Quick visit of the fort, you can go on top of the tower. They have an app which allow you to travel using AR, helping you to see how the full complexe was prior the current status. A small museum is made, it is good to start form there. The tickets for foreigners is 70NT and for Student it is 35NT provided you show a physical student card ( photo on the phone doesn’t work). If you are coming by car, plenty of free and paid parking lots are available.

Beautiful Fort with red bricks. The view of Tainan from the watchtower is amazing. Not much to learn about the fort other than a room with it's history timeline. It is just a fort, so other than looking at it and take pictures, there is not much to do. I also don't understand why you can't enter the basement.

A good museum to learn more about the history of Tainan. Not everything has translations so be ready with google translate. There was a busy little market going on outside when I was there (Saturday afternoon)

A good historical place to visit and very interesting since it captured the influence of the Dutch in the past. While I could understand Chinese, it was helpful to have English explanations too. Place can be a little hot during summer and parking can be hard to find around the area. Seems like the gate is not properly located on Google maps as well so we ended up having go around before finding it.

Historical place which gives a peek into Dutch colonial history in Taiwan. It is a nice place to hangout. Recommend taking the free walking tour around the town including the fort. There are some stairs and it might not be wheelchair friendly.

Anping Fort is the oldest fortress in Taiwan. Located in Tainan, it is a landmark of immense historical significance, often considered the birthplace of modern Taiwanese history. We can see the site is a mix of ruins and later constructions: -The Red-Brick Watchtower -Fort Zeelandia Museum -Remnants of the Original Walls -Historic Well & Archaeological Sites -Statue of Koxinga

It’s a beautiful place. You should climb to the top of the tower to enjoy the distant view, and it’s even better if you take some time to read the historical information.

If you like history and are into calligraphy then you might like to come here for a leisure stroll to look around. It will cost you 70NT though. Sure the banyan tree in the building is cool but if you have been to other places with banyan trees this might not be so interesting for you. The souvenir shop doesn’t have much stocked and what it does have you can buy anywhere. It’s not a large place to wall around. My kids were bored (10 and 4) but they did enjoy feeding the fish and watching the heron hunt. I’d say that was the highlight. Overall for me personally I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it. Lots of mozzys and for me not a lot of personal interest aside from the banyan tree overgrowth.

This place feels really special, especially since there are not a lot of places with this much history still standing in Taiwan. Would recommend to visit. Usually less people here compated to fort Zeelandia. Can visit with the same ticket as for Tait & Co. Take your time to explore all the rooms and see how the trees are holding the walls together. The place can feel a bit spooky.

Hauntingly beautiful. I felt like I was walking through one of Guillermo del Toro's dreams. I can't believe that it's all one tree! Stairs strategically placed throughout the abandoned warehouse allow you to see various parts of the tree from different vantage points. Nature is extraordinary! Lots of photo opps.

Great must see location in Tainan. The Banyan tree completely took over the building. This gives great opportunities for cool pictures. The recent update with mirror structures is nice idea.

A calm and cooling spot in the summer heat. Entry ticket gives access to the Calligrapher's memorial exhibit, Tait Merchant building, the maze-like tree house, small cafe, and gift shop Even if you're not interested in history or museums, it's a quick interesting experience

Enjoyable cultural attraction. Not all exhibits had English translation. Bearing in mind, it’s the tree house we came to see, not the attached small museum…it was a bonus.

New place for this revitalise old building to new retail space concept. Not such a big place. Not many artsy things, there are few nice wall murals. Limited food and drinks options. Better to visit at night.

Loved this kind of creative places which are plentiful in Taiwan. How they repurpose old spaces with a fresh presence to the neighbourhood. The nights are beautiful in Tainan thanks to the ambience.

This place is not spacious, there are many painted walls and many cafe,there are also souvenir shops, when I came yesterday there was a show that was entertaining

A great place to roam around and discover new things at every corner. Lots of little places, restaurants, cafés. We bumped into the first place which has lot's of small stalls where local artists/manufacturers display their goods that can be purchased on the spot. There's a little restaurant/bar inside that place too and we ordered spaghetti Bolognese and hot chicken wings. The spaghetti and the drinks were incredibly good. We will definitely come back before we leave.

Incredibly beautiful museum. I enjoyed it, and learned a lot. They have a big collection of weapons, music instruments, statues and art. I bought the english audio tour. It is a good addition to learn extra but there is already alot of english text around the museum so an audio tour is not required. Sometimes when i wanted to use the english audio tour device it said: this chapter is in manderin only, which I think was very weird. After de viewing the museum there is a nice gift shop, a 7-11 and a Starbucks. I would recommend this museum and the beautiful park around the museum building.

The Chimei Museum is absolutely stunning - one of the most impressive and unexpected finds in Taiwan. The grand, European-style architecture and beautiful park setting make it worth visiting even before you step inside. The museum’s collections are world-class, from ancient weaponry and artifacts to one of the largest violin and instrument collections on Earth. The exhibits are beautifully presented, and the mix of art, history, and culture makes for an unforgettable experience. Don’t miss the virtual concert in the music hall - it’s a wonderful surprise that ties the whole visit together.

Beautiful museum in a beautiful setting. I loved the classical music playing from speakers in the park. The arms and armour gallery was my unexpected highlight. I also really liked the musical instruments gallery. The fine art gallery was also very nice but hard to compare when you’ve been to the galleries in Europe.

Excellent service - golf cart took us from parking lot to museum and back! Staff readily available to answer questions. Very clean, bright, cool and comfortable. Even have small Italian style restaurant (a bit expensive for lunch) and Starbucks and 7-11.

It's a great and fantastic museum!! So vast and amazing. They are collecting so many fine arts, and my fav is animal museum. You also can do picnic outside museum, they have small lake and bridge. So many photo spots

Great museum and the place is huge with lots of interesting collections and shows to check out. I especially enjoyed the exhibit where they had their Taxidermy collection with animals from around the world. very cool. The day we were there, there were lots of school kids there too, so it was a bit crowded, but still having enough space to move around.

Splendid experience at the museum good for family and sportive individuals who like to spend time on the massive park in front of the museum. Free entrance for some parts of the exhibits. The ticket is around 200 to 300 per person. Food and restaurants inside the hall. Souvenir is avaliable.

