Beer hall

Pub
Peters Brauhaus is a historic brewery and restaurant located in Cologne, known for its cozy and intimate atmosphere. Dating back to 1544, it is the oldest brewery in the city and offers a wide selection of Cologne specialties to accompany its signature Kolsch beer. The establishment features a stained-glass ceiling, oak paneling, and communal feasting tables for an authentic beer hall experience.
Read about the restaurant and was recommended. Really appreciate the fast serving as we had only one hour to catch the train. Pork knuckles were so good and tasty, although the skin is not as crispy but we still love it!
Den D — Google review
Wonderful restaurant. The waiters are older gentlemen who are kind and good with the speed of service. The food was very good and delicious. The pork knuckle with fried bacon potatoes was exquisite, a must try. It was much bigger than I expected but worth the money and fantastic. Mind that after 5:30PM, it gets crowded with long queues outside, as this is a super popular place. Atmosphere is mid but the tasty food and staff make up for it. Enjoy.

Peters Brauhaus – A True Taste of Cologne’s Tradition If you’re looking for an authentic German dining experience in Cologne, Peters Brauhaus is an absolute must-visit. The moment you walk in, you can feel the soul of the place — it’s clearly a historic and beloved restaurant, full of character, warmth, and tradition. I was genuinely blown away by the quality of the food. Everything tasted like it came straight from a local family kitchen, made with care and history behind every bite. I had the mashed potatoes with turkey, sauerkraut, roasted vegetables, and crispy fried potatoes — every single item was perfectly seasoned, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. You can tell that this place takes pride in every dish they serve. The restaurant was bustling with guests, and what stood out was that it wasn’t just tourists — it was full of local people who clearly love and respect this place. That alone says a lot. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, Peters Brauhaus captures the true spirit of Cologne’s culinary culture. Amazing atmosphere, excellent service, and food you’ll be dreaming about long after you’ve left.

A restaurant in the center of Cologne near the Dom. I had the authentic "Rheinischer Sauerbraten," which was a delight: the marinated meat saturated my taste buds, not at all acidic. The cabbage had an overwhelming and tasty flavor. All washed down with rivers of Kölsch beer. The elderly waiter, who speaks very good English (and Italian), was extremely kind and had amusing jokes. You absolutely should pay a visit here, it's inevitable.
The F — Google review
We had a great evening. The kölsch was quite good but sadly they don't brew it themselves (apparently they used to make beer back in the days but not anymore). Apple strudel was quite good. Highly recommend making a reservation beforehand.
Aylin F — Google review
Bratwurst: a bit dry and firm (overcooked?) but nice enough Potato salad: very nice Kolsch beer: nice Strudel: a bit dry and bland but ok Service: very good Atmosphere: lovely Price: fair Friday evening, busy, but all staff seemed helpful and in a good mood. Likewise, the diners - everyone pleased with their meals. This was brauhaus number three, for me, and it compared favourably. Recommend.
K N — Google review
its actually impressively good! i really liked the food and the atmosphere is quite cool. all deserts are literally magnificent and the main dishes that my family ordered were really good:) the sausages are also very good!! really recommend.
Yeojinni — Google review
Welcoming atmosphere with a less than 10min wait around 1930 on a Monday evening. Service was ok but had an odd interaction with one waiter who seemed to refuse to get me a custard with my apple strudel even though I ordered it along with the ice cream and whipped cream, thought he was joking at first but it did not come. After 10mins managed to get the attention of our main waiter who realised it was missing and got it right away. But not a reason to not give 5 stars as food was very nice with generous portions. Had the halve Hahn for starters, beef with raisin sauce and dumplings and turkey for mains, apple strudel and windbeute for dessert. Very nice decor. Definitely recommend.

Nestled in the heart of Cologne, Gaffel am Dom - Brauhaus is a charming traditional eatery that captures the essence of German hospitality. With its inviting garden terrace and vibrant atmosphere often enhanced by live music, this establishment is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in regional delicacies.
The minute we arrived at Cologne station at about10.30am we were looking for food. We decided to get some light bites since it is a bit too early for lunch in this restaurant right opposite the station and ordered some small bites and appertizers as well as drinks. Is our first German food experience and we like it. I believe the place is popular for lunch as it gets more crowded later on.
Den D — Google review
Very solid experience at this Brauhaus. I went twice on my trip and the food was great both times. A delicious (and huge) grilled pork knuckle; very flavorful and melt-in-your mouth Himmel und Ääd (blood sausage with buttery mash and chunky apple sauce). Taking a point off for the service, which was mixed. When I went in the evening, the server was quite amiable and spoke some English and tried to be helpful. When I went at lunchtime the server was curt, didn’t speak much at all, and had an attitude like he’d rather be doing anything than serving you (and this at 11:30am around opening!) I think with a bit of server training and accountability, this restaurant could be one of the best in the Dom area.
R — Google review
Strategic place to have a restaurant. Right in front of the cathedral. Is a casual vibe, and I didn’t order something big. But the meatball and the pretzel were good. The service was great. The young lady with the ponytails was extremely nice and helped me choose something to eat.
Heidy T — Google review
I had a great experience at Gaffel am Dom. They serve authentic local beer that keeps coming, paired with tasty German dishes that fit the vibe perfectly. The place has a fantastic traditional atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer and enjoy the moment. I really loved the energy and the overall experience here.
Anjula W — Google review
Busy and vibrant restaurants with a very convenient location to the Cologne Cathedral. Food was good. Seemed a bit touristy (we were tourists and eating there so not in a bad way.) so if you’re looking for a more local vibe check elsewhere.
Samantha R — Google review
Absolutely loved it here. We sat outside overlooked by the cathedral soaking up the sun but there was also plenty of seating indoors if you preferred that. The staff here were great and very quick to keep your glass topped up which we liked probably a bit too much but the beer was incredible. Although we didn’t have food, plenty round us did and it looked decent. We had several visits here so definitely one of the better bars in the city centre!!
Andy D — Google review
The best food experience we had in Cologne thanks to delicious food, excellent service and great view over Cologne’s largest ( literally) attraction: Cologne cathedral. We wanted to try local dishes and here was almost everything to be found except for Rheinischen Sauerbraten which we found at another restaurant with less good service. Let’s talk about Gaffel am Dom service. We had this charming waiter who was fast, efficient, firm with do and don’ts - always with a smile and humorous attitude. We like the straight forward attitude that is efficient and no fuss. Especially when packaged with a smile and a gentle hand such as this guy. The routine of refilling Kölsch went smoothly and we just love how refreshing and easily the beer slips down the throat. Served in small glasses it never had a chance of getting lukewarm.

Brauerei zur Malzmühle is a historic family brewery that has been in operation for 150 years. It offers modern rooms, casual dining, and a traditional beer hall. The brewery is renowned for its signature Mühlen Kölsch beer, brewed using traditional methods since 1858. Located in the heart of the Old Town, this establishment has welcomed notable guests such as former President Bill Clinton and German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer.
I had an amazing experience at Brauerei zur Malzmühle! This historic brewery offers an authentic Cologne atmosphere with a cozy and lively setting. The service was friendly and efficient, even though the place was quite busy. The Kölsch beer here is one of the best I’ve had—fresh, crisp, and served the traditional way. The food was fantastic, with hearty portions of classic German dishes. The location is great, just a short walk from the city center, making it perfect for tourists and locals alike. If you’re looking for an authentic Cologne brewery experience with great beer and food, Malzmühle is the place to go!
M S — Google review
Enjoyed a late lunch and kolsch beer at this 170 year old brewery. It was busy but seated immediately. The kolsch flows as it should in Cologne. The large currywurst was just that large. Excellent flavor sausage with sauce and thick fries. The gnocchi was in a rich tomato sauce with perfect seasoning and spicy. It was a wonderful stop.
Donna T — Google review
My 5th brauhaus experience and the best. However, that might just be because it was a Saturday night and even some locals said that the live music was an unexpected bonus. SUPER busy, but they kept me watered while I waited and I ended up sharing a table with a lovely couple. As per every brauhaus, the food is tasty, comes quickly, and is a good portion. Also, reasonable value for money. Table service is a lovely thing, and was both efficient and friendly. Highly recommended!

**Restaurant Review: Mühlen Kölsch** Tucked away in an unassuming, weathered building, Mühlen Kölsch has been serving authentic German cuisine since 1858. The entrance is a unique experience—guests pass through antique wooden revolving doors covered by thick curtains, briefly plunging them into darkness before stepping directly into the bustling dining area. The atmosphere is rustic and historic, with aged wooden tables and walls adorned with nostalgic photographs of Germany’s past. Seating is informal, with the nearest server guiding guests to an open spot. The service is efficient and quintessentially German—beers arrive almost immediately, so if you prefer otherwise, be sure to decline upfront. Refills come regularly, maintaining the lively, traditional beer hall feel. The food is nothing short of excellent. A crisp side salad with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots, dressed in a tangy, French-inspired dressing, was a refreshing start. The potato soup, rich and velvety, paired perfectly with crusty bread, ideal for dipping. For the main courses, the rump steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, topped with a flavorful herbed butter, and accompanied by crispy potatoes and a small side salad. The roast pork cutlet was a standout—tender and smothered in a thick, savory gravy reminiscent of a comforting Thanksgiving meal. Mühlen Kölsch delivers on its promise of authentic German cuisine with hearty portions, traditional flavors, and an old-world ambiance. For those seeking an immersive German dining experience with excellent service and history-rich surroundings, this spot is a must-visit.

