Museo Quiñones de León, located in Castrelos park, is a traditional stately mansion turned into a museum showcasing the Galician aristocracy from the 18th to the 20th centuries. The museum features furniture, art, and valuable archaeological pieces that offer insight into the region's past. Visitors can explore rooms adorned with period furniture, lamps, and rugs while admiring one of the finest collections of Galician painting.
The Museo Municipal de Vigo Quiñones de León is a true hidden gem in Galicia, offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Housed in a stunning 17th-century manor, the museum provides a fascinating journey through Vigo’s past, featuring an impressive collection of Galician art, archaeological artifacts, and period furnishings that transport visitors back in time. The exhibits are well-curated, making it an engaging experience for both history enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. What truly sets this museum apart, however, are its breathtaking gardens and parklands. The surrounding Castrelos Park is a beautifully maintained green space, perfect for a relaxing stroll or a peaceful retreat from the city’s bustle. The French-style gardens are particularly enchanting, with their symmetrical designs, fountains, and colorful flower beds that change with the seasons. The English garden offers a more naturalistic, romantic charm, making it a delightful spot for photography and quiet reflection. Whether you’re visiting for the art, the history, or simply to enjoy the peaceful surroundings, the Museo Municipal de Vigo Quiñones de León is an unmissable attraction in Vigo. The combination of cultural richness and stunning landscapes makes it an ideal place for families, couples, and solo travelers looking for a bit of inspiration. Highly recommended!

We were there on Sunday, the museum was closed, but the area was very beautiful. Lots of greenery, flowers and the ancient castle is very beautiful and picturesque.

A great discovery! On the first floor there is a little archeological exhibition, the museum is very well taken care of, you can visit all the different rooms and see the paintings. Outside there is an amazing French and English style gardens. The little duck pond was a lovely surprise.

Very nice museum in Vigo. There is a small archeological exposition. The museum, paintings and the rooms were a great surprise! My kids loved the visit.

Stunning castle with marvelous gardens to have a relaxing walk or make your wedding album pics. Open all year.
Montse L — Google review
Four aspects made this an interesting and worthwhile visit : the House itself, styled, when built, on an English 18th Century Manor House; the collection of paintings; the archeological collection of artifacts from paleolithic to Roman (I was especially impressed by the collection of 2nd century stellie (grave stones) and the Latin inscriptions upon them); and the extensive gardens and surrounding parkland. Free entry and free parking.
Brian D — Google review
Didn't go inside, but the gardens alone are worth the trip

The Museo do Mar de Galicia is a contemporary museum showcasing natural, cultural, industrial and historical exhibits. Its modern architecture seamlessly blends with the surrounding environment situated between two beaches and leading to a lighthouse. The building also houses a cafe/restaurant serving delicious dishes. The permanent exhibition offers insights into the Galician fishing industry throughout different periods of time while also addressing geopolitical changes that have affected it.
Lovely museum on the seafront - engaged staff and a cool building. Visiting exhibition on Vikings and then a mix of maritime and fishing history covering Drake, Darwin, the Romans and the Galician fishing industry. Room full of preserved fish of different species in jars was satisfyingly unnerving. Worth a stop!
Max D — Google review
The Museo do Mar de Vigo is a fantastic spot for anyone interested in the connection between Vigo and the sea. Housed in a striking modern building designed by renowned architect Aldo Rossi, the museum itself is worth a visit just for its impressive architecture, with large glass windows offering beautiful views of the Ría de Vigo. Inside, the exhibits explore the region’s rich maritime history, from traditional fishing techniques to the evolution of shipbuilding, among other industries, making it an engaging experience for visitors of all ages. While the layout can be a bit tricky to navigate without a guide, taking your time to explore each section at your own pace is well worth it. One of the highlights is the large fish tank, by end end of the visit, which recreates the natural habitats of the Ría de Vigo, giving visitors a fascinating glimpse into the local marine life. It’s a unique way to appreciate the underwater world of Galicia. With its blend of history, science, and interactive elements, the Museo do Mar de Vigo is a great place for families, history buffs, and anyone who enjoys learning about the ocean.
Carlos L — Google review
We loved this intricate and informative museum. The expositions are all super interesting and well-documented. The aquarium was our favorite part, seeing the shark eggs was the cherry on the cake! Most of the panels are only in Spanish, however, so be sure to have a translator handy.
Madeleine ( — Google review
Some really good artefacts set out very well. Friendly staff, but very little labeled up in English, lots of guess work when looking at the displays, still worth a visit though. Check opening times.
Simon T — Google review
It was a great surprise in our trip to Vigo. I was with kids and they had a wonderful time in a rainy day! The aquarium is small but very well done.
Thiago R — Google review
If you’re not into museum, it’s worth getting there just for the building itself. Modern architecture and a building that fits in the environment. Located in between 2 beaches and a stretch that leads to a lighthouse, with a nice café/restaurant that serves delicious dishes. When I visited, there was a temporary photo exhibition about the Portuguese Camino to Santiago de Compostela. Mix of 19th, 20th and 21st century photos. The permanent exhibition tells you all about the Galician fishing industry which is interesting considering the many changes due to geopolitical events throughout the periods of time.
Aurélien H — Google review
Wonderful beach area to have a stroll away from the city. I came around by sunset and was pleasantly surprised with the beautiful environment, boats, museum and lighthouse. I felt lucky to have captured the sunset here during my short trip to Vigo.

