A wonderful open air museum. A great experience walking around through the gardens and enjoying the nature , the art works and the weather. Because the museum is in open air you need to choose for a day with good weather ( not a rainy day ). We especially enjoyed the Picasso Pavilion ! A very clean place and we suggest to spend approx 3 hours for the visit. By the way if you guys are a little bit tired there is a nice cozy coffee shop , with great Italian Coffee , ice cream , soft drinks and sandwiches. A huge parking space on the spot which cost 500 yen - we came by car. A highly recommended place if you are in Hakone. Enjoy !

Wow, wow, wow. They shouldn't call this a museum. It is an art gallery extraordinaire. Beautiful environment, many external installations allow for interaction. The Picasso and other indoor galleries are equally impressive. Child friendly. Lovely places to eat and drink as well as a top class shop. A must visit.

The museum was one of my highlights of a visit to Japan, it is a unique experience with many art pieces in beautiful tranquil surrounds as you wander the gardens with the backdrop of the mountains. There are also some kid friendly areas including the climbing net where many children will spend at least an hour, the maze, and then when tired the pockeT area. Make sure to enjoy the foot Onsen that will rest those weary feet. There is a self serve ticket machine at the entrance so no need to wait in line.

Simply stunning. A lot of thought and effort has gone into making this place special. Loved the mini Picasso museum in the middle. Top tip - try to arrive as close to 9am as possible to avoid the hoards of day trippers coming in from Tokyo

One of the most incredible museums I’ve ever visited! The installations are so huge and fun to walk through. Even on a cold rainy and snowy day we walked the entire grounds and saw each exhibit. There’s a sweet hot foot soak area about mid way through where there is also a gift shop and little cafe. Don’t miss going inside the tower with all the stained glass, it’s other worldly.

There are a couple of ticket machines to the left side of the entrance, if you’d like to skip the line. Overall it’s an interesting outdoor museum. It was nice to walk around even in the rain. The gift shops are also very nice

Fantastic art exhibits, the Picasso building houses a rather large collection of several of his art mediums, easily worth the 2000 yen to see the many outdoor sculptures. A wonderful couple of hours.

Little bit of a climb up the steps, but we'll worth it. There are a few shrines throughout the area, but this is the largest of the bunch. You can go up and make your offerings. Set in the forest, very beautiful. The cedar trees are humongous, just amazing. The parking lot is not that far away. There is also a small path you can follow instead of the steps. It's just so peaceful and scenic, a must stop.

An absolutely beautiful and serene shrine. I loved how the tall trees towered over our heads and the way the green of the forest mixed with the redish orange colors of the shrine. The architecture was simply stunning. And of course the torii gate on the lake is the main celebrity here. Just know that there’s a crazy long line to get a picture with it at all times, some saying it was an hour of waiting. We didn’t wait, we decided to admire the main part of the shrine instead. Don’t forget to get some water from the shrine spring, it’s said to bring good luck.

#throwback2016 Tucked between mistdrenched cedars and the still waters of Lake Ashi, Hakone Jinja feels less like a shrine and more like an accidental portal to Studio Ghibli. The iconic red torii gate, emerging from the lake like a spiritual submarine hatch, is Instagram bait but somehow still sacred. Founded in 757 AD, back when Fuji was still updating her firmware, the shrine once drew samurai warriors seeking divine WiFi before battle. These days, it draws influencers in linen shirts whispering “so zen” before posting a Reel with lofi beats. The walk up through ancient trees is calming except when the fog gets too thick and you start questioning your life choices and the location of your travel group. Bonus: there’s also a side shrine for a nineheaded dragon deity. Because oneheaded dragons are just too basic for Hakone. 1200 years of vibes and foggy drama, blessed. 📸 Tip: Come early morning for mist, mystery, and minimal humans. Otherwise, enjoy the queue to touch a gate.

Definetely a must stop! Regretted not doing the tour around the lake which included seeing so many more Tori gates. Beautiful place to visit and very spiritual.

Beautiful shrine and definitely worth going, however it’s very busy on most days and the wait to take a photo with the tori gate and lake will be around 20-40 minutes

Very busy shrine but in a beautiful area. There are a few trails and small areas off to the side where you can't find some peaceful moments of reflection. The amulet and goshuin areas were very busy but at least efficient. They have a good sized bathroom facility that unfortunately was in pretty rough shape during our visit. While the grounds are beautiful many of the buildings are undergoing some repairs and scaffolding abounds. Overall if you are in Hakone you will visit it is sort of the point but I hope it's not the only shrine you see in Japan.

Enjoy the silence and peacefulness in the Gora Park! Stopped by as part of the Hakone Free Pass and the place didn’t disappoint! Grab a coffee or lemonade and sit down by the fountain, walk in the green house or just wander around - this place is energising and making the hot weather more bearable!

A very well layed out park with French origins. You don’t have to walk miles to see things but there is much to see and enjoy. Like any park or garden it does depend on the seasons as to what you see. The park is in Hakone high up in the hills which creates for a very unique climate and therefore an opportunity to see things which you would not see elsewhere at that time of year. It has a really interesting craft centre, properly organised and run to quite a high level. The shops and restaurants are not tacky in any way or ridiculously expensive. Loved the rose ice cream real value for money especially with the coupon at the entrance! Toilets and other facilities are way up to standard nothing old and just about to break or smelly!! And clean!!! Easy to get to with ample parking areas. Station nearby if needed!

