Kunga Restaurant is a charming eatery located on Gandhi Road in Darjeeling, known for its authentic Tibetan cuisine. The restaurant is run by a Tibetan family and offers a cozy atmosphere to enjoy flavorful and comforting thukpa bowls, as well as popular dishes like momos. Visitors may find themselves sharing tables with local monks dressed in traditional robes, adding to the cultural experience.
The best best best food I have ever had!!! This place is being viral for all the right reasons. It’s worth every hype. Their PHING is to die for. We tried so many items from their menu and nothing disappointed us. Each item was better than another. Honestly if you also go to Darjeeling very often like me you should definitely give this place a try. Though you need to remember one thing that their cooking style is very different. More like Nepali and Tibetan style. So if you’re hoping to taste Chinese flavours this is not a place for you. They use very little oil and sauce. Make regional dishes. We loved it. It’s my favourite. ❤️❤️

★★★★☆ 4/5 Had a great experience at Kunga Restaurant! The ambience is warm and inviting with cozy Tibetan decor that gives it a peaceful, authentic feel. Perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing meal. We tried several dishes and loved the flavors. The Chicken Noodles were delicious—well-cooked with tender chicken and a nice balance of spice. The Glass Noodles were light, full of veggies, and had a great texture—ideal if you're in the mood for something less heavy. But the real star was the Chicken Momos—juicy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the spicy chutney. Definitely one of the best momo spots in town. It can get a bit crowded during peak hours, but the overall atmosphere remains pleasant and inviting. Service was decent and the prices were fair. A little more seasoning in a couple of dishes would’ve made it a 5-star experience, but overall, highly recommended!

I recently visited Kunga Restaurant in Darjeeling and enjoyed a hearty Tibetan meal. The place itself is small and tucked away on Gandhi Road, but it has a homely vibe that instantly makes you comfortable. Seating is limited, so it can get a bit crowded, yet the warmth of the staff and the aroma of food create a welcoming atmosphere. I tried their chicken fried rice, chicken noodles, and sweet and sour chicken. The fried rice was flavourful, not oily, and well-balanced with fresh vegetables and tender chicken. The chicken noodles were even better—perfectly cooked with just the right texture, packed with generous portions and a comforting, authentic taste. The highlight for me was the sweet and sour chicken: the sauce had the ideal balance of tangy and slightly sweet notes, coating the crispy chicken beautifully. It felt indulgent yet satisfying. Service was prompt and polite, though with the rush, a little waiting time is expected. Prices are reasonable considering the quality and quantity, making it good value in Darjeeling’s food scene. Overall, Kunga delivers authentic, tasty Tibetan-style dishes with a homely charm. For hearty food lovers, it’s a spot I’d definitely recommend. A solid 4-star experience.
Soumitra M — Google review
I visited Kunga last week and tried the cheese steamed chicken momos – the food was excellent. However, the staff’s behavior was not very welcoming. You’re required to place your entire order at once, as they do not accept additional orders later, which they mention while taking the order. Another drawback is that they only accept cash payments.
Sourav S — Google review
To date, hands down the best mixed fried rice I have tasted here. Usually, people stand in long queues to get a table. When I visited this place, I was able to get a seat in under ten minutes. Indeed, it is one of the best restaurants if anyone is visiting Darjeeling.
Arghya M — Google review
Must try their Noodles/chowmein and momo. Very famous chinese food joint in Darjeeling. Maximum sitting capacity 16 to 18 heads. Be prepare for a long wait outside.
Rohan R — Google review
Rest of the food was delicious in taste. Ordered pork curry and the pork was uncooked. When I gave a feedback about it to the owner lady her reaction was not very impressive. She bluntly said you are the 1st customer complaining about it and it is like this only. It’s not good to eat uncooked pork at all. And the owner should be aware about it. Rather accepting it and giving such blunt replies they must accept it and correct it. Being a famous food joint doesn’t mean they are 100% correct.
Ankush B — Google review
Momos were tasty and wide variety of food on offer. Staff and owners needs to be courteous & customer friendly. Surprisingly restaurant was closed for lunch from 1.00 to 2.00. being a tourist location, people visit hotels for lunch.

