Sumida River Kitchen is a restaurant located in the Taito district of Tokyo, near the famous Sumida River. The area is known for its historical significance and modern developments, with 26 bridges spanning the river. The restaurant offers Indian curry and Asian cuisine, with a focus on serving safe and organic food to customers. Visitors have praised the flavorful dishes, including Halal ASEAN food made with organic herbs and vegetables from their own farm.
Last day in Tokyo, I visited Sumida river kitchen with my family. I ordered 3 Curry combo which came with black pepper chicken curry(spicy), keema curry (medium) and beef curry(mild), soup and pickles! I really loved that ginger sauce that you can add into the curry or clean your palate. Mom ordered vegetable dry curry and dad ordered Pa gapao (Thai chicken). Food was very delicious, good amount of food and very affordable price compared with Seattle.. Staff were very kind and helpful! Also you need to check it out the items they selling! Homemade organic plums and spices. By the way, this restaurant is located in Asakusa! Couple minutes walk from from Sensoji temple/Kaminarimon. I really had a great time, highly recommended ❣️

Chanced upon this little restaurant next to Sumida river. It served Halal ASEAN food and used organic herbs and veggies from their own farm. The hot lemongrass tea was fragrant. The deep fried chicken with balsamic sauce was delicious. The mutton keema curry had authentic Indian taste. The deep fried Thai shallot served with the curry was crispy and tasty. The onion ring was very well done. We were offered Sakura tea which was exceptional. They also sell home made spicy sauces! Must try!

A good halal place near Sumida river. I didn’t know it was halal until I checked their place in-person.

The dry vegetable curry is a masterpiece, and the best curry I’ve eaten outside India. I could eat ten of them. The spice paste is fresh, they sell jars of it at the back, and they obviously know what they’re doing. Go, you won’t be disappointed!

Delicious food and very close to Asakusa. We had the spicy black pepper chicken and the Thai chicken sausage omelette - both were fantastic. Vegetarian and Halal options, too.

It was HALAL and delicious! My friend and I were really satisfied when eating there! Definitely recommended for people who love good food and want to eat halal. Although they also serve alcohol, their food is halal :)

Lovely, small and quiet cafe and restaurant.. The food was one of the best I have had in Japan - recommend the fried aubergine in soya sauce and veggie curry. Both delicious.

Cafe
Suke6 Diner is a charming canal-side eatery with a relaxed atmosphere and stylish decor. This diner offers a delectable selection of Western-style breakfasts, brunches, and cocktails. From morning until late afternoon, patrons can savor homemade sausages, smoked fish dishes, and freshly baked bread from the third floor bakery.
I had a wonderful experience enjoying a classic English breakfast at this lovely place I randomly ran into. Everything was cooked perfectly — from the crispy bacon and golden hash browns to the rich, flavorful mushrooms and perfectly runny eggs. The baked beans and grilled tomatoes added a comforting, traditional touch, and the toast was served warm and fresh. The presentation in a pan was beautiful, and the portion size was just right without being overwhelming. The cozy atmosphere and attentive service made the meal even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a delicious and satisfying breakfast that set the perfect tone for the day — I’ll definitely be coming back!
Shu S — Google review
The avocado toast was delicious and my wife gave very good comments about the omelette. Staff is attentive and genuinely nice. Prices are average and this could be a great alternative if you are looking for western-food options. You might need to wait around 10-15 mins to get a table, but is worth the waiting. You will even find Japanese locals eating there as well, which is a good sign!

The best breakfast in Asakusa (Western standards). We really loved the bread the croissant as as the coffee. Definitely worth to check out before exploring the city! Super friendly staff too! Highly recommend

A modern but simple diner, with I'd say a European kinda feel interior and an excellent music choice adding to the atmosphere. Breakfast is plain simple & delicious. Friendly, attentive and helpful staff. What else can I than to enjoy the food there .....

Unique and beautiful restaurant with a mix of Western and Japanese inspired breakfast. The avocado toast was superb and fresh. The sweet potato and chocolate muffin…I wish I could have brought a dozen home! Staff were friendly and I loved learning about the history of the location. Honestly, next time I visit Japan I’m staying in Asakusa so I can eat here again!

Chanko restaurant
Hot pot restaurant
Kaiseki restaurant
Tomoegata Chanko is a popular restaurant located in the sumo wrestling area of Tokyo, known for serving hearty chanko-nabe stew, which is a staple in a sumo wrestler's diet. The restaurant offers various types of chanko nabe, including lunch specials that come with additional dishes like sashimi, rice, salads, and croquettes.
The best restaurant we've been to on our trip! We have a 7 month old baby and the staff were beautiful and so helpful. When we came in there was a child seat set up and ready for him to use. He soon fell asleep and they brought out a bouncer for him to sleep in with a blanket. They also brought out some books for him to play with if he woke up. Such friendly people and the food was amazing. Healthy and comforting with delicious flavours!!!
Tijana S — Google review
We were a bit underwhelmed by the quality. The sushi was a bit dry and the tempura was average with some bones. After reading other reviews, however, it seems like Chanko is what we should have ordered. The restaurant itself was nice and the staff friendly so I'd probably give it another shot.
Ben R — Google review
After being recommended this restaurant by a Japanese friend, I had to try this restaurant out for my first experience with Chankonabe - as it is a popular restaurant for Sumo Wrestlers training nearby. The host were very friendly - and even for non-Japanese speakers - it was possible to order anything from the menus with relative ease. I enjoyed the chankonabe a lot (Can’t remember which one I ordered exactly) and as someone that can feast on larger portions of meals, I felt like this was more than satisfying of my appetite. Everything in the meal itself was full of flavour and required no further flavouring - even the vegetables were soaked with flavour from the broth. All of the diners were seperate into their own areas for optimal privacy to enjoy their meals and were able to converse without it too loud - even being in close proximity. I would definitely recommend this place for 1st timers looking for an authentic chankonabe experience and consider coming back to this place upon my return to Tokyo.
Orem K — Google review
In sumo town Ryogoku, you should eat as sumo wrestlers do. And that means you gotta try Chankonabe! Chankonabe is a kind of protein-rich stew that sumo wrestlers eat in vast quantities in order to quickly bulk up in size. They usually contain an assortment of vegetables and various kinds of protein. It is therefore essentially a hotpot/shabu-shabu sort of meal and can therefore be considered relatively healthy, as long as you are not eating it in vast quantities, I suppose😂 Ryogoku is full of Chankonabe restaurants opened by retired sumo wrestlers, each with their own unique recipe and ingredients for that perfect broth. But perhaps one of the best places to try this traditional sumo dish is at Tomoegata Chanko. Despite the rather "Minas Morgul-ish" lighting of the entrance (lol), you will find that the interior is nice, warm and cozy. You can choose from 4 different Chankonabe broth styles which differ in broth base and ingredients (and thus correspondingly price as well). Seeing as I only had a short time in Japan, I tried the most expensive option (Tachiyama w Prime Japanese Beef) and was very impressed. The beef came in clean, large sheets and when cooked tasted very nice with a good amount of marbling. The other ingredients were great to complement the entire dish as well, especially the daikon radish and konjac. Overall, made for a very hearty and satisfying meal👌🏻

Sumo and Chanko Nabe!! We came here for dinner after watching a sumo match. It was just around the corner from the stadium and the reviews looked good so we decided to give it a try! They seated us upstairs and on this particular evening we were very much the only westerners in the room. The service was very kind and considerate. We had 2 servers who each spoke a little English and the menu had plenty of photos so we made it work. Even with the explanation of how to cook the soup yourself on the burner in front of you they were kind using hand gestures and explaining. It was a ton of food so go hungry!! It was a fun experience as well as delicious. The music is particular as it’s the singing which happens after a sumo match, we had just been so we understood but that might be a surprise if you don’t know what the style of music is.
Shannon F — Google review
I’m not the biggest fan of soup, and one of the meal sets that I ordered included a big bowl of soup filled with vegetables and meat. It was actually pretty well. I know if I wasn’t feeling well, or had a cold, I’d definitely come over to this place to have there hot soup. Soup lovers would defintly enjoy this restaurant.
Lindo K — Google review
Literally the best food and service experience ever. (It also felt super special knowing that actual sumo wrestlers eat here.) We came to meet with an old friend who lives in Japan. This will be one for the books for me. Thank you for the warm hospitality!

We ordered the premium beef chanko nabe set and it came with vegetables, tofu, konjac and mushrooms in a soy sauce broth. We also added their house made fish balls, which were sooo flavoursome. Overall, it was delicious and great value for money. Highly recommend;

Unagi restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Restaurant
Komagata Maekawa Asakusa Main Branch is one of the oldest and most renowned unagi restaurants in Japan, particularly in Tokyo. The restaurant offers classic Japanese tatami-style seating on its 2nd and 3rd floors, providing a picturesque view of Tokyo Skytree and the Sumida River through large windows. Their specialty dishes include Kabayaki and Unaju, which are prepared using a unique sauce that has been perfected over 200 years.
Top of the teppanyaki cuisine, had wine pairing about 250USD per head. Quality food and have our own private room, had to book 2 month ahead..
Samuel C — Google review
Food is good but maybe a bit over priced. Service is excellent. Tables and chairs, for this price level, can be improved.
Richard L — Google review
FOOD 3 Unagi and side dishes are delicious, but I felt slightly overpriced even taking into account the setting and view. ¥2,000 for cucumber and eel is expensive. The day we went, we were told that we could only order the Large Unagi Bando Taro (their branded unagi) for ¥9,600. We did not have a choice. There are two other unagi shops in the area that don’t have the view, but provide better value at around ¥5,000 to ¥6,000 per unagi box. SERVICE 4 Professional, gentle ladies in kimono served us and frequently refilled our cold tea. There is some history to this restaurant that is outlined in the menu. ATMOSPHERE 5 The restaurant is located along the Sumida River. You’ll need to remove your shoes, change into slippers and proceed to the 2F tatami mat dining room which has a lovely view of the river. OVERALL 3.5 Overall, I think it’s a great place to take a date or have a family gathering that feels luxurious, but I probably would not go out of my way to visit again.
Barry L — Google review
Very good service with slippers and attentive staff. Atmosphere is great since the 2nd floor where the patrons sit can see the bridge and tokyo skytree. But we were seated in the corner table and couldn't see anything. The grilled unagi was good, but not that good to command 30k yen for 3pax. The unagi were cooked well but lacks flavor. There is a small bottle of teriyaki sauce i can add to the grilled unagi, but it didn't wow me or my family with me.

11/2/2017, eel and rice both taste great, no lining up here but needa spare more time for this restaurant coz food process time is too slow, wait at least 45 min for the ¥4,212 small eel rice set. Compare with あつた蓬莱軒 , i would vote for this one.

Excellent eel bento set. Very tender and juicy. Rice also very fragrant. Had the grilled eel liver and cold sake - very good combination. Staff very friendly and respectful. Restaurant itself is charming with an elevator and tatami floors. Highly recommended - do make reservation in advance otherwise need to wait a long time.

Yakitori restaurant
Kushiyaki restaurant
Restaurant
Toriki is a renowned Japanese restaurant that offers carefully selected native chicken and seasonal vegetables, cooked over Bincho charcoal fire to bring out their full flavor. The warm wood decor and open kitchen counter create a cozy atmosphere for diners to relax and enjoy their meal. With a second location in Kinshi, Toriki maintains its high standards of serving delicious yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and has even been awarded one Michelin star.
First time trying omakase yakitori, it was really good! You can tell the chef is a master at his craft and everything is cooked perfectly and well seasoned! A little expensive but worth trying for the experience. Customer service is great, everything is explained in English. The restaurant has a nice vibe too!
R C — Google review
The only reason why I gave 4 stars is Kawa (chicken skin) was not available. It is on the menu and we made RSVP for when they open. But no Chicken Skin even if I wanted to order it. The place accept English speaking customers. The chicken was really really tasty. Chicken was extremely FRESH Everything tasted amazing! Defiantly more then the ordinary street Yakitori 100% recommend Chef was friendly and some English. Again, the food was amazing flavour, bincotan was used, The Tskune (ground chicken) was 100% the best I have ever had. The liver was also stand-out delicious. Bill was not expensive. It was only 200000+ for 2 people, we also order maybe 4,5 beers and plum wine and 5,6 additional skewers after the course was done.
Tazz H — Google review
Toriki used to be a Michelin-starred yakitori place and somehow played in the first division of yakitori in Tokyo. The reality is different, and I feel bad writing about it, but the place is completely down. The quality of the service is amateurish, even though the owner, an old man who runs the show, tried to support them. The skewers somehow lack the charm of charcoal, and the overall experience is too long and boring. It seems like Toriki's best times are already behind it. Hopefully, they can find their way back to their previous glory days.

