Le Banneton Café & French Bakery in Luang Prabang is a popular spot with a strong French influence, evident in its delectable pastries and traditional breakfast offerings. The café attracts a significant number of French expats, creating an authentic Parisian ambiance. Known for its exceptional croissants and other pastries, it also serves up delicious Western meals and quality coffee.
One of my favourite cafes. Really nice atmosphere with a nice view on the street and the temple. Nice coffee and good matcha! A lot of choices for breakfast or lunch. Definitely the best croissants! You can also buy here some French products and some good cheese.

Every please read before making your reviews in LAOS!!! I saw many French people are giving bad reviews to this place, then came to see by myself. I have to say that please don't believe on these people's opinions. I have been many cities in France where nobody where able to speak any single word - even they weren't not able to say hello in English - and these people are coming here and complaining about why locals don't speak in English. Believe me Laos people speaks better in English then most of the French people in France. I saw many French youngsters who can't behave properly in Laos, when you are visiting new country try to learn their culture and respect, behave accordingly, if you don't respect ofcourse you will be kicked-out in every single place. Sorry but i must say these after reading all these reviews - which made me to think double before coming here. I'm happy that I came to see by myself. Laos people are learning, improving themselves all the times and it will get better and better. Try to respect for it, most of them are youngsters who wants to build their life. About the bakery - I loved a lot , they have many varieties, prices are very good that locals also can effort to eat. Coffee quality is amazing 😍 cakes are well done as in France. Thank you guys for this great place. Keep going.
Royal I — Google review
Excellent bakery, the pear tarts were fantastic!! Baguette was made with flour and chewy unlike the soft rice flour ones in other places. Indoor and outdoor seating in a quiet end of the heritage area. There’s an import shop inside as well.
Su S — Google review
An iconic cafe. Great atmosphere with a nice view of the street and the temple. Used my hotel bicycle to get there and parked it just outside the entrance so that I could keep a watch on it - the bicycle did not have a lock. Nice espresso coffee served using tiny and dainty cutlery. The French Toasts (thought the French would call them "English Toasts) tasted great with dollops of accompanying honey. Their baguettes and croissants looked tasty so I packed them up for lunch time eating on the China train I was to take later in the day. Definitely great croissants! The service too was cheery. Glad to have 'been there done that'!
Priyan N — Google review
Very dainty French bakery with expertly baked pastry and various meal options. Our matchas were very satisfying. Two humble wishes: Please introduce Lao coffee to the menu Please put crushed ice, not ice cubes, in your cold long drinks.
Floyd C — Google review
Visited this place twice during my stay. The goat cheese salad is great! Staffs are very attentive and friendly. It is a good spot to hide from the rain yet soaking in the old town vibe
Cherm N — Google review
This place was on our list after reading all the good reviews. When we walked in we were greeted by the polite staff and saw their amazing looking menu. Atmosphere: Good atmosphere. Nice decorations. Service: Generally good service. They were polite and sat us down and gave us complimentary water. There were a few things that they could improve but it's mostly just minor things. For example they could top up the water once it is finished. Also the cutlery they originally gave us was dirty, but they did reconcile it once we brought it up to be fair. Food: My oh my was the food terrible. And we were really hungry also 😫 I originally asked for a french pancake with goat cheese and the waitress informed me that they did not have it. So I asked for her recommendation and she pointed to the paninis. I ordered a Panini with smoked ham, and the waitress came a few moments later to inform me that they did not have smoked ham, only cooked ham and if that was ok, to which I declined. So I ordered a quiche with goat cheese and spinach, and when it arrived I was immediately disappointed with the portion, but then it didn't even matter because I didn't finish it as it was completely tasteless. The person with me ordered a chicken burger which was also pretty tasteless, although not as bad as mine. TL;DR Café looks amazing but the food they serve is terrible, but with good presentation.
Adíb M — Google review
This is a centrally located French inspired cafe that serves an assortment of beverages including coffees and teas (both hot and cold) and juices. In addition, it has a nice selection of salads, sandwiches, quiches, pizzas and French pancakes (crepes). The cafe also includes a small shop that sells various products imported from France such as hygienic items, canned goods, biscuits and wines. I had the tuna salad and club sandwich with ham and cheese. They were both fresh and tasty. I had a ginger tea and creamy hot chocolate and both were excellent. The service staff was friendly, efficient and English speaking. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. This is a perfect place to relax with a coffee, have a pastry and connect with a laptop.

