Cycling park
Ohori Park is a serene city park in Fukuoka, Japan, offering a peaceful escape with its large lake and waterfront exercise paths. The park is situated on the grounds of the old Fukuoka Castle, featuring remnants of the castle and a tranquil pond that was once part of the moat system. Visitors can explore three small interconnected islands within the pond via charming bridges. Known for its scenic beauty, Ohori Park is popular for walking and jogging amidst lush greenery and traditional Japanese gardens.
Beautiful and Relaxing City Escape 🌸🏞️ Ohori Park is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Fukuoka! The large lake surrounded by walking paths and greenery makes it perfect for a morning stroll, jog, or paddleboat ride. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons — cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant colors in autumn. There are also cozy cafés and benches where you can just sit and enjoy the view. A wonderful spot to unwind and enjoy nature right in the heart of the city! 🌿☕🦆

Amazing park! During the summer its very hot but lots of big trees which gives a lot of shade when needed. For ¥250 we also visited the Japanese garden, 10/10 recommend. Very relaxing and quiet, not a lot of people.
Vivian T — Google review
Ohori Park is a spacious, well-maintained park with plenty of joggers and a separate path for walkers, making it enjoyable for everyone. Free to enter, the paths are clean, with nice views across the lake and a pleasant walkway through the middle. You’ll see dog walkers and locals relaxing throughout the day. Toilets are clean, Western style, and adequate. Easy to reach from Hakata Station by bus #9 — about 260 JPY per person.
Karen G — Google review
Many of the facilities are thoughtfully designed and very practical. It’s a great place for families of all ages to relax and spend time together. There’s a large playground, as well as barbecue and picnic areas. You can rent boats by the lake, and there’s also a museum to visit. It’s an excellent spot to let your pets roam, ideal for seniors to take leisurely walks, and perfect for young people to go jogging. There are also many dining options nearby, so you can easily spend an entire day here.
Vien C — Google review
We were visiting Hakata-Fukuoka on a cruise liner and decided to visit Ohori Park. We took a train to the park... a large man-made lake (pond) with bridges to a small central island. At one end is a Japanese Garden (200 yen entry per adult) which is well worth a visit. Toilets are available inside the gardens. Car parking also available.
Steve D — Google review
If you’re in the area come for a walk or run. Super cool area with tons to see or just relax and enjoy the scenery. The castle was closed when we went but we got some tea and small bites from a shop along the trail.
Charlie W — Google review
A beautiful place to chill and unwind. Ohori Park is perfect for a relaxing walk, a quiet picnic, or just enjoying the peaceful lake view. Many people come here to jog, sit by the water, or simply take in the calm surroundings. A great spot to slow down and enjoy Fukuoka’s nature.
Thadd 李 — Google review
Absolutely stunning park, it's humongous! You can walk around it leisurely and it'll take any an hour. Very relaxing place with a little island in the middle of the lake. Lots of animals and some snack bars around. Perfect to chill out at on a sunny day.

Fukuoka Tower is a modern skyscraper in Fukuoka, Japan, offering an observation deck with panoramic views of the city and bay. It stands at a height of 234 meters, providing visitors with stunning vistas of the glittering city below. The tower also features dining options and a lounge for visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery.
It was a gloomy evening when we visited Fukuoka Tower around 6 p.m. There was no line at the ticket counter, and the entrance fee was ¥1,000 per person. We stayed for about 30 minutes because that’s all it really takes to enjoy the panoramic view of the city. Perhaps because it’s a major tourist spot, the admission feels a bit pricey for what it offers. It’s best to visit the tower later in the evening to see the city lights. Visited in late September 2025.
LA F — Google review
Comparing the place, the ticket price is high. Overhyped. I think the space is not enough for too many people. They should limit the number of people so that everyone can enjoy the place. There is no seating option, so it is difficult to stand for long periods of time and enjoy the view. If I had known this beforehand, I would not have gone because I have severe back pain. You can't even sit on the floor. There are some places to take pictures, but if you ask the staff there, they won't take pictures, you have to ask the person behind the line to take pictures. So it's better if you can go with your own group. Overall I don't like it.
Dil A — Google review
I know it’s a touristy spot but it’s something that you should go to see especially if it’s an nice cloud free day. I’d probably recommend going at night or during sunset because you’ll get the best views. If you go on a weekend I’d probably recommend you buy your tickets early to skip the line. Don’t forget to check out the gift shop and walk across the street to check out the other places.
Nathan O — Google review
Not the Tower's fault, we took a gamble on if the weather would hold out. The rain and clouds came about 10 minutes after we got to the top. Once the clouds hit, we couldn't see anything. It had a 6 stamp rally. Photos to take awesome foggy photos in 2 spots. There is a love locket and a pin ball machine to get your fortune! We still had a good time with what we had!
Yuuki A — Google review
Great spot for panoramic views of Fukuoka and Hakata Bay. Best time is around sunset — city lights look amazing. The tower area is clean, modern, and easy to reach. Not a long visit but worth it for the scenery and photos.
Uttapong R — Google review
Video and photo taken with an iPhone 12, so it doesn’t do the view justice. Breathtaking sunset views of Fukuoka. Little to no waiting time. Glass windowed Elevator allows for views on the way up as well. The observation deck was spacious enough for everyone, not as crowded as Kyoto tower. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Fukuoka!
Justin Y — Google review
I went there at the end of july and it was a great experience, even though there was a lot of people there, it didn’t hinder me from getting good photos of the sunset of the sea. The surrounding beach environment is really picturesque at sunset.
San — Google review
The night view of Fukuoka is exceptionally impressive, with a relatively low number of visitors. I visited the location around 8pm on a weekday. There are staff members present who provide guidance and information about the building in Japanese. While purchasing tickets on-site is acceptable, it is recommended to reserve tickets online in advance to avoid queues.

Canal City Hakata is not just your average shopping mall - it's a vibrant entertainment hub that offers an array of experiences. This sprawling complex boasts 250 shops, two hotels, offices, movie theaters, arcades, and a performance stage surrounding a 180-meter canal. Visitors can enjoy fountain shows every half hour, adding to the lively atmosphere. From popular Western brands like Zara and H&M to Japanese favorites like Sanrio, there's something for every shopper.
Even if you didn’t want to go shopping, the building itself is so pretty here. They also have water fountain shows quite regularly. We saw one in the day and again once at night. Worth going just to enjoy the architect.

Canal City Hakata is such a cool place! It’s way more than just a shopping mall — there’s a little canal running through it, colorful lights, and even fountain shows. You can shop, eat, relax, and just wander around without getting bored. The whole vibe is super fun and laid-back. Definitely one of those places that make you go “wow” when you walk in!
Katarzyna S — Google review
Canal City Hakata is easily accessible by Kushida Shrine station by following the crowd and arrows to round about into the mall. It has a good mix of high and mid end shops. My objectives is to get a good pair of walking shoes for my mum and myself at Alpens Fukuoka. Most eateries are on Basement 1 which will see crowds of people taking videos of the canal fountain show happening every hour. My description will not do justice to Canal City, which houses a performing arts centre, Grand Hyatt and ten floors of space. I will spend a whole day here if not for my limited itinerary this round. The mall is definitely kids friendly as well as great for families to explore, so don't short-change yourselves by saying "Oh, I'm just passing by." We ended up coming back two more times for food and rest after checking out Nakasu Food Stalls which is nearby. I'll consider booking an accomodation nearby for my next visit after tackling Hakata and Tenjin.
Alvin L — Google review
Canal City Hakata is quite a large complex with a canal running through the center. There are a wide variety of shops selling clothes, shoes, and toys. You’ll find places like Sanrio Gallery, Ghibli Shop, Disney Store, ABC Mart, and Gundam Base, as well as tons of gachapon (capsule toy) machines. There’s also a fountain show every 30 minutes, which is really fun to watch!
Yada O — Google review
Large and comprehensive, especially Alpen which has a huge selection of sports, hiking, and camping gear available. The mall is modern and well-organised, and the basement is full of anime-related stores which is perfect for those interested.
Jonathan C — Google review
It's a huge mall with loads of shops like Muji, ABC Mart, specialty golf shop, North Face, and a host of eateries. Saizeriya, hamburger restaurant, beef restaurant and even the infamous Ichiran noodle outlet is here. For toy enthusiasts, the basement draws the manga and Japanese super hero crowd. It also boast of a canal that has a lights cum water fountain show. However, the show was a let down.
金Ck — Google review
We were lucky that we came here ~ so my kid did not miss this water festival! Every kid loves this water fest very much! Apart from this, this huge shopping mall has lots of restaurants and a wide variety of shops for kids, young people, and families.
Adamas L — Google review
There were many anime and manga & themed stores inside, including the Fukuika Gundam Base (accessed from outside but seemed to be in the same building), also live performance of group singers and water fountain show. A perfect escape in rainy days.

Kushida Shrine, located in Fukuoka city, is a significant urban site that holds the annual Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival. The shrine is deeply cherished by locals and is known for blessing longevity and business prosperity. It features a distinctive architectural style and houses a crane bronze sculpture as well as a spiritual spring believed to prolong life when consumed.
Old and popular shrine around this area. Even for me, this was the first visit. The land is not big, but traditional gate, main shrine, etc, all buildings are well maintained and felt my spirit was cleared during the stay and pray here.. *For lucky charm area, photo shoot is not allowed, so please be careful the warnings. I'm pretty sure this visit won't disappoint you :) #tourist spot #shrine #tradition culture
H K — Google review
This place feels like an isle of calm inside a bustling city, it amazes me how quiet it was in here! It feels like being taken back 300 years in time, the buildings were incredible and everyone I saw bowed to the shrines and was very respectful, contributing to the atmosphere. There were many small temples and even a pond with koi fish in it. So far my favourite place in all of Fukuoka!
Tobias — Google review
Let’s go visit some temples while in Fukuoka. This is just one of many and all that I visited were beautiful. I’m absolutely positive that I missed a bunch but at some point it gets overwhelming or just starts looking the same. Not being disrespectful but it’s a lot.
Hash M — Google review
A must-visit spot in Fukuoka! Kushida Shrine is rich in history and culture, with a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful architecture. The decorative Yamakasa floats are stunning—even outside of festival season. Easy to access from Hakata Station, and perfect for a quick spiritual stop or a deeper cultural experience. Highly recommended for anyone exploring Hakata!
Yummy L — Google review
Nestled conveniently in the heart of Hakata, the Kushida Shrine is an absolute gem and a must-visit for anyone exploring Fukuoka. As one of the city's oldest shrines, it offers a peaceful escape and a tangible connection to centuries of Japanese culture, all without costing a single yen. Stepping through the imposing wooden gate, you're immediately struck by the shrine's immaculate condition. The grounds are well-maintained and spotlessly clean, radiating an aura of respect and tranquility. Despite its central location near Gion Station (just a minute's walk from the metro), the atmosphere inside is remarkably peaceful and unhurried. Visiting on a weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to find it uncrowded, allowing for quiet contemplation and easy exploration. While the shrine complex isn't sprawling, its compact size feels intimate rather than limiting. The main hall and auxiliary buildings are beautiful examples of traditional Shinto architecture, featuring intricate woodwork, gleaming brass, and the distinctive thatched roof of the main hall. Every corner feels highly photogenic, from the majestic ancient gingko tree to the ornate lanterns and the vibrant sub-shrines dotting the grounds. Informative plaques provide fascinating insights, making it a great place to learn about the region's rich history and spiritual traditions.
Sorlo S — Google review
Kushida Shrine another free shrine and is one of Fukuoka’s larger and busiest shrines, bustling with visitors throughout the day. There’s plenty to see, from impressive architecture to traditional decorations, but be prepared for crowds that can make photography challenging. You can also buy fortune slips here—if your luck isn’t great, you can tie the slip to a designated tree to leave the bad fortune behind. A vibrant and lively spot that’s well worth a visit.

Kushida-jinja is a Shinto shrine located in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka, Japan. Dedicated to Amaterasu and Susanoo, it is said to have been founded in 757. The Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival is centred on the shrine.
William L — Google review
Entire busloads of Korean and Chinese tourists arrive full throttle in front of Kushida Shrine. They pour out in tight groups, and the shrine’s calm is shattered. Within minutes, this sacred place turns into a tourist crossroads, saturated with selfies and noise.

