Bowling alley
Luang Prabang Bowling Alley is a popular hangout spot located outside the city center of Luang Prabang in Laos. It is the only place open after midnight, making it a favorite among tourists looking for late-night fun. The alley features a restaurant and bar serving food and drinks until 2 AM, creating a lively atmosphere with good music and live sports. Additionally, visitors can enjoy archery at the venue.
This is so much fun. Times have changed but the bowling alley is still one of the best hot spots to party and have fun after 00:00. We had such a blast bowling and shooting arrows. There was great party music and everyone was having a great time. Definitely come here for a round of 4 with a group of at least 6.
Roald W — Google review
Cheap family fun! Excellent way to spend some time if it's rainy outside. 50k kip per person per game. Water and other drinks available. Archery also available outside (undercover area). We went mid morning and no one else was there, but staff friendly and helpful. Worth a short tuk tuk trip there.
Travel J — Google review
So much fun! Came here twice during our time in Luang Prabang, the only place that’s open til late and has a good atmosphere. 50,000lak per person per game of bowling, very straight forward, there’s a bar and many taxis waiting outside all night. If you want to go when it’s busy then I’d say between 11pm-1am is the best time, if you go between 6-9pm it’ll most likely be empty. You can also have a go at archery outside for 20,000lak (7 arrows).
Leo G — Google review
We came here to play bowling, but when we came at around 5pm was it closed. Even though the doors were open. But the locals told us it was closed and to come back around 10.pm. While the doors were open there were no lights on, and everything felt abandoned. We just wanted to play before everyone that just comes there to drink.
Marie B — Google review
went here tonight with my family around 7pm since it was raining out, and we had a great time. it was completely empty besides us. it was 50k(2.50usd)for one bowling game per person & 20k (.93¢usd) per 7 arrows for archery
Allison H — Google review
We arrived at 9pm and we were alone. You pay 50.000 kip per person for 1 game of bowling. It was nice though.
Marc H — Google review
Fun way to spend an hour in the afternoon with kids. Unexpected! We were the only ones there which was delightful.

Great chilled please to hang out good music good beer and also you can do archery 🏹

Flea & Street Markets
Luang Prabang Night Market is a vibrant and bustling hub of local culture, offering an array of remarkable handicrafts and traditional Lao garments. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry as they browse through finely woven textiles, intricate wooden creations, authentic pottery, delicate silver jewellery, and vibrant silk scarves. The market also boasts a variety of delectable street foods and local specialties like the renowned Luang Prabang sausage.
Prices for the same items are nearly the exact same at all the shops. Items aren’t all that expensive so you could bargain if you are really short on cash, but otherwise it’s good to help the locals, it’s all relatively inexpensive anyways. It’s a good night market for souvenir hunting. Shirts, handmade goods, local food and whiskey. Many options to choose from
B — Google review
The market is nice and clean. Nobody was forcing me to buy stuff from them. So even if i am just looking they are ok with that. Which is the best thing trust me. Mostly there are crafts and local things you can buy from here. A good place to spend your evenings. Lots of cafes and bars to enjoy dinner
Deepti G — Google review
So much to look at. Many beautiful handmade items to buy. Or just for a walk and soak up the atmosphere. The food court had many options. Locd everything about Luang Prabang and the people
Saint — Google review
Certainly! The Luang Prabang Night Market is one of the highlights of any visit to this charming UNESCO town. Every evening, the main street transforms into a lively and colorful walking street filled with hundreds of stalls selling handcrafted goods, delicious local food, and unique souvenirs. What makes this market special is its laid-back atmosphere and strong focus on local culture. Many of the vendors are artisans from nearby villages, offering beautiful handwoven textiles, traditional wood carvings, and silver jewelry. It’s a great place to find authentic Lao crafts while supporting local communities. The food section is a real treat — tucked away in a side alley, you’ll find an array of affordable and tasty Lao dishes like grilled meats, noodle soups, fresh spring rolls, and tropical fruit smoothies. Everything is cooked fresh, and the variety is impressive. The market is well-organized, clean, and easy to walk through. It’s not overwhelming like some markets in Southeast Asia, which makes the experience more enjoyable. Prices are reasonable, and friendly bargaining is welcomed. Overall, the Luang Prabang Night Market is more than just a place to shop — it’s a vibrant cultural experience. Whether you’re looking for a unique gift, trying street food, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, this market captures the soul of Luang Prabang beautifully. Highly recommended for: ✔️ Cultural lovers ✔️ Foodies ✔️ Anyone who enjoys browsing local markets in a relaxed, friendly setting
Savon V — Google review
Plenty of food options and lots of cute stalls to explore. Some items in the crafts market may feel a bit overpriced, but considering the craftsmanship and effort from local artisans, it feels fair and well worth supporting.
Shri V — Google review
I liked the night market visually, nicely lit and quite long. I would have appreciated the food the most, because the products did not impress me much. T-shirts with elephant outfits and small wallets for documents. But overall a nice atmosphere. Anyone who visits this city should take a walk here
Filip R — Google review
Very lively and there are plenty of stuff to see, buy and eat. The beautiful lighting of a temple. Friendly vendors and they were not pushy!
Bar A — Google review
Great place to wander around. Lots of handicrafts, clothing, souvenirs made from bomb metal, and food options on side streets. Most sellers speak English and Chinese

Lounge
Utopia Bar & Restaurant is a hidden gem located along the Nam Khan river, offering a serene and idyllic dining experience. During the day, visitors can enjoy the lush green tropical garden and partake in morning yoga sessions. At night, the venue transforms into a candle-lit chill-out lounge with live music, attracting backpackers and travelers seeking a laid-back atmosphere.
Really cool place with spectacular view of the river. First night we came for beers and cocktails - they're simple but quite good. Next morning we came back for my first ever yoga class (7.30 am drop in class - 40,000 kip) and I really enjoyed it - great way to start your morning. We then stayed here for breakfast and it was absolutely amazing - my girlfriend had Shakshuka bowl and I had Huevos Rancheros - both dishes were incredibly tasty. I'm pretty sure we'll come back again tomorrow and the rest of our stay.
Vai. I — Google review
A real chilled bar overlooking the river. Great service. I had chicken snack, it’s quite pricey considering the amount and tasted average. I heard, a friend said pizza is good. The place is quite large with many areas to preferences like river terrace with lying pillow, bar counter, tables. Location wise, it’s quite deep in a small alley but not that difficult to find.
Jah P — Google review
Quite good sunset experience in here. Very nice place located at the end of a dead end street. The setup of the bar is super nice and chill, you can easily relax and enjoy the view. There’s a happy hour on Lao cocktails, they were good and couldn’t feel the Lao Lao much but refreshing anyway. Recommend this place for sunset, the Freedom fries were good as well, you can be sure it is homemade.
Arnaud T — Google review
The food was lush, the scenery was beautiful and overall a lovely experience. It’s chilled during the day and then like a bar at night. Many vegetarian and vegan options so me and my partner could both eat happy there. Plus it’s reasonably priced for travellers.
Shannen S — Google review
Chilled with a capital C! A great place to lounge around over looking the Nam Khan river. Many cushions, beanbags to relax on or tables and chairs if you want a meal. Nice selection on the menu, especially some exotic smoothie. We visited for lunch and think it must be really cool at night too. Not easy to stumble upon so follow the signs or Google maps!
Vincent O — Google review
It's tricky to get there. The location is very relaxed and well furnished directly to the river. We like their philosophy. The staff was friendly but quite slow and unattentive. Everything took much longer than in other places. Food was okay. The pulled pork sandwich was a bit boring from the taste, spices were missing. The chicken sate was a bit dry, but the sauce was excellent.
Fab I — Google review
Great atmosphere and place to relax in a beautiful surrounding. The place is much larger than we expected with plenty of sitting areas, table, chairs, bean bags and even sleeping mats. They seem to encourage you to hangout and chill. We also enjoyed the cauliflower wings, spicy chicken tacos which were not spicy at all, as well as the cocktails and drinks. The prices are comparable to the many restaurants around but without the cool vibe.
Virginia A — Google review
5 stars for creating a cool Bohemian place with a great river view and super chill vibe. Hilariously challenging to find without Google Maps, but you will know when you have found "Utopia". Delicious, clean food, a deep, wide coctail menu -- with a Moscow Mule made with their own homemade ginger beer (not bad). Prices are reasonable. Recommend to go before sunset to lounge and enjoy the view. Plan to spend some time here! Don't regret overlooking this place. [Please "like" if you find this review helpful]

