The Tsukiji Outer Market is a bustling hub of fresh seafood and local delicacies. While the wholesale fish market has moved to a new location, the outer market continues to attract visitors with its wide variety of seafood, sweet treats, vegetables, and pickles. In addition to food, visitors can explore knife shops and kitchen supplies. The market also features restaurants where guests can sample delicious dishes. It's a popular spot for tourists seeking an authentic culinary experience in Tokyo.
An absolute paradise for food lovers! The freshest seafood you can imagine — I tried some incredible tuna that just melted in my mouth. The market is full of colors, energy, and amazing smells, with stalls offering sushi, oysters, grilled scallops, and all kinds of snacks. Don’t miss the delicious ice cream — perfect after a seafood feast! Great place for photos too — every corner is full of life and color. A must-visit when in Tokyo!

Definitely not a cheap venture it is still a must try experience. It's just hard to know what to get and from where without knowing a local. The sashimi choice is phenomenal as is the stalls offering everything from giant grilled scallops, sea urchin, fresh oysters and Okonomi-age which is my new favourite street snack. Best to walk the market (it's not huge) then decide what you like the look of and at what price and then go back to eat. The Whale Sashimi was nothing like I'd tasted before - an acquired taste that was best described as the kangaroo of the sea! And I opted to try the Tuna Sashimi from Sushizanmai as price vs value was the best. However, if you are a sushi aficionado looking for a top-tier experience it is a little less “magical” than the smaller, specialized sushi shops or high-end omakase spots. I loved the Mitarashi Dango and I prefered the hot Tamogayaki on a stick better than the cold pre-prepared options. The Wagyu Beef Tacos from Wagyu Jyu Jyu was also a win and are a tasty, budget Wagyu fix — not as luxe, but worth it for the salsa onion. To wash it all down do not go past a Muscat Grape Smoothie, my newest addiction! And a hidden gem are the Pork And Chicken Dumplings from Suga Shoten and as an added bonus are one of very few that take card.

Always a place to go to enjoy the freshest. However price has gone up and some shop has became more of a gimmicks to the heavy tourism. So much shops to choose from and mostly taste so good. Shops closed early so do come early. However it's ok to come after lunch ard 2-3 too if cannot wake up as there will be 50% clearance discount for some shop planning to close early or soon. Still a highly recommended place to visit and enjoy.

The Tsukiji Outdoor Market is an amazing experience! So much incredible fresh seafood, delicious street food, and a lively atmosphere. The vendors are friendly, and there’s a great mix of traditional and modern Japanese snacks and gifts. Perfect spot to explore, eat, and soak up the local culture! 🐟🍣

# 🇯🇵 Tsukiji: Early Morning Charm Meets Tourist Traps Tsukiji is rather worth an early morning visit—there’s something quite authentic about the old Japanese atmosphere that lingers in the narrow lanes. However, do tread carefully. Establishments charging 5,000 yen for a single beef skewer? That’s what one might call the textbook definition of an “intelligence tax” aimed squarely at tourists 😅 A reliable rule of thumb: Stick to spots where you see Japanese locals queuing up. If the clientele is entirely tourists, well… your wallet will thank you for walking past. 💡 Quick Tip Early mornings offer the best atmosphere, and following the locals never steers you wrong.

• The Tsukiji Outer Market (築地場外市場, Tsukiji Jōgai Shijō) is the area that remains after the wholesale inner market moved to Toyosu. • It’s a lively, working market district where both professionals (chefs, restaurateurs) and tourists shop. • The streets are narrow and filled with a mix of seafood stalls, restaurants, dried‑food shops, and kitchenware / knife shops. • There’s a real “market” feel: corrugated roofs, old signage, and a history that goes back many decades. What to Eat • Seafood Bowls (Kaisendon / Donburi): One of the biggest draws — many shops serve fresh kaisendon (rice bowls with raw seafood). Live Japan notes bowls with uni, tuna, ikura, etc., usually between ¥1,000–¥2,000 for good quality. • Street Food: There are lots of snack‑type stalls: grilled scallops, whole prawns, seafood skewers. • Non-Seafood Options: You can also find tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), tempura, ramen, and traditional sweets. • Kitchenware & Knives: Tsukiji Outer Market is famous for its professional-grade knives and cooking utensils — great spot for culinary gear shopping. • Authentic Market Feel: Even though it’s very tourist-visited, it retains real working-market energy. • Wide Variety: You’re not just limited to seafood — lots of food variety + shopping. • Fresh Seafood: Because many shops still deal in real wholesale or “trade‑level” seafood, the quality can be very high. • Early Morning Charm: The best time to visit is early morning — many shops open very early, and you’ll avoid some of the crowds. • Expert Advice Available: Some vendors are very knowledgeable; if you’re buying ingredients or knives, you can ask for tips. • Great for Photography: The old-style market architecture, narrow alleys, and food stalls make for very “Tokyo market” photo • Crowds: It gets very busy, especially mid‑morning (around 9–11 am) when tourist foot traffic peaks. • Limited Afternoon Hours: Many stalls close around early afternoon (some shops close by ~14:00). • Not All Shops Open Every Day: Some shops close on Sundays and some Wednesdays. • Touristy Prices: Some visitors feel that food, especially sushi or donburi, can be more expensive than what locals pay. > “Food at the Tsukiji outer market is not a good deal … it’s not a place to go for a bargain.” • Photo Etiquette & Space: The market is crowded and narrow — be careful when taking photos, don’t block walkways, and ask before photographing shops. • Luggage & Bags: Large bags and strollers can be cumbersome; the official site advises storing large items to keep lanes clear. • Go Early: Aim for early morning (around 7:00–8:30) to catch the market vibe, good food, and fewer crowds. • Bring Cash: While many shops accept cards, smaller stalls may be cash-only. • Sample Before Buying: Many food stalls let you try small items; and for kitchenware, vendor staff often give advice or show how to use tools. • Plan What to Eat: Make a “food crawl” — pick a few must-try stalls (seafood bowl, grilled scallop, tamago, etc.) rather than trying to eat everything. • Check Shop Open Days: Because of varied closing days (especially Wednesdays and Sundays), check the market’s website or shop list before going. On the flip side: some say “food is good, but make sure to go early – otherwise you’ll hit crowds and limited selection.” • According to Good Luck Trip, there are about 400+ shops, making it an excellent place to both browse and eat. • Definitely Worth It If You: • Love seafood and want to try quality fresh Japanese seafood bowls. • Enjoy food markets, street food, and culinary culture. • Are an early riser and don’t mind navigating narrow alleys. • Want to combine shopping for food + kitchen tools + souvenirs. • Maybe Skip / De-prioritize If You: • Only have a short trip to Tokyo and don’t care much about food markets. • Don’t like crowded tourist spots. • Prefer “budget-only” food — it’s not always super cheap for what you’re tasting. Beware of overpriced shops, as 90% are foreign tourists.

The older original fish market has been relocated and now its two newer buildings. The newer buildings certainly dont have the same vibes as the older fish market. There are however alot of small shops along the streets nearby and it is still very worthwhile to come and take a look. You can see many different things from fresh seafood to matcha shops to sushi shops to knife shops and many many more. Definitely should come and visit.
SL W — Google review
Definitely a tourist trap, but better than Nishiki market in Kyoto. Street food is pretty good. Expect a crowd even on weekdays. I'd come back for some specific food stalls (tamagoyaki on a stick, strawberry tanghulu, wagyu noodles, fresh fruit, grilled shellfish)

Tsukishima Monja Street is a food lover's paradise, offering a wide array of battered and griddled monjayaki pancakes with various toppings. This area is renowned as the birthplace of monjayaki, a beloved local dish in Tokyo. With over 70 restaurants to choose from, visitors can indulge in this unique dining experience where they can cook their own monjayaki on hot plates at their tables.
❇️ Tsuki-shima Island. 🟧Very interesting. ************************************** ● We saw school kids about 7 to 8 years old coming home to Tsukishima island alone - unaccompanied by parents. They are so highly independent. ✅️Amazing. ●Tsuki-shima island. This is an island-residential neighbourhood located near Tsukiji market. ➡️ It is prime estate, and home to many young couples and young families. ● It has a homely neighbourhood feel like my Toa Payoh Central ( the town I live in Singapore). ❇️ It is very relaxing here, and people are friendly. ● We saw many school children coming home to this neighbourhood.

A good selection of traditional restaurants worth a visits, it's more traditional around here so good if you're looking for something that you won't find anywhere else

Many of the shops weren’t open during the day. It feels like a newly developed commercial area.

Now, if you are stating in Ginza and have a craving for Monja - head here on the bus! Charming street filled with about 80 places to eat - the smells will lead you to the one that is right for you! Yes, you have to make your own dinner - but that's the fun of it, right? Careful - some shops have smoking permitted.
Jim R — Google review
We made a stop here to try monjayaki for the first time before heading to kidzania. Chose to dine at Daruma Monjayaki shop just opposite the Monja street information center. You can always get a guide map from the information center as they have a list of all the shops along the street or make a reservation online before hand. We were short on time so we chose whichever was closest but it was nothing short on experience. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful with ordering. They’ll cook for you on the spot so you can just sit back and relax. Was surprised at the side of it and wondered how can my daughter and me finish it but we managed to finished every bit of it! Will be back again on our next trip to explore more!
Jasmine — Google review
It’s a unique and cool sight to see so many restaurants in close proximity, all competing with the exact same food. No guarantee you can get into any single one, but walk around and you’re sure to find a shop without too much of a wait where you can get some authentic monjayaki.
Jacob N — Google review
Too quiet as a tourist street. 20% of the shops are still closed (probably due to COVID). Very few people walking down and /or eating there. However just before I left, look whom I bumped into! I met the symbol of this island! What a luck!

Narisawa is a renowned fine-dining restaurant in Tokyo, Japan, known for its innovative and carefully sourced seasonal menu. Chef Yoshihiro Narisawa combines French cooking techniques with Japanese cuisine, creating an eclectic modern dining experience. The restaurant's swish, modern dining room and gleaming kitchen offer a polished ambiance. Diners can expect creative dishes featuring Japan's seasonal ingredients, such as Toba oysters from Mie prefecture and hirame Carpaccio with scallop cream sauce.
What an experience! And I mean EXPERIENCE. From baking fresh bread at the table to the attention to detail out forth on each plate, the whole production sang brilliance. I admit I did not know Narisawa had two Michelin stars when I dined (a friend who apprenticed under Chef told me to eat here), but I think that almost helped not have any expectations. The service staff was polite and knowledgeable. Chef was even willing to accommodate my shellfish allergy. It’s a small and minimal space, but feels open and airy. It was perfect for a celebratory dinner with friends!
Jules F — Google review
Everything I’d expect from a 2 Michelin stared restaurant in Japan. The intent of every dish, every ingredient, even every movement of the waitstaff was recognized. The dishes prepared were beautiful and delicious, the descriptions were just detailed enough for you to spend extra attention to each bite. The message of seasonality and sustainability was received. It was one of the more memorable tasting/omakase meals I have partaken in because of its precise and clean flavors. Can’t wait to visit during a different season!
Scott S — Google review
My wife and I visited Narisawa to celebrate my birthday and had the pleasure of experiencing their Autumn Collection: Innovative Satoyama Cuisine. The ambience was simple and zen, providing a calm and elegant setting for the meal. The serving staff were consistently pleasant and friendly, enhancing the overall dining experience. Our favourite dishes included the Scallop from Hokkaido, cooked to perfection with an exquisitely soft and tender texture, complemented by a delicately rich sauce. The Hairy Crab with Salmon Roe, Hokkaido Sea Urchin, and Rice from Ehime and Kyoto were equally impressive. The rice, prepared much like a risotto, was perfect, and the seafood was handled with such finesse that every bite was a delight. The Langoustine from Kanagawa brought a wonderful taste of the ocean, paired beautifully with a homemade tomato sauce. A particularly memorable moment was watching the “Bread of the Forest” – Moss being baked right in front of us on a hot stone — a fascinating and delicious touch. The only slight downside was that the wine introduction felt a bit pushy at the beginning. Otherwise, everything was exceptional. It was also heartwarming to have Chef Yoshihiro Narisawa personally greeting diners, adding a special, personal touch to the experience. Overall, it was a truly memorable celebration, and we look forward to returning.
CB T — Google review
Narisawa is a fascinating combination of opposites - Fancy but hiding in a residential (?) building, personable but silent and cold, good japanese ingredients, but lacking on the Japanese aspect of the cuisine. Like many Michelin starred restaurants around the world, Narisawa serves semi-localized French cuisine. Despite the ingredients being sourced from all over japan, and being unique and high quality, the meal itself didn't feel very local - I would have loved to see some unique japanese cooking techniques. That said the food is good, and you could tell a lot of thought was put into the presentation of the dishes (I was most impressed by the bread baking in cherry blossom at our table). The staff were kind and the experience was personalized well, with my dietary restrictions well accommodated and our anniversary celebration. At the same time all the tables and chairs are pointed at the chef, and the kitchen works in complete silence. Narisawa was certainly an experience, and I'm glad I was able to try it. Would I be back? Unsure. But it was hands down worth a visit.
May H — Google review
It was my first time in Tokyo, and I was lucky enough to score a reservation at Narisawa. The entire experience was beautiful - thoughtful, inspiring, and artfully curated from start to finish. Every dish told a story, and its presentation perfectly complemented the overall journey. Added on the sake pairing and it was well worth it!
Naomi L — Google review
Dining at NARISAWA was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, everything felt refined and intentional, from the beautiful plates and atmosphere to the flawless service. The food was true fine dining in every sense. Each course was creative yet deeply rooted in Japanese tradition, with flavors that were precise, bold, and memorable. Even something as simple as the wasabi sauce stood out and left a lasting impression. The entrance of the restaurant is towards the back of the building it was a little bit confusing and not very well marked. Did you know NARISAWA has been ranked among the World’s 50 Best Restaurants and is known for its innovative approach called “Innovative Satoyama Cuisine,” which celebrates nature and sustainability? That philosophy comes through in every bite. What makes NARISAWA so special is the way it combines artistry, hospitality, and taste into one seamless experience. It is the kind of restaurant that makes you say wow at every step. Truly one of the finest dining experiences in Japan.

Green tea from Fukuoka was so good and very fresh. Sake from Toyama Fried Squid with caviar on top. It was so crunchy and delicious The grilled scallop has umami flavor , with the onion sauce cream and dashi and bonito. Th creas was so delicious. It is hit my spot. The Eel with corn and truffle was good but not my favourite. The bread of the forest was really impressive. They baked it in front of us. I can taste the orange inside the bread and it enhanced when I added butter inside the bread. The grouper was good, well balance, soft like tofu and no smell at all. The wagyu beef so delicious and it was medium rare. The sauce was ok. The Dark brown sugar was so tasty and bouncy very well match vanilla ice cream. The Melon was the star, the cream carbonated was surprised me. It was so unbelievable good The Hebesu and honey was very delicious too. It was well balance with honey and a little bit tangy flavour We got surprise cake for our reunion. So thoughtful and well deserve as Michelin double stars. The Staff very polite and informative. For sure, I will come back. The price for the quality food and service worth it because they looked the specialty each part of Japan

We had an exceptional dinner, opting for the wine and sake pairing. They were incredibly accommodating of my girlfriend’s vegan dietary restrictions, and every dish we tried was outstanding. The pairing of Japanese wines and premium sakes was the perfect complement to the meal. This was hands down the best food we had on our trip, and possibly the best meal of the year. In my opinion, they are fully deserving of a third Michelin star. We can’t wait to return!

Restaurant
L’Effervescence is a renowned two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Japan, currently ranked 26th on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list. Chef Shinobu Namae combines French culinary techniques with fresh Japanese ingredients to create inventive dishes with philosophical titles reflecting his commitment to nature and the environment.
L’Effervescence is an extraordinary dining experience! This three-Michelin-starred restaurant masterfully blends Japanese precision with French elegance, creating dishes that are both innovative and deeply rooted in seasonal flavors. Every course is a testament to the chef’s artistry, showcasing beautifully composed plates with the finest farm-to-table ingredients. The flavors are delicate yet bold, with a perfect balance of tradition and modern creativity. The service is impeccable—gracious, knowledgeable, and perfectly attentive without being intrusive. From start to finish, L’Effervescence delivers a truly unforgettable culinary journey. A must-visit for anyone seeking world-class dining in Tokyo!

First time at a 3-star restaurant. The service and ambiance was top tier, as expected. The staff was beyond welcoming and kind, not just polite but making sure they could do anything to enhance our dinner experience. Restaurant was dark but there was a moderate spotlight at each table to ensure good visibility. The courses were all good, the duck and grouper were my favorites, as was the dessert, but all in all, a fantastic dining experience.
Ghazanfar A — Google review
We had a wonderful experience at L’Effervescence, the restaurant. Every bite was like a flavor explosion that took us to a whole new level. As we stepped into the restaurant, we were immediately enveloped in a sense of hushed elegance, where the lighting was soft and the minimalist design made the whole experience feel like a retreat from the chaos of the city. The chef’s passion and creativity shone through in every dish, and you could taste the love and care that went into each one. The outstanding dishes that stood out the most were: Salad > Chapter II: Harvest Journey This was truly a masterpiece. With 62 types of ingredients, each bite was a symphony of flavors and textures. The freshness and crispness of the ingredients shone through, and the way each component complemented the others was nothing short of divine. Fish > Chapter IV: Across the Ocean A masterpiece! The super-chilled, aged grouper was marinated to perfection and grilled to bring out its tender texture. The Japanese spiny lobster Américaine sauce added a rich, creamy element, while the parsnip purée, pickled celeriac, and chrysanthemum flowers added a delightful contrast of textures and flavors. The lemongrass oil brought everything together beautifully. What truly stood out was the freshness and oceanic flavor that came through in every bite. The fish had a tender yet satisfying texture that made each mouthful a delight — a truly outstanding dish that showcases the chef’s skill and creativity. Duck > Chapter V: Catching Fire The other standout dish was the wood-fired Kyoto duck breast, served with a rich red wine sauce and sautéed red onion in white wine sauce. The duck breast was cooked to perfection, tender, medium-rare, and melt-in-your-mouth. The skin was crispy yet delicate, without being too crunchy or soft. It was a masterclass in texture and flavor , simply wonderfully tender. Every element was individually distinct, yet harmonized beautifully, creating a truly unforgettable culinary experience.

