Our first visit was just for drinks and we had a lovely time. Our second visit was exceptional, we turned up after a previous poor experience at another establishment that left us without dinner. Gylly cafe sat us 15 minutes before the kitchen closed and were so welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure we were fed and looked after. The food was great quality, service was impeccable. We were overwhelmed by the exceptional service the gentleman provided. They made our 10th anniversary especially memorable. We tried to say thanks again before we left but the gentleman was too busy back by the kitchen and we were rushing for a movie. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection. The amount of my seafood starter and main were so generous! I was so full. I loved their homemade seafood dip which was so tasty. I personally would love more flavour with the mussels and the whole crab. But they were still very nice. We ordered the seafood platter for 3 and an extra side of calamari and was concerned it wasn’t going to be enough but we were oh so wrong - this magnificent spread of seafood could feed 4 easily as we couldn’t even finish it and had to take some home. Everything was just so delicious, especially the scallops and mussels in white wine sauce and the huge crab which was briny and meaty. You definitely get your moneys worth coming here, and will leave happily stuffed! We will visit again when we come back to Cornwall!

We ate at six restaurants for our evening meals, three of which are in the Michelin guide (one of which is Culture) and two of which have Michelin stars. Culture has a Michelin green star. Our plan was to try and experience the best available food, with a particular emphasis on seafood and local produce. The restaurant is in a quite unassuming location - it is down an alleyway leading to the harbour and there are a couple of industrial bins opposite the entrance. It is very much a “hidden gem” - when we mentioned it to an antiques dealer up the road who had been in the area for a good while she said she hadn’t heard of it. Once inside, the ambience is refined, relaxed and intimate. The chef, Hylton Espey, is stationed at an open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. There is only one evening sitting - at 7pm. My brother and I were one of only three parties - the other two being couples. I was surprised that there were so few people in the restaurant, albeit it was a Thursday. The meal consists of seven courses (although the first course consisted of three separate dishes), plus an optional cheese course for a supplemental charge. Each course is brought to you by either Hylton or the Maître d’ (who is exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable). They explain the provenance of each dish. Some of the ingredients are sourced from Hylton’s garden. The food was genuinely mind-blowing. My favourite dish was the brill. Each component (the fish, the crackling made from the skin of the brill and the sauce) was absolutely phenomenal and created a perfect symphony of flavour. I cannot think of a better individual dish I’ve ever tasted. The aerated potato dish and the beef dish were also exceptional (as to the latter, my brother said it was probably the best thing he’s ever eaten), but none of the other dishes were anything short of excellent. It was truly a 10/10 experience and my brother and I agreed that it was undoubtedly the best meal of all of the restaurants we went to during our holiday. In terms of technical ability, pairing flavours perfectly and sourcing the best available produce, I challenge anyone to find anyone better than Hylton. What’s more, he is passionate, friendly and approachable, without a hint of arrogance. After the meal, when the other diners had left, Hylton was keen to show us the meat aging fridge and the wine cellar and he chatted with us generally for a good while. It was clear that he was not simply “going through the motions” and trying to get rid of us. It was a genuine privilege to have dined in Culture. If it wasn’t a five hour trip to get there I would be there every week. Hylton deserves all the plaudits that will surely come his way. Not sure where to even start with Amanzis but out of all of the restaurants I’ve ever been to Amanzi is THE BEST RESTAURANT I’ve ever experienced and that’s not an exaggeration. I was a student in the area and it was my go to spot for everything. Dates, my graduation meal, celebrations with friends. I even made sure to visit the restaurant on my very last day before I left Falmouth. The Espatada is well seasoned, juicy, delicious and comes with generous serving of garlic butter that enhances the flavours of the skewered meat and veg. Then the chips that come with them are crispy and fluffy. The burgers and cocktails were great too. The restaurant also has a nice atmosphere and really nice view if you sit outside. But if you decide to sit inside the decor has an impressive swagger about it. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting the area or just live near by. The food was okay, the beef was incredibly pink (I understand beef is supposed to be pink but I had never seen it THIS pink before) the pork was unbelievably fatty. Other than this and having cauli cheese that we didn’t ask for we had no complaints about the food. We weren’t checked on while eating our food and during the meal we overheard another waitress ask the table next to us if they want any water and any specific dietary requirements , this then annoyed us because why weren’t we asked any of this? When it came to then end of our meal no one cleared our plates but instead we went up to the bar to pay. We expressed how unhappy we were and the waitress who we had been served by the entire time then slammed her elbow down and said “gowan then hit me with it” we had never been spoken to like this in a ‘restaurant’ before. The food was the only thing saving this place as the customer service was disgraceful. By the looks of it this young rude girl seemed to be bossing everyone around which made us think she may be the manager, if this is the case please rethink you decision. During our visit the place was getting busier by the waitress freinds who were all laughing and shouting walking in and out of the restaurant smelling like weed. This made the atmosphere not very nice for a meal. We will not be returning.

