Park
Rheinpark, a sprawling 40-hectare urban oasis nestled along the right bank of the Rhine River in Cologne, is a must-visit destination for travelers. This historic park, established in the early 20th century and designated as a landmark, offers an array of attractions to suit every interest. From fountains and playgrounds to scenic jogging trails and picturesque picnic spots by the water's edge, Rheinpark enchants visitors with its natural beauty and rich history.
Great place for a day out, limited free parking, Toilets river view, kids area, cable car, kids train, picnic fun skating ramps
Ishwar L — Google review
Very big and green park, great for families. There is a play area for kids and a steam train for kids. There is a nice cafe in the park which also allows for WC for 50 cents. The cafe surroundings are well maintained with pretty flower beds. The park has a nice view of the Rhein river overlooking the Cologne Cathedral. Pretty sunset view. Its a shame that the green grass lawn of the park was full of dog poo and we had to be very careful on grass not to stamp it. Overall the park is nice and its worth visiting it.

Rheinpark Cologne is an absolute gem! This sprawling park offers something for everyone and is a must-visit when in Cologne. The views across the Rhine River towards the Cologne Cathedral and the old city are simply breathtaking – perfect for photos or just soaking in the scenery. What I loved most was the sheer variety of things to do. You can take leisurely strolls or bike rides along the well-maintained paths, enjoy a picnic on the expansive lawns, or simply relax and watch the boats go by. There are also dedicated areas for sports, including beach volleyball courts and skate parks, making it a great place for active individuals. For families, Rheinpark is fantastic. There are multiple playgrounds that cater to different age groups, keeping the little ones entertained for hours. The miniature railway is also a delightful experience for children (and adults!). The park is beautifully landscaped with vibrant flowerbeds, mature trees providing ample shade, and even a Japanese garden offering a tranquil escape. It's clear that a lot of care and attention goes into maintaining this space. Throughout the year, Rheinpark also hosts various events and festivals, adding to its appeal. Even on a regular day, the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. Accessibility is also a strong point, with plenty of entrances and good public transport links. Overall, Rheinpark Cologne is a fantastic urban oasis that provides a welcome respite from the city bustle. Whether you're a local or a tourist, spending time in this park is a truly enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Nestled in the heart of Cologne, the Cologne Zoological Garden is a historic gem that has been captivating visitors since its establishment in 1860. This long-standing zoo boasts an impressive collection of over 10,000 animals representing more than 850 species. Among its many attractions are a stunning elephant park—the largest in Northern Europe—an engaging aquarium, and a lush rainforest house that transports you to exotic locales.
What a lovely day out with great friends! Weather was cooperating and most of the animals were out and about! Some we did not see because they were hiding or somewhere else but there was still plenty others to see. We loved the dinosaurs too! Stopped by the restaurant for some lunch which was also very nice. Lots of bees/wasps flying around while we were seated eating, so maybe not a great place if you are allergic, but otherwise really nice. Bathrooms were easy to find and it was easy getting in and out. Loved how playful the others were being! Thank you from the US!!
Heather ( — Google review
The 165th anniversary of Cologne Zoo is celebrated with evergreen content: dinosaurs. But also with a Panini sticker album. So, if you want to give your children a treat, buy the Dino kombi ticket with the sticker album. Do so online to jump the queue on site. I highly recommend to also book the Dino VR experience in advance - it is a ten minute visual aid (in coop with local VR hero TimeRide) and adds to the animatronics dinos scattered throughout the park. Otherwise, the 14 dinos add a nice distraction to the regular inhabitants of the lovely zoo. Some are animated, others really huge. One of the oldest zoos of Germany sports some nice attractions but also undergoes some considerable refurbishments. Some areas are closed off, others are currently under construction (giraffe house). But some historic buildings (old elephant house) surely add to the flavor. We paid €98 for two adults and 2 kids. So plan to bring your healthy snacks and drinks with you, otherwise better top up your Amex ;)

Although zoos are not my favorite place to travel, this zoo surprised me. Animal rights were relatively respected and different and rare animals were collected in this zoo. I saw the Iranian cheetah, an endangered animal, for the first time in this zoo. It was a completely different experience from the zoos I had seen in Asia and Europe. I had it here.
Arash R — Google review
An incredibly expansive and intricate zoo, with an insane amount of different areas and habitats to visit. Definitely reserve at least a few hours to complete a full loop of the zoo! I've never seen so many of certain animals before, namely the meerkats. Gate staff are also super friendly and speak English which makes it easy.
Perth2Go A — Google review
Wonderful zoo and perfect size to walk around and see everything. My children loved the feeding sessions for the seals and otters and we really enjoyed our day. The animals are looked after well and I would come again and recommend to family and friends.
Diva H — Google review
Have been there again after a long time, it seems most animals kept well, they have more space now and look ok. Only the see through pool of the hippopotamus had an eco problem and was very cloudy, which was why they weren't fed for the public. The ant eater looked bored and moved repetitive. I liked the space of the cheetah which looked very natural. Entrance is expansive, but if you buy tickets online you get a daily free ticket for public transport
Jasmin G — Google review
The Cologne Zoo is very small. The elephant house and fake dinosaurs take up most of the space. The zoo is a dreary, bleak, and absolutely ugly place, captivating depressed animals. It's truly awful, giving an abandoned desolated and apocalyptic area. Anyone who doesn't feel pity for them probably won't feel anything else either. Every enclosure is super tiny. A lot of animals were also not there. The tropical house was closed, as well as every snack bars except one.. on a weekend.
Nini — Google review
An exceptional zoo experience! The enclosures are spacious and well-maintained, with a great variety of animals from around the world. Highlights included the elephant park, rainforest house, and impressive aquarium. The layout is easy to navigate, with plenty of shaded areas and rest spots. Educational, family-friendly, and clearly committed to conservation—highly recommended for visitors of all ages!