Highlight of our Japan trip. From start to finish, in terms of food, it was phenomenal. Every course was so tasty in its own ways. Loved all of them, but my personal favorite was the 63 ingredient salad course and the grouper course. Service was friendly and fun, but yet professional and formal. The som helped us picked a great bottle of orange wine. The tea ceremony at the end of the meal was also very poetic. Definitely will come back again!!
Jason L — Google review
Easily one of top 3 stars restaurant i've ever eaten ( i have been a fan of them since they was 1 star back then in 2019). The service, ambience, curated japanese local ingredients and food execution was on another level.
Erick C — Google review
L’Effervescence is a Michelin 3-star French restaurant in Nishiazabu, Tokyo. Hidden quietly next to a temple, the restaurant looks like a modern mansion. The contemporary design of the dimly lit main dining room is serene and elegant. Servers are professional, attentive, and welcoming. Yuki-san and Takumi-kun are especially helpful and accommodating. Online reservation is straightforward. There is only one omakase menu for dinner (JPY 36,000/person), which is mainly composed of seafood, meat and produce from Japan. The evolutionary Japanese-French cuisine is delicious and full of surprises! The Kyoto Nanatani Duck Breast main dish and the Duck Thigh Ravioli simply rock your palate. Who would think of combining 56 kinds of Japanese vegetables and fruits to make a salad dish?! Mixing your own “Matcha Latte” in your mouth is the definition of evolutionary for sure! Even the final cup of drip coffee does not disappoint!
XO H — Google review
Everything was perfect. Nothing extravagant. No caviar, no foie gras. The chef used all Japanese (organic) ingredients, even their olive oil, cheese and wine. I can really feel the chef deeply respects Japanese farmers. Every dish is made from simple food combinations yet it tasted complex. Service was superb. The servers were friendly, one of them knew I went to volunteer at a japanese organic farm, and he recommended a farmer's market in Tokyo for me to visit. The restaurant work culture must be very nice too as they even showed me pictures of the restuarant staffs visiting farms to pick fruits, and holding kelp harvest workshops. They even publish a sustainability report for the restaurant. They even give out souvenirs for us to choose, which are all local produces the restaurant uses. The experience is very worth the price, I would def save money to dine again when I visit Tokyo
Melody F — Google review
The service was excellent, and the restaurant was very accommodating of my girlfriend’s vegan dietary needs, which we really appreciated. The first three courses were fantastic, with some dishes being finished or prepared right at the table, adding an interactive and enjoyable touch. However, the remaining courses were unfortunately underwhelming. While there are many things the restaurant does well—especially the attentive service and creativity in the opening courses—for a 3 Michelin star restaurant, we had hoped for a higher level of consistency throughout the entire meal.

Tonkatsu restaurant
Restaurant
Butagumi, located in Nishiazabu, is a popular tonkatsu restaurant offering a wide variety of pork cuts from different prefectures of Japan. The restaurant has a small seating area, so reservations are recommended. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the menus are available in English. Butagumi is dedicated to deep-frying pork in panko breadcrumbs to create an authentic Japanese taste experience.
Butagumi in Roppongi area of Tokyo. This place has been written about by many raving bloggers. Which was the reason I was a bit skeptical as most of the blogs were in english and therefore it might have been another good but 'gaijin' tourist attraction. I was so wrong! This place is AMaAzing! I had my lunch twice in the same sitting as it was that good and my bill was just $70!!!! Just look at that menu. There are 30 varieties of pork! For my first lunch I tried the Kinton pork, oMG! It was probably one of the most flavorful pork I had this year! My second lunch I wanted to test this much talked about Mangalista hungarian pork and it was a bit of a let down after all the things I have read about it. The texture is more meaty than fatty. I am so going back to try the other varieties.

What can I say, this place was absolutely delicious! It had the thickest tonkatsu loin I had ever eaten. The restaurant is quite charming inside an old house. This place has been featured in many blogs, so it's wise to book a reservation ahead of time or you can try to call in to find a table. I usually try not to go to places that are heavily influenced by influencers, I honestly don't think they need influencers help at all. In fact, normally it's a turn off. But in this case, I'm happy that I went. I'll just let the pictures speak for itself.

This place is truly amazing! We have tried many Tonkatsu and this is by far the best one we’ve had. The staff is support friendly and the atmosphere is great. I’ve made it tradition to eat here every time I visit Japan. I’ve taken different people and they have all loved it. Highly recommend

Tucked away in an alley, that can be hard to find at night. Friendly service & love that you can choose the amount of fattiness that you want for the katsu. Not dry & not greasy or oily. They also educate you on how to eat it properly too! Cute decor as well - all things pig related.

I don’t like pork much but this place was delicious. Perfect crispy and fatty enough without being overly fatty. The fried was perfect. Small cozy spot with WiFi. Got the tenderloin. Unlimited rice and cabbage.

The best Tonkatsu we’ve ever had! It’s no surprise this restaurant is so famous and only accepts customers with reservations. We did our research on the best Tonkatsu spots in Tokyo, and Butagumi consistently appeared at the top of every list. So we decided to give it a try — and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of our entire trip. The service was outstanding, and the food was simply exceptional. The quality of the pork far exceeded our expectations: crispy on the outside, fresh and juicy inside, with an aroma unlike any pork we’ve ever experienced in our lives. We’re not exaggerating when we say this is the best Tonkatsu we’ve ever had. If you’re visiting Tokyo, Butagumi is absolutely a must-try.

Delicious, best tonkatsu I've ever had, in a family-run, lovely environment. We dined here the first night in Tokyo: couldn't have asked for a better welcome. Highly recommended.

A very small restaurant tucked away in the streets of Roppongi. We waited for about 30 minutes and were one of the last orders of the night. Despite most of the items sold out by the time we’d ordered, it was still a really good experience. The pork was juicy and moist. The batter was crispy yet light. A highlight was also the smoked tomato appetiser. It was juicy and unlike any other tomato I’ve had before.

Unagi restaurant
Restaurant
Unagi Obana is a renowned unagi restaurant in Tokyo, often compared to the famous Nodaiwa. Established during the Meiji era, it specializes in Kanto-style unagi preparation, ensuring incredibly tender and flavorful eel dishes. Despite its popularity, patrons are willing to wait in long queues for a taste of their delicious 'Unaju.' The restaurant's commitment to cooking each dish fresh to order maintains its high quality and integrity.
Came for lunch, not disappointed. The eel is extremely tender, rich in eel flavor, light in sauce, neither too salty nor too sweet. You can absolutely taste the rich fatty flavor of the eel and the fragrance of rice. Love the eel liver soup as well. Had 久保田 純米大吟醸 with the eel. Would come again. The only downside is it seems the English menu has a higher price than the Japanese menu.

Obana unagi We arrived 15.06 for lunch and there were 2 more people before us and by the 15.30 they opened the courtyard (half an hour before start 9 more people arrived at courtyard. The ordering process was swift she took our orders near 15.35 when it was 16.00 5 more people came and went in with the first guy infront of us, it was rude but i understand they were on some business dinner. By 17.00 our dinner was arrived. We ordered large and medium Unajyu. It was delicious, Eel was melting in your mouth with such delicacy, ı only wish the eel was more salty and saucy to allow rice to soak all the juice, but this was i can taste the eel better i think, the traditional atmosphere of the place is amazing, the overall even though it was kinda expensive this was an experience we shall savour. (Sorry my native language isn’t English, i tried my best to reflect my experience).

Well deserving of their Michelin ⭐️, this place excels in their food and service. They’re known for eel, which is the only entree on the menu. A few other side dishes are available to choose from, with the egg omelette and the chicken skewers being my favorite. A liver soup was recommended by the waitress, but it was really hot outside and I couldn’t handle hot soup. We arrived a few minutes before 10AM on a Saturday morning, and were the 7th in line. At 10AM, one of their staff came out and took down our party size and name, and then she let us inside the courtyard and took our order. It was 90+ that day, and the heat was unbearable, but luckily they have shaded seatings where we waited until they opened. Around 10:32AM, they placed a sign outside the front stating they were done accepting guests. I counted around 30ish people. The door opened at 11:30AM, and they let in a round of 15 people. The second round started about an hour later, or however quickly the food was served and the guests would eat. I suggest coming at 10AM and seating during the first round. The people who came 10 minutes after we did had to wait for the second round. The drinks and appetizers arrived shortly after seating. A short moment later, the omelette and skewers were served, and they were delicious. The eel with rice was the best I’ve ever eaten. If not for the bones, it wouldn’t even need chewing. I highly recommend the eel here, it was so good. The staff were friendly, and they spoke a little English, enough for us to order the menu and ask for directions to the restroom. Important points to note, this place is cash only. You’ll have to remove your shoes upon entering, so leave your holey socks at home.

Got there 45 minutes before opening time and I was the last person that got the spot 😅 waited a total of nearly 2 hours to eat unaju is not for everyone. But the eel is so tender, it melts in your mouth 🥹🥹🥹. Definitely the best unaju I have in my life

The staff knows English. The staff is very nice, service is amazing Their only entree is Unagi. It's amazing, 10/10 taste. It's so tender, soft, and buttery. We lined up at 9:54, were the first ones there. By 10:30 there were about 20 people in line. They open up at 11:30. They fit about 10 tables, 2 people each, so 20 people total for the first batch.

Disappoined, REALLY NOT WORTH I found this restaurant famous for grilled eel fish from Google Map, but I felt very very disappointed after visiting the place for dinner with my friend. First, the menu placed on Google was a few years ago, the price has gone up a lot, the medium eel fish rice cost Yen 6xxx , the large Yen 7xxx, we were asked that each of us ( two ppl) had to place at least 1 order of the above, so each person has to pay at least Yen 7xxx just for a small box of thin layer of rice and small pcs of thin grilled eel. Second, the eel looked okay in the photo but actually the meat quality was not fresh and tastless at all. In fact we were the only guests in the restaurant and we did not see anyone to queue up as mentioned in the reviews and photo. Last, the air conditioning was also poor and i sweated through eating.

Great Unagi Don, probably one of the best I've had. The unagi is extremely rich, fatty and creamy. Seasoning is good too, though I'd say a little weak for those with stronger pallette. What also sets this place apart is the level of service, the staff are just so nice and welcoming and the place will make you feel like home. You do have to pay a premium to eat here though. Can be around 10,000yen per person for an Unagi don. Overall 8.5/10, would return

What an experience Unagi Obana was. We Went an hour before opening time and there was already a small line. Luckily we made it through the first service. Speaking of service, it was top notch, the wait staff took our orders while we were in line and had our entree on our tables pretty quickly. The food, absolutely delicious eel. Never had any eel like this. It was butter in your mouth, not overly powerful on the teriyaki sauce which really brought out the full flavour of the Unagi. The combination of the rice was just a match made in heaven. You do have to pay a lot more for this experience but it is definitely worth it. Food 10 Service 10 Serving size 10 (just enough not to be too full) Ambiance 10 Value 9 49/50

Pizza restaurant
The Pizza Bar On 38th, located inside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Nihonbashi, has gained recognition for its unique approach to pizza-making. With a focus on creating an intimate and personal dining experience akin to sushi or kaiseki, the pizzeria offers elevated pies with distinctive bases made from a special dough ratio and fermented for two days. This results in exceptionally crisp and airy crusts that set it apart from traditional Neapolitan pizzerias in Tokyo.
This was my second visit to Pizza on 38th, and since my last visit the menu has changed to an Omakase format. Initially, I had some reservations about this, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and creativity of the menu. The chefs noted my dietary requirements and accommodated them thoughtfully by substituting ingredients while still providing high quality, locally sourced proteins. The chefs were extremely knowledgeable and prepared some of the best pizzas I have ever tasted. Each course was presented with care and precision. The difference in quality is evident. The flavours are vibrant and the freshness of the ingredients truly elevates the entire experience. I look forward to returning on my next visit.

We were lucky to get a pizza omakase reservation for lunch on our next to last day in Tokyo and it was an overall really great experience. Some people might be divided on whether this is worth the money because it’s just “pizza” but really that’s just simplifying the meal too much. Yes, it is multiple courses of pizza but the ingredients are the highest quality, uncommon and generally the flavor combinations are going to be different than any other pizza you’ve likely had before. I only deducted a star because I feel not every pizza course completely landed with me although most did. Plus, with their farm to table approach, the menu rotates every month and a half so I think definitely worth trying in at least two seasons of the year to see how it compares.

I wasn’t too sure what to expect especially after the sort of price I paid for this for 2 people. I have to say I very impressed after it. I enjoyed the whole selection of pizzas. The dessert I got was only ok though. I’m also not a big wine drinker so I asked for the cocktail menu, but there was only 3 options on it. I can’t remember what I ordered but it was tasty. I expected the main chef Daniele to make at least one of the courses, but all the pizzas were made by the sous chefs. Both sous chefs were very good so I can’t complain, just would have been nice to get a bit more time with main chef because that’s who I saw on all the social media post. Very happy over all.

I finally had the chance to dine at The Pizza Bar on 38th, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. This restaurant is extremely difficult to reserve, but the effort is more than worth it once you’re seated at the counter. The Pizza Omakase was a truly outstanding experience—the craftsmanship, creativity, and quality of ingredients were exceptional. Each course felt carefully curated, with flavors that were bold yet refined, and the balance of textures and toppings showed real artistry. It’s not just pizza, it’s a world-class culinary experience. The setting is intimate, service is impeccable, and watching the chefs prepare the pizzas right in front of you adds to the excitement. Without a doubt, this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Tokyo. If you’re lucky enough to secure a reservation, it’s an absolute must-try.

What a wonderful experience! My husband and I are from NY and enjoy Brooklyn pizza, but this Omakase style pizza course was spectacular. Just 8 customers including us (with my sister) were at the counter with two chefs and one assistant, and it was nice at-home setting. Course was including appetizers, 6 different kinds of pizza that shared, and dessert. The ingredients were from farms across Japan and Italy as fresh they were. Chefs made fresh pizzas in in front of us and stove baked right away. My favorite one was tuna with fig. The flavor was amazing as combination of two ingredients. Fantastic crews and entertainment with excellent foods. They were also very considerate and accommodating to food allergies if any. My sister has allergies from certain fruits and chefs were replacing with alternative only for her plate! (thank you!!) Omakase menu changes monthly as seasonal fresh ingredients. I highly recommend to anyone who loves and enjoys pizza.

Ever had a pizza Omakase? Italian Japanese fusion seating for 8 in an engaging interactive dinner is this place. A restaurant hidden within a restaurant on the 38th mandarin oriental Tokyo, this place is a gem. Reservations far in advance is a must. If you think you know pizza, you don’t know pizza til you’ve been here. A bucket list item for sure if in Japan.
M4l2K T — Google review
Visit 04.2025 Given the top pizza world rankings it holds, it was personally a disappointment. I will try to be objective. The price is just not worth the whole experience. The place is on the 38th floor of a fancy hotel, the ingredients I’m sure are top notch including Wagyu and truffle, but for 22,000 yen the taste profile is disappointing. For context I love pizza, and have had many American and Neapolitan styles and during a previous trip to Japan was mind blown by Pizza Strada, another top rated pizza restaurant in Tokyo. The course was an appetizer, 8 slices of pizza, and dessert. The style is not Japanese (soft thin crust). The dough is crunchy/hard, and they put way too much ingredients on each slice, with the taste having an identity crisis. I wasn’t sure what I was tasting and there was no harmony. They pride themselves in a specially prepared dough which I didn’t find that flavorful. The best slice for me was the margherita where the taste was simple and straightforward. This was a classic example of breaking the wallet for the fame and high end ingredients without the taste to back it up. If you want to cross off a top ranked pizza restaurant on your bucket list, go for it. If you want an honest good tasting pizza meal without breaking the bank, definite skip. I’ve enjoyed pizzas more at local joints that are 1/10 the price. I feel the taste is more for western people (I’m from Canada) than Asians and Japanese. Again if you want an idea of simple peak-tasting pizza, Pizza Strada is a great example.

Ryotei restaurant
Kikunoi Akasaka is a renowned high-end restaurant in Tokyo, offering traditional Japanese kaiseki cuisine that changes with the seasons. The menu is based on Kyoto's multi-course dining style and focuses on using the finest seasonal ingredients. The restaurant blends ancient traditions with modern techniques to create visually stunning and soul-satisfying dishes. The ambiance reflects traditional Kyoto, with bamboo-lined paths and wooden decor. Guests can choose between chairs or tatami mats for seating.
Despite being in Tokyo, this place makes you feel like you’ve been transported to Kyoto. If you’re seated at the counter, you can enjoy a beautiful view of a garden, adding to the serene ambiance. The food is incredibly fresh and delicious, and they keep things exciting by changing the menu every month. A unique touch is getting to see the live fish before it’s prepared, showcasing their commitment to freshness. The staff are friendly and attentive, making the entire experience memorable.

