MarieBette Café and Bakery is a charming European-style eatery known for its exceptional pastries like brioche feuilletee and the original Prezzant, a pretzel-croissant hybrid. The café offers outdoor seating and serves breakfast, lunch fare, cakes, and on-the-go coffee. It's a popular spot for brunch with a light sit-down menu featuring baked eggs and sourdough breakfast sandwiches.
Everything from here is fantastic. I've visited many times. This time I tasted both my go-to everything bagel seasoned pastry pretzel and a seasonal king cake. The king cake had an almond that was so light and balanced and wasn't overly sweet. It was perfect. Highly recommend!

Perfect and delicious place for light breakfast & coffee- well, lattes. You can order a more robust & hearty breakfast, but we chose a variety of pastries - chocolate croissant, 2 other smaller ones (don’t recall names) and an apple tart. I wished that I would have taken photos of the beautiful decorated/stenciled in flour or powdered sugar breads & desserts- works of art! We got there just before the line had to moved outside, but it moved pretty quickly. We got our order to go, but we decided to sit down at a table that was available to enjoy it.
Melissa C — Google review
here are a few areas for outdoor seating and a small area inside for seating, as such, they were full and there was an hour wait for seating. We had time so we waited and it went much faster than expected. You order at the counter and get a number for your table. It is self-seating and no reservations. There's a separate nearby station which has silverware, condiments, and self-serve water. We ordered a London Fog, Latte, Almond Croissant, Parfait, Sharondale, and "Madame" (with an egg) Croquet Monsieur.

Great little coffee spot with French baked goods. Lots of croissants, sticky buns. I picked up a sourdough bread to take home. It was made fresh that day and was delicious with our Italian meal that night.

When I come to Charlottesville I always need to stop by MarieBette. Love this little café with its wonderful array of desserts. I must admit their cannelés are my weakness. Their quiches are delicious. I always leave with baguette, croissants, and a few other viennoiseries. Being French I can’t resist:) The atmosphere is great and the people working there are always helpful and kind. A must visit.

Perfect little specialty shop for coffee and baked treats. The caneles (pictured) are specifically what we stopped in to get while visiting Charlottesville. Also enjoyed a couple of iced coffees which complimented the pastries very nicely. The parking lot and pedestrian traffic stay pretty busy so be careful when pulling in or out of the lot.

The food was great for either quick stop or a sit down breakfast. Definitely recommend. Only complaint is that if it’s raining the said down space is limited.
Dilara D — Google review
By local American standards it's a pretty good place. By European standards this place is a disaster. Espresso was overroasted and waaaay too bitter. Pastry is passable.

Bakery
Albemarle Baking Co, also known as ABC, is a renowned bakery in Charlottesville that has been serving delectable homemade pastries, cakes, and European breads since 1995. The bakery's success lies in its commitment to excellence and offering unique baked goods that have garnered a loyal following. Located on Main Street, Albemarle Baking Co has expanded its space due to overwhelming community support.
Went on a Saturday morning, it was very full but the line moved quick. Almost everyone was taking to go so there would be plenty of seating to eat there. I had the harvest basket and it was amazing!

You must go!! Cool vibes and inviting atmosphere with amazing smells! I have been 2x and will be back the next time I am in the area! I had the princess cake, it was light, fluffy and delicious 😋

The staff was super nice. The pastries are delicious. The passion fruit tart was outstanding. I have dreams about it, was so good. The lemon tart looks really good too. If you can’t find some thing you like here then you don’t like good food! Stay home 🤤😍 Charlottesville’s premiere bakery.

I visited Albemarle Baking Co in Charlottesville today, and I honestly loved it! The place has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The service was excellent—every staff member was kind, caring, and made me feel truly appreciated as a customer. The food was also amazing—fresh, delicious, and clearly made with love. I really enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

The selection at this bakery is always fantastic. I have been here numerous times, and have never been disappointed with my selections. The prices are very reasonable - so much so that buying bread is cheaper than buying mass produced bread from the grocery store, and you get a much tastier and healthier bread. Also, the service staff are always very friendly, and very patient with my decision paralysis when faced with such a wide selection of treats.
Logan B — Google review
Nothing too notable. The sticky bun was made with croissant dough (good) but overbaked (bad). Bite into it and everything disintegrates and there's no pleasant chewiness but just flour flakes melting in your mouth. Focaccia is under baked and has no gluten development and very pale. Entremets were just okay
Ekin S — Google review
After living in Charlottesville for well over a decade, I can't believe I never left a review. This is by far the best bakery in the US that I have been to, and up there in the world. As graduate students, we had small orders, but they always left our order aside for use to come in later to pick up. Their desserts are to die for, and their baguettes and batons are better than some I've had in Paris. Their sour dough is hands down the best in town. They also seem active in the community. When I was in a local run marathon training group (shout out to ragged mountain), the owner was there. If you are traveling through town or a local, check them out if you haven't.

This is definitely our favorite bakery in Charlottesville ... maybe even Virginia. As a lifelong carb lover, I am obsessed with the bread here. I rarely have a sweet tooth, but I'm constantly craving all the sweet treats from this place! I think it's because nothing is sickly sweet and the ingredients are superior quality. I swear, I feel like I can practically taste the love. I think we're making a weekly stop to stock-up on goodies a new part of our routine.

