The restaurant feels quite rowdy and crowded but so long as you're prepared for that, it's a very special place to eat! The food was very good and the portion sizes, great! Service was a bit of a mess, having multiple different servers who would confuse our orders a bit, but still got the food we asked for. The highlight for me was my pornstar martini!! Didn't love the red sauce with my seafood pasta, but everyone else adored their meals!

Nice wee place, italian restaurant / chippy. Portions were big, pizza was delicious although bit hard to eat because of amount of cheese on it as the base is lovely and thin so had to fold it to eat it as was soggy and floppy but very tasty. Partners pasta Ragu was delicious, again a big portion. Staff were nice, wine was lovely and ideal position on Byres Road as we were going to Oran Mor for a gig.

This is a very nice restaurant with very good food and a very nice location is very nice ambience. The staff are very nice and efficient. Really like their Scottish breakfast. It’s a good portion so it lasted me all day until I went back for dinner here.

My boyfriend and I went to Old Saltys for the first time this afternoon for lunch. We were greeted by two women who were very friendly and inviting, we got a great seat upstairs which was ideal for people watching lol. There was a great selection on the menu and I could have got so much but the smell instantly made me want a traditional chip shop fish and chips. I got haddock and chips and my boyfriend got the cod and chips, when it came the portion size was very generous, fresh and tasty. The staff were attentive and were constantly there if we needed anything. I also got a lovely gin spritz cocktail. The atmosphere, service and food were excellent and I'll definitely be back to try out some more of their tasty menu.

I was looking for the best fish and chips place in Glasgow, well it definitely seemed an authentic local joint.
📍Place: located at the edge of the downtown, but easily accessible by walk. It is very small, only max 10 seats inside and your back is against your neighbours back. Also you will definitely get oil smelly so takeaway is strongly recommended.
🍛 Food: I had the supper (haddock + chips for £9.90), to me it was a little too oily, and the fries were not as crispy as I expected. I paid additional £2.40 for mushy peas, which didn't have too much taste either, so I generously poured some vinegar and salt on that. The portion is huge so you definitely not gonna stay hungry. Overall I am not saying it's bad, but I had some better in London or even in Edinburgh.

Merchant Chippie is one of the best fish and chip places I’ve had so far on my trip to Scotland. They use a haddock fillet and cook their fish fresh, which is a great choice. The fish is cooked to perfection, not too oily, and the haddock is very flaky. With just a pinch of salt, the whole fish is elevated. The chips are cooked to perfection and I love them.

A warm welcoming pub with a relaxed vibe. Bar staff were excellent and went above and beyond to help. The food is amazing. We had macaroni cheese and the Balmoral Chicken off the two for £15.95 menu. The portions were more than filling and I would kill for the whiskey sauce recipe. We come to Glasgow a lot for concerts and will definitely visit again next time we're back. We went a bit late for dinner (about 15 minutes before the kitchen closed), so it was a bit hectic rushing to order. It would have been helpful to know that we were cutting it close when we made our reservation, but it all worked out. Amazing pub. The staff, the food, the welcome is everything you look for. We had use of the function room for meeting and events. It is just perfect. Fantastic space for parties and celebrations too. Nothing is too much trouble for the team. Always on hand for everything you need. If you are looking for a place for an event get down to the rhoderick dhu. After a crazy work day just fancied some chips for the train ride home.
The queue was not long and the staff were fast to move people on. I had about 7 mins until my train.
It was 925pm so not late.
Ordered a large chips with lots of salt and vinegar.
Paid with cash. Got the right change back.
I got the chips and walked off. On the train speaking to a chap who also just ordered we both noticed something
My large was the same size as his box and both of us could not taste much salt or vinegar

The portions were about the same size. I maybe had a few extra chips
Both our chips were a little overcooked and dry. I didn’t eat all of them as they got worse .
I have had chips from here before and they were better.