Kyushu National Museum is a modern museum with ever-changing exhibits and a futuristic mirrored design. Nestled in the serene eastern hills of Dazaifu, the building resembles a colossal space station and delves into the cultural connections between Asia and Kyushu. The museum's 4th floor hosts a permanent 'Cultural Exchange Exhibition' showcasing invaluable artifacts from across the continent, complemented by English signage and an audioguide for comprehensive understanding.
Underrated museum. In a country where they can be a bit hit and miss, the permanent collection was beautifully presented in a large atmospheric black hall, with excellent English language explanations, taking you from prehistoric up until 19th C history, focusing especially on the cultural and trade exchange between Japan and Asia. There are some absolute gems of statues, vases, scrolls and paintings among the collection. At the front desk, I was advised around 40 mins was enough to see the collection, but 1.5 hours was just enough to get to the end. If you chose one museum around Fukuoka, I'd make it this one for sure (the Fukuoka City museum feels dated and mundane in comparison).
Gergely S — Google review
One of the four national museums, but compared to the one in Tokyo, the one here in Dazaifu falls short in terms of exhibits and size. However, the architecture and the museum grounds were impressive and it's definitely worth a visit should you be in Dazaifu.
Jun M — Google review
The Museum is genuinely interesting and the exhibit was overall well explained. It takes you through a tour of Kyushu's history from the Yayoi period up to modern times. It's nice to see a good museum that wasn't built of stolen artefacts. Lots of pieces were donated by various countries, really wish that museums back in Europe would do the same and not just keep stolen things forever. It's worth the detour if you're in Dazaifu for sure!
Noah — Google review
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Kyushu National Museum. It's a truly modern and stunningly designed building. The exhibits are fantastic, offering deep dives primarily into the art and history of Japan, Korea, and China. Despite being on a tight schedule, I was so captivated that I ended up spending almost three hours exploring the collections.
Erik D — Google review
The museum is pretty huge! If you’re unable to climb the stairs, you’ll have to go from the opposite side and go up the rainbow stairway or rainbow bridge. It’s super big so expect to spend some hours at the museum.
Wesley — Google review
Great exhibits. They rotate exhibits upstairs and there is a tiered pricing structure. No pictures inside the exhibits.
Killian P — Google review
Beautiful museum! Was recommended to me by a lady in tourist information and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I paid extra for the special exhibition and it was worth it. Everything was written in japanese and english , easy to understand and all the staff were really helpful. They even offer free guided tour. I will definitely visit again. Don't forget the stamp!

I think this is a best place to go and learn ancient kyushu history and also mordernization of kyushu. The exhibits are meaningful and discription is clear. There is a free audio guide at the entrance. Understand the history of this place make your enjoy and appreciate more of what Kyushu can offer

Fukuoka Castle Ruins, also known as Maizuru Castle, is a 17th-century hilltop fortress located in Maizuru Park. Although it is no longer a functioning fortress, the site still boasts impressive remnants of its original walls and structures. Visitors can explore the colossal stone foundations, ancient turrets, towers, and gates that are scattered across the park grounds.
Amazing to glimpse into over 400 years of history! It was lovely to admire not just the beautiful architecture and construction, but the beautiful views from the high ground. There are quite a few parts of the ruins scattered across the site and I kind of regret not seeing more.
JATHL — Google review
If you’re in the area and enjoy walking and history, you’ll love this. I very much enjoyed this detour in our day. Added another few thousand steps to our day. It was very interesting and beautiful. Also- cherry blossoms if in season.
Jeff J — Google review
It is impressive, but not during the summer especially not in rainy season. There's not much to see but at least it is free. There are even black cats that walk around the ruins. The paved floor is very very slippery so be careful.
ItzMe — Google review
As only basically only the foundations are left it is good for a short walk and rest. You can overlook Fukuoka in all directions and it is a nice place to watch the sun set over the mountains. You can watch the lightshow in the Park below afterwards
Ben — Google review
It was nice and peaceful and quite beautiful seeing the sakura in the dim lighting. However, there were too many people and the line to enter the area of the castle when it's lighted is incredibly long, at least an hour of wait. But you can still see the lit castle while walking through the sakura trees below.
Ethan — Google review
Yes, it is ruins. Nothing but ruins. If the weather is friendly, you can enjoy hiking up the hills with old stones and trees.
Tyler — Google review
So just in case you were wondering - no, there is no actual castle here. Only the ruins remain of the castle. But it is a lovely walk! You can get a good view of the Fukuoka skyline and have some nice photos of the foliage with all the trees in the area. There’s a bit of parking at the foot of the ruins but it isn’t so big.
Ian C — Google review
It's called Fukuoka Castle "Ruins" for a reason. Don't expect to see a huge Castle here. Instead, you'll find the remnants of the castle and castle grounds. There are still some pretty impressive stonework here and an area where you can get a good view of the area (including nearby Ohori Park and Fukuoka Tower in the distance). Some of the stone pathways are pretty bumpy and the stones can get slippery when wet so be careful walking in those areas. Free to visit. Not too busy.

Beautiful and historic shrine — even more special with the temporary temple design Dazaifu Tenmangu is a must-visit spot for anyone traveling around Fukuoka. The approach to the shrine is lined with charming shops and snack stalls, creating a lively and traditional atmosphere. When I visited, the main temple seemed to be under construction, but the temporary shrine with trees growing on the roof was absolutely magical and unique — blending nature and spirituality in a beautiful way. There are plenty of local treats to enjoy along the way, especially the famous ume (plum) sweets and mochi. Just note that most food stalls close around 5 PM, so it’s best to arrive earlier if you want to enjoy the full experience. Overall, Dazaifu remains a peaceful, scenic, and culturally rich destination, even during renovations. Definitely worth a visit!

Worth the drive. It’s a cute bustling town right outside with a cute retro train, Ramen shops and tea cafes. Definitely need a half day in this area. The temple is beautiful. There alot tourist that visit. I went on a Saturday and I was still able to get food quick. I rented a kimono to walk around. Reservations is recommended as walks in on weekends seems impossible

Daizaifu Tenmangu Shrine is just a short bus ride from Hakata, making it an easy day trip. It can get quite crowded, but the atmosphere is nice and the shrine itself is beautiful. There’s not much to do afterward unless you’re really into sightseeing, though there is a museum right beside it that’s worth checking out if you have extra time.
Rafael M — Google review
This Shrine and temple is a bit further out from the ones in the main city but well worth the trip. It was very busy when I arrived but it don’t feel overwhelming with the crowds. The path leading up to it had many shops and places to grab some food. The bridges to the temple are a real wow and then you enter the temple which is stunning. Inside the grounds there are more little shops for souvenirs. Toilet facilities available.

There were quite a lot of people, but it didn’t feel crowded. The Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine area is shaded with trees and has a pleasant atmosphere — great for taking photos. There are also many shops along the way to the Shrine where you can stroll around and enjoy browsing. Don’t forget to try the red bean cake — there are many stalls to choose from!
Yada O — Google review
If you are in Fukuoka, this should be in your list. In front of the shrine, there are many local shops and restaurants. The shrine here is well known for students who would like to make their wish for their studying at least to make them having more confidence. As for tourists, yes good place to visit and observe their culture. Many nice restaurants worth trying too.
Khoong Y — Google review
Arriving at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine around 7:30 AM, I was immediately struck by its beauty and tranquil atmosphere. The thick, massive trunks testify to the great age of the trees. The grounds were particularly peaceful, and it was lovely to see many school children visiting to pray for academic success. However, the serene environment changed significantly; by the time I departed around 11:30 AM, the compound and the road leading to the temple had become quite crowded.

Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a vast leisure space located in Fukuoka, Japan. It spans six kilometers and covers 300 hectares, making it one of the country's national parks. This family-friendly park offers a wide range of attractions, including flower gardens and hills that showcase beautiful blooms throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy playgrounds, an amusement park with various rides, a water park for cooling off during hot summer days, and an animal forest.
450yen per entry, 1400 for the two seated bicycle rental. The zoo was interesting but the flower hill and the flower museum was really beautiful! The seaside view was okay. We only explored for 3 hours due to tight schedule and elderly parents were already tired, so there were more places we did not check out. I think one might be able to spend the whole day to explore this whole park.
PenPen P — Google review
The Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a sprawling, family-friendly destination perfect for outdoor recreation and relaxation. A major highlight is the extensive network of paths ideal for exploring. Families especially enjoy renting tandem bicycles, making it easy and fun to cover the vast, picturesque grounds together. Visiting in early April offers a stunning bonus: the park transforms into a Sakura (cherry blossom) wonderland. Cycling or strolling beneath blooming cherry trees is a quintessential Japanese spring experience. Beyond cycling, the park caters to children with dedicated play areas, including a popular kids' jumping zone where they can burn off energy. With its beautiful coastal and garden scenery, open spaces, and relaxed atmosphere, the park offers a perfect place for adults to unwind while kids play.
Sorlo S — Google review
Beautiful large park. Disc golf course, zoo, and multiple kids play areas on site. Huge area so best traversed with one of the rental bicycles. I went on a very quiet day but I presume it gets very busy during holidays. Lovely for an outdoor day out. Can access via the ferry from the city or the train.

A fantastic park for families. Wide open spaces to run and so many things for kids to do! The playgrounds are wonderful, and you can easily spend the whole day here. More than well worth the entrance fee!

Really big park. I suggest to spend a whole day to explore. The staff were very friendly and accommodating when we rented a tandem bike. Will visit again when given the chance. There are food trucks inside if you get hungry with the long walks!
Eli P — Google review
Beautiful park. Lots to see and do. The fields are green and wide. Lots of trees and wildlife. There was a zoo that we did not expect with lots of beautiful well taken care of animals. Very interactive and you can be inside with the kangaroos and they are safe to have your children around. Monkeys and macaws. They have a beautiful botanical garden and you can take lots of photos
Daniel J — Google review
Amazing value. For only 450¥, you get access to a massive park with multiple large playgrounds, tons of open space, huge flower gardens and displays, a scenic ocean view and beach walk, and it also has an interactive zoo where you can pet capybaras, kangaroos, bunnies, poneys, sheep, and donkeys!
Murphy — Google review
Great experience. I deeply enjoyed the rose garden and flower museum despite coming in autumn when I expected there to be no flowers - plot twist: there WERE flowers!!! Tons!!! I also saw tons of butterflies. I only got pictures of a few, but saw the world's smallest (pygmy blue), several swallowtails (yellow tiger, long tail spangle, graphium sarpedon) two color morphs of the yellow grassland butterfly, and more. The zoo portion was really cool. People are restricted to the paths, but the animals can roam freely. Getting followed around by baby capybaras was so fun! The monkey areas were filled with cool enrichment stuff, and, again, the monkeys could leave at any time. All creatures showed a high quality of life and good health. We rented bikes (there are multiple rental stations and you can return the bikes to any location) and rode all over the park. We stopped by the antique car museum and I got the cutest little plush bear as a souvenir. The cars all have vanity plates with their names in katakana. I thought that was a really cool touch. It's a small museum but well worth the 300yen to get in.

Marine World is a city aquarium located in Fukuoka City, Kyushu, featuring diverse marine life and entertaining dolphin and sea lion shows. Situated within the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, this attraction showcases 30,000 animals from 450 species, offering an educational experience on the warm Tsushima Current. Visitors can explore the world-class Large Panoramic Water Tank housing over 150 examples of sharks and rays from various species.
Marine World is easily one of the best attractions in Fukuoka. I really enjoyed the sardine show, it was amazing to see thousands of fish moving together in perfect harmony. The dolphin show was just as fun, full of energy and excitement that kept everyone smiling. There are so many sea creatures to see, from colorful fish to impressive sharks, and everything is presented in a way that’s both interesting and educational. I also liked that they have a nice restaurant where you can relax and enjoy a good meal after exploring. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Fukuoka.

