Historical landmark
Pendennis Castle, a historic hilltop fortress in Falmouth, has stood as a formidable stronghold for over 450 years. Built by King Henry VIII, it offers panoramic views of the Carrick Roads estuary and provides insight into Cornwall's defensive heritage. Operated by English Heritage, the castle features interactive exhibits and costumed interpreters that bring its history to life.
Highly recommend the free tour. Lots of information about the history of the castle and the local area. We originally went for the Taskmaster collaboration as we were in the area. But didn't end up doing many of the tasks as were busy exploring the castle instead. Overall a great day.

The parking signs for the disabled parking are ambiguous and incorrect,so it's not very clear. Friendly staff and great afternoon spent looking round Penndennis Castle and grounds. Whilst looking around the fun room within the main part of the castle we were approached by Don,one of the English Heritage staff who could see that our disabled daughter was enjoying reading the information in each room. He approached me and asked if we wanted an explanation and tour of the castle, which we agreed. He was fabulous taking time to explain what each room was for and pitching it at a level that our daughter could understand and relate to. He checked in after each room to ensure she had understood the information. He was interesting and very informative and especially kind and compassionate with our daughter as he took time and effort to ensure she took something from the experience. I asked if he had any experience with Additional needs as he was so good with our daughter, he hadn't I'm particular but had experience of working with young people. Don was definitely an asset to English Heritage and made our trip informative and memorable. The grounds and views were amazing and we felt very much connected to that part of history from his storytelling. The station the teashop were also good and cakes delicious.. All staff were friendly and great,I'd it hadn't of been for the confusion over the signage for disabled parking I would have given this a 5 star review. Definitely worth a visit.

Chose a sunny day and you'll be rewarded with stunning views over to St Mawes and Falmouth. The Military history spans the moments of crisis in British history; 16th century, the Nepoleonic wars and WW1/ 2. Superb info boards and exemplary English Hetitage staff dealing with an unexpected group of cruise ship visitors. Coffee in cafe to finish was just as good!
Peter S — Google review
Absolutely loved our trip to Pendennis Castle. History with beautiful view's. A must for families & History buffs. Great cafe with friendly service and an amazing gift shop within something for everyone.
Catherine C — Google review
Interesting historical buildings, with plenty of information available. Easy to find, and onsite parking. It really only takes an hour to walk around the whole site, so it's a pleasant break from driving if you're passing through the area.
Gary N — Google review
We went for the jousting tournament, which was brilliant, but there was a huge range of entertainment which was suitable for all ages and it was all included in the price. We also visited the castle and museum. There’s a lovely cafe, but the food and drink is expensive. There was plenty of car parking.
Tracey N — Google review
Lots of history around this castle and World War Two! It’s dog friendly and they are also allowed in the castle. We went in for free as we had an English Heritage membership - definitely worth doing.

Great place to It's truly a wonderful destination, offering a unique experience. The atmosphere is pleasant, making it easy to relax and enjoy your time. Art gallery
Falmouth Art Gallery is a must-visit attraction, boasting an impressive collection of around 2,000 artworks including British and French Impressionists, surrealists, maritime artists, and contemporary painters. The gallery features works covering the Arthurian legend associated with Cornwall and pieces from renowned painters like Thomas Gainsborough. Visitors can also explore diverse exhibitions that change regularly and participate in workshops and art courses for both kids and adults.
A superb gallery of historic local art. Falmouth has a superb selection of galleries and this is a fine addition. As well as past art work there was a contemporary pieces and exhibits that ranged from the funny and whimsical to the thought provoking. I very much enjoyed my visit.
A C — Google review
A small but lovely art gallery with a charming little shop (prices are on the higher side, but that’s expected). What really stood out was how engaging the installations were — not just for adults, but for kids too. It’s wonderful that children are encouraged to interact with the exhibits, which makes the whole experience more fun and memorable. The current exhibition on technology and art was especially interesting and thought-provoking. Also, very convenient that there’s a toilet nearby — makes a big difference when visiting with kids. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Nina H — Google review
Visited the exhibit of ‘The Legend of King Arthur: A Pre-Raphaelite Love Story’. I had always wanted to see The Lady of Shalott in person. I visited Tate a while ago but it was being exhibited elsewhere at the time. Now it’s exhibiting in Falmouth and it was just great to see. Such a great exhibit overall. Displayed well and with a shop.
Aimee C — Google review
Small gallery with limited display space. Enjoyed what was on display but some of its better works weren't exhibited, which was a shame.
David L — Google review
A small FREE gallery but I found the exhibition on automata fascinating. I admire the exhibitors (most of whom are local to Falmouth) for allowing some of the exhibits to be played with (most people are careful but I was concerned about the child who was seeing how fast he could turn the handle - why wasn't the parent explaining that for everyone to enjoy these exhibits, we most all be respectful and careful not to break them). Beautiful, detailed work - often very complex scenes - as well as larger models/automata. Activities for children (everyone, probably) to try. Show your support for this small free gallery as we were told that the council needs to see that it is worth keeping it open by the number of visitors it attracts.
Helen W — Google review
Free gallery above the town library. Real good exhibition of local interest artists and some good multi media (video art). It is small....free but very well curated and a pleasure and surprise to visit. Well done.
Guy N — Google review
It's ok. Smaller than I thought it would be and a whole section was filled with rocks which don't interest me much. The central bit about Falmouth history was good and upstairs was a bit forgettable. Overall good but too expensive.
M — Google review
Free art gallery with a gift shop. Had an exhibition of Arthurian legend paintings and exhibits on display until end of Sept 2023. Including tapestries.

They're are always fabulous exhibitions in the buildings. Talks you can sign up to listen to online. The cafe does wonderful reasonably priced and children's portions as well. Plenty for all the family. The photos show the walk we always do which is out to Pendenis Point and further along to Gllyvase beach.

Tickets quite expensive but they do last for a whole year which makes up for the price :) an option for a cheap day ticket would be LOVELY. Best section of the area was seeing all the surf boards and learning about some of the locals and their cool, interesting history. The remote control boats were super unique with it only being controlled by using the sails and ‘wind’. Gets properly crowded on a rainy day.
Edward E — Google review
Modern museum in a lovely marina setting. It was a bit pricey at £18.50 for an adult. There was a great surfing exhibition on. Lots of interesting facts associated with the famous exhibits there. It looked a popular place for mothers with young children as there is a play area. There is also an inside pond for playing with radio controlled boats. Also they have a decent cafe and shop. There is a car park nearby with shops and cafes.
Gill G — Google review
They have a great exhibition of 100 years of surfing across Cornwall but also the world with big names in local sustainability such as James Otter of Otter Surfboards and David Forsyth from Driftwood Surfboards both great places to buy boards from! Really interesting and interactive exhibit with a 37ft surfboard weighing in at 181kg where it had 14 people able to ride it in the past and everything else in between! Definitely worth a visit just for this alone but the rest of the museum was amazing too!
Kieran D — Google review
Really enjoyed looking around at all the boats, surf boards and the history of the surf competitions. Unfortunatly the tide was out so we didnt see the fish in the lower levels. This didnt detract feom the experience. Also some amazing view.

Lovely day out with the children, ages 5 -14 , all of them enjoyed it. Went during the pirate exhibition in the summer holidays, very thorough and interesting, they also had a pantomime on hourly for the children which was well thought out and engaging, children loved it. Went down to tide 2 in the tower and enjoyed looking out to underwater and seeing the tide in the harbour.

Gyllyngvase Beach is a popular sandy beach with scenic views and an oceanfront cafe and snack bar. It's considered one of the best town beaches in the country, offering activities like yoga classes, safe swimming, paddleboarding, and occasional surfable waves. The beach also features a panoramic cafe/bar restaurant and well-kept changing rooms and showers. Nearby, there are three other beaches in Falmouth for visitors to explore.
A spectacular beach, and I even discovered a secret spot, where I took a cheeky pee, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. There was something oddly powerful about the moment, like nature itself was giving me permission.
Tom T — Google review
The beach was nice. I took a pleasant walk along the coast. It was windy, so I didn’t go into the waves. I just enjoyed it from the shore.
Daisy — Google review
Lovely city beach. Seems to be a reasonably flat sea bay, so safe for kids to splash in the water. Sandy white beach (coarse) and clear water. Blue flag beach (clean). Lovely view of pendennis castle, pendennis point and st anthony lighthouse. A beach cafe just over the sand, a takeaway and car park right next to it. Lifeguards on site.
Carolina P — Google review
Nice place to be with friends, family and good amenities in and around with the connecting coast path close by and a pay and display car park only minutes away from both beach and path. Extremely busy in summer time but all year round good place to come.
Jazmine I — Google review
Nice little beach, and a nice walk from Falmouth, watch out for seagulls, they will take food from you just when you are putting it in your mouth.

