Restaurant
Nestled on Cairnryan Road with a stunning view of Loch Ryan, Henrys Bay House Restaurant is a newly renovated gem in Stranraer. The property includes a bar and an impressive two-bedroom owner's apartment. With its charming turn-key operation, the restaurant offers an excellent food selection featuring locally sourced fish and meat prepared to order. Guests can enjoy al fresco dining on the sun terrace during summer while taking in the breathtaking views year-round.
We had a lovely meal here whilst we were holidaying in the area 😊 I was easily able to book a table via email. Once at the restaurant we were seated with lovely views out over the bay. The staff were all very friendly and the food was so delicious. I had a few of the fish dishes, including the mussels and smoked haddock risotto. They were freshly cooked and piping hot. Absolutely lovely! The beef roast dinner and chicken sizzle plate were also highly recommended by my family. A lot of local delicacies available too! I would definitely recommend eating here if you're in the area. It was a lovely treat!

Was here with a group for a meal. I had the mac and cheese it was 18 pounds and came with 2 slices of garlic bread. Sides were extra. It tasted good but even though it was on the main meal side of the menu i would suggest that portion size was more for toddlers. And priced rather high for what you get. That being said every one enjoyed the time there and the food they had.

Henrys is becoming our regular place for Sunday lunch. Lovely view's over the bay. The pod's are a little different if there's a few of you as you feel like it's just you in the restaurant.. we had soup which was very nice. Roast beef is exceptional just melts in your mouth with veggies and yorkshire pudding.. chicken sizzler which my partner says is brilliant.. pudding is their cheesecake which has been different flavour every time it's absolutely to die for .. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Pauline W — Google review
Fantastic position on the shore.of Loch Ryan. Lovely outdoor patio area with pods if needed from cold winds. I had Cullen Skink one of my favourite soups and it didn't disappoint. Followed that with Roadt Beef, veggies, a Yorkshire pudding and the most delicious gravy. Gave in and had a dessert when I spotted Creme Brulee on the menu. It was one of the best Creme Brulees I've ever had Beautifully appointed venue. Delightful cheery, knowledgeable staff, , first class toikt facilities. Disabled parking. Definitely Italy a not to.be missed restaurant in Stranraer
Gail H — Google review
We usually have Sunday lunch at Henry's as the food quality is so good, eating from the Sunday menu the roast beef is excellent with just enough on the plate so as not to over face you, I have tried all the dishes on the menu and could not fault any of them, and the cheese cake is very much worth the reputation it carries no matter what the flavour and there are quite a few to choose from. The staff are very attentive with youngsters who carry out the serving tasks very well and the older members of the team backing them up with great sense of humour and really friendly chatter and funny banter. Nothing is to much trouble for any of them to make your meal memorable.
Russ H — Google review
Absolute gem of a place. Very tasty food. Generous portions... The seafood was particularly good (We had a seafood platter starter for 2 which was huge) - definitely could have been a main if you had some chips with it. Would not hesitate to return if / when I'm back in the area.

We came all the way to Stranraer, Scotland, to visit a dear old friend, who recommended Henry's Bay House for dinner. This lovely restaurant, facing the sea, has a full bar and a menu featuring a variety of seafood dishes, alongside classic standard fare. Our party of five was seated at a comfortable half-booth table, and the service was great from start to finish. I enjoyed a roast dinner with all the fixings - Yorkshire pudding, vegetables, roast potatoes with a glass of rosé. While there doesn't appear to be a dedicated kids' menu, there were options like mac and cheese and chicken tenders for the kiddos. The rest of our group had grilled chicken, fish pie, and a burger, and it seemed everyone was happy with their meals. Overall, I'd highly recommend Henry's Bay House for either lunch or dinner!
Julie B — Google review
We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch at Henry's Bay House. Food was frsh and tasty we enjoyed Soup and garlic mushrooms followed by roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. My daughter said her macaroni cheese was the best she had tasted. Price was reasonable and staff were very friendly and nothing was a problem for them.

Fig & Olive is a charming cafe that offers a fusion of flavors and cooking styles from various regions. Visitors praise the warm and relaxing atmosphere, as well as the attentive table service. The menu features continental influences with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, offering options like roasted mushrooms on sourdough, pork and fennel sausage rolls, and a variety of salads.
The Fig & Olive has a relaxed atmosphere. The menu has continental influences. Good food is prepared from fresh ingredients. I usually have a brunch selection from the menu. The crispy bacon on sourdough toast, Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine are all recommended. On one occasion Shakshuka, baked eggs in a tomato sauce, was a special. It was delicious.
Mark J — Google review
We stumbled upon Fig & Olive while looking for a spot to have breakfast before leaving Stranraer and what a find! The coffee was excellent, the breakfast dishes were delicious, and it had such a cozy ambiance. I loved the charming artwork on the walls and the steady stream of dogs that came in with their owners (yes, it is dog-friendly!) I ordered the chicken club sandwich, which was really nice - perfectly toasted multigrain bread filled with fresh grilled chicken, crispy bacon, and greens. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals and the service was pleasant. If you find yourself in Stranraer, I highly recommend Fig & Olive for breakfast/lunch!
Julie B — Google review
We stopped in for soup for lunch. The food and service were great but the place was full of flies. The pesky little things made it near impossible to savor the delicious soup and sourdough bread. How difficult is it to purchase a fly catcher like Zevo on Amazon and plug it in? It may seem harsh but sanitary conditions are a requirement to enjoy the good food served.
Mehmet K — Google review
Fantastic breakfast in this dog friendly cafe. I had poached egg on sourdough with bacon and it can’t recall a better one. Service was very friendly. Highly recommended 10/10

Lovely food and staff. Had to revisit the next day as it was that good. Best mocha I've ever had! (Had 3 over 2 days and all just as good as the last). If you get the chance it's a must visit.

We had a wonderful lunch today. The soup was delicious, mushroom toast was great, the bagel was immense and the children loved their cakes. It was a great find and we would surely come back again whe we are next in the area!
Laurence B — Google review
5 stars are not enough. Apple and parsnip soup, savoury tart and we had to have takeaway cake as we couldn't walk past them. Dog Friendly and well spaced tables. Staff aren't bad too ;-) Don't bother looking for anywhere else if visiting during the day.

