The Cologne Cathedral is absolutely amazing and breathtaking! Its enormous size and stunning Gothic architecture make it one of the most impressive landmarks I’ve ever visited. Even though it’s often crowded, everything feels well organized, and the atmosphere remains peaceful and respectful. It’s also right next to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station), so it’s very easy to reach — perfect for a quick stop or a longer visit. The gift shop is lovely, with nice souvenirs and books about the cathedral’s history. I especially recommend visiting on rainy days — the interior feels even more magical and calming, with the sound of rain outside and the light coming through the stained glass windows. Truly a must-see spot in Cologne!

Huge structure with fantastic works of art and acoustics! Interesting borehole to the underground foundations. Fun, and slightly disorienting spiral climb on narrow stairs to the belfry and then all way to the steeple of one of the spires! Parking can be found in an underground garage very close by. Lots of interesting people to watch both outside and in!

Went here during day time and night time and both times I was in awe with the size and just how grandeur the cathedral was. A wonderful place to visit when you’re in Cologne. There’s some renovation happening currently with how long it usually takes, it might still be there in the next couple of years. It’s quite busy but since it’s huge, you won’t really feel like it’s too crowded.

It’s interesting to see the differences between various types of chocolate, and the exhibits explain everything in an engaging way. Overall, it feels a bit like a big promotional pavilion for Lindt — but the chocolate is truly delicious, so it’s easy to forgive :)

The museum was amazing. I went there with a friend, and you start with an interesting information room about where cacao actually comes from and how it is harvested. When you enter, you’re also offered a few pieces of chocolate, which taste amazing. After that, you go to an actual factory where they produce fresh chocolate, and you can get a small piece to try. It tasted amazing and smelled wonderful. You can also buy freshly made chocolate there. At the end, upstairs, there is a nice showroom with interesting displays of old chocolate packaging. When exiting, there is a small shop where you can buy chocolate as well. In conclusion, it was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to everyone.

I had a wonderful time at the chocolate museum. Plenty of rooms with easy-going info about the origins of chocolate, cocoa, its processing, packaging, transport, and commercialization. You can see in loco a section of a production line and taste a sample of chocolate. Also some interesting historical info on where it all began. It was really a great experience to visit Lindy Chocolate Museum. We booked the chocolate tasting session in advance. It was really a good experience to attend the session to understand the history of chocolate and taste different phases of chocolate. In the small factory we can see a small version of the chocolate factory and the lane. Our kids really enjoyed the overall experience.

This place is remarkable! This is a museum where every single painting is worth seeing. Of course, the Picasso collection is the most famous and iconic, but you can find plenty of splendid paintings there. My only regret is that I had only 1.5 hours to see this collection.

But some historic buildings (old elephant house) surely add to the flavor. We paid €98 for two adults and 2 kids. So plan to bring your healthy snacks and drinks with you, otherwise better top up your Amex ;)

Although zoos are not my favorite place to travel, this zoo surprised me. Animal rights were relatively respected and different and rare animals were collected in this zoo. I saw the Iranian cheetah, an endangered animal, for the first time in this zoo. It was a completely different experience from the zoos I had seen in Asia and Europe. I had it here.

An incredibly expansive and intricate zoo, with an insane amount of different areas and habitats to visit. Definitely reserve at least a few hours to complete a full loop of the zoo! I've never seen so many of certain animals before, namely the meerkats. Gate staff are also super friendly and speak English which makes it easy.

Wonderful zoo and perfect size to walk around and see everything. My children loved the feeding sessions for the seals and otters and we really enjoyed our day. The animals are looked after well and I would come again and recommend to family and friends.

Have been there again after a long time, it seems most animals kept well,they have more space now and look ok. Only the see through pool of the hippopotamus had an eco problem and was very cloudy,which was why they weren't fed for the public. The ant eater looked bored and moved repetitive. I liked the space of the cheetah which looked very natural. Entrance is expansive,but if you buy tickets online you get a daily free ticket for public transport

The Cologne Zoo is very small. The elephant house and fake dinosaurs take up most of the space. The zoo is a dreary, bleak, and absolutely ugly place, captivating depressed animals. It's truly awful, giving an abandoned desolated and apocalyptic area. Anyone who doesn't feel pity for them probably won't feel anything else either. Every enclosure is super tiny. A lot of animals were also not there. The tropical house was closed, as well as every snack bars except one.. on a weekend.