Gardens
Nestled near the Cologne Zoo, Flora und Botanischer Garten Köln is a stunning botanical garden that spans over 11.5 hectares, showcasing an impressive array of more than 10,000 plant species from various climatic zones. Established in the mid-19th century, this lush oasis features magnificent trees and vibrant flower borders that create a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls. Visitors can explore enchanting glasshouses filled with exotic plants and enjoy tranquil ponds adorned with fountains.
Went to The Botanical Gardens on our last day as a chill experience. Used public transport to get there from the centre of Cologne and the trip was quick and efficient. The gardens are free to entry and are a brief walk away from the train terminal. You need to walk between the Zoo and Aquarium, this makes it a interesting excursion as you could also factor these in on your visit. The gardens themselves were well maintained and beautiful. There are plenty of benches around for you to sit on to take in the beauty of the area. On our visit the cafe/bar wasn't open so would advise to bring some drinks/snacks with you depending on how long you intend to explore. There are a couple of toilets around the site which cost 50 cents, these are clean and well maintained.

What a place! Huge park with an extraordinary amount of plants from all over the world. Beautifully taken care of. The flowers looked marvelous even in the August heat. A very calm place in the heart of a busy metropolis, I highly recommend it!
Nery B — Google review
What an amazing spacious garden. It was quite a walk from the Cologne’s Cathedral but it was really worth it. The leaves were changing color and you can see just how pretty and lively the colors are. I could spend a whole day just chilling and enjoying the nature here. Shame the greenhouse was under renovation so I couldn’t get in but I’d love to one day come back during summer and see how green and amazing the flowers look like.
Cita W — Google review
A truly peaceful and enjoyable place, definitely worth a visit in Cologne. Entrance is free, and you’ll find plants, flowers, and trees from all around the world. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with plenty of benches where you can sit, read a book, study, or simply relax and enjoy nature. The Café Restaurant inside the garden is also worth a stop, offering tasty dishes and interesting presentations that make the visit even more delightful. The only downside was that many of the indoor greenhouses were closed for renovation. Hopefully, they will reopen soon, which will make the experience even better. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a calm and refreshing break surrounded by nature. 🌿✨
Pinar K — Google review
Lovely botanical garden to walk around. The garden has different areas so you can see the tropical plants in the hot houses (though they aren't open to enter yet), the formal planted area, and more foresty areas. There are also some nice fountains and a cafe with a big outdoor terrace. There is no charge to enter the gardens. From the tram station you can walk through the outside of the zoo to get there.
Sam M — Google review
This is a beautiful garden that is peaceful and perfect for a breath of fresh air and nature. There are essentially no tourists. There are tons of flowers ans trees with short descriptions about each plant's breed and original.
Eva S — Google review
Very nice peaceful place for a walk toilets are free near the main building and the ones around the grounds you have to pay for. The fountains give a nice refreshing atmosphere on a hot day.

Beautiful peaceful place, very calming atmosphere and amazing flowers around. There are plenty of quiet places to sit and enjoy nature. Highly recommended! The entrance is free, the park is open till 9pm during June -July.