Outdoor Activities
Praia de Samil is the largest and most popular beach in Vigo, Spain. This 1.2-km stretch of white sandy beach has been a local favorite since the late 1960s. It offers modern amenities such as public swimming pools, a skating rink, cafes, picnic areas, and public restrooms. The area also features a paved promenade with plenty of parking nearby. Visitors can enjoy activities like beach volleyball and relax at tapas bars along the coast.
Praia de Samil is a vibrant and lively beach, perfect for families and those looking for a mix of relaxation and fun. Located near Vigo, it’s one of the most popular beaches in Galicia, and for good reason. The long stretch of soft, golden sand is ideal for sunbathing, and the calm waters are great for swimming. What sets Samil apart are its excellent facilities. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés, and shops along the promenade, making it easy to grab a meal or enjoy a drink with a view. The beach also has sports courts, playgrounds, and even swimming pools, offering activities for all ages. One of the best parts of my visit was the stunning sunset over the Cíes Islands, which can be seen in the distance. Whether you’re looking to unwind or enjoy a more active day by the sea, Praia de Samil has something for everyone. It’s a must-visit if you’re in the Vigo area!

Large beach, soft sand, free parking lots with many free spaces. Nearby along the beach there are free swimming pools for children under 12 years old and picnic zone. A good place to relax.
Andriy R — Google review
A beautiful, beautiful beach! We were there on July 4th and the water was ice cold! but it's an amazing spot.
Sha — Google review
It is certainly the most frequented beach in Vigo, yet it is also quite beautiful. During the summer, one can find beach bars and pools for children. It is a pleasant location to unwind and witness stunning sunsets in the autumn.
• • — Google review
Better go to Cangas or somewhere else. After seeing tens of Galician beaches this one wasn't impressive because the water is dirty and isn't for swimming in my opinion. But for sunbathing the beach is enough and there are also small parks around. Toilets and showers are available too

Parque Monte do Castro is a stunning park surrounding the El Castro fortress, featuring gardens, terraces, and shaded paths. The park offers panoramic views of the city from its mountain top location. Visitors can explore an Iberian settlement with Bronze Age dwellings on the lower slope. It's a great option for those who prefer a less strenuous experience compared to the nearby fortress.
Good place to catch sunset - just a 15 Minute walk up after a 10-15 walk from the cathedral. Lots of sitting areas as well to enjoy a picnic. Next time i would go with a picnic basket
Suhail S — Google review

Tiago L — Google review
Best spot, to see the sunset in Vigo! You can see all of the ocean, the Cies Islands, the bridge! I totally recommend it to everyone. Don't go without a cerveza! For picknick with your friends, it's the best as well!! Also, you can run and do sports around it, the best to do in the sunrise or sunset;)
Horváth J — Google review
At the top of the mountain, right in the middle of the fortress that crowns it, some walls from the 17th century that today are the best vantage point of Vigo and the estuary to the Atlantic Ocean. Within these walls are the castle of O Castro and its gardens, as well as sculptures such as the monument to Vigo by Camilo Nogueira or the tribute to the medieval poet Martín Codax. Walking down the paths bordering the fortifications towards the historic quarter, you will come to a new vantage point where the Rande Galleons Monument is located.. It consists of anchors and various cannons that were found from three of the dozens of ships sunk in the Vigo estuary during the Battle of the Rande in 1702, when the Anglo-Dutch fleet and a Spanish fleet escorted by a French collided. Very interesting place, a gem in history.

