Pub
Restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque village of Austwick, The Game Cock Inn is a beloved traditional country pub renowned for its delectable British fare with a delightful French and Mediterranean influence. This charming establishment offers a versatile menu featuring classic dishes like fish and chips, fisherman's pie, succulent steaks, and an assortment of hearty burgers. Guests can revel in the inviting ambiance of the classic pub interior or unwind in the expansive beer garden.
Lovely location and great food - they fitted us in for a quick meal despite being fully booked for the evening. Delicious fish and chips arrived very quickly, definitely worth booking as others arriving not long after us (5:30pm on a Friday) were turned away.
Mike W — Google review
This was not our original choice but we decided to try somewhere new. It is located a bit off the beaten track but not difficult to get to. Parking is on the roadside and you can either end up a few hundred yards away or, if you are lucky, next to the pub. We were a large group of four adults and five children and were given two little comfortable rooms separated by a couple of steps in this historic and intimate pub. The menu is interesting, varied and not expensive with something for everyone. There is also a separate menu for those with gluten related disorders. We tried a variety of options and loved all of them, in particular I had the “sea crumble” special and it was delicious, plus I sampled a couple of pints from their choice of real ales. All of the children enjoyed their meals and finished most of it. The 14 year old, who can eat for England, couldn’t eat all of his pizza so that tells you something about the portion size! Unusual for a pub but there is also a small bakery on the premises with some of the most amazing pastries. Some of these goodies were purchased for eating at home. All of the staff are friendly, attentive and helpful to ensure you enjoy your time there. We can’t wait to go again. Thank you all at the Black Cock
Neal H — Google review
Fantastically accommodating with great service. It's a lovely old building with lots of small rooms, a bakery and bar squeezed in. We arrived on a Friday evening at about 6pm without booking. Although the place was packed and booked out, we were offered an outdoor table and main meals only, very fair I think. The food was delicious and the beer was great. The village is tiny with very limited parking close to the pub, but a few minutes walk down the road are usually lots of spaces. Lovely pub.
David — Google review
The room we had was bright, clean and tidy but the bed had seen better days and had a few other niggles.. Staff are great; food and drink good and tasty; not too expensive.. Location in Austwick is lovely but may feel isolated to some.
Michael P — Google review
The best meal we have had in a long time. This place is a hidden gem, amazing food, good portion sizes and attentive service. Well worth visiting if you are in the area. 5 🌟
Jonathan N — Google review
The food here was absolutely fantastic. Staff also great. Took time to recommend options from the menu and table service for drinks etc. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Excellent food, great atmosphere, attentive staff and friendly welcome in a fantastic location. What more can you ask for. Went for a family Sunday lunch for 11 people came away very impressed. As they say we will be back.
Jill C — Google review
We went in for lunch, just on the off chance, and found it to be a most excellent pub. The service is extremely friendly, the food outstanding and the place is very comfortable. We hope to return next time we’re in the area.

Inn
The Queens Arms is a classic 17th-century pub located in Litton, near the famous Malham Cove. The pub offers quaint rooms, a bar, and a chic restaurant serving seasonal fare. With its stone walls, roaring fireplace, and low ceilings, it exudes quintessential British charm. The menu features homely dishes such as pies, fish and chips, and weekly steak specials made with locally sourced produce.
As you'd expect in deepest Yorkshire, a really friendly pub & the pies were amazing. Just what was needed before tackling the three peaks the following day. If we're ever in the area again, definitely be paying a visit. Booking recommended
Helen F — Google review
What a wonderful little pub. The location is very quaint and picturesque. Lots of walks around so the pub is a great place to start or finish a walk. The food is second to none and it’s easy to see why to pies are award winning. I can vouch for the steak and blue cheese pie with chunky chips and peas.
Rob M — Google review
A return visit to the Queens Arms and it didn’t disappoint. The newly refurbished room was comfortable and well appointed with lovely views and the beer and food were fantastic. Cheryl and David, who were covering for the regular hosts, made our stay very enjoyable and lots of fun. A real jewel in the Litton valley.
Stephen Y — Google review
We had the most delightful stay at the Queens Arms. I was hoping for a traditional, quintessentially Yorkshire inn - and it did not disappoint. Our room was cosy, the ale from their brewery was divine, the landlady was absolutely lovely, and the food was INSANE. We both had a pie and we were in heaven. Don’t think I’ve been that happy since our wedding day.
Rachel L — Google review
The Queens Arms in Litton is a lovely pub with great food and a welcoming atmosphere. The family room was perfect for our family with teenage boys — nice and cool too, which was ideal on the hot summer days we’ve just had!!. The staff were friendly and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable.
S N — Google review
A charming traditional pub offering a good menu of traditional "pub grub" and some excellent chef's specials incorporating fine local produce. Friendly efficient staff, well cooked well presented food in ample portions at value for money prices. We will be back!
Derek W — Google review
This pub is remote in lovely Littondale. We were staying in nearby holiday cottages. The staff are great, friendly and welcoming. There is a micro-brewery in the back yard making Lamb Ale. The pies are to be admired savoured and washed down with the local brew. There are vegetarian, vegan and non-alcoholic alternatives for those I need.
Stuart A — Google review
The lovely traditional country pub nr Grassington in Littondale. Quite small but very quaint and homely. 2 rooms with dining tables. I had fish pie and it was one of thd best I've ever had, so tasty. My partner had cheese and onion pie with mash and mushy peas and said it was delicious. Proper mushy peas. We also shared a dessert of Bakewell tart with ice cream but forgot to take a photo. It was very nice although we did find a piece of hard plastic in it, because of that we wasn't charged. Great service, very friendly staff. Just alittle far out, down some narrow winding lanes and limited parking.

Chocolate factory
Inspired Chocolate is a delightful chocolate shop with an amazing selection and arrangement of chocolates. Visitors are treated to chocolate samples upon arrival and can also enjoy the lovely cakes at the cafe. The staff is friendly and helpful, making the experience even more enjoyable. Customers can also order tailored hampers with chocolatey contents, appreciated for their quality and accommodating dietary requirements. The shop is pet-friendly, offering treats for furry friends as well.
We did the premium truffle making class. The classes are 11am or 2pm. For the truffle making you do need to book at least 24 hours in advance. We had such a lovely time and the staff are so friendly. The chocolates are amazing, you can even watch them make the chocolates! There is a cafe there, so you are able to grab a bite to eat before your workshop, grab a hot chocolate or even a nice cold refreshing drink. 10/10!
DJtom94 — Google review
Brilliant experience. Lovely staff, chocolate is delicious and the chocolate making experience was really fun. Unfortunately the pick and mix chocolates I bought were stale and very unpleasant, with one tasting of soap. At £8 for 6 they felt like an expensive waste of money because they all went in the bin. I have emailed the shop but they have not replied.
Louise M — Google review
A love small chocolate company. They have some lovely flavours and combinations. They even have a dept head whose name is Candy! I’ve shared a photo of the proof. Be prepared to spend though, you won’t want to leave empty handed..

Did not realize it was accommodation, we tried only the. Tea Room. The staff were very attentive, helped us with our food selections and were happy to make recommendations. We had only tea and a snack, and we all had something different. The room was very cozy, very casual and comfortable, just right. The service was excellent, and all of the food and drinks were very good.

I visited over the weekend. I woudn't normally write a review, but felt compelled to. I'll start with the positives: 1. Food was great. 2. Time for the food to arrive was very quick. The negatives: 1. Inside doesn't resemble anything like what the outside looks like or makes you think what the inside may be like. 2. The interior decor is of a poor standard. It feels like you've stepped into someone's living room, rather than a cafe. 3. The prices are expensive and don't reflect environment you're in. Wouldn't take much to replace that old radiator in the room or the rusty old fridge in the hallway, or to move it somewhere else altogether.
Harsh — Google review
I cannot comment on the facilities.( only a sign that said the toilet was out of order) But, I will say I won't ever return. The woman working there was just plain rude. How on earth she has customers beats me. Firstly, she snapped at us for not having seen the card purchases only over £10.00. We ordered 2 coffees to take away, since the seating at the front was shaded. Two cups of instant coffee amounted to £6.00. My friend joked and said can we have 2 slices of cake to make it £10.00. To which she turned round and said forget it and off she went with the coffee. We ventured further down the road and came across &then tasting deli, a lovely little cafe with cheerful, pleasant people and with proper coffee and outside garden seating!
Fiona T — Google review
£2.70 for a mug of tea, that had been showed the teabag for a few seconds. £2.50 for some flat ginger beer (maybe poured out of a 2l bottle that was opened some days ago?!). Toilets out of order.
James P — Google review
I thought the woman was a bit off when I bought an ice cream and tried to pay with my phone; she looked at me like I was something she had stood in and said it was cash only under a tenner, fairy snuff. Anyway on the coach coming home myou wife asked what I thought of the woman in the shop? She related that she has asked for a strawberry ice cream and was told: 'there's not enough left, you'll have to have a tub'. My wife asked if she could have the bit that was left and top it up with something else? The woman replied 'No I can't do that'. Now maybe she had had some bad news, but if you do go check out her manner. Miserable. Just been told she wanted vanilla not strawberry.

Upon entering, you'll be greeted with warmth and friendliness from the knowledgeable staff, eager to let you sample various cheeses until you discover your favorite.
Lovely range of cheeses, nice and friendly service. One of the best pizzas in England, cooked in a wood-fired oven. And of course, the gorgeous terrace with mountain views.

The Wensleydale Heifer is a sophisticated hotel featuring themed rooms, an upscale restaurant, and a whisky lounge. After visiting the renowned Wensleydale Creamery for cheese samples, a stop at this establishment in the Yorkshire Dales is highly recommended. The restaurant offers a delectable menu that changes with the seasons, including exceptional Sunday lunches and special dishes for annual events.
A sublime evening meal in the restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly, but not intrusive. The food was amazing. I've never had fish and chips where the fish was so "light" and perfectly cooked so that it just flaked but was also moist. The portion size for "regular" was huge so I'm glad I didn't go for the challenge size! The desserts were fantastic. Highly recommended and I wished that I lived closer.