Conveniently located right across from Tesco Express, this eatery is a gem for those with dietary restrictions, as they offer gluten-free options like their delicious cod and chips. The spacious venue boasts an extensive menu filled with tempting choices that cater to various tastes.
Good food, competitive prices and a passionate chef. Very happy with everything we got. Quick service with a smile after we found somewhere to eat late evening. Really pleased all round. Chilli chicken wrap was delicious.

Reading reviews I found this place and it was fantastic. We had a large breakfast for a good price. The table service was fantastic and the food really good. The restaurant is very big and also the menu with lots of choices. It is cash payment required. Situated in the town centre and easy to find.
Marta F — Google review
Currently staying in Stranraer on business. Needed something away from the hotel food (bloody expensive) and after exiting Tesco Express I saw this place right opposite. Having coeliac disease I need to be careful so I did highlight this to the chap behind the counter and he said he could make me a nice Gluten Free cod and chips. Sounded good to me so took a seat and waited for me grub. Called me up and took a stroll back to the hotel. Opened up and still red hot. The only negative thing I have got to say and the reason for 4 stars is it would have been better to have left the fish drain off for a couple of minutes and let the batter crisp up. The food itself was really good and the fish was full of flavour. I will be returning tomorrow evening for my last meal in Stranraer. Would definitely recommend this little gem. Place looked spotlessly clean and in a great location.
Lee — Google review
Food was delicious. My husband had an all day breakfast. I had a cheese and onion toastie. My two dogs had a sausage. Staff were attentive. I was visiting from Irvine. Would definitely recommend.
Jane S — Google review
Visited on Sunday 21st September 2025. The chips tasted like they'd been sitting there all day. Batter on the fish was the same. Won't be wasting money here again. Avoid. The food is minging.
Jaki — Google review
Tried this place today. I was really hungry and so fish and chips it was. When I walked into the chip shop no one was there and I stood for a good few minutes looking around thinking will someone come or should I go? After a few minutes I did notice a member of staff sat in a small room at the far back end of the shop and at last I caught her attention. I ordered one large fish and chips and one portion of chips. Asking you do take card I was told no it’s cash only even tho I could swear I saw a chip and pin card reader, but never mind I just about had enough cash with me. The service was ok, not great but just ok. The chips were a mixture of under cooked chips, hard and very dry chips to bad potato’s cooked anyway into disgusting looking chips with the odd few that were actually ok. The fish was NOT FRESH FISH at all, the batter was hard in fact I’d say really hard and the fish its self was just not very tasty at all. It had quite a not appealing taste. Certainly not my best fish and chips and quite close to hitting my top 3 of worse fish and chips. Needless to say I won’t be eating from here again.
GRUMPY F — Google review
I always enjoy this venue for a quick sit in fish and chips. Clean, basic cafe style eatery. Enjoyable food, we priced andvhave ebaioner specials. Can recommenð
Gail H — Google review
Bought cod & chips to take away, as their sign stated “Best fish & chips in Scotland”, how misleading! The chips were anemic & tasteless, the fish I assume had been cooked twice. The only consolation was I’d only paid £8.50 for my disappointment!

The coffee shop and restaurant, Coffee Roasters Dnisi, welcomed the customer warmly as they embarked on their solo journey along the UK coast path. With their trusty Big Agnes tent named Aggie and a large backpack in tow, the customer found the girls working there to be delightful. The establishment impressed with its excellent coffee, top-notch service, and fantastic location. It is highly recommended for anyone seeking a pleasant experience.
Friendly staff at the counter order and delicious coffee! We stopped by for lunch while waiting for the afternoon train to Glasgow. The place has such a cozy and comfortable feel to it. We both had a coffee each and some sandwiches and they were all very tasty! I wish I had yummy left for dessert because there are so many good looking pastries!

Stopped in for coffee and a cake after having a wee wander round Stranraer, the cake cabinet is a visual delight and made it hard to choose from all the yummy looking treats, we went with the New York Wheel, and a slice of lime on coconut cake. Both lived up to their visual appeal with great texture and flavour. Washed down with a Mocha Frappe, perfect pit stop. Staff were lovely and friendly too 🙂

I recently had food here with a friend before getting the boat home. They fitted us in at short notice without a booking, which was excellent. I had pizza and really enjoyed it. My friend had the spaghetti bolgonese and really enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and down to earth. Nicely decorated inside. I like the relaxed atmosphere of it. Very reasonably priced. Would definitely return next time. Highly recommended.

Highly recommended ✅👌🏻 Working in Stranraer recently and only came on the last night 😭 lovely food and friendly staff! Although they had a big birthday group in, we were kept informed about our order. Definitely worth the wait though! Saltimbocca with pork rather than veal was as good as I've had 🤌🏻 colleague had fillet of beef rigatoni and the meat was fantastic too! Grazie tutti 🙂 A presto 🙏🏻
Ross T — Google review
Good food but poor service. Constantly waiting for attention to get drinks, order placed etc. Does not appear to be a very cohesive system in place and no idea who was serving our table. A little staff training would go a long way to making this little spot great.