We came here on 15 April . It was a unique, exceptional and luxurious experience having the lunch Kaiseki at Kikunoi. Everything looked delicate , numerous elements and each bite made you feel like you were in heaven. Staff were friendly , courteous and super knowledgeable. We were presented with the official Kikunoi cook book that detailed all the dishes from the 4 seasons. 2 Michelin stars in 2025. Felt very honored to have a chance to dine there. 😍😍😊😊

The service is completely off the charts. Chefs did an awesome job describing dishes in English (because I can’t speak Japanese) and that is worth it already. Food is amazing. All 8 courses we had were fantastic, unique and special. Things assambles and prepared like we hadn’t tried before. Those sweetfish were terrific. I wouldn’t miss it at all if I have a chance to book it again. Ooh and the salt lemon ice cream…

We had an exquisite 8 course kaiseki lunch in a nice setting. Ingredients were very fresh and presentation exquisite. Taste was a bit subtle but varied and combined well.
BL L — Google review
It was the worst Michelin-starred restaurant that I have ever eaten so far. I seriously doubted the authenticity of all the positive comments. When I just entered the restaurant, there was a strong smell of burning charcoal which made me very uncomfortable. Fish should be grilled back in the kitchen rather than in front of guests. The appetiser was a crab jelly which was as salty as seawater. The cold-cut plate was poorly-presented. Taste was okay though. Sashimi was normal. Lobster sashimi was not matching with its miso sauce. The dried scallop inside the soup was very hard to bite. There was a sour green apricot in the soup which basically destroyed the taste of the soup. The grilled fishes were bitter, probably because the internal organs of the fish were not removed? The beef fillet of the main course was alright but the sauce was disastrous. It looked like curry but it tasted like mushroom and was way too thick in consistency and too much in volume. I didn’t even know what the green thing next to the beef was as the one serving us cannot speak English well. Grilled eel rice was great though. It was probably the best dish after-all. Dessert was a brown sugar ice-cream with some fresh fruits. It was soso. I can hardly believe it is a 2-starred Michelin restaurant given its mediocre taste, lack of creativity and yet very high cost. I would not recommend this restaurant people who have not tried a true starred restaurant before.

Wow. What an experience. Get a reservation in advance, dress appropriately and come hungry. There is a lot of food and it is all amazing. This is a 12 course traditional Japanese Kaiseki and not at all just tasting menu portions. Each dish is complex and the whole ensemble is very very well thought out. Heavy courses are followed by light ones and the chefs explain each of the dishes in detail. The menu changes by season to infuse the ingredients that are in season. Definitely an experience that is worth trying. I look forward to coming back.

Cocktail bar
Gen Yamamoto is a unique cocktail bar in Azabu-Juban, offering an intimate omakase-style experience with one man tending to eight seats. The menu features meticulously crafted cocktails made from locally sourced fruits and vegetables, such as hassaku citrus paired with Marc de Champagne and kiwi with soju and matcha. Each drink is stirred and measured by eye, then served in exquisite glassware alongside carefully selected flowers.
Amazing experience well worth the time. If you love cocktails this is like the top tier sushi bar equivalent where everything is hand crafted in front of you with the same level of skill and care. Great to experience with up to 8 people.

This place might not be for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. And reservation was easy, even though I live in Europe. If you want traditional cocktails - this isn't a place for you. But if you are looking for something new and special - you should definitely visit Gen Yamamoto. The cocktails were great, albeit unorthodox, and the barman was nice and professional. At first, I wanted to try 4-5 cocktails. But every drink was something special and every time I heard the ingredients I couldn't believe that this drink would taste good. But every time I was proven wrong. So I decided to go until the end - to the 7th cocktail. And it was the best of them all. Just some of the ingredients that were used: mashed potatoes, wasabi with pineapple, garlic brandy. One of the best drinking experiences in my life.
Felix M — Google review
Gen Yamamoto was a very unique cocktail experience. You have the option of choosing 4, 5 or 7 courses. 7 is a cool 10,000 yen. Yamamoto-san speaks English quite well and provides a course by course description similar to dishes being brought out from the kitchen at a Michelin restaurant. Every cocktail is prepared in plain sight as you would see at an omakase sushi restaurant. Nearly every cocktail is a blend of fruit or vegetables and one spirit. Yamamoto-san used Finnish whiskey in two of the cocktails, as well as sochu and brandy. My favorite was the tomato, lemon juice and whiskey blend. The smoky whiskey and fresh tomato juice complimented each other harmoniously. I’m trying to recreate it at home and the tomato jam seems to be the one missing element. You need to make a reservation over the phone starting from a week out. I asked my hotel concierge to call but Yamamoto-san requested to speak with my directly since he speaks English. There were two tourists from China and one from New York. Neither party stayed for all 7 courses, so I was the last one there. I will say that some of the reviews complaining about the lack of spirits used are valid. Yamamoto-san uses less than a shot of alcohol per cocktail so you end up getting more fruit and vegetable juice than a bonafide cocktail. That said, I still enjoyed the creativity behind each cocktail and left inspired but still needing more drinks. So I wandered into the neighborhood to find Bar Melt, which is a new bar with patrons smoking houkas but quality cocktails that have considerably more alcohol in them. Bar Centifolia is less than a block away from Bar Yamamoto but was closed that night. Tokyo Confidential is also very close by. Here are my tasting notes in the order that they were served: 1 - Yuzu and Sochu 2 - Strawberries and Daikon / Sochu 3 - Kiwi/Marc Grappier Brandy made from Pinot noir 4 - Soy Milk / Fava Beans / Palo Single Malt Whiskey from Finland 5 - Pineapple / Japanese Whiskey 6 - 🍅 Tomato/Lemon/Tomato Jam/ Benromach Whiskey 7 - Quince / Wasabi / Kyro Finnish whiskey

Gen Yamamoto is one of my favorite bars in Tokyo. It’s not your typical bar—you won’t find a Negroni or an Old Fashioned here. Instead, the experience is curated through a tasting menu of 4, 6, or 7 cocktails, each crafted with seasonal ingredients and a special selection of spirits. Every glass is a piece of art. The cocktails are delicate, precise, and thoughtful—you won’t get drunk here, but you’ll leave with a lasting impression. I recently visited and had a brief chat with Yamamoto-san, who told me the bar has now been around for 12 years. I don’t even remember when I first visited, but every time I return, it feels just as special. His glassware and ceramic cups are always stunning, and though I’ve always been curious about what happens to the old cups when he changes the menu, he never sells them. My favorite cocktails are always the ones with tomato. Typically, when you ask for a tomato-based cocktail, you get something resembling a Bloody Mary—but not here. Yamamoto’s tomato cocktails are unlike anything else, layered with such unique and unexpected flavors. The menu evolves with the seasons—summer brings brighter, more acidic drinks, while winter offers starchier, even warm cocktails. Every visit is a surprise, and every time I bring someone new, it becomes a one-of-a-kind memory for their trip. Even after 12 years, Yamamoto-san hasn’t lost his touch. His craft hasn’t declined—in fact, he continues to create and innovate, making each visit as special as the last. If you're looking for a cocktail experience that goes beyond just drinking, this is the place. Don't expect to get drunk. This is not a place for alcoholic beverages. Always make a reservation.

I wish I knew in advance how bad the place is, so I would not waste my time calling for a reservation but also pay all this money for juice served as a shot! Nice atmosphere, but these is not an alcohol tasting experience! There are way better bars in Japan!!!! BIG NO from me!!

Well crafted cocktails made with seasonal ingredients and the utmost care. You can choose 4-7 cocktails (don’t worry, all of them are quite small) husband and I each had 6 and honestly could have done 7. Everything we had was delicious and interesting. Gen Yamamoto takes great pride in what he does and it shows. While stoic and serious about his craft, he is also welcoming and is happy to answer any questions you have. Highly recommend that you make a reservation here for a unique omakase cocktail experience. FYI no food, just cocktails. My only complaint was that it was very quiet. Could have used some music.
Gabrielle K — Google review
A minimalistic experience with a host that makes you feel right at home. The drinks were simple and seasonal. They had between 2-3 ingredients. So each flavour was clear and easy to recognize. We went with 6 drinks and I only disliked one of them. The rest were really great. The atmosphere was relaxed and Gen was kind and welcoming. It is a great drink omakase experience.
Emil F — Google review
This is not a typical bar, so be prepared for things to be done (and cost) differently. I found out about it in a lonely planet book! The bar has a very minimalist atmosphere (there was no music, just the sound of water dripping) and can only accommodate 8 people at the time (we were 4 when I visited). To avoid disappointment, we had made a booking a week before going there (by phone). There are time slots and you get a cocktail omakase, ie. a flight of cocktails (between 4 and 7), chosen and created by the bartender Gen Yamamoto. The ones we had were fruity and light (so you don’t get drunk even if you have 7). My friend was rather disappointed, but I really enjoyed the experience! A flight of 4 cocktails costs £45 (about 8500 yen). Card payments accepted.

A very transitional eel place, we had 2 eel dishes that has Internal organs removed. Great Japanese dining experience, with good food! We couldn’t speak Japanese, but the server was very nice helping us with everything. Would totally recommend this place :)

Japanized western restaurant
Anago restaurant
Fish restaurant
Ponta Honke is a well-established restaurant that has been serving traditional regional dishes since 1905. The founder, who was once a chef at the Imperial Household Agency, introduced the famous Milanese style cutlet cooked like tempura. The restaurant offers a calm and comforting atmosphere, making it an ideal place for lunch or dinner. Their pork cutlets and tongue stew are highly recommended by visitors for their superb taste and quality.
This restaurant was listed on Michelin guide as a Bib Gourmand. It was relatively easy to find and had a traditional vibe with an open kitchen. We waited about 10 minutes before being seated on the second floor. We ordered pork cutlet, fried prawn, fried anago (eel), with rice/picked vegetables/miso soup. The pork loin cutlet was delicious - very tender with a nice crisp. The fried anago was my favorite and well worth the money. The prawn was sold at the market price, a little over 4,000 yen - also worth getting. Between the two of us, we paid about 80 USD. Definitely worth trying out if you’re willing to splurge a little!

Usually you can trust the Michelin guide for good recommendations but we left disappointed here. The tonkatsu was pretty good but it wasn't anything extra special that warranted the very high price. It was somewhat underseasoned. The cabbage salad was a huge disappointment compared to other katsu restaurants we tried because their dressing was liquid like soy sauce with some sweet flavor, with no other options for dressing. Honestly we had a better katsu meal at coco ichibanya.
Roxanne R — Google review
A really cool place to try a traditional tonkatsu In Tokyo. With 4 generations from the same family, the tradition is being perpetuated. The taste of the tonkatsu is precise and light, with the side dishes and miso soup, on the bolder side. I can appreciate why many locals come to this place. A must try if you are in the area.
MD N — Google review
I went there for dinner. The restaurant was a bit hard to find — there was no clear sign at the entrance, just a plain wooden door. When I arrived, there was one group ahead of me, and I waited less than 10 minutes for a table. I ordered the pork loin cutlet. I usually love tonkatsu, but this time I was quite disappointed. The breading didn’t stick well to the meat, and the pork wasn’t as tender as at other places. The sauce was average — not too sweet or salty. Considering the quality, I found it quite expensive for what it was.
C B — Google review
A cutlet restaurant with tradition atmosphere. They serve English menu and cutlet pork chop is alright. What amaze me is the cutlet squid, thick in size with very good texture , what a masterpiece! Waitress asked me politely and see if I need to have some more rice! (Note: restaurant close at 8pm)
Geoff F — Google review
Tonkatsu’s pork tenderloin is fairly tender and juicy, nicely done - but it could be better - the bread crumbs at the bottom of the tonkatsu is soaked by tenderloin’s vapor, some other places will try to avoid that by adding some space under... Their salad on the other side is just perfect. Overall, it’s a great restaurant worth trying.
Joseph S — Google review
What separates the tonkatsu here from other tonkatsu restaurant is that the natural sweetness and umami of pork are being maximized. It has 90% of protein and 10% of fats, but still kept moisture and tender, while other restaurant's uses fattier pork to achieve the same result. It certainly is pricier but you pay for the quality of the ingredient and skill of the chefs to cook it, and you will be a happy man in the end of the meal. P.S: Get there at least 20mins beforehand to avoid long lines!

Unagi restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Restaurant
Komagata Maekawa Asakusa Main Branch is one of the oldest and most renowned unagi restaurants in Japan, particularly in Tokyo. The restaurant offers classic Japanese tatami-style seating on its 2nd and 3rd floors, providing a picturesque view of Tokyo Skytree and the Sumida River through large windows. Their specialty dishes include Kabayaki and Unaju, which are prepared using a unique sauce that has been perfected over 200 years.
Taste really good and also nice view. For people who are looking for traditional unagi should try. Moreover, the service is perfect.
Tee L — Google review
Food is good but maybe a bit over priced. Service is excellent. Tables and chairs, for this price level, can be improved.
Richard L — Google review
FOOD 3 Unagi and side dishes are delicious, but I felt slightly overpriced even taking into account the setting and view. ¥2,000 for cucumber and eel is expensive. The day we went, we were told that we could only order the Large Unagi Bando Taro (their branded unagi) for ¥9,600. We did not have a choice. There are two other unagi shops in the area that don’t have the view, but provide better value at around ¥5,000 to ¥6,000 per unagi box. SERVICE 4 Professional, gentle ladies in kimono served us and frequently refilled our cold tea. There is some history to this restaurant that is outlined in the menu. ATMOSPHERE 5 The restaurant is located along the Sumida River. You’ll need to remove your shoes, change into slippers and proceed to the 2F tatami mat dining room which has a lovely view of the river. OVERALL 3.5 Overall, I think it’s a great place to take a date or have a family gathering that feels luxurious, but I probably would not go out of my way to visit again.
Barry L — Google review
Very good service with slippers and attentive staff. Atmosphere is great since the 2nd floor where the patrons sit can see the bridge and tokyo skytree. But we were seated in the corner table and couldn't see anything. The grilled unagi was good, but not that good to command 30k yen for 3pax. The unagi were cooked well but lacks flavor. There is a small bottle of teriyaki sauce i can add to the grilled unagi, but it didn't wow me or my family with me.

Sushi restaurant
Sushi Yuu, located in Roppongi, Tokyo, offers a traditional sushi dining experience known for its extensive three-hour meal. The menu features a variety of dishes such as sake, sashimi, crab and uni rolls, fried ayu fish, and grilled octopus. The restaurant is conveniently situated near public transportation and allows bookings up to a month in advance. With only ten counter seats available, guests can enjoy watching Chef Daisuke meticulously prepare each course while engaging with them.
SushiYuu is an excellent choice for anyone looking to experience high-quality sushi in Tokyo (especially for foreigners). The entire staff is fluent in English, making the experience welcoming and accessible. They are also happy to answer any questions about the menu, ingredients, and preparation, which adds a great educational aspect to the meal. For those new to this level of sushi dining, this is a fantastic place to start. The chefs are not only skilled but also open to sharing their craft, making the experience engaging and memorable. I highly recommend reserving a spot in advance to ensure seating at the counter, where you can watch the sushi master prepare each piece with precision. The Omakase meal is 23,000 yen (excluding drinks), which is well worth it for the outstanding flavors and top-tier sushi quality. An unforgettable dining experience, highly recommended!
Malkiel C — Google review
So good I went twice! Daisuke is a wonderful sushi master and host. You’ll find that many people come here from word of mouth. Recommendations from other friends around the world. You can now add me to that list of advocates. This is an omakase restaurant so you’ll be served by Daisuke himself over multiple courses… who will make his way around the 12 seats or so. There are a couple of private rooms I believe, but the counter is where I’d recommend you sit. You’ll then get to interact with Daisuke and the other patrons. As for the food, all of it is fresh from that morning with every single piece and course being better than the last. The core items (like tuna) will remain the same but they will mix it up depending on what is fresh that day. The drinks menu is Japanese and thorough… no menu per se, so just ask. I had beer, whisky high ball and hot sake… all good! Price wise… it’s omakase so not cheap. With the number of courses, the quality and the service I’d still consider it great value. I’ll return when I’m next back in Tokyo!!!

From start to finish Daisuke delivers an outstanding experience. We learned about and tasted many different types of sushi and the dessert was delicious too. I will be sending all my friends to his restaurant for sure. Daisuke is the man!

I went here during my Japan trip in April. The food was phenomenal, the explanations for each dish were lovely, the atmosphere of the place was great. I was able to make quite a few friends during this tasting as I was alone. I looked around for a while searching for a good omakase and I am beyond happy I chose this place, will definitely go back. The drinks were lovely and I loved trialing the different Tunas.

Spellbinding sushi experience! The food and atmosphere are exactly what you are looking for when you’re thinking about really good sushi. Daisuke is Chef/Owner/Host and he delivers again and again. Bring a solid appetite as you’re going eat well. Try some saki and the Suntory Masters Dream beer that is really good. Daisuke will handle the rest. If you’re going with a mixed crowd, vegan, or finicky sushi eater- don’t worry you will be catered to and made most welcome by this master sushi Chef and his group. Really delivers here. Enjoy a night out here you won’t regret it.

We came here on a recommendation from a friend and were so glad we did - this is the best omakase we had on our trip and the most delicious sushi we've ever had. There is a LOT of food, so please come hungry. The staff is all very friendly and fluent in English, so they took time to explain all the dishes and origins. The highlight was definitely the tuna prepared four ways from leanest to fattiest - super delicious and so interesting to learn a bit more about tuna! *Unfortunately, we came here after a horrible case of food poisoning a few days ago and were just recovering - this was actually the first post-food poisoning meal we could have and I was still feeling a touch nauseous so I wasn't able to eat a much as I normally do, which I felt super badly about (so sorry, chefs!). However, they were very kind about it and made smaller sushi bites for me (as you can see in photos). This just means we will NEED to come back next time we are in Tokyo!
Hugo K — Google review
I’m aware that there are better and more expensive omakase places, but I really enjoy the whole experience here. I like the diversity of the sushi they have here, and the tuna and yam was interesting. The owner is really attentive and friendly. We came as a group of 3, when I said I would like no wasabi and one of my friends said he wanted less wasabi, the chef immediately made it accordingly. The overall experience is great, and it’s definitely a must try if you like omakase. Reservation (can be weeks in advance) is a must.

