Ventfort Hall Gilded Age Mansion & Museum is a restored Jacobean revival mansion built in 1893, originally owned by Sarah Morgan, sister of financier J P Morgan. Saved from demolition, it now serves as a museum showcasing the opulence of the Gilded Age. Located in Lenox, Massachusetts, it offers tours and events, providing a glimpse into the extravagant lifestyle of that era. The mansion also hosts programs, performances, and special exhibits for visitors to enjoy.
Excellent tour of two hours. Such a grand mansion worth every penny of admission. Our guide had so much information I feel I could have spent hours more. Amazing this mansion was so close to being torn down and survives. Still needs so much work or the renovation that’s been done will be destroyed. I’ve seen the summer cottages in Newport but I feel this one allows closer access. I would love to see it if they can complete the renovation.

I love going to these gilded age mansions. This one is still undergoing renovations, but it's beautiful nonetheless. It's about an hour on your own if you really take the time to listen to the tour and enjoy the artifacts.
Marcus M — Google review
We were on a short driving trip around the Berkshires and used Lenox as our base. Everyday we went out sightseeing and dining. We had a list of the gilded age mansions to go visit and Ventfort was on top of our list. The home was built by JPMorgan’s sister in 1893. There is plenty of parking out front and the views are very nice. The entrance fee is $20 and a discount for seniors. Inside is dark wood everywhere it nicely restored and maintained. A great example of the gilded age mansions built in and around Lenox.
THE E — Google review
This is a brick mansion / castle that was featured in the movie "Cider House Rules". It had fallen into such disrepair that local kids were ice skating in the main hallway due to the roof leaking so badly in the Winter. In the last several years a ton of money has been poured into restoration to the point where they are able to give decent tours. The place has a very interesting backstory, nothing notorious or salacious, unfortunately, but the staff is well versed regarding it's history. It's certainly worth the $18 per person for 90 minutes worth of Gilded Age escapism.
Lance H — Google review
It is amazing the restoration they have done. Fantastic place. Lovely staff. Well worth the admission fee.
Michele L — Google review
One of the most enjoyable experiences in an old mansion ever. stepping back into the late 1800’s, a beautiful piece of contemporary architecture restored (not fully) to a near perfect memorial. Some original ceilings, fireplaces, and furniture still wardrobes this historical home. One piece in particular is the piano in the grand room-the original instrument that dwelled in the Morgan home in the late 1800’s. JP Morgan, that is. The house is open most days from 10am-4pm to tour. Make sure you set aside plenty of time to see all of the wonders inside or choose the opportunity to go on a guided tour with a helpful and knowledgeable staff! I really appreciate great historical sites and museums and this felt like both in one. You can walk the grounds to the previous gardens and also down the long dirt path to the carriage house, where the Morgans stabled fine horses. Just peep outside because the carriage house is still in rough shape and cannot be entered. Pic below. Enjoy!

A beautiful house with original stain glass You can see and learn about the restoration process And it is haunted
Rosie P — Google review
We visited Ventfort Hall an hour after closing at 5pm. I had just planned on taking some photos of the exterior of the mansion. The manager, Chelsea, happened to be outside taking photos of the mansion as well. When she heard that we couldn’t make it back tomorrow to visit, she graciously invited us inside and gave us a tour of the first floor. We were very impressed with the interior design and learned about how the mansion is still in an active state of restoration. I hope to visit again in the future and experience the full tour. Thank you so much for the tour Chelsea! It was the highlight of our day.

Shakespeare & Company, nestled in the Berkshires, is a renowned live theatre company with a rich history dating back to 1978. The company stages an array of Shakespearean plays and works by other classic and contemporary playwrights across its three performance spaces, including outdoor shows during the summer months. Founded by a group of young actors under the guidance of Tina Packer, it has since evolved into a vibrant ensemble of over 150 artists.
Attending the Shakespeare Company's production of The Comedy of Errors was an experience that left me utterly blown away! The actors and actresses delivered performances that were nothing short of hilarious, capturing the essence of Shakespeare's wit with impeccable timing and infectious energy. Each character was brought to life with such charm and comedic flair that the entire theater was in stitches from start to finish. The stage design, reimagined as a vibrant circus, was a stroke of creative genius. The colorful, whimsical sets and costumes perfectly complemented the chaotic and farcical nature of the play, adding an extra layer of visual delight to the performance. The circus theme was not just a backdrop—it was integral to the storytelling, creating a dynamic atmosphere that enhanced the humor and energy of the production. As always, the Shakespeare Company delivered an unforgettable experience. This production of The Comedy of Errors was a masterclass in comedy, creativity, and pure theatrical joy. It’s the kind of performance that stays with you long after the curtain falls. Simply outstanding!

