Hamburger restaurant

Family restaurant
Citizen Burger Bar is a popular dining spot in Charlottesville, Virginia that prides itself on serving top-quality burgers and offering an extensive selection of craft beers. The restaurant emphasizes using locally sourced ingredients, including buns from local bakeries, grass-fed beef, and Virginia cheese. While the wait for a table may be long, the house salad with fresh ingredients like grilled chicken and bacon is worth it. In addition to their renowned burgers, the restaurant also offers a variety of legendary salads.
I was on a mission to find the best burger in Charlottesville, and Citizen Burger Bar came up as the top pick—and wow, it absolutely lived up to the hype. Everything about our visit was fantastic. The star of the show was the Citizen Burger itself: stacked with fresh, flavorful ingredients and topped off with a crispy fried pickle that was a delicious surprise. I swapped out the fries for onion rings, and it was totally worth it—perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of downtown Charlottesville, on the pedestrian mall full of charm, energy, and people-watching. It really captures the vibe of the town and the university. One huge bonus: they’re extremely dog-friendly. They brought out a big bowl of cold water for our two pups without us even asking—such a thoughtful touch! My wife ordered the beet salad and loved every bite. We also appreciated the cold bottle of water left at the table to keep our glasses topped off—small detail, but it made the whole experience feel that much more relaxed and attentive. From start to finish, this was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we’ve had in a while. Great food, awesome atmosphere, and top-notch service. Highly recommend—easily a five-star spot!

I am *very* picky about cleanliness so take what I say with a grain of salt. The food is fantastic, best burger I've ever had (and I've had a lot of them), however I found the place to be a bit unhygienic. The bathroom sinks have stuff in them, we got given a plate with a few visible fragments of food, and there was a bartender sneezing all over the bar for a good 10 minutes, and they were covering their mouth with their hand, and even then didn't quite succeed to cover it every time. If you're sneezing more than a few times, please leave areas where food/drink is prepared :) With all that being said, even though all of that pushes me away, I would still give this place another chance in the future simply because I had the best burger I've ever had here. Good job chefs :)
Mason M — Google review
If you’re looking for a great high-quality burger, this is the spot for you! The Steakhouse Burger was delicious, and the beef was cooked just right and not overly greasy. I got a custom burger with the garlic aioli, which I’d definitely order again. The sides, especially the sweet potato fries, hit the spot. The location is on the main strip, and has outdoor seating.
Kenny C — Google review
Cool looking burger joint in downtown Charlottesville, VA. We opted to eat outside because the weather was great. The service was decent but our fries were forgotten, which was probably a good thing, since the custom burger and grilled cheese we got were pretty pricey.
Jessie C — Google review
The staff is friendly and while the wait for a table can be short the bar is normally open except for Friday and Saturday. The Mushroom and Swiss burger is good but the deep fried fries that come with most burgers really taste of the old style of cooking. The Sailor Jerry rum and coke is a fair bit better than a captain and coke. If you can make it for the happy hour or lunch you will find it worth the trip. Large screens for sports sit up on the wall behind the long bar.

We stopped here on our way through Charlottesville.... It was an easy place to find seating, the service was outstanding and the food was great. Definitely try this place out when you are in town!
Charlie K — Google review
Our party of 4 went to Citizen Burger Bar on a Saturday afternoon after strolling through downtown Cville. We got hungry, smelled yummy food and decided to grab some burgers. The other place we wanted to go to was packed, so we went to CBB instead, which turned out to be a mistake. We should have waited at the other burger joint instead. I am giving the food 3 stars because the fries were really good. Regular, cheesy and sweet potato, all of them were crispy and delicious. Not too salty, not too oily, just what we love. The burgers and sandwiches were meh. Mediocre at best. I had the Hotness and it was very greasy. The patty was overcooked and dry, the brioche was dry, the onions were too thick and chewy. I didn't finish it and that's something I never do. I always finish my burger if it's good. The grilled cheese tasted like plastic. The chicken sandwich was better but it had way too much mayo, the onion rings were huge and the bacon was practically nonexistent. The birthday cake slice was huge, but tasted old and stale. We paid over $100 for food and drinks and left hungry. Our waiter took forever to take our order and even more time to bring it out. I had to waive twice to ask him to come to our table to finally ask for the bill. The waitress at the table next to us was super nice, professional and fast. Ours was a disaster. On top of his speed, he smelled like weed and the music was annoyinly loud. I'm 100% sure we will not return to CBB again. Such a shame because it looks like a nice place.

Tapas restaurant
Mas Tapas is a vibrant Spanish restaurant that brings the authentic and artisanal style of cooking to the United States. The eatery offers a lively atmosphere with an industrial-chic setting, making it perfect for a night out with friends. Known for its small plates meant for sharing, Mas Tapas serves up an exciting array of flavors, including renowned dishes like bacon-wrapped dates and creative combinations such as oil-poached shrimp and chorizo deviled eggs.
Fantastic food. Must tries include the artichoke hearts, carne asada, bacon wrapped dates, papas bravas, and the shrimp. Great flavor, great vibes. Was not a huge fan of the brussel sprouts. Would definitely go again to try other (and some of the same) dishes
Tim S — Google review
By far one of the top 3 restaurants in CVille. Sitting at the bar in front of the kitchen is definitely the best seat in the house. However when we went the guy working at the end of the kitchen was chewing on his fingers, on his phone and in and out of gloves all night long as well as his fingers in his hair and face. We are restaurant people. The fact it was not called out was upsetting. We didn't let it bother us, as we even tipped the kitchen because it was so enjoyable to watch them pump that food out and maintain such poise and discipline.
Chris — Google review
Food received a three because I felt everything was under seasoned and could have used more of everything. Concept it great and a good place to socialize with friends and family. Service seemed like they didn't want to be there. We almost ordered the entire menu and was told it would be coursed out but it all came around the same time and ran out of room on the table. Empty plates were not bussed to make room. Atmosphere is amazing. I really like the feel of the place and like I said before it is the perfect place to drink, eat and socialize with friends.
Robert D — Google review
I secured reservations well in advance for my bday dinner. I'm so glad I did! It was amazing! Everything we ate was absolutely perfect! We ordered 9 plates for 2 people and took home 4 to-go boxes! We definitely over ordered, but we wanted to try so many things! Tapas sizes are perfect for 2. I even scored a free dessert for my birthday! This place is in my top 3 best restaurants in Charlottesville. Can't wait to go back! The staff was friendly and efficient. Parking can be difficult to find, as it's all street parking.
Jessica T — Google review
We were disappointed with the overall experience. While the food was good our service was not. Since we're a party of 4 from out of town, we wanted to try several dishes on the menu. We were advised to put everything in at once and they would course it out for us...WRONG! I should have listened to to my instincts, because our 12 dishes came out in rapid succession, as most tapas does. We simply couldn't eat fast enough and our table quickly ran out of room. The server was generally inattentive and just shy of rude. Perhaps our experience would have been different with server.
Sarah D — Google review
The hostess and staff at Mas went above and beyond to give us a wonderful dining experience. There was a mix up with our reservation but they adjusted quickly to make things right. We had a person who was gluten feee and another person who was a vegetation. They brought specialized menus to accommodate our dietary needs. The food was absolutely delicious, and service was perfect. Every single dish we ordered was a culinary treat. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Charlottesville.
Donna J — Google review
2024: The food gets better and better. From our most recent visit, the favorites were the pan tomato (a new menu item and amazing), bocadillo, coliflor and carne asade. (And always papas bravas~ rivaling the best we had in Spain!) 2023: There’s a reason they are always so busy! It’s so different now that they take reservations. We didn’t have one so were stuck at the bar this time. It’s a bit too hectic to be enjoyable for conversation. But no complaints about the food, though! The patatas bravas are always a favorite with us. Rioja is great. I didn’t like the sangria as much. Bread and olive oil ~ nothing compares to that Spanish olive oil. I didn’t enjoy the flavor of the albondigas (meatballs); in fact, from the menu description, I didn’t expect them to be meatballs. The halloumi cheese was different but delicious! The sauce was unexpectedly slightly sweet. The shrimp was delicious, and the sauce made it perfect. All in all, another incredible meal at Mas!
Margaret E — Google review
Always quality, but definitely has gone a bit downhill in terms of portions, pricing, and service. I love the roasted tomatoes. However, they short-change customers on a racion portion (it’s not double the taps size, yet twice the price). One major gripe I have is that you cannot place a to-go order. Also, one of the wait staff told me they’re not allowed to box up food. They basically force you to dine-in.

Soup restaurant
Revolutionary Soup is a casual, counter-serve eatery that offers farm-to-table soups and sandwiches along with artisanal beer and wine. The menu features a variety of vegetarian and vegan soup options, including the popular Peanut Tofu Soup. This local chain is known for its high-quality soups made with local ingredients, earning it the title of best Vegetarian menu in town by The C-Ville.
On a cold, rainy fall day, a bowl of hot soup is a great idea. If you're in this town, make sure Revolutionary Soup is providing that soup. They have a pick two option that lets you try a half sandwich (served as a wrap) and a small soup. We each had one plus a third small soup on the side for a total of five menu options. Every single one of them would be worth having again on their own. Among the soups, though, the lamb curry truly stood out as an outstanding flavor. Both the Kickin' Chicken and Thai Chicken wraps were amazing.
Jason P — Google review
What a hidden gem!!!!! This feeling is only enhanced when you walk through the door to this quaint yet spacious reprieve from your day. The staff is amazing and the customers always smiling. Got a great recommendation and was totally satisfied. I didn’t order one but watching their perfectly crafted wraps being served was tempting. The wraps were layered evenly and looked picture perfect. This is a place you MUST seek out when in the area.
Chinedu E — Google review
A very warm, comforting food experience I had at this place. The soups and sandwiches are amazing. Freshly cooked, warm, and very refreshing flavors. Nice intimate place for communal eating. A must winter place to visit.
V A — Google review
The food is decent, but it’s seriously overpriced for what you get. Portions are small, and the quality doesn’t match the cost. It’s fine in a pinch, but there are better options nearby that offer more value for the money.
Justin M — Google review
Went for lunch on a weekday. They weren't too busy and we were able to get a table and get our food without too much wait. We both ordered a pick two. I had a ham and brie wrap which was really good and a ceasar salad which was just okay. Overall the restaurant was neat and I will probably go again, but will not be ordering the salad again.
Celina P — Google review
Wanted to try something local. Glad we did. The steak and cheese was the best sandwich out of the three. The potato rosemary was smooth and flavorful. The other soups were good. The BLT is an easy classic. The only drawback was the Adam was turned into a wrapped and sadly was very dry.
J B — Google review
Probably the best Philly steak I ever ate! Seasonings were phenomenal, the loaded potatoe soup was good as well as the moist little cornbread!
Whoop W — Google review
They definitely know how to run a restaurant cause it's very fast even when it's packed and employees are kind and helpful. Buddha bowl is good, lots of fresh arugula, curried lamb soup is amazing and the apple butter and goat cheese sandwich is so goooood. Even brownies are great. Definitely a good bet if you're short on time but want to eat quality food.

The shop offers an array of 75 cheeses, 60 types of deli and cured meats, artisanal breads, local wines, fresh organic produce, oils, vinegars from around the world, and much more.
Food is great! Awesome lunch spot in the city. Outdoor is seating is nice. The staff is so friendly and nice! They make the food quickly and are so helpful! The staff makes the vibe of this place so great! If they had more stars to give I would!
Adam L — Google review
I ate at Feast for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed lunch. There are several vegan and vegetarian options including the arugula and spinach salad to which I added tofu. All of the cafe’s packaging is compostable for which they have a separate bin by the exit. The market has a wide selection of cheeses, wines as well as some different salads, chips and other beverages. I had enjoyed their food at several catered events but had somehow never made it into the restaurant. I’ll definitely be back!!
Benjamin R — Google review
A nice local spot with sandwiches, local groceries and wine. We stopped here for a quick lunch on a road trip. I ordered the tuna salad and also tried their molasses cookie and oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. My sandwich was good and flavorful, but nothing special. The molasses cookie was yummy and my oatmeal chocolate chip cookie was ok. One of my friends got the fried chicken sandwich and noticed the middle of it seemed raw, so we sent it back. The staff was accommodating and gave him a new one which was helpful.
Anushka M — Google review
Excellent cheese! We tried 5 new things and they were all wonderful. The lunch is ok, pretty expensive for the amount but we will definitely be back for more cheese .
Caroline D — Google review
Feast is a great place to grab lunch. They have fresh and local products and weekly specials that are always delicious and keep things interesting.
James W — Google review
Great store! Every staff member I interacted with was very helpful. Their customer service level was the way Whole Foods should be or used to be. It’s not a full grocery store, but I saw a good selection of wine, cheeses, jams, etc. I love that many of the products were from local suppliers, and you wouldn’t find them in chain stores. I look forward to going back for more!
Paulienne T — Google review
If you want to splurge, amazing sandwiches at Feast! Food. Just ordered the turkey, cranberry, brie panini. My favorite is the The Local which has goat cheese, olive and artichoke tapenade and arugula on ciabatta bread. Everyone at work always gets the turkey, fig and cheddar panini. I have heard their soups and grain bowls are excellent. Great menu to choose from.

