Oshino Hakkai is a picturesque village located in Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, between Yamanaka Lake and Kawaguchi Lake. The village features eight ponds known as the "eight seas of Nunye," which are fed by melted snow water from Mount Fuji. This natural filtration process results in cool and pure spring water that has been revered for over 1,200 years.
This area seems very magical and surreal. The traditional houses are well preserved and nicely maintained. The clear water in those ponds and creek are very calming. It is a very popular tourist destination so there are many loud and annoying tourists as well.
World E — Google review
A very special indeed museum village which is an UNESCO World Heritage site. The village has 8 ponds which are considered sacred to the pilgrims who go to visit Fujisan. On a perfect day you can see the best views of Mount Fuji from the village. There is no entrance fee to visit the ponds and the village. Also a great Market is at the entrance to the village on the right side. Against a fee of 300 Yen we visited also the Hannokibayashi Folklore Museum. I personally recommend 2 hours for the visit. If you are coming by car a lot of parking spaces are near the entrance ( 200 - 300 meters by foot ). On the road from the parking spots to the main village entrance are a lot of tasty foos stalls. We ate some tasty fried baby octopuses, some Wagyu Skewers and some super tasty donuts. Jump over if you are in the region. It worth it.
Robert R — Google review
This place was beautiful and amazing to visit and experience. Even though it was a cloudy day, the spring waters were clear and beautiful. This place stays crowded, but you can escape that. Many places to try snacks and foods. The souvenir shops had a lot of good items. You can purchase fruits and many local foods. Their are walkable areas to enjoy some quietness. If you can book a group tour, it's better.

Oshino Hakkai is a beautiful and serene village area known for its crystal-clear spring ponds fed by Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt. The entire place feels calm and refreshing, with traditional thatched-roof houses and charming bridges adding to the scenic appeal. The ponds are incredibly clear, offering amazing reflections and views of the aquatic plants beneath. There are also small shops and snack stalls around, making it a pleasant place to walk, explore, and enjoy local flavors. A peaceful and picturesque stop that perfectly complements any Mt. Fuji or Lake Yamanaka trip.
Abhishek N — Google review
The village is enchanting and beautiful. It was crowded even at 9 am in the morning. The tranquility of the ponds and their crystal clear waters are amazing. Don't miss a visit to this enchanting village. There is also a small market with tax free that offers a variety of typical and touristic gifts.
Cynthia G — Google review
If you visit the Kawaguchiko area, make sure to stop by here too! There are several nice photo spots and small natural ponds — there are seven in total on the map. It’s not a big area, but it’s really interesting to see. One of the spots has an entrance fee of 300 yen, where you can go up for a great photo view.
Rico P — Google review
Meh... too many tourists. Bus loads! The place is too small to accommodate so many visitors. Overrated. There are many other alternatives in the area. Come only if you Xtra time or if you didnt plan your itinerary carefully and don't know where else to go. Me? I walked around for 10mins and left.
Vince C — Google review
A pleasant place to enjoy the view of Mount Fuji reflected in the small lakes in the city. You can also drink water from Mount Fuji at a fountain in the city. The area is full of small establishments selling food, drinks, and souvenirs. The place is quite crowded, but it's worth checking out. Check the weather forecast beforehand, because if it's cloudy, you won't be able to see and appreciate Mount Fuji.

Arakurayama Sengen Park is a picturesque park known for its stunning views of Mount Fuji, a vibrant five-storied pagoda, and seasonal cherry blossoms. The park's iconic landscape has been featured in various media and is a popular spot for capturing the beauty of Japan. With its majestic shrine and breathtaking scenery, it's no wonder that this park is considered one of the best places to view Mount Fuji in the Fuji Five Lakes area.
Gorgeous scenery when you make it all the way up to the outlook area. The walk can be tough, definitely prepare for the weather because you will get extremely hot climbing the 400+ steps up the mountain. Japan humidity is insane. Felt so lucky to see Mount Fuji so clearly on this day.
Shiona D — Google review
This was my second time visiting this place. This time, I went by bus with a Japanese co-worker who kindly arranged the transportation for us, allowing us to experience the scenic ride to the area. The location is quite elevated, so I recommend visitors be prepared for some uphill walking. Doing regular physical activities like jogging, walking, or running beforehand can definitely help you handle the climb to the observation deck more comfortably. We visited in June, and the number of tourists was noticeably lower compared to the peak months of March and April, making for a more relaxed experience. There are public toilets and a drinking fountain (faucet-style) available in the area. You might notice warning signs about bears and monkeys, though we didn’t encounter any during our visit. There’s also a small restaurant nearby that serves ramen, karaage (fried chicken), and sells souvenirs. A good spot to rest and enjoy a meal after the climb.
Leo V — Google review
Going up was like hell. I’m not that fit, and those stairs really destroyed me. I had to catch my breath with every step I took. But once I got to the top, the view was absolutely mesmerizing. There was a big cloud covering Mount Fuji at first, so I waited and waited until the sky finally cleared. I’m glad I did, because after putting in all that effort, I didn’t want to just stare at clouds, lol. In the end, I’m really happy I made it up there and got to enjoy such a beautiful view.
Laloena A — Google review
I took the most iconic photo of Mt. Fuji in Arakurayama Sengen Park, and a real sense of accomplishment hit me after my eight day trip to Sapporo, Osaka, Nara, and Kobe. Seeing Mt. Fuji in real life felt like the icing on the cake of my Japan trip. Surprisingly, it is not only the view of the pagoda that is amazing. The park itself is stunning, with beautiful autumn leaves. In my opinion, it rivals the autumn colors in Hokkaido. The park can get busy, so it is best to arrive before the tour groups, preferably before 8:00 am. The photo area near the pavilion can be crowded, so do not expect to have it to yourself. From Kawaguchiko Station, take the local train to Shimoyoshida Station, then walk for about ten minutes. The pavilion is accessible after climbing roughly 400 steps. Highly recommended.
JP T — Google review
Amazing view specially if Mt. Fuji shows during your visit. Always crowded so having a good photo without photo Bomber is hard to get. Note: No Entrance Fee but long hard walk. Not suitable for little ones. You need to climb the 398 stone steps to reach the top of the shrine for better view. Drink lots of water . Perfect time to visit: spring and winter

Iconic view of Mount Fuji and Chureito Pagoda! Arakurayama Sengen Park is breathtaking, especially during cherry blossom season. The iconic view of the red Chureito Pagoda with Mount Fuji in the background is unforgettable and perfect for photography. The park is well-maintained, peaceful, and offers a lovely walk up the stairs with scenic spots along the way. A must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone wanting the classic Mount Fuji experience!

Early morning visit yo snap some photos of Fuji-San along with the ever popular Instagram snap of having Chureito Pagoda in the foreground and Miunt Fuji at the back. Weather was good this morning. Happy with my snaps. 😊 Note… It’s quite a walk up to the observation deck.

The place itself is of unparalleled beauty. I visited during Autumn and the colours of the Maple Corridor were surreal. The market is like any average tourist trap worldwide. Bad food, sketchy souvenirs, absurd prices. Highly recommended as a stop, once in a lifetime experience

Nestled in the serene forest, Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine is a Shinto shrine complex featuring traditional wooden structures and stone lanterns lining the paths. Situated at 1,450 meters above sea level in the Kiyosato Highlands, Kiyosato Kogen Hotel offers luxurious rooms with breathtaking views of Oku-chichibu, Minami Alps, and Mount Fuji.
Very beautiful Shrine. The 1000 years old tree are so awesome. It will be even more beautiful on Autumn when it turn all the leaf in yellow. It took me 1 hour walk from Shimoyoshida Station but enjoy the journey very much. The shrine are quite and peaceful. Highly recommended.
Joey T — Google review
We chose this location on a day trip through the Fuji area because of the peaceful beauty of all the surrounding trees. It was very calm with a feeling of being a special place in nature. It's a less busy spot and less about seeing Fuji at this location. There are shrines and statues to view too but our favorite part was the nature. If you love a beautiful secluded nature spot then this is a great place for you to visit! If your main motivation is to see Fuji or just shrines then this may not be your favorite location.
Karliegh S — Google review
If only I would check that this is beginning of Yoshida trail… I would start my journey from Shrine, instead 2 days before we started from Subaru 5th station. shrine is lovely place surrounded by old cedar trees. Very refreshing in hot summer day.
Andris L — Google review
We discovered the shrine totally by accident, without realizing its significance as a holy site and a spiritual trailhead for pilgrims looking to ascend Mount Fuji. We saw a wide woodland path from the road and decided to park up and go down it. After maybe 200 yd, we came to a peaceful stream, a bridge, and a huge wooden gate leading to the shrine complex. The gate is the largest of its kind in all of Japan. The shrine is still very active, there were people here praying and paying their respects- both employees and visitors. All the structures throughout the shrine had informative plaques in Japanese and English explaining the significance and how to properly pray here. Sometimes you visit somewhere and you can just feel the significance in the air, and this is one of those places. We were able to wander around the entire place at no charge.
Oliver W — Google review
Our tour guide recommend this spot. Less crowded then other tourists spots. Not worth going out of your way for. Nice for aome pictures, but other shrines look similar. Make a wish before you leave.

The tranquility is felt in this temple area. The trees are incredibly large. Some of the smaller temples have been restored beautifully. Love to spend more time sitting in the grounds. Worth a visit to get a feel for the shinto belief system