My wife and I saw an exhibit of works by the great Galician painter Lexeiro here. The gentleman who worked there (whose name tag said Jorge if I remember correctly) greeted us very warmly, and (in Spanish, which we speak) gave us a very detailed and well informed tour of some of the artist’s works, along with very interesting cultural and historical commentary. It was like a 30-45 minute great lecture by a passionate art/culture professor—really enlivened the work. Felt very lucky to have walked in there! Free admission as well!

Nestled in the alleys of the Old Town, not easily found unless you look up for the spires ( or use Google maps 😁). A plain stone church with a modest inside - personally I find more fitting for the religion than the ornate and ostentatious alters we have seen in many other churches around Europe.

In Vigo, Spain, the Monumento a Jules Verne is a must-see attraction. The monument features a sculpture of the famous author sitting on the tentacles of a sea creature, inspired by his novel '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,' which mentions the treasures of sunken galleons in the Bay of Vigo. Nearby, visitors can also take selfies with the El Sireno mermaid statue.
Google wanted a review, so here it is. He looks nice, and I guess you can't prove you were in Vigo if you don't get a picture with him but he is not exciting, nor does he do much. He just pretty much sits there.
Jeff B — Google review
The Bay of Vigo was mentioned in the book “20 000 Leagues Under the Sea” written by Jules Verne. After publishing his book, he visited the city of Vigo aboard his yacht Saint Michel III. The bronze sculpture, made in 2005, was to commemorate to centenary of the death of the writer.

Castro de Vigo is a pre-Roman settlement with circular thatch-roofed dwellings dating back to the 3rd century BCE. It has been partially reconstructed and offers limited opening hours for visitors to enjoy a decent view of the area. The site provides a fantastic opportunity for leisurely walks, offering peaceful and relaxing surroundings with panoramic views of Vigo from above. Visitors can explore the area on foot or drive up halfway before strolling around.
Fantastic place to walk around for hours and take in the view of Vigo from above. You can spend so much time here as it is very peaceful and relaxing. There was a cafe nearby for a pit stop too. I walked all the way up but you can drive up halfway then walk around. Highly recommend to stroll around this place!!

Playa del Vao is a popular beach in Vigo, known for its long stretch of golden sand and picturesque coastal landscape. It attracts a younger crowd who enjoy activities like soccer, windsurfing, and sailing. The powdery white sand and calm waters make it perfect for sunbathing and family outings. Nearby, Samil Beach offers an expansive shoreline and recreational areas for relaxation and water sports.
Well did specifically come here because of the reviews on Google and we were not disappointed. The whole area is beautiful and the situation / views from the restaurant is outstanding. The whole ambiance of the restaurant is excellent. The service, the views etc. We concentrated on seafood and it was excellent. Incredibly fresh. Very simply cooked but delicious. Price wise good value This is a really good restaurant. The reviews are valid We can on Black Friday in November and it was super quiet but I imagine in the summer you will need to book

A popular beach that is clean and not too overpopulated. It is a short distance from central Vigo. It has a lovely walkway for taking in the sights and relaxing. There are plenty of seats scattered alongside the walkway. There are bars and snack bars for relaxing or getting a quick bite to eat. There is a skating area and other play areas for all ages. The beach is long with plenty of space for most people. On certain days the cloud covers the horizon, which is a marvel to see. Overall it is a great beach experience with plenty to do for all ages.

Beautiful beach! Probably my favorite beach I visited in Vigo. The sand was white and soft. A picture perfect beach that was a long stretch along the water and also to the water making it perfect for strolling. The water is also shallow which is nice for relaxing and wading. Vigozoo, also known as Zoo de Vigo, is a small traditional zoo located about 10km from the city center. It is nestled in the beautiful surroundings of mount A Guia and offers a diverse range of mammals, reptiles, and birds. The zoo features an interesting nocturnal exhibit that showcases animals during their active nighttime hours. Visitors can enjoy various activities and educational programs suitable for all ages throughout the year.