We booked here for our anniversary meal on Thursday. When booking we ticked the box that we were celebrating a special occasion but didn’t think anymore of it, on arrival we were met by a very special treat. The service, food and drink was up there with the best places we have ever been, unbelievable. We pass this restaurant every weekend and just thought it was a village pub, we were pleasantly surprised to see a fabulous restaurant. We will definitely make this our stop off in the future. Highly recommend

⸻ A Hidden Gem in Wensleydale – Fantastic Food, Service, and Dog-Friendly Too! We were pleasantly surprised to find that The Wensleydale Heifer is dog friendly — a rare and welcome treat in such a high-quality establishment. From the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely outstanding — easily the best we’ve experienced in a long time. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. The food was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. What really stood out was the excellent range of vegan options, which is often an afterthought in many places, but here they were clearly crafted with care and creativity. Whether you’re a foodie, travelling with a four-legged companion, or just looking for a special spot to relax and enjoy top-notch hospitality in the heart of Wensleydale, this place is a must-visit.
Linda F — Google review
We absolutely love the Wensleydale Heifer, upmarket restaurant and individuality styled rooms with quirky, quality interiors. The food is top quality focused on seafood but with lots of meat and vegetarian alternatives. Great choice of drinks and amazing cocktail menu. Go on treat yourself 😉 you will not be disappointed
Jan S — Google review
Our stay at the Wensleydale Heifer felt like a real luxury experience from start to finish. The rooms are uniquely designed, and ours came with whisky samples, which was a nice touch! The space was cosy yet comfortable, making it a great place to relax after a day out. The service from the staff was outstanding - they genuinely seemed happy to help with anything we needed, which made the experience feel even more special. Food was another highlight. We tried a variety of dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious. You can tell they put a lot of care into their menu, and it really shows in the quality. Parking was ample, but getting in and out was a bit tricky due to a very narrow entryway - something to be mindful of if driving a larger vehicle. A couple of minor things we weren’t keen on: the towel rail was positioned at the far end of the shower/bath area, making it awkward when getting out, especially with nothing to grip onto unless you wanted something hot! Also, while the shower itself was great in terms of heating and power, it was quite noisy. Overall, a fantastic place to stay with excellent food and service. A few small quirks aside, it’s well worth a visit for a luxurious getaway.

Our son booked here as a surprise 40th anniversary. The room was gorgeous. We stayed in the whisky room and the management provided a flask of whisky, cakes and an anniversary balloon. The evening meal was superb as was the breakfast and the staff were attentive and professional. We will be returning and we highly recommend this boutique hotel.
Bernadette S — Google review
We stayed here for 1 night whilst travelling . The staircase to the rooms is extremely steep . The rooms are comfortable but the walls are paper thin . The person in the next room keep us awake all night with very loud snoring ! When at 4 am we were talking they had the audacity to bang on the wall . I would not stay here again for this reason . Please get some acoustic lining in your property. Regarding the stairs , we were told on booking there were 13 stairs and the building was old . Having just had hip surgery 6 months ago we would definitely not of booked if the accurate angle of the stairs had been described .

Had lunch here and the food is stunning - I had the chippy option - the fish and chips were fresh, crispy and perfectly cooked, and the bone marrow gravy is sooo tasty - hubbie loved the chicken milanese, which also came with a lovely sauce. The chef has a talent for sauces I think! Would definitely recommend - the staff were lovely too 🙂

Additionally, the on-site shop offers a wide range of cheeses, dairy products, hampers, and deli boxes for purchase.
Had a great time here, probably helps that I love cheese. Staff very friendly and efficient. Reasonable prices. Excellent cafe. Enjoyed the cheese making experience and tastings. We probably rushed it a little as we needed to drive home. Worth a visit only £5.75 and if you pick up a leaflet from various outlets you can get 2 for 1

Loved the Cheese Experience which was fun and informative. The shop and cheese room is full of delights to buy. However the restaurant really let it down. Overpriced for the quality received, tables available but told full initially and there seemed to be chaos amongst younger staff working out table spaces at front of restaurant yet ignoring those waiting to be seated or to find out if there is space. Restaurant was really completely disappointing.
Claire K — Google review
I visited the Wensleydale Creamery with my two young daughters (ages 1 and 4) and we all had a lovely time. The demonstration on how cheese is made was really interesting, and it was great to be able to view the factory in action. The cheese tasting was a highlight for me – so many varieties to try, and all delicious. I also found the prices in the shop and café to be very reasonable, which was a nice surprise. My girls especially enjoyed the interactive parts of the visitor experience, which kept them engaged and made it fun for the whole family. Overall, it’s a great place for both adults and children to enjoy. I’d definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the Yorkshire Dales.

I just love cheese of any description, and with my own history of working in the dairy industry a visit here was a bit of a no brainer really. The cheese making demonstration followed by tasting was an absolute highlight. Nice to see they had put out some Wensleydale and fruit cake samples to try. The two together just work so well. Regrettably there was no actual cheese production to watch from the viewing gallery during my visit, but I can hardly fault them on account of their production schedule. The cheese shop is also a must visit, more so than the equally well stocked gift shop in my opinion. Well laid out and with samples of each flavour available to try before you buy. I did a lot of trying, and then of course a little buying. Be prepared for the cold in here though, presumably to help keep the cheese fresh.

Wensleydale creamery visitors centre and Calverts Restaurant is in Hawes, in literally the heart/ middle of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The staff had spot on customer service/ hospitality. In shop, cheese shop and the restaurant. They have a small visiter car park, but the is a large car park 150 yds down the road, which is a pay car park. The Wensleydale creamery experience you need to buy tickets for online. In Calverts restaurant, we were lucky to get a table, many people turned away and had to book. For 2 meal,a side & 2 drinks cost £36. The meal was delicious 😋. I will post pictures. The cheese shop was very busyand wasnice to taste other cheeses. 🧀 😋 Will show also in pictures as well as the gift shop. The gift shop was like going in a candy shop as there was loads of items to buy and gifts. Some items was expensive but others not so bad. Ice-cream cost £3.50 each. I totally recommend. Wheelchair friendly and has blue badge parking.

It certainly looked like fun when reading about it online. But when we visited on Sept 27, the place was absolutely packed. There was no parking in the visitor lot, so we needed to use the Pay & Display lot located down the street. I had hoped for a lovely cheese type tea in the restaurant, but had not realized that booking was necessary. I would have had to wait an hour, and I wasn't willing to do that with so many people crowding around. We opted to go to the "fast food" counter and order cheese scones, each of which came with a walloping amount of butter. I ordered the cappuccino to go with it. I felt a bit like splurging. The scones were OK. I wouldn't say they were outstanding. So, overall, I'd say my experience was disappointing, and I'm one who usually gets excited by simple things!

This was great fun. We didn't book in advance but it turns out that we didn't need to. The demonstration how to make Wensleydale cheese was very informative (And we used a 2 for 1 offer), full of information on the surrounding area and the instructor/demonstrator was a very likable gent. When we finished, we did have a booking in the restaurant and went for the tea for two which was a full on cheese overload! The staff did forget our drinks order so the wife had to go and reminded them, but apart from that the service was OK. It was a nice and relaxed atmosphere and reasonably priced for this day and age :-). The shop was chock full of nice gifts and I couldn't resist a new water bottle (Have you seen this chicken? IYKYK). The cheese shop was brilliant, being able to test all the cheeses before making a purchase. The surrounding area is beautiful and the drive to and from was a pleasure.

Took the tour last year, was amazing. This year, was back for more cheese (after free samples in the tasting room!) Both times had a lovely meal in their Calvert's resturant. Totally recommend.

The Lister Arms is a charming stone pub that offers country-chic rooms, some featuring fireplaces, and traditional dining. Situated in Malham village, it stands out among the few excellent pubs in the area. The old coaching inn boasts original features and serves food made from locally-sourced ingredients along with cask ales.
Lovely comfortable stay! I had a cosy double room and it certainly was! The bed was very comfy and the entire room was to a high standard with an array of coffee and tea to keep me going. The pub itself is well kept, cosy and welcoming. The breakfast and dinner quality was excellent and extremely filling. All the staff were friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble!

The Afternoon Tea… wow. ‘Miniature’ versions of the main menu items, with an alcoholic drink (I went for the peach bellini) and a pot of tea or coffee, for £35! I was served soup, a steak pie, fish & chips, chicken strips, chips, a cheese steak burger. All with a jug of gravy, mushy peas & a hot sauce. As well as all this there were 3 desserts; a warm apple crumble, freshly baked scone with cream and jam and a mini chocolate cake. Mamma mia. The guy said nobody finishes the whole thing and always asks to take some away with them, which I reluctantly did due to having no room left in belly for rest of day. Bear in mind you have to book the afternoon tea 24 hours in advance but it’ll be the best meal you’ve ever anticipated. The main course meals I didn’t get a chance to try but they were the biggest finest looking plates of food you’ve ever seen. Shout out to the amazing friendly, funny and not overbearing staff who seemed to remember all their clientele even though most people are passing through for just a day or two. Dead cosy proper-pub vibes for a nightcap by the fire too on your way home. A million out of ten pub x

What a pub! I can’t rate the rooms but they have 23 of them! The pub is lovely, warm in temperature and hospitality. Staff are brilliant! The food was delicious! The best fish pie 🥧 I’ve ever had……including my own homemade. The food was a good size not too big. The coffee was also delicious! Love the homemade biscuits. All in all a wonderfully run pub. We will be back!

We had an amazing stay at The Lister Arms in Malham! The room was cosy and comfortable with lovely exposed beams, and it was wonderfully quiet. The bed was super comfy and perfect for a great night’s sleep after a big walk. The shower was hot with excellent water pressure (very important to me!) and was absolutely perfect. The food was fantastic—the Yorkshire Burger with chorizo jam is an absolute must-try! We also had the fish and chips, beef short rib, steak pie, treacle tart, and sticky toffee pudding sundae, all of which were five-star. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had, with a really tasty fry-up and a great selection on the continental side too. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home in true Yorkshire style. Not just dog-friendly, but dog-enthusiastic! It’s also perfectly located—you can make it part of a lovely two-hour loop walk taking in Malham Cove and Janet’s Foss. Can’t wait to stay again!