HotCakes in Charlottesville, Virginia is a unique establishment that combines a bakery, salad bar, and gourmet store all in one place. Their carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and Black Forest cake with chocolate and cherries are local favorites. The venue also offers seasonal gourmet food, specialty coffees and teas, desserts, catering services, and more. Customers have praised the delicious pastries like the Napoleon for its flaky texture and generous filling.
I’ve been meaning to try HotCakes for a while and finally made it a priority in my search for the best matcha latte in Charlottesville. Now I’m kicking myself for taking so long to get there. Is this what you’d call a hidden gem or do the locals already know what’s up?! I feel like someone has been keeping this place a secret from me and now I’ll have to make up for all the time I’ve missed going here. It was about 30 minutes before closing when I went in, so I really only planned to get a drink and maybe one sweet treat. I hate making employees prepare food when they’re in the mode to start breaking stuff down and cleaning up. I immediately noticed how clean the space was as soon as I walked through the front door. There were a few people dining in and they were all spaced pretty far apart. They definitely have their Covid practices locked down! I was greeted by both employees right away and even though they were properly masked up, I could feel their smiles behind the masks. Winning, so far. I read online that they offer organic matcha, but I didn’t see it on the menu board. I was ready with a backup plan if they didn’t have it, but luck was on my side and I ordered a large matcha latte with oat milk. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to order a few prepared items from the display case as well; everything looked so daggone good. Here’s what I left with: hot matcha latte with oat milk, marinated fresh mozzarella (single portion), Eloise cupcake, tiramisu and holiday tetrazzini. I highly recommend every single thing I ordered. The matcha is QUALITY. It’s slightly sweetened with vanilla, but not overly so. I might try it unsweetened next time. I’ll definitely be trying it iced as well. I haven’t stopped craving that mozzarella since the minute I took the last bite. I could eat that as a side dish or app every day. It wasn’t overly oily like some marinated mozz can be. The flavor was herbaceous, but light enough to not be overwhelming and the tomatoes were A++! The holiday tetrazzini, chosen by my other half and mostly consumed by him, was pure comfort! They offered to heat it up for us, but we had some errands to run and waited until we got back. I’m sure you could put it in the oven or in a saucepan, but we zapped it in the microwave since we were staying in a hotel room and it was DELICIOUS! Super creamy, cheesy and the meat was very tender and flavorful. He’s been talking about it nonstop since he had it. The Eloise cupcake is so elegant. It was almost too pretty to eat. ALMOST. Gah! It tastes just as amazing as it appears. The cupcake is moist and has a creamy center and the icing is so light. It’s not sickly sweet, which means I ate it ALL. Sometimes there’s a pile of icing leftover when I’m done with a cupcake. Not this time. These would make a lovely gift for someone or great for a party when Covid is over. They’re beautiful and oh-so-tasty! Last, but definitely not least is that tiramisu. If this is one of your favorite desserts like it is mine, run to Hot Cakes Gourmet and get a slice!! OMG. It is everything I want in tiramisu. You can tell the espresso they use for the ladyfingers is quality. That flavor was spot on. The layers should’ve been a hint to me that it’s much bigger than it appears when you start eating it. Two of us shared a piece and there was a tiny smidge leftover for breakfast the next morning. If I hadn’t gobbled up that cupcake first, the tiramisu definitely would’ve been demolished. If you’re like me and you’ve passed by HotCakes, but you haven’t stopped in yet – it’s time to give ‘em a try! You can even order ahead for pickup or delivery through their website. I’ll be going back very soon to try some of those yummy looking sandwiches, salads, and of course more sweet treats.

I had a good experience here and would recommend it for others. I’m a big fan of a well-done pastry - which it’s hard to find a flaky, light, flavorful pastry done right. I had a Napoleon from here and it was very good. The glaze on top was not overpowering, and the pastry itself was flaky and delicious. It was difficult to put your fork through it, but the cream filling was done just right, and very generously. I also got their chocolate croissant which I recommend as well - it was one of the best ones I’ve had in a while ($4.99) (ask for it warmed!) I also got a latte, which could have been improved by getting more of the coffee/espresso flavor in there. It was overpowered by the milk, which is a pet peeve of mine. But they do have unique flavors like amaretto, Irish cream, and classic flavors like caramel and iced coffee. They also have (deliciously creamy) oat milk as a non-dairy option as well.

We ordered our wedding cake from HotCakes for our microwedding this October. I was a little worried about ordering it, since we weren't able to taste beforehand and correspond via email only. But I had absolutely nothing to worry about! Lisa works magic, paid close attention to detail, and not only was it beautifully decorated, it tasted AMAZING! We ordered a two chocolate-raspberry and everyone was praising how great it was. You could taste the real raspberries in the filling, and the cake itself was light and decadent. I was thoroughly impressed with how delicious and how beautiful it turned out - better than I had even imagined! Huge thank you to Lisa and her team. 5/5, easy!

Our office ordered several sandwiches and salad for a co-worker's baby sprinkle luncheon. Delivery was on time. We ordered a selection of Chicken Salad, Turkey-Bacon-Avocado, Caprese, Roast Beef and Ham & Swiss sandwiches and each one was delightful. Everyone loved them. Highly recommended!

Hot Cakes was able to accomplish the exact cake theme I wanted and it was absooutely delicious to boot! Did I mention that I contracted less than 2 weeks from my wedding? Extremely responsive. Couldn't have asked for a better wedding cake!