I spent a happy day at this immaculate and inspiring museum, fortified by visits to the cafe for elevenses and then a delicious lunch. There are 3 main floors - Medieval, Baroque and 19th Century - with excellent information in each room, in English as well as German, and I learnt such a lot about the painting techniques and historical context. The altarpiece room, which I happened to have to myself, is glorious.

We went spontaneously an hour before closing and received a discount, allowing us in for only 4,5€! It’s a spacious museum with 3 floors, every floor having a different times in history reflected in the art, would go again! Perfect rainy day activity

Wonderfully presented museum on 5 floors (top floor closed when I visited). There are 3 gallery floors, one each dedicated to the Medieval, Baroque & 19th Century collections. The 19th Century ( basement floor) is good with 3 Casper David Friedrich pieces, and a smattering of pieces by Corot, Lieberman, Manet, Monet, Gaughin & Van Gogh. Each floor is divided into thematic rooms, relevant to the weather and this works brilliantly on the Baroque and Medieval floors where themes like flowers & passion( Baroque) are explained with detailed signage in German & English. I've always struggled with the Baroque in painting, but here the story is so well told that it grips you & I learned a lot. It's particularly strong on northern European painting, so lots of Rubens, Van Steen & Rembrandt. Likewise with the Medieval floor. There is a coherent story being told and the collection is much more coherent than say The National Gallery in London. The Cologne School of artists and the legends of St Ursula ( patron saint of Cologne) were particularly impressive. It has a very good gift shop and cafe and I was amazed at how few visitors were there as it is a first rate museum

We had a room with a balcony called the penthouse. The place is old, and the renovation is outdated, but it’s comfortable. There was one large bed for two people and two single beds on the second level. The room cost 133 euros. It’s a decent option just to stay for one or two nights for 3-4 people. Booked through booking.com and was confirmed for a 2 bedroom apartment. When we checked in they showed us to a one bedroom apartment on a higher floor than we were originally told. Now they are trying to say we never showed up so they don’t have to refund us. This business lies, has no empathy, and I would advise anyone to find a different place to stay.

Wir haben am nächsten Tag Ohrstöpsel gekauft und man konnte ohne irgendeine Lärmbelästigung schlafen. Die hinteren Zimmer sind laut den Anderen ruhiger. Da es Altbau ist, knartscht der Parkettboden und man hört das Gehen der Nachbarn von oben und im Treppenhaus. Die Betten und das kleine Bad waren völlig in Ordnung. Nur müsste die Wohnung regelmäßiger entstaub werden. Es waren auch ein paar Steckdosen ohne Abdeckung, hier vielleicht aus Sicherheitsgründen noch nachrüsten. Another of Colognes beautiful churches to visit. Really interesting history here with plenty to look at. Free to visit with a beautiful Basilica and some wonderful Stained glass windows.

So much more history here than other churches and cathedrals neaby! Ancient paintings and sculptures above, and ancient tombs below, in the crypt.. Quite an incredible place. I highly recommend!!

Walking through the streets in Cologne on a rainy day, we stumbled upon this Basilica. This is a beautiful Basilica and we enjoyed the architecture, art and quietness of what this Basilica offers. There is so much of history in Germany and this is one of them. We saw many art depicting Christendom and history of Cologne. It is very peaceful to be here. The atmosphere is very reflective and you can pray and mediate as this is what this church is for. We did not had to pay a fee but to respect this place for what it is. We spent about 45 minutes here and moved on. There is also a write up about this Basilica in the front foyer.

Beautiful place, and a lot less busy than the Cathedral! The volunteer lady here was lovely and helpful. A lot of the place was destroyed in the WW2 bombing, but that does mean the stained glass is more modern, and personally, a lot more interesting. The crypt downstairs is also worth checking out.