Museums
The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud stands as the oldest museum in Cologne, showcasing a remarkable array of European art from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century. Established through the vision of Ferdinand Franz Wallraf and later supported by merchant Johann Heinrich Richartz, this cultural gem spans three floors, each dedicated to different artistic periods.
I absolutely loved this museum! I wasn’t expecting to see such an incredible variety of art—from Picasso and Van Gogh to Renoir and many others. As someone who adores art history, this was a wonderful and surprising experience. The only downside was the staff at the coat check—unfriendly, rude, and surprisingly, they didn’t speak proper German. On the other hand, the two older German ladies at the information desk were very kind and helpful. Despite the negative experience with some of the staff, the museum still deserves 5 stars for its outstanding art collection.
Sava F — Google review
The wonderful exhibition of Impressionist paintings at this museum is further enhanced by additional paintings on loan from the Museum Langmatt, Switzerland, but only until 27 July. An unmissable opportunity if you are an art lover!
Catherine S — Google review
What a lovely museum; both its architecture and its collections, they are all breathtaking… The Wallraf–Richartz Museum is an art gallery with a collection of fine art from the medieval period to the early 20th century… The museum includes a Gothic collection, a Renaissance collection, a Baroque collection and an Impressionist collection… Highlights of the permanent exhibition include artworks by such masters as Rubens, Rembrandt, and Monet… The name of the museum reflects the original collection's owner and the owner of the first building where it was displayed. It is highly regarded as one of Europe's most significant art museums… It has diverse collection, which includes extensive holdings… The museum's architecture and human circulating galleries are excellently contributing to a positive experience… It boasts a vast collection spanning various artistic movements… You can expect to see works by iconic artists… The museum is well-organized and thoughtfully presents exhibitions, offering a mix of established masterpieces and cutting-edge contemporary works… The building's architecture, including its spacious galleries and stairs is enhancing the overall viewing experience… Situated near the Cologne Cathedral, railway station and the bridge: the museum's location is very very convenient… Wallraf–Richartz Museum is a high-quality art institution that offers a rewarding experience…
Bilge S — Google review
I spent a happy day at this immaculate and inspiring museum, fortified by visits to the cafe for elevenses and then a delicious lunch. There are 3 main floors - Medieval, Baroque and 19th Century - with excellent information in each room, in English as well as German, and I learnt such a lot about the painting techniques and historical context. The altarpiece room, which I happened to have to myself, is glorious.
Judith S — Google review
We went spontaneously an hour before closing and received a discount, allowing us in for only 4,5€! It’s a spacious museum with 3 floors, every floor having a different times in history reflected in the art, would go again! Perfect rainy day activity
Laura — Google review
A nice collection, though some paintings could do with more information next to it
Collin B — Google review
Wonderfully presented museum on 5 floors (top floor closed when I visited). There are 3 gallery floors, one each dedicated to the Medieval, Baroque & 19th Century collections. The 19th Century ( basement floor) is good with 3 Casper David Friedrich pieces, and a smattering of pieces by Corot, Lieberman, Manet, Monet, Gaughin & Van Gogh. Each floor is divided into thematic rooms, relevant to the weather and this works brilliantly on the Baroque and Medieval floors where themes like flowers & passion( Baroque) are explained with detailed signage in German & English. I've always struggled with the Baroque in painting, but here the story is so well told that it grips you & I learned a lot. It's particularly strong on northern European painting, so lots of Rubens, Van Steen & Rembrandt. Likewise with the Medieval floor. There is a coherent story being told and the collection is much more coherent than say The National Gallery in London. The Cologne School of artists and the legends of St Ursula ( patron saint of Cologne) were particularly impressive. It has a very good gift shop and cafe and I was amazed at how few visitors were there as it is a first rate museum
Andy A — Google review
The exhibition of impressionists from the Swiss collection was a pleasant surprise. Especially Renoir. And especially the portrait of a girl in pink. An unusual color for artists. In addition, the museum has its own collection of paintings. Three floors of the museum are filled with interesting exhibits on history and culture.

Aachener Weiher is a popular park in Cologne, located near the university and surrounded by the trendy Belgian quarter and upscale Lindenthal district. It's a favorite hangout for students and locals, drawing crowds for its large green spaces, manmade pond, and views of the TV Tower. The park is bustling with activities such as barbecues, sunbathing, jogging, dog walking, and sports.
Very nice place to chill on the grass or bench. Also really nice spot for running I guess, see a lot of people. When the weather is good it is really full here. Also some ducks and swans are here . Don’t take your best shoes, they are making little bit mess there. I like to coming back, one of my favourite parks here.

One of the best places in the city for a sunny beer by some water. There are kiosks near by if you want to BYO and sit on the grass but in the warmer months there is a small Bier Garten, however, they often have a lot of customers for not enough staff so sometimes the wait times can be a little long

Stadtgarten is a public park in Cologne, Germany, known for its historical significance and natural beauty. It's a popular spot for families with children to visit, so visitors are encouraged to keep the area clean and safe. The park offers a serene escape from the bustling Christmas markets in Cologne, where visitors can enjoy mulled wine and festive treats. While some find the markets crowded and pricey, others appreciate the beautiful atmosphere despite the higher costs.

(Translated by Google) Even though various ICE, passenger and freight trains pass the city park, it is a very nice place to switch off. Hearing the many birds singing - even if the parakeets are quite present there - and seeing the visitors with their furry friends spreads joy. The park is beautifully decorated with flowers, which unfortunately were slowly fading at the time and new flowers will certainly bloom soon, which is a feast for the eyes. Far away from street noise, it's the right place to unwind in the sunshine. 😀

Unforgettable Family Day at Phantasialand! We had an amazing time at Phantasialand on our family day! Everything was incredibly well organized from start to finish. The staff were all super friendly, helpful, and made us feel welcome everywhere we went. The food and drinks were not only delicious, but also very reasonably priced — a pleasant surprise for a theme park! We really appreciated the variety and quality without having to spend a fortune. Another big plus: the facilities were spotless. The restrooms were clean throughout the day, which made the experience even more comfortable for our whole family. All in all, Phantasialand offered a fantastic day out with top-notch organization, great value, and lots of fun for all ages. We’ll definitely be back!