Amusement park
Water & Amusement Parks
Theme Parks
Fuji-Q Highland is an amusement park located near the base of Mount Fuji in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi. It's a popular destination for thrill-seekers with its impressive collection of rides, including Takabisha, the world's steepest roller coaster, and other famous coasters like Eejanaika, Do-Dodonpa, and Fujiyama. The park also offers two haunted attractions - Hopeless Fortress and the Haunted Hospital.
Must-visit place for Naruto and rollercoaster fans. It was my first time in the rollercoaster and it was terrifying, but still fun 🤣 Naruto fans will have more than enough content to have fun with. Food is good, but a bit expensive considering the amount of it (still normal as it's amusement park) There are FREE tickets for just walking in, one-enter tickets and one-day tickets. The paid ones allow you to enter all attractions for free, but you still have to wait in the queues if you don't have priority pass for specific attraction.
Sebastian T — Google review
This is my 2nd visit to Fuji-Q Highland, and I was worried about how the day would pan out as my last visit was atrocious! However, let me say that today was a very pleasant surprise! I paid for the priority entrance, which gets you into the park 30 minutes early (which is massively worth it). Head for the big coasters first - Zokkon and Fujiyama, as they get the biggest queues! They have a lot of great attractions, but make sure you read the opening times of all attractions as some things do close at 1.30pm and some open later in the day. They do have a detailed maintenance schedule on their website, but the opening and closing times did catch me out on my last visit. Also, attractions will close early depending on the queue times (for which they make announcements around the park), so make sure to plan everything you want to ride in time. There are vending machines next to each ride to buy fast passes, which is handy at busy times! The food stalls in the middle of the park are great, I had the Indian food which was lush. They are well-priced, too. There are lots of vending machines all around the park. There are at least 5/6 gift shops with lots of cool merchandise. There is also a 7-Eleven outside the park! Great for fussy eaters or cheap snacks! When visiting, make sure to plan ahead and get there early for a head start as when it's busy, it can be very unorganised and stressful.
Charlotte B — Google review
We went on a Monday in late October, and it wasn’t too packed. At most we waited an hour for one of the big roller coasters. If you are looking for a park with some of the best roller coasters ever then this is it! We loved Takabisha so much, it was scary and exhilarating all at the same time! Eejanaika is going to mess with your mind, all its twists and turns. But there are other great rides too, a special mention needs to be made for Tondemina (La pizza) ride that was fantastic. This park is filled with thrills. We had the Fuji pizza which was great. As a tip, the all day pass lets you re-enter, we went back to our hotel then returned at night, well worth it. I’ve read reviews that say the safety checks take a while and they do but honestly I was glad for it. Was it worth the money? Absolutely! I’d love to go again on a clear day when I can see Mt. Fuji.
Kyle W — Google review
Amazing rides - better than any other amusement park i've been to. They lack the intricate themes other amusement parks have (e.g., Disneyland) - more bare bones adrenaline rush. And they are very good at this - rides are so fast and frenzied that it's actually important to listen to the instructions and maintain the posture they tell you to have. They require emtying all pockets before boarding rides, and also remove glasses (they didn't even allow using goggles). They have free lockers at each ride. There are some vegan options in the food court (vegan ramen and curry). Amusement park food, not bad but not good either. there is also a Starbucks with some vegan snacks and vegan lattes. When we were there the lines were very short, so we would probably could have done without the priority tickets we bought. But I read and heard that in most times the lines are very long, and priority passes are recommended. We bought everything in the fuji Q website - if the site crashes, try turning off the google translation - it worked for us.
עמוס ר — Google review
We got there right as they opened and there were little to no lines which was great. We were able to get through a few rides in just over an hour which is awesome! As the day progressed, the lines did start to get longer, but we definitely got our money's worth with the day pass. I think the longest we waited for a ride was about an hour. Also, the views of Fujisan were breathtaking! Especially from the top of the highest roller-coasters. Definitely will visit again next time we are in Japan!
Bradford S — Google review
We went on a Autumn Thursday so there weren't that much lines! We were able ride all the rides that were open that day. They closed some down pretty early like the pizzala and the paniclock. I think Dodonpa closed down. However, the must-try rides for speed and thrill that are usually open are Fujiyama, Takabisha (the vertical drop was amazing), Eejanaika(fast and fun), and Zokkon. The Naruto village was a great place for me since Im a Naruto fan!
Ian F — Google review
I personally rank Fuji-Q among the top theme parks of the world for the following reasons: high density of absolutely innovative roller coasters and thrilling rides; sections of the park with authentic Japanese anime IPs; unmatched location with views of Mount Fuji; and plenty of activities for non-thrill seeking visitors as well. Sadly the day I visited ended up with rainy weather since afternoon and I couldn't finish the non-rollercoaster rides... Will plan another trip there again to finish what I've missed.
Naisheng X — Google review
We visited on a weekday and it was not too crowded actually. Most visitors are local Japanese. The park has English translations at every ride and facility. It was not difficult to navigate in the park as foreigners. We were thrilled at some of the rides and totally appreciated the effort being put in designing such rides. The longest wait we did was around 80 minutes but it could be longer on weekends. Purchase fast passes if needed. You will need to register for facial recognition right before entering as every ride will require that facial scanning for you to enter. Clean park. Excellent food options. Restaurants and food stalls charged reasonably and food actually tasted good.

Udon noodle restaurant
Takeout Restaurant
Sakurai Udon is a 75-year-old family-run establishment that offers delicious handmade udon. The noodles are slightly firmer than usual and come in two options: hot or cold. Customers can enjoy free additional udon and cabbage, making it a great value for money. The shop is known for being the first to sell Yoshida udon. Despite the language barrier, the staff are accommodating, with one member able to communicate in English.
Traditional local Japanese restaurant. You only have to make one decision- hot or cold. Eating on the traditional flooring tatami was nice. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Udon was ordinary but tasty. Cash only.
Emily L — Google review
If this could be a 10 star, it would be. The chewiest, thickest most delicious udons in a flavoursome broth with sweet fried tofu and cabbage. FYI - they do only hot and cold kitsume udon. To drink - water only. Traditional sit on the floor cozy setting and the food comes out very fast. No frills, just deliciousness in what feels to be a small family establishment. It cost around 500 yen per bowl of heaven.
Teereth B — Google review
Delicious noodles spot, in a traditional Japanese setting! We were presented with one choice: cold or hot noodles. The dish was great! We sat on cushions on low tables, food was served right away, and the staff was friendly and also spoke good English. Price is very convenient - Recommended! Thank you for the delicious meal, Sakurai Udon!
Andrew R — Google review
A great little local spot that specializes only in udon — simple, comforting, and delicious. You can choose to have it hot or cold, and it comes with tofu and cabbage. The udon noodles are perfectly chewy, and the tofu is fresh and flavorful. The owner is very kind and welcoming, and also speaks English, which makes it easy to communicate. Don’t expect too much in terms of strong flavors — it’s more about appreciating its simplicity and traditional style. A nice experience to eat in a traditional local setting.
Di L — Google review
Such a charming local place with fresh, handmade udon. They only have one type of noodles (soup or dry) with a choice in portion sizes. No regrets making a detour here for a quick bite. Oh and make sure to try their spice paste as it brings the broth to a whole other level!
V A — Google review
My goodness, the udon here is delicious. The options here is only hot or cold, but both are really delicious and all only cause 500 yen.
Jeremy L — Google review
The best noodles I've ever had in my life! You can see them making it in the back. The bounce of the noodles was just incredible and the broth was absolutely delicious. They only have one dish, served hot or cold. We got cold which seemed to just mean the broth was served seperately but that kept the noodles from going soft. The waiter was very kind and spoke amazing English. Seating was on the floor but still very nice
Kelly K — Google review
Cozy little restaurant. They only serve 1 kind of udon (you either choose hot or cold). Their udon tasted simple yet authentic. Also not to forget they do serve a kind chili that goes really well with the udon. A lot of locals dine there while we were there an experience we truly love. The person who serve us speak good English (ease for Tourism who do not speak much Japanese).

Japanese regional restaurant
Sanrokuen is a traditional barbecue restaurant located in a 150-year-old building that offers an authentic dining experience reminiscent of ancient Japan. Diners can cook their own food on skewers over a charcoal grill at the center of their table, choosing from various set courses featuring meats, seafood, tofu, and vegetables. The restaurant's rustic ambiance with a thatched roof and dark wooden interior beams adds to the unique dining experience.
Food is absolutely amazing, and the portions are very generous. I ordered one ramen and a combo set with ramen, fried rice, and a raw egg on top. Everything was delicious, especially the rich, flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. The fried rice had a nice smoky taste, and the raw egg added a creamy texture. All of this cost only about 2,000 ¥, which is a great deal for such a satisfying meal. Highly recommended!

Very nice BBQ Japanese setting serving a good variety of seafood and meats. I would recommend ordering ala carte unless you're a tofu, fishcake and rice ball person. The ambiance is relaxing and suitable for chit chatting or business executive discussion. Perfect place during winter.

Sanrokuen 山麓園 is an excellent place for a traditional, authentic Japanese robatayaki. The restaurant is in an over a hundred-year-old building. I am happy to have an enjoyable experience with all my family and friends in our Mt. Fuji trip. The restaurant is fantastic, and the ingredients they use are very fresh and of the highest quality. They also offer the best service. However, please don’t forget to make a reservation. Sanrokuen is usually booked weeks in advance.

It’s an unique experience though on a higher end side. We ordered the 22k yen premium set for 1 which was enough for 2. It will be better if there are more instructions and guidance given to grilling the food as I was stupidly watching my neighbours how to cook certain dishes

It’s peaceful, spacious, and ideal for walking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery. There are clean facilities, a welcoming atmosphere, and plenty of areas to sit down and take in the view. A must-visit if you are in the Fuji area – truly unforgettable!

Oishi Park is a scenic park located in the Yamanashi Prefecture of Japan, near the shores of Lake Kawaguchi. It's famous for its stunning views of Mount Fuji, especially during the spring and autumn months. The park has beautifully landscaped gardens with walking paths, a lovely rose garden, and a great spot for picnics. One of the highlights is the Oishi Park Flower Garden, which blooms with a variety of flowers, including lavender, sunflowers, and chrysanthemums. During certain seasons, the park hosts various flower festivals. It's also a popular spot for photography, thanks to the breathtaking views of Mount Fuji and the tranquil setting around the lake.

This is a beautiful park. I love the well tended gardens. We came during autumn and was delighted to see the fiery kochia bushes in spectacular bloom. The backdrop of the lake and mount fuji really made this park a very popular destination for tourists and locals alike. The whole park is so well kept and clean. The facilities such as parking and lavatories are also readily available. There are shops here which sells snacks and you can enjoy your coffee and snacks with a fantastic view of the park, the lake and the mountain in the background. If you don't want to leave without any mementos, there are also souvenir shops here and plenty of well positioned platforms for photographers.

Basically one of the most beautiful places I’ve been in my entire life. We went visit on summer and the lavenders were so pretty. Here you can see the Mount Fuji in its best shape, absolutely gorgeous. I’m so happy because I had added this place to my trip schedule… incredible.

Absolutely beautiful views and scenery. This site you can try the famous black ice cream or normal vanilla ice cream. You can order away from the crowds, but this site was heavily crowded. Some people were loud and didn't respect the peacefulness of it, so be warned. Experienced the Fall colors and plants. I recommend visiting this site. Most tour packages, include this site.

I visited Oishi Park in Kawaguchiko, and it was a very pleasant experience. The park is well-maintained, clean, and offers a beautiful view of Lake Kawaguchiko with Mt. Fuji in the background. It is one of the best places to enjoy scenery and take photos. The walking paths are easy and comfortable, and the seasonal flowers make the park look colorful and peaceful. There are also small shops and cafes nearby where you can relax and enjoy local products.

Beautiful spot but since it's famous it's also very busy. The park is really nice so many different flowers and plants. View is also really nice but yes don't expect to be alone or maybe if you go really early in the morning.

The Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum is a must-visit for music enthusiasts. Housed in a charming European-style building, the museum showcases a remarkable collection of antique automatic musical instruments dating back to the early 1900s, including an orchestrion originally intended for the Titanic. Visitors can enjoy daily performances by these instruments as well as weekly live operas and other musical events, with a focus on weekends.
This remarkable attraction combines the charm of a meticulously crafted French village with an extraordinary collection of automated musical instruments, creating an experience that feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Modeled after French architecture, every building showcases beautiful Cinderella-castle-style design that provides endless photographic opportunities throughout the grounds. I arrived late in the day when Mount Fuji was completely obscured by clouds, having exhausted other sightseeing options, and entered more out of curiosity than expectation. What I discovered was far beyond anything I had anticipated. The admission fee includes access to scheduled musical performances featuring massive automated organs, live opera singers, and grand automated music organ concerts that demonstrate incredible engineering and artistry from a bygone era. What truly impressed me was witnessing the staff’s dedication during closing time, as they carefully maintained and adjusted the numerous antique automated instruments with obvious expertise and care. This daily ritual speaks to their commitment to preserving these mechanical marvels for future visitors, ensuring each performance maintains its magical quality. The gift shop offers an extensive selection of music boxes in various sizes and musical selections, plus unique items like violins. While perhaps not as comprehensive as Hokkaido’s famous Otaru music box shops, the quality and sound of their music boxes are genuinely beautiful and worth considering as souvenirs. The magical climax of my visit occurred when the clouds suddenly parted, revealing Mount Fuji in perfect view from the French village setting. This unexpected moment created an absolutely breathtaking backdrop that had every visitor frantically capturing photos of the stunning combination of European architecture and Japan’s most iconic mountain. The contrast between the French-style buildings and the majestic mountain created such a surreal, picture-perfect scene that it felt almost too beautiful to be real. This destination successfully combines cultural education, musical entertainment, architectural beauty, and natural scenery into one cohesive experience that appeals to visitors of all ages and interests.

