Outdoor Activities
Mindil Beach is a popular sandy shoreline in Darwin, known for its vibrant sunset markets that operate from April to October. The beach offers a picturesque setting for the iconic Mindil Beach Sunset Market, featuring over 200 stalls selling local cuisine, handicrafts, and souvenirs. Additionally, visitors can enjoy various entertainment options such as circus workshops, face painting, and a jumping castle. During the day, the beach provides an ideal spot for relaxation and leisure activities.
Mindil Beach, located in the Northern Territory’s Darwin, is much more than just a beach. Swimming is not recommended, but the beach festivities more than make up for it. There’s always something going on – whether it’s fun runs, festivals or the beloved Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, where you’ll find dozens of sizzling food stalls.
M/s H — Google review
Loved this beach, although it is currently being tended to by the local municipality. It is a very lively spot for watching the sunset, and it can get especially busy on nights that the night market is open (Mindil Beach Night Market). It is well worth spending a few hours there at sunset taking it all in. Lovely views, and it is a place that seems to draw the crowds and bring people together. Bring a towel, blanket, or chairs to rest and enjoy the sunset. There are also some seashells around, and the sand is soft. The area is well kept and clean.
Jacqueline S — Google review
Mindil beach market is a must see when visiting Darwin. Culturally diverse with everything from croc & buffalo pies to stuffed chicken wings, fresh calamari, crepes, terrific Indian at Dr Yummy & much more! Settle with your food & watch the sunset to the cool tunes from 1 of our first nation's buskers playing acoustic guitar as you dreamily watch yachts sail off into the sunset. Catch a camel ride along the beach if that's your thing. Later view some whip cracking courtesy of Mick's whips & browse the many market stalls with a plethora of things on offer. Family friendly & one of the best nights you'll have in Darwin. Guaranteed 🐊🤠🌴
Paula H — Google review
Beautiful beach with great markets. Fantastic sunsets
Rosfryfry F — Google review
Fine red brown established sand dunes. Sunsets framed by tree trunks as the sun sinks into the vast ocean. Vibrant market with many flavours, clothing stalls with fantastic printed designs & a natural mosquito repellent cream on offer.
Angela R — Google review
Great place to watch the sunset over the ocean and to walk your dogs 🐕 off leash. If you don't like crowds, don't go on the nights the markets are on. You also can not take your dogs to the markets, and they must be on leash on market nights.
Marion S — Google review
The best place to go on a Thursday (or Sunday) night. The number of stalls were down, assumedly due to the Darwin festival, but still worth the experience. If in Darwin you just have to go to these markets...
Geoff W — Google review
Recommend going there at sunset for some of the most beautiful sunset views you will see. Also go there when the markets are on, there's heaps of great stalls and tasty food available.

East Point Reserve, located just a short drive from Darwin's city center, is a picturesque waterfront park offering a variety of attractions. Visitors can enjoy play equipment, picnic areas, and wildlife viewing amidst the natural beauty of coastal trails and lush picnic spots. The area also holds historical significance as it features the East Point Military Museum showcasing WWII relics and footage of the Darwin bombing.
One of the cleanest place i'd been in. This is a place where you can really enjoy running, cycling, picnic or just relax and experience the beauty of mother nature. Just a little walk here you'll surely feel the breeze of the sea. So much to do here. But unfortunately for me, we only have limited time to spare to fully experience the vast beauty of this reserve. Wish to go back here someday. Anyway, there are lots of dedicated parking slots for those with their vehicles. And also there are some public toilets. If you love birds, there are plenty here, and if you're patient enough you'll also see some Wallaby here. So much good things about this place. Just go there and experience it.😊
Harold T — Google review
Great place to relax, do some sport, and enjoy the nature around Darwin. Between the salt lake, the sea, and the colorful horizon at sunset, it’s always a pleasure to get lost at East Point Reserve. You can see beautiful colorful birds, wallabies, even snakes… Be careful with sand flies if you come at dawn or for the sunset (they are very present). We loved spending 1 month chilling around East Point Reserve. Water point available for people doing sport. Free toilets and showers, not always clean.
Marion — Google review
The perfect getaway place to have a picnic, BBQ or play with friends and family members. They have a big playground for kids and plenty of tables around if you want to sit down and eat. Lots of people were swimming in the lake, we just sat down on the lawn and enjoyed the sunset. Easy to access with plenty of parking available. There are lots of shaded areas so it won't get too hot as there seems to always be a little breeze everytime we have been there. Good place to practice stand up paddle boarding, swimming in the lake (after checking and confirming its safe on the government website considering potential crocodiles and bacteria levels).
Robin E — Google review
Definitely check out the tide for this walk. I went twice but missed the high tide. A beautiful spot even with the tide out. It can be a hot walk so I would suggest at hat and some water.

Such a nice place for a walk or a picnic!! Stunning views of the ocean too

Quiet uncrowded mangrove area with pathways and bbq and picnic areas, water fountains and toilet facilities. Beautiful views round the bays and plenty of parking. Memorial for the first flight London to Australia nearby too.

The reserve is lovely with plenty of walking trails. There are BBQ areas, toilets and lots of wallabies! There are also old bunkers from the bombing of darwin era, this place has a lot of history to it, definitely worth a look.

Always a great place, especially in the evenings. Great selection of food plus alchol shop. Pricing is acceptable & once the lights come 9n below wharf you can catch a great show when Dolphins come in to catch the giant squid. I'm am in wheelchair and caught public bus from city centre.

