Bakery
Pelican is a modest, long-standing bakery that has been operating since 1942, known for its simple yet delicious offerings of white bread and rolls. Despite its limited menu, the bakery sells an impressive number of loaves and rolls due to their exceptional quality. The white bread is particularly renowned for its slightly crusty exterior and soft interior, making it a versatile choice for various pairings such as homemade chicken curry.
Last year, I also visited a Pelican cafe and had toasted toast. This year, I went to buy bread. I wanted to buy the smallest piece (500 yen) since it was a solo trip, but the only piece of bread I could buy was 1.5 pounds (750 yen). I had no choice but to buy the 1.5 pounds, but it's a shame I can't get the bigger one anymore. As soon as I got back to Korea, After that, I baked bread without adding anything, and made toast by soaking up eggs. All are wonderful. I only have three pieces left in the fridge, which is heartbreaking.

the shokupan with ham katsu was surprisingly good and so was toast with butter. as they make each serving by table, you'll have to wait awhile even after ordering.

Nice beard. Need to make a reservation for more options. Simple but good bread.
C C — Google review
There are 3 types of loaf pans: 3斤, 2斤, and mountain shaped. 3斤 is the softest, 2斤 is more chewy, and mountain shaped has the crispy shell. Pelican also has those little ones in bag, which all share same texture. In terms of taste, there’s no different. So, here’s my way to toast the 3斤 loaf bread. Instead of slicing it nicely with bread knife, tear it with hand in large pieces. Then toast it for 2 minutes. Edges will be slightly cured, depend on sizes. Because of the high density, after toasting, the mix texture of chewy and crispy is just beautiful.

Chōmeiji Sakuramochi is a traditional Japanese springtime dessert that comes in two styles: Kanto-style and Kansai-style. The former features smooth mochi wrapped around red bean paste, while the latter has a chunkier texture. Both types are served wrapped in cherry blossom leaves, adding to their charm. Visitors can find this delightful treat at various shops in areas like Sumida, Asakusa, and Ueno.
Such a special place! The sakura mochi is delicious! You can either enjoy it in the shop or have it packet to take away. It is served with hot green tea, and is wrapped in sakura leafs. The staff recommends eating the mochi with only one leaf, if you are not used to the taste. It is really special, and the sakura taste really permeates the mochi. A mixture of sour, salty, and the sweetness of the mochi make for a truly unique taste. The place is also one of the oldest sakura mochi shops, so there is quite a bit of history to experience. Definitely worth a stop!
Iordan I — Google review
In comparision with ordinary "sakura-mochi," this shop is a bit expensive but it has tradition and tasteful. Sakura-mochi is red beans' sweet in rice cake wrapped with leaves of sakura, cherry blossom. The sophisticated sweetness and fragrance from the leaves of cherry blossom are ones of something I love in Tokyo. Some people eat the wrapping leaves and some people don't.

Toshi Yoroizuka Tokyo is a chic venue in Japan that offers French-inspired sweets, including petits gateaux and madeleines, which are also available for takeout. The store is owned by Toshi Yoroizuka, who received training in Europe and has brought his expertise to Japan. Visitors can enjoy a unique blend of European-style pastries with Japanese influences at this establishment.
I visited around 3–4 PM and was lucky to find a seat within 15 minutes — the seating is quite limited, so timing matters! The seasonal blueberry soft ice cream really impressed me — it was rich in berry flavor but not overly sweet, striking the perfect balance with a light and creamy texture. All the cakes here follow the same philosophy: less sugar, more emphasis on quality cream and delicate flavor. It’s a refreshing change from overly sugary desserts! The strawberry mousse tart was beautifully presented and tasted heavenly — smooth, fruity, and indulgent without being too heavy. The tiramisu-style layered dessert was also rich and satisfying. The only downside was the coffee — it was very average, so I’d recommend skipping it and focusing on the desserts instead. Overall, a must-visit for dessert lovers who appreciate fine flavors and elegant presentation. Highly recommended! 🍓🍦🍰

Menu - only two sets, one with the strawberry risotto Appetiser - the blueberry cheesecake is nothing special Strawberry risotto - glad that we only ordered one set with this. I think this is a bit weird as the taste of the risotto is seperated from the strawberry. Just imagine you eat a risotto cooked in cream and the risotto is a little bit salty but with cooked fresh strawberry….. 浮島 - Mon blac in matcha sauce; only the matcha sauce is good; the mon blanc is super sweet with red bean paste inside and no hint of chestnut…. Pistachio crème brûlée - too sweet but there is pistachio taste the caramel layer is made by white sugar and is not burnt well. Conclusion - don’t waste your quota when you are in tokyo
Jasmine L — Google review
First visited a Toshi Yoroizuka store many years ago at Midtown during Christmas and remembered being impressed with their baked goods but not so much about the cakes. I happened to pass by this outlet and decided to get some souvenirs to bring back home. Got the signature box of 5 baked goods which were as expected since I had tried them before. The kiwi-lime jam did seem like an unusual combination so I thought it might make a good gift idea without being too sweet on the palate. As for the sakura cake, it looked pretty just like the other cakes on display but the taste was passable. What bothered me was how slow the packing and settlement process took. Granted that I visited in the early evening of a weekday and there was nobody else doing a takeaway, I really wondered why it took that long especially since there was only one cake to be placed inside the box, wrap up a single bottle of jam and the box needed no additional packing to be done. I can only imagine how long it would take when the store is busy.