The Juice Laundry in Charlottesville is gaining popularity for its fresh and nutritious juices, smoothies, and acai bowls. Despite being a haven for health enthusiasts, the menu offers delicious options that cater to all tastes. The entirely plant-based offerings make it a go-to spot for those seeking healthy choices. Their Blaze smoothie with ginger, cayenne, mango, strawberries, banana, dates, and house cashew milk comes highly recommended.
Great smoothie bowls. Granola is top notch. The smoothies are exquisite. Fruit is fresh and nut butters are good. I recommend cashew. I went twice in two days and got the Super and Tropic energy. Both were very good. If you’re not into caffeine, I would substitute coconut water for the fancy tea in the Tropic Energy drink. That way you get some extra hydration instead of caffeine. The only better thing would be if they served acai as a base, but they explained why they don’t serve acai and it makes sense!
Jack K — Google review
The employee who took my order was fine. The smoothie was lackluster. The space is cute. Location great. Smoothie bowl? Oooof: The granola was soggy, blueberries mushy like they were frozen and then thawed out. The smoothie itself was almost liquid?—almost like they had made it in advance and just stuck it in a fridge? Who knows. Expected my smoothie bowl to be made fresh since I ordered in but that clearly wasn’t the case.
Kathryn M — Google review
This is my go-to breakfast spot!! I love the Monster smoothie bowl, the granola is my favorite part, and the bananas are always exactly as I love them! But every thing I’ve tried so far is delicious, definitely can’t go wrong and I love that everything is plant-based and good for the earth 😊
Michelle A — Google review
Contemporary, cozy place with great selection of healthy beverages, smoothies, and more. Hosted by friendly staff and wait time is small even in the busy times of day. Free WiFi for those who dine in.
Daniel B — Google review
Nice vibe and the staff was helpful and attentive. They have a nice selection, however, I feel it is overpriced. I have NO issues spending money on healthy things that go in my body, but I felt that $11 for this N5 and $9+ for my wife's smoothie was a bit extreme. The flavor was good, but I'll continue making my smoothies at home.

The staff are always great, they make the experience always pleasurable. I love the vegan, zero waste, and recycling encouragement. Really makes me feel good when I can be guilt free when it comes to diet and waste!

Sandwich shop
Bodo's Bagels is a local favorite in Charlottesville, offering New York-style bagels and a variety of customizable breakfast and sandwich options. Founded by Brian Fox in 1988, this establishment has become an essential part of the city's dining scene. With three locations, Bodo's serves over 6,000 people a day with its freshly baked bagels that don't even need toasting. The menu includes 10 different bagel options and an array of toppings to create personalized orders.
If you’re in Charlottesville, you have to stop at Bodo’s Bagels! We tried the egg salad with bacon on an onion bagel and the chicken (turkey) salad with cheese on a garlic bagel—both were delicious. The bagel flavors were spectacular and really brought everything together. The salads themselves aren’t heavily seasoned, which I actually prefer—it lets you adjust the flavor exactly to your liking. Just a heads-up: during rush hour, the space can get pretty cramped with people waiting, but the staff keeps things moving fast and efficiently. Local, tasty, and always worth the stop—Bodo’s lives up to the hype!

The bagels are moist, freshly made , and delicious. They have a variety of schmears and bagels. You can order any protein to make a sanwich. I happen to order their pastrami with egg and cheese. Absolutely worth every cent. They allow you to customize any sandwich with different condiments, cheeses, or spreads. Their are 3 different locations. All of them are in Charlottsville. You will not regret stopping by.
Michelle L — Google review
I recently visited the Bodo’s on Preston and ordered a bagel to go. When I got home, I was horrified to find a huge clump of hair baked right into my food. It was absolutely revolting. For a restaurant with such a great reputation, this shows shockingly low standards of cleanliness and food safety. I even left a voicemail for management, but never received a response. I hope management takes this as a wake-up call to fix their health practices immediately.
Maximum W — Google review
Staple of C-ville, Bodo's has the best bagels around. Love the jalapeno lime cream cheese on everything or onion bagel. Pro tip, if you're taking out and weather is nice, take your food over to the Rotunda near by at UVA for a great place to sit and have a bite.
Massive L — Google review
We are trying breakfast at this restaurant for the first time, and my husband and I really liked it. I chose a sesame bagel, and it was delicious.

We bought 1/2 a dozen bagels to take home!! Ahhsooo good! Oh we also got (after we finished our breakfast ) a Tuna on everything with lettuce and tomato!!!!! MONEY! On point so good

I love this place! The bagels are delicious and flavorful, and always cooked perfectly, and the bagel sandwich options are extensive. They're very busy during breakfast and lunch hours, but don't let long lines discourage you too much - they are very efficient. With a line out the door, I've been in and out in 10 minutes with special order sandwiches.

Nestled in a serene setting with brick walls and barn wood, C & O is a celebrated restaurant in Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. With a history as long as its beautiful menu, it's known for anniversary and special occasion dinners.
Extraordinary dinner experience at C&O. The space itself is unique and inviting, a contemporary atmosphere in a historic building. Our server was knowledgeable, warm, and capable. The food was exceptional. We started with the bibb salad and scallops. The salad was fresh and flavorful and more than enough to share. The scallops were perfectly seared. I had the duck confit with ricotta gnocchi and it exceeded my expectations in every way. My friend enjoyed the lamb pastry. Neither of us left a crumb behind! We almost changed our dinner plans at the last minute, considering a more casual experience, but we both felt delighted that we stuck with our original instincts. I highly recommend C & O for a date night, or a night out with friends, family, or anyone who enjoys delicious food.

What a beautiful experience!! Top notch, warm, romantic atmosphere and staff that are always making sure you have what you need in a timely fashion. The food was served fresh, hot and of the highest quality. We were so impressed from the appetizer to the dessert, dry rose’ wine and homemade bread. Such a fine dining experience as we passed through Charlottesville over night. We had the wild stripped bass, scallops, bread, and the dessert!! Just heavenly. Kudos to a well managed and customer satisfaction priority restaurant with the warmest of feels. We will return!!

This is such a cool place to eat in downtown Charlottesville. The menu changes fairly regularly, but everything is always delicious. Their homemade bread is amazing, especially with the salted butter. I ordered the duck confit with gnocchi this time and loved it. I wish there had been more of the gnocchi, but still happy I ordered it. The building is beautiful and rustic, it’s a great place for a special occasion (although they don’t offer a free dessert or anything like that, we asked). Friendly staff and very close to the water street parking garage. Be sure to make a reservation.

Came here to celebrate my husband and I anniversary 🎊 I love the old house restaurant and vibe! The little fishes 🐟 from the aquarium at the bar were cute. But specially we loved the food. It was delicious 😋 I highly recommend Scallops to start your dinner.

Fluke Crudo, Beef Tartar, Veal Sweetbrreads, Caesar Salad, Duck Confit Gnocchi, Wild Berry Sundae Crumble. Food and service were both excellent. Presentation and flavors are lovely. The service was professional, attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was cozy.

Beautiful place, very romantic ambiance, very luxurious food. We had the scallops, crab cake, Yukon gold ravioli, fettuccine with lobster, and the steak chinois. The sauces are absolutely amazing and make every bite a party in your mouth. The customer service was excellent. We also had the almond cake and blackberry sundae with caramelized pistachios...very elegant and a great way to finish off our meal. 😋

What a cozy wonderful restaurant! We liked the atmosphere and the friendly staff, the food and wines are outstanding. We had scallops with capers and sweetbread with Pinot Noir from Willamette, a perfect match. Bavette Chinois steak excellent as well. Finally sticky Toffee with Madeira, to die for. 5 points!

No vegetarian entrees were offered, so I was left having a bib salad and a pasta appetizer from these starters menu. In 2025, is it too much to ask for nice restaurants to actually have a good vegetarian entree on the menu? The The salad and pasta appetizer were nothing to write home about, but the sticky, toffee pudding dessert was delicious. Definitely not a first choice for vegetarians which is just fine but sometimes vegetarians have to accompany a larger party. So please do better with at least one real vegetarian option

Bizou is a charming restaurant located in Charlottesville, offering a mix of traditional and updated Southern dishes. The establishment, which has been around for 20 years, prides itself on sourcing local ingredients that change with the seasons. The menu features classic favorites like meatloaf and pot pie alongside elegant Sunday brunch options such as eggs Florentine, hanger steak, salmon, and pomegranate mimosas.
Had a great brunch at Bizou. We went during the children's spring break. As such, it wasn't as crowded as we feared as most of the college students were likely on break as well. We were seated without delay. The Double Down Burger and Spicy Chicken Burger were both tasty, juicy, and full of flavor. The rest of the table were satisfied with their dishes as well though i am not certain what they were called. Service was excellent! Our server was very friendly and attentive. The venue itself has a charming old historic feel that adds to the experience.

We had the Biriaa Biscuit and Fried Chicken Sandwich, both of which tasted amazing. The chicken thigh was cooked beautifully and the slaw was perfect. We had a side of fries that were cooked perfectly. Their cocktails are worth the price, amazingly made. The service was kind and quick. We ate within 30 minutes of sitting down.

Servers were all very polite and hospitable. The atmosphere was mellow with dim lighting. BUT THE FOOD THO. THE FOOD WAS STUPENDOUS. The short rib croquettes, the duck ravioli, the scallop seasonal special, the creme brulee! The short rib croquettes and their crunchy exterior when you bite into it, the creamy and soft short ribs interior dipped into the rich and creamy hint of mustard SAuce. Exquisite. The duck ravioli was full of flavor, perfectly cooked al dente ravioli, so good. Touched my tralala. The scallop had a very nice grilled flavor, there was so much different flavor in one dish. Like the autumn leaves. The pumpkin slices, to the carrots, to whatever was in there. I don't even know where they get their olive oil. That was such a smooth and fruity flavor. The creme brulee was a nice finisher. I would love to go back.

A Cville treasure! Great menu with local ingredients executed perfectly. Sit outside if the weather permits or grab a cozy booth inside. We had the roasted beet salad with seared salmon for lunch.

Food is fantastic. Wine list is complete. Only comment is to take a day with the staff on the wines & proper serving temps. Beautiful bottle of 2022 Chablis came out slightly under room temp. Had to ice it down to bring it to its glory. Was genuinely great otherwise. Just take the time to educate the super star staff on the wine.

Splendid French style dishes. • autumn squash tart absolutely exquisite. Fall in a bite, roasted cinnamony squash, buttery crisp and rich tart, pumpkin seed texture pop, & matchless goat cheese yogurt sauce with hint of sweetness and basil garnish. • tuna tartare with minty green sauce and sweet sour soy glaze, fresh tuna, & crispy wonton fried strips for dipping and crunch texture. • confit duck ravioli with generous richly flavorful sauce, garlic pesto, basil, goat cheese yogurt drizzle. Succulent duck in al dente ravioli pasta. Restaurant floorplan a bit narrow feeling, service can be a bit rushed and desultory by some of the staff but attentive and great by others. Superb food.

Food quality was variable. Burrata salad was pretty good, vegan tamale not so good, garlic bread not so good, crab cakes were ok, and short ribs were good. Server was a bit awkward but ultimately provided decent service. Sit outside--kitchen fumes a bit strong inside.

Vegetarian options and all the servers work together as a team. Even the bartender came to ask exactly how the cocktails are desired. I would like more than one napkin but hey the food was amazing. Very quaint place.

The Whiskey Jar is a beloved spot in Charlottesville, known for its comforting Southern cuisine and laid-back atmosphere. The menu offers hearty dishes like crispy fried catfish and tender BBQ brisket, complemented by an extensive selection of local beers, whiskeys, and house-made cocktails. This casual eatery is part of Ten Course Hospitality and is a go-to for those seeking classic Southern fare such as buttermilk biscuits, poboys, and fried chicken.
The restaurant is so cute and the food is amazing! I absolutely love the cornbread and have to get it every time. I’m also a huge fan of the blackened catfish. This past time I got the oyster poboy with the broccoli salad and both of those were so good.
Zoe G — Google review
The bourbon selection is pretty fantastic at the whiskey jar and the staff were great. We stopped in on the way through town and had a few local brews and had some dinner. On a recommendation from the server, I got the BLT and it was unquestionably the best one I’ve ever had. The kids had grilled cheese and they were also raving about it. We had to wait about 25 minutes to get a seat outside, but that’s probably because we showed up around 6pm on a Friday night. I’ll definitely stop here the next time I’m in Charlottesville.

I went with a friend for lunch. The decor was authentic and made the place charming. I took the rack ribs with french fries and salad. The meat was really tender with a barbecue sauce. Absolutely loved it.
Kevin G — Google review
I can highly recommend the Whiskey Jar Julep is made of very fresh ingredients at the bar. The meat is not a poor quality cut but actual good quality and the sides are all good. Staff remembers faces despite the busy atmosphere. Drinks and food can be found cheaper but not for the exceptional quality of the well made food and drink.

Good experience with attentive staff and decent food - nothing to write home about. The Wilson sandwich was tasty and the house salad was good (w/ shrimp). The drink were a bit strong for my taste.

We went here for the live music. Special shout out to Matthew O'Donnell for the invigorating energy and amazing music. Spent hours in the place just for the music. Its mind blowing how many instruments he played! Its ljke a magician who gets out a different instrument every two minutes. Unexpectedly, the food was also quite nice. The vegetarian burger might feel slightly dry, but less so than most other american burgers. The hummus and veggies were great and healthy. Although, I wonder from the huge size of the veggies whether they are gmo. The hummus tho has a brilliant taste! Moreover, one of the most lively place in the downtown. Love it!

I was looking for an authentic southern restaurant to take my friend to. This place did not disappoint. very solid a pulled pork. Barbecue nachos was loaded and tasty. The brussels sprout was so good. Everything was seasoned well and not overwhelming. We also try their signature cocktail with whiskey and really like it a cute little place in downtown to recommend.

