1Anping Tree House

Anping Tree House, situated in Anping District of Tainan, Taiwan, is a must-visit attraction that provides insight into the area's history and natural allure. Initially constructed as a warehouse for the British trading company Tait & Co. in the 1800s, this unique structure is now intertwined with a banyan tree, forming a breathtaking fusion of man-made architecture and natural surroundings.
Although it was quite hot during our visit, the tree house is still worth a visit. The entrance fee is not much and this spot serves as a good reference that presents the history of the local development. A tour between 45 minutes to an hour is ok depending on how you would like to see it! Parking is not available but there are some within walking distance.
Chengkang ( — Google review
If you like history and are into calligraphy then you might like to come here for a leisure stroll to look around. It will cost you 70NT though. Sure the banyan tree in the building is cool but if you have been to other places with banyan trees this might not be so interesting for you. The souvenir shop doesn’t have much stocked and what it does have you can buy anywhere. It’s not a large place to wall around. My kids were bored (10 and 4) but they did enjoy feeding the fish and watching the heron hunt. I’d say that was the highlight. Overall for me personally I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it. Lots of mozzys and for me not a lot of personal interest aside from the banyan tree overgrowth.
Jenny T — Google review
This place feels really special, especially since there are not a lot of places with this much history still standing in Taiwan. Would recommend to visit. Usually less people here compated to fort Zeelandia. Can visit with the same ticket as for Tait & Co. Take your time to explore all the rooms and see how the trees are holding the walls together. The place can feel a bit spooky.
Jasper E — Google review
Hauntingly beautiful. I felt like I was walking through one of Guillermo del Toro's dreams. I can't believe that it's all one tree! Stairs strategically placed throughout the abandoned warehouse allow you to see various parts of the tree from different vantage points. Nature is extraordinary! Lots of photo opps.
Nan W — Google review
Great must see location in Tainan. The Banyan tree completely took over the building. This gives great opportunities for cool pictures. The recent update with mirror structures is nice idea.
Sören D — Google review
A calm and cooling spot in the summer heat. Entry ticket gives access to the Calligrapher's memorial exhibit, Tait Merchant building, the maze-like tree house, small cafe, and gift shop Even if you're not interested in history or museums, it's a quick interesting experience
Craig B — Google review
Enjoyable cultural attraction. Not all exhibits had English translation. Bearing in mind, it’s the tree house we came to see, not the attached small museum…it was a bonus.
Robert K — Google review
Very pleasant experience. Entire house is integrated with tree branches / vines. There are also sky bridges and a small lake in the back

Shennong Street, a charming avenue in Tainan dating back to the Qing Dynasty, is renowned for its quaint historic shops and homes. Once a bustling area serving as the main entrance for river ports, it now offers a delightful stroll through its picturesque surroundings. During Chinese New Year, the street comes alive with vibrant red lanterns adorning its walls and shops participating in decorative lantern competitions.
Super cute. Lots of cute cafes also in the area. Loved the colourful lanterns. Lots of cute touristy/craft/art/merch kind of shows. Also a gorgeous temple nearby with a massive beautiful tree if you keep walking along the street. Very insta worthy. Also extra gorgeous during golden hour. Want to go back during the nighttime, as I think they light the lanterns and fairy lights. There happened to be a little alley market on as well!
Lexi N — Google review
Came here many times! Even though it’s a tourist spot, the vibe feels just right. The street is lined with old local houses and well-preserved buildings that give it a really nostalgic charm. It’s mixed with bars, cafes, and snack shops that make your Tainan evening feel more lively and relaxed at the same time. I really enjoy walking through, especially when the lanterns light up at night. It’s not a long street, but the mix of culture, food, and lights makes it a place I never get bored of :)
Earn S — Google review
5 minutes on foot from Yongle Market. Surprisingly, it was quiet with couples of tourists were there, meaning we could slowly and enjoyably wander around without worrying of the crowd. The alley itself was small, short but very nice with some artistic coffee and shops. The lanterns and the old houses made it even more stunning, day and night.
Lê K — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous little street. Would recommend coming in the day and night, so you see the calmness of the day and the glow of the streetlamps at night. There's lots of cute little bars and eateries, and places to get souvenirs and crafts.
Laura C — Google review
Cool street but quite a few storefronts were closed or empty. Visited around 3pm in November. Street is about 1 block long. Easy to find on google maps.
William L — Google review
Night visit 5 🌟 Good vibe, and lots of photo opportunities. The shops are all pretty interesting to look at there are a few eateries. There is definitely something for everyone here.
Tony L — Google review
Definitely a beautiful site at night. Street market is okay (night markets are better - check out my other review for night markets). Food is great. I would recommend to go at night but early enough that you don’t miss out on shops as they close by 9 pm

Really love this unique street. Every shop is cool and impress. Chill vibe, want to go it again !