Wat Xiengthong is a Buddhist temple complex in Luang Prabang, Laos, known for its ornate shrines, prayer halls, and gardens. Built in 1560 by King Setthathirath, the temple showcases traditional Lao architecture with sweeping two-tiered roofs and intricate mosaics. Visitors can admire the beautiful tree of life glass montage on the rear temple wall and explore numerous gold statues, deities, and sacred Buddha relics.
A beautiful collection of temples large and small. The architecture and decorations of these temples are stunning and is very peaceful if it’s quiet. Please remember to be respectful: dress modestly, don’t be too loud, take shoes and/or hats off when stated, and don’t bother the monks! Entrance fee is 30,000k and you can only enter via the south entrance.
Linde M — Google review
A beautiful Wat. No other way to describe it. Last visited in 2018 and just as beautiful as then, perhaps with a little more tourists. Personally found the late afternoon light was best choice for photos. Peaceful, charming and a little slice of Buddhist Laos.
John S — Google review
This temple is incredible! It is among the most beautiful ones that I have seen in SE Asia. Full of gold and decorations in- and around the main temple and its neighbouring temple. Best to visit at end of the day, since it is quiet then. During the day, it can be busy with busses full of (mainly Chinese) tourists that visit this temple with a tour in big groups.
Luuk — Google review
Wat Xieng Thong is a stunning temple, famous for its elegant, low-sweeping roofs and intricate mosaics. Located where the two rivers meet, it’s a peaceful, must-see spot for anyone interested in classic Laotian architecture and culture.
UEM — Google review
There are so many temples all over Luang Prabang it is hard to say one is better than another, and generally this one is pretty good. They don’t seem to do much to repair damage to worn areas.
David L — Google review
Very beautiful temple which is spiritual heart of Laos and richly decorated. The 16th-century Wat Xieng Thong is a notable example of the town's sophisticated reliious architecture.
Curvy K — Google review
Wat Xieng Thong located at the northern tip of the peninsula of Luang Prabang is a temple built by King Setthatirath around 1560. It occupies fairly large grounds and the main temple is lavishly furnished and beautiful. It served as a royal temple and a significant site for religious ceremonies, embodying the spiritual and artistic heritage of Laos.

worth to spend up to 30 mins to pass by, but unfortunately, no much info to know more about the history of this temple. Paying small entrance fees to help reserve this historical site.

Bar
Icon Klub, located in the heart of Luang Prabang's old town, is a quirky and awesome bar founded by Elizabeth, a Hungarian native who fell in love with the city. The establishment boasts Dada-esque art and a friendly clientele, making it easy to strike up conversations and make new friends from around the world.
It’s my first stop when I arrive in Luang Prabang. There’s good reason, Lisa, the bartender owner has won the accolades of the New York Times, The Daily telegraph and numerous other publications. Atmospheric. Premium liquors. Creative and classic cocktails. Warm and engaging host.
C C — Google review
What a cool little place! Warm, inviting and inspiring. The drinks I had were very good... Sure, they may be a little pricier than alternatives, but I was quickly inspired to have more drinks so I could soak up that atmosphere a bit longer. I thought it was a kitschy dive bar when I saw it from the street...It is anything but. Worth a visit and a re-visit.
William J — Google review
Bravo! Icon Klub’s charm never disappoints & still the best cocktail lounge in Luang Prabang. Congrats.
Stephen G — Google review
Nice bar to chill out after a long walk. Friendly service, but the cocktails are very pricey, which costs $15 for Pho Gin&Tonic.
Ming M — Google review
Google Maps says "Open" but a sign on the Bar door says "open in June". Today is 7:00pm, the 3rd of June 2025 and it's still not open. Back in April 2017 the bar was also closed cause Elizabeth, the owner/manager/bartender, didn't like getting wet during the Songkran water festival. Well that"s what she told me in December 2017 when I finally met her. Maybe this "she'll be right" Lao attitude has got to her. Yes Patience is a virtue unless you have spent $$$ getting to this bar in Lao and have less than 1 week in Luang Prabang!
Peter H — Google review
Cool, unassuming bar serving good cocktails from a comprehensive list. Fair prices, good tunes, great bartender. A great place to start the evening before dinner or to end up at after dinner.

Market
The Luang Prabang morning market is a vibrant and bustling place where local vendors sell an array of goods, including fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and handmade textiles. Visitors can immerse themselves in the cultural richness by exploring traditional Lao garments, marveling at intricate Hmong embroidery, and admiring crafts from hill tribes.
Very local and touristy market at the same time. We liked to pickup some sticky rice with some barbecue grilled meat, sausages and eat at a coffee stall right in the middle of the market. If we ever come back to Luang Prabang and stay at an Airbnb with kitchen, I’d not miss the chance to go to this fresh market and cook Lao dishes, the herbs and veggies here were just mind blowing. Things we tried and liked: mungbean cake, coconut crepe, seaweed floss with sticky rice, Lao sausage, fermented pork, some sweet dessert dipped in coconut flakes, coconut milk dessert Things we tried and didn’t like: grilled banana (too dry), bee wax (might be good as ingredient to cook but eaten just bee wax like this was…meh), croissant (curious to try but it was a no go 😂)
Tam L — Google review
Strolling around and try the sticky rice, bamboo shot local curry, mixed vegetables salad Luang Prabang recipe is amazing for me. Seeing way of folk life and chit chat to them is such a lovely.
Susan P — Google review
If you want a real taste of local life in Luang Prabang, you’ve got to check out the Morning Market. We went super early—around 7am—and it was the perfect way to jump-start the day. You’ll see everything from fresh produce to surprises you definitely don’t see back home (we spotted some Sapa fish split wide open and even a skinned weasel…wild stuff!).It’s mostly for locals, so you get that authentic vibe—lots of sights, smells, and a few things that will totally throw you off in a good way. We picked up some coffee and wandered the stalls for a while, and honestly, it’s a must if you want to see the real rhythm of Luang Prabang. Just bring your curiosity (and maybe skip breakfast until you get here)!
Mario F — Google review
Must see if you’ve never been to a wet market without the odors of a standard wet market. With cooked food, vegetables, fruit, to freshly caught fish/birds and larvae, this is a great way to see how the locals do their shopping. Oct 2024

Very local market. Interesting to see how the local people shop for food and necessities. It is open dairy. If you have a weak stomach, pass this by.
David L — Google review
Loved it!! We went around 6am and it was mostly locals buying fruits and vegetables. There are some prepared foods, and the spring roll we got was SO delicious. Lots of raw meats and fresh produce. Some curries, fried foods, street meat, etc. Overall a big vibe, would recommend.