Cute little park with free entrance if you have Hakone freepass. Right next to Hakone open air museum. We had a lovely afternoon tea with a rose theme in one of their cafés.

Small but charming park with many pretty flowers. It is within 5 minute walking distance of the cable car station. Has a ‘treasure box’ with a stamp for children to stamp their books. Closes at 5pm

Rustic park with an old charm. Picturesque location worth visiting if you enjoy gardens and greenery.

One of most beautiful parks. And not only for Hakone. It not requires any additional words. Just come and see... Tea ceremony also recommended to visit.

WOW!!! The sparkles here!! You have to go on a sunny day or at least with the sun peaking through the clouds. The way the light hits the outdoor pieces is UNREAL! Loved all the indoor pieces too. Chihuly is always amazing to see in person. We had just been to Venice about a year earlier and it was so lovely to see it replicated so well here in Hakone! You will not regret exploring this museum, absolutely recommend!

Fabulous museum, both indoors and out. A brilliantly varied mix of static glassware indoors, glass sculptures outside, a concert, and an excellent restaurant (ideal for lunch). I was expecting a tourist trap but was very pleasantly surprised. Whether you're looking for entertainment or just shade and relaxation, you mustn't miss this one.

A museum that displays glass art throughout history. The museum has a spectacular garden and a very large souvenir shop. The place is beautiful and highly recommended for a visit.

We went to this place during the Obon holidays and we completely loved the experience. Despite the poor weather, this place was packed and they had so many exhibitions to explore. Since we were on a time crunch to take our little one back home for his bed time, we were not able to explore everything but we know we will be back again to explore the rest. The restaurant offered a very good food; my favorite was the scone tea set. But I was told that they have a great lunch menu so we will want to try that next time. Live music is the best part of this restaurant. This place will be a great place for couples looking for something different but also for families with different interests.

One of the most recommend place when you visiting Hakone sengokuhara. A lot of beautiful glasses here. You can take a lot pic too. Such an aesthetic place. Also, you can find a delicious bread here...

Not for European Tourist. It’s kinda built like Italy/ Venice in particular. But it’s really not impressing if you know Italian countries or have been in in a glas museum in Europe. Best part is the globe inside 😅 and the price is 1800 yen for adults.

March 2021 An interesting venue to visit when you are in hakone. A variety of different display of glasswork to enjoy. This isn’t far from the outdoor sculpture museum so can do both on the same day. There arent many food options around but we had a big breakfast included from our hotel. Suggest not to expect too much for food around this area.

Superb museum of Japanese, Korean and Chinese art and ceramics. We saw a special exhibition on the 53 stations of the old Tōkaidō which had old versions of 55 woodcuts. Quite special. We spent 4 hours there, it's quite large. There's an udon restaurant in a lovely setting, and a footbath cafe. The only problem is that ¥2,800 is quite steep. I think it kept people away, which means it was fairly quiet, even on autumn Sunday. They are also very strict about not bringing in phones or other camera devices, all the way to having a metal detector. There's lots of lockers at the entrance. The building is nice as well but the interior is kept quite dark.

Definitely a top-notch, world-class museum for Japanese, Korean and Chinese ancient works of art worth checking out. No photography allowed inside.

Very good museum. If you want to see the whole exhibition, it is recommended to arrange at least 2 hours to view the exhibition.

This place is special, far exceeded my expectations. It’s rather nondescript from the outside, but the art treasures it holds inside were tremendous. No photography allowed, which makes the experience more enjoyable, you don’t have the masses snapping endless pics.

Okada Museum of Art is a special exhibit of true ancient artifacts and woodblock painting. Many items exhibited are from centuries ago even some artifacts go back to centuries before BC. The museum is a must visit for any Archaeologists and even Historians meanwhile for tourists who aren’t interested in such area/field, I will recommend to prioritize visiting the Hakone Open Air Museum as it is better suited option and will definitely be more interesting… It may be noted that mobile phones, cameras and other items are not allowed in Okada Museum of Art. The museum include an open air foot bath which can be accessed separately for 500¥ or included for free as part of your ticket.

Extensive pottery ware from the Han Dynasty, Joseon era, and Edo period. Pottery lovers would love this place. No pictures allowed inside but it’s okay. After visiting the museum, take a soak outside at the Ashi-yu and enjoy a parfait while you are at it. Very enjoyable!

The purpose I visited here was to see the exhibition, “Utamaro and Hokusai ― Creators of an Era ―”. I have often visited Hokusai’s exhibitions many times but I was satisfied with seeing his famous artwork in this museum, “Under the Wave off Kanagawa , from the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. In addition, you can enjoy Asian art and craft in the permanent exhibition area.

The hotel is situated in a gorgeous location overlooking lake Ashi wity pirate ships cruising the lake to the ropeway (cable car). Lovely views of the lake, large and comfortable rooms. What let’s them down are the food options - dinner portions are absolutely tiny, not particularly tasty and very expensive, so not a great combination. Also, very limited dining options nearby - more for lunch but hardly anything in the evening

We dined at the hotel restaurant and loved the food, atmosphere, and service. Highly recommend for dinner and/or drinks. Right on the lake with fantastic views.