Gylly Beach has clear, fresh water and soft, clean sand. The atmosphere is welcoming, with friendly people all around. It’s a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy the seaside ❤️
Hakan — Google review
This beach was a nice place for me to relax after a lengthy coastal walk. It wasn't too crowded and had plenty of benches available to sit on. Also, it was located just a 5 minute walk away from Falmouth Town Station where I was able to get the train back to Truro from.

Swanpool Beach is a relaxed shingle beach located just a short 15-minute stroll from the town center. It features a cafe, kayak hire, and even a bouncy castle for some family fun. The nearby cliffside paths offer stunning views of the coastal scenes. The beach is dog-friendly and offers a sun terrace with beautiful sea views at the Gylly Beach Cafe, which serves modern dishes made from local, seasonal produce.
Great, small beach. Nice cafe serving beverages, ice cream, sandwiches. Outside seating with some sun shade. Always busy. There is a car park opposite the beach with pay machines.

Lovely little family friendly beach. Plea ty of parking in June on Saturday.
James P — Google review
Very nice shingle beach (tiny stones, not large pebbles) with a slightly more sandy area next to the sea. Carpark opposite, a bit pricey but convenient. Beach side snack bar with plenty to eat and drink to the left (as you face the sea). Restaurant on the low cliff area to the right. Excellent for kayaking and other non power water activities.
Paul — Google review
Lovely chill beach with parking, cafe and restaurant on the rocks!
Mia F — Google review
A very lovely beach, with a great cafe and good parking. Standard beach for sun soaking or swimming, and lots of rocky parts and coastal paths for the more adventurous and exploratory. Some parts are dog friendly and some are not, so best to check beforehand.
Graham W — Google review
Beautiful beach, not too busy. Dogs restrictions during summer. Nowhere to eat, has toilets near car park. Lovely walk over to next beach, with summer dog restrictions. Unable to find place for food, with dogs. Came across mobile food bar with excellent food and good coffee.
Kitty G — Google review
Beautiful beach. Out of all Falmouth beaches, this is my favourite one to swim. It's a clear water beach and is perfect for a family day out. It has a nice cafe. Car park and toilets are across the road.
Arif K — Google review
A lovely small beach that has a surfing school and a cafe by the beach. It’s probably visited by the locals more, but does have people come here from a distance too. It looks like a sandy beach, but it’s actually a pebble beach… so the water is Christal clear… apart from the shallowest point where all the tiny stones are washed onto the beach. Beautiful view at the sea front and also the local area. It also has a big paid car park near by where they also have mini golf there. I loved my visit!

Princess Pavilion & Gyllyngdune Gardens is a historic entertainment and leisure complex in Falmouth, offering a diverse range of events and activities. Originally built in 1910, the venue has evolved into a year-round live music venue and theatre complex, hosting live music, theatre performances, and community gatherings. The stunning Gyllyngdune Gardens surrounding the pavilion feature an Edwardian bandstand and vibrant Garden Cafe.
The gardens are very pretty,a lot of unusual plants due to their position and micro climate. The pavilion serves light snacks, alcohol and soft drinks, quite expensive in my personal view . Long bar area but service area is crammed up on the right side by till. Had my tray of tea passed over the head of an old lady making an order, and then making my way out through waiting people, not ideal . Nice outside seating area , toilets available. A good sun trap
Adrian W — Google review
Surprisingly pleasant venue with excellent indoor and outdoor space. (Dedicated parking is limited, so for bigger events assume that you may need to use street or general parking lots.) PS Special thanks to 99p Films and the Falmouth Food Co-op.
Hugh R — Google review
This is a conference venue in Falmouth. I recently attended the UK mining meeting there so I don't know what it's like on an average day. The gardens have a spectacular array of plants with lots of exotics. Well worth visit just for that.
Alan V — Google review
A day in Cornwall to watch Argyle play at Truro brought me to Falmouth for a quick visit and see the sea. Gylly beach cafe is a tourist trap and dull and boring so I set out to find somewhere different. Fortunately, hidden away past the hidden botanical gardens and up the steps and you find this hidden gem. Beautiful gardens and flowers all enclosed in a peaceful environment. Alas, I still couldn’t find a large latte but the joy of listening to a 4 piece brass band overcame the disappointment.

Arts organization
The Poly, also known as the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society, is a historic 19th-century cultural center in Falmouth. It features four galleries for art exhibitions and live performances including films and theater productions. The venue also includes a 180-capacity theater, a state-of-the-art pottery, exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, a fully licensed cafe/bar, and a shop showcasing local art and design.
Visited the Poly Guild shop today and fell in love! Beautiful gifts by local artists everywhere, lovingly set out and displayed. Walking around the shop felt like a treat in itself and I wanted to take so much of it home!
Tracey D — Google review
We are very lucky to have The Poly here in Falmouth. Very! It’s not just a cinema, gallery, shop, place of learning and a venue it’s a hub for creativity and culture in the town and beyond. Over the years I’ve been involved in Poly exhibitions, I’ve organised exhibitions, events and talks at The Poly, and partnered with them when I was running StreetDraw24 to raise funds for St Petrocs and their work with people experiencing homelessness. It was always a pleasure. A great team and a great institution.

This historical place has been through a lot to keep alive and alive it very much is. With events happening continuously and local art being put on show this place is like a giant display of local talent conducted by passionate volunteers. It offers so much and asks very little of its customers. Pay a visit to see what happening that week, you will find something to interest you for sure!

It's an ok venue for a gallery. I visited the 2nd Year Fine Art exhibitions and whilst the art was fantastic, the venue felt a little tired. They have a cinema which is always showing the latest films, and the gift shop looked extensive - so maybe it's worth another try.

Gardens
Queen Mary Gardens, located near Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, is a peaceful and beautifully landscaped public garden that was opened in 1912 to honor Queen Mary. The formal design of the gardens is complemented by Monterey Pines and features subtropical species, a lake, ornamental flower beds, and an impressive collection of trees. It's the perfect place to escape beach crowds and enjoy tranquility amidst vibrant plant life.
This garden is so beautiful and well maintained. It truly brings out the essence of nature and it’s many colours and shapes. It is small but it has enough variety of majestic plants and flowers for you to take your time as you walk by. There’s enough grass space for you to have a lovely picnic or just to sit down and absorb the nature around you. It truly is a picture perfect garden that should be admired by those who visit each time. What a way to make your entrance towards the beach. Be sure to check out the fire baked pizza van, coffee and beverage van outside the garden.

Although small there's a wonderful range of plants. Next to it is a lovely beach, cafe and toilets. The garden is a hundred years old and nearby is a separate dog friendly area and a lovely cove and another beach with nature reserve.

It's called Queen Mary Gardens but the truth is I went to the beach not the Gardens though they looked nice and peaceful. Parking is just over the road and from memory I paid £5.80 for 4 hours, I think it was £8.50 for the day. The beach on the other hand was really nice with plenty of room for all. There was a public toilet and showers. And there were a few food and drink outlets. And the beach had life guards on duty. Oh and the beach was very clean.