Very cool historic departmental store and worth checking out. Recommend taking the elevator to the top and check out the roof before working your way down. We had a lovely view of the sunset from the roof top. The departmental store had lots of interesting items and worth spending plenty of time there. We got some earrings there and some tile coasters. Very happy with the purchase and the experience.

Has many different goods available. From household goods to fashion goods, one can find things that they like. They have quite a variety of Taiwan edible goodies on the first floor. The 5th has a cafe which serves delicious pastries and the soft toufu dessert. There is even a small souvenir shop on the top floor! Must go! Definitely worth a visit.

A "must see" if you are interested in a relic from the Japanese colonial period. Interesting to learn that Taiwan was once ruled by the Japanese for half a century and that this area was once known as the "Ginza" of Tainan. Of note, the restrooms were tiny and the tofu pudding desserts served on the 5th floor cafe were delicous but servings were on the petite size. They also require each person to order something. Displays were in Chinese only but you can learn alot more about this relic doing a web search.

This is a very historic old building but also has a cool set of small shops inside it. There is a big queue to use the elevator, and it's tiny, so just take the stairs. Speaking of the stairs, they are very steep! The cafe at the top is cool and has some tasty treats on the menu for reasonable prices.

The cafe at the top is very stylish and serves nice desserts and drinks. The caramel pudding with “Taiwanese macaron” was a real treat, and the red tea float was also very nice. A great place to relax. Minimum order for sitting is pretty much just buy something.

A historical place reminiscent of the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan. Structurally well preserved with modern updates that do not affect its historical stature. Worth a visit.

Beautiful gardens within the walls, free entrance. There is TWD40000 fee to go into the temple enclosure and see the many exhibits and halls dedicated to learning, prayers and festivals. Not a vast amount to see but still fascinating and well displayed.

A wonderful historic site. Raw and no frills. A place of worship so be respectful. Just across the pedestrian walk to the main entrance on the opposite side of the street is a Shop selling home grown Taiwanese Cocoa products. The chocolate ice cream a a treat for chocolate lovers and refreshing in the Taiwan heat

A quaint little temple in Tainan. I'd enjoy it more if it wasn't so hot and humid that day. I was fortunate to listen to the in-house ensemble when they were rehearsing. Many thanks and much appreciated.

A very well organized shrine/ place of worship for Confucius. The ground is huge and you would only need to pay for the admission fee if you want to see the main temple (the admission fee is extremely cheap/ we could have easily spent more time here but we had more stops to hit up throughout the day.) I learned a lot about who he was and how the rituals of honoring him are carried out these days. I would say this is one of the must visit places if you’re in Tainan!

Peaceful place, friendly staff, nice for morning or afternoon walks. One part of the temple has an entrance fee of NTD 40.

Beautiful Grounds and walking paths. The gardens are lovely. Grounds keepers are very friendly! The pond is cute with sweet turtles of all sizes.

The Sicao Green Tunnel (四草綠色隧道) is one of Tainan's most famous and picturesque tourist attractions. It's often called the "Mini Amazon of Taiwan" due to its dense, overhanging mangrove forests that create a beautiful, serene green canopy over the water. The Sicao Green Tunnel offers a unique and beautiful nature experience that is hard to find elsewhere in Taiwan. The stunning visual of the green canopy reflecting on the water makes for unforgettable photos and a very peaceful escape from the city. It's a highlight of any trip to Tainan.

The day we were there was pretty hot, wearing a life jacket made it even hotter. The views along the green tunnel were very special, Amazon forest like. The tunnel was narrow and trees were hanging low, the guide had to call out constantly to lower your head to pass through. It was an interesting experience.

Would be nice if they can also do the tour in English. It was worth it even though it was raining. Getting the tickets were complicated and not straightforward. It was still worth it.

Second grade world class wet land - $200 NT per adult, can purchase on site or over the agencies such as klook trip dot com. Spend roughly 30 mins on board and the guide was so helpful and funny, knowledgeable about the eco area. NO ENGLISH GUIDE, unfortunately. Rural area, plan your travel accordingly. I waited an hour for the return bus.

It was an experience. It took 30 minutes as compared to the other one that took 70 minutes. It’s 200ntd a person and was basically an explanation of types of mangroves. The tour was unfortunately in Chinese but if you are interested in seeing it it’s not that bad.

It's a nice park for a run or a stroll. It's not a must-visit in Tainan but it's pleasant. There are many birds hanging about. There is one goose who was not afraid of people one bit and insisted that I take a portrait of him. I obliged, of course.

A historic park built by Japanese when they were here, nowadays it has been a popular place for all citizens daily life . But it should be improved continuously. Please do something Tainan mayor!!

I love this park it’s so calm and well maintained!

Relaxing place. If you want to just sit and pause for a while, this a good place to go. This place is huge and many people come and go here. Some of them were playing, eating, walking, jogging and some are just sitting while listening to the sound of the wind. It's also a good place to bring your kids and your dogs or cats.

This area of park has it flower blossoms that looks like cherry blossoms from a far. Small area in the park that's good for taking photos. Seasonal bloom during winter season so not all months has flower to bloom.

Old city charm and lots of historical buildings and history. Take a slow stroll and walk around. Shrimp crackers stalls popped up everywhere. Nearby jetty is a nice open air break. Overall a relaxing stroll along an old city.

Walking through Anping Old Street feels like stepping back in time, with its narrow lanes, historic charm, and lively atmosphere. One of my favorite finds was the coffin bread, a thick toast filled with creamy seafood or chicken—it’s both delicious and fun to eat! During my visit to Anping, I had the chance to try a traditional Chinese massage with oil, and it was exactly what I needed. After walking around all day, my body was aching, and I was feeling a bit under the weather. The massage therapist used a combination of deep pressure and smooth oil techniques to relieve tension and improve circulation. What stood out the most was how they incorporated traditional Chinese medicine principles. The therapist focused on specific pressure points and energy pathways, helping to ease body aches and restore balance. The herbal-infused oil added to the experience, providing a warm, soothing sensation that left me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. If you’re ever in Anping and need relief from travel fatigue or body aches, I highly recommend trying a Chinese oil massage. It’s not just relaxing—it’s a true healing experience!

A wonderful and bustling spot with lots of great food! It’s right next to Anping Fort, making it easy to explore both places in one trip.