One of the best spots in darwin! So many good and beverage choices! Ice cream! Tacos! Seafood! Its got it all. There is a dedicated fishing area also. Carpark can get full quickly, i recommended walking there if possible, taxis do frequent the car park also
Sim W — Google review
The Wharf is 3 star but the Flying Doctor museum is 5 stars. Harbour cruises leave from the Wharf or just sit and eat from the food stores and watch the sea. The Flying Doctor museum was the best with their interactive displays
Ronda W — Google review
We spent a few hours here doing the RFDS museum, its Hologram shows, aircraft, and VR experience of the bombing of Darwin. We then took a harbour cruise re the bombing which was fabulous and finished with lunch. We really enjoyed our time here with great staff across all businesses.
Jodie B — Google review
We had a gaze and graze cruise that left from Stokes Hill Wharf. It was amazing but we should have also visited one of the many eateries on the wharf. Just not enough time.
Harry D — Google review
This is a lovely walk coming from the convention center or waterfront precinct. Once you get there (hop on and off bus takes you there too) there are several eateries, locals fishing, Royal Flying Doctor service and more. Overlooking the water is a beautiful sight to see! Cruise ships come in and out of here as well.

It's a nice place to visit with friends or family in the afternoon. You can see sunset. You can fishing too. There are some food stalls. They sell Asian food, Mexican food, seafood and west food. You can learn about the bombing of Darwin in here.

Nightcliff Foreshore Park, just a short drive from Darwin, is a beloved spot offering stunning coastal views and a vibrant community atmosphere. The area features a picturesque walking and cycling path along the coast, providing breathtaking vistas and a refreshing sea breeze. While swimming may not always be suitable due to strong currents, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy such as fishing or watching the sunset at the jetty.
Great for walking the dogs, picnics, cracker night and food trucks. Kids can run around and sunrises and sunsets are spectacular 💜

For A$60, indulge in gourmet antipasto and sparkling wine while taking in the stunning sights of Darwin Harbour and possibly witnessing a breathtaking sunset. Upgrade to the Alfred Noble for a sunset dinner cruise featuring a delectable menu including local reef fillets and tantalizing desserts.
Darwin harbour sunset dinner cruise travelled late March 2025 would highly recommend this experience. From the initial greeting by the customer care consultant to my on board welcome and service. Excellent atmosphere great dining and beverage options with buffet dinner. The team have attention to detail even catering for food allergies, gluten free, lactose free and other digestive intolerances. Duration approximately 2 hours sit back in spotlessly clean environment enjoy dinner whilst taking in the views from the Charles Darwin. Thank you for a memorable positive experience

Very happy. We sat up top and the view was beautiful. Nice music and generous platters with local produce. I had the gourmet and my daughter had the garden platter. If you love meat go for the gourmet one. The weather was calm and warm. It was lovely watching as the sun set and Darwin City lights began to twinkle. This is my third time (in a span of 25 years). It's a must for me when I visit NT.
Celeste H — Google review
Did the sunset buffet dinner cruise, lovely boat with wonderful staff. There could have been more hot dishes but we got full. Dessert was pretty good too. Apart from the sunset the boat itself does not venture far out. They don't ask you when you are booking but there are a number of tables on the outdoor deck, see if you can ask for one.
Lynne L — Google review
By far the best dinner cruise I have done and a MUST do for any SOLO travellers!! For most solo travellers eating out isn’t always the best experience as most places don’t know what to do with you however this is not the case with the Charles Darwin buffet sunset harbour cruise! Tonight I had the pleasure of sitting at my own table at the very front of the ship with 3 other solos next to me, it was great company while still making it about your individual experience and not turning it into a group booking - not to mention we clearly had the best seats on board!🤩 The food was great and all the staff were amazing! I do have to make a special mention to one of the crew tho - Lidia - what an absolute gem! Not only was she attentive to what anyone needed but she made the entire experience feel very personal! If she wasn’t working she would have made a great addition to the solo front row! 🤩🤩
Narkita — Google review
Interstate visitors, booked the sunset cruise gaze & graze option. Arrived early enough & followed instructions given to us to head to wharf 3, lots of people waiting with some having a dinner booking & others doing same as us. Boat has 3 levels -dining on 1st & 2nd level, G&G on the sun deck. Boarding was a bit chaotic with inpatient people & the walk down the jetty is very steep but has handrails & slip resistant tread, they managed to get everyone on board. Staff were all friendly & service was hectic for them in that first 30 mins or so with everyone wanting drinks given it was still hot in the afternoon. 6pm departure & around 7pm we had our individual gourmet platters, there was so much food on them, we could not get through it all. We sailed at a good pace & was able to enjoy all the sights along the way & staff were attentive to any needs. Bar tabs finalised at your table & docked back around 8pm. Would highly recommend this sunset cruise to anyone looking for a great night in the water & wants to see the amazing sunsets the NT has to offer. We were staying at Adina apartments & we walked down to pier before & after cruise (10mins). Thanks to all the staff for making it a great cruise.
Gary F — Google review
I recently had the pleasure of taking a cruise with Darwin Harbour Cruises, and it was an experience I won't soon forget. From start to finish, everything about the experience was top-notch. First and foremost, the seafood platter was absolutely amazing. It was clearly made with the freshest ingredients, and every item was cooked to perfection. The variety of seafood on offer was impressive, and it was all so delicious that I couldn't pick a favorite. The service provided by the staff was also exceptional. They were friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. It was clear that they take pride in their work and genuinely care about their customers' experience. The cruise itself was a delight as well. The boat was comfortable and well-maintained, and the views of Darwin Harbour were simply breathtaking. The knowledgeable guides provided interesting commentary throughout the cruise, giving us a deeper understanding of the area's history and wildlife. Overall, I highly recommend Darwin Harbour Cruises to anyone visiting Darwin. Whether you're a seafood lover, a nature enthusiast, or just looking for a unique and enjoyable way to experience the beauty of Darwin Harbour, this cruise is sure to deliver. The combination of great seafood, excellent service, and stunning views make it an experience not to be missed.
Poriyo S — Google review
Locals for over 20 years (between us), we loved being on this cruise. Sometimes you just need to see a Darwin sunset from the water to remind you we live in a truly stunning place. The food was delicious and plentiful, the staff were professional and friendly and thanks to the sunset gods for turning on a spectacular sunset for us. Would recommend to locals and visitors alike.
Monica B — Google review
The sunset views on the cruise were absolutely beautiful and the boat ride was calm and relaxing. Staff were friendly and the overall vibe was really nice. I really enjoyed the food but if I had to comment one thing it would be adding more variety – especially hot meal options would really enhance the overall experience and make it feel more like a premium sunset dinner cruise. Overall my experience was great and I would recommend to family and friends.