AK Wildlife Cruises offers a variety of wildlife cruises departing from Falmouth Premier Marina, providing an opportunity to explore the stunning coastline and observe marine life. Led by knowledgeable guides, these excursions offer informative commentary on the local ecology and wildlife. The three-hour wildlife cruise is particularly popular, offering a chance to discover the diverse inhabitants of Falmouth Bay.
Highly recommend this company if you want a nature-friendly and knowledgeable crew to take you out on a 5-hour wildlife cruise. Captain Keith is a nature enthusiast that will give you very detailed information about wildlife and their behaviour. Overall, great experience!
Gloria Q — Google review
The 5 hour dolphin and whale watching tour was a brilliant experience! Sadly, the whales were busy that day, but that's how it goes sometimes with wild animals. We were lucky enough to see plenty of dolphins, porpoises and a couple of seals. I'd highly recommend AK Wildlife Cruises 🐬 Fantastic trip!
Mike B — Google review
I have been a customer of AK Wildlife Cruises for many years now, and am never disappointed with the service and experience that they deliver. The boat is comfortable and well appointed, and is a stable viewing platform for sightings and photography. All of the crew are deeply passionate about the wildlife of Cornwall, and have a deep desire to share this with their customers. I absolutely love that they are still excited about seeing something special or unusual, and this excitement absolutely flows onto the passengers. Of course this is a wildlife cruise, and the wildlife may well have their own plans for the day, and so can never be guaranteed to be found. But I do believe that everything that can be done to increase your chances of finding and observing the wildlife is delivered without fail by the crew. Additionally this is a trip on a boat, so beholden to the weather conditions, but their choice of sheltered Falmouth as a location means that the chances of the weather impacting your trip are as minimised as they can be. We have tried other organisations trips, both in Cornwall and further afield, but have found for all round service, quality of viewing, attention to detail, and friendliness AK Wildlife Cruises are amongst the very best. I totally recommend AK Wildlife Cruises – I genuinely believe that like us you will keep returning.

An outstanding trip well worth the money. The entire crew are amazing at what they do especially Kieth the captain. My father is disabled and I have a daughter in a pram. They was so accommodating even moving the boat from one mooring to another to accommodate my father getting on board. The trip was very informative but in a very friendly encouraging manner. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to get closer to the wildlife that Cornwall has to offer. Thank you to the entire crew. We will be visiting again soon

Honestly amazing. We did the three hour trip today (12 Aug “The Burfords”) and we were so lucky to see dolphins and a baby minke whale in the bay. The captain was so warm and welcoming and the crew were so knowledgeable and they all showed so much respect for the animals doing everything on their terms. The wildlife we have in the UK is truly amazing and I would recommend anyone who is in Cornwall to use AK Wildlife Cruises go and explore. Thank you again and hopefully we will see you again soon!

We had a great 3 hour cruise. It went so quickly. Captain Keith and Skipper Jake were great!!! Knowledgeable and friendly the time flew by. As did the dolphins. Lots to see today. Birds/gulls diving for their fish dinner, seals being curious and so many dolphins!
Jayne E — Google review
Captain Keith delivered an informative tour. Josh was also very helpful. There is no guarantee that you will see any whales and that is exactly what happened to us. However, owing to Keith’s expertise we did find ourselves in amongst a pod of about 150 dolphins. Absolutely brilliant. I would definitely go again.

We felt really welcomed and safe. There was a family atmosphere on board and every consideration was taken to ensure our wellbeing and comfort. Capns Keith and Jake and crew Cam and Emily, were extremely knowledgeable and informative about the local wildlife and it was good to hear about the local coastline and history too. We were very honoured to meet them and feel lucky and grateful to have had this wonderful opportunity. We were extremely fortunate with the weather and were thrilled to see so many seals, porpoises and dolphins and a minke whale too! Seabird sightings were numerous and particularly exciting for Kosmo as he was hoping to see Shearwaters. We saw Great Skua, as well as Gannets, Razorbills and Kittywakes (this is not an exhaustive list!) and we were not expecting to see Chough, which was an extra treat! We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the boat and will definitely book again. It was extremely straightforward and easy to make the booking and lovely Lauren in the office, was helpful and communicative throughout. Thoroughly recommended. Photos to follow! Liz and Kosmo D

Restaurant
The Working Boat, located on Greenbank Road, offers a quintessential pub experience with a waterfront setting and dog-friendly atmosphere. The pub serves its own brew along with 15 beers and ciders on tap, complemented by picturesque harbor views. The menu features tasting platters, small dishes like smoked mackerel salad and crispy chilli prawns, as well as griddled dishes such as barbecue steak and burgers.
Absolutely fantastic !!! Seriously the best roast dinner in Falmouth. Staff are amazing. 🤩 The food itself, I am extremely critical of Sunday roasts, as you will see from some of my other reviews. So when I say that this is the best roast, in Falmouth, it comes from a place of experience. The Yorkshire pudding, incredible freshly cooked, you can tell. Some of the restaurants in Falmouth will cook them probably the day before and you can taste that they have been.. the roast potatoes !!!! absolutely delicious, full of flavour and beautifully cooked. The meat the beef is real beef none of this stuck together crap that you get in some of the other restaurants in Falmouth. This was beautiful beef cooked splendidly. The chicken was moist and full of flavour 😊 The gravy !!!!!! Now that is worth a special mention. I have not had proper chicken gravy for a very long time. This is proper stuff clearly cooked with the chicken/ Beef stock and the flavour is exquisite.. Vegetables served separately and cooked perfectly. Everything was piping hot and you could tell everything was Fresh !!!!!! How you want a roast to be 💝 We have booked for next week and we will be there every Sunday now till the spring time. 💝💝💝 thank you 🤩 Please look after you chefs, cherish them they are worth every penny xxx

Have stayed at the greenbank before and was unable yongey a table, now we have finaly eatern you can undetstand why! WoW great food and a service to match, at a super price, gamon was the the chefs choice today, so had to irder both the beef and gamon, and i was disappointed, the plates came out full of meat and potatoes and then 2 big bowls of veg came as well, too make it even better you only had to ask for more and they were only too happy to bring you another bowl of veg, drinks choices is wide with some goid beers and largers, aling with many choices of wines, gteat place to come if you have dogs, as what i observed was first rate to accomadate customers who had there dogs with them.

Stopped in for an evening meal and had a great time! Great service, wonderful views over the harbour (we even saw a seal bobbing around) and interesting menu. I had the catch of the day and my husband had a burger - both delicious. Dessert was a sticky toffee banana pudding (all the dessert buzzwords) with custard and was fab. Would highly recommend for pub grub, their excellent reputation is well deserved.

This is one of the nicest places I've been. The Working Boat is in the Green Bank Hotel with amazing food, a great selection of beers, and a really nice atmosphere. Very friendly bar staff and waitresses and waiters. The views are absolutely beautiful, overlooking Falmouth Harbour. I have been a few times and have never been disappointed. You do not have to be staying at the Green Bank Hotel to use The Working Boat. It is a very relaxing place to eat and drink with many bonuses. Absolutely love this place ❤️ Cheers, Vince.

The service here is amazing! We had two lovely people I believe their names are Jessica and Roz! So friendly. Made sure the food was perfect for us! Even brought us extra gravy. Freddie was a laugh too! Got us drinks sorted right away! The roast was next to none other. It was amazing. Great portion sizes. I love how it’s plated so you can choose the veggies you want! And offer more if you need more! Will be coming back. Was delicious. Thank you all.

Scenic Walking Areas
Pendennis Point is a must-visit destination in coastal Cornwall, offering breathtaking views of Falmouth Bay and the surrounding area. Visitors can explore the Little Dennis fort built into rocks near the high water point and take leisurely coastal walks along the path to Maenporth beach. The strategic location and natural beauty make it popular for those interested in local history and stunning scenery.
Free viewpoint with parking (sometimes very busy) ice cream stalls and a coffee stall. More space than it looks like. Some nice places to sit, a small fort and interesting rock formations, plus of course a nice view.
Rich S — Google review
A great place to stop for a rest. Free parking and a great place to watch sunsets, dolphins and regattas. Also makes for a great place to walk and fish for mackerel etc.
Darren B — Google review
Free car park with fantastic views out to sea in every direction, plus the castle just behind. You can also walk down to the rocks from the car park. This really is a hidden gem in Falmouth.
Rich C — Google review
This is one of those places where it becomes a family tradition that you have go to enjoy if you are in Falmouth to enjoy the 270 degree views, fresh air (or even rain!), watch the boats and ships passing or mooring in the bay, a gentle walk to the fort and fishing rocks beyond the car park - and of course the ice cream from which ever van happens to be there serving freshly made ice cream in '99's'. May I be able to do for many years to come!