Best place in Tainan to find interesting artists, enjoy a walk, find snacks and dried fruit. Kids always have a wonderful time with the games and so many things to see. Prices are unbeatable here.

I came following Google Maps, it was fun, following the video. When I arrived, the road wasn't very long, and all the shops were selling the same rice crackers. I was very confused. Is there nothing else to sell? I drove a long way but there was nothing. I guess I didn't walk to the right place.

A great walking tour destination for people who would want to know more about the early history of Tainan and Taiwan. You can find the An Ping Matsu Temple and the old site of the An Ping Fort (Fort Zeelandia), the latter also housing the Fort Zeelandia Museum and the observation tower where you can have a 360-degree view of the surrounding area.

Came here many times! Even though it’s a tourist spot, the vibe feels just right. The street is lined with old local houses and well-preserved buildings that give it a really nostalgic charm. It’s mixed with bars, cafes, and snack shops that make your Tainan evening feel more lively and relaxed at the same time. I really enjoy walking through, especially when the lanterns light up at night. It’s not a long street, but the mix of culture, food, and lights makes it a place I never get bored of :)

5 minutes on foot from Yongle Market. Surprisingly, it was quiet with couples of tourists were there, meaning we could slowly and enjoyably wander around without worrying of the crowd. The alley itself was small, short but very nice with some artistic coffee and shops. The lanterns and the old houses made it even more stunning, day and night.

Absolutely gorgeous little street. Would recommend coming in the day and night, so you see the calmness of the day and the glow of the streetlamps at night. There's lots of cute little bars and eateries, and places to get souvenirs and crafts.

Cool street but quite a few storefronts were closed or empty. Visited around 3pm in November. Street is about 1 block long. Easy to find on google maps.

Night visit 5 🌟 Good vibe, and lots of photo opportunities. The shops are all pretty interesting to look at there are a few eateries. There is definitely something for everyone here.

Definitely a beautiful site at night. Street market is okay (night markets are better - check out my other review for night markets). Food is great. I would recommend to go at night but early enough that you don’t miss out on shops as they close by 9 pm

The idea of salty air and sandy toes sounds absolutely perfect. I could really use some time to just relax and unwind or just doing absolutely nothing at all! A little escape from the everyday hustle is definitely on my mind.

I went sunbathing here, very quiet, and hardly anyone around. No swimming in this area allowed. Peaceful and some artwork around.

Nice place to visit, ocean friends, beach and black sand *seem like signature local beach in 🇹🇼. The place is suitable to have a stunning sunset/sunrise view and picnic also. Just relax and chilling wherever you want. The place is near downtown Tainan and easy to visit.

A highly recommend place to visit if you are in Tainan. It has ocean, beach, well managed trails in the forest area, can go for a small hike to go to An-ping harbor which is extremely nice. There are not many nice food places to choose from here but there are some food stalls if you are okay with those.

nice beach with smoooooth sand. be sure to bring a Sandle because there could be sea shells on the beach. when we went there was no swimming allowed. the water was just right and not too cold. there are lifeguard on patrol. moderate amount of people but not too crowded. definitely a place to come see in tainan. view of the sea is always the most calming thing ever. sound of little waves sound of the beach. and while going in enjoy the little food stalls

Nice beach located on a little island. If you're into surfing they're renting boards and suits. But also nice for just a relaxed hangout with a cold drink. Sadly there are loads of cigarette filters as well as quite a bit of rubbish everywhere on the beach.

I’ve been to this place several times, but it’s difficult to catch the perfect weather for photographing the sunset. The fields weren’t as accessible as they used to be, where you could walk in, play with the salt, and take pictures. Due to the festival, it was crowded, so I’d probably recommend visiting during the week to avoid too many tourists.

Nice place to visit and learn how salt is harvested from the sea. We arrived quite late and had a good view of the sunset as well. The mountains of sea salt on each tile was marvelous. Was made to understand that it will be harvested and sent to a factory closeby for cleaning and processing before being sold.

It's ok. Can get some interesting mirror pictures in the water. Was a 50 minute drive for us. No entrance fee. They were running a free tram to take you out a little bit further to see the oyster beds and learn a little bit (in Mandarin). But the tram ends with mostly a sales presentation slideshow , not a "movie" and then you enter a sales room for various salt products. You could try a free sample toothbrush pre loaded with salt toothpaste.

Unique historical attraction. They must have to reproduce the salt stacks regularly because salt is obviously not collected this way anymore. Amazing location for capturing sunset. There were many tourists and locals on a weekend evening at dusk.

A brief guide of salt field history. Nice to spend some time here. Plenty of parking, clean restrooms, snacks, and a short trolley tour.

It's a free protected attraction + mini activity. Plenty of parking space. They also got a souvenir shop items made out of salt.

Where the river deltas of Tainan meet the ocean are old salt collection fields. You can experience how they gathered sea salt in ancient times. There is a small golf cart tour you can take and a gift shop full of products they make from this special salt such as handsoap, shampoos, bath additives, lotion, toothpaste, etc. They even have soft serve ice cream, tea and Cafe lattes with this local salt added

We visited at 1730hrs. Most of the foods stalls were closed or closing. There still some shops in operation. Its a long streets linking to the next market streets. Along the way, there are temples to visit and souvenirs shop to shop. We had dessert at a nice shop for a break. Its still crowded with local and tourists. Nice to visit.

Lots of food options, good place to walk around for good local tainan dishes. Next to shuixiangong, can walk over to continue food hunt. There are different stalls nearby too.

visited the market in the early afternoon and is was quite busy already. tried the 蚵肉嗲 (fried dish filled with oysters and veg) and it was very good definitely worth a try!

I loved local markets, especially those on Taiwan as their produce tends to be very local, farmed/caught within 200km of the stalls. You can also see the various food stalls practicing their decade old craft to produce delightful local treats. We had the large portion noodle soup with dumplings & fishball for NT$105 which is filling for 2 adults. I also witnessed a stall making Bao Ping skin and the vegetable wrap that it is used for cost NT$60 for the regular white one & NT$65 for my the green wrap. I wished I stayed at a place that has a kitchen so I can cook some of the awesome seafood from the local market.