A store on the first floor with good access from the station. The store is also spacious and you can eat in. Sweets for gifts are also stylishly packaged and can be given to men and women of all ages. This time I bought a sable, and it was crispy and delicious without being too sweet.
Youji N — Google review
Good service, outdoor seating. On the weekends can get pretty crowded. French toast lunch is good and not expensive. Also all the ice creams and cakes are super delicious. I highly recommend this place.
Daria P — Google review
A nice, cozy pastry salon that serves a great selection of pastries and the prices are also quite reasonable. The coffee menu is not extensive but the available options are still decent. After placing your order you can only sit around for 90 minutes which seems fair, so we ordered another round of coffee as we were having a really great time there. Worth a visit if you wish to try out some nice pastries that are created by one of the most famous pastry chefs in Japan.
Nitika — Google review
Nice bakery near Tokyo station by the Nihonbashi shopping area. They got all sorts of cakes and bread and lunch menu available. Seatings are available outdoor and indoors. It’s nice to sit outside and have a tea and cake to rest a bit. Cakes change seasonally as well. It’s popular spot so there are often 2-3 people in line but not too bad. Overall, nice chill spot.

Ryogoku Terrace is a charming outdoor dining spot located next to the old Yasuda Garden along the Sumida River. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu with bistro cuisine and Japanese flavors, as well as homemade desserts. In winter, the terrace transforms into a cozy kotatsu dining experience featuring special menus like nabe hotpot. Guests can enjoy barbecued meats and wood-fired pizza in this greenery-filled area.
A great place to have dinner the first night we were in Tokyo, particularly after a long overseas flight. The Caesar salad was delicious and refreshing. The Neopolitan pizza was thin and flavorful. Great ginger highball. Super service.
James S — Google review
Very polite and efficient staff. Food was good. Drinks even better. For English speakers the menu was easy to use and you can place your orders quickly. The restaurant has a pleasant inviting atmosphere as well.
Jon P — Google review
The food is okey, but be aware that dishes are not always served simultaneously for everyone at the table. It’s best to start eating when your meal arrives, as it may get cold if you wait for others to be served. If you choose to sit outside, try to avoid being seated near the wind and mist machines, as they can be quite noisy and uncomfortable.
Narok N — Google review
Calm quiet spot with lovely indoor and outdoor seating. The pizza is in the floppy Neapolitan style one sees all over Tokyo. The sauce was very good and so is the dough. There is a lunch set where you get curry rice, soup, flavored breads and a variety of infused teas buffet style. I wish I’d ordered the seafood pasta (it smelled amazing) but I had a good lunch here.
Josh F — Google review
Delicious good food with traditional seats and wood fire too . As well as the hot pot. We tried twice. Worth it
S T — Google review
Pizza was mediocre. It does not worth the price for sure. I have had much cheaper pizza with more taste in the city. Matcha tart was good. Some of the staff was okay, while other not so great. We Ve ordered one pizza with lunch (which allows you to refill) and we Ve thought is per table/ order. Instead, you have to order 2 lunch refills for each person. When I Ve tried to take a soup, the staff came and told me that we Ve only ordered one lunch menu (my bf already took some soup). So I Ve put the bowl down and left. We did not see explicitly that this is per person, so we Ve thought it s per order/ table. To be honest, I found the attitude pretty cheap. It s like they are counting persons and who eats what and how many portions. Ofc we would have paid from the beginning for 2 menus if that was clearly, especially after such an expensive pizza 😄 Staff does not speak English very well so for a coffee we ve waited too much. The ambiance is nice on a sunny day.
Daria V — Google review
Such a lovely place but can be a bit cold in early spring ー your hot coffee would just last for 2 mins lol. Loved the overall vibe of the place and you can def relax and chill with friends here. For food, we had some salad, carbonara, penne arrabbiata, some pizza, steak, and the angel cake for dessert. Arrabbiata was a bit too sour for our taste but loved the carbonara very much!

Kototoi Dango is a renowned wagashi shop located near Sumida River, known for its long history of making tri-colored dango since the late Edo period. This traditional Japanese sweet comes in three flavors: white anko, red anko, and miso. The shop is also famous for its bird-shaped monaka. Although not close to a station, it's worth the 15-minute walk from Hikifune to savor these delectable treats.
Come across this shop by chance while walking around. It seems to be one of the oldest dango shop around. The dango is delicious, the filling is smooth and sweet, each color taste different and all of them taste good. Highly recommended.

Very delicious おやつ (snack) treat by our Japanese neighbor at a very old and famous Japanese tea shop. Beautiful view of Tokyo Skytree from the shop’s window.

A lovely spot, although it's nearly underneath the highway! Just take a walk along the river and you will come to it, but it's rather unassuming, so be alert. Once I got inside, the women who were serving greeted me warmly and took great care of me, explaining the available set, then bringing the tasty dango and a cup of tea. The atmosphere, service and food made for a delightful visit. Step away from the crowds and into this traditional spot...

Sasaya Cafe is a trendy and contemporary eatery that caters to a diverse range of tastes, whether vegan or not, by offering wholesome plant-based meals and desserts. Their menu features dishes made with organic ingredients sourced from local farms that are free of pesticides. The cafe's spacious and wheelchair-accessible setting near Tokyo Skytree provides a unique dining experience.
Great cafe with friendly staff and very tasty food. Great vegan find! Had taro special, served with a few different salads including my favourite delicious ginger greens. It came with rice and soup. Husband had the tempeh battered with breadcrumbs, again his dish came with a tasty soup, rice and salad. Both came with a drink of choice, I had a Japanese herbal tea and he had a coffee. Everything was delicious, tasted fresh. Big portions as well! Really nice ambience and the staff helped us out with the menu to translate in English.

Total score would be a 4.5. What you eat and what you pay for comes for a very good price. I am highly lactose intolerant so places like this are heaven for me. Everything tasted really good and comes in nice abundant portions. For parents: they do have high chairs and the dining room is spacious and there's enough room between tables for your toddlers to chill.

The Tempeh Katsu curry was divine! Comes with brown rice and salad, plus organic coffee. Free flavored water is great too.