This place is just awesome and full of music. Live music events during the day in different halls. I really don’t know how to describe the place , it’s a big museum and shop together all around music. All in one it worth paying the entrance fee - 1500 Yen / pers. At the entrance you’ll receive a leaflet with the music events ( hour and hall ) and I warmly recommend to see them. We saw that there is also a restaurant on site. Didn’t enter so we cannot say hoe it is. If you are in the area and you are a music lover and love to see musical instruments we highly recommend this place. By the way there are o lot of shops with wonderful stuff. We spent there approx 2,5 hours. If you are coming by car there is a huge parking place just across the street , just in front of the museum on the other side of the road. Enjoyyyyyy !!!!

Hidden gem of Kawaguchiko! You can make your own music box in the gift shop. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend this place. It will be one of the most memorable souvenirs you will ever have. Also the views of Fujisan were beautiful!

A very good music museum with many performances to enjoy. In Japan, you can enjoy the scenery of distant European towns and the wonders of Mount Fuji. The ice cream here is also delicious. It is highly recommended to come here.

honestly, one of the weirder finds on our Japan trip. a lil french villa in the middle of kawaguchiko with a music museum of some of the coolest contraptions you’ve probably never heard of and all kinds of art highlights (including dali’s rhino). perfect photo-op with mt fuji if you want a unique view.
Elizabeth B — Google review
Visited on a rainy day thinking it would be a good wet weather activity but the museum is mostly not sheltered, except the performance halls. Nonetheless, they provided umbrellas that made exploring the museum much more enjoyable despite the weather. I only managed to catch two performances—the opera and organ— and thoroughly enjoyed both. I definitely regret not arriving earlier to experience more of them. The gift shop also has many interesting souvenirs, especially music boxes for a variety of music pieces, from classical to pop or even studio ghibli tunes. I would really suggest setting some time aside to browse even if you don't intend to buy anything. Lastly, the museum was pretty with flowers and photo spots, and I even managed to catch a glimpse of mt fuji despite the bad weather. Would definitely come back again next time!

The Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway offers a thrilling cable car ride that takes you to Kawaguchiko Tenjozan Park, where an observation deck at 1,075 meters provides breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji and the Southern Alps. The 3-minute ascent treats visitors to unobstructed panoramas over Lake Kawaguchiko, with the added bonus of colorful maple foliage during the autumn season.
The Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway is such a fun and scenic experience! The cable car ride takes you up to a viewpoint where, on a clear day, you get an incredible view of Mount Fuji. Unfortunately, it was super cloudy when I visited, so we didn’t get to see Fuji in all its glory but that’s just how Mother Nature works sometimes! At the top, there’s a small food and ice cream stand. I totally recommend grabbing some ice cream, especially if you’re visiting in June when it’s starting to get hot. There’s also a swing you can ride for a small fee (I believe it was around 500 yen) a fun little bonus if you're into unique photo ops. If you keep walking past the main viewing area, there’s a higher spot that gives you even better views and more photo opportunities. Just be careful it gets pretty steep and hilly, and if you’re not paying attention, it’s easy to slip or lose your footing. Overall, even though I didn’t get the perfect view of Mount Fuji, the experience was still really cute and enjoyable. Definitely worth a visit!
Elba P — Google review
Decent place. There is a ride up on an aerial cable car with windows from all sides. They let a limited amount of people on per ride so you're guarenteed to see a great view. There are unfortunately just 2 cars so to get on/off is a bit of waiting in line in the sun. On top there are swings that face Mt Fuji and can be mesmerizing. There was one working telescope, and a little store selling snacks and drinks. The ice cream was fantastic. It was a perfect fit for the trip up. There is also the legend of the mischievous usagi (rabbit) with stories setup before boarding, and a shrine at the top. The main part is the view of Mt Fuji... it unfortunately depends on the weather. It is a great location to see the mountain but when we went, the peak was covered with clouds. We only saw it on our flight. You also get a good view of the theme parks below.
Kris R — Google review
This was a good experience but the queues were insane. Maybe because it was a holiday weekend, or maybe it's like that all the time. The views from the top are amazing, but after taking a few pictures I got back on line to go down. It was a two-hour experience which 1 hour and 45 minutes was spent standing in line. The ropeway is less than 10 minutes riding up and down. If you want to explore or wander, be careful of bears. The line does not get shorter.
Sheldon J — Google review
It can get very busy, so buy your tickets in advance. Once you buy a ticket, you will receive a number, which serves as your queue number for the ropeway. My number was 1157 and it took about 40 minutes before it was called and I boarded the ropeway. At the top of Mt. Tenjo, you get a stunning view of Mt. Fuji on one side and Lake Kawaguchiko on the other. It is really worth the waiting time. If you are adventurous, you can also hike Mt. Tenjo since there is a trail leading to the ropeway. I chose to hike going down to Lake Kawaguchiko. It took me about 30 minutes and the trail is beautiful. So my recommendation: take the ropeway going up, then hike going down.
JP T — Google review
This is very much a tourist thing, and I loved it 🤣 I chose perhaps the worse day of my kawaguchiko trip with rain and mist, and yet the views were still stunning. The ride up allows for a fantastic viewing and only takes around two minutes. Once up there, you have a shrine, love bell, swing and several rabbit and tanuki statues. The store is good value with friendly staff and ice cream is available. On my visit I basically went straight up without queuing, however I have passed (during brighter weather) and the queues can get crazy. For the price it's totally worth doing!
Scott C — Google review
There were 2 cable cars going up and down and it was fast, just not fast to cope with the amount of people haha. We were lucky as there wasn’t a long queue, upon coming down the queue was all the way to the roadside.. quite crazy. Ticket is 1000 Yen/person, 2 ways. The view was beautiful during our visit. You won’t be missing out if you’re not going up if it’s not a good weather
Fuzzy W — Google review
The view of mount Fuji from the platform are just perfect. But it is only worth visiting if the weather is good and there is visibility. The cable car ride is short but you can also get a very nice view of the lake
Cynthia G — Google review
We went in Summer Aug 2025. Very nice views, easy and short ride up. We went in the morning 9am+ so no queue at all. The area on top is not big.. just one snack shop and one souvenir shop, as well as the swing. Quite easy walk, so won't take long up there, other than the ropeway queues. There was a very long queue when we came down back around 10am+ We were there a day earlier in the cloudy afternoon 3pm+ and the ropeway was closed due to potential lightning. So do come by earlier if you don't wanna miss this place. No, that wasn't Mt Fuji's ash cloud, just the normal cloud trying to be funny...

Narusawa Ice Cave is a small lava tube cave located near Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko in Japan. It features pillar-like ice formations during the winter months, reaching as far as 21 meters underground. The cave was formed by the eruption of Mt. Nagao in 864, which hollowed out vast underground caverns.
An incredible experience visiting this place. I went during the summer, and although it was scorching hot outside, the temperature dropped drastically as soon as I entered. Even though the cave isn’t very deep, the difference in temperature was significant. The route wasn't very long either, but it was enough to make me shiver from the cold
Fireflies 9 — Google review
Ice cave is wonderful to get away from the hot weather. I was worried by their maps that made it look like we could run into a room with water or fall down a tunnel, but the handrails kept us on path. It is a short 20 mins but be warned the stairs and passages are steep, wet, and can be slippery. There is one narrow and low ceiling passage of about 20 feet. There is a couple of places with low ceiling to duck down. I would not recommend this if you have mobility problems and a couple of sections gets dark. There are bars to hold onto but one bar seemed a little wobbly. You can use one of their free helmets but there were only 5 total helmets there— there was one other group of 3 people at the cave while we were there and they didn’t have helmets so not sure if the facility only has 5 helmets for all visitors. There is one section that has the ice to see on the left and right. When we went, there didn’t seem to be as much ice as other people’s pictures. It was cool to see the natural ice formation and not something I would go out of your way for, but if you are in the area and interested in geology then drop by. They also had clean restrooms.

Cheap but cheerful cave experience amongst beautiful naturescape. Visit during winter to see ice pillars. We visited in autumn & signs pre-warned ice pillars had melted, so we knew what to expect. Still went for the experience! Steep but short climb down 21m. Cold, so prepare accordingly. Watch your head for low hanging rocks. A short section where we had to pretty much crawl through - a unique experience! Take as long as you like, but approx 10min round trip. 1.4km trail walk (30min) to Wind Cave - can purchase combo tickets. Well worth it for something different and a bit of a nature walk. But you can also drive there.
Alex C — Google review
A unique and memorable stop near Mount Fuji. The Narusawa Ice Cave takes you through narrow lava-tube tunnels with impressive ice formations that stay frozen all year. It’s short (so take your time and make the most of it) but fascinating, about a 20-minute walk through chilly, dim passages that feel like an underground adventure. It can be slippery and tight in spots, even a section to almost crawl, so wear good shoes and a light jacket. The staff are friendly, and signs are available in English and Japanese. Great to pair with the nearby Fugaku Wind Cave for a full experience. Easy to access by car, plenty of parking onsite and leading into, or local bus, and well worth the visit if you’re exploring the Fuji Five Lakes area. There is a gift shop attached where you can also purchase food items. We also visited the Wind Cave, this experience was a little more comfortable, ticket entry can be purchased for both caves at each site.

Narusawa Ice Cave is another place I visited during my trip to Mt. Fuji. Visiting this ice cave offers a great opportunity for physical activity and exercise. I'm glad I can handle it. The Narusawa Ice Cave is not particularly impressive. However, it's fun if you have a whole group of friends who can go together.
Michael W — Google review
Although short, the ice cave is a unique and refreshing experience. Even in summer, it’s cold inside, and the crouching and squeezing through narrow passages to go deeper makes it all the more fun.
Upasana P — Google review
Located in the Aokigahara Forest at the northwestern foot of Mt. Fuji, Narusawa Ice Cave is a small lava tube formed about 1,150 years ago during one of Fuji’s eruptions. The temperature inside remains around 0–3°C throughout the year, allowing impressive ice formations to persist even in summer. The walking path is short — about 150 meters — leading down a narrow, slippery tunnel with solidified lava walls and a distinct chill in the air. Two main chambers display preserved ice: one illuminated with soft blue light, the other protected behind metal bars. A full visit takes around 10–15 minutes, and while it’s interesting from a geological perspective, the experience can feel brief — essentially a short descent to view the ice and back. It’s best to buy a combined ticket that includes Fugaku Wind Cave nearby, for a more complete and rewarding visit to the Fuji Five Lakes Geopark area

Take a trip into a lava cave. No actual lava involved. There are ice blocks. Temperature is 0*C to 3*C in the cave. It has been used for cold storage of silk worm cocoons and seeds. The stairway down is uneven, but not dangerous if care is used. It is not a very long distance into the cave. Basalt and cooled lava are readily viewable. The store at the beginning of the path has corn ice cream. I highly recommend trying it with a bit of salt.