Bicentennial Park Play Space is a popular destination in Darwin, offering stunning views of the Timor Sea and Darwin Harbour. The park features the iconic Cenotaph, Darwin's first war memorial, honoring Australian soldiers and Indigenous people. The playground offers various attractions such as spinning elements, water play, and a tall slide with a rope web for climbing. There are also slides and play equipment suitable for different age groups. Additionally, there is a fitness park for adults.
Fabulous foreshore playground for the kids with an exercise park for adults! There is picnic tables, a water fountain and public toilets nearby as well. Great place to rest up for a wonderful sunset!
Michael M — Google review
It was a nice park with a lovely grassed area and water outlook but the big slide only has a wire climbing apparatus for the kids to get up. My grandson was upset he couldn't go up there but I was fearful of him falling. Would be nice for a safer option.
Pamela R — Google review
Decent playground on the foreshore. Grassy area, picnic tables, BBQ, shade sails, water bubbler, flying fox, and water views. Plenty of paid parking available.

I had fun working out at the outdoor exercise area 💪🏽. Nice to see families and children have good time in the children playground next to it🤸🏼‍♂️.

Play equipment for all ages. Shade sails and trees. Shelters and seating. Toilets and water bubbler close by. Plenty of parking (not sure of its metered, we walked). Nice paths along Esplanade. Adult exercise equipment in same varsity

Harbor
Darwin Harbour, situated in the Northern Territory of Australia, offers a year-round water temperature of 30 degrees, making it an ideal destination for various water activities such as fishing, swimming, and scuba diving. The tropical climate and rich marine environment support a diverse range of marine life including over 415 fish species, more than 20 sponge species, and over 125 coral species.
Went on the Sunset Harbour Cruise and Dinner. Buffet was OK but slow being fed and wine prices were over the top. $68 for an average bottle of red that cost $38 at a bottle shop. Did a quick lap of the Harbour. It cost $38 for pick up and drop off to your hotel. Much cheaper by Uber.
Trevor D — Google review
The natural harbour is extensively large, filled with ships, boats and crocs. A pleasant place to be out on the water
Ben K — Google review
Darwin harbor is absolutely beautiful, clean and very much worth a evening's cruise
Steve J — Google review
A great harbour filled with history. Fort Hill Wharf is the principal docking area for cruise ships and Stokes Hill Wharf for harbour cruises, also an amazing virtual reality display on the bombing of Darwin and the flying doctor service. There are also great eateries on this wharf. The harbour is estimated to be 2.5 to 4 times the size of Sydney harbour and is home to some 200+ crocodiles ... so don't go swimming!
Frances S — Google review
The harbour is beautiful, great city. Photos taken from on-board the Skandi Darwin. A wonderful vessel that specialises in underwater installations for the shell Prelude. Use remote underwater ROV,s.
Steven J — Google review
Darwin is a very interesting place to visit, there are only two seasons in Darwin wet and dry, when we visited it was the wet season meaning it was very hot and VERY VERY humid, be prepared. The population of Darwin is about 140,000 not big by Australian cities, the people are very helpful and friendly. Around the harbour are a number of tourist attractions, one that sticks to mind is the Royal Australian flying Doctor service, really worth a visit. Another museum tells the history of the part played by Darwin in the second world war facts a lot of people don't know.

A good marina tucked in behind Fannie Bay. It's an extensive area with shops and plenty of restaurants as well as apartments. The marina appears to be well kept. If you are sailing into the marina, you will need to call ahead to ensure they have space for your yacht. Plus, you will need to enter via a lock. If you miss the lock hours, it's easy to moor in the bay or near the channel. I'm not sure about yachty facilities as I didn't need to use them. I would suggest they need to sort out their rubbish disposal options. There are lots of dining options, and it's a great spot to go and watch the sunset on the grassy bank above the beach.

Cullen Bay Marina, 8 Weeks Well Spent Gabrielle was an absolute superstar. She consistently went above and beyond always happy to help, receiving our parts packages, keeping us in the loop, and making us feel welcome and at home. The marina staff and the lockmaster were just as friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We spent 8 weeks here while waiting on upgrades and parts, and genuinely enjoyed our time. From chatting with local business owners to digging into beers and parmigianas at Lola’s and topping off our nights with ice cream, it was a great place to be based. Thanks to the whole team for making it feel like a home port.

The friendly crew ensures a relaxing experience as you take in the gorgeous red sky while lounging on the catamaran.
Highly recommend the Spirit of Darwin sunset cruise as must when visiting Darwin. A great way to spend the evening cruising around the harbour, while enjoying the sunset. Thank you Michelle, Darren and the rest of the crew. 🚢🌅 ⚓️

This dinner cruise was excellent. The team on the Spirit of Darwin were friendly and professional and went over and above to make sure we had a great time. The commentary was really interesting and the quality of the sound system was actually fantastic compared with what can often be the case on such cruises. I loved the beanbags on the front deck; it gave it more of a 'cruising' feel rather than sitting inside the whole time. The food was great and there was a really good variety of drinks available for purchase. Overall a memorable evening.

