Botanical garden
Castle
The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, located in Meranerland, boast terraced landscapes with stunning art installations and 'experience stations' offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Spanning 8.5 hectares, these gardens showcase over 80 plant worlds from diverse natural and cultural landscapes worldwide. Visitors can explore four distinct garden sections representing indigenous forests of America and Asia, Mediterranean environments, local culture, and European garden design.
Spectacularly large and well-tended botanical garden. We spent several hours and could have spent more- so extensive the different collections. Spots to stop and rest, well-signed, mostly accessible with planning. There are stairs but those can be avoided. There are sections tailored to children and others for those who like modern sculpture or constructed points of interest. Specifically there are two “thrill” installations that allow visitors to overlook the garden mid-air.

Perfect place to unwind on a rest day A beautiful and relaxing spot — perfect if you're taking a break from mountain trails. Highly recommended for families with kids; there's enough to see and do to fill an entire day. The gardens are full of variety, with scenic viewpoints, playful zones, and interactive features that keep everyone engaged. Try to visit on a sunny day — the colors pop, and the views over Merano and the surrounding mountains are spectacular. A great way to recharge before your next hike!
Rafał M — Google review
Beautiful gardens. Only walking through them can take half a day if you take tour time and stop for a coffee at one of the coffee places. There is also a couple of museums inside. And sometimes they have special events like in the winter the lights installation. Great for kids too all year around.
Malena B — Google review
Huge botanical garden with different sections devoted to the plants of the South Tyrol and other regions. Plan to spend at least 3 hours there. We especially enjoyed the Garden for Lovers, the panoramic viewing platform and the Lotus Pond. Wear comfortable shoes! Lots of walking. Great place for kids. So much to see!
Carol G — Google review
If you like flowers and special plants go here. For me all the extra information doesn’t bother me. However I do know that’s me. I did like the hike/walk in the park, lots of nice views. All in all nice place to visit we spend 2/3 hr in the park
Rob L — Google review
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. The beautifully landscaped gardens and the charming museum inside the castle make it a worthwhile experience. Be prepared for quite a bit of walking though: to see everything the gardens have to offer, you’ll cover around 7 kilometres and tackle plenty of elevation gain.
Mathias F — Google review
The park is very beautiful and spacious, with excellent green areas and a lovely lake that makes you feel surrounded by nature. In addition, there is a café and a restaurant, with really good services. I definitely recommend the experience if you visit Merano.

Giardini Trauttmansdorff is a real treat for nature lovers and garden enthusiasts alike. With its stunning landscapes and diverse plant collections, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you're strolling through the Mediterranean terraces, exploring the water lily ponds, or marveling at the exotic flora in the subtropical rainforest, every corner offers a new delight. Plus, the views of the surrounding mountains are simply breathtaking. Don't miss the chance to learn about local and international plants through interactive exhibits and educational displays. And when you need a break, grab a snack at one of the cafes and soak in the beauty around you. It's definitely a must-visit when you're in the area!

Nestled in Merano/Meran, South Tyrol, Castel Trauttmansdorff is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and tourists alike. The castle boasts the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, featuring over 80 garden landscapes spread across 12 hectares with an altitude difference of 100 meters. Visitors can explore the meticulously groomed areas showcasing a stunning variety of flowers, bushes, and trees from around the world.
A beautiful place with lots of original and rare flowers. I recommend going there with your friends, then it is interesting to explore. In addition, the castle in which the restaurant is located. Really stunning place.

Beautiful garden with a wide variety of botanical riches--from the "trees of the world" area to the amazing and artful viewing platform set high above the garden to the more formal plantings around the big pond and in the sunny hills near the castle. We spent a few hours here and enjoyed every minute.

Absolutely wonderful gardens, walks and fascinating flowers, trees and animals. Certainly worth a visit as the colours are exceptional.

Great place with a beautiful garden. You can stay hours and enjoy the beauty. Easy access by buses from the center.