Sunkai Chinese Takeaway has truly made a remarkable impression on its customers, even those who haven't indulged in their offerings for years. Recently, one delighted patron revisited after two decades and was blown away by the fantastic flavors and exceptional value of their set meal for two. This experience not only rekindled an old love for Sunkai's cuisine but also highlighted it as a top choice in Stranraer and Cairnryan.
Just had a takeaway delivery from you guys and I have not eaten with you guys for the last 20 years but OMG fantastic food it was amazing , great value got the set meal for 2 outstanding guess you got an old customer back outstanding guys 👌
Paul R — Google review
Possibly the worst Chinese I’ve ever eaten, the egg fried rice was bland and the grains of rice were a hard texture. Ordered a garlic and chilli king prawn which was soggy battered prawns in a sweet and sour sauce. The aromatic duck has a strange flavour to it and the cucumber and spring onions looked as if they were out of date. The hoisin sauce was grainy and not a sauce as it had set on a plastic container. A shame really considering a lovely Chinese lady at front desk, shame the food didn’t match her nice personality. Wouldn’t return even if the food was free, awful is an understatement.
Jordan H — Google review
What a ghastly place. We went here after reading some reviews on Google but I have to say that I have not had such a bad meal in quite some time. It all started with the first impression when we entered the restaurant and didn't get a particularly warm welcome. We sat down and ordered the food. When it came is when things went down hill very quickly. We had ordered starters a d main course and we were surprised that the food arrived so quickly to be honest. My wife and myself had different dishes and the strange thing was that they tasted very similar (one was a sezchuan and the other in mandarin sauce). The hot and sour soup also had some disturbing similarities to the main dishes which was just frightening. The kids meals where presented in a cute way but clearly the pizza was a cheap pizza from the frozen section with some big standard fries. Nothing great but the kids ate it so that was ok. Both my wife and myself did not eat anything as even the egg fried rice was tasteless and without much flavour. When we were approached by the waitress the only comment was that Chinese here was cooked differently and probably not to our pallet. Nothing was offered and charged in full even though we did the have a y of the food. This definitely left a sour taste behind and for me sets a new standard in bad culinary experiences. I have travelled the world and have had chines in England, Wales, Scotland, different parts of the USA, Germany, France etc. And thus know the difference between interpretations of dishes around the world and also in the same country. I will go out on a limb and say that this was a packet sauce and definitely not home made. The basis must be the same across all dishes but at the very least the ones we had.
Andrew K — Google review
Just visiting from East coast. Pint of Best was really the best. Crispy noodles too crispy. Had similar dish at different Chinese and it wasn't that crispy it was actually chewable which here wasn't the case. Sauce tasteless. Not very welcoming atmosphere. I liked the schrimps and pint.
Tereza Č — Google review
Ordered beef bamboo shoots and water chestnuts with fried rice. Generous rice portion was well cooked but not seasoned enough. Plenty of bamboo shoots but prefer sliced as opposed to shredded. The distinct lack of water chestnut is quite frankly unacceptable. The gravy was okay and the beef was nice
Gerry P — Google review
I got a takeaway, and I have to say it was excellent, definitely the best I have had in Stranrear
Chris M — Google review
Best Chinese in Cairnryan by far, love having a takeaway from here 👍🏻
Evan W — Google review
Terrible! We only went here because Hong Kong City was closed for the summer, worst decision ever. When even chips taste bland you know you've got a problem. Special fried rice, was dry and tasteless. It had prawns in it which they'd failed to devein, the waste product was evident in all of them! The special chow mein had no taste and no sauce instead it was a pile of dry bean sprouts. Our worst Chinese meal ever. We will never go there again!

Guests rave about the exceptional burgers, particularly when topped with cheese and haggis, while other dishes like bruschetta and macaroni cheese also receive high praise. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between lively and cozy, making it ideal for families or casual outings.
What a great find when we came camping to Stranraer. Lovely friendly pub and dog friendly too. The food was AMAZING, I honestly think it’s the best burger I’ve had, I added cheese and haggis and it was exceptional. My husband had the bruschetta starter then the Mac cheese which was also brilliant. We’ll be back 🐾👍🏼

Unfortunately we went for the very first time today, and pizza was a big disappointment looks like not baked at all, even raw i would say. Taste not very good. Other side - customer service nice and polite - pizza served quick (now we know why...), restaurant decoration nice and clean. We saw "italian" and thought that will be nice place to eat but... not in this case.

Welcoming and friendly staff. Reasonable prices and great wine since they have both a pub and a restaurant. Genuine cuisine.

It was not amazing, it was just ok for that money. Our main courses were about £15-£15. We got some home made bread with butter, that was really nice. I think would have been better to choose a nice pizza or maybe pasta. The place is separeted, the front part was the bar and the back was the restaurant. We almost left the place as we went in the front door and it was overcrowded. But after we found the back door to the restaurant. Drink was ok. A bit loudy because of the bar. Toilettes were clean and ok. Staff was nice. We did not have a booking and we arrived there Saturday evening just around 8pm.

Excellent food and friendly staff. We arrived from the ferry and needed food. This restaurant was in a lovely location, it was spotlessly clean and the manager was so welcoming. We had a tasty meal with drinks. Delicious home made chicken curry and lasagne. I would recommend a visit.

I’m a little bit flipping back and forth about this review. We came here and asked for a table , getting one right away , we made our order. A large breakfast, Cup of tea, a cheese panini ,and a hot chocolate. Sitting and waiting we notice it’s a very clean and pleasant cafe, and quite popular too , by the looks of it. The staff, I say staff, it looked like the manager and her cook only , and the manager seemed to be running around a little bit chasing herself. Our drinks came and the tea was nice but I just did not get the cup to drink it in, no handle and it would be something I’d only expect at home. The hot Chocolate was luke warm and weak to say the least , but certainly not anywhere near hot. The food. The manager came to the table With the panini (which was in fact a baguette sliced open , maybe we thought that’s what they call a panini here?) but it was burnt , really burnt on the edges, in fact the manager herself even asked my partner if it was too burnt for her? Yes of course the response was. But come on if you are having to ask the customer if it’s too burnt, then surely you already know it’s burnt and should not be sent out to a customer! Later she came out with a fresh one ( by then I’d almost finished my breakfast) which had some cheese melted and some not so melted, but certainly not like a panini! The large breakfast The hash brown was really nice and the haggis was amazing, the egg was cooked perfectly and really good. The bacon was not that good ( I’m not sure if this was just my personal taste of bacon as it was smoked bacon,or certainly tasted smoked) and the sausage was really hard and chewy. Yes I ate it all, I was so hungry I’d have eaten anything. Not a lot of choice either , a very small amount of food for a breakfast. The price £22.05 for a large breakfast one panini that was not a panini a cup of tea and a hot chocolate. :-( I feel they’re trying hard to achieve something better than they are providing, it’s a shame as you can see they are really trying to do this but in my opinion it’s not there yet. Would I visit again? Sadly not as it is at the moment.