I've been here before and had a great experience watching productions of Shakespeare plays. 2025's Romeo and Juliet is awful. Terrible directing (aiming for humor and doing it badly), terrible overacting, terrible voice work (including a lot of screaming) and bad casting. All under the guise of modernizing the play. Which would be fine if done well but it wasn't. I felt sorry for parents who brought tweens to see the show hoping for their kids to appreciate Shakespeare. Teens who enjoy South Park might enjoy this version. Unfortunately now I'd be reluctant to take a chance on coming back.

Every production I've seen here has been nothing less than amazing. The set for love's labour's lost from 2013 Thy adapted the play or a post world war 2 setting

Multi-faceted talent was on display today during an amazingly versatile production featuring superb physical animation on stage. This phenom more than made up for the limited amount of overwhelming visual or auditory stimuli that were so skillfully trimmed from this sometimes raucous play. Kudos to everyone involved in making this delightful performance the fantastic entertainment I stumbled upon today and quickly turned into the highlight of my weekend!🎭🤩🍀

Just spent an evening at the Arthur S. Waldstein amphitheater at the Shakespeare Theater campus in Lenox. Saw "A Comedy of Errors", which was very entertaining and well performed. This is a smaller outdoor theater with about 200 seats. The chairs are comfortable canvas. The only negative is that as the evening grew dark, the mosquitoes came out, so either wear long pants and sleeves or bring some insect repellent.

The Mount, once the residence of renowned author Edith Wharton, is now a National Historic Landmark and cultural center. The estate offers tours of its gardens and interiors, along with rotating exhibits that provide insight into literature and life in the early 20th century. Additionally, visitors can partake in ghost tours of the property. The grounds also host various cultural events throughout the year.
Fascinating place to learn about an interesting decade in Edith Wharton‘s life. Interesting to hear about the family and a small slice of the Gilded Age history. We had a nice lunch on the outside patio overlooking the gardens. The gardens have been restored and although not my style, two symmetrical for me, it was a fun place to visit.

Beautiful, historical location with great walking trails and gardens. There is a nice bookstore/gift shop and a cafe. The staff on site are very knowledgeable and friendly. We did the self guided tour and that was nice to go at your own pace. There was a great 13 minute video to watch in the stables at the beginning of the tour. There was plenty of material in each room to learn about Edith Wharton and her life there. We heard part of the guided tour and it was so informative and contained lots of details; would recommend that if that is what you like. The grounds were beautiful and there were lots of spectacular views and places to sit and enjoy the surroundings.

This was a beautiful detour. We managed to go during a Bank of America 'On Us' weekends so we were exempt from the fee ($23 for adults, I believe). The grounds are beautiful, with a French gardens and Italian gardens manicured into picturesque perfection. The house is maintained beautifully, the information inside it was clear, and concise, and the rooms maintain a lot of charm. The sculpture garden in of itself is worth the trip, and we recommend the bookshop.
Laura G — Google review
We came on the most beautiful sunny, 75F slightly breezy Saturday. Sublime. It’s free to enter and walk around the grounds. Well behaved dogs on leash are welcomed. We spent about an hour walking around the well-maintained forests and gardens surrounding the house. In addition to the well kept grounds, there’s a variety of sculptures to discover as you wander about. We will definitely come back!
Vicky Z — Google review
We went here years ago and live jazz music on the deck and amazing barbecue was served. The home is beautifully kept with historic relics and interest around every turn. My mother, husband and our young children all enjoyed it, though they’re not fans of hers specifically, they loved it too!
J G — Google review
In the area for a wedding and googled 3 hours In Lenox and The Mount came up. The grounds a free and beautiful to wonder, and had a sculpture garden! I didn’t have time for a tour of the house but I was able to pop in to use the restroom and from what I saw it was stunning. If I had more time I would I have taken the tour.

We were lucky to visit The Mount on a beautiful October day, so that we enjoyed not only the fascinating tour of the house and of Edith Wharton's amazing life, but also could take an al fresco lunch at the Terrace Café with panoramic views and then stroll the extraordinary gardens & grounds. Allow time for the outdoor art and for the bookstore & gift shop.
David B — Google review
We visited The Mount for the first time today. This is the home of Edith Wharton a prolific author and woman way ahead of her time. She was the principal designer of the gardens and home which are truly stunning. We were not able to tour the inside of the home this visit but thoroughly enjoyed the trails, gardens and sculpture exhibit. The outside is impeccably maintained. This is a hidden gem that you do not want to miss.

