The Chimei Museum, established in 1992 by Mr. Xu Wenlong, is a cultural gem located in Tainan City, Taiwan. The museum houses an extensive collection of Western art, including paintings and sculptures, as well as furniture crafts, ancient relics, natural history specimens and fossils. One of its notable features is the display of ancient instruments and violins.
Absolutely beautiful museum. The building and grounds were built to model a western museum and European gardens. Perfect for taking a walk. The entry bridge is grand and every bit a statement piece. The music drifting across the grounds sets the scene nicely. The exhibits inside are fantastic and have an international focus. I loved the arms and armour and musical instrument permanent exhibitions. The art lovers will be thrilled at the fine arts, Rodin gallery, and sculpture halls. Their natural history and fossil exhibition is incredible, too. Altogether, one of the best museums in Taiwan! Highly recommend. I spent four hours here and could easily have spent more.
Leah C — Google review
Incredibly beautiful museum. I enjoyed it, and learned a lot. They have a big collection of weapons, music instruments, statues and art. I bought the english audio tour. It is a good addition to learn extra but there is already alot of english text around the museum so an audio tour is not required. Sometimes when i wanted to use the english audio tour device it said: this chapter is in manderin only, which I think was very weird. After de viewing the museum there is a nice gift shop, a 7-11 and a Starbucks. I would recommend this museum and the beautiful park around the museum building.
Robin A — Google review
The Chimei Museum is absolutely stunning - one of the most impressive and unexpected finds in Taiwan. The grand, European-style architecture and beautiful park setting make it worth visiting even before you step inside. The museum’s collections are world-class, from ancient weaponry and artifacts to one of the largest violin and instrument collections on Earth. The exhibits are beautifully presented, and the mix of art, history, and culture makes for an unforgettable experience. Don’t miss the virtual concert in the music hall - it’s a wonderful surprise that ties the whole visit together.
Jacob S — Google review
Beautiful museum in a beautiful setting. I loved the classical music playing from speakers in the park. The arms and armour gallery was my unexpected highlight. I also really liked the musical instruments gallery. The fine art gallery was also very nice but hard to compare when you’ve been to the galleries in Europe.
Jade J — Google review
Excellent service - golf cart took us from parking lot to museum and back! Staff readily available to answer questions. Very clean, bright, cool and comfortable. Even have small Italian style restaurant (a bit expensive for lunch) and Starbucks and 7-11.
Doug S — Google review
It's a great and fantastic museum!! So vast and amazing. They are collecting so many fine arts, and my fav is animal museum. You also can do picnic outside museum, they have small lake and bridge. So many photo spots
Afsoma W — Google review
Great museum and the place is huge with lots of interesting collections and shows to check out. I especially enjoyed the exhibit where they had their Taxidermy collection with animals from around the world. very cool. The day we were there, there were lots of school kids there too, so it was a bit crowded, but still having enough space to move around.
Edwin K — Google review
Splendid experience at the museum good for family and sportive individuals who like to spend time on the massive park in front of the museum. Free entrance for some parts of the exhibits. The ticket is around 200 to 300 per person. Food and restaurants inside the hall. Souvenir is avaliable.

Shennong Street, a charming avenue in Tainan dating back to the Qing Dynasty, is renowned for its quaint historic shops and homes. Once a bustling area serving as the main entrance for river ports, it now offers a delightful stroll through its picturesque surroundings. During Chinese New Year, the street comes alive with vibrant red lanterns adorning its walls and shops participating in decorative lantern competitions.
Super cute. Lots of cute cafes also in the area. Loved the colourful lanterns. Lots of cute touristy/craft/art/merch kind of shows. Also a gorgeous temple nearby with a massive beautiful tree if you keep walking along the street. Very insta worthy. Also extra gorgeous during golden hour. Want to go back during the nighttime, as I think they light the lanterns and fairy lights. There happened to be a little alley market on as well!
Lexi N — Google review
Came here many times! Even though it’s a tourist spot, the vibe feels just right. The street is lined with old local houses and well-preserved buildings that give it a really nostalgic charm. It’s mixed with bars, cafes, and snack shops that make your Tainan evening feel more lively and relaxed at the same time. I really enjoy walking through, especially when the lanterns light up at night. It’s not a long street, but the mix of culture, food, and lights makes it a place I never get bored of :)
Earn S — Google review
5 minutes on foot from Yongle Market. Surprisingly, it was quiet with couples of tourists were there, meaning we could slowly and enjoyably wander around without worrying of the crowd. The alley itself was small, short but very nice with some artistic coffee and shops. The lanterns and the old houses made it even more stunning, day and night.
Lê K — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous little street. Would recommend coming in the day and night, so you see the calmness of the day and the glow of the streetlamps at night. There's lots of cute little bars and eateries, and places to get souvenirs and crafts.
Laura C — Google review
Cool street but quite a few storefronts were closed or empty. Visited around 3pm in November. Street is about 1 block long. Easy to find on google maps.
William L — Google review
Night visit 5 🌟 Good vibe, and lots of photo opportunities. The shops are all pretty interesting to look at there are a few eateries. There is definitely something for everyone here.
Tony L — Google review
Definitely a beautiful site at night. Street market is okay (night markets are better - check out my other review for night markets). Food is great. I would recommend to go at night but early enough that you don’t miss out on shops as they close by 9 pm