Visiting Stranraer for the day with grandkids, we needed something to eat & get out of the rain.. Saw the Driftwood restaurant, a lady pushed 2 tables together enough for 7 & our Goldie.. Very friendly Clean place, nothing was too much trouble, food was lovely, prices very good.. Would definitely recommend..

Stopped with out booking and we were in luck, they had a slot. Amazing service, lovely location and awesome food. I am a huge fan of 'diner' food, and their fully stacked burger was awesome! With a play park and some great grassy areas why would you not visit... Just remember to book!

This lovely Cafe in Agnew Park at Stranraer sea front is very popular with locals and with tourists passing through. Callum is the chef and his wife Magda runs the Cafe/Bistro. It is affordable and very good quality food here, with a Meat or a Vegetarian menu available and some gluten free options. Or you can just opt for a coffee and a cake or scone. Lots of customers outside when we visited, with bikes and dogs welcome. Huge car park nearby and public toilets.

Fish and chips takeaway
Nestled in the heart of the UK, The Central Cafe is a delightful spot that has garnered quite a reputation for its scrumptious fish and chips. While I initially aimed to indulge in their famous scampi, I opted for the classic fish and chips instead. Despite a busy day leading to slightly undercooked batter, the lightness of it paired with generously sized fish made up for any minor hiccups. The chips were simply fabulous!
Good fish and chips. Haggis supper not too greasy (so no food hangover) and tasted great. A good stop off to and from the ferry. No toilets though, so go to the big supermarket for that! Free parking 200m away on the shoreline.

The Fish & Chips at the Central Cafe are a delightful experience that truly embodies the essence of this classic dish. The batter is perfectly crispy, encasing tender and flaky fish that melts in your mouth. The chips are golden and fluffy, providing the ideal balance to the meal. What sets this cafe apart is its cozy atmosphere and friendly service, making it a go-to spot for a satisfying meal. Whether you're a local or just passing through, the Central Cafe's take on fish and chips is definitely worth a try!

Excellent fish supper. All freshly fried. Crispy batter on the fish & lovely crispy chips. The cafe was airy & very clean. The young lady that served us was helpful & friendly. One of the best chip shops I've been to in a long time.
Graham C — Google review
Went for scampi, but it was out of stock. So had fish and chips instead. We all found that the batter was slightly undercooked, and there was a lot of oil left on it. However, it was a very busy day, so we appreciate that they were in a rush to get everyone's meals to them. I wouldn't have minded waiting a few more minutes for the oil to drip off the fish. The batter here is really nice. It's light and thin, and the fish are generously proportioned. And the chips are fabulous.

Needed a good plate of fish and chips, so we popped in to see and wow fantastic FRESH fish with lovely perfect chips. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and you can tell it has a good reputation, buy the number of locals that use it for their supper !!

Always so happy with the beautiful fish and chips from The Central Café. This time we tried delivery. It all arrived very hot, exactly right and delivered by a friendly man. Couldn't ask for more. My portion was Gluten-free because I'm a coeliac and it was absolutely perfect. Love this place and the staff are fab.

Nestled in the heart of Stranraer, Alexandra Coffee Shop may not catch your eye from the street, but it’s a hidden gem worth discovering. This charming café offers an enticing array of freshly made dishes, including mouthwatering open pies—many vegetarian options available! I indulged in a delightful mushroom, chestnut, and blue cheese pie paired with a fresh salad that was so good I couldn’t resist taking more home for dinner.
Loved the sausage roll so much got another one to go!!

Lovely little coffee shop. It doesn't stand out from the street, but it's a real find. The food on display all looks really appetising. There was a selection of freshly made open pies on display and we were happy to find out that several were vegetarian. We chose the mushroom, chestnut and blue cheese pie with salad. It was absolutely delicious. So much so, that we bought another two to takeaway for our evening meal. The cakes all look good as well and we were hard pressed to choose between them, but settled on a strawberry tart and a slice of custard cream cake. They were good choices. Service was good and the staff were friendly, the owner telling us how she'd taken it over running it at the beginning of the year. Good luck for the future and if we are in Stranraer again we will be back.

Lovely spot on the main street but quiet. Plenty parking nearby. Cafe has a good choice of food at a reasonable price. I like my latte hot, and they obliged. Felling a little hungry we visited here. It was packed with what I think was an old lady’s group and boy it was loud and you could Not concentrate with the noise. The staff weee fantastic and the service was first class. Very friendly and jolly staff. I always like it when the staff are naturally happy and it’s not put on for the customers. The food was ok, I would not say it’s anything to shout about but it’s good and I had no cause to complain.

We visited the coffee bean for breakfast this morning and I’m pleased to report that it was delicious. The service from our waitress (Megan) was second to none, she was so polite and friendly and made us feel so very welcome. The Scottish breakfast was amazing and the coffee was fantastic too. We highly recommend 👍

I really like to write a good review but we were quite disappointed with our breakfast because it was not good at all. For the price, it wasn't enough food on the plate and what it was, it wasn't fresh... The sausage, the bread, no baked beans and a big plate that make the breakfast small. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with Halloween and the staff is very friendly and served the clients with a smile, they clear the tables quickly but need love and top up salt and pepper dispensers, swipe the entrance and keep an eye to small details. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for breakfast having other places near by much better in price, quality and quantity. The WiFi wasn't working either...
Marta F — Google review
I had a cappuccino with oat and a vegetarian pizza. The cappuccino tasted very watery, maybe because they don't use barista milk. The pizza seemed not to have tomato sauce and the vegetables tasted raw. The dough was very bready underbaked. My partner's egg and avocado toast could have been crispier and the avocado was warm, as if put in the microwave. The staff was very friendly.