Tainan Confucius Temple is a small 17th-century temple with traditional architecture and a tranquil courtyard. It's located in the West Central District, making it convenient for tourists as it's near Tainan Train Station. The temple is part of the historical and cultural attractions in Tainan, including Anping Fort and the former Tait & Co Merchant House.
My morning visit to the Tainan Confucius Temple was peaceful and inspiring. The serene atmosphere, beautiful architecture, and rich history made it a truly meaningful experience. A perfect place to start the day with reflection and calm.
Alex N — Google review
Beautiful gardens within the walls, free entrance. There is TWD40000 fee to go into the temple enclosure and see the many exhibits and halls dedicated to learning, prayers and festivals. Not a vast amount to see but still fascinating and well displayed.
Vincent O — Google review
A wonderful historic site. Raw and no frills. A place of worship so be respectful. Just across the pedestrian walk to the main entrance on the opposite side of the street is a Shop selling home grown Taiwanese Cocoa products. The chocolate ice cream a a treat for chocolate lovers and refreshing in the Taiwan heat
Dinesh G — Google review
A quaint little temple in Tainan. I'd enjoy it more if it wasn't so hot and humid that day. I was fortunate to listen to the in-house ensemble when they were rehearsing. Many thanks and much appreciated.
Il-Huan C — Google review
A very well organized shrine/ place of worship for Confucius. The ground is huge and you would only need to pay for the admission fee if you want to see the main temple (the admission fee is extremely cheap/ we could have easily spent more time here but we had more stops to hit up throughout the day.) I learned a lot about who he was and how the rituals of honoring him are carried out these days. I would say this is one of the must visit places if you’re in Tainan!
Louis L — Google review
Peaceful place, friendly staff, nice for morning or afternoon walks. One part of the temple has an entrance fee of NTD 40.

Located in Tainan, Taiwan, the Blueprint Culture & Creative Park is a unique hub housed in a former prison dormitory. This creative space features quaint shops, art studios, and hosts cultural events. On weekends, visitors can explore an airy outdoor market filled with booths manned by local artisans and designers offering one-of-a-kind accessories, bespoke clothing, handcrafted homewares, and art pieces reflecting Tainan's cultural heritage.
Not all the shops are open on a Wednesday afternoon. There is a blue dye workshop which you can sign up with certain timeslots if you are keen to blue dye tshirts, tote bag etc..

New place for this revitalise old building to new retail space concept. Not such a big place. Not many artsy things, there are few nice wall murals. Limited food and drinks options. Better to visit at night.
K. T — Google review
Cute area with art and a lot of shop. The price is very reasonable and the product has cool design. Nice vibe in Tainan.

Blueprint" park here would directly contribute to that narrative, repurposing the city's industrial "blueprints" into a new creative future. It is good to have a cup of drink and enjoy a afternoon.
Simon W — Google review
Loved this kind of creative places which are plentiful in Taiwan. How they repurpose old spaces with a fresh presence to the neighbourhood. The nights are beautiful in Tainan thanks to the ambience.
Ethan T — Google review
Historical park Small alley way and shop sell food and beverage as well as souvenirs The only thing I don’t understand is why this park has so many cameras, way too much!
William L — Google review
This place is not spacious, there are many painted walls and many cafe, there are also souvenir shops, when I came yesterday there was a show that was entertaining
Eka — Google review
A great place to roam around and discover new things at every corner. Lots of little places, restaurants, cafés. We bumped into the first place which has lot's of small stalls where local artists/manufacturers display their goods that can be purchased on the spot. There's a little restaurant/bar inside that place too and we ordered spaghetti Bolognese and hot chicken wings. The spaghetti and the drinks were incredibly good. We will definitely come back before we leave.