Had a lovely 2 night stay in September. The room was very cosy and well stocked. There was a large bathroom with both a shower and bath, perfect after a long walk. The restaurant had launched their Autumn menu and this was delicious. I’d recommend the Short Beef Rib, which was fantastic. Very conveniently located for the circular walk to Malham Cove / Gorsdale Scar. Would definitely stay again.

No opinion of the accommodation as we didn't stop there but the food is of a very high quality and reasonably priced, as is the beer. Very cozy, with good decor and absolutely spotless toilets and facilities. This is a fantastic country pub

Perfect location for Malham hiking and visiting the cove. Great service, atmosphere and people. Loved the dog friendly bar and dining, breakfast service included a sausage for the pooch which was a nice touch. It’s an old building so the rooms have some… camber? But they’re quiet and comfortable.
Mark H — Google review
Had a lovely stay at The Lister arms. The pub is really well located in Malham with great walks around and some stunning scenery. Whilst we enjoyed our stay I would question whether £180 for a bed and breakfast in a pub is the correct price point. It was good but did it really justify that price, I don't think it did. There were a couple of occasions were we had to wait for longer than expected to be served whether that was waiting for our Sunday evening meal or when waiting to be seated for breakfast. Nothing major to be fair and the staff were generally very accommodating but perhaps our expectations were raised based the price of the room. In summary a lovely pub in a great location with good food and a wide selection of ales but perhaps over priced for what it is.

Nestled in the Yorkshire Dales, Tan Hill Inn is a renowned 17th-century inn that stands as the highest inn in Britain at an impressive 1732 feet above sea level. The rustic pub exudes a classic vibe with old beams, stone-flagged floors, and a grand roaring fire. It's also famous for its rich gravy and offers one of Swaledale's best beer gardens with stunning countryside views.
Excellent pub, highest in Britain as everyone knows. Good selection of beers. Very busy for food. Great motorhome park up with outside toilet and shower available 24hrs. We went on Thursday to the open Mike night. Some excellent entertainment. Lovely log fires and great ambience In a historic public house. We'll worth the journey. A big thank you to the excellent staff.
Mark S — Google review
Unfortunately, a disappointing experience. Yes, the drive up and views are incredible and the pub has a good, traditional feel. However, that's where that ends. A traditional feel to the pub doesn't mean it can't be clean - even the cobwebs have collected dust. The food is alright but everything is order and pay at the bar, so should probably be a bit cheaper than it is. This is highly inconvenient as you cannot run a bar tab even when sat eating so the staff won't top you up on drinks. As a popular spot, we were queueing for over 10 mins to get a drink whilst the food was sat at the table getting cold. There was just one young lad waiting tables. The pub was busy outside with passers-by ordering drinks but barely any tables eating when we got there, yet we got a latte with no milk, a starter with two of its four components missing and of course with only one member of staff waiting tables, we were unable to flag him down to mention these and with a 10 minute queue at the bar - not worth bothering to wait and complain! Not the waiter's fault but for a famous pub, it's obvious they are catering for the masses and not worried about the experience. Besides, you pay when you order so you won't get any money off for any screw ups when settling up at the end! A real shame, it could be fantastic all-round, not just a high up pub in a pretty spot.

Gorgeous iconic pub with nice stout in a stunning location on the borders of Cumbria and Yorkshire. Great night in out of the rain by the fire with live music and numerous excellent vegan options on the menu, including pie! Would have quite happily been snowed in.

Walked directly into and through a yellow weather warning for 4 hours to get here on the Pennine Way, through the bogs on the north side. Sat by the fire drying for many hours and sewed together my bag strap. Met some wonderful folks in the pub and camped out back.

Great staff, quick service, good food . Fab atmosphere, we ended up staying overnight in our camper van. ( Cost £10 for charity) Will definitely be going back. Amazing views too.

Had a great night at the Inn once again. Great food and a very good selection of Ale that I had to sample. The staff are all very welcoming and we had a good night of chatting with the other patrons. We were parked up with our little camper van so wobbly walk back wasn't too far. My only suggestion, we spent way in excess of £200 on food and beer but couldn't access the outdoor toilets as we hadn't paid for the camping. Could this code be given out if you spend over a certain amount on food at the inn? Not a complaint, just a suggestion. A great night with great people, good food and beer in a brilliant location.

The Tan Hill Inn is so much more than just a pub—it's an adventure and a destination in itself. Perched high in the Yorkshire Dales, the journey to get here is part of the fun, offering breathtaking views that make you feel like you're on top of the world. Stepping inside is like walking into a postcard. The exposed beams, stone-flagged floor, and roaring fire create an incredibly cozy and welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for escaping the everyday hustle. The food is fantastic, with hearty, delicious pub fare that's exactly what you need after a walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside. I highly recommend the pie—it's legendary for a reason!

Modern European restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Ilkley, The Box Tree Restaurant is a delightful fine dining destination that beautifully marries tradition with modern culinary flair. Housed in one of the area's oldest buildings, this eatery has been serving exquisite dishes since 1962 and has played a pivotal role in launching notable chefs like Marco Pierre White.
This little gem of a restaurant is hidden away in the centre of Ilkley. From the moment you've entered the restaurant, the service is exemplary and the food simply follows suit. Great tasting food, which examples real skill in the flavour combinations and artistry. This was our second visit for the Sunday lunch set menu and it was first class. We took friends with us on this occasion and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Went on a Saturday night for dinner, with Sommelier's choice wine pairing. Service was well paced- time between courses was perfect, we were neither rushed nor left waiting between courses. Some particular highlights were the XO dumpling, the dampersand bread and the chocolate pudding.
Freya D — Google review
We came here on Christmas eve for my wife's birthday. The meal was pretty good, but pretty good doesn't cut it when you're paying £400 for a meal and wine. Let start with the good bits. The scallop + parsnip puree was divine. The soufle for désert was good also but unsuprising and a little plain. The bread was salty and sweet and was complimented perfectly by a trio of butters. I was unimpressed by the menu in general, nothing that exciting or interesting. We had a box tree 'christmas pudding' which consisted of some Luke warm brandy cream with some puffed rice. The main was a Christmas dinner which was nice, but not anything special. I think there is a hard cap on how good a Christmas day roast can be, and would have expected this to be at that cap. It was not. Had we paid 1/4 of the price that we did I would give the meal 5 stars. However, we didn't and at a restaurant with the box trees reputation I expected a memorable evening that I would want to tell people about, instead I felt obliged to write this review in the hope that other locals don't feel the need to try the box tree, as there are many other better restaurants in Ilkley (in my opinion).

From arrival to leaving this restaurant treats its customers like they are their only guests. Attentive and friendly and a very comfortable relaxed atmosphere. As for the food there are not enough superlatives to do it justice. Flavours were subtle and then strong. Dishes served beautifully. And the idea of updating 60 years of previous menus is just inspired. I would very very highly recommend.

We have been a few times for dinner, which has always been delighful, so fancied trying Sunday lunch @boxtreerestaurant , every dish was delicious and perfectly executed! Definitely, the star dish was obviously the roast beef! It's really good value for money for a five course lunch. The wine is always fantastic, clearly the staff were very busy, but as always, very pleasant.

Fantastic ancient country inn in the heart of the Yorkshire dales that’s well worth seeking out. Lovely local ale and serves food. Fantastic rustic ambience and amazing views of the rolling dales. Friendly on both sides of the bar. Occasional live music. May allow stopovers if spending a bit of money behind the bar on ale or grub but space is limited.Lots of local walks and dog friendly . Most highly recommended 🍻

What a marvellous suprise! A superb genuine old world pub. Fab see of local beers. Delicious menu choice. Charming staff. And a characterful building. What more could you want?
Ladybird S — Google review
Would be a 5* review if just the pub and the beers. The building is unique and historic, the bars are small and full of character. There is a cruik barn built at the back providing a larger area for meals. The range of cask beers is excellent, many local independent breweries are represented. Of particular note when we visited was Rudgate, Wensleydale, and Timothy Taylors. As I said, on the pub and the beers this would be 5*, but we also ate here. The menu is quite extensive and there is a lot of choice. However the options if you don't want to eat meat are very limited. These days being vegetarian is pretty common and even vegans are catered for in most establishments. Unfortunately, for non meat eaters, the only main course option was a risotto. The risotto was very good, tasty and filling. The starters were quite limited (although not as much as the mains) I felt the Hummus and bread starter was uninspiring, the tasteless bread was dry and the vegetable sticks not particularly crisp. The starter was poorly presented and pricey (£9) for what it was. The side of fries we had was uninspiring to say the least, acceptable but nothing else - I had a portion of chips in the pub at King's Cross Station last week that was at least three times better! Service was good, the food arrived in a timely manner. Once we'd finished our main we weren't even offered the menu again to select a dessert. I'd be happier coming back here in the future to enjoy the ambience and the beers rather than the food. I'd like to add that the bar staff were very pleasant and helpful, no problem with me trying a beer before committing to buy. I'd definitely recommend coming here, there is loads of outdoor space at the front, over the road and even behind the pub. The location is, of course, the stunning Yorkshire Dales.

What a place ! Staff friendly, outside views stunning and inside a dream to wander around and look at the features of this historic place. Fish and chips ( cooked in beef dripping, which took me back about 50 years ! ) are well recommended and kept us full all day. Dog friendly too, so I can definitely recommend a visit. My friend from France just loved it too.

Ok but nothing special. Had a great beer then ordered the steak pie. Honestly had better pie and chips at the football. A rural restaurant is measured on its flag ship dish which is always the steak pie. Desert however was beautiful so hence the 3 stars. Service was very good also. Change the pie supplier and worth 4 stars.