Flea & Street Markets
Luang Prabang Night Market is a vibrant and bustling hub of local culture, offering an array of remarkable handicrafts and traditional Lao garments. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry as they browse through finely woven textiles, intricate wooden creations, authentic pottery, delicate silver jewellery, and vibrant silk scarves. The market also boasts a variety of delectable street foods and local specialties like the renowned Luang Prabang sausage.
Prices for the same items are nearly the exact same at all the shops. Items aren’t all that expensive so you could bargain if you are really short on cash, but otherwise it’s good to help the locals, it’s all relatively inexpensive anyways. It’s a good night market for souvenir hunting. Shirts, handmade goods, local food and whiskey. Many options to choose from
B — Google review
The market is nice and clean. Nobody was forcing me to buy stuff from them. So even if i am just looking they are ok with that. Which is the best thing trust me. Mostly there are crafts and local things you can buy from here. A good place to spend your evenings. Lots of cafes and bars to enjoy dinner
Deepti G — Google review
So much to look at. Many beautiful handmade items to buy. Or just for a walk and soak up the atmosphere. The food court had many options. Locd everything about Luang Prabang and the people
Saint — Google review
Certainly! The Luang Prabang Night Market is one of the highlights of any visit to this charming UNESCO town. Every evening, the main street transforms into a lively and colorful walking street filled with hundreds of stalls selling handcrafted goods, delicious local food, and unique souvenirs. What makes this market special is its laid-back atmosphere and strong focus on local culture. Many of the vendors are artisans from nearby villages, offering beautiful handwoven textiles, traditional wood carvings, and silver jewelry. It’s a great place to find authentic Lao crafts while supporting local communities. The food section is a real treat — tucked away in a side alley, you’ll find an array of affordable and tasty Lao dishes like grilled meats, noodle soups, fresh spring rolls, and tropical fruit smoothies. Everything is cooked fresh, and the variety is impressive. The market is well-organized, clean, and easy to walk through. It’s not overwhelming like some markets in Southeast Asia, which makes the experience more enjoyable. Prices are reasonable, and friendly bargaining is welcomed. Overall, the Luang Prabang Night Market is more than just a place to shop — it’s a vibrant cultural experience. Whether you’re looking for a unique gift, trying street food, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, this market captures the soul of Luang Prabang beautifully. Highly recommended for: ✔️ Cultural lovers ✔️ Foodies ✔️ Anyone who enjoys browsing local markets in a relaxed, friendly setting
Savon V — Google review
Plenty of food options and lots of cute stalls to explore. Some items in the crafts market may feel a bit overpriced, but considering the craftsmanship and effort from local artisans, it feels fair and well worth supporting.
Shri V — Google review
I liked the night market visually, nicely lit and quite long. I would have appreciated the food the most, because the products did not impress me much. T-shirts with elephant outfits and small wallets for documents. But overall a nice atmosphere. Anyone who visits this city should take a walk here
Filip R — Google review
Very lively and there are plenty of stuff to see, buy and eat. The beautiful lighting of a temple. Friendly vendors and they were not pushy!
Bar A — Google review
Great place to wander around. Lots of handicrafts, clothing, souvenirs made from bomb metal, and food options on side streets. Most sellers speak English and Chinese