Although brief, it’s a fun experience, especially in summer when it’s hot outside. A 10-minute walk through the cave offers a cool, windy, and refreshing escape. There’s also a bat cave and an ice cave nearby that are worth checking out.

Just down the road from the Narusawa Ice Cave, the Fugaku Wind Cave is another must-see spot in the Fuji Five Lakes area. This naturally formed lava tube stays cool all year, with temperatures around zero degrees even in summer, perfect for a quick escape from the heat. Inside, you’ll see displays showing how the cave was once used to store silkworm eggs and seeds, along with impressive ice pillars and rock formations. The walk is smooth and easier than the Ice Cave, making it great for families or anyone wanting a calmer underground experience. The site is well-maintained, has clear English signs, and offers free parking nearby. A short, cool, and educational stop, best enjoyed together with the Ice Cave for a full Mount Fuji lava cave adventure.

Fugaku Wind Cave is an interesting lava tube formed over 1,000 years ago by an eruption of Mt. Fuji. Compared to the nearby Narusawa Ice Cave, this one offers a wider and more comfortable passage, allowing for an easy and pleasant walk through its cool, dark interior. Inside, the temperature remains around 3°C year-round, and during the Edo period the cave was used as a natural refrigerator for silkworm eggs and seeds. The visit takes about 15–20 minutes, and buying a combined ticket for both caves is convenient and recommended, as they complement each other perfectly. What I found most captivating were the walls covered with vivid green mosses and lichens, their color strikingly contrasting with the glossy black lava. Interestingly, these plants grow even in the deeper parts of the cave, where artificial lighting allows them to photosynthesize, creating a mysterious and almost surreal atmosphere.
Anna K — Google review
The Fugaku Wind Cave is a fun place to visit if you can physically handle the walk and crawling in some cases. The entire trip involves walking up and down many stairs. Make sure you pick up a helmet at the entrance to protect your head if you are not a short person. The cave is fun to watch if you know you can handle it physically.
Michael W — Google review
This cave is so deep that ice inside does not melt, creating a beautiful natural ice sculpture inside the lava tube cave. It's cold, wet, slippery, and parts of the ceiling are low. Great experience. There is corn ice cream sold at the ticket counter.

Delicious cakes and absolutely stunning interior! We tried chestnut-matcha and seasonal fruits cakes. I have never tried chestnut-matcha one before, it has more chestnut flavor than matcha, but I really enjoyed. The place overall allows to stay up to 1 hour there.

This place has been such a highlight so far into my trip that I had to review it the same day I went here. Had the Iced Latte (Irish Cream) & Iced Latte (White Chocolate & Strawberry) TWICE in under 6 hours. I loved it that much. Had the rasberry cheese cake which was equally good. Everything about this place is top tier - the staff, the environment, the music. Just amazing!

Awesome cafe! Cookie Cream Cheesecake was the best cheesecake ever;) It was soft but not too soft and had very creamy rich flavor yet not too heavy. Coffee was also good and they have a variety of coffee and tea. Plus, they have cute accessories, clothes, kitchen items...etc. The only thing that I want to ask them is the coffee cup. They use paper cups only even for there, not taking away. Since they sell cute coffee cups, I'd love to have coffee with them!

This cafe is extremely cute. Unfortunately it doesn't have a view of Fuji due to another mountain being in the way. I had a hot latte and the cookies & cream cheesecake. Shaw's Sushi Bar & Dining is a unique sushi establishment near Kawaguchiko train station in Yamanashi, Japan. They are known for their exceptional sushi and the use of rice flour for their tempura batter, catering to those with celiac disease. The restaurant offers gluten-free soy sauce upon request. Despite being a bit pricey, the quality ingredients and exquisite presentation make it worth the cost.
We had a delicious meal here last night, everything was so fresh! The staff were very accommodating with my partner's gluten allergy. Fresh seafood and quality ingredients. We got the vegetarian and gluten free set meal, the blue fin tuna set meal and the assorted tempura. Make sure you line up as they are only open for a short window at lunch and dinner. The best meal we have had in Japan. Highly recommend!

A 2 minute walk from the station and a gem to have your first meal in this beautiful town. We luckily got seats immediately but one sushi set option was already sold out. We chose the vegetarian set meal- it was superb. The colours, texture and balance was incredible. The veg tempuras were crisp. My son enjoyed the Sashimi Bowl meal. Fresh and filling.

The Shingen-Mochi Factory Theme Park is a popular destination for those interested in traditional Japanese sweets. Visitors can enjoy free tours of the candy factory and witness skilled workers wrapping each mochi in under 6 seconds. The theme park also offers the opportunity to participate in making creative Japanese sweets using seasonal flavors. Additionally, there is a shop on-site where visitors can purchase a variety of affordable sweets and snacks.
No need to buy ticket or reservation to visit 🆓 It is an indeed new experience to able to see mochi making process, not the whole process basically only packing and see them goes through a conveyor, but to watch the staff working is kind of satisfying cuz they move quickly. Various kind of snack and mochi are available here, with super duper cute and traditional packaging 😻

Great factory outlet if you are into mochi. Tour is free and pretty fast, don’t come on a Sunday if you are looking for action in the tour. Most of the line is close. But if you are on the way to the north and don’t mind buying mochi. Can stop by There are two gift shops. When facing the main building at the entrance, The. Left side is close to expiry items and less frills but also cheaper. Right side are more for gifts to others, longer expiry Note that most items expire within a week so best to check Also lots of locals visit, it’s a factory outlet after all

Fun experience, get to see the whole process and a great shop at the end. Would recommend planning in advance and coming early before the tourist buses hit, as it can get very busy. Got my self the Yuru Camp Nadeshiko set, super tasty and super cute.

Having a free tour of what is going inside their factory is a fun learning experience, but if you are not a fan of those things, I wouldn't recommend going because it would be boring😊the matcha ice with shingen mochi is a must try, yummy 😋

Great free self guided tour of a real factory that makes mochi. Just wander around at your own pace and view the workers making mochi! At the end of the tour you can get the famous mochi ice cream! The place was packed on a Tuesday with tour buses

Watch the man power required to wrap each shingen mochi! I love the shingen mochi from here, so I wanted to come visit this factory. It is very cool to just watch these skilled individuals wrap each mochi under 6 seconds. They have a store beside the factory that you wouldn’t want to miss! They sell a lot of different sweats and snacks for cheap. If you want to get cheap shingen mochi you better be ready to line up before the store opens. I was the first person in line and was there an hour before opening. The group 10 person back(throwing up numbers here but isn’t that far off) couldn’t get any by the time they came in. One per person but people come in groups, so be there early. They have other deals so not to worry but if you want cheap shingen mochi you better come early. They also have an “all you can stuff into a bag” event for 220 yen??? However you have to really get their early for this and get a number. Once your number is called you can participate.

A factory of a Yamanashi’s famous Shingen Mochi snack. Shingen mochi is a popular mochi snack in Yamanashi. This is the factory that makes all the product and you can see it’s been packaged by human one by one with super fast tie. The factory also has an outlet store and cafe.

Visited on 26th March. Local cuisine sweets factory with DIY activity and tour trip. Good place for learning, buying, or eating some local sweet or food. May be very inconvenient if you don’t know any Japanese. Since they don’t provide other language version of tour.

Hottarakashi Onsen is a hot spring retreat offering separate outdoor baths for men and women. It is renowned for its breathtaking sunrise and stunning views of Mount Fuji. Nestled in the hills above Fuefuki Fruits Park, this simple yet remarkable onsen provides unparalleled vistas of the surrounding mountains, with Mount Fuji majestically dominating the scenery. The nearby go-kart track adds to the area's appeal, attracting many iCLA students.
The onsen with the greatest view in Japan. It's open as early as sunrise, so you can take a bath while watching the beautiful sunrise over the mountain range in Yamanashi. There is two onsens available, one of which has the signature view and newer, which is the one I went for. There is a restaurant at the top which serves the popular fried boiled egg which taste amazing after soaking in the onsen bath.

Gorgeous location, great prices (only 900 yen or $6 for a bath), and tattoo friendly, which was the main reason I picked this location. I stayed at the nearby Fruit Park Fujiya hotel and hiked about 35 minutes up to the Onsen. Very rural feel. I wish there’d been less fog for a better view of Fuji, but maybe next time.
Reid S — Google review
This was an incredible experience, the view from the baths was gorgeous mountaintops. I highly recommend going for sunrise as it was cooler so you could enjoy the heat of the baths more (we arrived at 5:15am and there were already around 100 people in line). Everyone was really accepting although no one seemed to speak english so you had to figure most things out for yourself. Lockers were available for valuables whilst in the onsen, and we were allowed in with tattoos. No public transport available to the onsen, would be a hard walk on the side of a road up a mountain, taxi/car recommended. Definitely go if you are in the area!
Bella H — Google review
The onsen was pretty clean, affordable, and has outdoor area, but very basic. They dont have sauna/steam or other recreational features, only hot pools (1 indoor and some outdoors). The outdoor area is quite big and has many hidden corner for someone who doesn’t really comfortable being naked in front of others. The water was not too chlorinated and was okay for my skin and hair to get soaked in long period. I went there during night & end of winter, so got only city view and the hot spring was just perfect for the winter cold. They provided towel (for extra charges) and basic shampoo & shower gel. It’s recommended if you want to try traditional Japanese onsen.

A hot spring adjacent to Fruit Line and Fuefukigawa Park. Select "Over there" or "Here" to enter. You cannot enter both for the same bath fee. Perfect for washing off your sweat at the park or riding a go-kart. It's best when you sprinkle salt on fried eggs and eat them with a bottle of milk.
Youji N — Google review
Nice natural hot spring “Onsen”. Genders are separated and you got to be completely naked. Price is reasonable too at 800 yen entry and 1000 yen for a towel. Taxi from Ishiawa train station is about 4000 yen for one way. Tattoos seemed to be ok too. Went in with a big dragon tattoo and no one complained. Also, I saw one Japanese man with a large koi fish tattoo on his leg. Food options are available. Great view of Mt Fuji. Apparently amazing for sunrise. Shower before going into the water, not when you get out.

Fuefukigawa Fruit Park is a popular destination in Yamanashi, known for its gardens, play equipment, and glass domes housing a fruit museum and greenhouse. The region is renowned for producing delectable fruits like peaches, grapes, and strawberries. Visitors can enjoy fruit picking at local farms from summer to autumn. At the park, guests can savor fresh fruits straight from the trees and explore various activities such as fruit workshops and orchard experiences.
Fuefukigawa is a huge establishment with many buildings, play areas, and planted green spaces. Very walk-able, but bring an umbrella during sunny days. The indoor domes get hot, so keep water with you. There is a cafe and a restaurant, and if you have the time the restaurant is very good with AC and reasonable prices.

