The Albany Institute of History & Art is a prestigious museum that showcases the local culture and history through various exhibits. It is home to renowned collections like Wyeth's family BOA art collection, Hudson river school paintings, 19th century American Sculpture, ancient Egypt artifacts and colonial Albany displays. The museum also features remarkable posters from the train travel era in 1920s-1930s.
this place was such an unexpected gem. Do not skip it. If you’re in the area or if you live in the area and you haven’t been grab a friend take your kids and go. It was such a wonderful place. They have an exhibition currently going on I want to say through April 12 I could be wrong but it’s on the current events and social justice warriors, environmentalist, many others, educators, civil servants… and has little bio pics and I absolutely adore that exhibit. There were several other exhibits that were amazing. I honestly can’t say enough. The work of these artists, the details! It’s amazing…. The gift shop looked amazing too. Wow.
Sarah B — Google review
The staff were really nice. They had a great set of exhibits but there some typos in the descriptions. The art was beautiful. We were so pleased that we got to see an Egyptian exhibit here in Albany!
Rachel C — Google review
Surprising! Went for a class trip. I don't know why Albany doesn't publicize gems like this. Well curated collection. One of the oldest museums in the country. Wonderful programming for class trip.
Debra M — Google review
Beautiful building with interesting history and wonderful exhibitions. I was there for the Curran exhibit-On the Road to Cragsmoor but walked through a few others. Lots to see! And they have mummies! I did not get to see those this visit but I will go back. The story of how the mummies were acquired is very interesting on its own.
April M — Google review
This was an amazing museum. The workers that work here are very polite and professional, and very well informed about the museum. The different displays of modern and traditional art were great because it produced a diversity of artistic expressions. There was a good mixture of sculpture and painted art. My favorite part is that it displays, the history of upstate New York, which I find to be fascinating. I shall be making a video on YouTube about this. It is definitely well worth the visit.
Jim M — Google review
Recently visited this well curated museum. Current Charles Courtney Curren exhibit is highly recommended as is the enormous gallery filled with Hudson River School paintings.
Mitchell M — Google review
The Albany Institute of History and Art is among the ten oldest museums in the United States. Established in 1791, it is also the oldest museum in the state if New York. I really enjoyed my stroll through the museum. The employees and guides were a delight to interact with. This museum houses more than 25,000 objects and one million documents spanning art, archaeology, and regional history. The vast collection of historic artifacts from Dutch settlers is very impressive. You will also find art and relics from as far as Egypt among the collections. Plan on spending the better part of the day here. There is much to see and experience. At a current cost (June 2025) of $12 admission for adults, it is a great deal.
Fred A — Google review
Took 4 kids (ages 4-8) here over the summer. We were there for about 1 1/2 Hrs and the kids had a good time. We did a scavenger hunt for some items in the museum, I read a bunch of the descriptions to them and answered any questions they had. The staff was very nice, professional and helpful. It's like to go back with my husband so we can explore a little more though 😉

Nestled at the southern end of Albany's Empire State Plaza, the New York State Museum stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of New York's natural and cultural history. Established in 1836, it proudly holds the title of being the oldest and largest state museum in America. Visitors can explore over 100,000 square feet dedicated to diverse exhibitions that delve into topics ranging from Native American heritage to Adirondack wilderness and even artifacts from 9/11.
I love the carousel ride on the 4th floor. Open from 11am to 4pm, except Mondays (closed). The ride is available every half hour, so arrive a few minutes early. It is worth the wait.... loved it. The 9/11 remembrance section is very poignant and brings back memories from that time.

Parking was free on weekend. Spent about 1.5 hours in the museum - could have spent more time. Admission was free. Interesting exhibits.

Absolutely love it here. Ive been going since a little kid with my dad and I love going it makes me feel like a piece of my father is still around ❤

Excellent museum for free admission. The history of NYC exhibit alone was massive and somewhat interactive but the layout and flow leaves a little to be desired.

4JAN.2025 First time here and had a wonderful time. Huge museum tracing New York States cultural and natural history. Super family friendly and so many great exhibits. Full scale Penn station 🚉 exhibit and beautiful tribute to 9/11. Excellent Harlem exhibit. So much to see and educate yourself on. Wonderful Native American exhibit on food, survival, and way of life.
Spiral T — Google review
A visit to the NY State Museum instills a sense of awe and respect for history and diversity of NY. Kid-friendly and free, this museum has something for everyone. Highlights include exhibits on indigenous people, migrants arriving at Ellis Island, African Americans and Harlem, and the tragedy of 9/11. The museum can benefit from updates and more interactive features. Don’t forget to ride the classic carousel on the 4th floor and rekindle your inner child.
Augusto P — Google review
Free admission and finest geological and paleological exhibits outside of NYC. An especially peaceful gem to visit during weekdays once school starts xo. As a professional writer for Rock & Gem Magazine, I have found the museum and its staff to be kind, helpful resources always

The New York State Capitol is a stunning historical landmark with a renaissance-revival design that serves as the seat of government for the state. The building boasts intricate architectural details both inside and out, including features reminiscent of a French chateau. Free tours are available on weekdays, providing visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the beauty and grandeur of this majestic structure.
Paid street parking is available. If you park on State Street, it is easy to get to the State Capitol building and to the I Love NY letters The building is an absolute masterpiece of late 19th-century architecture, with a stunning blend of Romanesque and Renaissance styles. It's truly a sight to behold, both inside and out. The intricate stone carvings and the grand staircases are particularly impressive—the "Million Dollar Staircase" is wonderful and feels like something out of a fantasy novel.
Asiri B — Google review
Must see. The three massive, intricately carved interior stone staircases alone are worth the free admission and your time, now with restored skylights admitting gorgeous natural light. Don’t miss the Hall of New York paintings gallery or resplendent assembly chamber with its stained glass windows and carved coffered ceiling.
Rebecca T — Google review
The New York State Capitol building is truly breathtaking. Its intricate and unique architecture stands out with incredible detail and craftsmanship. The massive stone structure is both historic and majestic, making it one of the most impressive landmarks in Albany. Whether you’re into architecture or just sightseeing, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
Tara — Google review
Absolutely incredible. We have been to almost every capitol building in the US and this one is my favorite! Wish we could have done the tour. Simply stunning architecture and so much variety. Great exhibits inside. Street parking was relatively inexpensive.
Melissa M — Google review
Of all the 35 or so state capitols I have seen, this is probably the best. The scale and architecture of the place is amazing. Came on a Saturday during a pass through of the area, so didn't get to see the inside, which I am sure is fabulous. I am sure parking on a weekday not fun. I will definitely be back to tour the inside.
Jimmer W — Google review
This Capitol is amazingly beautiful. If you happen to be in the area it is 100% worth the visit. They offer free tours, and Amy did a great job today.
Dawnie — Google review
The New York State Capitol is one of the most stunning buildings in Albany — a masterpiece of stonework and history. The Million Dollar Staircase inside is breathtaking, with intricate carvings, portraits, and details that show off incredible craftsmanship. Every corner feels like a piece of art. Whether you’re into architecture, history, or just want a beautiful place to explore, this building is a must-see.

My best tip: take the FREE hour-long tour. The friendly, knowledgeable guide (ours was Lorraine) will take you to areas you may not be able to access on your own, all the while providing interesting facts that will truly enhance your appreciation of the history and architecture of this landmark. Tours are at 10, noon and 2.

Lots to see here. We were limited on time so didn't take any tours but we walked around for about an hour. We also go there at closing time. We parked below for a flat $10 fee (credit card only). Took the elevator up and we were underneath the plaza. Can get to everything from there protected from the weather or can go up to the street level and access the other buildings that way. Love that there were great big artworks on the walls along the passageway.
Sharon B — Google review
Incredible spot. A must see if you are in the area. The grounds were very clean, parking was easy and convenient right underneath. We planned to stop for a few minutes and ending up spending 2 hours walking around.

The plaza linked to convention centre , the egg and observation deck. A lot of choice in the food court, good to visit. Beautiful large what foundation around

Fascinating area. The breadth of the architectural approaches and styles is pretty amazing. Stopped by here for some pics and to soak it all in. Came on a Saturday, so parking was easy (parked on street across from the park). Added bonus is the remarkable state capitol at the edge. Would love to come back and explore a bit more.

The architecture is awesome and grandeur feeling is overwhelming .. Best time to visit is after 6pm during the sunset. The parking is available along the street for free after 5pm. They follow bring in and take out policy.. The famous iloveny symbol is another attraction.

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve is a stunning 3,200-acre nature sanctuary located in Albany County, New York. This unique inland pine barrens ecosystem features over 18 miles of trails that wind through picturesque landscapes filled with pitch pines, vibrant wildflowers, and expansive sand dunes. Formed thousands of years ago at the end of the last Ice Age, this globally rare habitat supports diverse wildlife and offers visitors an opportunity to engage with nature through interactive exhibits and programs.
I go to the Pine Bush 3-4 times per week! If you just want to hike, just show up! If you are interested in their shows and presentations, go online to find them. They are always interesting and fun.

Wide range of paths, from a quarter mile to several miles long. It felt so far away from all the busyness in the area; it was like taking a day trip to an isolated area. There was no fee to go on the trails. As an added bonus, the discovery center, which is full of information, is free to explore.
Nicole B — Google review
The Discovery Center is fun to explore & Learn. Plenty of Parking there with accessible walkways. Push button auto opening doors. Very friendly staff and a small but extensive gift shop. I didnt explore the trails in this visit there are many to enjoy.
Landon M — Google review
Quaint place to walk with various trails in a park with meadows. The trails are clearly and frequently marked which is very nice. They are also well maintained and you get some decent views as you wander around. My main complaint would be the amount of road noise but that isn't something I hold against the park considering its location. I would be open to coming back and tying some of the longer trails.
Jozef W — Google review
Love running here. You can park in the new parking lot on Kings Rd and run a huge ~8 mile loop towards the main building and back. Not all the trails are mowed, but the primary trails are great.
Billy M — Google review
If you like walking through the woods, this place is great. I enjoy keeping active by taking my kids here to walk. There are bathrooms (check hours) and a welcome center to help you learn about this unique ecosystem. I have walked all the trails and they offer a diverse look into the ecology of the pinebush as well as a relaxing opportunity for being active.
Larry K — Google review
Lovely afternoon walk! Loads of birds. The Lupine is springing up everywhere and it looks absolutely spectacular. Very clean and tidy trail. Not very busy. Always a lovely adventure. I love that dogs are welcome!
Shane L — Google review
Best place to go for a walk in Albany by far. Just beautiful scenery. It's a little loud at the start, being near a highway, but once you walk deeper into the trail it becomes quiet and serene. I will say though, don't do any trails around here in flip flops since your feet will get really dirty. The trails are covered with sand and are expansive, covering many miles with many trail heads to start out from, not just the most common ones at the vistor center.

Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site is a circa-1762 mansion and Revolutionary War outpost that was visited by George Washington. It now offers informative and engaging tours that highlight the role of the Schuyler family in American history, as well as the experiences of enslaved people who lived and worked on the property. The grounds are beautiful and visitors can enjoy a picnic lunch before their tour. This must-see museum is located in an area that was once all open space, down to the Hudson River.
Informative tour that highlighted the importance of the Schuyler family in revolutionary history. Tour guide was exceptional!

Claire is an absolute fabulous host and tour guide! This is one of our favorite tours and historic sites we have visited so far in the region. The valuable knowledge and restoration work these sites provide are astounding and they have done a great job with this one. A must see when in Albany and if you’re lucky you’ll get the amazing Claire like our group did.

Definitely a must visit if you're into History and/or Hamilton and you are in the Albany area. This house has been a museum for over 100 years. Check it out. $5 admissions as of 9/3/2025 for one hour tours. Recommend making a reservation.
Melvin R — Google review
Very friendly Staff. I was able to navigate quite a bit with my powerchair. I did not go on the tour. I preference to opt for the virtual tour. It just makes more sense for me. Staff at the visitor center were very friendly. Nice options for Souvenirs at very reasonable prices. There's enough to see in the visitor center to keep you occupied for a fair bit, dont let the size of it fool you. Several modern digital interactive learning kiosks and it wasnt overly crowded. I was pleasantly surprised how fragrant the historical plantings were. Maybe because I was spending a bit of time next to the entrance loading my powerchair. But it was pleasant, fragrant and relaxing. Plenty of benches on the grounds to just sit and enjoy.
Landon M — Google review
The history was interesting and tour guides do a nice job. Sizes of the tour are limited to 16 people and they have strict compliance with that. Just wish the view of Albany looked the same as it did in Schuyler’s day
Nick H — Google review
Such an important spot to learn about the History of the Schuyler Family and what kind of impact they had on Albany, their hand in the Atlantic Slave Trade and the decimation of indigenous populations in the region. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and kind and did a wonderful job answering questions. There is a parking lot so that's a bonus too!
Emily L — Google review
We did a tour of the Schuyler Mansion, and we really enjoyed it! The guide was knowledgeable, and it was interesting to learn more of the history of the family. We were impressed at how many actual artifacts from the Schuyler Family were in the home! We also enjoyed the displays in the visitors' center giving an overview of the Schuyler family's history. I would recommend reserving your spot on the tour in advance!

As someone who has 30 years experience in the building trades I was very pleased to see how well the preservation of these buildings have been kept since 1917! I had a tour guide named Sarah who was extremely knowledgeable, welcomed all questions and had a detail answer for all of them. The tour took about 1 hour and for $5 it is well worth it!

Beautiful architecture! Although it’s currently under construction and temporarily closed, it’s definitely worth seeing from the outside. I would have loved to go inside, but even from the exterior, it’s striking and unique. A standout piece of architecture right in the heart of Albany.

An absolute must see if you’re in the Albany area! Beautiful views and surrounded by fountains that run during the day. At night it lights up and a lot of times coordinates with holidays and awareness months. Spectacular spot to eat and even just relax. Definitely don’t miss out on it if in the Albany area

Great place to see a show, architecture is sooo interesting! The setting hold about 300? seats, so pretty intimate. Staff is friendly, shows vary - all very good. There was plenty of parking when I went, and I think there is underground parking as well that is cheap.

Near the Capitol bus stop at Hawk. Great promenade, but the art in the underground concourse should not be missed. Visit the free Corning Observation tower adjacent.

I have been to the egg on several occasions. To see shows, plays, comedians.!Always a fun experience. The carpark is easy to negotiate ample parking. The lift are fast clean and efficient! The outside of the egg is so special and spectacular day or night. The seating in side the auditorium is very comfortable and allow for great views even when you are short like me. Which I can really appreciate. The Egg is always super clean and an excellent place to see any live performance.
Shane L — Google review
We went into here not knowing what we would find, it turns out this is an entrance into the backrooms. We walked for half an hour and came across no one in the main area, there's just random art scattered around too, just adding to the vibe
Craftyscout22 — Google review
Excellent venue, small, which is perfect. Every seat has a great view of the stage. The view from the last row is pictured. Convenient parking is directly below the Egg. The Egg is part of the Empire Plaza with a view of the Capitol of New York State. The architecture style of the plaza is a collaboration of several different eras. If you enjoy architecture and get a chance to go to Albany, check out the Empire Plaza.

The USS SLATER is a museum located in the U.S. that offers tours of the last remaining WWII-era destroyer escort ship still afloat in the country. Visitors can explore various areas of the ship including the galley, guns, and quarters. The knowledgeable and informative guides provide insight into what life may have been like during active service on board. Unlike other boat museum ships, visitors are able to sit on and move the ship's guns around for a more interactive experience.
This was a great experience. My husband is a big history buff and he loved it. My kids 9, 3 and 1 did well with it, the two older even enjoyed it, though it may not be every kids cup of tea. My husband wants to go back to do a longer tour when our oldest is able to go along. The tour guide was very informative, really cool piece of reserved U.S. history.

Great place to visit, very informative and tons of tourists options to meet your needs (physical/time/interest). Staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly enjoy their job. Riaf (sp?) was awesome! Found this through a Google search of "things to do with kids in Albany" and was very happy that I did. Albany was the half-way point on a road trip from Boston for my 8YO son, 72YO dad, and me. Definitely recommend! Was right off the highway, 30min tour allowed us to stretch our legs but not be detoured too long for arriving at our final destination. There is free parking and also a picnic area to enjoy sitting and watching the river.

Visiting the USS Slater was an absolutely incredible experience! This was the first warship we have ever had the chance to explore, and it completely exceeded our expectations. From the moment we stepped aboard, we were transported back in time and given a vivid sense of what life was like for those who served on this historic vessel. Our tour guide was phenomenal and extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about sharing the ship’s history. Every story, every detail, and every corner of the ship came alive through their explanations. The restoration work on the USS Slater is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s clear that countless hours of dedication and care went into preserving every detail, from the machinery to the living quarters, and it’s inspiring to see history kept alive so meticulously. We took the full bow-to-stern tour, which allowed us to see every aspect of the ship, from the operational areas to the crew quarters. It was fascinating to witness how this ship functioned during its active service. What made the experience even more special was the combination of history, hands-on exploration, and personal storytelling. You really gain a deep appreciation for the challenges, bravery, and daily life of those who served aboard. The USS Slater isn’t just a museum, it’s a living piece of history that gives visitors an unforgettable, immersive experience. We walked away not only educated but truly inspired, and it’s a memory we will cherish forever. This is absolutely a must do for anyone visiting the area, whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply looking for a unique and meaningful adventure!

This has been something I've wanted to experience for a while. While I was not able to go aboard. I did really appreciate the staff they were very helpful and upfront with answering my questions about the accessibility of the ship. I could of gotten aboard with my wheelchair but I would not have been able to do much more than just that. The visitor center & gift shop are completely accessible. And they have a very nice observation deck with interpretive signage. I could fully see every part of the ship. I couldn't really get a good photo of the USS Slater in it's entirety. 🫡🇺🇸

My son and I had a fantastic tour given by Art who is a very informative and enthusiastic guide. It was amazing to see a war ship so well cared for and preserved. Art shared an abundance of insight into the working of the ship and the men who served on it. He provided information you don't read about in books such as why the cook may ask if you are right or left handed during rough weather or why the officers preferred the top bunks. My son will be talking about the tour for a very long time. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

While I did not get a chance to tour. It was fun to get a chance to finally see the ship from the outside. Big thanks to New Jersey's Ryan Szimanski efforts on YouTube that made me aware of this and many other very cool ships! Please feel free to use these pictures for promotion.

The U.S.S. Slater was an amazing tour worth the time. I took the "Stem to Stern" which is the 2 hour tour and includes the engine room. I highly recommend this as an educational and enjoyable experience. The tour I took was $25 and worth every penny

Angela and I had a great time visiting USS Slater and we learned a lot during the Stem to Stern tour with Scott! Their radio room is open most Saturday mornings, and as amateur radio operators, it was a privilege to make radio contacts from the ship.

Capital Repertory Theatre, also known as theREP, is a professional regional theater located in Albany's Capital District. Established in 1981, it is housed in a former abandoned supermarket and offers classic and cutting-edge plays and musicals. The intimate 286-seat theater provides an attentive staff and a cafe for patrons to enjoy. The venue hosts various performances, from live theater productions like Shakespeare in Love to rocking holiday shows such as Million Dollar Quartet Holiday.
This was a first visit to the new Rep location. Parking is conveneniet, however, handicap parking is limited to a handful of space. There is ample street parking together with an official REP parking area a little over a block away. The charge for lot parking is currently $10 - no cash, credit only. The new venue is is nice with a small lobby reminiscent of an independently owned movie theater. Light snacks, beverages (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) are offered at a small concession stand. There is very little seating in the event you want to sit and enjoy your food purchase. Staff and volunteers are extremely polite. The seating area is intimate and comfortable. Our seats were at the furthest end which in reality, should not be paid seats. We estimate the 75% or more of our view was obstructed. The staff kindly helped us upgrade our subscription seats to a more acceptable area. Overall, The Rep is wonderful venue to have in our community

"Once" - A phenomenal show performed at Cap Rep! The intimate setting made you feel you were sitting in the Irish Pub. The voices of every actor were astounding. Lifting you with joy ...and striking the heart with sorrow. Just amazing! A must see!

Small venue with a nice variety of shows. Every seat is wonderful. There is a small concession stand with limited food, drink, and alcohol options, but the city offers many restaurants nearby (The War Room!). There is street parking, but the paid lot just down the street is best.