3Anping Tree House

Anping Tree House, situated in Anping District of Tainan, Taiwan, is a must-visit attraction that provides insight into the area's history and natural allure. Initially constructed as a warehouse for the British trading company Tait & Co. in the 1800s, this unique structure is now intertwined with a banyan tree, forming a breathtaking fusion of man-made architecture and natural surroundings.
Although it was quite hot during our visit, the tree house is still worth a visit. The entrance fee is not much and this spot serves as a good reference that presents the history of the local development. A tour between 45 minutes to an hour is ok depending on how you would like to see it! Parking is not available but there are some within walking distance.
Chengkang ( — Google review
If you like history and are into calligraphy then you might like to come here for a leisure stroll to look around. It will cost you 70NT though. Sure the banyan tree in the building is cool but if you have been to other places with banyan trees this might not be so interesting for you. The souvenir shop doesn’t have much stocked and what it does have you can buy anywhere. It’s not a large place to wall around. My kids were bored (10 and 4) but they did enjoy feeding the fish and watching the heron hunt. I’d say that was the highlight. Overall for me personally I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it. Lots of mozzys and for me not a lot of personal interest aside from the banyan tree overgrowth.
Jenny T — Google review
This place feels really special, especially since there are not a lot of places with this much history still standing in Taiwan. Would recommend to visit. Usually less people here compated to fort Zeelandia. Can visit with the same ticket as for Tait & Co. Take your time to explore all the rooms and see how the trees are holding the walls together. The place can feel a bit spooky.
Jasper E — Google review
Hauntingly beautiful. I felt like I was walking through one of Guillermo del Toro's dreams. I can't believe that it's all one tree! Stairs strategically placed throughout the abandoned warehouse allow you to see various parts of the tree from different vantage points. Nature is extraordinary! Lots of photo opps.
Nan W — Google review
Great must see location in Tainan. The Banyan tree completely took over the building. This gives great opportunities for cool pictures. The recent update with mirror structures is nice idea.
Sören D — Google review
A calm and cooling spot in the summer heat. Entry ticket gives access to the Calligrapher's memorial exhibit, Tait Merchant building, the maze-like tree house, small cafe, and gift shop Even if you're not interested in history or museums, it's a quick interesting experience
Craig B — Google review
Enjoyable cultural attraction. Not all exhibits had English translation. Bearing in mind, it’s the tree house we came to see, not the attached small museum…it was a bonus.
Robert K — Google review
Very pleasant experience. Entire house is integrated with tree branches / vines. There are also sky bridges and a small lake in the back

Tainan Confucius Temple is a small 17th-century temple with traditional architecture and a tranquil courtyard. It's located in the West Central District, making it convenient for tourists as it's near Tainan Train Station. The temple is part of the historical and cultural attractions in Tainan, including Anping Fort and the former Tait & Co Merchant House.
My morning visit to the Tainan Confucius Temple was peaceful and inspiring. The serene atmosphere, beautiful architecture, and rich history made it a truly meaningful experience. A perfect place to start the day with reflection and calm.
Alex N — Google review
Beautiful gardens within the walls, free entrance. There is TWD40000 fee to go into the temple enclosure and see the many exhibits and halls dedicated to learning, prayers and festivals. Not a vast amount to see but still fascinating and well displayed.
Vincent O — Google review
A wonderful historic site. Raw and no frills. A place of worship so be respectful. Just across the pedestrian walk to the main entrance on the opposite side of the street is a Shop selling home grown Taiwanese Cocoa products. The chocolate ice cream a a treat for chocolate lovers and refreshing in the Taiwan heat
Dinesh G — Google review
A quaint little temple in Tainan. I'd enjoy it more if it wasn't so hot and humid that day. I was fortunate to listen to the in-house ensemble when they were rehearsing. Many thanks and much appreciated.
Il-Huan C — Google review
A very well organized shrine/ place of worship for Confucius. The ground is huge and you would only need to pay for the admission fee if you want to see the main temple (the admission fee is extremely cheap/ we could have easily spent more time here but we had more stops to hit up throughout the day.) I learned a lot about who he was and how the rituals of honoring him are carried out these days. I would say this is one of the must visit places if you’re in Tainan!
Louis L — Google review
Peaceful place, friendly staff, nice for morning or afternoon walks. One part of the temple has an entrance fee of NTD 40.

The National Museum of Taiwan Literature is a grand former government building that houses literary artifacts from native and colonial writers. It is located in the West Central District of Tainan, making it a convenient stop for tourists near the Tainan Train Station. The district is home to many other famous attractions such as Hayashi Department Store and Confucius Temple, making it a popular choice for sightseeing. With its charming appeal and numerous hotels, this district attracts many tourists visiting Tainan.
Perfectly curated, architecture was great, new and old blended very well, and it's free! Absolute steal, made the trip so much better 💫
Aishah — Google review
As someone who loves literature, I was so excited to find out this museum exists! The exhibits were impressive. With the many changes throughout Taiwan’s history, there are gaps where written literature wasn’t as prevalent. I liked how history, literature, and culture were shown to be so intertwined. While of course not everything is translated, the most significant descriptions and placards are bilingual in English and Mandarin, so tourists will be able to enjoy this museum, too. I highly recommend adding this museum to your list of must-see places. Reserve 90+ minutes.
Leah C — Google review
A museum not to be missed for literature lovers. Presents an insightful narrative of the evolutionary history of Taiwan through the lens of the literary arts. The exhibits invite visitors to immerse in an intertextual dialogue with the writers and their works, experiencing first hand the immense role Taiwanese literature plays to shape cultural and identity discourse in modern life. I was deeply moved and engaged throughout.
Tan G — Google review
It is an interesting museum providing the literary history of Taiwan.
Siu L — Google review
To my surprise it wasn't a boring place as i thought it would be. you don't have to buy a ticket to enter, you can interact with a lot of games and screens you can also read a lot of books and the architecture itself is very historical. I learned a lot in this place, I visited when it was raining and it's actually a big place that you can walk for over an hour just hanging out in that place and they have a lot of English translations to many things that you can interact with and have fun with. Especially to those who really enjoy literature in Taiwan you can know a lot of culture, authors and also books

Very interesting, even in English. The women that work there are so friendly, kind, lovely and so so smart! They love to help and explain everything to you. Thank you to all of you, we had an amazing visit here

Really nice building with a good amount of knowledge inside. There were journals dating from the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, to the era of censorship before the 1990s. Upstairs there are literary works and stories from Taiwan’s Indigenous Peoples.
Touie G — Google review
A great place to know Taiwan history and literature. The exhibitions are informaive; the building is artistic, comfortable, modern and beautiful to me. Free admission. You can check out the audio guide machine. Definitely a must-come place if u want to know more about Taiwan literature and history.

Sicao Green Tunnel, also known as the 'Taiwan mini Amazon,' is a popular attraction in Tainan's Taijiang National Park. It features a striking canopy of mangrove trees that form a green tunnel over the Yenshui River. Visitors can take a 30-minute boat tour through this natural wonder, capturing picturesque reflections on the water and enjoying the serene and beautiful scenery.
Very nice short trip (30 minutes). You go trough the mangroves. You have to watch your head and they don’t explain anything in English. However the signs are in English and there’s a lot of wildlife you can see! Definitely worth the money!
Hana N — Google review
The Sicao Green Tunnel (四草綠色隧道) is one of Tainan's most famous and picturesque tourist attractions. It's often called the "Mini Amazon of Taiwan" due to its dense, overhanging mangrove forests that create a beautiful, serene green canopy over the water. The Sicao Green Tunnel offers a unique and beautiful nature experience that is hard to find elsewhere in Taiwan. The stunning visual of the green canopy reflecting on the water makes for unforgettable photos and a very peaceful escape from the city. It's a highlight of any trip to Tainan.
Simon W — Google review
The day we were there was pretty hot, wearing a life jacket made it even hotter. The views along the green tunnel were very special, Amazon forest like. The tunnel was narrow and trees were hanging low, the guide had to call out constantly to lower your head to pass through. It was an interesting experience.
Patrick X — Google review
Would be nice if they can also do the tour in English. It was worth it even though it was raining. Getting the tickets were complicated and not straightforward. It was still worth it.