Really fun for searching different combinations of local life. The wet market offers wide range of produce, herbs, traditional snacks on top of regular offering. The second floor is like going back 50 years. Mix residence, old business and young hip coffee shop, vintage shop. Not a lot of shops, but sure is fun to explore some unique experience.

The old city neighborhoods are always my favorite destinations when I travel and Tainan's old districts are the best. Taiwan's night markets are world famous for the food scene but in my opinion old markets like this have much better local food and atmosphere. This market does get super crowded on the weekends but the quiet side streets are much more interesting anyway.

When you're in the market do try the classic treat, non fried spring roll, it's so refreshing. You'll struggle to find a rubbish bin after you have finished it though, so be careful holding on to the plastic bag, as it'll have water from the roll accumulated down at the bottom. There are many shops worth trying, not even shown on google map, so just keep walking down this street for at least 15min. In the evening, the area beyond the market becomes a mini night market, well lite & with a clean and spacious toilet, so definitely worth a look if you are keen to experience night market but find them either too far, dirty or inconvinent for toilet break.

The temple is very beautiful. I came on the 1st of the Lunar month, they were holding a prayer ceremony. It felt very sacred. Do not sure how to get there, if they had a map, or introduction it would be better. Opposite is the Quan Cong temple. The red wall outside is very beautiful in pictures.

The vibe here is sacred but cozy. I loved how the space feels both ancient and peaceful, with beautiful old architecture and little details to explore. It was nice to see locals coming in to pray and go about their rituals. I also made my own DIY amulet and really enjoyed the experience. A quiet but special spot in Tainan that’s definitely worth stopping by.

One of the four ancient temples in this area with about 400 years history at time of this visit. Traditional Chinese temple design, good place to visit. Temple is Taoist as base, small Buddhist section at side of temple. Similar to lots of Chinese temples.

Beautiful temple with hundred years of history. Must visit when in Tainan

A particularly interesting temple with a number of fine paintings, stone tablets and bas relief sculpture, some dating back as far as the Ming Dynasty. Should you find yourself in the neighborhood, inquire at Share House Cafe nearby if you are interested in getting a terrific and scholarly overview of its history and the symbolism and meaning of the artwork contained therein.

Very educational to see and learn about mazu. It is a very peaceful place with a fair amount of worshipers.

I don't mind if the historic building is under renovation, I applaud them taking steps to maintain their heritage. However, still charging full price 70NTD entrance ticket is abit absurd. Considering most of the building is still under renovation, and there's only a small part of it was opened for visitors. In it's current state it's definitely not worth spending 70NTD to go in. Wait until the renovation is done if you wanna visit inside.

Currently under renovation and slightly underwhelming I visited Chikan Tower during my recent stay in Tainan and unfortunately the timing wasn’t ideal. The main structure is currently under renovation and mostly covered in scaffolding which takes away quite a bit from the experience. What’s accessible right now feels limited and not really worth the ticket price unless you are particularly interested in ticking off landmarks. There is a pleasant little pond with red fish and a landscaped rock fountain that adds a nice touch to the grounds but it’s not enough to make up for the missing centerpiece. If you’re short on time or traveling on a budget I’d say hold off on visiting Chikan Tower until the renovation is complete. Tainan has plenty of beautiful temples and historical sites to explore that offer a more fulfilling experience right now. Check for updates before you go – it could be worth it once the restoration work is done but at the moment it’s more of a pass.

Date of visit: 23 August 2025 There is a small entrance fee, but it is free for people from Tainan. Unfortunately, most of the place is under renovation. We will visit again when it is completed.

I've visited this place in evening it has a nice view but not so many English translations that can help more foreign visitors to enjoy the history. Some of the areas are under rennovations and also there is a 70 NT dollars entrance fee.. Overall its such a good experience...

The main building is under renovation and the exterior is wrapped up. Temporary may not be suitable for photo taking but it still a main attraction in Tainan. Better wait until renovation works completed

It was fun just walking through the lanes, soaking in the lively atmosphere and energy of the crowd. Yes, it was crowded — but that’s part of the charm! The buzz of locals and tourists enjoying the night made it feel like a true cultural experience. Highly recommended if you're visiting Tainan and want a taste of authentic Taiwan. Go hungry, bring some cash, and get ready for a night full of flavor and fun!

I liked how the overall night market layout works where you have concentrated area for food, games and etc. Good to go early to ensure you have place for dine in. We tried their local Tainan noodles and of course the oyster omelette. What I like about Taiwanese food is they always find ways to include vegetables to make it a balanced meal. This market is different from Shilin night market is due to the variety of local cuisine and not the same items at every store. We had fun playing games too. Childhood games that will bring back memories for locals.

This night market has variety of things such as shopping for clothes for infants, toddlers, adults, and home textiles, eateries, toy shops with local and international characters, arcade games, ballon shooting, jewellery, electronics, mobile phone protection cases that are very fancy and colorful and other knick-knacks. Overall a great experience to visit here

Garden Night Market is easily one of the best night markets in all of Taiwan and is a must visit when you're in Tainan. We made it a priority to stop by during our one night in Tainan and were not disappointed. This outdoor, open air market is full of street food vendors lined up in aisles, along with areas for children's games. The food options here really stood out. As a vegan, I was surprised at how much more I could find here than other night markets. I had some incredible fried stinky tofu as well as some famous sweet potato bites, and watching the mastermind's behind these prepare the food was such a treat. There were also plenty of drinks to be had such as fruit juices to wash everything down. Some vendors will have dedicated seating areas for you if you purchase their food. For vegans, look out for vegetarian items and ask to make sure there are no eggs or dairy in your items. After having been to a few in Taipei and Kaohsiung, there's no competition that the best food and vibes are here in Tainan. Please come visit and make sure to not leave hungry because there are so many options.

In my opinion, this is the best night market I've visited in Taipei so far. A wide variety of food options, plus a sort of flea market with new goods. If you want, you can also participate in karaoke on the large stage or just listen. Great.

Recommended. One of the largest outdoor markets in Taiwan. Not many repeat stalls apart from games. Lots of classics like Taiwan fried chicken, stinky tofu, bubble tea, steamed fish and oysters, shallot pancake, sausage and noodles.

