First visit to the pub and it was very lively. Looked like a group of teachers enjoying the start of the summer break so the place had a joyous atmosphere to say the least. Quick service, comfortable area to sit and chat, and a very nice hour was passed enjoying a drink and getting a feel for the pub, which we decided we'd definitely return to when next in Caerleon. The pub would be a lovely place to visit during the winter months when the old charm will be enhanced with the log fires burning. We particularly enjoyed talking with Jess, the security lady we met when entering. We managed to chat with her on a couple of occasions during our visit and she was very friendly, giving us lots of tips of all the best places to go locally. She made us feel very welcome as we were new to the area and didn't know our way around. She is a great asset to the pub and we really appreciated her cheerful and warm manner. So, our first visit definitely won't be our last.

It's rare these days and especially in Newport you get a pub that has a great vibe and mix of old and young without ego and attitude. Always a nice atmosphere, great pub grub with the jacket potatoes being winners amongst our varied age family (notably the chilli, tuna & sweetcorn amd tikka chicken ones all around £5), our youngest actually knows this place as the "jacket potatoe shop". There is also a decent range of drink options and good draughts. A decent pint of guiness too. Dog friendly and outdoor seating with views on a dry day. The burger had 3 smashed patties with American cheese, bacon, onions, BBQ sauce and mustard. The burgers were absolutely amazing and full of flavour. The beef was really tasty, really cheesy and so delicious. I had the Cajun dirty fries 🍟 which came fully loaded with southern fried chicken, cheese 🧀 sauce, crispy onions, crispy bacon 🥓 and BBQ sauce. The chips was crispy, the bacon was crispy, the chicken was crispy and all cooked to perfection. I can see why these are their best sellers. I got to try the smashed cheese burger tacos with cheese 🧀 red onion, spring onion, chillis 🌶️, gherkins and fully loaded with sauce. These was my absolute favourite and could have had a plate full of them. Full credit to the chef Craig for smashing the cooking. The tacos gotta go on the menu full time 👌. The misses had the black and blue burger. Double beef patties, bacon 🥓, caramelised onions, Stilton and ranch sauce. She usually gets fed up of burgers 🍔 when eating but she finished all her burger and absolutely loved it. She did say the Stilton sauce was strong but she loved it. The sports bar has a really good feel about the place. It got plenty of 📺 for all sport, darts 🎯 boards and of course a pool table. I can definitely see me popping back down when the football is on with the boys. The beer garden is amazing over looking the river and is a sun trap. The staff was very polite and helpful and thanks to Natalie for making us feel welcome and a special shoutout to the chef for making mouth watering food. It was a pleasure. Hopefully I'll go back here again. The place is unusual, but comfortable with some imaginative seating arrangements! There was some music, but not intrusively loud, so conversation was easy. Arrived fairly quickly and hot. The service staff were friendly but seemed overwhelmed. You order via a qr code at the table which is convenient I suppose but means you have little to no interaction with the service staff. So I find it quite cheeky that the order asks if you want to add on a tip. The ordering style really effects the atmosphere when ordering as a group too. It's quite segregating. I can't imagine how difficult it is for the chefs to see 8 separate orders come in for the same table and manage to get the food out at the same time. The decor is similar to all other lounges, funky and warm. This lounge could do with a deep clean. Tables were sticky, sofas stained and chairs in need of a wipe. There was also no toilet paper in the ladies for most of the evening despite several customers asking. We were here for the weekly quiz and still thoroughly enjoyed.

The view was amazing from the restaurant and the restaurant itself was very nice, and those are the highlights. The starters were lovely. Around the table we ordered the chicken liver parfait and cured salmon and both were very tasty. Absolutely loved it. But unfortunately that was the best of it. With the roast beef, I was very disappointed with the meat itself. Low quality and tough, a slow roasted meat should be tender and juicy and melt in your mouth. There was no seasoning at all. The Yorkshire pudding was dried, a couple of them around the table were burnt on the top. The roast potatoes were a joke, they were undercooked and crunchy in the middle, no seasoning, very similar to how it would have been if it was just boiled. The Brussels sprouts weren’t even trimmed and still had the stalks on them!! They gravy tasted like something you whip up at home from a jar of Bistro’s. The only good thing on the plate was the carrot and parsnip. Dessert was underwhelming yet again. Around the table we ended up with one of each thing from the set menu and the best was the panna cotta. The Christmas pudding was close to inedible, the two of us who ordered gave up after a couple of spoonfuls. The toffee cheesecake was peculiar. The flavor combinations on the plate made very little sense; chocolate ice cream doesn’t really go with toffee cheesecake. Service was poor. Inexperienced wait staff who weren’t entirely sure what they were doing. Any questions about the food was met with confusion. No one bothered to check in on us during the meal and if you needed something, you’d have to try and get their attention. One of our party dropped their fork and had to get up and get it themselves because no one was around our table for so long! The food also took a very long time to arrive, all the starters were cold so I don’t see why we waited nearly an hour for them!