Second grade world class wet land - $200 NT per adult, can purchase on site or over the agencies such as klook trip dot com. Spend roughly 30 mins on board and the guide was so helpful and funny, knowledgeable about the eco area. NO ENGLISH GUIDE, unfortunately. Rural area, plan your travel accordingly. I waited an hour for the return bus.
William L — Google review
It was an experience. It took 30 minutes as compared to the other one that took 70 minutes. It’s 200ntd a person and was basically an explanation of types of mangroves. The tour was unfortunately in Chinese but if you are interested in seeing it it’s not that bad.

The Hayashi Department Store is a historic multi-story building with restored 1930s architecture, offering a variety of goods for sale and featuring an eatery. Following a renovation from 2006 to 2014, the store now attracts visitors looking for souvenirs, Taiwanese teas, condiments, spices in vintage-inspired packaging, local apparel, stationery, and homeware by Taiwanese designers. The top floor includes an observatory deck and the only rooftop Shinto shrine in Taiwan.
One of the oldest department store in Taiwan with history that can be traced back to the Japanese occupation era. I'm glad the city decided to renovate the building and preserve its own heritage. The building is aesthetically pleasing, and lots of its old features inside were preserved, like the elevator and floorings. The interior design feels like a mix of old school and modern vibes. I highly recommend at least checking out the terrace on the top floor. It's neatly designed but unfortunately doesn't provide a very good city view. There's also a Japanese shrine up there. Even tho its titled as a department store it feels more like a huge souvenir store, the items sold inside are mostly artistic crafts and souvenirs of all kinds. Still, I recommend checking it out if you're in Tainan. Undoubtedly a pretty cool place to explore.
Yuhng Y — Google review
Very cool historic departmental store and worth checking out. Recommend taking the elevator to the top and check out the roof before working your way down. We had a lovely view of the sunset from the roof top. The departmental store had lots of interesting items and worth spending plenty of time there. We got some earrings there and some tile coasters. Very happy with the purchase and the experience.

Has many different goods available. From household goods to fashion goods, one can find things that they like. They have quite a variety of Taiwan edible goodies on the first floor. The 5th has a cafe which serves delicious pastries and the soft toufu dessert. There is even a small souvenir shop on the top floor! Must go! Definitely worth a visit.
Linda L — Google review
A "must see" if you are interested in a relic from the Japanese colonial period. Interesting to learn that Taiwan was once ruled by the Japanese for half a century and that this area was once known as the "Ginza" of Tainan. Of note, the restrooms were tiny and the tofu pudding desserts served on the 5th floor cafe were delicous but servings were on the petite size. They also require each person to order something. Displays were in Chinese only but you can learn alot more about this relic doing a web search.
William L — Google review
This is a very historic old building but also has a cool set of small shops inside it. There is a big queue to use the elevator, and it's tiny, so just take the stairs. Speaking of the stairs, they are very steep! The cafe at the top is cool and has some tasty treats on the menu for reasonable prices.
Alistair D — Google review
The cafe at the top is very stylish and serves nice desserts and drinks. The caramel pudding with “Taiwanese macaron” was a real treat, and the red tea float was also very nice. A great place to relax. Minimum order for sitting is pretty much just buy something.

A historical place reminiscent of the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan. Structurally well preserved with modern updates that do not affect its historical stature. Worth a visit.

Tainan Park, a serene and picturesque 100-year-old park, is a must-visit attraction for families. The park features charming lakefront views and beautifully landscaped waterfall gardens. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along the pathways adorned with water ponds, lush green spaces, and towering trees. Very good park with a small lake, interesting trees and many squirrels on them.

It's a nice park for a run or a stroll. It's not a must-visit in Tainan but it's pleasant. There are many birds hanging about. There is one goose who was not afraid of people one bit and insisted that I take a portrait of him. I obliged, of course.

Taijiang National Park is a vast coastal area in Taiwan, spanning from the Yanshui River estuary to the Zengwen River estuary. This watery landscape includes mangrove forests, wetlands, and aquaculture farms that were once part of the Inner Sea. The park covers both land and sea, providing habitats for rare wildlife such as black-faced spoonbills.
This historical site is a very nice area, full of seashore plants and crabs. This site offers 40 minutes boat ride is very educational for kids

Waste of time by getting into a small boat and cruise along a small river. Nothing interesting. Will not visit again.

Moreover, Taijiang National Park preserves Taiwan's cultural heritage with historic sites and traditional villages, allowing visitors to delve into the island's past. The integration of local communities into the park's management enhances the authenticity of the experience. In summary, Taijiang National Park is a testament to Taiwan's dedication to preserving its natural and cultural legacy. The harmonious coexistence of nature and human history makes it a must-visit destination for those seeking a profound connection with Taiwan's essence.

A lot of reviews are misleading and it confused me too. This location is the national park headquarters. This is only a building with a small museum. No boat ride here. There are a few ponds around with some birds but if you're interested in seeing the black faced spoonbill this isn't the place either, the conservation is further north. Worth a stop if you have your own wheels but otherwise you're better off heading straight to other places within the national park.
John — Google review
This is an artificial mangrove park that offers small 30min boat tours for a decent price. You get to see some small birds and a small crab here and there, but it wasn't a mind blowing experience overall. There is a temple you can visit nearby and a sperm whale museam. Pretty underwhelming and simply not worth it given that the drive from the Tainan city center is a good 20+ minutes.
Ananas — Google review
The architecture of the visitor center is special and good for photo shooting. The wall of building is built by oyster shell. That is creative and looks good. But it seems not completed and is not fully opened yet. Not much things can be seen and visited.