I reviewed this place 7 months ago and it hasn't changed after giving it another try recently. This is the second visit in 7 days, and neither of them was mind-blowing. I had not planned on reviewing this spot since it is a local favorite. After the experience tonight I wanted to put my two cents in. To begin, the drinks are great, as is the environment. There was a local group playing some music tonight, which I have heard before, and they are entertaining. No issues there. It was nice to see the folks dancing and having a good time. The drink selection is great too. I am writing this based on several visits and not a single visit. The not-so-great. These last two times I have received glassware that was chipped and broken. Not a huge deal to some and I've been in food service before. I know first hand how this can become a big deal to some folks. I was honestly perturbed by the fact that it happened twice in a row. Sounds dumb, but I was not inspecting my glassware thoroughly when it was brought in; I did not notice that it was broken until I was already drinking from the glass. The first time I brought it up, the young man was very apologetic. This second time, the waiter (a different person) was sort of nonchalant and uncaring. The food is mediocre and salty. I had a burger the first time that was made incorrectly. I notified the young man, who was apologetic but never came back with the condiments I requested. He didn't come back for a good 40 minutes, to be honest and I had decided to just eat my burger and go home by that time. This time I had the fried chicken. I won't make that mistake again hahaha. There was a breast and two other pieces which were unrecognizable because they were burnt and dried up. The breast was moist inside but the breading, potatoes, and gravy were all extremely salty. I enjoyed my drink so I will just stay away from the food next time. Overall, my impression is that the location and live music is what makes the place great. definitely not the food nor the service. I want to say it was a one-off, but through the 3 or 4 past experiences, the service was never more than "ok".

Personally, I want to give a warm and well deserved Thank You to all who work here! It was absolutely incredible overall, I had the Chinese sticky pork belly, and I was such a piggy who definitely wanted more. However, portion alone was quite decent. I was blown away by the quality of food here! We came here at the suggestion of a tour guide in town and I couldn't be happier for it. The special of the day, Tomato Pie, was amazing! It's a rarity you find it on a menu at all but then have the taste to back it up is a treat. I don't drink beer so I can't speak to it but with the amount of choices offered here, everyone should be able to find something that they love. I would happily go back and try many more dishes here.

Have been here a few times and have really enjoyed my experience each time. The last time I came for brunch with some friends. They were a little crowded for the number of servers they had but it wasn’t terrible. I got the breakfast burrito and it was a lot of food and I was happy with it. The potato’s that came with it were pretty good as well. Prices were reasonable and they have a huge beer selection, both domestic and imports, so be sure to check those out as well

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon in July around 12:30 PM. It was not very busy. There is inside and outside seating. We chose to sit inside at the bar. We were immediately greeted by a bartender, and she gave us menus. We talked about the beers on tap and tried a few before deciding on the Freestone Walker Union Jack IPA. I had the local burger (which is smashed now) and frites (potato wedges not fries as I found out later). My spouse had the Turkey Trot. The burger was cooked too long so the edges were very dry. The frites were very thick wedges so they were not crispy like fries. The Turkey Trot had good flavor but the bread was so thick it overwhelmed the sandwich. The service was very good as was the beer but we were not impressed with our food selections.

Stopped in for lunch and was immediately impressed by the menu. Great variety. Soup specials of the day were white bean chili and squash, ginger bisque. Both were amazing. Great depth of flavor. Enjoyed a turkey club and another special, turkey meatball sub. Both were ample in size and tasty. Finished it off with a brownie made with rye which was excellent. No beer but the selection was solid. Our server was attentive and helpful. Outdoor space was perfect for enjoying the weather. Price point was very good. Definitely a place I'd return to.

Beer run always knocks it out of the park. The beer selection is always well stocked with all the craft beer you could ever imagine. I’ve been for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and am always blown away by how good their food is and how interesting they keep their menu. I live the rotating menu and always have an opportunity to try something new each time I go. Def recommend their nachos and shrimp/grits. Show this place as much love as possible!

Some bartenders are great. Not all. Been going to beer run 10 years. Not often. I like the selection and generally the service. Last couple of times on a Friday at 4, the bartender was rude and short. Made me feel unwelcome and a bother. Same dude. Geez. Asked for a couple samples before deciding and got a couple drops of each. Didn’t help me decide. But I have made some decisions. Terribly start to a weekend. Love you beer run but some folks will keep me and others away.

The nachos were awesome we got ours with the meat. My husband had the chicken pot pie which the filling was very flavorful but the crust left a little left to be desired so he didn’t the shell of it. And I had the shrimp and grits flavor also very delicious my only small complaint was that it was tail-on shrimp, mixed into this beautiful dish that you had to cut off and plop off to the side, I personally like to get everything out of the tail which then meant getting my fingers full of grits.

The outdoor patio is recommended for its pleasant ambiance and great people-watching opportunities. Known for its distinct approach to Thai cuisine, Monsoon Siam stands out among other local Thai restaurants by offering a variety of well-executed dishes.
Very busy but service was fast and polite when sharing estimated time of food prep. The wait was worth it as every food item was amazing!! The drunken noodles here are the best I’ve ever had! The spice and sauce flavor were perfectly balanced for a strong rich taste(we ordered spice lvl 3). The chicken satay is a great app pick. Flavorful non chewy chicken with a great peanut sauce.

Extremely good Thai food. Especially recommend their seitan starter! Their curries had a hearty flavour and came with rice portions. The rice portion serves one only, maybe two in some cases! The flat noodles also needs a special mention. They have the perfect chew, and vegetables saute is decent in it. We spend 15 per person.

It was a cold and rainy night when we visited the restaurant. Despite having a full house, the staff were very accommodating and quickly found us place to sit at the bar. We were told that it would probably take 45 minutes for our food order due to the number of in-house and online orders, but our drink and appetizer orders came out quickly. The main course meals didn't quite take 45 minutes, but regardless of the time, it was well worth the wait. Both meals were flavorful and had the right amount of spice for a cold night.🌶😋 The staff is incredibly nice, and the decor make for a unique experience. This is a great spot for a date night. ❤️

It's always feels like come back home at Monsoon siam. The food is always great and delicious. When I closed my eyes , I thought I was in Thailand. A Gem! For one of our date nights we gave this place a go and I’m soooo glad it didn’t disappoint. It’s a small spot, but they make it work. The wait wasn’t long at all, especially if you don’t mind sitting outside. The staff is always nice, and the food… Amazing! My life loves Thai food. Me? I’ll be honest, it’s not one of my favorites, but this place is making me a believer. We’ve been here twice already, and the first time I had a curry dish that was really, really good! This last time I switched it up and got a different dish, I’m not entirely sure what the name of the dish is because it was pretty long and difficult to pronounce, but it was fried pork belly with rice, a fried egg and salad… DELICIOUS! Very generous portions too. I like this place so much that I’m the one who asks my wife if she’d like to go here first before giving her other options when deciding on dinner for our date nights lol. Don’t take my word for it though, go and check it out, see for yourself.

Service was very good. Atsmosphere was nice & busy . But the main is food was not very good. I ordered soft shell crab but it was very very salty. I did finish the food. Tavern & Grocery offers a relaxed and rustic setting where you can enjoy contemporary and local American cuisine, along with drinks and brunch. Housed in one of the oldest commercial structures in Charlottesville, dating back to 1820, this establishment has a rich history as it originally served as a grocery store and residence for the Inge family. The restaurant's name pays homage to its original function as a Tavern and Grocery.
We love this place. Ashley and her team do a wonderful job. We went for brunch, and the menu had been updated. Husband had the always delicious and perfect eggs benedict. I tried the new (to me) mushroom, brie and arugula omelet. The omelet was divine, the accompanying arugula salad was a perfect complement of acidity and salty to the richness of the omelet, and the frites were perfectly (double) cooked. I'd be remiss not to mention the homemade catchup that has a slight zing to it. and of course the mimosas! Always one of our favorite spots in Charlottesville.

Came to Charlottesville for a Valentine’s getaway. A few weeks before we looked at a bunch of local restaurants for a special dinner on the day. Tavern & Grocery did not indicate they were doing a Valentine’s prefix menu but had one up from last year so we guessed. The week of we received an email stating it was a prefix but the menu was not included nor was it on the website. Got to the restaurant and we’re seated promptly, incredible service, great cocktail menu. Prefix menu was presented and was more expensive than last year, which was fine but should have been shared ahead of time. Menu had a pork belly salad that was just ok, and a soup that was excellent. Mains included a showstopper bison steak but also a duck confit that was very light on duck and just didn’t stand up for the price. Mousse and torte desserts were both excellent. Overall loved the atmosphere and service but was disappointed by the prefix especially at a $75 per person price point. Would come again but not for a special occasion.

We got food from Tavern & Grocery but was seated in the Lost Saint area. The decor was super cute and vintage. Cocktails was decent. We went during restaurant week so they got fixed menu. Gotta say that the brussel sprouts were absolutely amazing. The rest was okay, at most. The salmon covered with black and white sesame seeds was just a bit extra. The sesame seeds were too strong and indecent of the salmon taste. The olive cake with berries was a bit dry. Service was also slow

What a cute restaurant. It has very rustic feel but very cute as well. Food comes in a smaller portion but just the right amount. The taste was decent. We got the eggs Benedict which was decent. We also got the eggs Chesapeake which was tasty. The egg sandwich was tasty and slightly on small side. Food here does not overwhelmingly fill you up but it's just satisfyingly right portion.

Wow, the food was absolutely amazing. Great option for vegetarians! The barbeque tofu has so much flavor and the roots rice was amazing. This is a very healthy food option and the portion was really big. I got the southern and I would highly recommend. The sauce was also a nice touch, not too strong like some dressings, but a perfect light flavor addition to the bowl. 10/10

Such a delicious lunch here today! I had the create your own and loved it. The staff were super helpful and upbeat. Definitely plan to visit again!
Devin M — Google review
I’m in Charlottesville for a wedding and a group of us stopped at Roots for salads for lunch. We walked to our hotel and began eating when, not 15 minutes in, I bite down on something hard. It was a broken piece of metal. I then sifted through the salad and found a SECOND identical piece of metal. I walked back to the restaurant and alerted the manager and staff. They looked at me puzzled but were not in any way apologetic. I said I don’t want to make a scene but this just happened. They said “we don’t even have utensils like that.” Well news flash, you do and one is broken because the pieces were in my salad. I’m not a litigious person but I went to law school, therefore I am very familiar with lawsuits of this nature. The manager gave me a refund for mine and my Aunt’s salads, but the lack of care is what bothered me the most especially since the staff began making the next meal for the next customer without doing a thorough inspection of their utensils or ingredients. Accidents happen but they can also result in severe injury. I’m lucky I was not severely harmed by this incident but this restaurant must do better.

Delicious lunch bowls! I had the El Jefe and subbed chicken for sweet chili miso tofu. Lots of seating upstairs!

I absolutely love Roots - get the El Jefe but anything you try or create on your own is so delicious! The flavors and combination of ingredients are so unique and delicious!! Everyone working there is so kind and FAST!! Find myself going back all the time bc I trust I’ll love my food and have a good experience!

Mediterranean restaurant
Mezeh is a delightful destination for Mediterranean cuisine enthusiasts, focusing on fresh and natural ingredients. Their menu features an array of flavorful options, including spit-roasted chicken, beef shawarma, falafel, and shredded lamb—all crafted without unnecessary sugars or fats. The vibrant selection of salads and spreads like hummus, couscous, and tabbouleh makes it easy to create a personalized meal that bursts with flavor.
Everything is so colorful and appetizing. Smells good, Such a great place for a healthy quick meal. Everything is fresh and seems to be made in house. 2nd time eating here and it was better than the first. I make my own and just add everything. Got chicken fajitas protein and was fresh and tasty. Baklava and chocolate chip cookies were on point. Keep up the great job. I wish I had one closer to home as this is an hour away. Staff was friendly and attentive, it’s nice to have a healthy meal served promptly.
MATTHEW S — Google review
Had a worst experience at Mezeh today. The portion size is a joke. Attached picture is a junior bowl worth $9.48 after tax. We discussed our concern with the person who attended us, she made a face and took us to the manager who was having lunch at a table next to us. We witnessed the rudest manager who told us’ this is what you get’ as we have new rules . After that both ladies proceeded to give us bad stares and made me and my kids extremely uncomfortable. We had to leave our lunch and just leave the place. So the managers name was Danielle, or if your supervisor is reading this please know that you are horrible at your job and you need to do better. And please check on what people you hire and if this is truly mezeh policy for a junior bowl.

Always a great experience here. Food is extremely fresh and flavorful. Lots of variety and customization. Generous portions. Employees are welcoming and friendly, and the restaurant is pretty clean (compared to say Chipotle, a guac and chicken minefield). Highly recommend if in the mood for healthy and quick mediterranean food.

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. Got a small (kids size) bowl and felt well fed. The flavors are very good! This is the first Mediterranean place where I can try all of the unique flavors without getting 5 different meals. The couscous, pickled onions, and yogurt sauce are a must! The chocolate chip cookie was soft but lacked flavor. 2 of us ate for $18. Will definitely come again!

Great food, no wait! Lots of choice to put on your bowl from greens, grains, vegetables, sauces, etc. Highly recommended.

