 2-minute walk from the National Museum of Iloilo.

The Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art (ILOMOCA) is a cultural gem in the City of Love, featuring a vast collection of contemporary Filipino art. It provides a platform for Ilonggo artists to showcase their works, addressing the challenge of limited exhibition spaces. The museum's diverse exhibits offer an ideal setting for individuals and couples to appreciate art away from digital distractions, making it a perfect place for introspection and relaxation.
A must-visit spot when you're in Iloilo! The ILOMOCA showcases an impressive collection of stunning artworks—you’ll be immersed in their beauty in no time. The museum attendant is also friendly and accommodating, offering to take photos and share background information on some pieces.

The exhibits are excellent and well-organized. The place is clean. There are places for activities. Definitely a must visit for museum enthusiasts. Entrance fee is P150 (roughly less than US$3) Minus points for the bathroom. Water supply was horrible when I used it.

it’s a must visit museum if you’re into arts or an enthusiast of museums and galleries. really liked marrz capanang’s exhibit at the ground floor and the interactive art display that you could get your hands dirty for filling in the empty spaces with paint. they have a few interactive installations like the one on the ground floor and a much more kid-centric or for kids at heart by the second floor, promoting disability as a strength which speaks volumes and instills these values to youths early on! we went at a rainy time a few minutes before opening. to be honest, we were short on cash by 100 and needed to withdraw in the mall across the street but it was raining so hard and the staff was kind enough to accommodate us by paying digitally instead. but it’s really not standard, you have to pay cash upfront unless there’s really really bad rain! it’s a 150 per person by regular rate, seniors/pwd at 120, and students for 100 so be ready if you’re visiting. overall a really nice morning visit to a local museum with great art too. just a comment that in their signs it says there’s a shop, but there really isn’t. maybe it’s yet to come or under construction, but hopefully it would be available the next time i come by.

ILOMOCA is Iloilo's contemporary art museum. The Entrance Fee is 150 PHP. It's right beside the Brandy Museum, and they're open TUE-SUN, from 10:00 AM to 6:00PM. They have several galleries and it's always on rotation since they mean to highlight Ilonggo artists and their work. CAPTURING VIDEOS IS NOT ALLOWED! The experience is pretty enjoyable.

