Where to eat: the 50 best restaurants in Hakone-machi

Came here thinking it was pork katsu, but found out it was actually tofu katsu. Was a bit disappointed until I took my first bite, absolutely delicious. We went at 5:45 PM on a Friday and were seared instantly. There seemed to only be two dishes on the menu: Tofu Katsuni Teisyoku and Tofu Katsuni Gozen. We went w the former, it came with Katsu Tofu (with minced meat inside) & egg, side of rice, and a side of miso soup. Service was great, we got our food and drinks in under 5 minutes. It arrived on a hot plate so it was still simmering, it made for great pictures/videos (and just made it look amazing overall). Highly recommend you give this place a try, this is coming from someone who doesn’t like tofu. Tatami mat seating really added to the japanese feel. We paid 2,563 yen per person, one entree one drink. CASH ONLY

We came for dinner and picked up a queue number from the automatic machine around 3:50pm, which allowed us to walk straight in when the restaurant opened at 5pm. We got the tofu katsuni which was tofu with minced pork and the pork cutlet set. While the portion was generous and the dishes were tasty, I felt the ratio was a bit off with noticeably less minced pork compared to the tofu.

VEGETARIANS- Read my review! Delicious food. Nice staff. Loved this restaurant :) When you arrive without a reservation, you take a number from the iPad kiosk at the front door and wait. We waited about 25 mins on a Saturday night at 5:30pm. Pretty good. The Tofu Katsui doesn’t mention meat at all on the menu - it just says Tofu Katsu but it HAS PORK inside it. Don’t be fooled. BUT - You CAN order it without meat! :) On the iPad- click Single Tofu Katsuni then under Seasonings- on the second page, select 肉抜きwhich means Meatless. That meatless button is only available on the single tofu katsuni listing, not the Teisyoku or Gozen listings. You can’t order the Gozen set Vegetarian because all the little appetisers are pork or fish. I suggest getting the single tofu katsuni meatless, then adding miso soup and rice from the sides menu to make your own set :) Or use google translate and ask a staff member for the Tofu Katsuni Teisyoku Meatless even though there isn’t a meatless button for that one. (IMO there should be a button for that). We had a fantastic time. Tofu was soft and delicious, egg was perfectly seasoned. Really appreciated being able to get the tofu meatless. Thank you.

Surprisingly worth the wait! We waited in line for quite sometime as this is a hotspot for nighttime in Hakone! Really great selection of high quality pork’s for your Katsu! Highly recommend trying it out even if it’s a little pricier.

Nice tofu katsu place! First time trying katsu tofu. Need to queue by taking a queue number. There is a new and old building. Old building only serves tofu. We went to the newer building and also had pork katsu.

I never expected to find such a delicious restaurant in Hakone; I haven’t tried anything like it in Tokyo. Japanese-style fried tofu, but with meat stuffed inside, goes perfectly with rice. It’s not too salty, suitable for kids, and great for families to enjoy.

The tofu tonkatsu was really good for a reasonable price (1800 yen). Welcoming for foreigners if you try to speak Japanese as much as you can. Just take care if you plan to take other stuff, the prices might escalate a bit.

Love love love. Fish grilled and seasoned to perfection! We got the salted salmon and sweet sake mackerel. Highly recommend both. Just a warning you will have to fish out the bones! But well worth the delicious meal :)

Beautifully cooked steak with perfect accompaniments. You can spend a little or a lot based on your wagyu preference. The sake cup changes colored depending on how you have it served: cold gives you pink sakura and hot gives you blue sakura. So cute! Lovely staff, great service and tasty food. A must if you’re in Hakone, get there early if you don’t want to line up.

unexpected find in hakone! We ordered the salted salmon and steak which was surprisingly very tender and full of flavour! The salmon was cooked so well it literally melts in your mouth. But the skin was a bit burnt so I didnt eat that. They were cooked over charcoal which gave the extra wokhey taste. Their vegetable tempura was really tasty as well. Highly recommend to come here! One slight thing was that the restaurant was very smokey but not hot as there was aircon:)

Great little place that feels really authentic and serves delicious food at affordable price. The salmon was really tasty, and so is the rest of the set. Cash only and get really to queue unless you come in before noon.

I had a really good time and ate delicious grilled fish in a traditional plating style and a perfectly poured beer. Suggested if you are looking for something tasty that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy. Also the waitress was super cute ✨

Kinosuke is a restaurant that primarily serves grilled fish. It is walking distance from the hakone Yumoto station. They open 11.30-2 and 5.30- 9pm. We went in the evening and there was a waiting line from 5:15pm. The sweetened mackerel is really delightful. I also enjoyed the salad. There is also alcohol.

Unfriendly staff and bad quality of food. The chicken was over cooked and clearly unmatched for the price range compare with other Japanese restaurants. The waitress was rude and repeat *No!No!* when I tried to ask her if my little nephew able to sit on the tatami mat seats or not. She blocked my way when I tried to walk toward my nephew since my family was arranged to sit in separate table. I understand the rule and not intend to violate it. The waitress treat me like an impolite person before asking me for the reason.

The owner and Chef Yusuke is a real one. This guy delivered the best meal I had in Japan. The ambience and overall experience was insanely good, and the value for money exceeds anything I had in Japan. What a treat, if you’re in this region, you must go!!

Exceptional place, with incredible service as well. Chef was willing to open for dinner an hour early for us to accommodate our travel plans, and was very friendly throughout the meal. Highly recommend the Kinki fish - a seasonal item for the winter which is well worth the (very reasonable) 1200 yen top up.

We had the full course tasting menu and trust me, you really don’t want to miss out on anything. You could say we are quite the foodies and we’ve eaten in a lot of restaurants all across the world (from best of the world to local ramen shops etc). We’ve entered this cosy Japanese restaurant and the service and hospitality is top notch, you take off your shoes upon entry which adds to the experience (as a western person I guess). We roughly had around 7 courses and they were all incredibly well balanced and super tasteful. The sashimi we had was arguably the best we’ve tasted in our lives so far (yes we’ve been to the Tokyo fish market and had dinner the day before at a Michelin star sushi restaurant in Tokyo) and we still think this sashimi was better. The photo’s will speak for itself, if you are anywhere near we would say it’s a must visit. Thank you so much Chef and wife for an incredible evening and experience!! Dōmo arigatōgozaimasu! ♥️ PS: the price quality ratio is amazing as well! (Not expensive at all with the current exchange rate)

We loved the 7 course menu chef Yuughen and his assistant Mikko prepared for us. (I’m sorry if the spelling of the names is not correct!) The combination of ingredients, flavors, textures was perfectly balanced throughout the meal. The tempura was the best I have ever had. The abalone and sea urchin appetizer was definitely the most intriguing dish for my palate. We thought that this restaurant was a real discovery for us. The price of the set menu is more than fair for the experience and for the actual choice of dishes that you can taste. The great thing is that both chef Yuughen and Mikko are fluent in English, so communication for us was easy. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Out of expectation, Yuzen is a nice japanese restaurant in Hakone. The shabu shabu and tempura were really tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Visited this highly-rated tofu restaurant, eager to see what all the buzz was about. While the restaurant has a great reputation, I found that the experience was a bit one-dimensional. Basically, everything had the same tofu blend taste, which became overwhelming halfway through the meal. I have to admit that I am not a super tofu fan, and the lack of variety made it hard to fully enjoy the dining experience. While the dishes were well-prepared, some variety would have greatly enhanced the meal. On the bright side, the ambiance and service were pleasant, which added to the overall experience.

The service was good and is available in English as well. They proactively helped with a waiting ticket. The restaurant had a waiting line for lunch at four pm as well. They again shared an English menu and a vegan menu without asking. Post serving the order they were kind enough to guide me on how to enjoy the food. I was attracted by the pic of the yubadon 🥣 and was in an experimentation mode. The taste was new for me. Their recipes is a bit unique. It is pre-printed with the most common options and that may confuse you on the bill amount but pay closer attention and you should be good.