Booking of 6 for a birthday celebration. Service, food, crew all fantastic. Would highly recommend.

I am certain that your cruises are exceptional, but why would you obstruct the view of the sunset from the primary Cable beach viewing point? There are numerous individuals on the beach; therefore, I kindly request that you move slightly to the side of the main viewing platform for the benefit of others.

An amazing evening! Penny and the girls were great. I'll be recommending this cruise to everyone. And the fish and chips were fresh and hot. Totally worth it and I look forward to doing it again. Well done (girl) team 🙌

What a hidden gem! This family-owned and operated cruise was the perfect ending to our travels in Darwin. Would recommend to all my friends but none of them are Aussies!!! Great tour of the city and wonderful views, we enjoyed our literal last minute booking and dinner with the cruise staff being fun to talk with and extremely knowledgable. Dinner was extra tasty and the appetizers as we cruised were a nice bonus. Highly recommend versus other cruises!!!! Thanks

Friendly staff and nice food, we had a dinner upgrade canape's commentary drink, which is $100 each. The captain gave a darwin geographical condition and some history introduction, it made this tour totally complete, highly recommend to join spirit sunset cruises.

Cullen Bay is a picturesque spot known for its excellent fishing opportunities, with species like Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Trevally, Queenfish and Golden Snapper commonly caught in the area. The large rock wall in front of Cullen Bay is ideal for fishing during the last run out tide. Additionally, the floating pontoon at Cullen Bay Marina Lock offers great fishing spots during different tides.
Love visiting Cullen Bay whilst in Darwin. Great cafes and water front views. Fish feeding at the Greek restaurant was a real treat. We just stopped in for coffee and a cake. Great ferry tours of Darwin Harbour available from Sealink ferries too

It features diverse collections including indigenous and rock art, fossils, natural sciences, and seafaring history. The museum offers engaging public programs such as creative workshops, artist talks, and guided tours of its acclaimed exhibitions.
Great! So much to see, I wish we'd allowed more time for the visit. But we did get round to see everything (just). The Cyclone Tracy display is very vivid and interesting, lots of footage and interviews from the time. The collections of marine animal, birds and insects were very well displayed, beautiful to look at. The contemporary Aboriginal art exhibition which was stunning.

Definately recommend visiting the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT. There is a lot to see here from the entomology displays, cyclone Tracey exhibit and the amazing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. I would definately set aside more time than you expect to look at everything on display. We were lucky enough to visit during the Telstra NATSIA display. The artwork was so varied and captivating it was difficult to select a favourite to vote for.

Great place to spend a couple of hours. Very Interesting exhibitions. Lots of history and culture here. Friendly staff. Only downside is that the bicycle parking was not shaded. Not wanting to return to a melted saddle i had to park it accross the road at the ski club.

What an amazing museum! So many exhibits to see and learn about. They have something for everyone including art, animals (sea, land, and air), local Darwin history, maritime history, and much more. Oh and it's also FREE?!?
JR B — Google review
MAGNT is a small but wonderfully curated museum — and best of all, completely free to enter (though small donations are appreciated). After our 5-day road trip from Alice Springs, it was a no-brainer stop upon arriving in Darwin. The exhibits were diverse and engaging, featuring a beautiful showcase of local fauna, Indigenous art, and a deeply moving section dedicated to Cyclone Tracy. Visiting on a Wednesday meant few crowds, making the experience calm, easy to navigate, and unhurried — a real plus. The well air-conditioned rooms offered a refreshing escape from the heat and humidity outside. Overall, MAGNT is a hidden gem that’s well worth a visit, especially given its accessible location and free entry. Highly recommended for anyone exploring Darwin.

The Darwin Military Museum offers a captivating multimedia experience called the Defence of Darwin Experience, which sheds light on the 1942 bombing raids. The museum primarily focuses on Australia's involvement in World War II, particularly emphasizing the Japanese bombing of Australia. Visitors can explore original uniforms, weaponry, and photographs from that era as well as learn about Australia's participation in various wars from the Boer War to modern times. The museum provides an immersive understanding of Darwin's history and its transformation over time.
Wow! You need to stop here and allow a few hours! There is an interactive room that locks up and plays a re-enactment of the day Darwin was bombed; there is an interactive table which allows you to listen to first count stories and there are so many areas & stories to read and explore! So much thought has gone into this museum and it is well looked after. Plenty of parking, toilets and a tiny Cafe and gift shop. Well done to Norm & the staff. Will be taking all out Southern Visitors to share this exceptional experience.

Quite good if your ok with self guided. There was a lot to look at and the information was good but you need a fair amount of time to read everything. The interactive screens are good and the show was informative but left out a lot of details, leaving you searching for more info. I thought I would have a better understanding of the history leaving the theatre, but then found it in pieces while walking around the property.