Nestled in the heart of Iloilo, Casa Mariquit Javellana-Lopez stands as a stunning testament to history and heritage. This beautifully preserved house, built in 1803, has been lovingly maintained through generations. It served as the home of Mariquit Javellana Lopez and her husband Fernando Lopez Sr., who held significant roles in Philippine history.
This was a worth while tour of the house built in the Spanish time. A wonderful tour conducted by the young caretaker of the property. The stairs and furniutre including the flooring were all preserved in good condition. A plus, the tour guide was good in taking pictures of you at good spots in the house. We will definetly go back to this tourist spot in Iloilo! 🤓
Sonny C — Google review
If only walls and furniture could talk, what stories they can tell. Went on a guided tour of Casa Mariquit Javellana-Lopez. This is considered the oldest heritage house in Iloilo City. It was built in 1803 (222 years old now) for Ramon Javellana both as a bank and their residence. This was also the residence of Maria Salvacion "Mariquit" Javellana, his granddaughter who became the wife of the only two time Vice President of the Philippines, Fernando "Nanding" Lopez. He was the VP of both Quirino and Marcos. His chance at the Presidency never happened because Marcos declared Martial Law and stayed in power for 20 years. This home is now a museum. Open to the public, tours are being conducted by the house caretakers, father and son, Bon Bon and Jon Jon. Upkeep of the house is being handled by Mariquit's son-in-law, Robert Puckett. He is one of the proponents of alternative energy. Back in 1991, he was already espousing solar energy and is considered a pillar of the e-jeepney. Jon Jon had a lot of interesting stories to tell specially about the age of the objects in the house like the 125 yr old Grandfather Clock that's made in Germany that has not been primed nor serviced all this time and is still working. The Balete tree outside the house that is believed to be 300 years old. The hole in the wall of the upstairs living area which is believed to be a peephole for Mariquit to see if suitors serenading ("harana") her are to her liking. If so, she steps out into the veranda, if not she's "not home." Pope John Paul II who is now a saint visited the house in 1981 and prayed with them in the Oratorio or prayer room. They had good ties with the Church and even have a tunnel from the house that ends in the belfry of the Jaro Cathedral. Probably Church collection was passed through here to reach the bank safely. This supposedly was very helpful during the Second World War to hide females from the invading Japanese. Were all these true? The walls and the house would know. It has been around more years than you and I.
Chito M — Google review
It's a well-maintained ancestral house. Personally, the inside of the house felt spooky but the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the place and I learned so much that it made me brush off the initial fear of going inside the house! It's only about a 10-minute walk from Jaro Cathedral. You don't need to buy tickets in advance, all you have to do is walk in and you'll be greeted by caretakers. The house is vast-- with wide rooms and lots of pictures and paintings. The windows are made of capiz shells and the floorboards and ceiling made of wood. I specifically liked the dining hall, the courtyard at the back, and the balcony. It's quite dim inside. When we visited it's just us and the tour guide. The entrance fee is just 50 PHP.
Akii — Google review
It was an enchanting visit the second time around. My first visit was in 2016 and there were a lot of people but this time, we were almost favored a private tour. A must-see in Jaro, Iloilo. Shout-out to the caretaker who has a great passion in preserving history and encourages the younger generation to stay grounded in their roots.
Mariela D — Google review
Enjoyed the tour from one of the caretakers, Sir Wayne! He provides history tid bits of the house and the family that owns it and has really good photography skills! Entrance is only 50 per pax and you just have to look for any of the caretakers to get in.
Maine S — Google review
Was guided by the caretaker and essentially given a private tour. He showed me the different rooms and pointed some notable pieces of furniture. The caretaker also lives there by himself and has made a few repairs of his own. By the end of the tour he shared a few somber stories about his past relationship with the owners of the house. Casa Mariquit is not formally a museum as he shared that registering it as a historical site would entail costs which he cannot shoulder. That just shows how lacking the country's efforts are in preserving and recognizing ancestral landmarks around the Philippines.
Anna S — Google review
Built in 1803 as both a bank and a residence by Ramon Javellana, the two-story ancestral house eventually became a home for his granddaughter, Maria "Mariquit" Javellana (whom the house was named after), and his husband, Fernando Lopez, Sr., who served as the Vice President of the Philippines for three terms (once under President Elpidio Quirino and twice under former dictator Ferdinand Marcos). With its red brick architecture and original molave panels and woods, it serves as a portal mirroring how the elite once lived in the 18th century. The house seems closed to the public but it is not. You just have to ask around and the caretaker will let you in. The entrance cost 50 PHP per person.

The Museum of Philippine Economic History, located in Iloilo City, Philippines, is a speciality museum that showcases the economic development of the country. Housed in the Ynchausti y Compania building, it features artifacts and exhibits depicting the evolution of trade and commerce from the pre-colonial era to modern times. Visitors can explore galleries highlighting the barter and fishing economy of native communities, Spanish-era textile industry, American modernization, and Japanese occupation.
I love the structures. They restored it well, worth visiting, while watching dinagyang, very spacious and informative, glad that it free and open for everyone, I also like the details of the staircase and stained windows.

The exterior and interior design of the building were beautiful, creating a wonderful atmosphere. I was surprised that this museum offers free admission; it’s definitely worth paying for, even if there were an entrance fee. The museum exhibits a wide variety of items, including traditional Filipino clothing, various banknotes, weapons and accessories used in battles, and more. I was really excited as I looked around. The staff were also very friendly, and I’d love to visit this place again.

The Museum of Philippine Economic History in Iloilo, I must say, was a truly enriching experience. Located in the historic Old Town area, this museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning about the Philippines' economic past. As I stepped inside, I was immediately struck by the beautiful architecture of the building, which dates back to the early 19th century. The museum's collection is impressive, with a wide range of artifacts and exhibits that showcase the country's economic development from the pre-colonial period to the present day. What I found particularly fascinating was the section on the sugar industry, which played a significant role in Iloilo's economy during the Spanish colonial period. The exhibits on the museum's second floor, which feature artifacts related to the Philippines' trade and commerce with other countries, were also noteworthy. The museum's staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and they were happy to answer my questions and provide additional information about the exhibits. I highly recommend the Museum of Philippine Economic History to anyone visiting Iloilo. It's a great place to learn about the country's wealthy economic history and a hidden gem in this beautiful city. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9am to 5pm. Admission is free, although donations are welcome. Guided tours are available upon request. The museum is wheelchair accessible.