Very local restaurant, friendly staff and good service. Food was very delicious, the crispy pork knuckle was to the point. The chicken salad was also tasty. Kölsches wasser with different flavour was also great. Good price quality food👍 Highly recommended!
Lin L — Google review
Really nice restaurant and (bier) brewery near Köln city centre; not too expensive when compared to other similar restaurants, the plates are big and served fast. The service is nice to costumers, but the beer choices are not as many as expected. Overall, I would recommend
Alessandro G — Google review
Great traditional restaurant. Lots of variety of food and alcohol. Staff is very friendly. Not expensive.
Luciano Z — Google review
Ordered shredded pork knuckle for lunch off regular menu. Pork was dry with not much flavor, red cabbage had way too much nutmeg and best tasting was brat kartofel for a price of 20 euros. We ordered 2 salad with chicken nuggets but gave us fish nuggets instead which is not even on the menu. They fixed but half our group was finished while the other 2 ate. It was ok, but would not go back

Beer hall
German restaurant
Brauhaus FRÜH am Dom is a traditional German beer hall located just a short walk from the iconic Cologne Cathedral. Established in the early 1900s, this old-world restaurant offers homestyle dishes such as sausage, potatoes, and schnitzel. It's known for serving fresh Kolsch beer from wooden barrels and boasts a cozy beer garden at the rear of the venue.
We experienced wonderful flavors in a beautiful historical building. The waiter was very polite and helpful. The meat was prepared perfectly. We enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere was nice. I will definitely come back on my next visit to Cologne.
Bekir K — Google review
The beer, atmosphere, and service were excellent. The schnitzel was also delicious, but the lack of sauce made it feel a bit dry. Beer is served in a standard 20cl glass, but if you finish it, they automatically bring you a new one. If you don't want one, just let them know.
HY K — Google review
A true taste of German gastronomy. The meal was hearty and filling — tender meat, potatoes, dumplings, apple sauce, and rich thick gravy. The highlight was the local beer on tap, smooth with a slight sweetness, perfectly matching the food. The ambiance felt like an old German tavern, warm and lively with many patrons enjoying their time. A wonderful dining experience.
Evita H — Google review
The staffs were very friendly and polite. The Kölsch were fresh and light. The pork knuckle was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The portion was huge, as expected, so we also ordered a salad to pair with the pork knuckle and it makes for a more balanced meal! All in all a good experience ☺️
Chris — Google review
The place is awesome, the service staff is very friendly and heart welcoming, but the food wasn’t that good, the pork knuckle has strong pork taste like it was old, so thats why we dont like it. The other dish was kind of ok. The thing that we were sharing table with two strangers was kind of weird for us and that ruined the idea of little time for ourselves
Никола Д — Google review
Do not eat here, bad food, bad service. First off we were greeted by the crankiest waiter, kids were screaming and running around the terrace and knocking into chairs while doing it for at least 10 minutes until they left. We then ordered the potatosoup, the schweinschnitzel and the ofenfrischer schweinebraten. The schnitzel should not have been called a schnitzel - this was the fattest clump of meat ever, not thin at all and very greasy, very small for what a schnitzel should be in Germany (yesterday we ate somewhere where it was at least twice as big, whilst being cheaper). The bread served with the potatosoup was burnt and the ofenfrischer schweinebraten was too dry to chew, with the sauce being gloopy and relatively cold. (We did not have to pay for this after discussing it with the manager, since we did not even eat more than 3 bites.) Drinks were ok, fries were fine, soup was fine... just not outstanding in the slightest. Not worth the effort not the price.
Elena O — Google review
Food was a bit salty, but generally is good. Multi level restaurant, even some at underground. If you are first time here, you probably dont know where to go and what to do. So crowded with people walking here and there, and you really have to hunt for a table even for 2, after trying and waiting for more than 20minutes, finally we have a seat. Then another waiting for staff to serve you. Which multiple call for waiter, but all keep telling you wait a minutes, later my colleague will come to you, or said this table is not under me, shall be handle by someone else Then finally a young guy name Toberio holzer, He is empathy and asking if there is anyone serve us yet and offer his help to take order and taking care our dining. The stars I gave increase immediately with this person serving me. To the owner, please take good promotion of this staff. He is great ! You need more people like this to work for you. Otherwise, I will not be back again.
Robert L — Google review
So much fun dining here. Food is good (typical German food) and the beer is amazing and so fresh ... The staff here is one of the service crew I have experienced in Europe. You will never run out of beer to drink.

Nestled in the heart of Cologne, Gilden im Zims “Heimat kölscher Helden” is a contemporary brewpub that beautifully marries history with modern dining. Located near the bustling Euro 2024 Fan Zone on Heumarkt, this establishment serves up local delights like crispy pork knuckles paired with refreshing kölsch beer. The venue itself boasts a rich heritage, having been established in 1920 by Johann Zims and later rebuilt after World War II.
Fresh off the train and bowled over by the main cathedral, which God managed to strategically place just outside the Hauptbahnhof, I unglazed my eyes long enough to ask two workmen where to eat. You know, the guys in the blue and fluorescent yellow jumpsuits, who could be anything from plumbers to electrical workers, but surely have been eating in Cologne since they were weaned. I was sent to Gilden im Zims, and then I asked about a typical lunchtime meal. Only the younger fellow was speaking English, but the older gentleman nodded in agreement when I was suggested bratwurst with beer sauce, and here it is. This is the 1/4 kg version, for only four euros more you can have double the bratwurst. Hard to imagine. Yes, the bratwurst is marvelous. But the beer sauce is sublime. And the potatoes… the potatoes are sautéed in some kind of animal fat with little bits of pork mixed in, maybe some onions… they are a meal in themselves. To redeem myself, I returned the next day and had the vegan lentil stew, also pictured here :-) I’ve added a small section of the menu which features vegetarian and vegan options, there are more available.

Not the best, not the worst We had dinner here tonight. The local dishes on the menu looked appealing, and at first we were helped very kindly by the staff. Despite the busy evening, our food arrived fairly quickly. The flavor of my dish was decent, but the meat was quite dry and tough. My mother’s schnitzel also didn’t taste fresh. When we mentioned this, the staff handled it well and even offered us a complimentary dessert to share. However, when it came time to pay, we decided not to leave a tip because the food simply wasn’t good. The waiter reacted rather annoyed and somewhat offended, which didn’t feel appropriate. Perhaps we were just unlucky with our meals, as other dishes we saw looked fine. Still, the waiter’s behavior regarding the tip left a negative impression.

Great service, amazing food, atmosphere really warm. We've had a lovely lunch here and should we end up in Köln again I will be absolutely coming back. Food was authentic, short wait, restaurant is really clean, all the staff we have spoken to have been delightful. Couldn't have had a better experience. Thank you

Wonderful service and amazing food! My Schnitzel was so large, I think it was bigger than my entire head! But it was absolutely delicious even though I could not possibly finish it. Our server was Christian and he was very funny and very excellent service! The beer glasses were refilled so quickly! As a Canadian, I approve of this method! Kölle Alaaf!!!

The pork knuckle in Cologne is truly exceptional, and the beer is also quite enjoyable. Additionally, the waiter provides excellent service and is proficient in English.
Honggo N — Google review
It has, I realise, been something of a week of cliché for anyone who’s been masochistic enough to read my recent reviews. A dreary parade of the obvious, the tried and tested, the meat-and-potatoes (and sauerkraut) of travel food writing. And I’m not about to let you off the hook just yet, because this sorry trajectory continued, unrepentant, with a visit to Cologne. Germany. Now, I adore the Germans. They’re essentially the British, but with better punctuality, better trains, and worse weather. Like us, they love football, beer, and meat, although they at least have the decency to admit it. On this trip, I managed to tick all three. There was a football stadium (tick), many, many beers (double tick), and enough meat to choke a Bavarian stag party. And the scene for this gastronomic box-ticking? Gilden Im Zims. A grand old beer hall on the main square of Cologne. The sort of place that smacks you round the chops with its authenticity, gives you a bear hug of Gemütlichkeit, and plonks a litre of something cold, amber, and foaming in front of you before you’ve even taken off your bobble hat. Though, being Cologne, these weren’t litres but the local Kölsch, which arrives in slim, delicate 0.2L glasses — a little frilly, yes, but the genius of it is they just keep bloody coming. Like a German efficiency algorithm had been let loose on the beer taps. Before you even notice the glass is empty, another appears in its place. It’s like beer Tetris. And what did I eat? Well, if you think I went to a traditional Cologne beer house and didn’t order the Schweinshaxe (that’s pork knuckle to the English), you’ve clearly mistaken me for someone who owns a vegan cookbook. It arrived like Excalibur — a monstrous hunk of pig with a knife jammed through the top, daring you to pull it out and declare yourself King of the Pork People. And the thing was magnificent. The crackling shattered like sugar glass, the meat inside soft, fatty, and gloriously porcine, all slicked in a deep, savoury gravy that made me want to take off my shirt and rub it all over myself. Not that anyone would have blinked in a place like this. Inside, it straddles the line between the modern and the medieval with unnerving precision — all dark woods, gleaming brass, and the gentle hum of people slowly but inevitably slipping into a beer coma. Service? Spot on. Friendly without the forced jollity you get in some places, fast without being aggressive. They know their beer, they know their pig, they know their people. So if you find yourself in Cologne, and you want football, beer, meat, and an evening where you won’t have to make a single decision (apart from whether to undo your belt before or after dessert), Gilden Im Zims is your spot.

Braustelle, located in Ehrenfeld, is a small corner pub and brewery that has been serving as an honest neighborhood brewery since 2001. The brewery offers a variety of specialty beers such as Helios Kolsch, named after a nearby electrical engineering company from the 19th century. In addition to their own brews, Braustelle also features selections from other microbreweries on their extensive beer menu.
The staff was so friendly and the food was delicious! The cider and beers were AMAZING!!