Incredible. Exactly what we expected! Tofu was sooo soft and delicious. It smelled really good and was super comforting to eat. Light but the portion was big so we felt really full. Dessert was great too it wasn’t too sweet. The view was spectacular. We walked around a little bit while we wait. The wait was quite long when we were there but it moved relatively quickly! There are many paid parking lots near by and the street is full of souvenirs shops from the local goods.

Great restaurant focusing on tofu and offers a nice view of the river. The tofu dishes were delicious and unique, highly recommend the tofu sashimi. Love how concentrated the menu is. Visited on a Monday around 11:30am and had to wait 5 mins for a table which is not bad at all.

Not very crowded when we went on a Sunday, very near to the train station. Menu was limited and even though I’m not a tofu lover, the tofu here had the texture more like beancurd than the tofu we have in Singapore. Staff were friendly and helpful (we nearly left behind our jacket)

I had no idea you could make tofu sooo good. The texture of the tofu is probably the best I've ever had. The flavours are simple but it's good because you get to focus on the quality of the tofu. I had the tofu set. Of course the yubadon itself is nice, but absolutely love the side dishes with the soft silky tofu and then the thinly sliced tofu "sashimi".

I hear this restaurant can be fully booked but luckily for us we were able to get a table. We arrived just before 5pm on a weekday. It was a cold day so we sat inside but they do have outdoor seating next to the river. We were not that hungry so my partner and I shared the soy milk skin omelet combo meal - 1800 yen with a side of fish cake - 650 yen. Service was quick. After ordering, our food came out in less than 10 mins. The fish cake was large and cut into 4 pieces and the yuba dishes were all light tasting. There were a mix of hot and cold dishes and we enjoyed our meal. They accept credit cards.

ChineseXJapanese food fusion restaurant. Amazing food! And it was also my last meal before the end of my trip. It was SO GOOD! Hand made noodles as well! I will most definitely come back in my next visit :). Lots of seating they have a upstairs as well which was perfect for a group of 7! This restaurant and the town too Hakone was one of my highlights of my trip i will never forget!

Truly one of the best meals I had during my visit to Hakone. Great price for a delicious filling meal. If you love soups, noodles, dim sum, or Chinese food in general this is 100% worth it.

An incredible restaurant tucked away in a secondary street, don't miss this one! The portions are very abundant and the prices are super low, everything is handmade, included their special spicy sauce (which you can buy). I wish i was still in Hakone to try their food again!

For 1000 yen I had the most refreshing char-siew noodles that I've had the pleasure to eat in awhile. 5 thick cut char siew pieces, springy noodles, clear delicious broth that does not overpower. Staff is very nice too, and the atmosphere is very calming. Definitely bang for the buck, will return for other items on the menu.

Super yummy Chinese style, Japanese ramen! I love how the wok-hey is incorporated into the ramen. And the load of veg on it makes me feel so much healthier and satisfied! The fried wontons were perfectly seasoned, and Sesame balls were so delicious! The steamed dumplings were surprisingly good, reminded me of the dumplings my late grandma would use to make. But it would be good if it were most seasoned. Would come back again if I were to ever visit Hakone again! 😊

This is my favorite place in Japan so far. We had the Kakuni Noodles. (They only serve 20 of these a day) and it was AMAZING. Highly highly recommend. It has a very quaint and chill atmosphere. We originally found this on Tablelog.

Love it! Me and my friend were hunting for dinner and stumbled upon this gem. We had to wait a while but as we were quite late there wasn't much customers already. The boss was super friendly, and the dishes were super delicious! My favourite was the lemon ramen, which was super refreshing. We had a vegetarian friend with us and I could say the dishes can be cater for vegetarian as well, but not vegan. Would definitely come again!

THE FOOD IS SO BAD. I got the 27,000 yen Kikukaiseki because the front desk lady told me it was going to be everything premium and it was a complete scam. The food was horrible, portions were extremely small. I even got my “meat dish” cold. Honestly I’m extremely frustrated with the situation because it is not a good price for value. It’s also one of my last nights in Japan so it’s a shame I ate here. The place itself is cool. This is the only place I didn’t like the food in Japan. Honestly would not recommend, the food quality is cheat Chinese all you can eat in the USA type of vibe. Even the sashimi was bad. How can you make bad sashimi in JAPAN? .

We were really looking forward to this experience but left disappointed. It was our first time dining at a fine Japanese restaurant, and since we were staying in the hotel, we were excited to enjoy the full experience. Unfortunately, our waitress wasn’t helpful when we asked for guidance on the menu. We had reviewed it beforehand and hoped for clarification on several items that weren’t described, as well as recommendations on pairing dishes — none were provided. My main dishes were served far apart, and one was incorrect, resulting in a longer wait. Portions were extremely small, and depending on your choices, you may leave hungry. While the presentation was beautiful — as expected of Japanese cuisine — many of the dishes lacked depth of flavour. Prices were also very high for the overall experience. We’ve enjoyed incredible food throughout Japan, so our disappointment lies not with Japanese cuisine, but with this particular restaurant. A real pity, as it’s set in such beautiful surroundings.

Beautiful restaurant with great setting. Services were so great, especially the waitress that served 11 of us the whole lunch. We were led to the restaurant from the hotel foyer, as the restaurant is outside of the hotel compound. 3 star for the food, nothing surprising, but the private room we booked was just perfect. The booking experience was tiring, but I am glad they adjust the menu to fit the dietary requirements. Still worth a visit, but don't expect much about the food.

I was excited to try this highly rated kaiseki restaurant in Hakone, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a major disappointment. For 23,000 yen per person, I expected a refined and memorable dining experience, but the meal fell far short of expectations. The portions were tiny, the flavors were weird and didn’t complement each other well, and overall, the food quality was underwhelming—I’ve had much better meals at small family-run restaurants. To make matters worse, one of the dishes was missing an ingredient, and we had to ask for it which is definitely not acceptable at 23,000 yen per person. While our server was friendly, the restaurant seemed short-staffed. At times, the next course was brought out before we had finished the current one. I’m not sure if this is typical in Japan, but in most restaurant, this would be seen as inconsiderate. If you’re looking for an exceptional kaiseki experience in Hakone, I would recommend exploring other options and skipping Kikka So. This is the first meal in Japan that deeply disappointed me.

2 stars and pushing. Only for the atmosphere and customer service is Excellent. However the food, disgraceful; coming to a 5 star resort, you would think you will get 5 star food especially when you’re paying top dollar. My wife and I spent about $300 Australian Dollars and I still had to go down the road to buy a burger I was starving! The portions are embarrassing, it’s a big let down for the hotel! So embarrassing honestly and if that was Australia you would be fined for serving lobster that small. Very disappointed and it’s sad I had to put this out there but people shouldn’t have to pay top dollar for this. We ordered lobster $70 60 grams of wagyu steak for $85 sushimi was $30 for three pieces and the fruit platter topped it off $25 for 3 pieces of pineapple and one grape and one little piece of mango.

Had dinner in this Japanese restaurant in connection with the Fujiya Hotel. This is their Japanese restaurant and you have to cross a road from hotel to get there. The meal is generally of high standard but its lacks luxury ingredients. The tempura course are quite disappointed as it is not crispy enough and tasted soso Sashimi course also too simple. No good surprise element from this restaurant and I had better ones in other onsen hotel.

A former Imperial Villa now a restaurant of the next door Fujiya Hotel. Had breakfast here—very good traditional Japanese breakfast. Excellent service.