Beach
Castle Beach is a picturesque beach located just south of the town, near Gylly Beach. It offers stunning views over Falmouth Bay and Pendennis Castle. At high tide, the clear waters are great for snorkeling, while at low tide, a narrow strip of shingle and sand is revealed along with rock pools for children to explore.
Best beach for me, lovely Rock pools, sunny area, first class cafe providing such tasty food and drinks. Outdoor seating mainly, but plans in place for a all weather seating area to extend the season.
Carole S — Google review
“I walked by the sea to the castle, it was awesome, and I was lucky to catch some sunshine.”
Daisy — Google review
Stunning views amazing at sunset Cafe is also a bonus some good rock pools too
Matt P — Google review
This place has a great view and Pendennis Castle close-by, but the beach itself has a rancid smell, which attracts lots of midges/flies. Me and my daughter went for the rockpools but only managed to catch endless amounts of tiny crabs and a couple of baby Goby's.
Ant S — Google review
Parking would be free on the main road, which will be quite full during holiday periods. Access is down wide, fairly steep concrete slope to the cafe and seating. There is a further slope or steps down to the beach. The beach is narrow but sandy. The sea floor slope off quite steeply from the shore so watch little ones. Not sure about loos? The cafe has a very good range of beach side food and drinks.
Maggie P — Google review
This beach completely disappears at high tide. There are rocks and boulders in the water which makes getting in difficult.
Jo B — Google review
Beautiful beach with amazing rock pools. The sea does cover the beach at high tide so watch the tide times. Has toilets. There are a few little secluded spots off to one side above the rock pools. We had a lovely afternoon here.
Kelly R — Google review
Really beautiful area to go for a walk. If you're brave enough you can get into the water as the beach is more rocky than sandy. The weather usually is really good but sometimes you'll get that rain that will be annoying if you're not from these lands.

Trebah Garden is a stunning sub-tropical paradise located near the Helford River Estuary in Cornwall. This award-winning garden offers an array of seasonal blooms, including ancient rhododendrons and fragrant magnolias in spring, giant rhubarb in summer, hydrangeas in autumn, and diverse flora from the southern hemisphere in winter.
Such a beautiful place to visit, been many times in the past and returned this year to find its just as unspoilt . Lots of unusual tropical plants grow in this protected valley , it’s a steep hike down to the beach at the bottom but worth the walk to be rewarded by stunning views and the most amazing ice cream. We were lucky to go on a warm day in early autumn and it was the highlight of our holiday
Tracey P — Google review
Been a while lovely to return. Loving the blues of the hydrangea. Free use of a tramper is a good addition for those who need assistance. Great day to chill on the beach before the hike back up. The new to us walled garden was worth a visit.
Donna S — Google review
Random visit for us as we had planned other places, very glad we went. It poured with rain the whole time but this made it feel even more special. The plants and walks around are amazing and a kid park for the kids to enjoy. Would 100% recommend to all.
Martin H — Google review
Wow what an amazing garden! It's got so many fascinating plants and all grown with so much vigor! The garden is in a valley so you walk down one side and walk back up the other. The paths are well maintained but there's a lot of walking up slopes. Lovely icecream shop by the beach.
Hannah W — Google review
We went with a coach party and parking wasn't a problem. The garden reminded me of the Gardens of Heligan but on a smaller scale and with less diversity of plants. The planting includes lots of bamboo, hydrangeas and tree ferns. The paths wind their way down to the beach where there is a cafe with outside tables. You can do a circular walk to return to the car park. There is a shop, cafe, toilets and small plant centre before the exit.
Gill G — Google review
My wife and I loved this ravine garden... Excellent parking, very modern visitor centre with toilets, cafe and customer seating..helpful staff for regular and first time visitors...shop for gifts and plants. Very clear map of paths leading down to the beach with hard standing area, picnic benches and (on our visit) the option of tea coffee ice cream and snacks... wonderful views across the Helford estuary.

Absolutely beautiful gardens, we visited beginning of July 2025. Can choose between easy or more hilly walk around the grounds. We took our dog who also loved it. You can take your dog into the cafe which is great. Highly recommend a visit.

Fish and chips takeaway
Fast food restaurant
Fish & chips restaurant
Harbour Lights Fish & Chips is a popular restaurant in Falmouth, known for serving classic fish and chips along with other seafood, burgers, pies, and sausages. Their menu features fresh locally landed fish and chips made from Cornish potatoes. The restaurant offers indoor seating with views over the bustling harbour as well as takeaway options to enjoy by Custom House Quay or at nearby benches overlooking the water.
Amazing fish & chips!! The sustainability practises of this place including the MSC for sustainable fishing across their menu, drew me in above all other restaurants in the town. Would 100% recommend, loved every bite! Line caught haddock, regular chips, mushy peas and curry sauce, incredible!!
Sophie H — Google review
Decent, But Nothing Special Whenever I visit a seaside town, my first stop is always fish and chips. It’s usually a generous portion at a reasonable price, and this time was no different. After researching online, this spot seemed to be one of the most well-known, so I decided to give it a try. The atmosphere and location are nice, and the staff are friendly. As you can see in the photo, the lemon was almost bigger than the fish! The portion was filling, with chips and mushy peas on the side. However, the mushy peas tasted like they had just been reheated from a pre-made batch, and overall, the meal wasn’t anything extraordinary. The fish was decent, the chips were standard—nothing that made them stand out. One downside was that my coffee arrived before the food, so I had to eat quickly before it got cold, which took away from the enjoyment. I didn’t want to send it back and waste it, but it wasn’t an ideal experience. If you’re in the area, it might be worth trying something else on the menu, but for me, it was just an average fish and chips experience.

South African restaurant
Amanzi African Restaurant in Falmouth offers a casual and modern dining experience, featuring a diverse menu of dishes from across Africa made with fresh Cornish ingredients. The restaurant is run by Carolyn and Ian, who bring their South African roots to the warm and welcoming family-run eatery. From breakfast to dinner, guests can enjoy an array of bold flavors, including Roosterkok for lunch and espetada with braaied rump steak for dinner.
I had dinner here last night and it was REMARKABLY good. My friend, who is South African and lives locally, said it was a must while I am visiting. I had the skewer with beef and vegetables topped with the best garlic butter that drips down...honestly, the beef was so tender and had a lovely spice rub. My friend had the huge prawns in a garlic sauce. She made moaning sounds throughout the meal! The Malva pudding is basically the best sticky toffee pudding you've ever tasted - and the Koeksisters...I mean can't be bad! The sorbet it came with was incredible. Special shout out to the chips...THE CHIPS. I can be pretty 'meh' about chips. But these were incredible. Amanzi, if you can reply to this review to say what you do to make your chips like that? I will love you forever.

Went to lunch with a friend, played safe with the calamari starter and then full rack of ribs (lovely sauce) with coleslaw and chips. My friend had the Trinchado Bunny-Chow, which was nice and spicy, but lacked something. I prefer chips without salt, but most restaurants add it. I will remember in future to specify no salt. Atmosphere ok, relatively busy considering we ate at 14:00. Worth a visit.

Lovely South African restaurant in Falmouth located along the high street just past the Harbour. Recommend that you book the night before as all the tables were fully booked on trying for a table previously. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The decor was obviously South African theme. The food however was awesome. Having a partner who is South African and coming to these places with amazing Food especially the Meat. Absolutely amazing. Highly recommended 👌
David C — Google review
Wow wow wow! Not sure where to even start with Amanzis but out of all of the restaurants I’ve ever been to Amanzi is THE BEST RESTAURANT I’ve ever experienced and that’s not an exaggeration. I was a student in the area and it was my go to spot for everything. Dates, my graduation meal, celebrations with friends. I even made sure to visit the restaurant on my very last day before I left Falmouth. The Espatada is well seasoned, juicy, delicious and comes with generous serving of garlic butter that enhances the flavours of the skewered meat and veg. Then the chips that come with them are crispy and fluffy. The burgers and cocktails were great too. The restaurant also has a nice atmosphere and really nice view if you sit outside. But if you decide to sit inside the decor has an impressive swagger about it. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting the area or just live near by. Thank you so much to Amanzi and the staff for the great service and food each time I came by. Only problem was that I discovered it 5 months before I left Falmouth. Would give more stars if I could. 5/5!!

Outstanding! By far the best restaurant in Falmouth. We were a large party and had many different items on the menu and every dish was full of flavour and cooked to perfection Great selection of interesting beers and cocktails and lovely staff. We will be back 🙌
Sean — Google review
This restaurant is very popular, and I'm glad I booked in advance. We tried the peanut soup, lemon sole, and bobotie. The food was tasty, though I can't vouch for its authenticity. The lemon sole with French mushroom sauce was a hit, and the bobotie was intriguing, with its cinnamon rice, jam-vinegar mix, and cheesy curry meat layer. It was a good experience, but the place needs better ventilation for the amount of frying they do, to improve both staff and customer comfort.