Food are very unique and taste very good Chicken liver are very creamy! Definitely will visit again 👍🏻

An absolute delight and a great introductory restaurant to chicken sashimi made from jidori chicken. A quaint and small restaurant in Sumida, just a short walk from Kinshi park. You'll notice the store right away from the small seat outside and the long thin vertical shutters that hide the front of the shop. There's been a lot of talk about how the staff is unwelcoming or impatient, but I didn't get ANY of that when I visited. We had a 5:30PM reservation, they greeted us in, we were the first to be seated, they had one intermediate English-speaking staff who advised us on the menu. We ate amazing food, enjoyed the ambiance, quietly discussed taisho's technique, thanked them for the meal, left cordially. There's three dishes that I want to point out, the chicken sashimi, the soup, and the chochin skewer. You would not even known that the chicken sashimi was raw unless you bite each bite in half and looked at the soft pinkness beneath. It just tasted like good clean chicken fat and flesh. The outside of each skewer piece is lightly cooked white and a tender bite is all it takes to rip through the dish. The chochin skewer, which is not part of the dinner course and must be ordered ala carte, is a must-try while you're here. The bulbs of yolk just pop in your mouth and coats the chicken in yolky goodness. Don't think of your cheap discount eggs, these are yolks that ready to rat straight out of the shell. It's practically an oyakodon on a stick. The chicken soup is a curse of sorts. It's just good clean chicken dashi, nothing more, but there's a clean and subtle flavor that just seeps through you. I've been going crazy trying to find something even remotely like it here in the states, but they just can't get it even 1% right. It was like I was drinking the soul of the chicken. Now, excuse me as I monologue about Mad Magazine while staring broodingly out a window.
B. L — Google review
The set menu was amazing. Eight servings of chicken (thigh, gizzlet, quail egg, breast with wasabi, liver, chicken wing and chicken meatball) coupled with four vegetable dishes. Food, service, ambience and presentation were excellent. We got a front row seat to the head chef working his magic. He was very friendly and even explained each dish to us and the best way to eat it. The restaurant seats about 16 people including about 10 at the bar-style seating. It was a very intimate atmosphere. Well worth the money, which was a bit on the pricier side but well worth the excellent experience.
Henry T — Google review
Toriki is an authentic yakitori place, around the 6000-8000 yen price range for a course meal for dinner including drinks. They also have a great selection of sake to chose from, Karakuchi recommended for pairing with meats. For such quality food, the price is under what I would expect. Their style though is less creative cuisine and more focused on bringing out simple authentic flavours clearly, so come knowing what to expect. The course is also well planned for the pallet, I found the increasing depth of chicken flavour throughout the meal deeply satisfying, and the yaki veggies were as delicious as the chicken.
Ian L — Google review
Amazing yakitori with perfect doneness. Not only chickens but I enjoyed all the seasonal vegetables as well. And you need to be ON TIME no matter what. Punctuality is highly appreciated in this country but here it’s a must. Not showing up on time (even when just one person of your group is late) you will be asked to give up your table..! But this is because the chef cooks everything by himself and it’s worth it!

634 is an upscale fine dining restaurant situated on the observation deck of Tokyo Skytree, Japan's tallest building at 634 meters. The restaurant offers a creative blend of Japanese and French cuisine with stunning panoramic city views from 345 meters above ground. Guests can enjoy breathtaking sights, including Mt. Fuji on clear days and a dazzling night view. The round restaurant provides regular dining tables as well as teppan tables where a private chef cooks multi-course meals at personal grills.
Amazing atmosphere! That is the first impression when one steps in to this restaurant. Located on the Tokyo Sky Tree observation deck, this restaurant offers incredible arial views of the city. We walked in without a reservation, after viewing the sunset, and the staff was very accommodating. Offering us a table after a short wait. The food is delicious with rich and complex flavors. Every course was a treat in both presentation and flavor. We enjoyed an incredible dining experience. The food and the atmosphere were all spot on. It was a terrific place to wrap up an evening.

If you use Google map to get to this restaurant, Google doesn't explain very well once you exit the subway. So You need to copy and paste this instruction then you will be able to find the entrance to the ticket counter of the restaurant. After you get off the subway and exit B3, You turn left and look straight ahead where you'll find escalator going upstairs. You take the escalator which there are five or six escalator to get to the top. After you reach the top you want to stay to the right side and continue to walk and stay to the right side of the path. Just keep on walking until we see the West entrance see photo. If you're not sure where you are a map of the area and go towards the west side entrance. After you enter the West side entrance, you would go in and the first left turn you would take and then the check-in desk it's on your left side. This is one of those restaurants that you would only visit when the weather is good. Due to the popularity and difficulty of booking seating for the restaurant. The weather plays a big part of your able to enjoy your million dollar view or You are in the fish tank view. As to the food , they were okay for the price that you pay. But without the view it's overly pricey for the food that you're paying.
Totoro T — Google review
I had an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience at Skytree in Tokyo on Sunday, June 30th, at 5 PM with a party of seven. Despite the ease of getting to the building and following the signs to the check-in desk, the atmosphere was chaotic and overly busy. After checking in, we endured a 10-minute wait in line just to get to the elevator to the restaurant. Upon arrival, the restaurant was practically empty since it had just opened, but the service was shockingly mediocre. We were given a preset dinner menu explaining a 7-course meal costing a ridiculous $190 per person, excluding beverages. Although we were offered an upgrade to Kobe beef for the main course, no one bothered to ask us our preference when the meal started. The food was an utter disappointment. The presentation was a joke—dishes seemed to be haphazardly thrown together on a plate with no consideration for fine dining. Portions were miserably small, and the flavors were bizarre and bitter. The meal was so unappetizing that I couldn’t even finish any of the courses. Describing this food as Japanese prepared in a French style is an insult to both cuisines. To add insult to injury, we were forced to pay an additional fee for the viewing deck, which we never got to properly enjoy. After our disappointing meal, we attempted to access the viewing deck, only to find it completely overrun by a crowd of hundreds. The glass floor, meant to offer a breathtaking view from 350 meters above the ground, was entirely covered with confused, aimless people. It took over an hour to escape this claustrophobic nightmare due to only one working elevator and a single exit route. For nearly $230 per person, I left feeling robbed, still hungry, and utterly irritated by the appalling lack of organization and abysmal customer experience. It’s outrageous that there wasn’t a separate access area for restaurant patrons. To top it all off, the view of Tokyo was dull and gray due to the weather, which, while not their fault, just added to the misery of the whole experience. Overall, Skytree was a complete waste of time and money. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place at all costs if you’re looking for fine dining or a decent view of Tokyo.

I had high hopes for Musashi Sky Restaurant in Tokyo, especially given the 10,000 yen deposit, required formal dress code, and menu prices ranging from €135 to €185 per person (with many main courses incurring additional charges). I was expecting a premium fine dining experience comparable to Jules Verne in Paris or Atmosphere in Dubai. Sadly, what I got was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had at this price point. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt cold, minimalist, and uninviting—not at all the elegant or atmospheric setting you’d dress up for. But the real issues started with the food and service. I had requested a fish main course in advance, as I don’t eat meat. What I was served was a fried, low-grade fish in a basic tomato sauce, with bones still in it. It was not a proper fish dish by any fine dining standard—more like a cafeteria meal than something you’d expect from a high-end restaurant. I couldn’t eat it, and when I politely explained why, the only response was a brief “sorry.” No replacement, no alternative, no effort made. The disappointment continued with the non-alcoholic wine pairing. Of the three wines, two were decent, but the third was completely undrinkable. I asked if I could simply switch it for one of the previous wines I had already tasted and liked, but was told that would come at an additional charge. Again, at this level, you expect flexibility and genuine hospitality—not rigid policies and upselling. In short, the food was underwhelming, the service was inflexible and dismissive, and the atmosphere was forgettable. Musashi Sky may have a great view, but that’s where the positives end. If you’re looking for a true fine dining experience in Tokyo, I recommend you look elsewhere. This was a costly mistake I won’t repeat—and hope others can avoid.

This is definitely an experience I will recommend anyone and everyone to try and do. It is a fancy restaurant, so you need to dress accordingly, no shorts or sandals, look the part people. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by staff and you are taking care all throughout the dinner. They explain every dish as they come and make sure everything arrives on time and it's fresh. The food is superb. The combination of flavors and textures is a delight to your senses. Yes, it is expensive but it was totally worth it. We were in Japan for our honeymoon and I wanted to surprise by wife with a nice dinner. The restaurant did not disappoint!! And I will plan to come back again on our next trip. Also, the view is amazing!!

My recent visit to Restaurant 634 in Tokyo left me utterly underwhelmed and deeply disappointed. The initial shock came when we were required to pay an exorbitant hold of 88,000 yen upfront to hold the reservation (for 4 people) before even tasting the food. We had to pay again at the end of dinner, and will apparently be refunded the initial hold amount in a couple of weeks. The meal itself was nothing to write home about. Despite the fancy presentation, the taste fell flat, lacking the depth and complexity one would expect at such a high-end establishment. The food looks decent but the taste definitely wasn't up to Japanese standards. It's disheartening to know that for the same price, one can indulge in far superior degustations elsewhere in Tokyo, such as that at the Park Hyatt. Adding insult to injury, the service left much to be desired. When asked what flavour the flavoured tea was, the waiter replied "tea flavoured". While the view of Tokyo was admittedly impressive, it was overshadowed by lackluster service that failed to elevate the overall dining experience. To top it off, the disappointment was palpable enough to bring my husband to tears. He really wanted to make it an enjoyable experience for his parents who were visiting Japan for the first time. In summary, Restaurant 634 may have a picturesque view, but beyond that, it fails to deliver on its promise of an elevated dining experience. Save your money and explore other culinary delights Tokyo has to offer. If you want the nice view, just buy a ticket to visit the top of the Sky Tree, walk around the platform and eat elsewhere.
Vicki — Google review
Booking on the online website was difficult to navigate but they are extremely accommodating and responsive. Not every part of the meal was mind-blowing but when it started to get to the main dishes it continuously improved. The tilefish and the black beef tenderloin were the absolute stars of the shows. The food had a very intriguing mix of the ingredients (ie, potato ice cream) and the courses led my taste on an interesting journey. I have a dairy allergy and they were well prepared to substitute my meal. The service was attentive, fast, and extremely pleasant. I loved the attention to detail. The atmosphere is really what makes the place spectacular. The views were breathtaking and I would come back again even if I don’t eat at the restaurant. However, sharing a bottle of wine overlooking the views of Tokyo is a once in a lifetime experience so I would highly recommend to come here for that. Lastly, in the men’s latrine there is a very nice view but in the women’s Layton sadly there is no view of the city.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Kaiten Sushi Toriton is a popular sushi spot known for its fresh and affordable seafood. With ingredients delivered directly from Hokkaido, the restaurant attracts long lines of eager customers. The plates range in price, allowing diners to choose according to their preferences. Unlike other conveyor belt sushi restaurants, at Toriton, patrons can grab plates directly from the belt without hesitation.
What the freak is happening here?!?! This place is awesome!!! My kid and I are carousel sushi fanatics and this place is that on steroids. First the fish was really fresh. First thing my kid said was, it’s so fluffy and not stringy! 😹 The salmon melted in your mouth. They have a chopped tuna with egg yolk and OMG the flavor of that yolk was so good with the tuna. Scallops were sweet with a good size. Second they do these fish specials every few minutes and they were a lot of fun. They ring a bell and the whole staff start yelling and screaming and clapping and like Vanna White on Wheel of fortune they strut the special around and then you raise your hand if you want it. The whole presentation was just so much fun for us. Lots of energy, lots of smiles and the “specials” were special. Had a tuna hand roll with sea grapes. Marinated salmon which was so flavorful and was like a triple size piece of salmon. Third the staff were super cool. We ate Twenty plates, mostly ordered from the touch screen and they were so attentive and friendly. Even with my horrible Japanese and touristy ways they were patient. My daughter says this is more like carousel signs (no sushi on signs on the carousel) but by far the best place we’ve been to so far. Wait time could be scary but we got seated after 30minutes. They have a really cool LINE mini app that tells you when your number is called so you can wander and it tells you when to head back. For the life of fish and fun, DO IT!