I have been ordering food from this place at least 2 or 3 times a week and never had any problem. There's been times when staff called and informed me of certain items being out of stock or certain items had been discontinued and I truly appreciated it. Food is always amazing. However tonight, received these steaks burnt and I order mine medium rare. I'm extremely disappointed. Why would you send these out? Why?? Dear Louise I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my review. I appreciate you passing the feedback to the kitchen and I'm super happy my favourite place in Preston is back. Simply wonderful.

We stopped off at the Black Bull for a meal to finish off our weekend following a mini break to Blackpool. We have eaten here frequently and always been very happy with the food and the service. However, this afternoon was a little different. This was quickly resolved by the manageress, Dale. What a lovely lady she is and a great asset to this establishment. At one point, there was definitely a moment when we would have thought twice about going back. But not now, we will definitely return. We would also like to thank the waiter (an older gentleman, I am sorry I don’t know his name) another great worker and very polite.

Experienced the last 2 games of Euro 2020 at The Black Bull, Garstang Road. Decent vibes. Frequented by regulars, probably inhabitants of Fulwood, who know the servers by their first name. The bar food was not exceptional. Our feast included home fried nachos (very flavourful and fresh, recommended), calamari salt & pepper, onion rings, fish & chips, chicken & pork ribs with Korean styled bbq sauce (which was a little dry), tasty succulent chicken wings in Nashville style hot sauce & Hunters chicken (I agree, BBQ flavour overload on our table) The sweet potato fries should not be missed whereas the treacle sponge pudding can be skipped. 2 cocktails for £8 is a good deal. Good spirit & beer selection. For us, the biggest plus point is the convenience & proximity of the pub to our residence. Ordering and paying on the app makes life easier. Very prompt service and friendly, polite staff. Warm ambience. Good indoor & outdoor seating arrangement. Will we visit The Black Bull pub again? Yes, of course!

was there for a meal, it was good value for money, well presented and tasted good. Nice bottle of wine at a reasonable price. Large place with plenty of space, friendly staff, warm and comfortable. Would go back again without hesitation. Having been several times I note the portion size has reduced recently. good luck 🤞 to you guys. I hope all the best. Please keep up the hard work, thank you .

Came for a meal with my mum, which was fine, good service and food was OK. Then received a £100 parking fine!. I called the Black bull and spoke to a lovely lady named Nicola, when I explained I didn't know I had to put my reg in somewhere she straight away took my details and without questioning....as I had paid cash and no proof I'd eaten there, she cancelled the fine there and then over the phone. I will return and know to put my details in next time. Thank you so much again Nicola for your help, so much appreciated 👏

Retreat Tearoom & Bistro, located in Grassington, is a charming cafe offering a variety of specialty teas and locally roasted coffees. They serve tempting homemade cakes daily and traditional afternoon teas on Fridays and Saturdays. The bistro is licensed, allowing guests to enjoy wine, beer, gin, or Pimms with their meals. In addition to freshly cooked food and specialist coffee, they provide gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan options.
Just happened in for breakfast one morning and were very pleased. The barista (owner perhaps?) is an espresso genius! The porridge, pastries and eggs were all a delight. So much of a delight, that we returned the next morning, as did some of our tablemates from the day before. We were delighted to catch the barista for a few minutes about his favourite recommended spots in the Lake District later that day.

We’ve been here a few times now and always have a lovely experience. The service is quick and friendly, and although it’s always been busy when we’ve visited, we’ve always managed to get a table. I really recommend the paprika scone and the hummus and falafel wrap! There is also a nice small menu for younger children.
Pippa B — Google review
A charming little tea room. The menu has a fairly broad range with quite a few choices for vegans and vegetarians. The menu is clearly labelled for those on a Gluten Free diet. Prices are a little on the steep side, which is what you'd expect for Grassington. The food arrived in good time and we all said how tasty the soup was. The falafel wrap also got a good verdict. The single toilet was clean. There are a few steps inside, but has level access to the main part of the bistro.

100% recommend. I visited multiple times during a short break staying in the area. Great vegan options. I was sold on my first visit when I saw four different vegan cakes were available! Breakfast, lunch and snack options are great, and the staff are really lovely. Had a good natter, and even recommended other places to visit. The place is dog friendly too! If/when I'm back in the area, I'll be paying another return visit.
Ruth L — Google review
Absolutely delicious food, very friendly service and free customer WiFi if you ask for the password at the till, which was handy as we had no reception at all on our phones. Food was prepared fresh so a short wait for food when we were there at a busy lunch time. We especially enjoyed the falafel wrap and soup of the day. One toilet which was popular so had a queue a lot of the time. I would love to give 5 stars overall, if only for the welcome we received, but the prices were definitely steep for the amount of food served. It was all great quality, no doubt using good produce, but the portion in the kids fish goujons and chips was so comically meagre, it even had our 4 year-old commenting on how it wasn't very big for £6.40. Same could be said for the size of the wrap + chips for £10. We'd come back if we're looking for a bit of a treat, but travellers on a budget might want to look elsewhere (though it does seem to be par for the course in Grassington).

***F&B Big Threes: Food: incredibly sustainably and locally prepared with lots of love and home-owned feeling Service: swift, polite, kind, and attentive, especially in a very touristy area flooded with groups Ambience: charming and home-owned with bride by the blue-eyed caring gentleman who takes pride in the homemade cakes, scones, and meals.... this place is worth the investment in meals and musings; awesome location just off of the square and afternoon sunlight

This place is marked down on my favourites now. The burger was absolutely incredible, so much attention to detail with the flavours. The loose leaf earl grey was so fragrant and tasty. I wish I had more room for the desserts, next time! Quirky little place, and you can really tell that the owners go above and beyond to make their customers feels welcome. We were asked multiple times how our food was as well, which I always respect and appreciate. 10/10 for everything!

"The Butchers Arms" is a charming community pub that offers top-notch food and ale. The friendly staff provides excellent service, catering to both adults and children with patience and attentiveness. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it a great spot for families. The pub's interior design is superb, creating a delightful setting for visitors. Additionally, the establishment adheres to safety measures by providing a Covid-safe outside area.
Great little country pub, saved by the locals and run by a super amenable landlord. Serves good food, which is of a high standard and good value. Can get v busy. Probably need to book for dinner. Gordon Ramsey would approve of menu - its not too big and yet everything is consistently done well. Popular with locals and tourists apart. Worth the detour.

Absolutely fantastic food, 10/10 would recommend, especially chicken wellington was outstanding! Great flavours and generous portion sizes. Apple crumble is enough to share and so yummy! The staff is really attentive and friendly and found us a table on a fully booked evening. Must go if you’re in the area and if not - it’s worth a trip!

A lovely pub with fresh food! We are staying nearby and came to the Butchers Arms for a birthday dinner. The food was proper British food and was all fresh, hot and delicious. All the meat was lovely and it was all presented beautifully. Very reasonably priced for the standard of food and plenty of drinks on offer too. We went with two dogs and pre booked before, and the staff had the table ready and were very friendly. Very dog friendly place in the pub side! We are hoping to return as there was so much we wanted to try on the menu

What a lovely pub!!! We went on a Sunday afternoon, sat in the main bar area (with the dog). The welcome was warm from entering, and the staff were so friendly. The food was excellent, we had roast pork dinner and chicken Caesar salad followed by syrup sponge and sticky toffee. Simply bloody lovely. The drink selection was good, and the surroundings are really pleasant. To top it off, it’s in such a beautiful village at the very top of the Yorkshire Dales. Would recommend and will be returning ASAP.

4 adults and two dogs. Had a superb Sunday lunch. The choice was beef or pork. Lovely veg and Yorkshire pudding. Roasted potatoes were a delight. Crunchy and soft inside. Returning for an evening meal. The menu looks wonderfully varied and it will be hard to choose Thoroughly recommend you try this pub at least once

The Friars Head is a renowned bar and restaurant in North Yorkshire, offering a wide selection of hand-pulled craft ales, wines, and cocktails. The venue features countryside-inspired decor, a large south-facing beer garden, and an inviting open log fire that creates a cozy atmosphere. Whether you're looking for light lunchtime meals or elegant à la carte options, the delectable menu has something for everyone.
Absolutely lovely food. Great selection of drinks. Lovely building and a nice outdoor area. Definitely recommend.

Lovely building, good location, great decor, nice atmosphere. Very small bar, fair selection of local ales but I never saw a member of staff behind the bar. Had Sunday lunch here a couple of times, overall pretty disappointing especially given the premium price. Wait times for food and drink were far too long, 30 mins plus for drinks, 1 hour plus for main course, dishes served at intervals and differing temperatures, even though the restaurant was less than half full. Food, when it arrived, was reasonable quality, generous portions but at best lukewarm. Nice dessert, terrible coffee. There seems to be a problem with staffing/management. Waiting staff were friendly but none of those we spoke to were familiar with the food or drinks on offer. And the kitchen clearly isn't able to cope with demand.

8 of us visited for lunch 04/09/25. We ordered very different mains and deserts and it was testament to the quality and beautiful presentation that every plate was eaten with nothing left. Very good portion sizes and all dishes appeared freshly prepared. The ambiance and comfort of this eatery is warm and welcoming and the service was on point. Definitely a place worthy of visiting.

Dropped on for a quick bite to each at lunch, a burger and a ploughman's. The ploughman's was two pieces of the same cheese, four leaves of rocket some coleslaw and piccalilli and two pieces of dry bread, shreaded ham literally covered in whole grain mustard. No butter, onion, salad, pickles, onions, pork pie. The burger came with chips, which if I'm being polite were best described as very dark brown and had either just been left far far too long or completely forgotten about. They were basically burnt and should never have left the kitchen. After saying they were not edible it was explained they so brown because of the sugar in the chips!! We live nearby and have previously visited throughout the year but seriously if you are considering dropping in don't waste your time or money.

This is genuinely a lovely bar/restaurant however, the service was all over the place. Apparently it had a new management team and didn't seem to be working very well. There was a male staff member crying in the bar, who then (I believe) 'left' . We overheard 2 separate tables that had waited for food for over 40 minutes, be told the chicken they ordered was no longer available. All in all, it was poor, we ended up cancelling our table that we had booked. Its a shame as we visited a number of years ago and it really is a lovely place. This is NO reflection on Akebar Park its self, Purley just the bar/restaurant
Jamie Y — Google review
Terrible service. Went for sunday dinner with the family. We were asked what drinks we wanted while we were walking to the table without even seeing a menu. We ordered our food but they waited 30 minutes to tell us they had ran out of beef. We then waited a further 50 minutes to get our meals with no apology. All we got were excuses of being busy etc. The food was ok but well over priced. Would never go back.