We spent two nights at the Hakone Hotel and recommend it highly. The location is excellent, lake-side with beatiful views of the surrounding mountains and Mt.Fugi on clear days (we were lucky). The hotel staff is extremely helpful and attentive. Our room was quite large (38m) and well-appointed, though a bit dated. The onsen was lovely. There’s a bus stop at the hotel’s entrance and we found it convenient to the activities and museums on our itinerary. If you’re not interested in eating at the hotel’s restaurants, there are several small places to eat within walking distance.

The location is very scenic, right off of lake ashi. There are restaurants close by. The onsen is very nice. However the rooms are very outdated, and most notably, the hotel controls the AC level, you cannot adjust it. If you are an American and like air conditioning, this isn't a good option for you.

Hakone truly felt like a treasure trove of experiences, and for me, it represented the highpoint, highlight, and even a source of anticipation during my 30-day journey through Japan. My itinerary was carefully crafted to encompass the iconic views of Mount Fuji, the unique volcanic landscape of Owakudani (complete with its famed volcano eggs), a scenic ride on the Odakyu Romancecar, the artistic wonders of the Open-Air Museum, and the serene beauty of Hakone Jinja's Peace Torii Gate. Our arrival at the Hakone Hotel was made especially welcoming by Cheong-san, who thoughtfully ensured we were well-oriented with the hotel's surroundings and the fabulous Onsen facilities, which my wife thoroughly enjoyed. Even on the morning of our departure, the hotel staff went above and beyond; the senior Security Officer kindly facilitated my early 5 am departure to photograph the Torii Gate and was there to greet me with a warm smile upon my 6 am return.

I'm visiting in October and the weather's really nice with some gorgeous views. If you book a room on the third floor, you can actually see Mount Fuji! The room isn't huge, but it's pretty comfy. The onsen is nothing special, but there's a nice bathtub in the room, which is convenient. Overall, I really like this place, especially the delicious breakfast!

Our family of 4 rented a car just to come here for a day. Place was spacious, plenty of lockers and different themed warm pools. Price is relatively cheap. Outside onsen with the view was closed for maintenance which was disappointing. We did the fish nibbling your feet which was fun. Place desperately needed an upgrade though. Everything is so run down, the bottom of the outside cave pool was peeling off as I was walking, scraping my foot. If you are from the US, don’t bother coming here as the water parks are much bigger and newer and kids could actually play like kids. Kids are expected to play quietly here 😂. Place was built in 2001 and seems like they never had an upgrade, just minimal maintenance. I don’t smell any sulfur smell to the pools like a hot spring should though.

Pretty kitschy kind of place for the main waterpark but it was fun to see the different themed areas. Was pretty good for our younger kids but I don’t think teenagers would have as much fun…. The traditional onsen area was much nicer but families have to split up and go by gender , kids are allowed there as well ( younger than 6 can go with either parent I think). Worth half a day if you’re looking for a way to have some fun with younger kids and do a traditional onsen

Gross! We visited the swimsuit pool area as visitors, did not stay at the hotel. It was crammed full of people. Some surfaces were slippery and almost all areas except the rest area upstairs were not clean. Locker rooms were slimy and dirty. If youre from the U.S. and know Great Wolf Lodge, it was like that but worse. The staff at the front were very nice, that was about the only good thing about it. We didnt stay long, even the kids were grossed out.

I felt like the attendant had a bad attitude when I checked in. The first thing they did was rudely tell me I could get towel with my hotel voucher but next time I would need to pay, and understand what she might have been trying to tell me but the way she said it struck me as being unprofessional. I mentioned I didn't have a bathing suit so they said I could just use the onsen which is what I wanted to do anyways, what they didn't tell me is the onsen only opens at 11am, it was 10:15, like why hold back what is contextually valuable information so I don't waste both our times checking-in in the first place.

We came to the water park. It was hideous. For children they can run around and have a good time. It is not for adults at all. So busy and tacky. Not relaxing at all..I did come on a weekend. The staff were very helpful but unless you have small kids don't bother.

It is an amazing experience. Growing up in America I've only ever been to water parks that have giant slides and rides that almost make you vomit. But at "Hakone Kowakien Yunessun" it's completely different. Instead of intense, loud, and chaotic (how an American water park usually feels) it's incredibly relaxing. Being able to chill in pools of coffee, wine, or even MATCHA! It even has its very own hot spring where u can look over into the gorgeous mountains. This place also seems great for the whole family by having easy and cheap dining with delicious meals, and several great areas for kids. It was also incredibly easy access with wrist bands that would let you get food and drinks and some other stuff as well. Once you leave you will pay for your bill, from all the stuff you got with your band, obviously. Overall it was such a peaceful experience I will never forget.

We used a private Onsen room, and it was amazing!!!! Great atmosphere with a view to the mountains full of trees, and privacy! Highly recommended! * Cup of tea would add cherry to the cake! - Location is only convenient if you stay at Hakone, otherwise you will need around 1hr bus ride from Odawara sration.