Dekevas Restaurant, run by a Tibetan family, is a charming eatery in Darjeeling that offers a delectable mix of Tibetan, Chinese, and Continental cuisine. From comforting porridge to hearty burgers, sandwiches, noodles, and soups, this cozy spot has something for everyone. Whether you're craving vegetarian or non-vegetarian fare, Dekevas provides an array of options at budget-friendly prices.
Dekevas is truly a gem in Darjeeling! The food quality is absolutely top-notch, fresh, flavorful, and served with great care. Their chicken bibimbap bowl and kimchi fried rice is hands down the best I’ve ever had — perfectly balanced, hearty, and bursting with taste. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are attentive and welcoming. A must-visit if you’re in Darjeeling and want authentic, delicious food.
Pratibha P — Google review
Visited Dekevas Restaurant after hearing great reviews, but the Dragon Chicken Bao didn’t meet expectations. The bao was soft and nicely made, but the filling was overly sweet — lacked the spicy, balanced flavor I hoped for. Good ambience and service, but this dish was a letdown.
Gaurav ( — Google review
I visited Dekevas in September 2025 and tried the Chicken Japanese Ramen (₹280) and Chicken Steamed Momos (8 pieces – ₹170). The quality and quantity were satisfying, and the taste was quite authentic. Overall, I was happy with the food and would definitely recommend visiting. The restaurant is conveniently located in a prominent spot – just beside Kunga Restaurant and opposite Kev's. The seating area is a bit congested, but it gives off a cozy, homely vibe, much like a friendly family gathering in the hills. A nice place to enjoy authentic flavors in Darjeeling.
Pritam B — Google review
I was intrigued by the Korean word “식당” on the sign, so I decided to check this place out. The restaurant offers a variety of Korean and Tibetan dishes. I ordered the pork bibimbap, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The meat was tough and had a strong smell. One of the vegetables possibly carrot was extremely salty, to the point that I could feel texture of actual salt crystals, making it hard to finish the meal. If the server or the owner asked why I left the food unfinished, I would have gladly shared my thoughts in person. I feel a bit sorry to leave this feedback in a review instead, but I hope it’s taken as constructive.
Donggeon K — Google review
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The service was extremely slow and the staff seemed completely unattentive. The food was mediocre at best, but the most serious issue was finding multiple hairs in our chicken momos. It was an unacceptable and clear sign of poor kitchen hygiene. Between the bad service and the unsanitary food, we definitely will not be returning. I would advise others to dine elsewhere.
Triashis R — Google review
This small eatery is very popular and needs no introduction. The place being small has a waiting time which depends on the time one is visiting. Has few tables but the food is served hot and fresh. It's affordable and pocket friendly. The people serving are also very warm. Would definitely visit again.
Piali S — Google review
It’s a cute little place on the Mall Road . Food is amazing and very authentic and true to the taste! Service is quick and easy ! Food is prepared pretty quickly and served hot ! We tried the bibimbap the first time and it was amazing .
Apoorva G — Google review
Very good food. Clean and cozy. Variety of noodles, fried rice, gluten free glass noodle, shapta, bao. Cooked in Tibetan, Korean with local flavours added. Meats contain chicken, pork and beef — you can have your choice. The open kitchen gives you a glimpse of what food they are preparing for you. Reasonably priced. Note of caution: Payment only by cash, no cards or UPI. Digital India doesn’t work here. 😀

*Since 1885 ( 149 years of legacy) * Open air sitting with amazing view * 3 floors : Basement pub, ground bakery and first restaurant, each with an unique charm. Above statements summarises thelis establishment which stood the test of time. Oh wait. I must say test of centuries of time. In the bakery section, you need to take a basket, pick your items and bill them. You can either eat there or get it packed. If you're eating there, they'll give you some plates. You can use the microwaves at the corner, heat the food , take a table and enjoy the view. The table also has on spot ordering, the menu of which is seperate. It gets routes through WhatsApp and you'll receive the order within minutes. Go there for the experience and delicious food.