I ordered a delightful drink while waiting for a business meeting. The picture is of their drink, "the Nutella," a latte with hazelnut and home made chocolate. Oh, and my wife and I got our customized wedding cake here, too. 7/5 Stars

Paradox Pastry is a charming bakeshop and cafe located in the Warehouse District of Charlottesville. The relaxed atmosphere offers an urban vibe, making it a perfect spot to enjoy European baked goods, sandwiches, soups, croissants, and muffins. The owner's background includes attending cooking school in Paris and interning at an iconic bakery there. Known for their delightful pastries and custom-designed cakes, Paradox Pastry also serves light savory fare and biscuit sandwiches on their cafe menu.
AMAZING place to eat. We stopped in for breakfast one morning and it was great. The breakfast foods were good, but I think they could have been heated a little longer; mine was cold in the middle. My dad and I got chorizo burritos, my daughters got banana bread and a croissant, and my mother got a meat pie. All were delicious and I think of them frequently. The deserts I took home were fabulous. I tried the macaroons, the chocolate torte (gluten free, I believe), a few hand pies, and some other things I don’t remember the name of. I would eat them all again; everyone loved them. The staff was super friendly and for the quality of food, the prices were fair. Thanks guys!
Shelby S — Google review
If they had flavored syrups to add to coffee and espresso, I would have given it 5 stars. They unfortunately only have unflavored coffee drinks with simple syrup (just sugar) if you request it. Of course, if you’re coming for the pastries alone - 5 stars! That being said, the coffee was delicious - I got a regular iced latte with simple syrup. I also got the breakfast croissant (egg, cheese, and sausage), which was delicious - much better than I’d expect from a coffee shop and I’d highly recommend. Well-seasoned, lots of flavors, and filling for the price ($4.75). They also have a very nice selection of pastries, sandwiches, muffins, and cookies as well. I also recommend the Fresh Fruit Crostada - it’s a fairly dense, sweet pastry with almond/lemon flavors, and topped with fruit of choice (strawberry). Atmosphere is 5 stars. If you can find parking (which is difficult without paying), I’d recommend staying a while. They have 2 stories, outlets for each table, outdoor seating, and the indoor seating has a huge window that they keep open when the weather is nice. That allows for extra ventilation especially during COVID times. Definitely recommend stopping by!

I got hooked on the multigrain triple berry muffin. So good. Loaded with berries and the combination of corn meal and whole grains was perfect. The staff are cheerful and the owner is welcoming and fun.

This cute piece of a gem was recommended by the owner of Foytnik when we visited Charlottesville this week for an anniversary getaway. Since it’s just across the street, my hubby and I tried it. The rhubarb and strawberry loaf slice was super moist and we definitely tasted the rhubarb and strawberries. Then maple cream puff pastry was to die for. It smelled amazing! It was filling and not overwhelmingly sweet. Lastly, the chocolate brownie was heaven in a square. It was moist, rich, and luxurious! I would definitely check this place again when I go back to Charlottesville!!!
Maria R — Google review
The strawberry rhubarb pie was out of this world!! The biscuits & gravy and the latte were alright but nothing to write home about. Since no one else was inside except the pleasant staff, I sat in the upstairs seating area to eat (at least half my biscuits-- I took most home!). The team was blasting only T Swift and while it might not be everyone's cup of tea, I had a sweet time sitting and enjoying.

Delicious display of pastries right as you enter. Savory quiches, fruit tarts, cookies, cakes, and so much more. Intimate on the inside with seating next to the counter if you want to go back for more as well as upstairs. Large front patio with tables and chairs if the weather is nice, though it could use some shadier options. Flavors were wonderful, but when heating up a quiche and a strata, it could have used longer in the oven. Warm outside but cold middle. Had a few gluten free options as well.

Per recommendation from a friend, I reached out to Paradox Pastry for 2 last minute cakes. I had never been but had heard good things so hoped for the best. They were super helpful over the phone to ensure that I was getting what I wanted and made it extremely easy. Day of pick up came. I stopped in first thing in the morning and they automatically treated you like family. Super helpful, very nice, and right away had me taken care of, giving me all the information I needed. And if the service wasn't amazing enough .. the cakes were PHENOMENAL! I had gotten the apple butter spice cake and the chocolate Guinness stout. The amount of compliments received on the cakes were more than I could have ever imagined. And to be honest, I'm not a big sweets person and definitely not a cake person but they COMPLETELY changed that. Highly recommend. From start to finish it was an amazing experience. Thank you Paradox Pastry for really making the party a success

Citizen Burger Bar is a popular dining spot in Charlottesville, Virginia that prides itself on serving top-quality burgers and offering an extensive selection of craft beers. The restaurant emphasizes using locally sourced ingredients, including buns from local bakeries, grass-fed beef, and Virginia cheese. While the wait for a table may be long, the house salad with fresh ingredients like grilled chicken and bacon is worth it. In addition to their renowned burgers, the restaurant also offers a variety of legendary salads.
I was on a mission to find the best burger in Charlottesville, and Citizen Burger Bar came up as the top pick—and wow, it absolutely lived up to the hype. Everything about our visit was fantastic. The star of the show was the Citizen Burger itself: stacked with fresh, flavorful ingredients and topped off with a crispy fried pickle that was a delicious surprise. I swapped out the fries for onion rings, and it was totally worth it—perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of downtown Charlottesville, on the pedestrian mall full of charm, energy, and people-watching. It really captures the vibe of the town and the university. One huge bonus: they’re extremely dog-friendly. They brought out a big bowl of cold water for our two pups without us even asking—such a thoughtful touch! My wife ordered the beet salad and loved every bite. We also appreciated the cold bottle of water left at the table to keep our glasses topped off—small detail, but it made the whole experience feel that much more relaxed and attentive. From start to finish, this was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we’ve had in a while. Great food, awesome atmosphere, and top-notch service. Highly recommend—easily a five-star spot!