Tainan Park, a serene and picturesque 100-year-old park, is a must-visit attraction for families. The park features charming lakefront views and beautifully landscaped waterfall gardens. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along the pathways adorned with water ponds, lush green spaces, and towering trees. The park's tranquil ambiance makes it an ideal spot for relaxation and unwinding in the available seating areas.
Very good park with a small lake, interesting trees and many squirrels on them.
Volkan D — Google review
It's a nice park for a run or a stroll. It's not a must-visit in Tainan but it's pleasant. There are many birds hanging about. There is one goose who was not afraid of people one bit and insisted that I take a portrait of him. I obliged, of course.
Kayo B — Google review
A historic park built by Japanese when they were here, nowadays it has been a popular place for all citizens daily life . But it should be improved continuously. Please do something Tainan mayor!!

Taijiang National Park is a vast coastal area in Taiwan, spanning from the Yanshui River estuary to the Zengwen River estuary. This watery landscape includes mangrove forests, wetlands, and aquaculture farms that were once part of the Inner Sea. The park covers both land and sea, providing habitats for rare wildlife such as black-faced spoonbills.
This historical site is a very nice area, full of seashore plants and crabs. This site offers 40 minutes boat ride is very educational for kids
Nancy C — Google review
Waste of time by getting into a small boat and cruise along a small river. Nothing interesting. Will not visit again.
Goh M — Google review
Taijiang National Park, managed by the National Park Service under the Ministry of the Interior, is a captivating natural and cultural treasure in Taiwan. The park seamlessly blends diverse ecosystems, historical sites, and traditional communities, creating a rich tapestry of experiences. The park's headquarters serve as a gateway to this splendid landscape, providing visitors with valuable information and resources. The staff's commitment to environmental education and conservation is commendable, fostering a sense of stewardship among visitors. One of the park's highlights is its unique biodiversity, encompassing coastal wetlands, mangrove forests, and vibrant marine life. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the well-maintained trails and observation points that showcase the park's ecological wonders. Moreover, Taijiang National Park preserves Taiwan's cultural heritage with historic sites and traditional villages, allowing visitors to delve into the island's past. The integration of local communities into the park's management enhances the authenticity of the experience. In summary, Taijiang National Park is a testament to Taiwan's dedication to preserving its natural and cultural legacy. The harmonious coexistence of nature and human history makes it a must-visit destination for those seeking a profound connection with Taiwan's essence.
Ajleeblog — Google review
A lot of reviews are misleading and it confused me too. This location is the national park headquarters. This is only a building with a small museum. No boat ride here. There are a few ponds around with some birds but if you're interested in seeing the black faced spoonbill this isn't the place either, the conservation is further north. Worth a stop if you have your own wheels but otherwise you're better off heading straight to other places within the national park.
John — Google review
This is an artificial mangrove park that offers small 30min boat tours for a decent price. You get to see some small birds and a small crab here and there, but it wasn't a mind blowing experience overall. There is a temple you can visit nearby and a sperm whale museam. Pretty underwhelming and simply not worth it given that the drive from the Tainan city center is a good 20+ minutes.
Ananas — Google review
The architecture of the visitor center is special and good for photo shooting. The wall of building is built by oyster shell. That is creative and looks good. But it seems not completed and is not fully opened yet. Not much things can be seen and visited.
Terry L — Google review

Ten Drum Cultural Village, located in the Rende District of Tainan, was once an abandoned sugar mill but has been transformed into a vibrant cultural attraction. The village features taiko drumming shows, a restaurant, and a rooftop walkway. Visitors can explore the old industrial facilities alongside modern installations while enjoying the picturesque landscaping and creative artistic expressions throughout the village. With multilingual text guides available, it offers a friendly reception service to visitors from around the world.
Loved the repurposing of sugar mill factories into a cultural village for the art of drumming. Plenty of spaces to explore at your own time and food is great too. Don't miss the drum performance! It's on at 11am and 3pm.
Chek W — Google review
Came here due to the good reviews but it is really a place more suitable if you have younger kids and someone who can appreciate drums because the ticket price for adult is not very cheap (close to TWD500 each). Drum show is at 11am and 3pm. Then you can take a short train ride, do archery, play at some playgrounds and get some food as ticket come with TWD50 discount for food purchase.
I Ù — Google review
Don't treat this as another art village, but a place mainly for the drums show and with some amusement park facilities. In general the 40 mins show is great (twice a day), but other facilities are a bit worn out and not well maintained.
Airben — Google review
Visited after arriving at the Chimei Museum and learning it was closed on Wednesdays… Ten Drum Village is within walking distance of the east parking lot of the museum. You may be tempted to call for a taxi but it takes no more than ten minutes to walk. Really great recovery. Arrived in time for a drum show. Vast space that rewards just wandering around and discovering. Cool food and beverage outlets. Worth the admission (we were skeptical)
Jeffrey B — Google review
Came here for the Drum Show and it was good. There's a number of rides available such as the Sky Swing, Zip Line, Fan jump, River Rowing, Archery and Chimney Slide. The place is targeted towards a younger audience and there were lots of school kids there.