Nestled in the Berkshire countryside, Mass Audubon's Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary offers a stunning natural landscape to explore. With over 1,000 acres of forests, meadows, and marshes, visitors can embark on nature walks and rugged hikes while keeping an eye out for resident beavers. The sanctuary features 7 miles of nature trails that wind through native Berkshire flora and fauna.
This is an excellent place to come and enjoy some outdoor hiking. They have a number of tails to explore, but I recommend checking out the trail that goes around the pond. There are a few beaver dams to check out up close which is super cool, and gives you a good chance of seeing some aquatic wildlife. The trails are unpaved but are easy enough to navigate. They have a small visitors center and surprisingly nice bathroom facilities for being out in the middle of nowhere. Overall I highly recommend checking this place out to enjoy some of the beautiful nature in this area.

This place is incredible! There is so much nature to explore and so many trails to choose from! Also it has the cleanest public restrooms of all time! I highly recommend a visit and a membership too!

Hiking at the Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary was an amazing experience and exceeded my expectations! We decided to hike here because it was across the road from our hotel (Element Lenox Berkshires) and we have a newborn and were looking for an easy/moderate hike. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a beautiful sign and native pollinator garden leading up to the office. Near the office, you can also find a fern path and hummingbird garden. We started our hike around pike pond (some of it is closed now), before venturing onto the Yukon and Bluebird trails. The scenery was gorgeous and there were lots of boardwalks and well kept paths so we could enjoy looking around and searching for wildlife. We also appreciated the well marked trail signs. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting The Berkshires and looking for an easy/moderate hike!
Stephanie P — Google review
What a cute place to hike. I didn't do the major hike that was offered but instead walked the trails around the beaver damns and throughout the forest. The trails are clearly marked and easy to follow. Park in the parking lot, there are 2, and then check in at the building to pay and to get a map. The staff were super friendly!!
Crystal D — Google review
I love this little hidden gem in the Berkshires! Such a good place to be alone and meditate. Well maintained and the staff were amazing.

There are a number of trails suitable for all levels of hiking. All with great signage and statements about what to see and experience during your walk. I recently hurt my hip and found the accessible trail with the strategically placed benches a perfect recovery walk for me. Check it out.

Fun hike to summit of Mt Lennox. For some adventure take the ledges, but not with youngsters or dogs.

Had the most dreamy winter stroll here on Loop across Pike Pond (Yukon and Bluebird trail) on thanksgiving weekend. We chose to go close to dusk to try our luck with some wildlife sighting. Maybe it was the holiday magic, we spotted a family of deer and even a beaver hard at work! The trees were snow capped with peaks of pine needles on the trail. The lady at the counter of the center was wonderful and guided us through a map and a wildlife print cheat sheet. Will definitely be revisiting soon!

Kennedy Park is a dog-friendly destination with a picnic area and nature trail leading to a scenic overlook of the Berkshire Mountains. It's perfect for walking your dog or enjoying a light hike. The park offers various paths, beautiful views, and well-marked trails. Visitors can spend quality time with family and engage in outdoor activities. Accessible from Lenox village, it's an ideal spot for all seasons and can be reached on foot or by car.
A peaceful winter walk on a mild day. The trail we took was at a gradual incline and made for a refreshing adventure. The drive around the park is also spectacular.

Absolutely gorgeous park, did a trail run here! It’s great for dog walks and a gorgeous picnic spot with this lovely view!!
Julianna M — Google review
We have been to the Lenox area for a vaiety of reasons, but always skipped the hike at Kennedy Park! Finally, on a beautiful 80 degree summer late morning, we were lucky to find the one available parking spot out of the five or six that were made available to the public. The hike begins with a sign board that includes a map and thermometer. We decided to locate the banced rock site and proceeded to hike to the location using the Pondview trail to access the Balanced Rock trail. It was relativeley difficult and narrow in some spots with 40 degree inclines and declines. That being said, it was quite an enjoyable workout. There is apicnic table at the Pondview, but very buggy. Overall, a 90 minute hike turned out to be good one. We will do this again during future visits in Lenox. Wear hiking shoes! Also, some of the trails are missing markers, with a random yellow markrr on the Turkey trail!
Mack V — Google review
Wow this is an amazing park with plenty of scenic trails. The view is particularly stunning. The most difficult marked trails are not so bad if you’re hiking, coming from a first-timer. No entrance fee, definitely recommend. The entrance is a bit hidden but it’s just farther down the street from Church on the Hill. If you get lost, the locals are incredibly friendly and they’ll direct you to the right location!
Lukas S — Google review
Incredible view. Many hiking trials In a serene environment
Dan G — Google review
Kennedy park is an absolute gem in the Berkshires. Easily accessible from downtown Lenox and well maintained, but heavily forested, with incredible views and ruins to explore. The parking lot near town is small, so if you’re driving you may have more luck on reservoir road or the Acadian shop
Sam D — Google review
Beautiful walk in foliage season. Surprisingly very little pine and mostly beech, oak and maple. Use of the trail map is key to anyone not familiar with the area.
Roz J — Google review
Parking area for about ten cars. One picnic table nearby. One bulletin board with minimal information on it besides the usual warning about the risk of Lymne disease. Poorly indicated hiking paths, but yes, the woodlands traversed are gorgeous and peaceful.

Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is a must-visit destination for music enthusiasts. The venue offers a magical blend of classical, jazz, and popular music against the backdrop of nature's sounds. Visitors can enjoy gourmet picnics on the rolling lawn while listening to concerts with grand acoustics. Additionally, Lenox is known for its outdoor spaces and as the host town for the Tanglewood Music Festival.
Wow, such a beautiful place with world-class music and amazing scenery. I love their lawn pass, which allows us to do picnic while listening to the music. Their grass is so well maintained that I walked around with bare feet and my feet were still clean. Definitely coming again!
Hyo P — Google review
Heavenly retreat with superb facilities for outdoor listening pleasure. Lustrous grounds, with areas for picnicking, and a dynamite schedule that features a diversity of musical styles, primarily performed by Boston Symphony Orchestra or Boston Pops. Local famous artists (James Taylor, Yo-Yo Ma), and visiting artists come here during the summer. Food options are OK; best to bring your own food if you plan to picnic.
Samuel R — Google review
The Lawn at Tanglewood is the best place to be! Plan ahead, pack a picnic: Blanket, folding chairs, small table, wireless lamp or candles, ice bucket, food 🥖 🥐 🧀, wine 🍷, and thou. We were here again to see the soulful, heartfelt, best female guitarist and keyboard performer, beautiful Bonnie Raitt, after 4 years when we first saw her after the pandemic. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🎸 🥁 🎹 🎼 🎶 🎙️ 🎼🎶
Cam E — Google review
Loved walking around prior to the concert, plenty of space for blankets and chairs, you can only drink alcohol in your designated seating area. Bug spray would have been smart, we got an Uber from town which saved us the long line of traffic into the parking lot, but staff in parking could not agree on where ride share drop-off was (each stop point had to ask the next stop point). The verdict was "limo drop-off" would be the best thing to say because it drops you near the gates.
Mistie C — Google review
Anyone in area that can make it should really make an effort to try and go and see a concert at Tanglewood Was really an incredible experience for the price ($35). People bring legit tables and outdoor feasts with friends and family to enjoy music Something you need to experience to get Sound no matter how far you were from the stage was crystal clear Would suggest coming a few hours early as there's a lot to see around the venue but also because parking is crazy and so is the seating on the lawn. Good to grab an area and parking spot
Robert B — Google review
Great venue for a concert. And the Lenox locals know how to party in the lawn seats. Charcuterie boards and all kinds of fancy spreads. Amazing! There's also great stands with BBQ, fried foods, quick self serve snacks and ice cream. It's easy to exit with West and East parking and great attendants.
Thom C — Google review
Woah 😳! There was so much to explore! I had a pleasant time exploring the grounds before the show and during intermission. A great 👍 place to view a sunset! Oh, it is a good place to see 🙈 a live show. I like the partial maze in the garden area. You will not see Jack Nicholson yelling "Danny!" while carrying an ax! At least I hope you don't! Redrum! 🤫 Shh! The sundial, Whispering Bench, sculptures , the interesting looking houses and even a few of the trees. I was surprised I was not bothered by any 🐝 insects, especially 🦟 mosquitoes. The Koussevitzky Music 🎶 Shed, not the Author "Two Sheds" Jackson, was a good place to watch a performance. Large screens helped people who were further back 🔙 and on the lawn watch the show. The shed can get warm 🥵 on a hot night. They could use some fans to circulate the air inside. The lighting and acoustics were good. The food at the cafeteria was okay but overpriced. They did run out of items on the menu. Security did not hassle myself or anyone I observed. They will check ✔️ bags before you enter. I had no issues with parking 🅿️. There is plenty of parking 🅿️ available and it is free 🆓. There are a lot of bathrooms and a few porta potties. The bathrooms I used were in good condition. They do sell beer 🍺 here. Wheelchairs ♿ are provided for guests. One lady I chatted with actually had on delivered to her at the cafeteria. I came to see "A Prairie Home Companion" and I enjoyed watching it. I do not remember them swearing 🤬 as much at being overly political. I am going to recommend a visit. I may visit again depending on who is playing. It was a long drive for me.