I had a great time with the kids after a long time. It was great to be able to see the dolphin show in Japan that I saw when I was little. There were a variety of shows, so there was a lot to see. But the food wasn't cheap. Still, it was nice to remember my childhood after such a long time. When returning, I recommend checking the train schedule before going. I waited too long because I didn't check the time.
Eunseok K — Google review
Route instruction can still be clearer. We almost missed the penguin and dolphin training part. Nice experience to see dolphins and penguin closely. Animal show schedule not exactly same as what is shown on the website. Refer to the TV in the aquarium for more accurate info. We didn't try the food in the restaurant, bought from an uncle at the main hall instead, food taste ok. Re-entry is possible, remember to stamp the UV stamp on your hand in order to re-enter.

A cozy aquarium with a variety of sea animals. We drove there and parking was not a problem. The show was the highlight for our visit! It was amazing for the kids to see. They had a special show where the diver fed the fishes in the big tank! Both are great!

Just brilliant! Must see in Fukuoka! A lot of information about the life under the Sea. Huge space, magnificent location and view. Drinks and food also available. And the most important thing: the animals! Just amazing! Thank you!

Hakata Station, the largest station on Kyushu Island, serves as a crucial transportation hub connecting the shinkansen from Honshu with the rest of Kyushu and is conveniently located near Fukuoka Airport. The station offers a variety of dining options, including quick in-and-out style restaurants for busy travelers and upscale sit-down restaurants on its 9th and 10th floors.
An amazing modernly designed station with has a good selection of shops, restaurants and department stores all in one convenient location. You could get lost for hours exploring and discovering new things to see, enjoy and buy. The Christmas market at night was amazing with incredible illumination, performances, fun food and amazing atmosphere with people having a great time. Overall I recommend exploring Hakata Station beyond using the trains as it offers so much in terms of shopping, food and fun activities like the Christmas market.

Based on a last visit in July 2025 Fukuoka's version of Shinjuku, Kyoto, or Nanba stations and by far the alpha station the entire metro area. In fact, at a glance the exterior is very similar to that of Kyoto station, particularly the tall facade of the west entrance. Super well integrated with retails, you can find anything in it. One of the metro lines runs to the airport, which is unusually close to the downtown, making it a convenient hub and starting point to explore the area.
Lontongstroong — Google review
I took the Shinkansen straight from Kyoto and arrived at Hakata Station which is the main gateway to Fukuoka and Kyushu. The layout here is surprisingly easy to read for such a major hub, with clear signs in multiple languages and a smooth connection process. What makes it even more convenient is that the station is directly linked to several metro lines, so within minutes I was already on my way to the Ritz-Carlton Fukuoka. It’s one of those stations that feels big but never overwhelming, striking the right balance between functionality and comfort.

Hakata Station (博多駅) is the largest and busiest railway terminal in Kyushu, located in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City. Serving as a major transportation hub, it connects travelers to various destinations across Japan via the San’yō and Kyushu Shinkansen lines, as well as local and regional train services .
Arif A — Google review
The Shinkansen emerges from the west like breath from the sea. Hakata Station hums with laughter, food stalls, and the perfume of ramen broth drifting through the air. Businessmen, families, and travelers share benches, their suitcases reflecting lantern light. Here begins the soft warmth of Kyūshū — a journey not of speed but of rediscovery. Tourist Tip: Final stop for San’yō Line. Transfer to Kyūshū Shinkansen and Fukuoka Metro. Visit Canal City, Tenjin, Kushida Shrine, and Nakasu Yatai for night food stalls. Try Hakata ramen with thin noodles and rich broth. Major gateway between Honshu and Kyūshū. Transfer to Fukuoka Metro, local JR lines, or airport buses.

Nice station, easy to find locker to save your luggage
Aniendhita A — Google review
The station serves as the main transportation hub in FUK. The 2 major metro lines run past this station, hence it’s easy to get around the city. It’s also the base for trains and shinkansens to move around Kyushu and beyond. Despite its size-large, it’s easy to navigate around as its good layout with proper signages makes life easy. I must say most 🇯🇵 major transit hubs are superbly planned, 👍🏻 if you tire of the station, just move out to linked shopping hubs around it. There are plenty of choices. You can practically spend a whole day in the station and its nearby vicinity. Plenty of places to eat and drink.

Stayed Hakata from Dec. 27-Jan.6 & pretty much in & out here plus dined few times in the basement food court. The lighting in front of the station is amazing & glorious. There are many department stores surrounding it. It’s indeed, a modern multifunctional station. Love it very much.

Momochi Seaside Park is a popular manmade beach in Fukuoka, Japan, featuring a long stretch of sand perfect for activities like volleyball. The area is home to several famous landmarks such as the Fukuoka Tower and the Fukuoka City Museum. It's conveniently located just 15-20 minutes from downtown via bus or subway, making it an ideal place to take a break or enjoy a relaxing stroll.
Very, very nice park and beach. Dunno what it's like when it's open for swimming, but otherwise it's a perfect place to take a stroll, relax or play on the sand, or just take in the scenery. There are also a few food stalls/restaurants close to that wedding mansion, so you won't starve for refreshments there

William L — Google review
A good choice for leisure in Fukuoka Hakata area. The beach is okay, sand is good. But when we went, there was a foul smell in the sea breeze similar to a rotting crab (probably an isolated case). Locals are freely swimming in the area, and some groups bring their own food to celebrate. There is no entrance fee. There are lots of restrooms, and restaurants are in an area accessible by the beach. It's just a few-minute walk from bus stations, and nearby the Fukuoka Tower. Best place to watch sunset as it is located in the western part of Kyushu island.

Momochi Seaside Park holds a special place in my memories from four years ago, a serene escape nestled along the coast that offered more than just picturesque views. The park was home to a delightful cafe where the food was always satisfying, and they served an unforgettable macadamia chocolate coffee alongside refreshing cocktails, making every visit a culinary adventure. The beach itself was impeccably clean, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy the soft sand and soothing sounds of the waves. The air was particularly fresh, complemented by a cool, gentle breeze that made even sunny days feel pleasant. This made the seaside an ideal spot for both relaxation and engaging activities. Additionally, Momochi Seaside Park featured recreational areas that were perfect for unwinding and shedding the stress of daily life. There was also a well-maintained dog park, a joyful place for pet owners to play and bond with their dogs. This combination of natural beauty, tasty treats, and varied amenities made my visits to the park truly memorable, embodying the essence of a perfect day out by the sea.

Tochoji Temple, located in the heart of Hakata, Fukuoka, is a historic Heian-era temple renowned for its impressive wooden Buddha statue and ancient carvings. The temple also houses the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, offering insights into daily life during the Meiji and Taisho periods. Nearby attractions include the five-story pagoda at Tochoji and Kushida Shrine, where the famous Hakata Gion Yamakasa Matsuri festival begins each year.
The temple has a beautiful pagoda and a big Buddha statue on the second floor of another building. The statue was very detailed and amazing to see. There’s an entrance or offering fee of ¥100 per person to view the Buddha, and taking photos inside is not allowed. I got a goshuin there. They have pre-made stamps available for ¥500. Visited in late September 2025.

The giant wooden Buddha statue and 5-story pagoda made with wood only were artistically and spiritually awe-inspiring. When I visited around 9 am, it was solomn and quiet, with a few small groups of tourists, just how a proper temple should be. The goshuin was hand-written by an elder monk and came with a beautiful postcard. Love the whole experience.
Sylvia C — Google review
Its worth the visit. The experience was amazing and the big wooden Buddha was amazing to see and walk around it to see other paintings and hear the history of it. At one point it was pitch black and no light allowed to find your way out from under the big Buddha. Its well worth 100 yen. No photos allowed inside, its a very spiritual experience.

Tochoji Temple is a free and small but culturally rich site in Fukuoka, often busy with visitors. It features a striking red, tiered pagoda that’s beautiful for photos and adds to the temple’s historic charm. The main highlight, however, is the massive seated Buddha hidden inside—one of the largest wooden Buddhas in Japan—which you can view for just 100 JPY. Despite its size, the temple grounds are compact, making it a quick but worthwhile stop if you’re in the area.
Karen G — Google review
A hidden gem in the heart of Hakata! Tochoji Temple is a tranquil oasis just steps from the busy city streets. The massive wooden Buddha statue is breathtaking—standing over 10 meters tall, it’s one of the largest seated Buddha statues in Japan. Don’t miss the “hell and paradise” corridor beneath the statue—it’s a unique and thought-provoking experience. The temple grounds also feature a beautiful five-story pagoda and historic architecture. Easy to reach from Gion Station. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Japanese culture and spirituality!

Located in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Japan, the Fukuoka Art Museum is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. The museum houses a diverse collection of art from various regions of Asia and beyond. Visitors can explore prehistoric sculptures, contemporary paintings by renowned modernist artists, historic Japanese sculptures and antiquities, pre-modern Korean arts and crafts, important western artworks and prints, ancient Persian glassware, Chinese, Korean and Japanese paintings as well as valuable Buddhist artifacts.
Very nice museum, cheap entry tickets with reductions for students, and a permanent exhibition with works from artists such as Dalí, Matisse, Warhol, Chagall as well as many other japanese artists. There’s a good mix or modern and older artworks, and also other exhibitions (when I visited there was a Hello Kitty one, and also a music themed one). The park the museum is in is also beautiful, definitely worth a visit!

Do not visit here during early September, there is nothing worth seeing here. All of the indoor activities were closed. The zoo had barely any animals. The heat was unbearable to do any outdoor activities. Barely any flowers were in full bloom. The famous field was barren.
Francis T — Google review
Totally worth visiting! The ferry ride over was about 560 ¥ round trip. The bus ride was also about 560 ¥ round trip. Access fee is 1500 ¥. It was so beautiful and the flowers are so kawaii. The view of the ocean was nice. There are rabbits and goats on the island. You can pet the goats and feed the rabbits. They’re also super adorable and cute. 100% recommend you visit. :)

Very pretty and big park for someone who likes to take picture of flower . Take bus from the terminal with 260 yen per person . Pay in transport card or cash . Entrance fee is 1500 yen .

It was a peaceful and relaxing visit. Bought tickets from vending machine using credit card. Roundtrip for one adult is ¥460. After arriving at the island, we took a bus to the flower park. Bus timings shown in picture at the end. Quite a big place to explore and there are eateries to have tea and lunch. There are playgrounds and swings around for kids and adults as well. Visited on 24 June 2024. Hydrangeas and marigold in bloom.

The Kawabata Shopping Arcade, located in the historic Hakata Old Town area of Fukuoka, is a covered shopping street with over 130 years of history. Stretching for 400 meters and home to more than 130 businesses, it offers a wide range of traditional handicrafts, souvenirs, clothing, and dining options. The arcade comprises two sections: Kawabata Chuo Shopping Arcade and Kami-Kawabata Shopping Arcade.
Mode Salon, my girlfriend's "go to" place for casual inexpensive tops. I always enjoyed shopping arcades, finding interesting local shops. Canal City is conveniently accessible at one end of Kawabata Shopping Arcade. On the second day, we had a body and feet massage. Very reasonable rates. Looking forward to coming back for more. There are several massage parlors to choose. Found this ramen place that serves gyoza, fried rice and fried chicken. Definitely one of the better places to eat! Firm noodles, shorter noodles to slurp, tasty broth and melt in your mouth roast pork. Fried rice comes on a hot sizzling plate. Gyoza with 3 sauces. Condiments available.

Hakata’s oldest shopping street has about 130 shops lining a 400-meter long arcade. This Hakata shopping area features gift shops selling traditional Hakata ningyo dolls and other items, shops specialized in Yamakasa goods, stores that offer products from the Genkai-nada sea, and ramen shops.
T T — Google review
This is a rather quaint, slightly archaic arcade with a beautiful entrance roof arch. The arcade itself is built along two straight avenues, much like a cross, and has a wide variety of shops including tailors, a Daiso and traditional folkware and items. It is said to be the oldest shopping street in the area. Worth a visit if you are in the neigbourhood and it is only 20 minutes' walk from Canal City.

not many interesting stores, only 1 pharmacy, the majority were spiritual stores. can be done in less than an hour.
C — Google review
Unlike some famous shopping streets in Tokyo or Osaka that are dominated by shops oriented towards tourists, this place houses many local businesses that give visitors an authentic and local experience. While it is full of shops, I am a bit disappointed that many of them close quite early. More than half were already closed when I was there at around 7:30pm.