*EDIT* Don't go on weekends. The staff are overwhelmed and they have a terrible system if you want to find a seat. A really bad experience and I wouldn't recommend it. A really spacious cafe with a terrace area that is dog friendly! A wonderfully healthy menu to choose from - there's a little something for everybody! The Hummus Sandwich had lots of flavour and was surprisingly filling. Same with the Breaded & Fried Tempeh with Rice! I've tried a lot of plant based dishes that really lacked flavour, but this cafe was different! Highly recommend for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foodies alike! The interior was a bit humid/hot. That was my only complaint from my visit. But I got used to it after a while. Can't wait to go back and try their desserts!
Yui P — Google review
After a lovely stroll through Oyoko Waterside Park, my mom and I enjoyed a delightful vegan meal at Sasaya Cafe. There are two areas for dining: the sun deck and main room. We chose the latter in favor of air conditioning~Although their food menu is limited, their meal sets are absolute and fulfilling! Asides from their standard menu, they offer a specialized day meal set—I had their curry which was divine! While we sat and chatted, 40s jazz music played serenely in the background. All in all, Sasaya Cafe is a perfect place for dining!

Japanese sweets restaurant
Located opposite Ueno Park, Mihashi Ueno Main Shop is a renowned cafe that specializes in serving traditional Japanese confectionery. Established in 1948, this charming spot is popular among locals and offers a variety of delightful treats, including the signature Anmitsu - a Japanese dessert made of agar jelly, red bean jam, cooked red peas, and fruits.
Ueno Dessert Review This was a very traditional shop located on the main strip in the Ueno area. Inside, the decor resembled a classic Japanese cafe, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. There was a short wait, but the environment was comfortable and clean. Despite being busy, the service was exceptional—they didn’t rush us and allowed ample time to order. When the dessert arrived, it was beautifully presented. While the portions were not overly large, the quality was outstanding. Each item had a distinct, natural flavor with no artificial taste. At first, I wished the portions were bigger, but I realized they were designed for you to slow down and savor each bite. One highlight was the complimentary hot green tea, which paired perfectly with the cold dessert. The tea was of high quality, not the cheap kind, and had a rich, authentic flavor. The staff consistently refilled my cup, enhancing the overall experience. Great service, excellent dessert, and a warm atmosphere—definitely worth a visit.
Monkey ( — Google review
We have passed by this shop many times over our last trip staying in Ueno but did not have a chance to try their desserts as we were either too late, too early, or too full. Made it a point to visit and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their desserts and the service the staff provided. The matcha shaved ice was to the point, and please remember to mix it well cos the syrup is right under ice. A perfect after dinner treat and will definitely come again next time I'm in Ueno.

The houjicha (roasted green tea) was the best of the best… not too sweet and very rich flavour. It was a hidden gem of this shop.

We took a break at this Japanese dessert shop for a while. The staff working were very nice oba-sans. We were served plain water and hot tea as soon as we were seated. My daughter had the fruit anmitsu, made up of seasonal fruits while I had the shiratama anmitsu. Hubby had the kakigori with strawberry syrup and apricot topping, and my son had the soft cream ice cream. Overall the desserts were refreshingly cold and divinely sweet. The anmitsu were served in cute porcelain bowls that were just perfect for it

Otaco is a charming gluten-free bakery nestled in the Asakusa neighborhood, known for its delicate rice flour chiffon cakes. The bakery offers an array of individually wrapped cake slices in flavors like green tea, Earl Grey, coffee, cocoa, pumpkin, and chocolate chip. With daily flavor rotations, there's always something new to try. Despite its small size and limited seating, Otaco's light and fluffy cakes have garnered praise from visitors. Some favorites include the lemon and green tea flavors.
The cake is delicious, super light with almost no sugar. Everything is gluten free!! The lady was very kind and friendly. Sadly there is not place to eat there, neither have a coffee or tea with the cake... however, it totally worth it, is delicious.

Gluten free chiffon cakes! This is a place I was planning to check out for a while, and then suddenly a dear friend of mine gifted me these two (pumpkin and coffee favours) and it really made my day. I guess even a little present can turn a stressful week into good memories. The chiffon cakes are extremely soft and they almost melt in your mouth, but the taste is pretty delicate!

Thank you!

LAND_A Cafe Dining & Smile is a casual restaurant that offers a variety of Western-inspired dishes, deli items, and assorted sweets. They serve breakfast and lunch with options for dining in or takeout. The cafe also has an open terrace for BBQ and offers ready-to-eat foods perfect for a picnic at Sumida Park across the street. The food and drinks are delicious, with options like hamburger meat with rice, pork fillet with bread, organic coffee, and refreshing cranberry lemonade.
Having breakfast here, order ham and egg crepe, set with coffee. It's delicious, and the good thing, the coffee is free refill until 11am. The service and atmosphere very pleasant. I also order Deux Caffera cake, it's really nice and get along with my black coffee. Beautiful surrounding, Wise Park Mukojima and Sumida River. Neat and cozy interior. Nice, clean toilet room.

Shrimps and asparagus in a lemon creamy sauce with spaghetti was delicious as was the crepes ( cooked to perfection) with strawberries and cream washed down with a super dry Asahi. Maitre de at the door understood my English and I ordered on the App. I didn’t have long to wait and dishes were cleared away as soon as I was finished. Place is busy with couples, friends and families as it’s Sunday afternoon but everyone seems happy. Nice music playing and there’s a selection of reading material near the entrance. There are plastic bins under the table for you to put your bags or shopping in.