So..I wanted to visit this place because of the beautiful orange cupola you see in Google pics - I'll be honest...it wasn't that beautiful bright orange I was imagining...but boy! This place did not disappoint!! From the moment you enter, you feel transported to another world..another age. The entrance niche gave me goosebumps - the mother and son statue is entrancing and you can take a bit of time to sit and reflect before it. The main hall itself is multi tiered (very different in its feel from other churches I have seen), with the gorgeous orange cupola looking down on you with all its glory. Don't miss the crypt entrance, or the underlying frangrance of lollies through the church. Tip- go during lunch time and grab a bit at the donor place across the road - Anya Donor. (We passed it during lunch and saw the super long line and figured it was a good bet to take). By the time we got done with St. GEREON and returned, it was nice and empty. Delicious food, amazing portions, perfect prices!

amazing art, its partially built inside a romanic church so it benefits from the architecture as well. a lot to read and to look at, wonderful exibition. the catalogue is also very cheap considering the number of pages, but is in german. given the occasion ill visit again

A wonderful collection of medieval statues, carvings, relics, windows etc. Beautifully displayed in the old church of St Cecila. An ethereal atmosphere, much to appreciate. Some steps may be tricky for those with mobility difficulties but still plenty to see on the main level.

It’s a hidden gem in Cologne. The museum is not quite big neither small. It’s one of the two museums using a same lobby, each taking a wing. The Shnuetgen Museum exhibits quite a few medieval and religious related sculptures and items. Half of the museum is within an old church and another half is a new building attached to the old church. You might need 2-3 hours if you want a detailed tour.

Not really worth a visit. There’s not more to see than you would expect to see in many other cathedrals, except perhaps that you get to see some people things close up, with some explanations.

I enjoyed the chai latte, finding it delightful. However, the blueberry cheesecake was disappointing. The cheese flavor was too subtle to discern, and the jelly-like blueberry layer failed to impress, lacking in taste. Additionally, the cake layer was dry and lacked flavor.

Very well maintained place for brunch in köln. The food was definitely main reason to visit the place but the decor is also very insta worthy. Coffee options are extremely good. My favourite is caffe latte with white chocolate and French toast with bacons. The service is little slow when it is busy. But the servers are very nice and helping. I am looking forward to visit them again.

Cute, cozy and relaxing cafe tucked backed on a quiet little street in Ehrenfeld. Friendly service. Nice breakfast menu and they have a supplementary daily chalkboard menu. They also have about six cakes to choose from. Pleasant atmosphere inside or out. Great coffee, it’s from VanDyck roaster.

Me and my friend visited the place for the second time. The first time we liked the place and the food, so we thought why not. And sadly it was a great disappointment. I don't know what was the actual problem, maybe there was not enough staff to serve all the customers? even though our drink order was taken really quickly, we spent 30 min waiting for the actual chance to enjoy it and the possibility to order something to eat. After another 40 min our Omelet, two croissants and a plate of antipasti arrived. There was no bread next to the plate of cheeses and meat (which is okey, it wasn't in the menu). The waiter was asked if he could bring some bread. Suddenly he got very annoyed and even more, when he was asked what kind of bread you have. At the end we did receive a one toasted slice of bread, which arrived after we finished our meal (we waited more than one hour for the meal and were starving after all) at the end we found out that the slice of bread costed us 1.8 eur The plate of Omelet was decorated with one piece of cucumber and two pieces of rucola. I don't know if it suppose to be like that, but seemed as it was done very careless. Not a bad place in general, nice atmosphere, reasonable food but you need to fix such problems if you want people coming back. Or if anybody wants to visit the place, they shouldn't come on Sunday at the rush hour, cause it's a recipe for a bad brunch experience for sure.

Disappointed with the service. Not that crowded on a monday morning but impossible to get the waitress attention which led to supportive looks with guests from other table facing the same. The coldness of the waitress also was legendary. Food was good though! Their house breakfast was really surprising!

Everything is good in general especially the price ratio. The hotel receptionist speaks not so good English but I can understand him and he’s very helpful. The point is that we need to do the self-check in, so please aware of that and make sure that you have the internet and it will save your time.

When I first checked in, the staff was friendly. But the disappointment started after I entered the room. It was completely different from the attached photo on the reservation site. The only thing that was the same was the bed, the chair, and the bathroom...😮‍💨 The room was very small and cozy, a single room, unlike the attached photo. I felt like I was being scammed.. So I went back to the counter with my friend and spoke to the staff.. I said there were no rooms available right now and that if I came back tomorrow they would change the room.. but my friend and I had negative thoughts first.. But the employee sighed heavily and looked annoyed.. So, for 3 nights and 4 days, I was annoyed, but I just held on and wanted to leave quickly. The bedding was bad, the bathroom was a mess, and the wifi was terrible.😣😖 If you are considering this hotel, think again... It's not cheap, and there are no advantages.