Le Cafe/Bistro Ban Vat Sene is a colonial-style cafe located near the main Sisavangvong Road in Luang Prabang. It is associated with the upscale LElephant restaurant and offers a posh, European open-air dining room where guests can enjoy French, Western, and Lao dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
We loved this cafe. Great place for a late brunch/lunch. I had a set menu with coffee, salad and fish with rice. The food was delicious. We also ordered a croissant which was superb. A very cozy, clean cafe to sit and watch the streets. I highly recommend this chilled place with great food and kind waiters. It is also super clean, but most of all, the food was delicious
Karin F — Google review
Cafe Ban Vat Sene is a charming spot in the heart of Luang Prabang, offering a cozy, laid-back atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing or people-watching. The location is ideal, right on the main street, and the cafe itself has a nice mix of local charm with comfortable seating. The menu includes both Lao and Western dishes, so there’s something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for a local specialty or a Western comfort dish. While the food is a bit on the pricey side for Luang Prabang, the quality and ambiance make it worth a visit. A great spot to take a break, sip a coffee, and enjoy the surroundings!
The G — Google review
Nestled on the quieter end of the market, it has good ambience with decent food. Set menu was just rightly portioned, has a mix of Italian and local food.
Zheng T — Google review
Top brunch spot, the Feta and Bacon baguette was incredible. I didn’t realise I was craving it until I’d had it! The crunchy baguette and soft bread rolls were a real treat, as it can be difficult to find the style of bread we’re used to. Only problem is it’s our last day in Luang Prabang so we won’t get to return tomorrow:)
Conor L — Google review
Lovely restaurant with good service. Great for lunch or dinner. You can choose to sit outside, downstairs or in the lovely cool upstairs. Really enjoyed a relaxing lunch. Can recommend the Feta salad.
Sheila S — Google review
Laos has the unique taste of French culture infused within the city streets. It permeates in all of the architecture, a large number of tourist and of course all things culinary. We broke away from our routine search of Thai and Laotian this evening and opted to try one of the French bistros along the Sakarine road. We just so happened to stop at Ban Vat Sene and we’re very pleased with our choice. My girlfriend was craving a little something closer to home so she ordered the spaghetti bolognese and a small Neapolitan pizza, and I ordered pho with chicken as well as duck and yellow noodle. All the dishes were prepared and plated beautifully. Everything tasted amazing and felt fresh. We were fortunate enough to have a seat on the walkway itself, enabling us to soak up all the street action while enjoying every bite. The staff and service were top notch and for four dishes and waters, our total was less than 24 dollars Canadian, which I still can’t wrap my head around. It almost feels criminal to eat such high quality at such a low price. Please go support, you will not regret it! To Alex, thank you for seating us and tending to us so graciously. Wishing you all the success in your education and your future. Much love!
Yannick C — Google review
We came here a second time after lunch just to try their desserts and baguette. The food is really good but can be pricey for South east Asia. I thought it was worth it just for the food alone. The baguette are freshly baked and insanely delicious, the baguette alone gets 5 stars. Desserts and the garlic baguette were pretty good as well.
P — Google review
Le Cafe Ban Vat Sene is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Laos (very close to Wat Sensoukharam (Ban Vat Sene temple)), offering a unique twist on Italian cuisine that pleasantly surprises the taste buds. After a long morning exploring the city, we stepped into the cozy ambiance of Le Cafe Ban Vat Sene where we were greeted warmly by the staff and comfortably seated at a table close to the bar/kitchen. Our party of 8, opted for the set menu consisting of our choice of: Salada Oceane: Tuna, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Onion and Black Olives followed by a choice between Spaghetti a la Carbonara or Lasagne de Boeuf (Beef Lasagna) followed by a choice between Slade de Fruits Frais (fresh fruit salad) or Sorbet au citron vert (lime sorbet). The carbonara dish combined the creamy richness of traditional carbonara with the aromatic flavors of Laotian spices and herbs. The pasta was cooked al dente, and the sauce was velvety smooth, with pieces of crispy pork belly adding a delightful crunch. Overall, dining at Le Cafe Ban Vat Sene was a delightful surprise from the attentive and efficient service to the inviting ambiance and delicious cuisine make it a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the culinary diversity of Laos.

Saffron Coffee, now known as Saffron Espresso, Brew Bar, and Roastery, has relocated to a new spot on riverfront Khem Kong Road in Luang Prabang. The revamped location features a casually cool atmosphere with terra-cotta floor tiles and an impressive roasting machine. The cafe offers exceptional coffee made from organic, shade-grown arabica beans cultivated by hill-tribe families in northern Laos.
Food is great. Coffee is great. The people are great! The pancakes were nice and fluffy with an excellent chocolate sauce. Normally my sons would struggle to finish but they devoured them The bagel was delicious with kind of a tomato garnish. Delicious.

A very relaxing cafe with 2 floors. There's air conditioning at the 2nd floor. The desserts on display all looks so good. We ordered an Iced Latte, Cascara Granola Bar & Carrot Cake. The food & coffee were delicious. Would have loved to try more of their dessert menu. A great cafe to try when in Luang Prabang.
Aibi Y — Google review
Great coffee in the town! I had ice Americano and it was very refreshing and nice. I bought a bag of coffee beans which was roasted just a week before the purchase and tried on my own espresso machine once I returned to my home. It was so good, I wish I bought more. Highly recommended!
Rihyang K — Google review
Way too expensive for the quality of the food, We've heard a lot of good things about this restaurant on social media. We were very surprised to see that the prices online and in the restaurant have gone up. I ordered a ceaser salad, which came very small, with bacon, not chicken. My partner also ordered a very small sandwich, and you have to add a supplement for 4 fries. I do not recommend this cafe at all; you can find much better options for less.
Morgane V — Google review
Such a lovely place to enjoy a lazy day. Great cider & tea. Carrot cake a bit dry to my taste. Beautiful view watch the boats float by. Highly recommended for the view!
Julianne T — Google review
Excellent falafel wrap, pretty cheap for the quality (60 000kip, really generous portion). They have an upstairs room with windows on the Mekong River, nice too study or work or just have a great time. They have a nice terrace on the river as well.
Sana D — Google review
We came here after arriving in Luang by sleeper bus from Hanoi. After a total of 36 hours travel this place was exactly what we needed. We had scrambled eggs on toast which sounds simple but was honestly so delicious. Their homemade sourdough is amazing and the egg was perfectly cooked. We also tried some of their cakes, the carrot cake and banana bread were both lovely. It is also situated by the river and is a lovely place to enjoy a meal.
Hamish G — Google review
I might have expected too much because of the good reviews about the carrot cake, but it was just okay. The one with cream was sold out, but they gave me some on the side. The cake itself was a bit dry, and the cream was a firm, barely sweetened whipped cream with almost no flavor. They accept credit cards, which is convenient. Staff were polite, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the cappuccino was good.