Glenary's restaurant cum bar is my most favourite places to hang out in Darjeeling. They have branch in Siliguri but I never visited. I always visit the place whenever I am in Darjeeling. Quality of food, ambiance, behaviour of staffs and the bakery as well makes me happy in a true sense. I recommend this place for dinner whoever visit Darjeeling. Even couples can enjoy their best time here. The viral post of taking pictures with the Hope in Darjeeling is a new trend but for me, Glenary's is for enjoying dinner, especially pork, chicken, beer and wine. The ultimate place to make the Darjeeling trip memorable.

Glenary’s Bakery is one of the oldest and most iconic bakeries in India! 🧁 It has an amazing variety of bakery items — we loved the patties, Danish pastry, and donuts, and their Berline is a must-try. There are so many delicious options to choose from. Though it was a bit crowded, everything was well-organized. The self-service setup with microwaves to heat your food is a great touch. A must-visit spot in Darjeeling for all bakery lovers!
Suvi K — Google review
Glenary's is a historic gem that lives up to its reputation. The moment you step inside, the ambiance takes you back in time with its classic decor and cozy feel. The real highlight, however, is the food. The bakery items are fresh and delicious, with a special mention for their pastries and pies. The upstairs restaurant offers great continental dishes with a fantastic view of the mountains. My daughter especially loved the breathtaking view, making our visit even more special. The food is simply delicious. We especially enjoyed the cakes and the Biryani, which was perfectly up to the mark. Even the chili pork added a delicious kick. It was a wonderful dining experience, and we ate very well there enjoying the view. The service was prompt and the staff were friendly. While the prices are a bit higher than other local spots, the quality and overall experience make it well worth it. It’s an essential stop for anyone visiting Darjeeling.

Nawangs Restaurant is a cozy, unassuming eatery tucked away behind Kevs in Darjeeling. With an open kitchen and just four tables, it exudes a humble, old-fashioned charm. The menu features Nepali and Tibetan dishes like chicken momo, egg chowmein, and pork curry. Visitors rave about the melt-in-your-mouth pork curry and well-cooked chili pork. The warm hospitality of the owners adds to the homely atmosphere.
This is a restaurant where you can feel relaxed and relaxed. It's a small shop with four tables, and although it has an old-fashioned atmosphere, you can feel the cleanliness. There is an English menu. Tibetan and Indian cuisine. Chicken and lamb too. I probably can't drink alcohol. Tibetan Buddhist reliefs are modestly displayed, giving it a simple and nice atmosphere. The female owner is kind and maintains a reasonable distance. Darjeeling milk tea is delicious. (20 rupees) On the day I visited, it was closed at 8:30 pm. A small, cozy eatery. Though the space is quite small, only four tables and assorted chairs with them. The owner is quite humble and well behaved. Just stumbled upon it during a lazy afternoon while roaming the streets of Darjeeling. Had a long talk with the owner while eating. Ordered Pork Thukpa and Chicken Thukpa. The food was delicious, amount of meat in the Chowmein was adequate. They offer trekking tours as well, bounced back some ideas regarding that too. The trekking tours offered by them are both in West Bengal as well as in Sikkim. It was a small food joint where Nepali and Tibetan foods were available, we tried their chicken momo, egg chowmein, egg fried rice, dry chilli chicken, chilli pork dry and pork curry. The foods were beyond expectation! One of the best pork curry I tried there, the pieces just melted in my mouth it was too yummy, chili pork was very well cooked and equally delicious, dry chilli chicken was a bit different from other places, I liked it very much, and lastly the momo was also excellent. I would love to recommend this place to everyone who like to try good food in cheap price in Darjeeling. If you can ignore the ambience this is one of the best place to have Nepali and Tibetan Dishes. The owners were very very welcoming and also friendly. Really liked the place. Hope to meet you soon.

We were drawn in by the retro-style exterior, but overall, the food was a bit disappointing. In particular, the chicken momo had pieces of ground chicken bone in it, so my friend and I had to stop after just a couple of bites and unfortunately couldn’t finish it. The thukpa reminded me of a Korean-style radish leaf soup (시래깃국) which I personally enjoyed, but those unfamiliar with its herbal aroma might find it a bit off putting. The fried noodles were okay. The owners were kind and the atmosphere was nice, but sadly, I wouldn’t be able to strongly recommend this place to others.