Disappointing experience at Kaiten Sushi Toriton (Tokyo Skytree Solamachi). Food: The sushi tasted excellent, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The chefs did a great job preparing everything as quick as they could and professionally. Easily the highlight of the visit. Service: The chefs themselves were polite and efficient, but the overall operations were poorly managed. I waited about 90 minutes to be seated, and once inside, the conveyor belt was completely empty. Everything had to be ordered from the touchscreen, which slowed things down even more. On top of that, the prices were expensive for a sushi belt restaurant. I've gone to numerous other places that charged roughly half the cost for each type of plate. Atmosphere: For a “kaiten” (conveyor belt) sushi place, it was disappointing to see no sushi actually moving on the belt. The long wait times and the lack of that lively sushi train experience made it feel flat. Overall: Great tasting sushi, but the expensive prices, long wait, empty conveyor belt, and disorganized system made it a frustrating experience. Would not recommend this restaurant unfortunately.

Very good quality and variety of fish and shellfish. Even the fried chicken is very delicious and juicy. Worth the 60 minutes wait for the table

There are good and great sushi. This one the great. Very fresh and good price for this great quality. Recommend people who are reading this. You wont be disappoint. You can order by the tablet. 10/10 from me

Good sushi chain from Hokkaido Worthy with fresh ingredients but depends on each menu I would recommend: - Salt and lemon Engawa - Melt in your mouth - Akami, Tuna meat - fresh and tender - Hotate is a must! - it's fresh, bouncy and sweet - Uni - good and sweet, not smelly - Sweet shrimp - sweet and tender - Ikura and salmon roll - savory and tender - Steamed eggs - tender and lots of seafood chunks - Tempura - they had Hotate tempura! So big, sweet and chewy - Hotate soup (seasonal) - miso soup with scallops meat. It's good that easy to order via tablet and can choose small rice and with or with wasabi. Chef and Staff are very nice. Veryyy long queue need some patient lol

Inside the skytree mall, this kaitenzushi is extremely affortable and offers good quality options. Of course the shari is not outstanding but generally speaking this is 7/10 sushi with a 10/10 price. We had several plates with multiple pieces (including unagi, hokigai, hotategai and chutoro) and the total was around 50usd per person. Recommended.
Gabriel F — Google review
We had to wait 80 minutes but it was worth it. Food was great and service was great. Everything tasted so fresh and you can switch the menu to English. Really easy to use! The Seared Tuna, Seared Flounder, and Tuna Salad were our favourites.
Christian V — Google review
Compared to other sushi chains out there, I feel Toriton has superior taste for a marginally higher price. I recommend the Seared fatty salmon, its super delicious!! The atmosphere is also special as once in a while the chef will make a special item and ring a bell. After that you can order directly from him. I didn't order but it looks good. For this branch, the conveyor belt isn't in use so the chef will hand it directly to you.

Izakaya restaurant

Halal restaurant
Gonpachi is a small chain of upscale restaurants in Tokyo, known for inspiring Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. Each location has its own unique theme and atmosphere. The Asakusa branch, conveniently located near Kaminarimon and Azumabashi, offers a great riverside view from the second floor. This izakaya restaurant serves yakitori and other casual Japanese pub-style food, with a gluten-free menu available.
10 out of 10 experience! Kenji was the best waiter! It was my first time to try many of the Japanese dishes and he guided me the entire way. He was so kind and patient with me. Food was excellent and the Sangria was top notch! I definitely recommend this place, especially for Americans trying authentic Japanese food for the first time.
Shelbie B — Google review
Gonpachi is a great spot for lunch (sit upstairs with a view of the river), but note that it will get VERY busy around lunch with big tour groups, so the sooner you get there the better. They had some great lunch special options for those that wanted to try a little bit of everything. Otherwise they had some great tempura rice platter that were sizable but not too big for lunch. Feel free to also order à la carte and order some grilled skewers which they’re known for. We had two groups of 20 people come in at once so the service was incredibly slow but otherwise it was a lovely meal.
Natalie C — Google review
Good views of the river. Good for big groups. Felt like I was in America. They were blasting American music. I think this spot would be good if you don't want to go too far out of your comfort zone or are gluten free or vegetarian. If you are looking for something authentic, this is not the place. We did the lunch set and it was $16 and a good deal. The sashimi tasted super fishy, one of our tempuras wasn't fully cooked, it could have been better. They accept credit card and spoke good English.

Right around the corner from our hotel, Gonpachi is a wonderful yakitori restaurant that we couldn't get enough of. We have now been here twice in a week! From the tuna & shark cartilage in sour plum sauce to the yakitori sticks and grilled black cod, we savoured every bite amidst a vibrant atmosphere and to the sounds of the lively staff members greeting guests. The handmade soba is delicious too! We enjoyed sitting at the bar chatting with Mindaka, who walked us to the door at the end of the evening. The second time we were here, Yuuka was very attentive and provided friendly service, which we appreciated very much. Highly recommend!

loved my solo dinner here! they have a veggie / vegan menu with so many options- i would have loved to see photos on the menu or have clear descriptions so i knew what to expect of the dishes but i was happy with what i ordered- the gonpachi tendons (tempura rice bowl) was delicious/my favourite part of the meal & the sushi was different & delish too (I got yam + avocado). It’s a very cool vibe, upmarket and amazing to see them cooking in front of you etc! thank you to kenji who served me & was very helpful :)) i think you have to reserve before & it would be a gorgeous place for a date night - solo or with someone special !

Small restaurant with delicious food and very good service by attentive staff. We were served by Hesha. The longer you sit, the more you wanna eat and you just continue 😋 the artisanal handmade soba is a must-try and so is the large variety of yakitori. The next time we visit Tokyo, we'll definitely come back to this restaurant. Btw, we came for a 2nd time to eat other menu items. Lastly, thank you to chef Mindaka and Yuuka who happily served us 😃

My long-held desire for a truly relaxed meal and drinks experience in Tokyo was perfectly fulfilled at Deus Ex Machina in Asakusa. This spot is an absolute haven for unwinding. While the menu might be concise, the quality of the food certainly doesn't disappoint. It's the ideal place to slow down and savor the Tokyo vibe.

Stopped off at this coffee shop for a snack and beverage on our way back to our hostel. The coffee and snacks were delicious and it had a retail shop within the cafe that seems to sell Californian apparel and surf boards. Wonderful cafe in a beautiful location with great coffee. Having loved the previous Deus cafe location in Harajuku I had high hopes for this cafe, was not disappointed. Amara Indian Restaurant, located in the heart of Tokyo near the Skytree, offers a delightful dining experience. The restaurant is known for its impeccable service and friendly staff who are accommodating to dietary preferences such as offering halal dishes. Despite being small, the restaurant provides a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere. Guests have praised the delicious Indian cuisine including samosas, paneer tikka, naan, and mango lassi.
Nice welcoming place, curry was good and the cheese nan is arguably the best I've had. Good price and decent food with no wait when everywhere else had 40 min wait. I would recommend this if you visit the skytree for food after

Food: outstanding, first it’s curry and I’m pretty sure it’s Indian/pakistani type curry. But this curry was great! Very well spiced and seasoned and even the drinks were spot on. 10/10 recommend anyone in the Tokyo area to go and try. Ingredients were fresh even the salad was crisp, no complaints here. Service: amazing, not only very respectful to myself and my wife but even our 3 kiddos. I also liked that the server knew the food was good so there was no need to ask us how’s everything lol. Some restaurants ask you this 5 times and it’s annoying. Atmosphere: this is the only downside, it’s in the Tokyo sky tree so it’s busy. It’s Tokyo the entire city is busy, but it’s the best spot in the sky tree. For any naysayers out there please fact check me.

After visiting Tokyo Skytree, we looked for a halal restaurant nearby. As we were passing by, someone called out and said they served halal food and that their chef was Muslim, so we decided to give it a try. The waiter was very friendly and mentioned he had been living there for over 15 years. The food was excellent, though the chicken pieces were quite small, not even a mouthful! I’d recommend serving slightly larger portions for those with an average appetite.
Kam I — Google review
The food today was delicious. The spicy chicken curry equates in heat to medium wing sauce level. The mild prawns were ok, but only two shrimp with tails. The Nan was fabulous and I couldn’t stop eating it. Overall a great meal at a great price with a great location under the Skytree.
Stacy D — Google review
My friend and I were debating whether to get Japanese cuisine or Indian. I’m glad we went with Indian! And I’m glad it was at AMARA restaurant! It can be hard to find food as a vegetarian here in Japan, and here there was a whole vegetarian section on the menu! The dahl and vegetable curry were good. I could’ve used a little bit more spice (heat) but I suppose they have to cater to all palates. The service was excellent. If you’re visiting Skytree this is the place to eat.

Steak house
Japanized western restaurant
Restaurant Katayama Higashi-Mukōjima is a Japanese-Western eatery that focuses on meat-centric dishes, particularly their renowned steaks. The restaurant, named after owner Yukihiro Katayama, exudes an old-school charm in its working-class neighborhood setting. While the menu features Western-influenced items like omurice and deep-fried cutlets, the star of the show is the dabincho steak, prepared with precision using a patented cutting technique.
Quite enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere. The steak is good as expected but the quantity I ordered was a bit too much then I can handle. Overall it's enjoyable dining there.
Vinnie H — Google review
I was a bit surprised because it includes triple carbs: rice, french fries, and spaghetti. I felt quite full. Next time I’ll choose the smallest portion of meat. As for the taste, it was perfectly suited to my palate, and the tenderness was just right.

Awesome steak in town! Certainly not a touristy place, but if you want to eat here, you do have to come before it’s open time at 11am. I came here at 11:10 on weekdays, the restaurant was already full, and the queue was 14 people! Luckily they made the waiting less painful, we can wait in another room with tv and aircon, and they will take our order first. I had to wait more than 1 hour to finally get my share, but it’s worth the wait.. the steak is thick and tender, the ton-katsu was also very delicious. If you’re nearby and have some time, definitely worth to check out!

Sasaya Cafe is a trendy and contemporary eatery that caters to a diverse range of tastes, whether vegan or not, by offering wholesome plant-based meals and desserts. Their menu features dishes made with organic ingredients sourced from local farms that are free of pesticides. The cafe's spacious and wheelchair-accessible setting near Tokyo Skytree provides a unique dining experience.
Great cafe with friendly staff and very tasty food. Great vegan find! Had taro special, served with a few different salads including my favourite delicious ginger greens. It came with rice and soup. Husband had the tempeh battered with breadcrumbs, again his dish came with a tasty soup, rice and salad. Both came with a drink of choice, I had a Japanese herbal tea and he had a coffee. Everything was delicious, tasted fresh. Big portions as well! Really nice ambience and the staff helped us out with the menu to translate in English.