Joma Bakery Café in Luang Prabang is a popular spot offering vegetarian dining options and end-of-the-day discounts on baked goods. With two locations on the main street, one near the post office and the other near Wat Sene, it's convenient for visitors to find. The café provides outdoor seating with fans for a comfortable experience in the heat or indoor seating with air-conditioning and charging sockets.
Standardised Western Establishment with standardised prices Lasagne was 98000kip. Pretty pricey in local context but considering the establishment, well worth the price. Lasagne was nice, I really enjoyed their garlic bread which was well toasted and mightily flavourful. Serving time was decent, nice ambience with an air-con room on the second level.

We'd previously been to a Joma coffee shop so didn't hesitate to try again. Very consistent standards. I really enjoyed my coffee and lemon meringue pie and a very comfortable environment. Highly recommended.
Geordie A — Google review
One of the town's most well-liked cafés. It has a Latin feel about it, both inside and out. A a more cozy second story is available. The pastries are excellent. Both the avocado shake and the brownie I had were delicious. You may use your Thai bank application for payment using QR code scan.
Jimgal ( — Google review
The atmosphere outside looks inviting as well how the pastries look like when you get in. They have wide space on the 2nd floor to dine in but the smell isn’t that good. The price coffee and food are pretty much pricey. I even ordered a large size of hot macchiato but I got a small one or I don’t know if they have a smaller size than that.
Jeryl G — Google review
Just ordered a Thai tea for take out. Was pretty decent not as the ones you get in Thailand but was good. The staff was pretty fast in making the tea with many people standing in queue.
Nathan M — Google review
We only had two bakery items - orange cake and mulberry pie. They were ok not that great. Ambience is nice and so is the service.
Sreelakshmi — Google review
Prices here significantly higher, but found the quality disappointing. We had a chicken breast/pesto sandwich. Sandwich was soft, with like the ones you can buy on the street for a quarter of the price. Menu rather Western-oriented. Staff uninterested. You have to queue to order. Good air conditioning, nice decor and relaxed atmosphere. There are better things out there.

Tangor Restaurant Bar & Lounge is a popular spot in town, known for its delicious tilapia ceviche and a full cocktail repertoire. The owners have extensive experience and offer great customer service in a relaxed atmosphere. Guests can enjoy the ambiance with 60s and 70s music while savoring the delectable dishes.
Excellent restaurant for western/fusion food. Chicken satay, grilled fish, suckling pig (tastes like Chinese braised pork) and the sharing platter (had vegan foiegras which exceeded my carnivorous expectations). We had to catch the hotel shuttle bus and asked them to expedite the dinner which they very helpfully did. Kudos to Thibault and team for the excellent dinner which we all enjoyed

This is a pretty chill bar in Luang Prabang. The decorations are nicely done and give the place a cozy, laid-back vibe. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. Prices are affordable, and the location is perfect—right on the same street as the night market, so it’s easy to find and convenient to stop by after exploring.

We are visiting Luang Prabang from Mexico, and I must say that the Ceviche is exactly what the other reviews describe: amazing, great, delicious, etc etc. Totally recommended. The rest of food in the menu is also delicious, prices very reasonable and the restaurant and location in one of the areas main streets. Last but not least, staff and owners provided a great service.

Perfect for people watching from the terrace. Full bar, friendly servers, and everything our group tried on the menu was enjoyed. The house specialty of ceviche was my favorite. Also the fish in the parchment paper. Very tasty.

I suffered from mild food poisoning here after eating a raw burger that I ordered to be cooked medium. This probably would have been fine if they used good quality beef but given my vomiting the morning after they used cheap beef mince for their burgers and also don’t cook it for long enough.

Good food, cold beer, friendly people, excellent staff, go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy yourself. Highly recommend !!!!!!!

We stopped for a snack and had the red lentil dip which is actually a hummus and it was amazing. We also had the fried chicken appetizer that was so awesome. I figured it would just be regular batter fried chicken and it was except the flavor and texture of the batter was different than anything I’ve had. I can’t wait to go back and try some of the main dishes.

This is a chill place to hang out and watch people go about their business on the main drag. We came here often during our visit to Luang Prabang when we wanted a coke and / or a cool beer. The staff are nice, the decor has a nice vibe, the prices are very reasonable and importantly (as a tourist) we were able to pay with relatively large notes!