It's a nice enough place. It's clean, in terms of no visible grime on things, but the air is filthy with cigarette smoke. The rides are long, with queues to match. I found myself exiting rides, feeling nauseous already, only to walk into a wall of toxic smoke making me feel disgusting. The only place you can go to escape it is the queue of another ride, so that's what we did. The food is on the expensive side, but there are cheaper options and we took our own snacks to supplement. Recommend doing this if cost is a concern. A number of rides were closed on our visit but the ones we did go on were good, well managed, no technical difficulties. We didn't check our small bags and they were fine to be stored while we went on most rides. Agree that the shuttle bus feels like a scam. €5 for a return trip when you have to wait 30 min for it feels excessive. I tried it, I didn't vomit, I probably wouldn't return.
Kath A — Google review
An incredible visit. Visited on a weekday in September. Queue times were great (aside from a peak, late morning). Unbelievable theming, ride offering, attention to detail and theming. Great food offering (high quality, loads of choice and not overly expensive). Staff were great too. The *only* downside for me is that this is definitely a park of ‘two halves’. The ‘Fantasy’ area is super dated and uninteresting. Really hoping that this area is high up on their plans for a total overhaul, as there is so much land here. The other lands are insanely good. Can’t wait to see what the future looks like for this amazing park.

Great experience, amazing times. We did spend whole day over there. Waiting time for ride was reasonable. Place was clean, staff friendly and travel from Cologne was good. I would be back for sure.

I love visiting theme park and I was intrigued by Phantasialand for a while but I was hesitant because this park has mostly thrill rides and I'm really not into it. However my Husband's is a huge fan of thrill rides so stopped for a day. I was positively surprised by the beauty of the park. The decor are really amazing and well made. I loved the vintage Germany area and the fantasy land. But everything was really gorgeous! It's immersive, well maintained and magical. My favorite ride was Maus au Chocolat which was fun and the decor were really nice. Also Geisterishka even though it's quite outdated now, I liked it. The carousel and the monorail were also pleasant. But as someone who is not into thrill rides I can sometimes be a bit bored. Thankfully the park is nice to walk around, have a sit to relax or watch a show. It was enough for a day however and I couldn't have stayed more unfortunately. I hope that in the future, more dark rides will come as it's something that's really missing here. Other than that, for the quality and the price I can't complain. This is one of the best park in Europe and I wonder why it's not more known. The park is beautiful, they care for details and they maintained it very well compare to other (more popular) parks in Europe. I will definitely come back again if I visit the area.

People are smoking all over the place. This part was a huge dissapointment. The Uhrwerk restaurant employees didnt speak English which should be a basic requirement for anyone working there. We ended up in the China parking where the spaces between the two rows were very very narrow. The whole parking should be re-planned. Overall, it is a nice park, nothing stands out in terms of extreme. It is a nice family park with family friendly attractions. The app is rubbish and the developers seems to be stupid for missing basic things like different languages…!? The price is too high for what you get. Better to go to Toverland or Efteling for cheaper, better, more organised and overall better value for your money.

It was great fun day, amusement offers a lot of rides for everyone although the famous rides takes a long queue esp if youre there on a weekend it is best to be there early so you have time if you plan on trying all the rides. There are variety of Food offer from kiosks to restaurant. I enjoyed the show performers were amazing.

Unlike traditional spas, this facility caters to families with its array of thrilling attractions. From seven exciting slides, including a looping slide and wild water ride, to a misty ice grotto and expansive sauna area with a Zen garden, there's something for everyone.
Aqualand in Klon is a fantastic waterpark, especially for families with children. It offers a wide range of attractions and activities suitable for all ages, ensuring a full day of fun and excitement. The park is well-maintained, clean, and organized, with friendly staff and good safety measures in place. Weekends tend to be busier and slightly more expensive, but the lively atmosphere adds to the overall experience. The on-site restaurants serve a nice variety of food and drinks, catering to different tastes. Parking is convenient with plenty of space, though visitors may face short waits at the entrance during peak hours. Overall, it’s a great destination for a refreshing and enjoyable day out.

Slides are cool, everything else isn't. For 31€ I expected a lot more. Partially it's on me for entertaining the idea of going to a water park which allows kids. Great for anyone with kids (probably), absolutely sucks otherwise. Everything is absolutely overcrowded, kids are jumping and splashing water everywhere, and while it is not the Parks fault it is an undeniable fact you will regret once you come here. 10 minutes in I was already contemplating leaving simply due to the lack of space for personal items like the towel or flip flops. If you're anything but a family with children stay far away. Absolutely not worth it. Peace and quiet enjoyment is not what you will get here. Slides are pretty cool and the waiting time isn't horrible, which is why I rated this with 2 stars.
Borniuus — Google review
Has some pretty good slides, but extremely demotivated employees (I have no idea why the 2 employees at the top of the slide towers receive a salary, they are 100% distracted by their phones with headphones in and don't notice anything that happens around them). Also, in the main hall was a pretty disgusting, sweet chemical smell that I never encountered anywhere before, and the giant screen in the maimn swimming area plays loud music and advertisement which is awful.
Alex J — Google review
Prices are on the higher side. A big Parking space is available. There are 4-5 slides, a jacuzzi, and a cold water jacuzzi. A park for a Sun bath. Only worth a one time visit. Overall a decent place to visit
B S — Google review
The water is warm enough in most of the pools, which makes it very much enjoyable even for the little ones. The slides jungle area is nice for the little ones. There's another area for the small ones too. Then there are also the big slides, where even my 5 years old was allowed to slide together with me of course. Great fun those slides! The restaurant food was decent, we had snitzels. All in all it's a great place to go to with children and one could easily spend a whole afternoon there and not get bored.
Claudia B — Google review
A nice bad to visit with friends or family. Different kinds of baths around the place and slides. There's also a place for spa treatment when you needed (additional costs) .. bar in the swimming pool.. majority of payment goes via a special watch you get from the service employer. Me and my friends/family had a great time here.
Erik — Google review
Recently went, and had a great time in the sauna. The infusions made the trip worth it. If I am around the area again, I'll definitely go back.
Kurt G — Google review
Could be good if it was run well, but it isn't. It's the worst run water park I've visited so far. Also, who thought putting up a giant screen that sometimes loudly plays advertisment across the entire bath would be anything other than a straight path to bankruptcy?