Total score would be a 4.5. What you eat and what you pay for comes for a very good price. I am highly lactose intolerant so places like this are heaven for me. *EDIT* Don't go on weekends. The staff are overwhelmed and they have a terrible system if you want to find a seat. A really bad experience and I wouldn't recommend it. A really spacious cafe with a terrace area that is dog friendly! A wonderfully healthy menu to choose from - there's a little something for everybody! The Hummus Sandwich had lots of flavour and was surprisingly filling. Same with the Breaded & Fried Tempeh with Rice! I've tried a lot of plant based dishes that really lacked flavour, but this cafe was different! Highly recommend for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foodies alike! The interior was a bit humid/hot. That was my only complaint from my visit. But I got used to it after a while. Can't wait to go back and try their desserts!

After a lovely stroll through Oyoko Waterside Park, my mom and I enjoyed a delightful vegan meal at Sasaya Cafe. There are two areas for dining: the sun deck and main room. We chose the latter in favor of air conditioning~Although their food menu is limited, their meal sets are absolute and fulfilling! Asides from their standard menu, they offer a specialized day meal set—I had their curry which was divine! While we sat and chatted, 40s jazz music played serenely in the background. All in all, Sasaya Cafe is a perfect place for dining!

Halal restaurant
Tokyo Chinese Muslim Restaurant offers a unique blend of Japanese and Chuka-style (Chinese) dishes, providing a halal dining experience. The restaurant serves up delicious halal Chinese cuisine, with certified beef mince used in dishes like mapo dofu instead of the traditional pork. Their lamb skewers are richly seasoned and slightly spicy, while the boiled dumplings with lamb transport diners to the streets of Kashgar or Xi'an.

Review: Chinese Halal Restaurant The beef noodle soup had delicious beef and broth, but the noodles lacked the usual flavor I enjoy from other halal Chinese spots. The chicken wings didn’t work well for me, as the sweetness was overpowering. However, the restaurant offers a prayer space and has a nice ambiance, which adds to the experience.

A good things: The food was nice; it was good enough. They have a halal food inside. The room is quite spacious, so it would be nice if you had a big family. The portion of food is significant so that you can share it with others. Convenience toilet and prayer room. Things that need to be improved: There is a full smell of smoke inside, the price is slightly high, and waiting for food is too long. Maybe I will consider going here again many times.

The toppings on the 兰州拉面 are too sparse. It tasted not bad though. 羊肉手抓饭 is amazing. The rich, fatty flavor of the rice is incredibly delicious. The chive pancake is amazing too. It tastes like gyoza, and goes good with gyoza dipping sauce too.

Disappointing experience. The place was visibly unclean with sticky floors from the start. We ordered: Fried Dumplings – tasted like watery cabbage, no flavour at all. Beef Noodles – barely any beef, completely bland. Chinese-style Egg Fried Rice – made with Japanese sticky rice, not authentic at all. Sweet and Sour Chicken – just a few veggies tossed in a random sauce added to fried chicken pieces. Even the drinking water tasted strongly of chlorine. The hygiene was unacceptable, the waitress was seen mopping the floor and then serving food. Overall, a deeply disappointing and unhygienic experience. Visitors should think twice before coming here as this place fails both in food quality and basic cleanliness.

Fully halal restaurant. The food was delicious and the lunch set menu price was very affordable. Highly recommended! I ordered the beef in soy sauce lunch set menu. They also have a dedicated prayer area (although open for all to see). Nonetheless, I still appreciate having the possibility to pray here. I arrived at around 11:45am on a weekday and so there weren’t other customers yet. Must visit for delicious, halal Chinese food.

Higashi-Mukojima Coffee-ten is a charming café in Higashiyama, known for its cozy atmosphere and delicious offerings. The owner, a local resident, has successfully created a welcoming space that has garnered a loyal following over the years. One of the must-try items is their renowned no-bake cheesecake, which has been recognized as one of the best in the city by local authorities.
Very relaxed and cozy atmosphere. The people working there are very nice and welcoming. My son had the cream soda (with real melon). My wife had the baked cheesecake with the earl grey ice tea. I had the no bake cheesecake with blueberries and the cold brew coffee. Everything was very delicious! A good way to end the afternoon.

We enjoyed our time here. Affordable:breakfast menu price reasonable for what you get. You can take other things that’s not in the breakfast menu suggestion. And the menu is in English. The coffee in the breakfast menu can be taken either light or hard and it’s just a long coffee(like Americana) . But you can order cappuccino for the price of the cappuccino in the menu . Service and staff: Amazing. Staff were friendly and service was fast. The man speaks English. Atmosphere: cozy and quiet and in a nice location. Would love to come back!

They offer a delicious Hanuka honey soda at affordable price. Their special cheese cake is also so yummy and good price. The atmosphere is cozy and modern. Highly recommend !

Nice cosy little cafe in Higashiyama. The non baked cheese cake had the perfect flavor and right amount of tang for a cheese cake. The baked cheese cake was a bit creamier than I prefer but was nice nonetheless. Their cappuccino is interesting. Drip coffee with cream rather than milk froth, and cinnamon stick.

SEKAI CAFE OSHIAGE is a blessing for travelers with dietary restrictions, offering fully halal and vegetarian/vegan options. The Japanese-style menu includes soy-based karaage, Japanese curry, taco rice, and vegan desserts made with 100% halal ingredients. Even meat-eaters were impressed by the authentic flavors of the plant-based dishes.
My favorite cafe around Oshiage. Good for working with PC because it is not crowded even in weekends and there are enough outlets, I can feel relaxing to do job here rather than starbucks. If you are a muslim, you can have halal food and prayer room is available.

Okonomiyaki restaurant
Monjayaki restaurant
Donguri is a local eatery in Tokyo's downtown area that offers Monjayaki, a traditional dish made by mixing flour, water, seasonings, and various ingredients before frying them on a griddle. The restaurant provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere for both locals and foreigners. Despite the limited English menu, the staff goes above and beyond to assist non-Japanese speakers in understanding the dishes. Visitors can enjoy not only the delicious food but also engaging with friendly staff and other guests.
Fantastic もんじゃ焼き and お好み焼き. We visited during a busy period without a reservation and had a short wait - but it was absolutely worth it. The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. The chef-owner was incredibly friendly and patient with my broken Japanese, even taking the time to teach me a few things. It made the experience even more memorable. Highly recommended!
Yong W — Google review
We had the best time ever! Initially we came in and weren't sure if we just crashed a party, but instead we got to join one instead! We had a fantastic time and the owner was so pleasant and welcoming even working with our minimal Japanese. The food was great and we got to try some of the local craft beer which was very good! He convinced us to try the Monjayaki and even though we first were going to get okonomiyaki we took the plunge and ordered more! Can't say it enough how much this place means to us now and how places the staff and the patrons were and made us feel like family. We will be back and will always look back at Donguri fondly! どうもありがとうございます 🫶🏽

This is such a lovely small restaurant in Ryogoku. The owner, who is also the cook, recommended us delighful dishes from the menu and theIr local IPA beer from Ryogoku. We tried both mojaiaki and okonomiaki, but also some other dishes with octopus and mussels and even chicken ( so you can have something for any taste). The atmosphere is cozy, food is great and the guy running this restaurant makes you feel very welcome.
Monica A — Google review
Staff were very friendly and welcoming to a group consisting of 2 non-japanese asians and 2 white people. Even though it was a local restaurant they helped us a lot when it comes to what to order and with the cooking (which is normally done by the customers at their own table). The owner was very nice and even gave us a free gift. The atmosphere of the place was very nice and even the local customers were friendly towards us foreigners. One elderly gentleman gave one of us a serving of his yakisoba randomly. Love the place definitely would come again.

The shop has a very nice atmosphere. We came here looking for okonomiyaki, which the owner helped us pick the best. We stayed here for a few hours, which quickly flew by as the host was very friendly and explained all kinds of traditions from the local area. It was the perfect stop for the last days of our trip, and I hope we will be able to come here again. ご説明いただきありがとうございました

We visited Donguri, and even though we don’t speak Japanese, the owner welcomed us with such warmth and kindness. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic food and genuine hospitality! ありがとうございます!

Located near the Sumida River and in operation since 1913, Restaurant Azuma offers a unique blend of European and Japanese cuisine. The upscale establishment is renowned for its superb seafood dishes and particularly famous for serving one of the finest omu-rice in Tokyo. Patrons rave about the delectable Wagyu steak, which is served with a butter knife, as well as the delightful beef steak burger patty.
This place has been spammed with bad reviews. Anyones has been to this place loves it. My husband and I go every time we go to Tokyo. It’s one of the best restaurants in Tokyo for its incredible experience with the Chef and his wife. Very thankful for the nice service and wonderful food. The omurice is a must try. The beef steak, which was like a burger patty was very fresh with a delicious crust. Every little dish was something special and delicious. Next time we are looking to try the chefs tasting menu.

This place has unfortunately been spammed with bad bot reviews. Run by a husband and wife team, Restaurant Azuma is a pleasant experience. It feels like you’re visiting someone’s home and are being invited into their kitchen. They offer plenty of tasty dishes, but the steak (Wagyu beef) goes above and beyond. I wish I knew to order it the first time I visited! The delightful duo clearly takes pride in their work, and they also take the time to make their food properly. I plan to learn a bit more Japanese next time I visit so that I can understand more of the chef’s spirited and charming stories. There aren’t many restaurants like this around anymore, and I’m happy I had to opportunity to experience it.

We had such amazing night with oto-san Chef and super friendly oka-san. Hahaha 🥰 We loveeee the tasty chicken cutlet and their signature omurice! They serve with fresh salad, noodles, japanese pickles and tasty hot seaweed tea. After we finished the food, we have fun conversation with the chef also (yes, in our limited language and body sign haha). We enjoy it so much. Great food and great experience. Oishii 🥰
Pieta H — Google review
This is one of the oldest (started in 1913!!) omu-rice joints in Japan. The chef claimed that they are the one who started to open the omelet on top of the rice, instead of wrapping the rice with the omelet. The restaurant has a very cozy feel to it. Small counter also allows you to chat with the chef and watch all the omu-rice action right in front of you. The restaurant is quite pricey. The omu-rice costs about 3600yen and is quite good, but not the best. I think is a great experience in general. However, I am not likely to go back simply because of the price.

I love this place. Actually they serve european food, but japanese style. So you can eat steaks or seafood. I have to say it is not the cheapest restaurant at this corner, but the quality is amazing. 江戸麺 熊八 is a popular ramen shop known for its delicious and unique offerings. Customers appreciate the generous portion sizes and the option to customize their orders, such as adding extra noodles or rice. The atmosphere inside the shop is welcoming, with friendly staff members providing excellent service.
Our family of 5 stopped in on our last night in the area. The gentleman working was very helpful with how to order using the machine. We tried 3 varieties of ramen. Soy with egg, soy without egg, and the Dandan noodles. I asked the gentleman about the Dandan noodles and he showed us the best way to eat it. Add rice to the remaining broth with a touch of black pepper. It was the best dish of the night. As we prepared to leave, it started raining, and the gentleman asked if we had umbrellas. I replied 1 and some rain coats. He then turned and returned with 2 umbrellas for us to take home. Talk about steller customer service. Shigeno Coffee Craft is a small and cozy cafe that offers a variety of coffee, cakes, and desserts for dine-in or take away. The owner, Minegishi, with over 30 years of experience in the coffee industry, is passionate about sharing his knowledge of beans and brewing techniques with customers. The cafe's specialty Shigeno Blend is recommended for those who enjoy a strong and bitter flavor.
The owner / operator welcomed us into the shop when we arrived. We never felt unwelcome and though he does not speak much English we were able to communicate through a translator. The coffee selection is vast and he made some recommendations for a light to dark roast tasting. I really enjoyed the house blend as it was rich and dark without any bitterness. The others were very enjoyable as well!