I am *very* picky about cleanliness so take what I say with a grain of salt. The food is fantastic, best burger I've ever had (and I've had a lot of them), however I found the place to be a bit unhygienic. The bathroom sinks have stuff in them, we got given a plate with a few visible fragments of food, and there was a bartender sneezing all over the bar for a good 10 minutes, and they were covering their mouth with their hand, and even then didn't quite succeed to cover it every time. If you're sneezing more than a few times, please leave areas where food/drink is prepared :) With all that being said, even though all of that pushes me away, I would still give this place another chance in the future simply because I had the best burger I've ever had here. Good job chefs :)

If you’re looking for a great high-quality burger, this is the spot for you! The Steakhouse Burger was delicious, and the beef was cooked just right and not overly greasy. I got a custom burger with the garlic aioli, which I’d definitely order again. The sides, especially the sweet potato fries, hit the spot. The location is on the main strip, and has outdoor seating.

Cool looking burger joint in downtown Charlottesville, VA. We opted to eat outside because the weather was great. The service was decent but our fries were forgotten, which was probably a good thing, since the custom burger and grilled cheese we got were pretty pricey.
Jessie C — Google review
The staff is friendly and while the wait for a table can be short the bar is normally open except for Friday and Saturday. The Mushroom and Swiss burger is good but the deep fried fries that come with most burgers really taste of the old style of cooking. The Sailor Jerry rum and coke is a fair bit better than a captain and coke. If you can make it for the happy hour or lunch you will find it worth the trip. Large screens for sports sit up on the wall behind the long bar.

We stopped here on our way through Charlottesville.... It was an easy place to find seating, the service was outstanding and the food was great. Definitely try this place out when you are in town!

Our party of 4 went to Citizen Burger Bar on a Saturday afternoon after strolling through downtown Cville. We got hungry, smelled yummy food and decided to grab some burgers. The other place we wanted to go to was packed, so we went to CBB instead, which turned out to be a mistake. We should have waited at the other burger joint instead. I am giving the food 3 stars because the fries were really good. Regular, cheesy and sweet potato, all of them were crispy and delicious. Not too salty, not too oily, just what we love. The burgers and sandwiches were meh. Mediocre at best. I had the Hotness and it was very greasy. The patty was overcooked and dry, the brioche was dry, the onions were too thick and chewy. I didn't finish it and that's something I never do. I always finish my burger if it's good. The grilled cheese tasted like plastic. The chicken sandwich was better but it had way too much mayo, the onion rings were huge and the bacon was practically nonexistent. The birthday cake slice was huge, but tasted old and stale. We paid over $100 for food and drinks and left hungry. Our waiter took forever to take our order and even more time to bring it out. I had to waive twice to ask him to come to our table to finally ask for the bill. The waitress at the table next to us was super nice, professional and fast. Ours was a disaster. On top of his speed, he smelled like weed and the music was annoyinly loud. I'm 100% sure we will not return to CBB again. Such a shame because it looks like a nice place.

New American restaurant
Burtons Grill & Bar is an upscale chain known for its stylish dining rooms and extensive menu of American cuisine with a global twist. The restaurant is highly regarded for its allergy-friendly practices, including strict protocols, well-trained staff, and special attention to allergies in online ordering and takeout. One of their must-try dishes is the Mediterranean Chicken Risotto, featuring pan-seared chicken, artichoke hearts, roasted tomatoes, spinach, basil, feta, lemon butter sauce and pesto.
Worth the reservation needed (recommended)!!! Our server, "Kelly P", was polite and very attentive. The steak was cooked to requested color, and the short rib grilled cheese was amazing! Highly recommend Burtons and would say it's worth a stop even if your final destination isn't Charlottesville.

I was a little hesitant because of the prices and how expensive this restaurant is, but oh boy am I glad we took the chance! Not only was there seating outside, away from the busyness of, which was beautiful on this almost Summer evening but they made sure I could get through in my wheelchair! The waitress was so sweet and kind and made sure to take note of any allergies and sensitivities food wise, which is amazing when you’re in a restaurant with many dishes. The entrees were so delicious and filling, but even the appetizers and sides were beyond delicious. Both my partner and I fell in love with each bite we took. It was well worth the money we spent. Last but not least, they made it so easy to get our check. They have a machine they can bring to the table that you can use your card with! Easy and simple. I would definitely love to come back here

Stopped here for lunch and we were very pleased. Our food was delicious and our server was friendly and attentive. They have a full bar, beautiful ambiance, clean restrooms, outdoor seating, plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant.

Nice restaurant to stop for a weekend dinner, the staff was extremely nice. A special highlight here for Aliana, who went above and beyond to ensure that my mother and I had a great outing. Her customer service was top notch, her helpful suggestions were taken and appreciated, and she was sure to check in to make sure we were having the best time. You can't do better than personable staff like her! The food was really good as well and came out in good time. Overall, the pricing reflects the elevated menu options, but it is worth a weekend treat or a special event. I would definitely come back and request Aliana by name.

16 top was a bit much for one server. Food hit the table "sporadically". The guest of honor was the last to receive food so we all just sat there waiting. Overall... Everyone liked their food. My burger was a little over cooked and the fries were garbage. Thankfully they didn't give me much of them. (Son's too.) Drinks sat empty. Water was finally dropped off. More bar drinks could have been sold if they actually checked on the table. Over all... Not bad, not great. Would stop in... But no real reason too.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant with my wife. As a person with many food allergies, our server, Emma, gave me the best service I have ever received regarding my dietary restrictions. It never felt like a bother to her, and she made sure any dish I had questions on she had ample information about it. We are so thankful to have visited such an allergy-friendly place with delicious food. When in the area, we will come again!

First time coming and the server was helpful. She said they pride themselves on accommodating to food allergies. The buffalo chicken dip and NY steak was delicious. The lighting was a little dark in there.

