Bakery
When exploring the culinary delights of Cornwall, one cannot overlook Cornish Premier Pasties Ltd. This establishment has become synonymous with the region's famed pasties, which have surged in popularity beyond their traditional roots. No longer just a miner's meal, these savory pastries are now a staple found in shops across the UK. Visitors and locals alike rave about the delicious offerings at Cornish Premier Pasties Ltd.
Amazing! We've just finished our Cornish pasties (traditional steak, lamb & mint) and sausage rolls and really enjoyed them. We're on our way home from holiday and wanted to find a Cornish pasty en route, as we'd tried one in St Ives that was really disappointing. This bakery was a fantastic find! Great food, great service, parking right outside.

Excellent locally made pasties and they do a frozen set to take home too. Well worth a visit
Vin C — Google review
What an absolute pleasure, nay privilege it is to have Premier Pasty on my doorstep! Amazing quality food for such a beautifully reasonable price! Always served with a smile especially from the amazing Sally and Scott! Definitely a must visit if your local. Big up this amazing Cornish business 👏
William W — Google review
Excellent place to grab a decent pasty and other hot food at excellent value. A wide selection of pasties fresh from the oven. Also have salad options and get your own baps made while you wait. Can also get cake / treats and frozen pasties for a excellent prices.
Tom M — Google review
The new shop is excellent, there's so much choice here! The lunch options are seemingly endless. The staff are always delightful, the food is excellent, especially the jacket potatoes! Value for money is an understatement! This is a place I'll always stop off at when I'm passing.it would be dangerous if I lived closer, I'd be here every day!
Ashley H — Google review
The food at premier is very good, their pasties are a decent 7/10 and a good cake selection. I will say that their school cake needs some work but the real gem of premier is the staff. I was served by Chloe and she made my overall experience a positive one. Highly recommend her for a raise. Maybe a supervisor role at least. Will be back again.
Andrew C — Google review
Have recently placed 2 large orders here They have both been ready on time Of excellent quality and well packed for travelling Staff polite friendly and very helpful

Loved this place! They offer both cooked and uncooked frozen pasties to take home, and the cakes were absolutely lovely. A great spot for a treat.

During my recent travels, I stumbled upon Sun House, a delightful eatery that left quite an impression. Nestled near Retallack Resort, this spot offers freshly cooked meals right before your eyes, showcasing the culinary skills of its friendly staff. While parking can be a bit tricky due to narrow streets—though there are nearby car parks—it’s worth the effort for the delicious food.
Freshly cooked in front of you, friendly staff and reasonably priced excellent (very tasty) food
Geoff H — Google review
Chose Sun house as it's close to Retallack Resort. Managed to get a parking space in market place opposite Co op as parking is difficult. They only accept cash but there is an ATM outside Co-op, The food we had was tasty and still hot on returning to Retallack. So all good.
R A — Google review
Picked up a collection during a holiday stay in St Columb, difficult to park most days but there are two car parks in walking distance from the takeaway. Phoned ahead and was ready within 10 minutes. We had the Kung Po King Prawn and Egg Fried Rice, can't fault either: very good. Restaurant is dated and a little dilapidated, but can't fault the food.
Martin S — Google review
We found Sun House whilst heading back to our chalet. Great food, cooked in front of you, friendly staff and reasonably priced. I definitely recommend.
Emma — Google review
At time of review Sun House has a 5 food hygiene rating which is very reassuring, when collecting my food I noticed the kitchen is on full display to customers which is again very reassuring they have nothing to hide. The food was piping hot and very tasty, also very good portions.
Will D — Google review
Really friendly owners. The food was also so delicious.

Very good tasting food and friendly service.

Quite literally the worst food that I’ve experienced in my life. Fried chicken? More like slimy snails. Bland and disgusting. The fried bread, my mistake “prawn toast” were asif they’d been in the bottom of the fryer since yesterday morning. Satay chicken? My dog has had better consistency in his wee. Absolute joke. The duck however, on the upper hand was plain and boring but somehow the best dish on my plate. I honestly wouldn’t buy this for a homeless man on the street as it’s not fair on them.