This is probably the top two, largest night market in the city, with Wusheng being larger. The difference is temporal. Being open on both Saturdays and Sundays, while Wusheng is open on Fridays and Saturdays gives Tainan Garden the monopoly for Sundays and the vendors know it, the crowds flow and the aisles are thick with hungry customers. If it's Sunday, there's no better place to be then right here, though I would consider the variety of foods here to be less than Wusheng and Xiaobei night markets. In general though the nigh markets are scattered throughout the city. It's the vendors that hop from neighborhood to neighborhood, to meet local demand.

Worth a visit if you’re in the area sightseeing but not necessarily worth visiting solely on its own as there isn’t so much to see. We visited late in the day on a rainy weekday so we had the place to ourselves but didn’t need much time to get around the grounds.

I was expecting a bit more, from the name and reviews. It's also not a big as I thought. All outdoors so go when good weather. A walk around the castle wall is pleasant and interesting to see the replica cannons ( one of the smaller ones is genuine). Good that it has been preserved as historical.

A beautiful place. It's not surprising that it didn't even protect Taiwan for 20 years, since, apart from its modern cannons, it was already outdated when it was built. Other countries have already built forts made of reinforced concrete. Still, a beautiful place, especially if you're heading to Yuguang Island anyway. You get a glimpse of the artillery of the time, although all but one of the cannons are replicas.

The Castle is an interesting place to visit. They provide you with explanation of its history and the archaeological research done there. It is all translated into English. There is not a lot to see. You can leisurely visit this place in under an hour.

Very relaxing place with good historical values. The staff at the entrance were friendly and professional. I went during Culture Day and therefore entered for free. Visiting just the Castle might not really be worth it, but it's a great addition to your itinerary in Anping.

A lot of reviews are misleading and it confused me too. This location is the national park headquarters. This is only a building with a small museum. No boat ride here. There are a few ponds around with some birds but if you're interested in seeing the black faced spoonbill this isn't the place either, the conservation is further north. Worth a stop if you have your own wheels but otherwise you're better off heading straight to other places within the national park.

This is an artificial mangrove park that offers small 30min boat tours for a decent price. You get to see some small birds and a small crab here and there, but it wasn't a mind blowing experience overall. There is a temple you can visit nearby and a sperm whale museam. Pretty underwhelming and simply not worth it given that the drive from the Tainan city center is a good 20+ minutes.

The architecture of the visitor center is special and good for photo shooting. The wall of building is built by oyster shell. That is creative and looks good. But it seems not completed and is not fully opened yet. Not much things can be seen and visited.

National Park in Tainan. I visited a temple there. There is a possibility of small cruise around, especially in the green tunnel. I didn't have a chance to try since I arrived too late. There is no English description

Large scale night market was plenty of stalls and different style of food specialty bake tilapia is good. Also children’s and adult play carnival style ride quite clean and organized.

It’s the right size and right amount of crowd before it gets too crazy. I guess it would safe to pick the vendor with a line at front. It’s a bit tricky to order since they have different rules for some vendors.

Good spot for a rainy day and an absolutely beautifully designed building. Unfortunately many of the exhibitions halls were shut while we were there (I think they are all temporary galleries so you need to get your timing right). The joint ticket with the other art gallery building is worth it. I preferred art museum building 1.

The tree house and the Tait and co merchant house are in the same complex with the same ticket. The merchant house is interesting but lacks English translations, be ready with google translate. The tree house is the warehouse behind the merchant house. It was interesting to see how nature is reclaiming that area. I wouldn’t call it a must visit but it’s fine to check out if your in the area.

Not many old buildings are standing in Taiwan, this is a well preserved building with a lot of history. If you are into history this is a place I would definitely recommend to visit. For the Tait & Co. House you need approximately an hour to see everything. After this you can go to the tree house, no need for a new ticket.

It's OK. There's nothing much to do or see in this place besides see the trees. Don't get me wrong they ARE cool and beautiful, and the treetop walk was nice, but don't go out of your way to come here. Tainan City has much better things to do and see if you only have limited time here. If you have an afternoon to kill why not come see the trees.

This is my favorite historic place in Taiwan in my 4 months on the island. There is a wonderful mix of historic preservation, up-close exploration, museum exhibits, gift-shopiness, and botanical splendor. We spent 4 hours here and only left because they were closing for the evening. I do encourage staying that late as the low sun makes for extra beauty and better photos.

The building walls are covered in banyan roots which gives the place a peaceful vibe. It’s a nice spot where both kids and older folks can relax and enjoy. Also, a great spot to take pictures.

Great historical site. The main attraction is the old warehouse which has been completed overrun by trees, literally a "tree house). They a small craft beer counter and I nice souvenir shop with some interesting items. Totally worth the visit!

An interesting series of alley to walk and there is no fixed start and end point - you can enter from any direction and exit on another side. There are actual people and businesses residing in this area, but the cool part is viewing all the graffiti or display as you explore the alley. I personally feel it is not required to make a dedicated trip here but can check it out if you are around the area.

Fun place to visit but it's quite hard to follow the map. Instead, I'd recommend you just wander around and enjoy all the snail art everywhere! Supposedly, there are vendors selling snail soup, a local delicacy here, but we didn't see any when we strolled through

Cool alley but many storefronts were closed or empty. Visited around 3pm in November. Alley is about 1 block long. Easy to find on google maps. No restrooms, but had a cafe and a bar that was closed when we visited.

I was sure what to expect but was still underwhelmed - I don't know why this is a "tourist attraction" in this city. There are some house numbers on snail figures and an "Escargot" restaurant but otherwise it's an small residential area. Not worth the effort to specially travel to see, imho.

Great architecture building…. Really love this old building. Every details revealed how much effort they have put in when the building was designed and built! Enjoy walking in the corridor and stair well… just stunning.

Some nice exhibitions currently, especially memory of a landscape, which although small had some exquisite otherworldly marble pieces. Ticket also includes the new art building, however currently not much is displayed there.

The staff were nice, the building has its own unique feel, different from Building 2. The garden in the middle is a great little spot to sit and chill if the weather is good.

The exhibits were more interactive rather than artistic. It is still worth a visit if you are interested in art. The $200NT ticket covers both museums but I think kids would prefer this over the larger museum.