Kawabata Shopping Arcade is a traditional covered shopping street located near Canal City Hakata. It offers a mix of old-school charm and local flavor, with a variety of small shops, local eateries, and souvenir stores. While not particularly flashy, it's a good place to explore everyday Japanese shopping culture and pick up unique local snacks or gifts. It's quiet compared to the larger malls, making it a pleasant stroll if you're in the area—but not a must-visit unless you're nearby.
Karen G — Google review
Considering that Fukuoka is a big city, it’s shopping. Arcade is quite small and narrow, as compared to the other bigger cities.
RC — Google review
Small-ish type of stores similar to the usual Chinatown setups in big cities, but instead of Chinese items the stores feature Japanese goods that are Made In Japan! No pirated items at all, everything is original, branded items. They look cheap but the prices are expensive! There are several massage stores and beauty parlors as well. You can skip visiting this place, you won’t miss any.

Located in the heart of Fukuoka, the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum is a vibrant cultural center dedicated to showcasing a diverse range of contemporary and historic artworks from various Asian countries. Established in 1999, the museum occupies the former Fukuoka Branch of the Bank of Japan and features an impressive collection of over 1,000 works including paintings, sculptures, and prints. It also serves as an educational arts center.
I am a little confused about some of the other reviews referencing 1,000 or 2,000 yen for entrance... Maybe something has changed. The entrance is very cheap. It is only 200 yen. I happily would have paid more than that! And I felt that the exhibition was wonderful. I really enjoyed my time here. It has art from all over Asia, there's not really art from Japan, with the focus modern art, a lot of which reflects political events of the past 20 years. I thought it was really interesting, especially the uterus man piece which I loved. Also, the cafe is completely adorable, and the giant food pillows you can play in are just as fun for adults as they are for kids! All the art is signed in both English and Japanese.
Alana — Google review
A hidden gem in Fukuoka. The handout that explains each major art is excellent and helps me understand and appreciate the art more. I come from New York which is home to some of the most famous museums which just collect items but nothing like a handout that explains the art. This museum is awesome! I also went on a Friday and there was a free puppet show! I read that there’s an event every Friday night. This was the cherry on top.
Mauricio P — Google review
I enjoyed this little Asian art museum. It’s just a few floors above one of the main subway lines. So super easy to get to. The focus is on contemporary Asian art, and it has samples from Japan, Korea, Singapore, etc. they also have regular shows. And there is a coffee shop in the space as well.

I always stop by this museum whenever I go to Fukuoka. The permanent exhibition features a good selection of Asian artists. I was in luck as the special exhibition at this time featured Tezuka Osamu’s Blackjack. Conveniently located in Riverrain Mall above Nakasu Kawabata subway station.

It was a good experience for just cheap entrance fee for this exhibition they also have exclusive art exhibition that cost a little bit pricey but if you love art that much you may try. It is worth to try.
Julina M — Google review
Again like any other museum in Japan very little content, we arrived during an exhibition of modern artist so the rooms with more traditional japanese art we wanted to see for already 2 weeks were just closed. Very deceiving when you come from far away to see a country heritage and end up with nothing but modern art exhibitions that are all over the earth right now. It's a great shame to see an authentic art museum closing national art exhibitions just to get more money (permanent exhibition 500 yen and the limited exhibition 2200, pretty simple to do the math and see why they closed it). Total desapointment, be careful and read the Web pages before, even tho there was no information about the permanent exhibition been closed until we were presented a sticker at the ticket office that showed the permanent exhibition closed.

Miyajidake Shrine is a stunning Shinto shrine that boasts seasonal blooms such as cherry trees and azaleas. One of its main attractions is the Path of Light, which has been featured in a Japanese commercial. This path offers a breathtaking view of the sunset extending from the shrine's approach, especially during winter and spring. Visitors can also enjoy beautiful scenery along the approach during daytime, weather permitting.
I really enjoyed this shrine. The complex was huge and even with tons of people it felt spacious. There is a hiking trail that's about 2km but along the trail there is another deity at the top of the mountain about 600m in. It was about 25 to 30 mins from the main trail in the shrine but lots of incline. Would go only if it hasn't rained for a few days but definitely worth the mental refresh once you've reach the top. Also straight shot to the ocean from the shrine. Around 20 min walk.

Beautiful shrine, bit hard to get to, 30 minutes walk from a train station if you don't take the bus. Visited 13th April and saw loads of cherry blossom trees.

Worth the ride to see this beautiful place! Easy commute only 30+ mins to get to Fukuma from Hakata, and a quick mini bus (no.2 the blue line) ride. I walked back to the train station along the main road it only took 30-35 mins.

It is a spectacular shrine, and it is well decorated during this special summer event time. There are many nice shrines also around the main shrine for exploration, we can take photos freely and there is no entrance free. This is definitely a top shrine to be visited!
Skyy S — Google review
I was able to visit the shrine during its festival and received a commemorative goshuin. I also got to see the procession, and there were several snack booths as well. The shrine has many stairs, but it’s definitely worth the climb and offer intentions. We took the JR train from Hakata to Fukuma Station, then a bus that stops directly at Miyajidake Shrine. Visited in late September 2025.

Nakasu Yatai Yokocho, also known as Food Stalls Street, is a vibrant and essential part of Fukuoka's food culture. The street is renowned for its iconic dishes such as Hakata ramen and delectable gyoza. To navigate the overwhelming choices, joining a local food tour can unveil hidden culinary gems in this lively district.
It's an interesting place in Fukuoka prefecture. All food was brilliant and there were many friendly stuffs working here. It was my first experience to have grilled pork legs. I knew boiled one but they grilled them after boiled and they were actually yummy 😋. I want to try these food again‼️🐷 I should add this. Better be there before they open their shop. There must be long line before taking seats.
ベネッセ S — Google review
We visited a food stall in Nakasu to experience the famous yatai dining. The atmosphere was lively, but we felt a bit rushed to sit down, place our order, and finish eating. I also didn’t realize that the food would be on the pricier side compared to what I expected from a street stall. Still, it was worth trying at least once for the experience.
Charm C — Google review
I understand this is a bit touristy for some people but we actually had some great foods, not too expensive and it is a very 'kawaii' place by the water. Definitely a recommendation! It might get busy and is a bit packed. We did see some stalls that were wildly more expensive, so just keep an eye out for that.
Josefien T — Google review
Got there in early so we didn't have to wait in massive lines. Most stalls sell similar items but it was a great experience. People were really friendly.
J F — Google review
Bustling and sense of traditional stalls, super busy during the weekends. Roughly 10 stalls with ramens, grilled and beers. Very good vibes and nice place to catch up with friends 3 stars because feel like a tourist trap, with full languages menu and a bit pricey
William L — Google review
We wanted to experience the food truck scene in Fukuoka. We tried takoyaki, yakitori, cheesy fries, buttered scallops and crabs, along with some drinks from different food trucks. Food were a bit too salty for my taste, so I suggest trying just 1-2 dishes. The flavor was also less than what I expected. Like other reviewers mentioned, it’s a bit pricey for what you get. Visited late September 2025.
LA F — Google review
A really good experience, and a must go to if in Fukuoka, be prepared though it gets really busy and it can be quite cramped but that's just part of the experience! I forgot the name of the stall we visited but its usually the first stall set up when entering the canal food stall street, great Ramen , good beer and great conversation! I highly recommend checking this area out!
Matt L — Google review
If you are looking for delicious and tasty food, you probably want to give yaktai or these Fukuoka street food a miss. Lined along the river, these food stalls popped up in the night for dinner. Because of the novelty and a natural ambience by the river, many queued up for up to 30mins or so. And when you do get a seat, you have to order a full meal with drinks, no less. They want every seat to be fully capitalized. The stall we went had no customer engagement at all. They just wanted to fill their seats and maximized their sales. They were also not exactly friendly. We ordered their Oden, ramen and mentaiko. They were very average and the Ramen was even quite below par. But nonetheless, it is what it is and just have to enjoy the ambience and get the vibes. I don't think I need to eat at these yaktai again unless absolutely necessary. 🤔 One thing for sure, it's definitely not worth the 30mins wait in 9°C!

First time attending a concert, decided it would be TWICE in Japan, only to be a bit disappointed you can't record it. Nevertheless the Mizuho PayPay Dome is spacey with options getting from either Bus or Train (with 15 minutes walk). The place did not disappoint. Food shops nearby are reasonably price as well.

I've never watched a baseball game before but finally my 11yo is showing some interest so my family including 9yo booked to go! We went straight after school and while still light headed in to grab some food and find out seats. Its basically everything we've seen on YouTube- a beautiful stadium - clean, great viewing angles, fun cheering and beer and ice cream girls floating around. My kids loved it and the game was hugely exciting between SH and Hokkaido Fighters. We loved how easy it was to access toilets and food areas and everyone nearby was very well behaved and into the excitement. We'll definitely come back again.

I have been a fan of the Hawks for several years and have seen them several times in the Dome. It's an experience every time. The Dome is very well organised and tp structured. The rows are shorter than in other stadiums, which is good if you have a seat in the centre, then not so many people have to stand up to let you through. Go Hawks!

Sumiyoshi Jinja is a historic Shinto shrine located in a serene park, surrounded by lush Japanese cedar and camphor trees. As one of the oldest shrines in Kyushu, it holds great significance as a place dedicated to protecting seafarers. The main hall, rebuilt in 1623, is recognized as a National Treasure and houses ancient artifacts like copper axes and swords.
This shrine offers a spacious, peaceful retreat under a towering sacred tree, right in the middle of the city. Surrounded by modern buildings, it’s not hidden, yet it holds a deep sense of sanctity. Ceremonies are held here, and many people come to pray, adding to its spiritual atmosphere. I also took a walk to the nearby river, which has a fascinating historical story. The shrine is not only beautiful but also easy to find—a perfect spot for a quiet moment amid the urban landscape.

Sumiyoshi Shrine, located just a short walk from Hakata Station, is a peaceful and compact shrine with serene grounds that offer a welcome break from the city. While small, it holds cultural significance as one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Fukuoka, dedicated to the protection of sailors. Entry is free, and when we visited on a weekday afternoon, it was pleasantly quiet with few other visitors—ideal for a calm, reflective stop.

I only chose this shrine during a very short visit in Fukuoka. I find this place very calm and peaceful. No busy tourist vibes. Perhaps, I came here 30 minutes before the shrine closed. I will come back again with my spouse 😍

This place is really nice when the trees are all full, especially when the cherry blossoms bloom. Would recommend going here for cherry blossoms! Note though that during cherry blossom season, you can't go to the top of fukuoka castle ruins to see the view as they have lights in the shape of a castle there. So come back for the view next time if you're going here during the cherry blossoms.

The island is so peaceful. We rented bike for 1000yen near the port. Had a hard time riding a bike uphill since I get tired easily and it’s a hot summer day. But riding a bike downhill is an amazing experience, best decision than riding a bus. We get to roam around the island on our own time. Beautiful place but no cherry blossom yet. We went on 20 March 2022. Only rapseed flower available now. The ticket price is 1200 yen, little bit expensive I think. Ferry fare is 230 yen and the bus fare from ferry terminal to nokonoshima park is 240 yen. You can check the detailed time tables on their website. Also check the flower status properly before you go there. The park looks so dull without the flowers.

Acros Fukuoka is a 14-floor municipal government building in the heart of Fukuoka's financial district. It houses public-facing entities and revenue-producing businesses, as well as a cultural center and office space. The building features a full-height atrium with natural light shining through a vertically sliced glass cylinder.
Acros Fukuoka Building, a Japanese eco-friendly building, is a multi-cultural center. The meaning of Acros is a coined word meaning Asian Cross-Road of Over the Sead, symbolizing Fukuoka as a gateway to Asia. Designed by E milio Ambasz & Associates and built in 1995, the building has 14 floors above ground, 4 floors underground, and is 60m high. This building has a terraced structure that creates a natural green park and garden. As can be seen from the exterior and surrounding environment of Acros Fukuoka Building, this building can be said to be an eco-friendly building that includes natural green. The interior space consists of an international conference hall, Fukuoka Prefecture Passport Center, an information center for tourism products and international exchange, a cultural center, restaurants, a shopping mall, a symphony hall, an atrium, etc.