We visited the Botanical Gardens of Schloss Trauttmansdorff and highly recommend it. Parking at P3 or P4 is free and just a short 5-minute walk to the entrance. The park is beautifully designed with a wide variety of landscapes and attractions. We started on the left and worked our way through to the right, spending about 2.5 hours in total. There’s a lot to see and experience. Some paths are quite steep, so it might be a bit challenging for older visitors. Overall, a stunning place well worth the visit.
Christian W — Google review
Must see if you are in the area, 3-4 hours is minimum to be able to see all
Ivan S — Google review
This place is so awesome I don't even want to write a review about it, it might make it busier in this era of overtourism. But anyway: this garden is too beautiful to be true: the location in the Alps, the hilly terrain of the park, and the variety of plants and flowers and artwork. Usually it's sunny here which really helps. We were here in late October which was perfect. Walking around is not really doable for people who don't walk well. Parking is easy, there's also a bus to the station and it's an easy detour from the Brenner tollway.
Michael B — Google review
The garden itself is beautiful but be aware that there are car thieves operating in the car parks. Smashed windows and stolen belongings are a common occurrence.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Terme Merano, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Stadt Centrum. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Terme Merano

Thermal baths
Terme Merano is a seasonal thermal park and year-round indoor spa featuring 25 bathing pools, saunas, and a fitness center. The Hotel Terme Meran offers a quiet and spacious room with friendly staff. The hotel boasts an adults-only thermal infinity pool on the rooftop overlooking the town and snow-capped mountains. During winter holidays, visitors can enjoy ice skating at the nearby rinks or explore the Christmas market in the decorated spa town.
Came here on a rainy day. This place is very large with many pools that have different temperatures. There are area where you can lay indoor and sleep/rest. They do not provide towels and are additional to entrance fee. The rate was 18€ for 2 hours or 20€ for 3 hours. Each additional hour after the 2 hour mark is 10€.
Vu N — Google review
Terme di Merano is a true gem in this small city. It’s always a pleasure to return and spend some time in the lovely pools. However, this time the experience was less relaxing due to children and teenagers screaming and splashing about all day. The lifeguards do their best to keep the situation under control, but it doesn’t seem to be particularly effective. Children, in particular, are allowed access to every pool, rather than being directed to the smaller ones more suited to them. I believe the management should implement stricter rules to ensure children only use the pools designated for them. This would significantly improve the experience for other guests, who would no longer have to endure constant shouting or being splashed. Additionally, the outdoor pool at 37°C wasn’t accessible, as children were continuously diving into it and entering from all directions. This spoils the experience for adults who simply want to relax. I sincerely hope the management considers making some changes.
Waytokyoto — Google review
The experience was generally nice however I felt like the thermal pool had to be a bit hotter. Bistro’s menu can be improved there wasnt that much option. And even though we went on a random Tuesday it was crowded, luckily on holidays&crowded sessions you must reserve beforehand. The hygiene was sufficient.
Merve A — Google review
Nice pools though overcrowded in summer and not cheap. Many rules to follow which could be somewhat more politely expressed: cloakroom full, go outside, just to find out outside you need 1€ change which we did not have, came to cloakroom inside which were NOT FULL! Besides, yelled at for not bringing bought food outside of the bar etc etc... So many tourists so you're just one of them...
Charles C — Google review
Unlike many other reviewers we had a fabulous time here. It was September and pretty quiet, with few children. We preferred the outdoor pools, swimming in the fresh air. Temperatures varied but many pools were 34C. We stayed for 2 hours (it wasn’t warm enough to sit outside in wet costumes) All staff we came across were pleasant. Facilities were spotless. We brought towels, flip flops and shower soaps with us. We didn’t stay for lunch - preferring to go back into town and eat by the river. Lovely experience.
Annie G — Google review
I have to say unfortunately an horrible experience. We had a reservation for a 20 min massage and the spa for the whole day. €118 euros. For this amount of money we expected a relaxing experience. It was quite the opposite. Staff were rude except for the lady at the massage. Massage was a very light but relaxing massage for 15 min. Then we stepped back into the overcrowded hell with the pools and all the people and children. If you have been to a real spa, please avoid this commercial drained organization. Bistro was also a bad experience. Staff were uninterested helping you and a lot was already sold out (we were there at 3PM)
Dion H — Google review
Nice and not that expansive The water should be more warm in my opinion
בן ס — Google review
This place is absolutely not relaxing. I went on a Tuesday afternoon expecting some calm, but it was incredibly overcrowded—people everywhere, chlorine smell hanging in the air, and water splashing all around. Even the adult-only spa area, which is supposed to be more private, was jam-packed. Guests were literally queuing up naked just to get inside. If going nude is your thing, that’s fine, but there was simply no space to enjoy or unwind. It was impossible to relax with the sheer number of people packed into every corner. Terrible experience overall. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, don’t bother coming here.