We sat down at around 6pm on a Tuesday and it was very quiet at that point but soon filled up. The vibe/atmosphere is very cozy and intimate, it being a cellar setting. Have been looking for a new favourite restaurant after our old one in Porthleven changed hands. This was fantastic. Crab fritters were as good as others have said. The haddock soufflé, pork tenderloin and mashed potato were packed with flavours. Really well thought through, as everything on each dish worked beautifully together. I don't even like fennel but the caramelised fennel with that incredible creamy mash..good grief. Dessert - chocolate mouse- wasn't quite as special but still very good. Food wise, everything was on point from start to finish. The crab fritter was well balanced and clearly used good quality ingredients. The steak tartare with aioli was sublime, the pork with fennel had an excellent flavour combination and a good size portion of pork. The chocolate mousse dessert was exactly what you'd want from a chocolate mousse. The restaurant is well presented and I loved watching the open kitchen. Service was prompt and friendly, and they gave me the classic dessert with a sparkler and candle in it as it was my birthday, which was a nice touch. The only thing I would say could be improved is the drinks menu. Unless you drink wine, the options are quite limited and the mocktail, the cider and the non alcoholic beer were all just okay, not particularly good. However, overall it's a brilliant restaurant and I would definitely go back.

What's the true definition of a hidden gem? Well, we found one in a basement off the high street in Falmouth. With a beautiful,bright and airy interior. It's been open just about two years now. When choosing a place to dine out,we like to check out the credentials of the chefs first. These guys CV's are impressive. . There is a tasting menu or a choice of small plates. We decided on the small plates to create our own tasting menu and just about ordered everything. To start, warm Rosemary focaccia and Cornish seaweed butter. A very tasty Sweetheart cabbage with hazelnut butter. Crispy polenta, Cornish mushrooms, paprika mayonnaise. Falmouth carrots,romesco,pangratato, a little al dente. Newlyn John dory with a devine chicken butter sauce. Cornish hake, pea and mint warm tartar that just flaked so delicately. Philip Warrens pork belly, bean cassoulet, green sauce. With the crispiest of skin,not too sure about the beans. Pastured chicken, orzo, nduja was so tender. To finish we had to try the desserts. The Cornish strawberry set cream and the delicious Custard tart. Dishes were served as and when they were ready. The service was relaxed and charming. We said a quick hello to the chefs before we left and were back at hotel all within just over two hours. This is a hidden gem that's well worth seeking out.

A simple sign leading down some steps is your only clue to the existence of this treasure. There were no dishes that I would say were particularly amazing but also none which I disliked. The best dish we had was the Pollock. The dressing and the meat on the soft shell crab were lovely but we ate the soft shell as they said it was edible and in hindsight I think it would be better without the shell. I would strongly recommend the raspberry mojito cocktail- it was excellent. The servers were very friendly and were happy to answer a couple of questions I had (about the cocktails and the music playlist). The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a good vibe- the excellent playlist definitely helps.

Booked to eat here while we were staying in Falmouth for my husbands birthday. We had a seat upstairs and it really felt special. The waiting staff were excellent, and very attentive. All were smiley and very approachable. We absolutely loved the dishes, choosing around 6 (which we found plenty) and a fine bottle of Pinor Noir. This has to be the best tapas we've eaten - everything was cooked to perfection. We especially loved the pigs cheeks! It's a lovely spacious restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. The food came quickly and was well presented. However, I had mixed feelings about the food. As someone who cooks and has eaten lots of Asian dishes from all around the world, I found two of the three dishes we had lacking on flavour. The Pork belly Bao was excellent In flavour but with a basic side salad and medium bun I would consider it overpriced. The chicken katsu mayo roll really had no flavour at all., almost bland. The Cornish brisket that topped the loaded fries was delicious, but had just been placed on top of what seemed like basic unseasoned oven fries. There’s lots of spaces especially at high tide. Food is good with great variety. I had the mussels for my main meal and it was more than large enough and at an amazing price. We ordered some onion rings and they were very greasy. Apparently the same with the fish and chips but that was the only slight complaint. We came for late lunch and it was very popular. Nice place with great views.

The onion Bahji was a great size but felt like was missing something. However the main dishes were next level. I will only comment on my food so it is true. I shared the scallop starter with my wife - without doubt the best we have ever had, the texture, taste and presentation was spot on. Visited here on a Saturday night on a weekend trip to Falmouth and found this little gem. I love Thai food and picked this restaurant as it looked the most beautiful and authentic inside from the pictures and was not disappointed, the inside setting here is absolutely lovely and a nice place to spend time, very nicely themed and laid out. All of the staff here are so nice and friendly. The manageress was absolutely outstanding, so very nice which is just what you want when visiting a restaurant. The food was fantastic, every dish I absolutely loved and it’s well priced. We are spoilt with the Thai Modern in Milton Keynes and never found anywhere close but the Thai Orchid easily managed this, maybe even slightly surpassed..!? Very rarely I find a place where everything just works like this but it did and what a fantastic visit and I look forward to returning on a future trip to Falmouth!

We shared coconut rice, which was more than what we could eat. And we eat a lot!!! The toilets are gendered with blue for male and pink for female. Slightly outdated in this day and age - plenty of space though!