In terms of Architecture, This is the great sustainable design. This roof serve the tree instead of old park at this site, and they still have good maintenance the environment.

ACROS Fukuoka is an architectural marvel and a must-visit in Fukuoka City. Its unique stepped green terraces blend seamlessly with the surrounding urban landscape, offering a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling city center. The interior spaces are modern and well-maintained, perfect for exhibitions, conferences, and cultural events. The rooftop garden provides stunning panoramic views of the city skyline and is a great spot for relaxation. Whether you're a tourist exploring Fukuoka or a local looking for a serene escape, ACROS Fukuoka promises a memorable experience. Highly recommended! but note its not a tourist attraction

The building in the Step Garden adjacent to Tenjin Central Park is Across Fukuoka. This place, which can be called an urban oasis, is a hub for international, cultural, and information exchange. Expanded from 2 underground floors to 13 above-ground floors, it is equipped with various functions such as a symphony hall, event hall, international conference hall, prefectural passport center, offices, restaurants, and shops.
Platinum G — Google review
My review only focuses on the outside area of the building. The beauty of this building is that they made one of the side like a hiking path with lots of trees and cute animal lighting. If you follow the path, you will reach the top of the building on 14 floor. From there, you can have a good view of the Fukuoka city. Please note that they only open the top floor on Sat, Sun and public holidays.
Javin Y — Google review
Beautiful architecture! Reminds me of The Forum in Tokyo, but a little smaller. The trees and plants growing on the outside of the building give it a unique look. There's history to the restaurants here, Chappo on the ground floor has been here since the 1960's. Inside you'll find little stores and restaurants. As you keep going up the elevator floors you'll notice there are a bunch of offices, all different and all very modern in feel. They have a cultural gallery with a coffee lounge. And you can find a Nursing Room here too, just head towards the Seminar Room and go up the stairs. Great place to explore and take shelter from the summer heat or if it's raining. I was surprised to see a YAMAHA store and a Georgio Armani shop. If you're craving ice cream, go down to the basement level and you'll find a treat.
Jenae L — Google review
This is one of the coolest building I've ever seen. There is lots of things to see here. The inside as well as outside of the building is beautiful. This building is connected with tenjin metro station. There is shopping malls, restaurants, and theater. There is section where there is meeting rooms and lots of office of several companies.

teamLab Forest Fukuoka is a cutting-edge digital art museum located in the heart of Fukuoka City. Created by the renowned Japan-based art collective, teamLab, this immersive attraction showcases the fusion of art, science, technology, and nature. Divided into two main sections - Catch and Collect Forest and Forest of Motion - visitors can explore captivating digital exhibits that offer a unique sensory experience.
Absolutely love Team Labs! Had a great time collecting all the animals!! The app was a little wonky and I restarted my phone and had no issues. Downfall: when you draw your design stay in the exact lines. They don't scan the whole square. When we did the flowers some was cut off since we were out of the lines. Our towel wasn't the exact design and instead a design of their layout. I loved the rooms and had fun I the air ball room! It was 7800¥ for 2 adults including buying 2 towels.

**TeamLab Forest Fukuoka – A Compact, Interactive Adventure Ideal for Families** You'll find this digital art museum on the 5th floor of the BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA mall, right next to the MIZUHO PayPay Dome . It's a more intimate experience compared to the larger TeamLab museums in Tokyo and Osaka, built around two engaging sections . The **Catching and Collecting Forest** turns you into an explorer. Using a smartphone app, you can find, catch, and study digital animals that move across the walls and floors, learning about them as you build your own digital collection . The **Athletics Forest** is a physical playground designed to challenge your body and spatial awareness, with features like bouncing spheres and terrain that encourages climbing and sliding . For a smooth visit, wear sneakers, as high heels, sandals, or wooden clogs will prevent you from experiencing the athletic areas . Plan for a stay of about 1.5 to 2 hours, though you might stay longer if you get engrossed in catching creatures . Getting there via public transport involves a 15-minute walk from the Tojimachi Station (also known as唐人町站), which can feel a bit remote from the main city hubs like Hakata and Tenjin . **Verdict:** A fantastic and interactive first dive into TeamLab's world, especially for families. If you've already visited the bigger locations, you can skip it unless you're in the area.
Calvin W — Google review
Loved it! It wasn’t too busy either. We booked our tickets via Klook. The forest room, the app to catch the animals was a bit laggy but overall a great experience. We loved every room as they were all different and interactive. Recommend to go see this Team Lab if you’re in Fukuoka.
Thy N — Google review
Disappointing experience. The app doesn’t work properly on Android, though it runs better on iPhone. Be warned, it drains the battery in under an hour. Thankfully, staff know about the bugs and lent us old iPhones, but that doesn’t save the experience. You have to catch each animal three times to unlock a pointless text. Nothing fun about that. Some rooms are dangerous: unstable half-balloons, wobbly edges, real risk of falling. The drawing room is dull, your artwork scrolls lifelessly, nothing like TeamLab Borderless where it moves and interacts. No relaxation space, no tea room, nowhere to unwind. Even getting there is confusing and frustrating. I came to have fun, not to struggle. At Tokyo Borderless, I was amazed. In Fukuoka, I was bored. No fun, just frustration. Avoid it. 👎
Big D — Google review
Bought tickets fr Klook the day before visiting. Easy entry by scanning QR code. There are 4 sections. Download the Teamlab app at the entrance by scanning the QR code for capturing the lighted & moving digital animals on the walls. Next section was stepping on balls. Need to do some balancing here. The balls will change colour. Attendants will hold up instructions in various languages at each entrance to explain how to play. If you bring big bags, better to store them in lockers found on 1st and 3rd flr? Overall, nice experience to spend a few hours.
Susan C — Google review
Amazing digital art experience! The lights, sounds, and interactive exhibits are mesmerizing. Great for photos and fun to explore — best to book ahead and wear comfy shoes.
Uttapong R — Google review
Visiting teamLab Forest in Fukuoka was a surreal and unforgettable experience! Unlike any regular museum or art exhibit, this is a fully interactive digital world where you become part of the art. It’s designed to engage all your senses — everywhere you go, the walls, floor, and even the air seem alive with motion, color, and sound. The exhibit is split into two main zones: the Athletics Forest, which involves more physical movement (think climbing and balancing in glowing, futuristic spaces), and the Forest of Motion, which feels like walking through a living dream. One moment you’re surrounded by butterflies, the next you’re floating through galaxies or watching animals you’ve created walk into the digital forest. Everything reacts to your movement, so it feels like the art is responding to you. It’s great for all ages — whether you’re looking for Instagram-worthy photos or just want to be amazed. I recommend wearing comfortable clothes and grip-friendly shoes since some areas involve light climbing or uneven floors. It’s not too long — around 1–2 hours — but totally worth it. Super close to the PayPay Dome and easy to get to. If you’re in Fukuoka, don’t miss this! It’s one of the most unique experiences in the city.
Nevaeh T — Google review
Haven't had so much fun in a long time. Very much up to the team labs standard with the added bonus of a catch game you can play on your phone that teaches you about nature and extinction at the same time as having lots of fun with digital exhibits. Very well done.

Tenjin Underground Mall, also known as Tenjin Chikagai, is a vast subterranean shopping center featuring over 150 stores along two 600-meter-long underground passages. This European-inspired mall offers a charming escape on rainy days with its alluring entrances adorned with stained-glass windows and hand-laid stone walkways. Conveniently connected to major stations and department stores in the Tenjin area, it's an ideal destination for souvenir shopping or seeking shelter from the weather.
Take your time walking through this Mall. So much to see and buy and eat and try! Get your bearings and take note of exits. Convenient and safe access to Malls and other streets. Much Appreciated When Temperature hits 0 degrees Celsius or lower. Clean Restrooms 🚻 / washrooms.

A great way to spend time looking around and a convenient way to get wherever you're going 😊👍

This underground mall is long stretching from Tenjin station (orange line) to Tenjin Minami station (green line). There are 2 major thoroughfare with shops lining both sides. So make sure you walk through both as there’s lots to see. Retail and fnb plentiful. There are many entry and exit points to surface in case you get phobia of being underground for so long 😉 there are also exits to various large shopping complexes like Daimaru etc. look out for a ladies restroom which is amazing and definitely not what u often see. It’s more like a powder room than a restroom with nice interior and decor. No such luck for men 😡 🤪

Very convenient underground mall with access to all the department stores nearby. You can quite literally spend an entire day here shopping, because it has all the shops you need. When visiting Fukuoka, make sure to experience the iconic Yatai food stalls. These wheeled stalls offer a unique opportunity to sample Fukuoka's street food and immerse yourself in the local culture. With only around seven or eight seats, you'll find yourself dining shoulder to shoulder with locals, creating an unforgettable cultural experience. The stalls are scattered throughout Fukuoka, but the ones in Nakasu are highly recommended.
Very traditional Japanese food stall. Good food and chill atmosphere
Ngoc T — Google review
There are a number of stalls lined up along the canal. They all serve similar foods, ranging from onden to yakitori and ramen. It’s fast paced eating in a crammed space. A unique experience but not necessarily the most enjoyable. Food is just alright for the price.
Daniel O — Google review
The Yatai experience was a bit overwhelming with so many stalls to choose from. We ended up picking one with a shorter line and quickly got seats. We ordered oden, grilled beef, and grilled mentaiko. We especially liked the grilled items—they were soft and tasty. We also had a glass of highball each. The atmosphere was fast-paced and quite cramped. Also it was quite expensive, total for this order was in It was $41sgd; more about the experience than enjoyment for us
Josephine C — Google review
The ambiance and food is good, but some stuffs like the drinks is kind of overpriced. Worth trying it for first time.
JMGAB — Google review
I think it is okay to try one of these food stalls if you are a tourist. Just once though. But the very good ones have super long lines and the so-so ones are tourist traps. Why tourist traps? While you wait (in the rain when we went) they take your order and after about 20 to 30 mins waiting (this one was one of the so-so ones) you get to sit down and the food arrives when we sit and they were all cold already. And you can only order once while you were standing on line. So you eat these cold items while you look for condiments that were all empty… bill comes when you about to leave and it is close to Yen 3000 for some yakitori sticks and a side dish of grilled asparagus and mushrooms. Skip these stalls unless you enjoy standing on a line and get cold food at the end. There are plenty of izakaya in Nakasu just a few feet away from these very expensive and inconvenient yatais.
Jung L — Google review
The place is always packed with people. It makes sense that the stalls want to accommodate as many people as possible. Hopefully, more space could be given to the stalls so that more people can enjoy the wonderful food.
Jude M — Google review
I had a fun time eating outside watching the sun go down but it definitely felt touristy. I think everyone should try it once when they go to Fukuoka but it's a little over priced for the food that you get.

The view here is beautiful, though there are long lines if you want to take photos. We visited as part of a day tour, which I think was the best choice since the location is quite far. Coming here on your own might be a bit challenging.
Exy — Google review
This spot is usually packed with visitors, making it tough to get a clear photo—whether of the scenery or yourself. I got “lucky” when a sudden downpour cleared the area. Everyone left, and I managed to capture a few shots amidst the heavy rain and strong wind.
YippeeKewl — Google review
A very quiet and scenic spot to be. The sea was beautiful, though it has just stopped raining when e arrived. There are 2 parking spots across the road, and the one with the gantry does have a toilet in case anyone is looking for one after a long drive. It was empty when we arrived at around 10am, but there were tourists started coming in by the time we left. So, I reckon it will be good to visit early.

Beautiful when the weather plays along. Not terribly busy on a Sunday afternoon, but still quite a lineup to take that special photo. Nit worth the wait. Just take it from any other angle. IMHO, only worth a visit if you have a car or if you stay in the area. A day trip with public transportation would be a nightmare, if at all possible.

Beautiful place to visit. Just an hour away by bus and can also continue visiting other tourist spots in the city. I went to see the gate and Sakurai Shrine on my trip. Amazing! I have attached a timetable from Hakata Bus Terminal to Futamigaura, the first bus leaves at 8.48am (weekday). You can use IC card to pay, no need to reserve the ticket in advance. (It could get busy on the weekend.