HIGASHIYA GINZA is an elegant and upscale shop that offers a modern take on traditional Japanese sweets and tableware. Their specialty lies in wagashi, which are Japanese confections made with ingredients like rice flour, pounded fruits, and red bean paste. The shop's small, spherical creations have a unique texture that dissolves on the tongue, offering unexpected combinations such as matcha and raisin or chestnuts and brandy.
We reserved a pairing menu that include five variety of japanese sweets and teas. This menu provides us to try best 5 pairings in their place.I had epic harmonies in our months which we have never tasted before.No.2 and 4 parings were special, no.2 is ginger and honey white bean paste sweets,no.4 is pumpkin and cream cheese sweets, these combinations took me a new world in a very good way.You can purchase those sweets at their store. Must reserve when you visit HIGASHIYA GINZA.

The decor was amazing and we were so impressed with the attention to detail for everything from service to design. The tea they offer were also great. We also love some of the dessert they offer. The food was not that special I. It’s say. However, it was a nice experience and we enjoyed it. Note that you are only allowed to take photos of the dishes on your table and not the atmosphere. Guess you will have to go see to enjoy it yourself. Highly recommend if you want to see some amazing decor.

HIGASHIYA in Ginza is a place where you truly feel harmony. Every detail is filled with a sense of aesthetics, from the interior to the presentation. The wagashi look like little works of art, capturing the seasons and the breath of nature. The atmosphere is calm, almost meditative, which makes it easy to savor every flavor. I loved how tradition and modernity blend here so naturally and subtly. It’s more than just a confectionery—it’s a unique experience that stays with you.

Amazing! We wanted to find a true Japanese tea experience before our departure tomorrow. Fantastic choices of matcha (I'll add other pictures shortly), tasty small bites (the citrus and persimmon ones were my favrites). Service beyond anything we have been used to, extremely informative and detailed. Plus.. the reason why I'm posting pictures of the interior is that it's so incredibly beautiful. All those furniture pieces... jaw dropping. I'm normally not posting any bathroom pictures but also that private room... amazing. 10/10. A must go and must see.
Ruud N — Google review
A hidden gem among the bustling streets of Ginza. Higashiya Ginza is a meditative experience. I felt relaxed, welcomed, nurtured and energized through the sacred art of tea. The masterful execution is evident in the distinct flavor of matcha. It wasn't as bitter as the ceremonial quality I've tasted before. The matcha is grown in Kyoto and it was subtle, smooth and refreshing. The selection of sweets was divine, each bite of wagashi paired perfectly. Attentive staff were present and not rushed. It was an elegant experience that one can only appreciate in Japan. Sorry you hipster cities but execution in Japan is on another level, the service is unmatched. If you're in the Ginza area you definitely want to stop by. Reservations are encouraged but we were able to get a table as walk-ins. There's also a gift shop to purchase a selection of teas and sweets.

Great yakiniku restaurant. They are course menu which you don't have to order but they arrange everything for you which is really good. It's varieties of beef from different parts and taste are different. They choose the good one for you so you can try different parts. The whole course took almost two hours and it's full. They have 2 rice dishes and one noodle dish at the end. Every plate are good. Good quality and well cooked. Excellent service. English communication are ok. They are good. The chef, Henry, was super nice. If you’re going to eat here, definitely get the counter seating so you can chat with the chef and watch them prepare the food. The meat was the best and we tried all the parts of the cow. The meal is a pre-set course that already comes with all the meat, soup, etc. so you don’t have to order anything. So if you’re looking for high quality meat and a great experience, I highly recommend this place.

This was an excellent place to do a Wagyu course. The ambience was great and so was the food. Every course was amazing and the Wagyu quality is top tier. They had let us choose our size for the ending donburi and we were a bit shocked at how small the large size was. You can pay extra to sit at the counter and pay another add on to get their Katsu Sando. We opted to not do so for the steep pricing and enjoyed our meal just without. Overall a bit pricy compared to other similar restaurants but still worth going!

My experience at Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara was unforgettable. The quality of the meat was truly exceptional, each piece cooked to perfection with an incredible depth of flavor. However, the portions were very generous, we found the amount of food to be almost overwhelming. By the end of the meal, I felt uncomfortably full. While the food is delicious, be prepared for a substantial feast!

Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara offers a truly memorable dining experience. The food is absolutely delicious, with each dish thoughtfully presented in a well-balanced order that enhances the overall flow of the meal. The course is well-paced—not too long, and just right to enjoy everything without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The staff are attentive, professional, and provide excellent service throughout. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy premium yakiniku in Tokyo.

I had an amazing omakase at Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara! I loved the umami flavors of the beef tounge and offal (aorta and stomach) but the winner for me was the sirloin and upper bole - just melting in your mouth. I payed extra to sit at the counter to be up close with the action and it was worth it - the chef is really friendly and speaks English very good. I got everything explained to me and the staff refilled my glass and changed my napkin a bunch of times without me having to think about it. A bit pricey, (34000 yen without alcohol) but if you’re looking for a genuine star course yakiniku omakase in Tokyo, you should be prepared to pay that little extra. Oh - and the dessert - chefs home made pistachio ice cream was a surprising delight!

An outstanding dining experience - highly recommend! We had the omakase set and every course was full of flavour and cooked to perfection by one of the super friendly and attentive staff members. Beef was high quality, portions were excellent and courses were paced appropriately and punctuated with salad, soup or vegetables/ pickles to refresh the palate. Lovely atmosphere, background music at an appropriate level. All round perfect evening! Highly recommend.

TGI FRIDAYS Tokyo Dome City is a popular spot, especially at night, with its bustling atmosphere and a possibility of having to wait for a table. Despite some hiccups in service like delayed orders and forgotten items, the staff were apologetic and accommodating. The restaurant's location in the vibrant Tokyo Dome area makes it an attractive dining option with American-sized portions that are perfect for those craving familiar flavors from home. It's recommended for group outings due to its ample seating capacity.

Georgia M — Google review
From the moment we were seated, Aaron set the tone for what ended up being one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. His energy was positive, welcoming, and genuine — the kind of presence that makes you feel immediately comfortable and cared for. He greeted our table promptly, with a warm smile and a clear sense that he enjoys what he does. Even in a busy restaurant environment, Aaron managed to balance attentiveness with ease; he never made us feel rushed, but also never left us waiting. Throughout our meal, Aaron’s professionalism and attentiveness stood out. He knew the menu inside and out, offering helpful suggestions that matched our preferences perfectly. It’s rare to have a server who can recommend dishes or drinks so confidently while making it feel conversational rather than scripted — but Aaron did exactly that. Every question we had, he answered with patience and knowledge, whether it was about ingredients, portion sizes, or drink pairings. You could tell he genuinely wanted us to enjoy everything we ordered. The small details were what truly elevated his service. He was proactive — refilling drinks before we even had to ask, checking in at just the right times, and making sure every item came out as expected. When our food arrived, he confirmed each order carefully, and later circled back to ensure everything tasted great. He even remembered little details we’d mentioned in passing (like one person wanting extra sauce or another asking for a specific side), and followed through without being reminded. That level of attentiveness is something you don’t see often, and it made a big impression. Beyond efficiency, Aaron brought personality to the experience. He had this perfect blend of professionalism and friendliness — cracking jokes here and there, reading the vibe of our table perfectly, and never overstepping. You could tell he was genuinely connecting with each guest rather than just “doing his job.” That kind of authentic interaction makes the whole meal feel personal and memorable. It’s also worth mentioning how well he handled the busy environment. Even as the restaurant filled up, Aaron maintained composure and consistency. He never seemed flustered, never forgot an order, and maintained the same level of care from start to finish. His timing was on point — appetizers, entrées, and dessert all came out at a perfect pace, and he coordinated everything seamlessly. By the end of the meal, every single person at our table commented on how great he was. You could tell Aaron genuinely takes pride in giving guests a great experience. It wasn’t just about bringing food and drinks; it was about creating a positive, comfortable, and enjoyable atmosphere. We left TGIF not just satisfied with the meal, but genuinely impressed by his level of service. In short, Aaron exemplifies everything you’d hope to experience in a great server — knowledgeable, personable, attentive, and sincerely dedicated to making guests feel valued. He represents the TGIF brand exceptionally well, and I’d absolutely come back (and recommend this location) specifically because of the outstanding service he provided. If there’s a way to recognize or reward standout employees, Aaron definitely deserves it. His service turned a simple meal into a memorable one — and that’s the mark of true hospitality.

Udon noodle restaurant
Godaime Hanayama Udon Ginza is a traditional-inspired space that offers wide Himokawa udon noodles, served in soups and with tempura. The main branch of Hanayama Udon is situated in Gunma Prefecture, and their Tokyo branch opened in 2017 after winning Japan's biggest Udon Competition three times consecutively. Their specialty dish, Onihimokawa Udon, is uniquely flat and wide-shaped with exceptional taste.
Found this spot off of social media! The thickest of noods! Personally ordered: deep fried shrimp with mitsuba (450 yen, ~$3 USD) tempura assortment udon set 1950 yen, ~$13 USD) a few beers Huge fan of the texture of the noodles. The tempura was fried well too. Although there might be a line...it moves relatively quickly. Total ended up being $22.72. You pay as you leave and they are super efficient splitting up the bill in the end.

Here’s a natural English translation of your review-style text: ⸻ The restaurant’s location was quite good, and I liked that the reservation system worked via QR code. We were able to shop elsewhere first, then scan the QR code around 10:20 a.m.—before the 11 a.m. opening—and were seated around noon. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the dining area was cool and comfortable. Personally, I found the udon a bit bland, but the tempura rice bowl (tendon) was excellent. Next time, I’d definitely like to try the tendon as a standalone dish. Overall, the staff were friendly, and the cozy, relaxed vibe of the place was a real highlight.

I think the feature of this restaurant is the thick noodles you dip into sauces and enjoy. We grabbed a ticket early and wait 2.5 hours which was okay. We got to shop and walk around Ginza while waiting and there's lots to do in the area. An email is sent before you're up so there is some allowance. My noodles were good and extra size up is free. I had sesame sauce (??) and soy/wasabi/green onion. My set came with chirashi which was as quite good. The tempura is also very well prepared.
Charles C — Google review
We were in the area and decided to stop by this place around 2:30 p.m.. There was a small queue, so we lined up, and about 15 minutes later, we were lucky — the hostess told us they had just enough noodles left for us as the last customers! There were still a few people waiting behind us, so we definitely avoided the long wait many other reviewers mentioned. We ordered two lunch sets for two people and a kid, and the flat noodles were incredibly smooth with a great chewy texture. I found that you can really appreciate the flavor of the noodles when eaten cold and dipped in the sauce, though I personally prefer them in the hot broth. The lunch set also included tempura with rice, making it a very filling and satisfying meal. Overall, we were really glad we stopped by — great experience and perfect timing!

After waiting for this moment!! We now know the trick to get it is…come to que up at 9:20-9:30 then you will be the first group to get the waiting ticket at the machine at 10:00am!! Then u stroll around wait for 1 hours then yes!! You are the first group to taste this. What I can say is worth the wait!!! From the bottom of non-Udon eater - i love it so much and I bet those who love Udon will feel u found ur soul 😇 Beware at 11:03 the lunch waiting ticket is sold out!!! So u have to wait another day We try both hot and cold udon set and both of them are good. But if u r not Udon eater i recommend hot set

Ordered Ginza set for dinner, had both cold and hot udon and both were amazing, chewy and hearty, best I ever had. The cold one definitely is the best with idk how to describe this texture but I was very sad when I finished it. I didn’t see much review on their tempura but it was also really great! I’d recommend tempura to have with udon when u r here. We reached at 535pm, waited abt an hr to get in, our queue number was 21. They closed the queue at 620pm which was super early so please be mindful of the time.

Get here before opening—you won’t regret it! At Godaime Hanayama Udon Ginza, you can take a queue ticket before the restaurant opens and receive an alert to return when it’s nearly your turn. I arrived 30 minutes early and still waited 3 hours to be seated—was it worth it? Absolutely. This was the best udon I’ve ever had. We ordered the Ginza Set, which included cold Oni-Himokawa with soy dipping sauce, hot udon in a broth-based soup, and a perfectly fried tempura platter with a variety of vegetables. We also tried the Oni-Set, featuring hot Oni-Himokawa with Mugibuta pork in broth. My favorite was the cold Oni-Himokawa—the wide, flat noodles had an incredible texture and satisfying bounce. English menus with photos made ordering easy, the seating was spacious and comfortable, and the service was attentive and pleasant. Overall, an outstanding dining experience—truly worth the wait for unforgettable udon.

This must have been my 5th times dining here, not sure why I have yet to write a review until now. Come around 930am and get in line if you want to eat first round. I came today at 950am and I was #22 on the ticket system. I strolled around Ginza for 57mins before my turn was called, which is pretty efficient for them (I have waited 2+hrs on the ticket system before being #61). They will put up a sign out front when the noodles are sold out for the day. Wonderful meal and quick service. You cant go wrong with any of their options!

Denny's is a popular American diner-style restaurant chain known for its 24-hour service and classic comfort food. With locations across the United States, Denny's offers a casual dining experience with a menu featuring breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. The restaurant is particularly well-known for its breakfast items such as pancakes, omelets, and hearty Grand Slam meals. Additionally, Denny's also serves burgers, sandwiches, salads, and other traditional American fare throughout the day.
Conveniently located near the Akihabara train station, this restaurant is on the second floor. It wasn’t too crowded on a Sunday evening and we were able to get a table quickly. You do have to wait for them to assign you a table though. The menu options are hefty, this isn’t your typical North American Denny’s. You then order through the tablet that’s on the table and there’s an English option too which is convenient. Food is then delivered to you and if you pick the ‘drink all you can’ option, just head over to the drink bar. Service wasn’t too fast/slow, it was just right. The food we got (omurice, hamburger steak and spaghetti) all tasted great. We didn’t feel rushed to finish our meal so that was nice. The only thing amiss was when paying, the credit card machine was broken so we had to pay in cash.

I came to eat with a party of 4 so it was me and 3 friends of mine. We were able to get on the wait list very easily through a table at the front of the restaurant. We were very happy with that! The drink bar was also very nice and I loved this system where we are able to drink as much as we want AND to also serve our own drinks! I wish though that it was a bit easier to tell how to add that service to your order since it can be a bit confusing when it asks you to add it on every entre you put in the tablet. Just be mindful of that and you should be good!. The food was pretty good but not perfect. There are a lot more options nearby as the same prices or even cheaper if you look hard enough!

pretty cheap! as an aussie i’ve never experienced denny’s, i didn’t realise it was this fancy and had such a big menu. the pancakes had a nice subtle honey flavour but were a bit dry, potatoes weren’t too bad. i wasn’t aware drinks were free refills until i observed people around me going for refills. there wasn’t really any direction about the drink bar? but i guess it’s probably common sense for someone who has been to dennys before lol

I used to love Denny’s in the US, so we wanted to check it out in Japan. We went for breakfast on a weekday and it was seat yourself. There were plenty of open tables. You order from a tablet and it is very convenient and self explanatory. We got smaller breakfasts since we knew we would be getting lunch. I got the scrambled eggs and bacon breakfast and my husband got the grilled salmon breakfast. Total 1,386 yen (under $10 USD for 2 people was a steal to us). After ordering, food came out pretty quickly. All you can drink juice/soda/coffee/tea bar (iced coffee as well). Bathrooms were clean, service was friendly. Would go back!

We stayed near Danny’s and every night when we walked back to our hotel, we always passed Danny’s. So we had several meals here. Most days, we just dropped by for dessert, and 1 day we had our dinner there. Service was prompt, there were quite a good variety of food to order, Japanese, Western, and a good selection of dessert. Food is not bad although not top notch. They close late (11pm), so it’s a good place to drop by for late dinner or dessert.

Bakery
Takeout Restaurant
Restaurant
Bricolage Bread & Co. is a relaxed cafe and bakery located near Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, offering artisanal French bread, international snacks, and coffee. The establishment consists of a take-out bread and pastry section, a coffee counter run by Fuglen, and a cozy cafe with outdoor seating under shady sakura trees. The collaboration between a chef, baker, and coffee roaster ensures high-quality ingredients sourced directly from farmers in various regions of Japan.
An old time favorite in Roppongi. This bakery café is great for a quick carb pick-me-up or a leisurely lunch. Bricolage is quite popular so the bakery items are variable depending on demand - it's recommended to go before lunch for the best selection. This latest visit was for lunch – everything is extremely fresh and I would highly recommend the salad, fried chicken and shredded carrots. I’ve also had the Wagyu cheeseburger in the past and it was scrumptious. For my fellow travelers – if you are planning to dine-in, go to the counter to the left of the column to order food and drinks. they will hand you an electronic beeper and then you go into the next room to pick up your food when ready. You also wait for your coffee drinks in front of the coffee bar. The register to the right of the column is for to-go bakery items.