Perched 1130 meters above sea level, Hotel Colle Kohlern offers breathtaking views of the Dolomites and is just a short walk from the cable car to Bolzano's valley. The restored 19th-century building features spacious rooms with wooden floors and en-suite bathrooms, as well as amenities like a swimming pool, spa, and hot tub.
The food was excellent and there is also an excellent wine list, I come often because everything is really excellent, the restaurant serves both typical South Tyrolean cuisine and Italian and gourmet cuisine, the price is slightly above average but this is due to the quality top of the ingredients! Absolutely recommended!

Found this on the Michelin guide and came in without a reservation. The food was excellent, ambience was a modern-cozy, service was good. It was a very reasonably priced 3-course meal with sparkling wine for two. We were even offered espresso or lemoncello after we paid. We will come again.

Splendid restaurant, best wienerschnitzel and service. What is even more impressive, and that goes for most places in Italy, is that they fill up their wine-list with local produced wines. This restaurant is a very strong recommendation.

Fine, very tasty dinner in an historic building in the middle of the city! great service!
Petra L — Google review
I've been there with my family during our shopping tour through Meran. The service was quite cold and came after a long 5 minute wait. We orderd some drinks and the traditional liverdumplingsoup (Leberknödelsuppe), which was the water-likest soup I ever tasted! The dumpling was really small and contained almost no meat, but a lot flavorless bread... We payed around 40€ for 3 drinks and 3 soups, including the Italian "coperto", for some bread we never got... We won't visit again!

I really didn’t think I could believe the 5 star reviews here, but thought to give it a go anyway. And now I can only say, I would rate this place 6 stars if I could. We had the Rinderfilet and it was absolutely fantastic. We also had the beef burger and Mais. The burger was delicious and an excellent portion size. The ingredients are really high quality, and the beef is cooked perfectly. You can tell the chef really cares about making the food well and he often checks on those who ordered a meat cut to make sure it has been cooked to their liking. A lovely place that I would recommend to everyone coming to Meran.

The Stadt Centrum shopping center features various stores catering to everyday needs such as groceries, clothing, and electronics. While parking may be somewhat challenging due to its location, it is understandable. The selection of shops is acceptable, although the specific assortment may not cater to everyone's preferences. However, it should be noted that the mall maintains a consistently clean environment.
Stadt Centrum may be a compact shopping mall, but it packs a big punch. Spread over three floors, it's an easily navigable shopping haven with a wide variety of stores, ranging from apparel stores to a jewelry shop and optician. This ensures all shoppers find what they need, whether it's groceries, trendy clothing, or the latest electronics. Stadt Centrum is your one-stop destination for all these and more!

Forsterbräu Meran is a renowned restaurant and ale-house situated in Corso Liberta, opposite the main entrance of Kurhaus. Forsterbräu Merano is a restaurant where the food comes faster than you realize you're hungry, and everything is so delicious that you want to write down the recipe in your personal "happiness" diary. The waiters behave like your old and slightly tired friends: they wink, give you a hint, and sometimes just shrug their shoulders with understanding, as if they know all your gastronomic weaknesses. The atmosphere is relaxed, cozy, with a slight touch of "we've been here a long time and we're glad to see you." The perfect place to eat deliciously without straining yourself or pretending to be a serious gourmet.
Vadim S — Google review
The food is always great, especially if you want some typical south Tyrolean dishes. It tends to be busy so sometimes the waiters are a little rushed but always friendly and attentive. We usually make a reservation, but I don't think it's a must as there is LOTS of seating.