Nice little pub. Made welcome with the dogs. Ordered the burger and added the cartel dirty fries. Wow so much food. The Ivy Leaf Fish and Chicken Bar is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious meal without the hassle of cooking, especially on special occasions like birthday teas. Diners rave about their freshly prepared dishes, which include home-cut chips, fish, chicken, sausages, and onion rings. Many have praised the quality of their takeaways—like the Haddock Goujon supper and chicken goujons—highlighting that they are not only fresh but also free from grease.
Tonight(11.02.25)we got a wee delivery of Haddock Goujon supper, Single Chicken Goujons, Onion Rings and dips......I've had before and never been let down but I think I could easily say, that it was one of, if not, The Best Takeaways ive ever had....fresh made, not a spot of grease, value for money, quality packaging and friendliest delivery service..... I recommend it 100% and I don't do that often but I'm confident in the staff at Ivy Leaf to produce this over and over....Thank you Ivy Leaf .....ONCE AGAIN.xx

Like others, had to wait for food (20mins+) which you don’t mind as you know it’s fresh. But could ring the fish of oil and chips were really crispy on outside and wet and oily inside. Cooked in rapeseed oil and fish tasted strongly of it too. Take the time with the order, fine - but make sure it’s better quality when it comes!
Stephen H — Google review
Seen sign saying what potatoes they use and where fish is from even as far as telling you they use rapeseed oil. All great until they give you the tiny bit if fish in a pale and not crispy at all batter. Ive travelled to many chippy's and have to say so far thats worse batter ive seen. Only thing I would give a positive was the taste of the chips.
Kieran T — Google review
Having enjoyed many a supper over the years, our last visit was not as expected. 5.10pm and the serving window had plenty of fish which looked good. Paid £10.60 and fully expected it to be wrapped up. Nope - the fryer after touching the fish put every single piece back into the fryer??? Refrying fish not only dries the fish out, but it also harbors foodborne bacteria! Fryer (wearing a bandana) saw fit to fob us off. By saying did we know what a biscotte was. My husband over the years owned chip shops, so yes a biscotte is a Biscuit. Not a batter. And 'if' he meant bisquick batter, again.....still no reason to overcook the fish! And NO, no decent fryer would refry fish period!! Not liking being called out when questioned on his improper frying, he BARRED US LOL. Enjoyed a freshly cooked fish supper from the Central Cafe just a 2 min walk away. True Italians.

Istanbul Pizza & Kebab House is a must-visit spot in Stranraer, especially for those craving delicious Turkish cuisine. Many travelers have enjoyed their meals here, with highlights including the mixed kebab special that offers a hearty meat feast and flavorful dishes like shish kebabs. While some customers experienced longer wait times, the friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere make it worth it. The restaurant's cleanliness and good service further enhance its reputation as one of the best dining options in town.
Best food in the town and cleanest. The staff are really friendly , good service well recommended.

Terrible service, they get food wrong and when contacted they turn it around on the customer saying it’s not wrong and not willing to change it. Disgusting service on the phone giving abuse towards to the people communicating with them. Geez ohh, ordered mixed kebab special, got an absolute meat feast. Enjoyed it which you normally can't say about carry out food in Stranraer. Chilli sauce left a bit to be desired but otherwise highly recommended. 2days later ordered same, much more Donner meat this time sadly but Pakora sauce rather than chilli was a very good move. Marked down one star for too much Donner meat. Shop was busy which tells its own story. 3rd visit Shish Kebab, loved it. Back to 5 stars 4th visit they got the order wrong, probably as it was so busy, drops a star. When it's busy they do get orders wrong!! I am being picky, best kebab shop in UK deserves 5 stars. Well done gals and guys

I ordered a lamb doner, with all salad and only garlic mayonnaise and an order of vegetable pakora - after waiting 20 minutes confirming my order 3 times i got home to discover pakora been in the oil too long and was burnt - the doner box was full of doner meat and an uncut pita sitting on top - no salad at all and a little pot of mayo in the bag - very disappointing i will never be near this shop again

During my holiday in Stranraer, I had the pleasure of dining at Morrisons Cafe on two occasions, and each visit was a delightful experience! The vegan and vegetarian breakfast options were not only freshly prepared but also bursting with flavor. Pairing that with their excellent coffee made for a perfect morning ritual. The staff exuded warmth and friendliness, creating an inviting atmosphere that felt like home.

My husband and I thought it’d be nice to ‘pop’ in for breakfast before picking our click and collect up, what a disappointment! We had to wait 35mins for our food to arrive, no apology was made for the wait just a ‘good job you get free refills eh?’ The food delivered was what we ordered BUT some of it was inedible - I had ordered a link sausage which cost an extra £1.20 and was burnt and full of grissle, the bacon as my husband said ‘you could of used to hammer nails in the wall’, the mushrooms were stone cold, the fried bread was nice but I had to eat it with my hands cos I couldn’t get my fork into it. There were people in front of us that had to ask for their food in take away boxes because they’d waited so long. The staff were friendly enough considering how busy they were, we blame Morrisons for not staffing the cafe sufficiently!
Julie M — Google review
This without a doubt is the worst eating experience we have ever had. Ordered 2 full Scottish breakfasts and pot of tea. £18. Due to the fact that we added black pudding a £1.75 a slice. Breakfast came reasonably quickly but it was disgusting. Every thing seems to have been dumped in a deep fat fryer. Fried egg was hard bacon was cold sausages were nearly back. It was just bad. This is an insult to what we call the full Scottish breakfast. This was fit for pigs. Never again will I eat at a morrisons food cafe.

Over priced, small portions. Price on menu was different to what they tried to charge on the computer screen. Clean, tidy, food was tasty enough, friendly staff. But bigger portions would have been in line with what they were charging.

Visited Morrisons Restaurant Stranraer September 2022 . Food was fine & reasonably priced. Loses two stars for the rather fierce little lady who served us & hovered over the restaurant like a hawk (Was told by a waitress that she was the manager!) Innocently went to use the coffee machine to top up but was sternly told off by the manager that top ups were not allowed ! She snatched the cup from my hand and stormed off like a demented cat ! The waitress commented that she was always that rude ! The same lady then gave off to one of our party at another table about coffee top ups not being allowed and mumbled something else under her breath as she scurried away! ( Perhaps she was just having a bad day) I certainly would not have this lady working with the public, she clearly needs training with regards customer service! It was actually quite amusing in the end, it was like a bad cafe comedy sketch !