We queued for about 50 minutes, so naturally, I was expecting the food to be mind-blowingly good—something truly worth the wait. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The overall experience felt a bit average, like something you could easily get at other Western-style cafés. Their signature dishes were decent, but nothing particularly amazing or memorable. The chicken karaage, however, was a standout—crispy, juicy, and flavorful—definitely something the Japanese do exceptionally well. The cacao drink was a bit too sour for my taste, and the dark rum coffee had only a very mild coffee flavor, which was underwhelming. The pudding is also average, and the brown sugar tastes a bit bitter... In summary, it’s a nice café, but only if there’s little to no queue. Otherwise, it feels like a bit of a letdown and not really worth such a long wait.
Ian L — Google review
This place is a bit confusing. It's hard to order pastries and then sit down and eat them. The ordering counter for meals (burgers, sandwiches) is at a different place than the ordering counter for pastries, but we wanted to eat pastries in the restaurant. It feels like decisions need to be made very quickly and there's little explanation of how that should happen properly. It's almost just 2 shops in the same building, where the pastry counter has no menu and you just have to take pictures of what's available if you need time to think. I think we waited about a half hour to order (which was reasonable). The pastries were pretty good/okay. I don't think there's enough butter in all of Japan to actually rival French pastries, so that should not be your bar if you're going here. We tried several different pastries and the best were the financiers and the sausage dog imo. That said, the cafe latte and the brown sugar dessert option were freaking phenomenal. I would definitely go back for those, but not really anything else. The burger was juicy, but mostly drowned in ketchup and too sweet.

May 2025: Visiting from the United States and stayed at the Grand Hyatt nearby. Workers are very friendly. Found this bakery that had amazing coffee and baked goods nearby. Coffee was fabulous with wonderful tasting notes 🎶. I normally add oat milk instead of cream. The restaurant had oat milk as an upgradeable option.👍 My favorite baked goods were the bread 🍞 and the raisin roll. Also tried the avocado 🥑 toast. Stayed at the hotel for six nights and this place was my go-to for coffee and breakfast. Probably stopped by for coffee, pastries and/or bread six different times. On the last day of my vacation, I tried a "pain perdu" which was so delicious. Reminds me of a french toast... And I looked up the name and it's literally french toast 😀. Aside from the delicious bread, this is my new favorite! Will definitely come back again when I am in Tokyo again!

One of the most popular bakery shop in the area, lots of people were queuing pf a seat. For take out, no need to wait. I waited for 20mins for a seat, then ordered. This is my third time here, every menu was delicious, especially the bakery. Coffee is ok. Salad and bread are the best
Chan T — Google review
Came on a Saturday morning around 11:00 am. There was already a line and the staff said it would be around a 20 minute wait for a party of 2. It ended up taking closer to 30. You order from the register and there’s separate ones for the bakery side and food. We ordered the jerk chicken bagel and the eggs Benedict toast. The toast was delicious, and the bagel was also solid. A little pricey but it’s a nice ambiance and good location if you’re around Roppongi hills. Also got a sourdough to go, which was delicious.

The service attitude is bad: the ordering flow was so strange, you have to walk against the flow to check the pastry section after taking the number in another entry. After waiting a while to get a table, I have to walk back to make the order AND the clerk asked me serval times if I have a seat to dine in. I showed her my number ticket and told her I already have one table, then she seemed not believing me and asked me to point out where exactly my seat was. I was traveling solo, how can I put my purse in the outside table and walk back inside to make the order?! Of course I have to carry my purse around, and that does not mean that I don’t have a seat, especially I already told her many times that I already have one seat! Back to the croissant: just average. Crispy but not airy. The dark rum latte is good.

Bikkuri Donkey-Food Court is a unique find in the food court, offering a similar experience to its standalone restaurants with a slightly varied menu. The service is efficient, and they provide beepers to notify you when your order is ready. With ample seating available on weekdays, it's convenient for dine-in or takeout. The atmosphere adds to the dining experience, making it an enjoyable option when in the area.
I was happy to find this since I’ve never seen this restaurant in a food court. It was pretty much the same as going to the actual restaurant but the menu varies a little. Unagi restaurant
Nodaya is a renowned restaurant that has been serving delectable eel dishes since 1868. It is known for its specialization in various types and preparations of eel, with at least six top-tier domestic eel brands available along with seasonal catches. The restaurant's cooking process involves the 'Manben Kaeshi' method, ensuring even cooking and resulting in fluffy meat and aromatic skin.
Best unagi I’ve ever had so far! We booked table seat but got seated at counter which turned out to be an eye opening experience! Never thought we’d eat unagi so fresh! We ordered two types between the two of us - the signature きょうすい and seasonal 葵. The seasonal 葵 is so creamy and soft and it’s my preferred one between the two! The price is on the higher end for unagi restaurant in Tokyo (normally around JPY5k) but this place starts from JPY7-8k. You can choose your rice portion free of charge and I was happy with my small rice portion (about 200g of rice). I’d recommend this place for the experience.

Surprised that there weren't more people waiting for lunch. Reservations were advertised as being necessary but the restaurant was only about 60% occupied when I dined for lunch at opening. The eel was superb. The only place I've had better eel was in Nagoya. Not a cheap meal though
Kevin D — Google review
The best Unagi I’ve ever have in my life. No other store can beat this place. It seems to be out of nowhere but they are very specialized in Unagi. I’ve never been to any Unagi store that has a selection of Unagi from each region in Japan as separated menu. However, they required us to wait for the food for at least 40 mins. So, don’t plan to visit on the day you fly back like I do (So intense to catch my flight 🫠) We ordered same menu but with Unagi from different origins. One called Mirai Juu from Shizuoka which was available only for certain season and the other one from Miyazaki. They were really different. One from Shizuoka living in the stream from Fuji Mt. are way more fluffy and fatty despite the crispiness on the outside while one from Miyazaki is leaner but still super tasty. If you looking for Unagi specialty store, Nodaya is the place! Don’t miss.

I recommend visiting here when you experience the special way to eat japanese eel. Nodaya is a famous restaurant which has long history to cook eel traditionally. After you choose your dish, you can check which eel is yours by employee and owner come to you to explain where eel is from and the size of eel. But I think it is expensive and you have to wait for 30minutes after ordering yours so you need enough time to stay there. I recommend making a reservation. It is closed to both tokyo metro station and JR line. After or before visiting Sky tree, eat eel. Have a nice trip!

Guests can enjoy the star attraction, Kuroge Wagyu beef, prepared at their table in a sukiyaki hotpot with endless top-ups of beef and vegetables. The best sukiyaki I've had in Tokyo, thank you to the staff for the great service! A very nice dinner! The wagyu beef is really delicious, I will eat it next time I go to Tokyo! The service, price and ingredients are all in line! They also gave gifts to the children.

Imahan is a popular spot for sukiyaki, and I recommend making a reservation in advance. The restaurant has a beautiful traditional Japanese atmosphere. The set menu is on the pricey side, but the quality of the meat is excellent, and the staff are very polite. That said, considering the overall cost and experience, it’s probably not a place I’d return to.

We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant, which we had hoped would be one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo. We made a reservation in advance and paid ¥17,600 (¥19,360 including tax) for the Top Quality Beef Sukiyaki Tsuki Course for two. This was quite expensive for us, but we were willing to pay for what we expected to be an exceptional dining experience with top-tier ingredients and service. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the opposite. We were left alone in a private room for long periods and had to wait excessively for our food. The appetizer course went smoothly. However, despite clearly stating in our reservation that my husband has food allergies—including an allergy to otoro (fatty tuna)—we were still served a dish with about four pieces of red fish. I had to eat it in his place. (If you have food allergies, I strongly advise double-checking with the staff before dining here.) Later, the staff brought in raw beef and then left the room. The meat and a bowl of cracked raw egg were left on the table for over 10 minutes. No one returned until I pressed the call button to say we were ready. Only then did someone come in to start cooking. After finishing the sukiyaki, the staff told us they would return to prepare fried rice with the remaining egg. Instead, we were left again—with empty dishes, leftover egg, and a hot pan—for over 40 minutes. I even asked a staff member to refill our water (since there was no water jug in the room), but we were simply left there waiting. Eventually, we felt we could not waste any more time and decided to leave. We did not get to complete the full course, and the level of service we received was nowhere near worth the nearly ¥40,000 we spent. Although the staff offered to serve dessert at the end, it did little to make up for what was, unfortunately, the worst dining experience we’ve ever had.
Ratsada S — Google review
Came to enjoy sukiyaki with co-workers. Everything was amazing. From the traditional service to the amazing food. The beef just melted in my mouth and the coating of raw egg made it velvety and creamy. The veggies, which were picked during to being in season, was a great pairing to the meat. The last course of rice with lightly cooked eggs was elevated when the waitress told us to pour the remaining raw egg into the rice. I could have eaten at least 2 more bowls of rice!
Wook K — Google review
Very good service and nice traditional vibe. We ordered the ¥5000 lunch sukiyaki and ¥2700 kids version. We sit in a private room and a lady with kimono cooked for us for the entire time. The food was tasty and the portion is big. We were so full and satisfied for the experience. Highly recommended and I’ll come back next time.

I’m a sucker for 壽喜燒 I’m also a sucker for old school nostalgia This was: Top quality beef Top service Top tier sukiyaki Although the pricing was not too friendly (I ordered two additional prices, 2 for 8500 yens), I knew it was somewhere special and I needed to fulfill that hunger with additional meat. But trust me, 3 pieces is very enough, with three different dishes of accompanying food (lettuce, noodles, veggies, tofu). The rice…made the mistake of ordering additional bowls of rice. Overall highly recommend if you don’t mind the price. Otherwise just a very exquisite experience.

The restaurant building and interiors are a bit worn and dated. It's a pricey ($150+/pp) course menu restaurant. The food is amazing. The presentation is very good. With a comprehensive study of Japanese cuisine and culture, Calvert incorporates top-quality Japanese ingredients into his dishes using French cooking techniques.
Our visit to this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. The culinary experience was truly outstanding – every dish was perfectly prepared, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. The service was impeccable, with the staff showing genuine attentiveness and care throughout the evening. One of the highlights was the wine presentation by the sommelier, delivered with the utmost professionalism and expertise. Each pairing was thoughtfully explained, enhancing our appreciation for both the food and the wine. We booked a private dining room (additional €500), which offered a direct view into the kitchen – a unique touch that allowed us to witness the artistry behind each plate. To our delight, the head chef personally introduced himself at the start of the evening, making the experience feel even more special. We left with nothing but positive impressions and heartfelt admiration for the entire team. This is a place we wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking a top-tier dining experience. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Went there May 2025 on another girls’ trip to Japan. Top notch service, and awesome food! Starting off with the cucumber flowers to enlighten your taste buds, very refreshing! My favourite is the eggplant dish, the presentation and taste were both exciting! Never had I seen eggplants giving out that much steam, and they also reminded me of Bomb Flowers from Zelda. Outstanding food with professional and engaging staff who quietly made it a memorable occasion. Loved the nod to Japan with the unique bread recipe which added an extra crunch (à la rice crackers); and provided an invaluable accompaniment to the wonderful sauces.

Cost at the last photo- ¥40000+ surcharge forgot to take photo of wines. Top 10 restaurants in worldwide. I have to say the overall tasting is quite disappointing. Nothing really makes me to remember of the night. Except the 2 veg dishes…. Tomato and the eggplant, not really positive way. Especially the last course, 2 way to cook duck. Duck breast is good, but nothing special. The duck soup is really disgusting, it’s full of the flavor of duck skin (gamey). I believe all the chef aims to get rid of this bad taste of the duck. It just like you are having the raw duck butt….. Complaint this to the waiter, but no response from the kitchen. They had great service and the sommelier is very professional and friendly!

Best restaurant in Japan, service was impeccable; slightly disappointed with the loss of duck dish! My fiancé who does not eat seafood was able to enjoy the variety of them (might have converted him)! Do yourselves a favour - get a tin of the delicious cookies!

Probably overall the best fine dining experience we’ve had in the past 3 months. The aged Comté cheese amuse-bouche started this summer journey with a bold, masculin taste. Among all (from the summer tasting menu on July 10 2025), the most impressive one would be the tomato basil tarte, which is visually artistic and technically very well made: each of the multi-layers of the tarte has its own taste however does not cause any conflicts. The pan-seared white fish was cooked to perfect, which could be the role model of any kinds of fish cuisine at a fining European restaurant: crispy on the skin while juicy and tender inside. The “deconstructed” and “reconstructed” mango topped with Chantilly cream was a really wow. It’s light, refreshing yet intense and fruity, with the topical mango taste. For a “mushiatsui” hot summer day, nothing would be more suitable than this for a after-lunch dessert! The only course confused us was the melon underneath the oyster, which is a little bit too sweet, but not sour enough. Any citrus fruits instead maybe? Overall a bravo!

Kaiseki restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Imai is a renowned restaurant known for its traditional Japanese cuisine prepared by expert chefs. The establishment offers a variety of seating options, including table seating, tatami seating, and private rooms to cater to different preferences. One of the must-try dishes is the Unaju Special, which is meticulously crafted using traditional methods and features fresh domestic unagi carefully selected from various regions in Japan.
Great Japanese experience! The food kept coming and was delicious. Food was fresh and tasted amazing. Got to try a lot of different dishes including eel and blowfish.

When I arrived at the restaurant I found on the table a disgusting salad with disgusting squid, I ate it because I thought it was free. At the end the waitress asked me to pay 800 yen for the salad that I did not order. This is a scandal, it has never happened in my life to pay for something that I did not order. There are also 300 yen for the service, which is normal though.

Food was excellent. We speak no Japanese and there are no english menus, but that wasn't a problem at all, the lovely waitress had great english and with the help of google translate we had a great feed of sashimi (great), crab cakes (awesome), chicken wings (even better), and some sort of scallop/abalone thing that was great. The beers came out ice cold and the whisky selection is solid. We were the only non-japanese there but felt right at home, the kids loved everything.

I rarely write reviews, and I hate to post a negative one near where I live. But here we go: 1. No menu, or guidance regarding what is available for lunch. Lunch menu is apparently posted on the wall above the kitchen out of sight of where we are sitting. 2. After 15 to 20 mins, my 3 year old daughter is acting up— tired and hungry. Crying but not at all having a meltdown. We are asked to leave since we are disturbing other guests. (Note: aside from my daughters friends there are perhaps 2 other people who don’t seem to bothered at all, but whatever) 3. Since we had already ordered we ask for our food to go- which they hurriedly prepared. Only to find it was incomplete, and missing key ingredients. Paid full price for incomplete meal. 3 year old kicked out for being a little fussy with her friends(again not a meltdown). And overall a very hostile environment towards families with small kids.

(Translated by Google) This is a Japanese restaurant located in Kuramae, Taito Ward, across from Kuramae Elementary School. The first floor seemed to have table seats and a small raised area, and the second floor seemed to have a tatami room. This time I was guided to a small area. The meal is a chanko nabe course, which includes a small side dish, assorted sashimi, chanko nabe, fish teriyaki, grilled beef salad, a final meal, and dessert. For drinks, we were able to enjoy draft beer, pufferfish fin sake, and cold sake. The store staff also had a family-like feel, and I was able to spend a fun time there. Thank you for the meal! (Translated by Google) Used by 3 people during lunch. Even though there were only 3 of us, they let us into a tatami room for 6 people. There were two female staff members who were very nice. I wanted to eat eel and was debating whether to have it in a bowl or in a bowl, but the waiter told me that since it was Wednesday, the eel bowl lunch was 1,700 yen, so I ordered the bowl. I ordered a medium bottle of beer (750 yen) and waited for it to arrive. Beer is expensive!! The eel was a little less fatty and smaller, but it looked like it was domestically produced. Unfortunately, I don't feel the sense of fulfillment or satisfaction that I ate eel. The eel was half-cooked and had a lot of sauce on top of the rice, making up for the unsatisfying feeling of having a half-cooked eel. thank you. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing, and there was a large hall on the second floor with private rooms, so it was more of a restaurant for dinner than for everyday use. Apparently smoking is not allowed. There are no ashtrays in the store either. I guess it can't be helped since the meeting is at an elementary school. Yakiniku restaurant
Fine dining restaurant
Korean barbecue restaurant
Located in Akihabara, Tokyo, the All-you-can-eat Japanese beef hall Akihabara Meat shop Yokocho offers a top-notch dining experience. The restaurant provides a wide selection of high-quality meats that are grilled at your table. In addition to the delicious meats, there is also an array of side dishes available for ordering through a provided tablet. The staff is accommodating and welcoming, ensuring that guests have an enjoyable and satisfying meal.
The quality of the meat is really good, especially the kobe one. The staff is friendly, we did ask to replace the scissor since the one we got wasn’t so sharp. The staff did bring us 2 scissors and check the ones that are in good shape. The restaurant way of ordering is quite simple, even if you don’t know Japanese, you can just tell number in English too. The restaurant would give you a set of meat (small portion) to let you taste first. Then later, you can go order whichever one you want. Then you can pick whether to have salt or soy sauce as seasoning. Non-alcohol drink is already included on the price. If you want alcohol, it increases just 1000 yen. The restaurant was full on the day I visited so I recommend to do online booking to ensure you don’t need to wait
Hoong S — Google review
Second time back experiencing this place both from a booth and bar seating. Reservation is required for this restaurant. We enjoy the quality of meat and variety of side dishes you can get. Recommend sides are the stone grilled garlic rice, Korean veggies, garlic, lettuce, potato salad. Wagyu is amazing but the cuts is per liking. You have to order a few to find the one for you. While people say there a wait, true, shouldn’t the guests know what they want. It’s a two way concept. So I think this isn’t a mark to issue about. Services are always on top. Having dishes removed and fast sides being serviced. Slower if it’s a full house but that should be obvious. Grill grate can be exchanged as needed/wanted. There also bibs to cover your shirt and wet towels.