Great atmosphere in old style tea house. Service is top notch and both friendly and professional, and for the price it is great quality, served in beautiful urushi (lacquer ware) and a good amount to fill you up. I went for the course with everything. Really enjoyed each course, each with its own subtle differences and subtle flavours. If you love tofu and tororo (sticky grated yam), give it a go!

Attracted by the appearance and walk in without any wait even was on Saturday . They are many choices for lunch and I ordered the most expensive kaiseki set menu only cost 3000yen . I enjoyed all the dishes , as I love Tofu and Yamaimo ( Japanese Yam ) so it hit the right spot . Eating at a traditional Japanese table gave me a good zen feeling , it is also good for solo travellers .

Shika Jaya is a traditionally decorated Japanese restaurants specializing in two things: tofu and tororo, a sticky paste made of grated yam. The set menus here came with printed descriptions and were served course by course as a tasting menu of sorts. The Shika Tokizen menu came with nearly every dish on offer, starting with Nama Yuba (soy milk skin) and Wasabi Miso Yakko (cold tofu topped with a paste of sesame, wasabi, and miso), which was my favorite tofu dish thanks to its custardy texture. Next came So-un Tofu, a warm dish of tofu topped with grated yam, showcasing both specialties of the restaurant in one dish. The grated yam had a fascinating sticky texture but was almost completely flavorless. The Yamaimo Isobe Yaki were two round pieces of grated yam wrapped in nori and sautéed, and the yam had a drier, chewy consistency. The Su No Mono was grated yam topped with a cube of raw tuna and seasoned with sake, soy sauce, sugar, and vinegar. The last few dishes all came together to complete the meal. The Tofu Steak consisted of firm cubes of tofu in a pan served over a flame. The tofu was seasoned with soy sauce and topped with scallions, bonito flakes, ginger, and a cube of butter. The Tororo was straight-up grated yam seasoned with dashi and miso, meant for mixing together with the Muginesi, or rice cooked with barley. The rice was also served with soup and tsukemono (Japanese pickles), thus completing the meal! Overall, this was a great place to try two local Japanese specialties, and though the flavors felt redundant at times, everything was prepared with care and with quality ingredients. The service was super friendly as well and made for a cozy, homestyle dining experience!

A beautiful and satisfying experience from start to finish. The food was very delicious. The ambiance was very warm and cozy, and the service was very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant and will come here again in the future.

i loved the place! i was able to have a delicious 3-course vegan meal. great tofu texture. i love that the entire restaurant revolves around tofu and yam, the specialties of hakone. the atmosphere was also amazing.

True authentic Japanese cuisine and not very expensive, Forget the western expectations and indulge yourself with Japanese taste and style. Great handmade Tofu, Great vegetarian dishes. Warmly recommended.

Acquired taste alert! I liked my yuba zen set 1900¥ which comes in neutral tasting flavours and pickles for the kick. But the others ordered something with Japanese yam and be aware that the yam comes in a slimey gooey mashed texture (imagine baby food) which we really disliked and didn't touch more than 2 mouthfuls. As long as you know what you're ordering, the ambience is really traditional and quiet, with amazing and friendly waitresses who teach you how to enjoy your food as it comes in multiple courses. I see mostly locals eating here.

Lunch with beautiful view to the stream. I recommend chicken and fries, ramen. But matcha latte is canned one, taste is a bit weird, I just take one sip. I hope that that they will change to freshly made matcha latte🙂

Such a perfect lunch spot! Got off the train and found this great place nearby. Perfect size portion with friendly staff and they were so quick! I had the sweet chili chicken and fries and it had a kick to it. Loved the sweet chili sauce! Priced were affordable and it was so easy and convenient to get to.

This place has a beautiful little terrace overlooking the river! Why is rhere so little outdoor seating in Japan? It makes no sense. Food is okay, beers are amazing.

Hakone is by far one of the most beautiful places i have visited. this restaurant has such a beautiful scenery, with a window outlooking the lake. However their pricey food which i thought would do justice didn’t. I ordered the Pork fillet cutlet sandwich which was 1,500¥ (10USD) absolutely horrible. The sandwich had so much sauce that i couldn’t taste the pork. the sandwich couldn’t even fit in my mouth. The staff are so nice and kind but gee, look elsewhere.

After battling with the trains to get to Hakone, all we really wanted was just some yummy food. Something about the hearty curry pulled me in and the tofu milkshake sealed the deal. On a sunny day, there's nothing better than basking in the warm sun on the terrace, listening to the trickling river and finally soaking in that you're actually on holiday. As you can see, the menchi Katsu Burger was also a whopper with some pretty good fries to accompany them. Maybe it's my tinted memories but it peaked over into 5 stars for me.

The resto is on second floor. Have seating facing to the river, cozy and nice place to chill. Minced pork cutlets burger tastes goood. You can have extra sauce and other condiments from the counter, self served. The tofu shake is a must try, is unique taste, not too thick but taste sooo good.

I loved the ramen!! And the tofu shake black sesame was pretty good too. The ambience is nice in the terrace with views to the mountain.

This is a bright and chic Italian restaurant by the lakeside. We had a pizza, a pasta dish, an appetizer and dessert. The service was efficient and the food was served quick and hot. I found the fried vegetables appetizer not so worthy but overall it was a good meal. They have a canine friendly area (separate room) where you can have your dog join you at the dining table. I'm sure pet lovers would love this place. If the "halal" mention attracts you, just know there are no halal meat options on the menu. This place is worth going to for a decent Italian meal.

Has both indoor and outdoor seating, large parties ok. Reservations preferred. Food was pretty good, decent portions. Prices are a bit high but not unexpected for a touristy area. Desserts were really good, especially the tiramisu and seasonal plum sorbet.

During my trip to Hakone, after a long day of tour, we were super hungry. we went to this restaurant for some italian pizza. Ended up late evening wirhout a reservation almost near to the closing hour but they were kind to let us in. The place was full house. Service staff were very polite and friendly. Ordered pizza and pasta. Both were served pretty fast. Pizza very flavourful and aromatic.. it was perfectly baked with juicy toppings. Definitely a must visit place if you are at Hakone.

Very good pizza place by the coast. Short opening time in the evening so make a reservation or get there early (as it opens is best). The pizza is good, Italian style and flavourful. They are generous with the toppings. The deserts are nice also but not quite gelato. The staff are pleasant as is expected in Japan, but there is a sense of rush which I think comes with having to deal with tourist groups daily.

So to be honest, the pizza was really good.It has a really good location right on the water.I'll say it again.The pizza was very good.Unfortunately, the prices are extremely high.Especially for japan, they are banking on tourists.And they are doing it because they can also because, for whatever reason, half the restaurants in the area close at five o'clock, even on a friday makes zero sense with how much money they could be making, I get it, they do what they can.But twenty one dollars for a pizza is outrageous. The waitstaff is really friendly.The service is great.The food is great, but the prices have to be lowered seven dollars for a super dry draft is way high.

Woodfire pizzas on a chilly autumn day with great company... Service was fast and efficient. Toasty ambience inside. Do take note they close a bit after lunch and re-open for dinner (today was at 5pm). Located a little walk away from the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise Pier, Motohakone.

We ordered the recommended Prosciutto Pizza along with a side of fried mozzarella bites. The pizza was delicious—we easily finished the whole thing between the two of us after a long day exploring Hakone. The mozzarella bites, however, were a bit disappointing as they arrived lukewarm; we would’ve preferred them hotter. Unfortunately, the service felt just as lukewarm. Overall, it was still an enjoyable meal, but if given the chance, I’d probably try a different restaurant next time.

A brilliant Itallian resturant tucked down a narrow street of Hakone. We loved everything about this place and came back for dinner twice over our two-night stay in Hakone. The food was exceptional, we tried a variety of pizzas including the margarita, porcini and apple pie dessert pizza. A strong focus on perfecting simple, fresh local ingredients. The service was great, staff were very accommodating and offered an English menu and spoke sufficient English. We were very impressed, there is a reason for the long lines of hungry awaiting customers every night. Thank you so much!