As a kebab eater of almost 40 years standing when kebab shops were limited to one or two in a big city I have tasted and tried many down the years. I look for tasty spiced meats and fresh breads served with suitable sauces and salad. At times I have despaired of the diminishing quality of these finest of fast food snacks. Kismet kebab house offered me hope and joy in equal measure. Their freshly cooked chicken and donner is some of the best I've had in a long long time. I realised id settled for less in inferior establishments but Kismet restored my faith that somebody here wants to provide for their customers a true kebab experience. Not just to fill a gap in your tummy but to really transport you to kebab shop heaven. Thank you Kismet. When I think of great kebab shops I'll think of you

Kismat Kebab House is a standout for its amazing smashed burgers and German Doner! I recently visited Stranrear and was looking for Halal food options , i was thrilled to find sucha great place that caters to it.The smashed burgers are perfectly crispy and full of flavour, and their German Doner is a must-try –The service was efficient, and the prices are very reasonable. Was a regular customer a while ago but after issues started using an alternative . Came back to using Kismet again recently only to find still has issues. Twice in a row now after placing online orders with a specified delivery time my orders have been late by 30+ minutes. Called shop to be told order left ages ago so trying to put blame on delivery driver when in fact this was not the case as delivery driver is a friend. The customer service on phone is terrible, no empathy or apology offered and when informed that I was now cancelling the order just a " so what " " don`t care " response. Will not be using them in future because they obviously care more about profit than customer service. My suggestion to you is that if you make an order for delivery, ask and make sure they will deliver as per your chosen time or pick another shop.

Good food and coffee served by friendly staff. Nice and warm in seating area which was very welcome on a cold December day. Hard to rate the atmosphere as it's essentially a take away.

The young girl that served me, wasn't exactly paying attention, she put 2 scoops of steak on my foot long it bearly covered the roll I got red onion and mayo on it,it was £8 with a cup drink.. I was absolutely gob smacked..the other girl that was serving made my mum the same roll and what a difference in the filling.. It was worth every penny of the £8

Cafe
Nestled along the A77, The Bunker Snack Bar is a must-visit for travelers seeking a cozy spot to refuel. This charming eatery offers an impressive array of traditional Scottish breakfast options, including the beloved tattie bread and haggis. With its welcoming staff and picturesque views of Ryan Bay, it’s perfect for enjoying a leisurely coffee or grabbing something delicious to go.
We visited here for the second time in April 2018. We found out the business has changed owners since our previous visit. Happily the service, quality of food and prices are still as good as before. The Bunker is a lovely little place just outside of Stranraer on the A77. We had a great breakfast including tattie bread and haggis, which were delicious. Staff were very friendly and cheerful. They do eat in or takeaway. Popular with locals. There's a big lay-by there with calming views out across Ryan Bay. Very good value for money. We'd definitely recommend it and would love to eat here again.

What a wonderful experience!! Absolutely delicious food, delightful people and wonderful views across the ocean whilst destressing from getting the van ready for the ferry crossing. The haggis my first one thanks to the happy people who run the place was delicious. Thank you for a great memory!

Great wee place staff were very friendly. We were out a run on the bikes ordered some food. We didn’t think there was a place to eat inside. But we were asked if we wanted to eat inside, don’t get me wrong there was only two tables with two seats, but we didn’t think there was any and we were prepared to sit outside as the views were great. If it was busy and good weather you’d not want to eat inside as the views from the tables were great, even binoculars to do a bit of birdwatching. Would recommend big breakfast a must

I was just reminiscing about the breakfast that I had that this cafe probably about five or six years ago and I wondered if it was still there. Which of course it obviously is I'm sure this is the first place I'll ever had square flat sausages and I was talked into trying the haggis which I really enjoyed I'm glad you're still open and you're still serving your lovely food and if I'm ever up that way again 100% I'm gonna come in and have one of your wonderful breakfast again.

Nestled in a charming locale, The Arkhouse Inn is a delightful find that stands out even when other establishments close for the off-season. While its exterior may appear weathered and the interior slightly worn, don’t let that deter you! This hidden gem boasts an inviting atmosphere complemented by friendly service. Diners rave about the generous portions and delectable dishes; from juicy chicken burgers to flavorful beef options served on rustic chopping boards, every meal is crafted with care.
We went here due to previous reviews, and we were so happy we did. The food was amazing. Very big portions, got to take a goodie box home. The 3 for £15 is a great deal, I think my son received 12 chicken wings, which for a smaller portion is amazing. The service was great also. Yes, the inside does look tired and dated, but please don't let that put you off. We would definitely return if visiting this area again. Can't comment on rooms as we didn't stay.

Stopped in here for a late evening meal waiting on the boat back home as it was one of the few places that was open at the time we would be coming through. Had looked at the reviews and photos and the food looked great. Well I can say the food was absolutely fantastic, we got 2 chicken Burgers and 2 beef Burgers and every meal was served on a chopping board with good sauces. Chicken was really juicy and the batter was crispy, the beef burger was bursting with flavour. If I'm ever coming past again on another trip i will 100% be stopping in here again.

We were also guilty of judging a book by its cover. The reviews said it was amazing food and they were right. From the outside, it does look old and run down, inside is a little tired too but the service was brilliant and the food even more so. The 3 of us had 2 drinks each, a main and dessert (only 2 desserts as I was full) for under £60. The portions were big and the chips were homemade. We will definitely come again whilst we're here visiting the area. It's definitely a hidden gem!!!

Terrible service. People walked out and waited far too long to get drinks or order for food taken. Food was average for pub food but the lack of service and awareness will mean we will never return. Spend your money elsewhere unless you are happy to wait for ages

Recent first visit. Staff got order wrong. Rushed by staff member. Dour staff. Overpriced. Chips awful. Salad nowhere to be seen. No bread roll with soup of the day despite being on menu. Vegan restaurant
Fast food restaurant
Temple of Seitan is a popular vegan fast food joint located in Hackney, with additional branches across London. It has gained a loyal following for its vegan fried chicken and burgers made with seitan, a wheat-based meat substitute. Despite being completely vegan, the food looks remarkably similar to traditional fried chicken. The contemporary takeout locale has become known for its buzzy atmosphere and long queues of customers eager to try their finger-lickin' good vegan offerings.
Fully vegan restaurant. Really enjoyed the temple burger and tater tots and the vanilla milkshake was really good! You order yourself via a touchscreen, entering your table number in, and then they bring your order to the table (I think it’s possible they also have an option to order with someone if you prefer or need this option). Service was quick and food was really good. Would recommend and would eat here again. There is a good amount of indoor seating and some outdoor seating.