Tamarind is a unique establishment in Laos that serves as both a restaurant and a cooking school. Founded by an Australian woman and her Lao partner, Tamarind aims to offer visitors an exotic experience while educating them about Laotian cuisine. The restaurant sources ingredients from local suppliers, contributing to the community while introducing guests to the wonders of Lao food.
They offer very good dishes and above average hospitality. Due to budget limit, I ordered 3 dishes, fish in banana, sticky rice and sweet sticky rice with banana, mango and tamarind sauce. They all tasted good and well- cooked in new way. I would love to cook these dishes back home.

food was authentic and tasted very good, we took the bamboo soup and a set sharing menu for two of us, was all delicious. nice ambiance, and excellent service. We liked a lot the bamboo chips and the laolao rice whisky, we tried three flavors! The chilly one is great! Haha we like spicy. We preferred the table inside because there was not much to see and enjoy along the street. I definitely recommend this place. And we would come back to try also other dishes too.
Francesca Y — Google review
We went for lunch, wanted to try a little bit of everything so went with a tasting menu - some of it really good, some not for my taste. Service was excellent and the tamarind drink was definitely interesting. We liked the mango sticky rice with black rice the best

We had a fantastic evening at Tamarind Restaurant, where we chose to try the vegan tasting menu. It was an excellent decision. The dishes were all incredibly fresh and vibrant, and it was clear that each one had been prepared with great care and attention to detail. The generous use of fresh, local herbs made every bite a delight. The entire experience was enhanced by the wonderful service. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to explain each dish and its traditional Laotian context. This guidance added an authentic layer to the meal, showing us not just what to eat, but how to eat it. Tamarind offers a perfect blend of authentic Laotian cuisine, high-quality ingredients, and outstanding service. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly memorable meal in Luang Prabang.

I like this restaurant and I came here 3 times during visiting Luang Prabang. The restaurant serve the traditional Laotian foods and very unique. Full of favourites and very tasty. We ordered Bamboo soup and Som moo sour pork and it was fantastic 😋 highly recommend. The only dish that I would avoided is Stir fried Basil leaf with Frog 🐸 if you don't eat a whole Frog. It was not just a Frog's legs but the whole body of Frog's with skin. The staff was so friendly and he said Laos people eat the whole Frog. We came again to try another dishes and the staff gave us a house dessert.
Curvy K — Google review
The best restaurant we visited in Luang Prabang! All the food and drink we tried (we ordered the vegan set) was absolutely delicious, an explosion of different flavours and really big portions. The service was super attentive, explained all the dishes and how to eat them. We got the impression that they really cared about bringing Laotian food culture to tourists. We also booked a cooking class with them which was a fantastic experience as well! Can only recommend❤️

Dyen Sabai Restaurant and Bar is a must-visit spot for adventurous eaters in town. This Lao-style BBQ restaurant offers a laid-back dining experience with mostly reclined seating and stunning views of the Nam Khan River. The restaurant features several plateaus where diners can enjoy their meals, each offering riverside views, making it an ideal stop for those looking to immerse themselves in the local dining scene while enjoying the picturesque surroundings.
This was by far the best meal we have had in Southeast Asia in nine days. The setting is phenomenal, a wide drinks menu and amazing food. We had buffalo with sticky rice and the coconut soup with tofu. Both amazing. Waiters get lost in the shadows after the food is served. This restaurant is a must if in Luang Prabang and also reasonably priced.

I love this kind off BBQ and i got this restaurant accidentally. Food was so good and not so expensive Staffs are so helpful and nice The vibe here is so romantic, you will have the view to the river I came in the evening but during the day have a best view also Highly recommend 👍

Are you a vegetarian? There is a dish here that blew my mind. Warm tomato dip, fried mushrooms and a warm aubergine dip, served with sticky rice, seaweed crackers and cabbage leaves. Divinely delicious. The site is beautiful, with varied seating and view on the river. We came here for lunch and then did the silver workshop right next door. A perfect day.

This is a very beautiful place to have lunch or dinner. The tables are dispersed on different levels. The food on offer is very good. In previous years, there was a bamboo bridge to easily cross the water. At the moment of writing, there was a free shutlle boat nearby Going by foot over the French bridge takes about half an hour and is a nice walk.

Renowned chilling spot in LP for tourists (I didn't find many locals come here). Okay food, okay drinks. Consider ordering Lao BBQ here as prices were way too high compared with other local BBQ (Sindat) in town. Good view of Nam Khan river though. No car parking. Bikes only.

We had Lao salad and chicken barbecue tonight. It was one of the most mesmerizing dining experiences during our vacation: The view over the water (you're sitting just next to it) is outstanding and the food is excellent quality (barbecuing it yourself is a heck of fun). We were served by two trainees and one waitress who all were excellent. I can recommend this restoration by any means to anyone who seeks a unique dining experience. Prices are (very) fair.

Redbul Sport Bar is a popular spot for budget-friendly drinks and a lively atmosphere. It's known for its regulars who love the pool table and the variety of affordable liquor-plus-mixer drinks. The bar is a great place to catch live sporting events while enjoying reasonably priced drinks and tasty food options. The ambiance is enjoyable, especially during happy hour, with friendly staff catering to patrons.
Prominent corner location in the Unesco Heritage city center. Cool relaxed ambiance. Ideal for a drink or food with friends. I recommend the very well prepared mojito made with local rhum 👍

Played pool here, playing is free but the sticks are questionable. Drink prices can vary a lot, so be careful when ordering. Some can be 100,000 for a shot and other times it’s 30,000 for two beers.

We like the bar, great atmosphere and music. The drinks were too strong for me, but the others will probably appreciate it. The service was nice and good English speaking. I give 4 stars, because when we paid we were included drinks, which we did not have. Overall, we were satisfied.

I’m a huge fan of the mango-pineapple smoothie! In fact I get one everyday ♥️ The bartender is super friendly & remembers me in spite of not having an alcoholic beverage! Very welcoming, highly recommend.

A very Good restaurant to have food and drink. Downside they have only glass of lao beer on Tap and nothing towers or Jugs available. Rest everything was great.

We had a great time here. Bar is well stocked. Staff are competent and friendly. Pizza was pretty good (not legendary, but just fine). I brought some chili peppers with me and they diced them up and put them on the pizza for me. Good music and lively atmosphere. A little bit pricey but not outrageous. Also, one of the few places I found in town with draft beer.

This place is a vibe! And they accept Credit Card! Server was so nice and understood my broken Laotian (mostly English, haha). They currently have it decorated for Halloween and when I ordered the mushroom soup as an appetizer, the kitchen made a little ghost from the cream! So cute! Music was also vibin'. Highly recommend. FYI: There will always be a 3% surcharge when using your CC anywhere you go in Laos.

Maolin Tavern is a popular spot in Luang Prabang, known for its unique atmosphere and diverse menu. The restaurant offers a mix of Lao snacks and Western dishes such as steak, mussels, and cheese boards. Despite the wide range of offerings, visitors appreciate the friendly ambiance and pleasant terrace. Located on Sisavangvong Road in the Old Town peninsula, it's conveniently situated near the night market.
Very good variety of food and drink options! Had a pho soup that was REALLY accurate as the vietnamese ones. 69kip The eggs were surprisingly tasty and they had raclette cheese in it!! 79kip AMAZING. 10/10 both ✨ If you like beer they have a HUGE menu of them and a bit expensive prices for the imported one but worth it if you miss your comfort drink. 🍻 Great environment and vibe. No extra fees or charges, just the right price. ✅

Well worth the visit! Amazing to see how this organization helps to preserve and promote local heritage and craft. We came outside of the normal demonstration times by the free tuktuk & didnt expect much. We were blown away by the very informative free tour that was given to us and the incredible work being done by the masters and artisans working here. Definitely come and visit when in LP. Also a large shop containing a huge variety of locally made artisan goods, many different items than their shop in town.

This is a place to explore and soaking up the local way of life in Luang Prabang. Beautiful place but service from the entrance must be improved. They seems not welcome the customer and not helpful on the rainy day. The girls in the shop was great. We purchased a few things from here.

Visiting the Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Centre was an absolute delight! We were lucky to visit during their 25th anniversary week, which made it even more special. It was fascinating to learn about the inspiring story of founders Jo and Veo, and their ongoing commitment to empowering women and preserving the traditional weaving heritage of Laos. We spent the day immersed in the world of silk—learning about silkworms, dyeing techniques, and weaving our own scarves while watching the artisans demonstrate their incredible skills. The setting, right on the peaceful banks of the Mekong River, made the experience even more magical. We ended the day with a delicious meal at their riverside restaurant, Silk Road, picked up some beautiful souvenirs at the gift shop, and enjoyed the complimentary tuk-tuk ride back to our hotel, Baan Pila, which is also part of their charming collection. A truly meaningful and memorable experience - highly recommended!