This is an excellent museum telling the story of Filipino economy starting from the Spanish Colonial period to mid 20th century. It covers mainly the commodities and industries that were the most important to the economy of Philippines. There's some excellent displays on sugar, tobacco, coconuts and textiles. I learned a lot from visiting.

Good museum to go to for a side trip. We went here while roaming around Plaza Libertad. A portion of the museum about early trades are mostly printed text, adding more collections would be a nice improvement. Also some parts have leaks

The Museum of Philippine Economic History is a strong addition to Iloilo’s cultural and heritage attractions. It offers a rich, informative experience that connects architecture, local history, and economic development in an accessible, free setting. It’s particularly valuable for those interested in history, economics, heritage, or industrial development, though visitors should allow enough time, go during cooler hours, and be prepared for quite a bit of reading.

Nelly Garden Mansion, an exquisite Beaux-Arts masterpiece constructed in 1928 for the esteemed statesman Don Vicente Lopez, is a must-visit destination. Nestled on four hectares of lush land originally purchased from national heroine Patrocinio Gamboa, this stunning estate reflects both Classical Corinthian and Art Deco architectural styles. The mansion boasts two stories made of reinforced concrete and features interiors adorned with fine Philippine hardwood.
The minimum to go in is 5 people, which is 1000 php. It is definitely worth the amount and the visit. It is a guided tour into the Lopez family history. Bernie, our tour guide, took us through the mansion that has photos, memorabilia, antiques, and personal items, including dresses out for display. The mansion is really well preserved and tells the story so well. I wish the other heritage houses in Iloilo would follow this example. I am so grateful I was able to come back to see it. I highly recommend this stop. Note: You are not allowed to take pictures inside, so be present and keep your eyes open to cherish this experience.

Nelly garden is a famous events place in Iloilo. Such an amazing view both during daytime and nighttime. The setup itself is beautiful. However, one thing to consider is the weather. Since this is outdoor, you need to consider the rain and the wet/muddy soil for those wearing gowns and heels. The food is also so-so. But this is a fantastic venue that your photographers would love.
Renz L — Google review
We visited Nelly's Garden way back in 2019 and the entrance was only 150 pesos at that time and price hike afterwards especially after the pandemic! The white mansion was off limits to the public so we just roamed around it up to the backyard. Visitors may stroll around the gardens and that vast lawn which is so wide for a soccer game or like a mini-golf course.

The place feels haunted, it probably is. I did not take photos of the interior of the house because it was not allowed but more so because it felt so eerie. A tour for 5 people costs P1000. Traditional Filipino architecture from the times of old.

pretty awesome for a 1928 structure... the rooms are quite big too... the staying house we got has a homey feel... fantastic the shower has hot option... four rooms and four toilet and bathroom... we also got to do a tour of the mansion itself... the furnitures and what's inside is so old but still functional, well not all... believe it or not they let the mansion to be used as a wedding venue...
Biosong T — Google review
This is one of the well-maintained opulent mansions in Iloilo City. It is grandiose, with huge lawns and parking spaces. The design of the house is beaux arts, which is a popular architecture design at that time when it was built in the late 1920s. Inside the house you can see the large living, dining, as well as the bedrooms, built with hardwood. There are also expensive furniture and fixtures. In effect, the mansion is a kind of a lifestyle house, where visitors can see how the rich family owners (the Lopez family) lived during their time. Photos of famous historical figures and personages adorned the big living room. However, the tour guide prohibits visitors from taking pictures or photos inside the mansion. Also, visitors need to have prior appointment, because a visit is by reservation using telephone. Even then, the Nelly Garden is a must-see for visitors in Iloilo City.

Built in 1928 and was commissioned by the philanthropist and statesman. Don Vicente Lopez y Villanueva together with his wife, Doña Elena Hofilena y Javelona. Before they built Nelly Garden, the couple lived near the Cathedral, but in constant noise prompted Doña Elena ask her husband to quitter location where she could also indulge in her passion for flowers and gardening. A four-hectares of land purchased for 1 peso per square meter from national heroine Patrocinio Gamboa, who was also a very close friend of Doña Elena Engineer Don Mariano Salas motif of the architecture is Classical Cirinthian, but already with touches of Art Deco. The edifice is constructed of reinforced concrete all throughout the two storeys with interiors of line Philippine hardwood. It was named after their eldest daughter Nelly and up to the present. Unfortunately taking photos inside is strictly prohibited, unless you have a paid event there (for example the wedding). The entrance costed 1000 PHP for 3 persons.