Food is tasty. But they will scam you. I paid several dollars extra for steak in my "build your own bowl". They gave me like maybe half an ounce of steak total. Complete scam. The prices keep going up. The quantities keep shrinking. Quality is still pretty decent though.
Christian P — Google review
Portion sizes are extremely small for the price. Just take a look at the pieces of chicken, there are maybe two bites there.
Sinthia T — Google review
Terrible Service and Stingy Portions This place was a complete disappointment. The workers had nasty attitudes, acted like they were doing me a favor by serving food I paid for. , and were super stingy with the food. I asked for extra steak, and the girl gave me half a spoon—literally four tiny pieces—and charged me $7 for it. Ridiculous! They act like the food is coming out of their paycheck. Save your money and go somewhere that actually respects their customers.

Bar
The Shebeen Pub & Braai in Charlottesville, VA offers a unique dining experience with South African fare and wines in a cozy tavern setting. The menu reflects the multiculturalism of the Southern African palate, and the establishment is styled after Cape wineries. It's a mecca for soccer fans with widescreen TVs to catch all the games while enjoying cold beers and delicious appetizers.
This was our second visit to The Shebeen. We had an amazing brunch the first time around. The second time around started, well, not good. They were extremely busy but the service was truly subpar. My wife had The Benny, which featured the best smoked salmon I ever tasted. She raved about it. I had the shrimp & grits which was also among the best I've ever had and shrimp & grits is a go to meal for me. An off day by a server can leave a bad taste in your mouth. But outstanding food along with an excellent, genuine manager eliminated the rough start and we left looking forward to our next visit, rather than grumbling about the negative. Thank you, Shebeen, till the next time.

For a wedding weekend brunch we reserved the outdoor area to enjoy with friends and family. Our experience was superb. The owner, Megan, was on hand and super helpful. The staff were very attentative and worked hard to accommodate my large party. And the food was awesome!! At some point it was too hot to sit outside and they offered us the chance to move inside and moved the food inside as well. They truly treated us like family and we couldn't ask for more. Can't express how much we appreciate everything they did for us. Can't wait to visit again!!

Botanical Plant-Based Fare is a vibrant and colorful vegan fast casual restaurant located on the Downtown Mall. The menu features delightful dishes such as the Chickpea Tuna Sandwich, Roasted Sweet Potato Bowl with chili cashews and BBQ drizzle, and an intriguing Miso Mac & Cheese. This spot offers options for both lunch and dinner, catering to vegetarians, vegans, and plant lovers alike.
The offerings all sound tasty so it was hard to choose. I went with the combo deal and picked a half sandwich plua the mac & cheese and alsk ordered a small terra salad. The crispy chix sandwich is made of fried oyster mushrooms with mayo and pickled purple cabbage, a lil salty a lil sweet. The bread was perfectly crispy. I devoured the Mac and cheese. The bread crumbs and bacon were a great touch to the savory and creamy dish. Service was fast and friendly. The resturant is off a main walking road, conveniently located near a bunch of other cute shops. It also has two spots within the store with items for sale like teas, cookbooks, and merch. I'd visit again and order something new of their menu as they seem to do everything well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Clean, creative, and full of heart I’m not vegan, but I love food that’s healthy, clean, and made with intention — and this place nailed it. I ordered the Gochu Street Corn plate and the Miso Mac & Cheese, and both were standout dishes. The Gochu Street Corn was bright and flavorful, with a subtle spiciness that complemented (not overpowered) the sweetness of the corn. It had just the right amount of zip without being overwhelming. The Miso Mac & Cheese was creamy and comforting, yet felt lighter and more thoughtful than a typical mac & cheese. The miso brought a depth and savory twist I didn’t expect — in the best way. Visually, everything was beautifully plated. You could tell care went into arranging the ingredients so each element had space to shine. The atmosphere added to the experience: relaxed, welcoming, and with a vibe that feels intentional (in décor, music, lighting) — not trying too hard, just right. The service was warm and unobtrusive. If you’re seeking a place that pushes beyond “just tasty” to “meaningful and mindful,” this spot deserves a try. I’ll be coming back for sure.

Cauliflower dish was pretty good. The wonton nachos were quite delicious. The Caesar salad dressing was pretty good and flavorful as well. The Okono cakes were very flavorful with their gochujang aïoli sauce. The light roasted coffee was also flavorful as was the chai latte, although perhaps a bit sugary.

Extremely delicious food! Was in the town for the weekend and stopped in for brunch because I saw this restaurant was exclusively plant-based. I got the gluten-free savory waffles (under the brunch menu waffles 2 ways) which could quite easily be the tastiest breakfast I’ve ever had. Was able to eat outdoors and enjoy the weather too ☀️ Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back and try some more!

Beautiful and cozy ambience and delicious vegan food!! We were visiting Charlottesville for a couple days and came back to this place because it was so good. Highly recommend the crunchy cauliflower bowl!!

We found this place while searching on. Happy Cow for vegan options in Charlottesville. This place popped up in two different locations (they have one in another city also with reduced hours). I was really excited to try this because the menu is ALL VEGAN and mostly Gluten Free. There were so many choices that I didn't know where to start, honestly. So we ended up splitting a few different dishes to try and taste the diversity they had to offer. I got a Chai Latte and my husband got a Matcha Latte to drink. Both were absolutely delicious. For food, we decided to try the following: Rainbow Terra Salad Umami Potatoes Chickpea Tuna Boats Okono Cakes (we really wanted the Crab Cakes, which were on the summer specials list, but they have wheat protein in them, so not GF... unfortunately) All of these were fantastic! I love that they used purple cabbage and carrots for the Okono Cakes, which seem similar to Latke's, but not nutrient dense. In all honesty, I wanted to go back for dinner to try some of the other options, but we weren't in the same area anymore. Overall, the food and service was great. Lance was very knowledge and friendly and also gave us some great insight about other cool things to do in the area that the locals like. Much appreciated!

Absolutely excellent, fresh, seasonal vegan food with gorgeous outdoor seating in the historic pedestrian area! It was so good I not only had lunch, but bought a breakfast sandwich & muffin for the road. Delicious!

I absolutely love this place and so does my non-vegan significant other. To have vegan and gluten free options the way they do? Amazing. We've never waited very long and everything is so good. I've had the Cauliflower Nubs (both appetize and the full dish), the special Hash browns, Savory and Sweet Waffles (savory is my favorite), Mac n cheese, Mushroom based chicken sandwich (I don't know the actual names of the dishes). I don't do fake meats and they have plenty of non processed options without the fake vegan meats. Their GF Almond cookies are great for an occasional treat. If In doubt, give it a try. I will miss them when I move back to NC.

Restaurant
The Ivy Inn Restaurant offers a refined dining experience in an early 19th-century house with a charming Old Virginia ambiance. This family-owned establishment has been serving locavore American cuisine for over 20 years, featuring a menu inspired by locally available ingredients. Situated just west of downtown Charlottesville and near the University of Virginia, it's an ideal spot for a romantic dinner or a relaxing meal after exploring the city.
Dined here for my birthday and left super happy! The food and service, both excellent. The setup is very cozy and even though there were a lot of people, it felt private due to the multi floor setting. Our server, Robert was awesome and he made some great suggestions. They started with some fresh warm bread, butter and a couple of mini pimento crostinis. Then we got a couple of cocktails and the mains. Their sticky toffee dessert was SO good. All in all, highly recommend!

The Ivy Inn nails that perfect balance of charm and fine dining. It’s the kind of spot you take your bougie Northern Virginia relatives to when you want to impress—and it absolutely delivers. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but the food justifies every dollar. The corn ravioli might be the best ravioli I’ve ever had—rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The meats were cooked to perfection, and the trout? Hands down the best representation of fish I’ve ever tasted. Served in a cozy, historic inn with great ambiance, Ivy Inn manages to feel both upscale and inviting. A Charlottesville gem.

Excellent experience here from beginning to end. We are here visiting my niece who is graduating this spring and what a wonderful meal to celebrate her accomplishment. We sampled many things on the menu and everything was excellent. Creamy Five Onion Soup (with Country Ham & Membrillo Grilled Cheese) - excellent start with a rich, complex savory soup. I didn't even miss the mini grilled ham and cheese accompaniment they forgot :( But my wife enjoyed mine and hers with her serving of soup later in the meal. Sweet Potato Empanadas (Black Beans, Chipotle Salsa, Avocado, Lime Cream) - I am not sure if this was the exact empanadas we had but they were excellent, especially the accompanying sauce. The Ivy Mixed Greens (Beets, Cukes, Radishes, Vella Dry Jack Cheese, Creamy Basil Vinaigrette) - solid salad, great creamy dressing. Stuffed Date Salad (Romaine, Kale, Radicchio, Goat Cheese, White Balsamic, Pistachios) - a little drier as a salad, couple have used some more balsamic but the goat cheese and dates were excellent. Grilled Certified Angus Beef Tenderloin (Potato-Short Rib Pierogi, Creamed Greens, Cabernet Sauce) - excellent cut of steak, very tender and flavorful and loved the creamed greens and the pierogi was a nice touch. Creamy Mac'n Three Cheese (Cheddar, Vlahotiri, Parmigiano) - my daughter and all of us loved their Mac n Cheese, hard to overstate how tasty this simple dish was. Service was friendly, engaged, and helpful. Atmosphere in this cozy, rustic but still refined setting was great.

Absolutely fantastic food, great wine selection including lots of local offerings, and none of the pretense that you’d typically expect of a restaurant of this caliber. We got the tuna crudo to start - beautiful balance of umami, salt, sweetness, and spice. For entrees, she got the chicken breast cordon bleu - loved the salt bomb from the country ham balanced against the creamy potatoes. I couldn’t decide on a pasta, so I got Italian surf and turf - half-orders of the gnocchi bolognese and the shrimp and crab pasta. Both were fantastic, showing off the protein without letting it dominate the dish. We closed with the sticky toffee pudding. If you could coalesce bourbon into a perfect dessert, this would be it. Combine all that with stellar service, and I’m perfectly willing to overlook the close proximity and audible conversations of other patrons. Overall, I highly recommend Ivy Inn for a great meal on any notable occasion.

Absolute gem. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve lived in Charlottesville yet never been here. This is the first time and an exciting to chapter of date nights have begun! Top notch from start to end. Do yourself a favor and experience a truly mouth watering experience and go to The Ivy Inn.

I hesitate to call an evening perfect, but the Ivy Inn in Charlottesville Virginia delivered that and much more. This wonderful restaurant was beautiful outside and the interior was incredible. When making the reservations a few days earlier, we were asked if this was a special occasion and I told them that we were celebrating our 4th anniversary. We had done a lot of research and heard that the Ivy Inn would exceed our expectations. When we arrived, we were shown to our table and presented with customized menus celebrating our anniversary. The staff also provided champagne for us just to get the evening going. I had the crab and shrimp tagliolini which was served with tomato basil butter, lemon parmesan, and garlic bread crumbs. This entree was superb! My husband had the Maryland jumbo lump crab cake with a hash brown potato, vegetable slaw, and a homemade remoulade sauce. With apologies to our family in Maryland, this was the best crab cake he ever had. For dessert, I had a creme brulee that was sheer perfection and my husband had an amazing key lime pie. What made this evening magical was the impeccable service that we received and the professionalism displayed by the Ivy Inn staff. Also, we looked at each other and said that for each of us this was the first time we had ever seen an establishment execute a dinner with this level of flavor without some detail that could have been better. Folks, this food and service is as good as it gets. We plan to come back again on this day next year. If you ever travel to Charlottesville and want an exquisite eating experience, we highly recommend this place. 😎❤️

We recently visited The Ivy Inn in Charlottesville, and it was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we walked in, the warm atmosphere and attentive service made us feel welcomed and special. Kyle, our server, was fantastic and made the evening even more enjoyable. The food was outstanding and truly memorable. We started with the Spinach Bibb and Blue Salad with White Balsamic dressing, which was fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. The Crispy Pork Belly was incredible, and we highly recommend that appetizer. For our mains, my husband had the Grilled Certified Angus Beef Tenderloin, cooked to perfection, and I had the Pan Roasted Chicken Breast "Cordon Bleu," which was bursting with flavor. The twice-baked sweet potato was rich, creamy, and absolutely WOW. The Creamy Greens with Smoked Bacon were full of flavor (yummy), and the Crispy Grit Cake was absolutely delicious. Every dish reflected artistry and passion in the kitchen. The Ivy Inn is a true gem, and we cannot wait to come back for another special meal. FIVE stars all the way.

Wow! What a pleasurable dining experience! The food was fresh, flavorful, and oh so good! We tried the homemade Lobster & Crab Tortellini in an Alfredo sauce and the homemade, locally grown apple pie! Yum! And the bread and butter…I usually avoid it to save room for the entree, but it is NOT to be missed! Our server was Logan and he provided a wonderful dining experience! If you are looking for an enjoyable meal in a lovely setting, then come here!!! We will definitely dine here again!

One of the best meals of my life. Seriously! And I'm 61 and have eaten a LOT! The swordfish on a sundried tomato pistou with mushroom risotto and asparagus was sublime. Crabcakes? Outstanding! Sorry I didn't take the photos before digging in - trust me when I say the presentation was impeccable.

Highly recommend! My husband and I are huge foodies and enjoyed every bite at Hamiltons. We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer, and for the main course we chose the crab cakes & beef tenderloin. I’ve never had a steak that was so tender and packed with flavor. The crab cakes were fairly thick and weren’t fishy. The wait staff was very attentive and kind. Great place for a date night. Huge compliments to the chef! He clearly knows what he’s doing.