We had a 2 hour sea kayaking session Myself and my fiancée had an amazing experience and really wonderful time. Highly recommend, worth the money for couples or a family, the instructor was brilliant!

Wonderful morning coasteering around the headland from Swanpool. Billy was a brilliant instructor - friendly, helpful, funny and safety conscious - he made our morning a great experience. Would highly recommend it to anyone who lives in Falmouth or visitors!

My wife and I had a 2 hour introduction to dinghy sailing here. It was a brilliant lesson and although we thought we might spend some time on the beach being given some theory, we were straight out on to the water with hands-on practical learning for the whole time. Mikey was friendly; clear with his instruction; and constructive (and generous) with his feedback. Wetsuits and buoyancy vests were provided. This was a really fun way to spend a couple of hours of our holiday in Falmouth and great value as well. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing time kayaking with Elemental. We had Dany as our instructor and he was absolutely fab. He showed us how to use the paddles properly, was patient with my dyspraxic brother, and super with my two children aged 5 and 10. Everyone got to go out on a kayak and as I had a broken wrist they took me out with them which I hadn't expected to be able to do. Dany had a great sense of humour and made our 2 hours fun. We paddled out on the seato a shipwreck and back, and stopped to have a break and look at the sea creatures on the way. I cannot recommend Elemental enough and we'll definitely be coming back next time we are in Cornwall.

We had two very friendly and knowledgeable coasteering guides who took us to the jumps in exciting conditions. Our experience was made even better by a seal coming right past and and up to the group, made even better by Frazer's hilarious reaction. It was a fantastic half day that was well spent!

Myself and a group of friends were sitting and enjoying the peace and quiet of a stunning cove around the corner from swanpool beach. We had just gone for a swim and had admired (from a distance) a stunning compass jellyfish which was in the water. Upon return to our towels, a large group of young paddle boarders returned to collect their 'mega' paddle boards from the beach after what had looked like a session of coasteering. We then watched as the jellyfish that we had just admired so carefully was then picked up with a paddle by one of the instructors of the group, we initially thought he was going to safely show the children the jelly fish and explain the wonder and dangers of wildlife in this environment. However we were extremely upset and disappointed to see that an instructor who you would expect to have the utmost respect for the environment threw the jelly fish at the cliff face, watched it fall on to the pebbles and then threw it back up the cliff face again. This was a completely avoidable way to maintain the safety of the group and at a cost of a living organism. I would question the role model these children had during their experience.

Additionally, the harbor hosts prestigious events such as the Richard Mille Cup regatta, showcasing spectacular yachts from different eras.
Picturesque harbour will lovely views. Parking possible on the quay itself but I think would be snapped up quickly during the summer months. Lots of seating around the harbour with some harbour side public houses where you could sit outside with drinks / food Close to the older town and the shops

It was unusual to get alongside in a cruise ship at Falmouth, so this was a real treat. Port facilities were excellent - flat, safe, toilets, well signposted, and there was a small shuttle bus running to the bottom of the High Street. It's easy enough to walk though if preferred. Met on arrival and at the shuttle bus stop, by members of the Falmouth Cruise Ship Ambassadors, who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. A great service of which Falmouth should be proud. Thank you.

Embark on a captivating two-hour coastal explorer trip with Orca Sea Safaris in South Cornwall. The experience is well-organized, with thorough safety procedures and the provision of waterproof clothing and life jackets. The boat features jockey seating for a more comfortable ride over waves.

Fab trip on a blustery day - big waves but the boat expertly driven by Capt George ploughed through them with ease and we felt very safe for a family with two under 16 and two over 75! The dolphins and other marine life didn’t make an appearance, but it didn’t dampen our spirits, unlike the splashes!

We felt in safe hands the whole trip and even got to see dolphins. So pleased we did it. Thank you so much for your patience and assistance with finding you.

Had a great time with Orca Sea Safaris. Saw multiple pods of dolphins and the boat was very comfortable. It was very respectful and George was great!
Lucas D — Google review
The boat tour was postponed twice and then cancelled altogether. George also misleadingly offered us alternative tours at 6.00 am that didn't even exist. In addition, I now have to worry about how to get my money back from GYG. It's all very annoying and this has cost us two uncertain holidays when we couldn't plan anything else in Cornwall. Zero stars for the boat trip

Fantastic couple of hours. Our daughter saw pods of around 60 dolphins, and she absolutely LOVED it. Would thoroughly recommend seizing the opportunity if you're ever in the area. Great value, friendly skipper. Couldn't have asked for more!

Really recommend Will’s walking tours, we were entertained and educated for a lovely 90 mins. Highlights included ‘consensual folk’, Falmouth’s prettiest bin store, spelling mistakes and the first sunshine we’d seen all week. We were the first tour of 2024 and enjoyed the new material re hotel dramas. We will be telling our pals to get their tickets.

A great way to learn about Falmouth's history. A family friendly tour with activities for children at each stop. We got a sense of how Falmouth has changed over time through listening to Wills great story telling. We would highly recommend this tour.

A great way to 'uncover' some of the living past behind Falmouth, great put together history and wonderfully presented. Can't wait for the sequel 'Penryn Uncovered'. Well worth the time and value for money.

The tour was incredible. I have been coming to Falmouth for the past 5 or 6 years without knowing anything about its very interesting history. I am so glad I came on the tour. Will was very friendly and knowledgeable and very entertaining. As well as the wonderful history I learnt he also treated as to a amazing performance just outside his former flat that he is moving out of. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it. If I could I would rate 6 out of 5 stars. I recommend a visit.

Will was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable, friendly & entertaining. The area is beautiful and full of a rich history we would have missed out on without this lovely walking tour. He quite possibly has the best pair of boots in town.
Vickie — Google review
A group of us took this tour recently with Will as our guide. Will was dressed in what seemed to us typical 17th century garb which included a three cornered hat. His knowledge of Cornwall and Falmouth in particular was outstanding and his talk was presented with much humor. His talk of the extensive piracy (or privateering) in the area was fascinating. We are unable to stump him with our many questions. The only thing missing, perhaps, was an eye patch and a parrot perched on his shoulder. This tour is highly recommended.

What a fantastic insight into Falmouth’s history! Will is an excellent guide - passionate, humorous, & very friendly. This tour is not just “here is a significant building” or “someone famous came here once”, it is an immersive experience. I came away feeling that I could smell & hear & see old Falmouth as I walked through the town. Bravo - i highly recommend this tour

I live in Falmouth and really enjoyed learning more of its local history. Will was really friendly and clearly did a great deal of research, which he delivered in an enjoyable way. It was also nice to meet others who shared similar interests in local history. I would definitely recommend this tour. 😊

Nestled near the Helford River, Glendurgan Garden is a peaceful and exotic National Trust garden featuring ancient trees, exotic plants, and a valley leading to a sheltered beach. The garden offers attractions for all ages, including a planted maze and a rotating rope swing. In spring, the garden comes alive with colorful blooms from magnolias and camellias. The lower valley boasts exotic flowers while thousands of wildflowers cover the steep valleys.
Gorgeous, historic gardens. The maze was fun. Few games dotted around for children & adults alike. If you're really into gardening & plants, this is the place. We walked all the way down to the tiny hamlet next to the Helford River where we had an ice cream. Then the steep walk back up. A nice way to while away a few hours.