We weren’t sure what to expect when we arrived, but it turned out to be an incredible place. Watching animals move freely in a large area and interact with people was a delightful experience. Best place to go with your family, many sitting areas to watch around.

Visiting this garden was a refreshing and peaceful experience. The landscape was thoughtfully designed, with a vibrant array of flowers, well-maintained paths, and shaded seating areas that invited relaxation. The variety of plants and the care taken in their arrangement created a stunning visual harmony. Birds and butterflies added a touch of liveliness, enhancing the natural charm of the place. Whether for a morning walk, a peaceful afternoon, or simply a break from the bustle of daily life, this garden offers a perfect escape into nature.

I was here 50 minutes before close time. I recommend to come around this time because it was not so full. I believe during the day it is full. A lot of place for sitting and watching animals. Mostly sheeps and goats etc. You can feed them full cup costs 1€. Entry is free. Not so big park. Anyway very nice experience for those who like animals.

Beautiful park with lot's to do. Go for a nice quiet walk, walk your dog, don't forget to check the animals! Children will love the playground there, especially in hot days it's the perfect place to go, not that hot under the big trees. There is a big lake with water paddle boats.

Large tranquil park with animals and park for kids to stay entertained. We went on Saturday morning and they had food, drink and flower stands at the entrance of the park. Some of the animals are free to roam the enclosed area which was nice for the kids to be able to get close up. Added bonus was that it was free. You can buy food for the animals for €1 at feeding stations. There was a small playground with quite a few activities.

Beautiful "forest", or should I say park. Spacious and gracefully green. Nice combination coniferous and deciduous trees, there's water and a skate park. What more can a person need. Also, it's so much more relaxed than the more central parks in Köln. 10/10 would longboard with dog again

Wow this place is very beautiful, its an unique experience to spend time in nature and with free running animals. Living condition of animals is way betterthan a zoo, they have a pretty big area. One can feed animals and the food can be bought from the vending machines there. Kids would definitely love them. Its also good to walk along in the nature. There is a play area for kids around the corner. Definitely worth going there if you are in Cologne and a nature lover.

The culinary scene is equally enticing; don't miss out on savoring local specialties such as Himmel und Erde paired with a refreshing Kölsch beer.

We had a room with a balcony called the penthouse. The place is old, and the renovation is outdated, but it’s comfortable. There was one large bed for two people and two single beds on the second level. The room cost 133 euros. It’s a decent option just to stay for one or two nights for 3-4 people. The room is right in the city center with a view of the church.

Booked through booking.com and was confirmed for a 2 bedroom apartment. When we checked in they showed us to a one bedroom apartment on a higher floor than we were originally told. They didn’t offer a refund and couldn’t accommodate us so we had to find somewhere else to stay last minute (I was traveling with a 1 year old and my father in his 60’s). Now they are trying to say we never showed up so they don’t have to refund us. This business lies, has no empathy, and I would advise anyone to find a different place to stay.

(Translated by Google) We were 5 people. We were given apartment D, with two keys. Which is good with such a number of guests! The apartment is very centrally located, right on a party street in Cologne, so it is very loud. There are three sleeping areas. The front sleeping area is on the party mile side, so it is particularly loud there. If the owners replaced the windows here and installed good sound windows, you would hardly hear anything at all. Which would make the property even more attractive. We bought earplugs the next day and were able to sleep without any noise pollution. According to others, the back rooms are quieter. Since it is an old building, the parquet floor creaks and you can hear the neighbors walking from above and in the stairwell. The beds and the small bathroom were completely fine. The apartment just needs to be dusted more regularly. There were also a few sockets without covers, which may need to be retrofitted here for safety reasons. When we arrived there were towels on the beds, which was another plus. According to previous reviews, I didn't see any mice in the apartment. There were also pest repellers placed in the rooms. But honestly, the building is old and drunk people just throw their food on the floor outside, how can mice not come? But like I said, I didn't see a mouse in the room. If the windows were to be replaced solidly, I can recommend accommodation D to everyone. It is very central, the subway and tram are less than 200m away, and you are surrounded by restaurants and pubs. Attention, no parking because, as I said, it's a party mile. There is only a dead end in front of the town hall where you could unload your luggage to be closer to the apartment. AND the check-in is not directly on site, but a few meters away in another hotel. Another tip for the owners: with an ozone device you can get rid of all unpleasant odors and bacteria in a room. Great device and cheap to buy. Cheaper than new windows :-) (Original) Wir waren 5 Personen.