Bakery
The bakery, known as The Butchers Bakehouse in St. Columb Major, offers an impressive selection of fresh and exquisite croissants. These croissants are perfectly baked, boasting a crispy exterior and a delightful buttery texture inside. Moreover, the bakery is renowned for its wide range of delectable baked goods that stand out from the usual flavors found elsewhere. The cakes offered here are refreshingly unique and incredibly delicious. Additionally, the coffee served at this establishment is exceptional.
Popped in while cycling from Land's End to Tiverton. I enquired about any vegan food options and although there weren't any, the kind lady offered to make me a sandwich filled with hummus/red pepper etc. delicious!
Robin G — Google review
We got to A LOT of bakeries but my god, the pastries at this one are insane. They look incredible and taste even better. Couldn’t recommend this place anymore. So good we now have to buy some to eat straight away and some more to go!
James B — Google review
Brilliant spot. Multiple visits for pastries in my latest week staying in St Column - the croissants were unbelievable - absolutely worth a stop. The bread looks great and as good as any serious artisan bakery Nationwide. This review is slightly delayed but we also tried their pizza night on a Friday and I was incredibly impressed - the dough tasted brilliant, excellent ferment on it so it was soft, chewy and went down super easy. Toppings were of very high quality - some fun combinations but working from an excellent base-standard. I hope they do very well.
Max D — Google review
Some of the best pastries I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot). Went here at least 3 times in a week and wish we had been able to go more! Daily struggle of what to choose was our biggest issue. Cinammon bun and vanilla bun were incredible and excellent value for money (pretty large!). The perfect balance of soft dough, crunchy outside, sweet balanced with butter content and all round delicious . Other pastries (croissant based) were well laminated and also tasty. Doughnuts were decent but the pastries were the highlight. Sourdough breads also really good. They supply local cafes so easy to find their goods elsewhere. Friendly service. Dog friendly. Highly recommended.
Adele H — Google review
The best sourdough and pastries I’ve had in my life, seriously. Such a lovely little place!
EB — Google review
This is well worth a breakfast trip, even if out of your way. Small shop in a cute little village Very nice coffee and delicious pastries. Very friendly staff also. We took a way a sourdough loaf, which was the best I have ever eaten. Dog friendly too.

A quaint locally run bakery with banging food and a great vibe! I couldn't help going back everyday after I got my first taste! Best cookie I've had in my life and I've eaten a lot of cookies!

If you're in the mood for a delightful fish and chips experience, look no further than Westlakes. This charming takeaway spot has been serving up freshly cooked meals that are simply irresistible. Despite its unassuming entrance, the quality of food speaks volumes. The fish is expertly prepared to order, ensuring it's always moist and flavorful, while the chips are consistently praised as some of the best around.
Very good fish and chips at this place. Friendly gentleman behind the counter. Freshly cooked while you wait. Beautifully cooked and very tasty. Good portions. It’s cash only but a few steps down the road is a cash machine outside the Co op store. Good prices. Would recommend.
Alison H — Google review
Just had the best ever fish and chips from Westlakes. Don't be misled by the rather tired decor at the entrance. I holiday once or twice a year near St Merryn, and always come over to St Columb Major to fetch a Westlakes Fish supper. The fish - cooked expertly to order - is always moist and delicious, and the chips are the best I've had in any chop shop. This family have been running Westlakes since the lovely now-elderly proprietor was a child. Very good value for money too, but please note they do not accept payment by card. There is a public car park - free after 5:00 PM- just opposite and a few doors along.
Karen S — Google review
A great, reasonably priced takeaway for fish and chips. Cash only establishment. Fish was fresh and chips were good. Pleasant owners. Best to walk there as not much parking along the street as it's very narrow. Definitely recommend as a takeaway.
G P — Google review
Food very greasy and portions which were ridiculously tiny especially the fish. The Man taking the orders was very rude and snappy if you asked a simple question. Explains why it was empty the place
Sarah S — Google review
Very disappointed having read the great reviews was not expecting to be so poor. Fish was inedible and chips were very small and not good . Hopefully we were unlucky tonight but this was a poor experience.