Nestled in the charming village of Ingleton, the Black Horse Hotel is a delightful 17th-century coaching inn that perfectly blends tradition with modern comfort. Guests can unwind in warm, inviting rooms and indulge in a meal at its traditional restaurant/pub. The atmosphere is cozy yet contemporary, making it an ideal spot to relax after exploring the picturesque surroundings.
Stopped here with some friends for a bite to eat. We shared some delicious sandwiches including hot roast beef, hot roast pork (both with fries onions, chips and coleslaw and a huge fish and chips sandwich. All were eagerly scoffed and fully enjoyed! The Black Sheep beer was also very, very good! We were lucky to sit outside in the warm weather and enjoyed the opportunity to eat on the terrace but there was ample seating available inside. Everything was clean and well kept and the staff were lovely and friendly. Prices were good and the quality and size of portions was just right. Overall, I would recommend the Black Horse and would like to return and try more of what they have to offer. Parking is difficult in Grassington at the best of times, so it is advised you walk from the main car park or have someone drop you off and then park the car but don't let this put you off, well worth going.

We stayed last night in the Black Horse (we’ve stayed in a few places in Grassington) and we were not disappointed. Service, friendliness and attention to detail was outstanding. Lin (I think was her name) on Reception (and a whole load more) was fantastic. Zoe (I think was her name behind the bar and again a whole load more) was brilliant. I cannot recommend any more to anyone considering staying in Grassington to stay at The Black Horse - spotless rooms, great beer (which is my important thing 🤣) and a first class restaurant! Thank you to all the staff at the Black Horse for making our short stay so special.

Have stayed at this hotel several times. The staff both running the hotel and serving in its restaurant are EXCELLENT. The food quality in the restaurant is superb and I can highly recommend the garlic mushroom starter - I can guarantee it is the best you will ever taste in your life. Location is great but there is no dedicated parking. The surrounding streets are too narrow to park in, and you can only park a short time on the nearby square IF THERE IS A SPACE AVAILABLE. Access for the disabled is a little challenging, with flights of steps everywhere both to get into the building, and inside it. No ramps or lifts available but that is understandable in such an old, historic building built on a slope like this. Where it really is let down - sorry - is the mattresses on the beds. Amongst the worst hotel beds I have ever slept in. They are so hard its like sleeping on slabs of concrete. There is no "give" in them whatsoever. You wake up constantly through the night with back pain, and in the morning you are equally wrecked for the lack of sleep. If they changed the mattresses for some that are softer, this would make a huge difference. But overall, the service/staff, restaurant and ambience in the place make up for its bedroom shortcomings.

Stayed here for one night on our walk up the Dales Way. VG service from the time we walked in the door (with a small let down in the bar which we discussed with the manager). Great place with some amazing food. Portion sizes are decent for what you pay. Had the lamb koftas to start with were packed with aromatic flavours A 8oz ribeye that had a juicy and flavourful taste. They certainly know how to grill it as cane in at a perfect medium rare. Apple crumble to finish which wasn't too sickly. Lovely selection of drinks (I had a nice mango cider that wasn't overly sweet). Atmosphere was brilliant and inviting with a outside seating area if you wanted it. (Though its sloped so be careful if you're gonna have a few ;). )

⭐☆☆☆☆ – Fine Dining for Your Worst Enemy I’ve used this place plenty of times and it used to be decent—but today? Absolutely not. The chicken was so dry I thought I’d accidentally ordered a piece of sandpaper. And the sausage? I needed a chainsaw to get through it. Even a steak knife tapped out. Really impressive how quickly the quality nosedived. If this was my first time ordering, I’d assume it was a prank. Fingers crossed it was just a one-off, but honestly, not rushing back to find out.

Fish and chips takeaway
The Trawerman is a delightful eatery that prides itself on serving traditional fish and chips made from locally sourced ingredients. Each dish is cooked to order, ensuring that every meal arrives piping hot. The menu features an impressive selection of fresh seafood, including Haddock, Cod, Plaice, Salmon, Kilhorn Bay Scampi, and premium Greenland Prawns. During a recent visit for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon, I noticed the take-away section was bustling while the dining area was relatively quiet.
Best fish and chips on the planet. Amazing, not to be missed and highly recommended. The lightest batter on the fish and the chips were fluffy and crispy. The curry sauce was delicious 😋 I seriously didn't want the meal to end. Staff hard working and friendly, a joy to visit. If we are in the area again will definitely be going back.

I had fish & chips to take out and it was tasty enough. The only downside to my experience was the fish was tiny, I actually commented on it to the server and received a 'whatever' look from her. Fish are cooked to order and there were none in the Warmer to replace it. The Restaurant looked busy, I'm guessing they were saving the bigger fish for the "bigger fish" sitting down to eat (sorry, couldn't resist that one). Anyway, not good considering the price for fish & chips these days. I'll try Bizzie Lizzies in Skipton in future.
Harry F — Google review
I feel for the fish & Chip industry with sky high prices for quality fish. This place is an ex car showroom you have to drive through a petrol station forecourt to get to the car park which is a bit awkward but cant be helped. They always seem short staffed ! The food is good and the staff try their best but the place lacks atmosphere sadly. Maybe a bit more back ground music and a freshen up especially the window blinds !

The Trawerman is a great place to go for good quality traditional fish and chips. 4 of us visited here one evening after hearing the fish and chips were worth the trip and we were not disappointed at all They were totally amazing. I could not get over the portion size, Huge and really nice we all totally enjoyed them, So filling we could hardly gather the strength to get up and leave. The place is clean and tidy, with toilets if you need them Car park is big enough and fully accessible as it's all on one level. Hard to get to excited about Fish and Chips but this is the best ive had in a long time.

Went for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Not many dining in but take away section looked busy. Decent sized car park but bays not marked out and no designated disabled bays. Easy access into the building. No steps or anything to hinder those with mobility problems. Once inside there is a counter where you are asked to wait to be seated. It’s also where you pay on your way out. As it wasn’t that busy we had plenty of options on where to sit. Very light and airy but views from the large windows are nothing too admire. I had already decided to go for the Trawlerman Whale and chips. This was £18.95 and comes with a pot of tea or coffee. My brother spotted one of the specials. Haddock, chips and mushy peas and a pot of tea and coffee was £10.35 for over 60s. A few minutes after placing my order our server came back to say they didn’t have the haddock and was it ok to serve me cod. I had no problem with this. Taste wise my cod and chips were very nice. The chips in particular were excellent but I have to admit I was disappointed with the size of my fish. It was described as a ‘giant’ fillet and not for the ‘faint hearted.’ I though it was very thin and certainly not what I expected. Based on the description I thought I would have problems clearing my plate. I didn’t. Compared to what my brother had I don’t think my meal justified an extra £8.50. If I had ordered mushy peas it would have been even more expensive. My coffee was hot and strong and you would get several cups from the pot. However, it wasn’t the tastiest but then I’m not the best judge as I’m not a big coffee drinker. But my brother enjoyed his pot of tea and was very happy with his meal, both in terms of quality and quantity. For what he got £10.35 seemed great value. In conclusion I had no issues with the quality of the food. My problem was the quantity. After my experience here I think there are other options offering better value on the menu. I would visit The Trawlerman again but would study the menu in a more detail before placing my order and go for one of the specials.

Visited during a work trip, service was excellent and the food was absolutely fantastic and well priced. I personally don't like dogs in places where I eat and having to listen to them barking and having them near me when I'm trying to eat and relax ruined it for me. Have stayed at Beck Hall twice and it's a magical little place. Set in a stunning location with beautiful walks from the doorstep. Lovely staff and a fabulous place to dine. Creative, well presented and delicious vegan food, with charming views of the little brook. Breakfast and coffee the next morning were also great. Dog friendly. Highly recommend.

First time visiting Beck Hall and cannot wait to go back. From the moment we checked in the staff were so welcoming and kind - our dog quickly took a liking to them all! The room was cosy and clean, and the bed was super comfy. We slept very well with only the sound of wildlife outside. The food was an absolute highlight, I especially recommend the breakfast pastries, blue corn tacos small plate, seitan shortrib, and the ice creams - just sensational. Would love to come back to try the Sunday roast, am sure it would be immense. The only improvement I could say is I wish the portions were a little smaller so I could have tried more of the dishes. The scenery nearby was so beautiful! Just a few minutes up the road was a very easy walk to Malham Cove where we took the dog each morning - some cows and sheep around but dogs are fine on leads. Also went a little further to Janet's Foss which was a peaceful little waterfall. We frequently bumped into other people also staying at the hotel and ended up having some lovely chats (so many of the guests are so friendly!). Would strongly recommend Beck Hall and especially the restaurant to absolutely anyone - we can't wait to come back! Thank you to all the staff who made us, our dog, and even the little rescue bird i ended up having to bring with me so very welcome and at home here :)

Everything from the food to the service, room, and location left a positive impression on us. This year, we again booked a superior room, but we faced some challenges that we hope can be addressed. Unfortunately, the room we received was smaller than our previous one, and we encountered some ventilation issues in the bathroom that led to mould growth. Given that we have a 6-month-old, we had requested a deep clean for peace of mind. Additionally, we were surprised that this superior room did not include a bath, which was an important feature for us with a young baby. Our previous room did have a bath, and we were hoping for the same experience this time. On a positive note, the food was outstanding once again, and we truly appreciated the quality of the menu—it's fantastic to be able to know that we can enjoy everything offered. My husband did miss the prawn cocktail dish that was available during our last visit, and we hope to see it back on the menu in the future. Lastly, we would like to extend our gratitude to David, who served us during both visits. He consistently goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a memorable experience, and we believe Beck Hall is incredibly fortunate to have him on the team. We would gladly hire him without hesitation. Overall, we appreciate the charm of Beck Hall and look forward to seeing some improvements during our next stay.