Nestled in the heart of Cologne, Gaffel am Dom - Brauhaus is a charming traditional eatery that captures the essence of German hospitality. With its inviting garden terrace and vibrant atmosphere often enhanced by live music, this establishment is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in regional delicacies.
The minute we arrived at Cologne station at about10.30am we were looking for food. We decided to get some light bites since it is a bit too early for lunch in this restaurant right opposite the station and ordered some small bites and appertizers as well as drinks. Is our first German food experience and we like it. I believe the place is popular for lunch as it gets more crowded later on.

Very solid experience at this Brauhaus. I went twice on my trip and the food was great both times. A delicious (and huge) grilled pork knuckle; very flavorful and melt-in-your mouth Himmel und Ääd (blood sausage with buttery mash and chunky apple sauce). Taking a point off for the service, which was mixed. When I went in the evening, the server was quite amiable and spoke some English and tried to be helpful. When I went at lunchtime the server was curt, didn’t speak much at all, and had an attitude like he’d rather be doing anything than serving you (and this at 11:30am around opening!) I think with a bit of server training and accountability, this restaurant could be one of the best in the Dom area.

Strategic place to have a restaurant. Right in front of the cathedral. Is a casual vibe, and I didn’t order something big. But the meatball and the pretzel were good. The service was great. The young lady with the ponytails was extremely nice and helped me choose something to eat.
Heidy T — Google review
Busy and vibrant restaurants with a very convenient location to the Cologne Cathedral. Food was good. Seemed a bit touristy (we were tourists and eating there so not in a bad way.) so if you’re looking for a more local vibe check elsewhere.
Samantha R — Google review
Absolutely loved it here. We sat outside overlooked by the cathedral soaking up the sun but there was also plenty of seating indoors if you preferred that. The staff here were great and very quick to keep your glass topped up which we liked probably a bit too much but the beer was incredible. Although we didn’t have food, plenty round us did and it looked decent. We had several visits here so definitely one of the better bars in the city centre!!
Andy D — Google review
The best food experience we had in Cologne thanks to delicious food, excellent service and great view over Cologne’s largest ( literally) attraction: Cologne cathedral. We wanted to try local dishes and here was almost everything to be found except for Rheinischen Sauerbraten which we found at another restaurant with less good service. Let’s talk about Gaffel am Dom service. We had this charming waiter who was fast, efficient, firm with do and don’ts - always with a smile and humorous attitude. We like the straight forward attitude that is efficient and no fuss. Especially when packaged with a smile and a gentle hand such as this guy. The routine of refilling Kölsch went smoothly and we just love how refreshing and easily the beer slips down the throat. Served in small glasses it never had a chance of getting lukewarm.
Alexandra S — Google review
As soon as you take your last sip of Kölsch, a fresh one appears right away! The fastest service ever. The schnitzel with pepper sauce was also great.
Thomas O — Google review
Pleasant atmosphere. Service was okay and beer was really good. I didn’t really like the food I had schnitzel with fries and salad. Schnitzel was not good and the texture was kind of gross, the fries were alright but I didn’t get any sauce tho, salad was fine. But what makes me not want to come back is the fact that I have seen a mouse…

Sculpture Park Cologne is a large park featuring contemporary sculptures set amidst old trees, with the collection changing annually. It's located near the Rhine and offers free entry. The park showcases extravagant modern art sculptures by renowned artists like Anish Kapoor. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll or relax on the grass while admiring the artwork. Despite being surrounded by busy roads, it provides a serene environment to marvel at these stunning creations.
A pleasant little park with some nice sculptures. It was a peaceful location, clean and well kept. I rushed around d it in less than 15-minutes but it really warranted a slower pace. There is a cafe next door (western side near the river) too. If you can get to the park I recommend fitting it into your schedule. I cycled there from the main bahnhof in 12 minutes.
Jamie B — Google review
Nice inner city green space featuring modern art. Clean area with a walk around the exhibits, however some of these were decommissioned, probably due to the early time in the season. Worth a visit all the same.
Paul — Google review
A great free art space. We were the only visitors at the start of our trip. Staff were mowing the grass to keep the area tidy. Lovely to freely experience some great art.
Vicki H — Google review
Despite some bad reviews about the art quality that some friends and I read here, we bet it would be a good place to visit, then it came over our low expectations! We really enjoyed the park, there’s a lot of interesting artworks to observe. If you are into art we consider a must go!

I was sceptical about a sculpture park, but I'm really glad we went. If you don't like one of them, you'll like the next. Plenty to look at. I think you should go.

Interesting sculpture park. In some cases the question “but is it art” is justified, but it is both interesting and entertaining, so worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Wonderful outdoor space with large and some small scale sculptures for viewing. Perfect spot to relax and enjoy some art or peacefulness while being surrounded by culture. One missing element would be some benches to sit but instead bring a blanket and relax on the grass.

Charming small park situated on a gentle hill, with short, tree-lined paths and beautifully maintained rose gardens. Scattered with a few steel benches perfect for a moment of relaxation, this peaceful spot is clean and usually quiet, offering a tranquil escape from the city's bustle. Located slightly off the main path, it’s a lovely stop during a stroll.