The torii located at the beach such a sight to behold. You can just stare at it while listening to waves as they crash on the rocky coast line of Itoshima. Very relaxing and a very good photo spot. Shofukuji, established in 1195 by Zen patriarch Eisai, is renowned as the oldest Zen temple in Japan. Nestled within expansive grounds and featuring a serene garden with a picturesque pond, this historic sanctuary offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city of Fukuoka. The temple holds significant cultural and historical value as it was founded by Eisai upon his return from China, where he introduced Zen Buddhism and tea to Japan.
Find your peace here! This temple is in the middle of a beautiful park and near Gion subway station. It’s well maintained and simply beautiful. It was impressively empty with a few locals there.

This temple is the place of birth of Zen Buddhism in Japan. It was founded in 1195 and is enlightening many previous visit of more famous temples in Kyoto! I would go to Kyushu just for this visit ! a large and tranquil temple complex and is believed to be the first Zen temple in Japan. a couple of magnificent wooden temples / buildings around, but all are not open to the public. after visiting the busy Tochoji Temple, we enjoyed the moment of quietness and calmness, and we wandered into the well-maintained garden with shady trees.
Ernest T — Google review
Shofukuji Temple is probably the earliest or the oldest Zen Sect Temple in Japan, and it was built in 1195, although its current Sanmon Gate was built in 1911. It worships Triad Buddhas for the Buddha of the Past, of the Present [which is Shakyamuni Buddha], and of the Future as main deities, and for Japanese Zen Buddhism, Three Buddhas are Shaka, Amida, and Miroku. While the Temple seems to be intended to preserve its original building structures, garden, ponds, and others as much as possible, the Temple does show signs of aging and damage in the Temple yard/site, especially for the area around the pond. Temple is free of charge for entrance, though there is NO bathroom or toilet inside the Temple. The Temple is in close walking distance from Tochoji Temple, but the road signs for the Shofukuji Temples are NOT well marked or posted for every major road which can be connected to the Temple.

Plenty of harmless lazy but healthy looking cats relaxing on front entrance to the main temple building. Grounds are very nice, spacious and tranquil. Reasonably well kept up and worth a visit. A small pond and bridge for photos. Temple building itself was not accessible but observable from all over the inside grounds. Recommended

Hakata Traditional Craft and Design Museum, located near Kushida Jinja Shrine, showcases traditional Fukuoka and Hakata crafts such as woven textiles, dolls, spinning tops, and other handicrafts. The first-floor exhibition room hosts occasional workshops, exhibitions, and lectures related to these traditional crafts. On the second floor, visitors can explore permanent displays of Hakata Ori (woven textiles) and Hakata Ningyo (dolls).
According to the info I knew, It moved to Hakata in May 2, 2025. I visited here first at Fukuoka City Museum in April 2025, and found it has a small exhibiting place.

It was smaller than I expected, I thought there would be more textile items there.

It's basically a shop inside another museum. No longer in the merchants house in Hakada. Long way to go.

Neil B — Google review
A single corridor worth of crafts, which given a zero yen admission fee, is well worth it. You are really coming for the Fukuoka City museum, which is in the same building. You stay a little longer for the Traditional Crafts. Or, come for the free Wi-Fi in the FreeSpace room, also in the same building, do some work and then see a few crafts.

When you think of Fukuoka, the vibrant scene of yatai, or street food stalls, immediately comes to mind. Among these culinary gems is Yatai Aka-chochin, a beloved spot that captures the essence of local dining culture. With over 100 yatai scattered throughout the city, this particular stall stands out for its warm atmosphere and delicious offerings.
We came after reading the good reviews and it was indeed the right choice. The yatai was full when we first came, so we spent some time shopping in the mall nearby, then came back again at 8PM and could get 5 seats for our group. The food, the staff, the atmosphere were great, especially the gyoza (dumpling) was excellent. The owner gave my children gummy candy after they finished the meal, that made them so happy :). Highly recommended!
Anh P — Google review
The food was not as good as previous yatai we have tried but most importantly, they tried to charge me 7100yen when I have only ordered 4700yen worth! They see that we are foreigners and tried to scam us thinking I would not double check. They sat people behind us before us after having us wait in line for a really long time. That was infuriating but we did get seated soon after and after I pointed that out. This place is Not foreigner welcome and is dishonest. Luckily, I had them itemize our check and we ended up paying the correct amount. But I can tell they were for sure had the intentions of charging us more instead of this being an honest mistake. They just think foreigners are all rich and wouldn’t check so tries to over charge us. The “grilled noodles” was not good at all. The doburi soup was too sweet. The pork dish was too fat. The dish with the bitter melon, egg and tofu barely had any egg in it. Dumpling also not any impressive and the size of the dumplings are really small. Nothing was worth the wait. This place is just not good. Their reviews are probably just from family and friends. Another spot using google to scam foreigners.
L. L — Google review
Highly recommended!!!! The fried ramen is a must have, it was amazing and full of flavor. We also tried the ramen (I started eating before taking a photo, explains why the photo for the ramen isn't the best), gyoza and the fried pork. All of these items were delicious. I will eat here again. You can order anything or everything and will not be disappointed. We showed up as soon as they opened at 6pm, this is an outdoor stand.

Loved the whole experience of dining at a yatai stall — simple street-side seating, delicious food, and friendly locals all around. A true taste of the local culture!
Thadd 李 — Google review
We patronized the stall last Sunday at about 630pm, just when it opened. Parking was easy, we parked at Daimura just across the road. There were 4 of us and 3 other customers then. Midway through the meal, 4 other customers came and only 1 seat was left. The owner and staff were really friendly, spoke some English. The atmosphere was great, it was dining on the walkway and next to a major road. You get up close to the cooking and other customers sitting shoulder to shoulder. We ordered sake, it tasted good, only thing was that it was not chilled, it was at room temperature. The Bitter Melon stirred fried with Tofu and Egg is worth a try, melon was not too bitter. Grilled Skate Fin was good but could have been grilled to a more crispy state. Gyoza was fantastic with the spiciness. Roast Pork Korea Style was ordinary. The ramen is passable, cannot complain. Overall food was good for a street side stall, not the best though. For the experience of a street stall dining experience and eating local style, it does overcome some of the inadequacies of the food quality. Prices are very reasonable too which you can see from the menu. Pretty good value for money. Have to try a Ya Tai when in Fukuoka.

Their high rating is well deserved, better than the often mentioned yatais in travel stories. LOVE the food (so delicious) n the experience. We ordered the items with pictures on the menu — Bitter Melon Stir Fry with Tofu and Egg, Okinawa Gyoza, Mentaiko Tamagoyaki. I’m sure the other dishes are just as good, going by how much we love what we had. Very affordable prices. The owners were very nice people. It’s a single stall under a tree a short walk from Daimaru. Opens at 6.30pm. ALL THE BEST TO THEM.🌸

Perhaps the best meal we ate in Fukuoka. This stand has great energy and delicious food. We showed up right when they opened and were able to get a seat. The gyozas are possibly the best I’ve had in my life. The fried ramen is simple but delicious. Highly recommend!

Nestled in the northwest region of Fukuoka, Munakata Shrine is a captivating Shinto shrine complex that pays homage to the three goddesses known as Munakata Sanjo-shin. This ancient site, steeped in history and mythology, comprises three distinct shrines: Okitsumiya on Okinoshima Island, Nakatsumiya on Oshima Island, and Hetsumiya in Munakata itself.
This is a very beautiful shrine. But it was raining n cold day so i c could not take much picture. Im sure i ll visit again and try to visit another shrine on the island.

A place you feel good being there. I went from Tokyo, flew to Fukuoka and took a bus and door to door totally took me 5 hours but i really enjoyed the experience. Clean air to clean my soul.

Great shrine that has one of the oldest shrine history in Japan. Three female deities are enshrined separately and two of them are in isolated islands but you can visit them virtually all in one location as they have two little shrine branches here in the back of the main building. Spiritual feeling there as walking there. It's free. Only the optional treasure museum requires the fee.

we should use a taxy from JR TOGO st. because there's only one bus in 1hr. and I don't know why, busses leave TOGO station before trains reach. However, there are so many beautiful small shline and atmosphere is so clean! sometimes, pack tourist from south KOREA and CHINA are noisy. but after some ten minuits, they will go away with big busses. and when you have a good luck, you can find nice taxy driver and he/she takes you a miyadhidake shrine through special place! and it costs only 2,800 JPY inc tax and chips. OOHPS, Munakata Taisha is world wide famous place! I recommend you when you go to Munakata Taisha, to go to Miyadgidake Jinja, too.

One of the first pagodas I have visited in Japan. Fortunately, it was an amazing experience. Despite the language barrier, I could feel the traditional in every little thing around here. Especially the forrest which likely brings visitors to a peaceful world. The history and legend of this place can be searched on Internet easily though.

First time visiting this shrine that was designated as a World Heritage Site and exactly one year ago. The outdoor Kabuki performance by world renowned Ebizo Ichikawa was the highlight that started at dusk. Crowd control of the 3000+ patrons was flawless and the city even arranged for additional express buses to the JR station before and after the performance

Hakata Port Tower, a 100-meter lattice tower built in 1964, is a great spot for enjoying panoramic views of Fukuoka and the sea. Its observation deck at 70 meters offers stunning night views of the Urban Expressway and Fukuoka City. The tower is free to access, making it a rare find in Japan. Visitors can also enjoy views of the seaside and cityscape from this symbol of Hakata Bay.
Free to go to the top. Last entry was at 19:40 on the day I went (20th April). Great views and I appreciate how it is free (unlike Sapporo Tower!)
Reuben C — Google review
I visited this tower around lunch time and then again at sunset. It offers an expansive 360° view of Fukuoka and Hakata port and stays open later enough to watch the sunset over the water as well as the transition into full night sky. There were surprisingly few other people considering it was a Saturday and it's free to enter. Yes - the cost is free! I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a bird's eye view of the city. The cost is just an added bonus. I plan on returning at least one more time to try and catch a sunset with fewer clouds.

I seem to gyrate towards towers everywhere i travel to 🤪 we walked all the way from Tenjin along the river bank and it’s a great way of seeing the part of Fukuoka. The port tower is not tall in any sense, but it has a great view of the sea and surroundings. Come during sunset and believe me it’s gorgeous. The tower also lit up in blue and red at night. Entrance is free and the staff is so courteous 👍🏻 there are some historical info as well as model ships to see. Hardly anyone comes here, so there is mo crowd at all. I really like the feel here, serene and solitude. Its good then there is no crowd else it will spoil the whole feel 😉

Good viewing of the Hakata Port and the port display items. Understand how the sea port works and the various aspects of vessel . Good presentation and very well maintained facilities. The entry fee is free and closed on Wednesday. If I have a chance to visit Hakata in the future I am planning to visit the tower in the evening. They close very early at 8 pm .
Colin T — Google review
FREE ADMISSION. In a way this tower is much better than Fukuoka Tower in the distance because it has free admission and there are barely any other tourists here. The entrance is small and not that well marked, but it leads into a museum area and from there you can go to the tower's base. There are two elevators that take you to the top. After the initial group left, we had the whole place to ourself. There are good views of Hakata and there are images showing what each sight is in the distance. There's a funny sign on the street that says "Welcome to Nagasaki" and it makes quite an ironic picture.

This is a free tower with a wonderful view of the harbor and very close to where the cruise ships dock in Hakata. Also a small museum about the tower on the ground floor.