Really lovely place with excellent food. We were so impressed with this place, the location is amazing, the staff were very nice, the room was great and the food is some of the best Ive had in years. They coped so well with me needing gluten free, actually coped is the wrong word because it just wasn't an issue and I felt very confident that they knew what they were doing. The dining room was beautifully decorated too. Honestly the food was so good it's worth a drive out there just for dinner. The location is scenic with several lovely walks near by.

I just stayed here for two nights in August. We came here because my wife watches 'Those Vegan Guys' on YouTube and they did a couple of pieces on the place, that made us book here. The room was amazing, staff & service were amazing and the food was beyond amazing. Cooked breakfast, afternoon tea, lunch and dinner menus were (from my Vegan point of view) pure luxury. If you're a Vegan looking to stay here, do it and you won't regret it. Bar was good, nice range and great alcohol free choices for me. My room was a standard, lived it, comfy bed, gorgeous bathroom. There are some good local walks, it was a truly relaxing, beautiful weekend. Definitely coming back here.

Fully vegan restaurant plenty to chose from. We were a party of four and all had different mains and deserts all were excellent. The location is set next to a running beck from malham cove. The running water adds to the tranquility of the Hall. The place is fully dog friendly. We drove and the roads as you get close to beck hall are narrow with passing places. There are plenty of walks that can be done from Beck Hall.

Beck hall is an absolutely brilliant hotel. The food here is immense, we were excited for every breakfast lunch and dinner. It's absolutely stunning with a bridge over a stream to get to the hotel and seating next to the stream as well. The big breakfast is amazing, the tofu scramble on toast is somehow even better The afternoon tea is lovely, the cakes are amazing and so are the sandwiches. We attempted to try all the side dishes and main courses but we didn't have quite enough time but they were so good All the staff were so lovely and helpful with giving us little cushions to prop up the baby and giving us advice on which walks were doable with the pram and just generally being chatty and lovely

We're just back from our third stay at this gorgeous place. From arrival onward the staff are so friendly and helpful, all of them. Particular shouts to David and Wade this time. Food as always was exemplary, we loved all the new small plates. Room 16 and lower riverside are two rooms well worth getting if you can, although even the standard rooms are perfect. We came for a birthday treat and met lots of our lovely friends. Already planning to book again.

Spice Restaurant & Bar in Bedale is a top choice for those seeking an adventurous dining experience. Located just a short drive from Akebar Park, this establishment is renowned for its delectable Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. The restaurant hosts banquet nights on Wednesdays and Saturdays, offering a complimentary bottle of wine for groups of four. While the food is plentiful and delicious, some patrons have noted that the service can be slow at times, possibly due to the bustling takeaway business.
The food was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive. I had garlic creamy prawns to start and Garsht pata which was recommended by our waiter. I highly recommend both! The pata is a medium but if your at most a medium it’s easily doable. The husband had meat samosas and madras. The madras is hot but it’s a building hot. (Which I’m reliably told is the best way). Apparently the meat samosas were also very good. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Called in to Spice without a booking. We were welcomed and a table found straight away. They had their Sunday buffet on which we found great value. The portions were just as big as normal even for a reduced price. The food was first class and the service was really good. Would highly recommend.

From metal being in iur food to the lack of favour, there are a LOT of reasons to give this place a miss. Wait times for food were insanely long for extremely small portions of, flavourless, bland food. 5 drinks cost us over £40. There was metal from a kitchen scourer in the food that luckily didnt do any damage. Staff didnt check on our table unless we called for them. The sharing platter starter was, without exageration, 5 mouthfulls of food. Asked for a house special curry with "all meats" got chicken, very fatty lamb and tiny prawns. They sat us at a table so close to the kitchen door you found yourself interrupted by the extremely loud kitchen staff who not only yell but clatter pots so loud youd think they were throwing them across the room. And despite the tiny portions out food alone was worth half of our almost 3 digit bill for just 3 people. And that was WITH the discounted meal offer. For our complaints nothing was comped and instead they gave us a bottle of wine that we would have got for free if we hhad a 4th person with us anyway per the meal offer. Absolutely give this place a miss.

To the kids for a meal the other week as they had never tried Indian food before... They looked after us and talked the kids through the menu. They thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was excellent. We went back two weeks later and they remembered us.

The food was cold and the bins had not been emptied for a long time clearly there was mould growing on everything. When calmly discussed with the manager I was told to leave the building and not to return! The photo speaks for itself, I asked if they have a cleaning company to which the manager replied he does it himself! Clearly not well enough, if that's the standard bin it makes me concerned what the cleanliness of the rest of the property is, so disappointed! When explaining that I was putting a lady product in the bin as there was no alternative, the manager told me I was disgusting and that should be saved for home as he should not have to sort out lady products! I explained that there are special bins for this and they are clearly tried to explain this can't be helped and they did not have appropriate bins in place, again he shouted very loudly pointing in my face to leave the premises telling customers not to worry I was just being rude to try to get a discount. another at all just concerned for the cleanliness of the building

Went out for an Indian meal while staying nearby. The food was yummy, and it was nice to see the restaurant and take away busy. Plenty of spaces between tables, and hand sanitizer available. As we were walk ins rather than a booking we were not asked for any trace details, but I really enjoyed my meal out. Thank you for the wonderful food

Nestled within the stunning Swinton Park Castle, Samuels Restaurant is a true gem in the Yorkshire Dales, perfect for a delightful holiday dining experience. This exquisite eatery prides itself on cultivating its own fruits, vegetables, and herbs to create exceptional dishes that celebrate local flavors. With a new head chef at the helm, guests can indulge in an innovative seasonal tasting menu that showcases culinary creativity amidst beautiful surroundings.
We always have a Sunday lunch here when we are in Yorkshire, wonderful old building with magnificent grounds. With the accomplish cooking and friendly service it is a pleasure to spend some time in this establishment. After missing a few visits because of the pandemic lock downs, it was good to see some old faces again.

Went for Sunday Lunch with friends. Wonderful place but poor service and cold food, Ordered 3 medium rare and 1 rare beef. We got 4 medium rare and they were barely warm. Yorkshire puddings were cold and very crispy/burnt.Had to wait for vegetables despite asking twice and they eventually came cold. Cauliflower cheese was congealed in the dish. What a shame! Such a lovely place!!

As previous diners have noted, the location and staff are excellent. Sadly, the food is truly awful. Portion sizes are pitiful, no bread with soup, chips that wouldn’t look out of place in the scraps drawer of a fish and chip shop. Please don’t waste your money dining here
Martin W — Google review
Very disappointing. We were kept waiting about 25 minutes before anyone came to take an order and only then because I asked them to. Food was good but very expensive and certainly not very good value. Such a shame because we love this place.

Excellent experience. Really good service. Well thought out and well executed food and wine choices on the tasting menu. Impressive dining room
Mark H — Google review
Beutiful buildings and surroundings were the highlight. We were warmly welcomed and politely seated. This good start was then sadly dropped by informing us there was now only one vegitarian main meal available...yes the dreaded risotto! Really, that's the only option the chef could provide for vegetarian meals. Unbelievable. The most common and therefore boring meal vegetarians get offered at every restaurant around the world. Moving on, our group ordered starters from a good selection. Main courses, including the roast beef sunday option and duck. These were good but nothing special. The vegetable sides being very ordinary and lacking any garnish. The deserts, usualy thd highlight of a mesl for me, was a selection of pub desserts. Surely, this is where the meal should delight. But sadly no, sticky toffee pudding, creme brule etc are hardly going to inspire the sweet toothed eating out on a special to return for a delight. I cannot quite fathom why a menu at such a grand place would be so boringly ordinary in most of the menu options. To try and bring some balance to my review, the scallops and black pudding were well paired, if you enjoy those two items, which I do.

Fantastic new head chef offering a brilliant seasonal tasting menu... We had a beautiful evening in great surroundings. The hotel is gradually being refurbished and when finished will match the quality of the food. Our only feedback for our tasting menu was our main course of lamb. We felt it either needed to be bigger or presented on a smaller plate. Unfortunately it was a little lost in a sea of porcelain! Overall a lovely evening and we hope the new head chef brings success to the hotel.

Nestled along the A59, The Hopper Lane Hotel is a charming pub that offers a cozy atmosphere with warmly decorated rooms and casual dining options. Guests rave about the friendly staff who go above and beyond to accommodate dietary needs, such as whipping up a fresh mushroom risotto for vegan diners. With a small yet varied menu complemented by an enticing board of specials, there's something for everyone.
Very pleasant experience, homely with friendly staff. 2 diners were vegan and despite there being nothing vegan on the menu they cooked a mushroom risotto fresh for them which we thought was very considerate! Would recommend, there's some decent walks nearby. Menu small but varied and big board of specials. Sandwiches and chips substantial and definitely recommended. Dined as 6 friends Saturday lunchtime

Was a very random choice on our way across the A59. What a great choice it was. Staff were lovely and attentive. Ales were great. But... the steak and ale pie. Well, it’s definitely the best I’ve had in years. Delicious gravy, incredible melt in the mouth meat and great chips. Bravo to the team.

Thanks for such a delicious lunch on Wednesday! We had a lovely lunch after a walk to celebrate a friend's birthday. The staff were very welcoming, atmosphere cosy, with log fire. We pre-ordered most of the meals,as a party of nine, but staff very understanding and flexible as one wanted to order on the day. All the food came out together, lovely and warm, and delicious. We will definitely return! Thanks

Lovely place to relax and unwind. We stayed in a lodge adjacent to the inn. The pool, gym, steam and sauna facilities were great, as were the Swedish massages provided by Chloe and Kitty. The only downside was that the service in the restaurant was a little lacking. The floor manager was spot on, and was doing all the heavy lifting, whilst the younger waitresses frankly failed at serving items they were asked for, namely, the requested bottle of wine to accompany the dinner, water for the table and dessert menus. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, so I couldn't figure out why the waitresses were so inattentive. The food and wine, when it did arrive, however, was fine.