Holidays represent times that lots of people get out of the house and take road trips to explore new places. And that's exactly what I did at Burton's! This lovely restaurant in Charlottesville had a welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food! The meal was top notched. Great job in the kitchen! Before we began our meal, I asked that we be seated at a booth table, which the hostess readily obliged. As we sat, the hostess then seated several young people directly beside our table, and the grown and luxurious atmosphere turned into boisterous loud talking and laughing. It completely changed my intimate dinner plans with my guest. This was not the type of " mistake " I expected from a restaurant of this caliber.

Mellow Mushroom Charlottesville is a funky and art-filled pizzeria located conveniently on the Corner. It offers creative stone-baked pizzas, craft beer, and calzones in a hippy-inspired ambiance, making it a great spot for group outings. The restaurant hosts events like 'Trivia Night' on Wednesdays and 'Pint Night' on Tuesdays with affordable pitcher deals. Despite being fairly greasy, Mellow Mushroom serves impressive pizza pies, especially considering it's a national chain.
Absolutely epic pizza! Worth the trip to Charlottesville alone, what a great spot. We ordered a couple of large pizzas, and each was two halves of one of their specialty pizzas so we got to try 4 pizzas essentially which was terrific. The Holy Shitake was possibly the best version of any mushroom pizza I've ever had. The caramelized onions just distinguish this pizza, the sweetness and tenderness in the onions is tremendous. There's a delicious olive oil and garlic base with roasted shiitake, button and portobello mushrooms, and mozzarella. Then the aged Wisconsin Aged White Cheddar cheese, fresh chives, and garlic aioli swirl and a spritz of black truffle oil accent this pizza remarkably well. Just superb. Super Pepp starts with their red sauce base and is topped with mozzarella, loaded with pepperoni, tangy peppers, topped with generous dollops of seasoned ricotta cheese and a swirl of hot honey. I got it with some optional jalapenos and it was epic. Kosmic Karma was made with red sauce, spinach, roasted tomatoes, mozzarella, fresh Roma tomatoes, crumbled authentic sheep’s milk feta cheese, and a generous pesto swirl. Absolutely delicious as well. Last but not least, Merry Prankster has a herb aioli base, chicken, Italian sausage, garlic roasted red peppers, green bell peppers, mozzarella, Wisconsin aged white cheddar, and a key herb aioli drizzle. Another phenomenal pie. Salad we ordered was lackluster but they remedied it kindly. Service was superb, whole staff was really friendly and helpful. Great artwork, funky vibe, and cozy booths make for a fun and unique dining experience.

Very good food. We got a pepperoni pizza, the great white pizza and started with the pretzel bites. The pretzel bites came out hot and the dipping sauce, the classic, was a perfect match to the pretzels. Serving size was for 2-3 people. I didn’t try the pepperoni, but the other person in my party said it was superb. The great white was very good, too. I got the small (10”) and that was more than I could eat coupled with the appetizer. I also asked for no tomatoes on it. Our server, Olivia, was excellent. She was pleasant, smiling and attentive. She asked if I needed a refill without me having to ask and before my drink was empty. The atmosphere was nice and the front of the house was clean. Definitely felt like a place that caters to the college crowd. I absolutely recommend the place and will return if I’m ever in Charlottesville again.

Awesome food. You can't get any better pizza and salad. Our service a little slower than we would have liked, but our server was being overloaded with other tables. Had to wait for refills on our drinks. Not the worst thing in the world. However, she (our Server) was extremely personable and friendly. The atmosphere was good. I would definitely eat here again, but not on game day.

Best pizza! Hands down. I live in Albany NY I was in VA for work and we ended up here because of the mushroom pizza. Hands down best pizza I’ve ever had

Mellow Mushroom catered a pizza and salad meal for 30 people attending a family reunion at Fairfield Inn and Suites. We had both Gluten free and Vegetarian requests in addition to regular options. The portions of salad and pizza were very large and more than adequate. People said it was the best pizza they had ever eaten. The manager worked with me ahead of time to plan our order and pay in advance. Delivery was exactly on time. The order was perfect with no errors. Pizza was hot and salad fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend Mellow Mushroom for catering a large group event with varied dietary needs. Many thanks to them for helping make our family reunion a big success!

I’m addicted to mellow mushroom pizza. Anytime I see a mellow mushroom, I have to stop. This was a great experience with awesome service and three incredible pizza pies. I don’t understand how a chain can be so consistent and so good. I highly recommend the Cuban pizza. The mustard sauce was shockingly delightful.

Great little pie and coffee shop. Their latte has great texture, chocolate hazelnut pie is a bit sweet, but delicious, and their savory mushroom leek gruyere pie is just right, though takes 15 minutes to warm up.

We ordered a whole strawberry rhubarb pie and a mix and match pie which was half peanut butter, a quarter coconut cream and another quarter pecan. Non of them really did it for me. The peanut butter and coconut really lacked a depth of flavor. The crust on all of them was so soggy it was hard to cut and get a bite with a fork. I will add this is picking them up and eating same day. The strawberry rhubarb was ok. But even then all the crumble on top was overly soggy and not beautifully crisp. Two pies of mediocre quality for $65..... yeah I'll pass next time.

Such a cute, quaint coffee and pie shop! Service was really nice, my first time here and those who were up front were patient and suggested some great options! FIREFLY Restaurant + Game Room is a trendy hangout located in the Belmont neighborhood, offering creative tavern eats and a full bar. The restaurant caters to various dietary restrictions, including gluten-free and vegan options, making it an ideal spot for families with kids and even dog owners as their patio is pet-friendly. Housed in an old warehouse on Carlton Avenue, this eclectic eatery boasts a relaxed vibe and is known for its green specialties.
This place has a lot going for it. They have seating outside on a deck and more outback in a patio area with picnic tables. The food is good, and I recommend the hamburger. I do wish they had regular fries in addition to tater tots. One of the most unique aspects is their level of pet friendliness. The waitress brought us out a bowl of water, and they even have a menu just for pets. Kaia Blue recommends the grilled chicken. The game room was a nice touch with a mix of a few retro games and a decent selection of newer pinball games. I do wish the pinball games were a bit cheaper, say 50 cents and not a dollar, to keep the fun going longer, and get more people playing.
Richard N — Google review
The arcade set-up and bingo night are great editions to the overall atmosphere. However, the service was simply okay, employees did not seem particularly enthusiastic about being present, and the waitress wasn't particularly attentive to our party. Food was okay; lots of potential for the location, but not somewhere I would come back and spend money at currently.