The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum - Lenox Station Museum, located at 10 Willow Creek Road in Lenox, offers a nostalgic experience for visitors interested in rail travel history. The museum features interactive exhibits with restored equipment and offers guided tours of the old Lenox Station, which has been restored to its 1903 appearance. Visitors can explore a New Haven Railroad caboose, watch model trains in action, and view railroading videos.
Very small and interesting museum ran by volunteers. Nice staff. The $5 “train ride” is really a walking tour by a very knowledgeable narrator. Got to see many old engines and cars from 100 years ago and learn about how things work back then.
Willa Z — Google review
Know that the “scenic views” are limited to what you can see along the tracks in downtown. You ride backward for 15 mins then forward for 15 mins. If you’re lucky you sit in a seat that flips to accommodate this straight trip to the end of the line and back again. Nice view of some water ways and ancient cemetery. This is run by volunteers. There’s a little bit of pre scripted information read over an antiquated PA system but most of the time ya just sit and look out the window waiting to get back to the station. Sheldon Cooper would have been disappointed. (I know I was. ) No facilities on the train so get to the station early to stand in line to use the restroom. There’s a small gift shop/museum inside an old train car at the station. Lots of interesting reads about the history of the city and its industry and why the railway was brought to the area.
Casey C — Google review
We took past the peak no Thu train, which this year was actually at the peak of colors. The views were better than I expected from reading reviews. However you need to sit on the right side of the train when it goes out. We switched sides on the way back and it was less attractive. Yes, there were some delapedated back yards, and tossed away mattresses but not all the time. The train ride is 45 minutes.the staff is friendly and informative if you ask questions, but there was no history lessons. The train was a 1953 commuter train, so not historic or particularly interesting but clean and comfortable. The train was just one car and almost full.
Julie's B — Google review
The drive to Lenox station was about 2 hours which was fine because the sites and scenery was beautiful. Station and train was clean and in excellent condition considering the train was 100 years old. The staff is extremely nice. Very knowledgeable. And the staff is all volunteer. The reason I gave them a 3 star was because it said it was an hour ride. You ride for a half hour, and when you reach the destination, the train then goes in reverse back the same way you came. You are allowed to swap seats and sit on the opposite side for a different view. You pretty much drive by industrial areas, nothing real scenic. But the idea of riding the train is really nice. It gives you an idea of whether you could handle taking a longer train ride. They also handed out snacks and small bottles of water. And on the return ride they then handed out snacks again. No charge for any of these. The experience was nice, train was extremely clean, the staff was friendly and professional. The ride was just too short. If it was longer, it would've been great
Robin P — Google review
Good fun, a smooth ride, and friendly, knowledgeable volunteers. Even on a grey, misty day in late October the Berkshire Scenic has plenty to offer and is worth a trip. We’ve been to many scenic railways and each has its own charm. The Berkshire is no exception. It is a smooth ride with great views of the nearby mountains and surrounding towns. The conductors were very friendly and shared a bit of the story of the railway and the train we were riding. Ask for the optional trip guide. It includes the backstory and a helpful history of many sites along the way.
Kevin D — Google review
Staff were nice, got to see some things and take photos. Only complaint I have is that there were wasps flying around in the storage yard (but luckily nobody was stung). The museum is still a work in progress, and It's a safe assumption that there's a lot of work to do. Good place to go if you want to see an FL9 up close

Parsons Marsh Reserve is a captivating natural haven nestled in Lee, Massachusetts, perfect for those who cherish the great outdoors. This picturesque reserve stands out as one of the few national parks in the region that welcomes dogs, making it an ideal spot for pet owners to explore nature alongside their furry companions. The landscape here is a harmonious blend of forests and wetlands, offering stunning views and diverse ecosystems.
About 0.6 miles in total, all ability ranges, fantastic boardwalk to an observation area in a marsh! Great place to observe birds, thanks Audubon society!

The Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio, situated in Lennox, is a captivating museum that provides a unique insight into the lives and artistic endeavors of George L.K. Morris and Suzy Frelinghuysen. This modernist jewel, built between 1931-1941, showcases art deco architecture and is set on a 46-acre estate.
We got here by chance, I didn't expect anything special from this place, but it turned out that the territory and the house are amazing. They will tell you who lived there and how the house is arranged. A unique place. Every corner and every object in the house reveals the personalities of the owners. I was very impressed
Anastasiya K — Google review
Wonderful example of early 1940s modernist architecture and furnishings -- and the art contained within was impressive!!! The path walk through the woods to the house was lovely. (They have golf cart shuttles available should visitors require.) One could feel and easily imagine what life in that time period was like for the talented couple that called it home. Worth the trip from Alabama ~ we hope to have the opportunity to visit again!
Susan K — Google review
This is a unique and special place. If you are interested in modernist architecture and painting this is a must. The site is also glorious. There is a 10 minute easy walk from parking to the house - would be tough in a heavy rain. The docents are helpful and knowledgeable. It was uncrowded when we visited which was nice. The entire experience was serene.
Aron P — Google review
Great example of modernist architecture and a nice little collection of modern art by Frelinguysen and Morris plus Picasso, Arp, Matisse, Leger and more. Beautiful abstract murals throughout the house. My husband was allowed to play piano there and the acoustic was really good. Recommend.
Yana R — Google review
A must see for every architecture buff out there. A short walk thru the woods over a few streams before the house is revealed (similar to the Fallingwater tour if you have taken it). Be sure to see the informative video and paintings in the Guest House before visiting the Main House.

Simple modern home filled with inviting furnishings and unique art.
Debra W — Google review
Built in 1941, this bespoke house is unique and an excellent example of art deco architecture. It’s another opportunity to step into the past and into the world of a glamorous couple of artists who had the means to build their own bit of chic paradise and collect important works. The tour includes a few rooms of the first floor, with original furnishings and art, and access to the large artist’s studio attached to the house. The artist’s studio occasionally hosts art exhibitions. The docents are extremely knowledgeable and kind. They are very happy to help make your time there very enjoyable and are happy to answer questions. Mobility issues — be aware that the parking lot is a long way from the house, so be ready for a hike through the woods to reach the house itself. Docents with golf carts were available at each end of the road when I was there, so you should be able to get a lift and enjoy a gorgeous ride through the Berkshires forests. The house itself can be enjoyed without the need to climb stairs, and there is a folding chair or two in the foyer if you need to sit. If you don’t see any, do ask a docent. Overall I would say it’s a challenge for those with mobility issues but not impossible. I don’t think this would be ideal for kids unless they are really into art and architecture. There is nowhere to bring a stroller and no public bathroom here, and no concession for snacks or drinks. There is not a kids’ version of the tour and it may ask a lot of their legs and their patience. This would be an ideal place for a date or to visit on your own. The whole experience is tranquil, beautiful, and contemplative. The place is a wonderful combination of art and nature. Tucked away as it is, it has a magical quality. The house has been kept in exactly the same condition as when it was built, so there is no whiff of the outside world once you arrive at the house. Art deco architecture was known for innovative approaches to designing the shape and flow of the rooms, and there is plenty to appreciate here. It’s best to go in fine weather, especially if you plan to hike from the parking lot to the house. Purchase tickets online ahead of time - you will need them to even enter the park, and the docent on hand will ask to see your ticket. The parking lot has a shaded area where visitors can sit and wait for a cart ride. There are no concessions: bring your own water and have sone snacks in the car if you like a nibble. Food isn’t allowed on the tour. I was very grateful I had my water jar with me after the hike to the house. I’ll happily visit again, this time with a better sense of what to bring and what to expect.

Bousquet Mountain Ski Area, the oldest operating ski area in the Berkshires, has been welcoming visitors since 1932. Located just a short drive from downtown Pittsfield, this family-friendly destination offers skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. The mountain features a 750-foot slope with eight lanes for snow tubing and 100% snowmaking coverage. In addition to winter activities, Bousquet Mountain also boasts a water park during the summer months.
Ok, I shopped many different places for snowboarding lessons as a gift for my son for Christmas and overall this seemed to be the best bang for the buck. To say they blew it out of the park is an understatement! Specifically I would like to say the first guy he had (can’t remember his name somebody’s nephew I think, but he left for college) was amazing!! Then there was Lucas I believe who really brought the fun, Eli adored him. Then at the last lesson we had Quinn. Completely amazing!! Quinn taught him so much in such a short period of time, patience beyond and super fun! They were goofing around and having a ball!! We also did a family ski lesson and fell in love with skiing and just Bousquet all around! So much we got season tickets and can’t wait until next year!!! WELL DONE BOUSQUET!!

Absolute best time tubing here!! Can't wait to go this winter! Lanes are fun and fast. Ride back up the hill is key! Fire pits are a nice addition!