Nice park where you can enjoy the scenario from the hill to the city. There is fish catching activity, and you can grill the fish after catching. It’s fun for kids.
Thang V — Google review
Beautiful place! There are all kind of fruit trees here. You can see how the gorgeous fruits are growing beautifully. Remember to be respectful and don’t pick the fruit! They have plenty of places around the area where you can buy all kinds of fruits. Also there are lots of areas where kids can play! There is the outdoor playground, aqua park, indoor playground in the dome, underground museum with interactive activities, and more. There are couple options for lunch time, fish grilling at the aqua park area, that’s seasonal. Bbq, restaurant, snacks, and the delicious seasonal parfait. I got to try the muscat one and it was amazing! Come early to enjoy as much as you can! Have lunch in the area, get some souvenirs and delicious treats and at the end enjoy at their onsen! A perfect day!

Fuefukigawa is an excellent scenic spot. Many spacious parking lots, attractive views. Spend pleasant moments with your family, children, friends, and loved ones. Make memories of happy moments, but renew love in the best atmosphere. Refresh your mood with your favorite snacks, meals, barbeque, ice cream and soft drinks. A beautiful antique railway train is waiting for you to take you around the park. Water Park is a very enjoyable place for children. Where children fulfill their wishes. And with it the freshest fruits from the orchards are eager to accompany you. However, no matter how much we talk about the charm of this park, it is less.

Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Takeda Shrine is a significant place of worship located on the ruins of the Tsutsujigasaki fortified residence, once ruled by the powerful Takeda clan during Japan's Warring States period. The shrine, built in 1919 to honor Kofu's revered leader, Takeda Shingen, features original moats and stone walls from the historic stronghold. Visitors can explore the Homotsuden treasure house showcasing authentic weapons and armor from the Takeda clan.
I recently visited Takeda Shrine, and it exceeded all my expectations! If you're a Japan history buff like me, this place is a must-visit. Nestled in a serene setting, Takeda Shrine offers a fascinating journey into the rich history of the Takeda clan, particularly during the reign of Takeda Shingen. The highlight for history enthusiasts is undoubtedly the museum dedicated to the Takeda clan. It provides an in-depth look into the life and times of Takeda Shingen, showcasing artifacts, relics, and informative displays that transport you back to that era. The attention to detail is commendable, making it a truly immersive experience. The serene surroundings also make it a peaceful escape for families looking to enjoy some quality time together.

I visited by bicycle. Since there wasn't a designated bike parking area, a security guard kindly directed me to a place where I could park. The road to Takeda Shrine has a steady uphill slope. The shrine grounds are very well-maintained, making for a pleasant walk.

Interesting historic site a lovely 3km walk from the Kofu JR station. Small and well-kept but nothing spectacular. There is a museum just 100m away from the shrine which can be visited for free for the regular exhibits. Do visit if you have the time but may not worth coming here especially for the shrine.

Takeda Shrine is a compelling mix of spiritual serenity, historical intrigue, and cultural heritage, offering a unique glimpse into the life of one of Japan's greatest samurai.
Pieter A — Google review
During my early college years, I had to do a report on Takeda Shingen. Years later on this day, I had the honor of visiting a shrine dedicated to him. The shrine has an array of Shingen theme charms and you can even purchase a small scale size of his banner. Unfortunately the Shingen museum was closed due some renovations, but artifacts site was open and there were plenty of historic displays including katanas, kabutos, scrolls, and banner used in battle.

Must visit here if you come to kofu. A city full of takeda seal (The red diagonal diamond). From the station you need to either walk 2.1km up a slop or take a bus @190yen per person just outside the station. Not to worry the bus can exchange big note to small change. When enter the bus (every half hour) take the ticket from the back gate. Before reaching the shine press the bell. The bus driver will stop and see you pay the bus fee . Very convenient.

The whole area is full of historical spots to see, and this one is a rich and well-maintained jewel. Any time of the day, it’s beautiful and lush to see. There is a noh stage in addition to the usual hostels. If you’re into samurai, it’s a must-visit.

気まぐれ屋, located at the foot of the mountain near Hottarakashi Onsen in Yamanashi City, offers an authentic TKG experience. It is recommended to arrive before 9 a.m. as items tend to sell out quickly. The restaurant also serves a Pork Soup Set with rice, pork soup, egg, natto, and pickles for 700 yen.
Very delicious food!Very friendly store owner ! The spiciness of the curry combined with the sweetness of apples, along with the unique texture of the salad, made for an unforgettable experience. After a tiring hike, this generous portion of curry rice was incredibly comforting!”

Probably the best Chicken Curry-Rice in Japan
Gurjinder S — Google review
(Translated by Google) This is a review from a motorcyclist's perspective. I've been to Hottarakashi Onsen several times, and on those occasions I've had soba noodles and fried eggs at the soft-serve ice cream and soba shop located in the front from the parking lot, but I've never been to Kimagureya, located in the back. Then I finally ended up going here in August 2025. I had some business in Kofu that day and stopped in with the intention of having the legendary curry for lunch. A few months earlier, this curry had been featured in the anime Mono, which had piqued my interest, so the timing was perfect. I had the legendary curry chicken. 1,200 yen. From the photos and other appearances, I thought the amount of rice would be small, but after finishing it all, I was completely full. The most impressive thing was that the chicken was surprisingly filling, and it was quite a task to finish it all. It was about 10-20% less than a Christmas turkey. (Rough image) And it was simmered until it was tender, so it was easy to break apart with a spoon and fork, so it didn't slow down your eating pace and was both spicy and delicious. Speaking of spicy, I don't remember exactly because I ate it in one bite early on, but the bite-sized potatoes (or so I think) that came with it were also covered in a unique sauce, which made a big impact. What's even better is that it came in a location with a great view of the basin. Even cheap, ready-made curry can be delicious when eaten outdoors, like camping, but eating this elaborate curry while enjoying the view outdoors is a truly appealing experience, even when viewed as a meal in itself. It's like a casual, generic outdoor experience without having to go camping or hiking. Motorbike riders tend to have a small appetite because they tend to leave home early in the morning without eating a proper meal and get home a little later to avoid traffic jams, and eating a proper meal on the way makes them sleepy (although this depends on the person), but when I had this curry for lunch (in my case that day), I didn't feel hungry until around 9pm. In other words, in my case it was about 1.5 meals' worth. So considering the quality of the food, the portion, and the fact that you can eat it in an open location, I felt that 1,200 yen was quite good value.

(Translated by Google) This restaurant opens early in the morning (opening at 6am from October 2025), making it the perfect place to stop by for breakfast after a soak in the hot springs. The breakfast menu is egg on rice. Substituting the miso soup set meal for pork miso soup costs 100 yen more, but it's packed with ingredients and has a gentle, refreshing flavor that makes it perfect for breakfast. The set meal comes with pickled vegetables, natto, miso soup, egg, and rice. The amount of rice is not too much, so it's just right for breakfast, but if you want to fill up, I recommend ordering a large portion for an additional fee. The restaurant opens about an hour after Hottarakashi Onsen opens, and seems to get crowded with customers coming out of the bath about 10 minutes later. Prices are a bit high for a tourist destination, but I thought it was worth it to be able to enjoy breakfast outside while admiring the view.

I ate a little bit of the chicken joint, which was crunchy and delicious. The chicken was topped with something green. My taste buds couldn't tell if it was herbs or spices. The rice was the color of red rice, but it wasn't red rice; it was a healthy, reddish color. Italian restaurant
Yamanashi Restaurant meli-melo is a delightful dining spot that prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients from Yamanashi. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes made with rare organic vegetables, local Koshu Jidori chicken, and crystal pork. Guests can also enjoy fine Yamanashi wines to complement their meals. Additionally, the chef is known for creating special off-menu plates featuring different types of beef, pork, and chicken upon request.
I went here on the recommendation of a friend and ordered the roast steak with red Mt. Fuji grape juice. I'm not exaggerating in the least when I say that it was the best meal I've ever had in my life. I've lived in Europe and eaten much more expensive meals in France, Germany, and Italy that didn't even come close to the quality of Meli-Melo. And the meal here only cost me 3000 yen. I don't mean to sound melodramatic, but Ave Maria came on the radio in the restaurant right when I started eating the roast steak and it was such a beautiful experience that I will never forget it. The service was also amazing. I'm an American and my Japanese is still fairly poor, but the waitress and the chef were very patient with me and explained the menu items in a way that I could understand. I will definitely be going again.

3 minutes walk from the north exit of Kofu Station. Casual french food cafe/restaurant. Unique menu, presented beautifully, made from fresh vegetables sourced locally and Koshu wine beef or shingendori. There are counter seats and table seats. It is housed in a building that was constructed to be a new landmark for Kofu, replicating the old castle town setting of about an hundred years ago.

(Translated by Google) What I received this time... [Chef's recommendation!] Local vegetables and Koshu wine beef course】 Local vegetable salad 6 vegetable antipasto misto dishes Neapolitan pizza Today's pasta Koshu wine beef (lean) steak Assorted dolce Coffee or Tea (Hot or Ice) [Chef's recommendation! Local vegetables and Koshu wine beef course (12 dishes in total)] ¥6,000 (tax included) *Contents vary depending on the season. Merimelo's most popular course meal, where you can enjoy dishes not found on the a la carte menu. We enjoyed our meal at the counter seat where we could watch Chef Koyama prepare the food right in front of us. Perhaps it was because Gurume-nee was the only one eating alone, or because we were seated at the counter, but the chef carefully explained all the dishes and ingredients, and we had a great time ☺️ Merimelo, an Italian restaurant that uses locally produced food for local consumption, uses a lot of seasonal vegetables from Yamanashi Prefecture, mainly organic vegetables from Kobuchizawa, in its dishes. Therefore, I was able to eat fresh vegetables that I don't usually eat, such as kolinki, beets, and yacon, which is rich in oligosaccharides.Among the vegetable antipasto misto, I was particularly impressed by the squash paste crostini. What a wonderful balance between the smooth texture of the paste packed with the natural sweetness of pumpkin and the crispy texture of the baguette! I wanted to come back just to eat this. The other five dishes are Yahata potato frites, crystal pork porchetta, Genovese steamed kohlrabi, stewed white beans, wine beef shank and Otsuka burdock, and Neapolitan mozzarella and semi-dried tomatoes. I'm very satisfied at this point. Maybe it was close to closing time? We were also served borscht made with beets. The beetroot flavor was rich in nutrients, and we paired it with sour cream, which went perfectly with it. Neapolitan pizza is packed with delicious elements: chewy dough, melty cheese, and rich tomato sauce. The Aglio Olio refreshes the taste buds filled with tomato sauce and cheese, and the aroma of the homemade salsiccia with lemon accents and crunchy vegetables combined with the aromatic aroma of the olive oil filled not only the taste but also the sense of smell with happiness. The main dish, Koshu wine beef, was surprisingly 5 times more tender and juicy than I had imagined. There are two types of dolce (perhaps it depends on how crowded the shop is and the time you go?) The strawberry panna cotta is fluffy and sweet enough to eat, and the second dolce is apple baked goods and earl gray gelato. It was so delicious that I wanted to write a thank you letter to the person who came up with this combination. I also received a cute apple, which gave me a sense of the chef's playfulness. I would like to recommend this restaurant to everyone all over the country! Everything was really delicious. I will definitely go again. Thank you for the meal. Appetizer, soup, main course, dessert, and drink cost about 3,000 yen per person. The appetizers were good, but I got the impression that too much salt was used in the main dishes. My personal opinion is that if you are selling vegetables, it would be better to put the flavor of the ingredients to the forefront. Even the bread was salty. I was very impressed with the sincere work of the hall staff, but it didn't make sense to me that they separated the drinking glasses for after-meal drinks from those for water. If it's water and white wine, it makes sense to pour the colors separately so you don't mix them up. I will not visit again. As a store employee, I understand that the rent is reasonable, but I didn't get the feeling that lunch was a good deal, as they provided good food at a low price in exchange for the crowded table layout. Since it's located in a tourist area, I got the feeling that it would be a lunch challenge. There are days like this that only happen once in a lifetime. The interior is decorated with Italian soccer team uniforms and autographed photos (apparently the chef was a soccer player in his youth and remains a huge soccer fan). I visited during lunchtime on a weekday and ordered a whole Yamanashi loco moco and a Koshu wine beef bolognese set (the lunch set includes an appetizer, dessert, and coffee, tea, or lemonade). The food was beautifully presented and simply delicious. The loco moco hamburger steak and bolognese were melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the accompanying salad was fresh. Mount Fuji, the iconic snow-capped peak and volcano, is the highest in Japan and the 7th highest island peak on earth. Yamanashi Prefecture, home to Mount Fuji, offers a serene escape from Tokyo's hustle and bustle. Visitors can explore the picturesque Fuji Five Lakes, Kiyosato highland resort, historical temples like Erinji and Kuonji, rejuvenating hot springs, and renowned wineries.
Definitely recommend hiking fuji. The sunrise is amazing and though a challenge it’s worth the rewards. And you get to stand on top of Japan at 3776m Quite crowded during August and not too easy to book the mountain huts but you can always join a tour