Hamiltons' offers a warm, inviting atmosphere with preserved dark wood architecture that adds to its charm. We were seated at the bar, where the excellent bartender provided outstanding service. I enjoyed two drinks: The Optimist, a classic Old Fashioned done right, and the Divot Stomp Old Fashioned, a refreshing surprise that felt like a gin and tonic crafted in true "old fashioned" style. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was perfectly tender and not overcooked which can be quite hard to do. My shrimp and grits were delicious and came in a generous portion. Others in the group ordered the Arctic Char (fairly certain this is what it was), mushroom risotto and a juicy thick pork chop. The consensus from the group is that Hamiltons' delivered impeccable food, service, and atmosphere. My only regret was not leaving with the recipe for that unforgettable Divot Stomp Old Fashioned!

Greeted by an inviting hostess who recommended seating at the bar since we didn’t have reservations. Our good luck, we met an amazing bartender and server, Logan …. The best!. We will be back next time we are in the area.

Let me say that Hamiltons is one of my favorite restaurants in town for ambiance. The night of our dinner, there was lovely live music as well! The food was good, but it didn’t impress me as much as in times past. We came for an anniversary dinner. The sauce for the tenderloin was not really my cup of tea. The shrimp and grits are always a fave for some including my husband. My husband loved the lemon meringue tart so much he wished he got two! (It was on the small side). They didn’t have bread service anymore but our waiter brought us some biscuits that were delicious. Service was very attentive. We enjoyed our night out!

Nestled in the Main Street Market, Orzo Kitchen & Wine Bar offers a cozy industrial-chic setting to savor Mediterranean cuisine. Drawing inspiration from Italy, Greece, Spain, and the South of France, their menu features delectable orzo alongside branzino, risotto, and international delights like coca de trampo. The restaurant's ambiance reflects the owners' Mediterranean travels with soulful cooking and warm hospitality.
Orzo is a lovely restaurant with a thoughtful, seasonal approach to dining and genuinely kind service. The moment we sat down, we were welcomed with a dish of house-made olives—briny, bold, and a great way to start the meal. They rotate their menu seasonally, and the current summer offerings were fresh and ingredient-forward, leaning Mediterranean but not strictly Italian. One standout was the salmon crudo—thinly sliced raw salmon paired with capers, evoking the richness of salmon lox but with the clean presentation of sashimi. It was a surprising and elegant bite that felt both decadent and refreshing. Although not on the summer menu, I ordered the beef tenderloin, and it was cooked perfectly to my liking. The rich, savory gravy elevated the dish and made it a satisfying contrast to the lighter starters. Orzo strikes a great balance between casual elegance and inventive cuisine. I loved the vibe, and I’d absolutely come back.

We enjoyed a business dinner for 9 people and had an fantastic experience. The atmosphere is great, the service is 1st class, and the food was excellant. They also had a great bar, albeit with limited seating, but looked like a great spot to hang and enjoy a nice meal. The Martini's are also very good. I look forward to eating here again. Appropriate for business, casual, and date nights.
William B — Google review
My first restaurant post-move-in to Charlottesville, and it was FANTASTIC! I cannot recommend Orzo enough, and I’m already starting to feel the charm of Virginia. The food was delicious, and so was the atmosphere. Shoutout as well to our server, Stephen, who made the night quite enjoyable. A friendly face is always comforting when moving to a new city, so having a kind server who took the time to chat with us was great. Once we were seated, we started with the 2020 Artimino Poggilarca Super Tuscan. The price was reasonable relative to the quality of the wine. Orzo is an Italian restaurant, so why not go with a Super Tuscan, am I right? Next time I might splurge on the Super-Duper Tuscan—haha! Moving on to the food, we started with the halloumi and some bread. The halloumi was delicious, and we all particularly loved the sauce that accompanied it. Stephen mentioned they made it with ouzo, which I usually do not care for, but cooking it together with the other flavors in the sauce changed my mind! The bread, I believe, is freshly baked, and they serve it with great olive oil. Having family in Italy and close friends from Greece means I’ve enjoyed great olive oil—and this was really good olive oil. For our mains, two of us had the Risotto D’Estate, one had the braised lamb, and another had the grilled fish. I do want to preface that the fish and the lamb were from their rotating “Passport Menu,” which Stephen said changes every 4–6 weeks. Regardless, the quality of the dishes tells me that whatever they have on this changing part of the menu will be good no matter what. The fish was a light, delicate cod with the right amount of smokiness and earthiness. The vegetables that came with the dish were well seasoned and not too mushy either. The braised lamb was very tender, and the quality of the meat was clearly good. The accompanying sauce had great flavors. For the two of us who had the risotto, we were also very happy! This is the dish I had, and it was a lovely blend of flavors. The pistachios in it balanced out the salty/sour-ish (not the best word, but you’ll know what I mean) flavor from the cheese in the dish. It was outstanding. Finally, we capped off the meal with a tiramisu, the chocolate pot de crème, and some limoncello. The limoncello, I should add, is made in-house—and OH, that was a treat! I didn’t try the tiramisu, but was told the creaminess was perfect. Some tiramisus can be too watery and the ladyfingers dry, but that was not the case here. Similarly, my pot de crème was to die for! I am a chocoholic and have been baking/making sweet treats for nearly a decade now, so I know a good dessert when I try one. The only thing they could add to their menu is espresso! They have regular coffee, but an espresso is really what I enjoy after dinner. Overall, we had a fabulous meal, and I cannot recommend Orzo enough. For my first culinary endeavor in my new home of Charlottesville, I could not be happier. Please check out Orzo—and say hello to my new friend Stephen.

The hummus was also very good. Always love a good baguette! This place did not disappoint!

We enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was very good. The food was delicious and we loved the bread and oil so much we ordered a second one. I would go again even though they got us in, I would make a reservation next time.

Today I had the chance to try this restaurant during Restaurant Week, and I was truly impressed by the delicious flavors and the warm, friendly service. At first, I thought the portions might not be enough but turns out, I had to push myself to finish all the way to dessert. By the last bite, I was absolutely stuffed!

Zocalo is a chic bistro that offers a fusion of Spanish, Mexican, and South American flavors along with tropical cocktails. Co-owned and operated by chefs Ivan Rekosh and Andrew Silver, who met at the Culinary Institute of America, the restaurant has received praise for its excellent food and top-notch service. Located in Charlottesville, Zocalo is known for its consistently delicious dishes.
Overall, it was pretty decent. The service was nice but so. The salmon and shrimp risotto were both pretty good nothing outstanding though. We also try their Apple cider bread, which tasted surprisingly light and good. I really really enjoy their Mojito. The desserts were fabulous. We got the Mexican chocolate bread, pudding, and the carrot cake. Both were wonderful.

A really amazing place at the downtown mall! Great Latin/spanish inspired cuisine. I was recently in Barcelona and all the dishes with manchego really took me back to eating there! My halibut was cooked perfectly with crispy skin! This was a daily special so I’m not sure how often it’s on the menu but I would recommend it if it is! My husband got the duck breast and for me it was a bit too sweet for a whole meal but he seemed to enjoy it. The savory bread pudding however was very very good! We had spent the day at the wineries so we didn’t get any drinks but both their cocktail and wine menu looked great, will definitely account for that next time!

Came here when it was rather empty and dinner just started. I had the spicy tuna to start and it was a lovely presentation. They were able to make it gluten and dairy free. I also had the duck with Swiss chard and side of my choice. I decided on spinach. It’s great that they ask about celiac and are aware of contamination. That’s a huge plus for accessibility. The duck was so good! I would have never thought cranberries on duck would pair together. If you’re in town and looking for an elevated place to go to, look no further.

I ate here with a group of 12. The staff were not very accommodating about splitting the check, though they did put a 20% on the bills. Food was decent. They mixed up at least 1 drink order getting an IPA and a Vienna Lager to the wrong people. I had scallops which were good. I would not recommend this place for large groups.

We ate at Zocolo after a Sunday afternoon show. No wait when we strolled in. The food was exceptional, we were very impressed. My wife had the duck with spinach and onion bread pudding. I had the chili relleno with black beans and corn. The relleno was nicely spiced without being overly hot. I also tried the spicy lady to drink, very good and quite spicy.

My fiancé and I went out to Zocalo and were absolutely blown away! Our server was very attentive and kind, checking in with us multiple times throughout the evening. Every single thing we ate was incredible, especially the spinach salad with fried oysters and halibut special with manchego risotto. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a date night out at this wonderful location!

The service was great! The food was delicious - it was great that they had so many mock-tails to choose from and their kids menu was great as well. The desserts were the perfect ending to our birthday celebration. A great restaurant to go to celebrate with a large party! HIGHLY RECOMMEND for out of towners like myself. I cant wait to go back when i am back in C’ville! THANK YOU ZOCALO TEAM

Our family had a great brunch here. The staff were super friendly and went out of their way to accommodate special requests, including checking in about allergies and making sure everything was safe. The food was delicious—especially the pumpkin muffins, which were fresh and just the right amount of sweet. Everyone in our group cleaned their plates. We left full and happy, and we’re already looking forward to coming back.

Sultan Kebab is a charming Turkish restaurant that offers a wide range of authentic dishes in a relaxed, art-adorned setting. The menu features an array of kebabs, vegetarian options, salads, homemade baklava, and traditional Turkish teas and coffees. Diners can savor succulent lamb kebabs, Iskender kebabs, shawarma, lamb kofte, hummus and kisir served on intricately designed traditional crockery.
We really like this place! All of the food tastes fresh and has great flavor. We came right before the dinner rush and were seated immediately, but the whole place was full by the time we got our food. It’s popular for a good reason! We shared the double meat platter with chicken and meatballs, it was delish!
Emme T — Google review
We ordered chicken kebab platter and lamb kebab platter for pickup. The restaurant was so pretty and super clean. The food tasted amazing but we were disappointed with the quantity of the meat given. The platter was full of rice but only one skewer of meat was given. It tasted amazing and authentic, was full of flavor as well, but for ~$20 a plate you would expect a lager quantity. I also would have liked some sauce with it but overall the food tasted good!

It was an amazing experience. We went 4 people without reservation and even it is Saturday night they arrange us a table right away. Staff were so friendly and kind. All the food we ordered was so delicious. Sultan kebab is my our new fav place. If you are looking for a great Turkish food Sultan Kebab is highly recommended

Wow... that Bulgar Wheat Pilaf is transcendental. The chicken is intensely savory and delicious. Kunefe? First time for me with that dish... I had no Idea Mozzarella could be dessert. Turkish coffee in a perfect little cup. Top Notch. Best Turkish Food I have ever had. Even the little side Turkish salad was tantalizing. Good Job guys.

It was our Go to place when we visit Charlottesville… but this visit was very average… their appetizer was very good but entree was very pricey but little too bland and very small portion for the price… Tge service was Okay.. the price is high and portions are very low taste also was just okay.. would have to Rethink visiting this place…
Prasanya M — Google review
The food is very very good . The only thing when you pay $20 for a dish it would be great to have more meat , it’s only one small skewer there.
Natalia R — Google review
Feels very overpriced for what you can get on a food truck. Nevertheless, the dessert is interesting. The funniest part is how I paid for a recommended platter and got 5 tiny lamb cubes, which left me hungry after I finish, while my friend got 4 giant lamb chops for nearly the same price, and he took home 2. I tried to ask for more protein and got served the same 5 hilariously tiny lamb chops for what I consider a very bad price. The restaurant is kind enough to let me refuse it tho. Avg $35 per person, would not recommend. PS: I now realize that the lamb might come from one bbq skewer, and there I go, 1 skewer for dinner, lol.

American restaurant
The Virginian, established in 1923, is a cherished local establishment in Charlottesville. It offers classic American cuisine within a charming rustic setting. This spot is popular among UVA alums and those seeking an authentic wahoo bar experience. Located on University Avenue, it's part of the city's rich dining history. The menu may not be gourmet, but it's all about embracing tradition and savoring their renowned 'Stumble Down Mac N' Cheese.'
We visited on a Monday night around 6:30pm. We were sat almost immediately and given prompt drink service. Our food arrived pretty swiftly after as well. The food was great, and the portions were generous. My only demerit for the service was that after we paid our check, our waitress never returned with the box I had requested. We waited for several minutes, and eventually I grabbed my own box.

Still very reminiscent of a bar and restaurant founded in the early 1900’s. The atmosphere was very good. Has an upper and lower level. The food is amazing! Great choices. Our food came out hot, fast, and correct. Service at first was very good. It tapered off after our food was served. There are a few TV’s, but not considered a sports bar. Price was reasonable at about $30 a person. We did not partake in any drink specials. Dinner menu starts at 5PM.

Service is very slow so be sure you have enough time before dining here. But the little outdoor seating is very nice on a sunny day and I really like the food. Prices are good!

Went for the institution it is. It's a tiny narrow restaurant. Service is good and food is nice too. We got a hummus platter and some drinks.
Vivek R — Google review
I came here on a whim for Sunday brunch today. It's an historic setting near campus, I suppose - maybe for someone who attended school here. ChatGPT highly recommended it, but the food was tragically underwhelming for the price. The coffee was the plain old weak restaurant variety and my table smelled of sour cleaning cloths. The service was OK, but not at all worth the hype, or the price. There are so many other better options nearby.
Jeff B — Google review
We waited 20 minutes before a waiter came over, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. We didn’t receive menus until they finally arrived, and the waiter never introduced themselves. The food took so long that one of us actually had to leave before it arrived. When they asked for a to-go box, they were bizarrely just handed a bag -- no box, which I’ve never seen before, in my life. The food itself was acceptable, but honestly, I’ve had much better here. Things only got worse when the check came. We were charged automatic gratuity for a party of five, and the excuse given was, “we always charge auto gratuity if we have to split checks.” On top of that, while some of us were getting cash out, the waiter left with our cards, and we had to chase them down. To finish it off, they didn’t even give us pens to sign the checks. Overall, a frustrating experience from start to finish. I’m definitely not coming back.

