My husband and I recently stayed at Hotel Flandrischer Hof in Cologne, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome with their warm hospitality and professionalism.
One of the highlights was the delicious breakfast buffet—a great variety of fresh pastries, cheeses, cold cuts, and hot dishes, all served in a cozy atmosphere. The hotel also has a lovely bar where we enjoyed an evening drink before heading out.
Overall, Hotel Flandrischer Hof exceeded our expectations in every way. If you’re looking for a stylish, comfortable, and well-located hotel in Cologne, this is the perfect choice. We will definitely be returning on our next visit!
Highly recommended!
Prime Location, but the Bed... Not So Much!
I recently stayed at this hotel during my visit to Cologne, and while the location was unbeatable, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag.
Let's start with the positives—the location is truly one of the best in the city. Just steps away from major attractions and easy access to public transport, it made exploring Cologne a breeze. Whether you’re heading to the cathedral, nearby cafes, or shopping streets, you couldn’t ask for a better base. For that alone, I would give the hotel 5 stars without hesitation.
Now for the downside: the bed was unfortunately a big letdown. Despite the room being clean and well-maintained, the bed was so uncomfortable that it really affected my sleep. After a long day of sightseeing, I was hoping for a cozy place to rest, but I found myself tossing and turning all night. This was a major drawback for me, especially since a good night's sleep is a top priority when I choose a hotel. 1 star for the bed, and it’s the reason why I sadly won’t be staying here again.
The view from my room also left something to be desired. It wasn't the worst, but nothing particularly memorable either.
In conclusion, this hotel excels in location and cleanliness, but the bed quality needs serious improvement. I truly wanted to love this place and even considered giving it another try, but unfortunately, the poor bed experience has taken it off my list for future visits to Cologne. However, if location is your top priority, this could still be a solid option for you.
I think your experiences will vary depending on the room you’re assigned. Based on other people’s pictures, I realize some guests are assigned modern, renovated rooms, while others (like me) are assigned old, rundown, spartan rooms.
I was particularly surprised by:
- the many steps in between the room, the elevator, and the reception. Definitely an accessibility issue.
- the NOISE coming from the streets. Crazy football fans, couples arguing at 5 am, motorcycles, you name it. Even if you knew that the hotel was in the Belgian Quarter, this was overwhelming.
- lack of AC and a mini fridge. If I tried to close the window to block off the obnoxious noises, the room would get very hot and stuffy very quickly.
-a tiny flimsy mattress with no back support…for a 100 euro per night room.
I do think that the room was very clean and the reception desk was kind. But at this price point, I expected a lot more.