I had such a wonderful experience here. I ordered an iced matcha drink with vanilla ice cream in it. I was pleasantly surprised to see there were yummy frozen matcha bits in it. It was so yummy. I also ordered a pour over. It was very delicious and a visually clean coffee. Everything was so good; even the ice water was delicious! (You do need good water to make good coffee, so it makes sense why the coffee is so yummy!) I sat in the cafe for a bit and enjoyed conversation with the owner (barista) and another customer. The owner made me a small paper crane as a gift. He also shared with the other customer and me a new recipe he was working on. He was so kind and hospitable. I also ended up buying some beans and one cup coffees to make at home. It’s a small and cute space and perfect for an afternoon stop. I hope that I can stop by again sometime. :)

I stumbled upon this charming little café on my way to Tokyo Skytree. I’m not sure if it qualifies as a “hidden gem,” but it certainly felt like one. 🥹 The café is tucked away in a cozy house and features a counter bar with just six seats. The barista, a kind-hearted gentleman with 42 years of experience in the coffee industry, made the visit truly special. Today, I tried the Peru Uchuari Geisha and Ethiopia G1 both exceptional in flavor. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it an experience I highly recommend!

Great coffee for locals and tourists alike. Has both an English menu and Japanese menu. Don’t skip on trying the coffee black at first you’d might be pleasantly surprised if you are used to drinking coffee with milk and sugar. Small dining area. Set up like a bar. 5/6 chairs available at a time.

Very good drip coffee, with a wide variety of beans at different price points. The owner's recommendations are solid, and the cafe has a really intimate vibe, with a only a few bar seats available, such that you are watching the whole brewing process unfold in front of you. Prices are possibly on the higher side, but given this is pour-over coffee, that is to be expected. I'll be visiting again if I'm in the area. For reference, I got two coffee's and a desert for ¥2100.

🍝 My order: Lunch menu Teriyaki Chicken Pizza plus all you like bread, drinks, curry rice and salad 1680¥ ----- Food 4/5 The pizza was excellent with thick dough and delicious seasoning. However, I would have liked a little more meat on the pizza. I also loved the buffet idea and an interesting selection of salads that I did not know like that from Austria. The salads were very tasty and I can definitely recommend trying this lunch menu! The food was also very speedily prepared and of course the all you can eat buffets will shorten the wait even further especially if you are very hungry 😉 You will find a variety of drinks to choose from, starting with iced coffee or tea to hot versions of the same, over to fruit juices, you will not want for anything! Atmosphere 4/5 Modern and functional, it gives an energetic vibe and being right next to the river you can also enjoy the river whilst eating though you will be wanting for excessive greenery as everything but the river is mostly concrete. Cleanliness 5/5 No complaints, everything was very clean. Service 4/5 Speedy and polite, but interaction was limited to a minimum through every order being done digitally. Has a modern vibe, yes but also means barely any human interaction, which I prefer.

Went to this popular cafe, which was once recommended by TimeOut, with my friends for breakfast. . I got Pudding and Layered Cafe Au Lait. The bouncy pudding was covered in caramel sauce, elevating its bittersweet taste. As for my Cafe Au Lait, it was Iced Coffee with Sweet Milk. It had a smoky and robust flavour, with a layer of cream at the bottom creating a creamy texture. One of my friends ordered Houji Tea Chocolate Cake and Hot Vienna Coffee. The chocolate cake had a fragrant houji tea aroma and a firm, rich texture without being overly heavy. However, the chocolate flavor seemed to overshadow the houji tea flavor. Another had Peach & Pear Shortcake and Hot Earl Grey Tea. The shortcake was expertly layered with cream, sponge cake, peach, and pear. The refreshing flavors of the peach and pear complemented the cream subtly, making a delightful combination. . When we arrived at the cafe, there was a queue, indicating its popularity. The cafe had a spacious layout and was adorned with numerous vintage items, creating a charming ambiance. The shelves filled with books added to the overall bookish atmosphere, allowing customers to enjoy the tranquility of the cafe.

There is an almond in the middle of their lemon tart and you can taste roasted almond bits in their pie crust, which I’m not a fan of. Makes it a bit too sweet. Also they give starbucks level of ice for their cold beverages and too less liquid. However, the atmosphere here amazing with a great collection of magazine. Really hope they can work on their food and beverages but definitely will come again to study / work.

With its mismatched vintage furniture and shelves of artsy books, this place is just the epitome of a stylish Tokyo cafe. I think the coffee is pretty good, and they have a huge selection of gorgeous teacups they use to serve their hot drinks. (The desserts are always nice, too.) From afar is pretty big inside, so if you go on a weekday there are lots of seating choices, but beware! On weekends it gets so busy that people line up in front!

Spacious & stylish cafe tucked away in the corner of Kurumae / Asakusa. First off, the ambience and quality of service was impressive - the staff were attentive and all smiles! The furniture is comfy too which makes it easy to while away time reading a book or otherwise. If design is your thing, there’s a large variety of magazines & books available to read for free. The espresso was pretty nice with a rich, deep flavour. Couldn’t ask for more. There’s also a florist in the cafe if you fancy buying flowers for the journey back home. The sweets & snacks also look worth trying to perhaps that will be on the menu for the next visit!

Gorgeous cafe that looks like something out of a glossy style magazine, tucked away in a residential street 10 min walk from Asakusa Station. We would have never found this place had we not gone looking for it, it's an absolute gem. Beautifully styled, it shares the space with a flower shop. This added to the ambiance and aroma of the cafe. Coffee is excellent and served in delicate china cups, and the cakes are delicious and make a perfect reward after braving the crowds at the Senso-ji Temple and Sky Tree. The cafe has a sense of calm and tranquility, and it's perfect for recharging you batteries. We visited soon after they opened and the place filled up very fast, mostly very stylish and very young locals going about their daily lives.

SiSiMARU is an izakaya restaurant located a short walk from Komagome Station's east exit on the JR Yamanote Line. Recently, they have introduced a lunch menu, offering a variety of options. One notable choice is the grilled fish set meal, which allows diners to select either mackerel or salmon. The dish comes with salad, hot balls, sashimi, rice and miso soup.
Excellent value for money at lunch. The Izakaya-style food comes with a multitude of small plates with attention to both taste and looks. At ¥880, the grilled fish in particular is oustanding. Also available on weekends, last order 14:00.

(Translated by Google) I had the pork and eggplant stir-fried spicy miso set meal + grilled salted mackerel. ●Stir-fried pork and eggplant with spicy miso...The rice was flavored with the aroma of miso and the spicy seasoning, but it was a very ordinary taste that didn't exceed my expectations. Also, the way the vegetables were cooked was sweet and the cores remained. ●Salt-grilled mackerel...The skin was crisp and the meat was juicy, but I could barely taste the aroma of the charcoal. I thought the store name was completely misleading. In addition to the main dish, it comes with sashimi, salad, hot spring eggs, and miso soup, so it's filling enough to eat, but the taste is average. By the way, the miso soup was too salty for me. The customer service attitude of the staff was as stated in other people's reviews. People who are looking for courteous customer service may not want to go there. Thank you for the meal.

(I couldn't use electronic money.) Lunch at an izakaya. It's nice to be able to see robatayaki being grilled in the open air, which gives it a live feel. I don't know if it's only during lunch time, but even though it's a restaurant, it gives the impression that it doesn't have much energy. However, the fish served was excellent. It has a charcoal aroma and is well-cooked, with a crispy skin that even I, who don't usually like to eat skin, enjoyed it. I think grilled fish is limited to charcoal. Unfortunately, the sound of the clerk's sneakers dragging can be audible. I wish he didn't have to go through the trouble of wearing non-slip sneakers...and for that matter, he's super unfriendly. Sweet Rose is a charming Japanese restaurant tucked away in a cozy alley near The Hikifune line. The attention to detail is evident in the handmade porcelain bowls and the specially cooked rice, which takes about 30 minutes to prepare. The menu features delightful dishes such as sashimi, beef stew, and miso-marinated pork, all served with delectable salads and pickles. Even kids can enjoy special meals here.
Fine dining coupled with a warm welcome! This small gem is hidden down a quaint alley not far from The Hikifune line. The attention to detail starts at the handmade pottery see for the dishes and made just next door. The restaurant specialises in rice cooked in special clay pots to give a delicate taste. The sashimi was beautiful! The beef stew hearty and the pork marinated in miso delicious. Even the salads and pickles were wonderful. They prepared special kids meals for our boys with burgers. They have a clear English menu which is a help. The husband and wife team were lovely and so patient with our boisterous boys. Unagi restaurant
Kawaguchi is a beloved unagi (grilled eel) restaurant in Old Tokyo, known for its special sauce recipe that has been passed down for over seventy years. Established in the Edo period, this eatery is popular among locals and visitors alike. One of their recommended dishes is the shirayaki-ju, which features charcoal grilled eel seasoned with salt on top of rice and served with a soy-sauce-based sauce.

This unagi (grilled eel) restaurant, which was established in the edo period (17th century), has been really popular among many people. My recommendation is shirayaki-ju (charcoal grilled eel seasoned with salt on top of the rice with soy-sauce-based sauce). It is a very rare meal from a customer's request. The tastes of the eel and the rice are well-balanced and the texture of them is so soft.

Yakiniku restaurant
Kazu is a unique yakiniku restaurant that offers a special experience with its focus on serving freshly procured offal and A5 grade red meat grilled on a charcoal grill. Located conveniently near Oshiage (Skytree Station), it provides an easily accessible dining option for locals and tourists alike. The restaurant has two floors with ample seating, making it suitable for private dinners and parties. Despite the language barrier, the staff are accommodating, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all diners.
Kazu is undoubtedly the best Japanese BBQ (Yakiniku) in all of Tokyo. We are still dreaming of the pepper beef bowl! Located in Oshiage - a 5min walk from Oshiage (skytree) station, Kazu delivers fresh, delicious and an honest food experience. If you are visiting skytree on a day trip this place is not to be missed! My husband and I dined here three times during our recent Tokyo trip, each time we were greeted with enthusiasm and great service from everyone. If you haven’t experienced Japanese BBQ before, it is a cook your own meat style but don’t let this dissuade you, the staff are attentive and offer some assistance should you require it - especially when cooking meat cuts you may not have tried before. As foreigners, it can sometimes be daunting to visit more local restaurants but rest assured the food transcends any language barrier. An English menu is available for foreigners, otherwise use Kulikuli or google translate app. We recommend everything on the menu - the standouts are the pepper beef bowl - comes with fresh wasabi, spring onion and seaweed garnish to mix in with some dashi soup - choreshi (Korean) salad, cucumber and fresh tomato sides are all PERFECT! The meat is tender and fresh, lots of options for marinade and dipping sauces. The restaurant itself if cosy and traditional - store your winter coats and bags inside the wooden benches/stools to avoid any smoke smell etc. We highly recommend Kazu for all travellers wanting to experience a traditional Japanese Yakiniku! The food is well priced and the overall food is unmatched. Kazu should be on the ‘to do list’ for anyone planning a full experience in Oshiage/Skytree - it’s also very close to the Onigiri shrine (Takagi shrine) 🍙, also a must do.

This place is a must-try if you’re in Tokyo. Had a very “local” feel to it away from the tourist areas. The staff were very attentive and took time to explain the menu in great detail. The ordering is done via scanning qr code and the website automatically updates for everyone so you can use multiple devices at once. Very convenient! Lastly the food: simply amazing, every single thing we ordered was better than the previous one and I don't say this very often. One of the best restaurants I've ever gone to in Tokyo. The atmosphere is bustling and old fashioned, and I love it. The meat (especially the Kazu special short rib) were all really high quality and good. The staff were all really nice and it was really easy to order and request stuff because of it. They also have an English menu for any tourists coming here (including me.) You have to reserve a certain time to be able to eat here but it's not too hard to do, and it's worth it in the end.
Ryder C — Google review
8 days in Tokyo and we went here twice - our favorite restaurant in the city. The bbq is so tender and full of flavour, as everything is grilled over charcoal, not gas (very important). A little confusing how to order at first but the staff was very helpful and kind. Small place, full of locals. An absolute must if staying near Skytree tower.
Oskar E — Google review
A unique yakiniku experience as this restaurant specialises in hormones, such as all the innards of pigs, cows, chicken etc. At first I was reluctant to try however I’m grateful I did. This place doesn't have a high rating, but that's normal for Japan. Unfortunately, we were completely dissatisfied with our visit to the restaurant, although the staff was polite. There is no menu in English, the waiters don't speak English, and they didn't warn us about anything in advance, such as the cost of the table. There are no prices, or rather they are written in letters, which makes it impossible to understand them without a translator. We ordered sashimi, and it was absolutely tasteless. I have eaten fish so many times, and this was the worst experience. Hot tea was just water with no taste. Tuna sushi was like someone tried tuna and put it in a roll. Shrimp with tartar sauce brought one shrimp and no sauce. We paid 7 thousand yen for this. We have never eaten so expensive and tasteless before. I am not sure that we were charged a fair price, since I translated the prices, and such an amount could not have been. My review is as honest as possible so that other people can draw their own conclusions.