Coffee is great as it suits my inquiry, the Arabica beans with oat milk and many more from signature menu I had with oat milk. Moreover every staff super friendly Just one thing makes cafe weir is many local people come sit with play YouTube or TikTok quite loud like they own this world so I have my earphone to avoid this.

Very very nice place ! I took a Matcha Latte, one of the best I tasted, same authentic taste as in Japan, high quality, I took it with oat milk and unsweetened, delicious ! Excellent cakes, great variety of coffee combinations with matcha or coconut. Ambiance is cozy and welcoming. Perfect spot to enjoy a little treat in the city.

I love an atmosphere of this cafe that has decorated mixed between a slate board cafe style and an industrial style interior design! So this place is suitable for who likes to take a picture because there has many zones and to be unique each corner, I really enjoyed every moment here so much. Then, the beverage is so good especially the strawberry milk! Strong recommendation.

L’Elephant is a charming restaurant located in the heart of historic Luang Prabang, Laos. Housed in a colonial residence from the 1960s, it offers an elegant ambiance with high-ceilings and stucco pillars. The restaurant specializes in French-Lao fusion cuisine, serving dishes like steak tartare, banana leaf-grilled tilapia, and lemongrass chicken. The ingredients are sourced from their own vegetable garden.
Restaurant with good atmosphere Employees take great care in providing excellent service. The taste of the food focuses on the original taste of the ingredients Cooked. The recommended menu is buffalo steak, which is delicious and not greasy.

We had our NYE dinner here and were absolutely delighted. Exactly the French cuisine you’re looking for. Food and wine were tasteful and the staff was clearly experienced and very friendly.

This is my second time here after 10 year time. I think last time was a bit better. This time, main dishes were average, less sauce than normal French cuisine. But all are good for changing from local laotian food
Namfon K — Google review
Very nice restaurant. Specializing in French cuisine. A little expensive compared to other local restaurants, but not when compared to Europe or the US. Food was most excellent! Good selection of items and presentation always perfect. Don't miss the creme brule! Interestingly, the restaurant was very busy at 19:30 on a Friday, but the crowd had disappeared by 20:30.....so if planning an early dinner it might pay to call ahead.

Without exaggeration, the best food and service here. Quick preparation of dishes, despite the fact that the restaurant was almost full. Good wine. Portions are average and less than average. But the taste is excellent. They charge 10% extra for service.

During my first day in Luang Prabang, I heard that one could get good French food in the ancient capital of Laos. And this restaurant was recommended by the residence reception. Quite easy to find in a 1960s colonial building. The architecture and setting was quaint and relaxing. The menu was in English, French and Laotian. We ordered Braised Duck and Mustard Rabbit. Each dish had its delightful points. Overall, it was good, and agreeable with me. The portions were generous. The staff were attentive, sometimes a little over attentive. Overall very positive experience!

Vegetarian restaurant
Two Little Birds Cafe is a charming vegan eatery in Luang Prabang, run by a local family and surviving the pandemic. The menu features fresh, vegan-friendly dishes like smoothie bowls, vegetable curries, and traditional Lao coffee. Located behind Dao Coffee near Amantaka Hotel, this family-owned establishment offers friendly service and fair prices. Visitors can enjoy delicious food that can be made vegan or vegetarian by default.
Visited this cafe twice and had a great experience both times. The smoothie bowls are the best I've had and I love that the full menu is vegetarian. I'm not veggie, but used this cafe as an opportunity to get more nutrients in while travelling. Highly recommend - quality food and service! ♥️
Robyn — Google review
This place is okay, we just wanted a couple of smoothie bowls and had been recommended to come here. The service wasn’t great for us, felt like we’d been forgotten about - the owner apologised as he thought we’d already ordered. Then I had to ask again for the water we ordered (not the end of the world!) The smoothie bowls were very nice and pretty filling which is what we needed, also presented nicely.
Leo G — Google review
So tasty and so fresh. I came here three days in a row! The summer rolls and smoothie bowls are heavenly. Definitely worth having a meal or two here!!
Melissa D — Google review
Pretty good experience here, the fruit bowl is very refreshing. However, I would say a little more fruit and less yogurt is better. Service is friendly and the staff speak good English. Understandable because this place is crowded with tourist, especially those from the West.
Thien D — Google review
The vegan food was delicious, the staff was friendly and spoke a little bit of English. The prices were very reasonable! Really recommend it!