Despite some bad reviews, we decided to give it a go as it looked quite nice. They had an option for halal fish which they fried fresh in separate oil which was fantastic. The restaurant ambiance was lovely and the service was great too. Thought it was reasonably priced. The fish was fantastic, very light batter, not too greasy. Only thing that could be improved was the bread they offered was literally a slice of bread, would’ve expected a bread roll but not sure if that’s traditional. All in all was a great experience. Will definitely be visiting again!

CATCH came highly recommended, though I found myself spoilt for choice during a visit to Glasgow, as there are three locations to choose from. I opted for the CATCH in Giffnock, just outside the city, away from the hustle and bustle. With a couple of car parks within half a mile, I made use of the limited on-street parking in front of the shop before moving to one of the nearby car parks.
The shop itself was spacious and modern, with restaurant seating upstairs and booth seating downstairs, along with toilets and a bar. The staff were smartly dressed, friendly, and polite.
The food was excellent. The haddock was generously sized, fresh, and flavourful, encased in a light, non-greasy batter cooked in rapeseed oil. The tempura battered chips were particularly special, served with salt and chilli, including real, fairly hot chillies. The macaroni-loaded salt and chilli chips were also a delight and quite filling.

The food and service were impeccable! Well-seasoned batter with a satisfying crunch across their array of deep fried items. Their loaded fritters (pictured) were sensational! The slabs of potato were thick and substantial whilst still crispy on the outside. Each fritter made the perfect vessel to carry their delicious toppings and cheese to give you the perfect bite.
They were doing a collab with Little Bao Boy, so there was a range of western and eastern items on the menu. As the vegan fish & chips were unavailable, I ordered 2 baos (£9) aubergine panko and salt chilli tofu as pictured. I was hoping for more aubergine filling but they still tasted good accompanied by flavourful sauces.
The seating area upstairs had just enough space to accommodate multiple tables, a bar, and with upbeat music playing softly in the background it felt like the cosiest nook. You can still dine in comfortably, undisturbed by how busy it might get with patrons ordering their takeaways downstairs.
The highlight was truly the staff, all of them made us feel so welcomed from the start. The entire establishment seemed to run like a well-oiled machine from dine-in to delivery. Staff went up and down the stairs multiple times to ensure all their patrons whether sit-in and takeaway were well looked after.

Enjoyed our first visit to Catch. Service was efficient and staff were friendly. Small haddock and chips was a big enough portion and the sausage supper was substantial. Chips were really tasty and everything was perfectly cooked. Chocolate donuts were really churros but no less tasty for that. Food used to be so good that I would travel from 5 miles away to enjoy it. However my last visit was very disappointing as the chicken burger was not cooked properly. I phoned to complain and was told to come into the shop next time rather than online so they could ‘sort something out for me’. Guido’s was one of the best parts of my visit to Glasgow. The warm atmosphere of the little restaurant drew me in, and the ladies working there were so sweet, friendly and welcoming. Visited Guido's coronation restaurant whilst away in Glasgow for business. It's a traditional cafe with a friendly feel. I had the fish supper, which came with marrowfat peas. I had this with a pot of tea and can of iron bru. The fish itself was a good size. Not sure what kind of fish it was but maybe didn't taste like haddock that I'm used to. Overall was good value.

Was in here a while ago with my girlfriend as our food came my girlfriend picked up her cutlery to find the fork was dirty my girlfriend said to a waitress who was deep in conversation with another waitress she took it away and returned seconds later with the exact same fork that clearly she had just given a quick wipe I know this as there was still food on the other side of the fork, rather than have her lie to us that it was a new fork my girlfriend just ate without the fork. Not being able to do dishes properly is bad enough but to then not go get a new fork is beyond a joke and I've not been back since it's put me right off.