Nestled in the heart of Merano on Corso Libertà, right across from the Kurhaus, Forsterbräu Meran is a local landmark and a favorite among tourists. Overall, the place is well-loved, especially for its lively ambiance and wide beer selection. The portions are generous, and it’s a great spot since they stay open late into the night. Price is good

Second time here and still so good. The garden terrace is beautiful, the service is friendly and the food and beer are great.

Nice restaurant in Merano, the food was good but our waiter was borderline rude. Nice atmosphere.
E R — Google review
Great location and atmosphere during the summer as you sit right on one of Merano main streets. We went for typical Tyrolean dishes and it was a good choice. Food was very good, but maybe not great - however you may expect this from a place which is a typical beer garden. Good selection of Forst beers which are produced in a village right next to Merano. Overall well worth it, good food, great experience

The only good thing about this place is the location, terrible service, terrible ice cream. It’s just lucky to be located in the city with nice views otherwise everything else is bad! And after the bad experience you can’t find a waiter, took forever for him to come out!

Really loved sitting down here for an aperitvo; drinks are priced very reasonably and they have a really good wine list in my opinion. Included in the apertivo are fresh, tasty olives and some salty snacks. Worth a drink or two!

Beautiful old church located at the NE section of the Via Portici which runs pretty much east to west. The St. Nicholas' Church (German: Pfarrkirche St. Nikolaus) is the parish church of the town of Merano in South Tyrol, northern Italy. The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of the town. It is located at the end of the Laubengasse in the old town centre between the Domplatz and Pfarrplatz. It was first mentioned in 1220 and was expanded over time in the 14th century before taking its final shape in the year 1465. The architectural style is mainly Gothic. The church consists of three naves. It has well-preserved stained glass windows, and a large rose window over a pointed arched portal, a number of wooden sculptures of saints and paintings that date from different periods. Of particular importance is the large altar and pulpit. Outside is a tall clock tower with a sundial. Old tombstones line the walls and various paintings from the life of Jesus Christ. Behind the church is St. Barbara's Chapel. Recommended

The monument to Empress Elizabeth (Sissi) is like meeting a very stylish lady who, even a century later, looks as if she just came out of a glossy photo shoot. She sits there elegantly, surrounded by greenery, and, frankly, it seems that she is about to ask for a glass of champagne. The place is quiet, cozy, tourists run past, but in vain: here you can not only take a beautiful photo, but also feel that greatness is sometimes expressed in tranquility, and not in pompous columns. An excellent reason to sit down next to it and think: “Yes, some people know how to age beautifully ... even in bronze”

Beyond ordering, the conversation with the landlady is a bit tedious, but that doesn't detract from the overall stay. The inside of the restaurant is very spacious and friendly, so it is definitely recommended even in bad weather!

Fine dining restaurant
Sissi is a renowned restaurant located in Merano, offering refined, multi-course menus and fine wines in an art nouveau dining room and wood-paneled parlor. Despite its sterile surroundings near Via dei Portici, the restaurant surprises diners with rustic regional dishes prepared with precision.
There are very few dinning experiences I have had in my life that can compare with the experience we had at Sissi. We have been to a few Michelin Star restaurants on our travels throughout the years in Europe and while there have been some highlights, I have never had the experience where every single dish was exceptional and memorable but here at Sissi it absolutely was. Andrea and his staff will make you feel like you were invited over to his house for dinner. Throughout the night he would go from table to table speaking to his guests in English, Italian and German which is hard enough to do in one language. His staff were attentive and kind as they explained each dish we ordered as they came out. The staff clearly has a pride for what they were doing. None of this felt forced. Every single thing we had here was memorable and delicious and made with the utmost care and love. The environment of the restaurant was wonderful as it was able to find that nice space between modern and old world with its decor and ambiance. Depending on what time of the year you visit, you might have a nice view of the Castello Principesco (Castle) across the street and the surrounding alps. The restaurant itself sits in the shadow of the mountains where the entrance to a nice walking path “Tappeinerweg” is right next to it. We dined a la carte and I had the following: Antipasti: Tataki di cinghiale, thin wild boar slices in mushroom sauce. While all the dishes were incredible this was the most memorable and if still on the menu I would recommend getting this. Starting off the meal with this dish was a perfect way to set up the upcoming courses. My wife had their take on Vitello Tonnato which is one of her favorite dishes from the the northwest of Italy (Piedmont) that she loved. Primi: I had Gnocchi di patate filled with wild garlic, while my wife had the Ravioli stuffed with roasted meat. Both done perfectly. Gnocchi if made badly can be too heavy or mushy and these were light and fluffy and filled with flavor. Secondi: Galletto di Bresse which was juicy and tender and done perfectly while my wife had the Cervo (deer) done perfectly. I had the Gelato in Olive oil and citrus for a dolce which was a refreshing way to end the meal. We were also treated to some creative amuse bouche courses that were delicious at the beginning and ending of our meals You will not be disappointed dining here, it is well worth it. Andrea and his wife also own the hotel we stayed at, Steinach Townhouse Meran which was amazing as well which I highly recommend if you are planning a stay in the city. I am not an active "reviewer" but I will always make time to write something for a place like this. Locally or family owned places that provide memorable experiences and clearly care about their business and customer base. If you visit Merano this places is a must to eat at and you will not regret it.