Wouldn’t come here just for it… I came for Chimei Museum and this place is recommended by local… I don’t get in but I feel like that vibe is not as good… more of a low level commercial place… good for family with kids or schoolers maybe…. Wouldn’t recommend … ticket 500 for adults

Lin Mo-niang Park, located by the Anping Fishing Harbor, is a serene waterfront escape featuring lush picnic grounds and vibrant flowers. The park is home to a prominent statue of Lin Mo Niang, overlooking the harbor with a sense of tranquility. Visitors can be seen enjoying the verdant greenery while flying kites or walking their furry companions. The park also houses a towering white Matsu statue, symbolizing protection for Taiwan and welcoming ships into the harbor.
It is a good place for parents because their kids can hang out there for a while. You can take a stroll along the riverbank and enjoy the breeze. You can also rent a U-bike and ride around. Here you can reach the top and gaze at the female divine statue thoughtfully or look out onto the bay. Try it. Ha...

I attended the Lantern Festival on 3 Mar at the park and found that it is such and accessible, well-managed and easy to walk park with a sizable children playground, a well designed 2 storey whale structure and adequate toilets throughout the park, not forgetting the waterway flanking the park. The Spring is a unique public plaza located in Tainan, offering a 1.54ha open-air space with a sunken park and public wading pool surrounded by tree-dotted islets. It was created below street level from what used to be an underground parking facility for a mall built in the 1980s. The area features grassy banks, shady trees, and walking paths, making it an ideal spot for families to visit on warm days.
Nice creative idea of this place that put the playground of small swimming pool in the middle area of the town. If you cannot think about anything, you just go to this place and walk in the water, look for the good environment around that place. In the evening or weekend, it always has the parents bring their children to play and enjoy together as a family. That’s quite a warm feeling for me.
KK — Google review
OK experience. Good efforts by developer to create a sunken below road level space on the previous mall lot. Could be designed into something more passionate like Paddington Reservoir in Sydney - maybe in future?
Aishah — Google review
Great place to come with the kids on a hot day. Lots of families with young children playing in the water. This place is one level down from the street. I think it used to be an underground shopping street before they demolished the building above and turned it into a water park. There is shade around the sides. Also has bathrooms. It is FREE to enter. This is a great part of Tainan close to lots of streets selling drinks snacks and many restaurants.
Robert — Google review
Nice renovation of the structure of old abandoned buildings. However the ongoing construction on the lower level may suggest a future re arrangement as leasig to the vendors, to bring in more visitors. Expect to see its new look in the near future.

An oasis of peace in the middle of the city. You can see the columns of a building that burned some years ago. I don't know if this can be considered a memorial but there is a small exposition about the things that there were in the building before such as shops and houses. Great place for children and for reading a book!
Niccolò F — Google review
Beautiful place to chill, good for couple, quite romantic, better visit at night with lighting
Yu L — Google review
It's a little boring. Maybe it's because of the daytime; just an open space with no special features at all. I'm not sure if it will be more lively in the afternoon or evening. In addition, there is no water for children to play, so this place is not highly recommended.