Jingzaijiao Tile-paved Salt Fields, a historic site with a 338-year-old salt-making tradition, offers visitors the chance to witness the traditional salt production process and enjoy breathtaking sunset views. The area includes Qigu Salt Mountain, standing six stories high and marking the end of its long history in salt production. Visitors can also explore the Qi Gu Salt Museum to learn about the region's rich past and purchase locally made salt products.
Came here for sightseeing, it never disappointed me. There is a free tour where a tram will bring you to the ocean side where you can see a nice sunset if you come in the evening. There is also a small field where you can take the sea salt. The ice cream sold here is also nice. It has a hint of sea salt. Overall, great experience and I would highly recommend if you are nearby. Best part is that it is free to come here.
Oliver Y — Google review
I’ve been to this place several times, but it’s difficult to catch the perfect weather for photographing the sunset. The fields weren’t as accessible as they used to be, where you could walk in, play with the salt, and take pictures. Due to the festival, it was crowded, so I’d probably recommend visiting during the week to avoid too many tourists.
Neti H — Google review
Nice place to visit and learn how salt is harvested from the sea. We arrived quite late and had a good view of the sunset as well. The mountains of sea salt on each tile was marvelous. Was made to understand that it will be harvested and sent to a factory closeby for cleaning and processing before being sold.
WorstDad — Google review
It's ok. Can get some interesting mirror pictures in the water. Was a 50 minute drive for us. No entrance fee. They were running a free tram to take you out a little bit further to see the oyster beds and learn a little bit (in Mandarin). But the tram ends with mostly a sales presentation slideshow , not a "movie" and then you enter a sales room for various salt products. You could try a free sample toothbrush pre loaded with salt toothpaste.
Ron V — Google review
Unique historical attraction. They must have to reproduce the salt stacks regularly because salt is obviously not collected this way anymore. Amazing location for capturing sunset. There were many tourists and locals on a weekend evening at dusk.

A brief guide of salt field history. Nice to spend some time here. Plenty of parking, clean restrooms, snacks, and a short trolley tour.

It's a free protected attraction + mini activity. Plenty of parking space. They also got a souvenir shop items made out of salt.

Where the river deltas of Tainan meet the ocean are old salt collection fields. You can experience how they gathered sea salt in ancient times. There is a small golf cart tour you can take and a gift shop full of products they make from this special salt such as handsoap, shampoos, bath additives, lotion, toothpaste, etc. They even have soft serve ice cream, tea and Cafe lattes with this local salt added

It’s the right size and right amount of crowd before it gets too crazy. I guess it would safe to pick the vendor with a line at front. It’s a bit tricky to order since they have different rules for some vendors.

Wusheng Night Market is easily one of Tainan’s most bustling, energetic, and entertaining night markets—an absolute must-visit if you're in the city! Open only on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, it transforms into a lively hub packed with the sights, sounds, and aromas of Taiwanese street culture. What sets Wusheng apart is its sheer size and variety. The food and drink options are endless—from sizzling skewers and deep-fried snacks to bubble tea, grilled seafood, traditional local delights, and creative fusion bites. Whether you’re a foodie on a mission or just looking to nibble your way through, there's something for everyone. But it’s not just about food. The market is a vibrant mix of lifestyle and culture. You’ll find stalls offering fortune-telling services, home essentials, beauty products, accessories, and quirky knick-knacks. It’s the perfect place to pick up a little something unique while immersing yourself in the local vibe. Adding to the fun, there's a whole section filled with classic night market games—think ring toss, balloon darts, fishing games, and more—plus a small funfair area that’s perfect for kids and families. The atmosphere is festive, friendly, and full of life. Despite the crowds, the market feels well-organized and easy to navigate. Just remember to wear comfortable shoes, bring cash, and come hungry! Wusheng Night Market is more than just a food stop—it’s an experience. One of the liveliest and most complete night markets in Tainan. Highly recommended!

Tainan Art Museum Building 2 is a striking space showcasing contemporary Taiwanese art and sculpture exhibitions. The purpose-built structure features bold, cutting-edge designs that have been likened to a mockup for a base on Mars or a ziggurat. This newly opened museum is part of the Tainan Art Museum complex, which includes two separate sites: Building 1, housed in a historic Art Deco building, and Building 2 with its bold contemporary design.
A fairly new art centre for this beautiful historic city Given that Tainan is one of the oldest cities in the country, they know their arts, and they know how to well arrange art exhibitions, just the building itself is a piece of architectural work for visitors to admire Honorary mention, the volunteers are extremely helpful, that completes a great experience

Good spot for a rainy day and an absolutely beautifully designed building. Unfortunately many of the exhibitions halls were shut while we were there (I think they are all temporary galleries so you need to get your timing right). The joint ticket with the other art gallery building is worth it. I preferred art museum building 1.

Tainan Art Museum Building 1 is a unique modern art exhibition space located in a converted art deco police station dating back to the 1930s. It offers visitors the opportunity to wander through different pathways and enjoy various exhibits displayed in a distinctive manner. The museum showcases centuries of artwork and artifacts, including modern pieces, providing a special opportunity to appreciate different forms of art in one place. Admission grants access to both the museum and the second building down the road.
This museum is a beautiful blend of history and classic architecture. It used to be a police station during the Japanese colonial era! The building has elegant details that make it a great spot for photos. Inside, there are exhibits and special displays that dive into local culture and history. What’s even better is that with just one ticket, you can visit both Tainan Art Gallery 1 and 2! The atmosphere is calm and a bit nostalgic, perfect for taking your time to soak in the experience 💗

The city’s art centre hidden in an interesting historical building Well managed and scheduled with many local or new comer artists, that fully offers a great vibe … the big banyan tree living in the atrium is totally out of this world Therefore next trip to Tainan, remember to drop in, no regrets

Some nice exhibitions currently, especially memory of a landscape, which although small had some exquisite otherworldly marble pieces. Ticket also includes the new art building, however currently not much is displayed there.

The staff were nice, the building has its own unique feel, different from Building 2. The garden in the middle is a great little spot to sit and chill if the weather is good.
Dduki — Google review
The exhibits were more interactive rather than artistic. It is still worth a visit if you are interested in art. The $200NT ticket covers both museums but I think kids would prefer this over the larger museum.
Yu-Ting — Google review
This is an art museum very much in time with its community. Tainan is a smallish town, less urban and so in many ways more interesting than the soaking metropoles. The curators do as much as they can to bring Artist works to life by including biographical narratives and plain language explanations of the works or their subsets. So even if you lack the vocabulary of the art world, it becomes easy to connect with the artist and their works. There are several addresses dedicated to shakers children that let them play with and experiment with art materials. Very refreshing change from high brow museums that do more to ring fence the works for the 'art elites' than to make their institutions valuable to the general community.

