Open air museum
Hallandsgården, managed by Hallands Konstmuseum, is a charming open-air museum that offers engaging activities for visitors of all ages. This century-old museum showcases historic buildings from around the province of Halland, providing a firsthand experience of life in the olden days. Visitors can explore Horsasstugan, Eldsberga schoolhouse, and stables either independently or with knowledgeable guides.
Great ambiance. The entrance fee is 40 kronor for adults. There are lovely tree houses and huts indigenous to the Swedish culture, and some cafes where you can buy a few snacks. The midsummer festival in Halmstad is often held here.
Essy C — Google review
Can recommend this place. It's definitely worth visiting during the sunny days. The atmosphere brings you back to older society. This open-air museum displays a cultural history of Hallands region. You can visit traditional workshops, farmhouses, and other structures. There is even a coffee place here.

Nice outdoor experience with old Swedish houses from the 17th century. Worth a visit, especially with kids. Free but possible to leave a donation.
Carl — Google review
That is very nice place but it needs something like information with sound or some brochures about its history, I mean not just walking around and taking some photos in there, we need some information about it, but still I like it....it is also very good for exercising....
Selcuk D — Google review
Informative and calm out here. Also we were greeted by one of the locals, very friendly and cuddly.

Swimming pool
If you're looking for a fantastic indoor water adventure, Halmstad Arena Bad is the perfect destination, especially when the weather isn't cooperating. As Sweden's largest waterpark, it boasts an array of thrilling waterslides and an exciting adventure pool featuring cascading rapids and bubbling zones. Families will appreciate the dedicated kids' pool and play area designed for younger visitors, ensuring everyone has a blast.
This place is great. There is an activity pool with slides and a centrifuge pool for the kids. There is also a water play area for small kids. There is a large pool with swimming lanes and a large jacuzzi. There is also a sauna and steam room in the changing room. It is a very clean swimming hall.

Cold water in all swimming pool. Hot tub bubbles only work maybe 2 or 3 minutes.

(Translated by Google) We were two families of 8 people with 4 children aged 8, 10 & 14. It was bright sunshine outside but we wanted to do something fun on the way home from Gothenburg to Malmö. The nice weather meant that there were very few people inside swimming. It was a nice bathhouse, with three slides, a jumping pool, a larger whirlpool, a smaller whirlpool, a fitness pool and a children's pool for teaching. There were three shower stalls so you could wash yourself a little more privately if you wanted. Sauna inside by the showers. Super nice bath attendants/guards. There was a kiosk inside the bathhouse but unfortunately it closed two hours before the actual bath. We had a fantastic afternoon and would recommend everyone a stop if you need to take a break from the children. The two things on the downside were the constant problem that there is a lot of hair on the floor in the shower area and changing room. It feels less nice of course. Likewise, the toilet I visited in the women's section smelled incredibly strongly of urine.

Pippi parken! A must for your kids. A playground for the smallest children. Or just relax and enjoy a outdoors breakfast that you have taken along.
Anders N — Google review
One of the best park in Halmstad. Sections include children's play area, Katt house, a summer restaurant, huge lawn and a water fountain. It calm and peaceful near the Nissan river. The huge lawn area hosts several events throughout the year. Last time it was a children's movie as show. There is a flea shop opens every first Sunday and second Sunday ( need to verify the opening days) near the Katt house, donations for stray kats. I have heard that you can adopt a cat from there too.
ARUN A — Google review
Norre Katts park has been a beloved refuge for the people of Halmstad for nearly 150 years. It all started in the 18th century, when Halmstad no longer needed to be protected by dikes and moats. The fortifications deteriorated and were demolished, and a royal letter ordered the sale. An auction was held in 1737, and the area was sold to councilor Berndt Liedberg for 17 daler 12 öre silver coins. In 1843, the innkeeper AJ Sjögren paid 2,000 riksdaler for "Norre Katt in Halmstad's western fence between the main country road and Nissan" Regarding all of this, the park is close to the city center.
Alexander X — Google review

(Translated by Google) Absolutely the best place in Halmstad in my opinion, Lungy and nice, fresh air as long as the military is not out rolling with their power packs, I myself carried a camera during my military service 😁 I have been here on and off since the 70s, can go here for hours, almost always bringing a light lunch with me which I enjoy by the view. Recommended all year round, some background noise from military activities is included. 😎

Long nice beach with yellow sand and amazing nature. There's a few fields for beach volleyball and football
Anas M — Google review
Fine sand beach with a beautiful view. Perfect beach for family with kids which means it can get really crowded on a warm summer day. There are restaurants close by and public toilets too.
Joy G — Google review
Very nice white sand beach! Great for long walks bathe with some algae in the sea! You will get a foul smell in the morning due to see weed and algae floating to shore. Very well maintained beach 🏖️ with plenty of free parking, toilets and restaurants nearby. Its best on the Sunny days as there isn’t so much wind due to bushes and sand piles on the end of shore. If you have a good company or looking for a solace then this beach is apt! Enjoy

Definitely one of the most beautiful beaches in Sweden. When I am here it really doesn't feel like I am visiting a beach in Sweden. Definitely a most go

Nice beach in Halmstad. The water is very quiet and clean. It is a four-kilometre-long beach. It has been named Sweden’s best beach time and time again. You can even enjoy a walk and find Tjuvahålan and Svärjarehålan. The two bays have a small beach, rocks and a jetty – perfect for a nice walk with friends and family.