It’s a quiet park with different areas, a fort and a rose garden. Maybe it’s a bit off the beaten track, but if you have some time left before leaving Köln, it’s nice to take a break from the city hustle and bustle, reach the river promenade and then back to the centre. On the way to the river you can even stop at a sculpture park.

Very good doner, the personal is good and nice, take time to tell you the food and everything, fast for the doner, lots of salad and meat, great price for the meal 👍🤗

We ordered the Djudje Filet and Kubideh Kebab, but unfortunately, they did not meet our expectations. The Djudje consisted of just five small pieces of chicken, which was disappointing. As for the Koobideh, the onion-to-meat ratio was noticeably off, affecting the flavor balance. The staff were friendly. I would rate the experience 3 out of 5 at most.
Golnaz R — Google review
I found this wonderful kebab shop near my hotel, I was in desperate need of comfort food which for me means Persian food... I ordered a djudjeh kebab with rice and salad which was cooked to perfection. I am not a German speaker and was visiting the area on business, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I will definitely visit again if I have the opportunity.

One of the best Döner I have had in Cologne. The decor is very ordinary, the shop a little chaotic and the tables wonky, but the food is certainly worth a visit.
Thomas M — Google review
Great place to have a classic German Döner Kebap or Dürum. The Döner was 6.50€ when I visited (Dürum was 7.50€). You can choose between Kalb (a mixture of veal and ground meat) or Hühnchen (chicken); further between different sauces like tzatziki, scharf (hot), gyros or samourai. I just went with a chicken one with tzatziki and hot sauce… and all dressed. The lettuce, tomatoes and onion slices were fresh and it was directly prepared. Service is very friendly and quick.

|Only Döner Review| First impression staff is friendly, place is clean & hygiene. I ordered a Döner 🥙 the meat taste is just average, salad seems to be not so fresh but okay too. Sauce (Krauter) is really sour ! I couldn’t even eat like that.. I literally need to take it off and have to eat the rest of Döner. I don’t understand how much everyone rated 5 for Döner! Im sure they just don’t change the taste of sauces. Only recommend for late night street food ! No need to go here just to try a different Döner :)

Park
Beethoven Park, located in the heart of Cologne, is a sprawling 40-hectare natural landscape park with a rich history. Originally planned in 1924 to add greenery to the city, it features walking and cycling paths, a kids' playground, BBQ area, and even winter sledding. The park offers diverse scenery including a pond and sculptures. It was built on the site of a former gravel pit filled with debris from World War II.
Beethovenpark is an approximately 40 hectare big natural landscape park located Southwest in Cologne in the district of Sülz. Beethovenpark was planned in 1924 to give Cologne a greener and fresher look and finished 3 years later. It was built on an area of a former gravel pit, that was raised by debris from World War 2, which was also utilized to created the „Pilzberg“ hill on the east side of the park. While there are forrest like areas on the east and west side of the park, there is a big green meadow left out in the middle, which is great for sports, sunbathing or having a picnic in the warmer seasons. The slope of „Pilzberg“ was left without trees, so you have a great view over the park from there and it can be used for sledging in winter or to ride down your mountainbike in summer at least if you take care that you don’t collide with pedestrians on the foot of that slope. Beethovenpark is in my opinion one of the nicest parks in Cologne, even though it is missing a lake. It’s a great place just to take your dog to, go for a walk or jogging or to chill with your friends (at least in non-covid times), when the weather is good. Beethovenpark is not a great park for cycling I think, because a central flat paved cycling path is missing, which I could imagine to connect Klettenbergpark in the east with Äußerer Grüngürtel and Decksteiner Weiher in the periphery, which would make Sülz a lot more attractive to cyclists, who have to share the streets with cars or come in the way of pedestrians in the parks currently. This is probably not an option though as the park is a landscape protected area. As I am writing this in 2021 covid times having a picnic is unfortunately prohibited right now. Also stargazing at night is not an option due to curfew after 21 o‘clock, which is a bit unfortunate, I think. But I will not take this into account for the rating. All in all I’m very happy to have this park in my neighborhood and give it 5 stars I would still like to mention that there is potential for improvement, like renewing the paths in the periphery, adding of a bike path and maybe having a public freshwater well for drinking somewhere. Also it would be a nicer place, if people could keep the area clean and take their trash or use the trash bins, which should ideally be be emptied regularly or even better on an automated schedule, dependent on fill level. PS: More flowers please. Sources: Wikipedia and Cologne Website If you liked this review and made it until the end, please consider leaving a like, as it helps me to stay motivated writing them.

The beer garden HELLERS Volksgarten in the park is a popular spot for a Kölsch with stunning views of the lake. The beers served here are organic and come from nearby Heller Brewery, which also offers typical German dishes and regularly organizes special events. The view is worth the visit alone, but the friendly staff and delicious food make it even better. Unfortunately, boats access to the lake is currently not operational, but this spot definitely deserves a visit!
The view is stunning, they are super nice and friendly, except the chief who actually raised his voice on us. Everyone else is super nice tho. The food is amazing and they made our night. Unfortunately the boats are not operational right now but it’s a definitely must go to in Cologne.