Round about 11 years ago I visited Braustelle for the first time. Since then, whenever I am in Cologne, I’ll go here for an evening full of great food and delicious beers. Various styles, including sours, stouts and barley wines manufactured in cologne’s smallest professional brewery. Recommend.

Everything in this place is good, but the service deserves a special star, it's excellent! I had never experienced this kind of service in Germany before where we never had empty glasses while staff being extremely nice, polite and proactive. I even asked if they had special training and they said no so I guess they are treated very nicely and like to work there. Became my favorite bar in Cologne instantly won I and my friends as customers, we'll be back! The food is really good too!!

Beers are fantastic (one of your only shots at a local craft brew in the city) and the food is great, all the German stodginess you want but usually with a really stunning green salad on the side. Often rather busy and quite loud. Usually very friendly staff.

Brauhaus Sünner im Walfisch is a charming beer hall housed in a historic 17th-century building, which was once the location of the medieval brewery 'Heinrich zur Krae.' The brewery offers its own delicious Kölsch beer and serves up a menu featuring traditional German dishes such as Himmel & Aad, broad beans with bacon and fried potatoes, and Rhenish sauerbraten.
The beer is tasting very light and fresh! I like it a lot. And ordered pork knuckle as every time visiting Germany. This size is ok for me, the sauerkraut is a bit different than my memory, but good anyway, so does the mash potatoes!

Very good beerhouse. I did not try the beer as they are not gluten-free. My colleagues liked the beer. The dinner came fast (relatively) despite the beerhouse was full. The food was nicely served. I went for the safe gluten-free version: potatoe, sauerkraut and pork chop. The others ordered hamburgers and they looked amazing. They reay enjoyed it.

Two visits: first was excellent, second was not. First: efficient and pleasant service and, probably, the best bratwurst I've ever had. Second: chicken schnitzel was ok, but the service was not. Efficient? Yes. Pleasant? No. It seems that using your beermat to correct the wobble of your table, when that beermat has your beer tally on it, is a capital offence. For context, it was not busy, the waitress was the only person serving my area and I'd had two 200ml beers. Despite this, I received an overlong lecture on how bad it was to destroy the tally beermat. A short clarification of local custom would have been fine, but a long/repetitive lecture was tedious, annoying, and she made it clear that, in her opinion, it was the action of a dishonest person. She 'forgave' me, on this occasion, but I'm sure she'd call the police the next time I attempted to steal more €2 beers (this is how it felt). Youth lacks experience and so can be over zealous and over simplify - that's forgivable, but there's a limit and this waitress passed it! In summary: great bratwurst, but not worth being lectured by a child and being accused of the theft of cheap beer.

Very atmospheric dining experience in an old brewery - they've done a great job of maintaining the old world charm of the place. Service was pretty quick and the food was really good. It's really crowded, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The air-conditioning is a blessing on hot summer days 😁

Authentic brauhaus with great service and atmosphere. Food was good and lava cake dessert was delicious. Their kölsch was very tasty and smooth. Place was almost full and we were lucky to get seated without reservation.

Traditional brauhaus with friendly & welcoming staff. Reservations highly recommended! The menu was traditional, reasonably priced and executed perfectly. In true Köln fashion, the delicious beer is never-ending until you coaster the top. The Christmas goose breast was lovely, the schweinehaxe was fantastic & a well done schnitzel . The congenial atmosphere bursts to life as diner’s enjoy their experience. It’s a place to be & enjoy!

I had high hopes, like the Sinatra song from the Oscar nominated film "A hole in the head, circa 1959." No rubber tree plants to push over. Asked for a second Kölsch only to be told that a refill is automatic. After two I sat and waited a bit too long. Paulicarus and Boothroyd were not at all happy waiting for the food but we think the kitchen was struggling. Our food order seemed slow. Good currywurst and good Flamkuchen. A second white wine never arrived. A shame as it was a good wine but we left after a long wait for the bill. Gave a 2€ tip, he took 5!!!

Lovely place a little out of the center of town but friendly and as with all Kölsch Brauhaus the beer just kept coming.

Not bad at all, with a modern twist. Really liked their wheat beer, but it only comes in larger glass 0.33ml, when asked for a smaller 0.20ml, waiter said that's impossible, so a bit disappointed. Overall not bad place when its quiet. As this place is in the students area and gets really busy.

I have no idea what has happened but it is not the same Hellers as it was before. Now there are barely two beers from the tap, when there was plenty in the past, including dark beers. A limited menu would not be a problem, but the quality also dropped substantially. The staff is nice though and the place still looks nice.

I usually pride myself on my ability to eat large portions of food, but I'm deadly serious when I say that this restaurant put my stomach to the test. The portions were absolutely massive! It's no surprise they charge €17.50 for Pork Knuckle, Fried Potatoes and Sauerkraut. The pork knuckle was very juicy and had an abundance of tasty crackling. However, there was also surprisingly so much fat in it. I thought the Sauerkraut was tasty but the fried potatoes were ridiculously over salted, to the point where I couldn't finish them. The atmosphere was great- people were laughing and drinking all evening. The service was slow at times but usually okay; the server made up for it by being absolutely lovely and eccentric. Overall the restaurant is well decorated and nice, the food is pretty good and the waiters are enthusiastic and clearly enjoy their jobs.

This was an incredibly disappointing experience. My friends and I chose to come here for an easy dinner because the pictures online looked so cute. Upon arriving we were sat quickly and we all enjoyed the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant but it took a turn quick when we realized our waiter was not as friendly as he seemed. He recommended we get 11 beers for 8 people. 3 of which did not want to drink. We let him know we only wanted 5 and he brought out 11 anyway. When our food came out it was all low quality and not good. The grand total came out to €190 for everyone. When I went to pay the waiter told me I needed to tip. After I said “no” 3 times I gave in and tipped him €10 bringing the total up to €200. Overall we paid €200 for disgusting food and beer we didn’t want.

Excellent beer with good service in very traditional surroundings. Seemed a more 'authentic' brew house experience compared to some of the more central tap rooms. Beer is tapped from very old looking barrels in a way that I assume they've been doing for well over 100 years. Didn't eat there but food looked decent enough.

I arrived at this restaurant at 7 P. M. on a saturday and it was already full of people. As soon as I looked the waiter in the eyes to ask him how long would it take to get a table he handed me a beer without even asking me if I wanted it :) In the end I had to wait an hour and half to get a table and had to share it with two strangers. I had the pork chop, it was really big. Beers kept flowing in all night long, the waiter marked them on coaster. I didn't see any menù so in the end the check was a surprise and they don't even accept cards for payment. To make a long story short, it was a really strange and unique experience to eat in this restaurant :)

Truly a hidden gem! We went underground and the atmosphere there was lovely. Recommend trying kölsch with beef and potatoes, it’s really good. The single problem was that they accept only cash
Oceandev — Google review
My two local friends suggested that we end our recent pub crawl at this interesting location. It doesn't look much from the outside, but inside it was teeming with drinkers enjoying the beer, food and overall atmosphere. I would classify this as a really authentic, rough and ready Kölsch beer house. We descended into the bowels of this establishment where there were still a few tables free. Our larger than life Köbe was quick to serve us with what seemed like the obligatory Kölsch beer. No problem. I then went on to order their special pork chop which came with chips and fried onions. It was delicious. Eating and drinking in this cellar area was great except for one silly group of youngsters who insisted on shouting their heads off and playing stupid games. The oral confrontation that ensued lead to them leaving. It's rare that I complain but they were being really unreasonable. After they left we were able to conclude our evening in peace. All good.
Ian K — Google review
It thrives on the aura of a glorious past under Lommi, a legendary innkeeper, and his beer-tapping wife, Annemie: despite the crowds, there was always room for everyone – and if so, it was on empty beer crates with a phone book on them! Today, however, it's simply lousy: unfriendly waiters, excessive arrogance in the condescending, gracious granting of free seats – you have to "make an appointment" at the bar, even though no one is waiting and there are seats available. Apparently, they don't need hospitality. It's best to leave after such poor treatment – a real shame!
Frank S — Google review
This place was one of the highlights of my trip to Koln. Unfortunately I discovered it the day before I left. The service was above and beyond, within a minute of entering we were in tears from laughter and still to this day we tell the stories of this pub. The beer was amazing as well as the food. I wish I could find a place like this close to home. I will definitely return when I'm in the area. Thank you for the memories
Tony — Google review
I visited Lommerzheim for the first time. Personally, I’m a big fan of Kölsch, German beers, and Rhineland cuisine but I haven’t experienced such disrespect in a long time. First of all, the staff is extremely inattentive. The place opens at 16:30, and there’s a line at the door. You’re seated according to the queue, but as you enter, no one greets you and none of the servers offer help. It’s a chaotic free-for-all whoever pushes hardest gets a seat. The staff only focuses on beer and service; order and hospitality seem to be irrelevant. We managed to get in without waiting too long, but once inside, no one welcomed us or showed us where to go. It was every person for themselves. While searching for a seat, I encountered a waiter carrying a keg. Naturally, I was about to give way, but instead he rudely shoved me aside with his hand and continued walking. I was going to let him pass, but he didn’t even give me the chance. The crowd inside is incredibly rude. No one makes room, and going to the restroom feels like a crisis. We barely found a table, and I noticed people who couldn’t find seats just standing awkwardly around others’ tables. After observing such poor service and behavior and even getting shoulder-checked by a few German patrons I had no choice but to leave without sitting down. I’ve never seen so many rude people in one place. The beer is excellent we managed to grab one while standing and I’m sure the food is great too. But I wouldn’t recommend visiting a place with such hostility and lack of restaurant culture. Instead, head toward Heumarkt and find a spot there. Let our rude, unhelpful, and strictly non-English-speaking German friends enjoy Lommerzheim on their own.
Ali T — Google review
Quite an experience! Once you sit down, the waiter brings you a glass of cold beer without placing an order. Once you’ve almost finished your first glass, the second is placed on your table. Until you say no or place the paper coaster to cover your glass. The beer is typical Kölsch, which is very refreshing, light, with a subtle sweetness. The food is tasty too. Not too much choices. But the pork knuckle I ordered was crispy outside, tender and juicy inside. Very flavorful and large portion. The price is reasonable. Will definitely come back.