Erliao Sunrise Pavilion, located in southeastern Tainan, is a wooden walkway leading to an observation deck offering breathtaking views of the Central Mountain Range. The pavilion is renowned for its stunning sunrise vistas over mist-covered hilltops, reminiscent of the famous Alishan in neighboring Chiayi County. Visitors are advised to arrive early and bring warm clothing as the area can be chilly. The observatory provides safety barriers, vending machines, and restrooms for convenience.
This is a great spot to watch the sunrise with no hiking required. It is about a 1 hour car ride from Tainan’s city center, and it is a large lookout point with lots of standing room. I was unsure if we would be able to see the sunrise last Sunday morning because it had been rainy and cloudy for a few days, but the sun still came through the clouds! Unforgettable experience, highly recommend 😃
T O — Google review
It was cloudy on the day we went, and we couldn’t se the sunrise, but the morning view was amazing. Fog was lifting off of the forest beneath us! It was mesmerizing. You will need a car or a cab to take you there. That’s a minus in my books.
Akshi G — Google review
Amazingly beautiful 🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️ you will really enjoy the sunrise and the beautiful scenery. Be careful on your way because the road is narrow and few lights.. I can't describe the feeling when u get there.. my heart is jumping and my eyes is so mesmerized as I see the sun rise
Clariza O — Google review
Such a nice and relaxing place although lots of mosquitos but then it’s nothing compared to the landscape views ang mini dumped mountains.
Jerwin D — Google review
Unfortunately it was cloudy the day we went up, but the view was still amazing. However, the drive up does require some skills as the bends can be quite sharp.
Xiang C — Google review
Scenic area for sunrise-hunter. We went here by renting a bike from Tainan, but I also spot one bus stop here.
Aditya S — Google review
This observatory gives you a good idea of the landscape around this area, and you'd understand why it's referred as the moons landscape. The observatory is well equipped with safety barrier, vending machines, and toilets. Just beware when going when the suns out since it gets quite hot.
R U — Google review
Amazing place to spend a couple of hours. It gives great views of mountains. Place is clean and quiet with proper parking and washrooms. The road that leads to this place is quiet an adventure!

Tainan Wu Garden is a serene and picturesque traditional Taiwanese garden located in Tainan. The garden features an outdoor stage, pavilion, rockery, and a lovely coy pond. Visitors can also explore the wooden teahouse called Daybreak 18 within the garden premises. This historic site offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling city, allowing visitors to relax amidst beautiful banyan trees and well-maintained Chinese-style landscaping.
During the week, especially in the morning, it is a nice place to visit. Quiet and peaceful. Also there is a traditional Japanese style tea house.

City oasis of West District Tainan. Very peaceful and not many people. Calming fish pond and turtles. Gum tree blends in well in the garden. This garden is clean and well maintained.

The Tainan Canal, located near the China-Town Mall, offers a glimpse into the city's history as it was built on an old harbor in 1983. While the mall no longer serves its original purpose, nearby attractions and leisure activities make it a great place for vacation and relaxation. Visitors can enjoy boating on the lake, indulge in Chinese cuisine, or simply relax by the water.

(Translated by Google) The taste of the food is good, but the service and ordering are still lagging behind expectations. For example, the appetizer chicken didn't arrive for a long time, and the menu and bill were printed, but the ordering staff said that the order was placed concurrently, so I don't know if it was wrong. I was thinking, luckily I checked, otherwise I would have been overcharged. The vegetables I ordered twice were not available, and the portions were a bit small. There were no large portions for 12 people, and there were no table dishes. It seems that the new restaurant has not yet entered. Condition, the overall CP value is pretty good (Original)

Small, landscaped garden, the site of a former camphor refinery, with a massive banyan tree.
Beautiful park, nice place to have lunch. Staying in Tainan for a few weeks I really enjoy staying in this area. Plenty of good places to eat and friendly locals.
Adam A — Google review
Nice park with tablets from the Qing dynasty and the old gate from back when Tainan had a city wall. I liked the big trees growing into the walls. Kids liked the cannons and playing castle there. The playground is shaded and there is a washroom nearby
J L — Google review
Nice little park to chill and walk around. Google map will bring you to the back lane.
Justin C — Google review
A nice little place with a history attached. There are some stone stele to commemorate certain events in the modern history of Taiwan. Plus there is a historical building with ancient architecture and cannon shooters on display at the rooftop. Also there is a large Banyan tree on the boundary of which many local artists take inspiration to paint. Overall, recommend as its just a stone's throw away from Koxinga Temple.
Ali M — Google review

Nothing much except for an old gate. You can climb up the stairs to have a view of the area however the interior of the guard room is locked upstairs.
Joel — Google review
It's a great big old historic gate surrounded by a lovely park and incredible banyan trees. There is a playground on the Shulin Liu side with toilets and, the Tainan Film Centre is also located in this area. Peaceful and full of life. My favourite park!