I do not like that we got a table charge for every one in the group AND, in addition, each of us was required to buy a bottle of water. Each paid 590 yen more, which is absurd in my book. Especially, we were not informed about the table charge beforehand. Only when seated were we informed of the drink requirement. No where did we see the price of each bottled water. The food is fine. I just do not like the unusual charge. Or, they could have stated somewhere noticable. It would be a bad business practice anywhere in the world, especially for Japan--a country known for its qualify service and fairness to travelers. Smoking seemed to be allowed in this place, as the smell was noticable.

LITTLE SAKE SQUARE is a popular spot for those who love Japanese sake. The bar offers a selection of 100 different types of sake from all over Japan. Had the Sunday buffet of all you can eat and drink sushi and sake. Sushi was good but limited. Sake was plentiful! Price was upped to 5000 which was a bit disappointing but for several hours worth it!
David B — Google review
(Translated by Google) Temperature: Around 22℃ (not humid, perfect for sake) Physical condition: A bit hungry (I ate faster than I drank) --- I made a reservation and visited "LITTLE SAKE SQUARE" in Kinshicho for the first time. This is a dream set that includes all-you-can-drink 65 types of sake and all-you-can-eat sashimi, horse sashimi, and eel, and costs 6,500 yen in cash (price varies if you pay with PayPay). I arrived earlier than the reservation, but they let me in. Last orders are at 9pm for food and 10pm for drinks. When I sat down, they called out to me to read the notice before I went in. All-you-can-drink sake was available from a lit-up shelf. First, horse sashimi and sashimi were served, and then if you bring a plate of refills to the counter, they will add more. The all-you-can-eat horse sashimi and eel are included in the all-you-can-eat, which is very luxurious. Personally, it would have been better if they had a sweet soy sauce-based sauce for the horse sashimi. In addition to sashimi, there is a buffet corner with fried horse mackerel, roast beef, boiled eggs, rice, and more. The boiled eggs are particularly delicious, and the rice is also delicious, so you end up eating too much and before you know it, you're full... Another nice feature is that they have Japanese pepper in the condiment corner. You can pour as much sake as you like from 65 types. They even have "Denshu" in there, which gets you excited! There is also a premium section where you can order "Juyondai" for an additional 250 yen, which is an irresistible option for alcohol lovers. This time, I ended up concentrating on the food and didn't drink as much sake as I would have liked... Next time, I'll eat less rice and enjoy the sake as the main course. This is a highly satisfying restaurant that is recommended for both heavy drinkers and people who want to eat a lot.

(Translated by Google) At first glance, it seemed like an "all-you-can-drink sake, all-you-can-eat sushi" restaurant, but I was curious, so I went in alone. First, I paid in cash. A seat was assigned, so I sat there, received an explanation, and started. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the sushi, but I was pleasantly surprised. The toppings were delicious, and the rice was soft and fluffy, with a subtle flavor that brought out the toppings. It's completely different from conveyor-belt sushi or the pre-packaged sushi you get at the supermarket. The side dishes were also seasoned to go well with the sake. The yolk of the boiled egg was especially delicious. The sake selection seems to change with the seasons. I came alone, but I enjoyed myself after receiving sake recommendations from various people. I think this restaurant offers more than you'd expect for the price. Since you can drink from small sake cups, it's especially recommended for women who want to try different sakes. There are no strange customers, and the staff are reliable, so it's a safe place.

Highly recommend to tourists this authentic Japanese restaurant, it is so different from any other restaurant in the world, I am very glad we paid a visit here! (Translated by Google) It's a restaurant where it's difficult to get a reservation, so since I live nearby, I often call to check availability. This time, my family and I went a little early, around 6 PM. Getting a reservation was quite difficult, but I agreed because I knew it was a high-end restaurant. I called ahead to ask, "Is it okay if we show up early if a table becomes available?" and they replied, "Yes, it's okay." We arrived just after 5:10 PM, but we waited at the entrance without anyone calling out to us. It wasn't until nearly 6 PM that my family asked, "Is your table ready?" that we were finally seated. The staff didn't offer any guidance or explanation during this time. The food was served very quickly, as if they wanted us to eat and go home quickly. While we were smoking downstairs, our food had already been brought to us. What was even more surprising was the service attitude. The female staff member in charge (with short hair and a navy blue outfit) lacked basic etiquette and kept sneaking peeks inside from outside the door, which was very unpleasant. They pressed the table call bell 5 or 6 times without even knocking, and when I asked them why, they didn't even use honorific language and were rude. Furthermore, while I was eating, the restaurant called and asked, "Is this Mr./Ms. XX (another customer)?" I answered, "No, we're already eating upstairs," but the same call came back. Don't they check the number before calling? I won't comment on the food, but the staff member didn't seem to understand what I was saying and was very rude. When I was leaving, I waited for about three minutes on the first floor, but no one brought my shoes; the staff member just stood there. I asked, "Excuse me, could you please get my shoes?" and they finally remembered and brought them to me. I will never go there again. It was a truly awful experience.

Kazusaya is a traditional Tokyo spot filled with Japanese Shitamachi passion, offering a glimpse of cherry blossoms, fireworks, and Geisha. The restaurant is known for its rumored tuna set meal, which features an abundance of tender tuna pieces and warm tuna soup. It's also considered an oasis for seniors due to its senior-friendly atmosphere and downtown pricing.

It's not very spacious, so you might not be able to get in when it's full on weekends. When I ordered hot tofu topped with hot tofu and tuna negima skewers, I received a whole tofu and two negima skewers with large pieces of tuna stuck in them. If you want to try different things, we recommend 2 or more people. It was busy at noon and I went there late so I was able to get in. Monjayaki restaurant
Kaeru Honpo is a unique dagashi-ya in Tokyo that offers traditional Japanese candy for grown-ups. This place also serves monja-yaki and okonomi-yaki, making it a great spot to enjoy some delicious food and drinks. The owner is known to be initially reserved but warms up to customers who make an effort to engage in conversation, especially in Japanese. The atmosphere is friendly, with the owner often chatting with patrons, creating a welcoming environment.
This is quite possibly one of the best bars I've ever been to. The regulars are great people to talk to and the proprietor is very kind and easygoing. I don't understand how it has such a low rating but do yourself a favor and ignore it. If you can speak Japanese they'll treat you with respect and provide great conversation. Their highballs are top notch as well.

Truly a unique and unforgettable place. The owner is the only person in Japan that treated us extremely rude and was really unfriendly. Even though we were very polite and the place says "Available in English", he would meanly stick to Japanese seeing that we can't understand, switching to English only to make unnecessary comments about foreigners or our country. Then, he laughed at us with a regular visitor. He stated that we won't be able to prepare the food on our own and never even cared to explain or show us. I politely thanked him for his service and we left his precious temple dissappointed, shocked and hungry.
Tymoteusz G — Google review
I walked into the shop greeted the man and asked for the menu and the man started speaking in Japanese only. So I gestured for the menu with my hands as how we would do when we can’t understand one another. The man continued to speak in Japanese with no reaction or handing me the menu. (He was speaking like I spoke to him in Japanese) Then I smiled and said “I’m so sorry I can’t speak Japanese but I’ll have a look at the menu”. Gesturing eating and menu again. Right after I said this the man spoke in fluent English saying “Why not? You’re in Japan and you don’t speak Japanese” I was taken aback that he could speak English. He had a very stern tone and a look of disappointment, while I smiled to avoid the rude comment and left the place. Language should never be a barrier for communication. I read a review saying that if you speak Japanese you will be treated well here. Treating someone rudely for not speaking a language is not acceptable. I hope people read this review to avoid such experience like I had here — regret not checking the reviews as this was near to my accommodation and experiencing this in less than 3hours of my first time in Japan.

Do yourself a favor and ignore the negative reviews you see here. If you read between the lines of any of them, you will find that the owner is much like the guardian you will find at the entrance to many temples. I get the feeling that even at his own expense, he is happy to scare away the timid and those who may not appreciate the tradition he is upholding and offering to share with you. It is after all his restaurant and his offering to the rest of us. I believe that if you persevere, you will find that he transforms into the most gracious and friendly of hosts, and besides, ..the food is amazing!! Since I have been in Japan, I have 'unlearned' a lot about what Japanese food is and is not. This is one of the places I will cherish for its authenticity and soul-satisfying food. Great food, great service, truly a Tokyo experience not to be missed!!

The owner of the bar was very unfriendly and hostile when we entered. We were not sure if he was joking about that we should speak Japanese and that we should cook by ourselves - but he would never let us in his kitchen ...?! He did not laugh at all though. (Translated by Google) I decided to try it because the reviews were high. I just wanted to have a light drink, so I ordered the one-plate evening drink set. I was surprised at how large one plate was. 1,500 yen (tax included) for 2 pieces of yakitori and 2 drinks is a great deal. There are 4 dishes in one plate, but the bonito didn't seem to be very fresh and had a fishy smell, the stewed food was so bad that even though I was hungry, I couldn't use my chopsticks, the fried chicken was freshly fried, but it didn't taste good either, and the salad was just average. Yakitori (2 pieces of Nankotsu) was served later, and although it was small, it was delicious. For drinks, I had draft beer. (The second glass is also draft beer) It's overwhelmingly voluminous and cost-effective, but overall the food is not good. Since the store had such high reviews, I wondered if today was a coincidence. Normally it would be 2 stars at this level, but I gave it 3 stars because the cost performance was good.

Tempura restaurant
Tempura Hasegawa is a renowned tempura restaurant in Tokyo, boasting one Michelin star. The traditional-style setting perfectly complements the exquisite food. Visitors praise the warm welcome and incredible dining experience, with some traveling specifically to taste the chef's creations. The pleasant service and handmade desserts add to the overall appeal of this counter-only restaurant, where reservations are required for an unforgettable tempura feast.
We stumbled on this find ! Googled tempura near me and voila. From the setting , to the warm welcome the best tempura experience of a lifetime. The food was incredible. Not to be missed.

A truly exceptional dining experience that significantly elevated our appreciation for traditional Japanese cuisine. The chef's tasting set was remarkably diverse and well-crafted. The fish tempura was among the most delicious I've had in Japan, while the eel tempura hand roll was absolutely outstanding. Throughout the meal, the textures and flavors continuously evolved, creating an engaging culinary journey. The portions were generous, leaving us completely satisfied. It was noteworthy that besides our group, the other two parties dining that evening were local regulars—always a good sign. The chef and the female proprietor were incredibly warm and humble. Despite some language barriers, they made sincere efforts to enthusiastically introduce each dish and express their gratitude for our visit. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone interested in experiencing authentic tempura cuisine. This hidden gem is truly worth seeking out during your time in Japan.