Pub
The Silver Ball is a charming family-run pub that offers a delightful atmosphere for everyone, including our four-legged friends. Whether you're indulging in their fantastic Sunday roast or enjoying a fun-filled bingo night with locals, the welcoming staff ensures you feel right at home. The new landlord, Jack, continues the tradition of serving an excellent selection of real ales while maintaining great value for money. With its friendly vibe and reasonable prices, it's no wonder patrons leave feeling satisfied and eager to return for more good times!
The very last time I was in this pub, was 50 years ago. It was an enigma then and in a small way, remains just the same? Very friendly staff and locals, which in Cornwall is a rare thing. The food portions are huge and VERY popular with the strong, local population. I didn't eat on this visit, but I'll definitely be trying their Sunday roast...it looks astonishing. I'm not sure of the exact year, but I'm guessing 1972ish... and the village was in turmoil when a bull escaped from the local market/abattoir. I was safely ensconced in The Silver Ball, whilst the police were called to deal with the bull. By the way...a pint of Director's real ale is an astonishing £4.20!!! Albeit the abv is now under 4.5%. And while on the subject of ales...it was a real pleasure to watch the landlord cleaning the pipes of his beers. The aforementioned Director's Ale, was absolutely pristine in taste, clarity and presentation. I wish my local pubs had someone with his skillset looking after their cellars and ales. 100% first rate. And this from an ex publican of 18 years. Fantastic value. Highly recommended.
Robert P — Google review
Had a Sunday roast with the family. Good choice of meats, sides etc. Staff really helpful and welcoming. Very good value when you consider other pubs charge higher and you get a lot less, we all left feeling very full up. Also doing a takeaway option is such a good idea. We will be going back but.

With its friendly staff and inviting atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for both locals and visitors to unwind. Patrons rave about the delicious food, especially the Sunday roast, which has quickly become a highlight for many. Well….. Had a fantastic afternoon in the Coaching Inn food was lush landlady’s son is fit.. (Oscar) The landlord loves Man Utd far too much and try’s to get you to support the club he even offers you a beer if you support em…. It worked with me.. 😎.. All in all great boozer rave on and come to St Columb Major

Lovely proper Cornish pub. The landlady makes great food and its brilliant value. The roast on a Sunday is a must. Landlord is always on hand to have the laugh with the customers and is an avid Man United fan so it’s always a good atmosphere when the footballs on. Barman today, I think his name was Oliver, lovely chap and very charming with the customers. Recommend

We have just moved to the local area! And thought we would try out a local pub! This was the 2nd pub that we went to, and have to say everyone was friendly and made us feel very welcome 😀. Andy the Landlord and Sid behind the Bar are Top fellas and I know this is going to be my local for the future! And it does a very decent pint.
Gary M — Google review
Great little local village pub. Dogs welcome! Dont expect glamour. Expect real people with real ale and a real fire and real leather sofa's. Malcolm recommends this pub.

We popped in here this evening for a couple of ales and were not disappointed. We were very warmly welcomed by both the landlady and the regulars! The beer was kept to perfection, we could imagine spending a full evening in here for sure! Thanks again and keep up the great work! (The Geordies)
Margie C — Google review
Lovely pub run by super friendly staff. Warm, relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Beers and ciders kept to excellent standard. If this place did food it would probably be the best one in the town.....
Phil P — Google review
Popped in with trepidation as it’s always nervy going into a pub as strangers, well we needn’t have worried as we were immediately treated as long lost friends, not just by the staff but locals as well, this pub and it’s regulars are a credit to Not only St Columb Major but Cornwall itself, and as if that wasn’t enough the beer was excellent as well ( and Guinness) Do be careful when ordering at the bar though cos the Rattler Cider does what it says on the tin! Go in, order a drink and enjoy yourself.

WORST PUB FOOD EVER. Tonight we were served the worst quality scampi I have ever been served. Deep fried bread crumbed grey cylinders of fried fish flavoured mush. My son ate them (he loves chicken nuggets and was starving) my Mum and myself found them inedible, not even Iceland quality. Starters poor quality and expensive, cottage pie made with cheap school dinner type mince, chips greasy, didn’t bother with desserts. No salad served with starters as they’d run out on a quiet pub on a Sunday in July! Felt completely ripped off, £166! could have cooked better at home. Not suprised pubs are going out of business. WEB SITE 4 YEARS OUT OF DATE AND MENU ONLINE NOTHING LIKE THE CRAP MENU ACTUALLY AVAILABLE!!!!