The Darwin Military Museum is a must-visit if you’re in Darwin! 🇦🇺✨ I found it fascinating because it really brings the city’s history to life, especially the events of 1942 during World War II. Walking through the museum, you get to see an impressive collection of army trucks 🚛, uniforms 🎖️, and historic weapons 🔫. The displays are well set out and give you a real sense of what Darwin went through during the bombing raids. The multimedia presentations and exhibits make the history feel alive — it’s not just reading information, it’s like stepping back in time. If you love history, the military, or just want to understand Darwin on a deeper level, this place is definitely worth the visit. 🙌

WOW. This has to one of the best museums I have visited in a long time. The cinema was so great and the movie was very well made. We spent good well over two hours and we would definetely come again. Thank you

Visited as part of WW2 Half Day Tour by Land & Sea recent Fri 25/7. Blown away literally! Only visited war memorial museums previously. This is on the actual WW2 Fortification heritage listed site on Darwin's military zone East Point area. The best part is outside - Armoured tanks & military vehicles, Bailey Bridges, recreated living quarters, Gun emplacement building on its original site with exhibits in bunker area surrounded by memorial plaques outside. Plus Holocaust indoor mini complex - it is a huge area set amongst gargantuan Banyan trees & nature's camouflage. So our allocated 1.5 hours was never going to be enough. I watched the Defence of Darwin experience when the war siren activated. After this - did a quick whizz inside & headed out. Covered almost all outdoor exhibits & military fortification by speed reading & taking pics to peruse later. Thankful indeed to live in peaceful times but also in absolute awe of the might, size & sheer intimidation of the military vehicles & equipment of yore. The Furphy water tank in good condition was another highlight- the phrase "to spin a furphy" originated!

The facility features captivating virtual-reality displays and interactive elements that bring history to life, including fascinating stories from events like the bombing of Darwin during World War II.
Helpful and friendly staff. Great museum for everyone, 10 to 110 years of age. Includes Interactive VR experiences, Hologram films. Plenty of reading material but not too much. Gives good insight into RFDS and the bombing of Darwin.
Anita G — Google review
A premier Darwin highlight that is equally informative, engrossing & educational. Recounts not only the origins of the crucial medical & allied health services Australia's Flying Doctors Services provide to the remote & inaccessible outback regions but also the WW2 Bombing of Darwin from a different perspective. After half day tour of Darwin's WW2 bombarment the day prior, I should have been fatigued by overload of info on this subject matter but not! The VR & holographic presentations are brief & totally "eye witness" immersive experience not to be missed. Excellent & moving tribute to essential services RFDS provides to health & mental well-being of remote communities. The origin of this service by Rev. John Flynn & others who contributed is illuminating as is the association with Quensland & NT Aerial Services (Qantas). The VR that showcases this section is in 2 parts: one takes you soaring over the red centre of this continent with pilot's narrative. 2nd: you are in the plane in an emergency situation with a real patient (not confronting). A sensory appreciation for the services & skills of highly trained nurse & navigating pilot. Explore the interior of an actual RFDS plane. Facilty staff are very welcoming & helpful with suggestions on how best to utilise your 1.5 to 2 hours here. A free courtesy shuttle bus operates to pick up & drop off in front of facilty from 11.30 am onwards every 15 mins (check the post outside for times & locations). Operates only from upper areas to this lower Wharf facility which is quite an uphill climb to return. Was almost 2km walk from my hotel middle of Esplanade to get down here but an eye pleasing cliff edge scenic walk heading towards Darwin Waterfront via Skybridge. Got here just after 9.00 am opening y'day Sun 27/7/25. Much quieter! Avoid VR strap on after a sweaty walk - fogs up the lenses ☺️. Courtesy wipes & sanitisers provided for before & after use. Excellent gift shop here. Loved it! ❤️❤️

Mindil Beach is a west-facing beach in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. It is famous for its twice-weekly Sunset Market during the dry season, where visitors can find a wide variety of Asian food stalls and local crafts. The market draws huge crowds from all walks of life and offers an array of food choices and handcrafted items. After enjoying the market's offerings, visitors can take a leisurely stroll down to the beach to witness a breathtaking sunset over the ocean.
This is the most vibrant market I've been to in Australia. An abundance of quality food stalls, with cooking smells wafting across the site. Being able to sit on the sand and watch the sun setting over the water, as you enjoy your meal, is an unforgettable experience. Make sure to allow enough time to park, grab some food and get to the beach, so you don't miss the show! For those into arts, crafts, massage and face painting, you'll not be left wanting, either.
Rich A — Google review
A great experience, a good range of food stalls and an amazing sunset to sit and watch. I visited about 12 years ago and these markets seemed to be lacking craft stalls this time, however was a good local experience. We had ice cream and watched some people perform at the stage area which was lovely. Parking was really easy too
Alicia C — Google review
28 Sep 2025 // Back at the market before leaving Darwin tomorrow. We got there around 6 pm and spent about 20 minutes finding a parking spot—definitely come early if you’re driving! The Sunday crowd was much bigger compared to Thursday when we first visited. Tried the pork stick (AUD 6) after a long queue—super fatty, juicy, and very salty.. Also grabbed the garlic butter corn cob (AUD 9), and it was amazing! The vendor asked if we wanted salt, I said no, and it was still delicious. Highly recommend eating the corn while it’s hot! 25 Sep 2025 // Came to the market around 4+ and it was already crowded. There’s a wide variety of food — from Chinese to Thai, Mexican, Japanese, Korean and more. We settled for a kebab and a bowl of chicken laksa. The kebab was really good at AUD15. The flatbread was crispy, generously filled with chicken, and the mix of ingredients inside made it delicious. The chicken laksa was less impressive. Coming from Singapore, I found it weak in flavor compared to our spicier version. The Darwin version was sweeter, with a strong coconut taste. It had so much chicken that I could hardly find the noodles. For dessert, I tried the churros in the “must-try” Lotus flavor. It didn’t seem freshly made and wasn’t as crispy as expected. Lotus is definitely sweet — I probably clocked my sugar intake for the whole year with that dessert. I also got 10% off for paying cash at the Laska stall. Credit cards are widely accepted but come with a 1.6–1.9% surcharge, so cash is a better option, even though I usually prefer going cashless.