Fahua Temple is one of Tainan's oldest Buddhist temples, boasting a serene and understated aesthetic. Visitors can explore the temple with a monk who has dedicated his life to its grounds. The temple features various religious artworks and statues, including a gourd believed to exorcise evil spirits. Despite not undergoing significant changes over the years, it remains a peaceful and beautiful place for visitors to immerse themselves in religious art and history.
Really great place to visit off the beaten path. It took some effort to find since Lonely Planets instructions were a bit off (look for house number 46, not 76) and then down the adjacent alley. We spent a lot of time looking at the very large and very scary sculptures of demons and the cute big Buddha. Deftly recommend!!!

It is a designated historic site by a municipality directly under the Central Government of the Republic of China. The temple is also one of the seven and eight temples in Fucheng, Taiwan. The temple's predecessor was the residence of Li Maochun, a scholar who came to Taiwan with Zheng Jing during the Ming Dynasty. Because he had no interest in fame, he planted plums and bamboos here, built a garden and practiced chanting Buddha. He was known as Li Bodhisattva. Li Maochun and Chen Yonghua, who joined the army of Ming Zheng, were good friends. In the forty-seventh year of Kangxi's reign (1798), Song Yongqing, the magistrate of Fengshan County, led a crowd to donate money to build the temple and built a three-level temple building. The front hall was dedicated to the God of Fire Zhurong (Emperor of Antarctica), also known as the Fire Temple; the middle hall was dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva. The back hall is dedicated to Zhunti Bodhisattva, and there is another Zen room in the backyard. Fahua Temple faces north and faces south, with a total of five axes. The first main entrance is the Hall of Heavenly Kings, with Maitreya Bodhisattva in the center, Wei Tuo and Vajra in the back, and the Four Heavenly Kings on both sides; the second entrance is the Mahavira Hall, where the Three Jewels Buddha is worshiped, with eight Bodhisattvas, Wei Tuo and Vajra on both sides; The third entrance is the Guanyin Hall, dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva. During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, it was converted into a Buddhist temple to worship Sakyamuni Buddha. Its architecture integrates elements of Buddhism and Taoism. The left hall is dedicated to Emperor Guan, and the right hall is dedicated to the God of Fire. It is a rare example of the integration of Buddhism and Taoism in Taiwan. The "Yanshou Bridge" in the temple is named after believers praying for longevity. The Juxian Hall was once the gathering place of the Nanshe Literary Poetry Society. The mural "Zhuang Zhou Dreaming of Butterflies" echoes the allusion of Li Maochun. It was damaged by the war during the Japanese colonial period. After reconstruction in 1959, it still retained the traditional layout. It is now a municipal historic site. Omg the rudest man of Taiwan is here, just like others have said. The government should give him people skills training is they want to attract tourism. He was so rude and condescending. The door was open and he said to me... How did you get in?! He escorted me out and not a word to explain or suggest time to return. What a sad man. Make sure you don't just turn up during opening hours as you'll waste your time.
Asia E — Google review
I recently visited the Qianqi Seed Museum in Tainan and unfortunately had a very negative experience. We arrived at 10am, the time listed on their Facebook page, though Google showed 9:30am as the opening time. A man at the gate informed us they weren’t open, and when I pointed out the conflicting information, he dismissed it, saying he couldn’t change the times on Google. After we were turned away, we waited for an Uber and I sent them a message via Facebook, politely explaining the issue. To my surprise, the same man came out in an aggressive manner, angrily confronting me and asking why I had messaged him. I explained that we simply wanted to visit the museum, but his hostility only escalated. He showed no interest in helping us or resolving the confusion and was extremely rude. It's unfortunate that the staff seemed to have no regard for visitors, especially tourists. The museum could be a wonderful place to visit, but the unpleasant behavior we encountered made it impossible to enjoy. I would not recommend visiting Qianqi Seed Museum unless they improve their customer service and treat visitors with respect.

Exit through the kitsch gift shop! It is a quirky little museum, full of little crafty pockets, but, there's not a lot a space to roam and explore outside of the tour. It is not overly child friendly either. A grumpy staff member was pretty quick to tell off me and my 4 year-old child for walking down a garden path. The founders are very passionate about seeds, however, everything is in Chinese. If you do dig seeds, it's worth a visit.

Visitors can explore the old industrial facilities alongside modern installations while enjoying the picturesque landscaping and creative artistic expressions throughout the village. With multilingual text guides available, it offers a friendly reception service to visitors from around the world.
Loved the repurposing of sugar mill factories into a cultural village for the art of drumming. Plenty of spaces to explore at your own time and food is great too. Don't miss the drum performance! It's on at 11am and 3pm.

Came here due to the good reviews but it is really a place more suitable if you have younger kids and someone who can appreciate drums because the ticket price for adult is not very cheap (close to TWD500 each). Drum show is at 11am and 3pm. Then you can take a short train ride, do archery, play at some playgrounds and get some food as ticket come with TWD50 discount for food purchase.

Don't treat this as another art village, but a place mainly for the drums show and with some amusement park facilities. In general the 40 mins show is great (twice a day), but other facilities are a bit worn out and not well maintained.

Visited after arriving at the Chimei Museum and learning it was closed on Wednesdays… Ten Drum Village is within walking distance of the east parking lot of the museum. You may be tempted to call for a taxi but it takes no more than ten minutes to walk. Really great recovery. Arrived in time for a drum show. Vast space that rewards just wandering around and discovering. Cool food and beverage outlets. Worth the admission (we were skeptical)

Visitors can enjoy spring cherry blossoms, explore Japanese architecture nearby, and partake in various recreational activities such as walking or biking around the lake.
Nice place go with family, especially for children, do bring sun lotion in summer season.

If you can for the water park, it’s nice! Yet if you would like to walk around the reservoir, you may feel a little disappointed with the tickets cost about 120 or 200. It’s easy to get confused with the directions because the map is hard to understand and I only met ONE staff to show me the way of each attraction.

The highlight was a series of venues to commemorate the Japanese project designer with a true objective historical views disregard the sensitive nature of a Japanese occupation period.

Possibly the only place in Taiwan where I have felt ripped off and deceived. We got charged 450 to enter, thinking there must be something good to see at that price, when all is tired and run down with not even refreshments available. When we complained we were told that we had already received a discount because the water park was closed. There are many beautiful reservoirs in Taiwan, most of them free to access and with facilities that are better maintained than this. Not recommended.