Penhale Round Cookhouse + Pub is a relaxed family-friendly venue that offers a delightful mix of classic dishes and international favorites, making it an ideal spot for gatherings with friends or family. Many visitors enjoy meeting up here after activities like geocaching, often concluding their day with a satisfying meal. The warm welcome from the staff sets the tone for a pleasant dining experience, where drinks are served promptly—like the refreshing pink lemonade garnished with raspberries.
I meet up with friends regularly to do geocaching and we always end the day with a meal. We have been here several times . The staff greeted us warmly. We were served promptly with our drinks. I chose pink lemonade for the first time and raspberries were added to it. Very refreshing. I chose chicken tikka with naan bread and it was delicious. My friends chose the fish pie come fishcake . The chips came separately. I was too quick in taking photo !! Highly recommend as good food, prompt service and a good price.

Visited today (a group of 9), Customer Service was super-superb amazing! pretty good offer on their meals. Ordered Cheeseburger and Latte, food serving in extremely large portions ☺️ key points at my gaze: atmosphere was a bit bland and food can improve much more..
Fatima S — Google review
I got the fish and chips, fish was rubbery and bland, with too much batter. Peas were average, chips were okay, nice crisp but abit cold. Waiter was very nice, food arrived very fast and they do have good allergen options, quite clean. The other person i was with got the cheese and bacon burger, abit burnt and that plastic cheese but was decent, chips too small and coleslaw was bland. We got the sharing platter starter and was exceptional, sauses and all of the components were above my expectations.

Booked here for 14 people at late notice.. Service was great, but seemed to lessen as it past 8 o'clock, and staff serving staff started to leave for the evening.. Food took as long as expected as it was busy, but had no complaints .. all meals were sized, cooked and presented well...

Cannot complain about the food or service. The lovely server we had was polite, friendly and very helpful. Quick to take orders, deliver drinks ect. Food came out quickly and was as described and okay. Wait for table to be cleared for next course was quick and efficient. It's the pub that let's it all down. Tired, very worn and not very clean. Definitely in need of a deep clean or refurbishment. Well done to the server though, she showed how it should be done. 5 stars for her.

Average food. Nothing to shout about. Very slow service. Open until 11pm but was refused a round of drinks @ 10pm. Then was told we had 10 minutes to drink up and leave by a lad who pretty much set a timer on his watch! Not impressed. Being a local I won't be eating there again or recommending to friends. Shame.