Wonderful little gem on a side street of a main street in Hakone Yumoto. Pizza was excellent as they have an authentic neapolitan wood burning oven. Very thin crust with a variety of toppings with authentic ingredients (prosciutto, burrata, mozzarella, etc). Price averages about 2500¥ for a personal size pizza. It was CASH ONLY! Service was excellent as always in Japan. If you're in the mood for pizza in Hakone, this place is it! 😋🍕

Outstanding! We visited 808 based on our friends recommendation after visiting Hakone last year, we are so glad we went! Such a cute little spot, we waited for about 20mins, the staff were lovely and very accommodating. The stand out was the food by far! The Italian wine was delicious and the pizza was amazing! Our favourite was the orange, proscuitto and burrata salad, still thinking about it! This is a must visit place when in Hakone!

Tucked away in a small alley in Hakone, my friends and I stumbled upon a fantastic little pizzeria called 808 Monsmare. It was a lucky find, especially since one of my friends, a self-proclaimed foodie who has been to Japan five times, told me that he would rank pizza from the right place in Japan right up there with the best in Italy. The place was busy when we arrived, so we opted for seats at the bar, which gave us a perfect view of the beautiful pizza oven. Watching the pizzaiolo work their magic was a treat in itself. We ordered one pizza: the Wagyu Beef pizza with smoked mozzarella, and three Sapporo on tap to wash it down. When the pizza arrived, it was clear that this place takes quality seriously. The crust was amazing—the perfect chewiness, with a slightly crisp exterior. Paired with high-quality ingredients and the right oven, I would have easily believed I was in Italy. My only minor critiques were that the pizza could have used a bit more salt, and the seating could be redesigned to better showcase that stunning oven. Overall, if you love high-quality pizza and find yourself anywhere near Hakone, 808 Monsmare is a must-visit.

We took the Wagyu pizza with smoked mozzarella, the Sicilian pizza the Caprese salad. The salad was a bit small, with a single cherry tomato and half a tomato or so. The Wagyu pizza was especially amazing. Everything tasted top notch. A weird quirk of the place is that they have mostly tables for two, and just two tables for four, but they will refuse to seat couples that are behind bigger groups (waiting for the big tables) even if a table for two opens up. This was quite annoying for the people waiting outside.

We ordered 3 variations, #1 with smoked cheese, fresh oregano, tomatoes, #2 with pancheta, #3 with red onions... SO TASTY ❤️ MMMM...the obvious was revealed, their crust was delicate and crispy, their sauce was simple crushed tomatoes, their cheese was local. In my pica you'll see the oven adjacent to a vertical stainless steel smoker. Their menu is way beyond pizza. Also they had unit of prosciutto on a Salamanca set to slice as needed. This pizzeria was just below my stay while im in Hakone. We started with CAPRESE - Fresh mozzarella imported from Italy, fruit tomato, premium olive oil, this dish are amazing. love it. the bread and olive oil was pretty good too. pizza with ordered MARGHERITA ʻ HAKONE AFFUMICATO and COLA & PROSCIUTTO - rucola, raw ham locally produced in Gotemba, smoked mozzarella. this 2 pizza was amazingly good. highly recommended.

The yumochi is famously delicious and indeed, it did not disappoint. Had the dessert selection with matcha, but the yumochi is the best - zesty and fuwa fuwa.

Chimoto is a very famous Japanese confectionery shop in Hakone. There is a cafe next to the shop, where you can eat Japanese sweets with a very elegant taste.

Space here was really cute and cosy. The warabi mochi was really soft lile a marshmallow and the kinako was really fine and melted together so well with the mochi. The yumochi was chewy, fragrant and the citron taste notes made it really light, I really enjoyed it. The matcha was solidddd.

Delicious soba noodles! We tried the tempura, cold and vege (forgot the name) soba and they were all good. The beans had an interesting salty thang to them and were nicer than we expected. Menu was also provided in English so it’s foreigner friendly.

My boyfriend and I went here to have lunch before going to Hakone Shrine! We were planning to eat at Hakone Soba Honten (はつ花そば 本店) but somehow the restaurant was close and was telling us to go here, Hakone Soba Shinkan (はつ花そば 新館).When we went inside the restaurant, the first floor was fully packed so the lady at the front told us to go upstairs. When we reached the second floor, the waitress there asked us if it's ok to share a table with the other people and after saying yes, she seated us to a table by the window with the other two ladies. My boyfriend ordered the Seiro Soba, while I ordered the Ten Zaru Soba. Our food took a while to arrive. The two ladies who were with us on the table had already left after finishing their food, and we were still there waiting for ours. My boyfriend didn't really like what he ordered. I tried his Seiro Soba and didn't like it, too. We were not used to slimy, unusual texture of the sauce (grated yam and raw egg). That was our first time to try that kind of soba and most likely not going to order that kind again. We were happy that we tried it, though! Anyway, I felt bad for my boyfriend so I shared to him the dipping sauce and other tempuras of my Ten Zaru Soba. After we finished eating, we did the usual of adding Sobayu (water that was used to cook the soba noodles) to our dipping sauce and drank it--I shared mine with my boyfriend. The check was given together with the food. So when we were done eating, we went downstairs and presented our check to the lady at the register to pay. This place is known for kamameshi, which we ordered. It tasted very healthy and fresh with all the bright vegetables, although somewhat bland. Service was excellent and it’s a beautiful little restaurant. Just across the street from the grass field people like to take photos of.

Place was recommended by our airbnb. Fast service, wide menu, well translated in English - see attached. Our dishes were very original with the soup coming in a special metallic burner. For lover of unagi, we recommend this option (no.1). The wagyaburi was melting in your mouth. We found all delicious.

Food 3.5 The food is served in a stone pot which is quite yummy and healthy. But I find the broth served on the pot with candle underneath to keep it warm taste a bit bland. Service 4 The staff are friendly and speak little bit of English. Atmosphere 4 I love the little Japanese garden they made for the waiting customers. You sit around a recessed table on a tatami upstairs. The only downside was it was a bit hot and stuffy. We asked the staff to turn on the aircon but it is still quite hot. There is not enough air circulation.

Everything we ordered were delicious! We have big windows where we sat and we have a nice view of the trees n their Japanese garden. The wait staff were attentive and they know enough English to explain things to us. Multilingual menu available. We were very satisfied with our meal.

Ordered #3 that has "five" in the name and I got exactly one tiny piece of chicken, one shrimp, one shitake, one quail egg and one gingko 😒 tasted bland as well but the unagi and beef ones looked good so maybe you can try that instead. A hit-or-miss place I guess. Nice enough presentation-wise and staff are really polite and accommodating.

This had to be my favourite spot in all of Japan. From the traditional layout to the people it was all so beautiful. Every bite I had made me want more but sadly it ran out! Hakone and this restaurant will always be a great memory for me. Fun story I’ve got a few tattoos especially on my arms and were taught that sometimes small towns and old generations are scared of tattoos due to the yakuza. While we were eating our meals I saw the chef constantly glance at mine. I thought potentially I have offended them. After our meal the chef ran out to show me his freshly done tattoos in which we had a great conversation over before taking a pic! Never think you know what’s going on with out asking. We chatted with the chefs using google translate as they tried to speak their best English and we tried to speak our best Japanese it wasn’t going so well.