The spirit and grace of Ock Pop Tok is really something amazing. Great cafe, top quality fiber art & mastercraft, fantastic workshops!

Tried my hand at silk weaving at Ock Pop Tock ❤️ Watching the master weavers set up patterns on the loom strangely reminded me of coding. Each row like a line of code and each thread a part of an algorithm. It’s like math, art, and tradition all woven into one. I loved learning the meaning behind each pattern and how deeply it’s tied to their history and culture. And felt inspired by how this social enterprise empowers women from local villages to earn sustainable income through their craft. 💚🧵

I spent an entire day at this center, attending an embroidery class in the morning and a bamboo weaving class in the afternoon. The center is located south of Luang Prabang, and a tuk-tuk provided by the school will take you there in just a few minutes. It's a beautiful place overlooking the Mekong River. Here, the teachers -expert artisans supported by a translator- are incredibly kind, helpful, and patient. They will guide you step by step through the basic techniques of their craft. I loved every moment I spent here, including the delicious Laotian lunch that was part of the package. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience: it’s a wonderful way to immerse yourself in Laos’ rich artisanal traditions while enjoying a peaceful and relaxing day.

My husband and I stayed at Ock Pop Tok during our honeymoon. It was the perfect, peaceful place to land after an adventurous motobike trip in Ha Giang. We enjoyed a riverfront suite, which was spacious and comfortable. The staff left daily gifts, deeply rooted in local cultural. It was very educational! I attended an embroidery workshop - which I would highly recommend - and my teacher (Chiantry) and translator (Oun) were so patient and kind to me ! We ate at the Silk Road Cafe / Restaurant everyday, and were so pleased with the diverse and delicious menu. OPT provided a free tuuk tuuk, which we used daily to go downtown and explore. The staff (Namfon, Santi!) were so kind and helpful - they helped us coordinate all of our local activites (Kiang Si Waterfall, Sunset River Cruise, etc). I have no suggestions on improvements - OPT is nailing the social enterprise / tourism game!

The National Museum in Luang Prabang is housed in a grand former royal palace and offers a captivating glimpse into Laos' rich cultural heritage. The museum showcases an impressive collection of ancient relics, traditional textiles, intricately crafted sculptures, and religious artifacts that narrate the nation's history. Visitors can explore the well-designed layout that guides them through various exhibits, providing insights into the evolution of Laotian society and the enduring influence of Buddhism over the centuries.
*Bring Pants if you are going to visit the museum or else you will have to rent long bottoms for 10k kip. Also visit the locker room first to put all your stuff away to avoid a walk back* No cameras or phones allowed in the museum, but I think its for the better, take your time and read about the artifacts, its all very interesting if you are into history, they even have a piece of the moon in the collection, see if you can find it. The museum is beautiful on the inside, and seeing how the king and queen lived is very interesting. The outside garden and temple are also very nice to walk around it’s all well kept. I recommend taking your time here ❤️🇱🇦

A visit to the Royal Palace and National Museum was more than worth it. It costs 60,000 kip for foreigners. If you want to visit the palace and you wear shorts, for example, you have to rent long trousers for 10,000 kip. Entry is closed approximately 20 minutes before closing time. Both the temple and the palace showcase part of Lao history. You can also learn more about it with a free audio guide that you can open on your phone. Handy!
Marco — Google review
the english is really limited but this is not a problem, the place is so good to visit, ticket is 60.000 KIP for foreigner, I can spend around 45-60 minutes here. They have to gates: entrance and exit, around 4PM, they will close the entrance gate, you can not bring camera, bags but you can keep it in small lockers in the house which is near to the theater. You also are not allowed to wear hat, short pant that do not cover knees, can not take photo inside.

The National Museum is also known as “Haw Kham” or "Golden Hall") was once Laos’ Royal Palace. Built in 1904, it has a mix of Lao traditional and French style. It was built for King Sisavang Vong and his family during the French colonial era. The front wing hosts the King's reception hall with paintings of the Lao monarchy, prized Buddha statues and gifts from various heads of state. The premises also include the Throne Hall and royals residential area and a building that houses the King's car collection. Photos are not allowed inside the museum. Worth a visit
CK C — Google review
This is the closest thing to a real museum I saw in the city. Lots of memorabilia from last kings. Worth a look though. The temple on the grounds is ok. It is also the site of the ballet.
David L — Google review
The palace and the 60,000 kip ticket price for foreigners are reasonable. What is unacceptable is selling a ticket without informing visitors that they won’t be allowed inside the buildings if their knees are exposed. Scarves are available for rent here for 10,000 kip with a deposit of 100,000 kip. Later, on the palace, some visitors walk around with the scarves pulled up — but no one seems to care about bare knees anymore
Kvionochka — Google review
Amazing place to visit while you are staying in Luang Prabang. Love the architecture and the displays of the exhibition. The only thing is it’s super hot when you are walking in the garden in the afternoon as it’s exposed to the sun and you are wearing long clothings, so maybe go visit early.

Joma Bakery Café in Luang Prabang is a popular spot offering vegetarian dining options and end-of-the-day discounts on baked goods. With two locations on the main street, one near the post office and the other near Wat Sene, it's convenient for visitors to find. The café provides outdoor seating with fans for a comfortable experience in the heat or indoor seating with air-conditioning and charging sockets.
Standardised Western Establishment with standardised prices Lasagne was 98000kip. Pretty pricey in local context but considering the establishment, well worth the price. Lasagne was nice, I really enjoyed their garlic bread which was well toasted and mightily flavourful. Serving time was decent, nice ambience with an air-con room on the second level.

The atmosphere outside looks inviting as well how the pastries look like when you get in. They have wide space on the 2nd floor to dine in but the smell isn’t that good. The price coffee and food are pretty much pricey. I even ordered a large size of hot macchiato but I got a small one or I don’t know if they have a smaller size than that.

Every please read before making your reviews in LAOS!!! I saw many French people are giving bad reviews to this place, then came to see by myself. I have to say that please don't believe on these people's opinions. I have been many cities in France where nobody where able to speak any single word - even they weren't not able to say hello in English - and these people are coming here and complaining about why locals don't speak in English. Believe me Laos people speaks better in English then most of the French people in France. I saw many French youngsters who can't behave properly in Laos, when you are visiting new country try to learn their culture and respect, behave accordingly, if you don't respect ofcourse you will be kicked-out in every single place. Sorry but i must say these after reading all these reviews - which made me to think double before coming here. I'm happy that I came to see by myself. Laos people are learning, improving themselves all the times and it will get better and better. Try to respect for it, most of them are youngsters who wants to build their life. About the bakery - I loved a lot , they have many varieties, prices are very good that locals also can effort to eat. Coffee quality is amazing 😍 cakes are well done as in France. Thank you guys for this great place. Keep going.

An iconic cafe. Great atmosphere with a nice view of the street and the temple. Used my hotel bicycle to get there and parked it just outside the entrance so that I could keep a watch on it - the bicycle did not have a lock. Nice espresso coffee served using tiny and dainty cutlery. The French Toasts (thought the French would call them "English Toasts) tasted great with dollops of accompanying honey. Their baguettes and croissants looked tasty so I packed them up for lunch time eating on the China train I was to take later in the day. Definitely great croissants! The service too was cheery. Glad to have 'been there done that'!