Plaza Libertad in Iloilo City is a historical site that reflects the Spanish colonial period and Western influences. After Spain relinquished Iloilo, it became the site where the first Philippine Republic raised its flag. Surrounded by landmarks such as San Jose Church, Iloilo City Hall, and the Masonic Temple, it offers a pleasant environment for walking, picnicking, and relaxation.
We visited the park around 4 to 5 PM, and it turned out to be an excellent choice for unwinding after a full day exploring Iloilo City and Guimaras. The atmosphere was calm and quiet—perfect for decompressing. One of the highlights was the abundance of picturesque signages throughout the park, which made for great photo opportunities. While the park doesn’t offer much in terms of interactive activities, its serene ambiance and visually appealing elements make it a worthwhile stop for those looking to slow down and take in some peaceful scenery.

Iloilo City is indeed known for its beautiful and well-maintained plazas, which serve as vibrant community spaces and hubs for local events. Having such public spaces can greatly enhance the quality of life for residents and create a stronger sense of community. Manila, being a bustling metropolis, could definitely benefit from more green spaces and public plazas. Perhaps, with urban planning and development efforts, Manila can also have its own share of beautiful plazas that promote community engagement and a better quality of life for its residents.
Teena C — Google review
This is a nice plaza named after the liberation struggle. So it's no surprise that the centrepiece of the plaza is a statue of Rizal. There's several Neoclassical statues of either Pan or satyrs and also a nice model of a locomotive. It's a nice plaza for a stroll, but I wish the grass was better kept. Notable buildings include Iloilo City Hall and San Jose Placer Parish Church.

Date of visit: May 29, 2025 It was already the tail-end of the dry season so there was a light rainshower the time I got there at Plaza Libertad. Some portions of the plaza was under renovation. I like it when a park has lots of trees and much greenery. Landscaped gardens are well-maintained and I really stopped by to smell the blossoming sampaguita bushes and even the calachuchi trees. The plaza has lots of points of interests: the Rizal monument and also the symbolic struggle for freedom and human rights represented by a sculpture of clenched fists. A steam locomotive is also on exhibit at the park. The plaza is well-planned and surrounded by the City Hall, the San Jose Placer Church and adjacent to the downtown area. Very convenient location and commuter-friendly as well. I wish to go there again on my next Iloilo vacation.

The National Museum Western Visayas Regional Museum, located in Iloilo, was once a provincial jail but has been transformed into a top-notch cultural institution. The museum underwent extensive renovations, including enclosing the courtyard with a glass dome and adding a rooftop walking space. Visitors can explore the rich history and culture of the region through well-organized exhibits featuring well-preserved artifacts and informative displays. While entrance is free, there are opportunities to rent out the second floor for events.

I'm very happy to have visited this National Museum (Western Visayas) and even happier that it is open 7 days a week for free. I hope more Ilonggos come to visit and more Filipinos take time to visit as well when they are in the city of love. They have converted the old Iloilo prison as venue for the museum. It is well curated and divided into different sections showing the geology, history, artistry of Panay Island and many more. It's well curated and they have collected many artifacts for display. They have an area for kids where they can play matching games with pictures of birds found in Panay or do some coloring. There's also a lounge/library/study area. The 2nd floor is currently being worked on for more displays. ACU works well. The security staff are well mannered, polite and friendly. I am looking forward to more items added into the museum. Make sure to visit when youre in Iloilo City.

The National Museum Western Visayas offers an engaging look into the region’s rich history and culture, thoughtfully organized into separate galleries for a clear and focused visitor experience. Housed in a unique location — a former prison — it retains its original steel and iron doors, adding a tangible sense of history to the visit. Each gallery highlights different themes, from archaeology and ethnography to contemporary heritage. While the current exhibits are well-curated, adding more displays about wartime and the occupied Western Visayas period would further enrich the narrative. Overall, it’s a fascinating stop for anyone exploring the area’s heritage.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stunning Museum with FREE Admission! The National Museum of the Philippines - Iloilo is absolutely incredible and completely FREE! Housed in the beautifully restored former Iloilo Provincial Jail from 1911, this Important Cultural Property showcases exceptional architecture and historical significance (Guide to the Philippines) . The transformation of this old prison into a world-class museum is remarkable. The exhibits are outstanding and well-curated. The "Habol Panay" gallery features the stunning textile heritage of Panay and Negros Islands, including hablon weaving, piña-seda weaving, silk production, and traditional embroidery (Guide to the Philippines) . The Geology and Paleontology Hall lets you rediscover geological events that formed Western Visayas and showcases fossil molars of elephants and stegodonts found in Cabatuan (Iloilo Art Life) . Don't miss the famous Oton Gold Death Mask, a National Cultural Treasure that finally returned home after half a century (Iloilo Art Life) ! The building itself is stunning with its modernist design, glass-domed courtyard, and rooftop walking space. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Being open 7 days a week makes it easily accessible for everyone. Located within the beautiful Provincial Capitol Complex, it's a perfect cultural stop. This is a must-visit for anyone in Iloilo!