A Unique Step Back in Time—But Not Without Its Flaws Staying at this ryokan truly felt like stepping into 1800s Japan. The traditional atmosphere and architecture were immersive—almost like historical glamping. The tatami rooms, sliding doors, and garden views created a peaceful, nostalgic charm that I genuinely appreciated. Service was absolutely impeccable. The staff were gracious, attentive, and clearly take pride in maintaining the spirit of omotenashi (Japanese hospitality). Every interaction felt thoughtful and warm. However, the onsen was a disappointment. While I understand and even value preserving original character, cleanliness should never be sacrificed for authenticity. Moss growing on the walls and an overall lack of hygiene made it difficult to enjoy what should have been a relaxing experience. There’s a fine line between rustic charm and neglect, and unfortunately, the onsen crossed it. With some attention to cleanliness, this ryokan could be truly exceptional. It's worth trying once but not again

My wife treated me to a night in this fantastic ryokan for my birthday. If you’re looking for a conventional hotel stay, you will be disappointed. If you’re looking for an authentic experience following in the footsteps of travellers from a bygone era, you will have an incredible time here. Convenient location, a short walk to the bus stop (which had space for our luggage). Outstanding hospitality & an unforgettable kaiseki dinner. I recommend trying different onsens at night & in the morning so you can compare them (much more exotic than a boring shower in your room). Restorative, restful, relaxing.

Wow! We went way above our daily accommodation budget but it was so worth it! The place is incredibly beautiful, quiet and offers an amazing Japanese experience. They have beautiful rooms overlooking the river, the onsen (hot baths, 3 private and 2 shared) are open 24h and are a great way to start/finish the day. I could write 2 pages about the food! They prepared us a delicious kaiseki dinner and breakfast with lots of different things and every single one was delicious. The food gets served in your room so you have a very private and cozy experience. 6 stars to the lady (sorry, forgot the name) that looked after us serving the food and preparing the room. She was friendly, kind and very patient in explaining all the food and the way to properly enjoy it. Without a doubt one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Thanks!

Absolutely amazing and a highlight of our trip to Japan. Traditional style rooms, waking up to a river view, excellent service, they are willing to cater to dietary requirements and made me feel the safest I've felt in Japan with food. The onsens were beautiful, and everyone gets at least 50 + 25 mins in the private onsens, with extra time bookable if available. The attention to detail is fantastic - right down to asking for your height at check in so that you get a yukata of perfect length - a treat for 4'11 me and my 6' partner who can struggle with such things.... Did it blow out accommodation budget? Yes. Is it good value for money? Also yes. Once you've factored in the multi course dinner and breakfast, and onsen, it's really very reasonable. One thing to note though - it's a traditional style roll up mattress. If you like a very firm mattress you'll like it, but I did struggle a bit. Not the hotel's fault I have a bad back of course! Also worth knowing that if you come by train then it's a 5 minute walk up a hill and steps back to the train station - no fun with big bags. Either leave them in a coin locker and bring an overnight bag, or use Yamato to get your luggage delivered to your next hotel, or come by bus which drops you right outside.

This was such an amazing place to stay! The ryokan is gorgeous, the staff were all very kind and helpful, and the food was delicious. Our room came with a private bath, which was incredible. A wonderful experience!

What an incredible place! We were looked after the moment we stepped into the Ryokan and all the staff were very kind and patient as we tried to speak to them in Japanese. The room was absolutely incredible, such a quiet and beautiful place to rest place in the middle of our trip. Our private onsen bath with all the amenities was just what we needed and it was wonderful to be able to go in whenever we wanted. The private garden which came with the room was beautiful and had a fantastic view of the river. The food we were served in our room was delicious and we ate everything! It was the best place we stayed on our trip. I'm so glad we booked this immersive traditional Japanese experience. どうもありがとうございます!

Food is delicious - very good options for vegetarians. Onsen fantastic - public (gender separated) and private family baths available (which you reserve a time slot for). Staff are very polite and attentive, with good English skills.

Its important as tourist area before and still famous among locals and foreign tourist till now. Good place for photos, having meals, and shop some local souvenirs. Suitable for any group size or FIT since its open area for everyone to come and enjoy. Promised amazing panoramic view ...Worth visit

What an amazing place, it was a shame that the weather was not so great, but you can get the atmosphere of the place. Did go on the ferry, but the trip lasted 15 minutes and went 1.5K, would love a longer ride on the lake. But a beautiful and calm place.

One of the best places in my overall Japan trip. The detailed rebuilt checkpoint buildings are amazing. The woodworking detail and the preservation is something to be proud of. The staffs are very helpful in explaining and the view is stunning!

A rebuilt old checkpoint fort. The old buildings have been reconstructed with care for the historical accuracy. It has brief placards talking about life at the fort, roles and responsibilities for staff members, and the construction of the fort. I would recommend walking up the hill to the watchtower for the view.

Visited Hakone Checkpoint and really enjoyed stepping back in time! The reconstructed gates and guardhouses are super well done, and the small museum has lots of interesting historical details. The lookout point offers amazing views of Lake Ashi and the surrounding mountains. Easy to walk around and the staff are friendly. A great stop if you’re exploring Hakone—history buffs and casual visitors alike will enjoy it!

The Hakone Checkpoint is a historical site that recreates a major inspection station from the Edo period. Located along the Tokaido Road, it offers a glimpse into feudal Japan with reconstructed buildings and informative exhibits. Ideal for history enthusiasts.

This place has the best views. You need to pay the entrance fee for the cafe but definitely worth it. The museum istels is small but has some amazing pieces. The glass pieces were a nice surprise and fantastic, I wish they had more. People saying it is not impressive clearly have no appreciation for actual art.