(Translated by Google) A tempura restaurant located 3-4 minutes walk from the south exit of Kinshicho. This is a popular tempura restaurant that has been around for quite some time. I made a reservation and visited on a weekday night. I think it's fairly easy to make a reservation. The inside of the store has a really old-fashioned feel, with U-shaped counter seats and small square-backed chairs lined up. Most long-established tempura, sushi, and soba restaurants have chairs like this. The course is probably around the mid to upper 10,000 yen range. The clam somen noodles came out first and it was delicious. After that, there were 14 tempura dishes. Start from Hatoshi. Tempura is eaten with salt instead of tempura sauce. It's fluffy tempura. In between, they serve critters like crabs and sea urchins, and the bowls are gorgeous, with sea bream tempura in them. Also, it was cute to see the Japanese shrimp appearing here and there in between the courses. I think it appeared a total of 4 times. It's you again! I want to scream, but I'm happy so I deal with it calmly. I had a choice of Tendon or Tencha for the final dish, so I chose Tendon. The shrimp tempura bowl was also delicious. The vegetables that came out along the way were delicious, and personally, I was very happy when the corn tempura came out. Considering the atmosphere, I would still be happy if it was a little cheaper, but it's nice to be able to casually enjoy slightly luxurious tempura, and each dish is delicious. The clam somen noodles that were served first had a delicate flavor that gently stimulated the appetite. From there, 14 types of tempura started. Starting with ``hatoshi,'' everything is served with salt. The batter was light and the flavor of the ingredients was strong. Along the way, bowls of seafood such as crab and sea urchin, and even sea bream tempura will appear, allowing you to enjoy more than just tempura. Also, what was impressive was the saimaki shrimp. He appeared many times between courses, and each time it was fun and brought a smile to my face. To finish off my meal, I had the choice of Tencha or Tendon, and I had the Shrimp Tendon, which was extremely delicious. The vegetable tempura was also carefully prepared, and I was particularly impressed by the sweetness and aroma of the corn. It's a little extravagant for the price range, but considering the quality of each item, I felt it was well worth it. (Translated by Google) It was completely different from any tempura I've had before. The batter is thin and the ingredients are perfectly cooked. All of them are delicious, but the abalone tempura topped with sea urchin is a masterpiece. In addition, the Tencha meal contains a lot of diced shrimp, giving it a very elegant taste. The tea is said to be blended at Tsujiri in Kyoto, which was also used at Kyosei (currently Yumatsu) in Ginza, where he trained. I had a choice of dessert, and I had red bean milk monaka. This was also homemade and so delicious that I would take it home if I could. It's a tempura restaurant, but it's probably because of their high level of Japanese cooking skills, and it's very original. I was satisfied with the fact that it had one Michelin star from 2013 to 2018.

(Translated by Google) I'd been looking forward to this ever since I made my reservation, and finally returned last night. I was treated to tempura made with an abundance of winter ingredients. As always, I was truly impressed. It's amazing that I could eat so much tempura without feeling bloated. It must be the chef's masterful technique. It was so delicious my tongue was melting. The turnip stew, made with turnips, which are in season now, had a strong yuzu flavor that warmed me up. It's a winter appetizer! The seasoning is exquisite. The shrimp potato tempura was also sticky and delicious. Another winter ingredient. The pufferfish broth with pufferfish tempura was exquisite. I added shichimi pepper to change up the flavor, and it was also excellent. The shichimi served was Kyoto's black shichimi, which I was impressed by. LOL The shichimi used here is the kind only connoisseurs use, so it seems the chef has really researched his condiments, including shichimi. It was my first time trying hanaccoli tempura. It's apparently a cross between broccoli and rapeseed. It seems like it would absorb a lot of oil, but it was surprisingly light and delicious. I also tried squid tempura for the first time here, and it was delicious. The sea urchin and abalone tempura, paired with rice and abalone liver, was absolutely exquisite. It truly made my mouth water. We finished off with ochazuke (rice with tea). My partner ordered a tempura bowl and added grated daikon radish to change the flavor. I'd like to try that next time. LOL On this day, I had tempura accompanied by Aramasa sake. As always, I'm truly impressed. The tempura, of course, and the other dishes are delicious, too. This is what they mean when they say it will make your mouth water. Thank you, chef. Uosai is a hidden gem that transports you back in time with its authentic Japanese ambiance and traditional cuisine. The dashi broth, crafted from dried kelp and bonito, showcases the natural umami flavor without any artificial additives. Guests are welcomed by a warm and patient staff member who makes communication easy, even for those with limited Japanese skills. While the original menu may be challenging to decipher, English options are available along with helpful phrases for navigating your dining experience.
Very comfortable atmosphere and great traditional Japanese food. We were greeted by a very nice lady who was extremely patient with us. We could speak very little Japanese, but she spoke slowly and clearly so we could understand as best we could. The original menus are handwritten Japanese that translation apps cannot decipher, but English menus are available, and the lady gave us some good recommendations. The tempura, yakitori, and oyakodon were well presented and delicious. I highly recommend this place!

We were there today and really enjoyed the experience. It's very traditional place run by a family. Oba-sama was the waitress and made sure that we know what kind of food we'll be eating. Appetizer was katsuo, tomato with asparagus, figue with sweet sesame sauce. All main dishes are sets with misoshiru and pickled vegetables. I had oyakodon, and it was very tasty. Our group also had hot sake and asahi beer. Overall, a lovely place with it's own history and also with great food

We took a 15 minute bus ride just to get here. This place will take you back in time like a capsule - that’s how authentic it is. The food was amazing - we ordered the shrimp tempura, yakitori, kani, and more; everything was just what I wanted instead of the usual tourist traps izayaka around the city. The owner was so kind and patient too!!! Flip to the back side of the menu for useful Japanese phrases you can use right there and then at the restaurant. This was such an amazing experience for us :)

We came because we saw great reviews on Google and it was a lovely experience. The woman who welcomed us in was very patient with us as our Japanese isn’t very strong. She brought an English menu out for us which was a big help. It felt more like a place that locals go to, a nice reprieve from a lot of more touristy restaurants. The food was tasty and comforting. Oyakodon and yakitori were especially yummy. Thank you for a great meal and for your patience!

Itagaki has run her business since 1999, the raw materials of the food are all purchased from local farms and shops nearby - all are really fresh. We don't speak Japanese, but Itagaki still tried to introduce the way of eating to us by translator which was so cute and warm. The food is so delicious. Highly recommend!!

(Translated by Google) I was able to enjoy carefully prepared food slowly. It was my first time visiting the store, so I was a little worried, but I would like to come again if I have the chance. The store was said to open at 11:30, so I was worried about what I would do if I waited in line, but when I arrived at 12:00, I was the first customer. I was asked if I had a reservation, and was it fully booked? I was worried, but I was guided to my favorite counter seat without any problems. After that, 3 people with reservations and 2 people without reservations came to the restaurant, and the seats were fairly full. The owner is the only one running the restaurant, so I had to pay first, and the water and chopsticks were self-service. 丸常鮨 is a cozy sushi restaurant with a friendly atmosphere and both counter and table seating. The general is known for being amiable, often engaging in conversation with patrons and sharing recommendations based on the day's fresh ingredients. The establishment takes substantial measures to ensure cleanliness and safety, including the use of dividers between seats. Our family of 5 really enjoyed our sushi meal here. The restaurant is small in a local neighbourhood and not touristy – 5 counter seats and a table that the five of us sat at – but we went around 12:30pm on a weekday and the table was free. The owners – husband and wife I think – were very friendly and very helpful, and they had menus in English. The sushi was fresh and tasty, and the kids loved the sushi rice bowls. Hosomaki was great, clam and squid very good, and tuna and salmon very fresh and tasty indeed. Absolutely fantastic lunch. Thank you!

Truly wonderful place, staff helped us place an order in English and were just generally very friendly and welcoming. I had assorted sashimi (on the day this was squid, whitetail, mackerel, salmon and tuna) which had astounding freshness and was very tasty. I only wish I had room to order/eat more! Considering the accessibility for Oshiage Skytree, the atmosphere was very cosy and sedate, we had no wait for a table on a Tuesday evening. With drinks we spent only 3000 yen between two people, which feels unreal considering the quality of the meal. Heavily recommended!

Izuei Main Branch is a humble establishment that offers delectable grilled eel set lunches accompanied by sides like sashimi and tempura. The restaurant prides itself on preserving a centuries-old flavor with its secret sauce recipe, which has remained unchanged for over 300 years. This unique sauce, made solely from soy sauce and miso without any sugar, imparts a rich umami taste to the dishes.
That's a really traditional sea eel restaurant, and we're so enjoying our lunch👍🏿 Although we had a bit waiting for the sea eel rice, like 20 minutes for fresh made. We hadn't made a reservation, so we had to wait around 10 minutes to arrange a table, a window-side table♥️ My set lunch was yummy, tasty, and great, and I loved their design of the Benton box! The sea eel was perfectly grilled, very softy, and juicy, but the source was not that rich like the other restaurant.

They have non-eel options if your party can’t have eel! :) delicious himeju— not too salty, lightly flavored. The side dishes with the himeju were great!!! You may not enjoy the eel if you like stronger flavoring. Pretty good service! We came 10 minutes before opening on a weekday lunch and could get in as soon as we opened. Line wasn’t too long, but as we ate the line grew a bit. The line never seemed more than 5 parties, and seemed to move quick.

We managed to have lunch at this popular <i>unagi & tempura</i> specialty restaurant near Ueno Park, after waiting about 45 minutes though we came early for lunch time. The manager was not friendly towards international visitors and did not try to explain properly the waiting / queue system. We saw many Japanese customers can directly go to the counter and got the ticket number, while he asked us to wait outside the building for the tickets to be distributed when there were quite long queue outside the building. I can understand why most customers were local Japanese. Once inside, you can ask for English menu and order what you like with the waiter staff. We ordered the <i>unajyu</i> lunch set and the <i>Izuei</i> lunch set that included half <i>unagi</i> and a few <i>tempura</i> pieces along with rice, miso soup and pickles. We also got a small glass of beer to accompany our lunch. The meals were good and we love the grilled eel and sauces, though the <i>tempura</i> is nothing special. Total meal costs were ¥ 8,140 which is quite expensive, but still reasonable considering quality ingredients and good restaurant ambience. The restaurant is quite big with many dining floors available. The waiting staff members gave us good customer services, so we only had bad experience with the front manager. You can pay with V/MC payment cards, so it is good for international customers.

As a Finn I was surprised to eat meatballs and mashed potatoes with blueberries. Traditionally it's served with cranberries but it was actually quite nice. They should add more potatoes and less meatballs and sauce. I visited this place 3 years ago and came back for some delicious pastry I had last time. I was a little bit disappointed when I found out they have renewed the cafeteria and were no longer selling "hattivatti munkkeja". Cafeteria was empty, we were the only customers.

Well, what you would expect from a Moomin cafe - cute characters, beautiful music from the show and menu inspired by it. There is also a shop and a room full of plush characters with which you can pose and take pictures too - great for small and big children. Waitresses are kind, cheerful and glad to help and the menu is not too expensive (not as in the Fantastic Beasts cafe - Moomins at much more affordable) so it simply a must for fans - new and old ones.

Tonkatsu restaurant
Ichikatsu is a popular restaurant in Ryogoku known for its exceptional pork cutlet, or Tonkatsu. What sets this place apart is the unbeatable value it offers, with set menus priced at just 690 yen. The concept is simple: choose your meat cut and size, then watch as it's freshly breaded and cooked before your eyes. Despite the basic presentation without sauce, customers rave about the delicious flavors and generous portion sizes.
Tonkatsu is always great here at one of these Ichikatu locations. You do not see as many tourists as the one in Ueno. The place was full of Tokyo working people trying to get a bite to eat after work. We spent less than 3000 yen for two here. Awesome value and kind of cultural experience.

Absolutely perfect generous portions of delicious, made fresh food. Friendly welcoming and efficient service. Few tourists, but welcoming. Do not speak English but have a menu. We were a group of 7 English people they sat us and served us quickly. Bigger groups would struggle or too many groups, we came towards the end of lunch service so it wasn't so busy. In the peak, there would be a longer wait i expect. This is a working people's lunch spot really so being respectful of that is recommended.

I strongly recommend this place if you’re in the area and tired of eating noodles or sushi. They do have an english menu and was quite spacious. They have a waiting area, and a place where you. Can hang your coats. It’s the first place I’ve been to in Tokyo who serves green tea before the actual food. The food itself was good, fried to order so you can be assured of the katsu freshness. I didn’t encounter any foreigners during my visit, I can confirm that it’s where locals go to for a tonkatsu fix.