Great little theater, very intimate space to see a play. We "Once" the production was phenomenal. The entire cast was incredible. I absolutely loved this show and this venue

Another brilliant performance! An intimate theater experience. Not a bad seat in the house. Last night we enjoyed a fantastic musical: Once The entire cast were eminently talented musicians/actors. The music was completely enjoyable. Standouts were Lily Talevski (the main female protagonist) and Adam Huel Potter Who was hilarious in his role. “Once” will play through July 29th. Totally worth it!

Loved this theatre. First time here but definitely will be back. As soon as I got home I got tickets to every show that they have scheduled. Great venue.

Every seat is excellent in the beautiful intimate theater space. The latest production, Seared, is first-rate, with outstanding actors, director, and set. The Rep is well organized with security and concessions and the bathrooms are sparkling clean. Love the nice touch of mints in the Ladies Room. Can’t wait to come back!

The tour provides insights into Albany's relationship with the river while offering picturesque views, especially during autumn when fall colors adorn the landscape. Additionally, visitors can explore Albany's attractions through initiatives like CDPHP Cycle!
Had an excellent time even though it was raining! Ample seating, immaculate bathrooms, and good prices at the bar. My friend and I were the only ones on the top deck, and the staff came up a handful of times to check on us/see if we needed anything. What great service! It was a nice way to spend an afternoon.

Fun boat ride down the Hudson with guided narration along the way. We learned some Albany history as well as what a few of the architecturally unique buildings were. We also saw eagles! The boat has a bar and a small cafe serving hot dogs, pretzels, etc. We had a great time and would recommend Dutch Apple to anyone who is visiting the Albany area.

Spent the afternoon on a sight seeing cruise aboard the Dutch Apple. The boat is well kept and sparkling clean. The staff is friendly, attentive, and helpful. The narrator was well informed about the Hudson and Capital District. We got to see 5 beautiful bald eagles, 2 nesting pairs! A delight to a bird nerd, like myself. My children, ages 11 & 8, and my mother, in her 60’s, equally enjoyed the experience. The kids even got to steer the boat with the captain! Food and snacks were great and drinks were cold! Highly recommend a cruise on the Dutch Apple!!

It was a perfect Fall day cruise! We are from the area but never went on the Dutch Apple. The crew was so nice and very informative. The view of the City from the water was pretty cool to see. I highly recommend being a tourist in your own city. Special shoutout to Anthony ! There was a glitch with my tickets (my fault) and he worked with me to make it right. Thank you for a great experience!

In from Galveston, TX. IN Albany, NY for a very good friend's wedding. The tour was great with many historical facts and observations. Frank was a great ship captain, and Peter was a great narrator. Glad we took the tour.

My family and I had a wonderful time on the Dutch Apple Cruise! Nancy, our narrator, was as entertaining as she was informative. Captain Frank was professional, cordial, and even gave our granddaughter an opportunity to "steer" the boat! The staff was extremely welcoming and even provided table service for food and drinks. It's something that my husband and I would definitely enjoy again with both family and friends! Thanks for a great day! :)

What a great experience! I lived in Albany for a significant part of my younger years. I came back to visit and took my family on this boat ride. Washington Park is a historical park spanning 136 acres and adorned with lakes, sports fields, playgrounds, gardens, and statues. The park features gravel pathways that are accessible to wheelchairs despite some steep hills and uneven surfaces. During the Tulip festival season, shuttle buses are available from the Medical Center parking lot to transport visitors to the park. Vendors showcase their products while live music entertains guests amidst beautiful flowers.
I feel so lucky to have moved down the street from this incredible park. It's awesome for walking, connecting with nature, picnics and photography. I've been watching the tulips explode for the last few weeks and it's just a spectacular sight. Love this park so much.

This is a beautiful park in Albany with lovely walking paths perfect for strollers, a small lake for fishing, and the most beautiful tulip festival on the East Coast. There is also a stage for summer performances. Unfortunately, it no longer hosts the winter drive through of lights, but it's still lovely in winter. Come here anytime of year for a beautiful and relaxing walk.

Nice clean plbig park with several spots to lay out on the lawn. The fountain area is beautiful.
Cee J — Google review
Great location for a tulip festival with large crowds. Drawback is lack of seating through much of the park, making it challenging for those who can't sit on the ground to eat and don't want to walk across the park from food vendors. Lovely setting with central fountain. Nice path to stroll on along the lake (but csn get muddy). Picturesque bridges for photos. Public bathrooms in the Boat House. Water fountain in the Boat House. Parking is challenging during large events.

It’s a hidden gem.. the perfect five star fun park for kids of any age.. we were driving back from Vermont to New Jersey and found this place on the way.. it’s actually wanted to do some go karting and I found this place through Google and it had good reviews.. yeah even though it’s not the biggest go karting tracks kids had ample fun.. a smaller track but they had about 21 laps per person.. It was fun. Kids went to the go kart twice .. and pricewise. It wasn’t exuberantly expensive like other the so-called go karting tracks… we paid about $70 for 12 activities, which wasn’t bad at all.. There were also batting cages. Kids had fun hitting baseballs at 405060 MPH. Mini golf was fun too… they had 14 holes and somewhere really difficult.. kids also loved the basketball area .. Really good place to past time for about two or three hours . Staff were so friendly and helpful… not much to eat around, but they had cold drinks.. very good experience overall ..

Fun filled day for kids! Brought my sons here today and they had a great time on the bounce house, mini go karts, bumper boats, and even got in a game of mini golf. We finished the adventure with some ice creams from Lickety Split. Everything was awesome, will be back again!

I cannot thank the team that allowed my son to have the best birthday and time. Each associate made him feel special and gave him an amazing time. He loved soaring through the sky higher than he has ever gone before and even drove his 1st go cart. The associates were extremely patient and understanding since he has spectrum issues, they ensured he was comfortable so he could have the most thrilling time ever. I truly cannot say how great these young men were and the great their approach was. They wanted to give him a great experience and they definitely delivered that. We cannot wait to come back and make more amazing memories!!

Jeremy A — Google review
Sadly this place has fallen off a cliff in quality. Condition is deplorable- It desperately needs investment as the mini golf course is falling apart, bouncy house is old and tired, etc. I’d highly recommend steering away from this place on any sunny day, as it’s a sea of black top and radiates unbearable heat. On these days they require kids to remove shoes to use the bouncy house/funhouse (understandable), but they don’t put down any runner or ground covering, which makes it practically impossible to go in and out of the attractions without literally burning the bottom of one’s feet. Only positive is staff are friendly and prices aren’t horrible. There are many other places that are more deserving of your money and children’s time.

Clean, refreshed, ready for summer fun! I was here with my granddaughters and so impressed with all of the money and care that has been poured in to make this little amusement park safe and fun. Staff were friendly, followed safety protocols, and prompt when kids needed help. As you can see safety signs are posted and enforced. The bumper cars are brand new. Everything is painted and secure. If you haven’t been back in a few years- come back. You’ll be glad you did.

It’s a hidden treasure next to Albany downtown on the edge of Hudson River. After living more than two years in the capital region, I visited this park with my family and friends on September 1, 2024. It has many things to offer like hiking, biking, fishing, site seeing, amphitheater, picnic spot and kids playground. However, the park needs a clean up and redevelopment to attract people. This place can be developed as a means of economic development through the development of broad-walk along the hudson River and restaurants/shops. The skyway is another attraction next to this park. Do not forget to visit this amazing place!

Nice place to relax. There's a lot of fishing here too. There's also a dock for your boats. This park honestly is just another regular parks. There's a ton of parties here. If you just want to hang out in the small gazebo just to watch the water and boats or sometimes the usual beaver just swimming along then this is the park for you. Ascend to the 42nd floor of the Corning Tower Observation Deck at Empire State Plaza for breathtaking panoramic views of Albany and its surroundings. Named after a prominent mayor, this is the tallest building in New York outside Manhattan. From here, you can marvel at the Hudson River Valley, Port of Albany, Adirondack foothills, Catskill Mountains, and even catch a glimpse of the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts. The observation deck is open on weekdays from 10 a.m.
This was a great visit. Hours vary, but when the building IS open you can walk in and take the elevator to the 42 floor to look out over the city! It was gorgeous to see the Hudson River and all this amazing architecture and mountains in the distance.

The Erastus Corning Tower, also known as the Mayor Erastus Corning 2nd Tower or simply the Corning Tower, is a skyscraper located in downtown Albany, New York. Completed in 1973 and sided with Vermont Pearl marble and glass, the state office building is part of the Empire State Plaza. At 589 feet (180 m) and 44 stories[1] in height, it is the tallest skyscraper in the state of New York outside of New York City. Erastus Corning 2nd, the building's namesake, was the mayor of Albany for over 40 years from 1941 to 1983. The tower was dedicated to him in March 1983 during his hospitalization. Before that dedication, it was known as the "Tower Building". The Corning Tower houses the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Office of General Services. Two New York State Department of Transportation traffic cameras are located on the building to monitor nearby traffic conditions. From 2000 to 2004, it was the tallest structure in the World Almanac's list of "Other Tall Buildings in North American Cities".

Jack's Oyster House is a historic, family-run restaurant that has been a staple in Albany for over a century. The restaurant exudes an old-world charm with its dark wood interiors and vintage photographs. Specializing in seafood, particularly oysters, lobster, and clam chowder, it also offers a variety of other dishes including steak, salads, pasta, and burgers. Visitors praise the flavorful food and excellent cocktails while appreciating the attentive and professional service from the staff.
I stopped by this restaurant for dinner one night while I was staying in Albany. I could clearly see why this place has been around for over 100 years. The food and drinks were absolutely devine. The soup and Delmonico steak I ordered was bursting with flavor and they can surely whip up a fantastic cocktail. My server Scout was so sweet, friendly and attentive. The overall appearance of the restaurant is very elegant. I highly recommend checking this place out. I will definitely stop by again the next time I am in the area.

Jacks is the spot! Old world classy, from the servers suits to the rest of the restaurants decor, you can tell this has been an important spot for over a century. I’d highly recommend coming here for dinner if you’re in town, I certainly plan to be back again soon.