Inspiring and amazing Japanese paintings. I learned so much from just visiting this museum. Came without research and found out this museum also has the best view in hakone, seeing Mount Fuji.

This is a nice museum if you’re interested in modern Japanese art, and want to sit and view the amazing view of the lake and large Torii gate of Moto Hakone. If you only have time for 1 museum in Hakone area I would skip this one though, as the open air museum is much more impressive. The view here is really amazing though!

Tiny, but pretty nice art museum. Beside paintins and scul[ture it has a collection of caleidoscopes, which very attractive for childrens. Whole family can enjoy beautiful cafe-terrace with view to Ashi lwake. And if you are lucky enough - you can see Fuji-san :) Lower terrace park is very compact but nice and decorated with sculptures.

A good art museum to spend time in if you still had time before leaving Hakone. They had some nice painting collections and a cafe with a magnificent view.

Nice sightseeing destination. After the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, highly recommend visiting Hakone for some peace. Do be warned, this park is in a very mountainous region and thus is quite a hike. Views of the surrounding mountain forests and lake are absolutely worth it.

There's nothing special about this park, it's pretty normal. We didn't stay there long, maybe on a sunny day it would be better to use it as a place to relax and stay longer. In some parts of it there's a really nice view of the lake next to the mountains.

Taking the coastal path was a little challenging but beautiful views! All worth it! Glad we made it last minute before heading home.

The imperial Island gives you an astonishing view over lake ashi. The Parc has some steep stairs when choosing the way by the lake. Some paths were closed because of the deep ground caused by the winter spring weather.

Great spot to see a beautiful view of Mt Fuji. Signs are very helpful throughout the park. The grounds crew does an amazing job to keep the park looking beautiful. Easy to access via public transport with a bus station right outside of it. Glad we stopped here!

It is a very nice park with amazing views and some very beautiful hidden spots. I would love to spend more time there. But be prepared to climb some stairs :(

Generally a very worth going to park! There was multiple parts of the park which showed a different view of Mt Fuji or different scenery. The best part was that this park had minimal people and it was pure scenery! Amazing.

Fun affordable fun for the whole family. There is a nice affordable family restaurant inside in the 3F so you can spend all day there learning all sorts of interesting things. I recommend using the Google Translation app lens feature if you can't read Japanese.

I should have taken my.son early. He loves all the exhibition here. Same quality as national museum in Tokyo. They have 2 floors and you can see all the creature and geography. They also have a library. You can spend at least half day.

Great for both adults and kids! The space is large with lots to see and explore. Tickets are extremely affordable, and free parking is a big bonus. Even during peak season, it wasn’t too crowded, which made the visit really enjoyable. Don't expect many English descriptions though.. The restaurant was surprisingly good, everything was super fresh and much more affordable compared to similar spots. Loved it!

A bit old and u can feel it the moment u walk in the doorn dusty and the toilet is india level . I think it about the maintenance but overall a good experience and the demonstration is very good

It’s a very small aquarium and you can see it all in about 30 mins. But it does have a good range of fish and some seals. Warning: if you are using the Hakone Free Pass. There’s only one bus every hour and we got stranded as the bus was full and wouldn’t let anyone one. There’s response to well how do we get back was: get a taxi.

Super small. Good place to go when it’s raining. Wanted to shake hands with the otters but we missed the show time. Only available twice a day.

Never seen animals so poorly treated in an aquarium. 35 days in Japan. Dirty places, penguins looked like they just wanted to die, saw 1 mammal completely abandoned in a room over a counter with absolutely no conditions to hold him and unsupervised. The only negative thing I have on a 35 day trip to Japan. Criminal.

It's a decent small aquarium, however you can feel it's age as the aquarium definitely needs some renovation to look more modern. Price is ok, it's about 1000yen for entry so there is nothing much to complain about it. If you have gone to other Japanese aquarium this will feel small. Overall still worth seeing their seals and baby otters which are newborns and worth coming down to see them.

Our kids had great time there. But the parking fee was too expensive! When we went here last year, the parking fee was free... Anyway, the aquarium has two buildings. And the new animals "otters" were so cute. I felt their space was too small for them. But my kids were so happy to see them. They have a few show events everyday and you can enjoy. Please check their show schedules before you go!

Small aquarium at the base of ropeway. Hundreds of types of fishes, Tiger fish, clown fish, crabs, salamander, jelly fish, turtle, and may sea creatures. There is a seal show around 15 mins. Beautiful scenery all around. There is a small shopping store with hundreds of souvenirs to take back including wooden carved paintings and special lock puzzle and candies. Small Due to high winds, ropeway may be closed and you may get a chance to view the aquarium.

Small but fun. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit but it was nice since I was in the area. I didn't find anything too significant about it. But I loved the shark tube and watching them swim overhead.

A little hard to find, even with Google maps. Lots of possible wrong turns to take. Attached photos of a few places along the way to finding it. Great place, very pretty! Overall, an easy hike. Look for the building/sign in photo with "parking" on it. Follow the road, will pass white chisuji sign. Keep going down main path until you see the wooden sign with 5 on it (see photo), then go down that trail and will see the green arrow sign. Go where the arrow is pointing and it will be there.