I really wanted to love this place! The concept of putting a more modern twist on brewery/pub style food is so attractive. Unfortunately, the flavor in just about everything didn’t quite hit the mark. Sweet notes in everything. One part of the fried chicken was really delicious, the other part was completely dry - as if the chef didn’t realize that dark and white meat require different cooking times. The service was pretty bad, too.

The food wasn’t to write home about, German with a modern twist I would call it. However, I found that the traditional dishes where not memorable. I do recommend the potato gratin, which was delicious how ever small. The beer of the house wasn’t my taste. Very friendly staff however not a lot of interaction but then again it was of course a big place. To conclude, more of a touristic place then a place I would go to

The hype is bigger than the food they serve. The atmosphere is great and I really like the interior design. Service was really nice and welcoming. It’s a great place to be at. The vegetarian options however didn’t meet up to my expectation. It’s supposed to be a superior or classier Brauhaus. I decided to go for the vegetarian options, that being a roasted cauliflower. It was so bland and dry. Luckily my friend ordered a beer steak and I was allowed to dip into her sauce. The beetroot salad was very colorful and fresh and therefore earns back a star. Overall I’d go again but order something else.

A very cozy Brauhaus with a nice ambience. The owners have given a gentle twist to the classic Brauhaus concept, which is felt both in the interior and in the served dishes. The original German cuisine is served in a more modern way, which makes it very interesting and rather catchy. The staff is friendly and the place itself was not too loud on a Monday evening. I would recommend especially their own self-brewed beer.

Lively Local Spot with Great Food and Beer We found this place through a travel book we picked up in the U.S., and it turned out to be a fantastic recommendation. It has a fun, local beer hall vibe with communal seating, which made for a lively and welcoming atmosphere. The beer flows freely here—just place your coaster on top of your glass when you’re done, otherwise it keeps coming! The staff was friendly, and the crowd seemed to be in great spirits. The menu had plenty of hearty options. We tried the pork schnitzel with Puszta sauce and the schnitzel with French-style Béarnaise sauce—both were absolutely delicious. Meals came with a flavorful brothy soup to kick things off (and maybe make you crave more beer) and fresh, tasty salads. Prices were very reasonable, and the whole experience felt authentically local. It’s just about a 10-minute walk from the cathedral—definitely worth the visit, and we’d happily come back!

Loved this restaurant. Generally locals only eating here so definitely not touristy. The food was fantastic, great tasting German food. The environment had the traditional sand on the floor, wooden tables and served the traditional beer for Cologne (Kolsch). Staff were fab and if you're a dog owner, this is your restaurant.

I was told by a friend that this is the best kolsch in Köln and she was right! Very friendly service and a somewhat lighter atmosphere than in many very heavy, darker German beer halls. One waiter even shared a kolsch with me in contrast to many less friendly beer halls where the moment you begin to speak English they roll their eyes. The food was delicious but so heavy I could not finish everything! I thought the sand on the floor was a myth but it is true.

I had a great time at this traditional pub in Cologne. They serve a good Kölsch-style beer, which I really enjoyed. The beer was freshly poured and tasted excellent. The owner, who served me at the bar, is a bit grumpy, but it added a funny touch to the experience—like stepping into a classic, no-nonsense local spot. Despite his gruffness, he was courteous enough. Overall, it’s a cozy place to enjoy a traditional beer and soak in the authentic atmosphere of Cologne’s pub scene. I’d definitely recommend it for those looking for a genuine local experience!

Stumbled upon this place because every bar and restaurant in the city center was a madhouse due to the first day of Karneval on Saturday 11 November 2023. This brewpub was a welcome break from the madness. Busy but not crowded, no line to get in, and families dressed up in costume but not hammered...sign me up! The food menu is a mix of regional specialties and classic traditional German offerings. Likely the cheapest metthappen in town at only €2,20! Their Kölsch is refreshing with the proper malt profile and a crisp finish. Mellow, barny, clean, delicious. Not the best in town but really good and pairs well with their food. Also really well-priced at €1,90 for a 0.2L pour! I even had a shot of their Kammerschreck liquor to finish the visit. A great local brewpub!

Cologne's Premier Hostility Experience: The \textit{Aggressively} Good Bar. If you're tired of limp, cheerful service and wish to spice up your evening with a genuine sense of existential dread, look no further than this magnificent Cologne institution. They’ve perfected the art of serving world-class food and beer while simultaneously making you feel like an unfortunate mistake the universe is trying to correct. Let’s start with the positives, which were truly outstanding: the Kölsch was perfectly chilled, crisp, and seemingly flowed directly from the Rhine, and the Schnitzel was a masterpiece of savory, golden-brown excellence. It was so good, I almost forgot I was eating under the watchful, judging gaze of our designated human sentinel. However, the real star of the show—the reason this bar deserves a six-star rating (if one star represented sheer, unadulterated tension)—was our waiter, Adolf (or at least, that's what I'll call the patron saint of passive-aggression). Adolf didn't just serve us; he conducted a swift, surgical interrogation of our dining choices. His body language suggested that asking for extra mustard was a profound personal insult to his family lineage. When a glass of Kölsch went empty, there was no polite query; the replacement arrived with the speed and finality of a court order, delivered with a forceful thud that confirmed our continued occupation of his valuable table space. My personal favorite moment was when I tried to catch his eye for the bill. It felt less like signaling a waiter and more like attempting to hail a cab during a blizzard. When the bill finally landed, it felt less like a receipt and more like a declaration of war. Verdict: If you are seeking a genuinely fantastic meal and want to practice your ability to remain perfectly still while being treated like you've personally offended the entire German service industry, book a table immediately. It's the only place in Cologne where the food is incredible, the beer is perfect, and you leave feeling thoroughly humbled and utterly convinced you need to apologize for your presence on earth. A truly unique and memorable experience.

Amazing place in Cologne. I had the opportunity to go to this place as it's really close to the hotels in the area. This is a tru gem! Mostly The locals go here to have a meal and some small beers. The vibe is incredible, you can get a sneak peek of how the locals live there. The staff is amazing also. They are polite and their English is perfec too. Also you don't even need to order they are just giving you another load whenever you glass is empty 😀I have had a chance to meet the owner as well. Amazing, lovely lady! Highly recommend the place.

Max Stark, located in the Kunibertsviertel area of Cologne, is a cozy and informal brewpub with a vintage interior that exudes a warm atmosphere. This German restaurant offers traditional fare, beer, and other beverages. Despite being crowded on Friday evenings, it provides an authentic brewery experience with hearty meals and generous portions. The establishment is known for its friendly staff and reasonable prices. Max Stark stands out as a popular dining spot in Cologne for its genuine ambiance and delicious food offerings.
Huge portion of food (and the food was delicious!), excellent and VERY friendly staff, the beer was great as well! The waiter even took the time to explain Köln brewery customs / rules to us, which was very kind. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

Really liked the overall experience! They let us in after 30 mins because it was too full, but totally worth it! This food portions were insanely big so I recommend sharing a plate with someone else if you eat like a normal person, but if you come hungry then for yourself! The schnitzel was absolutely amazing and would go back to eat another one, and might be for myself only. Part of the staff was a bit rude (considering we were tourists and only one in the table spoke German) but the guy who attended us was extremely nice. The beer was cold and delicious. I’d go back to this place 100%

We lucked out finding this spot—just a short 15-minute walk from the cathedral, and it was worth every step. Proper German food, huge menu, the kind where you stop counting after a while. Stuff like pork knuckle with pea purée, rump steak with fried potatoes, Wiener schnitzel, veal roulade, Sauerbraten made with horse meat, pork fillet with mushrooms, Kasseler neck with green beans, goulash with dumplings, and even giant bratwurst. On top of that, the Tuesday potato pancakes baked with cheese were killer. The vibe is classic—dim, buzzing, with waiters keeping the Kölsch flowing until you cover your glass. For visitors, that’s a whole experience on its own. The food? Straight-up tasty. My steak was perfect, and those cheesy potato pancakes were next level. Cozy, loud in a good way, and super friendly staff. Felt like home the minute we sat down.

Found this after googling a German restaurant near me . Was a 5 minute walk. We arrived at 12.30pm and it was packed, they did have a small round table which they offered us as most people had booked. We ordered the Jägerschnitzel each , a glass of wine and a beer. The staff very friendly , food was delicious, the customers were mainly locals which is always a good sign. Would definitely return, but book next time, so we don't miss out.

Great service and atmosphere. I tried the Rheinischer Sauerbraten — it was nicely complemented by the apple compote, though not really to my personal taste. I loved the Himmel un Ääd, which came with a generous serving of mashed apples and potatoes. Reservations are highly recommended.

A great place to try German food for the first time! We tried a variety of dishes, some we loved, others were not quite our taste. The fried pork with mushroom and fries were exceptional. The stewed beef was nice as well. The sausage was good but the horse was not our favorite, but the flavors of the sauce were excellent. The service was friendly and beer was cold.