Fukuoka Zoo and Botanical Garden is a long-standing establishment that offers a wide variety of animal and plant species, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can also explore the Hakozaki Shrine festival, featuring 3,500 ajisai flowers of over 100 different kinds. Additionally, the lily garden showcases 5,000 lilies of 30 different varieties.
The entry fee is 600yen. They have the zoo and botanical garden, both is fun and I especially liked that they have plenty of access to clean toilet everywhere. It was hot when I went there so most of the animals are taking nap, I probably will go for second time in fall because they have the area specific for autumn plants. For meal, the restaurant by the entry is about 1500yen per dish and the one by botanical garden is like 1000yen on average. The closing hour 4:30, it's better if you go in the early morning if you want to take your time to enjoy the whole park. Def recommended :)
Diyah S — Google review
The entry fee is ridiculously cheap. We went on a Thursday morning and it was pretty quiet, which was great. 🍝🌮The restaurant served surprisingly good food ,way better than expected We couldn’t finish the whole route around the zoo and only managed to see about a quarter of the animals because it was just way too hot outside 😢😭absolutely scorching, we couldn’t handle it 😭😭😭. Would definitely recommend coming on a cooler day or when the weather’s nicer! July.2025
Alex E — Google review
Amazing! It is extremely worth it for the entry fee of 600 yen. There is a variety of animals to see. Recommended to go during cooler weather as most of the zoo is unsheltered and sits on a hill. Add this to your itinerary if you’re unsure of what to do in Fukuoka! PS. as other reviews have mentioned, some of the animals do look quite lonely in the enclosures 😢
Lydia — Google review
A great place to visit with kids! It’s huge, with some hilly areas, but the lifts are well located, so it’s easy to get around with a stroller. You can see the animals up close, which is amazing. There’s also a rose botanical garden next to it, but it was under construction when I visited (Nov 25). The toilets and nursing room were very clean and well maintained. The information staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I left my bag somewhere, and she did their absolute best to help me find it — thanks to her, I got it back! 🙏🏻🙏🏻😍❤️

I enjoyed seeing a variety of God's creatures. Family oriented atmosphere with kid's carnival rides. A botanical garden is also available for a family picnic. Took almost 3 hours to venture throughout the well made landscape. Visitors with difficulty walking would be a challenge.
Ronald A — Google review
This zoo looks more well maintained than some of the others I've been to in Japan. There is a restraraunt next to the entrance which is a bit pricey, food was average but it was nice to sit down and relax before walking around. Price is 600 yen per adult and toddlers are free. This includes the zoo and botanical garden. Strollers are available for hire at 330 yen. One thing to note is that majority of the zoo section is uphill which can be challenging during hot days.
Simon T — Google review
A decent zoo that’s actually quite big, with very reasonable ticket prices. There are lots of animals to see, and it even has a beautiful garden to enjoy. A great place to spend the day!

Flea & Street Markets
Yanagibashi Rengo Market, also known as Hakata's Kitchen, is a traditional marketplace with over 100 years of history in Fukuoka. It offers a compact setting where you can find an array of local meats, seafood, and produce. The market is famous for its fresh seafood caught daily and a wide variety of local products.
Let's be fair and not compare this small market with the big ones. While waiting for our turn at one of the eatery, I managed to venture 80% of the market, sans the small alleyways. As Hakata is famous for mentaiko, there are many stalls that sells them. Lining the main alley are packaged seafood, ready to cook food, sweets, eateries but most importantly, one of my favourite slimy vegetables beside nameko which is 順菜 can be found here! So quaint!
Alvin L — Google review
We visited on a Saturday around 2 PM and noticed that only a few stalls were open at the time. The market is relatively small and can be explored in about 30 minutes or less. Compared to larger markets like Kuromon, this one is more compact, but it does have its charm. There are a few small restaurants offering chirashidon and sashimi rice bowls. During our visit, there was one stall serving fresh sashimi for immediate consumption, with a small table set up where you could enjoy it with soy sauce and wasabi—it was fresh and tasty. We also tried the stall selling assorted fish cakes. If you mention you’ll eat them right away, they’ll warm them up for you on the spot, which was a nice touch. The market includes a small lounge area with seating, a vending machine for drinks, and a restroom for convenience. While it may not be a must-visit if you're tight on time, it's worth checking out if you're nearby and in the mood for good quality sashimi at an affordable price.
Tita P — Google review
A small market not far from the subway station. The market sells a variety of fresh produce such as seafood and fruits + dried goods including tea leaves. There are also several stores that sells seafood bowls which are really fresh and affordable.
Amos S — Google review
Quite a short street but full of mainly shops selling seafood though there is a shop selling tea and teapots while there is another selling seafood and mushrooms. There are also three main restaurants selling seafood don with soba noodles or miso soup. Worth a visit for a quick and unassuming meal.
Steven L — Google review
A little market street that makes for a short exploration into a market with both locals and tourists. Stalls here sell mainly fresh seafood and sashimi, and vegetables (some quite large!). It's not big in any sense, but perhaps that's part of its charm.

Visitors can enjoy fishing opportunities, delicious food with a view of the waterfall, and the chance to relax amidst the high-level minus eons generated by the falls.
This place is beautiful, n felt so cool under the hot weather in summer.... Nice experience but the place isn't that big, you can visit many places around this side in a day. We stayed for around an hour.

Shiraito Falls is a really good tourist spot and definitely worth visiting. The waterfalls are very beautiful and the surroundings are peaceful, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. They also have a special kind of soba here that you should definitely try, it’s really delicious and unique to the area. You can also go fishing nearby, and the fish tastes amazingly fresh and good. Overall, it’s a great place to spend time and enjoy both nature and local food.

Ariana A — Google review
Okay.... Visited 7 March 2024 Free admission and free parking. There are 3 levels of parking, the upper level is closest to the waterfall. The area around the waterfall is very small. There's also trails that can be hiked if you have time. The drive up the steep narrow road is crazy, long and dangerous. There's two different roads to the waterfall, one is ridiculous, the other is much better and safer. Google map will probably choose the worst one. There are way too many blind spots and not enough mirrors on that road. Please drive carefully. Not recommended on weekends or holidays. Best on weekdays and right before closing. On my visit the restaurants and small fishing pool were closing, so I can't comment on those. The waterfall itself is surprisingly easy to access and photograph if there isn't a crowd. It was very empty when I visited. Beautiful and relaxing view with fresh air. Will calm your spirits and take away your worries. Overall: Recommended to visit but choose your visit time wisely. This place looks like it will be a long wait on a busy day. I can see visitors getting stuck in line on that long hill.
Jay J — Google review
Huge waterfall and beautiful scenery, especially in autumn. Although we went on a Sunday, it wasn't very crowded. There is limited parking though, and you may have to wait on a spot. A few steep hiking trails are nearby that offer some nice views and there is a shrine and some shops, although they were all closed due to construction in mid Nov. 2025.

International airport
Fukuoka Airport (FUK) is conveniently located near the city center and offers easy access via underground, bus, or car. It features both domestic and international terminals, with direct rail service to Fukuoka. Despite being one of Japan's smaller airports, it is the fourth busiest in the country, serving passengers from domestic destinations and other parts of Asia. The airport boasts observation decks, free WiFi, nursing rooms, and a clean environment.
The redesign is superb, especially the international departures area. I saw how it changed over time. During my visit in May 2025, a central food station (Hakata Food Station) was already in place, and duty-free stores were placed. Because there are plenty, you will never run out of seats, charging stations, or toilets.
Harby N — Google review
Having passed through the newly renovated Fukuoka Airport in 2024, I was thoroughly impressed. While it retains its compact and manageable size, the updates have given it a wonderfully fresh and refreshing feel, making it a very pleasant place to arrive or depart from. The greatest advantage remains its incredible convenience. Its location is unbeatable, being one of the closest airports to a major city center in the world. The addition of free shuttle rides from the international terminal to the subway station is a fantastic touch, making the commute into the heart of Fukuoka an absolute breeze. It’s a model of efficiency and user-friendly design.
Sorlo S — Google review
This is how an airport is supposed to work: less than 3 minutes to check in; less than 3 minutes for security check and passport control. Well done, Fukuoka. Nice large duty free area. There's even a large liquor section with lots and lots of free sampling. (In all these aspects Fukuoka is much better than Nagoya and Osaka.)
Cecil M — Google review
Such a pleasant little airport—compact, efficient, and actually quite pretty compared to many other international airports in Asia. Immigration was smooth and quick, plenty of seating areas, and a few lounges to relax in. Pro tip: take the metro to the last stop, Fukuoka Airport, then follow the exit for the free shuttle to the international terminal. It’s super quick, a short walk, and way easier than expected!
Genta — Google review
Be aware that the international and domestic terminals are in separate locations — you’ll need to take a shuttle bus for about 5–10 minutes. The airport itself is efficient, clean, and easy to navigate. Plenty of shops inside, with just the right balance — not overwhelming, but enough variety to find what you need. Security lines move quickly, making it one of Japan’s better airports for smooth travel.
The A — Google review
Fukuoka Airport leaves a mixed impression. On the positive side, the international terminal is clean, modern, and well maintained, with clear signage, spotless restrooms, free baggage carts, and a wide range of restaurants and souvenir shops. 👌 On the negative side, the connection (about 25 minutes) between the international terminal and the metro station located at the domestic terminal is a hassle. Passengers are forced to take a free shuttle bus, often standing with their luggage, just to cross the airfield. 🥴
Big D — Google review
Nothing beats a direct flight to FUK. Fukuoka Airport is probably Japan's best airport in terms of proximity to the city centre. It is so convenient! Some tips for the airport: When you enter the arrival lobby and see the information centre and Tully's, the JR pass exchange counter is to your left. Next to it is a seasonal fruit store where you can score some great tasting produce. The SIM card/WiFi counters are on the right towards Lawson. Straight ahead is the bus berth taking you to Hakata, Dazaifu, Yufuin (if you want to hit the ground running!) The newly opened Food Hall you heard about is located in the transit area of departure terminal. The subway is exactly located at the domestic terminal, so if that's your mode of transport, take a shuttle over where you can also purchase their regional IC card (nimoca). You can also purchase Sugoca from the bus ticketing counter facing the road. We took the airport bus to Hakata, a 15-20 minutes ride to Hakata station, a main transport hub of Kyushu. The bus isn't very well-equiped in terms of luggage space, like a pre-converted bus that hasn't decided to leave it's day job.
Alvin L — Google review
THE MOST LOVABLE AIRPORT IN JAPAN! I struck in love since my flight almost landed in Fukuoka Airport. The beautiful scenery, surrounded by mountains. Ainoshima Island, also known as Cat Island, is a charming and laid-back destination in Fukuoka, Japan. Situated just 6 km from the mainland, this small island is home to approximately 200 feral cats that roam freely. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely day trip exploring the island's picturesque coastline, shrines, and historic sites while encountering the friendly felines along the way.
If you just wanna pat some cats, 1 hour is total enough. Or you can stay here 3 hours, enough to walk around the whole island and get a dinner, which is what i did.
Kurt H — Google review
Ainoshima Island is highly recommended if you are in the Fukuoka area and want to visit a cat island. For ¥100 (cash only), there's a shuttle bus from Fukko Daimae station that will take you to the ferry terminal. See my photo of the bus you need to take. Otherwise, a ¥3000 cab ride will suffice. The 20 minutes ferry ride was about ¥500 one way to Ainoshima. Note the weird ferry schedule to the island. 7:50, 9:20, 11:30, 14:30, 16:40, 18:10. If the ferry gets full, you will need to take the next one, which was the case for me. The 11:30 ferry was full and they stop letting people on. They will run another ferry to pick the stragglers around 45 minutes later, not on the schedule. The conductor announced it in Japanese. So, brush up on your Japanese. You don't have to wait for the 14:30 ferry. When you get to the island, you will have to buy your return ticket. While on the island, note the rules. You can feed the cats. But only cat food, on a paper tray. Be clean and pack your garbage. The cats on this island are well cared for. They looked healthy and are friendly. There aren't big clowders of cats. But rather, sporadic encounters. Even without food, the cats will let you pet them. I spent about two hours exploring the island and playing with random cats. Only one cat hissed at me when I tried to pet it. The rest were great. There's a restaurant, cafe, grocery store, food stall and gift shop on the island. Free wifi is available at the visitor's center. For the return ferry ride, there are two lines. People will be given a blue ticket if they missed the previous ferry because it was full. This was life changing. I've never been to a cat island before. It is so different than a cat cafe.