The berry smoothie bowl never disappoints. Fresh fruit, yogurt, and berries, sweet, refreshing, and fresh in every bite. So good. Highly recommended.
B.S. K — Google review
Two Little Birds Caffe felt like it was run by a mad scientist who hates fruit. The drinks? Imagine if someone poured you a thimble of juice, buried it in an iceberg, and then drowned it with fizzy water. Voilà, disappointment in a glass. Calling it “refreshing” would be like calling a hangover “a spiritual awakening.” I just wanted actual juice, not a chemistry experiment. The bowls at least tried to save the day. They looked decent and tasted okay, but some of the promised ingredients clearly got lost on their way from the kitchen to the table. Menu says one thing, bowl says “nah.” It wasn’t bad, but it felt like someone photocopied a salad and gave me the grayscale version. Verdict: you won’t leave angry, but you also won’t leave inspired. 3/5.

Indigo Cafe is a popular spot in Luang Prabang, situated near the Royal Palace. It's renowned for its diverse menu and delectable bakery items, particularly its fresh bread and pastries. The cafe is always bustling with travelers seeking tasty meals throughout the day, including vegan and vegetarian options. Visitors rave about their hot Lao coffee served with optional condensed milk and mouthwatering buttery croissants. Overall, it's highly recommended for a delightful dining experience.
The place is very nice. Prices are quite high. Food is tasty. We had just few juices and pizza. And pizza is big which is good. Because I was afraid of a tiny overpriced one. But luckily this place is pretty good.

We came here as we wanted a nice rooftop/terrace to watch the sunset with a drink. It was perfect - big beerlao for 50k lak, was pretty quiet when we went so got a nice seat with a great view of the sunset, service was good in there, overall had a really nice evening here.

A treasure in the Old Quarter. Dropped in after seeing the beautiful French pastries (including gluten friendly!) on display while walking by. Initially wanted to stop for coffee and a snack, but we ended up ordering some traditional Lao dishes. Menu has a mix of both local and Western cuisine and everything looked tasty. We had the Lao chicken noodle soup and it was amazing. Thai milk tea and seasonal special lychee longan drink were refreshing and not too sweet. Everything was fresh, fragrant, and beautifully presented. Our server Namfon was super lovely. We'll definitely be coming back later for dinner!

Have been here several times. The food, drinks, coffee, cakes, everything is very fresh and delicate. The stuff is friendly, helpfull and offer a fast service. Not to mention it is very clean everywhere. A big recommendation.

October 2025 Only had a blueberry shake and a croissant, and sampled a caramel croissant. Blueberry shake is sensational - prob best from 3 months in LP. Worth the price. Butter croissant is tasty for 45k. Caramel 🥐 comes with thick caramel and Macadamia nuts for 50k. It's superb. Although a lot of the menu is priced higher than other places in LP, that caramel croissant is a bargain.
B W — Google review
We dined twice at Indigo Cafe during our stay at Luang Prabang. The location is extremely prime near the Night market and opposite the evening street food market stalls. Indigo cafe gave us a much needed change of taste apart from local food options serving us extremely well made pasta and sandwiches. The croissant at Indigo cafe was amazing and worth a try when you pass by and it's difficult to miss this restaurant in the first place. It's almost like a landmark. Evenings they have a stall outside with baked products some of them at discounted rates which were probably made the previous day and needed to be consumed soon enough. Prices are higher as compared to other restaurants but the service and atmosphere at the restaurant live up to it.
Raunak B — Google review
Whilst we were visiting Luang Prabang we came here on a couple of occasions and we had great food and desserts each time. The white chocolate blondie and the dark mint brownies are the best. The only ‘downside’ if you want to call it that is that it is a bit on the expensive side for the area or Laos you are in however you do get what you pay for.

Big Tree Cafe is a popular spot known for serving the best Korean food in the city, attracting both locals and tourists. The cafe offers a vibrant atmosphere and is often crowded with Korean patrons and art enthusiasts. Peaceful view on the Mekong from the terrace across the road. The cafe has also a nice terrace in their garden. The place is very clean and the staff were kind and helpful. The cafe has also a photo gallery upstairs and if it is in your budget you can purchase some of them. Haven’t tried the food because kitchen is closed in the morning but great place for good coffee

We discovered this café-restaurant with a great Google rating not far from our hotel, and our spontaneous decision to give it a try turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The highlight was definitely their vegetable noodle soup – a must-try. It’s made with all-natural, unprocessed ingredients, and the broth is rich and savoury without being overly salty or loaded with MSG. Their chicken burger was another winner – tasty, generously portioned with a good amount of chicken, and served with fries that weren’t greasy at all. KH Guide & Rating Accessibility: 4/5 – Easily noticeable from the roadside, but parking is limited due to the narrow road. Cleanliness: 3.5/5 Ambience: 4/5 – Cozy setting with Laos charming nature-inspired theme. Despite the lack of air conditioning, you can tell the owner put a lot of effort into the decor. 5 star is possible if AC is available. Food Quality: 4.5/5 Pricing: Reasonable for the area. Attentiveness: 4.5/5 – Staff were responsive and friendly. Would we visit again? Definitely, yes. Strongly recommended.