Chicken momo was soft, moist and served hot. Dada was polite and friendly. It was nice having food from here. Also had fried rice and chilli chicken but did not like the taste of both. Fried rice was bland and chilli chicken was not spicy at all.

It’s a hidden gem in Darjeeling. If you want to try something different than popular restaurant then it’s worth the try. Very small and cozy place. Owner of this restaurant is very sweet and most importantly the food is delicious.. Must try: chicken/pork momo, thukpa, shaphalley. Pocket pinch 600-800/- for two

Absolutely loved my visit to Nawang Restaurant in Darjeeling, right near Mall Road. This little gem packs a big punch in flavor and warmth. First the vibe: the space is cozy and compact, but somehow it feels instantly like home. It’s the kind of place where you’re greeted with friendly smiles, and the intimate seating makes every dining moment feel personal and relaxed. Don’t be put off by the size—the atmosphere is charming and incredibly inviting. Now the food: authentic Tibetan at its best. Each bite carries a comforting, authentic taste that reminded me of home-cooked meals, but with a distinctive hill-town twist. We tried the chicken curry with roti and rice, and it was a perfect balance of spice, depth, and tenderness. The chicken momo is a must-try—succulent filling, perfect steam, and a flavor that defines the “forever favorite” status for many locals and visitors alike. If you’re in Darjeeling and craving truly tasty, comforting Tibetan dishes, this is the place to go. The quality of the ingredients and the generous portions make you feel you’re getting authentic value. Highly recommend going for their momo and the chicken curry—you’ll leave with a happy belly and a smile. Short version for a quick post: Nawang, near Mall Road, Darjeeling — tiny, cozy, and absolutely homely. Authentic Tibetan flavors that hit the spot. Must-try: chicken momo and chicken curry with roti/rice. Highly recommended!

Sonam's Kitchen, nestled on a serene street in Darjeeling, is a beloved cafe renowned for its hearty breakfasts and top-notch coffee. This family-owned gem, operating for over 13 years, offers a cozy and intimate setting perfect for a relaxed morning. With just three seating arrangements, the space exudes warmth and authenticity.
It’s a small eatery on Dr. Zakir Hussain Road famous for its breakfast platters, brunch and cozy environment. I tried their Breakfast platters of Hash Brown, Scrambled Egg, Cheese & Bread Toast. The combination is absolutely amazing. I have ordered a Darjeeling Black Tea & Cheese Omelette separately, both were tasty. The owner was very welcoming. We chatted a lot about the local cuisines. It’s a must visit for those who love the proper English Cuisine.

cute place with a western crowd. little pricier than some of the other local places but a good meal nevertheless, owner couple seemed very sweet. only reason i’m taking one star away is the price and the fact that i’m usually full and satisfied for a long time after having porridge but ended up still being hungry and getting samosas after this one! taste was good though.

A pretty cute food outlet with limited seating arrangement has been serving great hospitality for around 20 years. The foods served here are simple but tasty. The hash brown is their main attraction and it tastes great with their special cheese. The toast is toasted in a crispy way and it matches perfectly with scrambled egg and butter. The coffee was also strong and stimulates the taste buds. In a nutshell, they serve good food and overcome their shortfalls with their hearty and warm behavior.

Sonam serves delicious continental breakfast such as banana pancakes, whole grain brown toast, oatmeal with cashews and raisins and honey, lemon, ginger tea. Her guesthouse, just up the hill, is a truly comfortable, private homestay experience with a private hot shower, queen size bed and a sunny terrace with large windows and a pleasant hill top breeze. Beautiful views of the Queen of the Hills can be enjoyed with both sunrise and sunset in the same location. If you are looking for a true family feel with a great vibe, look nowhere else. With loving kindness, Johnny

Thanks to the energetic owner, I had a cheerful and enjoyable meal. I was lucky to arrive when it wasn’t busy, so my food came out fairly quickly. However, please note that the owner handles both the kitchen and the front of house alone, so there might be some wait during peak hours. The toasted bread served with the breakfast was especially delicious. But the true highlight here is the Darjeeling tea. make sure to give it a try! The aroma is incredibly rich and the balance is unlike anything I’ve had before.