Nice place to have beer. Good food as well. Nice time to spend afternoon lunch and beer enjoying the view of park and lake Very good waiter
Dr. R — Google review
Place is nice but some things need to be improved: -if the kitchen is closed cos of random problems, customers should be informed before they sit down (put a sign at the entrance). Getting this information when we had already been waiting at the table for a while cos there was only 1 waiter working, and with a hungry child with us, was not correct. Had we known we would have gone somewhere else -beers not full. Its a rip off to order a 500ml beer and it being clearly under 500ml.

Extremely disappointing experience at Hellers. We waited for over 30 minutes just to place our order, and even then, our server seemed disorganized and forgetful. The real kicker was that our food never arrived. We waited for over an hour, asked multiple times for updates, and were eventually told that our order had been 'forgotten.' Unbelievable. The lack of communication, slow service, and failure to deliver on their promise of food made for a frustrating and hungry evening. Unless they revamp their service and kitchen processes, I'd advise others to steer clear."

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Wildlife park Dünnwald is a picturesque forested sanctuary that houses various free-roaming creatures, surrounded by walking paths. This must-see location offers a serene and eco-friendly ambiance, featuring abundant lush foliage. Enhanced by a gentle river stream, the park boasts captivating natural beauty. The area showcases an array of untamed fauna harmoniously coexisting with meticulously crafted wooden structures.
A beautiful and quiet wild park , perfect for a stroll to clear your mind. There are coin machines with food to feed the animals.
Virginia G — Google review
A wild, expansive park in the middle of Cologne — a perfect spot for families with small children to enjoy nature and observe wild animals such as deer and boars. The animals are kept safely behind fences, and there are automatic feeding stations near each enclosure where visitors can buy special treats to feed them. Throughout the park, you’ll also find beautiful wooden sculptures, plenty of benches, and small shelters where you can grab a bite or simply take a moment to rest. There’s a small play area for children too, featuring large tree trunks and small wooden huts designed just for kids to climb, explore, and play in. One downside, however, is that the toilets were closed during the weekend — they are only available on weekdays, which I found quite disappointing. Given that the park is especially popular with families and young children, restroom facilities should ideally be accessible at all times.
MAnA M — Google review
Nice place to go for a walk with your family. It's kid friendly.
Pastor S — Google review
Relaxing way to spend the weekend by having a slow stroll around the park facilities. The park is well kept and has ample parking nearby. It wasn't crowded at all on a Saturday afternoon.

Must visit. So clean, green and calm place. You can walk around and see lots of greenary. There is a small river stream flowing around which makes it more beautiful. You can see lots of wild animals all around the park. There are lots of wood architure as well. You can run around, ride your bicycle, do camping and enjoy nature. Also, entry is free of cost. Must visit!

Rheingarten is a picturesque park area located along the Rhine River in Cologne. It offers scenic walking and cycling paths, making it a popular spot for outdoor activities. One of its main attractions is the stunning view of the Cologne Cathedral, which can be captured in its entirety from this location. The park features a grassy area where visitors can enjoy picnics and relax with friends. Additionally, there is a refreshing water feature that provides relief on hot days, attracting both children and adults.
A nice, relaxing place to take a stroll. Very peaceful and offers great views of some of the famous city landmarks and attractions.

Nice place to stroll and enjoy the evening breeze by the river. You can drink and eat snacks here. It’s busy area but looks beautiful
Vidhya B — Google review
A lovely place to stroll at any time of the day because the major road is underneath the area. It seems the norm to buy your "bottles" at a local kiosk or take a b b q there and have a picnic. There are numerous cafes and restaurants close by. We ate at the Slavic restaurant twice down there. Very good.
Geoff T — Google review
It's a really nice walk, with cool old buildings, the river, and some green space. Watch out for bikes 🚴‍♂💥 😉
Adir A — Google review
It's a public park, a garden if you like, and it's alongside the river Rhine. A great place to relax and people watch or read a book. There's an interesting water feature where youngsters can play. There are several restaurants lining the one side and some small hotels above these. Literally three minutes walk from the Dom.

Stunning location to walk along - with many options to choose from for food and drink. It was lovely. Would definitely recommend. It is right next to the bridge as well where you can walk along, look at the lockets, and go to the other side where there are more places to sit down and watch the world go by
Shannon C — Google review
Apple strudel was fantastic, flakey, not soft. No decaf coffee options, so I went for a small prosecco (€7), which was a good choice. Service was also very good, we sat outside and looked at the river. It might feel a bit expensive, but nowadays all seems so steep and at least you won't regret spending it... It was touch and go, but I would definitely go back and try more.

Tranquil, forested wildlife park with trails & animals such as boar & deer in natural enclosures.
Watching all of the Warthogs run across the river in the morning for food is incredibly cute, something you can watch for hours. Unfortunately, sometimes the deer are hiding. The animals look very well kept and healthy (I'm not a vet). The entire forest is rubbish free, very clean with decorated paths. I love it here, very peaceful.
Danielle — Google review
The Wildhege Brück is a wonderful little park to see swines and deers. The animals are reasonably close to the path giving you a good viewing point but also have the opportunity to hide away and have some privacy. Where the swine park is large the deer park could have been bigger, giving the animals more space to roam. Overall a place for a nice walk in nature. Suited for kids as well.