Lovely walk through an exotic woodland downhill to a tiny fishing village (some of which is now holiday cottages) and stony beach with beautiful views over river estuary. Energetic walk back uphill via the maze halfway which was great fun . There were some flowers but I went at wrong time of year for them but thoroughly enjoyed the gardens nevertheless. Refreshments and toilets at top and bottom of path.
Warren H — Google review
Excellent! Beautiful gardens. The cafe is great too. The maze is a real highlight and so much fun! Harder than it looks! We walked down to the beach from the garden and it was really lovely! I did find the second hand bookshop a little more over priced than usual.Highly recommend!
Vanessa M — Google review
Wow, what an a great garden, there's a lot to see. If you have limited mobility then be warned that most of the garden is on a slope so there's a lot of walking up and down hill. There's some fabulous and different plants here, all of which are well cared for. You can walk down to the beach which is a lovely place to chill. The maze is fantastic fun and challenging being on a slope. Don't miss the massive tulip tree as you walk in which is incredible! There's a lovely cafe selling tasty cakes and drinks, some of which are traditional to Cornwall.
Hannah W — Google review
Lovely relaxing atmosphere, dogs allowed on lead except the maze, orchard and schoolhouse which is fine. Great cafe but dogs are outside - website says inside on the left but it doesn’t have any walls so really it’s outside with a canopy. Pebbly beach but still relaxing with an ice-cream hut. Dogs are allowed here too but on a lead. My mum who is 80 managed this walk with a few stops at the benches dotted around the site.
Keri-Anne P — Google review
A lovely garden to leisurely wonder around. The plants and trees are very well displayed, with info on some of them. The little village at the bottom of the garden is very quaint with the little beach where you can sit and have a ice cream before you start back up the hill. The grandchildren really enjoyed the maze. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a very good day out.
Michael P — Google review
Fun activity for 3-4 hours with the kids. Maze, apple shed and the games nearby (connect4, big jenga blocks etc.) were really fun for the kids. Great walk down to the village near the beach and really tasty local ice cream from there. Finally some jacket potatoes back at the cafe near entrance to top the day.
Ajai G — Google review
We returned on Sunday, many years after our last visit. Still as beautiful as we remembered it. We had to take the easier route, as this time we had our grandson in his pushchair with us! Walked down to the village and beach, stopping for an ice-cream. Such a lovely spot. The flowers and trees in the gardens are stunning. We didn't attempt the maze this time, as previously, I remember it took us a long time to find our way out! Had some sandwiches and cake at the top café before our journey home - all delicious. Well worth a visit if you're in the Falmouth area.

I was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful greenery & vast space these donkeys & horses get to live. I liked seeing people move the donkeys & horses to shade on a hot day & inviting them in for food. A worthy cause to donate to where the animals are loved & cared for

Such a lovely place. So many cute donkeys and they get the best care possible. There is a cute little vegan cafe, too. Clear recommendation.

My daughter had a donkey adopted to her for her Birthday (Bunny), so we wanted to come and visit her. My kids absolutely loved seeing all the donkeys. You can see they are well looked after and loved. Their stables and barns were in a great condition and had lots of space. We went into the Vegan cafe which was lovely and the staff really nice. We purchased donkey merch in the gift shop. My daughter loves her Bunny cup. Overall lovely visit and could donate when there. We will be back and I am sure my son will have a donkey to his name by Christmas haha (Bertie)

Myself and a friend visited the sanctuary today and we couldn't have had a better experience. All of the staff and volunteers were amazing with a special shout-out going to volunteer Bob who was greeting everybody on the gate with a massive smile and great chat. Entry to the site is free, but donations are appreciated - even if it comes through buying something at the gift shop. Another shout-out to one of the other members of staff, Rachel, who we found frequently gently encouraging the donkeys to get closer to the public for cuddles and love. She was also taking people's phones to go get close-up photos for them. The ladies in the gift shop were super friendly, and the café staff were excellent when dealing with an allergy in our party. All of the animals were obviously very well cared for. As people who grew up with horses and donkeys, we could tell they all get the best love, and staff are obviously dedicated to their wellbeing. The sanctuary has lots of parking including accessible spaces and drop off zones. Everyone was happy to be there, including the many families with young children. We didn't come with a dog, but saw many wandering around, greeting the donkeys themselves. We will almost certainly be back (probably in a few days!). Thank you to everyone who volunteers and works there!!

When in Falmouth, a visit to the RNLI Falmouth Lifeboat Station is a must. You can explore the impressive Severn Class all-weather lifeboat and Atlantic 75 inshore lifeboat on a free guided tour. Learn about the vital work of the RNLI and its volunteers while taking in the maritime atmosphere. The station also features a souvenir shop where you can find unique nautical keepsakes.
Enjoyed the tour around the boat today to say farewell after 23 years of service. Thank you to Ruth for your very informative information.

We had the most amazing visit at Falmouth lifeboat station - made our grandson's day thanks to Yvonne's ability to engage our family's 3 generations that visited today - our 5 year-old got to be fully involved wearing the gear and helmet, learning how to raise the alarm and even better go on the boat and be navigator for the day. The rest of us were equally enthralled to learn about the volunteers and amazing work of the service that risks their lives for us. This is certainly not the first lifeboat station we have visited but was by far and away the best.Thank you Yvonne for making it better than Pendenis castle with jousting. (Which was great too.)
Jackie A — Google review
This is a must-go in Falmouth. We booked this tour earlier through emailing their station and got a reply promptly. The tour was around 45 minutes and Yvonne showed us around and talked about RNLI’s history and missions. We even got the chance to go on board the lifeboats and took some nice photos. We learnt much more about the organisation and its operation. The sacrifices of these lifesaving heroes are truly admirable. RNLI wouldn’t be making such a big impact without volunteers like Yvonne. Thank you once again for this amazing experience!

The Penryn Camera Club braved a stormy sky (it didn’t rain) for a visit to the Falmouth RNLI Station. This included a trip around the station and even on the larger lifeboat. A real treat, accompanied by a knowledgeable and friendly guide. A fabulous visit to this public-funded facility, loads of info and facts, and some great pictures. Strange fact; They do not even get VAT relief on their fuel!! so they are always looking for donations to help save those in need. Highly recommend visiting and supporting this RNLI station.
Paul C — Google review
You can visit an operating lifeboat station and the boat itself. There is a little tour with general background information and insights in the daily work. We, as a family of 3, realy enjoyed the short tour (with Derek) and recommend a visit.
Stefan K — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit - a guided tour by volunteer Chris, during our stay in a nearby apartment. Very knowledgeable & committed to the aims and purposes of the Institution, as am I, for many decades. Visits need to be prearranged but may be disrupted at short notice by operational requirements, eg, should the crew have "a shout" (launch). After a detailed safety briefing, we were invited onto their Severn Class AW Lifeboat, with a great explanation of its operational areas, capabilities & purposes, safety features, et al including onto the bridge & its admittedly limited on board crew quarters. The engine room is "out of bounds" for safety grounds. Followed by a visit to the station itself, including the crew rooms and their inshore RIB, that is launched & recovered via an adjoining slipway. As an aside - and also reported widely on various MSM & other news sources - their Severn Class vessel is being replaced, after a quarter of a century of service, in coming weeks by the RNLI's most modern boat, the Shannon Class. Well worth a visit to better understand the commitment of those living &/or working in our coastal communities, to the saving of lives and preservation of safety at sea.

Penjerrick Garden, located just outside Falmouth, is a captivating 15-acre botanical garden that offers an adventurous experience for nature enthusiasts. The garden features a lush jungle-like environment with tropical flora and fauna, including a bamboo forest and ferns. Visitors can explore the overgrowth of natural gardens, stooping below the low canopy and navigating through paths and mazes while discovering wooden sculptures along the way.
A most magical, unspoilt, wild garden. Wear boots, take walking poles if, like me, you're a wobbler. It's muddy and slippy in parts. I can't wait to go back. Will be contacting the owner as I couldn't find anywhere to pay my 3 quid and it was really worth it
Jane S — Google review
Botanical paradise, a completely off grid experience. Like entering a hidden garden.
Andy H — Google review
Really fascinating garden with amazing plant specimens including some of the tallest tree ferns in the country and a beautiful Wollemi Pine. The footbridge between the upper and lower garden is currently broken (rotten on far side and will eventually collapse), so use the gate to cross the road. There is hazard tape on the bridge but it looked like someone had pushed through it when we visited - I wouldn't recommend this, as falling from height in rural Cornwall when the bridge does give way probably won't go so well! Paths in the lower garden are tricky to navigate but it's worth exploring this jungley wilderness if you are sure-footed and don't mind a bit of mud and pushing through foliage. We visited at the end of a pretty dry summer so the mud situation was perhaps more manageable than it could have otherwise been, but I could see it being very difficult in the lower garden at some times of year. I really hope this garden gets the care and support it needs to continue long-term, as it really is a special place.
Eleanor H — Google review
The hydrangeas and trees were very impressive. Big disappointment in the pond section of the gardens as paths were un-walkable and overgrown. There was confusion with maps and the signs indicating to go different ways. Overall, just needs a fair bit of care and clarity.
Isabelle C — Google review
A mesmerising garden. If you are fascinated with the jungle then it's not to be missed. The lower part of the garden is always very muddy so wear proper footgear and unfortunately you may want to avoid wheelchairs / strollers. You can use wheelchairs/strollers in the upper part of the garden.
Arif K — Google review
What a place! This is the true lost garden in Cornwall, not the over commercialised Heligan. Tree ferns are amazing, never seen such large ones. Not a place for those who are not sure footed nor those whose main priority is a café (there isn't one)