A Breakfast Haven in Darjeeling! Sonam’s Kitchen is an absolute gem and a must-visit eatery in Darjeeling. We had a breakfast here that was nothing short of perfect — fulfilling, sumptuous and cooked with so much love. The highlight was their authentic mocha pot coffee, rich and aromatic, which complemented the meal beautifully. The place itself is small and cozy, with a warm, inviting vibe. What makes it even more special is the lovely couple who run it. With 27 years of passion poured into this kitchen, they give personal attention to every guest, making you feel right at home. Located on Dr. Zakir Hussain Road, it’s an easy walk from Chowrasta (Chowk). If you’re in Darjeeling, don’t miss this delightful little spot — it’s the kind of place that stays with you long after the trip ends.

The Park Restaurant in Darjeeling, situated on Laden La road, is a unique establishment run by Deep, a former musician turned restaurateur. This popular eatery offers authentic North Indian dishes like chicken tikka masala and curries, as well as Thai delicacies such as chicken coconut soup and papaya salad. The restaurant's simple yet inviting ambiance has made it a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike.
There are various famous food joints and restaurants in Darjeeling serving delicious and awesome food. Many of them are located near the mall road. And among them, although a little less known among tourists, The Park restaurant is a very good dining restaurant serving really good and tasty food. It is located very near to the Darjeeling Clock Tower on the downhill road. The ambience and interiors are quite nice and they serve a variety of food items. Price is medium and the staffs are courteous. Overall its a nice restaurant and a must visit for tourists visiting this beautiful hill town ❤️❤️

Ambiance is pretty good, setting area is also huge. We ordered manchow soup for starters. Soup was very basic. At the main course we ordered chicken fried rice & hot garlic chicken. Chicken fried rice : Rice was half cooked, lack of salt and taste was pretty basic. Hot garlic chicken : Gravy is not near to hot garlic, it's over sweeter and no taste of garlic flavour. Chicken was halfed before putting in the gravy.

Before coming to the food, let's talk about the restaurant. The interior is very traditional Asian looking with beautiful sculptures and paintings. The atmosphere is warm and chill. There is plenty of space for people and the restaurant is of two floors. You can take a lot of pics here. The service was fast, like our entire food came in 25-30 mins. The restaurant is very well-maintained, hygienic and clean. The food here is very simple. The prices are a little expensive than normal, but the taste makes it worth it. Coming to the food, the thumbs up tasted exactly like the thumbs up. The paneer chilli dry was very crispy and tasty. The paneer was fresh and it was perfectly coated. The crispy corn was crispy, juicy and also very simple, loved it. The presentation of the burnt garlic rice was nice, the taste was very simple and tasted best with the Manchurian gravy. But the dish I liked the most was the Chicken Ramen. You get Saucy Ramen with Fried Chicken, Cheese and Exotic vegetables. It was very unique and tasted brilliant. Overall, it was a great experience. Of you wanna try some authentic Asian food then you can definitely give this place a try. The staff is also very friendly. And do try the Ramen. Recimmended ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I recently visited The Park Restaurant in Darjeeling, and while it was a decent experience, there were a few things that could be improved. The restaurant has a cozy ambiance, and the service was friendly enough, but it didn’t stand out as exceptional. The food was good, but the portion sizes were quite small for the prices they charge. Given the rates, I expected more generous servings. The flavors were fine, but nothing that particularly wowed me. It’s an okay place if you're looking for a quick meal, but I felt it lacked the value for money that other places in Darjeeling offer.

Known for its Chinese and Thai food, its right opposite the landmark Clock Tower and its bright red hues of Chinese food won’t let you miss this restaurant. It has two floors and ample seating. It used to offer mountain views however, due to recent constructions it is not the case anymore. The staff here is friendly. The restaurant serves alcohol and has a decent bar menu. We had a couple of drinks here along with a Crispy Corn appetizer and Thai Street Style Veg Noodles with sauce.