I really enjoyed my 2 hours here and the Korean food I had, which was excellent, with lots of other national foods available. Certainly vibrant, and crowded, but parking was easy and plentiful, at least earlier in the evening. You can’t take a dog into the market, a shame but which is probably for the best as it was packed. The sunsets are fantastic to watch from here and even better from the vantage points on the dunes. It’s worth going to whilst on you travels
Paul S — Google review
I always visit the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets while I am in Darwin, as it is always a highlight for me:) The markets run every Thursday and Sunday from 4 pm to 9 pm, during the dry season which is late April through to late October. It does get extremely busy, so the crowds might not be for everyone. But the main attraction is the sunset. The view from Mindil Beach is pretty special; The sun looks bigger here as it sets right over the Arafura sea and you get that uninterrupted horizon. It’s one of those sunsets that really stops you in your tracks. Everyone claps when it is over because it is spectacular! There’s a great mix of street food stalls, local arts and crafts, and live music. I even saw people doing camel rides along the beach as the sun was coming down. Something to note – you can’t bring dogs into the market area, unless it’s a certified assistance dog. It’s a bit of a shame if you’re travelling with your pet, but good to know before you go. In July, the sun sets around 6.30 pm, so it’s worth getting there early to find a good spot, and get a good car park. If you’re visiting Darwin, this is a must-do – especially for that sunset.
Happy D — Google review
What a great marketing to visit especially for the food stalls. Incredible food from all the way around the world. Great clothes and nice Nan stores so do yourself a favour and get down and check it out and I recommend going early as the queues get so long once the sun starts to set.

Loads of stalls selling things like jewelry,t-shirts,sandals,skin creams, crocodile products ,natural insect repellent and various local made products. Entertainment from whip cracking, fire twirling and indigenous music and dance. Well worth a visit

Obviously a must go while in darwin, at this particular time I believe it was on each Thursday and Sunday, I went on the Thursday. The range of food and drinks available was remarkable! I had the burgers from the aussie burgers truck,I had the crocodile and buffalo which were so good!!! I didn't check out the non food part of the market so can't comment on that. The sunset was stunning, be aware it does get full of people so perhaps good to get a spot early. Was a great place to relax after a day of touring, there was a small taxi rank available there too which was a bonus.

It's known for its bustling atmosphere with live music and food stalls offering diverse options such as Cambodian rice balls, laksa, donuts, lemonade, and satay squid.
It has been 11 years since I left Darwin, and the only food I was craving was market food, and Greek food. Parap Markets was one of my favourite places to visit on a Saturday morning. So many fond memories. This market has the most delicious authentic food. From the fresh juices, to the famous laksas and paw paw salads, there is something for everyone. I highly recommend visiting these markets.

TAKE CASH so that you can buy whatever you want :) Highly recommend- Mary’s laksa. One of the best laksa I had in Australia. Also, very affordable! Yes, the queue is long but it’s quick anyways. This market had a lot of Asian food stalls which I appreciate! :)

Parap Market is one of my favourites in Darwin. It’s open every Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm, all year round; but it’s especially lovely during the dry season. The weather in July is absolutely delicious; cool in the morning with clear skies, which makes it the perfect setting to enjoy a bowl of laksa or something fresh while walking around. There’s a great mix of stalls offering food from all over Southeast Asia, fresh produce, handmade goods, flowers, and local art. My absolute go to is the Popia; the spring rolls here are the best!! I also always get the Vietnamese pork skewers and paw paw salad—so yummy:) The smoothie and juice stalls are beautiful too; perfect for something cool and refreshing when it's starting to warm up. It does get busy, but parking is usually okay if you arrive early or don’t mind walking a little. Dogs aren’t allowed in the market area, which is a shame if you’re bringing your pup along—but good to know ahead of time. I don’t have many photos from my visits here; which says a lot because I usually take heaps—but I’m too busy living my best life eating all the food 😆 Highly recommend checking it out if you're in Darwin. I love it!

《Parap Village Markets》 If you’re visiting Darwin, Northern Territory, make sure to save your Saturday morning for the Parap Village Markets — one of the city’s most beloved weekend destinations. Open only on Saturdays, this vibrant market bursts with life, offering everything from international street food and refreshing tropical drinks to unique handicrafts and local artworks that capture the creative spirit of the Top End. It’s the perfect place to wander, taste, and explore, whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or spending a relaxed weekend with family. The friendly atmosphere and mix of cultures truly reflect Darwin’s laid-back yet cosmopolitan charm. Among the many tempting food stalls, one that absolutely stands out is HUONG VET MARKET STALL. Their BBQ Pork Banh Mi is, without exaggeration, the best I’ve ever had — perfectly grilled pork, crisp baguette, and a balance of sweet, savory, and fresh flavors that’s simply unforgettable. If you ever find yourself in Darwin, don’t miss the chance to experience this lively market — a true local gem that captures the essence of the Northern Territory. 🌴🥢🥖

Bustling place on a Saturday morning. Tried a laksa from the Purple Ladies - absolutely delicious. And the pork belly straight off the grill was unbelievable - flavourful, juicy and so tender. Definitely worth a visit!

One of the best village markets I've ever been to. What it lacks in size, it makes up in quality. Nice fresh produce, hot food like laksa, satay, banh mi and more. I highly recommend the satay stall and purple lady laksa. There are also juice bars, flower stalls and crafts, as well as plenty of nice cafes nearby.