Came here after seeing it raved about on TikTok, but left feeling it was more hype than substance. I went at 5:30 PM on a weekday and there was already a queue. Luckily, I was given a counter seat and skipped ahead as I’ve made a reservation. Hence, Reservations are highly recommended. The meal starts with a compulsory platter, served to everyone regardless of preference. Side dishes and drinks are ordered via QR code. You get 90 minutes to dine, with last orders taken about 15 minutes before the end—fair, but the overall experience felt rushed. A major downside was the meat queue. Only one staff member was serving, and each time there were about 4–5 people waiting. This really ate into the dining time—unless you take a huge plate in one go and eat fast, you’ll spend quite a considerable amount of time queuing if its peak dining period. I chose the regular wagyu set, and honestly, the meat quality was just average. Some cuts were unexpectedly tough, and even the more tender ones didn’t have that signature wagyu melt-in-your-mouth texture. The Kobe cuts also didn’t look particularly premium in terms of marbling as compared to the regular wagyu. The available cuts change depending on the timing. Chuck was available during my first round, but was replaced by a different cut when I went back later. That said, service was great. The staff were attentive and helpful throughout. Overall, it's an okay experience with a fun atmosphere and free-flow drinks/alcohol (depending on your set), but food-wise, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. Worth trying once, but not something I’d rush back to.

Great spot in Akihabara if you’re craving yakiniku with an all-you-can-eat option. The beef quality is solid, with plenty of cuts to choose from, and grilling it yourself makes it fun. The vibe is lively but it can get smoky and crowded during peak times. Overall, good value and a satisfying experience for meat lovers.
DJ D — Google review
Phenomenal AYCE located close to the subway. Very reasonable prices and I opted for the wagyu option. Meat was absolutely amazing, side dishes were also phenomenal although I’d suggest saving all your appetite for the different cuts. Highly recommended!

I know this restaurant from Youtube, and it's quite busy, I suggest to make online reservations beforehand. There's different parts of beef available and they are limitless. It's just ¥7300 per person (including soft drinks / iced tea). The staffs are nice, they will let you know how to order the food via web site, free WiFi of course. The restaurant is just literally next to the Akihabara Station and it was 3 minutes walk to Bic Camera and Yodobashi. I went to Bic Camera for a walk after having the dinner. 🤣

Azabudai Hills, a newly completed landmark in the heart of Tokyo, is a visionary project by Mori Building that integrates offices, residences, medical facilities, commercial spaces, and an international school. The complex includes the towering Residence B and Residence A which blend lush greenery with contemporary design to create a serene urban oasis. The main building, Mori JP Tower, offers an observation floor on its 33rd level where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Tokyo cityscape for free.
This is a very nice shopping area with many different luxury shops as well as nice markets, cafes, and restaurants. There is also the teamlab museum (get tickets early/in advance!), a Starbucks, and lots of areas to sit and relax. They also seemed to be showing outdoor movies and likely have many other activities throughout the summer. Definitely worth checking out and exploring or going for lunch or coffee.

Interesting development in Minato. The architecture creates a more walkable, neighborhood like experience. High end shops, and many cafes and restaurants. The market is quite good, with a great selection of fresh foods, and restaurants and pop up experiences. Definitely recommended for an afternoon stroll.

Very lovely area to have a walk and hang out. There are all booths that sells soft cream. Malls with delectable chocolate shop. Also if you do visit the area, don’t forget to check out the sky cafe and bar at the tower to check out the beautiful city view of Tokyo and get a glimpse of Mount Fuji in the distance. And a really good view of Tokyo Tower just beside. Sunset time will get you the gorgeous breathtaking sky view!

Polished and architecturally impressive, but it’s still finding its buzz. The buildings and gardens are beautiful, and the whole thing is impeccably designed, but it felt a little too calm for a place that’s meant to be a new cultural hub. Worth a look, but I’ll be curious to see how it settles into itself over time.

Soba noodle shop
Nestled in a serene corner of Harajuku, Tamawarai is a renowned one-Michelin-starred soba restaurant celebrated for its distinctive 85:15 ratio noodles made from 85% buckwheat and 15% wheat flour. The menu features soba sets served hot or cold with delectable tempura and seafood, known for their light and crispy texture. A popular choice is the chilled soba topped with house-made tofu and bonito flakes.
Perfect portion, amazing noodles, a must-visit for soba lovers I recently had the pleasure of dining at a soba restaurant that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves soba noodles. The portions were perfect for one person, the noodles were cooked to perfection, and the broth was flavorful and delicious. The restaurant has both hot and cold. I tried the cold soba with tofu and it was amazing. The noodles were thin and delicate, but they had a great bite to them. The service at the restaurant was also excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they were happy to answer any questions I had about the menu. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at this soba restaurant. The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great soba dining experience.

Long wait, average around 2-3 hours even if you show up before opening. Most items will sell out by then if you are not the absolute first to get in (mind you there are 6 people hidden inside the little waiting room on the side). Soba was good, nice if you are a regular or have a reservation and get seated immediately but absolutely not worth the wait nor horrible reception. To each their own, read the other reviews and try at your own risk (and if you have a ton of time to waste)
Eddie K — Google review
You need to make a reservation here. The portions are pretty small but the noodles themselves are quite good. I also got the shrimp, baked miso, and omelette. Unless one of the shrimp was sacrificed for my dish of two shrimp, it’s just a lie . The shrimp was grilled and pretty good. The omlette had some really fresh daikon on the side that I liked and was fluffy. The baked miso was an interesting experience. Lots of umami and has this like pancake texture. Overall I was quite hyped to get a seat here but I don’t think it was worth the effort. I’m still looking for a more wasabi based soba.
Victor D — Google review
Arrived 11:08am and only got served the soba at 1:45pm... That's almost a 3 hour wait... So be careful. If you arrive earlier you may be able to wait in the aircon waiting room... Love the grilled miso! The omolett was soft and fluffy. Tofu was yummy too. Don't get grilled seaweed it's normal. Soba had bite.
Musho P — Google review
I'm struggling here with a review a little bit, because I have never been to such a unique place so far. The building has no signs whatsoever, so we had some problems finding it. Then, we were told we could order only some one particular set, but it was ok for us, we didn't mind. As for the dishes, they were pretty weird (like sobagaki) and not exactly to my taste (a little too bland), but I am always happy to try something new and original. I do not regret going, but it's not a place that I would recommend everyone to visit. It's just very eccentric. I loved the fried soy sauce though, would never expect to eat soy sauce in such a form.
Dorota A — Google review
I did not find this place to be foreigner-friendly. I arrived as a walk-up. The hostess first told me there were no tables available that night. I asked whether they had availability later that week, and they said no. I began to leave - I just figured they were busy and I got unlucky with my timing. Then, they caught me before I left. They said they did, in fact, have a table available that night - but the dinner would cost me 900k yen. (I'm not kidding - I got them to write the number down to confirm it wasn't my Japanese being faulty.) It looks like other foreigners have successfully gotten in - but based off other's comments, there is an overall animus towards non-nationals. Ew.
King X — Google review
Food was an experience. Must try: baked prawns, cold (or hot) soba + natto + raw egg. Too bad the tempura wasn’t available. Waiting time was ridiculous, though. We got there at 10:45 am, we got seated around 1 pm. The whole meal took about an hour and only because the service was so slow. Portions were on the smaller side but appropriate. It was kind of hard to pick out the taste of the soba because of all the toppings but it was good. Ambience was very uniquely Japanese in that it made you feel like you’re dining alone because of the interiors of the place. If you’re okay with spending 3 or more hours for it, the food is good enough to try. Otherwise, there’s a smokehouse a few meters away that might be more worth your while.
Tristan S — Google review
We were waiting in a queue for more than two hours, which is ridiculous, as customers were leaving but lady was not taking straight away customers in. Upsetting point was today that it was already our turn to go in (we are couple), but receptionist lady took couple which was not even straight after us. They waited in line much behind. This made us honestly crazy. This is dishonest and not fare at all. We were welcomed in after 10mins or something like this. Food was nice, but poor service and this behaviour is very bad for reputation of restaurant with Michelin star. And extra comment, that by the time we were in, it was just simplest soba options available. No tempura, no herring, etc Ps: young boy and girl who served inside was very polite and nice. We appreciated

Coffee store
Koffee Mameya Kakeru is a coffee shop in Tokyo's Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, known for its wide variety of beans and dedication to showcasing the multiple possibilities of the same coffee bean being interpreted into different kinds of drinks.
This was my favorite experience in Japan. I’m not much of a coffee drinker but my wife drinks it religiously. Thought it’d be fun to do a omakase tasting menu. I WAS RIGHT. The ambiance was amazing. Staff provided me insight to how each dish/drink was made and the thought process behind it. Made me really appreciate coffee! My wife got the seasonal tasting coffee menu, and I opted for the cocktail menu. Loved the setup and would recommend this omakase experience to anyone.
Ricky L — Google review
Reservation only. Been wanting to come here for awhile. Unfortunately, it rained on the day we went which made it difficult, but was well worth it. We got there early, but they didn’t seat us until our time. Waiting area has no seating. I would expect a place of this caliber to have something for you to do while you wait. Each reservation gets a dedicated server/barista so your mileage will vary. Ours was great. She made it so fun and enjoyable. Her English was good for us to enjoy the time together. A couple others joined in when we had something fun to share. They all wear lab coats that make it seem very polished and serious, but they are all friendly people. You can order individual cups of coffee of which they have a wide range of beans prepared as a pour over. Much like their other location in Ometesando. The highlight here though is their course menu. They have three. One seasonal coffee, one classic coffee, and one cocktail menu. We got their seasonal and it did not disappoint. It’s pricey, so if you’re looking for value, it’s not the place. If you’re looking for an experience, it’s a great way to spend a few hours. Awesome place to take a date who likes coffee. I love coffee, so I ordered their most expensive bean as an additional order and they were shocked. They don’t sell a lot of it because it’s about $40 a cup. Only one of the baristas were allowed to do the pour so it was fun going through the whole experience. The coffee was also great, though I probably wouldn’t be drinking it on the regular. Awesome time, and thankful for the wonderful staff who made it a great experience.

Absolutely unique and incredible way to experience coffee. Delicious. Our barista/scientist was knowledgeable and kind, and made the best cups of coffee I've ever had. The food pairings for the omakase were also unique and delicious.
Johnny A — Google review
This is not your normal coffee shop. They call it “experience store” and it is for good reason. This is basically a coffee tasting experience where they bring about 4-5 types of making the coffee, with a pairing of a small dish to go with it. They will also explain each process well in English, along the notes and the idea behind the companion dish. Reservations are definitely needed, as they have specific timeslots that need to be adhered to.
Kenny C — Google review
Finally visited this coffee shop after having it on my "must visit" list for a while. I ordered the Seasonal Special course as recommended by Toshi, who was wonderful. He took the time to talk me through each course and made me feel at ease. He was very knowledgeable and I appreciated his kindness. I'm hoping to come back and try the Signature course soon! Side note for visitors: Make a reservation. Many people were being turned away as they didn't have a reservation. It's a fairly simple process, even for English speakers.

This coffee tasting/omakase experiences was one of our favorite activities! My wife and I are absolute coffee addic--lovers I mean, and getting to do a fancy coffee tasting as opposed to the normal alcohol ones was such a treat. They have several sets to choose from. The barista we had was super nice and knowledgeable, telling us about every type of bean he was preparing for us, as well as about the different styles of preparation. Each drink was paired with a specific bite of food that either enhanced the drink, or the drink enhanced the food. These are just tastings by the way, so don't come here hungry and ready for an entire meal. We bought several bags of coffee as souvenirs to brew at home, of which they tell you the ideal way to grind and brew it, with directions written down and a tiny sample bag of how coarse/fine the beans should be ground. Definitely recommended if you are a coffee aficionado like us!

This coffee experience was on another level! The coffee scientists have mastered every detail, from flavor to pairings. Definitely something I’d do again when I’m back in Japan. They also have dairy free tasting course!!

Yakitori restaurant
Yakitori Imai is a stylish and refined grill restaurant in Aoyama, offering a unique take on skewered chicken. The owner and grill master, Takashi Imai, focuses on high-quality ingredients and an elegant presentation while still capturing the traditional flavors of yakitori. The cozy thirty-seat, counter-style joint serves a multi-course dinner set that includes chicken liver pate, seasonal salad, chef's selection of skewers, and grilled vegetables at a reasonable price.
Intimate yakitori place with warm and welcoming service that hugs you as soon as you step in the door. They are attentive without being obsequious and I particularly enjoyed watching the jovial interaction between the chefs, the customer facing staff (although you might say they are all customer facing in such an intimate joint with diners seated at an elongated horseshoe shaped counter watching) and some customers who I assume are regulars. We had the ¥8,800 omakase with interspersed pieces of chicken and vegetables grilled to perfection. You have to excuse my pictures which give the false impression of the amount of food as I keep forgetting to take a pic until halfway through a skewer. They explain every skewer as it's brought to you at a leisurely pace that I find particularly conducive to carrying on a conversation. If I lived in Tokyo, I could easily imagine this as one of my favourite places to catch up with mates over a few skewers and a drink or two. And speaking of drinks, in addition to sakes, they also have a small but well curated reasonably priced list of wines that you can have by the glass! Why wouldn't more restaurants do this? All I can say is shame we don't live in Tokyo.
Jon X — Google review
The atmosphere is pleasant, tidy, and contemporary, with a solid selection of wines and sakes. However, the yakitori is fairly ordinary, and sadly, given the price, it doesn’t offer great value for money.
Thuy N — Google review
Fresh, juicy, and generous chicken aside, the tomato, spaghetti squash, and the ginkgo nuts were outstanding, and I wish I could come for a vegetable only set course one day. The innards were impressive but it was the more conventional cuts of meat that showed off their mastery of the craft. I personally prefer more char and smokiness but was happy with my experience. I did find the sake caramel dessert a bit too bitter. Worth noting is the extensive list of natural wines available on top of beer and sake. And the service was seamless at every point.

Guests should make reservation. We stumbled upon this gem after a long hard day. We were thrilled our child met mandatory age limit of 12. The menu however is better suited for adult. It was an absolute education in Yakitori presentation for us with clearly the finest attention and ingredients. A tremendous amount of food (and variety) is offered in the meal. Service was impeccable. Transportation easily attained by train.

Decent yakitori with other poultry offerings like duck and quail. Offals were especially good, though some skewers were under seasoned for me. The matsukaze chicken they mainly use has a delicious more chewy texture. Very comfortable and elegant cozy space with excellent ventilation, well priced wines, good service. Must try: hatsu / heart, reba/ liver, liver mix (intestines etc), kabu, super fresh and delicate shirako Rating 3.5

Charged Customer No-Show Fee Due To Their Own Mistake! I dined at this Japanese yakitori restaurant a few years ago with friends. As I recall, the food was grilled into perfection with the right amount of seasoning. However, I will NEVER return or recommend to people I know because of an extremely unpleasant experience I have encountered. With the help of American Express (AE), I had made a dinner reservation for 4. On that day, my friends and I arrived early, we were the first group of customers that night; and if I remember correctly, we were the only non-local customers who didn’t speak Japanese. As mentioned earlier, dinner was great and we enjoyed the food. Anyhow, a few days after I returned home, American Express (AE) called me. They told me YAKITORI IMAI said I didn’t show up for dinner therefore they requested to charge for no-show penalty fee. That was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever hear as we clearly did dined at the restaurant and told the host we had a reservation and stated my name. Unfortunately, my friend paid in cash that night and throw away the receipt. The only proof I can share with AE was an instagram I posted which captured the food, the counter and one of the chef. As you might have expected, they didn’t believe us. I mean it wasn’t a big restaurant, we were the only foreigners, and we told them where we sat. I don’t believe they couldn’t go back to the billing record or even CCTV. Anyway, AE was very nice to absorbed the no-show fee but it was the restaurant FAULT!! Till this day, I am still extremely disappointed & angry with the entire ordeal. I still feel wrongfully accused & blamed!!! To those who travel to Japan often, you know a lot of restaurants don’t take foreigner reservation requests claiming there are too many no-shows. But this incident clearly shown things can go other way too.

Sougo is a Japanese restaurant that offers modern interpretations of traditional shojin (vegetarian) dishes. The menu features colorful and seasonal Japanese cuisine available as a course or a la carte. Guests have praised the smooth reservation process and professional, attentive service. The Kaiseki Lunch Course is particularly recommended, with each dish thoughtfully explained upon serving. Chef Nomura and his team provide a memorable culinary experience, offering Michelin-quality food and service.
Absolutely fantastic vegetarian restaurant. They only offer tasting menus for dinner and we chose the 7 dishes + 1 dessert option. Every dish was delicous and the portions were small but filling. The different textures in the courses and the food presentation was outstanding. At the end, they also give you a cute chopstick case and they let you keep your chopsticks and napkin. That was a really cute touch to the experience. Really fun to sit at the counter and watch them make the food.

I am NOT a Buddhist Monk, so I may be biased but I felt like I was robbed of $200 and my appetite when I visited here last night. I did the Zen course, the food was beautifully present but it had no flavor whatsoever (especially no salt). For the dessert we were offered a fruit - yes a fruit. Why would someone pay $$$ to eat a fruit for dessert which could be had for under a dollar. Very disappointed. The best things about the place were the welcoming chef, sake and presentation of the food. I feel this is way over priced as I had lunch at a Michelin star French restaurant in the afternoon the same day for half the price with mind blowing food.