It was an absolutely perfect meal. We're treated to an excellent amuse bouche. The oysters were delicious, from British Columbia and Washington State. The Manhattan chowder was not creamy but probably one of the best I've ever had. The muscles were light and flavorful. The Cornish game hen I had was superb and the pasta was excellent. Can't recommend this place enough.

One of the best restaurants in Albany, NY hands down! The staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and professional. I ordered the famous Nantucket Soup which is an appetizer. Once I tasted it I immediately wanted another one and knew I would be coming back here again! I also ordered the Crab Cakes from the lunch menu and my wife ordered the Black & Blue Burger. We were both blown away by the flavor and taste of the dishes. I have since gone back and had dinner there by myself because it was so good the first time! Highly recommended!

The Food and staff are incredible at Jacks. As an area business owner, I can appreciate and recognize the extra mile spent on creating a great experience for it's customers. Celebrating a special occasion? They will make it extra special. Want a great place to eat out once a week? The food, environment and staff never get stale. Just because Jack's been in business for over 100 years does not mean they are resting on their laurels. During COVID-19 restrictions they modified the seating distance, new copper top tables which are even more sanitary, and tweaked the menu with great new options. Oh and it's NOT just amazing seafood. The steak dishes are among the best in the state! With Albany coming alive thanks to new high end apartments, places like Jack's will make you forget about having to drive to Saratoga to enjoy an amazing night in a beautiful city with that special someone. When you are finished try their home made sorbet. Delicious!

We received a warm welcome when we arrived. We were seated promptly. The restaurant is adhering to Covid guidelines with table seating. All staff were wearing masks. So it's not crowded at all. The ambiance was very pleasant. There was a pre-printed paper menu. I ordered the Cesar salad, Cornish hen, and Strawberry Pastry dessert. The FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! The portion size was perfect. The food was arranged with culinary finesse. The reason for the three stars is that the service was SLOW. For the small amount of people present in the restaurant, we were puzzled by the slow service. For each course of our meal, we waited at least 15 minutes. Our water jug was not refilled. I accidentally dropped my fork and the lady hostess said that she would bring me another fork. She forgot. There was an extra dessert fork on the table so I ate with that. Overall it's a nice restaurant but just needs to work on a few things and be consistent among all patrons.

The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and has just the right balance of cozy and lively—perfect for sitting down with friends or enjoying a meal on your own. The service was attentive without being overbearing, which made the whole visit feel relaxed and enjoyable. But the highlight for me was definitely the food. I ordered the Cajun omelette, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best omelettes I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned, cooked just right, and full of flavor—it exceeded my expectations in every way. On top of that, I’m very particular about my coffee, but their latte was spot-on, smooth, rich, and expertly crafted. Definitely coming back here next time I come to Albany. Iron Cafe has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorites. Highly recommended!

What an ambiance. We were received by the kindest hostess and server and then seated in the middle of this historic dining room. Both indoor and outdoor seating were picturesque. The food was also decent although I found the omelets cooked in a little bit extra oil as I could, it's residue on my plate and it bothered me a little. The side salad was amazing with a little bit of extra dressing for my liking. We tried their hot chocolate with Irish cream which was neither hot nor cold somewhere in the middle but tasted decent.

We came at 2 PM and got an indoor table right away (highly recommend — outdoor seating can get hot). The mansion is gorgeous, with preserved wallpaper, chandeliers, and woodwork that give it so much charm. Service was top-notch — our server had great energy and honest food tips. We had the Big Iron Gate with an English muffin and the Mother Clucker Burger. The standout was the Cherry peppers ạ the sweet and spicy paired well with juicy proteins (chicken and sausage) and eggs. Only downside: the bathroom had an unpleasant smell. Fixing that would make the before-and-after-meal experience much better.

🏰 Historic Gem in Albany! 🏰 I visited Iron Gate Cafe in Albany with my parents and was immediately charmed by this unique spot! 🍳 Incredible Food 🍳 The breakfast burrito I ordered was absolutely incredible!! Every bite was packed with flavor and perfectly prepared. It completely exceeded my expectations and left me completely satisfied. 🏛️ Beautiful Historic Setting 🏛️ Walking through the cafe was a delightful experience. They've done an amazing job preserving the historic feeling of the buildings while converting the space into a beautiful dining area. The character and charm of the original architecture shines through in every corner. 👩‍🍳 Knowledgeable Staff 👩‍🍳 Our waitress was so friendly and went above and beyond with her service. What made the experience even more special was her extensive knowledge about the history of the buildings. She shared fascinating details that enhanced our appreciation of this historic gem. ❤️ Perfect Family Outing ❤️ This was such a wonderful place to bring my parents! The combination of delicious food, fascinating history, and welcoming atmosphere made for a perfect family outing. We'll definitely be returning to Iron Gate Cafe whenever we're in Albany again!

This is a very great cafe. The food was fabulous and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They treated us with respect and kindness. The whole experience was amazing. The inside of the building was so impressive that you could feel at home with the whole experience. The outside was just as beautiful and peaceful. I have not captured the experience on my camera but trust me if you can then you should stop in for a wonderful experience in food and service.

Delicious food, I got Cajun scramble and asked for mushrooms and it was amazing. We also got raspberry Brie French toast which was melt in your mouth good! Very cute from the inside, good find for us!

Loved everything about it. My family ordered salads with all kinds of veggies, quinoa and chicken. Hearty, fresh, yum… menu is diverse with tons of great sounding options. Sammies, Benedict’s, bloodies, Prosecco…Lovely garden setting outside. Historical architecture and warm, ornate woodwork inside with chandeliers and stained glass inside. Nice staff.

Perfect spot for brunch! I’ve come a few times since moving to Albany, NY. Absolutely love coming in the spring/summer especially if you do patio seating. We were warmly greeted. My drinks are ALWAYS perfect if Mary/Trish is at the little bar, she gives amazing recommendations, and very professional. It makes a difference when you can notice someone actually likes their job and interacts with us customers. My coworkers & I work nearby and it’s a great meet up place for a few lattes in between business meetings. I’ve not found another brunch spot yet outside of the Nest but I prefer the customer service here. Best menu item is hands down the French toast. Feels more like “home.” Thanks! ☺️

Yono's, located on Chapel Street, is a luxurious dining destination that has been impressing Albany's food enthusiasts since 1986. The opulent townhouse-style space features a refined atmosphere with Indonesian silk curtains, floral arrangements, and gilded mirrors. The menu offers a global selection of Indonesian specialties and continental cuisine, including unique dishes like farm-raised alligator tail. Executive Chef Yono Purnomo blends American-Indonesian flavors to perfection.
My husband and I had a wonderful meal here. As always, you are treated like royalty in their opulent dining room. Our appetizers of Bahkmi noodles and ricotta gnocchi were delicious, as were our entrées of duck and scallops. And bonus: Best gluten-free rolls I've ever had anywhere! 💫🤸💫 The service was extremely attentive and this place does food as well as they do hospitality, Yono's GETS it! 💜

Tried their tasting menu. Pretty unacceptable for fine dining. Food too salty. Service extremely slow. The technicality was also subpar. Feels like we've been eating different foods than everyone else in the reviews. In fact, the plating does look a lot worse for us than others in the reviews.

Took my boyfriend for our first time there for his birthday dinner. The attention to detail in everything they do was remarkable. They even printed a special happy birthday menu with his name on it. The food was amazing. We opted for the 3 course dinner but definetly want to try the 8 course tasting at some point. I had the lobster fried rice and the short rib and I wish I could recreate them at home because I will be thinking about them until the next time I go back. Service was excellent and not overbearing. Thank you so much for making it such a special evening!

This was our second time here. We went a little before our wedding to destress and again today for our 1st anniversary. We ended up doing the tasting menu with a wine pairing. Our sommelier, Josh, was so knowledgeable and friendly, and we can't say enough kind words about our server Kiara. Definitely recommend this to celebrate a special occasion!

What an absolutely beautiful restaurant for occasions such as anniversaries, graduations, birthdays and more. My boyfriend and I went to Yono’s to celebrate our 5 year anniversary tonight and it was one of the best decisions we could have made. Not only was the staff amazing, helpful, attentive and sweet, but the food itself was some of the best food we’ve ever had. The experience was unlike any other and the wine pairings that go with the meal were amazing. We did the 3 course meal but the waitress let us know we could add a mid course or a 4th course (being one of the first course options) for an a la carte price which ended up working perfectly for us as we were able to share with each other and try different things. The espresso Creme brûlée was a highlight of my night seeing as it’s one of my favorite deserts, and the food portions are definitely enough to get you full. We will definitely be back!

The Palace Theatre, located in the Clinton Avenue Historic District, is a stunning Baroque-style theater dating back to 1931. With a seating capacity of 2,844, it hosts concerts, classic movies, and performances by the Albany Symphony Orchestra. The theater underwent extensive restoration in both 1960 and between 2002-2003. Visitors are transported back in time upon entering the opulent venue with its impressive architecture and excellent acoustics.
I absolutely love this iconic venue. The architecture in it is Just amazing. The acoustics are awesome. Seats are pretty comfy. If you're up in the balcony, just know you have to take the stairs. There are no elevators. I've seen a lot of great concerts here over the years. Just last week I saw Melissa Etherridge again here.
13shadylady13 — Google review
The Palace Theatre is an amazing venue right in the heart of Downtown Albany. Despite its age, it has been restored and truly is a work of art. I found the venue to be very clean, the seats in the upper section were spacious, and the venue has streamlined the exits they have so getting out after a sold out show isn’t hard at all. Street parking is around the venue or if you prefer there are parking garages nearby.
Jack F — Google review
Beautiful older well-kept venue in the heart of downtown Albany. We were there to see Australian Pink Floyd and had Loge seats in the balcony. Perfect seats with great views. Concession stands were reasonably priced compared to other venues. This building is a true gem with a million beautiful details.

One of the best concert venues in town! It's a gorgeous older theater with colorful murals and intricate sculptures everywhere. The chandelier is amazing. The sound is always good, and there isn't a bad seat in the house.

What a great place to see a concert! My boyfriend and I enjoyed an incredible show last week when Melissa Etheridge and a very pregnant Joss Stone came to town. We had great seats, but this place doesn't look like it has a bad seat in the house! The staff were friendly and helpful, and the bar lines moved quickly! I look forward to going back for many future performances! PS: Parking is also convenient and close, and the lot had a reasonable flat rate of $20 for the show!