Parap market is terrific for its diverse food stalls. Try the Laos salads, rice balls in a coconut sauce (my personal fave) or sweet pork on a stick. Lots of choices of things on a stick...all good 😋 Beautiful fresh cut flowers & many other stalls to browse. Oh & don't forget to grab an authentic Laksa from Mary's to take home. Fresh breads & pastries, sweet home made desserts..too much to mention. A must go when visiting the Top End 🤠

Nightcliff Jetty, located in the neighborhood of Nightcliff in the north of Darwin, is a beloved spot for both locals and tourists. It offers uninterrupted views of the famous Darwin sunsets that light up the sky with a glorious orange glow, making it a popular location for wedding photos during the sunset. The old wooden jetty is a favorite among locals for fishing, while others prefer to relax on the rocks nearby to take in the stunning sunset views.
Go & enjoy a sunset drink. There's a food truck down here often. I don't know what they serve as we always take our own snack platters. Sit, relax & enjoy the scenery
Iyah O — Google review
This is well with a visit as it is very popular with both local fisher people and those wanting to use the extensive path for exercise plus it has picnic tables nearby and we were able to pick up a coffee on our morning walk. It has really lovely views over the surrounding beaches and out to the sea including to Tiwi Island. Apparently it is also a very popular spot for viewing sunset in sunrise.
Ross D — Google review
One of my favourite places in Darwin to have a picnic by the beach, watch the sunset, or go for a walk with friends. The sea breeze is refreshing, and the views along the foreshore are always stunning, especially as the sun dips below the horizon. There are plenty of shaded spots, walking paths, and places to sit and relax, making it perfect for both a quiet moment alone or a lively catch-up with loved ones. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming — a true Darwin gem.

Nightcliff Jetty is a wonderful recreational spot for families in Darwin. It offers stunning sea views, fresh breezes, and plenty of space for walking, fishing, and relaxing together. The atmosphere is peaceful and safe, making it a perfect place for kids to play and families to spend quality time outdoors.

What a fabulous view. Clean and well signed area beautiful rock cliff to watch the ocean. Lots of fishing happening with fish being caught.

Nightcliff Jetty is a top fishing spot. Sabiki rigs work well for live bait, then you can rig them up floating or sinking for bigger fish. I’ve seen plenty of mackerel, trevally, queenfish and even sharks caught here. Always a good chance of action.
Ziggy Z — Google review
Lovely jetty overlooking the cliffs on both sides. Amazing spot for sunrises and sunsets. Seen a few people fishing from the jetty too. There is a coffee van right at the jetty. Great place to grab a coffee and sit on the cliff rocks.

This place is unique and the first plc any one new to Darwin should go visit. It is a bar on the roof of a 16 story hotel over looking Darwin city with 360 degree views. If u are staying in the Zen hotel, from 3 to 8 every afternoon they put out all you can eat complimentary snacks. Hidden Gem with Stunning Views We stumbled across Zen Rooftop Bar while walking through Darwin and decided to stop in for a Father’s Day celebration with the family and we’re so glad we did! The rooftop setting is beautiful with amazing views of both the city and the ocean. It really feels like a hidden gem with a relaxed vibe and modern atmosphere. What made it even better was the thoughtful extras complimentary nibbles and canapés (both hot and cold) lollies for the kids and plenty of non alcoholic drinks for those of us not drinking. The staff were welcoming and friendly and everything felt well organised but still casual and easy going. A great spot for families or anyone looking to enjoy Darwin from a different perspective. Highly recommend!

Fantastic place to enjoy a drink and complimentary canapés, definitely recommend booking a table on a Friday night as it was busy but there is plenty of room and tables otherwise. Huge selection of drink and uninterrupted view of the sunset and surrounds. Thanks to Dene, a fantastic bloke and made us feel very welcome... (although did deny fireworks from the roof 😆)

Just the best place to watch anywhere in Darwin. Territory day sunsets or just watching life below go bye. Such welcoming staff at the rooftop bar and the free food is an absolute bonus and so tasty. Definitely will be coming back again next time we visit for sure.

Amazing 360 degree views of downtown Darwin, with lovely sunsets. Friendly staff and complimentary snacks. Well worth a visit for the views alone!

Great views! Bar tenders were good when your at the bar, no bar seating. I ordered a long Island ice tea after reading there recipe and thought this will be excellent! Well too bad, I dont think they used half of what is listed and they may have used a cheaper brand of alcohol as the pour was from a different container. It was not good. Being a gluten for punishment and wanting to give away $24 for another made by the other bar tender, well got the same result.😔 No one ever came to ask if we would like anything or even talked to us. The self serve food that is supposed to be free and was nearly empty and wasn't refilled while we were there. Wouldn't go back even with a date.
Nathaniel L — Google review
Really good experience and staff! After a delay and some problems with changing the keg the manager was kind enough to offer some complimentary beers for the wait. The vibe is really good with the options of nibbles after you purchase a drink. It gets busy so best to arrive an hour or so before sunset. Will be recommending and definitely be returning 👍

Night market
Mindil Beach Sunset Market is a vibrant hub that draws both locals and tourists alike, offering an eclectic mix of over 300 food stalls featuring global cuisines. From delectable Hong Kong dishes to Greek souvlaki, paella, burgers, and delightful desserts like ice cream and sorbet, there's something for every palate. Operating weekly from April to October, this market not only serves up mouthwatering meals but also showcases unique Aboriginal art pieces for those looking to take home a piece of culture.