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE Went for dinner after seeing a few reviews that North Indian food is good. However, starting from staff behaviour to food everything was absolute dismal. They gave me a "half table" just beside the waste collection bin on the other side (see the attached video and photo). When I asked the waiter to adjust the table, he rudely stated that it would block their passage, where as there was a lot of space. I asked them to even shift me to an another table but they refused. The staff lacks professionalism, comeone man you are in a service industry. Coming to food, I ordered briyani, the moment I did I knew it was a blunder, given the place and restaurant type. But still that was not even 1% of what a briyani should be. They literally fried rice with chicken in a lot of oil, pathetic. Never going back nor would I recommend. If the manager is reading this, please take notes you are in service industry and in service people matter a lot.

Penang Restaurant is a long-standing establishment in Darjeeling, serving authentic Nepali cuisine along with Tibetan and Chinese dishes. Despite its unassuming entrance, the interior offers a polished and artsy ambiance. The spacious seating area and friendly staff contribute to the overall welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant's signature dishes include Chilli Chicken Noodles and Coriander Fried Rice, which are highly recommended.
Visited Penang after nearly 5 years. The decor and interior has improved. The food was awesome as usual. Still one of the best places for Chinese food in Darj. Loved the Chilli pork. The chow and fried rice was delicious too. Special mention for the American Chpp Suey, though it could be a too sweet for some palettes. Al in all great food.

Located in a slightly congested area on a narrow alley where you need to climb about a few stairs. Location is nothing impressive. I had lunch with my familt at this restaurant. We were a group of three and it was a week day and mid Jan being off-season Being a week day lunch time, there was enough seats available. We were greeted at the gate and chose our seat. We ordered Fresh Lime Soda(₹70), Crispy Pork Cellari (₹320), Cantonese Chicken rice noodle (₹ 220 ), Chicken Grlic Fried rice(₹ 230) and Chicken Chilli Dry (₹ 350). Quantity of the preparations was descent. Pork was the best of the lot, nicely crispy with chopped Onions and capsicum. Other dishes are as usual, nothing special. Service was good. You may try if you are visiting Darjeeling.

Mainly a Nepali restaurant serving a variety of dishes with preference to Nepali cuisines. They have a number of famous pork dishes (although we didn't try any). Tried their Chicken Momos. Disappointed as per Darjeeling standards. Just an average one. A bit costly vis a vis quality and quantity
Jamwant Y — Google review
Penang restaurant is famous for the nepali thali. We ordered chicken thali and veg thali. The chicken thali had local chicken curry which was very tasty. The special dish was their gundruk which is a fermented leafy vegetable prepared like a soup. Really tasty. Service was prompt as well. Ambience honestly is nothing to talk about but it was clean. Cost was four hundred per person.

Good food, good service. Well managed restaurant with tasty food. Get your fill of the local food 😋 I tried pork momos, chicken momos, chicken hakka noodles and pork fry. Only the pork fry was oily but the food was tasty and filling.

One of the gem in darjeeling.Neat and clean restaurant kitchen. Food is Nepali and traditional style . I took fish and it was really good .The momo was good . Our team took mutton thali and chicken thali . If you are looking for bengali style mutton chicken , you will be disappointed. Their mutton pieces are with fatty skin , in every bowl of mutton they give chusta or similar piece. Overall a great restaurant, which has options for exotic Nepali food and options like fish for people like me

One might call this place a hidden gem. A little walk down the mall road towards Darjeeling station this won't be the first choice of many who go by outside appearances. Inside, however, this place is comfortably decked with a laidback charm and gentle instrumentals. The food is scrumptious and the bar menu is decent as per the price tag. The crowd mostly is local though one never feels out of joint. Penang should be among the top priorities for those who want to experience Darjeeling as it actually is, unadorned with all artificialities, resplendent with her own beautiful people, music and food.
Krishanu B — Google review
We came here a few years ago and loved the thali. But this time around it felt like the food quality had gone down. The meat was not very tender and the caramel custard was grainy. It wasn't the same experience as we had earlier which had drawn us to this place.