Good Food but Terrible service ! Tourists ! Alert ! Don't ruin your day We did not have reservations, of course we queued. No problem However, others could come in anytime took the table and sure they did have reservations. Then, we finally get seated after waiting over 45mins. Once we seated, we were told we only have 45mins dinning time.....wowwwww Sure, it is a busy restaurant , but how come others can stay more than 1 hour ? Meanwhile, there are empty tables ? What the rush ? It is definitely a lovely resturant for its neighbourhood, but only not for the tourists. It was a very bad & upsetting experience... I read the reviews and found out other tourists had the same experience It makes me feel little bit better 😝😝 We are not alone😁

This was my first time in Germany. On my way to Köln, I started looking for places to eat some good local food without breaking the bank. Max Stark kept coming up and the great reviews and location settings made me want to try it. Unfortunately, I do not speak german either, just the very basics. When I got there, I luckily found that staff do speak English and are very accomodating. I had to wait 5 minutes to be seated, but they helped me all the way. My 1st real german Jägersnitzel was heavenly good. Just as a heads up, if you are in a large group, book a table online on their website. If you are in Köln, give them a try!

Second time along in this Brauhaus, unfortunately with not so good reviews as two years ago. The staff were friendly and attentive as always. The overall atmosphere was again incredibly pleasant. The food was not quite right this time. I think it arrived at most 5 minutes after ordering it. None of the dishes should have been able to be completed that quickly. My schnitzel was probably the worst part. The meat was not fresh. Definitely not spoiled, but it wasn't quite right either. The sauce tasted bland as well, almost as it was just a concentrate mixed with hot water. The other dish was a bit better as the meat was clearly slow cooked and seasoned well. The sauce there was also not great as it was so filled with raisns that the whole dish tasted more like a dessert. I might have to skip the food next time, but could visit again for the beer and vibes.

5 stars! The food are delicious. I really enjoyed schnitzel and bratwurst. Portions are considered big for us Thai. Staffs were super friendly. They were very helpful and kind. The front of restaurant looked quiet but when you walk inside it was very packed with customers and very lively. Really enjoyed the meal here.

The place is ok, as the attendance. The food is very good, very nice spices! The beer is cheap (1.7€). The prices of the food is not so good, almost €14 for one small piece of Schnitzel. ---- 2 years later (Nov/2021) I have been there again and the experience was more or less the same, but the Schnitzel was a little bit dry.

We wanted to eat normal and tasty German food. And it was the correct place. Portion is big. Everything was delicious. We were sitting under the sun and enjoyed our kolsch 😀. The staff is friendly and funny. And it's a very old building and an old restaurant with a long story. Truly recommend.

We had a very nice dinner in this place. We ate pork knuckle and it was perfectly cooked. The service was fast and the waiter was friendly. My complain about the service is that the place is huge and it is like a maze. We couldn't find any one to give us a table for a while and we had to actually go and find a person ourselves.

I loved this place! A classic high quality brahaus with all that goes with it, funny staff, non stop beer and great food. The place was full of diverse people and pretty loud with a bar at the other side of the restaurant. Please note it’s cash only. We had some great knödel (German dumpling) and meat. I highly recommend this place. Remember to try the Früh beer!

You must know, don't go here if you don't eat mean (there is no other option). But if you like meat you should go. The concept with the beer is really fun. They will give you small glasses of beer and once you finish it, they will give you a new glass without asking. When my friend asked for a coke, she got a disappointed look. Just so you know.

The food was just good. Nothing over the top, but tasty and comforting. We had a lovely spot along the boulevard, and it was nice and quiet, which really added to the experience. The service was friendly and relaxed, exactly how you'd want it. I had a stew with Potato noodles. The raisins gave it a sweet twist that worked surprisingly well. All in all, a really pleasant evening.

If you are searching for a lovely salad, after lots of heavy German food on your travels, go here! Delicious salad with piled high greens and lovely goat medallions with a honey drizzle and candied walnut atop. The dressing is simple and not as overdressed as most salads seem to be. The staff is super friendly. I loved it so much I came back two nights in a row. And I ordered the latkes on the second visit which were sublime. I recommend to come here if you’re visiting or even living in Köln.

After showing me the bill, the waiter on the terrace added a tip during the card payment without even asking me. That’s unacceptable — I only realized it when I looked at the receipt after asking him for it! I would have gladly left something myself, but after this, I won’t be going back. I strongly recommend everyone double-check what they’re being charged when paying by card.

Nice riverside location for this german-style restaurant. Fast service, did not have to wait for long. Food was pretty nice, i had the stewed beef in raisin sauce and homemade pasta. The pasta was unusual, thick noodles that seemed to have been lightly fried. Beef stew really benefited from the accompanying apple sauce that gave it a bit of sweetness. They will ask for the tip.

The beer garden HELLERS Volksgarten in the park is a popular spot for a Kölsch with stunning views of the lake. The beers served here are organic and come from nearby Heller Brewery, which also offers typical German dishes and regularly organizes special events. The view is worth the visit alone, but the friendly staff and delicious food make it even better. Unfortunately, boats access to the lake is currently not operational, but this spot definitely deserves a visit!
The view is stunning, they are super nice and friendly, except the chief who actually raised his voice on us. Everyone else is super nice tho. The food is amazing and they made our night. Unfortunately the boats are not operational right now but it’s a definitely must go to in Cologne.

Nice place to have beer. Good food as well. Nice time to spend afternoon lunch and beer enjoying the view of park and lake Very good waiter
Dr. R — Google review
Place is nice but some things need to be improved: -if the kitchen is closed cos of random problems, customers should be informed before they sit down (put a sign at the entrance). Getting this information when we had already been waiting at the table for a while cos there was only 1 waiter working, and with a hungry child with us, was not correct. Had we known we would have gone somewhere else -beers not full. Its a rip off to order a 500ml beer and it being clearly under 500ml.
Nicolas L — Google review
Allergic to making money these lot, don't wanna serve anyone. Avoid eye contact when you try to order. Shame cause would be a nice pub otherwise
Joe — Google review
Extremely disappointing experience at Hellers. We waited for over 30 minutes just to place our order, and even then, our server seemed disorganized and forgetful. The real kicker was that our food never arrived. We waited for over an hour, asked multiple times for updates, and were eventually told that our order had been 'forgotten.' Unbelievable. The lack of communication, slow service, and failure to deliver on their promise of food made for a frustrating and hungry evening. Unless they revamp their service and kitchen processes, I'd advise others to steer clear."

(Translated by Google) Excellent typical local brewery. Characteristic place where it seems that time has stopped, with the custom of marking the beers on the coaster and even the final bill is written there. Very nice. If you are hungry I recommend the pork shank or goulash; they were absolutely the best of all the places I ate. The girl who runs the place is incredibly kind. She does everything herself, so be patient and wait for the preparation to be done on the spot. The waiting times are long if you want to eat, but it's absolutely worth it. I will happily return there on my next trip. Reissdorf am Hahnentor is a popular brewpub in Cologne known for its meaty bar meals and traditional Kölsch beer. It is one of the most well-known Kolsch breweries in the city, offering a slightly maltier and heavier taste with a great hoppy finish. Visitors can enjoy live soccer games on TV while savoring classic German dishes like currywurst and chips.
The food was quite delicious. The schnitzel with mushrooms was especially tasty, and the my favorite german cabbage salad was very good addition. The portions are very big, don’t hesitate to take away. Thanks for the non-stop beer service, although it's worth noting for visitors that in Cologne, if your glass is nearly empty, a new one will be brought automatically. The coaster system to signal 'no more, thanks' is a practical solution. Overall, a satisfying meal with good flavors. Thank you 😊

I had a nice meal here on my last evening in the city. A lot of restaurants and pubs were busy as it was a Saturday evening, so we were lucky to get a table outside in the cool evening air. I wasn't feeling too hungry, so I just went for a classic...curry wurst and chips! And I wasn't disappointed! This dish is a classic all over Germany, and I was happy to have it again. The chips were crunchy and light, the sausage was very flavoursome and perfect as usual, and the curry ketchup, which smothered the sausage was the best! I enjoyed every bite of this meal, and the portion size was bigger than I expected. The service was friendly and relaxed, and the chap who served us enjoyed having a chat with us also. So, fancy some German pub grub? Any Reissdorf pub around the city will suit your needs perfectly! Deserved 5 stars. :D

This dining experience turned terrible due to the server's attitude, leaving me in emotional distress and completely ruining my day. The bill was €14.8, and I gave a €2 tip, paying with a €50 note. When she gave me €35 in change, because of the dim light ,I mistakenly thought one €5 note was from my own wallet and waited for her to give the remaining €5. She got angry, handed me another €5, saying "never come back, we don't need your tip"—yet she still kept the €2 tip. I realized my mistake right after leaving, returned within a minute to give back the €5, and apologized sincerely at least three times. But she remained furious, saying they didn't want customers like me. I placed the €5 on the counter, told the man at the front desk, and left. Despite correcting the misunderstanding and apologizing repeatedly, I was met with ongoing hostility. This service was extremely disappointing and caused humiliated, upset and affecting me all night.

Great "deli" for Craft Beer on-the-go. They have a descent selections of beers including IPAs, DIPAs, Stouts, Helles, Lager, Sour and other specialities. The price range is standart for such type of products. They have a bench or some chairs at the door if you want to have a drink, but is not really a "place to stay" concept, or at least that's my perception. I wish the opening hours would be more accurate to a drinking facility 😄

Your experience will depend a lot of the person there and the mood he has... That is, in my opinion bad as you should always offer a good experience in a specialties shop. Situated in the beating heart of Bonner Strasse, the vibe of the Bierlager (especially the terrace area) is enough to find you sitting longer than planned for those one or two beers. With its eclectic atmosphere and a crowd that's predominantly young and friendly, it's an ideal spot for those looking to mingle with locals rather than tourists. The music selection is fantastic, featuring a blend of hip hop, funk, and jazz that sets the perfect backdrop for an enjoyable evening.
A very cool bar, full nice friendly young people. The prices are fair and the music is nice - 90s hip hop, funk and jazz. I can only recommend it!