Table for two at 5.30. We parked in a nearby street with no parking restrictions. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but got busy as the evening progressed. The surroundings were bright and airy with a nautical theme. We chose to sit in a booth and our waiters were attentive but not overbearing. I had mussels in spicy tomato broth with garlic bread. Last night, we visited the ever popular Ubiquitous Chip and it was another great dining experience.
The Chip (as it's known) is a sister business to Stravaigin (another favourite of ours) and it's recently reopened after a bit of a refurbishment.
There are various spaces to enjoy including a pub and bar as well as a large multi level restaurant area.
The vaulted glass cieling area is a mix of brick, iron and big green plants.
It's softened by interesting artwork, especially the stairway to the bathroom.
Staff are always attentive, casual in approach but knowledgable. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the crowd tends to be very local.
We enjoyed torched makeral and pigeon to start. Followed by sea trout and venison.
To finish our meal, the desserts (chocolate delice and fig & custard) were the highlight.
Highly recommend this Ashton Lane stalwart.

The food was amazing and the service was good too. Giving 4* because if you happen to not manage to go within less than 24h they will charge £25 per person on the booking. Which is a bit cheeky! Brilliant dining experience. The steak cooked to medium rare is exceptional as well as the venison shin. We usually do not order dessert but the cheese cake and apricot are simply well worth trying. We recently had our wedding meal and evening reception at The Finnieston and couldn’t be happier with how our day went!!
From our first visit to the Oyster Bar as a potential reception venue we knew from speaking with Zoe that this is where we wanted to host our wedding. We were also offered the option to hire their outdoor courtyard for our meal which we knew would work perfectly for our vision.
Zoe was so professional, warm and friendly throughout the entire process. She was super communicative on email and would keep us updated with any suggestions from her team as to what they could with for us. Nothing was ever too much and she was so flexible between menu choices, drinks lists, venue decor and set up.
On the day itself, the team were incredible and we all felt to well looked after. Despite the unpredictable weather (storm Amy!), Zoe and her team went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and the venue was set up exactly how we had envisioned.
The food was absolutely delicious, from bar snacks on arrival to dinner and our evening buffet, we couldn’t be more grateful to the chefs and kitchen team for the food they delivered on the day. Everyone was raving about it.
A special thank you also goes to the bar tenders working in the Oyster Bar who were nothing but charming and professional throughout the entire evening.
Thank you a million times over to Zoe and everyone else at The Finnieston. We had the BEST time and will hold a special place for this restaurant for years to come. See you again for our first anniversary?!

We’ve always been fans of The Finniestone and it really helps that they are doggo friendly
But we loved our dinner on the Thursday night so much we came back on the Friday lunch when we came through Glasgow on our way on holiday. Both outstanding. Plenty of gluten free options - and one big one worth a mention is the gluten free battered squid - not sure what they make that batter with but it was delicious with a really nice dip.
Oysters = amazing - actually had one of the best oysters of my life on the Thursday night. My friend said the same.
Seabass ceviche = delicious.
Oh the fired mackerel was sooooooo good. I want a fan of the peach thing with it but that’s just me, my hubby loved it. I loved the fennel (I think it was)
Mussels both times = banging
This place also does the most beautiful New Zealand sauvignon blanc.
My hubby and pal LOVED the mac and cheese with brown shrimp in it and a seafood crust. I had a cheeky taste and it was good (I’m gluten intolerant not coeliac).
But the good news for coeliac’s is that they have a GF frier!
The only thing these guys could do to excel more and we are being really fussy here, would be:
GF DF Mac and cheese on the menu - I think it would be popular
GF fish supper / fish fingers - opening the option up to a wider audience
Oh and my hubby said he would like more of the seafood crust on the Mac and cheese - like a layered vibe. He just really liked the crust.

The restaurant is somewhat cramped, and while the staff were polite, service felt impersonal and hurried.