Flew in from Louisiana to attend my daughter's graduation. When I saw The Palace Theater was the venue it was being held I thought to myself, "WOW! How beautiful and swanky"!!! Well, that was a quick assumption because how hot and uncomfortable they had that place was UNREAL!!! It was 93 degrees outside! Y'ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!! All of the graduates was on stage fanning themselves! I felt sorry for them because they had to be extremely hot with all those lights shining down on them!
Mrs. J — Google review
My first time to Palace Theater, went to see John Cleese. Note: I’ll adjust this interview after future visits depending on additional observations. Of course, he was funny, though it was disappointing how little of his time he actually gave before/after the screening of Holy Grail. I’ll set that aside, though, and focus on reviewing the venue. 1: Parking availability. While not in the theater’s direct control, still an important factor. Thankfully, there are plenty of places to park with an easy walk to the theater, given how many other attractions are nearby. Just be aware that the prices to park vary dramatically - if you’re able to get a metered spot, it’s quite reasonable. Otherwise, I’ve encountered public and private parking when I’ve went to other things nearby that varies from $5 to $30, which is kind of crazy. 2 - Look/architecture Beautiful, classic, really a treasure. No notes. 3 - Seat comfort With the caveat that I’ve only been there once and sat in middle/aisle/orchestra - I’d say the seats were decently comfortable for people of average and tall height. Legroom isn’t too bad (I’ve seen soooo much worse, just look at many of the Broadway theaters in NYC). Width is reasonable for beings of average/just above average girth. 4 - Sound This is where I have a serious issue, and where I wonder if this is a common issue here or not. During the talking portions of the evening, it was difficult to make out what John Cleese was saying at points; the sound was muddled. He doesn’t have a particularly thick accent, and I’ve seen fairly recent interviews with him on streaming (eg he recently did one on BBC morning) and it was fine. The worst of it, though, was the actual screening of the movie. It was brutally loud, like “hey, let’s set the volume like we’re giving a death metal concert” loud. I felt like I was being assaulted with sound, and the recording in use clearly wasn’t meant to be blasted at those levels as it was scratchy/distorted at points. I had a throbbing headache after a few minutes which lasted for hours. So…overall, not the best experience. I’m giving 3 stars for now under the assumption that the sound issues were due to poor choices by staff touring with Mr. Cleese; I’ll update next time I go to something here.

It was a beautiful theater I loved the multiple bar stations I loved the concession stand for popcorn and candy I loved the Christmas tree and care tables look down to the atrium It's very beautiful lots of gold embellishments I loved the angels all around It was gorgeous The only issue was set break and they filtered everyone out the side door and it was crazy chaotic and potentially dangerous People were coming on and out of 1 door People being hundreds... And it was raining so the other doors were blocked by people outside under the eave It was nuts But we survived Overall You guessed it I love the Palace Theater

Despite some negative reviews mentioning closed or unfamiliar stores, the mall has a good variety of shops suitable for everyone. There are two separate arcade places to accommodate crowds and provide family-friendly fun. Overall, Crossgates Mall is an above-average shopping destination worth checking out.
A terrific mall. Very bright and spotlessly clean and modern. It has all the stores you need, and it’s fully occupied. Comfortable seating throughout, very brightly lighted, with two levels. Anchored by a Macy’s. Plus, not too crowded. ♿️
PhilYouIn — Google review
We visited there mainly for JCPenney. Since it was our first time, we were a bit confused about where to park. Once inside, we started at JCPenney, which was quite large. We spent a lot of time on the top floor , because of their huge collection of dresses. Afterward, we checked out a few other outlets like JD Sports, Spirit Halloween, Bath & Body Works, and a couple more. Since it was the weekend, many stores began closing earlier. We really wanted to shop at DSW and Miniso, but unfortunately, time was too short to visit all the outlets we had planned. When we finally stepped out from the ground floor, we realized our car wasn’t parked there, we had to go all the way back from the ground floor to the top floor again (through Jcpenny ) . Overall, the place is huge and definitely requires sufficient time to explore and shop for everything you want.
Maria O — Google review
Very large mall, and we went while it was very empty. It kind of felt like a liminal space! Sooo many different stores, there's definitely something here for everybody. Parking was easily accessible. My main issue with this mall was the bathrooms. I could not find a restroom for the life of me, which either means they are few and far between, or that they aren't easy to find. The food court has a nice selection of items as well from all different cultures. Korean, Chinese, classic NY pizza. I have a corn dog displayed below that we bought. Only other issue I experienced was a few escalators were broken. I assume they're fixing that ASAP though. Fun place to explore!

I’ve been visiting this mall for as long as I can remember, and it continues to hold a special place in my heart. From childhood memories to current visits, it’s always been a welcoming and dependable spot. Whether I’m shopping, grabbing a bite, or just taking a leisurely walk, the mall never loses its charm. Its atmosphere feels timeless, and I truly hope it remains around for generations to come so everyone can enjoy the same wonderful experiences I’ve cherished over the years.

Pretty clean and lots to do. Almost all the escalators were broken though. Very friendly staff and some overly friendly workers that will follow you and try to give you their business card while saying “do you style your hair?” Got stopped 3 times by the same lady asking the same question

Good variety of shops — I liked finding both Zara and Primark here. Clean and easy to get around, and parking is usually very good. Food court - meh - selection of fries, some more fries and orange chicken.
Coco — Google review
I was there on Halloween and it was so cool to see everyone dressed up and the businesses handing out candy to kids and some grown-ups! I am from Rhinebeck NY and the closest mall that still has stores in it is in Poughkeepsie NY. Had the best day!!
Dakota S — Google review
Being Gen X sometimes feels like living in the perfect in-between. We grew up in an era where the mall was the social center of the universe — a place to meet friends, grab a slice, wander record stores, and maybe spend a little too much time in the arcade. And while the world has shifted to two-day shipping, instant downloads, and virtual everything, there’s still something comforting — almost grounding — about being able to walk around a mall today. There’s a special kind of appreciation that comes from remembering life before everything was online. Browsing a shelf instead of an algorithm’s suggestion, feeling the weight of a book or a piece of clothing before buying it, or just people-watching with a coffee in hand — it all carries a certain nostalgia that online shopping can’t replace. Being Gen X means enjoying the convenience of the digital world without losing the value of the physical one. We can shop online with the best of them, but we still know the quiet satisfaction of strolling through a mall just because we can. It’s a reminder of where we came from — and a little proof that not everything worth experiencing fits neatly into a shipping box.

The Erastus Corning II Tower, located at Empire State Plaza, offers breathtaking panoramic views of Albany and its surroundings. Standing at 44 stories tall and 589 feet high, the tower's observation deck provides stunning vistas of the Hudson River, Catskill Mountains, Berkshire Mountains, Adirondacks, and more. The enclosed observation deck features floor-to-ceiling windows that allow visitors to admire the sweeping landscapes.

I visited the tower since the state museum was closed Monday. The observation deck gives a beautiful view over Albany. I wasn't sure if it was open due to covid. It was indeed open as of late November. There is an elevator constantly going up and down and the staff were really friendly. I was the only visitor on a Monday morning so give this place a try!

Open during Summer 2021. Free admission to the observation tower, it's never been busy when we've been up there. Very nice view from the top, although not westward. The capital grounds are also very beautiful, especially on a nice day.

Went there on Monday and Google says it’s open, but it’s actually closed. Wanted to go onto the observation deck, had to wait until next time passing by. The area under the Corning Tower is still worth a visit though. (Went on Washington’s Birthday, which seems to be holiday for the staff. Never mind.)

One of the nicest FREE attractions on Empire State Plaza. The view from the top is amazing, especially of the Hudson River and the intricate network of highways that converge on the interchange near the river. There is a designated elevator on the ground floor that takes you directly to the observatory. Once on top, you'll be greeted by the nicest, most pleasant staff you'll ever meet! The observatory only provides a 270-degree view. There are no views on the side of the building facing the massive capitol grounds, although the Egg Center and Capitol Building are visible. There are some information boards to help visitors identify the most notable attractions on view.

Shawn T — Google review
My sister & I took the Founders Tour on April 19th. Paul & Mary Liz Stewart were gracious hosts and patient storytellers who -- despite facing strong headwinds from a hostile federal government intent on drastic cuts -- have made this vital place of learning an Albany institution. This is NOT another polished, "look-but-don't-touch" house museum or reliquary for fossilized history. It is very much a work in progress and a team* project. As a visitor, you are invited not to learn passively from a script or staid exhibits, but to bear living witness to how the brick-and-mortar work of public history, archaeological preservation, and community-building is done. In fact, you are invited to participate. The economic, social, and cultural activism undertaken by Stephen and Harriet Myers is every bit as important today as it was in the 19th century. If you are local, it's exciting to see how this space, this legacy fits into a broader municipal, regional, national, and international context. If you are from out of town, it's an opportunity to take this knowledge home with you, to grow the UREC's network of lifelong learners, and to carry on the proud tradition of freedom-seekers everywhere. *shout out to Lacey, Carol, Amelia, Carmen, Marcus, and all the dedicated staff & volunteers who fill the house with their warmth

Nestled just a short drive from downtown Albany, Huck Finn's Playland is a charming amusement park that has been delighting families since its inception in 1951. Originally known as Hoffmans Playground, this nostalgic venue offers an array of kiddie rides and family attractions that cater to younger children and their parents alike. With around a dozen delightful rides—including roller coasters, merry-go-rounds, and train rides—there’s no shortage of fun for little ones.
Great little place, especially for toddlers & preschoolers. We went today for a special birthday treat and it was $40 for 25 tickets and it lasted us (2 children) for over 3 hours. They have some food, drinks, and snacks there as well that are extremely reasonably priced. Cool train ride going every 30 mins twice around the park so about 5 mins. Bathrooms are all flush and decently clean. Easy parking and convenient location, we will certainly be back with friends! Thanks for a great day 😀

We took our two-year-old grandson and it was perfect for him. The rides were fun and the appropriate time. We spent three hours there. It was reasonably priced. What I liked most was no teenage rides and thus no wild teenagers in an amusement park! The area around the park was pretty gritty, but it didn’t bother us. Most of the people in the park were a little trashy, but acceptable. The bathrooms also needed some attention.