We stayed here for one night. I can say that for the price this is the best option we found. It has all the amenities you need. Comfortable bed, great shower, and even a TV. If I ever have an overnight stay in Cologne again, I will stay at this hotel again

This was the dustiest room I've ever stayed in. When I pulled up the duvet, my body felt itchy, which clearly meant there was a lot of dust on the bedding and bed. The shower drain in the bathroom was clogged, turning the bathroom into a swimming pool. I'm never coming back to this hotel. The front desk staff were kind. That's the only positive thing I can say. This hotel ruined my trip. We were scammed. The room in the hotel's promotional photos was grossly exaggerated they were all lies. The Wi-Fi was also incredibly weak. I was absolutely furious about the lack of Wi-Fi. After enduring a few frustrating days, we're finally escaping. Goodbye.

Location is in my opinion very convenient for access to main city and venue for live music. The room was terrible in my opinion. Minimum 20 dead insects within the room and a handful of living ones. I highly recommend you avoid this hotel.

I stayed at your hostel for one night on, and unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant experience. The room was extremely hot and stuffy there was no proper ventilation. In addition, it was very noisy due to the street traffic outside, which made it even harder to rest. I was unable to sleep the entire night, felt unwell the next morning, and even woke up swollen and covered in mosquito bites. The room conditions were far below a basic standard of comfort and made proper rest completely impossible. The staff just told nothing about that.

Great hostel. Clean and comfy beds and nice bathroom. Kitchen was very useful as it had lots of utilities to make your own food. Good location for me as it was 1min away from the amazing Cologne Central Mosque.

This place was OK! Staff were kind however not overly 'invovled'. When I was given a 'tour' of the place, the receptionist said "eat any food you see without a label" but she never got up from behind the desl to show me the hostel. When i went to look for the free food, it wasn't easily located. I realised after it was too late that not only was there some dry food, but also free food in the fridge. Was slightly annoying because I had just been out to buy food. However not that big of a deal. Atmosphere felt lacking, however everyone was kind! Showers a bit small and can be challenging with the 5 second button press however I do agree with the initiative of saving water. Overall would stay again!

Quiet hostel in a nice and cosy student neighbourhood, Ehrenvelt. A lot of inexpensive restaurants around and about 20 minutes by tram from the central station. The communal kitchen is great to meet other travellers.

A lovely and friendly hostel. So cool there are an arcade and Nintendo games in the common space. You can have free tea and coffee in the kitchen, though some kinds of coffee charge €0,50. The only problem I met was that there was no hot water around 00:00 so I could only took a cool bath.

The hostel was a very good one, it has a good atmosphere, the staff was friendly, it had a kitchen so it was easy to cook your food and some money. The location was very good being 20 minutes to the cathedral. All in all a very pleasant experience. Would come back again!

Very recommended. I booked here for the gamescom days. It was the cheapest and it is only five to ten minutes walking distance to the event. It is managed by a single person only and it shows everywhere the love he has put to his hostel. Everything is clean, the carpets are new and not millions of years old. There's a small kitchen where you can have free coffee and then you have to clean your glass by yourself. There's a shared fridge, books and even an arcade that is also free and full of fighting games. The rooms have two bunker beds, so in total four beds and four lockers. There are small messages everywhere about what or how do to something or not to. I really liked the atmosphere and the work this man has put in this place. If I go to gamescom next year I will book here again.

While visiting Cologne, this was an excellent and budget-friendly place to stay. Everything was very clean and almost anything that you might need during your stay was either included or found at a modest price at the reception desk. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful and genuinely offered to do what they could to make my stay more comfortable. Cologne is a very walkable city, and the Penny Pincher Inn is situated in an excellent location only minutes away from the train station, restaurants and grocery stores, the Rhine riverfront, and the Deutzer Bridge to old town. If I'm ever back in Cologne, I would certainly stay with the Penny Pincher Inn again.

It was really clean and nice. The guy that rented it was cool. There was an arcade machine with retro games. Free coffee and tea. Labels on everything how it worked in english. Clean beds with enough room in the rooms. A bathroom for every room that also had a shower in it. Working keys and enough keys for everyone. Close to the city. Pretty much what you would want a place like this to have and a little bit more for a pretty good price.

Fantastic 360° view of Cologne. Very cheaply priced and is open all throughout the day. Highly recommend coming here if walking up the 500+ steps to the top of Cologne Cathedral's South Tower just isn't for you.