Nestled behind a bustling taxi stand on Ladenla Road, Dafey Munal Restro Cum Bar is a hidden gem that has been delighting locals for years. This charming eatery offers an impressive selection of Indian, Chinese, and Tibetan dishes, making it a go-to spot for diverse palates. We had come from kolkata on 29.5.25 and now we are staying in a very dirty condition. When we entered our room the bedsheet was oil stained, it was not changed and our room was not cleaned before our arrival. The pillow cover and blanket cover were torn and stained, we had to tell them to change the things. The carpet was too dirty and flies kept coming in our room. The room was very dirty and unorganised. The attitude of one of the staffs was very ill-mannered. I don't suggest anyone to stay here and waste their money and precious holidays in this hotel and to be honest this hotel doesn't even deserve one star

Established in 1967, Gang Jong Restaurant is a cozy and minimalist eatery located in Darjeeling. Known for serving some of the most delicious momos in town, this restaurant offers authentic Tibetan cuisine that has garnered a loyal following over the years. Despite its age, the restaurant continues to attract patrons with its amiable owner and pocket-friendly prices.
A small but quaint place serving some delicious food. We had the steamed momos and laphing. The two chutneys were amazing and service was fast. Lots of local folks were eating compare to tourists at all other places. You gotta try this when you are in Darjeeling
Maruti B — Google review
This restaurant has a warm and welcoming owner, delicious food, and a wonderful Tibetan atmosphere. Despite being located on a street popular with travelers, the prices remain very reasonable. Except for my table, all the other guests were local Tibetans, which made the experience feel even more authentic. I’ve visited many cities, but the laphing I had here was the best I’ve ever tasted. It’s been a few weeks since my visit, but I still miss it! If I ever return to Darjeeling, I’ll definitely come back here again.

A Timeless Gem in the Heart of Darjeeling! Gang Jong Restaurant, serving since 1967, is a true culinary landmark. The authentic Tibetan and Nepali dishes bring out the rich local flavors in every bite. The ambience is warm and nostalgic, with vintage decor that reflects its long-standing legacy. The staff is courteous, and service is prompt and friendly. If you're exploring Darjeeling, this place is not just a meal—it's an experience. A perfect blend of heritage, taste, and tradition. Absolutely disgusting. The meat was stale, smelly, and barely edible — I’m genuinely praying I don’t end up sick. Cats were jumping on tables and the owners found it amusing, showing zero sense of hygiene or professionalism. This place is a health hazard — avoid at all costs.

Wonderful new spot on the map of Darjeeling. Very friendly service and delicious cuisine. Highly recommend to try local tongba. Even though location on the 3rd floor may be discouraging I recommend climbing up. It was definitely one of best meals in nice atmosphere of all the places that I have had pleasure to visit.

The ambience was lovely. The owner and staffs are very friendly and cool. You must try the nepali thali, we tried the superhot nepali chilli. But what you must definitely try is the traditional nepali drink 'Tongba', a millet based alcoholic beverage. The rates are reasonable and this is close to the Mall.

Really good food prepared with love. You can tell that this place is different from the myriad restaurants in Darjeeling out to make money off of tourists. The brothers who run the place put their heart and soul into the place. Chicken momo and Nepali Thali recommended. Didn’t get to try the Mutton Thali which is only available on Sundays but that should also be great. The location very hidden for tourists and I had to phone them to show me where the show is. I think they will get more customers if they move their location for sure, but maybe in the future.

Fast food restaurant
Nestled in a cozy corner, Kalden Cafe Tibetan Fast Food is a small but delightful eatery run by a Tibetan family. The tantalizing scent of thukpa, flavorful dumplings, and aromatic noodles wafts through the air. Each dish offers an authentic taste of Tibetan cuisine at very affordable prices. Despite its compact seating area, the food's exceptional quality makes it well worth a visit.
Going down the tail end of mall road, you'll find several shops selling food, clothes, tea, lottery tickets, you name it. It's a bustling street on weekdays and weekends that feels strangely empty when the crowd is reduced even a little bit. Some of these shops have closed doors and shuttered windows with holes for food, and some of them are wide open with inviting samples kept behind glass. And then there's Kalden's: a small shop with a red signboard, unpretentious, unassuming, beautiful. The owner sits out front on his chair, welcoming you with a smile. Talking to him and his wife is half the fun of visiting this place - they are people with good humour, lots of knowledge and lots of tips for you to explore around Darjeeling and neighbouring areas. They'll even tell you what dishes to try if you want to go beyond the usual momos or thukpa - both are great, in fact the best momos in Darjeeling by a long shot, and an incredibly flavorful thukpa - but there's a lot more to Tibetan cuisine than that, and Kalden's is a great representation of it. I tried Syafale and it was delicious. You can't get it more authentic or more tasty than here. I'm left with a very distinct image of this place - while I was having some great food after an afternoon of exhaustion, some school kids clamoured by the front window. "Ae baccha log, chocolate, toffee, chocolate lelo!" the owner greeted them with his hearty belly laugh. In short: you come to Kalden's for the authentic and delicious food, and you leave with joy in your heart. Can't rave enough about this place.