🍝 My order: Lunch menu Teriyaki Chicken Pizza plus all you like bread, drinks, curry rice and salad 1680¥ ----- Food 4/5 The pizza was excellent with thick dough and delicious seasoning. However, I would have liked a little more meat on the pizza. I also loved the buffet idea and an interesting selection of salads that I did not know like that from Austria. The salads were very tasty and I can definitely recommend trying this lunch menu! The food was also very speedily prepared and of course the all you can eat buffets will shorten the wait even further especially if you are very hungry 😉 You will find a variety of drinks to choose from, starting with iced coffee or tea to hot versions of the same, over to fruit juices, you will not want for anything! Atmosphere 4/5 Modern and functional, it gives an energetic vibe and being right next to the river you can also enjoy the river whilst eating though you will be wanting for excessive greenery as everything but the river is mostly concrete. Cleanliness 5/5 No complaints, everything was very clean. Service 4/5 Speedy and polite, but interaction was limited to a minimum through every order being done digitally. Has a modern vibe, yes but also means barely any human interaction, which I prefer.

The food and drink are delicious, and the services are very good, too. We would like to come next time! We ordered weekday lunch specialty, hamburger meat with rice and pork fillet with bread. The meat are tender and soft. The ice tea is using earl grey tea as base. And cranberry lemonade is also tasty. Definitely recommend!

Great breakfast options (Western-style plate; salad bowl; pancakes; veggie curry; seasonal plate) with reasonable portions. Tasty coffee. Organic space. Staff are attentive to food allergies. Whether you sit out on the terrace facing the river or stay indoors, you’ll enjoy a great casual meal.

Although their savory selection is alright, this cafe shines the brightest in the cake department. Try their incredible angel food cake, freshly frosted upon serving with whipped cream and salty caramel, it goes perfectly with their generous, properly made cafe lattes.

Stylish, comfortable cafe with coffee and cake. There is also a flower shop if you're looking to buy something while you're there.
It was amazing cafe here. I ordered hot late and chestnut cake. Chestnut cake is fantastic taste which I’ve never had this level of quality before. Everything is good, atmosphere and staff attitude and service, of course taste as well. Will be back soon.

Quaint little cafe tucked along a quiet street. The deco is old world the piped music is calming and the atmosphere is lovely. A great stop to refresh oneself and to meet close friends for cake and a drink. The staff are attentive and helpful too.

Went to this popular cafe, which was once recommended by TimeOut, with my friends for breakfast. . I got Pudding and Layered Cafe Au Lait. The bouncy pudding was covered in caramel sauce, elevating its bittersweet taste. As for my Cafe Au Lait, it was Iced Coffee with Sweet Milk. It had a smoky and robust flavour, with a layer of cream at the bottom creating a creamy texture. One of my friends ordered Houji Tea Chocolate Cake and Hot Vienna Coffee. The chocolate cake had a fragrant houji tea aroma and a firm, rich texture without being overly heavy. However, the chocolate flavor seemed to overshadow the houji tea flavor. Another had Peach & Pear Shortcake and Hot Earl Grey Tea. The shortcake was expertly layered with cream, sponge cake, peach, and pear. The refreshing flavors of the peach and pear complemented the cream subtly, making a delightful combination. . When we arrived at the cafe, there was a queue, indicating its popularity. The cafe had a spacious layout and was adorned with numerous vintage items, creating a charming ambiance. The shelves filled with books added to the overall bookish atmosphere, allowing customers to enjoy the tranquility of the cafe.

There is an almond in the middle of their lemon tart and you can taste roasted almond bits in their pie crust, which I’m not a fan of. Makes it a bit too sweet. Also they give starbucks level of ice for their cold beverages and too less liquid. However, the atmosphere here amazing with a great collection of magazine. Really hope they can work on their food and beverages but definitely will come again to study / work.

With its mismatched vintage furniture and shelves of artsy books, this place is just the epitome of a stylish Tokyo cafe. I think the coffee is pretty good, and they have a huge selection of gorgeous teacups they use to serve their hot drinks. (The desserts are always nice, too.) From afar is pretty big inside, so if you go on a weekday there are lots of seating choices, but beware! On weekends it gets so busy that people line up in front!

Spacious & stylish cafe tucked away in the corner of Kurumae / Asakusa. First off, the ambience and quality of service was impressive - the staff were attentive and all smiles! The furniture is comfy too which makes it easy to while away time reading a book or otherwise. If design is your thing, there’s a large variety of magazines & books available to read for free. The espresso was pretty nice with a rich, deep flavour. Couldn’t ask for more. There’s also a florist in the cafe if you fancy buying flowers for the journey back home. The sweets & snacks also look worth trying to perhaps that will be on the menu for the next visit!

Market
Kappabashi Dougu Street is a renowned shopping destination, particularly for restaurant owners and food enthusiasts. Situated near Tawaramachi Station on the Ginza Subway line, it offers an array of kitchen equipment, cookware, knives, furniture, and even lifelike plastic food samples commonly seen in restaurant displays. This district is distinctively dedicated to culinary-related items that make for unique gifts or souvenirs.
You gotta go to this street if you have a passion for cooking at all, or even if you just need kitchenware. This area has it all with tons of specialty stores for different types of kitchenware. Knife shops are the main attraction here. The knives sold here are stunning and very high quality, forged by hand from a Japanese Craftsman. Lots of good food nearby as well.
Gabe A — Google review
There was no shortage of kitchen places to shop with every item you can think of, and all price levels on offer. Some shops were well laid out and fancy, while others were like a hoarders' house that you had to dig through to find the treasures. It's a great mix. I got a knife and highly recommend doing some research before to narrow down your options in make and style as it can be overwhelming with choice and price. I wandered for hours. If you love your cooking equipment, you'll enjoy it. If you're a tag along, then maybe not so much!
Mat T — Google review
Awesome place for home, kitchen tools, knick-knacks and even work uniform. This week, they have a festival happening and it's a great time to go for the sales. Leave your big bags at home, it's a tight squeeze inside the shops.