Great music! A mix of hip hop and some oldies. Friendly staff, young crowd. Decent prices for drinks, though the cocktails and long drinks are a bit on the pricey side.

The Lindt Chocolate Museum in Cologne offers a delightful journey through the history of chocolate, from its ancient origins with the Aztecs to its modern-day production. Situated by the waterfront, this museum showcases various exhibits that provide insight into the evolution of chocolate over time. It's a sweet escape for anyone with a love for all things chocolate and is definitely worth a visit while exploring Cologne.
The museum was amazing. I went there with a friend, and you start with an interesting information room about where cacao actually comes from and how it is harvested. When you enter, you’re also offered a few pieces of chocolate, which taste amazing. After that, you go to an actual factory where they produce fresh chocolate, and you can get a small piece to try. It tasted amazing and smelled wonderful. You can also buy freshly made chocolate there. At the end, upstairs, there is a nice showroom with interesting displays of old chocolate packaging. When exiting, there is a small shop where you can buy chocolate as well. In conclusion, it was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to everyone.

Location is convenient along the river so if one is coming from a river cruise docking, can walk over in minutes. There are a lot of people, so would recommend booking tickets ahead of time. We decided to go late and managed to get 2 of the last 3 tickets within the 2 hrs before closing. Do note that there are discount tickets closer to end of day for a reason. The stations close half an hour before the entire museum close (6pm close then 5:30pm stations are cleared). With the amount of people, it is hard to go through everything before stations stop if it’s close to closing time. We went on a bad day: close to closing time, weekend, and a day where shops in the town are closed for All Saints’ Day, so everyone went to the museum. The layout of the museum does not allow for multiple ways to get to different floors/rooms. There is only 1 elevator for guests to use. So it will be a long wait going between floors and stations to get any free chocolate (we got none… too long of lines and stations were closing). But overall, still a good place to visit. Would just suggest to not go late in the day but more during daytime in a non-weekend, that should make the experience more enjoyable.

I had a wonderful time at the chocolate museum. Plenty of rooms with easy-going info about the origins of chocolate, cocoa, its processing, packaging, transport, and commercialization. You can see in loco a section of a production line and taste a sample of chocolate. Also some interesting historical info on where it all began. It is a great museum for families, kids or only adults. plenty of games and experiments for the young folks. I was so entertained that I almost forgot to take photos. If you are in town don’t miss this museum.

The entrance was guarded by a tall female staff who looked very angry and not at all welcoming. The museum content was very extensive, curated with great detail and academic accuracy, very educational. You also get to try the milk chocolate as it was produced. We only wish there was a water fountain or at least a vending machine that sells water because the chocolates were quite rich and sweet. The cafe staff were very attentive and hospitable, price was reasonable. The entire experience has been most positive but was ruin at the end. I was waiting for my family who went to the washroom by the main door. The museum was closing in a few minutes, I wanted to go to the bench next to the door to put my coat on. The same tall angry female employee from the ticket entrance came to me, wouldn’t allow me a moment for coat and ask me to go out the door because “we are closing in a minute”. There were still people in the gift shop, at the coat check and coming from the bathrooms at the time. Being the only Asian female in the hall I felt unfairly targeted and discriminated.

It was in the year 2025, during Christmas, I was exploring the very famous Christmas markets in Köln. It was extremely cold and I needed some hot chocolate. There was none available in the market. So we decided to step inside the cafe and we were awestruck by their service. Even though itwas heavily crowded, we got two seats quickly and ordered their hot chocolate and banana waffle. The hot chocolate was extremely delicious, particularly with the cream on top. The waffle had one white chocolate ice cream, something that I had never tasted before and it was extremely delicious. Best part is that the prices were extremely reasonable. I would go there again and agan.

We visited the Lindt Chocolate Museum on Sunday the 23rd, and it was very busy. Luckily, Max, one of the friendly floor walkers, helped us book tickets online via QR code. The museum was more about learning the history and process of chocolate than eating it, but there were a few tasty samples. The highlight was the wafer dipped in the chocolate fountain—absolutely delicious. Pro tip: when you reach the machinery section, head to the right side for two sample opportunities, as most people go left. Overall, informative and enjoyable, though not quite what I expected.
Garry C — Google review
For 18 euros it’s not the best value for money. There was a good amount of information to read around the museum and the chocolate making room was incredible. However, it was very busy causing a huge amount of queuing and not much chance to enjoy the experience. The free chocolates were a nice touch but for the price of admission there was very little. Gift shop at the end had lots of choice but definitely pricey.
Hannah E — Google review
The museum is very interesting but has however a few points for improvement that would make the experience more pleasant. I visited today (23/11/25) at 12. Firstly, for the entire duration of the tour, we couldn't find a single toilet. Maybe it was not properly signed? At the ticket counter, the the ticket officer was unbelievably rude and rushing to pay, even though there was no queue and I was just ensuring she understood the proper time slot that I wanted. Time slots are also another big problem. Unfortunately, the same time slot is allocated to more people than it should be allowed to. This leads to queues during the tour and you can't actually enjoy the experience at its fullest. Also, the crowd is not properly managed by the personnel (for example, the queues for the entry mixes with the ones for the museum cafè and cloakroom), leading to chaos. Neverthless, it was an enjoyable experience.

American restaurant
Hard Rock Cafe is a rock 'n' roll-themed chain known for its high-energy vibe and American classics. In Cologne's old town, the venue offers a unique mix of rock 'n' roll museum and restaurant, serving authentic American and international cuisine, cocktails, and entertainment. The place is filled with music memorabilia creating an upbeat atmosphere. While there might be long queues at times, there are skip-the-line tickets available.
Our dinner at Hard Rock Cafe was a truly enjoyable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were immersed in a lively and energetic atmosphere that set the tone for a great evening. The decor, which featured an extensive collection of music memorabilia, added to the excitement and created a unique ambiance. The service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who ensured that our needs were met throughout the meal. When it came to ordering, I opted for the steak, which was cooked to perfection. The chef had clearly done an excellent job, as the steak was tender, juicy, and full of flavour. The presentation was also impressive, with the dish being nicely plated and garnished. To accompany my meal, I chose a Guinness, which was poured to perfection and had a rich, creamy head. The beer was a great match for the steak, and the combination of the two was absolutely delightful. Throughout the meal, the staff were attentive and ensured that our glasses were always full, which added to the overall experience. One of the things that really stood out about our dinner at Hard Rock Cafe was the atmosphere. The music was lively and upbeat, with a great selection of songs that appealed to a wide range of tastes. The volume was also just right, allowing us to easily converse while still enjoying the music. The overall vibe was lively and energetic, with a sense of excitement and anticipation that made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, our dinner at Hard Rock Cafe was a fantastic experience that exceeded our expectations. The combination of great food, excellent service, and a lively atmosphere made for a truly memorable evening, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and enjoyable dining experience.

Amazing place with delicious food and the best atmosphere! The staff are super friendly and full of energy. Our waiter was smiling the whole time and made us feel really welcome. Excellent welcome and service and it was very nice of them to acknowledge our daughter’s birthday! In fact even the customers were great also singing happy birthday to her too but that’s what we love about the Hard Rock Cafe and the people that go there ❤️ Food arrived promptly and was great. It’s not the biggest of venues and has a small Rock Shop but you can still find your favourites.

Hard Rock Cafe in Cologne really impressed us! We had a refreshing Gin Tonic and a perfectly mixed Negroni, which both complemented the pleasant atmosphere of the place. For food, we tried the tortillas filled with juicy chicken and fresh vegetables — they were well-seasoned and the portion was really satisfying. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and quick, which made our afternoon visit even more enjoyable. We recommend it to anyone looking for good food, great drinks, and that unmistakable rock vibe right in the heart of Cologne! 🎸🍹🌮

As soon as you walk in, with the instruments, stage costumes and memorabilia on the walls, you feel as if you’re in a small museum. The music-themed decor, as in every Hard Rock Cafe, gives the place a really nice energy. The cocktails are well made, and the food was both filling and tasty.

Gilden Brauhaus is a great place for beer lovers and for those who enjoy hearty German dishes. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service is attentive, and the food is delicious. There's nothing quite like relaxing on a leafy terrace with a cold beer in hand while savoring some honest German cuisine.
German food, not far from the highway. We stumbled upon it on the way to our ski resort. We like the food served, service is fast and many waiters always walking around to take your orders. We ordered a jagerschnitzel , pork with dumplings and a warm Appel strudel. Didn’t disappoint us at all. We will come back again next year!
Yvonne B — Google review
Huge portions. You can easily order one portion for two people, and two portions are definitely enough for three. We didn’t like the schnitzel - it was way too thick. But the sauerbraten was very tasty, with large pieces of high-quality tender meat. Keep in mind that all salads come with a huge amount of dressing, which really spoils the fresh vegetables.

One of the best german restaurants I've been in. Portions are very big, fast service, and very delicious food, very accesible prices. Liver was cooked nicely, the Bratkartoffeln was not the best though.

Fantastically wide selection of food choices of traditional German fare and Cologne specialties. (The menu is in fun 'news paper' format - with almost endless options.) Service is very attentive and friendly! Nice and very spacious terrace in addition to the huge inside space.
Emese B — Google review
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food was authentic and delicious, with a variety of dishes to choose from. I especially enjoyed the pork knuckles, the pork liver (Berlin style), and the brauhaus-topf, which is a hearty stew with meat and vegetables. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. The beer selection was also impressive, with many local and craft beers on tap. I tried the Kölsch, which is a light and refreshing beer that is typical of Cologne. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and lively. The best part is that this restaurant is open every day, even on public holidays. It seems to be very popular among the locals, as it was always busy when I visited. If you are looking for an authentic and satisfying German meal in Cologne, you should definitely check out this restaurant. You won't regret it!