We recently visited CrabShakk after hearing great things. We were not disappointed. The staff were so lovely and accommodated us even though we didn’t have a booking. The ambience is lovely, there is a really nice feel to the place and the interior is stunning. Our server was Ruairidh and he could not be nicer. He was extremely friendly and very helpful - he explained the menu to us and also gave recommendations when we were spoiled for choice. He’s a real credit to the place. The food was incredible - everything tasted fresh and very delicious. It was served as soon as it was ready which we liked. We chose 5 things to share between us and we were really full - the food is a lot more filling than it perhaps looks. One of the other staff kindly explained to us how to eat the oysters as we’d never tried them before - she too was lovely. We loved every second of our visit and would highly recommend it. It’s different to other places we’ve eaten in and it’s got a great ambience and feel. For the food quality, it was very reasonably priced. We can’t wait to come back again - it truly is a seafood lovers paradise!

Went here for a quick lunch today with my wife.
She asked if the lentil soup was vegan. The girl didn't know said it was bought in and took some persuading to eventually go to the kitchen and check.
Turns out is was vegan but the soup was Luke warm and the lentils hard and undercooked.
She also ordered the grilled vegetable chiabatta.
It came as two dry halves of the bread, no dressing or spread, the only veg was the scattering of salad leaves and a bit of tomato. The so called grilled veg was two quarters of a red pepper that was slightly charred but still uncooked. Totally inedible.

We used to go to this place very often a few years ago but over the last couple of years it has just got worse and worse.

3rd visit this year.
It appears The White Cart has a new team front and back of house tbh keeping 5*'s leaves for no room for improvement and today there were some issues and i guess most would downgrade the stars, however not a chance with me.
The manager and one other server were on shift and I guess the kitchen was stretched, so there was 20/30 minutes delay to table again not an issue as my guests and I are never in a rush at The White Cart.
I spoke with the manager and he told me there was almost no pre-bookings as such the staffing level on bar/service and kitchen was arranged accordingly.
I kinda was adding to the strain on the staff as I never book ahead i mostly do walk-in.
Every issue was rectified while onsight completely, I totally got the situation.
The manager saw the post lunch footfall as a people carrier size of diners booked , then a coach load of walk-ins arrive in a constant stream ( my party on top🤪).
That's stepping up...... 5*'s all day long.
I didn't get any names but I'll add them on my next visit.
And let's face it you never really know how adaptable a hospitality venue is until there are minor issues, that if not address can snowball.
Really impressive reactive live, adjustments to the dynamic fluidity of today's visit.

Very good experience overall. We had the Sunday Market menu, which is a decent deal for the price and there's a good selection too. The food is superb. Starters were a bit small but very well presented and tasty. Mains and desserts were good portions. Staff were all very friendly and smiling all the time. We had dinner here and it was excellent. All the food was very tasty and the portions were right. The prices were alright and it was great to see they don't include automatic service charges like many other greedy places around, so of course left a well deserved tip. It can get quite full, so make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend having dinner here if you want some great Scottish food.

Fabulous food, great atmosphere, and the staff are extremely helpful. We arrived early for our booking, and sat at the bar with drinks, a nice booth like table for 2. Our drinks and food order were taken and arrived quickly, we both chose from the market menu, which a very reasonable prices even with a supplement for the steak. The food was excellent and well presented, staff could not do more to make our visit enjoyable.
This was my second visit and will definitely be back, hopefully soon.

Bought a deal through Groupon which was £40 for a 3 course meal. The Groupon menu is limited but there is still quite a good choice. We had the breaded mushrooms and calamari for starters. Mains were half rotisserie chicken and a 10 oz sirloin steak (£5 supplement). For dessert we opted for syrup sponge and custard and a rocky road sundae. As a bonus there is an unlimited salad bar.
The meal was exceptional value for money and all dishes were of a good quality. I would thoroughly recommend this Groupon deal.

