Hakone Jinjya Heiwa-no-Torii

An impressive torii gate on the edge of lake Ashi. It is a 15 minutes walk from the pier/bus stop. When you arrive at the gate, some people elect to have their picture taken from distance or with people in the background to avoid waiting. Alternatively, you can queue and then you can have your private time right in front of the torii gate. There are signs to say that you should limit your time to 3 minutes but unfortunately some people do take a bit longer and in the most extreme, there are people that just jump the queue. The Japanese people are too polite to say anything. We visited on a relatively quiet day but we still had to queue for the best part of an hour. I think it was worth it but I don’t think I would do the same next time. It is definitely worth a visit. Recommended.

So beautiful & very easily accessible. It is around a 3 to 5 minute walk from the bus stop and straight forward to get to. The only problem is that once you make it there, there is a huge line. I honestly didn’t expect there to be this long of a wait (I expected a wait, but it was crazy long) - especially given there is a three minute time limit, but I found that most travellers did not honour this. There were also many others who tried to cut the line. I think I ended up waiting over an hour just to take a few photos for around 2 minutes. Love the photos but the wait was crazy. Would highly recommend you go earlier in the morning. 1pm for us was way too late.

The Peace Torii at Lake Yamanaka was a really special stop. You get an amazing view of Mount Fuji framed by the red torii gate, and the place has a calm atmosphere even when a few people are around. We went in the morning, the light was perfect for photos, and the contrast between the lake, the torii, and Fuji in the back is just beautiful. If you're exploring the Yamanakako area, this spot is a must for photos and a quick peaceful break.