Potager Garden, located near Constantine and a bit of a drive from Falmouth, is a delightful working garden modeled on the French 'potager'. Rescued from dilapidation by its current owners and renovated by volunteers, it features highlights such as a 30m greenhouse and a popular veggie cafe. The garden also offers plants for sale. This social and environmental project has transformed an abandoned plant nursery into a charming kitchen-come-subtropical garden with outstanding food.
Quite the story to this place, how it was rescued from being derelict and now thrives as a place for people to come together. The staff are super helpful and friendly, the food is simply amazing. A warm welcome, great service and truly delicious vegetarian food in a beautiful relaxed setting. The greenhouse is lovely, with regal snoozy cat - always a win in my book. Vegan options available, like the poke bowl with crispy glazed tofu that I had. The cakes are also well worth saving a little room for. And the coffee was top notch too. Practical mention for the well kept, spacious car park too. I hope to visit again, as it’s always pleasing to find a proper hidden gem like this. Where we can bring our little dog too. Thank you!

We visited today (May 6th) to see the bluebells and walk around the grounds. This was our first time at Enys Gardens and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were in Port Isaac when I found out about Enys Gardens. Made the trip to see the fields of bluebells and garlic. Even though it was raining, we were not disappointed. Absolutely beautiful carpets of flowers. The smell of the wild garlic was amazing, even through the rain. We'd love to go back and see the bluebells before they were knocked down from heavy rains.

Being an avid gardener I love visiting local gardens and living in Cornwall I'm lucky enough to have so many to choose from. Yesterday's garden was Enys in Penryn Cornwall. If you head towards falmouth going down through Penryn you'll see a small sign for Enys so eyes open. Plenty of parking once you get there and the prices were good too, Adults only £8 and seniors £6 kids £2 and family is only £18. Great value for money. Oh and it's Dog Friendly. Brilliant. The gardens are lovely, it's got a rusty Cornish feel to it, plants of beautiful trees to look at, beautiful tall oaks, monkey puzzles to redwoods even a young 40ft redwood with a wisteria climbing through it. Pictures to follow. Lots of rhododendrons and dicksonias to walk though. Very small coffee shop with plenty of seating but I recommend taking your own lunches. Lots of places to sit and have a sammidge. They do do a lovely coffee cake though. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and perfectly located with a history that dates back to the 1300s. Amazing.

Solo traveler review Restaurant and bar Nice staff and professional however don’t ask why someone doesn’t want a starter. If I had wanted one I would have asked, I found this rude. Lovely young lady on the bar. Food Over priced and tasteless chicken supreme… also cold. Breakfast Perfect sat down in a quiet area and food was delicious Lovely staff Lunch Sandwich was lovely. Reception Lovely young staff but older man made me feel lower class and being told my car was charged so will encounter extra charges when it wasn’t and had been checking constantly was not acceptable. I had been telling various members of staff I was constantly checking it as the charging app was not working. Spa Lovely and welcoming nice treatment Getting changed in a toilet wasn’t particularly nice tho. Only one shower in a communal area.. Grounds Lovely nice and maintained Room Full of spiders but bed nice and comfortable

Lovely location and rooms. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. The breakfast, lunch and dinner are tasty and freshly prepared. My only gripe is the hair conditioner and shampoo, it is lovely and minty, but it dried mine and my colleague's hair out. I had to apply copious amounts of the conditioner and by the end of the shower it still felt dry. The shower is lovely though!

What an absolute hidden gem!The only regret is that we only stayed one night! Loved everything about it., breakfast &coffee is great as well as the drinks they serve at the bar, the staff are doing their best to help you with everything u require. Also booked a full body massage here and Poppy was beyond acommodating and attentive, hope to be back soon!

I booked this hotel over the summer and I thought the rooms were fantastic as was housekeeping. However, the service at the bar was terrible and this completely ruined our stay. My husband is diabetic and was served a full sugar coke one night at the bar. One of the bar staff realised this before we did, but decided not to tell us and instead covered it up by saying they had accidentally put it down as a full sugar coke on the bill, but he had been given a Diet Coke as he had requested. We later found out that this was a lie as my husband’s blood sugar spiked dangerously high and this was the only possible explanation. It was a real shame as this completely spoiled what had been a really relaxing holiday.

Stunning suite. Decorated beautifully. Grounds are stunning. Walks were lovley. Room number 6. If you're looking to upgrade. Bed comfortable. Plenty of wardrobe space. Great hotel of you love golf. And want to relax. We are not into golf. And only stayed here for 2 nights. As we were doing a little tour round Cornwall. Food was superb. If your wanted a more relaxed atmosphere have a little walk to the ferry boat.

We stayed one night during our South West Coast Path walk, and while we didn't love the trek up the hill from the ferry location, we loved the room and hotel. It's very classy looking, which was intimidating at first given we came in dirty and in hiking clothes, but the staff treated us very nicely with no attitude. Our room was super comfortable, with a tub that was great for after our hike, and robes to lounge in. It was very quiet and we slept well. Dinner and breakfast were both very well prepared and we enjoyed them very much. There was good variety of choice including vegetarian options. On their web site and on booking dot com, you can buy a package that included both, and it was an excellent deal. We would definitely stay again, and for more than just one night!
Michael S — Google review
We stayed with our dogs whilst walking the SW Coast path. We booked BV Hotel for our last night as a treat - we were very disappointed as the place felt tired. We were in a very dated old room which didn’t reflect the price of £200 for the night. We went to treat ourselves in the spa after walking a long way - what a disappointment! A pool, outdoor hot tub and sauna that’s it. The outdoor hot tub was more of a warm tub… both ourselves and several day guests got out after a few mins to ‘warm up’ in the sauna. The Sauna was nice - good size. We decided not to eat at the hotel due to our overall experience so walked ten mins to the Ferry Boat in which was excellent Breakfast was good overlooking one of the greens. Overall, although the staff were great, we would not stay again or recommend due to the very dated room, lack of atmosphere and poor spa facilities.

Park & ride
In these small towns, utilizing Park & Ride schemes can be highly beneficial. Instead of relying on boats, residents and visitors often choose to take the bus, which offers a unique open-top experience. The drivers are friendly and the journey is fast and seamless, offering stunning views of Falmouth Harbour. With a single ticket purchase, passengers have unlimited access to the buses throughout their trip. Priced at only £7.50, this includes parking and transportation for up to seven people.
Park for free and pay for a return ferry ride. Great way to experience Falmouth! The ferry staff are also very polite and will help you on and off the ferry if needed.
R D — Google review
Lovely way to see the city from the river. Parking directions were good, spacious car park. There is no machine but a human in a boot taking only cash. Walking though a boat yard was interesting. Luckily, we didn't wait long for the boat. The 15 min ride was great, it had a viewing platform on the top. On the way back there were a few food or coffee shops near / on the pier which made it convenient to wait for a boat if you miss one. I saw a boat leaving so I calculated that it would be back in 30 min which was perfect for having a cup of tea.
Petra V — Google review
This gets more expensive every year ! £25 for a family ticket, cash only and last boat back 5.30pm Used a few times before but at this price on 07/08/25 we decided it was just to expensive. Took our chances in town and parked on a side street for free with a short stroll in.