A Journey Above the Clouds Climbing Mount Fuji (3,776m) is more than a hike — it’s a test of will and wonder. From the 5th Station, the trail starts easy with cool air and ramen stops, but soon turns into a battle of endurance as the air thins and the slopes steepen. The night climb was magical — stars overhead, headlamps snaking up the mountain. Reaching the summit at 4:30 a.m. to witness Goraikō, Japan’s sacred sunrise, was pure awe. The descent? Slippery and tough, but the sense of achievement made every step worth it. 🌅Unforgettable. Humbling. Beautiful. My trip is started end of August , start at night for sunrise, layer up, and pace yourself.

Breathtaking and unforgettable experience! Seeing Mt. Fuji in person is truly magical. The view is stunning from every angle, especially on a clear day or during sunrise and sunset. Whether you visit the 5th Station, Lake Kawaguchi, or view it from afar, the scenery is peaceful and awe-inspiring. It’s a must-see landmark that captures the beauty of Japan’s nature and spirit. A perfect spot for photos, hiking, and unforgettable memories!

A reminder that Mt. Fuji represents strength, resilience, and enduring character, similar to the steadfastness of the mountain itself. A spiritual symbol of spiritual growth and enlightenment, a national symbol of Japan's strength, and a source of artistic inspiration.

The place has an incredible vibe; the journey from Tokyo is by train and takes about 2 hours. But the scenery is beautiful. If you're lucky, you might be able to see the top of Mount Fuji, but it's usually obscured by clouds.

Don't underestimate this place, some may so it's a walk in the park but it's not. If you're not fit, you will suffer, especially if you plan on ascending and descending on the same day which is what I had done. I do a lot of walk and hike but this was the first proper mountain I had ever climbed. It wasn't so much of my fitness that was an issue, but rather, the altitude sickness. And yes, altitude sickness is real! About ⅔ into the climb, I started feeling the affects of it. For every few steps I went up in elavation, I kept stopping because I felt like hurling. Eventually, I threw up three times, at three different stages of the latter part of the climb. My companion on the other hand, who had never done this let alone walking or hiking, didn't suffer a bit. So it does differ in affects, from person to person. But having said that, do stay overnight and acclimatise for God's sake, as it will make the climb more pleasurable.

A true symbol of Japan’s natural beauty and spirit — perfect for photos, hikes, and lifelong memories.

Overall a good camping with some indoor places for kids to play on case of rain for example. The camping spots are okay. The one we got was wide but only made of stones which is not ideal to lay a tent comfortably, and not good to put tent pegs in. Very clean bathrooms and showers.

Chureito Pagoda, located in Arakurayama Sengen Park, offers an iconic view of Mt. Fuji and is a popular spot for capturing picturesque photos. Accessible via 398 steps, the pagoda stands behind the five-story structure and provides a stunning backdrop of the mountain. While it can get crowded during cherry blossom season and autumn, visiting in February may offer a quieter experience with fewer visitors.
What a special spot! We hiked all the way up to the totally overcrowded main pic spot and then somehow had it in us to keep climbing. So glad we did!! Just a little higher up and there were next to no people and much more space to enjoy the view. Awesome little food trucks and lots of restaurants to explore at the base. There is a great little booth selling pictures and little souvenirs. All cash! I can’t even imagine how beautiful this area is in peak cherry blossoms. We were on the early side of season and nothing was in bloom here yet. Most people seemed like they were there on a tour, they got lucky it was a clear and sunny day. Just the day before was snowing and completely cloudy. We came over for the day from Hakone by taxi which was on the expensive side but so so worth it. We wanted to have the flexibility to come on a clear day and it turned out to be the best move all trip!

Chureito Pagoda: Great Effort, Small Reward The visit to the Chureito Pagoda is a classic example of excessive effort for an insufficient payoff—unless, of course, you luck out with the perfect day. The frustration begins immediately: an exorbitant parking fee of 1,000 JPY is demanded on almost every street corner, giving the feeling of being squeezed by tourists even before starting the climb. Next comes the exhausting ascent up hundreds of steps. This is a significant physical effort that certainly leaves visitors with high expectations for what awaits them at the top. But to great disappointment, the pagoda itself is not particularly impressive. It's nice, but it hardly justifies the arduous climb. In fact, the entire experience hinges on visibility: If you are lucky enough to have a clear, sunny day where Mount Fuji is revealed in all its glory and perfectly frames the red pagoda, then the picture is worth a million yen, and the effort is justified. However, if you arrive on a hazy, cloudy, or simply low-visibility day, the whole experience turns into a waste of precious time and energy. Bottom Line: It's only worth visiting if you are absolutely certain that the visibility to Mount Fuji's peak will be perfect.

I went at 5:30am in the morning thinking the crowd wouldn't be so bad. There definitely was a crowd there to see the iconic view of the pagoda and Mt Fuji. But the crowd wasn't too intense. Majority like minded "travellers". Too early for the mainstream tourist and influencer wannabes. The next time I think I would go just before daybreak and watch the sun rise over the majestic mountain. If you're thinking about taking the stairs up, it is a bit of a hike up, so be prepared. Don't be ashamed to have a stop and drink some water. There's a toilet at the top as well. And if you want the trail continue into the mounting going to the other side toward Lake Kawaguchi.

We visited this place during the second week of October 2025. We had booked a Mount Fuji tour on Klook, the guide took us to Oshino Hakkai, Lawson station, Lake Kawaguchigo and this pagoda was our last stop near this area. Our guide said that it would take just 30 minutes to go upstairs for a healthy person. I managed to climb the first 50 steps but my leg started giving up. I even felt nauseous and sat in between for a while. Then I had a sudden rush of adrenaline and started analysing why am I here at Japan if I can’t even climb 500 stairs to goto a viewpoint. Then I slowly started again and took break between every 15/20 steps. My husband whom I had asked to go earlier had already reached the top and made a new friend from Mexico and was talking to him. He was delighted to see that I made it, I was over the moon because I never gave up. The view of Mount Fuji was incredible. On our way back we shared a lot of stories with the Mexican friend. Overall a wholesome experience.

On our trip to Japan, my wife really wanted to see Mount Fuji from this top rated location. Not many people know that there is a dedictaed website that shows visibility level of Mount Fuji and provides hourly updates. We took a bus from Tokyo (Shinjuku station) to Chuodo Shimo Yoshida station and walked to the pagoda to see this stunning view. The walk to the entrance of pagoda is about 20 minute and then up to the pagoda is another 15-20 minute hike but definitely worth it.

We arrived at 715am on a cloudy October Tuesday morning. The pagoda is surrounded by beautiful forest, the observation deck serves to give you that magic photo with the pagoda and Mt Fuji behind it. We didn’t see the mountain today but it was still a beautiful sight. There is quite a walk to get to the pagoda up stairs or going around a winding path. There were signs warning you about bears (we didn’t see any) and there were hardly any people at this time of day. You can bring your dog for a nice walk too if you like. Parking is available, it seems you must pay for all or most of them but it’s worth it. It’s sad we didn’t get the ‘magic’ shot but it was a peaceful walk in a lovely area.

Lake Kawaguchi or Lake Kawaguchiko as I called it offers one of the best and most picturesque views of Mt.Fuji. The lake is like serenity itself with stunning autumn foliage. I highly recommend taking the lake boat cruise that offers 20-minute excursion to the lake. You can have sn amazing view of Mt. Fuji on the boat cruise itself. Lake Kawaguchiko is a gem.

This is one of the most interesting temples I've seen in Japan - it just feels so active, vibrant and alive. Not just a historical site, this temple serves as the head temple of the Nichiren sect of Buddhism. There's a ropeway to the top of the mountain with very good views and a cafeteria on top.

Nestled high in the Yamanashi mountains, this ancient temple offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The drive up the winding mountain roads is an experience in itself, with each turn revealing breathtaking views of the lush landscape. What truly sets this temple apart is its spaciousness and tranquility. Unlike some of the more crowded temples in Japan, this hidden gem offers a sense of peace and solitude. Visitors can wander the grounds at their own pace, taking in the stunning architecture and meticulously maintained gardens. The temple's rich history and spiritual significance are palpable, creating a truly Zen-like atmosphere. A notable feature is the temple's grand staircase, a climb of 286 steps (if my friend's counting was correct!). This ascent, while perhaps not for the faint-hearted, rewards those who persevere with an even greater sense of accomplishment and a deeper immersion into the temple's elevated sanctuary. The temple is embraced by verdant greenery, with towering trees and vibrant foliage creating a sense of harmony with nature. The air is clean and crisp, and the only sounds are the gentle rustling of leaves and the distant chirping of birds. It's the perfect place to unwind, reflect, and reconnect with oneself. Whether you're a seasoned temple visitor or a first-time explorer, this ancient site in Yamanashi is sure to leave a lasting impression. Its tranquil atmosphere, stunning natural surroundings, and rich history – combined with the invigorating climb up its impressive staircase – make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a spiritual and rejuvenating experience.

A huge temple with a majestic gate at sanmon. Attended the morning service at 530am, although i could not underdstand a word of the mantra, i felt welcomed and there was a strong atmosphere of life and religion. Visitors can tour from 1 end of the temple to the other end from the main hall. Highly recommend this place

Absolutely gorgeous temple. There is many stories written about Kuonji and they are all right. This temple is magnificent, vast and very beautiful. We were lucky and got a tour from one of the volunteer guide, who took us through the entire complex. I can highly recommend coming to Minobu and visiting Kuonji, you will have unforgettable experience.