See pictures - 1, 2) get to the location at the blue dot on map, 3) will see a sign pointing to the falls, 4) first part of walk is next to a construction area on the left and hotels on the right, 5) then will see the sign in middle of the trail and go into the forest, 6) should arrive at falls within 5 minutes

Didn't find a way, so we just crossed through the forest with no road just following the sound of the water falling. Ended up on top of the waterfalls, not where we wanted to arrive 😂 Really nice. It was a rainy hot day in August so nobody was there. We took a quick shower on the waterfall. The ground underwater was really muddy and didn't feel nice 🙂 But great experience. YOU CAN STILL VISIT THE FALLS!! Only one entrance closed! (Probably because the owner of the private land got sick of disrespectful tourists 🙃) Head down Chisujinotaki St in front of the Mikawaya Ryokan. It is a beautiful short walk with a small but gorgeous falls!

It is okay, it was a slight pain to get to so don't highly recommend unless you really like waterfalls.

To get to the falls, there is only a short hike, but the path can be a bit wet and boggy. If possible, wears boots so you don’t sink in the mud. There is a hiking trail that’s a bit longer if you want to keep going past the falls. The falls is beautiful and quiet; we only ran into a few people.

Entrance has moved! First one tagged is now private property so enter around the south side past the hotel looking for this second marker.

Roses bloom in a small area, but there are many types, and each type has a written description, which is a good device to stimulate our interest. Lovely temple up a shortish climb from Fukuzumiro. Shame there isn't a view across the valley. There is not much there besides a series of gravestones but a very peaceful place worth spending a short walk if you have time on your hands.

For the more adventurous, there is an unkept trail that starts from behind this temple. There is also a near little cave/spring behind the temple. And you can see some more interesting/historical parts of the temple at the back too.

Went for a morning run to the temple. The hill is a bit of a challenge but well worth it when you get to the temple.

Small beautiful place;Not a lotto do. Things that you can do here; take the ropeway to the top station to see Mount Fuji which may or may not be in function due to wind etc,A nice walk to the sea side,visit restaurants or stores for souvenirs or visit museum or aquarium or even take the motor boat with the bus there(another foam of enjoying the sea without the ship)etc. Just bear in mind the last time of the bus or the ferry if you will be using those.

This botanical garden is set by the lake and you can be lots of blooms on trees, and on the ground especially in spring. Mostly level terrain but fair bit of walking. Wear comfy shoes, hat, sunscreen, take water. Great place for photography. No entry fees. Cable car station to go up the hill is nearby.

A great outdoor experience. From the boat tour to the cable car ride up the mountain I'm not sure which was more stunning to experience. I would recommend doing the cable car ride up to explore and hike up a bit. Then do the boat tour as you relax on the lake and enjoy the ride, scenery, and breeze of the waters.

Unfortunately, most shops had already closed by the time I finished checking in. I managed to grab a cookie and a coffee drink from a small café nearby. The weather was less than ideal: cold, cloudy, and foggy, which meant we wouldn’t be able to see Mount Fuji from the lake. When our ship finally arrived, it looked even more colorful and festive than it had from afar or in photos. People boarded and disembarked in an instant; I followed suit. Passengers who had purchased first-class seating were led to a separate hall. I was in the standard class, but chose to sit outside near the flagpole to enjoy the lake view. Many others joined me later, while some retreated indoors to escape the chilly wind. I spotted several local attractions peeking through the thick treeline—some I had already visited. The view is good even without first class tickets. If you're worried about space and want to make sure you have comfortable seating you can give it a go. But the first class upper deck doesn't have shelter, while the ordinary deck has multiple outdoor tiers, one of which is roofed by the top deck, so you get to sit in the shade while getting a view unobstructed by glass. The ship was pretty clean, but I thought the views pretty ordinary. I didn't see mt Fuji at all. I mostly took the ship as a way to get around. It was a decently comfortable ride, though the chairs on the outside decks were hard and not cushioned. The ship itself is very beautiful though.

The Hakone Sightseeing Cruise is a fun way to see Lake Ashi and the surrounding mountains. The pirate-ship-themed boats are really cool, and the views of the lake and Mt. Fuji (on a clear day) are amazing. For the best experience, I recommend going early, riding on a clear day, and getting first-class seats—it’s less crowded and the view is way better. Relaxing on deck and taking in the scenery was one of the highlights of my Hakone visit.

We had soooo much fun here. We didn’t get a reservation before we came and there were none left on the website on the day of, but we took a chance and they were able to fit us in! It does take a lot longer than you think as there are so many options to choose from when making your design. Prepared to be here either all morning or afternoon. We also wanted to do both a hairpin and a phone strap, but time wise we were only able to make 1 bead and just assemble a phone strap from the premade beads. The staff were very accommodating with our limited Japanese and worked very had to communicate with us. Would recommend to anyone.

Today I went to the Hakone park and along the route I saw a cute shop where they sold handmade glass jewelry. They also facilitated a workshop and I signed up for a glass bead workshop. The staff was so nice and explained every single stap. If you had any question, they happily answered. Also the choice of beads to complete your necklace, earring or whatever it is you are making, is huge! So expect to spend some time on designing the final piece of art. All in all it was a very special event and it got me a very special memory of my visit to Hakone! If you want to make a unique piece of art, then look no further and book yourself a workshop. You won't regret it.