11000 yen per head Quite disappointing - Taste: average yet unfortunately nothing is too impressive. The final dessert (sorbet) is basically a ball of quite big pieces of ice chuck. Chefs are rather “clumsy” which is quite rare in all the omakase I have been to. Example: they 100% spilled some soup on the kitchen table when they pour from the big one to the serving cup. They dropped certain ingredients on the kitchen table (which I believe it’s clean?!…) and picked it back up and put right into customer’s cup. The head chef kept wiping hands on his apron, grabbing menu and then touch the food directly. It’s not professional. Not quite acceptable for this price they charge

What a fantastic Shojin vegan restaurant in Tokyo. We got the 12 course vegan Shojin meal. Be warned the portions are filling with soup and rice, so come hungry! There's also a smaller menu choice. We had no issues eating it all though as the quality, flavor, creativity and playing were all 5/5. Every course was delicious highlighting a modern, fine dining experience of the traditional vegan Japanese Buddhist diet. The wine was great too. Service was lovely and hospitable. The restaurant is a little hard to find on the 3rd floor and up and elevator. A must eat experience for awesome vegan food in Tokyo.

This is a pure vegetarian, Buddhist-inspired restaurant. In the evening it is a tasting menu with the option being either 7 or 9 courses. The food is interesting and beautifully presented. However we found very little engagement from the staff and a rather dull atmosphere. Would not return.

Some of the best food during my trip in Japan. I am picky about meat, so having vegetarian options that are full of flavor was such a delight! Highly recommend the curry. Service was friendly, seating was comfortable and private. Desserts were top notch! I got the sampler which was fun to try things I wouldn't normally order.
Stella W — Google review
The restaurant has the atmosphere and feel of a high-end experience, but unfortunately is lacking in any taste whatsoever! I have had several meals in Tokyo for less than half this price point, which I would rank very high in favourite meals, perhaps ever. Unfortunately, Sougo, or at least the Buddhist menu, was bland *especially* compared to past experiences dining in actual monasteries. There was nothing extraordinary to merit this price point at all, in fact, much the opposite. All style, no substance. If you're a foodie looking for quality, I would turn your attention elsewhere.

We went to Daigo a couple of times and we were happy with the service and the food. So we decided to try this place since we heard it is connected. My experience was not so great. We had to ask and pay to get water and green tea. There was no drink service at all which is rare in Japan at this price ¥11,000/person for lunch. It looks like they are tight on budget to hire staffs and the quality of ingredients was not good. We will not go back again. Daigo is much much better place to pay the similar price for lunch.

Nice set meal Place in a bigger complex designed by Kengo Kuma . Since it is all self service and portions are small I the prices are a bit expensive ranging between 1580-2000 for a basic set. The food is good and especially the quality of rice (which is the brand’s main product). Second floor has a nice display of zakka (misc. goods). The atmosphere and space are worth the visit.

This Unagi restaurant is tucked away on a side street and you could easily miss it if you weren't paying attention. But hidden gems like these are often the most rewarding to discover. I walked through the tiny door, and was greeted by the chef that instructed me to wash my hands and sit on one of the two tables. I ordered two versions of eel with rice and wasabi. Both were fantastic and the charred version was unlike anything I've had before. I didn't really like eel before coming here. Now I consider myself an eel convert.

MAZ is the latest venture by renowned Peruvian chef Virgilio Martinez, known for his acclaimed restaurant Central in Lima. Led by chef Santiago Fernandez, this 25-seat restaurant in Tokyo offers a unique culinary experience that delves deep into Peru's diverse food culture and traditions. The seasonal tasting menu, organized by altitudes, showcases nine inventive courses that explore the country's topography and microclimates.
Food = literally the best meal of my life (and what a way to celebrate my 35th birthday, thanks to my amazing wife). Innovative as it is delicious. And you will NOT leave hungry after the 9-course journey through the landscape of Peru (with a Japanese twist). Chef Santiago Fernandez is brilliant, kind, and humble. Drinks = cocktails were very tasty and the wine list is ridiculously good. Hospitality = the best I’ve ever experienced. Attentive to your every need without feeling over-bearing. Rating = 15/10. Perfect dinner. If you have the means to try it, this is probably the best value of any 2-star Michelin restaurant in the world. A truly unforgettable experience.
Daniel B — Google review
aMAZing experience at this enigmatic restaurant in Tokyo. This is not the traditional type of Peruvian cuisine I am familiar with. There is a lot of science and arts behind the preparation of the meal. Conceptually, it is unique from all the Michelin restaurants I have tried. Some dishes wowed me, some were a little bit too strong for my palate and could have been balanced with some carbs to showcase their richness. The chef was very interactive and approachable, so were all the staff. Looking forward to the new menu. Note the noisy German group present that night, atypical from a fine dining experience in Tokyo
MD N — Google review
This restaurant is one of the most memorable I have ever visited. Despite having dined at Peruvian restaurants and other 2-Michelin star establishments before, I was still captivated by the excellent storytelling throughout the experience. The narrative included the origins of the ingredients and rich elements of South American culture, combined seamlessly with unique flavors and beautifully presented dishes. The chef began by introducing the ingredients sourced from Peru, setting the stage for our nine-course meal. Each dish was creatively named after different altitude levels, showcasing a diverse range of ingredients—from fresh seafood and highland-grown vegetables and fruits to various meats. Overall, it was a worthwhile visit, and the price was reasonable for a 2-Michelin star restaurant.
Kanjanis T — Google review
Delightful experience and fantastic food showcasing Peruvian flavours using Japanese ingredients. The concept brings you through the natural ecosystem from the depths of the seabed to heights of the Andes, using ingredients from different parts of the ecosystem. Exceptional service as well. Well worthy of the Michelin stars.
Joshua M — Google review
Maz, a two-star Michelin restaurant, offers a refined and unique foray into Peruvian-Japanese cuisine, blending visual artistry and intricate flavors into an experience that delights the senses. From the moment you step inside, the attention to detail is evident, not just in the beautifully crafted dishes, but in the overall ambiance of the restaurant. The staff’s professionalism was impeccable, and their commitment to creating a memorable experience was evident in every aspect, from the service to the thoughtful approach to plating. One of the highlights of the evening was the staff's attention to my personal needs—after noticing that I was unable to finish my dishes, they kindly offered to prepare smaller portions. This gesture, though rare in Michelin-starred restaurants, was much appreciated. Unfortunately, there was a slight oversight when they returned to offering regular portions for the next dish, which was a small inconsistency in an otherwise attentive service. However, the restaurant's accommodation of our various allergies and dietary restrictions ensured that everyone in the party was able to enjoy the experience without feeling excluded. The food itself was expertly executed, showcasing Peru’s rich culinary heritage. That said, some of the more exotic ingredients, though well-prepared, didn’t quite resonate with me personally, though this is a subjective critique rather than a flaw in the cuisine. The restaurant remains faithful to its Peruvian roots, and while I may not have been enamored with every ingredient, the dishes were undoubtedly creative and well-balanced. A quirky but thoughtful touch was the collection of visual papers offered throughout each course. While they were visually appealing, I struggled to see a clear purpose for them, and they ultimately felt like an unnecessary addition. I also couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed when my friends’ birthday was not acknowledged, especially since I noticed another table being celebrated in a similar manner. In terms of the overall experience, Maz delivers on its promise, but it doesn't necessarily go beyond expectations. The food is impressive, and the design of the restaurant is undoubtedly beautiful, but nothing stood out as truly extraordinary. It’s an excellent choice for those looking to explore Peruvian cuisine in an elevated setting, but I left feeling like the experience didn’t quite reach the "wow" factor one might expect from a two-star Michelin restaurant.

An absolute culinary experience. I didn't even know some of these flavors existed. Every bite brought me to a new place. The pairings were spectacular. I think this was the best meal of my life. If you have to chance to go while you're in Tokyo, run, don't walk.
Joanna C — Google review
Very good. Recommended for food enthusiasts — some flavors need some fine tuning but no regrets at all. A lovely experience and exciting variety.
Eliza F — Google review
If you are not Rambo and don’t pride yourself on eating things that would make a Billy goat puke, I recommend getting the vegetarian menu. Your partner’s salad looks pretty damn good when you’re staring down a bowl brimming with the reproductive juices of assorted sea-monsters. Seriously, if you’re not actually fanatical about trying strange cuisine, this is not the place to pretend you are. MAZ will call your bluff and you will lose. My only other critique is the wine pairing, which while creative was expensive for what it was. Wine snob that I am, I do prefer AOC/DOCG over mountain hootch when dining finely. The atmosphere was exceptional, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The dessert course was exceptional. Card accepted, and they are happy to split the bill by person or couple.

Tonkatsu restaurant
Tucked away on a peaceful street near Showa-dori Avenue, Hyakumangoku is a traditional sushi restaurant known for its exquisite Edo-style sushi. The owner meticulously selects fresh ingredients and uses a custom-made 'ice refrigerator' to preserve the fish's freshness and flavor. Guests can enjoy their meal at an elegant cypress counter while savoring specialty snacks that pair perfectly with the restaurant's aromatic sake varieties.
Unfortunately I only discovered this place two days before leaving Tokyo, but ended up going two days in a raw because I ate the best tonkatsu ever! The restaurant is run by a sweet elderly couple (he is 81!). I had the Rozukatsu which was perfectly crunchy on the outside and super juicy and tender on the inside. I really recommend this place as long as it’s still there (due to the age of the owners, who knows how long it will still be running. Go fast :)!!).
Andrea G — Google review
For foreigners who want to visit this place, please read my review first: 1. The 900yen set meal is only available during lunch hour. They only serve ala carte meals and side dishes at night. I spent 1500yen for tonkatsu for dinner, rice is on separate order, but I guess the meat was a better part than lunch set. The atmosphere at night is worth it, no queue, best service 2. The owners are both elderly and don't speak good English. Be ready for that, don't walk in and start speaking a ton of English and make things difficult for them. They can't understand and will answer you in Japanese anyway. 3. Pay by cash Despite the language barrier, the lady always did her best to attend to us the foreigners. They are both very helpful and kind. I had a very satisfying and delightful tonkatsu dinner here and will definitely come back with better Japanese speaking skill. Wishing them good health and well-being!!!

This place is run by an elderly couple and their manner of speaking is quite blunt but this seems like this is how they speak to everyone. They probably don’t speak English so if you don’t speak Japanese use a translation app, the menu is only Japanese with no photos but if you can’t choose the pork katsu is a safe choice. The food is good and the price is super reasonable for 900 yen. Seating is limited and fits maybe 10 people max so either reserve in advance or don’t go in a large group. The building and courtyard is nostalgic and built in the old fashioned Japanese style. It’s worth checking out if you happen to be nearby.

One of the most amazing meals of my life. This is the epitome of mom and pop, literally a married couple slinging the best tonkatsu you've had right out of their house. It was difficult to navigate the complete lack of english but that is part of what made it so great. if you want to try it you have to put in the effort to figure it out. Also while we were there a couple locals came that obviously come often. Such an amazing experience and the food, top notch.

(Translated by Google) We visited a restaurant for lunch in an alley just down the street from Kodenma Station. On this day, I visited with some people from work, and since I'm an old person, it's hard for me to eat fried foods, so I ordered a set meal of pork soup and tuna sashimi. Pork soup is great, it makes me feel more alert and eating something healthy. In addition to the main dish, this set meal includes a side dish (on this day, it was fried radish) and rice dumplings, and even the miso soup seemed to have a lot of ingredients. The tuna is not just a bonus, it's delicious, and the pork soup is full of ingredients and is more than enough to serve as a side dish! It was difficult to be careful not to pour rice into it. One of the ingredients in the pork soup that caught my eye was the potato. It wasn't very big, but it had a good amount of chunky sweet potatoes in it. The inside of the restaurant is not that big, with about 6 to 8 tables for 4 people, but I thought it was just right for a group of people. Thank you for the meal. (Translated by Google) I visited for a late lunch on a weekday. The daily specials and pork soup were appealing, but since it was my first time, I had the fried chicken set meal, which I had heard was delicious. Pickled cucumbers and a small bowl of taro were served immediately after ordering, and the fried chicken was served within 5 minutes. Maybe it was early because it was past its peak. I was impressed by how all the staff worked so hard. The fried chicken was so hot that it burned my mouth, and just as I had heard, it was crispy and juicy. It wasn't too strong or too thin, the flavor was just right, and together with the large shredded cabbage, the meal went smoothly. The miso soup was also delicious. Next time I would like to go for the daily or weekly menu. (Translated by Google) A rainy Wednesday. Since I can't use my bicycle on rainy days, I have a quick lunch near my office. On this day, I went to an izakaya in a back alley in Kodenmacho, Nihonbashi. Go through the entrance door and enter the store (^^) where the red name of the store strongly emphasizes its presence. It's an izakaya with a typical Showa atmosphere, with only table seating inside. It's full of regular customers. I was seated in a shared seat with an acrylic board. The good thing about a restaurant that is not a chain is that the customer service provided by the old lady and her older sister is family-like and heartwarming. There are three categories for lunch: daily, weekly, and fixed, and the daily and weekly menus are handwritten on the blackboard on the wall. Hmm, tonjiru plus ◯◯◯ looks like a good deal. So, I ordered a set meal of pork soup and tuna sashimi, but unfortunately it was sold out! As expected, the menu where you can choose two main dishes is very popular... So instead, I ordered the daily lunch special, ``Charcoal-grilled Shima Atka Hokke overnight dried'' (¥830). The set meal consisted of mackerel mackerel, simmered shirataki and minced meat, rice, miso soup, and pickled vegetables, and the fried egg accompanied the mackerel mackerel. Atka mackerel is a little small. Perhaps because it was fried to a crisp and left overnight, the backbone peeled off perfectly. Since it is dried fish, it has a lot of fat and is not juicy, but rather a moist white fish with a light taste. Hokke is unique in that it remains greasy even after it has been left overnight. The simmered shirataki and minced meat with the flavor of mirin is just like an otoshi at an izakaya restaurant, and is simply delicious. You'll want a beer mug from noon. The white miso-based miso soup is delicious with various toppings such as tofu and nameko. It's hard to go wrong with miso soup at an izakaya. This time we had an orthodox grilled fish set meal, but judging from the restaurant's name, I think they specialize in yakitori, so I wish they had a skewered set meal for lunch as well. Izakaya restaurant
Hantei is a classic and elegant restaurant located in an ancient building that survived historical calamities. The three-story house has been meticulously restored and serves kushiage, a traditional Japanese dish of bite-sized delicacies lightly fried on sticks. There's no menu; instead, guests are treated to a procession of delicious offerings until they've had their fill. Additionally, the restaurant offers mouthwatering kushiage and provides a unique dining experience with its superbly fair prices and friendly staff.
MAR 2024 Had the lunch course which includes two appetizers, fresh vegetable sticks and cabbage, eight kushiage (deep fried skewers), choice of white rice with miso soup or ochazuke with seaweed and kelp, and dessert. The fried coating was thin and crispy with a bit of flakiness; very tasty and light on the stomach. It is very different to the other kushiage I've had before which tends to have a thicker coating. For each skewer, the staff will recommend the condiment to use which includes miso paste, salt and sweet tare sauce. The appetizers and the ochazuke was pretty good as well. Dessert was a smooth sakura flavored pudding with a strong matcha sauce on top. Price was reasonable and I really enjoyed the kusiage, staffs were friendly, though towards the end the pacing was very slow for the ochazuke and dessert.

I would recommend this Kushiage restaurant. I had the 12 piece course and treated myself to the follow on 6 piece course. There is a good selection of Kushiage to cover everybody's tastes. Meat, fish, vegetables and cheese. Staff were warm, friendly and very helpful. I used to live in Nezu 29 years ago and would bring family and friends to this restaurant when they visited me from England. I'm on holiday now in Tokyo and thought I'd try the restaurant again to relive good memories. I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed and will visit again when I next come to Tokyo. Came here for lunch with a reservation, which I highly recommend booking. The ambiance is fantastic, as it’s in an old house that feels like you’re stepping back in time when you enter. It’s beautiful. And then there’s there food. You can get a lunch set for around 3600 yen, which includes 8 skewers, vegetables, rice, soup, and some other small dishes. Everything they served was delicious, and the beef was a stand out. You can add on any other options on their menu, which I indulged in. The shiitake and mochi were fantastic. The staff were friendly and attentive, making this an overall excellent experience.

Southern restaurant (US)
Bubba Gump Shrimp Tokyo is a restaurant inspired by the movie Forrest Gump, known for its mouth-watering Southern American style food and specialty shrimp dishes. Despite being located in Japan, it offers a taste of Louisiana with options like surf & turf, southern fried chicken, and jambalaya. While it's a theme restaurant inside an amusement park, the lively atmosphere and tasty shrimp dishes make it worth a visit.
Incredibly kind staff. I messed up my reservation on a super busy night, and they went out of their way to get my friend and I a table anyway, one with the really nice views of the fountain. That was absolutely unnecessary of them and really brought some brightness to my day. (The food tasted great, too!)

We don't have Bubba Gump Shrimp in Australia and I'm glad we don't because it means I get to visit Japan more often lol. I have been to the Osaka branch, and it was also good, so their standards are equal across the board. This time I tried the dippin' broth and I am OBSESSED! I need to return. Cocktails are fabulous also, similar to TGI Fridays but better, you get a free Bubba Gump glass too.

Shrimps, Smiles, and a Side of Nostalgia 👍 The restaurant offers a fun, movie-themed atmosphere with thoughtful decor and a playful vibe. We tried a variety of shrimp dishes, including Cajun shrimp and a sampler platter—both tasty and creative. Service was friendly and English-friendly, and while it wasn’t cheap, the overall experience was worth it for a casual, themed outing.