Excellent local sushi and sashimi restaurant that's also great value for money. Aside from the fresh local and seasonal fish, the miso soup that's served at the end of the meal was a highlight and packed with seafood, so save some space for it. As per another recent review foreigners are welcome here. The staff don't speak English however, so if you can't speak at least basic Japanese you'll struggle to enjoy the easy atmosphere and banter the staff have with their regular customers. Note also that Yamahiko Zushi is small with just six counter seats and two tables that can accommodate four each. At the counter seats there's a space where you can sit and dangle your legs, but the tables are on tatami so you'll need to sit cross legged on the floor. The place is packed every night so I wouldn't go without a booking, but if you do please note that empty seats are no indication that the seats are actually available, since they respect bookings.

Fresh, authentic, and full of care Yamahiko Zushi serves some of the freshest sushi around — simple, beautifully made, and full of flavour. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, and you can really taste the chef’s passion for quality. A hidden gem in Hakone and absolutely worth visiting.

The abalone rice bowl was awesome. Steak bowl was average, not because it wasn’t good, just because there are so much good ones in Japan. The service was very average, don’t appear to welcome tourists. Surprised they have an English menu. The roads leading to this place is very narrow, so drive a smaller car.

Everyone was super nice and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend the grilled eggplant, steak bowl, and chicken karrage in addition to the sashimi included with the service. The server and chef were very kind and appreciated our effort to speak broken japanese. Previous commentors who thought the women were rude probably put zero effort into their communication and possess no understanding or patience.

The location is a bit hidden, but the food was great and the staff/owner were friendly. I don't know much Japanese, but they welcomed me and even saw me off the front door after I finished. The place is a simple, quaint diner that fits three tables of four people - that's it. They seated me on one of the tables even though I was dining alone. Hakone diners are usually closed by 4pm. This is one of the few gems that remain open until 10.30pm. I'm glad I made the trip instead of just onigiri in the hotel room. ごちそうさまでした!

Homemade buckwheat noodles. From cold to hot noodle pair with fresh and crispy tempura. Fresh ingredients and generous portion. End with buckwheat tea for better health (said the owner). I personally find if the noodle can boiled to slightly softer would be perfect. Simple home cook taste. There is plenty of parking for customers.

We were driving around at about 3:30pm during a heavy downpour and was just super grateful this restaurant was open! Owners were friendly and welcoming too. I came here with a group of friends during a trip to Hakone. Another member of the group and I are both vegetarian and we had been led to believe (incorrectly) that this place had options with vegan dashi. After some back and forth with the owner, Hiroko, we learned that this was not true. She very kindly offered to make us bowls of the kinoko soba with kombu dashi instead. She was so upbeat and friendly throughout our meal despite the misunderstanding and the language barrier. The food itself was delicious and really hit the spot on a rainy day. The members of our party who had gotten non-veg options really enjoyed their meals too!

We had yummy soba and udon there. The meat ball inside the soup is exceptionally fresh. The grilled chicken is also unbeatable. Highly recommended if you want to have noodles and grilled chicken

Delicious food. Got the oyakodon and the duck udon (pics included). The duck is pretty gamey but the flavor seeps very well in the udon broth. If you don't like the gamey-ness, then add a generous amount of the spiced salt on it to accentuate the richness. Ignore the 1 star ratings, this place is much better than the 3.6 star rating it has at the time of this review. Two of the 1 star ratings are because they refused service when they were closed and when they were upset at a customer who brought in a used and soiled diaper and asked the customer to throw it away.

The hotel is situated in a gorgeous location overlooking lake Ashi wity pirate ships cruising the lake to the ropeway (cable car). Lovely views of the lake, large and comfortable rooms. What let’s them down are the food options - dinner portions are absolutely tiny, not particularly tasty and very expensive, so not a great combination. Also, very limited dining options nearby - more for lunch but hardly anything in the evening

We spent two nights at the Hakone Hotel and recommend it highly. The location is excellent, lake-side with beatiful views of the surrounding mountains and Mt.Fugi on clear days (we were lucky). The hotel staff is extremely helpful and attentive. Our room was quite large (38m) and well-appointed, though a bit dated. The onsen was lovely. There’s a bus stop at the hotel’s entrance and we found it convenient to the activities and museums on our itinerary. If you’re not interested in eating at the hotel’s restaurants, there are several small places to eat within walking distance.

The location is very scenic, right off of lake ashi. There are restaurants close by. The onsen is very nice. However the rooms are very outdated, and most notably, the hotel controls the AC level, you cannot adjust it. If you are an American and like air conditioning, this isn't a good option for you.

Absolutely beautiful location and staff members are all super courteous and polite and welcoming. Our top-floor room had stunning views and very comfy bed, and was perfectly quiet at night. Two (smallish) things that make this a 4-star rating rather than a 5-star are a) the shower, which is just a bath-attachment with curtain, and tricky to get in and out of; and b) the breakfast buffet, which is a bit on the stingy side, with limited options. That aside, I highly recommend a stay here.

Great Luxury Hotel with great service and onsen!! Chao at the Reception was great and friendly assisting us with the check in and providing details of the hotel There is an onsen on the 3rd and 4 th floor where they will rotate between Male and Female in the morning and afternoon. There is a Foyer at level 1 where you can enjoy free drinks at 730am -930am and 3pm -9pm too. Location is good as it is next to the Sightseeing Priate Cruise ship which you can use with the Hakone pass There is also a Bus H at the front of the Hotel to take to reach Moto Hakone .

We went near lunch closing time thus the previous groups were all leaving, and we get the full attention of the sushi chef. The sushi are very good for a mountainous town but that's pretty normal in many other coastal towns and cities. Chef said he buys them fresh every morning. Price wise is a little higher but it's worth it.

Came here for dinner with my fam and finished around 8PM and we cannot find a taxi or uber to go back to hotel and the restaurant even drove us back. Literally if not we didn’t know how to walk back since it is 2 hour walking. I was there for holiday and I was craving for sushi ( lunch time ) I found it from google and it was my first visit . The minute I opened the door i knew I had found a right place , sashimi was sooooo fresh , I read some reviews before choosing this place but it was so fresh , it was like eating in a stared / well known fine dinning in Tokyo ! It was so great I had to order more ! Staff was friendly and they were ok to communicate in English ( English menu and credit card accepted too ) I would come back next time ! A brilliant little Mom and Pop run Izakaya, the vibes are fantastic, very rustic and lived in. The food was fantastic and the service was friendly. Its a one man team in the kitchen so expect a wait on the food but what you get is more than worth it!

Wonderful and convenient yakiniku place 3 minutes walking from the train station. They have some seats with grills and others on tatami that you can order already cooked food. The love can get quite long because so many people want delicious food at a reasonable price. I got the beef rice bowl and it was deliciously flavored. I paid for the extra meat and got about 33-50% more meat.

A really welcoming restaurant, very close to the station. The owner was so friendly, corrected our mistakes on ordering (we were going to order far too many vegetables!), brought us drinks very quickly, and then lit the gas barbecue for us to cook our own choices of meat. First class service, and we noticed after ordering, there was a QR code on the table for us to order more drinks and food – this worked brilliantly. Menu is in both English and Japanese. The restaurant does close at 9pm (clearly marked) and despite other comments/reviews, the restaurant does clearly state, in several locations, that it is cash only. This was our favourite restaurant on our entire 10 day visit to Japan. Highly recommended and very, very good value for money.

We came over in the evening and waited in line for about 40 minutes. But once you get inside, the bbq is amazing! The beef cuts were delicious and we ended up ordering more. We ordered the deluxe beef rib, loin and super delux loin. Be careful not to over-cook your meat!

On arrival, we were met by a warm and inviting restaurant with a waitress who was very happy to ensure we were well catered to. The meal was served promptly and was noticeably reminiscent of a warm, hearty homemade meal. Upon leaving, we were met with smiles from both the grandmother and waitresses. A great experience overall with warm and enthusiastic customer service from start to beginning. Great price for ramen. Great little brewery albeit a bit of a steep climb (less than 10 minutes) from the main station in town. Nice selection of beers, my best was the German style pilsner in the tin. Fantastic waygu pizza!