Such a fantastic experience! I’ve always wanted to learn lamp work and the staff were so patient and friendly. You pay for the base cost online (very affordable) when you book and then you are able to select add on options like gold leaf and what type of accessory you would like. 10/10 loved our experience. Walked around the gardens while we waited for the glass to cool down.

So much fun. I chose to upgrade to the earrings and had fun making them. The staff helps you 1 on 1 to make sure it will come out well. They let me do the whole thing but guided my hand when I let my wrist drop. Had fun decorating then with gold flecks too. I was scheduled for 1145a but they got me in right away around 1115a and I was done with the entire process by 1205.

This was a great side trip to Hakone on my Japan trip. Cute little mountain town and after walking up a VERY steep hill there’s the park complex. It does charge to get in. But if you have the Hakone Free pass you get into the park for free as well as a discount on purchases. We showed up without a reservation in a weekday and it was fine. But we made the large glass beads over a burner and it was really fun to do some glass work. 10/10.

Great high quality gifts. The works for sale here are from actual craftspeople and are of very high quality. The staff is friendly and understand a good amount of English. There are also experiences here and the availability seems to be pretty good even day of.

I bought a beautiful mug from this craft house and I loved its simple, yet, elegant design. I purchased this mug on Oct. 3rd 2024: exactly one year ago! Very strange it broke while pouring 95 degree Celsius water in for tea. Really sad this happened.

One the best free attractions in Hakone better than some paid ones. The grass field from autumn until March is quite beautiful with a golden hour gotten it's expanse. Have a jacket at hand as the place gets windy. Also wear comfortable shoes as it is a gravel path with a bit of an incline.

Pretty scenic short route (probably about 30min return if you take your time) It was a dry, sunny day so not slippery at all. The route itself is slightly steep but nothing too challenging. Strollers definitely not recommended

Amazing spot - 100% recommend it was definitely one of the most amazing spots we saw around Hakone. The pictures don't do it justice - the grass fields with the forest and mountains in the background are simply splendid. You can only reach out by car so it was also not as crowded as the other popular places around Hakone.

Expansive field of susuki ( Pampas) grasses. The view can change greatly depending on the weather or time of day. If you're lucky you'll see some kiji (pheasants) flying around. There is one main path to follow up the hill in the midst of the grass which is pretty cool. It's very rocky and uneven so leave those stilettos back home for this trip! There's a Lawson across the road and a few small cafes/ tea shops in the vicinity but not much else. A short walk away is free parking by the sewage treatment centre, with a huge lot. There are other parking spots nearby charging a small fortune, but don't be fooled

Visited close to autumn this year, and it was absolutely stunning. The golden pampas grass swaying in the cold, windy breeze, especially near sunset, created a breathtaking and picturesque view. The warm glow of the setting sun made the scene even more magical. It's free to visit and easy to access, making it a must-see spot. Despite the chill, the scenery was completely worth it – a serene escape into nature! Highly recommend for anyone traveling to Hakone in autumn.

10/10 had the most incredible 2 night stay at this historic & serene ryokan. Hotel premises are traditional and beautiful. We had a soaking tub in our room but the grand springs were incredible as well. All of the little touches were so special. Food was absolutely incredible. Well worth the splurge. Hotel service is old school 5 star hotel, everyone on site went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. Can’t wait to visit again.

My husband and I stayed here for one night during our honeymoon, and we had the most wonderful time. The rooms were traditional, but incredibly clean & well-kept. It was a great mix of traditional, peaceful, and beautiful, while also being very comfortable. We loved the tub in our room, and also enjoyed the private family spa we booked in advance. Everyone on the property was wonderful in their attentiveness and service. Our room attendant, Senki-san, was amazing! His energy was great, and made our stay especially memorable. It was definitely the highlight of our trip to Japan!

I stayed here for two nights recently— the hotel is absolutely beautiful, very close to the Gora station and a short walk from the Open Air Museum. Staff were friendly and attentive, meals were very good (and very filling!) Amenities around the resort were great, we also had a bath in our room that we really enjoyed. Prices are on the higher end but in my opinion, very much worth it—this hotel prides itself on its exceptional service.

We visited Hakone 7 years ago. This time we decided to book Gora Kadan after reading many great reviews. Although expensive, we felt it was worth the value. We spent 2 nights in room with Open-air Big Stone Bath and enjoyed the outdoor onsen experience. Spent 1 night in Rindo room which we preferred as it offers a lot more space; separate living / dining and bedroom with 2 bathrooms. We are fine with futon beds although some may find it on the hard side. We also spent some time sitting in the lobby bamboo garden area, enjoying the scenery and bliss. We especially love the traditional Japanese breakfast, kaiseki / sukiyaki dinner served in-room. After onsen in the evening, we sat in anticipation of what will be served for dinner. Every meal came with a different menu, each menu served with high quality ingredients and great care in food preparation and presentation. Merit to Head Chef Keiji Takase. Our butler Kouki was very professional and helpful. The hotel provides free shuttle service to nearby Gora Station and Open Air Museum and a few other places. Even the hotel vehicle was high-end - Lexus Alphard. From beginning to end, we were completely pampered. The entire ryokan experience at Gora Kadan was exceptional. Certainly recommend.

This place is a heaven on Earth. Incredibly clean, quiet and beautiful design. Everything is implacable. From the spa, to rooms, restaurants. The staff is incredibly professional and kind. We only stayed one night but we are definitely coming back for more.