San Jose Church, situated at Plaza Libertad in Iloilo City, is a devout place of worship dedicated to Sto. Nino. The church holds a replica of Santo Nino de Cebu, the patron saint of the Dinagyang Festival and is considered the city's first-ever church. Displaying a Renaissance architectural style with Corinthian columns and Gothic influences, this magnificent structure captivates visitors with its beauty.
Beautiful historic church next to Plaza Libertad in the City Proper. The parish’s origins date all the way back to the 1600’s! There is a statue dedicated to the Black Nazarene on the right hand side when entering the church. The ceiling is composed of white painted wood giving off a rustic atmosphere. Masses are offered in English and Ilongo.

The Arevalo Sinamay House is owned by Mrs. Cecilia Gison Villanueva. This home industry established by her great grandfather still operates today. Located at Osmeña St. Arevalo, Iloilo City, where jusi (banana fiber) and piña (pieapple fiber) cloths are loom-woven. Tourists can go visit Sinamay Dealer in Osmeña St., Arevalo, to buy their sought after handmade textiles. However when we visited it seems it was closed.

Quality handwoven pina shawls, and hablon barong. Also colorful embroidered dusters and caftans. The caftan sizes are on the large side though. Mother's yummy cookies are available too. Appreciate that the sales staff still wear their Leni-Kiko T shirts. Let's support KakamPINK businesses like Sinamay House.

The Casa Real de Iloilo was the seat of the provincial government of Iloilo. Now it's a quasi government office that still house some administration. The public are allowed to visit the ground floor, but not upstairs to the 1st floor (2nd floor in local vernacular). The building is a nice example Filipino Bahay Na Bato style and has a photogenic Romanesque style colonnade at the front. A lovely landmark building.

The architecture is so exquisite. It is reay a site to see near the city proper. This pkace is near to Mudeo de Iloilo and public offices. It's not that far and you can just take a jeep to go here. You'll enjoy the view of the house and the garden near it.

Park
Jaro Plaza, also known as Graciano Lopez Jaena Park, is a bustling square located in Jaro, one of the six districts of Iloilo City in the Philippines. It sits outside the historic Jaro Cathedral and is famous for hosting a regular plant market. As the seat of the Archdiocese of Jaro, it holds great religious significance and is home to the revered Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria.
From being a neglected public area for a long time to transformation into a lovely, vibrant park! Great efforts were done by city LGU to rehabilitate the Jaro Plaza: trees to provide oxygen, beauty, and shade; well-landscaped lawns, benches, a pavilion, and clean-up of monuments dedicated to the heroes these represent. And the centerpiece of the plaza, the iconic Jaro Belfry, looks so stunning. The first time I came to this plaza in 2019, the Belfry then was so neglected and notorious for stench because of some unruly people who turned its base into their urinal. It was during pandemic that the rehabilitation of the plaza took place and great efforts were done to restore the Belfry to its former glory.

A well-designed public space perfect for walking, jogging, or simply enjoying the day. Locals and tourists alike will appreciate how the city has preserved nature while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