Stayed Saturday night, 12 July, party of 12, special birthday, 2 gluten free. Absolutely brilliant. Big shout out to the manager, and all the staff. Excellent food, professionally served at the same time, great evening. Can’t have been easy to get right, but they did. Rooms bright and clean, but what made it was the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast served to order, cooked to order, equally as good as dinner. Big thanks guys, ant wait to be back Stuart

We went for the Twilight Spa Experience at Long Ashes and had our meal in the Gamekeepers Inn afterwards. The staff were very polite and friendly, and we were greeted on arrival with a glass of Prosecco each! The meal was lovely, although I wish we had been warned of the reduced menu available for the Twilight Spa Experience beforehand. We both found things we liked on the menu, but it would have been nice to see it online or in advance. Definitely somewhere we will come back to again!

We had a brilliant evening at The Punch Bowl Inn. The food was fantastic, service excellent and we we enjoyed relaxing in comfortable leather chairs for our coffee afterwards. It was all a very pleasant surprise. We had almost cancelled our table booking because of the stern warning given about vacating the table after a certain period of time. It did not sound at all conducive to a relaxing meal. The reality was a world away. Friendly, welcoming, no pressure to leave our table, good service with a genuine smile, even though they were short-staffed and totally rushed off their feet. I would thoroughly recommend!

Four of us called in for a late lunch at the Punch Bowl after the Muker Show on Wednesday. Due to a staffing ‘situation’ the Front of house was being managed unaided by Emma. She was AMAZING !!! She was kind, friendly and helpful despite being almost overwhelmed. The service was excellent and the food was great. Well done Emma.

Had a wonderful stay as an extended family of 11 to celebrate my mums 70th birthday. Rooms are great cosy, clean and feel authentic. The setting of the inn and views are spectacular proper Yorkshire dales. Food was good especially the pies and fish chips traditional pub grub done with a bit of extra scope. The absolute main reason for the 5 star review is the manageress Emma. She is one of the nicest, most accommodating land lady's we have ever stayed with across all four little families who mad up our group to say she went the extra mile to make our stay so good is an understatement. She is a credit beyond and as well as her people skills she never stopped working for every guest and patron. Give that girl a payrise!

What a find! The best pub grub I’ve come across for years and not astronomically priced either like most places these days. We did a lovely little loop from the village car park, up past the reservoir, over Embsay crag and looped back across the moors back to the village and straight into the pub. We left our dog in the car as she was filthy but did note a few happy dogs down at the bottom of the pub. Out of respect we swiftly removed our boots too so as not to trail mud through the place. Noted the polite notice on the door too. Samira opted for the veg lasagna and I ordered the steak pie. DELICIOUS! We will be back!

Decent pub, with half decent food at a reasonable price. Though, the burger was a little dry, unfortunately, although, these things happen so, it is what it is. Waitress was polite and attentive. Would certainly return if I was in the area and fancied a quick and reasonably priced meal.

We called in one Sunday afternoon, 8 of us for a drink and was going to order some food but the welcome or should I say non welcome made us change our minds. We had been walking our boots weren't muddy but a curt " are your boots muddy" as soon as we walked in. Then told we had to sit down at the bottom as we had dogs which is fine but when there's a lady sat at the bar with her dog, odd!. We found the barman rude when ordering drinks so we " supped up" and went elsewhere for food.

The Old Swan Inn, located in the picturesque village of Gargrave, offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with a lovely open fire creating a relaxing ambiance. The inn is popular among both locals and visitors for its delightful restaurant dining and an open plan bar serving an array of local cask ales, ciders, and lagers. Additionally, it is conveniently situated near the Leeds-Liverpool Canal network. The pub features cosy fireside snugs and is dog-friendly.
Popped in here today for lunch, after travelling up from Devon. This will be our local for the week as we are staying in the village. Outside dosent do it justice, as the inside is very well presented, various seating areas off the well stocked bar area. We went in for a drink and although the bar was busy and a little noisy it was easy to find a quiet room to sit and chat. We examined the menu and the ‘Specials’ menu and decided to stay and eat. I spoke to a member of staff who was more than happy to book us in at our chosen table at a time that suited us. The food was ordered, a steak sharing platter off the ‘Specials’ menu, and it was a short wait for it to arrive. However, we were presented with cold plates that were duly sent back for warmed ones! The food was cooked to perfection and we also could not resist the deserts menu. The staff remained attentive and obliging throughout. Great pub, great atmosphere and excellent staff. This place is highly regarded by local locals for the quality of the food and it's service and is a victim of it's own success. The carpark and cafe both get quite full, although visitors are lured outside to take in the views in better weather which easys things a bit. The mountains of homemade cakes are amazing and all to tempting The light meals using local products are excellent value when you take quality into account. Despite being busy the service is excellent due to the hard work of the staff.

The paninis are worth choosing on the menu. They’re generously filled with scrumptious ingredients. This place is definitely worth stopping at , when you’re in the Dales. 100% 5-stars

A lovely cafe with really delicious food! Huge selection of cakes - a few vegan ones too! I had a vegan breakfast panini of vegan cheese, sausage, and bean on the softest, nicest, ciabatta bread! Lovely setting too! Very much recommend

Nestled in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, Wensleydale Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Shop is a delightful gem that offers visitors a chance to indulge in handcrafted dairy ice cream made from rich Jersey milk sourced from the local Hillside Herd. This charming establishment is set within a beautifully converted barn, providing an inviting atmosphere for guests to relax and enjoy their treats.
Fantastic little place, tucked away but well worth a stop. The hot food was great, but the real draw is the ice cream - so many flavours and so many different ways to enjoy them!

A brilliant range of ice cream flavours and choice of delicious ice cream sundaes and cakes as well. A choice of inside tables and outside seating to enjoy the great views. Also a selection of hot food options we saw on the menu - toasties and jackets. On today’s visit it was all about ice cream and cake. We will definitely return when next in the area 🙂

Don’t be fooled by the fact it doesn’t shout ‘Cafe’ from the road, it’s called in-keeping with the environment! We called here after a road diversion and generally bimbling our way home from Richmond. What a great little find, not overly signposted due to being in The Dales and just a short walk from the car park, you’ll find this tastefully restored Cowhouse which happens to serve great coffee, great cake (we had carrot), local Ice Creams, Soups etc. Also some great local art / craft gifts are available. Really friendly staff, had a great chat with the owner about the building local food etc…and life in The Dales. Brilliant.

Had a lovely ice cream here a few years ago and stopped in again as we were going past. Unfortunately you can't try flavours which is a shame. I understand if it's busy and there's a queue but there was no-one behind us at all, and I just wanted to try and decide between two flavours. On the plus side, I got a single scoop of the pear ice cream which was really lovely. Big portion for the price, and really creamy with pieces of pear in, and a really good flavour. Will be back!

We have newly discovered this place. It is a beautiful setting to have an icecream on the patio, surrounded by stunning scenery. Lots of unusual flavours as well as the traditional ones. I opted for the rhubarb icecream which was lovely.
Dena T — Google review
This is a lovely place and was quite busy when we visited. There is plenty of seating inside and out. The single scoop ice-creams are £3 for a very large scoop in a waffle cone. Excellent value! There is a kid size ice-cream for £2.75. There are plenty of flavours to choose from. There is a menu with various drinks and an assortment of sweet treat. There is also an array of gifts.

Gorgeous place and location... Just Countryside. Food was ok. The pancakes in desserts we're meant to be fluffy American style but we're more like potato cakes and hard. Spoiled what was other wise a delicious treat

While the pub serves excellent food and offers a variety of beverages at reasonable prices, it also welcomes guests with their cottage key to receive a complimentary drink. The owners are passionate about the place, adding character to this dog-friendly establishment.
Lovely pub with a nice outdoor area. It was great to sit on the sunshine people watching. The landlord and his wife were very friendly. The landlord came to chat to us about his pub and where he previously worked in Preston. They weren’t serving food today but the landlady said the kitchen would be open Sunday. When we left the pub we walked along the front to head back into the city. A very pleasant visit.

The Old School Art Gallery & Craft Centre is located in Muker, just 7 miles west of Leyburn and close to Aysgarth Falls. It's the largest art and craft space in the Yorkshire Dales, offering a wide selection of local arts and crafts as souvenirs. Visitors can explore the gallery, watch artists at work, and even find inspiration to create their own masterpieces inspired by the stunning Yorkshire Dales landscape.
Absolute gem of a gallery and gift shop in an unexpected location in Muker. We planned a walk from the village and had the opportunity to look in the gallery after the walk and sit in the lovely garden. They do self serve drinks which was great as the pub and tea shop where close when we visited.
Stacey P — Google review
We drove over Buttertubs Pass from Hawes to have a look at this really good art gallery and spend quite a long time looking at the artworks on display in the right hand room. Everything is well set out and lit and we spent time reviewing what we saw and discussing what we were looking for. In the end, we didn't buy a picture but came very near. The room on the left had a considerable amount of local pottery and gift items, all of it good quality. Behind the right hand room there are serve yourself drinks available with an honesty box. There's seating in the garden and up an external staircase, another gallery. It is all very well done and worth the journey to get into the dale at Muker. All in all an interesting and stylish art gallery and gift shop.
Simon C — Google review
Beautiful gallery in Muker, we could have spent hours looking at the work and, had the weather been kinder, sitting in the lovely walled garden. We are delighted with our Richard Walls photographs of the Muker Meadows and our Anji Timlins and Hester Cox cards which will remind us of the stunning views and peaceful energy we were surrounded by on our summer holiday in the village. We even came away with cards to send at Christmas: beautiful scenes of the area in the snow, Richard Walls photographs again. I hope to visit again when we are not camping and have more room in the car for shopping!

Didn't expect a craft shop & gallery in such a small, very nice village. There was a great selection of all kinds of artwork and the owners were very friendly. Bought a painting and it was delivered overseas in a very good condition and we are so happy looking at it everyday. Hope to be back one day and visit the teashop as well after a walk in the beautiful surroundings!