We are travellers from Australia, we read the dress code and had been told it was no shorts or flip flops after 5pm. No trainers. When we phoned to explain that we did not pack dress shoes but only trainers (clean and not torn or anything), we asked what our options were and we were told that we can book into another restaurant. We borrowed shoes from family members, only to find upon arrival most persons wearing trainers, some in flip flops and 1 guest in shorts!! To add insult, we asked if we could vape or smoke at the outside area but were refused, we queried this as other guests were already smoking and vape and that the restaurant provided ashtrays. We were told that they discourage breaking of rules this but do not enforce the rules. Our meals where fine however they did mix up the steaks and my husband got my steak although we were 2 of 6 guests at the time we ordered. They cater for larger parties so do expect an intimate dining experience. They are also willing to pull tables together which I expect from a pub. In short I felt like a second rate person who was told to adhere to a standard that was not applicable to other guests. My recommendation to the restaurant is to downgrade the dress code in line with what you are willing to enforce as by reducing expectations you reduce disappointment. I commend the service, it was very attentive. To other guests, if staying at the resort, it’s pleasant enough with beautiful views. The manager did offer us a bottle of their house rose to take with us. To anyone else go somewhere else. If from Cardiff, try the Tyr Winch Pub which offers freshly made food with an equal dining experience and atmosphere. It’s where we ended our evening.

We were booked for 2 at 9pm and whilst there were plenty of other bookings there, service was nice but felt a little bit rushed at times which I understand if it’s near closing, however we were given 9pm as a booking so it was slightly off putting to experience. The food was good, we both went for the Sirloin Steak which was nice but we ordered Medium Rare and received more of a Medium Done / Well Done steak each. Normally it wouldn’t be an issue and it wasn’t as the meal was still lovely but for the standard of the place and the manor - we were slightly disappointed that it wasn’t exactly how we wanted. However we did have a voucher included in our stay which allocated £30 per person for dinner so that was a nice bonus. The restaurant itself is just a 10 minute walk from the manor and is very nicely decorated with large windows to view the surroundings. Overall it was a nice experience and a nice dinner, but not quite what we had expected to get from a 5* place. If I were to return, I think I would probably try the steak place inside the manor, but this restaurant has countless other menu items which may be worth trying!

My husband booked dinner here as part of a package we were given as a gift for our wedding and it did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is very beautiful with large windows which overlooked the grounds of the Celtic Manor hotel. We were seated immediately and offered a choice of different waters for the table and given the menus to look over. The menu is a set price of around £70-80 with some optional upgrades. You are able to chose a starter, main course, side dish, sauce and desert with complimentary bread and butter which was delicious. While we appreciate that the restaurant was understaffed, giving customers unrealistic expectations and then failing to deliver on those promises is unacceptable. Whilst we assume this was an isolated incident, we wont be returning to find out.

Being told at 22.40 the day before we were due to deliver that we cannot drop off at the previously agreed time wasn't even the start of the problems. Very difficult to get hold of - the excuse was very busy (which can happen, but this was how things started). Then the change of plans for the day of setup. Then after setting up where instructed to by venue staff, being told by another staff member that it would need to be moved. Then collection issues - we were told nobody would be there until 10am which massively inconvenienced us, some of the items at the venue were needed for a wedding in Gloucester the following day. We had to go to Gloucester, then travel back to get the items needed, then back to Gloucester (thanks a lot!). The lack of empathy wasn't even the worst part, which was of course that there had been staff on site from 7am!!!! It Genuinely seems as though this place was being deliberately difficult towards us, the reason for which was suggested by the person who'd booked us as being that the venue wanted them to book more directly through the venue. How very petty. If you want a hassle free event, please for the sake of other parties involved, do not book this venue. They have fundamental communication issues, lack of empathy and are deliberately difficult.

The restaurant had a lovely relaxed ambience and was very clean and well presented. The menu was fantastic, it was difficult to choose what to order as it was all so tempting. We decided to go for the taster menu to get a great selection and it did not disappoint! We also added a couple of bao buns as we couldn’t resist. We enjoyed every dish - particular favourites were the prawn toast (such a delightful mouthful!) The lamb cutlets were cooked to perfection, and the beef Rendang was the best I’ve ever had. The pork belly melted in your mouth and I’ve never had tofu as silky as this. Not to mention the custard bun - what a wonderfully rich, sweet vanilla custard! To top it off the service from Ming was wonderful, she really cared about our dining experience and made sure everything was to our liking. To top it all off, we had the pleasure of talking to Larkin which was lovely. He is such a talented, yet humble chef! We highly recommended it and would love to return.

To top it all off, we walk out of the room to most of the staff and the same manager having a laugh and talking about going paint balling. The inside of the pub lounge/bar/restaurant was really tastefully done, the decor was sympathetic and considerate of its long history which is lovely to see.