Me and my partner visited Jaro Plaza during our trip to Iloilo and we really loved the experience. The plaza has a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, surrounded by heritage sites like the beautiful Jaro Cathedral. It’s a nice place to take a walk, enjoy the fresh air, and observe the local lifestyle. We also liked that there are food stalls and shops nearby, which made our visit more enjoyable. A charming spot to experience both history and culture in Iloilo.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautifully Restored Historic Plaza - A Must-Visit! Jaro Plaza (officially Graciano Lopez Jaena Park) is absolutely stunning after its recent beautification and restoration! This historic plaza was completed in 1927 and was considered "the most beautiful plaza on the island of Panay" in the 1930s (Wikipedia) . Now after a comprehensive P90 million restoration project (Wikipedia) , it has reclaimed that title! The plaza is beautifully landscaped with flat pavements, comfortable benches, and shade from giant tree canopies. Small speakers play relaxing classical music like Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky throughout the plaza (Art World Database) , creating a peaceful atmosphere. The restored 29-meter free-standing Jaro Belfry (Wikipedia) is magnificent, along with the monument to Ilonggo veterans from World War II and the well-preserved bandstand (Wikipedia) . The location is perfect - directly across from the majestic Jaro Cathedral and surrounded by beautiful old Spanish mansions and the Archbishop's Palace. It's clean, well-lit at night, and perfect for jogging, relaxing, taking photos, or simply people-watching. The area is safe for families, and there are nearby cafes and restaurants. This is more than just a plaza - it's a living piece of history where faith, culture, and community come together. Highly recommend visiting, especially during the evening when everything is beautifully lit!

Jaro Plaza is a place where everyone loves to take rest and do variety of activities, recent renovation of the Plaza was a dancing light fountain and they also added a rotating ballerina sculpture which made me happy that this plaza reach its peak level, and to my respect to the architect and workers who made this possible, thank you. Jaro Plaza may be one of the best public spaces I've ever been for now, Rise Iloilo!

Agatona 1927 Museum Cafe is situated at the historic Agatona Escarilla Arguelles y Ruperto Lopez Jalandoni Mansion, located in Jaro, Iloilo City. The mansion was transformed into a museum cafe and opened to the public on April 13, 2024. It offers group tours by prior arrangement and showcases an interesting ancestral house with a rich history that adds character to the experience.
Agatona 1927 Museum Café is one of the newest gems to visit in Iloilo City, conveniently located near Jaro Cathedral and plaza. Whether you’re a first-timer joining a guided tour or prefer to explore on your own, the museum offers a rich glimpse into the heritage and stories of the past within a beautifully preserved ancestral home. What makes the experience even more special is their café, where you can enjoy local delicacies like suman and a comforting cup of hot chocolate. It’s the perfect spot to relax and take in the history around you—truly a blend of culture, nostalgia, and Ilonggo warmth.

Very nice experience! The staff were very accommodating, and the food was delicious. I also appreciated how well they preserved the antiques and items on display—it really gives you a sense of history. From the terrace, you can easily imagine what life was like before, especially with the view of the beautiful Jaro Cathedral. We visited on a Tuesday morning when there were only a few people, so it felt calm and relaxed. I especially loved their ibos, molo soup, and the iced Spanish latte—highly recommended!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful heritage cafe with amazing food and views! What a gem in Iloilo! Agatona 1927 Museum Cafe is housed in a stunning old heritage home from 1927, and dining here feels like stepping back in time. The place is beautifully preserved with original architectural details, vintage furniture, and family photos on the walls that tell the story of the house. The food was really good! We had the creamy mushroom pasta and wonton soup - both were delicious and well-presented. The portions were decent and the flavors were on point. Everything felt elevated yet comforting at the same time. What I loved most was the combination of everything - the historical ambiance, the view of Jaro Cathedral right across the plaza from the balcony (perfect photo spot!), and just the overall vibe of the place. You're literally eating in a piece of Iloilo history. The staff were very friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food and the unique setting you're getting. It's not your everyday cafe experience. If I lived in Iloilo, I would definitely be a regular here. It's perfect for special occasions, dates, or just when you want a nice meal in a beautiful setting. The mix of good food, history, and ambiance is hard to beat. Highly recommend visiting when you're in the Jaro area!

It was a pleasant surprise to our trip. The cup of chocolate is to die for! It was soooo good. The best we ever had. The museum was fascinating. It was awesome to see Papal Bulls and even their own altar where they used to do TLM. What’s more, they have 3 popes grant their family their own plenary indulgence. As Catholics, the personal collection they have would get you saying “sana all!”. We arrived without reservations and we were seated by the balcony which was honestly the best view in the house. Felt like a Doña for a day! Also, it is sufficient to opt for the self guided tour. 350 for that, 200 of it consumable. Sulit! It still would be best to call in advance, it does get packed.