This was a lot of fun. Loved the trip in. Recommended as a way of seeing Falmouth and the estuary on the way in. Dog friendly Tips - was cash only. Took us by surprise too. There is a Sainsbury’s close by with a cash point - take a note of where to catch the ferry back. Lots of boats leaving from the quay so it can get pretty busy
Doug W — Google review
Its not cheap.. at a tenner a head but to be honest it's an easy way to get into the heart of the town in 15 minutes and your car is safe. It was lovely to get out on the water even for a short sail and if you want to do something different I recommend it!
Paul M — Google review
I find in these small towns that Park & Ride schemes are better to use. Although we didn't use the boat, we used the bus, which turned out to be an open topper. The drivers were friendly, the bus ride was quick and smooth and we enjoyed great views of Falmouth Harbour. The ticket allows you to ride the bus as many times as you like, and the £7.50 was good value (it includes parking and the bus up to 7 passengers). The bus stops at the Prince of Wales Pier, with the town centre just around the corner

Nestled along the serene banks of the Helford River, Durgan Beach is a hidden gem that invites visitors to unwind in its tranquil surroundings. This picturesque cove is particularly dog-friendly, making it an ideal spot for furry companions to explore rockpools and enjoy some beach fun. The beach's secluded charm ensures a peaceful atmosphere even during summer months, allowing you to soak in the beauty without the crowds.
Such a beautiful hidden gem of a beach! Short walk from a conveniently located National Trust car park (free parking for National Trust members). There are no shops nearby, so carry with you what you need for the day. On a sunny day it was like a slice of the med. Dog friendly also. Easy access into the sea

Lovely little beach! Dog friendly all year round! Car parks cheap at £2 all day and all goes towards the upkeep. Nice 10 min down hill walk to the beach from the carpark. When we visited a part of the path down to the beach had collapsed so be careful but looked like it was in hand and being repaired.
Matt D — Google review
Fabulous dog friendly beach. It was very busy the day we were there but still lovely. No facilities so cross your legs! It’s a steep walk down to the beach from the car park so probably it great for people with mobility issues. Car park is £2 for a few hours or £4 for the day. Bargain!

Sheltered hamlet on the north shore of Helford River. Calm, clear water for bathing.
Simon C — Google review
The beach is shingle or gravel as are all the beaches in this area of the estuary. Ideal if you own a dog but not if you want some peace and quiet. The water is quite shallow if you are a none swimmer. There was a primary school on the beach! Now is a private residence.
Ewan B — Google review
Unspoilt Cornish cove, popular with walkers. Very limited facilities, which is part of the appeal, although some reviewers may drop stars for that? Basically a toilet and small ice cream outlet! Cars are not permitted in the village - you need to park in a National Trust car park at the top of the winding lane. Could be tricky for wheelchair users - the only way to the beach is a rough path, or on the lane itself. Parts are steep. Lovely views as you descend and a sandy/pebbly beach to greet you. Sea perfect for a dip if you don't feel the cold! Dogs welcome.

A nice beach 🌊🏖 just ourside of Glendurgan garden🌳🌴. The children liked playing in the rock pools 🦀, we had a relaxing afternoon. Nice display in the National Trust shop/information center very interesting to read about the history. We enjoyed the ice creams 🍦 from there (National Trust prices but they were tasty). Would recommend a visit especially if you are already visiting Glendurgan garden.
Pink U — Google review
Not a bad place but nothing to excite. Not much sand but lots of rock pools for kids to get in and out of. Hunting under rocks for crabs was fun. However, little place for ice cream is a traditional cornish RIP off. Tiny tiny icecream for £2 and near impossible to find a bin to put the waste in. Car park is at the top of the hill so a bit of a walk down and up, not that that is bad, but after a time on the beach with tired kids, it's not fun trunching back up the hill. Views however are lovely.

Maenporth Beach is a charming, sheltered beach located just a few miles from Falmouth. It features an east-facing sandy cove nestled between small headlands, offering shallow and inviting waters that are perfect for families and dogs. The beach provides amenities such as a cafe, toilets, and a car park, with the option to hire various watersport equipment. During peak seasons, there is a dog ban in place to ensure the comfort of all visitors.
A beautiful wide open beach with lots of space. The bay is very flat and you can walk out into the water for a hundred meters or more without the water getting above your waist. The waters seem very calm and warm. There are lots of caves and rock pools to explore along the sides, as well as a nice walk that follows the coast on either side. There is a great cafe and ice cream shop just behind the beach with clean toilets and amenities. It is also a dog friendly beach as long as you are respectful.

So sad. We came here in the spring and the lad serving was so nice - couldn't do enough to help. It was his 18th birthday and we had a lovely chat, then bought three pictures and got them framed. We live locally and are moving house so went back a few weeks ago to buy some more pictures - to be greeted by the lady behind the counter of the empty shop SCREAMING at me to put a mask on. I would point out that this was before the government mandated mask wearing agin so there was no legal requirement for this. I explained that I am exempt from wearing a mask as I have extremely bad breathing difficulties, but my husband had a mask on. This was not good enough. My general advice to the owner is that if you treat your (fully vaccinated) customers like they are carrying the plague and scream at them when they try to some in - they go somewhere else. As for me - I will never set foot in this place again on a point of principle.

I am finally sending a review for Falmouth Cornwall Art Galleries. We purchased a lovely painting for £200 and it was sent on to us two wks later foc. It was packed well. We checked it and it was fine but a few a few wks later still in the box still packed still upright. We discovered the frame at left top corner was separating. We immediately contacted Cornwall Art Galleries. We have been in contact several.times since several emails too. To resolve this. For some expression of apology. But all calls go nowhere. Noone responds. We spent £200 and I think they should have offered to pay for frame to be closed. We were going to purchase tgew sister picture to this from their shop. But will find it elsewhere now. We are not impressed with Cornwall Art Galleries Falmouth.

The Charles Darwin Plaque is a historical marker located at various sites around the world, commemorating the places where the renowned naturalist and biologist Charles Darwin made significant discoveries or contributions to science. These plaques serve as a tribute to Darwin's groundbreaking work and his impact on our understanding of evolution and the natural world. They are often found in locations that were pivotal in shaping Darwin's theories, such as his research expeditions, residences, or places where he conducted experiments.
This plaque on the corner of Fish Strand Hill and Market Street records the arrival in Falmouth of Charles Darwin on board HMS Beagle, 2nd October 1836. This was the conclusion of Darwin's epic voyage, which began on 27 December 1831 from Plymouth. Quite possibly both Charles Darwin and Captain Robert FitzRoy would have come on shore at Fish Strand Quay, up the same steps used by Lieutenant Lapenotiere in 1805 when he arrived to report the naval victory at Trafalgar, when Lord Nelson died in action.

There's a short (0.75 mile) walk around the 'pool' some of which is on a pavement but about half is on a road so expect to meet a car or two. Just of the end of the lake is Swanpool beach which is home to a café and small watersports center (mainly for renting non powered water apparatus like kayaks). There's a large pay car park and some limited free road parking.

Next to one of Falmouth's beaches (watersports, cafe, parking and lavatories), this is a peaceful oasis offering a little walk observing various wildlife...mainly swans, ducks and coots.
Afric N — Google review
Quiet, peaceful , lovely walk around the lake , stop off at beach cafe for cuppa or ice cream.

Lovely view. With ducks and swans and yes even the not so common sea gull 😂. But seriously just a nice place to chill out or go for a little walk.

Park
Glasney College Field is a serene and historically significant site, featuring the remains of a boundary wall from a 13th-century monastery or Abbey. Visitors can take a leisurely walk around the river and viaduct, enjoying the picturesque surroundings. Despite some instances of fly tipping, it offers a peaceful escape and serves as an important part of local and British history.

Peaceful hidden green space with amazing history & great local community helping maintain it.

Not much to do that's set up, but lots of space to walk dogs and/or play something. Since not many people use space here.
Aaron 1 — Google review
Not just a part of local history, but also a major part of the history of Britain. Shame there is not much to see.
Doc F — Google review
Nice little walk around the river and viaduct, bit of a sun trap in the valley. Very pretty , except for some fly tipping 😔.

Historical landmark
This barometer, dating from around 1875, was supplied for the benefit of local fishermen in Flushing to help them predict impending storms and avoid going to sea in dangerous weather conditions. The scheme was initiated by Admiral Fitzroy, well-known as the former captain of HMS Beagle, who took naturalist Charles Darwin to the Galapagos and elsewhere, eventually leading to his theory of Evolution. Fitzroy later became a pioneer of weather forecasting, when he realised the connection between atmospheric pressure and weather, which could help save the lives of fishermen and other seafarers. Firstly through the government Board of Trade, then through the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Fitzroy personally funded the provision of many storm barometers in fishing harbours around the coast of the United Kingdom and the Flushing barometer is one example that has been preserved.

A plaque dedicated to those who sailed on the HMS Forte during WWII. A nice gesture at an awesome viewpoint of the Falmouth harbor. Definitely worth a visit when I Falmouth.

Nice small garden, use this area for Cornish Wrestling during the Penryn fair day. The war memorial needs some attention since the front right stone slab has come loose. Remember to clean up after your dog if you visit here!