While the staff was generally friendly, our experience at this restaurant was disappointing—especially considering the price and its Michelin rating. There were several issues that made the visit underwhelming. Hygiene was a concern, with food flies around the open-air space—even landing in our wine. Accessibility was poor, as I had to carry a stroller up the stairs without help, while being told that this is “my concern to deal with”. The restaurant also showed little flexibility when we asked to stagger dishes due to one parent putting a child to sleep. If accommodating families isn't feasible, it would be better to communicate that upfront. If you cannot be flexible with the unique requests from some of the guests, then do not be surprised with dissatisfaction from the customers Comfort was another problem. The chairs were not suitable for a 2–3 hour meal, and my wife felt noticeably uncomfortable. As for the food, it started off promising—especially the Margherita served in a glass—but only the first few of the seven courses felt creative or memorable. The rest felt uninspired, with dishes like aubergine and basic bread adding little to the experience. The atmosphere didn’t live up to Michelin expectations either. There was no clear dress code, and the overall vibe—including the manager—was very casual. Checkout was also sloppy: we were nearly charged for two wines we never received, fortunately after flagging the mistake the bill was adjusted. was it adjusted correctly, i do not know because the bill just mentions generic wines and not the particular names For the cost, the experience didn’t feel special or worthwhile. We left feeling like the time and money would have been better spent elsewhere. Micheline rating stands for some exceptional experience/journey which this venue failed to deliver in 2025

A remarkable and memorable dining experience! A visit to Merano must include dinner at SISSI; the food was unique in presentation, and exceptional in taste. The ambience was relaxed and comfortable while the service was impeccable and cordial. I will not forget your exquisite lemon dessert! What an unexpected delight and trip to heaven! What we appreciated the most was the friendly regard and solicitousness of the chef/owner Andrea Fenoglio. His great sense of humour was the cherry on the cake! Thank you chef for making our dining experience an unforgettable one. We will be back!

Booked a table a few months out for our stay in Merano. Initially we were disappointed in looking at the menu and not seeing a wine pairing, but we went with the 7-course "new" menu rather than the favorites menu and asked - they DO have a wine pairing specific for each dish available, and it's fantastic. They also asked if we had allergies or anything we didn't particularly like - one of us does not like the flavor of truffle and they gave us a different pasta dish, a level they didn't have to reach! The food was very good and contained local dishes with ideas we never really imagined. The margherita pizza shot was very unique, and a great way to start. The pasta dishes were great, but the eggplant filet was amazing and something we didn't know could be made with only vegetables. The celery ice cream dessert was the most unique. Great service and hospitality throughout, it felt like they welcomed us to their own dining room at their house.

One of the absolute highlights of our trip in the region. Lunch at Sissi was an exceptional experience — the food was simply outstanding, refined without being pretentious, and full of personality. What really stood out was the warm, family-like atmosphere. You feel genuinely welcomed, not just served. Chef Andrea Fenoglio and the whole team have created something truly special. This is the kind of place you plan a trip around. A real gem.