This is an art museum very much in time with its community. Tainan is a smallish town, less urban and so in many ways more interesting than the soaking metropoles. The curators do as much as they can to bring Artist works to life by including biographical narratives and plain language explanations of the works or their subsets. So even if you lack the vocabulary of the art world, it becomes easy to connect with the artist and their works. There are several addresses dedicated to shakers children that let them play with and experiment with art materials. Very refreshing change from high brow museums that do more to ring fence the works for the 'art elites' than to make their institutions valuable to the general community.

I attended the Lantern Festival on 3 Mar at the park and found that it is such and accessible, well-managed and easy to walk park with a sizable children playground, a well designed 2 storey whale structure and adequate toilets throughout the park, not forgetting the waterway flanking the park. A must do after exploring the Anping attractions.

I also call this place a "dog park on weekends" we use to take our 2 dogs in here on weekends. if you are a dog love every week you can come here and play with them. You will find different dog breeds😍.

Nothing is better than enjoying the wonderful time with family when the sunset is shining and the wind is browsing. The majority of families, couples and friends take a relaxing picnic for a whole afternoon.

The time we've visited this location almost everything has been closed. It's good to take a walk here, or take a look at the trains, and there is a very small playground with some swings as well, however it doesn't really worth the visit if nothing is open. We've been there on Saturday, so it shouldn't be an issue in my opinion. The architecture is the same as in the 10 Drums cultural village in Tainan, which is a great place and attracts many visitors. It seems like they're also building a traindepo, so I can imagine there will be touristic train service in the area in the near future. It would make the place recommended in my opinion.

The best place for kids visiting with relaxing feel

Transformed from an old sugar factory to a real cultural park in a nice and cozy setting. I feel peace and calm here. It is an enjoyable weekend trip.

Kind of an interesting place that used to be a sugar plantation in the old days but now has been transformed into different art and craft and musical shows for kids with many food stands all around at different prices but all very good. This will mostly be of interest for families with children 13 and under.

Came here due to the good reviews but it is really a place more suitable if you have younger kids and someone who can appreciate drums because the ticket price for adult is not very cheap (close to TWD500 each). Drum show is at 11am and 3pm. Then you can take a short train ride, do archery, play at some playgrounds and get some food as ticket come with TWD50 discount for food purchase.

Don't treat this as another art village, but a place mainly for the drums show and with some amusement park facilities. In general the 40 mins show is great (twice a day), but other facilities are a bit worn out and not well maintained.

Visited after arriving at the Chimei Museum and learning it was closed on Wednesdays… Ten Drum Village is within walking distance of the east parking lot of the museum. You may be tempted to call for a taxi but it takes no more than ten minutes to walk. Really great recovery. Arrived in time for a drum show. Vast space that rewards just wandering around and discovering. Cool food and beverage outlets. Worth the admission (we were skeptical)

Came here for the Drum Show and it was good. There's a number of rides available such as the Sky Swing, Zip Line, Fan jump, River Rowing, Archery and Chimney Slide. The place is targeted towards a younger audience and there were lots of school kids there.

Such a fun experience! This is my second time going, during the week is a FAR better option if you can. I also highly highly recommend watching the show at 11:00 or 15:00, it was so beautiful.

As someone who loves literature, I was so excited to find out this museum exists! The exhibits were impressive. With the many changes throughout Taiwan’s history, there are gaps where written literature wasn’t as prevalent. I liked how history, literature, and culture were shown to be so intertwined. While of course not everything is translated, the most significant descriptions and placards are bilingual in English and Mandarin, so tourists will be able to enjoy this museum, too. I highly recommend adding this museum to your list of must-see places. Reserve 90+ minutes.

To my surprise it wasn't a boring place as i thought it would be. you don't have to buy a ticket to enter, you can interact with a lot of games and screens you can also read a lot of books and the architecture itself is very historical. I learned a lot in this place, I visited when it was raining and it's actually a big place that you can walk for over an hour just hanging out in that place and they have a lot of English translations to many things that you can interact with and have fun with. Especially to those who really enjoy literature in Taiwan you can know a lot of culture, authors and also books

Really nice building with a good amount of knowledge inside. There were journals dating from the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, to the era of censorship before the 1990s. Upstairs there are literary works and stories from Taiwan’s Indigenous Peoples.

A great place to know Taiwan history and literature. The exhibitions are informaive; the building is artistic, comfortable, modern and beautiful to me. Free admission. You can check out the audio guide machine. Definitely a must-come place if u want to know more about Taiwan literature and history.

I loved my visit to the Museum of Taiwan History. The exhibition was insightful and the displays easy to follow. The life-size displays are attractive for children. The accompanying texts allow deeper dives to who is interested. The entire museum can be visited in an hour or two. The architecture is highly attractive. I travelled to the museum from downtown by bus: Very convenient. However, I do wonder if a visit to the Fine Art Museum would have been preferable. I only had a single day in Tainan and chose the History Museum, but now looking back ... :-/

Interactive and fairly comprehensive history of Taiwan starting from the prehistoric age until now. When I was here in April 2023, there was a gap in history during the initial days of modern Taiwan post-WWII during the period of martial law. I really liked the life sized models and attempt to place visitors in the time periods and relevant settings throughout the Our Land Our People: The Story of Taiwan permanent exhibit. Many of the placards and signs are bilingual in Mandarin and English. Highly recommend to anyone, especially expats and tourists interested in learning more about Taiwan’s history. Plan for at least 2 hours if not more. Also, the area around the museum is really pretty and a great place to relax for a little bit before leaving.

Try to find recommended spots in from the museum and it's awesome 👍🏻 there are Taiwan's Train film and also about the economic of Taiwan, yet the VR experience. Try all and worth the moments 😜 nice place for adult's healing ✨

Such a great museum. Very nice architecture and interesting displays from Taiwan's prehistory all the way to the present. Great little gifts in the gift shop too. The area around the outside is nice for strolling around.

What an amazing place. People that are very friendly so they will help you to understand all the scenes going on there Don’t miss on the right side the Chinese zodiac area where you can focus on yours on the bug stone to get good luck or the left side of the temple, where you can get help with your studies and knowledge rubbing the stone brush. In the main hall you can see the goddess of the seas.

The ornate decor and fine details are amazing - so much to try and absorb. A Mazu (or Matzu) temple is a place of worship dedicated to Mazu, the Chinese sea goddess.She was said to have supernatural powers, including calming storms and protecting fishermen and sailors.