Temple of Seitan has a great atmosphere with friendly staff. The music is at a perfect volume, making it a peaceful place to eat. I ordered the strips with fries—while I didn’t love the texture or taste, it was still decent. Overall, it’s a nice spot for a relaxing meal.

I’ve been to Temple of Seitan a couple of times and I absolutely love their buffalo chicken wings. Also their burgers are amazing of course. This is a place I would always go back to. You place the order yourself and in a very short time you get it delivered to your table. Fast, not too expensive and delicious.

Very very nice food, just quite small portions for the price, but this won’t stop me from coming back again. 1 star for atmosphere as there was a very grating loud high pitched buzzing the whole time we were there, but luckily we were getting food to take away and hopefully this won’t be present at our next visit.

The Craignelder Hotel is a traditional Scottish hotel with a relaxed and informal atmosphere. It has classic Scottish dishes on its menu, as well as guestrooms with free hot breakfast. It's perfect for enjoying a relaxing evening out with friends.
We stayed two nights in March and found the Craignelder very pleasant , very relaxing and very welcoming. We had arranged to eat out so did not try the restaurant, however if the breakfasts are any guide then the restaurant would be better than good. A very nice place to stay and a first class host.

This hotel is beautiful. All the staff were so lovely and the check in process was easy. The room itself was spacious and very well put together. The best part were the beds! I have never stayed in a hotel with a bed I didn't want to get out of in the morning. They were so soft and comfy , I even took a picture of the make of the mattress topper and pillow it was that cosy. The cleaning standard of the room are incredibly high too and just overall a beautiful hotel. The breakfast was simple but everything tasted beautiful. I would definitely not hesitate to book again. Also the view out front of the hotel add to how beautiful and relaxing this hotel is.

Very friendly staff and a beautifully clean and tidy hotel with superb food, I'd highly recommend seafood pancake. I foolishly left my car window open when I went into town on my last day and when it started raining the staff noticed and shot into action with bin bag and towels to spare me a wet seat for my very long journey home. Couldn't thank them enough. Even sent me home with a towel to sit on, amazing! Typical of the lovely people of Stranraer.

Went in to the clashwhannon as was recommended dog friendly. Walked in and shown to table. Lady advised dogs are usually over other end of pub, however we were place next to a older couple. My pug was really behaved especially as other dogs were Barking. When the couple next to us left they walked up up to me and my husband and was so rude. Basically called dog a disgrace . I went out and advised her she was out of order and if she had a problem she could have said. Owner of pub also was involved. At first he was rude also and then asked us to stay after he realised what what had went on he apologised and asked us to stay and enjoy food and drink. This was after the couple had left. Please do not visit this place with dogs as u will be be made to feel like a leper!! Total waste of money ! The way I was made to feel was embarrassing and not good customer service

Usually this place is amazing With super friendly staff and a great atmosphere. But unfortunately our last visit was not like that. The lady who served us (not the owner) was so miserable. Didn't even acknowledge us when waiting at the bar for 10 mins waiting to see if there was a free table. When she finally came over she was very grumpy and not at all accomodating. If it wasn't for the fact that the young girl who brought us our food was so pleasant and helpful and great with my daughter's I would have only given a 1 star rating.

Friendly staff. Meal was fine. Handy being able to sit outside with the dogs. Unfortunately they let themselves down with the 2 takeaway fish and chips 2 days later. Batter soft and gooey and along with the fish, dripping in fat.

Hong Kong City is a pleasant surprise for spontaneous dining. The Carbonara is described as the best, and the servers are attentive and lovely. While it may be pricier than other options, the food consistently delivers in taste. The mixed starter for 4 was enjoyed by a family with kids, who also loved the main dishes and desserts. The staff are friendly, and the service is efficient whether dining in or ordering takeaway. Overall, it's a place to enjoy good food and friendly service.
Missed the ferry and found the Hong Kong City great food and friendly staff. Made missing the boat a lot more bearable. My kids 8 and 9 were both very happy with the food and atmosphere.

Went for a meal tonight was lovely but had a little too much asked for a Doggie bag and ate some for my supper was still tasty cold 😁. Will be back as staff so friendly and welcoming

Loved it absolutely loved it Took my family last weekend and was really happy with the experience. The young girl who served us had an amazing personality and was bubbly and fun had us all laughing (even my son who was a little anxious). The food was delicious but/and was a huge potion to what we get in England. (It not a dog at all but noticed up here u get alot more food for your buck) I got orange chicken and doggy bagged half of it and U know was even better next time around. Was really impressed with how they dealt with my doggy bag request (I have gastro issues so never finish a meal ) and how understanding they were. Also was such lovely decor the Chinese dragons where a nice touch. Will be defo going again and probably will become our local Chinese!

Veg pakora 2 flat ones arrived very dry and tasteless. I ordered chicken Bhuna no tomatoes big chunky peppers was not what I ordered. Naan bread garlic very bland. Would bypass this one.

Food was microwaved and tasted like a poor supermarket ready meal. I was charged £6 for 2 pappadums and chutney! Stupidly I’ve only just realized now back at hotel. I went alone, on a work trip, in need of food on a Monday night , should have had a pot noodle I would have enjoyed it more

Food and drink
De Lightful is a Chinese takeout restaurant that offers exceptional cuisine, rivaling the best I've had since my last visit to Hayling. The food is of excellent quality, striking a perfect balance of flavors without being overly salty. It's so delectable that my dining companion and I couldn't resist treating ourselves to another meal from there! The staff at De Lightful are extremely friendly and accommodating. It's truly disappointing that they don't offer delivery services to Reading.
How can I begin to describe the positive atmosphere this fine restaurant radiates? I’ll tell you how my experience has been and hopefully you’ll fall as in love with this magnificent place just like me and my family! To begin with, I walked in, greeted passionately and politely, tastebuds in desperation for some delicious, cultural and money worthy food, gazed upon the menu and my eyes were in awe, the range of magnificent meals to feed my hunger was endless. Whilst waiting for my food the lady over the counter was, polite, chatty and friendly and overall an amazing front of house staff! This well mannered lady made me feel content and comfortable in this amazing atmosphere. Lastly, the food, the aroma, the taste, it was fabulous! The kids loved it! I loved it! We were latched, once finished; all we wanted was more. So if your debating Delightful Dynasty as your takeaway, stop, think no more, you’ve made the right choice.