We live in Dubai , but we are Italian 🇮🇹, and were on holiday in the enchanting region of Trentino-Alto Adige, where we had the pleasure of dining at Sissi, the Michelin-starred restaurant of Chef Andrea Fenoglio in Merano. Everything was truly exceptional: the flavors were refined and memorable, the courtesy of the staff impeccable, and above all the Chef’s mastery and savoir-faire shone through in every detail of the experience. An unforgettable evening in a magical setting — highly recommended. 5 stars. 🌟

Meteo Restaurant & Bar, run by the artistic Agata and talented cook/DJ Thomas, is housed in a charming cream-colored building by the Passirio River. The handwritten menu changes regularly but consistently offers delightful dishes like pan dell'Oste and grilled friggitelli for antipasto. Their 24-hour ragu and amatriciana are recommended for primi, followed by a delectable braised meat if available.
I’ll always remember this evening :) Lived the food — some staples like the pasatelli with the 24h ragu and the upside down tiramisu were exceptional, and the creative mains were delicious!

It’s a cool place, just near the river. The atmosphere is nice, you can choose between normal tables, relaxing chairs or sun beds. The food and drinks options good enough. But furniture should be updated! Everything is so old and dirty. The location and idea is brilliant, but bar should be better maintained.

Inventive restaurant, located by the river. The 24 hours ragu was indescribably good. Let the wines be chosen for you. And be sure to ask for a homemade truffle with your coffee
Anita S — Google review
The place is beautiful and quirky, amazing location right by the river. It’s romantic and we found the service to be very attentive and quick. The food however was A) too imaginative (cherries with pasta, pineapple with chilly) and B) way too expensive for the quality and amount. It would be the perfect place, if they simply focused on good and simple dishes.

Amazing experience. On top of being seasonal and local, the food is very original and tasty (and you would die for the dessert made with mozarella foam). The staff is welcoming too. We had no expectations at all as we were in Merano just for 1 night and found this place on google. We ended up having the best meal in the entire holidays! :)
Céline C — Google review
Awful experience in Meteo Restaurant! We left with a very bad feeling...very cold atmosphere and we never got a smile from the waitresses... I almost asked them how much a smile actually costs? :) Both waitresses came across as rude to me... particularly Agata, which I think is the owner, who was strange, moody and actually very condescending with her behaviour and how she spoke to us. Also they have a very odd wine system to complicate customers' lives... they don't have a wine menu, which is ok if it was organsied better...but it's not right to have to go and choose your wine upstairs without knowing how much it costs (the prices are not written by the bottles.) I've never come across a situation like that, where you have to go up and down the stairs with a bottle of wine to ask for the price from the database...? Ridiculously absurd! I go to a restaurant because I like to sit down, relax and be served and have a nice time and that didn't happen here. The food was ok, but expensive for the experience that you get. I never normally write bad reviews but this was too bad an experience to not say anything. I would not reccomend it at all!

For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Meran 2000. Not quite as popular as Terme Merano, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Meran 2000 is a popular ski resort located above the spa town of Merano. It offers skiing, snowboarding, and sledding tracks along with accommodations in cabins and hotels. The resort is known for its 'Winter Nights' celebrations in the huts and bars of Merano and the surrounding area. Visitors can enjoy stunning views from this mountain destination, with easy access to hiking and biking trails during warmer weather.
Good place for skiing and snowboarding. Usually not too crowded compared to larger resorts. Not too many ski runs, but very well maintained

We spent a day here using the summer day pass and had a great time using the playgrounds and cable cars for a brilliant day out. The alpine bob is great fun but has a slow queue.
Nick F — Google review
It's ok but really overpriced and not really worthy of the hype. I mean the views are very nice from the top but it's really overcrowded and there are not many exciting hiking trails. I would recommend buying the tickets online on advance or going after 14 when they offer a "happy hour" reduced price. The cable car runs at a crazy HEIGHT, if you have a fear of height do not look out from the cabin.
Hanka T — Google review
Parking is free, and the afternoon summer ticket for all cable cars and chairlifts was just €26. If you move quickly, you can easily enjoy all the lifts in time. The whole experience was smooth, scenic, and absolutely worth it. Please enjoy—it’s wonderful!