Taiwanese restaurant
Restaurant
If you're on the hunt for an authentic culinary adventure in Tainan, look no further than Zhu Xin Ju. This charming old-world Chinese restaurant offers a unique dining experience with its market-driven tasting menu, where guests are treated to a delightful array of dishes crafted by the chef based on the freshest ingredients available that day. At Zhu Xin Ju, there’s no traditional menu; instead, diners can expect a generous spread of seven delectable courses accompanied by soup and dessert—all for an incredibly reasonable price.
Would definitely recommend this omakase experience. It is 700NT for 7 entrees and 1 soup and dessert. Every dish was so delicious. We devoured all of it so fast. We especially liked the pork belly and fried fish. The vibe is so fun too! It’s got some lanterns and an oldern feel. The manager walked around and chatted and recommended things to do in Tainan. Only caveat: 70% of the dishes for this menu was seafood! I thought the fish and seafood was incredible but if you don’t like seafood, maybe call ahead for the menu? Give this place a try!

Tasting menu is great. Not really a tasting menu but a set menu. Only a handful of tables so reservations are a must. Food is great. Service is great. Price is great. Take a bus or taxi if you don’t have a scooter. Not much parking nearby.

This place was amazing, I highly recommend making a booking and going to to check it out. The menu changes daily, depending on what produce is best at the market and everything tasted great. The owner was friendly and helpful and the decor had a traditional Taiwanese feel. Finally the meal was several courses for less than NT$600 per person, so go and enjoy a great experience.

Private kitchen serving Taiwanese cuisine. For TWD500 per head you get 7 dishes, a soup, steamed rice and desert. The dishes are seasoned with quite a lot of sugar and thus taste rather "sweet." The soup and the chicken soup rice noodle are oily. There are overlaps like Dongpo meat and pork rib soup, 2 fish dishes. Overall very good value for money and you can have a look at the hundred year house and antique furniture as well.
Michael C — Google review
There is no menu. You pay 500 each for a meal of 7 dishes and one soup. It is a lot of food, and good too! The restaurant itself is a hundred year old house. It has such great ambiance.

I was shocked when I saw my meal put next to shoes in the kitchen The food tasted fine, but it was all cold. I would expect better quality ingredients, but the fish were tiny chunks compared to the ones on tv shows. I would expect more with my 800$

Established in 1994, Wanpi World Zoo spans across 20 hectares and features a diverse range of attractions. Visitors can explore a vast reptile house and participate in animal feedings, making it an ideal destination for families with children. The zoo also offers additional amenities such as a water park and various rides, providing entertainment for all ages. Guests have the opportunity to rent and drive carts around the premises, adding an extra element of excitement for young visitors.
Awesome place for kids. Zoo + water park + some rides. We rented and drove around a cart, which the kids really liked. There are many animals which you can feed: goats, bunnies, capybara (have to make an appointment ahead of time), and others. We didn’t have time to see everything. The water park area has two big slides, a big water bed area, and timed water spouts. It was all pretty fun for the kids. We spent quite a bit of time here, so didn’t have time to see most of the animals. Definitely worth visiting more than once. And we hope to be back again.

The zoo is very spacious. And just like other reviews, can be toured in 2 hours. Good place to bring the kids, as they got kiddie pool. I'm also amazed as you interact with some animals without any harm, like the Alpacas. But the price to experience was just average, birds species are very repetetive throughout the zoo, they lack a lot of animals than what we expect, specially they had posted in their leaflet, logo and etc. i.e. tiger they got tiger on their arch, but there's no tiger.

(Translated by Google) On the southwestern coast of Taiwan, there was once a silent tragedy called Blackfoot Disease. The villages in Beimen, Xuejia, Butai, and Yizhu have been adjacent to the sea for many years, but they are also unknowingly entangled with this invisible disaster. Even in the mountainous areas of Tainan City, Yilan, Changhua and other places, sporadic traces of blackfoot disease can be found. In the 43rd year of the Republic of China (1954), the Taiwan Medical Association officially revealed this terrible disease for the first time. The reason is that people have been drinking deep well water containing excessive arsenic for a long time. Arsenic slowly accumulates in the body, like a sharp knife hidden in the blood vessels, eventually causing vascular necrosis in the lower limbs, and even inducing liver cancer, kidney cancer and bladder cancer. As many patients approach the end of their lives, they feel painful and lonely, but unable to change. In Beimen District, a corner house stands quietly - it was the "Blackfoot Clinic" that once brought hope to countless patients, and has now been transformed into Taiwan's first medical museum. The museum collects precious medical information on the diagnosis and treatment of blackfoot disease in the past, as well as pieces of stumps of patients soaked in antiseptics and preserved, placed in front of the cross of Christ, silently witnessing a period of unbearable pain and perseverance in the world. The starting point of all this is Wang Jinhe, a doctor known as the "father of black foot disease". At that time, he was not afraid of poverty and lack of resources, so he resolutely opened his clinic free of charge, and joined hands with the nearby Beimen Island Clinic and Beimen Island Church to provide the sick villagers with not only medicines and surgeries, but also spiritual comfort and companionship. During that period, Dr. Wang and countless unknown medical staff and church volunteers used every ounce of tenderness in their lives to prop up the patients who were on the verge of despair. As times change, clinics close down, and the shadow of blackfoot gradually disappears. But Wang Jinhe did not want this period of history to be forgotten. He donated the old clinic and, with the assistance of the Cultural Construction Committee, transformed it into a memorial hall, so that future generations can touch the history of struggle for survival and feel the brilliance of the doctors' kindness from the remaining objects and memories. Outside the memorial hall, Yonglong Valley flows quietly. This waterway was once the golden channel for transporting salt from the north gate during the Japanese colonial period. It was bustling in the early years, and now it has become the lifeline that fishermen rely on for their livelihood. Standing on the bridge, looking at the reflections of the houses on the water reflected in the waves, it seems that you can still hear the sound of salt boats rowing in the distance, as well as the indomitable song of life of the Beimen people.