Simple concept, enter, select the size and meat cut then enjoy your meal. The meat is crumbed and cooked freshly in front of you and the meal is prepared in about 10 minutes with a full house. Even though the meal is basic and without sauce it tastes quite plain, I had to give this place 5 stars as they did an amazing job at preparing and serving. The prices are very well matches and the portion sizes are generous. I'm impressed with the customer service as well. Great little joint where 98% of the time you'll be the only non Japanese person there and ain't that a great thing.

Went here for the view. You’ll know you’re at the right place when you see the “Asahi golden poop,” which refers to the large golden flame-shaped sculpture, officially called the Asahi Flame. The place has a small seating capacity, but when we went on a Thursday night, there wasn’t really a wait to be seated. We didn’t try the food and just ordered a mug of beer. It was worth it for the nice view of Tokyo Skytree and the city. The night lights made the experience really lovely. It’s definitely a spot to consider if you’re around the Asakusa area.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The coldest beer of my life. Period. 🍺❄️ It was a blazing hot Tokyo day — the kind of heat that melts your soul — when I somehow found the Asahi Sky Room. You walk into what looks like a corporate office (seriously, you think you’re lost), take the elevator to the top, and suddenly… bam. Rooftop bar. Epic Tokyo skyline. Zero tourists. Then comes the beer. Ice-cold. Crisp. So cold it probably has its own weather system. You take one sip and instantly forgive Tokyo for being 100 degrees. It’s like a speakeasy in the sky — hidden, stylish, and gloriously random. Go around 5 p.m., grab a seat by the window, and let that Asahi Super Dry change your mood, your day, and maybe your entire relationship with beer. Tokyo has temples, sushi, neon lights — but trust me, this one’s sacred. 🥶🍻

The views are stunning; the beer and service were wonderful, too. They went through the queue rather quickly as well. People, at least while I were there, enjoyed the view but were also mindful of the many other individuals waiting to enjoy another popular Tokyo attraction.
Jamie — Google review
Having a big show sky room for a beer brand is amazing. Being sold out of every beer except the basic super dry is embarrassing. The view might be nice, but that's it.
Frederik F — Google review
You don't come for the "food" but rhe beer is very good of course, the entrance is free and the view very very nice. It is also funny seeing Asahi Group employee in the elevator while your a re going in their "company sky bar" for a beer.
Paolo P — Google review
The night view was absolutely stunning, and the beer was surprisingly affordable, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a drink while taking in the scenery! Considering the upscale atmosphere, the prices were really reasonable. Drinking authentic Asahi beer at the top floor of the Asahi headquarters made it feel extra special and it tasted amazing too 🍻🫶🏻

Tongue restaurant
RIKYU is a popular restaurant located in Solamachi, known for its delicious beef tongue dishes. The menu offers a variety of options such as mega-sized lemon sours with beef tongue, stable beef tongue set meals with miso flavor, and beef tongue set wiener with two types of sets including cheese and yuzu beer grated yam appetizer small bowl. The restaurant's location next to the Skytree makes it a convenient stop for visitors exploring the area.
The food was great. The beef tongue was so flavorful, the steak was cooked as I like it, medium rare, not that you get to chose. The soup was nice and the fried oysters melt in your mouth.
Yoshitaka K — Google review
I expected the beef tongue to be a bit thicker as seen on the menu but overall the taste of the meal was good. The service is also great. The staff were very attentive and the prices were not too high end despite the location.
Michelle G — Google review
Had the wagyu beef tongue set for 5000+ and the salmon + beef tongue set for 3000+. The wagyu set is decent. The fat comes out of the tongue when bite. But the beef tongue from the salmon is not good. It’s very tough, because it’s overcook. Look at the second photo. No red, all brown. If I’m chief, I cut and see all brown, I’d remake. Shame they didn’t remake and serve overcooked food to customer. They also try to make a line outside by leaving tables empty. Lines you see doesn’t represent how popular this place is!! Come enjoy some overcooked rubber if that’s what you’re into!!
Sunny P — Google review
best beef tongue i’ve ever had in my life! it was so juicy and crunchy and just bursting with flavour. the miso one was even softer than the salt one but i loved both. the toppings on the nigiri were so flavourful- soy sauce is unnecessary. high recommend!!
Jolie C — Google review
Used decent meat but somehow the taste was not as good as other beef tongue places I have been to. Either too salty for the beef on sticks or too plain for the tenshoku. Also, there seems to always be a queue but when I went in, it was clear that there are free spaces which means they could have let me in earlier as I did not see anyone left in the last 15 mins but I do see easily 3-4 tables empty. Is that a strategy to make the shop looks busier than it is?
E K — Google review
Excellent location in the restaurant row next to the Skytree. The opened at 11am and usually filled up quick, so we decided to go as early as we can, and it was a great decision. Had beef tongue over rice with egg. The tongue was a bit chewy, but still delicious. The curry beef tongue was excellent and the texture tasted like regular beef, even my kids couldn't tell the difference. The soup that came with thec set was good as well. Great food!
George L — Google review
Their specialty is beef tongue and it is delicious! Medium sized restaurant with comfortable seating. They are children friendly which is very helpful for young families. Price is standard restaurant type prices, ¥2000-¥3000 for a set meal. Staff are friendly and helpful.

The beef tongue are tender, my steak rice bowl was delicious! Great service and I was able to sit outside on a sunny day too, great experience!

Ramen restaurant
Rokurinsha Tokyo Solamachi is a renowned spot in Tokyo for its unique take on ramen. Instead of traditional ramen, they serve tsukemen, where noodles are served separately and dipped into a bowl of steaming broth to infuse them with flavor without losing their chewy texture. The shop's specialty noodles are thick and designed for this dipping style.
Stopped by early for lunch to avoid the line and it was worth it. The tsukumen was delicious. The texture and firmness of the noodles was perfect and the dip was flavorful and hearty. Try it and you’ll understand why the people line up for it.
John S — Google review
The dipping noodles were on the salty side, but they were absolutely delicious. The noodles had a great chewy texture, too. After finishing, you can ask the staff to add broth, which was a unique touch. I waited about 20 minutes in the morning, and I definitely want to come back again next time.
Sharon — Google review
Best tsukemen in town! I choose Special Deep Noodle, small size. Chewy noodle dipped in rich and umami thick soup is a perf combo. Pork chasu is also very yum!! After you finish the noodle, you can ask hot water and enjoy the rest of dipping soup. I come here often. If you're lucky, the queue is around 10 minutes or less 😁
Reggie G — Google review
Once your queue turn, order at the kiosk. Price is affordable & need not wait too long. The Tsukemen for us was average vs what we had tasted in other city, and prefer a less sour dip. Suggest small size as the noodle portion is quite more than expected. Broth of ramen was like ghee soup back home.
Tot2travel W — Google review
I won’t pretend to be an expert critic - this was my first time trying tsukemen. It’s so good! Maybe even better than ramen? The flavors are intense and the noodles are extra chewy. It’s very refreshing on a hot day. The staff are passionate and kind. I ate here two days in a row. Highly recommended! Tip: The portions are huge. I ordered a small (pictured) and was stuffed.
Eric L — Google review
We had this place 3 times during our 10 day trip. Absolutely delicious!!! My first time having dipping ramen and it’s phenomenal. Order the number one you won’t be disappointed. Also yes the noodles will be a bit cool for your dipping ramen just eat it you’ll love it!
Brianna — Google review
The Best Tsukemen I ever have. the Shichimi add rich flavour to already rich broth , and I really loved it. Wife order their Ramen , its very good but I think the Tsukemen is even better than Ramen. No queue at all when last weekend I went there
Koko S — Google review
thanks to Ryuichi for finding and bringing me to this shop to taste the specialty deep noodle at tokyo solamachi! (actually we are leaving tokyo after this), very very long queue but worth the wait! besides dip noodle, can order ramen here, but menu not many choice and not necessary to provide too many option or dishes, as most customers came here just for one single purpose, i.e. to taste the dip noodle!, for drinks, can order beer, orange juice, coke, and oolong tea

Victor is an honest and humble man. The food he prepares is both authentic and delicious. If you want to try authentic Sinaloa Mexican cuisine then I cannot recommend Love Tacos more. The guacamole, mixed tacos (1 spice level - jalapeños) and quesadilla are my favourites. Give it a try, I think you will enjoy it!
Elliot S — Google review
Great atmosphere and owner is very nice and talkative. But when we tried to order he upsold us and then brought us out different food than we ordered anyway. Ended up paying an arm and a leg for taco bell quality food. The bill was unreasonably high but owner was so nice I didn't feel like arguing. I think he preys on this kind of experience. Won't be going back and can't recommend anyone going there either.

He stares anyone down that passes his store..felt abit scary. And he had his partner reviewing this ? Seriously?:/ ..and i read that " chef brings the food to your table " but its a small store and there is only the chef..so.... I mean ... Food was mediocre . Price is abit high i guess

Kameido Gyoza (Kinshicho Shop) is a must-visit spot in Japan, highly recommended by locals and visitors alike. The gyoza here is a standout, with just the right size, crispiness, and delicious flavor. The fried rice is also a hit, offering an ideal texture and taste that embodies what fried rice should be. The friendly staff and reasonable prices make it an excellent choice for a quick bite.
The ideal gyoza shop in Tokyo. Quick service, super simple menu, counter seating, delicious food. They know what they’re good at, and stand by it! The gyoza and fried rice were both delicious. We ordered more plates bc it was so good.
Mari — Google review
The guy at the entrance was looking at me like “Why are you here?”. Not nice at all. I had to ask “Can I come in?”. First time ever in Japan. That’s why I’m giving three stars for the service. Everybody else in the shop was professional and curteous. The food was great, I had the 10 gyoza set with rice and soy ramen with a very large beer (633 mL). Altogether 2420 yen. Except for the guy at the entrance, highly recommended.
Marko G — Google review
Tastes almost as good as my homemade gyozas. It's a legit gyoza bar for quick eats, cheap and full of "wok hei" - air of wok 😄
Ashley L — Google review
We absolutely loved this place. Arrived about 6pm on a Thursday with our 3 kids. The man outside gave us a huge smile and they wiggled things around to seat us first in two groups and then together once someone moved. It’s a little counter place with about 18 seats but no one stays long so it’s super fast. Gyoza and fried rice were a massive hit with everyone. Perhaps a bit oilier than I’m used to but the whole experience was super cool. We felt really welcome and the menu was in English despite it feeling very local. Highly recommend: beware the very very large beers!
A C — Google review
Really good food, gyoza was perfectly cooked and crispy and fried rice was just right mixed with eggs, green onions and meat Even there’s were a queue, it went really fast and you get your food shortly after you order Bring your own tissue, as it’s only available at one spot and it’s so small you don’t move around
Loa P — Google review
Very good Gyoza bar. Reasonable price and friendly staffs. Gyozas are just the right size, crispy and delicious. The bar should have some tissue papers to wipe, as the tables, plates and food is oily. They also have ramen, fried rice (which I recommend) and some light plates. Good bar to pop in. Even there is always a long queue, the rotation is quick so you shouldn’t wait that long...approx 1 person 1.5 min waiting time (if you have 10 people in front of you, the waiting time is around 15 min)
Hiro — Google review
Very delicious Gyoza. Crispy from outside and tender juicy from inside
M. A — Google review
When people ask me what we ate in Japan, my mind poets back to this magical place. Recommended to us by a gal at the Moxy hotel nearby, we ate lunch here 5 times. We literally couldn’t get enough. You might come for the gyoza, and you won’t be disappointed. However, save some room for the fried rice. Its flavor, its texture, its everything is what fried rice is meant to be. Personally, I liberally applied red chili oil & flakes to spice mine up, but my hubby merely poured a touch of shoyu & rice wine vinegar over his. However you personalize it — even if you don’t personalize it — it’ll soothe your soul. It’s cash only, and please don’t loiter too long. They are rightfully quite popular and it’s not uncommon to see 10-15 people in line outside. If you see this, don’t be discouraged! It’s worth the wait.