Highly recommended! Open until 10 PM in the summer (Friday and Saturday). If you go from 9 PM until closing, you'll see it both in the morning/sunset and in the evening. This is also plenty of time, since there's no bar or other seating.

This is a great alternative option to see the city from high or having to climb the steps of the cathedral bell tower. There was no queue when we arrived, 5euros for a ticket, get on the lift to the 28th floor and your free to roam around the top. Great views and really sheltered from the weather with super high glass barriers. It's a great place to get away from the noise of the city. They do not allow suitcases but were fine with rucksacks. Great value and 100% must visit.

This building is truly amazing. Often times (to me) their exhibits are not as breathtaking as the building itself. I love looking at the empty walls, ceilings, huge windows, etc. Beware you need to have cash cause they do not accept payments by cards.

The room with gothic-roman ruins was the best part. For the art collection I have mixed feelings. Mixing medieval and modern art is interesting, but what is the point?

Unique museum, fascinating architecture. The chapel is a work of art in itself, with a modern and elegant view on the pious spirit, wonderfully integrated in the cultural complex of Kolumba. The Alphabet of Art exhibition was exhilarating and complex. I wish the brochure on the works on display were also available in other languages in addition to German.

This was a great museum and I was surprised with the enclosed Roman remains with an excellent viewing platform with that lovely rose wood furnishing. I also enjoyed the floors above and would love to come back. Be Careful when you come in, I hurt myself on the door handles that come out a lot with sharp edges because I was saying hi to the greeter/security guard.

Exceptional architecture and setting for this niche museum. It has a real character, range and vision, but you will need the English show guide unless your German can cope with the artworld and historic essays. Google translate had a hard time! The interior is minimal but luscious, and the excavated/preserved church foundations are incredible and really well presented. The exhibition was a mix of photography, video, post-modern exploration and ancient manuscripts and diptychs. This is one of my favourite exhibition spaces.

Amazing museum, well worth a visit, I especially found the excavations on the ground floor really nicely presented and set up for visitors. There are several floors, so much to see , also nice to see the reading room they have set apart as the guidebook is a very extensive read. Staff very helpful & friendly at reception.

the building itself is a fascinating hybrid of medieval church and modern building. this accurately reflects the nature of the art inside, both centuries old religious art and modern art appearing alongside each other. this makes for a very unique and evocative visiting experience.

It was an amazing view. And a little bit quiet when we arrived there tbh for a tourist spot. You will also see a souvenir shop with small dwarves and christmas decorations. They are nice. The monuments are also pretty.

The Jan von Werth Fountain at the Alter Markt in Cologne is an attraction worth seeing and steeped in history. It is reminiscent of the tragic love story of the cavalry general Jan von Werth and his childhood sweetheart Griet legend that is closely linked to Cologne's history. Quite nice! I came here on a stopover and thought I'd do a spot of sketching. Spent a nice bit of time in a cafe, listened to a talented busker, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I love the old market — it somehow gives me Italian vibes! On weekends, it’s bustling with people, and you can try different Kölsch beers at various spots, each with its own unique taste.

One of the most famous landmarks of the city of Cologne, the three little coloured houses with St. Martin church on the background make for the perfect postcard picture. You can enjoy the view while walking along the Rhine, which is itself a nice activity in Cologne.

Quite impressive at the southwest riverbank of Rhine. Very nice view, beautiful cafes and restaurants along the riverbank. Recommended instead of spending time in the inner part of Cologne. It is a more picturesque scenery with options for boat trips nearby.

The old fish market is one of those updated old markets filled with bars, cafes and restaurants. There's several attractions around the Fischmarkt, such as Frankenwerft, the many bridges across the river, the river cruises, or you could just sit by the riverfront and enjoy a drink or meal. A bit touristy, but a nice walk is right opposite the fish market.

A nice place to take a stroll and escape the crowds gathering at the Christmas Markets. Nice view and surprisingly not to windy nor cold! :)

It's not the fish market anymore. It is one of the few remaining parts of Cologne dated back the Middle Ages not far from the beautiful Romanesque St. Martin Church. There are many interesting and colourful old town houses date back to between the 14th and 17th Centuries. The modern day fish market is a charming blend of inns and pubs. Cologne was bombed during The Second World War, fortunately those charming Gothic buildings were not affected. But the church above them was.. It's a large Plaza, fountain, Rhine River, the bridges are viewable.