Unique restaurant with fun atmosphere. The food is super fresh. So glad to find many vegan options. Tots are good, desserts are creative. A fun assortment of classic arcade machines and even board games. They want you stay so go hang inside or on the porch. Anyone and everyone welcome!

I had the steak sandwich. It was good, better than average. My wife had the pulled chicken sandwich that was amazing good! I can confirm as I had a generous bite. I was able to play the Rush pinball machine and play Galaga with my son. I was disappointed by the Chocolate Mousse cake, which has a very weak chocolate flavor and a strong cinnamon flavor. Wouldn’t order again.

Food was great , however we never got our kids food and we checked on it. Ours beers never got refilled and the side we order never came. Went to check myself and they had the kids food ready for a bit , however lacked a ticket so was never delivered . We ended up sharing our plates with the kids and we left. They have an anti freedom sign out as well. Which references the Virginia law that you can't carry without a concealed permit which has nothing to do with no.guns allowed but it says no guns allowed. Glad to know you can't protect yourself here . Save yourself the trip and find another place that has better service and isn't against allowing citizens to protect themselves.

Very friendly staff. Neat atmosphere and delicious food! They had a huge vegan menu and could make most things gluten free too. Insects, rustling in the leaves and undergrowth, give evidence of springtime waking up around here. It's a good time to visit Iron Paffles & Coffee, where creative puff-pastry waffles with savory and sweet fillings are served. Affordable prices, friendly staff, limited seating - all add up to a great experience at this charming little spot.
First we will start with my daughter who got the "I don't know" from the kids menu. She is a picky eater but she described her chicken as the right amount of salt, seasoning and crispiness. She said the maple syrup add a tasty sweetness to her chicken and her flaky fun paffle. For the adults we enjoyed our breakfast and vegan paffles. I had the vegan with Mac n cheese and there was plenty of filling and the fried tofu was delicious. I read a review that stated it's gets messy. It does but well worth the taste and experience. Would definitely visit again!
Dorinda R — Google review
Visiting C-Ville and tried this place for breakfast. Puff pastry waffles?! Its AMAZING!!! Light and flaky! This was a million times better than the free hotel breakfast up the road. I got the breakfast paffle with baked Egg, Avocado, Tomato, Spring Mix, and Aioli plus I added chicken sausage for the extra protein 💪🏼. I also stole a bite of my wife’s fried paffle which had fried chicken and honey. Both were insanely good! My only complaint is this place isn’t in my home town. See you again Iron Paffle the next time we are in the area.

My husband and I went here for the first time today and loved everything about the experience! The food is delicious and fairly priced, the atmosphere is chill, and the staff members are inviting. Amanda, the manager, is knowledgeable about the menu and an absolute delight. I highly recommend you patronize this establishment!

First visit, absolutely delicious. Nashville Chicken Paffle, a tofu option as well. The team down here is crushing it, and I don't even like waffles but it was oh soooop good, a nice fluffy and slightly crisp waffle. If you never been, it's an absolute must try. You won't be disappointed.

Anytime I am in Charlottesville I think of this place and had the pleasure of visiting on multiple occasions. It smells great as soon as you walk in the door and they have plenty of savory or sweet options. Great place for breakfast or lunch. I got to enjoy the Nashville hot paffle this last time. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly the Paffles are so flaky and delicious and it brought the heat. I highly recommend

Charlottesville has been a celiac delight and Iron Paffles & Coffee is a large part of the reason! There is a dedicated fryer, a dedicated waffle iron, and almost everything on the menu can be made celiac safe/gluten free. I had a breakfast sandwich with hash browns, bacon & siracha aioli - amazing. We also ordered a canoli waffle and it was just as good. My husband ordered the non-GF Paffle and wont stop talking about how good it was. I can’t wait to come back here!
Katherine H — Google review
The fried chicken with mac paffle is absolutely delish🔥This was my first time trying Iron Paffles and let’s just say I’m so damn glad I did. I’m not even exaggerating, it’s that good! Definitely coming back here someday.
Jewel A — Google review
The ordering process is kind of weird and very impersonal. If its your first time there like it was for me then good luck cause youre on your own! Pretty gimmicky in my opinion. The paffles got soggy quickly no matter what you put on it. If you order your sandwich with any compote on it then they put a malicious amount on and only have small bar napkins. Neither of our cheeses were melted. For two "build your own" breakfast sandwiches we ended up spending $33 total even though we each got maybe 3-4 things on each sandwich. This could be executed much better in so many ways. Disappointing!

Great Harvest Bakery & Cafe is a delightful haven for bread lovers, specializing in artisanal whole-grain breads and muffins crafted from premium Montana wheat. Each day, the bakery comes alive as they handcraft their signature loaves using simple, high-quality ingredients like fresh-ground whole wheat, yeast, salt, and honey. The aroma of freshly baked goods greets you at the door with complimentary slices offered to every visitor.
If you are anywhere near Charlottesville VA, you should stop at the Great Harvest Bread Co. They are so much more than a “bakery”. They actually mill their own flour and wheat on a mill stone (from wheat berries so it’s as fresh as it can possibly be ) so the consumer gets the cleanest and freshest products possible. The 100% whole grain oatmeal cookies are worth every cent. You won’t find better. The raspberry cream cheese scuffin is also a must. The Monkey bread is in a tin, you just pull off the plastic, put it in the oven and devour the results. If you don’t stop in here, you’ll regret it.