Castello Rametz - Wine Museum is located within the historical Rametz Castle, which has been a significant part of wine culture since 1227. The museum showcases the history and wine-making process of the area, including the first Pinot Nero grape planted in Alto Adige. The castle also offers locally brewed wine and wine tastings, set amidst a picturesque vineyard on a sunny hillside in Meran.
The castle Rametz is a beautfully located castle with a winemuseum, locally brewed wine and winetastings. Don't even try to forget the Kaiserspeck, which is a delicious type of local bacon. The whole castle is beautifully located on a sunny hillside of the city of Meran. It has around 11 hectares of land which is almost full with grapevines. The winemuseum consists of a lot of information about the making of wine in a truly authentic and beautiful castle. The cellar makes you feel like you went back through time and followed a chronological timeline back to the current one. They have a part of the cellar which is called "the treasure room" it consists of the more vintage wines and a medieval bar. The oldest of the wines was from 1964. The owner is a conscientious and welcoming local tyrolian man. He knows a lot of their wine, since it is brewed by themselves which is hardwork. I recommend the wine tasting and combine it with the kaiserspeck platter. It pairs truly magnificiently. I almost forgot to mention that the wine is truly delicious and one of the best I have ever tasted.

We toured the museum and then did a wine tasting. The wine tasting was only 24 euros and included 3 half glass tastings for 2 people along with some snacks including prosciutto. The castle, once a holiday residence for Empress Elisabeth of Austria, now houses this fascinating museum. Visitors can explore exhibits on the evolution of tourism while enjoying panoramic views of Merano and the surrounding mountains from the botanical gardens.
You need a whole day for this place. I actually applaud the use of a castle to house this museum. Great useful use of the building and rather than preserve everything from that era a museum has been carefully and thoughtfully slotted in and around the existing structure. Loved it. It was engaging and interesting. We arrived about 3 and after the main exhibition there wasn't enough time for us to look around the gardens fully but from what we saw they looked stunning. Thoroughly recommend.

This is one of the best attractions in Merano, 80 different type of landscapes and plans have been set over here. I like the exciting lookout bridge in which hanging out of top, quite thrilling! but have a great panoramic view over Merano. In the castle where people experience old time interior living style, it was once the holiday residence of empress Elisabeth of Austria. All of exhibitions are nicely connected, they are not big to make you feel out of proportion. We spent half day here, and had a decent lunch.

It was originally located outside the walls, with an adjoining hospital and was founded by Mainardo II in 1271. In 1419 it was damaged by a flood, but rebuilt by Archduke Sigismus of Habsburg in 1483. It represents one of the most important examples of German Gothic in the area. Almost square in plan, with a ten-sided choir that occupies all three naves. The exterior is decorated with elegant buttresses both on the facade and on the sides. The main entrance portal, groans, represents rich decorations, including in the tympanum, a group depicting the Trinity from 1440. The interior is divided into three naves from nine cylindrical pillars, from which ribs branch off to form a spider web effect in the vaults, on the white ceiling. The baroque organ of the church is also valuable. Rebuilt during the 1400s after being destroyed by a flood of the Passirio river which flows right in front of it. Next to it, on the southern part, was the hospital building which was later demolished in 1938. Seven stained glass windows illuminate it but they are not ancient works, in fact they are the work of local artisans and date back to the early 1900s. They depict the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Inside there are many skillfully sculpted works and many paintings of great value. The stone altar, unlike other churches, is not detached from the assembly but highlighted as the center of the assembly; according to what the new liturgical order establishes but, naturally, wanted centuries before. (Translated by Google) This museum has reopened so many memories for me and I absolutely recommend it. The visit is wonderful: paintings, statues, sculptures and much more. There are lots of explanations in Italian, English and German. The spectacular view of the square from the windows overlooking it is enchanting, as is the city of Merano. The lady at the entrance was really everything to me, she is very professional. A thousand thanks. Thanks also to the Director. La signora all'entrata è stata veramente tutto per me, è molto professionale. Grazie mille. Un grazie anche al Direttore.