This is a must visit marketplace with really lovely views out to the sea. The markets are incredibly vibrant with lots of music, food stalls of all varieties and lots of knickknacks and artwork to purchase. Just wondering around the market was very nice and I can understand why this is one of the iconic places to visit while in Darwin.
Ross D — Google review
This is the most vibrant market I've been to in Australia. An abundance of quality food stalls, with cooking smells wafting across the site. Being able to sit on the sand and watch the sun setting over the water, as you enjoy your meal, is an unforgettable experience. Make sure to allow enough time to park, grab some food and get to the beach, so you don't miss the show! For those into arts, crafts, massage and face painting, you'll not be left wanting, either.
Rich A — Google review
The Mindil Beach Markets are a must-visit — and it’s easy to see why they’re one of Darwin’s top attractions. The atmosphere was incredible, set right by the beach with a stunning sunset over the water that truly added to the magic. There’s a huge variety of food stalls offering global cuisines — from American and Southern European to Southeast Asian and classic Aussie — alongside quirky arts and crafts, all run by local vendors. Supporting NT small businesses made the experience even more meaningful. Live music and whip-cracking demonstrations added to the entertainment, and for something a little different, camel rides along the beach are also available. Facilities were thoughtfully laid out, with toilets at both ends, portable ATMs, and plenty of parking (we Ubered there with no trouble at all). Prices were a little above average, but that’s expected in Darwin. All in all, we had an amazing time — it’s absolutely worth planning your visit around a Thursday or Sunday evening to catch this vibrant, beachside market.

A must do experience if you're in Darwin. Relaxed vibe of a top end market in the warmer drier climates of Darwin There are a lot of different food stalls to taste while you're here at Mindil Beach Night Markets. The freshly cut mangoes taste beautiful,

Nightcliff Beach, located on the northern side of Beagle Gulf in Darwin, offers a picturesque coastal walk with crystal-clear waters and vibrant orange rocks. This 300-meter beach is a family-friendly destination featuring a public pool, cafe, playground, exercise equipment, BBQ facilities, and bikeways. The stunning cliffs along the coast light up during sunset, making it an ideal spot for sunset watching from Nightcliff Jetty to Nightcliff Pool.
For the most magnificent and breathtaking sunsets and sunrise, I live along Casuarina drive so I have the perfect view every single day! Lovely place to have an evening walk, beautiful picnic spots, play area for kids and lots of food vans of different varieties each day! Absolutely recommend if you visiting Darwin. Nothing much about the beach area though, just lovely for the dogs to play on the sand

We enjoyed a very pleasant walk on the pathway near Casuarina Drive with views out over Beagle Gulf and onto the Tiwi Islands. The beach is very popular and is also quite beautiful with clear waters & a number of outstanding rock features including Cheryl‘s rock and some rock carving up towards the end. There are a couple of coffee shops on this walk as well.

Best place for a walk, morning or evening. Even in wet season when big storms loom on the horizon this is just one of my favourite outdoor spots in Darwin. I often come here to do some outdoor painting and sketching.
Betty B — Google review
I lived in Nightcliff for 16 years and my family and I spent many days playing on Nightcliff beach. The sunsets are truly magical 💛🧡 I don't recommend swimming as there are crocodiles around, but when the tide goes out there's lots of little pools of shallow water the kids can splash in. It's a great place for a family picnic or a romantic stroll on the beach. There's usually food vans along the Nighcliff foreshore most days making it a great place to grab a meal and watch the sunset. Plenty of picnic tables and electric BBQs available and public toilets at various locations along the foreshore.

This beach is truly a hidden gem! It offers another great spot to spend your evening, whether you want to watch a breathtaking sunset, have a delightful picnic, or engage in some invigorating exercise. The serene beauty of this place, combined with its peaceful ambiance, creates a perfect setting for relaxation and outdoor activities. The wide shoreline provides ample space for a leisurely stroll or even a game of beach volleyball. The sunset views here are simply mesmerizing, casting a warm and enchanting glow over the horizon. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a tranquil escape, this beach has something to offer everyone. Don't miss the chance to experience its charm!

Fantastic accommodation for a family. Clean, quiet and well maintained. Great location to access the delights of Darwin City and the foreshore. Accessible for those with mobility challenges. Great communication from the hosts.

Location is great, view was amazing, great sized balcony for hanging washing and we had our meals out there watching the sunset. The room was nice and tidy and practical, few small things like showers weren’t very hot, always had tap on full hot and was ok but not as hot as we like and the sink in bathroom didn’t drain very well in master but other than that the room was good. I probably wouldn’t book a hotel again through this third party company though as you don’t get the perks of a hotel like room service for food, linen changes, extra key for lift if there’s more than one of you, breakfast included etc so that was inconvenient.

Government House is the official residence and gardens of the Administrator of the Northern Territory, constructed between 1870 and 1879. The site is part of a collection of historic buildings including Myilly Point Heritage Precinct and Browns Mart, reflecting Darwin's pioneering past. Although not generally open to the public, special open days offer a chance to explore this beautiful historic building that has survived significant events such as the bombing of Darwin and Cyclone Tracey.
We had arranged a private tour of Government House. We were a group of ex navy personnel who had helped in the clean up of Darwin after cyclone Tracey. Government house looks stunning from the outside. This also applies to the interior. We met the Administrator and had cool drinks and canapes

This is truly the gem in the NT's crown. An historical building right in the heart of the city. Usually it is closed to the public, so this visit was very special. Absolutely beautiful and I wished it was open to the public more often and I'm grateful I got to see it.

This was a real bonus, after we left the WW2 tunnels and went discovering, to find that last Friday & Saturday, it was Open to the Public (only 2 days each year). We had a stroll through the house, which is beautiful, then a stroll around the stunning gardens with ocean views. Followed this with live music and afternoon tea supplied by a local Boy Scout group. We even managed to meet The Administrator (Governor) and his partner. A lovely surprise.

Did the gaze and graze and loved it! Pricier but still reasonable for the drinks, crew were lovely and of course the sunset was spectacular. 2 of us went and each got the different platter. It was a great mix for us to share for a light dinner!