Great little amusement park. Went in May on a Sunday, basically no lines so you make the most of your time. Classic rides. My 10 year old said it was the best, better than waiting an hour for a Rollercoaster in a big park. Some of th rides have a height maximum so check it out before you get too excited. Still plenty to do for kids over 48"

$20 wristband day was well worth it. I can't say I'd go any other day for the price. The kids had a blast and the old school bus was a hit. I took off a star because they were out of all cotton candy except banana an hour after opening. The young staff were great and very fun and polite. I'm sure we'll be back. :)

Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the two hours we spent here; they are 12 and 9. We went on a Sunday and bought wristbands for unlimited rides, and a few tickets for adults. The staff were all so friendly and the park was impeccably clean, and the classic rides were in great shape. As other reviewers mention, Huck Finn Playland is in a more industrialized area of Albany, but it's safe and accessible. There was a nicely mixed crowd of people in the park. Highly recommend!

The New York State Education Department building, previously known as the New York State Museum, Library and Archives, is a must-see in Albany. Constructed between 1908 and 1912, it boasts grand neoclassical architecture reminiscent of Washington D.C.'s monuments. The front facade features the world's longest colonnade made of white marble. Free public tours are available on Saturdays to explore its stunning interior with a spectacular rotunda adorned with frescoes.
This is another gorgeous building that you would like to visit when in Albany. I didn't get a chance to go inside since it is a secured building, but public tours are available. This building has the longest colonnade that I have seen so far in the tri-state area. Outer view of the building is gorgeous. I hope to go for a public tour in the future.

I was visiting the New York State Capitol and saw this building, what magnificent architecture and complete building was not even coming to one frame, that huge it is. The building is known for its expansive colonnade. The Education Building of the State of New York was completed in 1912 and was the first major governmental building constructed exclusively for educational purposes. It houses offices of the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and was formerly home to the New York State Museum and New York State Library The building is 140 feet wide (including the front steps), and 590 feet long. The rear wing is 185 feet by 112 feet. There are 36 hollow, fluted pillars made of Vermont marble that run along the front of the block-long building. Each pillar is 90 feet tall.

The architecture is stunning - takes my breath away every time I see it. It's a secured building, so I have never been inside. I just learned there are free tours on Saturdays at 2pm. Reservations are required. I'm sure the inside is as beautiful and I now have to go back and get some of those photos, too.

The worst customer service! I’m waiting for my license since May! Today is September! They constantly drop calls and are very rude. They don't provide any information over the phone. Always saying same thing “ wait 6-8 weeks” people can’t work! And they just don’t even know for how long the process can take.

Only commenting on the architecture of the building -- which is amazing. The sheer enormity of the exterior (all I saw) is stunning. Would love to return to see the interior. October 2021.

I have been waiting for over three months to receive my RN license after passing the NCLEX. Every time I call, I am told that they are waiting to finalize my school credentials. This makes no sense since I was already allowed to sit for the NCLEX. After passing the exam, I should have received my license within a few days. When I took the LPN NCLEX, I received my license promptly. This delay is unacceptable and frustrating. The lack of efficiency and clear communication from the New York Board is extremely disappointing.

The Crossings Park of Colonie is a vast and serene park that showcases the pure beauty of nature. Spanning 130 acres, it features a picturesque meadow, an arboretum, woodland trails, and a tranquil pond. The park's natural terrain is connected by 6.5 miles of multiuse paths for various activities such as walking, running, biking, and in-line skating.
The Crossings Park of Colonie is a fantastic spot for a weekend picnic! The lush green spaces and children play area are well-maintained. There are ample picnic tables and grills, making it convenient for families and groups. The park also has clean restrooms and a party hall. A serene lake and walking trails add to the relaxing atmosphere, perfect for a day out. Highly recommended for a peaceful, enjoyable outdoor experience!

This place is beautiful and dreamy! It was special to know it like this all covered in snow, because in the spring and summer seasons, people stay here having their meetings and having fun with their families, another special place in the United States. Later, as soon as this snowy season is over, I'll come back and update the photos.

Beautiful park! Enjoyed the extensive amount of wildlife throughout the park.We found frogs tadpoles, birds, geese and of course to fish!! Great space for biking walking the dogs and letting kids get all their energy out.

Beautiful park with nice trails. I love going to the gazebo area where one can enjoy stunning views of the pond and the Canadian geese grazing in it. The park is especially beautiful during the fall with all of the vibrant leaf colors.

The Crossing is a nice 130-acre recreational park located in Colonie, NY. The park offers nearly 7 miles of walking/hiking/biking paths that are paved. The centerpiece of the park is a scenic pond complete with geysers. Most of the trails are relatively flat and easy. The trails wind through different parts of the park and connect to roads in the surrounding neighborhoods. Trail maps can be found online and the trails are well labeled throughout the park. The park's trails provide a nice escape into nature. The most popular spot in the park is most likely the pond with geysers. Here you will find park benches to sit and enjoy the area. Ducks, geese, and fish can be seen in and around the pond. Near the pond you will find nice buildings and pavilions. The buildings are often used for conferences and are sometimes open to the public. Restrooms can also be found in this area. On Saturdays, the park holds one of the area's largest farmer's markets. Near the back of the park is a swimming pool with a two story waterslide. Overall, the park offers many different activities for everyone. In a local poll this park was voted the best in the area. It is easy to see why when coming here.

If you're on the hunt for a fun-filled escape, look no further than Billy Beez at Crossgates Mall in Albany, NY. This vibrant indoor play park spans an impressive 22,000 square feet and is packed with thrilling activities that cater to children of all ages. From exhilarating trampolines and colorful slides to engaging obstacle courses and ball blasters, there's no shortage of excitement here!
It's my son 7th birthday party. It was blast. We enjoyed a lot. All my guests were happy. Staff was so good and helpful. James helped us a lot from starting till end. Thank you so much Billy Beez staff for making my party so good.
RANJAT R — Google review
Complete trash. We went shortly after they opened and the little play area was trashed with play food everywhere. The other rooms were completely empty with chairs just thrown everywhere. It’s obvious not one employee picks up ever. Nor do they care. Garbage everywhere. When I asked for a partial refund the employee (Ayasia … something like that) she was so rude, called me a liar, called her manager and completely misrepresented what I had said to her , told me to just leave in front of my family and other young children. Emailed corporate and their response was disgusting. They take no responsibility for anything. The experience is not what is advertised. Just a trashy place, trashy employees, trashy company in general. I didn’t take photos of everything but as you can see just completely pathetic. The one and only job of this place is to provide a fun environment for children and they failed. As you can see by the other reviews I’m not alone.
Andrina F — Google review
I recently took my kids to Billy Beez, spending a couple hundred dollars for what I expected to be a safe and fun experience. While the kids enjoyed the play area, I left feeling disappointed and concerned. First off, there was no security at the entrance the gate was wide open, and kids could run in and out freely. That’s a serious safety issue, and for the amount of money they charge, you’d think they’d prioritize security. It’s unsettling to know that any child could wander off or that someone could walk in unnoticed. On top of that, several pieces of equipment were broken, making parts of the play area unusable. Instead of focusing only on profits, maybe they should invest some of that money into fixing or replacing broken equipment to ensure a safe environment. And don’t get me started on the food policy, no outside food or drinks are allowed, which would be fine if the food they served was decent. Instead, we got burnt pizza that wasn’t even worth eating. For the price, I expected much better. At the end of the day, my kids had fun, but as a parent, I was disappointed. If they want to continue charging premium prices, they need to step up and improve security, maintain their equipment, and serve better food. Fun for kids, but safety concerns, broken equipment, and bad food make it hard to recommend!
Jo6y420 — Google review
We had our daughter's birthday party here on 11/1. Billy Beez is getting 2 stars rather than 1 because the kids did have a great time. That being said, as other reviewers have pointed out, there is NO security whatsoever. The gate was wide open, allowing anyone to come or go. For $500 for a birthday party I feel completely ripped off! We didn't get our party favors, we never saw our hostess, they were late getting us into our room, and the rude front desk associates kept sending our guests to the wrong room. I would *maybe* consider letting my kids go back to play, but I will never have another party here and I'm going to make sure everyone I know knows about this. For the amount of money I paid, I want a good experience! I feel scammed.

This place is absolutely disgusting and unclean. $30 for myself and my 2 year old for filth. I told the staff it was dirty and they began to take pictures. You can look at mine as well. Do yourself a favor and not go here. Go to Littles Play & Cafe if you have children under 8. The place is spotless and cleaned throughly throughout the day. I thought it was $17 to come here. Had I known it was the same price, we would've went there. I'm pissed.

Booked a birthday party , it was so much fun for the kids , everyone loved the Pizza , staff was super helpful. We had some guests which could not show up at the last minute , we had already paid for everything, we talked to customer service they gave us few bounce backs for my kid which was super nice.
Drishty S — Google review
If I could leave no stars I would. It was extremely dirty, everything from the floors to all the climbing equipment. There was old baby puke on the mat in the climbing area. Everything was sticky. It just opened and the bathrooms were extremely dirty. For a place to be open for children, it should have better cleaning standards. I just can’t get over how dirty everything was, extremely disappointed. The employees were late at opening and as always very rude. No one is around to even to talk to about cleaning something up. My 4 year old has been picking up trash since we walked in. Who ever the owner is of this establishment should really take a moment and to look at what they are offering for the community. You can tell it’s just about the income and not actually offing a fun and enjoyable space for children and families.

Albany City Hall, situated on Eagle Street, is a historic government building constructed in 1883 by Henry Hobson Richardson. The Romanesque-style structure boasts a 202-foot carillon tower, one of the few municipal carillons in the U.S., added in 1927 as a World War I memorial. It's an essential stop for history enthusiasts exploring Albany's downtown area.
This place is beautiful! You are allowed to walk around and look but you have to go through security which takes no time at all and everything was beautiful! Also I love how parts of the building haven’t changed. It really shows the history of this place. I would highly walking or taking a tour around this place.