The hotel is gorgeous. The rooms are very nice, especially the private, outdoor onsen. The staff treat you like royalty from the moment you arrive. The spa is very nice as well. My one complaint is one that is very common in Japanese hotels: the duvet is super thick and heavy. Maybe this is good for some people, but it's really just so excessively warm. I couldn't sleep at all because I was way too hot, but I was cold and uncomfortable if I didn't use it because it meant not using any blanket at all. My recommended solution is offering a lighter blanket to guests who may want it.

We chose the teppanyaki dinner one evening and would highly recommend it. The food was exceptional and the staff were attentive throughout the entire experience. We had a few dietary restrictions, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us with delicious, well-thought-out meals. To top it all off, they surprised us with a special gesture to celebrate our honeymoon, which we truly appreciated and will never forget. Every detail, from the hospitality to the setting and the food, made our stay absolutely perfect. We couldn’t recommend this place more!

Beautiful location. Room was spotless, gorgeous, I told my husband that "I've never felt so relaxed in my life". The in room meals were incredible. We loved all the amenities, wish we would have purchased the body scrub before we left! We visited 3 ryokans on our trip and ginyu was the best by far.

We were in a Hoshi Japanese-style room, and it honestly felt like stepping into a Ghibli movie, especially with the rain falling and the forest views all around us. The room was beautiful, the atmosphere was peaceful, and the service from everyone (especially Keiko-san) was amazing. I actually got engaged during our stay, and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. About ten minutes after I proposed, the staff called to tell us they wanted to show us a “special place.” I don’t think they even knew what had just happened, but it worked out perfectly. They helped us take photos and videos using my phone, which ended up feeling like an impromptu engagement photo shoot without any planning. The meals were another highlight. Everything was delicately crafted and explained so well. Both breakfast and dinner were served in our room, which made the experience feel even more special and personal. I highly recommend choosing in-room dining with the Japanese-style breakfast to really take in the full ryokan experience. Everything about the stay felt thoughtful and intentional. It’s one of those places that truly leaves an impression, and we’d go back in a heartbeat.

The beauty of the mountains from Hakone Ginyu were simply perfect. Even with all of that, the kindness and quality of service from the staff from the moment we arrived were the highlight of me and my wife's experience at this Ryokan. We had travelled to Japan for our 1 year anniversary and made a casual comment to a single member of staff... Who then arrived to our room after dinner and informed us of a surprise the rest of the staff put together for a celebration... In less than an hour they had fully decorated the lobby and gave us a beautiful nighttime view of the mountains just for us, a truly magical gift. Exceptional experience staying here - in fact it may be my favourite thing I've done so far in my visit to Japan. This was booked months in advance as its a very popular stay, and cost ¥98,000 for 2 pax We stayed in the Sora (2F - Japanese style) room, the view was a little lacklustre but reasonable considering the premium prices on the other offerings. Nevertheless, the 9-course dinner was amazing, didn't expect to like everything being a foreigner but I enjoyed probably a good 95% of it to my surprise. The only gripe was that it took 2 hours and that our dinner time started at 7.30pm (our selected preferred time was 6pm), so we pretty much went to bed straight after The service was second to none. Our attendant was exceptionally polite, maybe a bit too much but it made us feel like welcome guests. The room was spacious with a lot of small amenities in the bathroom. I could probably go on but all of it is to say I was very pleased with my stay here and would visit again.

That's a very special place, feels very different than anywhere else I went in Japan. When I got there, it was very cloudy, so I couldn't really enjoy the views. But the eerie aura of clouds rolling over silent, forested hills left me really impressed. Getting a boat trip is a good idea (they even have a bar onboard).

A surprisingly adventurous place nestled among the hills. The canopy course is too easy while the adventure course is doable by anyone with a minimal level of fitness. The entire course can be completed in about 2.5 to 3 hours. The sore muscles after workout here can be relaxed in the nearby onsen which also serves some wonderful food. It's a perfect getaway from Tokyo for a day trip.

This was a pretty fun place to spend a few hours. This was the first time I went zip lining and it was a very unique experience. It doesn't take long to learn what to do but some of the obstacles you need to get across can be challenging and exhausting if you aren't ready for it. The 4 courses will take you maybe 2 hours to finish, but I think you can do them as many times as you like. bring a change of clothes as well, since you may get a bit dirty depending on how you land on the zip lines.

Its a very good place to visit with family… All the Staff are very polite and one of them speaks in English. Videos of activities are shown in English for those who don’t understand japanese.

You must come here if you visit Hakone! Only a short walk from the main strip up from Hakone-Yumote Station, the forest has been transformed into a playground. The courses are super fun and you can enjoy climbing, swinging, zip-lining, and balancing on a variety of styles of obstacles. It's so fun to be up in the trees and it is such a unique experience. We did the Adventure course for 3600 yen/person. It took us two hours to complete and we had a blast! I recommend taking the opening slot. We had the 9:00 AM reservation and got to be the first on the course. It quickly became busy after 10 AM.

We did the easiest course. It was so much fun and still quite high up in the trees. The briefing was in Japanese but there was an English handout available. You’re all time safely connected to the robe and don’t have to switch from one to the other safety robe like in the more difficult course. Therefore, it is very suitable for children. I would recommend to go to the onsen and relax after the exercise. The fee shuttle buss will bring you there in a three-minute drive.