Great service, didn’t buy food today, just popped in for a drink when out walking the dog. Have had food on previous visits & always been happy. Here's my blubbery story:
I moved to Glasgow in May from Canada. During my interviewing process, I came to Glasgow in March, and this was one of the local pubs to my hotel. It sold me on the city, where I thought "if this atmosphere is everywhere , I'm in." I took the plunge and came over.
In the first weeks of living here, we were facing a crisis at home with forest fires encroaching on multiple family properties, an area which was a legacy for my family, i was all on my own at this point, and needless to say, I was stressed, and doing some retail therapy in the city center (property was saved, by the way). I came in in search of food, since I remembered this place was good, and I wondered how the food was.
I probably looked a bit frazzled when I came in, as the fire maps were showing our place was in the burn zone, so my stomach was in my feet. The server who greeted me asked if I was in for a pint, and told me that before a certain time, I'd need to get food to be able to have a pint. Though I was dominantly in for food, I figured that both were a good plan.
I had the biggest option for the scottish breakfast, and it was awesome. Everything I needed, and it wasn't too big or too small. The pint also helped (haha).
Anyways, unknowing to the bar staff, just the food and drink really made me feel better, and set me on a good path that day.
I wanted to review to let the staff know how much i appreciated everything, so thank you.

The restaurant is not big but plenty of seats and looks very inviting. We got seated quickly and got a nice big table. The staff are friendly and attentive and got our drinks and food order quickly. We had hummus and sourdough and this was delicious for a starter. For the mains, we chose burger and it was very rich with black pudding spread, personally I wish there was an option to have it plain as I struggled to finish it and the topping was too runny and made the bun a bit soggy. I recently had the pleasure of dining at **The Lovable Rogue** in East End, Glasgow, and I can’t recommend it enough! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with stylish decor that added to the charm of the place. The staff were incredibly attentive.
The highlight was definitely the food—everything was cooked to perfection! I had the Sunday roast dinner, and it was absolutely delicious, with tender meat, perfectly roasted vegetables, and all the right trimmings. It was one of the best roasts I've had in a long time.

It's not often I give 5 star reviews, but in this occasion it was merited, at present on crutches (temp) was dropped of outside premises while my wife parked the car a few streets ago host came out to ask if I required help sat me down in a location to allow me to stretch my leg ,then noticed my discomfort and changed my chair. Must have caught this on an off day sadly. Was disappointed in Sunday lunch. The sides arrived first, and then waited about 5 minutes on the table before the beef arrived. The beef had gravy poured over, both of which were barely warm. As a result of waiting for the barely warm beef, the sides were then cold. Staff apologized and advised they would re make it, which they did promptly. The food was okay, however I didn't think it was worth £35 for two courses we experienced on this particular day. I thought the staff would have taken a couple of drinks off the bill given the cold food and subsequent wait however they did not offer. A bit of a stinker when the bill arrives with a tip already included. Probably won't return sadly however maybe an off day having read the other positive reviews.

Food is always fresh and delicious, the service friendly and helpful. Its fairly small inside, but I have never missed out on getting a seat.

This is my local and previous experiences have been generally good. On this occasion, my fish had greasy and soggy batter in the middle and overly hard crispy edges. The oil hadn't been changed for some time and I was disappointed and disgusted with the film of grease left on my tongue. We areived 10:20pm the girl behind the counter said its take out only. Absolutely brilliant experience at Mother Hubbard’s! The food was top quality – fresh, piping hot, and full of flavour. The fish was perfectly cooked with a lovely crispy batter, and the chips were just right – golden and fluffy. Portions were generous too, offering great value for money.

According to my app the order was complete, but when I got there I had to wait another ten minutes. My mom and I went for a nice wee mother daughter dinner, I was absolutely frothing for nachos, so we ordered nachos... I honestly thought I was going to have my plate invaded by Iraq with the amount of oil that the tortilla "chips" were in. It was absolutely rank, my mom and I didn't even eat a quarter of the serving. They were cut up bits of wrap and deep fried, and I mean seriously deep fried and coated in some weird seasoning which was not called for. The guacamole was tasteless, cheese was tasteless, everything was tasteless apart from the jalapenos, it was so oily I could feel it running through my veins (psychosomatic I think, but nevertheless) it made me feel so sick. The taste of the oil from the "tortilla chips" had over ridden everything. I would definitely recommend against having these at all costs. I understand places are making cut backs and trying to make things cheaper by doing things "more effectively" for cost, ie cutting up wraps and deep frying them, but this isn't it, this is just an abomination of an excuse to call this a dish or even nachos... To be completely honest. They were thick and oily 🤢 so oily the edges were transparent.
Stop it, Burnbrae, just stop it. It's gross. Cool concept, but it's a fail. Get some normal tortilla chips on plates!!
HOWEVER, the staff are absolutely lovely though, so at least there was some good of the gross experience 🙂