(Translated by Google) This time when I traveled to Tainan, I specially came to the Taiwan Blackfoot Disease Medical Memorial Hall. Although it is not as lively as other tourist attractions, it is a very deep and warm place. Walking around will give people a deeper understanding of Taiwan's medical history and local stories. The memorial hall itself was rebuilt from the early blackfoot disease clinic. It retains the spatial configuration of the wards, clinics, pharmacies, operating rooms, etc., and also reproduces the working environment of the medical staff and the life of the patients at that time. There are many photos, newspapers, medical records and videos on display. From the arsenic pollution incident in the 1950s to how the medical team treated and accompanied the patients for a long time, the overall context is explained very clearly. The guided route is not long, but the information density is high, and the content is in-depth but not boring. Through old photos, physical restoration scenes and documentaries, you can get closer to that period of history. It is not just a simple "disease introduction", but a microcosm of land, public health, medical care and humanitarian spirit. I was particularly moved to see the doctors and nuns who were fearless of the environment, stationed in remote areas for many years, and used all their resources to take care of the patients. It is really admirable. This is not only a commemoration of blackfoot disease, but also a commemoration of the story of that generation's efforts to protect health and dignity. The overall space is simple and clean, with air conditioning and barrier-free ramps, suitable for the whole family to visit. There is also a small park and a blackfoot disease prevention and control monument outside, where you can take a break after the visit. In summary, this is a place worth knowing for every Taiwanese. It is not only a part of medical history, but also a touching Taiwanese story rooted in the land. Recommended to people who are interested in local history and social issues, and also suitable for schools, families and children to come for an educational visit. The Spring is a unique public plaza located in Tainan, offering a 1.54ha open-air space with a sunken park and public wading pool surrounded by tree-dotted islets. It was created below street level from what used to be an underground parking facility for a mall built in the 1980s. The area features grassy banks, shady trees, and walking paths, making it an ideal spot for families to visit on warm days.
Nice creative idea of this place that put the playground of small swimming pool in the middle area of the town. If you cannot think about anything, you just go to this place and walk in the water, look for the good environment around that place. In the evening or weekend, it always has the parents bring their children to play and enjoy together as a family. That’s quite a warm feeling for me.

Great place to come with the kids on a hot day. Lots of families with young children playing in the water. This place is one level down from the street. I think it used to be an underground shopping street before they demolished the building above and turned it into a water park. There is shade around the sides. Also has bathrooms. It is FREE to enter. This is a great part of Tainan close to lots of streets selling drinks snacks and many restaurants.

Xin Hua Old Street is a charming commercial street featuring Baroque-style architecture dating back to the 1920s. Visitors can explore the quaint streets, sample delicious street food, and browse through various shops. Additionally, nearby attractions such as the Wushantou reservoir area, Tait & Co's Old Merchant House, and the French-designed Eternal Golden Castle offer further opportunities for exploration. The area's historical significance is evident in its buildings, most of which were constructed during Japanese rule.
Great for history. People in Xin-Hua stare at outsiders (foreigners) a lot, though, making us feel uncomfortable. We aren't animals in a zoo, we are people just like you. "Take a picture. It'll last longer".

This is a very nice historical street. It got a lot of historical buildings. You can see the old glorious prosperous city Xinhua once was. It is still a very busy city but the “old money” was running long and deep here. A lot of wealthy families were oriented from this area. Some are still living nearby in the city. The merchants here on the street are very different from other modern business districts. You should checkout some of them to see what made those merchants rich during those glorious days.

This is a short old street, most of the buildings were built during the Japanese rule. It may not be particularly special in the past, but it is very precious now because of uncontrolled development in Taiwan recent decades, so the local residents are exceptionally commendable because they were voluntarily retain. Old Street should not only be food and shopping, the building can tell us more about people's spiritual pursuits and work attitudes in the past.

Some stairs lead to nowhere or dead ends, while others require climbing through holes, creating an intriguing play of light and space. For architecture enthusiasts, this is a must-see attraction. Additionally, visitors can indulge in delicious desserts at the cafe within the building.
New building in the prime area of Tainan. You go in from the front door which is in the narrow alley not the back door located in the street. The whole concept is to reproduce the alley and lane of Tainan in the old days. It is designed by a Japanese architect 藤本壯介 who started the project back to 2010. Tour divided into two parts; one is introduction of the building with many stairs and the other one is enjoy the dessert with tour in another part of the building. My tour guide is very knowledgeable and well explained the stories behind the building.

The guided tour offers an engaging and insightful way to understand this architectural wonder that represents the richness of local history and design marvel. A lot of walking required (going down the stairs) though, may not be suitable for everyone.
Tan G — Google review
Very boring place. Upper floors are just seating areas, and the skygarden has some half dead plants. 200 a person tho you can use it at the cafe. AC was nice but that was the highlight. Probably will not come again

What an architectural marvel! This building is built around a nested set of staircases that represents the architects feeling as he strolls through the streets of Tainan. Some of these stairs leads to nowhere, some of them dead end, some of them require you to climb through holes, etc. The way he play with lights and spaces is pretty amazing! If your architectural buff, you definitely don't want to miss this. Moreover, you can enjoy delicious desserts on the other half of the building. You can choose to sit indoor, semi outdoor, or surround yourself with greenery while enjoying ice cream. It's not a very popular or a well-known place, but it's rather unique and should not be missed.

Beautiful picturesque interior from every angle. Came in to get out of the sun and put my feet up over a nice cup of Joe. Take your time to take in the sights of all 5 floors, their leafy al fresco roof garden and of course their gift shop. Lovely spot.
Matthew L — Google review
We enjoyed the short guided tour about the building and the gelato in the cafe. On our visit, we had discount for our entry tickets and coupons for our food in the cafe. Thus pricing was reasonable.
M Y — Google review
Lots of space in the building so thankfully it didn’t feel crowded at all even though there were a lot of customers waiting right at opening time (on a weekday). The girl at the ticket desk was a little rude and the food wasn’t good but it’s fine if you just want a place to hang out. You’ll have to pay a fee to enter, though, so keep that in mind!
Grace B — Google review
A fancy ice cream shop hidden in the alley, I think the building overall is cool, and the interior is comfy. Somehow the ice cream just ruined the place, it was not tasty and I need to carry it to a different floor while my ice cream was abt to melt. Maybe provide different product might fit better in the space, also I would recommend ppl to come during the weekdays before closing.