Can't wait to go back! I'm not a skier, but I would try here! Went tubing, had a great time! Great for a date day, family day, any day! Large or small groups, Safe, fun, organized, and you can't help but smile. Tubing lanes are separated, so this avoids injuries. Open rain or shine, so get there. Definitely do this 🙌🫶🙌

My family and I haven't been skiing 🎿 in years. We changed that this week by visiting this awesome spot. Club house is beautiful and new. Everything was very clean and employees extremely friendly/helpful. Colby was a true rockstar, my dad had lost his wallet and he notified us of the proper channels. He was very welcoming to us and eventually we found the wallet! Colby was running the blue ski lift and brought with him a can do attitude and his communication was first class. Also, notable was the entire tubing staff from Wednesday and Thursday. We enjoyed both skiing and tubing here. As a result, I highly recommend this place. The mountain has some easy parts along with some very challenging. There is a bunny slope for practice if you haven't been in awhile. They offer lessons, quick eats at the cafeteria, or restaurant/bar. Very reasonably priced for rentals/skiing/tubing. The lady at the front who checks people in for tubing is doing a stellar job too. She's a bills fan, but I won't hold it against her 🤣👌 5 🌟

Best kept secret in the area! Looking for great food, tasty drinks, and and amazing view? Look no further. How is this place not packed every night? The restaurant should have its own google page, I don't think everyone realizes that the restaurant is there- the food and location are both amazing! Tried the penne primavera and the burger- both were great, even the fries were impeccable. Also tried their Dark and Strawberry cocktail- phenomenal. Go now before everyone realizes it's open and amazing during the summer!

Great ski resort. I started coming to Bousquet about 6 or 7 years ago. More recently, they completely renovated the lodge and the new building is a HUGE upgrade. They take good care of it and it creates a nice atmosphere here. The mountain itself is smaller compared to other ski areas in New England, but this is still a great place for a more relaxed skiing/boarding experience. The runs are fun and have a few challenging spots. Unfortunately you end up doing the same runs over and over due to the limited number of trails, especially when there hasn't been much snowfall and some trails are closed off. But Bousquet is still a nice place if you just want to relax and cruise down the trails for a while. Prices are pretty reasonable for a ski resort actually. Weekdays are cheapest and go for around $50 or so for 4 hours, or I think just a few dollars more for 8 hours, so it's usually worth getting an 8 hour pass. Altogether this is a nice place - nothing groundbreaking, but you'll enjoy your visit.

Snow Tubing Review: You will be waiting longer than you will be Tubing! The problem with this tubing hill is that it's lanes are too short and everyone at the top of the hill must wait for everyone at the bottom of the hill to fully exit ALL the lanes at the bottom before being allowed to slide down. There are ~10 Tubing lanes. Once at the bottom of the hill everyone must walk across the other lanes to exit where the magic carpet lift takes them back up the mountain. The one exit path that goes across the tubing lanes is not at the end of the tubing lanes, it's BEFORE the end, so a person going down the hill on their tube will hit you, hence why everyone at the top must wait until everyone has cleared the bottom before being able to slide down. This is the first time I've been Tubing at a ski resort where it's been like this. Add to the fact that smaller children who rode alone were getting stuck because their tube would stop halfway down the track, our day turned into 2 hours of more waiting than tubing. Two of my children simply didn't care for this at all and didn't find it fun. We attempted to leave and get our money back, but were informed there are no refunds. Unfortunately I wouldn't return to go tubing here again, and I wouldn't recommend this tubing hill to anyone else. There is another tubing option 25 minutes away at butternut that we found much more fun.

All positive. I was a little concerned after hearing a few people state Oh Bosquet! Let me tell you the new 2 year old ski lodge is wonderful. The skiing lessons were for 3 people and one instructor. The result was a family aging 59, 23 and 6 receiving 3 instructors for 3 days at NO extra cost. They really wanted to to have a great time and went well beyond to ensure it happened. In fact beside this really quiet resort I mean we were the first people on the slopes when it opens at noon and over 3 days the most people we saw in total was probably 50. Highly recommended if you want a family skiing vacation. *****

October Mountain State Forest is a vast natural playground, home to the famous Appalachian Trail and offering a range of outdoor activities. The forest provides over 17,000 acres of exploration with spacious and well-maintained campsites. Visitors can enjoy clean facilities including flushing toilets and showers while being surrounded by beautiful trails for walking or relaxing in a hammock.
October Mountain is a great place for hiking and getting some mud on the tires of your 4x4! With a series of dams, waterfalls, ponds, streams & trails to explore, it's definitely a full day of outdoor fun. It's hard to find legal trails to explore with an offroad vehicle so this place is a treasure. Perfect mild to moderate trails available to get lost in nature.