Nestled within the stunning Retallack Resort, The Lookout Restaurant & Lounge offers a delightful dining experience that perfectly complements its breathtaking surroundings. Guests can indulge in delicious dishes while soaking in the natural beauty of the area. Whether you're enjoying a casual meal or celebrating a special occasion, The Lookout provides an ideal setting to relax and savor every moment amidst nature's splendor.
Food was average, chicken was dry and gravy was very thin. Portion sizes weren’t big. Staff are incredibly un-attentive, took ages to get our food and they forgot our drinks multiple times.
Sophie M — Google review
I Ordered the prawn cocktail which was served with a very dry piece of white bread. After requesting the brown bread which was on the menu they sent out a slice. They couldn’t even be bothered to cut it (picture attached). We had Linguine for main which turned up with some of the mussels still closed. The attention to detail is woeful and definitely not worth the money.
David C — Google review
The food and service here has really gone downhill, overpriced food for Wetherspoons quality. Our booking was for 8 people and when we arrived they seemed to not know how many people the booking was actually for. 7/8 of our meals that we ordered were either missing parts of it or were just completely wrong. For example, on the menu it says the grilled chicken comes with garlic fries and aioli. Ours came with plain chunky chips and mayonnaise, when we questioned the staff on it they seemed to be confused and didn’t give a valid explanation as to why. Also during our meal, Bingo was taking place which was very loud and completely ruined the atmosphere of the restaurant, we could barely hear each other over it. We were not told this would be happening when we booked. I don’t think this should take place while the kitchen is open and while people are trying to enjoy their evening meal. After we finished our meals, we continued to drink cocktails on the decking. When ordering our cocktails the staff made it seem like we were being an inconvenience for ordering multiple cocktails to an outside table. And although it’s on every menu, this restaurant also doesn’t participate in the evening happy hour as advertised. We will definitely be going to a local pub instead next time.
Olivia W — Google review
Was a guest at the resort, decided to go for dinner at 8.20 when the restaurant serves food until 9, was told they couldn't serve us as they had just seated a table for four in the bar, made no sense what so ever, very flipant. Very bad public relations, they would be better with a table booking policy as the place was only half full! Would definitely influence me returning to the park in general. A real shame.
George H — Google review
I can’t review the food as be left before ordering. This was over half an hour after arriving for our pre booked reservation and from ordering a drink that never arrived. When we tried to speak to the so called manager she was dismissive of us. We were 1 of only 5 tables, 2 of which had already eaten. 4 young, untrained staff doing very little but why would they when their “manager” was not doing her job!
Emer M — Google review
I actually dont know where to start - maybe we were on some sort of hidden camera TV show to see how we would react when service is sooo bad, we were genuinely waiting for Ant and Dec to jump out from behind the bar, sadly no such luck. Let’s not beat around the bush here I have never experienced such terrible service ever. Food mehh, drinks alright but we only ordered coke and lemonade and we were gasping as they arrived after the food, so they were a welcome arrival, the service is absolutely shocking, atmosphere very wacky warehouse. Couldn’t even be bothered to go and get a refund for part of the meal that never arrived as I don’t think the staff would be able to manage pressing refund on the card machine and I genuinely couldn’t bare to put myself through it, maybe they can put it towards extra training for the staff, in particular the girl who looked like a deer in headlights and looked like she had no idea whether she was on this earth or Fullers. Anyway to summarise this place is awful, oh and very expensive !!!! We will not be returning and that’s a real shame as we are your captive audience staying in a luxury lodge for the week and can’t be bothered to cook - big mistake… HUGE

I wouldn’t bother to even entertain wasting your hard earned money at this place on your holiday. The service is so poor, slow. The manager is possibly the most un interested character I have ever come across in a restaurant. We were seated and told we would be asked regarding drinks this never happened, table was never cleared. Sad thing is there were only 5 covers when we were in the restaurant, I’d hate to see the service when it was full. Never again.

I won’t bore you with the details. Service was really poor - really slow and nobody seemed to care. Food was massively overpriced - in terms of quality think weatherspoons and you won’t be far off. Drinks selection really poor - again, think of a rubbish pub chain. We went because we arrived late on our first day, so it was convenient. We definitely won’t be going back!

If you're in the mood for some delicious Chinese cuisine, look no further than New Garden Chinese Restaurant. Even if it's a bit of a trek—seven miles from your accommodation—it’s worth every mile! The restaurant boasts a relaxed atmosphere where attentive staff ensure you feel welcomed. Whether you choose to dine in or opt for takeaway, the food arrives hot and bursting with flavor.
If you were like me and completely torn between going for some “pub grub” or taking a chance on the local Indian, please skip both of those thoughts and get down here. The place is beautiful, quietly tucked away, drove too fast and you’ll miss it. The atmosphere is lovely, the place is quaint and welcoming and the food is sublime and great value for money. We managed to have prawn crackers, a starter, 3 mains, 2 beers, a glass of wine and 2 beers for £60 which was immense value and didn’t manage to finish it all. All in all, fantastic find and would highly recommend

First time trying this Chinese, parking ample on site outside of restaurant on arrival furniture separates the till area which is very unusual. Staff pleasant and friendlye. Bough , food handed on a crate not a bag very unusual. The food isn't the standard I usually have/expect, although I appreciate every area has a different take on food. For me personally I found the curry sauce in the chicken curry similar to that from a Tesco ready meal, the chicken also tasted like frozen ready meal chicken , the mixed meat curry unfortunately for me who dislikes veg in curries contains alot of veg and very small amt of prawn ( yes only had one prawn in mine) compared to my usual place who give three large king prawns in the same meal i order from my local one. The pancake roll was bland and salty with little flavour at all. The chicken balls was okay but tasted reheated so therefore abit dry on the chicken , the sweet and sour sauce was alright nothing to rave about but the pot size was extremely small not enough to serve with the amount of chicken balls in my opinion. The prawn crackers was fine but crackers are pretty bog standard everywhere can't usually go wrong. I usually always save any leftovers for the next day and reheat which was my plan however a first for me is that I actually binned the leftovers. I wouldnt use this one again myself but I appreciate it's personal opinion but my son and husband all felt the same as me. Unusual to not please the son who's usually not at all fussy.