Italian restaurant
Gaststätte Henkerhaus is an Italian restaurant in Merano that offers classic Italian cuisine and seafood in a vibrant atmosphere. The restaurant is located in a historic setting and features a charming front courtyard and cozy stone-walled interior. The background music creates a cool jazz and blues ambiance. The food is authentic, well-prepared, and exceeds expectations considering the distance from the coast. However, the quality of ingredients like olive oil and bread could be improved.
nice food, very fresh and authentic - you will not be disapointed. they have quite some tables on the square next to the curch and its nice to sit outside. but also insude its cosy. would go again.

Wish I had the caponata we've ordered 😂 and all in all, this place is actually better than expected considering we are long way from the seafood, but still feels like ingredients are at best - fine. Olive oil and bread in particular should be much better in such place. But, the wine choices were decent and smart. Nothing extravagant but worked very well. There was way too much calamary in fried fish plate to my taste, but to be honest, it was fried perfectly

Really great food with a touch of Sicily! Can totally recommend the salmon pasta with pistachio cream, still dreaming about it😊 We went for starters and some pasta, accompanied with red wine which was all tasty. Nice service and cozy atmosphere.
Jennifer L — Google review
Mediocre i would describe food and service (but as the owner says, he and his team just adapt - meaning the customer is mediocre therefore... just the prices stay the same). The pasta with truffle were presented without much love, kind of thrown on one side of the plate with nothing on the other half, tasted a bit flat and without much seasoning. Same for the sicilian swordfish and there were more potatoes on that plate than fish. I got nothing against higher prices but then the food should be special and consistently good.

Highly recommend this spot! Beautiful location - if you sit outside you are in a historic square overlooking the church. Food was fresh and delicious - we had the grilled fish platter and spaghetti with seafood. Staff is friendly and attentive.

Little place in Merano's old town, tucked away, very cozy, great atmosphere and awsome food, I highly recommend it! I had the zucchini parmesan, then spaghetti vongole, OMG so delicious!! with lots of sauce and mussels, past al dente it was very tasty, my husband had the spaghetti al olio, garlic and shrimp which was delicious too.
Pascale E — Google review
Fantastic quality....extremely fresh tuna, very flavorful caponata, amazingly tasty octopus....and extremely reasonable prices for the quality of food. Very cosy atmosphere and friendly servers also. Highly recommend!!!

This place was a lovely little find. It is a bit off the beaten path and has limited seating both inside and outside. Specializes in Italian seafood dishes. The menu is small, but the dishes we are were fantastic. We had spaghetti vongele and spaghetti with shrimp and oil. The zucchini appetizer was excellent. Recommend this place if you are looking to satisfy a seafood itch.

Super delicious and super good. The Ramen soup - was so good that every sip you taste how much efforts the chef has put in. The pasta with truffles- omg! So simple but so yummy. The antipasto - sashimi di salmone. It was so creative to mix with mango and avocado. Yummy yummy. This is definitely a restaurant highly recommend and we want to keep coming back here. The service was perfect too. Thank you all for the wonderful dinner. 👍

Restaurant
Vinothek Relax Pizzeria is a charming spot with an extensive selection of delicious pizzas and wines. The friendly English-speaking staff are always ready to assist in choosing from their wide array of tasty pizzas. Additionally, the pizzeria offers an impressive variety of locally produced wines that patrons can sample or purchase to enjoy at home. Guests have praised the owner for his amiable and humorous nature, as well as the fresh salads and fantastic thin-crust pizzas.
This place is premium. With the jazz wibe, the proffesional waiters and the inside, this place got a place in most people hearts. All dou it is a wine hole, you have 2 choices. 1 is to have a simple dinner with a beer and chose one of the huge scale of pizzas. 2 is to dive in to the world of vines and pick a fine pasta or meat along with it. In the end, you can enjoy some fine desserts with the desired alcohol.

We had a wonderful evening at Relax Pizza. The food was excellent and of high quality. Both pasta and pizza are among the best we have ever eaten. Equally special and outstanding was the very friendly and attentive service. Thank you! We'd love to come back soon.

Loved the owner - a very friendly, polite and funny guy. The salads were very fresh and the pizzas were fantastic - thin-crusty with few ingredients but extremely tasty . We had a bottle of probably the best Lagrein wine we've tasted recommended by the owner. The service was great.
