Where to eat: the 50 best restaurants in Ibusuki

🕒 Wait : The wait was really long (we were here 12th August, but it was a Japan holiday, so maybe it was extra long for us). We arrived at the place around 2:30pm and finished eating around 4:30pm, the wait was approx. 1.5h. We basically had dinner there 🥺 🍜 Food : The somen had very nice texture, chewy and the cold water makes it super refreshing. The onigiris were just warm rice, the inari was okay, the fish was quite good, and the miso was actually quite nice! Pork skewers were a bit bland, and chicken were ok. 💁‍♀️ Service : Not a service place to start with, you line up and the first stop is to order and pay. Then you bring your receipt to another staff who arranges a table for you. Water here is self service, you grab your own. 🧽 Hygiene : The water is drained each time after each group. But everything is basically washed over with water only. Shouldn't be much of a concern since the only things inside are the noodles. We quite liked the somen, but the wait was in fact, quite a put off. If you plan to come here, please come in advance.

Delicious somen noodle, fun, and very friendly. Highly recommend. We drove and it was a little hard to find the parking lot but a nice guy helped us. We have to park in the municipal parking lot and walk in what it seems the forest. See pictures.

This place seems to be popular more because of gimmick than the taste. The noodle tasted ordinary. Grilled fish was quite nice. Soup tasted very fishy. Rice balls were plain. I liked the environment though.

Visited here for lunch again after 9 years. We still love the soumen and the environment here. Prices for the set meals have gone up by about 20% vs 9 years ago, which is very reasonable as compared to neighbouring countries

There are two restaurants next to each other. We planned to visit another one called 唐船峡そうめん流し味の長寿庵. My friend parked to the wrong side so he thought this is the one. The environment and the facilities are very different. This one use plastic basket to serve noodles but 長寿庵 uses bamboo basket. Price is more or less the same. Overall the experience is fun. Noodle taste ok. Grilled Fish is tasty. Raw fish is not that fresh. Soup is quite fishy. 😂

It’s an interesting experience to eat noodle like that, however, the taste is just soso. Besides the noodle, the lunch set comes with sashimi, grilled fish and rice.

It is a government operated restaurant. The environment is soso and you may use 1600/2000yen to try their noodle set, beware the soup and sashimi have small bones in it. The staff are helpful and nice, you may find them to call taxi for you to nearby spots.

I was looking for somewhere to eat after bathing at the local Onsen and google recommended this restaurant. When I arrived there was a line out the door, which I personally view as a sign of quality. After all, nobody lines up for bad food at dinner time. I waited for 45 minutes and even missed my train to dine here and I can say it was well worth it! I had the black pork cutlet and it was out of this world. They have you grind sesame seeds by hand in a mortar and pestle to create the dipping sauce at the table. Everything was so delicious that I wanted more. However, after a second serving of rice I was full. The service was great and the atmosphere was very authentic. This was my last meal before I leave Japan and I couldn’t have asked for it to be any better. I hope to return in the future to eat here again.

Nice place to have our lunch after the steam sand bath. Had the Kurobuta black pork tonkatsu and unagi rice set. Both were excellent and very satisfying. Wash down with cold draft beer.. Umai!

Had lunch here before heading back to Kagoshima, very nice little canteen! They offer quite a good variety of food from local cuisines to Japanese family food. Price is also very reasonable. Very close to the station, you can easily catch the train after a lovely lunch. Can recommend in general!

Right near Ibusuki station, we were looking for lunch before our train (Ibusuki No Tamatebako) ride back to Kagoshima & this was one of the few places open. To our surprise they served the prefecture specialty for shabu shabu in a lunch set - Kagoshima Berkshire pork which we had been looking to try; as well as local Wagyu. What a fantastic feast, both meats were soft & tender, & the accompanying side dishes were almost a meal of their own! Everything came quickly even though it was a fairly busy lunch period & the menu politely indicating the broth may set menu may take some time to come. Lovely decor & they were playing nice instrumental piano Christmas standards making for easy relaxing atmosphere. Definitely recommend for anyone travelling to Ibusuki!

We chose this restaurant for dinner as it offer all the specialty of Kagoshima 1) Satsuma Roppaku Black Pork 2) Satsuma Chicken 3) Kagoshima Black Beef As a group of 9, we ordered also the Ibusuki tamarin bowl, fried fish cakes, grill spare Ribs Overall an enjoyable meal and will recommend to try.