This is the earliest Mazu temple in Taiwan. You can visit it to pray for health or wealth. Moreover, there are many restaurants nearby, allowing you to enjoy the street after the prayer.

Beautiful old temple in the heart of the old street area. Very crowded with tourists and locals during the holidays and weekend. It's very hot in the daytime so come early or later.

A great place to take photos for half an hour or so. There are YouBike stations, so you could also ride along the trails.

First time visiting, the atmosphere is soothing. Summer can be quite hot! Sun protection is recommended! Perfect for photos and check-in spots!

Not worth your time, solely man made acclaimed to be built with crystal. Resembles a church minus many fixtures of a church. To me I won't call it a church. Just a photo stop for tour agents to fill their itinerary. No special attractions and yet you have to pay entry fees to enter this place. If not a tourist, I wouldn't want to go near this place since it's part of the tour program I have to bear with it. No shades to shelter from the hot afternoon sun, what is before your eyes is a very tiny souvenirs shop selling some artifacts just to filled up the place and that's about it. Don't believe me go check it out yourself and have a good laugh 😂. Cheers and happy holidays. A LIKE would made my day.

This should be an on the way place to visit. We drop by this place when going to the salt field. A nice church made of crystals. This is also a favourite place for couples to take bridal shoots. 3 stars does not mean it is not nice, just that it doesn’t have other things to look at. Probably 20mins is enough with the photo taking and toilet breaks!

Beautiful place to take photos. But entering the church requires a small amount of entrance fees. Surroundings are really beautiful. There is a tourist information centre nearby to understand Tainan's culture and heritage.

Its a really beautiful place. Its more like a chapel. The shape of the chapel and the entrance is very unique. There are a lot of photo spots here. The egg waffles that are sold here is also nice and warm, perfect for the windy days as winds here are so cold and strong. Make sure you bundle up!

You can talk a small walk here, there's an old minimarket that sell classic old toys and snacks. Some colorful small building and a crystal church (featured in a Taiwanese song 新娘紗 ~ 楊靜 KTV). Took come beautiful picture there.

Huge temple complex with multiple buildings, gardens, alcoves, pavillions and fountains. Some are built on top of small hills. Visited during a weekday and it was not crowded except for a few locals. Pleasant place to stroll through and definitely worth a visit.

This is one of the largest daoist temple. Unfortunately, the back of the temple is under renovation, we were only able to see the front half of the temple. This place is famous for the predication of former president Tsai Ying-Wen winning the election.

Beautiful Taoist temples with several independent places to visit. It's very popular and for sure, a place to see. The temple is actually one of the largest to be dedicated to "Wang Ye", who are the many emissaries of the Celestial Emperor. For me, the place has a lot to offer visitors or worshippers, with the main gate, the first temple, followed by an inner and more recent temple, 2 separated gardens (mainly on the right side), one living quarter with old architecture, and one area with beautiful traditional buildings and garden (on the left side). That last part is not free (tickets were 50 TWD per person but it's recently closed for maintenance). During Chinese New Year (or any temple ceremony), the temple is really crowded.

For me the best Temple in Taiwan. Beautifully decorated, on site hotel. Not to mention the lovely gardens.

This temple is the biggest one in Taiwan. It was built over 300 years ago.This temple is not only a temple, but also the second class historic site. It has a big garden as well. It was a shame we didn't have much time on that day we went. Wish we could have more time check out the garden.

Not Buddhist, Taoist nor Chinese tradition, the Heavenly King system is a dominant religion that specifically prevails in Southern Min area. Please pay a visit and see if you can spot the differences of the deities

Old Japanese military dormitory turned into artist village. I came in early morning so nothing is opened but can enjoy the peaceful area by myself.

Historic architectures are mostly well-preserved and some of them have been operated as work shop or art studio. You can take a stroll here and enjoy its nostalgic ambience.

Eerily creepy and quiet place which used to be the barracks for the Japanese occupational forces back in the colonial era. I guess it’s recently been transformed into some sort of creative area? But really underutilized.

A very nice place to visit and there is no entrance fee. They are manned by volunteers and the volunteers we interacted with were very helpful and friendly, and even guided us to go check out some stuff before they were closed. There is quite a lot of information that you can learn from here if you are into history. I would definitely recommend checking this out if you have some spare time.

Used to be the local court for TaiNan city. Now turn into a museum. Don’t miss the guide tour in the morning 11 am and afternoon 4 pm. They just implemented VR system in this museum for visitors. The volunteers is really helpful and kind.

We loved this free museum that is run by volunteers, many of whom are seniors who are friendly and happy to explain the exhibits to you.

Interesting building, very informative on the judicial systems in Taiwan. Love the hills where u could dress up in a robe and role play as players of the court. Could finish the walkabout in 30 mins. Also remember to drop by the mirror room where u can see the tip of the tower upside down. Not forgetting the mirrors that illuminate the hallwAy

Amazing. A great interactive museum of the history of justice in Taiwan and really a history of western courts. There are fun things for children and lots of hands on experience. If you are interested in architecture and restoration this is also for you. Old style joinery disassembly and reassembly. Clearly impressive with a welcoming staff and comfortable washrooms.

Nice stretch of beach that gets a little bit more crowded (in a good way) towards sunset. We set on the sand and snacked Taiwanese fried chicken and fries. Perfect!

Sunset platform is the most place I love when I live in Taiwan. Normally, the tourist is not that much because not all people know this great place to see the sunset and sunrise so it will have many local people with several local street food. Even though the transportation to the sunset platform is quite not comfortable as much as I expected, but if not come here just only one time when you arriving Taiwan in Tainan city, I think you will be miss this place. This place can go with the people in every style and culture. You can go with your family, your boyfriend, girlfriend, or just go alone it still worth to go. Please allow yourself to absorb the power of nature, feel the sea vibe, listen to the sound of wave gradually hit the rock area. After you finish watching sunset, you can walk around this platform area and you will see the street food in terms of like the barrow of local people to see the local food, the local snack something like that. The taste is also good for tourists to try. It’s not hard to understand each food because it’s just the simple one that make from generation to another generation. There is not much chance to try some kind like this so don’t miss this place.

We went here to watch the sunset. It was not the best sunset we have seen, but it was beautiful.