My brother and I were on holiday in Japan when we saw the restaurant. It was amazing and we’d happily go again if we get another chance to come back to Japan. Our server was Yoko and she was so friendly, polite and knowledgeable, she walked us through on how to order as they use a unique style with Forrest Gump themed license plates. The food was absolutely delicious and we walked away very satisfied, we each tried the cocktails and again, amazing - can not recommend Bubba Gump shrimp Tokyo enough. If you’re in the area give them a go, especially if you’re a fan of the movie, good food, friendly people and a wonderful atmosphere.

Hamburger restaurant
Fire House is a must-visit for those craving an authentic American burger experience. The generous portions and delicious flavors make every bite a juicy delight, with perfectly cooked patties nestled between fresh buns and piled high with indulgent toppings. The golden, crispy fries are downright addictive, and the American-style shakes are thick and decadent. Seating at the counter provides a fun view of the cooking action behind the scenes.
I went to Firehouse Burger in Suidobashi on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm — it was quite busy, there was a small line as it is a popular place. The kitchen was running smoothly with three cooks and a waiter, so things moved quickly despite the queue. I ordered the Mozzarella mushroom burger and I loved it ! The patty wasn’t thick, but it was well-seasoned and cooked just right. They used white mushrooms (Paris mushrooms) and they were raw (not cook and totally safe) which is very unusual in Japan. I really loved that as I used to eat these raw mushrooms when I was living in France. The bun was clearly from a proper bakery, soft and slightly toasted. For me the bread is very important and it was perfect. There wasn’t any fancy sauce, just a bit of mayo, but honestly, it worked well with the overall balance of flavors and mostly with the raw mushrooms. The fries on the side were fresh, skin-on, not too oily, and had that soft-inside-thick-cut texture I really like. You also get a small pickle relish on the side — more sour than sweet, which was a nice touch. The atmosphere was nice too, fashionable and not the usual USA diners vibe. Overall the quality and the portion was satisfying and worth the price. Definitely a spot I could come back to.

Here the queue is long. We order the cheese burger, applerella burger, tomato sauce and chocolate shake. The burger both taste good. The bread is crispy. The patty texture season well. Applerella burger the apple inside taste nice. Tomato soup texture too watery. Chocolate shake just nice.

Burger and cheese burger tasted pretty good. The bread edge was little burnt (still tasted good tho), seasoning was nice as well. However I felt the fries wasn’t that satisfying comparing to the burgers. Also I need to call out if you are an adult male and coming with an empty stomach, probably it gonna cost you more than 3000円 (along with a beer) In general it’s still a worthy place to come :)

Late post, from 2019 lol. The service was great and the restaurant is nice and clean. We traveled about 35 minutes just to try this restaurant. Our first and only burger in Tokyo area. Credit card✅ Visited around 3 PM on a weekday. The interior seats about 8–10 groups. Burgers come with fries by default, and drinks are ordered separately. The menu is mostly burger options, with prices around ¥2,000. We ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and the Mozzarella Mushroom Burger. The fries on the side were thick-cut, crispy, and delicious. The Bacon Cheeseburger tasted exactly like the ideal burger — the bun was toasted with butter, and the patty and sauce paired perfectly. The Mozzarella Mushroom Burger had a great balance of white sauce, melted mozzarella, and sautéed mushrooms. If you’re in Bunkyō, I highly recommend stopping by! They also offer the option to swap the bun for lettuce.

Over the years, Fire House has achieved an institution level of fame for their American style diner menu. The restaurant opened in 1996 and has been in the same area for more than 20 years now. The burgers served here are large, the meat is tender and juicy, the buns are soft, and the lettuce are crisp. And. I matter how many times you come, it’s always the same, high quality and consistent over the years. What I also love is the generous portion of fries. In Japan, you will find many burger restaurants that serve a ridiculously tiny amount of fries... At Fire House you’ll find it the equivalent of something in the US. When I’m here, I always tend to order a double cheeseburger with a side of clam chowder. My wife had ordered a bacon cheeseburger. Although they are famous for their Apple Burger and Mozzarella Mushroom Burger, I’ve never tried it. Perhaps for my next review, I’ll give it a shot.

Very tasty burger with several topping to choose from. The fries were delicious but maybe not enough to go with the sandwich. Nice atmosphere and even have shakes, so will report back next time I go. There’s nothing like a burger and vanilla shake. Prices are normal for a good burger in Tokyo. Service was fast and friendly. Definitely worth checking out.

Il Teatro is a sophisticated Italian restaurant known for its serene ambiance and high-end pasta dishes, along with an impressive wine list. The chef, a young talent from Calabria, brings a touch of the sunny South to the menu, focusing on seafood and using natural herbs for flavor. The refined cuisine has been compared to Japanese kaiseki fare. Guests have praised the spectacular view and delicious food, although some experienced service issues.
The pistachio pasta was amazing, and the handmade noodles had a great chew. The steak had good marbling, but unfortunately, the sauce was lacking. The bread and olive oil were nice. The coffee was too bitter on its own, but it paired better with the tiramisu. Service needs improvement — a staff member dropped a knife and fork on me. Other than that, the environment was great.

Came here for breakfast, the view is spectacular. The foods is good. However, they missed our order completely. After 40 minutes of waiting and after all the tables came in after us served, we finally asked them where was our foods. Then they checked and came back with a question of the type of eggs we wanted. It seemed our order had been ignored for good until we asked. I hate to discourage a fine restaurant by giving a 4-star review. I love this place so much! It’s just behind our hotel. The tonkatsu is really great—so tender and reasonably priced. The chefs prepare the food right in front of you. It’s a tiny space, but that just adds to the authentic experience. There was no queue when I went, so I got seated immediately. Loved their sauce and that mustard thing they have—haha! Isen - an 80+ years old tonkatsu restaurant located in Ueno area of Tokyo. Their claim to fame is they invented the katsusando or tonkatsu sandwich. The tonkatsu is quite good, so tender you can cut it with your chopsticks! I ordered the ebi fry and it came with a tartar sauce that was so good I licked it to the last drop! The price of a rosu teishoku is a $13 only. That is really cheaper than any of the other places I went to like Narikura where you will spend about $30. The soup is not your traditional miso but a pork broth soup.

Upscale tonkatsu served in a beautiful space. We had counter seats right in front of the kitchen and it was enjoyable watching the well-practiced staff do their thing. More importantly, the food is excellent. The katsu is very deep in flavour, owing to the high-quality pork. Cabbage, rice, sauce, and breading all contribute to highlight the beauty of the meat. The miso soup was also unbelievable, perhaps my favourite ever, with little nuggets of marbled pork and a divine richness. The prices here are a touch high, but the quality is evident in every aspect. Very much worth a visit.

Soup was cooked with pork meat, and one of the best I have tasted. Tonkatsu was served hot, bread crust on the outside with tender meat that is not salty. You can add sauce over tonkatsu and cabbage for a varied flavour.

Le Jardin is a charming restaurant located next to the Setagaya Art Museum in Tokyo. The restaurant offers a polished dining experience with a terrace and a light-filled ambiance, specializing in classic Gallic cuisine. What sets Le Jardin apart is its open garden area with lush greenery and views of the park, creating an urban oasis that transports diners away from the bustling city.
Great restaurant and often has closed parties due to the greenery in their open garden area and the park beyond that. The restaurant dining area is on the park side, making you think you're not in ultra urbanized Tokyo. In one afternoon you could go to the art museum next door, have a picnic, and then a nice meal. (though I'm not certain of dress codes, it's probably okay in casual dress at all times of the day)

(Translated by Google) I went there for lunch. I didn't make a reservation because I couldn't read how long it would take before the meal. It was around 12 o'clock, so it was already full. I thought about writing my name on the waiting board and strolling around the museum, but it seems that people who are waiting in line will have priority. I was politely told that it would probably move in about 30 minutes, so I sat on a chair in the connecting passage (with air conditioning) and waited. Even during that time, you can spend a relaxing time looking at the green garden. I was shown to a table near the center. The greenery of Kinuta Park is refreshing through the large glass windows. I ordered a meat course meal. Appetizer, bread, soup, main dish, dessert, and drink. The main meat was very tender and stewed, and it was very easy on the stomach. The soup was light with vegetables, which is gentle on the stomach at this time of year. The coffee at the end was a little strong, but it went very well with the caramel mousse dessert. The atmosphere was great, so I would like to visit again! Reservations are required, so I made one for opening at 11:00 and was shown to a seat close to the garden. I had the autumn limited course, and everything was absolutely delicious! The dishes were served in small portions so it wasn't too heavy, and I finished it all in a delicious way. I was particularly impressed by the "Chicken Cleopatra Style" and the dessert plate. I had never tried the "Chicken Cleopatra Style" before, but I was blown away by how delicious it was, which is hard to put into words. I looked up the recipe hoping to make it at home, but it's actually quite difficult...I think it's best to eat it in the restaurant! The dessert plate also had about ten different dishes, and every one was delicious! Especially the crème brûlée! The Setagaya Art Museum itself is currently hosting some very interesting exhibitions, so I'm sure I'll visit again, and I'd love to come back for more! Japanese restaurant
Miyuki is a luxurious hotel with opulent lodging, 9 restaurants, and beautifully landscaped gardens. The hotel's spa features hot springs for relaxation. One of the restaurants offers teppanyaki courses with a skilled griller who has been nominated since the time of the Washington Hotel. Guests appreciate the entertaining and delicious dining experience, especially for birthday celebrations. Another restaurant in Miyuki provides an excellent view of the hotel garden, particularly beautiful during sakura season.
If you are staying in Hotel Shinzano, this is a good dinner option. One can get a set dinner that takes about 2 hours or order a la carte. I had an hour and ordered individual dishes. Sashimi set was good, tempura very good, eggplant wonderful. I wouldn’t drive here if I’m staying in the city center just for the food, but if you’re staying in this hotel really worth checking out for a casual Japanese dinner.

Nezu Kamachiku is a renowned udon specialty restaurant located near Nezu Station in Yanaka Ginza, Tokyo. Housed in a historic building over 100 years old, the restaurant offers a unique dining experience with its traditional Japanese-style garden view. The menu features udon noodles served with warm or cold soup, along with delectable fried dishes.
I and my wife had an exceptional dining experience at this udon restaurant. From making a reservation to savoring the delicious food and drinks, everything was perfect. The dining environment is cozy and inviting, and the tableware is impeccable. I highly recommend everyone to visit and enjoy a meal here.

I walked in to this restaurant a few minutes after opening hours and found out that there’s a line about 10 people before me. Another highlight of my Japan trip, it really was an excellent lunch. We queued for about 30-40 minutes but it is absolutely worth the wait. The zaru-udon were the best we ever tried. Simple but delicious. If you go early you can also try their tofu, only limited to the first 10 people coming. The location and the staff were also fabulous.

I came for dinner without any reservation and I've been waiting in queue for just a couple of minutes... but even a 3 hour long queue would have been worth the wait. Before getting to the place I already had the feeling that the dinner would've been amazing, the neighborhood was so nice and in the drizzle I felt in a Studio Ghibli animation. I had my meal in a shared table (8 ppl). The atmosphere inside was unreal, I have never experienced such an authentic and cozy dinner. All the staff was very kind, explaining me the dishes and trying to show me new ingredients that I've never seen before. The food was incredibly good, I tasted the best udon I've ever had in my life, and the duck was delicious as well. Everything was for a super (but really super) reasonable price. I wish I could come back every day, thank you thank you thank you. Greetings from Italy, and hope to see you soon again.

I loved it! Amazing udon noodle restaurant and super beautiful interior. The udon and sides were all perfect.
Sulaiman A — Google review
Despite having a reservation, we were shown to the lowest-grade table. When we refused, we were charged a cancellation fee. ・We were shown to a large table near the entrance, and while the other customers sat side by side, the waiter instructed us to sit facing each other. Although the table was set wide enough to accommodate separate groups, we had to sit facing each other. Because we were the only ones seated facing each other, my wife and I could barely hear each other without speaking very loudly. It was easy to imagine that I would have to stand up and lean forward to pour her a drink. ・The restaurant told us they were fully booked and couldn't change seats, which I understand, but they never mentioned the problem when we made the reservation. So, when I told them I wanted to cancel if this was the only seat available, they said they would charge a cancellation fee. ・I wasn't told there would be a cancellation fee when I made the reservation. They were condescending throughout, insisting they'd arranged a table for us even though the restaurant was fully booked. ・I live nearby and this was my first time there, but there are plenty of affordable, delicious restaurants in Nezu that offer better service. ・To all foreign tourists, if you want to go to a real Japanese restaurant, I strongly recommend you to go elsewhere. This restaurant caters to tourists, so its selling point is only the atmosphere of a Japanese storehouse, but the service quality and value for money are extremely low.

It's one of the best udon I have tasted. The elasticity of the noodle was just perfect. The tempura tasted amazing; light and crispy. The "rice crispy" looking fried batter that you add into the soup base was just so addictive! The garden outside adds such a nice touch to the restaurant. Would recommend going early as there is always a long queue!

Food is fresh and cooked well. It was a great experience and the meal was delicious. Our Japanese wasn't good but the staff provided great service and tried to spoke in English where possible. Their Wagyu is legit here. I've had high grade Wagyu other times now in Japan and would say it is about standard here. However this place definitely puts more effort into the other dishes leading up to it.

We booked the 9-course meal (through Tabelog) about a month before we left for Japan, so it was one of the dinners I was most looking forward to. It surpassed my expectations. Not only was the food delicious (our favorites were the main-course steak and wagyu burger), but the service was outstanding. We sat at the bar and were able to watch every course be craftily prepared. There was a bit of a language barrier on a couple of dishes, but we eventually got there. Overall, it was a special experience and I would argue one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I can’t recommend this place enough.

The best meal I've ever had. From the beginning we felt welcome. The service was incredibly professional but charming, calm and very appropriate to the situation that we were in. The food... We chose the Ultimate menu, it was her birthday and we wanted something good. Our expectations were exceeded to an amazing extent. I've eating in Michelin starred restaurant and this place puts them to shame. A brilliantly conceived menu with pin-point accurate cooking delivered with a calm reassuring ease that raised and enhanced our experience. Each dish was described and perfectly presented. We were there at the same time as a Japanese couple that were also celebrating a birthday and they joined us in celebrating a Grand occasion. I took quite a lot of effort to book this meal and it turned out to be effort well spent. You only live once and eating here has been for us one of the great events in our life I kid you not. Many thanks to the staff and chefs that made this happen for us.

The Artist's Cafe is a classic Italian restaurant located on the 43rd floor of a hotel, offering stunning panoramic views of Tokyo. While some patrons found the portions to be on the smaller side, others appreciated the delicate presentation and beautiful setting, making it an ideal spot for a date or gathering. The restaurant used to offer a lunch buffet but has since stopped due to COVID-19 concerns.
A great experience! I reserved a table easily online. Staff were very friendly and accommodating to my groups dietary requirements. The food was really good and the views from the restaurant are great. Would definitely recommend coming here, especially if you wish to celebrate an occasion.

Great night view, and some food. But don't come here if you are hungry, it will just leave you graving for more :-) I got the bigger portion of the pasta ( Omori) and it was just enough to not make me feel hungry right now, but will probably have to eat something later once more. Ladies and kids might be alright with the volume, but for guys the portions are too small. Presentation style and setting is beautiful. If they change the lighting near the windows, you could actually take awesome night shots of Tokyo from any angle. So I suggest to go there when you are not really hungry or you prefer a special setting or just use the artists bar on the same floor near the entrance area.

The location is very convenient and the view is amazing. I had La Vista Italian course. The food is delicate but a little lack of flavor. The decorations are a little old fashioned like 90s. I would recommend this place for a date or a gathering. Also try to avoid a big day with concert cuz the Dome area will be usually quite crowded exactly after the dinner. Sizzler is a restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. The salad bar is a standout feature, offering an array of options to choose from. Customers can savor dishes like lamb chops and make their own tacos. The dessert and drink choices are varied and satisfying. One can enjoy a leisurely meal without feeling rushed, as there's no time limit for dining. The American fare on offer adds to the appeal of this place, with friendly service enhancing the overall experience.
Surprisingly Veggie-Friendly! Great Value Lunch Buffet I always thought Sizzler was just a meat-heavy chain, but I was pleasantly surprised at how many vegetarian and even vegan options they offer — especially at their all-you-can-eat salad bar lunch (2,700 yen). There’s a huge variety of vegetables, including fresh guacamole-style mashed avocado, a good selection of vegan dressings, and loads of breads like pita, focaccia, and croissants. I ended up making my own little DIY pita sandwiches with all the salad toppings — delicious and fun. The buffet also includes unlimited coffee, lattes, juices, and soft drinks, plus a dessert bar with apple crumble, ice cream, and profiteroles (vegan options are a bit limited here, but still okay if you focus on fruit or plain options). While Sizzler is known for meat, don’t be afraid to visit if you’re vegan or vegetarian — there are actually tons of satisfying choices, and the atmosphere is relaxed with friendly staff. A great find in Suidobashi near Tokyo Dome!

Love their salad bar! I had the lamb chops and oh, it was really good! They also had a ‘make your own taco’ section which I really liked. They had varied choices for dessert and drinks! Really good~ We went for lunch. The restaurant’s system is for you to order a main course of your choice and that already includes access to the salad bar. I don’t remember being given a time limit so I really appreciated the fact that I was able to dine unhurriedly and eat at my own pace. It was my first time trying this place out and I had a very good experience! Highly recommended!

Went here as we wanted something easy for our first night in Tokyo and it is located in the hotel. Got seated promptly but had to wait for a server. Only got the salad bar as other options seemed overpriced. Salad bar had recently increased in price. You have to ask server for a specific quantity of cheese toast. Many salad bar options but all were mediocre and I didn't have high expectations going in. Restaurant is clean and many hand sanitizers are provided. For the price it would have been better to find a different dinner option.