Tempura restaurant
Located just a short walk from Kawaguchiko Station, Fuji Tempura Idaten offers a modern and relaxed dining experience. The restaurant serves a variety of freshly prepared tempura dishes at reasonable prices. Guests can enjoy an array of options including shrimp, soft-shell crab, vegetables, and even fugu pufferfish. Additionally, there are vegan choices available made with seasonal produce from local farmers.
We had lunch at this popular tempura restaurant after morning visit to Kawaguchi-ko area and about 30 minutes wait in queue in front of the shop. You just need to put your name on the wait list and when your number called, be ready. I ordered the assorted prawn / shrimp tempura with extra Yamanashi / Yoshida Udon. My wife got the cheap Udon + 1 shrimp tempura set, and an extra fried veggie kaki-age. All dishes are great, and the tempura were top notch. The batters were crispy but not oily so good frying technique is applied. The Yoshida Udon are thick, a bit firm and yet has nice chewy texture when you bite them. Good combo with the tempura. All dishes cost us around ¥ 5,300 after consumption tax. We got free cold water drink from the bar, so all costs are related to food dishes but they're still good value for your money considering good quality and portion. Please note that you can apply different salt condiments to your dishes as per your preferences, but we love the yuzu and matcha salts. You order dishes using the tablet ordering system and they have the English option. You can pay at the cashier using V/MC payment cards so another big plus for international customers. The restaurant is quite spacious and you can choose to sit on the bar like us or the table. The ambience is good and the place is bright and clean, good environment for family lunch.

A lot of tourists come to this tempura restaurant and yeah my friends who visit japan also recommend us as well. To be honest there were so many customers but no staff cared about people who waited outside. so i went inside and asked then I can go without waiting. And since lots of people said it’s delicious i expect a lot but.. yeah as expected it was disappointed Why? First before tempura come they served you rice and soup and I ordered soba , soba came first but need to wait tempura around 10-15min which you know.. rice was gonna cold andddd soba.. the noodles become like extended i was a bit disappointed. When tempura comes. Well yes it’s delicious but to be honest, i cannot say wow oh my goodness it’s toooo goood. Naaaah. It’s delicious as normally!!! Flour was a bit too thick for me. Yeah it’s not much oily that’s why everyone like it I think? But.. hmm well ok it’s just good. If I need to wait for this restaurant? No for 100% But if i just happened to come here , well try once also okay :) All is depends on you. I don’t say it is bad. I say it’s good as normally. Try one is okay tho:)

I wanted to have tempura and noodles after a long ride from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji. We found this famous restaurant on Google. I decided to give them a try. We are lucky to have the last big table when we arrived at the restaurant very late in the evening. I knew they were good as soon as I walked into the restaurant. They're swamped, and the food smells good. The tempura and all other dishes are very delicious. The service is also excellent. We have a very enjoyable meal after a long day.

Dined here while waiting for the bus back to town. The eel they served was huge and tasty, paired with a good amount of rice that leaves you feeling full and satisfied. The tempura that came with it helps to reset the palette a bit, and the dipping sauce gave a fresh taste. I enjoyed the meal!

We came here for a meal on a Sunday, and it was the ideal way to warm up on a cold winter day. The food was excellent and really hit the spot. I especially want to praise the one of the servers, a very kind woman in a hijab. She was so friendly and helpful. We can't wait to visit again!

Amazing place to eat. The udon noodles were my favorite and the tempura egg. My husband also liked what he ordered. Highly recommend the this restaurant.
Jackelyne B — Google review
The tempura was just average — nothing memorable. The only thing that impressed me was the fish suridane, but since we have similar seasoning in my country, I didn’t buy any. The grilled chicken was quite disappointing. There was only one staff member working at the time, and she seemed to be handling everything by herself. She forgot to give us a dividing plate, so I couldn’t start eating until I waited a long time to get her attention. Also, I found the overall pricing quite overpriced for the quality and service provided.

One of the few restaurants open late at night in the Fujikawaguchiko area. It's known for its tempura dishes, so we ordered the Fujisan Tendon set, arranged to resemble Mount Fuji and suitable for 2–3 people. The set includes miso soup and tempura sauce, which are self-service at a dedicated station. The food took quite a while to be served, as the restaurant was full even at 8:30 PM. The atmosphere was lively and crowded, partly due to live music. There was nothing particularly special about the tempura or the sauce. Its main highlight is the very large portion size — even enough for up to 4 people. However, the price is quite high, likely due to its location in a busy tourist area.

Italian restaurant
La Luce is a top-rated Italian restaurant in Fujikawaguchiko, serving pasta, pizza and Italian-style ice creams. The restaurant has a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes, as well as full bar service. There is also seating for large groups, plus highchairs and table service available.
Very good pizza for Japan. Not the best in my life but a well made pizza if you‘re craving something different than Japanese food. Very good service and very nice workers. Charming place and really nice ambiance.

The dinner was just okay, but the appetizers—especially the mushroom and garlic bread—were a 10/10! Everything else, including the pasta and pizza, was pretty mid. Still, the staff was kind and the atmosphere was relaxed.
V — Google review
Wow, what an amazing experience at La Luce! We were four people and decided to go all in — ordered ten different dishes — and honestly, each one was better than the last. The flavors were incredible, the presentation beautiful, and you could really feel the passion in every plate. The service deserves a special mention — warm, attentive, and simply perfect. The staff made us feel so welcome and really added to the whole experience. If you’re anywhere near Mount Fuji, don’t miss this gem. Easily one of the best meals we’ve had in Japan!

I will miss this place! My partner and I went for dinner both nights while we stayed in the town. The food was delicious and the staff attentive and very kind. We ordered the tomato pasta, mushroom and bacon pasta and the garlic bread, all were spectacular and full of flavour. I really recommend if you are in the area. We were there for when they opened in the evening to make sure we got a seat!

The chef was very generous to do modification as per our requirement. Not to forget the Risotto and pizza were delicious… the Tiramasu desert was a delight..! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Italian food!!

Lovely food, we had pizza and risotto and a glass of wine. Creme brulee for dessert (a bit too cold if I'm being picky), really enjoyed it. Not much in the way of sidewalks when walking there so maybe opt for driving if you're not very close by
James S — Google review
It was okay. The interior smelled a bit weird to me upon first entering. Music was bizarre too - they played instrumental versions of children’s nursery rhymes on loop. The lady waiting on us was nice and attentive, but kept staring at us and watching us eat after she brought us our food. It was uncomfortable. Food was average and met the need if you were looking for a break from Japanese cuisine, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you were looking for an Italian place, specifically. Garlic toast was good.
Sanjana M — Google review
Sometimes, you need to take a night off from Japanese food. La Luce is a good option for a post-Fuki climb pizza. The menu is extensive, and the food is pretty good (graded on a curve for the area). Service is a bit quirky as they will not seat you until your entire party arrives... and the menu warns that some dishes will take a while. Despite this warning, we found that the food was served promptly, although the kitchen did forget one of our dishes (less one star for service). Pricing is reasonable.

Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center is a must-visit for train enthusiasts. It showcases the future world’s fastest bullet train and features an exciting test track where visitors can witness the maglev in action, reaching speeds of up to 500 km/hr. The center offers informative exhibits on the cutting-edge technology behind this revolutionary mode of transportation, which aims to significantly reduce travel times between Kofu and Tokyo.
This is a cool museum for the new maglev trains that can goo 500 km/hour. They have some displays and a movie theatre with an 8 minute movie. The best part is you get to see the train pass by every 15 minutes or so. There are two building. The main exhibit and viewing platform are in the 2nd building but the view from the 1st building is actually nicer.

Even on a rainy day! Small entrance fee! Just be sure to check test-run schedules (not every day) Many families with small kids, lots of activities for them and a playroom for babies. Every time the train runs you’ll have an announcement to get ready at the next window. Small theater. Snacks and ice cream options. Spotless restrooms.

We had an amazing day here even with no test runs scheduled. Spent 3 hours. Staff was so friendly and a lot of interesting things to read and see - the demo of magnetic levitation was mind boggling. There is no cafe on site so eat lunch before or bring your own food.

We visited several train museums, but seeing a real 500 km/h Maglev live from the terrace is something else ! Don’t miss the scientific demonstrations of how the train works, really impressive. It’s a 10 minute taxi ride from the station in case you have a stopover on your way to Mount Fuji, but in this case make sure you ask for the taxi to wait for you (40-45 min visit).
Quentin G — Google review
A little out of the way, but the scenery of the area makes the travel there worth it. An informative place... the diorama is well done.. unfortunately then maglev not running when we went, still an enjoyable experience... (for me anyway) and the boy liked it. Is it worth another visit when the boy is older? Yeah I'd go again.
Mark A — Google review
If you are in any way interested in trains, this is a must-see. The world's fastest train, Maglev (known as Linear Shinkansen in Japanese), performing test runs back and forward on the test track. The thunder-like roar and rumble as the white bullet effortlessly screams past you at over 500km/h is unmatched by anything on rails today and is awe-inspiring. Be sure to visit on a testing day (calendar is available online), and you will see multiple passes during your visit. Screens display the test unit's location and speed, and there's plenty of warning to get to one of the multiple viewing locations to see it pass. Within the exhibition centre itself is a previous test unit, along with many displays on how the technology works and the plans for the first commercial deployment between Tokyo and Osaka, of which the test track will become a part. The only downside is the site is a bit of a faff to get to by public transport. Note that while Otsuki is on the Chuo line, the vast majority of trains from Tokyo do not go there, instead requiring a change at Takao. From Otsuki there is a rather infrequent bus, or it's about ¥2500 by taxi. There is another bus service from the centre which operates to Tsuru University, which runs by Kasei station from which you can connect. This bus is also infrequent and does not appear on Google maps but does accept Suica. A little sign at the bus stop shows times for this service and buses towards Otsuki

We had such an amazing lunch at Shinibi No Sato. The food was great and the atmosphere even better! The garden is beautiful with fantastic viewss of Mount Fuji. The staff and ninjas are wonderful and so entertaining. Highly recommend a visit here.

The Ninja Village is nice especially for kids and the staff was brilliant (I saw some families with children and they were having a blast). We were here for lunch as part of an excursion and the food was good, with vegetables available (so, healthy choices possible!). I only think there should be more food for these excursions as there simply wasn’t enough for everyone. Beautiful scenery and views of Mount Fuji!

Fun outing with the kids. When i came here pre Covid, there’s seafood set lunch. Now these’s none, so as muslim we have very very limited choice of food here (not recommended). There’s also an entrance fee of JPY1,800 per adult to enter this place (i deducted a star due to this). The place is clean and beautiful, with a garden overlooking mt fuji. Love that the place is not crowded even during golden week. All the ninjas (staff) were friendly and accomodative when you ask for pictures/ they even volunteer to take your picture.
Ina M — Google review
Such a tourist trap. We stopped here for lunch during a Mount Fuji day trip. The buffet service was poor, with limited options and quantities. By the time I reached the buffet table, even the rice was almost gone. Despite there being two buffet tables, each group was only allowed to use one, which was badly organised. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Also, the toilets didn’t even have soap to wash your hands. The restaurant view was beautiful though.