Visited this place twice during my stay. The goat cheese salad is great! Staffs are very attentive and friendly. It is a good spot to hide from the rain yet soaking in the old town vibe
Cherm N — Google review
This place was on our list after reading all the good reviews. When we walked in we were greeted by the polite staff and saw their amazing looking menu. Atmosphere: Good atmosphere. Nice decorations. Service: Generally good service. They were polite and sat us down and gave us complimentary water. There were a few things that they could improve but it's mostly just minor things. For example they could top up the water once it is finished. Also the cutlery they originally gave us was dirty, but they did reconcile it once we brought it up to be fair. Food: My oh my was the food terrible. And we were really hungry also 😫 I originally asked for a french pancake with goat cheese and the waitress informed me that they did not have it. So I asked for her recommendation and she pointed to the paninis. I ordered a Panini with smoked ham, and the waitress came a few moments later to inform me that they did not have smoked ham, only cooked ham and if that was ok, to which I declined. So I ordered a quiche with goat cheese and spinach, and when it arrived I was immediately disappointed with the portion, but then it didn't even matter because I didn't finish it as it was completely tasteless. The person with me ordered a chicken burger which was also pretty tasteless, although not as bad as mine. TL;DR Café looks amazing but the food they serve is terrible, but with good presentation.
Adíb M — Google review
This is a centrally located French inspired cafe that serves an assortment of beverages including coffees and teas (both hot and cold) and juices. In addition, it has a nice selection of salads, sandwiches, quiches, pizzas and French pancakes (crepes). The cafe also includes a small shop that sells various products imported from France such as hygienic items, canned goods, biscuits and wines. I had the tuna salad and club sandwich with ham and cheese. They were both fresh and tasty. I had a ginger tea and creamy hot chocolate and both were excellent. The service staff was friendly, efficient and English speaking. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. This is a perfect place to relax with a coffee, have a pastry and connect with a laptop.

We loved this cafe. Great place for a late brunch/lunch. I had a set menu with coffee, salad and fish with rice. The food was delicious. We also ordered a croissant which was superb. A very cozy, clean cafe to sit and watch the streets. I highly recommend this chilled place with great food and kind waiters. It is also super clean, but most of all, the food was delicious

Cafe Ban Vat Sene is a charming spot in the heart of Luang Prabang, offering a cozy, laid-back atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing or people-watching. The location is ideal, right on the main street, and the cafe itself has a nice mix of local charm with comfortable seating. The menu includes both Lao and Western dishes, so there’s something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for a local specialty or a Western comfort dish. Top brunch spot, the Feta and Bacon baguette was incredible. I didn’t realise I was craving it until I’d had it! The crunchy baguette and soft bread rolls were a real treat, as it can be difficult to find the style of bread we’re used to. Only problem is it’s our last day in Luang Prabang so we won’t get to return tomorrow:)

Laos has the unique taste of French culture infused within the city streets. It permeates in all of the architecture, a large number of tourist and of course all things culinary. We broke away from our routine search of Thai and Laotian this evening and opted to try one of the French bistros along the Sakarine road. We just so happened to stop at Ban Vat Sene and we’re very pleased with our choice. My girlfriend was craving a little something closer to home so she ordered the spaghetti bolognese and a small Neapolitan pizza, and I ordered pho with chicken as well as duck and yellow noodle. All the dishes were prepared and plated beautifully. Everything tasted amazing and felt fresh. We were fortunate enough to have a seat on the walkway itself, enabling us to soak up all the street action while enjoying every bite. The staff and service were top notch and for four dishes and waters, our total was less than 24 dollars Canadian, which I still can’t wrap my head around. It almost feels criminal to eat such high quality at such a low price. Please go support, you will not regret it! To Alex, thank you for seating us and tending to us so graciously. Wishing you all the success in your education and your future. Much love!

We came here a second time after lunch just to try their desserts and baguette. The food is really good but can be pricey for South east Asia. I thought it was worth it just for the food alone. The baguette are freshly baked and insanely delicious, the baguette alone gets 5 stars. Desserts and the garlic baguette were pretty good as well.

Le Cafe Ban Vat Sene is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Laos (very close to Wat Sensoukharam (Ban Vat Sene temple)), offering a unique twist on Italian cuisine that pleasantly surprises the taste buds. After a long morning exploring the city, we stepped into the cozy ambiance of Le Cafe Ban Vat Sene where we were greeted warmly by the staff and comfortably seated at a table close to the bar/kitchen. Our party of 8, opted for the set menu consisting of our choice of: Salada Oceane: Tuna, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Onion and Black Olives followed by a choice between Spaghetti a la Carbonara or Lasagne de Boeuf (Beef Lasagna) followed by a choice between Slade de Fruits Frais (fresh fruit salad) or Sorbet au citron vert (lime sorbet). The carbonara dish combined the creamy richness of traditional carbonara with the aromatic flavors of Laotian spices and herbs. The pasta was cooked al dente, and the sauce was velvety smooth, with pieces of crispy pork belly adding a delightful crunch. Overall, dining at Le Cafe Ban Vat Sene was a delightful surprise from the attentive and efficient service to the inviting ambiance and delicious cuisine make it a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the culinary diversity of Laos.

Great coffee in the town! I had ice Americano and it was very refreshing and nice. I bought a bag of coffee beans which was roasted just a week before the purchase and tried on my own espresso machine once I returned to my home. It was so good, I wish I bought more. Highly recommended!

Way too expensive for the quality of the food, We've heard a lot of good things about this restaurant on social media. We were very surprised to see that the prices online and in the restaurant have gone up. I ordered a ceaser salad, which came very small, with bacon, not chicken. My partner also ordered a very small sandwich, and you have to add a supplement for 4 fries. I do not recommend this cafe at all; you can find much better options for less.

Such a lovely place to enjoy a lazy day. Great cider & tea. Carrot cake a bit dry to my taste. Beautiful view watch the boats float by. Highly recommended for the view!

Excellent falafel wrap, pretty cheap for the quality (60 000kip, really generous portion). They have an upstairs room with windows on the Mekong River, nice too study or work or just have a great time. They have a nice terrace on the river as well.

We came here after arriving in Luang by sleeper bus from Hanoi. After a total of 36 hours travel this place was exactly what we needed. We had scrambled eggs on toast which sounds simple but was honestly so delicious. Their homemade sourdough is amazing and the egg was perfectly cooked. We also tried some of their cakes, the carrot cake and banana bread were both lovely. It is also situated by the river and is a lovely place to enjoy a meal.
Hamish G — Google review
I might have expected too much because of the good reviews about the carrot cake, but it was just okay. The one with cream was sold out, but they gave me some on the side. The cake itself was a bit dry, and the cream was a firm, barely sweetened whipped cream with almost no flavor. They accept credit cards, which is convenient. Staff were polite, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the cappuccino was good.

The Belle Rive Terrace is a charming riverside restaurant that offers stunning views of the Mekong River and nearby mountains. It's an ideal spot for a peaceful breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or a romantic dinner. The menu features a variety of Thai and Lao specialties, as well as international and fusion dishes. Nestled among trees, this hideaway provides both outdoor seating with beautiful river views and indoor seating for those seeking shade on hot days.
All good here, food quality, price, wine by the glass (considering location). Lovely folk and service, Bee, our waiter was excellent and attentive. Table 53 to far LHS has best unblocked sunset views ;-) You will need to reserve, though, or you'll end up looking at the back of folks heads as it gets popular.

*Unforgettable riverside dining with heartwarming service!* Our visit to The Belle Rive Terrace in Luang Prabang more times was truly special. The location is beautiful, right along the Mekong River — peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a relaxed meal. The food was excellent, full of flavor and beautifully presented. What made the experience even more memorable was the birthday celebration. I had messaged the owner, who is a foreigner, and he personally coordinated with his amazing staff to organize everything. The team did a fantastic job — warm, friendly, and very well-organized. They even surprised us with a complimentary birthday cake, which was such a thoughtful gesture! A truly heartwarming experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy great food, a beautiful view, and genuinely caring service.

Amazing place to enjoy the beautiful sunset over Mekong river. Mango sticky rice and mango smoothie were delicious. We didn't take any food but the menu and the way food looks sounds promising. Definitely a place to not be missed when you visit Luang Prabang. Staff is very friendly and always helpful trying to protect all the customers from the hot weather until the sun sets.

excellent. on the river but spacious. all types of seating with lots of different vantage points. standard menu. mango sticky rice was good. coffee fine. staff friendly and quick with good English. lots of places like this but this hits all the needs.

