We don't often do "proper fine dining" partly due to the cost, but also cos hubby prefers simpler fare. However, it being a special occasion, we splurged and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The juxtaposition of perfectly set tables, gleaming glassware and snowy linens alongside the gleaming old timber floors and huge ceiling beams is quite delightful. Its a set menu with 4-5 choices each for entree, main and dessert with a couple of complimentary slices of ciabatta to start. We started with the Seared Scallops (hubby) and Braised Quail...both delicious. Mains were Baked Barra with Witlof (perfect!) and Pumpkin Risotto with Braised Rabbit (a tad under-seasoned and rather bland but the texture was spot on). We ordered the "salad" and its the reason for the 4 stars on the food. Don't waste your money...its ridiculously overpriced and it hardly constituted a "salad"...just exotic leaves on a plate with some salt and viniagrette. Desserts are to die for and a complimentary surprise additional plate (chocolate mousse cake) was lovely and much appreciated. Well worth a visit and whilst expensive, its not exorbitant and we'll definitely be back.

Our $18 mac and cheese was the smallest we've ever seen, about 80c of ingredients. Was overcooked but that happens. Bizarrely served with aioli. The QUESADILLA was even worse. $24 for about $1 of ingredients, was tiny and bland. The Sichuan pepper squid was not bad but did not appear to have sichuan pepper on it, it makes your mouth tingle. Was also served with a curry aioli. Chinese + Indian flavours mixed, another bizarre option. We had a couple of margaritas, no buzz afterwards as you would expect. I asked them how many shots were in them and they said 60mls of alcohol. Then watched them make some other cocktails and use what looked like a 15mm (half pour) metal shot glass. All in all it was a poor value for money and poor quality meal. Unless you are feeling spectacularly lazy or can pick out the dishes that are not terrible, avoid.

The pork belly was dry and the rind was not crackeled. My wife ordered the chicken parmajana, however when order was ready they had made a plain snitzel. When I queried this they said it was a snitzel ordered and if I wanted a Parma I would have to pay for it. While I have no issue paying the difference, the manner in which the kitchen hand dealt with the issue was well below par, making out as if I was trying to rip off the bistro for the $6 difference. I would definitely not recommend this place and will not be back!