Totally obsessed with Kappabashi Street. Every corner has something fun to look at. All shelves full of ceramics, endless kitchen tools, baking moulds, chopstick holders, food displays, everything you didn’t know you needed. I kept thinking I’d only browse for a bit, but I ended up wandering from shop to shop because there’s just so much variety and every store feels different. It’s the kind of place where you lose track of time without even realizing it. Honestly one of my favourite stops this trip, and I’d come back again in a heartbeat

fun place for anyone who loves cooking. You’ll find shops selling kitchen tools, food models, and pro japan knives. It’s a cool mix of tradition and creativity, great for both chefs and tourists.

Kappabashi Kitchen Street – A Hidden Treasure for Culinary Enthusiasts If you love to cook or appreciate good craftsmanship, Kappabashi Kitchen Street in Tokyo is an absolute must-visit. This stretch between Asakusa and Ueno is home to over 170 specialty shops, all dedicated to kitchenware. Whether you’re after professional-grade Japanese knives, beautifully glazed ceramics, or quirky plastic food models, you’ll find everything here in one long, fascinating walk. Prices are far more reasonable than what you’d pay at retail stores back home. Many items are sold directly by the manufacturers, so you’re cutting out the middleman and getting authentic, high-quality goods straight from the source. It’s a practical stop for anyone stocking up on essentials, as well as a fun place to browse if you’re just curious. We spent over an hour wandering from shop to shop and still felt like we barely scratched the surface. You’ll see knife shops offering custom engraving, stores selling restaurant signage, lacquerware, baking tools, and more. It’s a great blend of tradition and utility. Kappabashi has been Tokyo’s “kitchen town” since the 1920s, and its legacy continues strong. Whether you’re a chef, home cook, or just a foodie, this place is a dream come true. Bring a bit of extra luggage space—you’ll need it.

Great street to walk by, especially for your kitchen. They sell every possible thing that you would need. From pots and pans to very sharp and beautiful knives. I got a set and the hospitality is very nice to from many trying to sell you things. The building having cool designs such as teacups and a big chef was pretty awesome too. Amezaiku Ameshin (Hanakawado Studio) is a unique and fascinating Tokyo sweet that offers handcrafted lollipops shaped into intricate animal figurines. The process involves quickly shaping liquid sugar into edible sculptures using hands and tools before it solidifies. Visitors can witness this captivating art form in action and even participate in a hands-on class to create their own Amezaiku.
I just went to buy some candy, but they showed me inside the hands-on class. The students in the one-day experience course were all foreigners, and they were happily and smilingly creating rabbits. I would love to come back when I have time and experience it for myself!
Macaron — Google review
Highly recommend their rabbit candy making workshop. We were the only tourists in the session but they had English instructions. Book ahead if you can, but we got lucky with a walk in for their 1.30-3.30pm Saturday session.
Verity E — Google review
If you like art projects and are in Tokyo, taking a sugar rabbit-making class should be on your list. We were warned that the class would be in Japanese (which was fine; I used the Google Translate app to get a live transcript and it works well — and my spouse speaks Japanese). More important: There are helpful videos at the beginning that are captioned in English, and the instructor’s English was clear and he was clearly experienced in working with people from all around the world. You might get a great rabbit out of it (you get to make two practice bunnies and one final version to take away) or you might just have a terrific, hilarious time and learn about a new art. Note that the classes are only in Asakusa; their main shop is in Ginza, I think, but you can buy a selection of professionally made, jaw-dropping candies at the Asakusa store.
Betsy O — Google review
Awesome workshop! More you try - more you understand how hard and complex are things displayed in the hall. I had a lot of fun trying to make not-so-monstorous rabbit, my final result could rival Monty Python's by oozed bloodlust, but at least it looked somewhat similar to model rabbit. Probably next time in Japan I'll visit store and workshop again and tell my friends try it too.
Quilazi — Google review
This is an amazing shop combining art and sweets. Every item is hand crafted from sugar, from the deceiving simple lollipops to the more intricate fish, dragons, octopi 🐙 and other fascinating sculptures. Highly recommend making a detour here.
Nick J — Google review
I loved my workshop experience at Ameshin! There were instructions written in English and the instructor was able to communicate instructions well. I loved the little bunny I made in the class and the process really made me appreciate the skill and experience that goes into making the pieces they sell in the shop. You get a practice round with some brown sugar and then the actual attempt with white sugar. The sugar is definitely very warm and would burn if you hold onto it too long but not dangerous as long as you’re careful. A deluxe box upgrade is available for a small fee which I would recommend if you want your piece to make it back home safely. I dropped my box twice and my bunny remained intact. My class was just me and 6 middle schools students who made absolutely adorable pieces. The location of the workshop is also really nice because it’s very close to the Senso-Ji temple in Akasuka. I would 100% recommend this workshop and do it again!

I've done the build your own candy bunny workshop and it was so much fun. Totally recommend. The staff does not speak English but the language was not a barrier (there were instructions in English).

Nestled in the heart of the city, Narihira Kimuraya has been a cherished bakery for over 65 years, delighting locals with its artisanal breads. This beloved establishment offers an impressive variety of handmade goodies, including stuffed breads, pastries, sandwiches, and sweet treats. Among their standout offerings are the curry buns and custard-cream buns that have become local favorites.
It’s always the quiet and quaint places that hit different. We came here after a long and rainy day out and the vibes just hit different. Food was amazing, alcohol was even better. The owner was very friendly to us even though we only spoke English. We were very impressed by how much personality the interior design on the place had as well. I can’t stop singing praises about this place. Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was the rain, maybe it was combination of both, but this was one of the highlights of my trip to Japan. Highly recommend 👍🏼