So many adorable cats! You’ll have so much fun playing with them that you might even forget about your cats at home for a while. 🐾 There are also restaurants and small shops on the island, so don’t worry about food. Thank you to the sister at the restaurant for accepting my Alina no Tabi sticker too! I recommend walking all the way to the shrine because the view along the way is beautiful, it doesn’t take long, and it’s definitely worth it! 💕 To get here, you need to take a ferry from Shingu Port. The fare is 480 yen per trip. ( Round-trip = 960 yen )🚢 As for the ferry schedule, please check the photo included here. Make sure to plan your time carefully and you’ll be able to enjoy the whole day on this lovely cat island! 🐱🌿

Zacurry C — Google review
I could retire here. Search for "Shingu ferry waiting area" for the ferry terminal that takes you to the island. Buses seem to be coordinated with ferry times, but be careful which bus you get on as they go to different JR stations. We visited on a Sept weekday and most shops were closed. There was the burger place that was open, a sushi stand if you keep walking towards and past the tourist information direction for about 5 min, and vending machines for drinks. There's also cat toys for you to borrow from the visitor info building. They were at the TV in the back corner. But of course, most cats didn't care much for them 😄.
Gordon Y — Google review
Meow 🐱 it’s Cat Island! It was raining hard but I pushed through and thankfully the heavens allowed us to set sail, and enjoy the island that is full of, you know it - cats! He still very polite to us but we no understand why he smiling talking to all other customers but when deal with us, the face straight pull down. We didn’t spent too much time there as we still offer seat to other customer that we will finish our food fast to gv seat for them. There were also Asian customers and only observation and guess we have is owner probably too shy with gals or we had taking a bit of time to decide what to order.

Please do not visit this shop. The chef is using dirty water (dirty plates in water basin) to cook the dishes. Spicy vege just soaked in oil served on the plate. Food is over grilled and charred too much. Chef used dirty water to splash on dishes and washed his hands. Raw and cooked food being cut on the same cutting board, GROSS !!! Each person is compulsory to purchase 1 drink, and the chef's attire is way too dirty. Big fire while cooking using a wok show? Just a technique to distract his inability to cook and hiding away his dirty way of cooking things. Pattern more than badminton. I do not understand why there are people still rating 5 stars, please pay attention to the chef when he cooks your food.

Our first Yatai experience and we had an amazing meal here. If you come late, there should be little queue. The owner’s multitasking skills are next level. He was the chef, waiter, cleaner, and cashier. And did all those duties with incredible speed. Visitors who are worried about hygiene level will not feel comfortable here. But overall, we’re here for the food and it did not disappoint. 6 stars for the food.

Marinoa City Fukuoka is Kyushu's largest outlet mall, located about 30 minutes from downtown Fukuoka. It offers over 170 shops, including international and Japanese brands specializing in fashion, interior goods, and sundries. The waterfront complex features a unique American pier-style design with a budget-friendly boardwalk housing various outlet stores and casual dining options.
-Visited on a Friday and it was not that crowded -Easy access by taking a direct bus from the Hakata station -It was a simple outlet mall divided into a few buildings. All buildings are connected with bridges in between so you do not need to walk from the ground floor. -There is a Ferris wheel and Game Center.

Although I have been to Fukuoka a few times, I have never gone to an outlet mall before so decided to hop by for a day to see how it is. Relatively small compared to others and shops size just about the same too, but I do like that it has lesser traffic compare to others. Had a cheese & honey toast at the coffee shop and done extra roasted coffee to power through. I like the idea that it is close to the seaside so it makes it an ideal place to chill over the weekend under the sun with a nice iced coffee. They have a few eateries, around 10 of them that varies from Japanese to Chinese to western and have a Macdonald there too. This outlet is pet friendly so also managed to see a few fur parents brining their fur kids for walks. If you do not like overcrowded malls, this can be a good option. I took the bus which use the PASMO and it is super convenient, around 20 mins from city center. Just remember Japanese bus entrance is from the back unlike Singapore which is the fronts. :)
Lorelai D — Google review
I personally felt this place is better than Tosu premium outlet.. I went on a weekday and there is no crowd. Bought one luggage from the Samsonite store. Take bus 333 from Hakata bus stop A, the journey takes about 50mins.

Marinoa City, located in Fukuoka, is an excellent place to go dining and shopping. The shopping center caters to a diverse range of customers with a variety of budgets thanks to its numerous stores, which include high-end designer labels and more reasonably priced options. Beautiful views are available from the waterfront setting, which enhances the whole experience. Marinoa City's food courts are equally spectacular. A wide variety of cuisines are available, such as Italian, Japanese, and other international dishes. In general, the food quality is excellent, and it's a terrific place to sample different Japanese foods. Marinoa City is unique in that it offers a combination of dining and shopping with stunning views of the ocean. For those wishing to indulge in retail therapy and enjoy delectable cuisine in unique sitting method simply next to Sea Side

This outlet has many different types of shops. Some shops sell cheaper items while some price are high. Not all the shops have tax refund. Need to check or the catalog or ask the sales. This outlet is more suitable for ladies. Not too many shops and items for men. Bring your wife here and you can have your free day :) Have some restaurants and food court. There is a ferris wheel which can see the seaview.
Trip C — Google review
Great place to visit if you want to go for shopping! So many good brands to choose from where you can enjoy great discounts! The place also offers amazing view of the harbor with lots of yachts on it, a giant ferris wheel for you and your kids to enjoy from and is surrounded with many restaurants also.
Lemuel C — Google review
Lots of shops and food choices. Loved Sports Depo. Got a great deal at Samsonite. Bus stops in front of the outlet mall. Take bus 333. Costs less than ¥300 from Tenjin bus terminals outside Mitsukoshi.
Joey O — Google review
It is a huge place to go shopping & have meals. It will probably take 2-3 days to properly walk through each shop & buy stuff. Depending on what you are looking for, it may take a short/long time. Some shops sell products that are off season which are cheaper. Some have new products. Definitely prices not as good as outlet malls per se. I think outlet malls have better deals.

Performing arts theater
Hakataza Theater is a renowned venue in Kyushu, offering a diverse range of performances including kabuki, musicals, and dramatic theater productions. With a seating capacity of 1500 spread across three floors, the theater hosts much-talked-about plays and projects on a monthly basis. The stage, measuring 20m x 21m, is well-equipped to accommodate various genres with elaborate settings.
This theater is amazing. You can watch Kabuki for a few months a year.Performing arts are beautiful and create good memories. The theater's facilities are excellent, with high-quality boxed lunches for sale and plenty of restrooms. I recommend purchasing lunch before it starts.During breaks, you can eat at your seat or in the rest area.
T E — Google review
As soon as you arrive at Hakataza Theater, there's no need to search, the Ticket Office is clearly visible, with automated machines for online reservations. You don’t need to enter the theater itself: ticket pickup is done outside, left of the main entrance. The interface is intuitive, and the process takes less than a minute if you have your information ready. If you're unsure about anything, the staff is available just behind the counter nearby. 👍
Big D — Google review
The theater itself was lovely, all of the vendors were nice, and the performance was absolutely amazing. Stunning attention to detail with the ability to entertain someone that knows only some of the language being used. The staff were very accommodating and kind and the bento was delicious!!

Amazing place! If you understand japanese, i really recommand to get a ticket.
JH L — Google review
There isn't a bad seat in the house, acoustics are excellent and at intermissions, all sorts of booths selling tasty snacks, meals and drinks. I've been here for two musicals, 1879 and Marie Antoinette and been thrilled with the place both times. It's well located and easy to find.

Located west of Fukuoka City, the Itoshima Peninsula offers a delightful coastal experience. Visitors can savor fresh barbecued oysters at the kakigoya huts while enjoying other seafood options like squid, turban shell, and scallops. The peninsula is a popular summer destination with beautiful beaches and great surf, reminiscent of Bali or Thailand. Couples often capture romantic moments at sunset viewpoints such as Couples Rock.
Place where I enjoyed to the fullest, extremely beautiful japan xx

It is wonderful to drive out here. You will see scenic views of the coast that look like they are straight off a postcard. There are also many cool shops and sites of interest to check out. If you like coastal driving, taking cool photos, and the beach life, you should definitely take the time to check this place out for yourself.

Hakozakigu is a historic shrine in Fukuoka, dating back to 923 and dedicated to the Hachiman god, as well as three ancient Japanese Emperors and Empresses. Despite being destroyed during the Mongol invasion of 1284, it was reconstructed and now features vibrant grounds with beautiful flower displays and numerous bo trees. The shrine also houses iconic antiquities such as a stone anchor used by Mongolian ships and a statue of the prominent Buddhist scholar Nichiren.
Three richly decorated mikoshi are permanently on display at Hakozakigū. They embody the three deities venerated here: Hachiman (Emperor Ōjin), Empress Jingū, and Tamayori-hime, key figures in the Shinto pantheon. These portable shrines are used during festivals to symbolically transport the gods.

A very peaceful and amazing historical landmark in Fukuoka to visit. The shrine is very beautiful and mesmerizing. Easy to access via the train rail station near by and it is free to walk the grounds.
Anthony P — Google review
The shrine is quiet and spacious. I added it to my list of Fukuoka shrines to visit, and it was a good call. I received the shrine’s limited glass goshuin for ¥1,000. Visited in late September 2025.
LA F — Google review
An amazing peaceful place, I loved it , highly recommended. I would say western tourists need to be more respectful...when it says no photography in the main area when there is a ceremony happening put your cameras away FFS...that's a note to the Older Australian couple who ignored everyone and didn't care.
Paulo S — Google review
Nestled in a residential area is this bustling shrine with a large ground. There are restaurants and cafes opposite the shrine and sometimes you can see the planes overhead. Handwritten Goshuin available.
Michelle Y — Google review
This is an interesting and beautiful shrine but my visit was distinguished, in particular, by a hydrangea festival. I was fortunate to arrive early enough in the season to avoid the crowds and to benefit from the 100 yen entrance fee as opposed to the 300 yen that it will soon cost (this is May 26, 2024), but just after a rainstorm had cleared and just as the hydrangea were shifting from budding to blooming. Therefore, there were very few people, the lighting was great for taking photos and the flowers were not yet in full bloom, allowing for a more subtle experience of their beauty.
Reginald W — Google review
It’s in the middle of a residential area but there’s some eatery, other smaller temples and a small mall nearby. Temple compound is quite big and you can walk around the main building into the garden area. A very peaceful and serene place to visit. Handwritten goshuin is available.

Kego Shrine is a serene and unassuming shrine nestled in the heart of a bustling city center, adjacent to Kego Park. The well-maintained grounds feature an offering box beneath the bells, attracting visitors who come to pray for blessings. Despite its small size, the shrine offers a peaceful retreat from the surrounding urban hustle and bustle. Additionally, it is noted for its juxtaposition with modern buildings and architecture. Some visitors also appreciate the free foot hot spring available at times.
This shrine is located in the middle of shopping area. This pretty outstanding from all of crowd. I saw many locals stopped to respect the shrine in the evening.
May C — Google review
The shrine is located in the middle of the city near a lot of things. It was quiet and peaceful with less foot traffic compared to the areas right outside the shrine. There’s a resting area and a huge park right next to the shrine. A peaceful place to visit and step away from the city and pray.
Kevin H — Google review
The shrine offers beautiful goshuin, and the shrine member inside the office was very friendly. He handed back my goshuincho with a warm smile, something I rarely see during shrine visits. The goshuin costs ¥500. The shrine is easily accessible by bus, with a stop located right outside. Visited in late September 2025.

The shrine is very beautiful to see in Fukuoka located in the city center. Can get busy at times, a historical landmark worth visiting and seeing.
Anthony P — Google review
This place caught my eye as I was having coffee nearby. The shrine is located within the shopping area of Tenjin and beside the Blue bottle cafe. It is a small shrine and very accessible. I noticed a lot of people go here. For me, it's also a must visit place in Fukuoka.
Travel T — Google review
A shrine located at the heart of the city. Didn’t get to know the history of the shrine, but it’s a place where you would feel calm and peaceful in the hustles of the city.
Sean C — Google review
Really nice place to visit quickly in the busy center of the city, very calm and peaceful ⛩️
Liviu A — Google review
Small and tranquil shrine. The best part about these types of shrines is they are in the middle of the hustle and bustle of everything else. The grounds are well kept and there is an offering box below the bells. I have seen quite a few people come here and pray for a blessing. I would suggest this to visit either for the novelty, or to enjoy the small piece of tranquility. Be sure not to disturb people praying, and to bow when you make an offering as well as right before you leave the temple proper.