Beautiful location and warm, friendly service. A great place to buy a gift for someone special. Have already earmarked some jewellery for Christmas gifts! Light and airy cafe offering a range of drinks including good quality coffee and delicious cakes. Will be visiting again soon to view the new stock of prints and paintings. We'll worth a visit.
Sue K — Google review
Lovely gallery with some beautiful art focused mainly on the scenery and animals of Yorkshire. Much of the art has been commissioned by the gallery from local artists. The owner has some great photography of the area for sale. I presume that Richard was the owner but maybe not. The gift shop is very nice as well.

Such a lovely laid out gallery with coffee, tea and cake. Great selection of souvenirs and prints too. There is a lovely resr courtyard with an upstairs gallery. I've been working on the cottage next door for 6 weeks and the staff are so friendly and helpful and they always had time to stop and say hello. I'm looking forward to seeing them again soon

This is a fascinating hidden gem of a shop and gallery with many interesting, unusual items. I liked the wooden mouse doorways, the stunning glass designs and the vast range of different subjects in the gallery. The coffee shop is very pleasant with tables inside and out. The cake is delicious and the fresh coffee is made to suit your taste - I like mine weak. We spent ages browsing in the shop and probably as long relaxing in the coffee shop before strolling in the garden. We look forward to a return visit in this beautiful part of Swaledale.

The cafe is known for its exceptional coffee and delicious homemade cakes. Visitors praise the friendly family-run establishment for its quick service and generous portions of freshly prepared food made with local produce.
Sad I wasn't here around dinnertime as the menu looks delicious! Cakes are all homemade and taste fantastic. They also offer a great selection of drinks including milkshakes and specially flavoured lattes. Staff seem lovely. Don't miss out!

Delicious coffee!! Thank you - lovely staff too who have to keep up with a fast pace of customers in a small space within the café. Only criticisms (quite hard to find!) is the £0.40 add on for plant based milk. That cannot really be explained in my opinion. Also there are not enough seats outside so be prepared so sit on the main lawn in the square.
Kat B — Google review
Overton House Cafe is the stand out best café in the Yorkshire Dales. I've been coming here for a couple of years and each time reminded why I come back. A friendly, family run business that serves local produce. It's menu is well thought out and prepared fresh daily. Sandwiches and soup of the day are always a favourite. I've cycled here a couple of times and they have happily offered to refill water bottles. Dog friendly and homely, a must see stop on your way through Reeth - you won't be disappointed.

WOW what a great cafe, such a friendly family running it. We were 5 cyclists (very hungry) who had delicious toasties followed by coffee and cake. Service was really quick and I told the lady who owned it with her husband that the dark chocolate tiffin was fantastic. She asked me if I wanted the recipe and disappeared inside, thinking she had forgotten we were just leaving when she ran out the cafe to give me the recipe. Now that is service. DO VISIT, a great cafe in beautiful Reeth.

Nice pub with good atmosphere. Unfortunately the food let it down. Our meal was less than great with one dish having to be replaced with apologies from the chef. Prices are competitive and there is plenty of parking.
Russell H — Google review
Visited today for a carvery at 530pm, if you can call it that. Expected it to be busy at that time or day, but it was very quiet. Scrag ends of meat, even the server seemed embarrassed trying to slice it as it was as dry as cardboard. Some guests ended up having veg only as the meat looked awful. Veg was cold, mash is smash, roasts cold and overcooked, stuffing balls as hard as golf balls!! Yorkshire puds looked good, however were stone cold. We tried to eat but after being unable to slice the gammon we sent it back. The staff were apologetic and we got a refund on the food and ended up eating elsewhere. We used to visit here many moons ago and thought we'd give it a go again as it used to be good. Sadly, after today we will not be returning. I hope they manage to turn it around again. Shame if another pub/eatery has to close.

Despite its compact size, this friendly micropub welcomes children and dogs inside or you can choose to sit outside on upcycled kegs.

The King's Arms Hotel, a 700-year-old pub in Askrigg, is renowned for its warm interior, knowledgeable staff, and selection of cask ales from Theakstons brewery. Situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, it offers beautiful scenery and spectacular walks including Aysgath falls nearby. This dog-friendly pub has historical significance and was even featured in James Herriot's work.
After a hike in the Yorkshire Dales my partner and I were starving and stumbled upon this quaint little pub in Askrigg. Safe to say we were in for the best surprise as neither of us expected much, typical pub food nothing special but I can truly say it was the best meal I’ve had at a pub in ages! I had the steak & ale pie and my partner had the sausages & mash and I could not fault it! Everything came out hot, portions were generous & most importantly it tasted amazing. The pastry on my pie was a quality only my Nana has achieved for me! In short, can’t fault the place! Would love to go again & would highly recommend to anyone visiting Askrigg or Leyburn!

Had one of the best Sunday lunches (if not the best!) I've had out! We both had cheesy garlic mushrooms to start, I had a mixed Sunday roast and the wife had brie, cranberry and mushroom wellington as a Sunday lunch.Big portions and friendly staff in a proper old fashioned pub!

I am still in a bit of a haze from my experience of spending my 55th birthday in Askrigg, all this due to the love of the BEST BBC show ever created, All Creatures Great and Small, in 1978. We arrived in Askrigg Friday night quite late. The pub was open, but the restaurant was closed. I asked them if they could feed three poor souls, and they said the restaurant was closed so we sat down for a few drinks, and before we knew it, they brought out two big bowls of french fries, some dip, and a basket of fresh bread and local butter. They said that's all they could do, but I was touched by their kindness. What great people! Sunday, I made reservations for lunch. We had the roast beef with all the trimmings (Yorkshire puddings, mashed potatoes, etc). Again, the staff could not be nicer. The sticky toffee pudding was out of this world. I just want to say thank you for your hospitality on my 55th birthday and for being part of a dream long in the making- visiting the Yorkshire Dales! So, if you are looking for good beer, good food, and good people, you found your pub! Another nice detail is that it is right across the Skeldale House, one of the main reasons why I was in Askrigg!
Lucinda C — Google review
Very friendly and attentive staff, the place was decorated nicely. Food was expensive, however worth it. I do recommend the lasagna very generous portions, stuffed. I tried the onion rings they just melt in your mouth, gorgeous 😋
Megan B — Google review
We ate in both the restaurant and the bar, or more specifically, in the old tack room next to the bar. The food was excellent as was the service. The tall, local woman in the white top who served us in the bar should get special mention, as she took time to explain about the history of the hotel when we asked. I thought the atmosphere in both locations was really good but, personally, we loved eating in the bar and chatting to both customers and servers. This is a fascinating old building and worth booking a table, if you are staying locally. Come early though, as parking in the village can get pretty tight, especially at weekends. A proper 5-star visit on two occasions. Excellent and highly recommended. Did I say the food was nice too? There's a good menu!
Simon C — Google review
The pub was booked out in the Monday we arrived in Askrigg, so we booked for the following. The interior is charming and has some great photos of the original ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ cast. Also many gorgeous local pooches to enjoy dog-watching! Our meals were excellent and the staff very warm, friendly and hospitality. Would definitely recommend!

Lots of nice touches to improve your stay. Fresh milk & bottles of water kept in a shared fridge for each room. Nice toiletries Comfy bed with quality bedding Breakfast was good not quite great. Nice toast, one rasher of bacon, one sausage, slice of black pudding, one mushroom one whole tomato plus our choice of scrambled egg. We probably should've asked for our bacon & sausage to be crispy / well cooked. Easy location on road out of Skipton. Our room was at the back & was very quiet. Lovely country pub with well decorated and maintained rooms upstairs and good food. Staff were very friendly and helpful and service at dinner was good. Update as of the 13/06/25 just had tea there well I ordered the pork chop and wow it filled my plate would highly recommend this place to anyone.

I have stayed here twice. On my own and with a friend. A comfortable, country pub with delightful staff, good food and in a lovely location
Susan A — Google review
I've used this pub a few times for lunchtime meals. Food is always well cooked and served. Hope to revisit for an evening meal sometime.

Had Sunday lunch. Glad we booked as it was very busy. The food was fabulous as was the beer. But the best part is the service. Great staff who looked after us really well. The views from the restaurant were great too. Thanks too all.

Cafe
This cafe, with its inviting old-fashioned décor and range of homemade breakfast dishes, is a real find in Moortown. It's perfect for lazy Sunday mornings, or a quick mid-morning break during hectic weekday hours. The coffee is top-quality and the food – hearty but not too expensive – is irresistible.
Would definitely recommend I had a small breakfast and it was perfectly cooked and very tasty Would go again if you are ever in Armley leeds you must go to the cafe they do take away as well and the staff are great as well get down and give it a try I love having my breakfast here either eat in or take away

Lovely full English breakfast at decent price

Staff are friendly and welcoming. Food always spot on whether it's a full English or a sandwich for my partner and veggie breakfast for me. It's the best cafe in Leeds. That's why we keep coming back
Maggie M — Google review
It's open 7.30 to 1.30 every day the food is great and staff are very helpful and happy the prices are affordable and there is parking right outside the cafe and it as a very good extensive menu definitely recommend.

Typical cafe, economy ingredients and a slice of spam that was so thin you could nearly see through it. Nothing intrinsically wrong with the food, and a full breakfast of 2 sogs, 2 bacon, beans, tinned toms, mushrooms, fried egg, 2 slices of toast or bread and a tea for £7 was good value but still nothing to write home about.
Brian A — Google review
Open on Sundays! Which was all I wanted. Proper greasy spoon without the greasiness of some places. Pretty complete breakfast, perfect tomato's. Two pieces of toast a little burnt and beans a little cold. Having to choose between black pudding or spam or hash brown is very cruel.
Alastair B — Google review
No friendly greeting. Just a 'don't lean on the counter' Someone needs a lesson on how to speak to customers. Breakfast was ok. The bacon was very hard, and like cardboard. I couldn't stick my fork into it. Not sure I would visit again. Surly staff, and cardboard like bacon.
Nigel F — Google review
Food is good, atmosphere feels ok but some of the staff seem very unenthusiastic, I'll go somewhere else.