At a time when it is not uncommon for a single piece of bread to cost over 400 yen, we have a nice selection of deli breads starting from the late 200 yen. We also have a lineup of small breads that cost around 100 yen, and all of them are reasonably priced. This time I was feeling a bit hungry, so I bought three colored breads, with three flavors: custard cream, chocolate cream, and apricot jam. (Translated by Google) I bought one for myself, but mainly as a gift. It doesn't seem to be gift wrapped. If you want it to look good, you need to wrap it yourself. Also, the expiration date is very short for chocolate. I thought it would last for 2-3 months, but it only lasted about 2 weeks. Hokusai chocolate will stain your fingers. Maybe it's because it's getting warmer. It is better to eat it after cooling it. Many of the menu items use alcohol, so some people may not be able to eat many of them. The taste is good, but it's a bit sweet, so I might choose it. There is a feeling that Kodiva's is gathered up. Slightly more expensive than Kodiva. Like Hokusai chocolate, the cost may be high because it has various parameters in terms of appearance? Could you please wrap it as a present? I don't mind paying a fee. I think it would make a great gift. It's strawberry sorbet with vanilla soft serve and a strawberry on top. It's ok, but for me it fell short of my personal expectations. The strawberries we used to steal by crawling under my neighbours fence taste 10x better. Ok I mean everything tastes better when you're high, but still. Overall it's "fine", but do not go to the fish market just for this. Yes, it looks more glamorous than the Brisbane strawberry ice creams. But the taste is nowhere near the same level. Unless you are super keen I would recommend finding some gelato instead. Failing that, a McDonald's strawberry sundae will do the the trick.

Such a cute cafe concept with Peko-chan. I ordered a mentaiko cream pasta which was delicious but unfortunately came with a yellow rubber band (similar to spaghetti color) buried within. I chewed on it for several seconds before realising it was a foreign object. The waitress brought back the rubberband to the kitchen and returned, offering to make me a new plate. There was a language barrier so I wasn’t sure if she mentioned to have a replaced meal and a discount, but considering that I had at best 3 tablespoons before the rubberband appeared, it didn’t seem like a fair compensation since they merely replaced my meal. Thankfully, I (or any child) didn’t get choked on it since it is a family restaurant.

The all-you-can-eat cake offer at Fujiya started in 2009 and prices have continued to increase, rising to about three times the starting price in February 2024. Despite the high prices, the service is persistently popular, and some shops appear to be crowded with groups of women. The all-you-can-eat Fujiya offers 30 different menu items. The classic 'Peko-chan no Hoppo' remains popular. Due to the price increase, it is necessary to eat six or seven, raising the bar. The traditional standard cakes and seasonal menu items are also still available, with the Strawberry Shortcake and Chocolate Fresh Cake being particularly popular. At the all-you-can-eat Fujiya cakes, customers can enjoy a variety of oddities in addition to the standard menu. Of particular note are the Premium Mont Blanc and Premium Dark Green Tea Cake. In addition, an all-you-can-eat comparison is also possible, and we tried two types of cake: 'Premium Thick Baked Cheese Cake' and 'Hokkaido Smooth Cheese Pie'. A drink bar is also available at Fujiya's all-you-can-eat cake shop, but the price is rising and cost-effectiveness is questionable. The taste is of high quality, but satisfaction with the price is low: seven cakes cost ¥3,391, which is satisfactory in terms of quantity but unsatisfactory in terms of the high price.

All you can eat cakes. The price is 2700¥ including taxes. I realized that after eating 4 cakes, mouth binds due to high sugar and cream. So it’s no point to pay 2700¥ and eat cake worth 2000¥. If I would have had more than 4 cakes, it would be a punishment not enjoyment.

There is an all you can eat cake menu so for people who really like cake and want to eat as much as you can then this is a place for you. Ordered the mixed fruit tart but was not impressed. The pastry wasn't fragrant enough and the tart wasn't that nice overall. Hence, it wasn't worth our while waiting and the price. But..., if u wanted to rest your legs and have a coffee, this place did the job! Other than that, we were not wowed by it.

This cafe always have long lineup, this time it was Saturday around 18:00 with only a few people waiting before us, for 15mins wait was not too bad for such a popular place. Ones I would get were already sold out but with 2 different tarts we tried were still good, not too sweet and easy to eat the whole if it was in front of you
Crystal P — Google review
Is it really worth standing in line for 1 hour for takeout? The fruit tart looked amazing, but taste was underwhelming. The yuzu cheese soufflé was very good.
Jane H — Google review
Only thing I don't like about this place is the unnecessary wait they usually have! I got lucky and could pick up what I wanted very quickly, but then the line formed and they only allow a few people at a time, makes sense, but if you already know what you want, waste of time waiting for idiots that take their sweet old time deciding on one slice. I usually buy a whole tart, so reserve one, but sometimes you just need one and don't want to be waiting around!

The seasonal strawberry tart (Kirapika), which is exclusively here served is my favorite. Normal tarts(winter fruits tart, chestnut chocolate tart etc.) were also tasty, but that especially delicious one can never be replaced.

Mister Donut is a popular spot near the Tokyo Skytree, offering a wide selection of delicious donuts and bottomless cups of coffee and cafe au lait. The cozy location has limited seating but is perfect for grabbing breakfast before visiting the Skytree. Despite some mixed reviews on taste, it's known for its amazing variety and special sets. The shop is often filled with youngsters, making it a refreshing stop in an area where aging population is common.
If you are near the Skytree, this is the perfect place to get the best donuts in the world. Since seats are very limited, takeaway is also an option. We had breakfast there before going to the Skytree.

My husband and I had lunch nearby, afterwards we wanted something sweet and we saw that there was ミスタードーナツ, so here we are. I’ve been wanting to try the very cute Pokemon donut, I’m so happy that they have it! We ordered that cute Pokemon donut and one kinda plain and normal one. I always love ミスタードーナツ’s chewy donut, and this time the Pokemon one, has the chewy part and the middle creamy donut part. The chewy donut was absolutely delicious, also the creamy donut was so soft and fluffy, makes you can’t stop eating, I love it! The plain one was delicious too, very soft and although it’s a bit sweet for me, but still acceptable. Always love ミスタードーナツ’s donuts! It’s the best doughnut shop for me and my husband!