We tried hand made pasta 'Kauri' and Noodles. The taste was okay, we ate kauri soup. Kauri pasta may taste better, I felt. Noodle was good. Cafe owner and his wife were very friendly and nice people.

Kalden Café is a small, cozy café tucked along Zakir Hussain Road, mostly frequented by locals who appreciate its homely charm and authentic flavors. With limited seating capacity, it may not be ideal for large groups, but it’s perfect for a quiet, satisfying meal. The café is run by the warm and welcoming couple—Kalden and his wife—whose friendly nature adds a personal touch to the experience. The momos and thukpa here are local favorites, offering great taste at affordable prices. Apart from serving food, the café also sells raw noodles, flat noodles, phing (glass noodles), and a selection of Korean noodles—great for those wanting to cook at home. If you’re looking for a humble, authentic spot with heart, Kalden Café is well worth a visit while in Darjeeling.

Best tibetan home style food in Darjeeling. Only problem is they are often closed without notice. Do try if you find them open. Must try: Kima bun, momo, thukpa, rice-curry Beef items are best.
Ritwik B — Google review
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kalden Cafe and it was an experience I won't soon forget. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with warm smiles and an inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, eager to explain the various dishes and make recommendations. As for the food, it was nothing short of exceptional. I started with the momos, which were perfectly steamed and bursting with flavor. The accompanying dipping sauces added a delightful kick. For my main course, I tried the Thukpa, a hearty noodle soup that was both comforting and delicious, with a rich, savory broth and tender, flavorful pieces of meat. What truly stood out was the attention to detail and authenticity in every dish. The ingredients were fresh, and the spices were perfectly balanced, providing a genuine taste of Tibetan cuisine. The portions were generous and the presentation was impeccable. To finish off the meal, I indulged in a piece of Tibetan that was the perfect end to a perfect meal. Overall, Kalden Cafe offers an exceptional dining experience that transports you straight to the heart of Tibet. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore new flavors or simply enjoy a delicious meal in a warm and welcoming environment. I will definitely be returning soon!

Darjeeling street food is a delightful culinary adventure that every traveler should embark on. Renowned for its mouthwatering specialties, this vibrant scene features iconic dishes like momo dumplings and aloo dum, alongside an array of fried noodles, rice, and savory snacks such as bread pakodas and spicy samosas.

During my recent visit to Darjeeling, I had the pleasure of exploring the vibrant and exciting street food scene of this beautiful town. One of the most memorable experiences I had was eating Chowmein late at night, surrounded by the bustling energy of the town. It was well past midnight when my friends and I decided to go out and explore the streets of Darjeeling. Despite the late hour, we were surprised to find that the town was still alive and buzzing with activity. Street vendors were still open, and the smells of delicious food filled the air. We stumbled upon a small street vendor selling Chowmein and decided to give it a try. As we stood there, eating the steaming hot noodles under the dim streetlights, we were struck by the energy and vibrancy of the town. People were still out and about, enjoying the night and each other's company. What I loved most about the experience was how the street food brought people together. We were standing there, eating alongside locals and travelers alike, all of us united in our love of delicious food and the excitement of the town at night. The Chowmein itself was fantastic, with perfectly cooked noodles and a delicious blend of spices and vegetables. But what really made the experience special was the atmosphere and energy of the town. It was a reminder that food is not just about sustenance, but also about community and connection.