I decided on making a reservation to Gora Brewery Public house after seeing the Risotto on the menu, which my wife loves. In putting in the reservation, they ask if there is any special occasion for our visit, which I put that it was our 9th year anniversary together, not expecting anything at all. Not only did the food and drink absolutely surpass my expectations, the service almost brought me to tears. After asking if it was possible to get dessert to go (and being told that was not possible by the staff) we were surprised with the cheesecake with a celebratory message on it. Between the fantastic Matcha Mojito, the melt in your mouth A4 Wagyu, and aforementioned delightful Risotto, the thing that actually stood out the most was the kindness, thoughtfulness and impeccable character of the staff at this location. Thank you for making our first time in Japan truly memorable.

Phenomenal. Don’t be put off by the steep walk - it is fleeting. The food and beer are well worth it! Literally the best side salad I’ve ever had … and the pizza + wagyu curry that followed were super.

The walk up to here is pretty steep, but it is well worth it. The atmosphere is great, it isn't crowded, prices are not cheap but not that expensive, either. The service is attentive and polite. The food is mostly comprised of unique twists done on popular dishes, each of which are incredibly delicious! The matcha mojito is also excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Very lovely place. Nice for a date and relaxing. Location is up on a steep hill and very dark hill when it is night. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Would recommend the wagyu gyoza, it just melts in your mouth.

We tried the Mont Blanc specialty there, it was quite tasty and copious. Recommend to try it once when you are in Japan, especially if you like chestnuts. You have some benches outside of the place to eat seated.

Great desert. The gentleman was nice and waited for my wife to make a video. It is yam (purple stuff), ice cream and a crust that tasted like maroon crust . Very tasty!

We got some layered cake, mochi and red bean pancake - it all tasted pretty good. There are couple of benches right outside the shop by a bathtub with thermal water where you can sit and eat your sweets. Pretty convenient as the main street from the station is too narrow and too busy to sit down.

Nice people, nice ice-cream, we did come back the next day for this. We had their signature 九頭龍餅 as well when we back home, it taste good too. Love that!

Nice small restaurant. Me and my wife had the skewers, udon, fried octopus, fried chicken. And a fish. The fried octopus was my wife's favorite. It wasn't to greasy like in America and didnt sit heavy on our stomach. Small restaurant and some local guest smoke. If you dont mind its great food. They were open late so it helped us as we came in late from.Tokyo.

Our favorite place in Hakone Yumoto! Foods are fresh and delicious. The ladies are very kind and helpful.

Not many dinner options in Hakone but this place is so worth a visit. Delicious food and very hospitable staff who helped cater to my request for vegetarian food. Only down side is for whatever reason you can smoke inside which isn’t very nice.

A small local izakaya run by a mother and daughter team, tucked within the local neighbourhood not far from the Hakone Yumoto Station. They serve a huge variety of home cooked and izakaya style dishes, all were fresh and delicious!

Food was amazing and the waitress was very nice. She even spoke enough English to answer questions we had about the menu and chat about our stay in Hakone. We ate there both nights while in Hakone as they are one of the only restaurants within walking distance of our hotel that was open late (until midnight). We had the skewers, fried chicken, and udon and it was all great. It is a smoking restaurant so be mindful of that, but overall definitely worth it if you are in the area

Came in at 18:30, well after opening time. Like others here, there was no sign no nothing on the door indicating whether it was closed. We opened the door, said excuse me in Japanese and asked if we could be seated. The restaurant was empty but there was a lady in the kitchen. She just stared at us. I said ‘Sumimasen’ again and bowed and smiled and asked ‘Open?’ And she continued just to stare. Very very strange…

Went here for lunch on 11:30 AM Saturday and there were still only another group of customers so best come early. We ordered the A5 Wagyu course, it was quite affordable price point and we enjoyed all of the food. Would love to visit again.

Through the luck of chance I took a wrong turn looking for the park entrance and discovered Itoh. I stopped in for lunch and had the A4 Wagyu option, adding the foie gras. The first course of red snapper ceviche was delicate and delicious; the red snapper placed on top of the ceviche sauce. Second course was a turnip soup that was seasoned perfectly to balance the turnip bitterness with a light herbal oil on top as an accent. For salad the shunkyo daikon and lettuce had a light carrot vinegar dressing with roasted cashews and almonds. The foie gras was decadent and melted with each bite, a light orange oil to add citrus hints and the crostini had just the right amount of give. I opted for the 140g Wagyu and it’s a very large portion but couldn’t stop till it was gone. It was served with a wasabi black pepper roux and fried garlic that complemented it perfectly. Dessert was a chestnut tiramisu that wasn’t too sweet and allowed the subtle chestnut flavor to come out. I’ll definitely return for dinner in the future!

The food was delicious, they even made us a congrats plate because we were celebrating getting engaged. Would definitely go again! The 5 course meal was definitely worth the price and every course was amazing!

Was a good fine dining experience overall, but for being sponsored by nobu I expected a bit more on the service end (water refills without asking, also forgot one of our food items and the kitchen already requested last order). The steak was excellent and the chef brought out the meat prior to cooking for approval. Our friend got the seafood prefix course but didnt see overly impressed. Cocktails were very good, and the atmosphere was nice. For the price I would have expected just better service.

We dined at Itoh Nobu this week with our friends whom we have not seen in many years. Our reservation was at 7:30pm for 4. Our expectations were what you’d expect from a Nobu restaurant and unexpectedly the service was the worst we experienced in Japan. The sommelier was rude from the very beginning and seemed unhappy to be serving English speaking guests. Around 8:30 my husband noticed they were rushing us along, however we ordered a set menu and it is not the type of meal you eat in a rush. We were unaware the restaurant closed at 9pm and the staff did not mention this. At 9:10 they basically asked us to leave and rushed to give us the cheque. The moment we stepped out of the restaurant, they immediately turned off the lights leaving us completely in the dark trying to find a uber. The food was ok but the experience was so horrible we couldn’t forget it. I understand the customs might be different here in Japan however, when a booking is made at 7:30 pm it is understandable a 5 course meal would take minimum 1,5-2 hours to finish.

Wonderful, quiet, intimate experience! Each course was incredibly delicious and they were very accommodating for my gluten allergy and double checked before each dish that everything was ok for me to eat. The wagyu was the best we’ve had in Japan!

We were in Hakone for the hot springs, and this spot was really close to our hotel, so we decided to check it out for breakfast. It’s a small, cozy place right by the river, which gives it a nice vibe. The food was decent—not surprisingly good, but the portions were pretty big. Overall, it’s not a bad place to stop by if you’re in the area and looking for a simple, quiet breakfast.

The seating area is rather small and my group of 6 had to split up. The seats are also quite low and not very suitable for tall people. We have been here tonight after not being biggest fan of the food in the hotel and this place was great. Around 15 minute wait to get in but that's fine and worth it and staff kept coming out and getting people in as quick as possible Food was amazing and generous portions, service was really nice and prices more than reasonable. Some headed straight to the train station, while others made their way to the onsen. We decided to have dinner first. The shop was already bustling when we arrived. Fortunately, we were seated at an empty table. There was also counter seating, but it offered less space for food and definitely wasn’t suitable for groups. The interior design was modern, with plenty of light and generous space between seats. I couldn’t take my eyes off a small corner near the front door, decorated with all sorts of Japanese trinkets and even a little fish tank. We placed our orders: classic gyoza sets and a variant gyoza dish. My set included seven pieces of fried gyoza, white rice, miso soup, and a garnish of vegetables. The fried gyoza were large and firm, with soft skin that was crispy on one side. The filling—pork and vegetables—had a satisfying sweetness and umami. I finished all of them before moving on to the rice and miso. Nothing beats a bowl of pure white rice and some salty miso on a cool evening. The extra gyoza we ordered were also fried but had a hard shell, with sweet sauce poured over them. I didn’t enjoy these as much, as the sauce overpowered the flavor of the gyoza. Overall, this restaurant is a great choice for just about any time of day. Its close proximity to the cable car station is a big plus. Just remember to close the door when you leave.