OMG the most delicious lunch just occurred at the Big Tree Cafe & Gallery in Luang Prabang, Laos! Was on my way to another AI suggests cafe and mooched by here and my jaw fell open at its wonderfulness! (And if that isn’t a word then is should be or it is now anyway 🤣) The most beautiful arty cafe with schtunning food - I just had the Korean set menu - Bu Dea Kim chi soup set! Mind blowingly good (and I don’t normally like tofu either 🤣) So very beautiful here! Even got a screening room for short films, chess set, gallery, library! Basically I’m in Joshie heaven of and an amazing view over the swollen Mekong too! Perfect spot any day but especially on the edge of a typhoon with lots of rain and flooding! *This review is only for the 2nd floor art gallery! It’s awesome. Just tell someone you want to have a look and they will turn the lights on. Head upstairs and you’ll find a huge collection of photos. The exhibition that I saw was color and black and white and it was fantastic. Gaspard is a charming restaurant located in a UNESCO-listed wooden house with an outdoor garden. The menu at Gaspard offers classic traditional French cuisine, prepared by talented chefs using fresh seasonal ingredients sourced from the local market. The restaurant has been recently renovated and pays attention to detail both inside and outside, creating a mesmerizing ambiance. The interior features hand-made hemp and applique cushions, adding to the overall beauty of the place.
The best dining experience my wife and I had in Luang Prabang, and it was no competition. Granted, I can't eat local foods easily due to allergies, but as far as Western or in this case French cuisine goes, Gaspard is a gem. The setting, the friendly unassuming service, the soft jazz standards, the warm and tasty bread, the well-designed five-course menu and as a special highlight one of the best filet steaks I've ever had. A few things didn't work, such as the underwhelming morel sauce that came with the filet, but overall everything was top notch and well worth the price tag.

Charming restaurant in a gorgeous space. The service was friendly, albeit a touch overbearing. The food really impressed me, I did the pre fixe menu- portions were appropriate so I was satisfied but not at all stuffed. Great cocktails and wine selection. A must visit in LP!

Nice French restaurant near the centre of Luang Prabang town. Service is really nice and friendly. Nice menu, there’s also a separate menu with some specials. Salade Nicoiçe (starter) is really good. We had the Salmon Wellington as a main. Salmon was great, but puff pastry undercooked. Made a remark about it, but adequate response from the staff.

Great Atmosphere and Service – Perfect for Date Night Amazing service and a lovely environment, highly recommended for a date night. This was my first time trying buffalo meat, which made the experience even more special. The menu was interesting, and the food presentation was beautifully done. However, the taste was just okay, not particularly surprising or memorable. Recommended dish: Buffalo Steak
T. B — Google review
Visited in May 2025. Laos. Luang Prabang. Drawn in by glowing reviews and a craving for refined European cuisine, we selected this French restaurant in Luang Prabang with high expectations. The establishment boasts a handful of tables on a charming veranda, with indoor seating also available. The décor is described as French-inspired with a touch of Lao chic. FOOD: The menu largely comprises French and European classics, albeit with some dishes seemingly infused with a contemporary Lao twist. The offerings are divided into several sections, encompassing appetizers, salads, main courses, and desserts. We opted for a selection of appetizers and main courses. The vegetable "pie" proved to be a misnomer, consisting simply of boiled vegetables served atop a cheesy cracker. The dish lacked conceptual cohesion and overall integrity. The vegetables themselves were rather bland, and the presentation felt somewhat haphazard. Only the cheesy cracker was deserving of praise. The beetroot salad also presented a perplexing flavor profile. The pickled beetroot and other vegetables lacked any unifying concept, resulting in disparate flavors that failed to coalesce. The beetroot, disappointingly, receded into the background. The appetizer featuring fried potatoes and mushrooms was more successful. The well-browned potatoes with onions formed a classic and satisfying combination. The breaded soft-boiled eggs were also decent, although we would have preferred a runnier yolk to serve as a sauce. The Australian Wagyu ribeye steak, cooked to a commendable medium-rare, was nevertheless lacking in the expected marbling and succulence. While tender, the meat possessed a somewhat bland flavor. (Perhaps this was due to improper defrosting?) The truffle pasta was flavorful, but the truffle aroma was barely perceptible, and the sauce was slightly thicker than ideal, resulting in a somewhat dry pasta dish. SERVICE: The service was adequate, but we anticipated a higher level of attentiveness given the restaurant's purported sophistication. Ultimately, the service was limited to delivering the food and clearing the dirty dishes – upon request. VERDICT: It seemed to us that this restaurant, in its aspirations towards haute cuisine, falls short in consistently delivering high-quality food. Virtually every dish we sampled suffered from notable shortcomings. Considering our extensive experience in dining establishments, we can confidently say that the above-average prices charged here are not justified by the overall culinary experience, and this restaurant is, in our opinion, not worthy of your attention.
Olga M — Google review