Dear workers at albany city hall, please allow me to inform you. Any and all policy you may have about no phone or recording device usage in public access areas, is trumped by the constitution. Recently, a parent took four children aged 7 to 14 to Albany's Indoor Rockgym for their first rock climbing experience. Upon arrival, they were unsure of what to expect. However, an individual named Christian proved to be incredibly helpful and supportive throughout the process. Christian guided them through each step with great patience, a friendly and helpful demeanor, and even displayed a good sense of humor. He went the extra mile by encouraging the youngest daughter who was initially scared to climb higher.
The staff were absolutely amazing, they gave lots of tips and advice. The cave crawls were super fun and I highly recommend adults give them a try, although they can be a little claustrophobic so keep that in mind. They also have a bunch of awesome crack climbs and top rope ceiling climbs. All in all, it was a great experience.

I started climbing here at the beginning of this year (2025). The routes are really thought out and find a way to balance the fun and challenge. All of the staff I have met are incredibly knowledgeable and have extensive experience. They also offer private lessons and I started doing those around the same time I started altogether. Throughout this year I have gone at least once a week meeting with Ellie learning the basics and different techniques along the way. I could not give enough praise for what she has taught me. I have gone from a complete beginner to climbing my first V4 recently at another gym without her guidance. They also offer guided outdoor climbing excursions led by Matt when weather permits. He walked me through all the safeties and how it works when brought to Little Falls to do my first outdoor climbs. An incredible experience was had. It’s clear the staff here know what they are doing and how to teach it clearly. If you’re thinking of starting, this is a great place to go!
Dean K — Google review
Interesting climbing gym, but this review is about their guided trips and crag etiquette. I enjoy climbing at Moss Island, Little Falls, and I am disappointed to say that AIR is known for setting up ~10 climbs and leaving them up for the whole day, but only having people climb on about 3 ropes at a time, leaving many ropes unused and unattended. This vastly reduces the number of bolts available for other people visiting the crag to use. For a popular crag with an already-limited number of anchor bolts, this feels like very bad etiquette for an established guide service in the region.

Best private lesson ever with Ellie Koptsev! As a middle aged know-nothing, she made me feel comfortable and confident in just an hour. I now feel like I could go climb whenever I want to, or go with some more experienced climbers and not hold them back. Thanks again Ellie!

The Knickerbocker tea (named after the old Albany newspaper) is delicious. The liquor is delicious. They have a private space and they will provide a bartender with an open bar for about 25-35$ person plus tip per hour. Very new establishment. There is an outdoor area in the back that used to be a stable for the old Nabisco Biscuit company in the 1800s. It's a large outdoor area with tons of space. Can't wait to check it out in the summer. Don't let the location put you off. This place is worth visiting for a cocktail.

Situated on Ten Broeck Place in Albany, the Ten Broeck Mansion is a historic house museum that was constructed between 1797 and 1798 by General Abraham Ten Broeck. Originally named Prospect, this Federal-style mansion underwent renovations in the Greek Revival style about thirty years later. The mansion offers visitors a glimpse into history and culture, with its formal gardens and views of the Hudson River.
Visiting the Ten Broeck Mansion in Albany was like stepping back in time! From the moment I stepped inside, I was blown away by the gorgeous architecture and the beautiful gardens surrounding the mansion. The attention to detail in the restoration is incredible, and it really shows off the elegance of the early 19th century. The guided tour was the best part of my visit. Our knowledgeable guide told us all sorts of fascinating stories about the mansion’s history and the Ten Broeck family. I was especially impressed by the super cool period furnishings and the amazing craftsmanship everywhere. Each room was like a portal to a different era, and I loved learning about the mansion’s important role in Albany’s history. The gardens were just as magical as the inside. Wandering through the lush greenery and colorful flowers was the perfect way to relax after the tour. It’s a great spot for taking pictures or just enjoying nature’s beauty. Whether you’re a history buff, an architecture lover, or just looking for a fun day out, Ten Broeck Mansion is a must-see. I left feeling like I had a whole new appreciation for Albany’s history and a strong desire to go back. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to explore the past!

The Ten Broeck Museum is a wonderful historic mansion museum in Albany, NY. The mansion was built in 1797 by Abraham Ten Broeck and his wife Elizabeth Van Rensselaer. Ten Broeck was the first mayor of Albany and his wife was the only daughter of the powerful landowner/patroon Stephen Van Rensselaer. After Ten Broeck, the house was expanded by different owners and was donated as a museum in 1948. The mansion has several interesting rooms, nice views, and has a nice set of gardens. The tour experience here is wonderful. The tour gives a nice personal history of the different owners of the house. A history of the people who worked as servants or slaves is also presented. The history of each room is presented in an interesting fashion. Altogether, the tour covers three floors of the house. The Albany County Historical Association does a great job maintaining this historic site. Either before or after your tour be sure to check out the beautiful gardens that surround the mansion. It is best to book a tour online ahead of time. There is a free parking lot at the mansion. If in the Albany area put this on your list of places to see.

Passionate and hospitable museum guides made the house tour quite memorable, easy parking on premises. Mature trees around the house including dawn redwood, nice gardens in front of the house. It is good to couple this visit with Schuyler historical site in Albany.

A National Treasure in the Heart of Albany this Amazing landmark mansion is an absolute delight! The gardens are open year round offering a beautiful green space for the urban surround. Magnificent views during fall and winter. The Board members are above and beyond passionately committed to the mansion and their preservation of it. A worthwhile place to endow your support.

It's unpleasant for me to leave this review because I generally do everything I can to support nonprofits, as a donor and as a consultant. But someone on the board needs to give this executive director a 101 on how to build relationships, and how did generally when you're in a leadership position of a not-for-profit organization.

My favorite garden in Albany! Formal garden with a few small tables and a large lawn. The storms of June 2023 took out a huge tree and several large boughs. This is tragic but also reveals fantastic views.

Albany Rural Cemetery is a vast and beautiful cemetery spanning over 400 acres, offering visitors the chance to explore its serene grounds. The cemetery is not only the final resting place for notable figures but also for everyday individuals cherished by their loved ones. Visitors can enjoy leisurely activities such as walking, reading, and picnicking amidst the picturesque surroundings. The cemetery's carriage roads create an ambiance that transports one to another era, adding to its allure.
Wonderful cemetery with well over 400 acres to explore. Noteable people buried here, as well as every day folks loved by their families and friends. I love that people come to walk, to sit and read, to picnic under the blue sky. Great carriage roads meander throughout - kinda makes you feel like you're in another timeframe. I even found some Tiffany!

The Albany Rural Cemetery is a historic cemetery located in Menands, NY. The cemetery is the resting place of many important politicians and historical figures including President Chester A. Arthur, Stephen Van Rensselaer, Erastus Corning, William Paterson, and Daniel Manning. The cemetery is noted for its landscape design and well crafted mausoleums, headstones, and memorials. It is possible to both walk, hike, bike, or drive through the cemetery. There are maps available to help find the list of notable people who are buried here. Despite the fact that there is a map, certain memorials and graves can be hard to find. The “sectioning” system that is used here can be confusing. Probably, the most visited grave in the cemetery is that of former President Chester A Arthur. It is easy to find the signs that direct you towards his grave. The gravesite itself is one that stands out in the cemetery and is befitting of a former president. Some parts of the cemetery are much better maintained than others. The staff was helpful and friendly in answering any questions. Before coming here make sure to get a map from the cemetery’s website. Overall, it is a historic cemetery that is worth a visit.

The cemetery, so beautiful been coming here for so many Years only thing they just have to stay up on the maintenance and cutting the grass. Highly recommend to bring friends and family to see the beautiful scenery!!

Grounds are the worst I have seen in decades. Grass is above my knees in many areas Trees that fall are left to turn brown. Roads are horrible to drive on. Office isn't even open on Saturdays for visitors now. They also delete any valid criticism of the unacceptable conditions on their Facebook page.

We had heard that the 21st President of the United States was buried here. The office staff was helpful and gave us a map of the cemetery and we drove right to it. This place is huge and some of the headstones are quite elaborate.

Recently this place has become a favorite again! They have been cleaning up so much that was neglected for so long! And they are leaving more flowers and natural habitats for insects, birds and especially butterflies and bees! We started seeing praying mantis again, as well as TONS of birds! Keep up the great work!

I love this cemetery but some of the locals are absolutely insane and act like they own the place. I had some angry, elderly guy come up to my car window yesterday and declared that he lived there and that he was not crazy

Very beautiful cemetery in menands ny that is the size of central park in manhattan as it will take you all day to see all the graves here. There are multiple entrances and exits here, st agnes cemetery next door and a Jewish cemetery next door. Heads up, a train crossing comes through here and it is active, the owner lives on site, menands police dept patrols here regularly, and do not come here after dark as it is easy to get lost, the police will arrest you if you are caught by them in the dark, coyotes in the woods and other wild animals, stay on the paths and roadways at all times, multiple roadways that have collapsed in this cemetery including a road in the middle ridge section next to the burden family vault, steep dropoffs here too!

The amphitheater seating can accommodate up to 1,500 people and the stage is set at the Lakehouse within the park. While some visitors have opted for reserved seating at a cost, others have enjoyed the free shows. Despite varying opinions on seating comfort and pricing, many praise the high-quality productions with powerful performances and fantastic music.
Very fun activities. It is one of a few activities where you can see a nice melting pot crowd. The best thing it is free for all of us to enjoy. Washington Park should be at the top of your list next time you come to visit us.

This take on the play borders on grotesque. Jud dies *not* by falling on his own knife but rather by Curly shooting him after Jud drops his gun! And the town of white people quickly absolve Curly of murder, after which he sings "oh what a beautiful day" after murdering someone on his wedding day. Ugh.

We saw Oklahoma! here summer 2025 and enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere. Highly recommend getting there early to get a good seat, and be prepared for outdoor weather. Parking is free on the road or $10 in the parking area close to the theater. Bring your own chairs and any food or beverage you would like, but concession stand is also available. Bathrooms inside the building.

So much fun and so accommodating for an outdoor event. Not crowded at all and bathrooms were clean as well as the park. The play was entertaining and funny. All the actors and singers were amazing! They truly showed great professionalism when ambulance showed up for a person in the crowd. They stopped the play until emergency responders did their thing and took the patient to the hospital.