Very tasty restaurant with wide menu of different types of gyoza dumplings. It’s nice that they offer boiled and fried options as well as soups with gyoza. I can truly recommend boiled gyoza soup, for the rainy day it was a really convenient option. Kimchi ramen with fried gyoza was tasty as well but I think it would taste better with boiled gyoza. Close to Gora Station and open air museum :)

I’ve been coming here for over 40 years. Every time I come to Hakone I eat here at least once if not more. The original shop burned down unfortunately, but the new shop is bigger so it’s a little easier to get in, but it’s still a local legend, so make sure to get here a little bit before opening time if you want to guarantee a quick seat. My favorite is the Tebasaki Gyoza-gyoza filling stuffed into a chicken wing and deep fried. So hot, crispy and juicy with just a touch of salt on the outside. Squeeze some fresh lemon on it and it’s superb!

I had dinner in the restaurant and despite the waiters with the uniform and the location, the service and restaurant are nothing right. I have allergy to lactose and the waiter was not understanding english, nor knowing what is inside the food they serve. Despite the menu indicates gluten free and vegan meals, the waiter reported the food was with milk. Clearly she is not knowledgeable enough to avoid clients to feel bad for what they eat. Also, i asked what was the mix of 7 grilletto vegetables and she did not know. None serve the bread to me or asked if i wanted the dessert. Definetely a cloth does not signify anything. You can be elegant but you don't know the rules of your job.

Fab hotel experience; only stayed a few nights, whilst touring Hakone and Mitanishita. Fab eel restaurant round the corner and an equally fab open air spa. Spa water in the bathrooms was good, though I personally preferred the spa water filled communal bath which at the time was in the basement.

Great food, amazing service, good for value, more of a high tea experience for the classy people out there, it’s such a great vibe, the customer service is on point and the food was just right! All the history behind the artwork and interior design of walls and ceilings give you a sense of comfort and joy! Highly recommend for the French cuisine lovers. Food was well presented. Flavours were amazing!

The hotel is an old school lovely classy hotel and the staff are very nice. The reason my review is not higher is because the Fujiya restaraunt inside the hotel had some serious flaws. The portions are microscopic. I ordered 4 dishes and none of them were very good. I had to sit at the table and wait way too long to be brought the next dish even though it was empty. For such an upscale place I expected better food and better service in the restaraunt. Go to Mori- Meshi a tiny local spot for better food and service. 5 minute walk from the hotel and will cost 1/20 of the hotel Restaraunt.

The particular waitress I had could have been more attentive especially to bring the next dish smoothly after the first one was completed - was a noticeable lag where the finished plates were just sitting on the table and was waiting for the next one for some time even though it was not that busy

Finished hiking in nearby hill and happened to came cross this gem. Stopped here for lunch at their French Restaurant, not sure if they have any but it's Michelin star level experience. Will definitely stay next time I Hakone.

This is probably one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in, and I'd strongly recommend going somewhere else. The rooms are hideously outdated, the beds extremely uncomfortable, the food bad and very very over-priced. The whole place is in desperate need of a complete overhaul.

Wow the BEERS they are so great! Some of the best I have in Japan! So many awesome varieties plus they have TACOS!!!! The pork ones are top notch absolutely amazing I think i had 5. The fries are great aswell! If going to the outdoor open.air museum I highly recommend you stop. It is very small maybe 10 seats total and a small standing area. I highly recommend checking this out!!!!

Best sushi we have had so far in Japan! Everything was delicious, high quality, and so flavorful. Staff spoke English, which made ordering very easy for those who aren’t locals. The restaurant had a good atmosphere and cocktails were great too! Highly, highly recommend!!

We managed to get a walk in spot at around 5pm and got seated straight away. Staff were friendly and sitting at the counter watching the chefs work is a fun experience. There is a large floor to ceiling window that is a great backdrop. Food was excellent and drinks were good.

Great try. As someone who is much into beer I can recommend this restaurants since it has a nice aura. The service was fasts and the food was very good. The sushi and sashimi kitchen is in front of the table where the bar is located. It was not too loud but that can depend on weather and time

Amazing!! This restaurant made for a delightful evening and you could tell the staff was having fun even on a busy night. We got the lamb, the Moon Lover session ipa (10/10 beer), some mochi ice cream dessert, and left incredibly happy and satisfied. Easy to get to, top tier service, exceptional food. I can't wait to come back!

I got the matcha mojito but I do wish I would have gotten the beer flight instead. We ordered a few small plates and all were so delicious and we had good service. We enjoyed the atmosphere and watching them cook with a beautiful garden in the background. They have a foot bath but it was so cold and rainy we didn't want to be outside. We loved this place, I wish I could go back!!

Dining here was a fantastic experience from start to finish. While the entire meal was delicious, the A4 wagyu was the undisputed highlight. It was perfectly cooked and incredibly tender with a rich flavor that exceeded expectations. The entire restaurant felt special and the panoramic view from the bar created a beautiful, serene atmosphere that made the food and drinks even more enjoyable. On the beverage side, the stout was a standout. This is definitely a place I'd recommend for both the food and the ambiance.

Only tried the curry bread. It was delicious!! Everything else was a bit pricey. This was the only bakery open early

During our visit to Hakone on 26th April, we decided to make a pit stop at Bakery & Sweet Picot for a quick lunch before our departure to Tokyo. The day was marked by rain, adding a certain charm to the experience. Nestled in a cozy and serene setting, this bakery shop stood out, offering a delectable selection of pastries and desserts that truly delighted our senses.

As a big fan of curry. I absolutely approve of this curry bun 😌 crispy outer bun with rich aromatic curry, the ratio of curry to bread couldn’t be better. It’s also a good spot to relax and enjoy the pace in Hakone. The indoor music provides a relaxing mood too.

A bakery that’s connected to Fujiya hotel. The curry bread was really good. It’s not too expensive so if you’re there then definitely try what they have.

Bakery food was delicious and I did enjoy it.

If you're looking for some grub after checking out Hakone Shrine or while waiting for the crowd at the Heiwa no Torii (Torii of Peace) to die down, walk abit ahead and you'll find a nice little cafe with a great view of Lake Ashi. Had their egg souffle omurice from their lunch menu that day and was very satisfied. Super wobbly and all fluffy on the inside. Mixing it all up made for an interesting omurice that had a light and airy texture but still rich in flavour. Their signature apple pie was also nice; plated very elaborately and paired very well with a scoop of ice cream.

Flirt with the waves from Lake Ashi, or write a poem for the mountains around her. Don’t forget to eat the apple pie you asked for. Loved the place - patisserie is delicious, very good coffee and a big selection of loose leaf tea. Serving is very posh - very much like typical high tea. Place is located just at the lake side and by the clear day you have a view on Mount Fuji - has a parking or a 5minute walk from Hakone shrine

Visited 3 November 2023 Had a beautiful afternoon tea at the Salon de the Rosage on our first day at Hakone. We arrived at Hakone around 3pm from Takayama and didnt get to have lunch. Decided to have afternoon tea as we were staying across the road at the Hotel De Yama. My friend and I both ordered the apple pie which was the house specialty. The waitress did the syrup art in front of us and we each got a different display of the sauce. Apple pie was delicious and the lake view was beautiful. Weather was perfect for outdoor seating.