Tainan Zuojhen Fossil Park is Taiwan's only Museum-School Integrated fossil museum, featuring the Tsai-liao Fossil Museum, Natural History Education Hall, and Guangrong Elementary School. The park showcases prehistoric fossils, including the famous Zuozhen Man fossil found in the Cailiao River Basin. Visitors can explore interactive displays of human skull fragments and model dinosaurs. The park also hosts exhibitions and activities throughout the year.
Only got about an hour in cos of our schedule but would have loved to stay for much longer. Not sure about food options here unfortunately but content for the 5 exhibits in total could last for hours. Also some quiet play areas outdoors for the kids which is a bonus when they need a break from all the amazing information.
Jet A — Google review
The place is beautiful and clean. It is not that big but it has 5 buildings that you can roam around and learn some history stuff. Good place for kids and adults as well.
Romari J — Google review
The fossil museum started from a school 🏫 which had field trips to collect fossils near the water. I think it grew to be a fine establishment. There's various buildings to walk through but wheel-chair friendly. They have some creative exhibits and interactive learning or just plain fun artsy stuff. But the descriptions could be better. The other thing is the docents or rather, just museum employees don't help the kids who can't figure out the exhibits. Another one was talking loudly on her phone. Overall, it's great but not necessarily a must-see unless you have kids or are a kid.
Ally L — Google review
Very recommended place, especially with children. No surprise, it's about fossils and dinosaurs, but there are many sides things to be discovered. It's not big or largely abundant, but it's carefully designed to enhanced what is on display and proposes a good guidance for the visit. It's also recent, so there is the clean and modern style of today's architecture, but also with many multimedia experiences. It's 100 TWD for adults, 50 for children or seniors. It's recommended to book online for a slight discount. Parking is not convinient if you want to find a free parking (you have to park at least 5 min walk away) but there is plenty of private parking.
Martin M — Google review
The museum is spacious and thoughtfully designed to guide you from ancient times to the era of modern humans. You can explore fascinating fossils and animal models, read interesting facts, and appreciate the stylish interior and architecture.
Marek B — Google review
Great Museum for Fossil. Especially if you have children. The entire experience is incredibly well-planned. The exhibits are laid out in a logical and easy-to-follow manner, guiding you through a fascinating journey from the ancient past to modern times. What makes it so special is how interactive and engaging everything is. The displays are not just static fossils behind glass; they're designed to be a truly educational and hands-on experience that captivates both kids and adults.

A place where you can learn about the history of ZuoZhen and the discovery of the fossils here. Very interesting museum where you can learn a lot of about the species existed on Earth a long time ago. The last part of the museum explains why Wooly Mammoth and Rhino (which evolves into today's Elephant and Rhino , once were distributed vastly on Earth now are facing extinction.

Barclay Memorial Park, situated in Tainan's East District, is a serene and expansive park dedicated to Rev. Dr. Thomas Barclay, a Scottish missionary who lived in Taiwan for many years. The park features winding trails and footbridges that meander through gardens, ponds, streams, and seasonal flower displays. Surrounded by residential buildings, it's a popular spot for locals to take leisurely walks among unique plants and farmland.
Beautiful, tranquil little park with a stream and lots of trees. Well maintained. Lots of benches and a lovely place for birdwatching.

A thin and long park beside Zhonghua East Road is set in remembrance to Dr. Barclay who preached in Tainan and ever saved the citizen. A stone tablet and monument can be seen inside where the story is inscribed. The public park is open and wide, with pond and paths in trees, a nice place to walk! One can come here to know more about the history of the Christian's merit and about the city. It is also a good outdoor place to spend a leisure time walking around.

We went there when it was Chinese New Year and they had some shows, including the horse riding show. And the whole farm is so very big! They have boat riding too! You can also go to the hanging bridge if you're too adventurous 😁
Mary O — Google review
The only activity that we really enjoyed was the Ukrainian circus performance. Think it was quite sad that there were only 5 of us in the audience. Wished more people could appreciate their performances. The park on the whole wasn’t well maintained, paint was peeling and everything looked old. Wasn’t much to do.
Jennifer Y — Google review
I spent five hours here with a group. I would not visit again. I know paint fades quickly in Taiwan, but it really made this place look very old and not well-cared for. If you have kids, they will probably enjoy some of the activities like the bumper boats and playground. However, there is very little seating around the park for adults. The restaurant is ok; food and flavors tasted alright. I My main problem with this place though is their treatment of their animals. I came across some horses tethered near the horse arena. Their heads were just hanging there as the chain/rope was too short for them to graze, and no water was provided. The little pony was in direct sunlight without the ability to move into shade. They seemed listless. Later, I watched the horse show. The tricks were performed well. But, the horses all seemed unhappy and stressed. Some appeared ungroomed, one of their coats was uneven. One appeared a bit too thin. I didn’t see the other animals at this farm, but I hope that they are faring better. I hope the farm improves their treatment of the horses. The other show I saw was the acrobatics show in the amphitheater; they did a good job! And they’re the only reason I’m giving this place two stars instead of one.
Leah C — Google review
Had so much fun here! There is a 2023 New year event going on while I’m visiting. Lots of stage performance, free tent rental and great foods to enjoy while bathing under the sun. I will defiantly come back for the event 😍
YU H — Google review
I visited here for a workshop.. unfortunately it was in the middle of a typhoon and the weather was not pleasant for any outdoors activity. Despite that, we were able to walk around a little and admire the landscape. If not for the storm clouds, we would've been able to see the stars shine through. The path around the farm was quaint, intimate, and peaceful especially when there was finally a gap in the storm. At night, the frogs chirped almost too loudly, like a personal chorus for our walk. It was late August when we arrived so imagine our surprise when we saw a single pair of fireflies in the distance. The roads were littered with debris from the storm and we had to be careful to watch our steps. The puddles reflected the street lights and when we crossed over them, the insects buzzed around our heads incessantly. The rain started again after we wandered back through the empty roads, and twisting paths. It was a little hard to see since the lights turned off around 11. If only the wind blew a little stronger and swept the dark clouds away. The bittersweetness of the experience lingers and I hope to return one day when the stormy atmosphere changes for us.

H L — Google review
The artworks are of high quality and well-maintained. The place is a quiet village so you may want to keep your voice down to avoid disturbing the villagers. The artworks are close to one another, but can be tricky to find. So keep your eyes open and look in various corners. The public transport in Tainan is next to non-existent. So getting a chartered car is in your favour. Planning the trip to all the outskirts area and getting a car is the most efficient way that we can think of. We did not plan for this destination at all... so we haphazardly got on the HSR from Kaoshiung to Tainan and took a cab there (~1300 NTD for a return trip to the HSR station). The next day, we were smarter and booked the cab the whole day for ~1800 NTD for 6hrs.

We strolled on the banks and looked at the many light installations which are very attractive especially with the reflection on the water. The trees are lit up with lights of different colors. With many people enjoying the lights and food from the many food stalls along the water and in the Old Street, the atmosphere is festive. We took the Brown Line bus back to Sin Ying train station.