Cinnamon chip bread for french toast! Stopped in for a "2nd chance" kind of thing to find out there are new owners. The place looks incredible! Everything tastes FRESH. I couldnt wait to go back. Each week, the new owners have been there every time I've stopped in. The place is busy and happy. We now order from here for our monthly staff meetings. 10/10 highly recommend anything coming out of the building! We've had several breads, scones, muffins, brownies, sandwiches.....all incredible!

The owners (I think they were the owners, or just very passionate staff) are beyond kind and stuffed us with delicious samples while we waited for our sandwiches! They seem very passionate about their baking and were explaining the different options to us. The sandwiches were very healthy. I eat vegetarian so I opted to get one of their hot grilled cheese without turkey, so the person making my sandwich kindly added extra veggies since I wasn’t getting turkey. The baked goods are all very freshly made (you can see them making fresh breads). I highly recommend coming here, especially if you run on the Butterfly Greenway, this is a nice stop afterwards for food.

We absolutely LOVE Great Harvest in C’Ville! Every time we visit they’ve got amazing free samples and we always end up getting a new loaf of bread, sandwich or sweet treat. The staff is super friendly and they offer great recommendations on how to enjoy our bread even more at home. The cinnamon chip French toast was a game changer!

My roast beef sandwich was delicious… a few things to make it amazing. More horseradish sauce on the sandwich or a extra serving on the side. I ordered and paid for extra roast beef… when I got my sandwich I thought if I didn’t get and pay for extra meat it would be very disappointing. Perhaps add something extra for no charge like a bag of chips or cookie because $21 for a sandwich and a soda was a lot

Nestled in a charming shopping center, Cou Cou Rachou is a delightful French patisserie that celebrates the essence of local flavors through its exquisite pastries and artisanal breads. This culinary gem takes pride in sourcing seasonal organic ingredients from Charlottesville's finest purveyors, resulting in innovative treats like croissants infused with local goat cheese and sweet pea or peach-blueberry almond swirls adorned with edible flowers.
À french Bakery with delicious Pastry and almond croissant. Service and be on the chill/slow side, but not an issue if you stay awhile. Lots of seating outside when the weather is nice. Beautiful, country decor and furniture inside. Their almond croissant is heavy, has a crunch to it and tasted like it was soaked in orange syrup. So good!!!
Nola — Google review
Coucou rachou makes some impressive pastries, especially love their cardamom braid and their rotating beignets, which you cannot find anywhere else in Charlottesville. For that reason I definitely think coucou is the best bakery in town with no competition that even comes close. Only 1 pastry at Marie Bette (brioche feuillete?) even comes close. Unfortunately Coucou’s espresso drinks service just falls flat and has been falling flat for years at this point. They should just entirely abandon their espresso drinks and just do black coffee, and do it right. Most times I’ve gone there, the espresso drinks are tasteless like tap water and arrive 15 minutes after you pick up your pastry. Clearly they have a problem training baristas and that’s understandable and ok, but don’t make me spend high quality coffee money for this. I’d skip the espresso drinks entirely or go in with the thought that it will be a hit or miss and surely will arrive late. This time I got a cappuccino that looks like the attached picture after waiting for 20 mins. The milk wasn’t even steamed. In contrast, look at the great ice cream I got another time I was here.
Anya S — Google review
Once upon a time I saw someone's Instagram story and a few clicks later I was reading Cou Cou Rachou's daily menu with spice bush beignets (at that time.) The rotating beignets kept me hooked and in those early days they ran out and I tried pain suisse, kouign amans, and more. This review is long overdue but between keeping my French brushed up trying to remember the words in the ever changing danishes and scones, and providing treats to share with family, friends and coworkers I am never not impressed. Lines are understandably long, but once you see what the fuss is about you will understand the wait. Whether it's carry out, dine in, or picking up holiday orders you will never be disappointed here. The pop up markets are so fun too as someone who loves to shop small and local!

An adorable French bakery cafe where you can see them prepping food so you know everything is made in house and fresh! The interior is lovely with some seating inside and outside although limited. I went within an hour of closing but there were still some items to choose from thankfully. I purchased a chocolate croissant for $7 and it was delightfully light, soft but with the texture of the many layers it was baked with. The chocolate wasn’t too sweet but had enough chocolate where I’m not looking for it. The staff are incredibly friendly and sweet. The parking lot was a great bonus. I’ll be back to try more items on their menu!

Can’t say enough about Cou Cou Rachou- has become my “go-to” spot on Sunday mornings. The pastries are can’t miss, especially the caneles, croissants, and double choc cookies- all to be enjoyed on their covered back porch, year-round. Cute and cozy bakery and coffee shop. Coffee (cortado, cappuccino and latte) was very good. Went for gluten free goodies for my daughter and they had 4 options. GF apple muffins and chocolate cookies were the best, other 2 we tried were just okay if a bit on the overly sweet side. Cardamom croissant was very good, light and fluffy, but could definitely use more cardamom flavor. Was most disappointed with the almond croissant - it was very heavy, dense and oily and pretty much inedible for me. Would’ve asked to swap for something else but we did takeaway so could not.