Had a nice lunch in the old market square. Schnitzel, fries and chicken salad were had. Good size portions. Quick service. Nice location and atmosphere
David C — Google review
The restaurant is at a prime location, large square in front of it, no traffic, only pedestrian area and enough space for outside seating. The food we had was good, I mean not necessarily extraordinary but it was good. What I missed from the staff but also from the food itself was, that sprinkle of passion and love. For example, ask the customer, if he wants salt and pepper for the eggs, put the butter aside and not into the bun, add a tiny bit of dressing to the lettuce. Would I visit this place again? Most likely not and I would select a new place with the hope to find more motivated employees.
Okan B — Google review
Fun breakfast buffet with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Veggie options available and labeled, at least on the menu. English menu is available via QR code. Blankets on outdoor seats to bundle in were a nice touch. Service was not great. There’s no indication if you need to wait to be seated or sit on your own. Standing in the foyer, there was no one to help us. After asking if we could sit outside, a waiter said yes and then never came out to take our order so I had to go back inside to look for a waiter. Once we finally got our food, we never saw him again and had to track him down inside to pay.
Shirin M — Google review
I rarely leave bad reviews, but this was really disappointing. The chicken wings were awful—I couldn’t even eat them properly, they were dry, over-fried, and just crumbled apart. I never thought wings could be this bad. The service was also poor; it took them too long to serve us and even longer just to pay. The fries and cocktail was okay.
Kidest G — Google review
Good and affordable breakfast buffet! Recommended to be there before everyone turns up at 10 am. It then gets too crowded and too long line to the dishes. Before that the buffet is a feast for eyes and taste buds. Just have the great overview to pick and chose. The staff is friendly and helpful. Good food quality and large selection with lots of goodies. Outdoor seating give extra beautiful experience of Cologne’s vibe.

I paid 40 euro cash for 29.90 bill and waiter said is everything okay we said yes. Then I was expecting return of balance but he did not bring. I asked the balance he said me he asked and I said okay. Normally tip is changing in between 10-15-20 %, only in extreme conditions like if he was super friendly super supportive would have left 10 euro, but none of the waiters and waitresses were smiling even taking the order. It was a surprising moment when it happened. Food was okay, atmosphere is good outside but service was surprisingly weird.

We went there during Christmas market season and it was fantastic! Food and beer were delicious and service was friendly and fast. I recommend this place !
Mami T — Google review
Wonderful food, wonderful smells, and a proper old-school Kölsch atmosphere. I honestly think they serve the best Haxe in Cologne, and that says a lot in this city. Crispy on the outside, fall-apart tender inside. Pure joy. The beer sauce brings sweet and bitter undertones. The slightly sweet and tangy krautsalat is a flavor bomb. I’d take home a big jar if I could. The deliberately overseasoned bratkartoffeln, with char from the oven, add salt and a deep bitterness that ties it all together. The only downside? The Senf (mustard) is nothing special. But honestly, you won’t miss it with everything else going on. The Bier Esel might be a donkey, but it knows exactly what it’s doing. Einmal im Monat? Nein, zweimal im Monat, if I have the time.

Wonderful food and a real pub atmosphere. We ate outside under the market umbrellas. Had the delicious Goulash suppe. The Kalbsschnitzel für Zwei (small Schnitzel for two people) with the Chanterelle cream sauce from their summer menu was fantastic and cost under €40. Their specialty is actually many variations of a pot of steaming mussels, which we will try next time. Good service and the server spoke English once he knew we were English-speakers from the U.S.

Balthasar is a lively bistro offering brunch, steaks, and cocktails in a modern setting with exposed brick. It has two locations on Euskirchener Strasse in Sulz and Aachener Strasse in the Belgian Quarter, both serving breakfast. The food is flavorful with recommended dishes like yogurt and egg options. However, some feel that Pankuchen doesn't quite fit the bill.
Very tasty food (and at the neighboring tables everything I saw looked incredibly appetizing). Very fast service, attentive and smiling staff. Very pleasant atmosphere.

The food was nice but the service was amazing! Our waiter Cathy (or Kathy?) was incredibly nice and sweet, absolutely the best waiter, she made the evening very very more pleasant
Iriam C — Google review
I visited Balthasar in Cologne with friends who live in Germany and speak the language fluently. As a tourist, I was really looking forward to enjoying a nice evening, but unfortunately, the experience left me disappointed. We ordered both starters and main courses at around 8:10 PM. The starters didn’t arrive until approximately 8:40 PM, which was already quite slow. However, the real issue was with our main courses. By 9:20 PM, we still hadn’t received them, so we asked the waitress about the delay. Her response was a series of excuses: that they were busy with outdoor tables and that we were supposed to inform them when to proceed with the main course. This was never communicated to us beforehand, and frankly, made little sense—especially when the table next to us, who ordered well after we did, had already received their food. When we raised this point, the waitress claimed that the other table hadn’t ordered starters, which again felt like just another excuse rather than a genuine explanation or apology. Worse, she insisted that “this is how things work in Germany”—a comment made in front of my friends who have been living here for over eight years and knew this was not true. Even after all this, at 9:45 PM, we still hadn't received our food, and no effort was made to apologize or offer any form of compensation. When the food finally came, it was fine, but certainly not worth the two-hour wait and the poor service we endured. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing evening. Good food means little when the service and communication are so lacking.

We just wanted to have some food and drinks as 3 people, we were literally not allowed inside -to be more clear we got very rudely fired. There was plenty of tables free, but the waitress meant they are reserved and inside room is closed and the tables that are free wont be able to be opened, which is totally ridicilous and unreasonable. Later on an old german couple walked in and they were set immidiately. After i saw that i walked in again to ask the waiter if we can also put a chair to the 2-tables and wait for another table to be free, while i was talking to the waiter -the first waitress (black long haired young woman) i talked too said to the waiter " They are trying to walk inside again, take them out". And i was shocked, truly shocked.... Afterall i dont know why this behaviour was; was it because we were not germans or because the woman just hates her job... either case, it is unacceptable. I am sad to have an experience like this here -where i came multiple times before and where i brought my family from abroad to have dinner and we had to walk out with a very disturbing feeling.

As 3 people we were not allowed inside neither were told that we could wait to be seated. Instead we were told to go out and try ro come back maybe 30 min later with a very undermining and disturbing tone... Which would still be ok if they didnt let others inside, right after us.. totally trash, overrated and unworthy place

Traditionsgaststätte „Bei d’r Tant“ is a charming and warm neighborhood brauhaus in Cologne, offering a traditional German pub experience. It's a favorite among locals and visitors seeking an authentic atmosphere away from the tourist crowds. The staff is known for their friendliness and helpfulness, creating a welcoming environment. The menu features classic German dishes like schnitzel, liverwurst, Dutch cheese plates, and black pudding with mashed potatoes and apple sauce.
The food was outstanding! Delicious, fresh, and well prepared. It was definitely homemade. The atmosphere reminded me of an old neighborhood pub.

We absolutely loved this place! Traditional, just what we wanted. Delicious food with very nice presentation (we took Rosti with fresh tartare and delicious sausage with fried potatoes by advice of the waiter). The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The waiter asked where we are from, if it is our first time in Cologne and told us about local beer. Highly recommend this place!

My favorite bar in Cologne. Close to downtown, but far enough away that it’s not full of tourists. A VERY traditional style pub. Visited several times. Gets very busy during dinner time. The staff is helpful and friendly. They seemed happy to speak English with an American. Traditional German food. Don’t miss if you’re looking for an authentic experience within a 10 min walk to the cathedral. Outdoor and upstairs seating.

Upon arrival at this place, I asked the waiter if I can pay by card. He said yes. I ordered Kolsch. I went to pay and another waiter told me that if the bill is under 20, they cannot accept card. I did not have any cash upon me. So they charged more for this. I do not recommend this place. Very rude behaviour.

What a fantastic little pub. Great atmosphere, nice beer and good food. The service was also excellent and very friendly. Food menu was extensive, we loved the blood sausage and the halve hahn. Food seemed to be served until fairly late too which was handy. Can't wait to visit again

Big and spacious restaurant with a good selection of food and drinks. I opted for the risotto from the seasonal card which was delicious. Also tried the soup which was delicious . Visiting from the US with our teenagers, was looking for an outdoor dinner since it was a Saturday night. The staff were particularly nice and helpful with seating and ordering on an only German menu. The downside... the food was very very bland and expensive. This is specifically for the burger and drinks trucks and not the restaurant itself, which is lovely. May 1st we arrived well before 2pm waiting on the burger truck opening, as it had been recommended to us. 2pm came, nothing. At 2.15 were told another 12 minutes. It didn't open until an hour later with staff inside taking an absolute age to open. Ny this time we are hungry, annoyed and almost going elsewhere. The staff also were being shown absolutely everything by one chef who was also taking orders, so everything took another age. It wasn't until 330pm we started to eat. Total shambles Food was nice but not worth such a wait and in typical German fashion, no apologies or explanation for their customers.

It’s in middle of the city so it’s crowded and hard to get a table. You need to stand in different queues to get drinks and food, so if u come alone u spend 30 minutes getting the order. Service is also slow.. just a great ambience to chill over beers

I liked the interior and the atmosphere. The food was good but I didn't want to go twice because the choice is a bit limited. The staff were friendly. The only problem is that it closes very early, so being rushed to finish one's food, tarnishes the whole occasion, as well as a poor range of spirits. I would probably go again if I was within walking distance. Nice but limited.