1st time here since my mum passed 2.5 years ago her and my dad loved the chip chick inn. What a waste of £18.60 Special fish cold, sausage cold and chips cold what a waste of money. Special fish all broken up ( see attached photo), my dad had special fish out here 40 years ago and it was better looking tasting and definitely warmer. Mr capaldi would be ashamed to see quality of food being served to the local people he used to fight for not to pay VAT on their chippy dinner.
Defo won’t be back which is a shame cause it used to be one of the best chippies in Glasgow if not Scotland!

By far the worst experience I’ve ever had. Bed bugs, covered from head to toe in bites and rashes which I’m now having to have medically treated. How this hotel hasn’t been shut down by now is baffling. Avoid at all costs, pay a little extra and get somewhere nicer.

We had booked to stay at Smith's hotel for 4 nights but ended up leaving after just one. When checking in the staff were friendly, but the interior of the hotel it's self was very dirty and worn, in the hallways it looked like the carpets had not been vacuumed for a very long time. The biggest problem was our room. It was very small and basic, but that would not have been a problem for us. What was a problem was how dirty and unhygenic the room was. The mattress was rock hard, stained, and gave us both a very sore back after just one night. There were dark stains on the duvet cover, and in the morning we noticed other very disturbing stains on the skirt of the bed. In the bathroom there was tooth paste spray on the wall next to the sink from previous guests, and there was hair and dust on the floor. The window had a broken hinge and was dangerous if we wanted to have it open. We had planned to have breakfast at the hotel, but seeing the hygiene standards of the room changed our mind. I have only given service 2 stars because management need to address the hygiene and safety issues.

We had a truly excellent experience at Murphy Pakora Bar tonight. Raj’s customer service was exceptional from start to finish – he not only recommended dishes but also took the time to explain different styles of Indian street food with real passion and warmth.
It was our first time trying Golgappe and it was fantastic – such a unique and refreshing dish. On Raj’s recommendation, we also had the samosa chaat, which was an absolute standout. The depth of flavours and variety of textures were outstanding. Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying the pakora, which were every bit as good as you’d hope.
Raj’s knowledge, enthusiasm, and great chat (including telling us about his lifetime achievement award the night before and the restaurant’s recent accolades) made the evening even more memorable.
Highly recommend – we’ll definitely be back

I visited last year and everything about the experience was phenomenal - great food, great hospitality and Raj is quite a character. We had the veg samosa and tried the haggies pakora. Very tasty and special pakoras and samosas - so spicy and soft inside and crunchy outside - just perfect. Main we shared the lamb with bones and the channa masala. The meat was tender and great, the sauce spicy and hot. The masala was fruity and spicy. Just a wonderful taste experience. Thee service was welcoming and just on the point. I will come definitely again.

This was a return visit to Murphy‘s. I was looking forward to it. The staff were very welcoming and super friendly, we shared some jokes before settling down at our table. This set the atmosphere for the evening. A quick review of the menu card and we were ready to order. We went for the Haggis Pakorra and the Veg samosa. Two very different starters and both full of flavour and with a crispy bite. For the main the on the bone Desi Lamb, the meat was super soft and the spicy taste so smooth. a 10 out of 10 dish. This was combined with some pilau rice and a paratha (essential for the spicy sauce). And a second main of Channa Masala, a perfect dish, a little bit softer in the spicy, but full of fragrance.
Overall a great dining experience and some fun with the great serving staff.
I feel a return visit will soon be on the horizon.
No photos, the food was so scrummy, there was no thoughts of a photo. Only a memory of the fine flavours and textures.