I stumbled upon a charming park in Albany, New York called the New York State Women Veterans Memorial. It is adorned with lush greenery, pathways for strolling, and seating areas to relax. Finding parking near the memorial can be a bit difficult, but I managed to secure a spot. I want to express my gratitude to all the women veterans who have served our country. This memorial is just one of many meticulously maintained memorials located throughout the Empire State Plaza that should not be missed.
Nice peaceful place to go, wander around, read about honoring women in the military. Surrounded by trees, with a water fountain in the center. Sometimes I'll go with a book to read and just think about life. Ground for the memorial happened in June 1998 and was unveiled that December.

Site of first U.S. Shaker settlement featuring museum in 1848 meeting house, garden & buildings.
Shaker Heritage Society hosts many wonderful craft fairs throughout the year. The products are beautifully hand-crafted, the food products are delicious, and the wine tastings are quite a draw! I would like to see more wineries and distilleries so there would be a little more variety, but overall, we found many gift items for friends and family, and will continue to attend!

If you enjoy history museums, then I would definitely recommend visiting here. You have an opportunity to walk around outside checking out the buildings, garden, and learning more about how the Shakers lived. We were lucky enough to be visiting the area from out of state when they had their annual Market going on. The Christmas Market provided a variety of handcrafted gifts but you also see and read more history about the Shakers. Inside where the market is held, I paid attention to pictures on the wall, artifacts from their past, and even the architecture of the meeting house. The staff were all so friendly and engaging that my husband and I enjoyed our time there and we shopped more than we planned, lol! Also of note, the bathrooms, which had been updated, were very clean as well as accessible. I was happy to find the entrance inside the market was a ramp which made it much easier to navigate with my cane. Again, I'm happy I looked this up and decided to check it out!

Great time at the summer craft fair. Loved petting farm animals and Meadowdale farm winery.

A very enjoyable walk while learning how the shakers community lived. Each building tells the story through an audio recording. Anne Lee pound is part of the walk and behind it there are easy trails. It is like a mini oasis in the city, right next to the airport and behind wolf road one of the main streets in Colonie. Old brick buildings full of history, the gift shop sell traditional items and in the summer they have outdoor theater and art and craft fairs.

Updated 6/11/25 for corrections after the facility commented. Interesting to see what's left of the Shaker Community facilities. The reconstructed Meeting House (2006) is one if three building one can visit. It has historical displays and a video in one of the rooms. During the fall, the Heritage Society hosts a craft and arts fair over many days. These fairs are good times to visit. Parking is on gravel lots. Entrance is up the ramp at the far side of the building (i.e. second parking lot one comes to) and exit is out the front. There is a restroom. This facility is a great place to learn about the impacts of one of the most innovative utopian communal living communities that made a home in NY state north of NYC. The history of these communities in NYS is fascinating.

Great space to walk around in any weather. They also have art shows and other events. Have been coming here for a while and it's a great place to bring out of town guests as it is a nice spot to walk around for all ages & abilities! They have craft fairs and many vendors come out, great space!

There's a lot of promise here, but for a city with as lengthy and deep an Irish tradition and heritage, this was pretty disappointing. The gift shop was almost as big as the entire rest of the museum, and even it was nothing to write home about. One consolation is that it is just a few yards away from both the Old English and the Pump Station, two of the best places in town for good beer and tasty food.

Historic Cherry Hill is an 18th-century estate that offers a glimpse into five generations of family life through its art, furnishings, clothes, and documents. Built in 1787 for the Van Rensselaer family, it stands as a significant landmark in Albany's history. After being bequeathed to the state of New York by the last descendant, Emily Rankin, it opened as a museum in 1964.
I was given a nice tour inside the mansion by a nice tour guide Mariya. I have seen amazing painted portraits of the family members that lived in the mansion. They had servants. One of them was a young black girl who once ran away from the mansion when she was 16 years old. Anyways, I had a nice experience being there, and hope you all have the same thing. 😄
Ashley M — Google review
Cherry Hill Historic Site is a unique historic mansion in Albany, NY. It is a Georgian style manor that was built in the 18th century. The house belonged to the Van Rensselaer family and originally sat on hundreds of acres of land owned by the family. Several generations of the family owned the house until the 1960’s, when it was donated and turned into a museum. The house has many of the original furnishings in it from many different generations of the Van Rensselaer family. The house tour was very informational and the guides provided the details of how the house was changed and was used over the years. The guides also told the stories of the slaves and servants who lived in the house as well. Much of the tour focused on Catherine Van Rensselaer who owned the house in parts of the 19th and 20th centuries. Interestingly enough a murder did occur at Cherry Hill in the 1800’s when a drifter named Jesse Strang killed John Whipple, who lived in the house. Call ahead or check the website for tours and hours. The mansion is easy to find and there is a small parking area in front of the house. Tickets are available for purchase at the door. Currently, the mansion is running an exhibit called “The World Of James Knapp: Exploring Black Life in 19th Century Albany Through Art, Objects, and Spaces.” If you’re interested in the history of the Albany Capital Region area this is a good place to check out

Opalka Gallery is known for its exceptional exhibitions and public programs of high quality. This art gallery serves as a valuable community partner, hosting various events and screenings for other organizations in Albany. The dedicated staff at Opalka Gallery work tirelessly to provide visitors with an enriching experience. Notably, they recently presented a thought-provoking program that simulated the integration of refugees into Utica, New York. In addition to this, there is a similar group in Albany that undertakes comparable efforts.
The art exhibit was not only creative and thought provoking but it also was educational as well. Went to the Beer Garden event the final one for September and definitely will be visiting the gallery in the future. Got a screen print handkerchief that I helped make with the assistance of the screen print making staff who were friendly and awesome. I enjoyed both Buggy Jive Super 400, as well as the venue which offered great food and beverages with a backyard feel. The problem was that the crowd was the rudest imaginable to the artist and other guests by talking excessively! Were they required to attend due to a relationship with Russel Sage or other organization? It appeared that for many, the event was “required fun”. I sat near one group that never stopped talking, except in between songs, maybe to catch their breath, then at the end of the first performance, had the audacity to give a standing ovation. I really tried to get into the music, but kept being interrupted by professional looking adults acting like spoiled children.

SandiLyn H — Google review
Art gallery attached to Russell Sage college. Used for student and community exhibitions. No fee. Clean bathroom. Parking. I stopped by for the exhibition on maps. It was very artsy...but I'm not very artsy so I was underwhelmed. By the time you read this, the exhibition may have changed And you are a different person than I. Go and support the arts! (Even if you are not an artsy person)

High quality exhibitions and public programs. And a wonderful community partner, hosting events and screenings for other Albany organizations. They have a terrific staff!

Performing arts theater
Theater always depends on the cast, the director, the sets, and other elements. The Minutes was great on all aspects and going to the venue makes you part of the family. One element is the script that tells the story. This is a great script with a huge twist that gives deep meaning to the play. The cast was filled with old friends who excel at this craft. They are professionals who take theater very seriously. These are people who wake up in the middle of the night and jot down notes on their character. It was a good time.

This is a small and vintage theater with lots of heart. It is obvious as soon as you walk in the door and the people helping in the ticket booth, as the ticket taker, ushers, and concessions (water bottles and candy bars) are very passionate about their theater and it's productions. The acting was really good and the play was well blocked and directed. There is not a bad seat in the house. I'm getting season tickets (4 shows for the price of 3) for next year.

Saw Jesus Hopped The A Train this afternoon. The cast was superb! Very well done. I was sorry there was not an opportunity to tell the actors how impressed I was. Each did great jobs.

Great show! Driving Miss Daisy. Actors and production were all great. Parking is definitely a low point.

Warning...this is a review for your BOX OFFICE! I give you 5 stars for what was just the BEST box office call EVER. The woman who answered (wish I has asked her name!) was friendly and professional and quick as lightening. Now is that too much to ask of ANY Box Office. Very pleasant speaking voice, too. Sincerely, Chris Howard written at 5:55 pm, November 14, 2015

Do not miss Grand Concourse! Excellent play, terrific acting and the set is just about perfect. Just $18 for one hour and 45 minutes of superlative theater!
ELENA O — Google review
This theatre is across from my family's home and I just want to compliment those theatre goers they are always so polite and kind, despite the limited parking spaces. I hope to go inside and see for myself some time.

The Magician Illusionist show was spectacular, the whole family loooved the magic, comedy and sparkling personalities - thank you, Jeffrey Jene and the Theater.

Episcopal church
St. Peter's Church is a stunning French Gothic-style Episcopal church with a rich history dating back to 1717. The current building, constructed in 1859, features a tower, buttresses, and beautiful stained-glass windows. The church has been an important landmark for the Anglican community in the region. Visitors praise the historic architecture and the warm, friendly congregation.
We attended on Sunday morning and absolutely loved the sermon by a lay pastor. Coffee hour afterwards was open and delightful. Have a family connection from decades ago.

Beautiful sermons, beautiful church, fantastic chior, these guys go above and beyond to make new comers feel welcome. There is a real community within.

Amazing church in downtown Albany. A must see!
Sophie K — Google review
A gorgeous historic church that will take your breath away. The rector and associate priest are truly wonderful and caring people. The music is sublime. St. Peter's offers something a bit unique. In addition to regular Holy Communion, St. Peter's is one of the few Episcopal Churches in the area that does a traditional choral Morning Prayer service.

I was in a very, very dark state last week and I had all intentions of self-destructing myself because of the emotional pain. I passed by St. Peter's Episcopal Church after getting off the bus and I usually don't feel called to enter churches because I'm not religious but rather spiritual. However, this beautiful church called out to me and I was propelled to go inside. I was amazed at the beautiful interior and intimate setting of the church and to my luck, the organ player was practicing and the beautiful, haunting music echoed saturated the church. I sat down on the last pew in the back and I immediately began to cry and and pray to God that I be kept safe from myself. I sat there for five minutes and in that solitary moment, I felt peace, comfort and hope. Thank you, St. Peter's Church for having your doors open and keeping me safe from harm.

Went inside to see the architecture. It's beautiful in there. This church has a rich history of which you can read and appreciate inside the church building.

Park
Nestled in the heart of Albany, SUNY Plaza Park, affectionately known as "The Castle" or "D&H Plaza," is a stunning architectural gem that showcases Gothic design elements. Originally built for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad Company, this impressive structure features a striking thirteen-story central tower topped with an 8-foot weathervane inspired by Henry Hudson's iconic ship, the Half Moon.
This was my 1st time visiting Albany and this building is absolutely amazing. Love the architecture very impressive 👏.