Probably the best traditional German meal we have had here in cologne. Bratwurst, potatoes and cabbage and everything was very tasty. The sandwich was ok but the fries were AMAZING! No fry has compared to these fries. The waitress seems a little overwhelmed so it took a long time for everything. Even refills of drinks but the food being so good made up for it.

The place might look nice, but our experience was ruined by the an employee. We were treated with blatant disrespect and made to feel completely unwelcome. This all happened simply because our friend put a bottle of water from her hand onto the table. Such petty, unprofessional behavior completely overshadows whatever the place might offer. I cannot recommend it.

really absurd waiting times, we ordered the breakfast of coffee with waffles + a bread with avocado and hummus; the coffee arrived in 25 minutes and the bread 40minutes later (obviously we had no coffee left) and the waffle never arrived, even though we stayed there 1 hour and 30 minutes! I can understand that they are a little overwhelmed with the amount of people that visit the place because of the decor of strange things, but that does not justify the lack of staff that prevents them from giving a good service. I don't recommend the place to eat, if you want to go in and look at the decoration, this is free.

I had a orient bowl. The dressing was kind of boring (just plain yogurt sauce) and the falafel balls were dry and hard. Overall it was a just a pretty regular bowl that you can maybe do better at home. The chai latte was also nothing more than ordinary. My friend‘s French toast looked quite delicious and she enjoyed it. We sat next to the entrance of their storage room or whatever, so during our branch time the door buzzed from time to time and would open itself right next to me which was quite annoying. Biergarten with a a buzzing atmosphere. Located in the south of Cologne in a rather business-ish area. Well hidden gem with a nice little shady garden. Apparently you can also host events here (atleast my DJ friend told me) like birthdays or so. Service we’re doing their best but it was crowded so that’s okay. They don’t offer a big variety of dishes but the ones they do are decent. We had the salad with mushrooms and the souvlaki with skewers and fries. The salad had loads of mushrooms so a recommendation for shroom lovers. The skewers were great the fries okay. While we were there someone was hosting a birthday party or so. So we had some nice background music. A minus on service as they only accept cash. In total: I’d recommend coming here when you’re in the south of cologne.

I really liked local alstad-süd hell beer on tap. Currywurst sauce was really tasety and fried fries was crunchy at surface soft inside.
Emre D — Google review
It is ok but overpriced, and it is quite a "Frechheit" to call their poutine a real poutine. It is like selling some random bread with a tomato on top and calling it a Pizza.
Yannick T — Google review
Easy going staff, lots of space, close to the waterfront, very relaxing. Can't talk about the food though. We only had drinks.
Active A — Google review
- 30 minutes to order a beer; - 20 minutes to receive your order; - they got confused with the drinks; - Such a nice spot in the city and such a horrible service.
Caio C — Google review
This looks like a tourist trap but it was in fact delicious!! Great place for an aperol and burger
Eyal C — Google review
We loved this place! Beergartens are generally nice but this one is really charming. The ambiance of the docks makes it kind of special. The menu is classical but complete. And the beers are tasty! Moreover the staff was really nice, we appreciated that. So we'll definitely go back again!
Jonathan D — Google review
Absolutely lovely and chill place. Friendly staff and nice beers. I’ve seen some complaints about the food but obviously this is more of a place to enjoy a nice beer and have a snack (nothing fancy). Prices are super reasonable given the quality and the gorgeous view.

You need to go to the desk, order and pay imediately .. very nice in summer time, on the Rhein river outside..i do not know in winter or by rain...Probably not so..But by nice weather with a bycicle..great.

German restaurant
Haus Töller, located southwest of Cologne's city center near Barbarossaplatz, is a historic establishment with a rich culinary tradition. This sixth-generation institution has survived the war and offers a menu focused on traditional dishes from the region, along with special weekly offerings. While it may be on the pricier side compared to similar restaurants, it provides an authentic German dining experience.
The food and the place were very nice. The interior was preserved as an old and traditional restaurant. The schnitzel and boiled leg meat were delicious. The fresh sausage was not our style, it was more like spicy minced meat. The waiters showed complete German hospitality :)
Can Ç — Google review
Although the sour horse dish was little bit tough and slightly smelly, warm blood sausage was excellent and beer was very smooth and tasty, we’ve had a little too many😂 it was packed so the service was little slow at times but overall, a great experience!
Akira S — Google review
I had an extremely bad experience at this restaurant. First, I sat at my table for about 40 minutes without a waiter approaching me – even though I tried several times to start a conversation, I was completely ignored. Eventually, I ordered a dish (over €20) which turned out to be absolutely inedible. It had an extremely strong smell and taste of cloves, and the food was full of clove pieces, making it impossible to eat. After taking one bite, I immediately told the waitress – she just walked away without saying a word. When it came time to pay, they charged me the full price for the totally inedible dish. When I explained the situation, they claimed it never happened and that I was making it up. They refused to offer even the smallest discount or apology. When I asked for the manager, the waitress first tried to convince me she was the manager herself. Eventually, I found an older man at the entrance. Instead of listening, he yelled at me, saying that maybe in “my country” this would be acceptable, but here they had the most famous restaurant in Cologne and could do whatever they want. Honestly, I have no idea how he decided that 620 reviews make his place “the most famous in Cologne.” For me: absolutely not recommended!
Oleh K — Google review
Rude, liars. We arrived to get a drink at 19:00 on a Friday, the pub was half empty and we were turned away (just two people). The barman said there was space but another person refused us entry. Whilst waiting for a cab several Germans entered without a reservation.
Ian H — Google review
The older waiter, Markus, was rude and slow. He didn't check on me after the food was served. Unfriendly and dismissive. Schnitzel was quite dry and totally tasteless. Took forever to get additional wedge of lemon. I asked for the bill, he told me "24,50" and I gave him 30 euros right there. He walked away, assuming the rest for him. I went to ask him for my change, and he said, "Oh you're American, I thought it was the tip." I said no. "How much do you want back?" he asked. "5.50, I said," and he counted it out angrily and slammed it in my hand. Greedy, rude, sneaky. And the food was mediocre. Too bad because the place is full of charm.
Maisie W — Google review
The food was delicious, the beer was the worst beer I have ever drunk in Germany, light and sweet. The waiter was very very rude and hateful, we asked him to pay with the EC, he refused and said you are not leaving without paying the money CASH.
Tariq Y — Google review
Great historic site with tasty German food. Menu is focusing on traditional dishes from the region with some special weekly offerings. A bit on the pricier side for comparable restaurants (expect to pay 25-30 EUR per person for a main course and drinks).
Jonas R — Google review
Very bad service. They placed us in front of the toilet door although half of the restaurant looked empty. When we asked for another table we got rejected because the empty tables were for a ‘bigger group’. We were with 3.

We’re going near this place the other day and the vibes were amazing. Cool stuff and public. Can’t say anything about drinks or food, as they didn’t take cash. However, we spent around 30 minutes at this place and definitely gonna come back next time.

A cozy bar with a good vibe. Staff is friendly and polite. option to play pool and kicker at low prices. Good place to have late night conversations. Tequila shots are worth trying. Not a place for dancing, music was okay. Washrooms could be better maintained.

Restaurant
Birreria - Duexer Botschaft is a delightful bar in Cologne that stands out for its unique offerings. With five house-brewed beers, it provides an excellent alternative to the typical Kölsch, ensuring beer enthusiasts have plenty of options. The spacious and bright interior features ample seating and a charming sun terrace, making it an inviting spot to relax with friends. Guests rave about the delicious food, which pairs wonderfully with the craft beers on tap.
One of our favourite bars in Cologne. 5 beers brewed in-house (so you don't have to drink wretched Kolsch) and a well-stocked fridge with other beers. Big, bright space with lots of seating and a sun terrace. We decided to eat there and the food was very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Well recommended.
Neill D — Google review
The terrasse is nice, The service, they are friendly, but they do not pay enough attention about your requests, The food is good, but not really italian like pretended, The menu does not take in count the different allergies and wishes. Don't wait for a great restaurant, it is a normal one, you won't be disappointed. So go there if your goal is to be with your friends more than to enjoy a new experience.
Feres Y — Google review
Very rude and inhospitable for larger groups. The beer is good, and the food is acceptable. **Edit after the management responded** I have a group that has met there for a meetup. We had been meeting there for four months. For those months, there was no problem and the wait staff were very friendly. Everyone orders drinks and some people eat there as well. After these four months, though, the staff of Birreria were obviously just annoyed and rude. They 1) never talked to us about a *problem* (i.e. they didn't think that our group was ordering enough food/drinks) 2) never asked us to adjust our behavior or to not come back 3) never offered a private conference room for a fee (until I left this bad review, which is a little bit late) 4) never offered a productive solution to anyone. They did 1) try to actively be rude to us 2) offer no reason or solution for the aggravation 3) harass people for not ordering *enough*. We never tried to use the restaurant as a free conference center. I do not understand what the trigger, nor would I ever recommend this restaurant for this reason. It seems that a simple discussion beforehand could have solved this reason. Birreria did not choose that option.
Daniel K — Google review
I like the combination of Italian food and good beer. The beer is brewed in-house

We were five people, and while drinking the beers that we ordered, we found out that 2 out of 5 beers were more then half a year expired. After showing it to the waitress, he ignored and refused to replace them. His comments were: - it is ok to drink, don´t worry... Never again! Pizza was okish

Despite its location outside the city center, this bottle shop boasts an impressive collection of approximately 150 beers from around the world, many of which are exclusive to this establishment. Interesting selection of national and international beer! A little pricey but many beers you won't find anywhere else in Cologne. Really friendly people working there who are happy to describe the beer in great detail (if you'd like, of course). Felt like a kid in a candy store. Will definitely be back soon! :D
