We've lived in Havering for over a decade before we discovered this hidden gem and I honestly regret all the wasted years buying coffee and pastries from the big chain coffee shops where I'm served by teenagers who are dead behind the eyes. But don't let me confuse you. This isn't a coffee shop, it is a patisserie and boulangerie but I would go out of my way to go here just for a coffee alone. My husband and I first came here for breakfast to try it out after a recommendation from a friend, and upon entering we were dazzled by the sheer vastness and quality of their offering. Multiple types of breads, cakes and pastries. All freshly-baked and golden rather than those limp, pale specimens you see elsewhere. Every time we went in we felt compelled to try something new and nothing disappoints. That being said, whatever we buy we will also typically purchase a few mille-feuille to go. Honestly this place is amazing in that every item is of exceptional quality, but also so incredible reasonably-priced. The decor is quaint with cute and interesting artwork dotted around and it feels warm and homely. The owner is a real character, greeting regulars and new customers with the same warm, open, friendly demeanour as if you were a guest at her home. We now take the walk most Saturdays from our home in Harold Wood to Hornchurch so we can get enough steps in to justify treating ourselves to a delicious breakfast (and the walk back for the mille-feuille). If you haven't checked it out before, I implore you to do so. For quality AND price, you won't do better locally, you''ll be supporting a local, independent business AND you can avoid the dead-eyed teens at the local chains. ;)

We used to do order and collect service and also eat in other Zizzi branch but the order we received from this branch has completely different quality than the other Zizzi’s!

The gift was for an adults afternoon tea, so the sandwich selection was catered for adults, but the only thing that my daughter didn't like was the mustard in the ham sandwich (though I thought it was delicious). Neither of us are keen on egg sandwiches, but we are them because we were being like posh grown ups! We thought it was a good amount of sandwiches, the scones with jam and cream were delicious and the mini cakes were also nice. It would have been nice to have been given a choice of what we could have, but, I suppose I could have asked! My daughter doesn't like tea (I'm working on it), so she had a hot chocolate, which was very nice, and I was pleased to get three fill cups of tea from my pot. The interior of the premises was nicely presented and clean, including the toilet, which is accessible. Level access throughout and good layout of tables and chairs, making it a good place to visit for wheelchair users. Staff were friendly and polite. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy, plus you get free parking in the Brewery on Sundays (and there is lots of parking available if you go up into the multi-storey section, upper levels). I did initially think the cost of the afternoon was expensive, but having looked at the cost of afternoon tea at other places, I'd say the Patesserie Valerie Afternoon is actually very good value and definitely something I would do again. Both my daughter and I were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. FYI, review title was what my daughter said when I asked her for her opinion of the experience!

I rang up and booked in for the afternoon tea, which I had to pay a £10 deposit for, which gets taken off the bill. I told them that my guest doesn’t eat fish, so could they have chicken instead of salmon, but I would still have the salmon sandwiches and they said that was fine. When we turned up, they first sat us at the wrong table and we had to move. Then when they bought out the afternoon tea, they had bought out the following sandwiches: egg & cress, chicken & Mayo, ham & cucumber. They had given us both chicken sandwiches, when I had told them I wanted salmon when I booked and the chicken was for my guest; so I had to ask for the salmon ones for myself, which they bought over a few minutes later. They got my tea order wrong, I ordered chai tea and they gave me a green tea, which you can see in the picture. I had to go up to the counter and ask for the correct tea, which they bought out a few minutes after but they forgot to bring me milk, so I had to ask for that aswell. Sandwiches were nice and soft. Scones were warm but bone dry. Cakes were also dry/stale; they also only gave 1 of each cake, so we had to cut each one in half ourselves. For two people £34 for starter platter, main and a drink. Homemade lemon/lime drink is good and so is the spring rolls. It is a cafe not a restaurant and it should be seen as a cafe. We ordered 3 dishes which was more than enough for 2 people.