Absolutely lovely place. Amazing food and atmosphere, even got to see a ninja. Make sure to walk the garden as well

Ate as part of a bus tour. It was buffet style. The food was mediocre and mostly cold (room temp). The "ninja village" aspect was pretty mediocre too. It looked like there was supposed to be some sort of activities or something in the garden area, but all looked disused and we're empty when we visited.

We came here as part of our mt. Fuji trip. Had an amazing lunch experience here. Food was really great. Having lunch with a view of the Mt. Fuji, luckily it was a clear day and the mount was perfectly visible. The garden was so nice, but we could not see the ninjas as expected, not do any activities as there was some work maintenance going on. But still, it was so nice to stroll around the place.

Nestled in a picturesque setting, Saruhashi Bridge is a stunning wooden structure that captivates visitors with its unique design and breathtaking views. Spanning 30.9 meters across the Katsura River gorge, this remarkable bridge stands 31 meters high and is supported by an intricate arrangement of wooden struts from both banks. Known as the 'monkey bridge,' it boasts a rich history dating back to the 7th century and showcases an architectural style inspired by folklore about monkeys forming a bridge.

It’s historically important wood bridge, Saruhashi. It’s so beautiful. With a length of 30.9m, a width of 3.3m, and a height of 31m, it is a special one that does not use piers at all, and is supported by four layers of ”Hanegi” that overhang from both banks that rise sharply.
KIICHIRO K — Google review
The Saruhashi Bridge (猿橋) is also known as the 'monkey bridge'. Spanning the gorge of the Katsura River, it is a prime example of the hanebashi design. The bridge is supported by a series of cantilever beams set in the opposing cliff faces. Built mid-18th century, the Saruhashi was along the Koshu Kaido (main highway of the Edo period). We briefly stopped to enjoy the elegant design of the bridge and the scenic beauty of the gorge filled with ginkgo and maple trees. The name 'monkey bridge' is associated with a local legend in which monkeys bridged the chasm with their bodies so that a couple could cross during the Nara period. A later story tells that the original rickety plank structure was so precarious that "only an agile monkey could cross it".

The location is particularly notable for its abundance of maple trees, making it a prime destination for viewing autumn foliage. Visitors can also explore the small on-site museum displaying samurai artifacts for only 500.
It’s so nice place for feeling Japanese spring. Now Sakura is full blooming. This temple is well known as place where Great Samurai warrior “Takada Shingen” has been sleeping. If you have a Japan Rail Pass and look for good place without Foreign tourists, you should come here. Yamanashi prefecture is famous as a sweet fruit and wine area. I went “Ichigo-gari” before coming to here. You can enjoy to eat fresh sweet strawberries in spring. May to June, best season for cherry, July to September best for grapes.

Surprisingly beautiful temple with excellent grounds. 300¥ gets you in the main complex for a walking loop in the old structure and surrounding gardens, which is well worth it. Kai Zenkōji Temple, located in Kofu city, is an ancient and remarkable Buddhist temple with a rich history. Built by Lord Shingen in 1558, it was intended to safeguard Buddhist treasures from Shinano Zenko-ji Temple during the battles of Kawanakajima. The temple houses the largest wooden structures in Eastern Japan and symbolizes significant treasures in Japanese culture. Visitors can explore the atmospheric main hall and experience unique acoustic properties that reflect sound back at them.
For those of you visiting from overseas, do you know Takeda Shingen, Japan's strongest Sengoku warlord? During the Battle of Kawanakajima, he moved the main hall, Amida Nyorai, various Buddhas, temple treasures, and the bell to this location so that Zenkoji Temple would not be hit by the flames of war. It's not flashy, but you can enjoy the good old Japanese atmosphere. Please come and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.

Kai Zenkoji Temple was underwhelming. While the temple itself is decent, it lacks the charm and care that I expected. The surrounding area felt somewhat uninspired, and there wasn’t much information provided about the temple's history or significance. It didn't have the peaceful atmosphere I was hoping for, making the visit feel a bit lackluster. Overall, it’s not worth going out of your way to see.
Hannes P — Google review
A historic temple very worthwhile stopping by if you're in Kofu. The grounds are not huge, but the main hall is impressive and attractively weathered. There's a 'hell' you can go through feeling for a lock in the pitch black basement -- more fun than it sounds! Also take time to go off to the right of the main hall and there is a collection of interesting statues of Buddhist deities particular to the Yamanashi area.

Visited on 15th Jan. 2019. An old street yet with really nice atmosphere. There are few interesting shops there. Can get some souvenir or have a desert. Additionally, paid parking lot is not far at all. Decent place for taking a walk.

Nice shopping area but it's nothing much. Most impressive here for me is hanasaku coffee.

The soft cream is very good. Matcha one tasted even better than the one in Kanazawa.

There are a lot of gems and stones here but the price is quite pricey. I rather support the gem market opened at Kofu station. They're cheaper but the quality is a bit lower

Nice little shops and restaurants. So close to the station and convenient.

Japanese regional restaurant
Udon noodle restaurant
富士見茶屋いろり, a regional Japanese restaurant, is known for its unique ambiance and traditional cuisine. Situated near a replica of the Takeda signal tower, it attracts attention not only for its delectable dishes but also for its proximity to historical landmarks. The restaurant embodies the spirit of ancient times when warlords like Shingen strategized against their rivals in Kai.
(Translated by Google) This is a hotou restaurant located across the road from the roadside station Hanakage no Sato Machioka. I've only ever eaten hoto at a certain chain restaurant, but the soup stock was good and the miso wasn't too heavy, so it was very delicious. I added shichimi to change the taste halfway through, but it was still delicious, and the mustard greens that came with it were also delicious. Although I only stayed for a short time due to time constraints, I am grateful to the staff for being so kind. The menu is posted not only in text but also in photos, making it very easy to understand. It has become my favorite store. I would like to try other menu items as well. I'll bother you again.

Great view of Mt Fuji if the weather is right and you get a seat next to window. A bit expensive but was very tasty after a long hiking day.

(Translated by Google) The restaurant's exterior looked prestigious, and I was a little worried about whether I could afford it, but the food was reasonably priced. The hoto was surprisingly bland, so bland that I wondered if they'd forgotten to add the broth, and I found myself checking the reactions of the other customers and seeing if they had left any leftovers. The noodles were chewy, but the vegetables were crunchy, and the noodles and toppings were simply in hot water, leaving no flavor at all. If this is the general flavor of Yamanashi hoto, I felt it wasn't to my taste. The small side dishes were also generally salty. The set rice (rice) was served with sesame salt, but it was still too salty. I'm sorry, but I ended up leaving more than half of it.

(Translated by Google) I went to a lovely restaurant with a view of Mt. Fuji to eat Yamanashi's specialty, houtou. When I entered the restaurant, it was filled with amazing items, like a museum. It was filled with alcove decorations, paintings, armor, and belongings of famous people. It's rare to get to see these things up close and personal. The houtou was delicious and the view was amazing, so I'm glad I went. I'd like to visit again. Thank you for the meal. (Translated by Google) We were shown to a seat by the window with a view of Mt. Fuji. The view was great and it felt great. I ordered the Houtou set meal. The Houtou was seasoned sweetly, with a rich buttery flavor. It was filled with plenty of ingredients, with melted pumpkin becoming part of the soup. The saltiness of the red rice was well balanced. It also came with a variety of small side dishes, so it was a satisfying set meal in terms of both volume and content.

(Translated by Google) I came to Yamanashi, so I thought I'd try some hoto before going home, and I went in before 5pm. I saw a local person eating a yakiniku set meal, and it looked delicious, so I changed my mind. There were many other dishes to choose from, such as horse sashimi, motsuyaki, and shogayaki, so I was undecided, but I decided on the yakiniku set meal. In the photo, the rice in the front may be too big, and the plate with the meat in the back may look small, but the rice is just big, and the meal is more than enough! The meat is pork. The strong seasoning makes the rice go down well. The small bowl of boiled kiriboshi daikon radish was also delicious. I thought I wouldn't be able to finish the rice, but I ended up munching it down in no time. By the way, the person who ordered the hoto said it was delicious too! I'd like to try the hoto next time. Thank you for the meal.

(Translated by Google) The hoto was not tasty. I should have read the reviews properly. I should have been suspicious when I saw the restaurant was empty. I was surprised that the food came so quickly after I ordered, but the noodles were chewy and soggy. The broth had a weak miso flavor and no dashi stock. The vegetables - pumpkin, potato, taro, carrot, etc. - were also soggy and unsatisfying. It seemed like they had prepared it in advance. I think 1,380 yen is a bit expensive for this. Of course, I couldn't finish it and some of it was left. It was a shame because I had made a great trip to Yamanashi. It's a shame as the restaurant had a nice atmosphere.

Ramen restaurant
Katsura is a conveniently located restaurant near Otsuki station, offering delicious Gyoza and addictive Ramen broth. The vintage ambience provides a glimpse of old Japan, with sufficient lighting for a pleasant dining experience. The staff is friendly and accommodating, providing English menus and quick service. The menu includes a variety of sides and strong coffee, making it an ideal spot to enjoy with friends or family.
Found this little nice restaurant when we were about to go back to Tokyo. I fell in love with the place although I wonder who dusts everything and spent the time looking around at every details of cute decorative pieces and enjoying the atmosphere. It felt really homy and private, we were there in non busy hour so it was nice to have the area for ourselves. The ramen and sake was good especially during colder months when we were there. The place was clean, toilet was clean, which is the most important thing in every restaurant. The ambience was great. You can choose to sit on the chair on floor style. Located just outside Otsuki station, in one of the side of the round about where you can catch bus. I will definitely drop by again if I have the chance to visit the area.

An amazing one off experience. It’s right outside the station Otsuki. Amazing Ramen and sides as well as strong coffee. We had to order quite a few things extra and while they’re not the greatest English speakers, they are very patient and they brought us everything. The food is honestly some of the best Ramen I have ever had. Reasonably priced.

Their Gyoza is soooo delicious! It is made with heart, surely it is! The Gyoza outer layer is so crispy, yet they have thick texture. Ramen broth is addictive, services are so good, I have reason to believe a couple owns this place and they are so kind to everyone. Ambience gives out vintage feel of old Japan, but lighting is sufficient thus you can enjoy your dining, they have sake laid out neatly and sorted by color and words every one of them (didn't took picture of it though)

Decent ramen close to Otsuki station. I think the ramen is very average and nothing to be excited about. The gyoza apparently got some TV award. What's unique about the gyoza is that they put mochi inside the filling. I would say that gyoza is probably the best thing this restaurant offers. Because of the location, I'd say this place is a good place to go to if you're hungry while waiting for the train.

Absolutely perfect. We had an hour transfer at Otsuki station and this place couldn't be more conveniently located, it's right outside the station. The staff was very friendly and got us seated right away, with water and an English menu. Food came out quick and was presented in a very attractive way, and tasted just as good as it looked. Definitely worth it for others passing through. If you don't have as long a transfer as we did, consider taking a later train, it's worth it!

The place is small and cosy. Staff is polite. Serve us ice water upon arrival promptly. Food is delicious, comfort food. For the price you are paying, couldn’t ask for more. Gave us a jug of ice water to refill also. Nice dumpling with special Yuzu vinegar sauce. Was happy they serve small serving of noodle here.