Everything from here is fantastic. I've visited many times. This time I tasted both my go-to everything bagel seasoned pastry pretzel and a seasonal king cake. The king cake had an almond that was so light and balanced and wasn't overly sweet. It was perfect. Highly recommend!

Perfect and delicious place for light breakfast & coffee- well, lattes. You can order a more robust & hearty breakfast, but we chose a variety of pastries - chocolate croissant, 2 other smaller ones (don’t recall names) and an apple tart. I wished that I would have taken photos of the beautiful decorated/stenciled in flour or powdered sugar breads & desserts- works of art! We got there just before the line had to moved outside, but it moved pretty quickly. We got our order to go, but we decided to sit down at a table that was available to enjoy it.
Melissa C — Google review
here are a few areas for outdoor seating and a small area inside for seating, as such, they were full and there was an hour wait for seating. We had time so we waited and it went much faster than expected. You order at the counter and get a number for your table. It is self-seating and no reservations. There's a separate nearby station which has silverware, condiments, and self-serve water. We ordered a London Fog, Latte, Almond Croissant, Parfait, Sharondale, and "Madame" (with an egg) Croquet Monsieur.

When I come to Charlottesville I always need to stop by MarieBette. Love this little café with its wonderful array of desserts. I must admit their cannelés are my weakness. Their quiches are delicious. I always leave with baguette, croissants, and a few other viennoiseries. Being French I can’t resist:) The atmosphere is great and the people working there are always helpful and kind. A must visit.

Perfect little specialty shop for coffee and baked treats. The caneles (pictured) are specifically what we stopped in to get while visiting Charlottesville. Also enjoyed a couple of iced coffees which complimented the pastries very nicely. The parking lot and pedestrian traffic stay pretty busy so be careful when pulling in or out of the lot.

This was our first time eating at Basil although actually we had carry out because of the Coronavirus. We ordered several dishes and ate them family style. We loved the hummus, spanakopita, and bruschetta!!! All 3 of those were delicious and we would definitely order those again. We thought the falafel and stuffed grape leaves were just fair and probably wouldn’t order again. Everything but the bruschetta came with hummus and pita triangles as well as lots of olives and small pickles. Lots of vegetarian options and we will order again sometime!!

Nestled in the heart of Charlottesville, Aromas Cafe and Catering is a delightful gem that offers a modern twist on classic Mediterranean cuisine. With an inviting atmosphere, it's the perfect spot for everything from casual lunches to special events. Guests rave about the attentive service provided by Moses and his team, who go above and beyond to ensure every detail is taken care of—making it an ideal choice for gatherings like reunions or celebrations.
I stopped in today for lunch and had an amazing eggplant parm and salad. The salad arrived first and had a delicious dressing. The wild greens mix was super fresh and the radishes were sliced to enjoy (not the way too thick mainstays). The eggplant parm was yummy because the eggplant were fried well and recent and the tomato sauce had a bit of spice which was a welcome twist. The food arrived quickly and I was in and out.

Ever since the new owner took over a few years back I am ecstatic of how open and honest the staff is. You see them working hard, you see the front of house staff hustling, and don’t even get me started on the food. Oy vay is an understatement of how good it is.

What a lovely surprise to find this pleasant lunch spot in the Department of Forestry building. The service was extra attentive, and the food was excellent. My felafel salad had felafel that had the perfect amount of crunch on the outside and a delicately seasoned center. I would definitely recommend a trip to Aromas.

Breakfast (and lunch) is excellent. Food is authentic mediterranean delivering exquisite taste while being healthy. Staff is friendly and will bend over backwards to accommodate. Wine selections are good too.

Just terrible. You walk in and are immediately put at ease by the very charismatic owner - you order some things, he makes suggestions and is very attentive, very chatty, always talking a lot. The food takes a long time to come. It is pretty good, but also a bit too expensive all things considered. Then the bill comes and it is egregious. The house special the owner "suggested" was $10 more than anything listed on the menu. The entire receipt is itemized and every drink, every dish has the same name "SPECIAL" and the price next to it. The owner suddenly switches to being absent and then extremely rude when you try to talk to him about the receipt. He does not help with figuring out what each item ordered was. He says they do not do separate checks. This guy is a crook. He pulls you in, is very chatty and over the top and tricks you into ordering a very expensive meal, creates a receipt system that makes it difficult to realize just how much he screwed you over, and then suddenly is quite angry and doesn't talk anymore or disappears.

Japanese restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Now & Zen is a modern and intimate eatery located in Charlottesville, Virginia. It offers classic sushi, eclectic Japanese and Asian mains, as well as vegan options. The restaurant provides a cozy dining experience with an extensive menu that caters to everyone. Toshi Sato, the owner and executive chef, is known for his exceptional sushi that rivals any on the East Coast. The restaurant's exquisite amalgamation of refined Asian delicacies showcases impeccable mastery of sushi and more.
This restaurant was phenomenal. I can't say more about how lovely the service was. I arrived with a work colleague about 15m before the location opened and met the busser/dishwasher out front who gave us all the best recommendations. He advised us to chat up the server who could advise us on exactly what to get. Boy was he correct! Tell your waiter what your preferences are and they can make recommendations to satisfy your taste. What a phenomenal experience! Wine, saki, sashimi, sushi, miso soup, flan.... The entire experience was a 10.
Jessica A — Google review
Our recent dining experience at Now & Zen offered a delightful mix of dishes, highlighting their strengths with a few areas for potential enhancement. Here’s a closer look: The Pokebowl was undoubtedly the star of our meal, featuring impeccably fresh ingredients that blended harmoniously to create a truly enjoyable dish. Each component was well-balanced, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to quality and flavor. While the California Maki showcased creativity by using avocado instead of mangoes, it provided a creamy twist that, while enjoyable, missed the usual fruity sweetness we expected. It’s a unique take that might appeal to those looking for a different flavor profile. The Tempura Roll, while not as standout as the Pokebowl, still offered a decent crunch and flavor. It complemented the meal well, though it didn’t leave as strong of an impression as some of the other dishes. The Beef Gyudon pleasantly surprised us with its flavorful combination of tender beef and well-seasoned rice. It was a comforting and satisfying choice that showcased the kitchen’s skill in preparing traditional Japanese dishes. The only disappointment was the Spicy Ramen, which lacked the depth and richness we anticipated. It resembled instant ramen more than a gourmet bowl, missing the mark compared to the other offerings. Overall, Now & Zen excels in delivering delicious dishes like the Pokebowl and Beef Gyudon, highlighting their ability to create satisfying flavors. With some adjustments to dishes like the California Maki and Spicy Ramen, they could elevate their entire menu to consistently impressive levels.

I made a 4 hour trip to find out the owner recently changed. Not that there is anything wrong with someone buying a business, but the food was simply terrible. The rice was not cooked properly for sushi. I am not sure if they keep the sushi inventory at proper temperature. Wasabi looked like it was about to go bad. Sushi cuts for chirashi were too big and not trimmed properly. Rolls were sticked together. Some parts of rice were more sour. Everything was edible. But chirashi bowl and rolls were worse than some of the better made supermarket sushi. The lady that looked like a new owner asked me how everything was when I was heading out. I was about to tell her the above points in the hopes that the place gains back its old quality. But she turned her head and walked away immediately after asking me the question. I still hope the new owner reads this and improves the quality for their own sake.
Woojin K — Google review
So this was my first time dining in. The place was very small. It was packed when I was there. We had to order everything at once. We ordered way too much (1 giant roll, 3 regular rolls, and a bowl of spicy edamame). The sushi was good, but it took a while for us to get it. Portions were big. Plenty of Vegetarian options available on the menu. The giant rolls are HUGE. Overall dine-in experience was okay. Food was pretty good. Price was acceptable. We’ve ordered to-go sushi from there before and we didn’t like it. They were rude and I’m pretty sure they automatically threw a 20% tip on the bill. I didn’t appreciate that because I like to choose tip based off or performance, value, and kindness. All in all. It’s good, but you have to be in a good mood and ready for anything to come your way. I would return, especially when I get the sushi itch

Spicy tuna and salmon are spicy with Tabasco sauce!!! It was so interesting and so gross that I didn’t finish the meal. Also, the rolls were mostly rice.

We had a group of 9 and the experience at Now and Zen was fantastic! The service was attentive and friendly, and everything ran smoothly even with a large party. The food was delicious, highly recommend the Spider Roll and the Lychee Martini (a perfect combo!). Great spot for both groups and smaller gatherings. We’ll definitely be back!

I arrived around 6 and the restaurant was very packed. I went to the bathroom before sitting down and they had a cool disco ball and the lights were off. The ambiance was cool but I believe there was bodily fluids on the floor that I stepped in so all while seated and eating I could smell bodily fluids. Good prices, sushi is not the best construction I’ve ever seen. Ordered the 3 piece combo, server got one of the three wrong but that was quickly corrected. Taste-wise salmon tasted a little old, the bottoms of the rolls were slanted, and fish-to-rice proportion favored rice. Soy sauce tasted slightly acidic. One of the plates was chipped, wasabi was old, ginger was old.

Went with my husband and daughter for a birthday celebration. The sushi was excellent, the small plate we tried was also extremely good, the waiter was incredibly helpful and well informed. The atmosphere was casual and unfussy. We’ll be returning.

If you're planning a getaway to the Charlottesville area, consider staying in an AirBnb or house rental for your bachelorette party. This option not only provides a cozy atmosphere but also places you near stunning wineries in charming towns like Crozet, Ivy, Afton, and Barboursville. These locations allow you to immerse yourself in nature while enjoying the local wine scene without breaking the bank on hotel costs. While you're exploring this beautiful region, don't miss out on Ivy Provisions!
What do I love most about Ivy Provision's? That they remind me of home in Virginia Beach decades ago when TASTE Unlimited first opened. Better yet I respect the overall operation after a single visit and know they have their act together. Ivy Provisions is located just outside UVA grounds make it very convenient for this HOO Dad to check out the first time. Of course I looked at their reviews, menu and photos of sandwiches to properly vet. I was astonished and made this a must stop. I caught them at a good time on a weekday before close and better yet knew they were featuring lobster rolls on the Ivy Provisions Instagram feed. Parking was easy in their own lot. The non commercialized building was a welcome site. This is the one and only Ivy Provisions. Grab a bag of chips, salad or treat with a bottle drink as you head to the counter of Ivy's cozy space. The young gentleman was friendly and efficient with answering a few questions. My wife ordered the Gobbfather which is a Turkey Melt on white. I ordered the lobster roll special. Seating is all outdoors on the patio. Food orders are prepared and sent out in a bag through the window, you will find utensils and napkins in this location. The area was clean. The restroom is gender neutral and was also clean with proper supplies. My wife enjoyed her turkey melt and found it so big she could not finish. My lobster roll I had no problem dusting off. It was a beautiful roll with fresh Maine lobster and soft roll. Total home run. Find me back at Ivy Provisions the next time in Charlottesville. A full 5 stars and job well done all around.

Tea house
Hookah bar
Restaurant
Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar is a unique spot in Charlottesville, Virginia that offers a laid-back setting with an adjacent hookah lounge. The interior is whimsical and magical, featuring Persian carpets, hanging fabrics, couches, pillows, and a huge winding 'tree trunk' holding various tea accoutrements. The menu boasts an excellent selection of loose-leaf teas and vegetarian-friendly options. The place also hosts live music events and offers beer and wine.
Funky and bohemian style tea house right in the heart of downtown. There's a nice comfy seating area by the window so you can watch people pass by below while enjoying your tea and perhaps a good doodling. Tried their masala Chao today. Was creamy and sweet. Has enough spices. Lovely spot in the back is set up as a hookah lounge. There's also rooftop /outdoor seating as well.

This was such a quaint spot to stop into while browsing the Downtown Mall area of Charlottesville! It’s a little hidden and we stumbled upon it by accident, but I believe that adds to the charm of the place. It’s on the top floor so you will need to walk up steps and I didn’t see an elevator for those with mobility concerns. At the top you’re greeted by a Bedouin themed area with both table and chair seating and traditional Bedouin style seating (low tables and cushions for seats). There is also a private seating area in the back with similar Bedouin style seating and a few outdoor table/chair seats. Although it has varying tea options, there were a decent amount of food options as well. The restaurant is vegetarian with a decent number of vegan options as well. They do also have the option to add salmon to some of their dishes if you prefer meat protein. Vegetarian/Vegan/Gluten Free options are labeled on the menu so no need for guessing. We ordered Blossoming Tea, the Smoked Salmon Sandwich with a side of Dahl, the Coconut Cardamon Cake, and the Vegan Spice Cake. First time trying dahl so for those who also haven’t tried it before, it’s made of lentils so tastes like a grainer porridge. We enjoyed the spice cake but found the Cardamon Teacake a tad dry. The Smoked Salmon Sandwich was wonderful. As a tea enthusiast this was a great visit, but this is also a must visit if you just want a cool place to take a break or if you want a cozy spot to eat. Will visit again if in town. pics via @nokesidefoodie

a unique combination of tea and tasty-and-healthy food. I have recently moved from Charlottesville to the west coast, and have not yet found a place that rivals the Tea Bazaar's home-made chai or home-made soups. if you live in Charlottesville, you must go to Tea Bazaar weekly, at a minimum. it would be a disservice to your body and mind to do otherwise :P

Guajiros Miami Eatery is a hidden gem in Charlottesville, offering the best Cuban sandwiches in town and a delightful Latin-inspired breakfast menu. Located near the train tracks on West Main Street, this unassuming restaurant boasts a cozy Miami coffee bar where guests can choose from a variety of breakfast and lunch options.
I needed breakfast and wanted something different. This place was not far from the hotel and came well recommended. I was greeted warmly and led to a nice table. The waitress stopped by quickly and also had a friendly greeting. The breakfast menu was wonderful, but my eye went to the Cuban sandwich, which came with warm plantain chips It was delicious 😋 They have a nice selection of hot sauces. I tried a few and they did not disappoint. Friendly folks, good service and tasty food. I will visit again.