We visited after lockdown and it was pretty poor; food was of a quality I'd expect from Wetherspoon's, and they didn't even have any tofu. However, a friend told us they had a new chef and that we should give them another go... so we did. And it was a massive improvement! The only issue I had was that the mushroom dumplings were pretty disappointing - just dry pastry with mushrooms inside - and pricy for what they were. If you’re like me, I was so swept up in the wave of youth that I didn’t pay real attention to the edible delicacies, so thank god when I stumbled across Thai Orchid that the heavens gave me a second shot. The night began with a couple of crisp Singha Beers which were in the cutest half pint glasses, accompanied by a couple of crackers - vegan friendly, yet bursting with that classic flavour. This wet the whistle and egged us on to order more than we thought humanly possible…how little did we know that fateful night. I know what you’re thinking, get the food review…all in good time my fair feathered Google friend, now for the decor review. The atmosphere feels cosy, yet celebratory, embracing modern art and traditional Thai interior alike. The ceiling draped in something akin to muslin makes for the sound chatter to be deliciously smoothed and intimate. The hospitality here is also clearly second to none, we felt truly cared for, our every requirement granted and dietary desire stimulated. To start, we ordered the vegan cauliflower wings and dumplings which came on an impressive serving platter, crispy on the outside, tender on the inner. The dipping sauces left nothing to the imagination, and were accompanied by beautifully dressed beds of salad. Next we had Tom Kha (or maybe Tom Yam) soup - also vegan - which, put as simply as I can, although humble it was a precise concoction of flavours executed to a magical perfection. Really tasty. For our mains we had the massaman curry with no worry, chicken for me and the lady had tofu (which came deep fried). Made in accordance to the chefs regional Thai cooking style, it had no potatoes but embraced a peanutty flavour with a freshness that was bold and despite eating lots, left us wanting more. Truly a fantastic spot, which shall be a culinary highlight of our holiday to Cornwall, we will always be salivating in memory of Thai Orchid. Thank you to the entire restaurant team.

The food from appetiser to dessert was absolutely delicious. We started off with some salted cod appetisers which were a tasty start to our meal. Fair sized for an appetiser. We have lovely previous experiences at the restaurant having dinner there post engagement. The atmosphere unfortunately was a little dead when we arrived as it appeared that we were the only people eating there that evening (very stormy/cold weather). Felt a little weird just eating on a large restaurant by yourself but the table was set nice and it was warm thankfully! The food was nice. Went for the pig cheek for starter and my wife went for the muscles. Both were lovely and would suggest this. The beef shin sounded good on the menu but we both felt it was very heavy. The shin meat was like mash when it came away and alongside smoked mash (which was nice) made it heavy. Overall the food was good but I think there is a clear difference than eating there before. I think they need a winter midweek deal to bring some more customers in as the overall cost is more expensive than when it was owned by Michael Caines.

The meals themselves were extremely disappointing. My mash was stodgy and more like instant mash. A pathetic amount of broccoli that was undercooked, with 5 peas hidden underneath!! The pie was OK I guess. My wife's fish and chips were very greasy and salty. She was given the option of mushy or garden peas - neither arrived. Maybe I'd been given her 5 peas! My daughter had ordered cucumber and carrot sticks to go with her (tough) burger, was told they didn't have any carrot, but it actually came with no cucumber. Meanwhile the other family with us had to wait until 20 minutes after we had finished for their food to arrive. Their food was just as disappointing as ours. The children had ordered desserts when we had initially ordered. 30 minutes after the other family had finished their food and after multiple requests for them to serve this promptly as it was now very late, a member of staff informed us they didn't actually have the ice cream they needed to make them! This was the last straw so we asked for a refund for the desserts and were also refunded for 2 of the children's meals. There were also no locks on the ladies toilets and neither toilets had working driers. Truly the worst dining experience all 7 of us had ever had. But hey, the views were OK!

As last time the service from the bar team was brilliant extremely polite and friendly. However the seats are vet stained and dirty, The table and floor felt sticky and un clean but the worst thing was the toilets the gents were not great and the ladies had one out of order cubicle with a very scruffy hand written sign that looked like it had seen better days and the locks didn’t work on the other cubicle and not the cleanest. To be honest this put us off eating and will probably steer us away from any GK pubs. With the bar team clearly great front of house people it seems more of a leadership issue with no clear direction. I don’t like leaving bad comments and if you view my other Google reviews I nearly always give 5 Stars but on this occasion I feel I’m generous giving 3 but that’s only because the people behind the bar were great

However our server Kian was incredibly welcoming, well mannered and worked so hard!! The food service was slow however it was delicious, and apologies were made for the delays so we embraced it and kicked back. Would I recommend it? We went here a few times after being stunned by how good the steak was! The staff are really nice and friendly, and as we were a bit early for the afternoon menu the chef overheard us asking about it and offered to cook it anyway which was really nice, and I’m glad they did as we came back another three times for the same thing. It’s a little difficult to find if you have not been before and parking is a bit of an issue. You can park for free on the road if you are lucky, or pay for parking in the lot right next to the pier. Try this place out, it’s an awesome spot to relax outside on the balcony, eat some good food and enjoy your drinks whilst looking over the harbour.