It was cloudy on the day we went, and we couldn’t se the sunrise, but the morning view was amazing. Fog was lifting off of the forest beneath us! It was mesmerizing. You will need a car or a cab to take you there. That’s a minus in my books.

Such a nice and relaxing place although lots of mosquitos but then it’s nothing compared to the landscape views ang mini dumped mountains.

Unfortunately it was cloudy the day we went up, but the view was still amazing. However, the drive up does require some skills as the bends can be quite sharp.

Scenic area for sunrise-hunter. We went here by renting a bike from Tainan, but I also spot one bus stop here.

This observatory gives you a good idea of the landscape around this area, and you'd understand why it's referred as the moons landscape. The observatory is well equipped with safety barrier, vending machines, and toilets. Just beware when going when the suns out since it gets quite hot.

Amazing place to spend a couple of hours. It gives great views of mountains. Place is clean and quiet with proper parking and washrooms. The road that leads to this place is quiet an adventure!

The place looks mediocre from far but it actually became very interesting and charming after a few minutes in the visit. It looks like the ruins of a century-old Chinese village, but it is actually the work of an artist to collect and rebuild this village, in this state of ruin. Whether you consider the place as historical or artistic, it is very pleasant to walk here and there, enjoy the architecture and take pictures (late afternoon lighting is best). The place is not large and it could be visited quickly, but you can spend easily 2hrs, strolling around and taking pictures. The entrance ticket is 100 TWD, there are toilets and some stalls for food, drinks, ice cream... There was a street performer, dancing with a hoop and playing drum during my visit. He gave a reasonable show. It is possible to rent traditional Chinese dress to have original photos. Overall, the visit is enjoyable although I regret that there isn't much explanation about the place.

Great place to see the Taiwanese style houses fused with some Chinese taste. Very artistic! Some places may seem a bit shabby but are indeed quite interesting. The village is still under construction and expanding. The lake and the whole structure make it a good place for photo shooting! Not easy to get to because no public transport is served here.

Beautiful old architecture made of brick! Live performances! Little island in the lake! Can rent costumes to take memorable photos!

Nice fish pond lined with rustic, old fashion Taiwanese brick ruins and country farm raised fish scenery. Yiu can rent Qing dynasty custome for pictures. Smell a little but the small art gallery got a great collection.

Great place for tourist and locals. Cheap ticket and you can even dress up as old dynasty costumes. Theres a small lake in the middle.

OK experience. Good efforts by developer to create a sunken below road level space on the previous mall lot. Could be designed into something more passionate like Paddington Reservoir in Sydney - maybe in future?

Great place to come with the kids on a hot day. Lots of families with young children playing in the water. This place is one level down from the street. I think it used to be an underground shopping street before they demolished the building above and turned it into a water park. There is shade around the sides. Also has bathrooms. It is FREE to enter. This is a great part of Tainan close to lots of streets selling drinks snacks and many restaurants.

Nice renovation of the structure of old abandoned buildings. However the ongoing construction on the lower level may suggest a future re arrangement as leasig to the vendors, to bring in more visitors. Expect to see its new look in the near future.

Good place to try banana-based snacks and visit Confucius temple

An oasis of peace in the middle of the city. You can see the columns of a building that burned some years ago. I don't know if this can be considered a memorial but there is a small exposition about the things that there were in the building before such as shops and houses. Great place for children and for reading a book!

It's a little boring. Maybe it's because of the daytime; just an open space with no special features at all. I'm not sure if it will be more lively in the afternoon or evening. In addition, there is no water for children to play, so this place is not highly recommended.

I came here mainly for the sightseeing and view. Personally I felt it was underwhelming. You have to pay $100 NTD for car entry. The only attraction here for me was climbing the salt mountain. However you can only climb halfway through as the rest of the salt mountain is still under maintenance. There are also kids attractions and a DIY workshop but these are not my interests.

A visit to Qigu Salt Mountain requires an admission fee: NT$100 for cars, NT$50 for scooters, NT$50 for bicycles, and NT$50 for pedestrians. The area is quite vast, and the parking lot is equally massive. From old photos on display, it's clear the salt mountain was once considerably higher; currently, the accessible height is limited, and reaching the very top isn't allowed. Surrounding the main salt mountain, you'll find an outdoor salt-drying experience, an indoor dining area, and a DIY workshop zone. There are also outdoor vendor tents selling refreshments. Further back, there are some recreational areas, though I didn't get to explore them all due to the heat. It distinctly feels like a place cherished by older generations. While the effort to revitalize the park is evident, it seems more work might be needed to fully realize its potential.

This place is not too much people and quite far from tainan station. The entrance is only 50nt but you rides in some activities here, you need to pay. The salt mountain itself is not as beautiful as what in the photo but you can have a lot of choices to do in this place. Like rides mostly for children, experience the museum with art of story about tainan, salt making, water bumbboat. A lot of parking space available also here.

It was nothing special, literally just a mountain of salt, cool view though. We used the public tourist bus (98) to get here and the ride was pretty smooth. Not much people and no admission fee if you use the public bus.

It costs $100 to drive in (we were dropped off by a taxi). You can’t climb the salt mountain due to the recent typhoon and rain. You can walk around and take pics of the previous statues that they put on the mountain. There are some educational exhibits inside. You can ride the water bumper cars for 10 minutes for $100. It’s really hot since there’s no shade so be prepared. There’s ac in the restaurant but they don’t let you bring outside food in. The ice cream and tofu pudding was yummy!

The historical amazing salt mountain became an interesting scenic spot. There are a memorial statue built each year is a surplus for shooting amazing photos. The ice cream, Douhua and other small food make here a great place for a few hours stay. Not mention it's one of the best to see sunsets in Tainan.

City oasis of West District Tainan. Very peaceful and not many people. Calming fish pond and turtles. Gum tree blends in well in the garden. This garden is clean and well maintained.

This place is super cool. Quiet, not a lot of people, clean. Many trees and a nice pond. There's also a bathroom. Amazing beans.

Nice little cozy garden for a relaxing moment. It ain't very big, but a nice little place in the middle of the city. The museum part is only open Wed-Sun.

The coffee shop is in a more than 100-year house. It's a great place to stop and enjoy a coffee and environment. However, the coffee is not good, should seriously consider to improve, but their tofu pudding and marinated eggs are tasty.