Simstadion, also known as the Aquatics Offence, is the largest outdoor pool complex in the city and is situated next to the sea. It features a 50-meter pool with designated lanes for swimming practices, a teaching pool, a toddler pool, and a waterslide. The pools are filled with purified seawater from the ocean itself. Visitors can enjoy free entry and are advised to visit early in the morning during summer for a calm and refreshing experience.
Big full length pool (50m) and 2 large children pools for different age groups, clean and tidy and amazingly it’s completely free to enter. A tip is to come in the early morning (07:00 or when they open) during the summer when it’s calm, beautiful and fresh. Join some of the Halmstad pensioners for a morning swim (many into their 80s and even 90s!) who have had this tradition for decades. During the day it can get a bit busy with families but alwaysThey should clean some areas, but otherwise it was cool, maybe a bit too crowded but it was a very beautiful day so I can’t say anything about that! Nice place for a swim when the sea is still cold. There are 3 pools, in varying depths. There are changing rooms, bathrooms and an ice-cream kiosk. There's even basic but fun waterslide. Although the area around the pool is mostly dull concrete the rest of the area is nice and green with large open lawns.
Ross K — Google review
Generally a nice place for a picnic, however, there are just too many people on the warm days. There should definitely be a entry fee where you can use changing rooms as well since it actually costs to use them right now. I genuinely think that it would be for the better.

Named after the famous artist Pablo Picasso, the park features several of his sculptures scattered throughout its picturesque grounds. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through this lovely park opposite Halmstad castle and take in the artistic ambiance.
Nice place to stop by after a long walk, there are benches that you can have some rest with a beautiful view.

Nice, open place to enjoy the sun. Best thing is you can enjoy the sun and the wind from the river. So you not gonna feel so hot. It is located in the centre of the city. So almost once a week go there and enjoy after finishing shopping, eating, medical etc. There are loads of flowers and trees. Different kinds of sitting arrangements. There are arrangements for kayak as well. I'm not sure where.

Mjellby Art Museum, established in 1980, is dedicated to showcasing changing exhibitions of works by the Halmstad Group, a collective of six local artists who sought to push the boundaries of surrealism in the 1930s. The museum offers temporary art exhibitions on special themes and occasions, along with a standing exhibition on the 'Halmstad Group'. Visitors can also explore a small art shop and enjoy refreshments at a cozy cafe.
Amazing collection of surrealist artists paintings from Sweden. Worth visiting the short movie exhibition as well

Excellent temporary exhibition with Rodney Smith. The permanent part with art from Halmstadgruppen is not to my personal liking but provides a backdrop and a reason for showing other surrealistic related artists which is great.

I like it also because the standing exhibition on the 'Halmstad Group' is not only an idea but presented a standing exposition. The staff are very kind and knowledgeable about the history of the paintings and the founders. They take you on a journey through time while you enjoy telling stories about the paintings and the characters. They also have a drawing section that gives you the opportunity to draw, showcase your skills, and relive your memories and talents. Sights & Landmarks
Halmstads Slott, also known as Halmstad Castle, was built in 1615 under the orders of King Christian and has undergone several restorations while still maintaining its original renaissance architecture. It stands as a significant piece of regional history and serves as the residence of the governor of Halland County. The castle offers guided tours twice a year, allowing visitors to explore its rich history and beautiful architecture.
Very nice place from outside, I had no chance to visit inside yet.
Mozhdeh — Google review
Must see. Even though it was close, you could get at the square inside of the castel and scrutinise the castels exterior. It is a beautiful place to take a break and enjoy the environment of the 16th century. Be aware that it is closed on Mondays, but you still can get to square and enjoy the exterior of the castle.
Eldar — Google review
Hardly a 'castle' in the real sense but a beautiful reminder of local defences just a couple of centuries ago. 1890 if my memory serves me well. We (Lucy and I) simply drove in under cover of darkness to 'storm' the atrium. Top marks for historians and daring photographers! Try Varberg too - my favourite Swedish fortress <3
Ian M — Google review
Date of visit: 29th August 2025 I visited Halmstad Slott on a Friday at 4 pm. We didn’t go inside the castle as it is not open for public, just admired the castle’s exterior and spent time in the charming square courtyard. The area by the Nissan River was peaceful and beautifully tranquil. An old-style ship was moored nearby, which added a lovely touch and made for some great photos. A note for future visitors: the interior is generally not open to the public, except for select guided tours on certain occasions.

Great army museum

(Translated by Google) Saved a lot of military stuff that is probably appreciated by some. Had a guided tour which included an exhibition about the preparedness period in Halland. And about a wedding dress made from American parachute fabric......

(Translated by Google) Quite small but good enough! Very interesting objects that all carry their own history. Fun and interesting for both adults and children. Well worth a visit!

(Translated by Google) You can go here if you want to see a museum about the regiment, the statue is 91:Karlsson, yes everyone has probably read about him and heard about him. This takes you back in time (Original) Hit kan man åka om man vill se museum om regementet statyn är 91:Karlsson ja alla har nog läst om honom och hört om honom . Detta tar er tillbaka i tiden

(Translated by Google) Very nice museum. However, paint 91 Karlsson so he lights up. Put him down in town so Halmstad residents and tourists find out that he has a museum in town and belongs to Halmstad. More marketing simply. (Original) Mycket trevligt museum.

(Translated by Google) Did the rag on I 16 so you know the garrison museum.

(Translated by Google) A very interesting museum. Go there and have a look. (Original) Ett mycket intressant museum. Åk dit och titta.
Inger S — Google review
(Translated by Google) Excellent, unfortunately the 91st part was closed. (Original) Utmärkt, tyvärr var 91:an delen stängd.

Very big fun place for kids. I always use it as break on a way down the coast to let daughter run and get tired, quite good food, but was very long wait time after ordering the meal, almost an hour and there was not that many people. Food selling and preparation could be more efficient, therefore only 3 stars.