Yes and yes! Tried a bit of everything (tapas family style) with the five of us. The drinks well crafted. The food was an experience in itself (so good) and the staff was very attentive. Highly recommend if you are in town.Note: parking can be a challenge

Loved our breakfast here! Service was friendly and quick, and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. 10/10, will come back here. Patio seating with games out front, clean bathrooms and plenty of space inside. Parking lot to the side wasn’t full, with one hour parking. Other parking options available with a small walk, but this experience was very smooth from start to finish for us.

Simply incredible, some of the best brunch we've had! Super fun International Sodas and Coffee, tried the Cafe Bombon and it was great. Tostones Rellenos is unique and savory, especially the plantain cup filling, and Chicharron de Cerdo is a flavorful and textural adventure, a must-try for any pork-belly lover! Huevos Guajiros is a truly impeccable dish, a generous helping of the most delicious eggs we've had. Food came out super fast, too, with fast and friendly service to boot! Charming decor and awesome massive window, as well, so glad we stopped in.

From the moment we walked in, we knew this restaurant was special. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between warm and lively—filled with the aroma of slow-cooked meats, garlic, and spices that instantly transport you to Miami. The food is nothing short of phenomenal. The What truly sets this place apart, though, is the service. Every staff member was attentive, friendly, and eager to share recommendations, making the entire experience feel personal and welcoming. We’ll be coming back again and again. Highly recommend!
Shane O — Google review
It’s definitely a unique atmosphere, with a lot of Miami and Florida themed decor. We got seated pretty quickly given how large our party was and how busy the place was. The reception waiter was a bit rude though and acted like we couldn’t comprehend basic logic. The El Nacional dish was very good, delicious and good presentation, although I was hoping for bigger servings.
Tikki — Google review
We had been on our way to a different breakfast place near UVA but stumbled upon Guajiros while searching for parking. This was a lucky find! Despite not being especially hungry at first, the menu quickly changed that. The menu, which many have already posted, is a showcase of Cuban comfort food, packed with plantains, pork prepared in several ways, pressed pork and steak sandwiches, beans, rice, eggs, OH MY! It was a whirlwind of food that I don't even remember what any of the dishes were called! So glad we saw the "Open" sign while circling block after block looking for parking! Guajiros turned out to be a perfect and unexpected breakfast spot. The atmosphere was very laid back and service was awesome. Food came much more quickly than expected. I still don't know how the one server was able to handle the entire dining area. She was amazing! Will definitely return if I'm back in Charlottesville again.

Tilman's is a wine-focused spot located directly on the mall, offering a similar vibe to its sister restaurant, Tonic. It's an ideal place to enjoy great wine and delicious paninis while watching the pedestrian traffic of the downtown mall. The happy hour specials for food and wine are quite popular, and guests can even bring their own bottle with just a corkage fee. This great wine bar also serves sandwiches and small plates like the hearty Fitzroy.
We had a delightful experience at Tilman's! We stopped for a happy hour snack and had wine and cheese, cocktails and the most amazing butternut squash soup we have ever tasted!
Jennifer R — Google review
Recently my wife and I were early for a dinner reservation and luckily happened upon Tilman’s for a quick round. They have a solid selection of drinks, even spirit free for those who don’t partake. Unfortunately we were short for time so we didn’t have time to check out their shop, which appeared to be well stocked.
Jeremy K — Google review
Not inexpensive but always worth it. For takeout. They always have orders ready on time and for dine in the service is always good. The ingredients they use are always fresh and the food while smaller is clean and robust. Great for lunch and brunch. Weekdays or weekends and their cheese offerings are fantastic. A must for locals or tourists, will not fail.
Jd — Google review
To begin, my wife and I didn't know what to expect with this gem along the downtown pedestrian mall in Charlottesville, but it was an intriguing concept given the counter service for ordering. We're so glad we made the decision. They were quite attentive in the sense of bringing food and drinks out right away, refilling out water carafe and engaging in conversation when that was appropriate. As you can see from my photos, there's a bit of a store concept also here with unique food and beverage related products. Because we hadn't been here before, we did opt for reservations. It is worth noting that dining at the bar in the back was another option. We both had european style sandwiches which were quite delicious and on the lighter side, which is what we wanted this particular evening. That also helped to keep the cost down. The cocktail I had was lovely as well. This was a great example of being rewarded for being open to a new experience, which is what travel is (or should be) ultimately all about. Check it out!
Mark H — Google review
The service was stellar, the cheese selection is great, the wine/cocktail options are decent, but I think the food is largely 3/5 stars. The pickle plate is lackluster and they sell a bland salsa under the name of “a tomato and onion gazpacho”. That said, the brie, fig, and speck crostini was good. I think we just ordered the wrong things - play it safe and come for the cheese/wine.
Dylan P — Google review
Everything is on the pricey side, but food and drinks were delicious. Intimate, cozy vibes. Great for a casual date night. The servers all seemed like they didn't want to be there.
Brooke S — Google review
The speck crostini was delicious. We sat on the patio and it was lovely. Ask for Lara if you are here - she was wonderful! So attentive and kind.
Rachel — Google review
Really nice little spot on the downtown mall. They do a happy hour from 3-6pm where there are several wines by the glass for about $6. I tried some of the cheeses, and they were great. They have numerous meats, cheeses, and food for sale there, along with a selection of wine from various parts of the world. The bar has about 8-10 seats, and there are also a few small tables. If you want to do a sandwich there for lunch you can sit at the window and watch people walk by. Only downside is on occasion you'll get a short pour (this didn't happen to me, but a friend had that happen).

The atmosphere is such a nice vibe, they did a great job decorating. The food was outstanding. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer, which was one of the best dips I’ve tasted. Most are watery but this one was thick and full of flavor. I would recommend ordering it with the bread (you get to choose between bread or chips). Our server was fantastic- friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend.

Came in for lunch with family. There were two tables with patrons when we got there but then got busy within 15 mins. Unfortunately, only one server and one person manning the bar. Server was quite good but with the lunch surge, most of the food came close to room temp. Food was good but definitely could have been better served hot I don't fault the server as she tried her best to run the floor. Should really have someone bussing and helping bring food out at the very least if only one server working the floor. Would recommend "the pig" if you like a lot of meat on your pizza. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was good. Ribs were "ok", again warm, not hot. The Sampson burger with the fried Mac and Cheese was actually quite delicious.

Looking for a good hamburger and a beer! The bistro hamburger was cooked perfectly! It just didn't have any discernible cheese! Very small and bun was stale! I did enjoyed the beer $10 for a pint ! The menu listed the hamburger at $17 but they charge me $18! Nice atmosphere! Service was quirky youthfulness! I didn't feel connected but she did a good job! Very responsive! My wife loved the crab cake sandwich at $25! I think burtons burger is much better! We chose the place because it was convenient located! After spend $75 for ver mediocre food, I was a little disappointed! I think I could find something i could like at an affordable price! The fries wend beyond pedestrian quality! Zero quality! The sad part was I was still hungry afterwards! The waitress certainly try to up sale ! It just gave me a blah feeling!

Got the smallest portion of fish and chips I have ever seen in my life. My buddy and I both thought they had brought out the kids portion. For 23 bucks, I expected way more. In the photo some fried had been eaten but that's all the fish you get. Might as well give us 5 fish sticks and call it a day! Ridiculous.
Kyle H — Google review
Got a pizza to go. Like some other reviews stated, the pepperoni is burnt or charred. I happen to like that. So if you don’t, don’t order it! Crust was decent, charred a little as well. It’s a very light pizza so I’d say slightly pricy for what it is, especially since they forgot a topping I paid to add on. But, convenient to my hotel across the street. Not bad if they remembered the chopped garlic but I didn’t see or taste any. The crumbles in the picture are the sausage, crushed red pepper and Parmesan. Not garlic.
Kevin A — Google review
Very good service Warm and welcoming atmosphere Average tasting food Extremely limited vegetarian options ( only 1 as per the menu) Cost is very high in relation to the taste and experience Our server was very friendly, added 2 star for her in overall rating.
Nikhil D — Google review
The mini burgers were pretty good, the Cobb salad was okay. Would have been better if I could ask for a side of BBQ but the waiter was never around or really checked in on us during the meal.
Chezna — Google review
I went to the restaurant at 4:45 pm on June 6. A few patrons there, 6 or so. We were promptly seated. After about 15-20 minutes a wait person came by. This was rather odd, as the same waitress passed by several times, then went back to checking her phone. We must not have looked hungry. I order the crab soup, and my wife ordered the chicken sandwich. The order came fairly fast. The soup - the only way I can describe it - take a small bowl of water, add 2 boxes of salt and some dirty dishwater, and that is what it looked and tasted like. It was so bad, it took my breathe away when I first sipped it. I asked the wait person not to charge me and they took it off the bill. The sandwich and fries - typical middle of the road meh you get at most mall eateries. I give this place about 8, maybe 10 months before it folds. And I think that is being generous.

I’ve been going to this place about once a month since it opened. I generally love it. But the last two times they really skimped on the amount of ingredients (except for the rice). I’ve gone often enough to know how much is standard. And this time I came away with about half the ingredients you usually get. Given that they weigh the proteins, I can only assume this is intentional. But I will give it one more time. If they keep skimping, it’s probably dead to me.
Jason D — Google review

A great idea to have sushi ingredients without the fancy options of rolls. Good kotona, and very hygienic. Unlike other chain processing places, like roots or chopped, all bowls are cleaned before using as well as the mixers. Could improve but using oil based plastic bowls.
Kwok N — Google review
I'm so confused?? Maybe it's because I got delivery but my bowl had so little food, it didn't even fill up half of the plastic container. It was really disappointing since it's more expensive than the place in Newcomb but i got like half the amount of food.

We stumbled upon this little place on a warm day and it was a perfect place for lunch. You walk in and have a choice of selecting a pre-existing salad or a sheet where you can create your own salad. There are name tags for the former, and order slips for the latter, that you bring to the counter. And in a few minutes you have your salad, along with a variety of drink options. I got the Palmyra, a vegan salad, with (among other things) tofu, quinoa, and a lovely vinaigrette on a great bed of greens. But there are salads of all kinds, so you will find something you are excited about. Glad to find this place, would love to eat here again.

I enjoy that this establishment offers downtown cville an alternative to burgers and such for lunch. KEEP IN MIND I USED TO COME HERE FREQUENT. However, there is laxk or consistency in all areas- Food quality, customer service, portions and PRICING. THE prices are marked differently on the website menu, outside menu and the inside menu. The short heavy set (woman/man) with a short mohawk was RIDICULOUSLY RUDE. When ordering she got snappy when her to repeat what she said due to the noise level. Upon paying, I purchased one Southwester salad and my total was close to $13. I did not even purchased a drink or added extra items the website says that item upon paying I purchase one salad and my total was close to $13. I did not even purchase a drink or add extra items. I asked about the breakdown on price since 1. I am a frequent customer and 2. the price on the website, outdoor menu AND indoor menue were all inconsistent- they WENT OFF saying “thats the price for the salad. Take it or leave it.” I will never go this establishment again.

Great Harvest Bakery & Cafe is a delightful haven for bread lovers, specializing in artisanal whole-grain breads and muffins crafted from premium Montana wheat. Each day, the bakery comes alive as they handcraft their signature loaves using simple, high-quality ingredients like fresh-ground whole wheat, yeast, salt, and honey. The aroma of freshly baked goods greets you at the door with complimentary slices offered to every visitor.
If you are anywhere near Charlottesville VA, you should stop at the Great Harvest Bread Co. They are so much more than a “bakery”. They actually mill their own flour and wheat on a mill stone (from wheat berries so it’s as fresh as it can possibly be ) so the consumer gets the cleanest and freshest products possible. The 100% whole grain oatmeal cookies are worth every cent. You won’t find better. The raspberry cream cheese scuffin is also a must. The Monkey bread is in a tin, you just pull off the plastic, put it in the oven and devour the results. If you don’t stop in here, you’ll regret it.

We now order from here for our monthly staff meetings. 10/10 highly recommend anything coming out of the building! We've had several breads, scones, muffins, brownies, sandwiches.....all incredible!

The owners (I think they were the owners, or just very passionate staff) are beyond kind and stuffed us with delicious samples while we waited for our sandwiches! They seem very passionate about their baking and were explaining the different options to us. The sandwiches were very healthy. I eat vegetarian so I opted to get one of their hot grilled cheese without turkey, so the person making my sandwich kindly added extra veggies since I wasn’t getting turkey. The baked goods are all very freshly made (you can see them making fresh breads). I highly recommend coming here, especially if you run on the Butterfly Greenway, this is a nice stop afterwards for food.