We stopped by the Belle Rive Terrace for sunset and it was absolutely worth it for the view alone. We had cocktails and some snacks while watching the sun go down over the Mekong, and it was a beautiful, relaxing experience. The cocktails were not bad, and while the food was average, it was more than made up for by the setting. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. If you’re in Luang Prabang, this is a great spot to enjoy a drink and watch the sunset.

First restaurant tried in Lauang Prabang. 10/10, very satisfied. The service is fast and friendly, they serve you quickly and you wait 5-10min for your food. I highly recommend this place

Excellent food, perfect view, good staff There is a good menu, it consists of traditional food, salads and soups, some international dishes like noodles and nuggets. Everything is very tasty! Good size of portions, fresh ingredients - we were satisfied! And btw, you can see not only Mekong from the restaurant, but also a sunset. For drinks you can choose wine/sparkling by glasses or by bottle, cocktails and various liquors. Here you can have breakfast as well - different sets including eggs, sausages, croissants, muesli, fruits and etc in different combinations. Staff is perfect - smiley and very attentive.

Pizza restaurant
Restaurant
In the charming town of Luang Prabang, known for its delectable Lao cuisine, there are also diverse dining options to explore. Among these is Secret Pizza, a hidden gem run by an Italian expat. Nestled in a lovely garden setting, this eatery offers wood-fired pizzas, classic lasagne, and homemade gnocchi that rival those found in Italy. The menu is complemented by profiteroles and a selection of fine Italian wines.
Feels like I’m joining a debate on this. Yes, the pizza crust is thin and crispy, and it is one of the best implementation of this style - extremely tasty! Don’t come here expecting thick pan or Neapolitan pizza ;) Ingredients were fresh, staff very polite and the ambience was great. It was cold and they had a small fire for the diners to keep warm. Small suggestions: our pasta dish could’ve used a little less salt and sometimes it was hard to get attention of the staff. But these are really minor things. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Would definitely come back again next time.

Amazing!!! A must if you are in Luang Prabang on a Tuesday or Friday night. I recommend walking as you will see some cool areas of the city that are not touristy. Food is superb. The lasagna was appetizer-size but delicious. My wife and I finished it in 3 bites each - I would need 4-5 of these for a full meal. The pizza is phenomenal! The salad made with the freshest ingredients, like everything on the menu. Highly recommended!
Honest T — Google review
1. Taste of the Pizza: We ordered two types of pizza—one with salami and mushrooms, the other with ham and chicory. The seasoning on both was quite distinct. The salami was flavorful, and the addition of basil gave the meat a nice depth. However, this was the thinnest pizza I’ve ever had—even thinner than a typical thin crust—which meant it cooled down very quickly and affected the overall texture. In the end, it felt more like eating a cracker. The toppings were also quite minimal; an average adult could easily finish a whole pizza on their own. 2. Taste of the Tiramisu: It seemed the tiramisu was freshly made when we ordered it, so it tasted very fresh. The cocoa powder on top wasn’t soggy, which made for a great texture. That said, the portion was quite small. 3. Regarding Some Online Rumors: There’s definitely some truth to the comments about chaotic service. It feels like the owner is focused solely on making the pizzas and has neglected overall management. The staff seem to operate on their own. You need to find your own table and remind the staff to bring you a menu. Even ordering a simple beer can take up to 20 minutes—despite staff standing idly behind the bar. No utensils or napkins are provided with the pizza, and I’m honestly not sure which tradition this practice is based on. 4. Waiting Time: It was raining when we visited, so even though the restaurant was full, we got a table within a few minutes. Still, it took nearly an hour before our pizzas arrived. Luckily, I was mentally prepared for a long wait, so it was manageable. If you come on a nice day, expect an even longer wait. This place is definitely better suited for chatting with friends than for satisfying a hungry stomach. The conversation helped pass the time, which made the wait more bearable. 5. Ambience: The restaurant is tucked away in a small wooden cabin down an alley. The dining area is right next to the pizza oven, and it’s actually quite nice to watch your food being made right in front of you. Conclusion: Ideal for those who have time to spare and enjoy long conversations, or for light eaters on a diet. Personally, while the food was tasty, it wasn’t quite good enough to justify such a long wait. It was good—but that’s about it.

Vegetarian restaurant
Two Little Birds Cafe is a charming vegan eatery in Luang Prabang, run by a local family and surviving the pandemic. The menu features fresh, vegan-friendly dishes like smoothie bowls, vegetable curries, and traditional Lao coffee. Located behind Dao Coffee near Amantaka Hotel, this family-owned establishment offers friendly service and fair prices. Visitors can enjoy delicious food that can be made vegan or vegetarian by default.
Visited this cafe twice and had a great experience both times. The smoothie bowls are the best I've had and I love that the full menu is vegetarian. I'm not veggie, but used this cafe as an opportunity to get more nutrients in while travelling. Highly recommend - quality food and service! ♥️
Robyn — Google review
This place is okay, we just wanted a couple of smoothie bowls and had been recommended to come here. The service wasn’t great for us, felt like we’d been forgotten about - the owner apologised as he thought we’d already ordered. Then I had to ask again for the water we ordered (not the end of the world!) The smoothie bowls were very nice and pretty filling which is what we needed, also presented nicely.
Leo G — Google review
So tasty and so fresh. I came here three days in a row! The summer rolls and smoothie bowls are heavenly. Definitely worth having a meal or two here!!
Melissa D — Google review
Pretty good experience here, the fruit bowl is very refreshing. However, I would say a little more fruit and less yogurt is better. Service is friendly and the staff speak good English. Understandable because this place is crowded with tourist, especially those from the West.

The vegan food was delicious, the staff was friendly and spoke a little bit of English. The prices were very reasonable! Really recommend it!
Daniel G — Google review
The berry smoothie bowl never disappoints. Fresh fruit, yogurt, and berries, sweet, refreshing, and fresh in every bite. So good. Highly recommended.
B.S. K — Google review
Two Little Birds Caffe felt like it was run by a mad scientist who hates fruit. The drinks? Imagine if someone poured you a thimble of juice, buried it in an iceberg, and then drowned it with fizzy water. Voilà, disappointment in a glass. Calling it “refreshing” would be like calling a hangover “a spiritual awakening.” I just wanted actual juice, not a chemistry experiment. The bowls at least tried to save the day. They looked decent and tasted okay, but some of the promised ingredients clearly got lost on their way from the kitchen to the table. Menu says one thing, bowl says “nah.” It wasn’t bad, but it felt like someone photocopied a salad and gave me the grayscale version. Verdict: you won’t leave angry, but you also won’t leave inspired. 3/5.