Drove 9h from Indy and stopped here before checking in to our hotel. Got there about 40 minutes before they closed so the selection was limited. Got the chocolate almond raspberry croissant and it was awesome. We decided to stop by the next morning on our way to Monticello and order a bunch of other good pastries. They had a strawberry version instead of the raspberry version the next day. IMO the raspberry version was 10x better. The other pastries were just as delicious. My boys loved the chocolate croissant because it was soooo buttery. The staff were super friendly and the environment was cute and clean.

Bodo's Bagels is a local favorite in Charlottesville, offering New York-style bagels and a variety of customizable breakfast and sandwich options. Founded by Brian Fox in 1988, this establishment has become an essential part of the city's dining scene. With three locations, Bodo's serves over 6,000 people a day with its freshly baked bagels that don't even need toasting. The menu includes 10 different bagel options and an array of toppings to create personalized orders.
If you’re in Charlottesville, you have to stop at Bodo’s Bagels! We tried the egg salad with bacon on an onion bagel and the chicken (turkey) salad with cheese on a garlic bagel—both were delicious. The bagel flavors were spectacular and really brought everything together. The salads themselves aren’t heavily seasoned, which I actually prefer—it lets you adjust the flavor exactly to your liking. Just a heads-up: during rush hour, the space can get pretty cramped with people waiting, but the staff keeps things moving fast and efficiently. Local, tasty, and always worth the stop—Bodo’s lives up to the hype!

The bagels are moist, freshly made , and delicious. They have a variety of schmears and bagels. You can order any protein to make a sanwich. I happen to order their pastrami with egg and cheese. Absolutely worth every cent. They allow you to customize any sandwich with different condiments, cheeses, or spreads. Their are 3 different locations. All of them are in Charlottsville. You will not regret stopping by.

I recently visited the Bodo’s on Preston and ordered a bagel to go. When I got home, I was horrified to find a huge clump of hair baked right into my food. It was absolutely revolting. For a restaurant with such a great reputation, this shows shockingly low standards of cleanliness and food safety. I even left a voicemail for management, but never received a response. I hope management takes this as a wake-up call to fix their health practices immediately.

Staple of C-ville, Bodo's has the best bagels around. Love the jalapeno lime cream cheese on everything or onion bagel. Pro tip, if you're taking out and weather is nice, take your food over to the Rotunda near by at UVA for a great place to sit and have a bite.

We are trying breakfast at this restaurant for the first time, and my husband and I really liked it. I chose a sesame bagel, and it was delicious.

Went with the family on a Sunday morning. It was packed, but the line moved fast. Everyone enjoyed their orders. If you’re traveling through, the food is worth the detour. Also, Go Hokies!

My Boyfriend use to go to UVA AND HE RAVED ABOUT BODOS. We took me here!!! We had bacon, egg and cheese, plain bagel, and I had the lox everything bagel!! Coffee was good too! We bought 1/2 a dozen bagels to take home!! Ahhsooo good! Oh we also got (after we finished our breakfast ) a Tuna on everything with lettuce and tomato!!!!! MONEY! On point so good

I love this place! The bagels are delicious and flavorful, and always cooked perfectly, and the bagel sandwich options are extensive. They're very busy during breakfast and lunch hours, but don't let long lines discourage you too much - they are very efficient. With a line out the door, I've been in and out in 10 minutes with special order sandwiches.

Sweethaus is a small bakery in the heart of campus serving up delicious cupcakes and cookies. They are known for their unique flavors and sweet treats are always fresh made. The bakery is moving soon, but I'm sure it will be just as charming when they do!
Sweethaus made the most perfect cupcakes for our office baby shower. They created two dozen cupcakes EXACTLY the way I ordered. I am so grateful for having such a wonderful bakery in town. Thank you Sweethaus staff!
Carey M — Google review
To be honest, I'm more of a doughnut person but Sweethaus almost changed my mind. I love the space so much and the cupcakes are great- very cakey and not too sweet. They also have these cupcake pushpops that I had never seen before and am slightly obsessed with. Sadly, they're moving locations soon, but I'm sure it'll be just as charming!

This place is awesome! There cupcakes and cookie are great! Also they have mini cupcakes for a $1, that won’t make you feel bad about eating it 🤫😊
Elena G — Google review
Sweethaus was a pleasure to work with for our wedding! Our 3 tier cake was gorgeous, and served about 50 people. We supplemented with 200 mini cupcakes in different flavors, and not a SINGLE one was left at the end of the night. Our guests loved them! Delicious and adorable. Definitely recommend!
Cason T — Google review
My husband and I visited Sweethaus for the first time to pick up some cup cakes for our son's birthday. We tried first before purchasing 1/2 dozen. Seriously...the best buttercream frosting ever and the texture of the cake was perfect. This place will not disappoint! The folks behind the counter we're friendly and took time to speak with us about their product, new things they are working on, etc. ❤️❤️
Karen P — Google review
Cozy and cute! Beautiful baking and delicious. I especially love the cookie dough cupcake. They often come up with new designs and recipes for cupcakes and sweets. If I could suggest anything different, I do wish the coffee was a little better. It's not bad, but not as good as their sweets. Everything is adorable and tasty here!
Petra W — Google review
Sweet and spacious, this cupcake/coffee shop has enough room to hang out for grown-ups as well as kids (the kid's corner features a play kitchen and dollhouse). The cupcakes are beautiful, they host events like birthdays, and the ambiance is unique with lots of vintage furniture and painted cement floors. Also, you can see the bakers at work!
Priya S — Google review
Delicious treats and great customer service. I appreciate how there is always a smile and a 'hello' when I pop in. I especially love their seasonal cupcakes - and their special one-offs, often made with local fruit. The Pistachio and Rosewater cupcake is amazing - as is the summer peach one - peaches picked at a local orchard. Wow. Very much recommended.