Market
The Luang Prabang morning market is a vibrant and bustling place where local vendors sell an array of goods, including fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and handmade textiles. Visitors can immerse themselves in the cultural richness by exploring traditional Lao garments, marveling at intricate Hmong embroidery, and admiring crafts from hill tribes.
Very local and touristy market at the same time. We liked to pickup some sticky rice with some barbecue grilled meat, sausages and eat at a coffee stall right in the middle of the market. If we ever come back to Luang Prabang and stay at an Airbnb with kitchen, I’d not miss the chance to go to this fresh market and cook Lao dishes, the herbs and veggies here were just mind blowing. Things we tried and liked: mungbean cake, coconut crepe, seaweed floss with sticky rice, Lao sausage, fermented pork, some sweet dessert dipped in coconut flakes, coconut milk dessert Things we tried and didn’t like: grilled banana (too dry), bee wax (might be good as ingredient to cook but eaten just bee wax like this was…meh), croissant (curious to try but it was a no go 😂)

If you want a real taste of local life in Luang Prabang, you’ve got to check out the Morning Market. We went super early—around 7am—and it was the perfect way to jump-start the day. You’ll see everything from fresh produce to surprises you definitely don’t see back home (we spotted some Sapa fish split wide open and even a skinned weasel…wild stuff!).It’s mostly for locals, so you get that authentic vibe—lots of sights, smells, and a few things that will totally throw you off in a good way. We picked up some coffee and wandered the stalls for a while, and honestly, it’s a must if you want to see the real rhythm of Luang Prabang. Just bring your curiosity (and maybe skip breakfast until you get here)!

Must see if you’ve never been to a wet market without the odors of a standard wet market. With cooked food, vegetables, fruit, to freshly caught fish/birds and larvae, this is a great way to see how the locals do their shopping. Oct 2024

An interesting local Lao Disco hangout to check out, but not much dancing (people kind of wiggle near their tables where they are clustered, drinking) ExtrEMELY loud music (expect full body vibrations - and bring earplugs). Beer Lao is 25 000kip. Be sure to keep your parking chit as they check it when you exit.

Truly local, truly authentic Thanks for my new friend from Luang Prabang bringing me here for a night out. It was a bit too much hanging out in the tourist section of the city. I felt fortunate that a local friend offered to bring to the club that only local people go, far away from the guest houses and villas catered to the vacationers. More people started to show up after 10 p.m. and it became crowded after the singers performed warm-up songs. I never saw so many young people all gathered together in one place in their modern outfits and enjoyed either Laos or western songs. Great lighting, too. Must go if you want to step out of your tourist's conformer zone.

Afternoon tea at Novelty Cafe is a good spot to waste the hot afternoon and enjoy the day wind away. Coffee is good and when you order the iced versions it comes with their titular Cafe art. We ordered the interestingly looking Swiss baguette which comes with a fresh side salad.

Came here for breakfast. Decided to mix my own menu because I didn't feel like the brunch choices. The almond croissant was the best I probably ever had and the honey yogurth was also delicious. I wouldn't recommend the hot chocolate though even if it looked amazing. Total price around 60.000 Kip, which is really expensive for local standards. Staff was friendly and I totally liked the style, it's a bit of a hipster place to be honest. I came there a second time, craving for that almond croissant again and I tried the most delicious hazelnut latte!

Great cafe on the main strip. You can hang here for a while, browse large the extension of books on the shelves, and they play great deep house in the background. They have WiFi and outlets at every seat. I had the espresso and it was crafted well using locally sourced beans from the mountains outside of LP.

I love that they reuse their bamboo straws. The open kitchen, the bookstand full of books, the imitated wooden floor, and the chill electronic music makes the place feel like in somebodys living room. We started with a pineapple-apple-carrot-ginger juice which tasted great. We tried the vegan baguette with grilled eggplant, bell pepper, zucchini and hummus. We also had the couscous salad with olive oil. I really loved that I could taste the mint in it. And we shared the creamy pumpkin and carrot soup with homemade coconut milk. My favourite :)

Nestled within the charming Le Sen Hotel, Brrr.cafe is a haven for coffee lovers who appreciate the finer details of their brew. With its trendy and minimalistic design, this café offers a serene courtyard-style seating area that invites you to unwind away from the hustle and bustle of town. Located inside Le Sen Hotel, Brrr café is similar to the upper end cafés you can find in South Korea, without the hefty price tag. There is only one magazine available, Kinfolk. You can read the magazine whilst looking outside. The café has a lot of natural light. The barista is very helpful and speaks perfect English. The orange cold brew was one of the best I ever had.