Had the Shabu Shabu set with the kurogyu (black beef) and kurobata (black pork). Set was very generous with a sashimi starter and a lovely beef stew with sweet potato. The shabu shabu was exceptional. So delicious and melt in your mouth. Highly recommend

Food: Ordered kurobuta shabu-shabu. The portions are relatively big for the price and two between 3 people was enough with extra sides. The meat is tender and delicious! All of the sides were tasty and you can eat a lot of local dishes in one place. Shochu was cheap and you got a lot for your money. Service: Was a touch better than average. We were able to get a booth by making a reservation. There is a free parking area around the back. Service was prompt and polite. Atmosphere: Booth seats were nice. There was a group who were a bit noisy, but it didn't bother me too much. It is more of an izakaya than a restaurant, so it's to be expected.

Had a good lunch meal here during the holiday weekend. Friendly staff and the sushi was average, but still good. There was slightly more wasabi in each sushi than what we were used to, but still solid quality. Unagi meal was quite good, but the rice was little over-cooked. The ambiance was nice, traditional Japanese style interior and furnishings. Not a bad place to stop by for a meal!

It was a great meal, with a little long preparation time (30min) but I was warned of this in advance. The price for this lunch special was exceptional (1080¥). Staff was helpful and friendly. the premium sushi set was definitely not a mind blowing one....far from it. the unagi set was good, I bet unagi is a zero km ingredient in ibusuki... they have a menu in english. then smoking customers made things worse...we should have probably ordered other things.

This onsen hot spring is located inside a hotel facility. The hotel send very clean and tidy. There are two bathtubs for painkillers use. One is located in the building, the other is one is outside on the terrace. You can see the whole bay from the bathtub. There are lockers in the dressing room, where you can place your belongings while bathing.

One of the best Hot-spring Hotel we've ever been! Although it's a 3-star, but it's actually around 4-5 star with extremely tidy and tradition japanese interior. Services were excellent. Dinner and breakfast is half-buffet with world-class fresh ingredients. We stayed in the seaview room and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with soft and relaxing breeze. Unforgettable experience. Totally worth the money and highly recommended!

Quite normal ramen. Nothing much special about it. The pork slice is too thick, so it feels like eating too much fat and is not very appetizing. The shabu meat is much better and tastier. On the bright side, their ramen is packed full of ingredients, so you are at least getting the bang for your buck.

I’ve heard from a friend of mine that this ramen won the price for best Kagoshima Ramen in the prefecture so naturally I went the next time I was in Ibusuki. I’ve had the Kaimondake Ramen (named after the volcano in Ibusuki) and it was a very large portion. But the ramen didn’t disappoint. It is a tonkotsu broth but more on the light side and not too fatty topped with multiple toppings. Ramen enthusiasts should definitely try this place when they are on a visit!

Well, said to be one of the best in Kagoshima, but not exactly my favourite, yet one of very high quality, that’s for sure. Bonito(skipjack tuna)flake ramen is famous, but other standard ramen was better for me. Always crowded with tourists, that’s another point I’d not prefer to visit at lunch time. Soup was tasty but a little salty for me.

One of the two famous ramen in town. I tried it and the meal was rich and satisfying. Actually, I’ve tried three ramen restaurants in Ibusuki and I’ve got to say I like this one the most. The best ramen I ate in Japan so far. Ramen served with soup of 鰹魚. The taste of soup is great with rich aftertaste. Lighter taste compared with traditional one with pork. It means I can drink most of them after I ate the noodle which I cannot do it with pork soup. The dumpling and vegetable are great too. The host is polite and welcome to visitors. Parking area is provided. Highly recommended for visitors to 指宿.

Drove all the way from Kagoshima to use the Ibusuki Sand Baths. Stopped along the way for some delicious Kagoshima-style Ramen. The Kara-Chashu Ramen and the original style ramen were enjoyable. Generous with green onions (negi). Broth was light and flavourful with the right amount of salt. Best ramen in Ibusuki I think!

Having first tried Jiro-san’s excellent ramen in New York’s Ramen Lab on Kenmare back in 2016, I’ve always enjoyed his Kagoshima ramen. Little wonder that he won best ramen in New York two years in a row. Had to visit HQ and happy to report that his ramen is still the best in my view. Go Ramen! Go Jiro!

The taste of soup is very rich. One of the best in Kagoshima pref. A little distant from Ibusuki station if you come on foot. Yet close enough from Nigatsuden JR station. A complete gem in the rough—fantastic wine and food at local prices. Had a steak salad (fantastic wagyu), pizza (crust was amazing), and great pasta, together with a wine flight and cheese for dessert. Definitely the best option in Ibusuki!

Really excellent. This is family run, to an extremely high standard. Decor and design are high quality; service good and friendly, Shochu selection admirable, and the food really enjoyable. The price is reasonable, both for food and drink, and they obviously use high quality ingredients, particularly the meat. I tried the beef and some pork dishes, both of which are local specialties, and I enjoyed them all. Sashimi was also very good too. Too good maybe to class as an izakaya - the all round experience is too good for that!