**WARNING AVOID THIS ZOO** Animals in poor condition. Cages are small, filthy and some even broken. Park in disarray, broken down benches. Birds and cats are heaving the most terrible and small environment. Boycot Vigozoo. This park should shut down and offer all the animals to parks that are capable of taking proper care of them.
Tme — Google review
My family and I decided to visit the zoo on a Saturday afternoon. If you have a child who is 3 years old or under they can enter for free, two adults cost around 12€. We looked at the map and headed towards the first stop. They had reptiles, insects, and birds…. it was lovely. Then we looked at the map to decide our next stop, we noticed that they had a lot of zones “under construction” which was a bit devastating. As we went from one place to another we could see that some animals were pacing around and wouldn’t stop. We came to the conclusion that maybe they were doing so because they were anxious or stressed. We didn’t get to see many animals because they were either napping or hiding.
Roxy R — Google review
We especially liked the fruit bats. We came in the afternoon and many animals were sleeping and could not be seen but towards the evening they woke up.
Ioana H — Google review
It was nice! It is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it’s a good stop/detour if you’re doing the Camino Porugúes from Vigo. The staff was super friendly and gave us pointers on how to get back on trail. They also stamped our credenciales. Some animals did seem a little… neglected? Or sad, at least, but what do I know about animals? I’d most likely return, hopefully with all the renovations finished.

Historical landmark
Castelo de San Sebastián, also known as Fortaleza de San Sebastian, is a renowned 17th-century fortress in Vigo, built during the reign of Philip IV to safeguard the city. It offers fantastic panoramic views of the estuary and serves as a strategic vantage point for anticipating sea attacks. Visitors can access it through hilly streets or by climbing up from the old town or Oliveira Square.
A must do if you’re around. The climb is accessible and the views of the bay are stunning. If you don’t feel like walking up, take a taxi or an Uber ride to the top. The reward is the lovely garden located on top of the old castle. We saw a few people enjoying a picnic over there which is a grand idea.

Went to the top with my girlfriend, 3 guys were at the top just hanging out and all looked questionable. One teen with a dog, and two adults. Possibly drinking. They were staring at my girlfriend, we were completely alone and isolated at the top, no one else about. We left as we felt uncomfortable and afraid. On the way down a police officer was on his way up, that says something when the police patrol the area. Not an area for females or people by themselves as the area is quite isolated and you can't be seen from the path below. The turrents (?) at the corners were being used as toilets, just stay away, not worth it.

Nestled along the stunning coastline, the Mar de Vigo Auditorium stands as a remarkable conference center that beautifully merges culture and leisure. The auditorium is spacious and well-equipped, making it an ideal venue for theater performances and concerts alike. Visitors can enjoy a sun terrace that invites relaxation while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of Vigo's industrial district.
The auditorium was huge and really good! I wondered how it feels like watching theater or even a concert here. They are also have much room/class that comforting. The toilet was also in good condition, unless its located a lil far from the main auditorium. What I like the most about this building is, its placed next to the sea so we do have a captivating view a whole day! The pix are not good examples. Where is the high columned main terrace entrance? The city must have more street lighting around it and some cafes to give it more life by drawing people there. Rúa dos Cesteiros is a charming street nestled in the heart of Vigo's historic center, where the spirit of traditional craftsmanship thrives. As you wander along this picturesque lane, you'll encounter local artisans showcasing their exquisite handmade baskets and hats—perfect for those seeking unique souvenirs. The atmosphere is vibrant, with authentic eateries inviting you to savor local flavors.
(Translated by Google) One of my favorite places in Vigo. Street full of charm, with very authentic places to eat and of course with the typical basket shops. Unfortunately there are only two local basket making businesses left. Let's hope that this trade from which the name of the street derives is not lost... (Original) Uno de mis lugares favoritos en Vigo. Calle llena de encanto, con sitios muy auténticos para comer y por supuesto con las típicas cesterías. (Translated by Google) It is highly recommended to go, everything is very beautiful and is made with the smallest detail, it is a shame that little by little the craft is being lost, I was very sad that the man cannot sell at least everything he has made, he was super kind and even showed us his own workshop where he made all those works of art, the place where it is located is not so visible but it is a place that is really worth visiting and it is very sad that this craft is going to be lost. I would love to do something so that more people would visit the man and his work.

The bronze statue called "Homage to emigration", located at the access to the Maritime Station of the Port of Vigo and made by the sculptor Ramón Conde (2011), represents all those Galicians who had to leave for emigration to America to seek a better life, and the families they had to leave in Galicia. The sculpture depicts a man with a sad face, with a suitcase in his hand about to enter the Maritime Station of Vigo, and behind him, his family saying goodbye.