A relaxing tea and a bite to go along with it, with a view second to none. A little on the expensive side, but well worth it for the experience. The apple tart is exceptional, and I can recommend the cheese cake as well.

No-frills place with solid food. The hamburger steak was good, and the prices are pretty well in line with the area. The atmosphere/Toy Story decor is the best part, as I’m mostly writing this review so I can post this picture of Mr. Potato Head looking ominous

Toy story themed restaurant that makes fusion food. The taste was decent, nothing out of the ordinary. They don't have WiFi and only accept cash payment. Dropping one star for the cleanliness. Their toilet was the dirtiest I've seen in Japan so far. The staff also came across as impolite. She had the "I don't care" tone in her voice.

Food was delicious and fast. Service was very friendly. Beer was good and I loved the wooden mug. Good prices too. Great spot to grab a feed after the open air museum.

Food was surprisingly very nice! Although the english menu seems oversimplified and unclear, we decided to ordered their kimchi salad -which comes with rice and tastes more like korean bibimbap with a twist of a very tender & delicious burger patty-, and a chicken curry which also surpassed my expectation. All in all, I highly recommend ordering their burger patty, top notch!

A must visit place! Absolutely delicious food the best western style food ive had in the past 3+ weeks of travelling Japan. Very tasty burger and at a good price Atmosphere was great too they had note pads previous customers had done little doodles and art in which was very fun to browse. Also had a fun wood ascetic and nice drinks 10/10 if you want a burger in Japan go there! I recommend the cheese one was very flavorful

We stopped by here after going to the Open Air Museum. It’s a tiny, adorable restaurant with an awesome lady running it! The Toy Story memorabilia were so cute. My husband got the loco moco and I got the Hakone cheeseburger and they were both generous portioned and delicious. So glad we stopped by. Cash only.

The lady is super nice and attentive. She runs the whole thing by herself! Burgers are delicious...perfect to come before or after the open air museum. Decoration inside is super cute.

The cold soba during summer was very refreshing. The noodles were chewy and nicely paired with the soy dipping sauce. I wanted an extra serving of soba unfortunately they didn't offer that service. The service was fast and courteous at the same time. It was amazing to see the old aunties whizzing around the restaurant serving every table. Beautiful atmosphere with a traditional Japanese design.

My husband and I came here after a day exploring Hakone and we just loved it. We ordered the cold soba with shrimp tempura. The soba was delicious. The dipping sauce was fantastic as well! I loved the tempura which I also enjoyed with the sauce and it was wonderful. The staff were very kind also!

Amazing place for udon and soba, recommended by our tour guide. Prawn tempura is huge, and Oyakodon set meal is such a huge portion with the Udon they gave on the side.

We had launch in Tatame mode, pretty uncomfortable if you’re not used to eat sitting with your legs crossed, but it’s still an experience to do. The service is quick and friendly. The food however is not as good as expected: the large shrimps, although “large”, very well breaded, but I’m not a fan of the taste, they seemed lacking a sauce or a garniture that overcomes the fried oil taste. The Miso soup was excellent, and the rice was well cooked.

Touristy but was very decent. Had the tempura soba set for 1900 yen. Prawn was huge and soba was tasty. I really enjoyed the tempura - was really crunchy... But some people (traditionalists) may not like it as it's not the standard style tempura which is more fluffy. Prices are high but what you get for the money is fair.

Ordered two hot sobas with ebi + veggies and prawn only. Prawns were huge and the batter didnt feel over greasy. Soba and the soup stock were decent. Second floor has fantastic view of the lake, but we didnt get to sit there.

I contacted this restaurant weeks before I visited the place, and the owner was so helpful, even with my limited Japanese. The experience I had when my family and I were there was great. We loved the foods, and the waitress was so helpful in explaining each dishes on the menu. Certainly will go there again if I was in the area.

With the Hakone pass, you have a great experience. After the cable car, you can take a lunch stop. It's a nice place that can get busy; upon entering, order your food right away, then wait a bit on the left. There’s quite a bit of choice, and you’ll receive your order fairly quickly before you board the sightseeing boat.

Don’t get the steak-small cheap cut of steak that’s overcooked. Omelette rice is okay (a little bland). Chicken skewer is fine same with sausage plate

We had a short but lovely lunch at Togendai View Restaurant right before boarding the Hakone pirate ship. The view from the restaurant is beautiful—Lake Ashi and the mountains in the distance made it feel like a scenic pause before the next adventure. The food was genuinely good—simple, fresh, and exactly what we needed. Staff were super friendly and helpful, and everything ran smoothly. Great little stop if you’re passing through Togendai Station and want something easy with a view.

I just had a quick sandwich but was super happy about the soy veggie option. It was slightly burned which made it even better for me. Loved it would actually come back just for it! The location is touristic and fast food style but that didn't bother me at all 😊

Great place for a spot of lunch if you’re waiting for your river cruise and like a good view. Prices aren’t unreasonable given the quality - upsized the stewed beef omurice which was generous with the rice, but could do better with the quantity of beef. That said, the 3 beef pieces were well stewed and tender. Sauce was good - could use a little more given the quantity of rice.

This place is very good. Is counter order food. but is very good. the spearing are very tasty and the burger is excellent. Keep in mind is not your regular burger (No Bun) both plates were served with side of small salad and rice. The burgeris served on a cheese sauce and the ribs with sausage and small side of veggies. Staff very helpful. overall great experience

Very good food to match the very good view! I would recommend to those who come too early for the boat to arrive. Its in a convenient spot to wait for the boat.

Tasty Japanese Yam dishes; super healthy and delicious. They also served draft beer (zero alcohol), bottled beer and Japanese Sake. Cosy atmosphere with a good view. There were quene when we get there around 2PM but it is worth the wait. Remember to get the quene number from machine upon arrival. Limited parking slots next to restaurant. There is a convenience store 50m again and I think there are more parking slots there.

there’s definitely a bit of a wait to get in, and we went a little later vs your typical lunch time. I don’t know if it was “worth it” necessarily, but I know I had the best tororo of my life here. You know that feeling where the food is so WHOLESOME and good that you can’t stop eating and you eat SO MUCH, but you don’t feel sick or disgusted with yourself because everything you had feels so healthy? So I don’t know for sure if this feeling is common but I definitely felt this way during my lunch here.

Maybe not the best tasting (although that's just a testament to the exquisite taste of other Japanese dishes), but definitely the best and most unique food experience we've had in Japan so far. Great atmosphere and service too with English menus and even a guide on how to eat. Recommended for any tourist passing by.

A place where you can eat yam dishes. We visited for lunch this time, but on weekends they are open from the morning and you can also order breakfast sets. They have a set menu for lunch, which is a good deal, so I recommend it. The set menu includes meat or fish as the main dish, or yam as the main dish, so you can choose according to your preference. The rice is barley rice and can be refilled so you can eat a full meal😋 It's in the middle of a mountain pass, so you can only get there by car or bus, but it's definitely worth a visit!

The food here will be for an acquired taste. But you should still come for the experience and the great view. The restaurant shop front is not particularly appealing and looks like a shed. But once you enter and walk down to the restaurant, you will be amazed by the picturesque view. Do try to make a reservation before coming for lunch. The hotel concierge should be able to help. We did not and have to wait about 25mins...a side note...parking is limited but it seems you can park your car at the seven eleven stall nearby. And by the way I highly recommend a visit to the seven eleven stall. A surreal setting of a seven eleven stall overlooking the mountainous terrain of hakone. And the stall is well stocked and very well maintained.

Nice restaurant to visit, having a very good view and good service. Food is really unique, I rate the taste as above average, cannot say it is very good. But if you like yam, it worth a try.

Make this your first or last stop at Hakone, it's really convenient to stop off here on the road, grab a bite, and continue on your way. For your first stop, you can get a lunch here with a view before checking in to your hotel.