Great campground, clean bathrooms, staff were great! I ended up staying in one of the yurts. Definitely located in a great location in the Berkshire of Massachusetts. Would definitely stay there again!!
David M — Google review
My family camped here when we were going to a Tanglewood concert. We did not leave the concert early and it only took us 10 minutes to drive back to the campground. I stayed in a tent while my parents stayed in a camper. They don’t have electric for RVs but the parking spaces are large, bathrooms are clean, and they have a dish washing station and water refill stations that are amazing to use. The trails were beautiful and easy to walk. They had lumber for us there for free. The staff were very friendly. I highly recommend this camp ground. It was kid friendly, there is a small public park (not on the map) just a short distance down the road outside of the campground. Several people had pets there as well. Be aware, they do have a no alcohol rule at this campground.
Moriah K — Google review
2025 Update: Returned for a great week here. This time camped in the lower section. Staff is very nice and helpful. The campground sites are clean and well maintained. However, the bathroom needs some maintenance and a deep steam clean of the tiles-- the floors, the shower walls. The toilets and sinks are cleaned well, however, the scum on the walls, especially in shower area and toilet dividers is gross. A quick 15 minutes scrub here or there with some mold remover or an engagement with a pressure washer would improve the cleanliness. Another negative is staff regularly drive a UTV through the back camping area section of this lower level to access maintenance area in the bathroom. It's actually quite annoying. It would be better if they drove around and on the road to enter. As always, your experience here will depend on your neighbors. It is more of an open area for camping and sound does travel. The hum from the electrical is definitely more evident in the lower section, however, you won't be there much because you'll be out exploring. There is just so much to see and do in this area. If you do plan on just hanging around the campsite all day between the hum and whatever is going on at the maintenance shed.... I think maybe they were milling lumber.... It's a bit much to tolerate. Beautiful short trails to access within the campground. Anything you might need to access can be found a short distance away in the center of town. I have to give it three stars just because of the negatives. I experienced this time. Five stars for its location, offerings in the area and pleasant staff. 2022: Small campground and sadly you will hear the hum from the electrical facility right across from the entrance. Stayed in a yurt that was pretty smelly but after a heavy dose of disinfectant spray, it was much better. The bathrooms, however, were clean-- for a campground. The staff was awesome and knowledgeable about the area and had great suggestions for activities and places to visit. You will have more than 17,000 acres of forest to explore and you won't spend that much time at your campsite. If you can sleep with the hum of power in the background and spend your days away in the forest the noise won't bother you in the least. Great hiking! The Appalachian trail runs right through. There is plenty to do and to explore in nearby towns. Again, another state forest with tons of potential but not enough staff and not enough money budgeted to keep it up the way it should be. Sad.

The Arcadian shop is an incredible spot for all sorts of supplies tools toys and clothing all things outdoors! They have three stuck full of everything for All seasons. The top floor focuses on kayak stand up and other water sports. Including a nice selection of inflatable kayaks. The middle floor has clothing supplies and a really good area full of camping gear. The basement floor is a really nice bike shop including electric bikes. As we walked around the shop recently we were really impressed with the friendly attitude and great outdooring spirit of the staff. Everywhere we went in the store staff members engaged with us talk with us and helped guide our decisions when we needed their advice. They are all accomplished outdoors people. I recommend this place.

Out of this world experience dealing with Jeff at the Arcadian Shop. I'm from Central Mass and they had a tent in stock I was searching for. I wanted to get it in time (less than a week) for a camping trip. I was going to make the long trip out to the store to pick it up just in case something happened in shipping. Jeff called my husband to say he was going to be in our area mid-week, could we come and meet him to save ourselves the trip? I met Jeff this afternoon to pick up the tent. He was super friendly, accommodating and very professional. We will definitely make a trip out soon to check out the rest of the store.

Best Shop in the area - hands down. I love customer service and I love a good mechanic - this has both...Here's what happened....Came to upstate NY for a little RnR and shipped my bike...Yup - Rear Derailleur was smashed - the deraileur hanger was pretty much finished. Didn't know what I'd do but walked in and was immediately met by Jeff (Co-owner) who said "you look like a guy who needs some help" then proceeded to personally walk me downstairs to the bike shop. Rick happens to have lived where I live now and we had a good conversation about MTB. In the process he re-straightens what was a useless hanger and got it back into working order. Later he tells me of a group ride that leaves from the area on Tuesday Nights for a "Fast Gravel Ride". I show up and meet Keith (another Co-owner) and we go for almost 2 hours through singletrack, gravel, pavement, etc...With a great group of guys. Keith tells me the whole crew (Owners) are from the area and you can really tell. It takes a lot to run a shop like that and its solid. Highly Recommend!