Theaters
The Royal Ballet Theatre in Luang Prabang showcases traditional Lao folklore performances, including khon (mask) dances and classical dance dramas inspired by the Lao interpretation of the Ramayana/Mahabharat. The shows take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 6:30 pm and last for a few hours. The performance features young actors and actresses telling cultural stories through well-rehearsed plays accompanied by live music.
A wonderful way to spend your evening in Luang Prabang. The music and the dance were really beautiful and captivating. It basically consists of 5 parts, with the second part changing every different day based on a chapter of the Phralak Phralam (Ramayana) they're interpreting. I went to the one where Hanoman brought the ring of Phra Ram (Rama) to Sida (Sita). We were given an information sheet at the entrance, so we could easily follow what was happening. It was a really interesting story and performance. The dancers, especially the ones playing Sida, Hanuman and Totsakhan, did really well. I would go over and over again to watch all the episodes of the Phralak Phralam they're performing. I felt really relaxed, especially thanks to the wonderful traditional music that reminds me of Thailand and Java. Meanwhile, the rest of the performance involves dances from different characters of the Phralak Phralam. Fun fact: the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, once went to this theatre to watch the group performing. Note for interested visitors: 1) The entrance gate is the same with the entrance to the National Museum. After all, the theatre is located on the museum ground 2) We chose the front seats to have a better view. The seats are just normal chairs, so your view would be obscured by people's heads if you were sat in the back
Ignatius N — Google review
A living breathing tradition. The venue is fab. The music - from a live orchestra - brilliant. But… To be honest the dancing was a little disappointing. Most of the traditional ballet/dancing in S E Asia (from indonesia to Cambodia and Thailand) centre around the magnificently ancient Ramayana. In this performance we saw less impressive dancing and story telling. However, overall a wonderful experience and a crying shame that not more of the tourists (especially the hundreds of Chinese in Luang Prabang) who fail to support this, preferring to the sunset (as though that’s not an everyday event)
James M — Google review
A traditional dance can be seen in this theatre on certain nights of the week. There are multiple dances that tell different parts of the story of the Phralak Phralam, the Laos version of the Ramayana. The performers wear traditional dress and masks to bring the many characters to life. It’s a fun way to spend a quiet night in Luang Prabang, performed by local dancers young and old. Though it’s hard to understand if you don’t speak Laos or are familiar with the stories, the dances and the fight scenes are entertaining enough for any tourist to enjoy. I particularly liked the young monkeys, who were constantly scratching themselves and unable to sit still, giving a comedic tone to several parts of the dance.
Bok M — Google review
One hour ten minutes....i must admit the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes most inspiring.....the middle is the essence of the story which was well performed but rather long after a long day of touring....the last female dance though is worth the price of admission and more
James D — Google review
We can totally recommend it. The music and the dance were both amazing. To make the story easier to follow there were information sheets in different languages at the entrance
Juan R — Google review
Fantastic show and cultural experience! The costumes, traditional dancing, music and storytelling were all beautifully done. We especially loved seeing the adorable child "giant" and the impressive slow-mo cartwheels!
Charlotte F — Google review
I am by no means an expert, but I enjoyed it. Loved the dancers so much expression. Stage and decor could be better but it didn't bother me. I would absolutely go again.
Rutger H — Google review
We paid 240 000 kip for 2 person, but this is really not worth it. It is really interesting for the first 15-30 mins, but then it all the same, but the music is good. It like you can listen to some good national motives, but not for this price, really

Visited them twice , they have great avocado toast as well and the chicken fried rice were good too. The downside they don’t have the green chillies and upon request added the ted chillies. Previous visit review: We had a great time here in outlook bar. Lao beer served only in glasses and towers not available. They have amazing fish burgers.
Singh G — Google review
I ate here 4 times. It’s covered but quite open air. No air conditioning. Lots of smokers. I mistakenly ordered a chicken club and fries the first time I ate here. It was fine and represented good value. Not much chicken. The second time I ordered fish and chips. The portion was fine, the fish and chips were a bit greasy. Not too expensive. The third time I ordered an egg and bacon burrito and fries. The portion was fine for brunch. The burrito was absolutely flavourless. At least add some black pepper! The fourth and last time I ordered the spaghetti with tomato & ground beef sauce. It tasted fine but was barely an appetizer in size. Maybe good enough for an 80 pound female, not for a 180 pound male. I didn’t even try the burgers and pizza because they were all too expensive. I think this place has potential, but they will have to do better. As an aside - there was a cat hanging around there during one of my visits. I like cats, but I will make an exception in this case because the back half of the cat looked like it had fallen into a poop filled toilet. Absolutely nasty!

Outback Laos in Luang Prabang is a great spot for a relaxed meal. We had the parm chicken burger and a Margherita pizza. The burger was absolutely amazing—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The pizza was decent, though not the highlight of the meal, because the burger stole the spotlight!! The atmosphere was chill, and the service was friendly. It’s a solid choice if you’re craving hearty, Western-style food in town. Would definitely come back for that burger!

Food here is excellent, proper burgers, chips and parmas. They play AFL on the TV, along with other sports and the spot really reminded me of home despite being in Laos. I'm thinking this bar is past its prime. Looks great here in the photos and reviews, but my visit was anything but. Of the several beer taps they have displayed, exactly none of them had any draft beer flowing through them. My original plan was to have dinner there as well, but I noticed that no one there was eating, and yeah, the place certainly didn't have a foodie vibe to it. Ended up just knocking down a couple quick bottles and walking up the road a bit to a place called Red Bull bar which ticked all the boxes.

The Elephant Village Sanctuary & Resort in Luang Prabang offers a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with rescued elephants. Visitors can witness the intimate bond between mahouts and elephants while participating in activities such as feeding, bathing, and walking with these majestic creatures. The sanctuary also serves as a way for mahouts to support their families while providing essential veterinary care for the elephants. This experience provides an educational insight into the lives of these magnificent animals while supporting their well-being.
We did the full day experience- it was great. Our guide (sorry! I dont remember the name) started just a few months ago and he was wonderful- super knowledgeable and friendly. The hike was great and lunch hit the spot. The falls were dry but it was still great to see. Pick up and drop off to hotel worked out well. The elephants were great to hang with - we are no elephant expert, but they seemed well cared for. They were super sassy and it was fun to see their personalities shine. They would play with each other and take their sweet time walking.

Was really wary of coming here after reading some reviews, but left feeling much better about our choice. Booked the half day tour when we were in town, arranged pickup for the next day. Collected from hotel, and headed to the village. The roads are pretty bumpy from rain damage so be aware of that if you get car sick at all. Arrived to tea and coffee, and information from the guide. He informed us the elephants onsite (there are 6) were previously captive elephants used for riding by the previous occupant of the sanctuary land. They no longer allow tourists to ride and have the prior harness seats on display to sit on and consider how they have previously been treated. To their point - any naturally wild animal who was kept in captivity for some time will not adapt to life outside of that if set fully free - so they ensure the elephants have access to all the food they need to remain healthy and happy. The mahouts tend so closely to the resident elephants and their commands are mostly heeded, but when the elephants are done with what they’re doing they just leave. We were also taken to a nearby waterfall. The boat is not covered and it was very hot on the water so a hat and covered clothing is a must ! But the waterfall was amazing. We opted for the washing experience which is amazing to be so up close with them. When the elephants had enough they began heading up the hill, so we went back to the village. We had lunch (a few curries and rice on offer, cold drinks can be purchased). We headed back to our hotel. There was no sign of distress, harm, chaining of any kind and the mahouts clearly love the animals and have a good bond with them.

I visited this so-called “Elephant Village” on September 20, 2025. The place advertises an ethical approach and “help for elephants” with feeding and bathing activities. At first glance it looks beautiful – but sadly, it’s not for the elephants, only for tourists. Absolutely none of the activities benefit the elephants. Everything is designed for tourists. It felt like a circus: shouting, poking, pulling their ears, young elephants chained with iron chains. My heart broke seeing this. The “humor” at lunch from the guide – joking that the meat was from an elephant – was the most shocking and disturbing part of the whole day. If you’re expecting a guide who cares about elephants, you won’t find it here. Instead, you’ll get someone practicing their English, taking pictures of the swimming pool, and driving you to waterfalls still under construction – while elephants are clearly the last priority. The only star I give is for the lunch. It was genuinely excellent. Everything else was heartbreaking and a huge disappointment. ⚠️ Please think twice before supporting this place. By visiting, you are not helping the elephants – you are supporting their suffering. Until this place truly changes its approach, I cannot recommend it to anyone who cares about animal welfare.
Irena F — Google review
We fully endorse and recommend the elephant village! All the elephants are rescues who are so well loved and taken care of. We did the full day tour and had an amazing guide named Joy who was so knowledgeable and so fun throughout the whole day. The novelty of meeting the elephants in the beginning of the day was heightened by trekking with a sweet lady rescue. Trekking is at the elephant pace, stopping when they want to uproot a tree, and walking only when they’re ready to go on. Delicious family lunch at the waterfall, then helping bathe the elephant at the end of the day was so rewarding, and of course a dip in their beautiful resort pool to finish off the tour. Everyone here was so kind! 10/10