A well preserved photos, personal things, furniture and documents inside the mansion near Jaro Cathedral. The heiress and family did well in opening the mansion in public as a museum. I was greeted and welcomed by the tour guide/staff when I arrived, it is recommended to call and set an appointment in advance since visitors is at its peak during weekends. The visit comes with a complimentary drink and cookie of their own, but also serving wide variety of food at the 2nd level.

🌸 Agatona 1927 Museum — A Heartfelt Heritage Stop in Jaro We joined the guided tour, and Francis Ann was extra warm and engaging. She left us with a beautiful thought that stayed with me: “What’s yours will always go back to you.” We also had the chance to meet the owners, who were personally overseeing the setup of the Christmas décor — gracious, warm, and genuinely happy to share stories about preserving their family’s heritage. After the tour, we had lunch at their café — the lengua and Molo soup were both delicious! A truly worthwhile visit and experience. 💛 It’s wonderful to see how Agatona 1927 generously shares the rich heritage of their family and community.

Cinematheque Centre Iloilo is a must-visit for film enthusiasts and those interested in local culture. It offers high-quality independent film screenings at affordable prices, making it a popular choice over commercialized malls. The venue supports filmmakers by providing a platform to showcase their work. With its well-appointed staff and bike-friendly location, Cinematheque Centre Iloilo is the perfect place to immerse yourself in arts, culture, language, and music.
Watch different selections of movie screening for the month. Check out their facebook page for schedules.
Alissa S — Google review
Based on my experience watching during the Japanese Film Week, If you're going to watch a free movie I suggest you come here early as possible because the best theater room which is the room on the left from when you enter is usually full because that room has complete theater seats and the seats are elevated at the back and gradually lowers each step down you take going towards the front and the screen is wide like what you would see in a cinema, the room on the right on the other hand is mediocre, the room is cold with white plastic chairs, but the problem I have with it is that the projector screen is small and that it cuts the aspect ratio of the film you're watching, downscaling it and the projector screen isn't even that clean, I noticed when I was watching the move "Fireworks" there were dirt marks on the top of the projector screen which somewhat bothers me whenever the film gets into a bright setting. Overall, a pretty great experience, just be mindful of getting there in time.

Arts, culture, language, music. If you care for any of the above, the Cinematheque is the place to be. Staff is well appointed, place is well designed; even the location warrants praise. Finally, and most importantly, they're bike friendly. See you at the Theque!

GRACIANO LOPEZ JAENA PARK is a well-lit and clean park with plenty of steel chairs for visitors to relax and enjoy meals with their loved ones. It has undergone significant renovations over the past 35 years, transforming from a dark and ordinary space into a remarkably beautiful area reminiscent of European plazas. Local vendors offer delicious delicacies nearby, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
I'm not sure of the distinction but Jaro Plaza and Graciano Lopez-Jaena Park share the vast stretch of rectangular lot in front of the Jaro Cathedral. My first time to visit the place was in 2019 and the park looked neglected and the statue of Mama Mary and Baby Jesus were enclosed in what seemed to be an aviary. The Marian grotto and the statue and pedestal of the Ilonggo patriot to whom the park is named were the ones spared from vandalism while the rest of the monuments for heroes were desecrated by people who were ignorant of history. Then came December 2022 and that was also our Iloilo vacation and we were again at Jaro and what an amazing, beautiful transformation that the Iloilo City LGU did to this once neglected place!

Villa Beach is a popular spot in Iloilo known for hosting the famous Paraw Regatta, the oldest sailing event in the country. It's a great place to witness this exciting event and enjoy the beach vibe. While not ideal for swimming, it offers fantastic photo opportunities and space for running and playing with kids. Visitors can also indulge in delicious meals at renowned restaurants like Tatoy's Manokan and Breakthrough Restaurant, which offer fresh local food and stunning sea views.

Been there a few weeks ago, the place is nice and windy. There are a lot of vendors/restaurants around the beach, there are also karaoke machines. The problem is that there are parts of the beach that are dirty (trash like plastics, bottles, cans, straws, etc.) I even saw a dead kitten still being washed up by the water. I hesitated to dip my feet, and there were a lot of people still swimming near it. I tried getting rid of the dead animal but I don't have the tools and the time to do it. I just told the guard or watcher to please take care of this problem. Overall, the place is good for gatherings like meetings, partying, hanging out, picture taking, and more. I wish they could maintain the cleanliness of the place.