Wow wow WOW. What a thrilling experience. Today I decided to embark on a journey to the world famous Chinese that goes by the name of delightful dynasty and what a rollercoaster! As I gracefully stepped into the temple I was overwhelmed with culture as delectable aromas invaded my little nostrils. I shimmied my way over to the counter to make my selection and I was not disappointed. The selection of nutritional meals was overwhelming I had no choice to order half the menu. And might I just add the counter girl was delightful and so polite she made me feel so at home . The fest was in my little grubby hands within 15 minutes can you believe it ! I make my way back to my vehicle and inhale every last drop. Each flavour exploded in my mouth it was a surreal experience! 10000% RECOMMEND XX

Given the benefit of the doubt due to previous excellent service from the West town restaurant. Regular mistakes with orders and tonight’s order was delayed twice with eventual no show of any food. Such a shame.
Lisa — Google review
I would avoid this place like the plague, we tried everything we bought prawn toast, garlic and chilli ribs, pancake rolls, mixed platter for 2, and chicken satay on skewers, came to £38, pancake rolls were cold with soggy batter, prawn toast was dry and tastless, chicken on tha satay was dry, it all went in the bin, what a waste of money,
Karl C — Google review
We used to use the Delightful in West Town which has always been fantastic. This has since closed and the management which owned both Delightful and Dynasty now rebranded this one in Southwood Road to De Lightful Dynasty. Tried it out a couple of weeks ago with our usual order. First thing I noticed is prices of some dishes have gone up.... and not by just a few pennies either. £5.60 for a Beef Chow Mein at Delightful West Town is now £7.00 at De Lightful Dynasty. Secondly the portion sizes is reduced. You used to get a full deep container and now it was barely 2/3 full. Thirdly and the most important in my opinion is how it tasted. In my opinion it wasn't great. The quality of the meat was poor compared to usual standards and didn't really taste of anything. Infact nothing we ordered tasted particularly great. There were leftovers hanging around in our fridge for days which went uneaten and ended up being thrown out. That simply doesn't happen in our house. So all things considered it was disappointing. Same management present from the old Delightful in West Town but not sure about the cooks and whether that's a regular Dynasty thing. I'll probably give them another go later in the year on a quiet midweek to see if that has any baring on the quality/quantity (we'd ordered for a Saturday and as expected it was very busy).

We ordered a meal from them on the 10TH it arrived 45 minutes late because the delivery drive could not find us . (We live on the main road ) When the food finally arrived it was cold the manager at the shop offered me a free item next time we order food that is not going to happen

Love the coated chicken fillet served in a chili and garlic sauce with veg, accompanied with rice or noodles is a delicious dish! And the set meals for 1 feed for 2 days! to get it delivered is a bonus. Lovely friendly staff . Thankyou
Sarah B — Google review
Firstly, the people who work there are really nice and friendly and are very considerate of the customers. On my order I wanted certain requirements and they were able to fit my needs with customer satisfaction. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS! The chefs must do a superb job in the kitchen because this was the best Chinese take away I have ever had. The duck pancakes were finger licking good, with the chicken fried rice and beef in satay sauce being off another planet! Absolute wonderful food! Even the chips and curry sauce were mouth watering in flavour! 110% would recommend this place! Great food with a great price!

If you're in Stranraer and craving a delicious pizza, look no further than Domino's Pizza - Stranraer. This charming spot has been a favorite for many locals since its opening, thanks to the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the staff. Even though Aimee, the manager who was particularly beloved by regulars, has moved on to manage other locations, her legacy of excellent service continues with the friendly team still present.
We walked into the store unsure of what we would like exactly. The staff member was patient, polite and happy to help with our choices. He made us feel very welcome. A great branch for good customer service.

Not much to say apart from shocking Staff was only 2 in and was stood waiting to be served for ages Told him I can’t have any sort of peppers as I am highly allergic Came home opened it and there was a pepper on my garlic bread side pizza Went back told him he was rude wanted me to wait another 30 mins to remake it! No chance shocking place for what it costs won’t be back again.

I have been coming here since it opened. I am a favourite regular. Good service and always made feel welcome, especially by Aimee the manager. Unfortunately she's away managing other stores now but staff are still nice and friendly.

Rustique is a charming and welcoming restaurant with a warm atmosphere and friendly staff. It's also dog-friendly, making it perfect for pet owners. The place is clean, and the food is delicious with a great selection of dishes, drinks, and coffees. Customers have enjoyed various meals such as shredded chicken wrap, spicy chicken burger, breakfast options, soup, Cajun chicken sandwich, and children's meals. The staff is cheerful and accommodating.
What a gorgeous restaurant!! Warm and welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff couldn't do enough for us & dog friendly which meant we didn't have to leave our puppy home alone. The place was spotless, food was beautiful, I had the shredded chicken wrap which came with fries, lovely fresh salad and coleslaw, my partner had the spicy chicken burger and loved it. Great selection of food, drinks and coffees. We'll definitely be back!

Glad has reopened and love the shabby chic style they have adopted only issue I would say is get your tablecloths ironed to finish the look. Food and Drink were very good indeed and slight issues were corrected without problem. Could not do more to keep the punters happy I think!

Went with my friend for lunch mine was nice enough but sadly my friend did not eat her curry as it was far too nippy as I myself tried it but she had previously been before and had the curry which she enjoyed thinking it would be just as nice it certainly wasn't there must be consistency in the food and there wasn't need to up your game not everyone wants a nippy curry