This seemed to be more private zoo than an elephant sanctuary. Still a good day out but very poor explanation. The elephant hospital had no vet. No explanation as to why the elephants were there except for us to see.
Andrew G — Google review
Disappointing and Misleading Experience This was unfortunately the worst experience I’ve ever had on my travels. We booked “a half-day elephant care program,” expecting a meaningful and ethical interaction. Instead of that we spent about 10 minutes feeding 3 elephants behind a wood fence, another 10 minutes feeding 2 elephants that were chained, and the rest of the time we being shown a new pool with fountain and waterfalls under construction. This had nothing to do with real elephant care which you can see in Thailand for example. It felt more like a tourist trap and hotel than a sanctuary. The elephants are clearly not the priority here — the entire experience felt staged and disingenuous. What’s even more upsetting is that this facility was still offering elephant rides and using bullhooks as recently as 2019. Now, they present themselves as ethical and forward-thinking, but it comes across as pure hypocrisy. I urge others not to support this hotel with 5 sad elephants😢. There are truly ethical sanctuaries out there — sadly, this is NOT one of them. 🙏🏻

What a fantastic place. The camp is a 25 min drive, near the train station, about 5 mins boat ride downstream from the Tad Sae waterfalls, which we visited. We did the 2 day Mahout experience and it offered some really good 'up close' encounters with the elephants through hiking, feeding and bathing. All the elephants we met looked healthy and happy. The overnight stay was excellent and exceeded expectations. The 'tent' is actually a very spacious canvas sided bungalow with private bathroom with tub and fabulous views over the Nam Khan from its platform. Food was all high quality restaurant standard, very tasty and well prepared , and the pool was a beautiful place to relax during the stay. Our guide Lae looked after us very well and couldn't do too much to help. Money well spent.

Trip was July 2023 Visiting the "Elephant Village" was amazing. I did the 2 day experience and it was worth every penny. Firstly they really care for the rescued Elephants. They are not chained and sleep and feed in the jungle at night. Guests "do not ride the elephant's here anymore" You bath with them then walk them into the jungle with the Mahout and guide and then in the morning you go into the jungle to collect them again. Then another bath🐘💦. Just amazing. See my little movie @naybuskyphotography insta for the full experience. Only 1.5 mins The accomadation is beautiful on the river front and very comfortable beds. The food was excellent ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and all the staff were so kind. Mr Lay my guide really looked after me the whole time from start to finish. He was very friendly and kind. Over all one of my best experiences travelling in my life time 🐘 please trust the elephant's are loved here. They only use voice comands, no hooks and no aggressive actions at all, I saw this first hand. This is a must do in Luang Probang " Elephant Village" is amazing. They are not all equal here. Choose wisely Thank you Elephant Village and Mr Lay and also the lovely people in the office who were so patient while I made up my mind 😁

Bar
Aussie Bar - Sports Bar, formerly known as Outback Laos, is a popular spot located on Luang Prabang's main street. It offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy watching the world go by while sipping on wine or beer. The bar is frequented by expats and offers a free pool table and reasonable prices. While it may not fully embody the Aussie bar experience, it provides a taste of home for Australians visiting the area.
The best burger and pulled pork sandwich in all of Southeast Asia. Incredible all around.
Morgan M — Google review
**edit- they are now called outback loas** Came here on Australia day and not sure id call it an aussie bar to be honest. Still it is a nice bar, free pool table, reasonable prices but no music? But pictured is an o.b burger, taste good and the parmi, isnt a parmi (as you can see). It is advertised as a starter so not sure i could i can take points away for that, but there isnt ham on it. I was also abit disappointed that the cricket wasnt on, especially if Australia is playing on aussie day. Not sure id trust watching sport here as there is only 1 tv on and its just on sports replays of interviews with tennis players. Ive kept my star rating as a 4 as my burger tasted good, and i liked the tap beers. I guess im in a foreign country and Australia has alot of licenses for sports broadcasting so i cant expect too much that side

This is a great place to visit and a great place to stay while you're in Luang Prabang, especially if you're an Aussie. It's just like having a slice of home as your base camp for exploring the region. If you have a rest day, just sitting looking out on Aham Corner and people watching while sipping a cool drink is very relaxing 😊 There are very reasonably priced rooms to cater for all budgets and a great menu featuring Aussie tucker in the bar. You can't go wrong here 😊

Great Aussie Outback bar. Great comfort food and plenty of your favourite wine; beers and spirits. Service was ordinary but it was packed. Hoping to go back there soon. Highly recommended.

Mick runs a tight ship. It is a really great bar. Very friendly. It is definitely for Expats and tourists though and the prices reflect this. The food is good. But Mick I'd like to see some Thai beer in there as I get sick of the local brew lol. Especially the U or My Beer or Chiang Mai (after all this is made in Laos). But other than that I watch the AFL footy at Aussie Bar. The service is excellent. The atmosphere convivial. The ambience wonderful.

Nestled away near the Dream Boutique Resort, The Fat Cat is a delightful hidden treasure in Luang Prabang that offers an authentic taste of Mexican cuisine. With its cozy dive bar ambiance, dim lighting, and limited seating, it exudes a welcoming vibe for regulars and newcomers alike. The menu features mouthwatering options like ultra-spicy vegetarian burritos and beautifully crafted vegetable tacos topped with guacamole. Diners rave about the flavorful pulled pork soft tacos as well!
I love asian food, but once in a while it's nice to have something totally different. What can I say, pulled pork type soft tacos were just amazing. Big chunks of tender meat and great flavours all over. Strong recommendation for Fat Cat!
Simo K — Google review
The best tacos I've ever had! I've been coming back again and again. They also offer vegetarian options. Delicious cocktails, wine, beer you name it, they've got it. They're also locally known for their great coffee and tasty sandwiches at lunchtime.
Kaori Y — Google review
Superb food. First came to Fat Cat about a year ago, back when it was across the old bridge. It's an even better sign now that they've found a new home. The American owner is a passionate guy. He's made a life for himself here and his love for Laos is as palpable as the layers of fat on his homemade pastrami. It's a thing of beauty, a sandwich that can stand toe-to-toe with anything you'll find in New York. This is a place that understands the fundamentals. The burgers are simple, juicy, and delicious. The bloody Marys are a perfect 10, the kind of drink that could cure a hangover you didn't even know you had. And the breakfast hash? Also a 10. Crispy potatoes, tender pastrami, and a depth of flavor that can only come from a kitchen run by someone who cares. That someone, the real heart of the operation, is the lovely Lao chef, a woman who brings her soul to every dish. This isn't just a restaurant; it's a testament to what happens when two cultures collide over a shared love of good food.

Cool little place. Even had a DJ when we were there. Ordered the Parmesan chicken and eggplant Parmesan and both were yummy. Not Italian really, the sauce is a bit sweeter and very light on the cheese but it was still tasty. Would definitely go back.

Great food (burgers, tacos, pastrami, etc) that always surprises depending on the day. Wonderful communal vibes when the house is packed or even when its not. There's always someone to chat and share stories with. Music is the best and the owners are even better. An absolute staple of LP.

Neat bar in the near centre of town, good for people watching. Food is either a cheese platter or mixed cured meats platter, both excellent. Good choices for wine and spirits.

Just across the street from Icon Klub, Chez Matt, opened in early 2014, is the wine bar that Luang Prabang has long been waiting for with its relatively large selection of good wine by the glass and comfortable seating – a rarity in this town. As you can probably tell from the name, the bar oozes Frenchness. The menu of bistro-type food is tiny but excellent and they have an array of classy after dinner tipple, all at reasonable prices.

Nestled within the charming Le Sen Hotel, Brrr.cafe is a haven for coffee lovers who appreciate the finer details of their brew. With its trendy and minimalistic design, this café offers a serene courtyard-style seating area that invites you to unwind away from the hustle and bustle of town. The baristas here are true artisans, specializing in slow coffee techniques like pour-overs that highlight the rich flavors of each cup. Brrr.
Located inside Le Sen Hotel, Brrr café is similar to the upper end cafés you can find in South Korea, without the hefty price tag. There is only one magazine available, Kinfolk. You can read the magazine whilst looking outside. The café has a lot of natural light. The barista is very helpful and speaks perfect English. The orange cold brew was one of the best I ever had. There are cannelés available, but I did not try them. This is a big coup de coeur, I hope the café continues on the same path.