I presume that the no photography refers to inside the shop. Photos shared are taken from outside the shop on the street. Limited seats inside for this branch. The tokyo skytree view from the street is magnificent. Got 6 pon de ring for 950 yen - 2 of each flavor. Slightly disappointed with the taste of it as it is a bit salty and not as sweet as I remember it to be.

Had some pretty funny moments in this cafe with some friends of mine during my stay in Sumida. The donut shop, Mister Donut - Ito-Yokado Hikifune Shop, used to not serve dim sum. However, upon returning after some time, it became apparent that they have started offering dim sum. Despite being known for its donuts, the dim sum is tasty and customers often request it. The cafe Doutor is a great place for nomads as it provides Wi-Fi and has many power seats available.

I stopped by the Mister Donut inside Ito Yokado Hikifune and really enjoyed it. The Pon de Ring donut was fresh and chewy—just the way it should be. The eat-in area was spacious and calm, which made it a nice place to take a break. It’s a solid spot if you’re craving something sweet while shopping.

Staff chased us out of the store even though it was empty. We ordered take out because we had 4 donuts, but one of the kids was hungry so we sat down and gave her one donut to eat. Staff immediately said we needed to go out because we ordered take out, even though there was very little customers and the store was mostly empty. Unreasonable. We are paying customers. (Translated by Google) The other day, I was waiting in line outside the store before it even opened to buy the new menu item, "Mochurin." The store opens at 10:00, and as soon as it opened, I lined up at the front of the queue, under a paper that said "Front of the queue." The customers who came after me also lined up behind me, and as soon as the store opened, a long queue formed. Then suddenly, an older woman at the store told me, "Please line up over there, not here," and made me line up in a completely different place, and in the end, even though I was at the front of the queue, I was put at the back. As a result, even though I had been in line before the store opened, I was put at the back, and the Mochurin was gone right in front of me. What did "the front of the queue" even mean? Even if the place to line up was different, is it really okay to guide someone who was at the front of the queue to the back? Everyone who was in line behind me was also forced to line up again, and some people were unable to buy Mochurin. The location of the waiting line is misleading and difficult to find, and forcing the person at the front of the line to join the back is unacceptable. I was in line before they even opened, so this was a really unpleasant experience. Please give me my time back. If you're a banana enthusiast, then the Banana Factory in Oshiage is an absolute must-visit! This charming shop, easily recognizable by its playful gorilla logo, specializes in an array of creative cakes, desserts, and pastries all featuring the beloved fruit. From delectable banana soft serves to rich chocolate banana profiteroles, every treat is crafted with care and bursting with flavor.
It is a small, but charming banana-themed dessert shop. The banana soft cream was incredibly smooth and flavorful—definitely one of the best I’ve ever had🍌 There is just one table for seating and a standing area outside. It's perfect for a quick stop to enjoy something sweet.

Came across this pastry shop while I was randomly walking around the area. Everything looks nice and I had a hard time deciding which to buy. The cake is moist and nice, the banana is sweet and the cream light and isn't greasy. Will definitely come again the next time I'm around the area. Highly recommended.

The Banana Factory was such a cute place. The banana Swiss roll was very light with nice banana chunks and not too sweet. One of my biggest regrets in Tokyo was not being able to go back to this place and buy a glass! (and more pastries, shakes). Everyday we would leave our lodging before they opened, and come back after they were closed. It was one of the first places we visited while being in the neighborhood, and well, bananas! They can do everything with them 💖 I still think of them.

I love ice cream and I couldn't finish the one I ordered here. I tried the pistachio, and from the reviews I've read, I thought it would be good. Honestly, I was really disappointed. There was almost no taste. It was just minimally "sweet" but I could barely make out the pistachio flavour. It was too bland that I couldn't bring myself to finish eating it. We also tried one that was like a cookie crumble and another that was Hojicha flavour. They were fine but nothing I'd recommend. The service was fine at most and the store is cash only. (Translated by Google) I ordered an ice cream cake through mobile and went to pick it up at the reserved time. As usual, I didn't line up for orders, but went directly to the register and told them I had a reservation. They said, "Please wait a moment," and I waited behind the line of people who seemed to be waiting to receive their items next to the register. Then the person at the front of the line said, "Excuse me, I have a reservation." . . "What! Are these people also waiting for a reservation? There were four staff members, but they were all busy dealing with regular customers. In the end, I was left alone for over 10 minutes, and the people in front of me were clearly irritated. In the end, I was told, "If you're a mobile orderer, please line up here," and was directed to a different place. At that time, the staff member asked the order numbers of the waiting customers. I was asked the same, so I told them. Then the staff member started looking for the reserved item in the ice cream in a large cooler box. Perhaps because the cooler box was placed directly on the floor, the staff member took the item they found out of the box and placed it directly on the floor. The worst of it was lying down. No matter how much food is in a box or bag, it seems crazy to leave it directly on the floor. Luckily, the item I ordered wasn't there, so that was a relief. After searching for a while, they started to hand over the items they found to the customer, but then an older woman who seemed to be in charge came out from the back and told the clerk to "serve the general customers," and the two of them went back inside the counter without any explanation to the waiting customers. At that moment, I said, "Hey, what are you doing with the customers who are waiting!" but she ignored me. After that, the clerk who had been looking for the item and handing it over came back and started asking other mobile order customers for their order numbers. He came over to me again, so I said, "I told you earlier, didn't I?" and the clerk told me my order number. He then asked, "Is it Popteen?" I replied, "Huh?" and the clerk then said, in a more forceful tone, "Is it Popteen?" I was struggling to understand what she was saying, and my wife answered from the side, "It's an ice cream cake," and we had a conversation. But if that's the case, she should have asked, "What did you order?" Well, it seems that this store clerk was actually in training, so it's not surprising that she couldn't do it... At this point, I had been waiting for 20 minutes. After waiting another 10 minutes, I finally received my item, and the lady from before was apologizing profusely, but I don't think she knew what she did wrong. I think waiting is unavoidable depending on how busy the store is. But it's not good to leave them without any explanation, and if they're going to prioritize regular customers and neglect mobile ordering customers, I wish they wouldn't do mobile ordering at all. I waited this time because I had already paid the money, but if that wasn't the case, I would have canceled.