I ordered a takeaway from here even though it's 7 miles from where I'm staying. Got there at stated time and food came out within minutes. Atmosphere in restaurant was relaxed and you could see how attentive the staff were. Got back with the food and it was still piping hot and the tastes were spot on. Chicken Kung Po and salt and pepper chilli chicken 👏👏👏Thanks it's so nice to get good quality food at a reasonable price when on holiday. Would definitely recommend

Wow! Great experience. Called before to discuss Gluten Free food, which they accommodated fantastically. Such polite and helpful staff. The food was delicious, really tasty crispy beef ♥️ Good size portions and reasonably priced. Was ready to collect at the agreed time and still hot when i got it home. (Beer not included!!)

Never had a bad meal here! Staff are lovely. Food is great either in or takeaway! Our go to Chinese! Had a takeaway for 5 people! £81! So much food we can have it 2 days running! No wonder always so busy! Keep it up guys! We tell everyone about you!!! Xxx

Had a takeaway from here and my gosh!! It was absolutely fantastic! Ordered and didn’t think we would have enough but the portions are small, but more than enough. Collected from the place instead of delivery. Only thing I have been asked to add, was that the six foot nine individual who collected the takeaway, hit his head on the light as he entered! Thanks and photos don’t do it justice!!

McDonald's is a classic fast-food chain that has stood the test of time, renowned for its iconic burgers and crispy fries. One standout location offers an exceptional experience, with staff who are not only polite but also genuinely enthusiastic about their work. Customers rave about the hot food served promptly, which is a delightful surprise at many fast-food spots. This particular McDonald's shines in cleanliness and efficiency, making it a perfect pit stop for travelers on long journeys or bike rides.
Popped in on a 240 mile bike ride at about 3 am staff let us bring our bikes inside to keep them safe, Philly cheese stack topped up my energy reserves nicely

As roadway services McDonald's go, this one seems pretty good. Very clean; quick service. Fod average as you might expect. (I'm not a McDonald's expert, but it seems to be much cheaper here than nearer to London!)

Quick place to stop off the A30 at Hamburger hill, Fraddon. Level carpark & overspill parking. Next to kingsley village shop.

5* for a McDonald's, despite being very busy someone came and wiped our table down when we sat down. The chips were lovely, hot and crispy. The staff were all very polite. I've been to a fair few McD establishments and this one was amongst the finest

This by far is the best mcdonalds IN THE COUNTRY for how polite and welcoming the staff are .. ive never had such nice people working on a drive thru .. This place was LITERALLY phenomenal for their customer experience .. and the food was hot when we got it which is also something that doesn't happen very often with mcdonalds .. I know its only a drive thru mcdonalds but Tone of voice is everything and these people were just so hyped and happy it was such a good experience .. thank you fradden mcdonalds!

It was lovely and quiet when we went in fairly clean, polite staff. I would say however that there was a couple of tables where there was sources and spilt chips and knocked over things all over the floor and this hadn't been cleaned up and at that time of evening should have been due to the fact it was also very quiet.

This particular woman creates incredible celebration cakes. When a friend relocated to the north, it seemed unlikely that they would ever enjoy a good cake again. However, this woman has an extraordinary talent for baking. She caters to all ages, making moist sponges for young children and delicious fruit cakes for the elderly. The prices are reasonable, and the taste surpasses expectations. I highly recommend trying her cakes.
Lovely place home made cakes and tea in a China teapot very friendly ladies there

This lady makes the most fantastic celebration cakes. When our friend moved north we didn't think we would ever have a decent cake again but hey presto, this lady has that magic touch. From sponges for a 7yr old to fruit cakes for a 94yr old! Really reasonably priced and far tastier than you'd ever believe. Very highly recommended.