We absolutely LOVE Great Harvest in C’Ville! Every time we visit they’ve got amazing free samples and we always end up getting a new loaf of bread, sandwich or sweet treat. The staff is super friendly and they offer great recommendations on how to enjoy our bread even more at home. The cinnamon chip French toast was a game changer!

My roast beef sandwich was delicious… a few things to make it amazing. More horseradish sauce on the sandwich or a extra serving on the side. I ordered and paid for extra roast beef… when I got my sandwich I thought if I didn’t get and pay for extra meat it would be very disappointing. Perhaps add something extra for no charge like a bag of chips or cookie because $21 for a sandwich and a soda was a lot

Zinburger is a modern chain restaurant that specializes in creative gourmet burgers and shakes as well as wine, local beers and cocktails. The farm salad is not only delicious, but it is also oh so aesthetically pleasing. This finely chopped salad packs in a long list of vegetables that are tied together with a tangy champagne vinaigrette and a generous portion of feta cheese. Can a salad get much better?
The staff here is super friendly and helpful. They ask about your food allergies and make sure that your food needs are met. Great burgers and great fries. Prices are decent and the environment is great. There are plenty of televisions to watch sports.

Great food and service. Our server Amelia was friendly, informative, and perfectly attentive. The burgers were delicious. Zin does not have as many options as Burger Bach, but their service is far superior. So we found our new gourmet burger spot. Zin also gives the option to upgrade your Patty to Kobe or Prime Rib. The Aoli Truffle Fries were awesome and the Strawberry Mojito was alright, I don't drink enough mojitos to know what a bad one is. Overall great experience; delicious food and awesome service.

Food is good. Service was ok. Our server was pretty busy but he was trying and was exceptionally pleasant. We were seated near the door and the hostess was hilariously terrible at all human interaction. She would cut people off (mere inches from slamming into them) to open the door for customers leaving and then stand in the doorway forcing them to shimmy out sideways. Before they had even managed to get all the way out of the door, she would charge back inside to go play on her phone. All this while the restaurant was busy. It was like a free show while we ate. 10/10 for candid camera. Anyway, here's a picture of the chili fries.

The Market at Preston offers a convenient stop for both fuel and food. Customers can earn points by following the steps to pump gas, although it may be a bit confusing at first. The catering service is reliable and provides delicious food for events, with the team being helpful during pick-up. Visitors appreciate the friendly staff and enjoy the tasty sandwiches available. The market's staff members are highly praised for their exceptional service, especially Loretta, and the signature sandwiches are highlighted as excellent.
A Truly Enjoyable Market Experience I truly enjoy my visits to the Market, largely thanks to the outstanding staff and welcoming atmosphere. The two women who manage the morning rush lines are consistently pleasant and efficient, always greeting each person with a smile. One of them, in particular, consistently makes it a point to say good morning, no matter how busy it gets. The biscuits are always a highlight—consistently fresh and delicious. The morning team in the deli also deserves special mention for their amazing service, always greeting customers warmly before taking an order. Having recently started frequenting this market, I've become a big fan. The combination of professionalism and a comforting atmosphere makes it a truly great place to visit. The rewards system is also a win win

I stopped in to grab a quick lunch to take to the Park. It was a nice day. A sweet lady waited on me and and packed my chicken box and by the time I got to the register, she was there also. Your team was polite and taking care of customers as fast as they could. Very pleasant experience.

I went into the Market today for the first time. I bought the Montpellier. It was a fantastic sandwich. I just wish it'd had a little more horseradish mayo on it. If I'd known how little there was, I'd have asked for more. The workers were very pleasant and gave me recommendations. I want to try them all.

I come here almost every day, for drinks, for food it’s normally my go to because of convenience of the location and the staff that is usually there (two women in the morning and Tony at checkout who are great) but my experience the past 2 times has been very bad. I ordered on the screen, and then proceeded to not get any service for the food that I ordered. Both times I waited 30 minutes with other customers recieving food before me and the guy behind the counter standing there. I get it man I work in retail, but when I only have 30 minutes of lunch how can I afford to wait 30 minutes for a sandwich that never comes? Two times in a row! It’s just very dissapointing. I don’t think I’ll come back until they can figure out what is going on with the guy who makes the food on Mondays. I really love this place and want to continue to shop here but I will go somewhere else because of this. Tony was great providing me a refund but the one behind the food counter was not helpful in the slightest.

Love their sandwiches! Always very consistent, fresh, delicious. Enjoy the market rewards program as well as events that they have at their local stores. Their staff are always very welcoming.

Chickadee is a charming Southern-style sandwich shop located near the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville. They offer a diverse menu that includes breakfast and lunch options, served all day until 3:00 PM. The restaurant prides itself on its fresh in-house bread and innovative, delicious dishes prepared with great attention to detail. Customers rave about the exceptional service and welcoming atmosphere, whether dining inside the aesthetically pleasing interior or enjoying the shade outside.
My family stumbled upon the place looking for something to eat due to our original plans not panning out and man were we all so happy for it. This spot is an absolute gem. The tater grits were smacking. My sister who doesn't even like grits loved them. The sandwiches were amazing. Everyone loved their meals and we were already trying to figure out if we could come again during this trip. The best part of the experience was the service. Couldn't of been a kinder group of people. Wish I could come here more truly
Marshal T — Google review
We absolutely love Chickadee. It’s hard to choose what to order because their menu is small, but very mighty! We’ve been pleased with everything we’ve ordered, from coffee/cold brew to entrees to alcoholic drinks. It’s quickly become our favorite brunch spot, and we are folks who eat a lot of brunch!
Sarah R — Google review
This little place is a gem. The people are very friendly and the food is delicious. The sub rolls are fantastic and the fries are really good. I'm vegetarian so I haven't tried the whole menu but the options for me are all quite tasty.
Missy V — Google review
Delicious food, fantastic service and I appreciate the attention to detail about my food allergy. The grits tots are a game changer - my husband doesn’t usually eat grits - but these cubes of scrumptiousness won him over.
Sharon L — Google review
The best restaurant in Charlottesville- I want to say that right out of the gate for anyone trying to figure out where to go and doesn't want to read a long review, so go, go now. Order the turkey sandwich, or the Italian. The menu names are over-the-top creative- a conceit I grew weary of twenty years ago- but this food is so good that it can bear the weight of my world-weary cynicism and I can order a sandwich called "The drum fill form In the Air Tonight" with more than just a straight face, but with an eager smile. The options are not simple- there is nary an offering that doesn't sport half a dozen components, but before you start trying to edit the text, just give it a read the way it's intended. These people know what they're doing. It's not just food they're making, it's culinary poetry. Now the details. My first five times at this place were carry-out at work, and five times in a row I had exclaimed, "this is the best sandwich in Charlottesville," and later, in all honestly, "This is the best sandwich I've ever had!" I am not being hyperbolic. I truly believe it. The ingredients colorful, even jarring, almost peacocking to see which one is either the more luxurious or the more madcap (bologna I'm looking at you). But I'll paraphrase the song "The Waters of March," IT'S THE BREAD, IT'S THE BREAD. The bread, made in-house with what must be oppressive regularity to the baker, is rich and aromatic, delicate and hearty at the same time, and it holds up to both the fireworks show of ingredients and to any of the sandwiches' residual moisture content (carryout people, you know the sorrow wet bread- here it's a bonus). The restaurant is pristine in the way only a new place can be, but it's maintained. I went in right after the brunch rush and it might as well have been freshly opened. Bathrooms- top notch. Finally staff- as I said we came in after what was likely a busy Sunday brunch, but the entire FOH was involved, efficient and ran the floor with an informal teamwork that was- to this industry vet- a delight to see. As first time dine-in-ers we were given some extra attention but it was never more than was welcome. Finally- great drinks! Strong, pretty drinks! This review has gone on long enough, and I hesitated to write it. I dread the day I have to wait in line for my favorite restaurant, but better wait in line for an AJ Soprano (yep), than to never have one again. You have been warned. BEST RESTAURANT IN CHARLOTTESVILLE.

The Grit tots are crisped perfectly on the outside, and not over-seasoned. They maintain their grit essence while elevating the holy southern grit to new heights, and this is elevated by the pepper jelly they’re served with. Highly recommend.

Delicious food. Fun decor. Great service. Parking can be a little tricky. The music was a little loud for being able to hear each other talking. Seating area is somewhat small. The staff was great and the food was fun, unique, and fresh.

As much as I miss the former tenant, Bluegrass, I’ve got to say - Welcome Chickadee, glad to have you! I’ve been several times for brunch and lunch and haven’t had a bad meal yet! If you're in the mood for a delicious brunch, Cafe Caturra is the perfect spot. With options for everyone, this European-inspired restaurant has something for everyone to enjoy. From croissant French toast to biscuits and gravy to mac n cheese, there's really nothing that this cozy bistro can't make amazing.
Never thought a wild rice and lentil salad could be so delicious! The whole dish is rice and lentils based -not rice and lentils on top of salad. Even more filling with salmon added and the perfect amount of goat cheese. Super impressed and want to make this at home!
Amanda C — Google review
The service was subpar, I actually felt like we were inconveniencing the waitstaff. He seemed very uninterested in getting us a table and even suggested I would steal his pen. The food...blah. The chicken on my salad was so overdone and chewy. My salad came out warm and wilted. The Mac and cheese was okay, pretty soupy. Will not recommend or be returning.
Hillori W — Google review
Hate to say it, because my husband and I really used to enjoy cafe caturra, but recently (since they changed their menu, maybe?) it's not been all that great. We ordered through OrderUp and when our food arrived we were sorely disappointed. My husband's panini was very small (we honestly thought he only got half a sandwich), and his side salad was practically all lettuce with almost no feta and ~5 cranberries. My chicken w/ wine & mushroom sauce with blue cheese grits contained a pretty minimal drumstick and "maybe" a thigh? It was absolutely swimming in the wine sauce (husband thought it was soup) that was so salty I couldn't finish my relatively small portion. The grits drowned. They had a nice flavor at first, but because of the sauce, they were covered with, they just sort of assumed the same overpowering saltiness. It really is a shame because we used to love this place (which is why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1) . Don't know what happened. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good food and service, however we like to dine in the upstairs area and find it is too often closed for no apparent reason. The upstairs area is more comfortable and quiet, a more enjoyable area that improves the dining experience.

The restaurant was pretty dead... The service was so slow. The waitress was inattentive. The bartender was on his phone and paid no attention. The other bartender was to busy to talking. Food was good but pricey

Organic Krush Kitchen & Eatery at the Shops at Stonefield is a popular spot for those seeking super healthy salad bowls. Their coconut shrimp and salmon toppers are highly recommended, and you can either create your own bowl or choose from their menu. The restaurant also serves breakfast all day, and their cold-pressed juices are offered at a 50% discount the day before they expire.
We came for dinner and really liked our bowls and the sauces. The cashier was really helpful/lovely talking us through their menu. (I think it’s cool they serve breakfast all day!) We also got 2 juices since they are 50% off the day before they expire. I think cold juices are usually really overpriced so I thought this was a fun option! The cashier also offered a free chia pudding since everything is organic it needed to be eaten

Lot of hope for this place. Ordered the Austin Chicken on a Whole Wheat Wrap with a side of Kimchi. I was the first of 4 orders that cycled through in the 25 mins I waited for my food to be prepared. When I did receive the my meal sadly my wrap only consisted of chicken, corn, tomato, and avocado missing onions, cilantro, & the smoked paprika dressing. Not only was the wrap disappointing, the side of kimchi was very small (see photo attached) This won’t deter me from trying again since I believe they are still working out the kinks. I will update my review after the second visit but today was really disappointing.

Super friendly staff and so delicious! I built my own bowl and the donuts are amazing! I love what they stand for and it is great to see health conscious restaurants popping up more and more!

So..... the cost. Be prepared to pay a premium. I ordered a Thai bowl (23.00).. no meat... extra kale, broccoli, cabbage and kimchi. I paid 2.25 for kale and there were 5 leaves. Five. The dressing was forgotten on my order. The amount of food wasn't consistent with extra charges. The concept here is fantastic, the execution needs some work. If the charges are going to be comparable to a sit down meal, the attention to detail needs to be improved. This being said, the bowl tasted wonderful. I'll make a home version to eat for several days that will cost the same as one bowl in store. This will be a treat-only place.

I went for the first time last weekend, and I was really impressed! I ordered a “make it yourself” bowl with brown rice, black beans, kale, avocado, cilantro, onions, and the lemon herb dressing. It was a good sized portion and so satisfying. I am looking forward to going back and trying their juices and smoothies, too. Plus, I liked that they listed out a lot of ingredient info on the wall, including the oil they cook with (olive). Plenty of vegan options. Overall, a great experience.

This is a great healthy option for a quick meal! Food was great but even more importantly, it was made with quality ingredients I can feel good about feeding my family. We dined in and played cards. The space is very comfortable and the staff was super helpful. There are some awesome pastries you can’t even believe are almost healthy. My kids are psyched. They haven’t had a donut in ages and loved them! Looking forward to lots of convenient meals in the future I know are healthy!

Alexis had the most incredible customer service ever / their entire team was so kind, the menu options were incredible and it was the fastest service ever - not to mention the space itself is so lovely. Can't recommend enough.

I've been waiting for this restaurant to open ever since I saw the sign go up. This past weekend we tried it for lunch and everyone from ages 9 to 66 was so happy with the space's food, service, and cleanliness. I got the Mexican coffee smoothie with vegan chocolate protein, which was delicious! The tofu was cooked perfectly. I can't wait to go back and eat my way through their menu. We are so happy to have a healthy option so close to us, welcome to the 'hood, Organic Krush!