It's so lacking that it's not within the margin of error because it's a mix. It's to the point where I wonder if they're doing it on purpose because they don't want me to come because it's a busy store. I'm always so disappointed when I encounter this employee. There are chairs and desks right next to the ordering counter, so you can eat slowly and you won't have to worry about where to throw away your cup after you finish eating. I had some business to do in Oshiage, so I looked at the map and thought, ``Ah, those rice crackers were so delicious back then,'' so I stopped by. A quaint appearance that gives you a sense of history. I thought about giving it to my sons and friends, but they couldn't accept credit cards, so they had to pay cash or paypal. Unfortunately, I only bought one for home because I had splurged on Solamachi and other products. But I thought once again, could it have been this delicious if I had it at home? As I was leaving, the staff member smiled and said, ``It's really delicious,'' and I nodded and left the store, but I was filled with emotion and realized that it was true. If I have a chance, I would like to go again and send it to my friends. By the way, I was told that the delivery would be by Yu-Pack. this was my favorite ice cream chain/spot of the trip! most of the night ice spots are amazing but this one imo was better than the nara one. the peach ice cream was SO good. it's very rich and surprisingly has enough peach topping for the whole cup. i liked that the peach was diced rather than in big chunks you have to break apart. when you get to the bottom, there's cereal pieces that get coated by the melted icecream so it's like you get a cereal milk.. palate cleanser LOL service was so nice and efficient! line was long but we really weren't inside for more than a few minutes. they probably only take a minute per icecream you order. i think if you have the LINE app and.. do something... its 50 yen discount? on the night we went they offered mitsuya cider/orange juice but i think that's just because it was a festival day 🥲 we didn't have it but after we ordered they were kind enough to give us some anyway!! would definitely go out of my way come back next vaca 🤓

Mayonaka Farm ice cream is thoughtful, smooth, and prepared quickly. I really enjoyed the ice cream because the layers in each cup synergize well. Their cow apron uniform brought a smile to my face as well. I ordered the "Honey Lemonade" which was exactly as expected with honey and a slice of lemonade on the top, followed by ice cream, and finally lemonade on the bottom. Ice cream is smooth and rich and complimented the sourness of the lemon. No complaints on service. The ice cream came out quickly (less than 5 minutes) on a weekend night. Even when there was a line, I don't remember standing in it for longer than 5 minutes. There is an english menu as well. There aren't any seats inside or outside the store. There is a table inside to take quick photos, but expect to finish your ice cream standing. Overall, I'd come back. The ice cream was delicious and we received it with little to no wait.

Nestled in Tokyo's sumo town, Kohiru-An is a charming dessert spot known for its delightful shaved ice treats. The menu features classic Japanese kakigori toppings like matcha, kuromitsu, and kinako, as well as unconventional flavors such as tomato, crunchy almond, banana tiramisu, and lychee tea. What sets Kohiru-An apart is the special taiyaki monaka that accompanies certain orders.

Line starts forming around 9am, sign up sheet comes out around 945-10am, opens at 11am. By opening time the queue will be 2-5 hours long on the sheet. Seems like they turn about 15 customers per hour, which is kind of slow for a kakigori shop. All the kakigori are milk base with various toppings, so the variations in flavor are relatively subtle. They have some weird rules, like the fact that tables which can easily fit 4 and have 3 stools can only seat 2, or that certain specials can only be ordered if you order a large size of some other kakigori. The large sizes are legit huge.

(Translated by Google) Their signature product is the seemingly unusual Cafe au Lait Daifuku. It looks like a long-established Japanese sweets shop. It's like a slightly Western-style arrangement of Daifuku, but it's surprisingly delicious. They have two types of fresh dorayaki: red bean and chocolate. The chocolate version is like a dorayaki with chocolate cream sandwiched between the dough. The red bean version is made by mixing the whipped cream well, without the cloying sweetness that whipped cream is known for. The mitarashi dango has a nice sweetness from the sauce and the slight bitterness from the burnt dango. Cashless payment is possible, but the owner says that the machines are often not working well, so it's recommended to have cash or PayPay ready. There used to be a famous Japanese confectionery shop in my hometown, but it closed down due to lack of a successor...I've visited as many shops as I could on my bicycle, but the only thing they didn't have was mochi sweets. I love the Japanese sweets that my father, who has become ill and can't go out anymore, loves, so I'm happy that there's a shop where he can buy them. By the way, the mochi sweets I'm looking for are different from daifuku because the base is a mochi with a decorated outer shell and the inside is white bean paste (sometimes colored to match the surrounding decorations). The sweet bean paste is moderately sweet and melts in the mouth, complementing the accompanying tea. I'll keep looking for it in the future.

I went on the first train in the morning, but apparently it was sold out, so this month I decided to get revenge by driving! I was able to buy freshly cooked sekihan. It seemed like it was sold out in about 10 minutes, so it was just the last minute. It was early in the morning in the downtown shopping district, but there were more people than just the shopping street... Sekihan was very delicious! I had only ever eaten cold sekihan. I also bought Kashiwamochi. If you live nearby, why not wake up early and go?

I was drawn to the Mame Daifuku lined up at the store and stopped by to buy some. It's quite heavy, The mochi dough has a strong saltiness instead of the beans, which is innovative! But it's delicious. The other Japanese sweets look delicious, so I'm planning to go buy them again.
